Bears | Terminate Domenik Hixon's contract    Tue Jun 3, 04:06 PM

Chicago Bears WR Domenik Hixon's (knee) contract has been terminated by the team with an injury settlement. Details of the settlement were undisclosed. Hixon announced his retirement on his Facebook account Tuesday, May 27.

Footballguys view: Hixon's pro career can be summed up by "what might have been." He was a tough wide receiver and had good run-after-the-catch ability. Multiple knee injuries derailed his NFL career.

Bears | Domenik Hixon to retire after third ACL tear    Tue May 27, 09:52 PM

Chicago Bears WR Domenik Hixon (knee) announced on his Facebook account Tuesday that he tore his ACL for the third time, and he indicated that he will retire from the NFL.

Footballguys view: Two bad ACL tears in one day of OTAs. Not pretty and considering it's non-contact, sort of disturbing. The Bears were hoping Hixon had a bit left in the tank but after three ACL tears, it makes sense he is calling it quits. This gives Josh Morgan and Eric Weems a little more breathing room but there are still a ton of players fighting for just a few roster spots.

Bears | Domenik Hixon signs    Thu Mar 13, 12:15 PM

The Chicago Bears signed free-agent WR Domenik Hixon (Panthers) to an undisclosed one-year deal Thursday, March 13.

Footballguys view: He should enjoy carrying Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery's Gatorade. This could also spell the end of Earl Bennett's tenure as a Bear, in which case Hixon will get the occasional long bomb thrown his way, but remain a fantasy non-factor.

Panthers | Two options to start Week 17    Mon Dec 23, 05:14 PM

Carolina Panthers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. and Domenik Hixon are options to start at wide receiver Week 17 if WR Steve Smith (knee) is not able to play.

Footballguys view: Ginn might work best as a slot receiver. Hixon has always been a talented player, but his career has been set back by injuries. Neither are great fantasy options if you're playing in Week 17.

Panthers | Competition for No. 3 WR job    Tue Aug 20, 04:03 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards (hamstring) has impressed the coaching staff in training camp and the preseason and has been listed as the third receiver behind WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. WRs Domenik Hixon, David Gettis and Ted Ginn Jr. are battling with Edwards. Edwards spent some time dealing with a hamstring injury which kept him out of the team's second preseason game. The door has reopened for Gettis because of the ailment, and he was impressive with five catches for 82 yards in the second preseason game. It now looks like a wide open race for the No. 3 spot.

Footballguys view: Edwards has been a disappointment during his pro career but things may be clicking for him right now. Gettis has improved his concentration and is finally staying healthy and impressing. It's a competition we may not get an answer to until right before the start of the regular season. Neither are hot fantasy options if they win the job.

Panthers | Domenik Hixon back to practice    Mon Aug 19, 01:43 AM

Updating a previous item, Carolina Panthers WR Domenik Hixon (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday, Aug. 18. Hixon entered training camp battling for the team's No. 3 receiver spot but was sidelined the first two preseason games with a sore hamstring. RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and WR Armanti Edwards (hamstring) remain out of practice.

Footballguys view: Hixon is trying to beat guys like David Gettis, Joe Adams, and Armanti Edwards for the WR3 spot behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Even if he wins the job we're not expecting a ton of fantasy production from that position in the Panthers offense.

Carolina Panthers WRs Joe Adams (calf), Armanti Edwards (hamstring) and WR Domenik Hixon (hamstring) each were inactive for the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Carolina Panthers WR Domenik Hixon (hamstring), who has missed the majority of training camp, is expected to be sidelined for about another week, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: This injury is putting Hixon behind in the battle for the WR3 spot behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Guys like Ted Ginn and Armanti Edwards are some of the competition Hixon will face for that spot.

Panthers | David Gettis in danger of losing job?    Wed Jul 31, 12:11 PM

Carolina Panthers WR David Gettis has struggled with injuries in his career, and he appears to be slower than previous seasons so far during training camp. He is behind starting WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell on the depth chart, and newcomers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. and Domenik Hixon appear to be ahead of him as well.

Footballguys view: Gettis just hasn't been the same since he was first injured in the NFL years ago. With the added weapons we could see the team move on if Gettis doesn't impress in camp.

Panthers | Domenik Hixon could have edge for No. 3 WR job    Mon Jul 15, 03:16 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Domenik Hixon could be considered the favorite for the No. 3 wide receiver job because of his previous experience with general manager David Gettleman. Hixon will have to compete with other wide receivers for the job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Hixon is a solid WR when healthy. He can work well on underneath routes and is fearless when running over the middle.

The Carolina Panthers signed WR Domenik Hixon (Giants) Wednesday, April 3. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Cleveland Browns have very mild interest in free-agent WR Domenik Hixon (Giants).

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan might get chance    Thu Feb 7, 12:32 AM

The New York Giants are looking for a consistent third receiver behind restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz and oft-injured WR Hakeem Nicks. WRs Ramses Barden and Domenik Hixon are each impending free agents, which leaves WR Jerrel Jernigan to battle WR Rueben Randle for the third receiver job. Jernigan and Randle are both expected to show growth during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Jernigan has the skill set to be a solid third WR. He's quick in and out of his breaks and has the moves in the open field to be dangerous after the catch.

Bears | Could be in the market for a wide receiver    Fri Feb 1, 02:59 PM

The Chicago Bears could be in the market for a free-agent wide receiver with injury concerns to WR's Earl Bennett and Alshon Jeffery. Among the veteran wide receivers Jeff Darlington of ESPN Chicago says could be available this year in free agency are Mike Wallace of the Steelers, Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs, Wes Welker of the Patriots, Danny Amendola of the Rams, Julian Edelman of the Patriots, Brandon Gibson of the Rams, Greg Jennings of the Packers, Brandon Stokley of the Broncos, Donnie Avery of the Colts, Randy Moss of the 49ers, Domenik Hixon of the Giants and Brian Hartline of the Dolphins.

Footballguys view: The Bears should certainly be looking for more help in the passing game. Jeffery has huge upside but the team lacks weapons behind him on the depth chart. The free agent market is strong at the WR position and this might be the best WR draft class we've seen in 10 years.

Giants | Victor Cruz leads touchdown parade    Mon Dec 10, 01:42 AM

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz had team highs with eight receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 win against the New Orleans Saints. WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) checked in with four receptions for 67 yards and a score, while WR Domenik Hixon added three grabs for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Footballguys view: Cruz has been quiet in the second half of the season, but he is primed for a strong fantasy playoff run as the Giants make a push for another division title. He's an easy WR1 play against the Falcons banged up secondary next week.
