Jaguars | Blake Bortles struggles with turnovers    Wed Jun 21, 02:35 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has committed 63 turnovers over the last three seasons, which is the most in the NFL. His 51 interceptions during that span ranks second among quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Bortles is known to get careless with the football and his turnover numbers have always been high. If he wants to play up to his potential then Bortles will have to cut down on the turnovers. We should see the Jaguars use more balanced attack (featuring rookie RB Leonard Fournette) to keep things simple for Bortles. With over 600 passing attempts last year, Bortles may have 100 fewer attempts in 2017.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns may be used in slot    Sun Jun 18, 04:16 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns likely will line up as a slot receiver in 2017, in the opinion of the Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran.

Footballguys view: Injuries limited Hurns to 477 receving yards in 2016 and he missed the last five games with a hamstring injury. Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell guaranteed Blake Bortles will have fewer pass attempts this season. That decrease in passing attempts will have a trickle down effect for the Jaguars receivers. Hurns is currently WR60 (13.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Three Jags DBs uncertain for start of camp    Sat Jun 17, 04:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone would not say if he believes CB Aaron Colvin (undisclosed), FS Tashaun Gipson (undisclosed) and Barry Church (back) will be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have a revamped secondary they'll debut in 2017, but there are some injury concerns already. Not only are these three banged up, second-year star Jalen Ramsey (core) is currently recovering from surgery and his availability for the start of training camp is unknown.

Jaguars | Dede Westbrook working his way back    Fri Jun 16, 10:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook (undisclosed) returned to OTAs on a limited basis this weekend, performing individual drills but observing team drills.

Footballguys view: Westbrook has a ton of quickness on the field and can get open on underneath routes. He'll compete for the no3 WR job in Jacksonville behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft choice DE Dawuane Smoot signed his four-year contract Friday, June 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey undergoes surgery    Fri Jun 16, 01:36 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (undisclosed) underwent successful surgery Thursday, June 15, to repair a core muscle injury. He is expected to need six weeks to recover.

Footballguys view: With six weeks to recover, that puts Ramsey back in action for the start of training camp. The second-year corner can be considered a leader on the Jaguars improving defense.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles tired of 'below average' play    Thu Jun 15, 12:42 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said that the team is 'sick and tired of being below average' and 'not being successful when we feel as though we have the ability to be a good team.' He added: 'We haven't been. It's time to make a change. It's not going to happen overnight. You have to go do something about it.'

Footballguys view: We feel you, Blake. We feel you. Bortles is kind of getting to the end of his chances and we are hoping a new coach represents a fresh start and an improvement for the fourth year quarterback. The Jaguars did pick up his fifth year option, but he still needs to get better to secure a long term job. There are enough weapons in the offense to think he can do that, but fantasy GMs are cool on him right now, as he is the 20th quarterback coming off the board in early drafts.

Jaguars | Dede Westbrook not practicing    Wed Jun 14, 02:53 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook did not participate on the first day of the team's minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. It's the same issue that kept Westbrook sidelined for all 10 days of OTAs.

Footballguys view: Westbrook has talent, speed and quickness to be dangerous on underneath routes. His speed makes him a concern outside as well. When healthy, Westbrook will compete for targets behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

Jaguars | Branden Albert will be at camp    Tue Jun 13, 11:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Branden Albert said he will be with the team at the start of training camp and will not hold out.

Jaguars | Mychal Rivera earning reps    Sun Jun 11, 11:04 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Mychal Rivera has been seeing starter-level snaps during OTAs, and head coach Doug Marrone praised Rivera for his dependability. '[Rivera] is a player that makes the plays he should make,' Marrone said.

Footballguys view: With Julius Thomas traded to the Dolphins, the Jaguars need to find a new starting tight end. Marcedes Lewis has the veteran experience advantage, but he's likely to lose some targets to Rivera. After a 58-catch, 534 yard season in 2014 Rivera's stats have steadily declined. We don't see him bouncing back this year as he'll continue to be stuck in a timeshare.

Jaguars | Chris Ivory should be ready for minicamp    Sat Jun 10, 12:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (undisclosed) missed some practice time this week because of an undisclosed injury but participated in practice Friday, June 9, and should be a full participant during the mandatory minicamp next week.

Footballguys view: Ivory is going to work as a reserve behind projected starter Leonard Fournette. The rookie from LSU has superstar upside, but Ivory could work in to give him a breather from time to time. Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (undisclosed) is expected to miss the mandatory minicamp next week because of an undisclosed injury.

Jaguars | T.J. Yeldon may sit out minicamp    Fri Jun 9, 06:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (undisclosed) is expected to miss the mandatory minicamp next week because of an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: It doesn't matter as the Jaguars have rookie Leonard Fournette, a first-round pick this year, and he has superstar potential. Mix in Chris Ivory behind him and you see there's little room for Yeldon in 2017. Yeldon has missed all of the organized team activities this offseason.

Jaguars | Chris Ivory continues first-team work    Mon Jun 5, 10:15 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory continues to run with the first-team offense as rookie RB Leonard Fournette works with the second-team group in organized team activities. While most projections place Fournette in the starting role, with RB T.J. Yeldon as the third-down back, Ivory remains focused on the task at hand. Ivory also noted he will not shy away from helping Fournette learn the ropes. Head coach Doug Marrone stated Fournette will need to earn his spot.

Footballguys view: Rookie first-round picks have to earn their spots, but everyone under the sun knows Fournette should open the season as the starter. Fournette wasn't much of a pass-catcher in college, but OTA reports indicate he looks comfortable as a receiver out of the backfield. As a three-down back, Fournette has a current ADP of RB12 (2.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Brandon Linder using his flexibility     Sat Jun 3, 10:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Brandon Linder has been playing right guard during OTAs to allow the coaching staff to experiment with different offensive line combinations, head coach Doug Marrone said Friday, June 3, and Linder could remain at center again this season.

Jaguars | Bryan Walters released    Wed May 31, 02:19 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Bryan Walters (concussion) was released Wednesday, May 31, after the two sides reached an injury settlement.

Footballguys view: Walters suffered a foot injury in offseason workouts but when healthy might get a sniff with another team during training camp.

Jaguars | Cam Robinson signs his rookie deal    Wed May 31, 01:53 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars second-round OT Cam Robinson signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 31. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Robinson has been playing left tackle during OTAs due to Branden Albert skipping voluntary workouts. When Albert returns, Robinson should move inside to guard. He played left tackle in college at Alabama, but Robinson may be best suited to play on the right side or at guard in the pros.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns looking to improve    Sat May 27, 03:29 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns said he knows he has to play better than he did in 2016 and has been working to improve during the offseason. Hurns has added some weight but has cut his body fat. He has also worked on improving his change of direction during routes and has been strengthening his legs to help avoid hamstring injuries.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners would like to see him get back to the numbers he posted a couple of years ago. In 2015 he had 64 catches for 1,031 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hurns finished as the 15th fantasy wide receiver that year, but fell to 75th in 2016 as his numbers fell off and he only made it through 11 games. His current ADP of WR66 (14.05) in 12-team PPR leagues cooks in the risk associated with his up-and-down career so far.

Jaguars | Chris Ivory impresses head coach    Fri May 26, 04:12 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory looks to be in much better shape than he was in last season, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

Footballguys view: That's good news for Ivory, but the bad news is that he'll be playing behind 2017 first-round pick Leonard Fournette this season. Ivory will compete with T.J. Yeldon for touches behind Fournette.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette showing off hands early    Fri May 26, 02:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette impressed head coach Doug Marrone with his ability to catch the ball during OTAs, according to 1010XL AM's Hays Carlyon.

Footballguys view: Fournette is going to be the centerpiece of the Jaguars offense as a runner, but don't discount how he can contribute as a receiver. The volume of touches, coupled with his amazing natural talent, automatically gives him RB1 upside for fantasy owners. Right now, Fournette is going off the board at RB13 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette must adapt    Sun May 21, 09:02 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette was more effective running behind a fullback in college, and beat writer Ryan O'Halloran believes Fournette's biggest adjustment in the NFL will be receiving carries out of the shotgun and not regularly having a fullback.

Footballguys view: Fournette can thrive in a single-back set as he doesn't need a fullback to follow or blast open holes for him. Running from the shotgun is a different animal as defenses often have a "tell" as to where the play is going simply from the formation. Fantasy owners should see RB1 upside in the rookie from LSU, but right now you can get him at a RB2 price. Fournette has a current ADP of RB14 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Jacksonville worked out Alterraun Verner    Sun May 21, 01:14 PM

Free-agent CB Alterraun Verner (Buccaneers) had a workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are stacked at the CB position with guys like Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye and Aaron Colvin. It's been three years plus since Verner was an All-Pro selection (2013) and things just didn't work out for him in Tampa. His resume gets him a job before training camp...maybe in Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette signs contract    Wed May 17, 03:57 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette signed his four-year deal with the Jaguars Wednesday, May 17, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Fournette can be a star at the pro level, and he's likely to be the centerpiece of the Jaguars offense. Most scouts compared him to Adrian Peterson because of his size/speed combination, and that's an accurate comparison. The Jaguars back should be one of the most fantasy relevant rookies in 2017, and he should be considered a RB1 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB16 (4.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Blair Brown signs rookie contract    Tue May 16, 03:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Blair Brown signed his four-year rookie deal Tuesday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brown was a tackling machine in college at Ohio. He's a physical player who can thrive near the line of scrimmage. Brown lacks the desired ability in coverage, so he'll have to make his way as a two-down (and likely special teams) player in the NFL.

Link to story

Jaguars | Dede Westbrook signed Tuesday    Tue May 16, 01:07 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook signed his four-year rookie deal Tuesday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Westbrook is lightning quick with the ball in his hands. He can gain separation in his route with speed and moves, then after the catch Westbrook can eat up yards in chunks. Off field and character concerns dinged his draft stock, but if he's focused then Westbrook can contribute as a slot receiver for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Two Jaguars released, two added    Mon May 15, 10:35 AM

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette must earn starting job    Sat May 13, 05:45 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette will need to earn the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp even though he was the team's first-round pick, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars aren't going to hand him the starting job, and just like every team out there we'll see rookies 'earn' their playing time. That being said....Fournette is incredibly talented and should have no problem winning the starting job over guys like Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon. He's got RB1 potential for sure, but Fournette is currently going off the board at RB21 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | No contact between Jags, Branden Albert    Sat May 13, 03:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said he still has not had any contact with OT Branden Albert.

Footballguys view: Under contract through 2018, the Jaguars have no intentions of getting Albert a new deal. He's missed voluntary workouts, but we'll see if he's still absent when mandatory minicamp begins later this year. Second-round pick Cam Robinson will push Albert for the starting left tackle spot in 2017.

Link to story

Jaguars | Cam Robinson working at LT    Sat May 13, 02:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Cam Robinson has only worked at left tackle during the team's rookie minicamp this weekend.

Footballguys view: Robinson is a big mauler who struggles with balance issues as a pass blocker. The second-round pick from Alabama will compete with Branden Albert for the starting job in 2017...that is, he'll compete with him when Albert actually shows up. During voluntary workouts, Albert has been a no show.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' mechanics 'improved'    Sat May 13, 01:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone believes there is 'no doubt' the way QB Blake Bortles is throwing the ball this offseason 'has improved'.

Footballguys view: Bortles mechanics were quite wonky last year, and it caused his play to slip. The Jaguars haven't written him off (yet), but Bortles certainly needs to start playing better if he wants to stay as the starting quarterback. He's in line for a bounce-back season in 2017.

Jaguars | Victor Cruz visiting Jaguars    Thu May 11, 10:29 AM

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, May 11.

Jaguars | Dede Westbrook may be slot receiver    Wed May 10, 02:45 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook will compete with WR Rashad Greene for the slot receiver job as well as the punt returner role.

Footballguys view: We see that as his most likely spot within the Jaguars offense. With Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns playing outside, Westbrook can work the underneath routes over the middle of the field. Westbrook is quick and can change directions on a dime, making him a nightmare for corners trying to cover him.
