Jaguars | Jacques McClendon the frontrunner at RG    Mon Jul 21, 10:59 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Jacques McClendon is the frontrunner to start at right guard heading into training camp, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com. OG Brandon Linder is the other candidate for the starting job.

Jaguars | Aaron Colvin hoping to play in second half of season    Mon Jul 21, 10:48 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Aaron Colvin (knee) will begin training camp and the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, the team believes he could return to play in the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: The PUP list for the regular season means that Colvin will be forced to miss the first six weeks of the year. After that, the Jaguars will have a three-week grace period to decide whether or not to activate Colvin or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles could start preseason game    Mon Jul 21, 03:01 AM

Although the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff is still high on QB Chad Henne, coach Gus Bradley said QB Blake Bortles could start a preseason game. "It would be late in the preseason if he did, and we'll see how things go," said Bradley. "We're really excited about Chad and what he's going to do so we'll see how it goes with him until that fourth preseason game."

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have been clear since day one that they'd like to keep Bortles on the bench this year. We'll see Chad Henne as the team's starter to begin the year, but Bortles might get a few starts near the end of the year if the team feels he's ready.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart to be workhorse    Sun Jul 20, 05:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart will be the team's workhorse, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Gerhart was a fine backup behind Adrian Peterson, and now he gets his chance to be "the man." Fantasy owners looking for a RB2 with RB1 upside should look no further than Gerhart. His current ADP is RB19 (4.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Storm Johnson at RB4    Sun Jul 20, 05:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Storm Johnson will enter camp as the fourth running back, but the team is excited about his potential. 'Storm is going to run at the same speed as (Toby Gerhart) and maybe a hair faster, but he's strong and really compact,' offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said. 'He has incredible vision and lower body strength.'

Footballguys view: Johnson is a fine all-purpose back who dynasty fantasy owners should be all over. He's a back with starter's ability, but he'll begin his pro career as a reserve player.

Jaguars | Two RB roles shaping out    Sun Jul 20, 05:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Jordan Todman is viewed as a change-of-pace back, along with RB Denard Robinson, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. 'Those two guys are truly change-of-pace backs,' Fisch said. 'Jordan really intrigues us with his burst, speed and acceleration... I'm excited about Denard.'

Footballguys view: Both are good change-of-pace backs with varying degrees of upside. As of right now, their actual fantasy value is a big question mark. Toby Gerhart is expected to be the team's bellcow back, and he's a fine receiver out of the backfield too. There may not be that many snaps/touches/carries for either Todman or Robinson in 2014.

Jaguars | Zane Beadles receives praise    Sat Jul 19, 09:19 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Zane Beadles received praise from offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. "He's certainly as advertised and then some," Fisch said. "By having such a young line, he knew he had to step up his leadership."

Jaguars | Luke Joeckel looks faster    Sat Jul 19, 09:18 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Luke Joeckel looks more athletic and faster, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. "He looked more athletic than I remember him," Fisch said. "When he was doing his rehab, he spent so much time on his lower body, he came back looking faster."

Jaguars | Stephen Morris could be practice squad candidate    Fri Jul 18, 11:09 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Stephen Morris likely will be a candidate for the practice squad if he does not make the final roster.

Footballguys view: Morris has amazing athletic ability. He looks good as a passer when there's no pressure, but his game falls apart when the heat is on. Morris has the athleticism and arm strength to be a good quarterback, but he must improve the consistency to his game.

Jaguars | Dekoda Watson expected to be ready for Week 1    Fri Jul 18, 10:34 PM

Jaguars | Coach hopes new WRs will help Marcedes Lewis    Wed Jul 16, 04:12 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars tight ends coach Ron Middleton said he hopes TE Marcedes Lewis will get more opportunities to catch passes in the middle of the field because of the additions of WRs Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson. 'That's going to be huge for Marcedes,' Middleton said. 'It will give him a chance to do what he does best -- run right by safeties down the seam and have [QB Chad Henne] throw it up high to him.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners in deeper leagues need to keep an eye on Lewis. He's a talented player who can be a quality red-zone target for Chad Henne. Lewis is currently going undrafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues. Put him on your waiver wire speed dial if he starts making plays early in the season.

Jaguars | Agree to terms with Marqise Lee     Wed Jul 16, 03:05 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to terms with WR Marqise Lee Wednesday, July 16. Per NFL rules, the length of the contract is four years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Lee is an intriguing rookie to monitor in fantasy leagues. He was fantastic at USC in 2012, but he struggled to play well in 2013. Lee is a sharp route-runner and he has shown good concentration and ball-tracking ability. He'll compete to be the team's starter opposite Cecil Shorts this year.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee likely to be signed by camp    Mon Jul 14, 11:19 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee will likely sign before the start of training camp, an agent told Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. The agent suggested that the holdup could revolve around workout bonuses. 'If you have to take a deal you don't want, why take it now?' the agent said. 'I could see him signing the morning camp starts.'

Footballguys view: We're honestly surprised that Lee isn't already signed. Today's rookie salaries are all bracketed, so it's fairly easy to figure out what a player should be getting based on where he was picked. Lee was a second-round pick (39th overall), so it should be even easier to determine his salary.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns stood out    Sun Jul 13, 06:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns was a standout in OTAs and minicamps. "I like the kid," wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan said. "I think he has some natural instincts. He has a chance to help us."

Footballguys view: Hurns was an undrafted free agent out of Miami (FL) this year. After the top four (Cecil Shorts, Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson, Ace Sanders) on the depth chart, the wide receiving corps is wide open for a player or two. If Hurns continues to standout in training camp he could win one of those spots. There's a good chance that he will end up on the practice squad at the very least.

Jaguars | Mike Brown learning at Larry Fitzgerald's camp    Fri Jul 11, 02:42 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Mike Brown is learning how to better run and set up routes, among other things, at Larry Fitzgerald's football camp in Minnesota this week. Brown said he's looking to pick up things from every single player there.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald's camp can help pros make the most of their game. We'll see if it translates into better production for Brown this year. With Justin Blackmon indefinitely suspended, the Jaguars are in need of WR help. Brown will compete with Ace Sanders, Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson for playing time opposite Cecil Shorts. We like Lee in this rate, although his fantasy value for 2014 (even with the starting job) is low. Lee is a better route-runner than the others, and we feel that Sanders is best used as a slot receiver.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts learning at Larry Fitzgerald's camp    Fri Jul 11, 02:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts is specifically learning how to run a better comeback route at Larry Fitzgerald's football camp in Minnesota this week. Shorts said Fitzgerald made sure he was dropping his weight and making the right turn on what Shorts said is a tough route to run.

Footballguys view: Shorts has really flourished in the NFL after being a fourth-round pick coming out of Mount Union. He's the team's top target and should put up WR3 numbers this year for your fantasy team. Shorts has a current ADP of WR38 (9.02) in 12-team PPR leagues. With 66 catches for 777 yards and three touchdowns, Shorts finished the 2013 season as fantasy football's 46th wideout.

Jaguars | Andre Branch focused on improving    Thu Jul 10, 05:53 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Andre Branch admitted recently that, for him, repetition is the key to getting better. He has taken that philosophy to heart, saying he 'always wants to be better than yesterday.'

Footballguys view: Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley singled out Branch as a standout defensive player in OTAs earlier this year. Branch started the 2013 season out slowly, but he finished strong with five sacks over the final six weeks. The team is hoping he carries that momentum over to this year.

Jaguars | Two WRs in mix for punt returner job    Wed Jul 9, 02:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Ace Sanders and Tandon Doss will be candidates for the punt return job this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Sanders was in line for a bigger role in the passing game this year, but the drafting of Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson should keep him in a limited role for the time being. If Cecil Shorts and Lee continue to struggle with injuries, he could be a factor in very deep PPR leagues in time.

Jaguars | Jordan Todman expected to be returner    Wed Jul 9, 02:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Jordan Todman is expected to be given the first chance to be the kick returner this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Todman will take a backseat to free agent signing Toby Gerhart. He'll battle seventh round pick Storm Johnson and former college QB Denard Robinson for the right to back up Gerhart and get a few touches a game. He showed great competence last year, but nothing special when he got a start late in the season vs. Buffalo. It was still good for a 100-yard game and over 150 total yards, so we'll watch to see if he can get s chance to get injury starts again this year.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles will be ready if needed    Tue Jul 8, 12:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he will be ready if needed early in the season, even though the team plans on keeping him off the field in 2014. 'I think you have to have the mindset that you have to go out and compete every day,' Bortles said. 'You want to be the guy. In my situation, whenever my number is called I want to be ready to go and execute the offense just like Chad would. That's my goal, to make sure I'm prepared and ready and continuing to get better.'

Footballguys view: Bortles is a good and tough runner, so he might have a little bit of fantasy punch as a midseason addition, even while the Jags offense adjusts to having a rookie QB. He is the least likely to start the season on the field, but Bortles has some fantasy promise when he does start, which should probably be by the end of the season.

Jaguars | LaRoy Reynolds could work with starters    Mon Jul 7, 05:20 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB LaRoy Reynolds could receive reps with the first-team defensive if LB Dekoda Watson (groin) is limited at the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Reynolds was generating buzz in training camp last year, but a four-game suspension for violation of the league policy on performance enhancing substances slowed his momentum. He's worth monitoring in very deep dynasty IDP leagues.

Jaguars | Dekoda Watson expected to be limited    Mon Jul 7, 03:55 PM

Jaguars | Marqise Lee finding a comfort level    Thu Jul 3, 11:35 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee said he was initially worried about fitting in with the team's older players but has already become comfortable with his new teammates. 'You hear a lot on the outside,' Lee said. 'But coming here, this is great. I've had an opportunity to be with these guys, and having them sit down with me and spend extra time going over plays and things like that, it shows how much leadership they have and how much of a family this team is. I appreciate it.'

Footballguys view: Lee is a playmaker who should greatly help the Jags passing game. He can run crisp routes and gain separation at the stem of his route. Lee can also make defenders miss after the catch. He'll begin his rookie season competing with Ace Sanders for the WR2 spot opposite Cecil Shorts.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart projects to receive 12-15 carries    Thu Jul 3, 10:44 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is projected to receive 12 to 15 carries per game, according to beat writer Ryan O'Halloran.

Footballguys view: It's hard to say what to make of this as we've heard multiple times that the Jags will lean heavily on the former Viking. We still have him tagged as a low-end RB2 with potential upside.

Link to story
Toby Gerhart player page

Jaguars | Chad Henne will start    Thu Jul 3, 10:40 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is the no-doubt starter, according to beat writer Ryan O'Halloran. O'Halloran predicts rookie QB Blake Bortles could be the starter by Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. Another possibility is Week 12 after the bye week.

Footballguys view: Henne is going to get his start in an offense which isn't quite built yet and we don't see him as worthy of a roster spot, rating him as a almost a QB4. Bortles has intriguing upside but you can grab him on waivers well after your fantasy draft and even then he's no more than an emergency fill-in.

Jaguars | Sherrod Martin has edge with experience    Tue Jul 1, 02:33 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars SS Sherrod Martin has 36 starts in the NFL under his belt. The rest of the team's safeties have one combined.

Footballguys view: We're certain that experience is going to pay off for Martin when it comes to making the 53-man roster. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said that Martin is 'very hard-working, internally driven and performs like he's not going to miss this.' The second-year coach also added that experience is great to have in the locker room. The Jaguars are on the right track with Bradley, and we trust him to make sound decisions--especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Jaguars | Dwayne Gratz impresses    Mon Jun 30, 08:56 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Dwayne Gratz looked good in OTAs and minicamps showing a knack for the ball and interception ability.

Footballguys view: Gratz is an up-and-coming player for the Jags after being a third-round pick out of UCONN in the 2013 NFL draft. He can excel in both man-to-man and zone coverage, and Gratz has the instincts to always wind up around the football.

Jaguars | Luke Joeckel feels good    Sun Jun 29, 08:51 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Luke Joeckel (ankle) was able to participate in all of the offseason workouts and said that his surgically repaired ankle feels good.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are breaking in a new-look ground game with Toby Gerhart as the featured back. Having Joeckel ready for the year will help the run-blocking, and it will also aid the pass-protection that Chad Henne or Blake Bortles gets.

Jaguars | Sherrod Martin should be ready for camp    Sun Jun 29, 08:45 PM

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts could get extension before season    Sun Jun 29, 10:24 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts could get a contract extension before the beginning of the season, although it is probably more reasonable to think Shorts could agree to a new deal in the first part of the season.

Footballguys view: With Justin Blackmon indefinitely suspended, Shorts is the team's top option at wide receiver. He's worked hard to prove himself as a pro after coming out of DIII Mount Union a few years ago.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles will receive first-team reps    Thu Jun 26, 01:05 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will receive first-team repetitions in training camp to experience 'that type of environment,' according to Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: It's a wise move for the Jaguars to prepare Bortles as quickly as he can to be the starter. We're likely to see Chad Henne begin the year as the starter, but Bortles is the eventual starter. At the very least we think the Jaguars will start Bortles a small handful of games at the end of the season to get him ready for 2015.

Jaguars | Chad Henne has support    Thu Jun 26, 12:55 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne has support within the organization and the team is rallying behind him, according to Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: The team really wants Bortles to sit for a year to make sure they don't repeat their error in rushing Blaine Gabbert into the lineup before he was ready. For fantasy purposes, it's unlikely he will have much fantasy value as anything but an emergency start so don't burn a roster spot on him.

Jaguars | Ricky Stanzi could be No. 2 QB    Wed Jun 25, 11:43 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Ricky Stanzi could be the No. 2 quarterback this upcoming season if the team decides to keep three quarterbacks on the final roster. Stanzi's spot on the final roster likely will depend on how QB Blake Bortles progresses during training camp.

Footballguys view: If Bortles can't beat Stanzi out, then there's a real problem. Stanzi has a rocket arm, but he can't throw it in the ocean standing on the beach. Accuracy (at any level) has always been a problem for him.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson contract details    Wed Jun 25, 03:56 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson agreed to a four-year contract worth $3.510 million with $1.173 million guaranteed and an $873,360 bonus.

Footballguys view: Robinson is currently backing up Cecil Shorts, although Shorts is already banged up, reminding us that Robinson could still see significant time on the field even if the depth chart doesn't change. Still, with the likelihood of poor or inexperienced QB play and Robinson's relatively raw wide receiver game, he is one of the least likely rookie WRs to make an impact in fantasy leagues this year.

Jaguars | Sign Allen Robinson     Tue Jun 24, 03:48 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed WR Allen Robinson Tuesday, June 24. Per NFL rules, the length of the contract is four years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Robinson has crisp cuts when running routes, and he has good acceleration after the catch. His consistency needs work as he'll have lapses in concentration from time to time. Robinson will compete for playing time behind Cecil Shorts, Marqise Lee and Ace Sanders in 2014.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon staying quiet    Sun Jun 22, 11:36 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has stayed quiet while serving his NFL suspension. "Every now and again, he will respond to my text," said Jaguars receiver Mike Brown. "We came into the NFL together and we're halfway close. But I don't get into his personal business. Whatever he has going on, I respect his space."

Footballguys view: Blackmon has amazing talent, but off field issues with alcohol have derailed his pro career. His suspension is indefinite, and the Jaguars are preparing as if he's not going to be in their plans for 2014. We hope he overcomes his demons and gets his life back on track.
