Jaguars | Dante Fowler will have surgery    Thu May 21, 05:18 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) will undergo surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament sometime next week.

Footballguys view: It's hard to be a Jaguars fan when stuff like this happens. Hopefully, Fowler will be OK for next season, and the defense can soldier on without him this year. The Jaguars are a team that feels like it could be on the cusp of something good.

Jaguars | Rashade Greene signs     Mon May 18, 02:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene signed his rookie contract Monday, May 18. Terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Greene can play on the outside or in the slot. He's got the speed to take the top off the defense in a hurry. Greene can make defenders miss in the open field, and he's got the burst to get out of his breaks without losing speed. He plays larger than his size (5'11" 185 pounds), and Greene should be able to compete for playing time from day one with Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Rashad Greene to work out of slot    Sat May 16, 12:35 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene has looked smooth in rookie minicamp and is expected to be used out of the slot when the Jaguars use three- or four-receiver sets.

Footballguys view: With Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson on the outsides, Greene would make a fine slot receiver. The rookie from Florida State has incredible concentration when running routes over the middle, and he's got the body control to work near the sidelines as well. He's competitive and has good quickness out of his breaks.

Jaguars | T.J. Yeldon to be feature back?    Fri May 15, 10:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon will likely win the starting job and be the feature back in 2015, according to ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco.

Footballguys view: Why is this a question? We feel Yeldon should be the Jaguars featured back because he's talented and he's got the best skill set to take on a heavy workload. Denard Robinson proved last year that he could make some plays out of the backfield, but his size limits him to being a change-of-pace player. Toby Gerhart washed out quickly as a running back in Jacksonville, and he's going to be used more as a fullback or H-back in 2015. Yeldon is a big back with good feet. While not a true power player, he does build up some pop at the point of attack when he gets past the line of scrimmage.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson to return kicks    Thu May 14, 04:22 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson will return kicks in 2015, according to general manager David Caldwell.

Footballguys view: Robinson flashed some playmaking ability last year, but he lacks the size to be a bellcow back at the pro level. That's why the Jaguars went out and selected T.J. Yeldon in the 2015 NFL draft. We should see Yeldon as the lead back and Robinson as the change-of-pace back. Yeldon has a current ADP of RB40 (8.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Ben Koyack signed    Thu May 14, 12:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Ben Koyack signed a contract with the team Thursday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: In the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Jaguars decided to take a developmental tight end as Koyack was their pick. His game is reminiscent of Luke Willson (Seahawks) as Koyack is big and can challenge the middle seam of a defense. He only has one year of starting experience under his belt, and Koyack needs some mechanical work. He's a fine player to develop behind Julius Thomas, and fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues should be monitoring his progress.

Jaguars | Neal Sterling signs    Wed May 13, 04:59 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Neal Sterling signed an undisclosed contract Wednesday, May 13.

Footballguys view: Sterling is a small-school prospect (Monmouth) with the ability to play wide receiver, tight end or H-back. He's got a large catch radius and knows how to box out smaller defenders.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler terms    Tue May 12, 01:02 PM

Updating an earlier report, Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) signed a four-year, $23.5 million deal with no offsets, according to a source. The deal is fully guaranteed, despite the fact that he tore his anterior cruciate ligament recently.

Footballguys view: Fowler signed a waiver with the Jaguars so he could participate in rookie minicamp. That deal stated the Jaguars would deal with him fairly in the event of an emergency. The Jaguars certainly did just that. Now, the team will look to get the pass-rusher healthy for the 2016 season.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon denied reinstatement    Sun May 10, 10:56 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon was denied reinstatement by the NFL this offseason, according to The Associated Press' Mark Long. It's unclear whether Blackmon failed a drug test or simply missed one, which counts as a failed test.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler will still get contract    Sun May 10, 02:44 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) will still get his rookie contract despite a torn ACL suffered this week at rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: Fowler signed an injury waiver with the Jaguars so they would negotiate in good faith if he was injured in rookie minicamp. We love his game, and it's sad that we're not going to see him rush the passer until next season.

Jaguars | Rookie RB Yeldon looks 'pretty smooth'    Sat May 9, 10:05 PM

Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley has been impressed by rookie running back T.J. Yeldon. "T.J. looked pretty smooth," Bradley said. "A lot of the same things that we saw on tape. His ability to make quick decisions, spontaneous decisions, his instincts. One play really jumps out at me and it's the same thing we saw on tape."

Footballguys view: We like the fit here for Yeldon. He's a big back, but not a true power back. He does have build up power, but Yeldon stands out because of his movement in the open field and ability to make defenders miss. Yeldon will be asked to split time with Denard Robinson this season.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler has torn ACL    Fri May 8, 05:27 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during practice Friday, May 8, and will miss the entire 2015 season, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Jaguars here. Fowler was one of our favorite pass-rushers in this draft class, and now we won't see him until next offseason. The rookie had yet to sign a contract, but he did sign an injury waiver that will require the Jagaurs to negotiate in good faith. This is a crushing blow to the defense, and now we'll see veteran Chris Clemons take over as the "Leo" pass-rusher.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler helped off field    Fri May 8, 02:11 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) was helped off the field after suffering an apparent knee injury during practice Friday, May 8.

Footballguys view: Uh-oh. Fowler was one of the best pass-rushers available in this draft, and he could make an immediate impact for the Jaguars defense. "He's being evaluated," coach Gus Bradley told reporters after practice. "We'll know more tonight."

  Jaguars | T.J. Yeldon a three-down back?    Sat May 2, 12:35 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon is viewed as a three-down back, general manager David Caldwell said Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Yeldon will compete with Toby Gerhart for carries but they might eat each other's numbers. Still, viewing him as a three-down back is a critical note for fantasy owners as Gerhart has been average. Most pundits felt Yeldon was a rotational back though, so don't get too excited yet.

  Jaguars | T.J. Yeldon selected 36th overall    Fri May 1, 07:25 PM

Alabama RB T.J. Yeldon was selected 36th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: The fifth or sixth running back in the draft for a lot of analysts, Yeldon is a smooth athlete, he hesitates at the line at times and isn't a good runner inside. He'll compete with carries with Toby Gerhart and until that situation shakes out. We think he's a late first round rookie pick.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler selected third overall    Thu Apr 30, 08:28 PM

Florida DE Dante Fowler was selected third overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: A strong pick by the Jaguars. He is going to be their LEO linebacker and should bring a lot of pressure from the edge. A great pick for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Leonard Williams fits in Jacksonville    Sat Apr 25, 09:05 PM

Southern California DE Leonard Williams 'can probably play anywhere he wants,' Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said when asked if Williams would play outside or inside if drafted by the Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Leonard Williams fits anywhere. He's arguably the best player in this draft regardless of position. He's smart, quick, strong and plays with a fire that doesn't quit. He'll be a top-5 pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon likely done in JAX    Fri Apr 24, 12:34 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon is likely done with the Jaguars if he's reinstated into the league, in the opinion of beat writer Ryan O'Halloran.

Footballguys view: Blackmon's talent has been completely overshadowed by his off-field issues. The Jaguars appear ready to move on from him completely, especially given the rumors of Jacksonville's interest in Amari Cooper. Someone will give him a chance elsewhere if he is released, but it's time for the Jags to move on.

Jaguars | Amari Cooper may land with JAX    Fri Apr 24, 11:50 AM

Alabama WR Amari Cooper is a possibility for Jacksonville Jaguars with the third pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, according to beat writer Ryan O'Halloran.

Footballguys view: While the Jaguars added one weapon in the person of Julius Thomas, quarterback Blake Bortles needs more help. Of course, they were pleased with Allen Robinson last season and have high expectations for Marquise Lee (assuming he remains healthy). Still, Cooper would be a huge step up for a team still trying to overcome a now-disastrous Justin Blackmon pick from 2012.

Jaguars | Maurice Jones-Drew retiring with team    Thu Apr 23, 02:18 PM

Free-agent RB Maurice Jones-Drew (Raiders) will sign a one-day deal to retire as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars next Tuesday, April 28. He played nine seasons and rushed for 8,167 yards and 68 touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Jones-Drew was one of our favorite players to watch. Some said he was too small and too slow when he came out of UCLA, and he proved the doubters wrong by becoming one of the best backs in the league during his peak. Jones-Drew was also one of the first players who embraced fantasy football players.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles worked with QB guru    Wed Apr 22, 12:54 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles worked with quarterbacks guru Tom House during the offseason. Bortles said Tuesday, April 21, that he spent two months in the offseason in California and was mentored by House. Bortles also spent four days throwing to TE Julius Thomas, WR Marqise Lee, TE Clay Harbor and WR Tony Washington. In addition, Bortles dropped 12 pounds from his the end of last season.

Footballguys view: Getting a headstart on creating chemistry with Thomas is always a plus. Not mentioned was Allen Robinson, who was developing into Bortles' go-to guy on third down before getting hurt last year.

Jaguars | JAX not interested in Adrian Peterson    Wed Apr 22, 12:53 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson might have a new home in 2015, but Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said the team hasn't talked to Peterson despite a report the Jags were one of six teams interested in trading for him. 'No, not really,' Bradley said Tuesday, April 21. 'Not between (general manager Dave Caldwell). A while ago, but it was just conversation, not any direction that we would go.'

Footballguys view: The Jaguars still don't see satisfied with their current RB group, so while the chances of Peterson coming to Duval could be disappearing, adding a member of this talented draft RB class is definitely in play.

Jaguars | Neal Sterling visits    Tue Apr 21, 07:37 AM

Monmouth WR Neal Sterling visited the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

Footballguys view: Sterling is an under-the-radar prospect who had a strong showing at his pro day. At 6'3" 239 pounds, some feel he's best suited playing at tight end in the pros. He's not overly fast, but he is a physical player who can be a good target in the red zone.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson working on pass catching    Sun Apr 19, 09:34 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson said he has been working on his pass-catching skills in the offseason, lining up as a receiver and running routes and practicing flares out of the backfield.

Footballguys view: Robinson looked good at times last year before a foot injury cut his season short. He's not built to be a bellcow, but Robinson can certainly shine as a change-of-pace back for the Jaguars. Expect the team to add a potential starting running back at some point during the 2015 NFL draft.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson fully healthy    Sun Apr 19, 09:41 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson said the foot injury he suffered during the season is completely healed and that he was cleared to do everything in February.

Footballguys view: Robinson flashed some playmaking ability last year for the Jaguars. His 582 rushing yards were a career high, but lack of durability was a problem. Now, the Jaguars are likely to use Robinson as a change-of-pace back instead of a full-time bellcow back. Look for Jacksonville to select a running back in the 2015 NFL draft.

Jaguars | GM not forgetting Denard Robinson    Sat Apr 18, 09:38 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson said he believes he should be the No. 1 running back in 2015, and general manager Dave Caldwell said he wouldn't forget about Robinson as he prepares for the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Robinson can make plays in open space, and he flashed some playmaking ability as a runner and receiver last year for the Jaguars. He's not built to be a lead back, so look for the Jaguars to add a starting running back at some point in the 2015 NFL draft.

Jaguars | Stefen Wisniewski signs    Sat Apr 18, 01:01 PM

Free-agent C Stefen Wisniewski (Raiders) signed a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, April 18. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Wisniewski can step in and start for the team at center. If needed, he can also play guard as well. The Jaguars are spending a lot of money to upgrade their team this offseason, and Wisniewski is part of that plan. He's currently recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

Jaguars | Paul Posluszny extended    Thu Apr 16, 08:32 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny signed a one-year extension Wednesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: Not a shock as the Jaguars have to keep one of their more talented players in house, even though Posluszny struggled last season. One year isn't a huge commitment so if he can't turn it around they can cut him loose.

Jaguars | Greg Jennings visiting Jacksonville    Mon Apr 13, 10:14 AM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) is visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, April 13, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Jennings is making a few stops before he decides on where to play in 2015. The Jaguars could certainly use him, but we think he ends up with the Dolphins.

Jaguars | Buck Allen visited Jacksonville    Sat Apr 11, 09:13 PM

Southern California RB Buck Allen visited the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Allen can do it all in the NFL. He's a compact runner with good instincts between the tackles. Allen is a capable receiver out of the backfield who can get open. He lacks elite speed, and that may keep him a change-of-pace back instead of a full-time runner in the NFL. The Jaguars are looking for help in the backfield and a player to pair with Denard Robinson.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler expects early pick    Tue Apr 7, 10:20 PM

University of Florida DE Dante Fowler feels that he will not fall past the Jacksonville Jaguars when the NFL Draft rolls around April 30. "I'd be stunned, because of the scheme that (head coach Gus Bradley) has," Fowler said Tuesday, April 7. "I can set the edge and I can come off the edge. I'd be surprised, but that's how the draft goes. I'm just happy I'll be drafted on the first day." The Jaguars pick third overall.

Footballguys view: Fowler is arguably the most explosive pass-rusher in the 2015 NFL draft. He gets off the snap quickly, and he has a good closing burst to get to the quarterback. Fowler is relentless in his pursuit, and he's a dangerous player to contend with on the edge. We'll see him off the board in the top five.

Jaguars | Amari Cooper, Devante Parker to visit JAC    Mon Apr 6, 04:47 PM

Alabama WR Amari Cooper and Louisville WR Devante Parker will visit the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, April 7.

Footballguys view: Cooper is our favorite wide receiver in this talent-rich class. He's a fantastic route-runner who plays with the savvy/instincts of a 10-year veteran. Parker has good speed and ball-tracking ability on deep targets. Both would be great help for the Jags. However, only Cooper is worth the number three-overall pick. There's a small (very small) chance that Parker would be available at the top of the second round.

Link to story

Jaguars | Will host three rookie pass rushers    Mon Apr 6, 04:33 PM

Southern California DE Leonard Williams, Nebraska LB Randy Gregory and Missouri DE Shane Ray will visit the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, April 7.

Footballguys view: Williams is a smart, disruptive defensive lineman who can create plenty of interior pressure. Gregory is unlikely to be a top-10 pick after testing positive for marijuana at the scouting combine earlier this year--the third positive test (two in college) that we know about. Ray could certainly be a top-10 pick in the draft. He is relentless and explosive as an edge-rusher.

Jaguars | Corey Wootton works out    Fri Apr 3, 04:34 PM

Free-agent DE Corey Wootton (Vikings) worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, April 2.

Footballguys view: Wootton has worked out for the Titans as well. He appeared in 15 games last year, but played less than 300 snaps. Wootton struggles to stop the run, and he did not generate any pressure as a pass-rusher in 2014.

Jaguars | John Crockett to work out for JAX    Thu Apr 2, 08:44 AM

North Dakota State RB John Crockett will work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Crockett was a productive FCS runner, and he has good patience and vision. With 30 catches last year, Crockett proved he could be used as a receiver out of the backfield effectively. He's a small-school RB to keep an eye on.

Jaguars | Bradie Ewing waived    Tue Mar 31, 05:28 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars FB Bradie Ewing was placed on no-recall waivers Tuesday, March 31.

Footballguys view: The news comes on the heels of learning that Toby Gerhart is likely to play fullback for the Jaguars in 2015. Fullback is a dying position, and Ewing could have a hard time latching on elsewhere.

Bradie Ewing player page

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart to see time as FB    Tue Mar 31, 02:40 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is expected to line up occasionally as a fullback in 2015 after the team released FB Bradie Ewing.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Jaguars have already stated they'd use Gerhart as an H-back this season. Playing fullback won't be a stretch for his skill set. His fantasy value is non-existent for re-draft players, and it's on life support in deep dynasty leagues.

Jaguars | Tandon Doss could see bigger role    Mon Mar 30, 11:22 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Tandon Doss could be the seasoned veteran general manager David Caldwell is seeking for the team this offseason. Caldwell mentioned Doss and WR Arrelious Benn as in-house veterans as options to fill the team's need for a seasoned receiver.

Footballguys view: Let's not get crazy here. Both Doss and Benn have been in the league for some time, and neither one has done much as a pro. We don't think either player has fantasy value, and even in super deep dynasty leagues their value is almost non-existent.

Jaguars | Arrelious Benn to see more time?    Mon Mar 30, 11:21 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Arrelious Benn could be an option for more time and a bigger role in the offense, as general manager David Caldwell mentioned Benn and WR Tandon Doss as in-house veterans as options to fill the team's need for a seasoned receiver.

Footballguys view: Benn was an interesting fantasy prospect at one time, but injuries and inconsistencies have derailed his pro career. We don't think he does anything worth noting in Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Reggie Wayne unlikely for Jacksonville    Mon Mar 30, 11:20 PM

Free-agent WR Reggie Wayne (Colts) is not a player the Jacksonville Jaguars are interested in pursuing.

Footballguys view: Wayne might not have many suitors this offseason. He's not what he once was, and this is a talent-rich draft class.

Jaguars | JAX not interested in Michael Crabtree    Mon Mar 30, 11:19 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have never had an interest in free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers).

Footballguys view: Nobody is really interested in Crabtree. The Jaguars can use all the help they can get at the wide receiver position, and they're not going to take a look at Crabtree.

Jaguars | Jalen Collins to visit    Sat Mar 28, 02:50 AM

LSU CB Jalen Collins has a visit scheduled with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Collins is a large corner (6'1" 195 pounds) with fluid hips and agility. His upside is through the roof, and Collins could develop into a shutdown corner in the pros. He gets a bit grabby at times, and Collins is known as a physical player. With better technique and proper coaching, Collins could become a great pro.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles endorsed by Gus Bradley    Wed Mar 25, 08:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles received an endorsement from head coach Gus Bradley Tuesday, March 24. Speaking at the AFC Coaches Breakfast at the NFL Annual Meetings Tuesday, Bradley said Bortles has impressed since late last season in his approach. "I knew he was tough, but just how tough ... And how fast he would take over the team. The team really gravitates toward him offensively, defensively and special teams-wise, and I didn't know it would happen that fast," claimed Bradley.

Jaguars | Greg Jennings to Jacksonville?    Mon Mar 23, 11:56 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) is a player the Jacksonville Jaguars have an interest, general manager David Caldwell said Monday, March 23. However, the two sides have not scheduled a visit yet.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars could use some help at the wide receiver position. Jennings has gotten a bit of interest on the open market, and we should see him decide on where to sign in the near future. If added by the Jaguars, Jennings could take over the role vacated by Cecil Shorts (Texans).

Jaguars | Trae Waynes to visit    Sat Mar 21, 02:27 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes is scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jaguars | Bernard Pierce could face suspension    Fri Mar 20, 01:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Bernard Pierce will face a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy with his DUI arrest this week. Pierce will be given a chance to compete for playing time with RBs Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson in 2015. Pierce has struggled in the NFL since his rookie season in 2012, and he's mainly been hampered by a list of injuries including back, ankle, knee, shoulder, thigh, toe and head ailments.

Footballguys view: Pierce has a chance to be part of a three-man rotation, especially if the Jaguars use Gerhart more as an H-back.

Jaguars | Bernard Pierce claimed by Jags    Thu Mar 19, 04:33 PM

Free-agent RB Bernard Pierce (Ravens) was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens by the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Some wondered if recent off-the-field issues might lead teams to pass on Pierce, but clearly the Jaguars figured that he could be a cheap option with upside. The backfield is so-so, and if he can stay out of trouble, there is the chance he might return to his form from 2013 and before. Pierce could work in a RBBC with Denard Robinson. The Jaguars are moving Toby Gerhart to more of an H-back role.

Jaguars | Melvin Gordon to meet with Jags    Wed Mar 18, 07:29 PM

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon will have a pre-draft visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars hold the third and 36th overall picks in this year's draft.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if the Jaguars spent the third-overall pick on Gordon. He's likely to be a first-round pick and Gordon will be gone by the time their 36th pick comes up. The Jaguars are moving Toby Gerhart to an H-back, and Denard Robinson is not a bellcow back. Gordon has star potential in the NFL. He's super fast in a straight line, and he runs with good patience and vision.
