Jaguars | Chad Henne not in danger    Thu Jul 31, 01:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is in no danger of losing his starting job at this point, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Henne has looked comfortable during practice and is performing well.

Footballguys view: Henne is a seasoned veteran, and the team is turning to him as the starter this year. If Henne struggles, there's a chance that Bortles could replace him later in the season.

Jaguars | OC happy with Blake Bortles    Thu Jul 31, 01:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles worked on his development and has progressed faster than originally anticipated, according to offensive coordinator Judd Fisch. 'I think that one of the things you always worry about is how does a guy handle something that he's never done before. He's had OTAs and minicamp and then now he's got four weeks to figure out what is he going to do. I thought he really prepared so he came back ahead of where I thought he was going to be,' Fisch said.

Footballguys view: Bortles can run the plays as designed. He's a facilitator more than he is a playmaker, but that's not something to hold against him. Bortles should sit this year behind Chad Henne, but he is the QB of the future for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Tandon Doss hurt in practice    Thu Jul 31, 12:42 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Tandon Doss (undisclosed) suffered an injury on the last play of practice Thursday, July 31, and was in a lot of pain.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars wide receiver corps is looking rough. Ace Sanders and Justin Blackmon suspended. Allen Robinson hurt. And now this. No wonder they want to run the ball a ton. Doss isn't fantasy relevant for anything but leagues who give points for punt and kick returns.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson has hamstring injury    Thu Jul 31, 12:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, July 31, as he deals with a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: This is a problem, but then again he has a mediocre quarterback (or a rookie) throwing to him and an offense which is committed to running the ball a lot. This year is more about him getting his feet wet for when Blake Bortles takes over in 2015. For this year we have him as no more than a WR5 at best in redraft.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson looking good    Thu Jul 31, 11:57 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson has looked as a runner and a pass catcher during practice, in the opinion of USA Today Sports' Jim Corbett. Robinson bulked up to 210 pounds during the offseason.

Footballguys view: He's not going to overtake Toby Gerhart, and his value in fantasy is negligible so he shouldn't be on your roster. If he is successful, he'll likely be a guy who is valuable for real football, but not fantasy football.

Jaguars | John Lotulelei helped off field    Thu Jul 31, 11:13 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB John Lotulelei (undisclosed) was helped off the field during practice Thursday, July 31, and was not able to put any weight on his left leg.

Jaguars | Don't want Toby Gerhart at 300 carries    Thu Jul 31, 09:51 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is expected to be spelled by RBs Jordan Todman, Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson so he doesn't reach the 300-carry plateau.

Footballguys view: They may be a little careful with Gerhart, who has never carried a full load in the NFL. This does fly in the face of their "20-25 carry" mandate reported by ESPN just a few days ago, so let's take this with a grain of salt. Either way we have Adrian Peterson's former backup as a solid RB2 this season.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee lining up all over    Wed Jul 30, 10:09 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (and fellow rookie WR Allen Robinson) have seen more reps in training camp with WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and WR Ace Sanders (personal) sidelined. Lee has shown off his versatility, lining up all over the field so far in camp, and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch is finding ways to get him the ball. Lee is still not 100 percent from an ankle injury suffered in June, but he is improving. 'It's coming along. I'm still getting treatment and rehab, but it's coming back gradually. I've got to keep it strong to go through an entire season,' Lee said Wednesday, July 30.

Footballguys view: This is smart move for the Jaguars. Lee can run crisp routes and he can make things happen after the catch. We'll see if he can win the starting job on the outside opposite Cecil Shorts.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson drawing praise    Wed Jul 30, 10:07 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (and fellow rookie WR Marqise Lee) have seen plenty of opportunity at training camp with WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and WR Ace Sanders (personal) sidelined. Robinson has been showing off his size, physical nature and good heads, drawing the praise of general manager Dave Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradleye. 'What I like about him are his strong hands,' head coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday, July 30. 'He makes catches away from his body.'

Footballguys view: Robinson is a big-bodied rookie who can rip contested passes away from defenders. He lacks elite speed and quickness, but he has strong hands and knows how to set up a route.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson look good    Wed Jul 30, 11:48 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson have looked comfortable and consistent in the early part of training camp, according to John Oehser.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Jaguars here. Both rookies are talented players who can make plays in different ways. Lee is a crisp route-runner who can get open with ease and haul in contested catches. Robinson is a strong receiver with good hands and run-after-the-catch ability.

Jaguars | Clay Harbor out a month    Wed Jul 30, 10:46 AM

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Clay Harbor (calf) will be out for a month due to the calf injury he suffered earlier in the week.

Footballguys view: Harbor was competing for a spot on the roster as a backup behind Marcedes Lewis. This injury is unlikely to knock him off the roster. The Jaguars lack depth at the position behind Lewis, so Harbor is likely safe.

Jaguars | Roy Miller returns     Mon Jul 28, 10:47 PM

Jaguars | Clay Harbor to miss time    Mon Jul 28, 08:28 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Clay Harbor (calf) will miss some time with a strained calf, according to John Oehser of Jaguars.com.

Footballguys view: Harbor is a decent H-back-like tight end. He's competing with guys like Marcel Jensen to be the primary backup tight end behind Marcedes Lewis.

Jaguars | Chad Henne impressing    Mon Jul 28, 02:54 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne has been stellar in the team's first three days of training camp, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Bradley added that Henne looks comfortable and has shown a mastery of the offense.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are going to hold first-round pick Blake Bortles on the bench if they can. If Henne comes through as a solid starter, then we may not see the rookie in 2014. However, if Henne starts to struggle, the team could mix Bortles into the lineup towards the end of the year.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts update    Sat Jul 26, 02:25 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) will miss two to four weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Jaguars here. Shorts is their top receiver, and there is very little experience behind him. Ace Sanders has been suspended the first four games of the year, so now a pair of rookies (Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee) will be thrust into more playing time.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns has leg up    Sat Jul 26, 02:03 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns has a sizable knowledge gap over the rest of the rookie receivers in camp due to his work with offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch at the University of Miami. General manager Dave Caldwell said Friday, July 25, that he hopes Hurns will maintain that gap over the others instead of letting the pack catch up to him.

Jaguars | GM likes Toby Gerhart's build    Sat Jul 26, 02:01 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart can handle the workload of a starting running back due to his build and frame, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. The GM also took issue with the opinion Gerhart cannot be a home-run hitting back.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see what Gerhart can do this season. He's big, physical and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. Gerhart's current ADP is RB19 (4.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Drafted WRs as compliment to Cecil Shorts    Sat Jul 26, 02:01 AM

Jaguars | Dekoda Watson expected for Week 1    Sat Jul 26, 02:01 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Dekoda Watson (groin) will be sidelined until at least the middle of training camp, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. However, the expectation is that Watson will be ready for the regular season opener. Caldwell said Watson's second surgery was to take care of scar tissue that built up after his first surgery.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts exits practice    Fri Jul 25, 12:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) did not finish practice Friday, July 25, because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have to be a bit worried about Shorts, who missed all of minicamp and most of the OTAs with a hamstring injury. This is worth watching as the team may have to lean even more heavily on rookies Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson than they already were. Right now Shorts appears to be worth a WR4 spot, while Lee is around a WR5 and Allen a WR6. That could change a little if the injury keeps Shorts out and the team (and we) get a longer and deeper look at the rookies.

Jaguars | No plans to cut Justin Blackmon    Thu Jul 24, 02:03 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon will not be cut by the team after his most recent arrest, according to owner Shad Khan. 'We want him to get help he needs,' Khan said.

Footballguys view: Blackmon still needs help. Football isn't even important right now. He needs to get his life back on track, get clean and then perhaps worry about playing football again.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon arrest details    Thu Jul 24, 11:19 AM

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' mechanics need fixing    Thu Jul 24, 11:11 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles' lower-body mechanics likely will be revised. Bortles' flaw has been over-reliance on his right arm when throwing; he doesn't use his legs enough. A 'redshirt year will help,' according to Albert Breer.

Footballguys view: This matches everything we heard about Bortles during the pre-draft process. He might have the highest ceiling of the three first-round QBs, but he also has the most work to do.

Jaguars | Austin Pasztor is starter at RT    Thu Jul 24, 10:54 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Austin Pasztor (shoulder) is working as the starting right tackle and is fully healthy at training camp, according to offensive line coach Luke Butkus.

Footballguys view: Pasztor was a nice gift for an offensive line in need in 2013. If Luke Joeckel can settle in at left tackle, the offense could take some steps towards respectability this year in the passing game.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon arrested    Thu Jul 24, 10:45 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon was arrested for possession of marijuana Wednesday, July 23, in Oklahoma.

Footballguys view: The latest news about Blackmon (or lack thereof) was ominous because it indicated that he was out of touch from him teammates and otherwise his condition was unknown. His problems in the past were alcohol-based, but this is still a terrible sign. Blackmon isn't worth a redraft pick due to the very tiny chance he gets reinstated this year, and soon he might not even be worth a dynasty roster spot.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders update    Tue Jul 22, 07:44 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: Let's hope that Sanders gets the help he needs. Sanders will seek counseling and expects to be away from the team for the entirety of training camp.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders suspended, will miss camp    Tue Jul 22, 06:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (undisclosed) is facing a four-game suspension. He will miss training camp due to personal issues.

Footballguys view: Now we know why Sanders was put on the NFI list. Speculation indicates that Sanders is seeking help for substance-abuse problems. We'll see what kind of role he has when he comes back from the suspension. Rookie Allen Robinson will be the team's third-string receiver behind Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee.

Jaguars | Place two on NFI lists    Tue Jul 22, 05:56 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders was placed on the non-football illness list. CB Aaron Colvin was placed on the non-football injury list.

Footballguys view: Sanders could win the team's WR3 slot job in training camp when healthy. Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee are the top targets in the offense. Sanders will compete with rookie Allen Robinson to be the 3rd wide receiver on the depth chart.

Jaguars | Aaron Colvin hoping to play in second half of season    Mon Jul 21, 10:48 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Aaron Colvin (knee) will begin training camp and the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, the team believes he could return to play in the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: The PUP list for the regular season means that Colvin will be forced to miss the first six weeks of the year. After that, the Jaguars will have a three-week grace period to decide whether or not to activate Colvin or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles could start preseason game    Mon Jul 21, 03:01 AM

Although the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff is still high on QB Chad Henne, coach Gus Bradley said QB Blake Bortles could start a preseason game. "It would be late in the preseason if he did, and we'll see how things go," said Bradley. "We're really excited about Chad and what he's going to do so we'll see how it goes with him until that fourth preseason game."

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have been clear since day one that they'd like to keep Bortles on the bench this year. We'll see Chad Henne as the team's starter to begin the year, but Bortles might get a few starts near the end of the year if the team feels he's ready.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart to be workhorse    Sun Jul 20, 05:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart will be the team's workhorse, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Gerhart was a fine backup behind Adrian Peterson, and now he gets his chance to be "the man." Fantasy owners looking for a RB2 with RB1 upside should look no further than Gerhart. His current ADP is RB19 (4.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Storm Johnson at RB4    Sun Jul 20, 05:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Storm Johnson will enter camp as the fourth running back, but the team is excited about his potential. 'Storm is going to run at the same speed as (Toby Gerhart) and maybe a hair faster, but he's strong and really compact,' offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said. 'He has incredible vision and lower body strength.'

Footballguys view: Johnson is a fine all-purpose back who dynasty fantasy owners should be all over. He's a back with starter's ability, but he'll begin his pro career as a reserve player.

Jaguars | Two RB roles shaping out    Sun Jul 20, 05:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Jordan Todman is viewed as a change-of-pace back, along with RB Denard Robinson, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. 'Those two guys are truly change-of-pace backs,' Fisch said. 'Jordan really intrigues us with his burst, speed and acceleration... I'm excited about Denard.'

Footballguys view: Both are good change-of-pace backs with varying degrees of upside. As of right now, their actual fantasy value is a big question mark. Toby Gerhart is expected to be the team's bellcow back, and he's a fine receiver out of the backfield too. There may not be that many snaps/touches/carries for either Todman or Robinson in 2014.

Jaguars | Stephen Morris could be practice squad candidate    Fri Jul 18, 11:09 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Stephen Morris likely will be a candidate for the practice squad if he does not make the final roster.

Footballguys view: Morris has amazing athletic ability. He looks good as a passer when there's no pressure, but his game falls apart when the heat is on. Morris has the athleticism and arm strength to be a good quarterback, but he must improve the consistency to his game.
