Jaguars | Blake Bortles endorsed by Gus Bradley    Wed Mar 25, 08:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles received an endorsement from head coach Gus Bradley Tuesday, March 24. Speaking at the AFC Coaches Breakfast at the NFL Annual Meetings Tuesday, Bradley said Bortles has impressed since late last season in his approach. "I knew he was tough, but just how tough ... And how fast he would take over the team. The team really gravitates toward him offensively, defensively and special teams-wise, and I didn't know it would happen that fast," claimed Bradley.

Jaguars | Greg Jennings to Jacksonville?    Mon Mar 23, 11:56 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) is a player the Jacksonville Jaguars have an interest, general manager David Caldwell said Monday, March 23. However, the two sides have not scheduled a visit yet.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars could use some help at the wide receiver position. Jennings has gotten a bit of interest on the open market, and we should see him decide on where to sign in the near future. If added by the Jaguars, Jennings could take over the role vacated by Cecil Shorts (Texans).

Jaguars | Trae Waynes to visit    Sat Mar 21, 02:27 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes is scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best corner in this draft class. He has the size/speed combination that could make him a shutdown corner at the pro level.

Jaguars | Bernard Pierce could face suspension    Fri Mar 20, 01:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Bernard Pierce will face a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy with his DUI arrest this week. Pierce will be given a chance to compete for playing time with RBs Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson in 2015. Pierce has struggled in the NFL since his rookie season in 2012, and he's mainly been hampered by a list of injuries including back, ankle, knee, shoulder, thigh, toe and head ailments.

Footballguys view: Pierce has a chance to be part of a three-man rotation, especially if the Jaguars use Gerhart more as an H-back.

Jaguars | Bernard Pierce claimed by Jags    Thu Mar 19, 04:33 PM

Free-agent RB Bernard Pierce (Ravens) was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens by the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Some wondered if recent off-the-field issues might lead teams to pass on Pierce, but clearly the Jaguars figured that he could be a cheap option with upside. The backfield is so-so, and if he can stay out of trouble, there is the chance he might return to his form from 2013 and before. Pierce could work in a RBBC with Denard Robinson. The Jaguars are moving Toby Gerhart to more of an H-back role.

Jaguars | Melvin Gordon to meet with Jags    Wed Mar 18, 07:29 PM

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon will have a pre-draft visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars hold the third and 36th overall picks in this year's draft.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if the Jaguars spent the third-overall pick on Gordon. He's likely to be a first-round pick and Gordon will be gone by the time their 36th pick comes up. The Jaguars are moving Toby Gerhart to an H-back, and Denard Robinson is not a bellcow back. Gordon has star potential in the NFL. He's super fast in a straight line, and he runs with good patience and vision.

Free-agent WR Bryan Walters (Seahawks) signed an undisclosed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Friday, March 13.

Jaguars | Red Bryant released    Thu Mar 12, 11:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Red Bryant was released Thursday, March 12, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: This move saves the Jaguars $4.5 million in cap space. Bryant can still play strong run defense, and we think he'll have more than a few teams interested now that he's on the open market.

Jaguars | Marcedes Lewis won't be cut    Wed Mar 11, 05:14 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis will not be cut, despite the fact the team just signed TE Julius Thomas. However, other teams have inquired about Lewis in a trade.

Footballguys view: Lewis has a high cap number (8.2 million), but he is an accomplished blocker, so at least he could contribute that with Julius Thomas on board. Lewis's time of fantasy relevance has long passed.

Jaguars | DeMarco Murray pursued by Jaguars    Tue Mar 10, 07:48 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Cowboys) is being hotly pursued by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have made Toby Gerhart an H-back, and Denard Robinson is only a change-of-pace back in the pros. Murray is the biggest superstar left on the open market. Signing him would take a lot of money and cap space.

Jaguars | Sergio Brown headed to Jacksonville    Tue Mar 10, 01:03 PM

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent FS Sergio Brown is expected to agree to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: Brown registered 33 tackles and one sack last season for the Colts. He can play close to the line of scrimmage and be relied on as a run-defender. Brown does struggle in coverage, and he plays with a bit of hesitation at times.

Jaguars | Davon House lands four years with Jaguars    Tue Mar 10, 12:53 PM

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers impending free-agent CB Davon House agreed to a four-year deal worth around $25 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: House was never a starter for the Packers, but he is a good depth player. He can contribute on both defense and special teams.

Jaguars | Expected to sign Davon House    Tue Mar 10, 10:55 AM

Impending free-agent CB Davon House (Packers) is expected to sign a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, March 10, that is worth $6.25 million per year.

Footballguys view: House gives the Jags good secondary depth. He was a Packers fourth-round pick in 2011, and House can contribute on both defense and special teams.

Jaguars | Dan Skuta, Jacksonville get together    Tue Mar 10, 01:50 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars and free-agent LB Dan Skuta (49ers) have agreed to terms on a five-year, $20.5 contract, sources said Monday, March 9.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas, Jags reach agreement    Mon Mar 9, 10:17 PM

Updating a previous report, the Jacksonville Jaguars and free-agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos) reached an undisclosed multi-year agreement Monday, March 9, which will pay Thomas around $9 million per season, according to reports.

Footballguys view: The $9 million per year salary is around what Rob Gronkowski makes for the New England Patriots. No offense to Thomas, but he's not on the same level as Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham (Saints). The Jaguars overpaid, but they get a move tight end who could be a reliable red-zone target for second-year QB Blake Bortles.

Jaguars | Jared Odrick agrees to terms    Mon Mar 9, 02:53 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent DT Jared Odrick has agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Terms of the contract are not known.

Footballguys view: Another strong signing by the Jaguars here. They have a ton of cap room, and they are on a spending spree. Odrick gives the Jaguars more size on the defensive line, and he can give them some interior push on opposing quarterbacks.

Jaguars | Jermey Parnell agrees with Jags    Mon Mar 9, 11:10 AM

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent OT Jermey Parnell agreed to a five-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, March 9. The deal is worth about $6.5 million per year, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Parnell gets a good deal here, and this should help upgrade the Jags O-Line. A backup with Dallas, Parnell did a good job filling in for Doug Free at right tackle for seven games last year.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas to sign    Sun Mar 8, 05:56 PM

Free-agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos) is set to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to sources. No contract terms were disclosed. The deal cannot be finalized until free agency opens on Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: This move was expected for a long time. Thomas will greatly upgrade the weapons around Blake Bortles, but this move certainly damages his fantasy stock. Instead of top-3 potential in Denver, Thomas will be more of a low-end TE1--around TE12--in Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Ryan Davis signed    Sun Mar 8, 02:22 AM

Free-agent DE Ryan Davis (Jaguars), who was an exclusive-rights free agent, was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Davis was originally an undrafted free agent in 2012, and he's worked hard to improve each season in the league. Last year, Davis had 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries for the Jaguars. Keeping him around is a no-brainer.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts looking for contender    Fri Mar 6, 07:16 AM

Free-agent WR Cecil Shorts (Jaguars) wants to take his talents to a contending team when he hits free agency on Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: Shorts should get a bit of interest on the open market. He can make for a decent slot receiver on a team looking for a quicker/faster receiver to work underneath routes.

Jaguars | Randall Cobb likely to be courted by Jags    Wed Mar 4, 10:31 AM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb is expected to be aggressively pursued by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cobb's agent Jimmy Sexton also represents Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, and the team has $69.3 million to spend.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have all that money to spend, and they will search high and low to put the best weapons possible around young QB Blake Bortles.

Jaguars | DeMarco Murray could land in Jacksonville    Mon Mar 2, 08:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent RB DeMarco Murray could be targeted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency this offseason. RB Toby Gerhart will fill a multitude or roles in 2015, and RB Denard Robinson is more suited for a complementary role in the backfield.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are going to make a ton of impact moves this offseason. The Jags have the most salary cap room in the NFL this year, and Murray could certainly be on their radar.

Link to story
DeMarco Murray player page

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart to be moved around    Mon Mar 2, 07:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is expected to be moved around in 2015 as an H-back and as a running back, which means the Jaguars are expected to be in the running back market this offseason.

Footballguys view: Gerhart's fantasy value was already low. This idea of moving him around makes it even lower. Expect the Jaguars to add a true feature back (DeMarco Murray?) through free agency or the draft.

Jaguars | Bryan Bulaga could be target    Sun Mar 1, 12:39 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent OT Bryan Bulaga could be an option for the Jacksonville Jaguars if he hits the free-agent market, because the Jaguars are looking for an upgrade at right tackle.

Footballguys view: Bulaga is going to have more than a few suitors. A team like the Broncos could also be interested in the veteran right tackle. If he hits the open market, Bulaga will be among the best available at his position.

Jaguars | Jaguars gunning for Julius Thomas?    Fri Feb 27, 09:44 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas will be pursued aggressively by the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Footballguys view: Jacksonville can be considered the frontrunner for Thomas' services. It would be a strong signing for the team as they need more and better weapons around young quarterback Blake Bortles.

Jaguars | Interested in James Casey    Thu Feb 26, 12:18 PM

Free-agent TE James Casey (Eagles) is scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Casey is a good all around tight end, but more proficient as a blocker than a pass-catcher. Jacksonville has bigger needs but they'll kick the tires and see what Casey can add. There are rumors that Jacksonville could be the frontrunners to land free agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos). Stay tuned.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson should be fine by April    Tue Feb 24, 06:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (foot) should be full-go once offseason activities begin in April. Robinson is recovering from surgery for a stress fracture.

Footballguys view: Robinson should be good to go, but we'd still expect the Jaguars to take it easy on him upon his return. The Jaguars WR corps is up in the air right now as the status of Justin Blackmon (suspended) is unknown. If he returns, Blackmon would likely be the top target in the offense.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas drawing interest in JAX    Tue Feb 24, 10:01 AM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is drawing interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars if he reaches free agency.

Footballguys view: We could see that connection. Thomas is unlikely to return to the Broncos, and he could be a real weapon for QB Blake Bortles in Jacksonville. His presence in the red zone and mismatches he creates in the middle would benefit the young QB.

Jaguars | Have strong interest in Julius Thomas    Fri Feb 20, 11:46 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars could have strong interest in impending free agent tight end Julius Thomas (Broncos).

Footballguys view: The Jaguars need playmakers they can count on for Blake Bortles to take the next step and while they did all right with some of the receivers they picked up last year, a tight end like Thomas would be a huge help for their second-year quarterback. Of course, how effective is Thomas without Peyton Manning throwing the ball? We think Thomas would be solid, but probably not quite as good as he was with Manning - especially if he is the biggest attention-getter in Jacksonville's offense.

Jaguars | Jaguars keeping Toby Gerhart?    Fri Feb 20, 12:22 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart will likely be back with the team in 2015, according to head coach Gus Bradley. 'Toby's done a nice job for us,' Bradley said Thursday, Feb. 19. 'I know people may consider him a third down-type back or a short-yardage, situational back but we saw him do enough good things on first and second downs that he'll have a place with us. He is a different style of back and we're putting tougher an offense that best utilizes his strength.'

Footballguys view: Gerhart can stay with the Jaguars and play a part-time role. They have Denard Robinson at running back, but he's not a player who can handle a huge load. They'll need to spread things out, and that's where Gerhart comes in.

Jaguars | Brandon Linder won't change positions    Wed Feb 18, 11:19 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Brandon Linder will remain at right guard and will not become an option to compete for the right tackle spot. 'Right now, we like him at right guard,' head coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Jaguars | To meet with Alan Ball at combine    Tue Feb 17, 12:45 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent CB Alan Ball's agent is expected to meet with the team at the NFL scouting combine this week.

Jaguars | To meet with Tyson Alualu at combine    Tue Feb 17, 12:32 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent DT Tyson Alualu's agent is expected to meet with the team at the NFL scouting combine this week.

Footballguys view: Alualu was a surprise first-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, and he has failed to produce up to his draft status. He suffered a knee injury early in his career, but the Jaguars might want to keep him around as a backup.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to keep running    Fri Feb 6, 12:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles won't be discouraged from running in his second season in the pros, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. Bortles was sacked 55 times in 14 games as a rookie in 2014, and he often held the ball too long in the pocket. He was also second on the team in rushing yards, though, with 419. 'When a play does break down protection-wise and you have a guy that can go get yards, you don't want to discourage it,' Olson said. 'There is a time to make something to happen with your feet. For other quarterbacks, that's not part of their makeup. That's a strength of Blake's and we want him to continue to utilize that.'

Footballguys view: Bortles is a big guy, and he can take the punishment that comes with scrambling. It would be wise for the Jaguars offense to keep utilizing his athleticism to keep the chains moving.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon making progress    Thu Feb 5, 06:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon is progressing, regarding his off-field issues, but still has strides to make. The NFL is in control of his situation as of now. Blackmon pleaded no contest late last year to a misdemeanor for marijuana possession, among a litany of other problems.

Footballguys view: Blackmon will need to apply for reinstatement into the league. Once the paperwork is filed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will have 60 days to make a decision. We hope Blackmon has cleaned his life up. He's immensely talented, and adding him back to the Jaguars roster would be a huge boost for the passing game.

NFL | RB Jay Ajayi stands out in fantastic RB class    Wed Feb 4, 09:03 PM

Greg Gabriel, from NationalFootballPost.com, believes that Boise State's Jay Ajayi stands out in this talent-laden RB class. While lacking bulk, Ajayi is a powerful runner who sees the field well and has good instincts when deciding where to go.

Footballguys view: What stands out most for us is Ajayi's patience as a runner. Measuring in at 6'0" 216 pounds, Ajayi will wait until just the right moment before bursting to and through the hole. Hyper-productive for the Broncos, Ajayi was the first player in FBS history to rush for 1,800-plus yards and collect 500-plus receiving yards. We like him as a potential fit for the Jaguars in the second round.

NFL | UNLV WR Devante Davis says hamstring getting better    Wed Feb 4, 08:03 PM

Mark Anderson, from the Las Vegas Review Journal, reports that UNLV WR Devante Davis' hamstring injury he suffered at the Senior Bowl is getting better. "It gets better daily," Davis said. "I'm able to jog and cut a little bit better than when I first hurt it."

Footballguys view: Both our Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman were heartbroken when Davis injured himself at the first day of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year. They were attending practice to scout the next group of top seniors, and Davis was a player high on their list. Davis is likely a late-round pick, but he has an intriguing size/speed combination that should interest any team that needs WR depth with upside. We think a team like the Jaguars could show interest.

Jaguars | Greg Jones moved to reserve/retired list    Wed Feb 4, 07:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars FB Greg Jones was placed on the reserve/retired list Tuesday, Feb. 3. The move was strictly a formality, as Jones signed a contract with the Jaguars last month and retired.

Footballguys view: Jones signed a one-day contract with the Jaguars so he could retire as a member of the team. He was a fantastic player at Florida State, and Jones turned in a great career as a fullback in the NFL. Jones could have done more as a runner, but he sacrificed his stats so that he could blast open holes for the backs behind him.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has 'paid his dues' and has 'his life together,' according to owner Shahid Khan. Khan is also 'very optimistic' Blackmon will return to the team next season.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars were originally looking at Blackmon as a longshot to return. Now, it seems like Blackmon will be able to return in 2015. He'll need to apply for reinstatement with the league, then commissioner Roger Goodell will have 60 days to make a decision.

Jaguars | Owner supports Blake Bortles    Sat Jan 31, 02:24 PM

Ryan O'Halloran, from the Florida Times-Union, reports that Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is incredibly supportive of QB Blake Bortles. "I love [quarterback] Blake [Bortles], and I think he's a key building block moving forward," Khan said. "We have to unlock his potential and we needed to have somebody who has done that before and has a great track record. I think [new offensive coordinator] Greg [Olson] is about as good as it gets."

Footballguys view: Bortles gained a ton of experience during his rookie year in 2014. He didn't improve much as the season went on, but the Jaguars will work diligently to put a better offense around him in 2015. He's their franchise quarterback, and they'll give Bortles every opportunity to succeed this year and in the future.

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (chest) said Monday, Jan. 26, that he is back to lifting after dealing with a torn pectoral muscle last season, and he expects to be 100% when offseason activities begin in April.

Footballguys view: The story with Posluszny will always read "what might have been." He's a fantastic athlete who can fly around the field. Posluszny arrives at the ball with natural violence and can be a disruptive player on the defense. Too bad he's almost always banged up. We're hopeful he can stay healthy and shine for the Jaguars defense in 2015.
