Jaguars | Improvisation part of Gardner Minshew's game    Mon Mar 30, 11:44 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew was credited with a league-high 49 scrambles - designed pass plays in which the quarterback opted to run - in 2019.

Footballguys view: Minshew can get rid of the ball quickly when a play goes as designed. When things fall apart, he does not hesitate to get on the move and tries to make something happen on the fly. With Nick Foles moved to the Bears, Minshew is the starter for now.

Jaguars | Tyler Eifert, Lerentee McCray deals finalized    Mon Mar 30, 07:44 PM

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert and DE Lerentee McCray's contracts were officially processed by the league Monday, March 30.

Footballguys view: Eifert can be a weapon for the Jaguars if he can stay healthy. We all know he has talent and is a red-zone threat, but we also all know that Eifert is hurt more than he is healthy. We'll see if a fresh start with the Jaguars helps him out.

Jaguars | O-line play hurt Leonard Fournette in 2019    Sun Mar 29, 05:11 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette finished fifth in the league among qualified rushers in fewest yards before contact per attempt (1.4) in 2019. Meanwhile, his three yards after contact per attempt was good for the third-best mark in the league.

Footballguys view: Fournette had to do a lot of the work himself in 2019. That was because teams were stacking the line to stuff the run when QB Gardner Minshew (as a rookie) was thrust into the starting lineup. We'll see if the Jags O-Line can help Fournette out more this season with a more experienced Minshew under center.

Free-agent WR Terry Godwin re-signed an undisclosed contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, March 26.

Footballguys view: Godwin is a player we appreciate but only in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's a quick receiver who has a feisty playing style at the wide receiver position. We'll see if he can stay healthy and make the Jags 53-man roster in 2020.

Jaguars | Tyler Eifert terms    Wed Mar 25, 09:55 AM

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert signed a two-year, $15.5 million deal, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Eifert is going to be in the mix to get targets at the tight end position and he can be valuable when the team gets near pay dirt. However, he needs to stay healthy in order to do that. We'll see if a fresh start in Jacksonville does him some good.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is expected to be the starter in 2020 after QB Nick Foles was acquired by the Chicago Bears Wednesday, March 18, in exchange for a compensatory fourth-round pick.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars had to make a decision and they went with Minshew. He flashed last year as a rookie taking over for an injured Nick Foles. Now, he's the main man with no competition for the top spot. We'll see if the Jaguars are tempted to make a run at one of the top quarterbacks in this draft class with the No.9 overall pick.

Jaguars | Nick Foles not being shopped    Wed Mar 4, 05:47 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles is not being shopped to other teams, but he is receiving trade interest from teams.

Footballguys view: This contradicts other speculative reports about the team trying to shop the veteran quarterback. We'll see Foles and Gardner Minshew compete for the starting job in 2020...unless Foles is actually traded away.

Jaguars | Nick Foles garnering interest?    Tue Mar 3, 05:23 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles has drawn trade interest, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, but there have been no substantive trade talks as of yet.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are looking to trade Foles and go with Gardner Minshew as their starter. The quarterback market is going to be crazy this offseason with free agents and trades yet to come. We'll see what they can get for Foles.

Jaguars | Jacksonville in no rush to name QB    Tue Feb 25, 08:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew have not been given a timeline in terms of knowing when one or the other will be named the starting quarterback.'When do you make that decision? There's not really a date. It's not really going to happen until we start playing, in the preseason, because for me, at that position, one of the things that's important is that the players can see who the best player is. You have an obligation to everyone in that locker room that you're putting the best player out there,' Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said.

Footballguys view: The team is going to have Foles and Minshew compete for the starting job in training camp. We'll have to watch this battle unfold as it happens in the summer. Fantasy GMs will be looking elsewhere for QB1 production in 2020.

Jaguars | DJ Chark here to stay?    Sun Feb 23, 09:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR DJ Chark Jr. credits his success in 2019 to an improved commitment to preparation, and Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com believes Chark should deliver 1,000 receiving yards and eight to 10 touchdowns in 2020.

Footballguys view: Chark should be a favorite target of whichever quarterback is going to start for the Jaguars in 2020. Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew are in line for the job and will compete this summer for the job. Chark and his deep speed make him an attractive target for any player throwing him passes this season.

Jaguars | Derrick Brown atop Jags' draft board?    Sun Feb 16, 09:37 PM

Auburn DT Derrick Brown 'should be at the top' of the Jacksonville Jaguars' draft board to address a run defense that ranked 28th in the NFL in 2019, in the opinion of John Reid of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have the No.9 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. There's a chance that Brown will not be available by the time that pick comes up. Brown has a rare combination of size and strength that makes him a disruptive force in the middle of the defensive line. He can step in and start from day one and Brown could one day (soon) be an All-Pro player.

Jaguars | Jacksonville eyeing Henry Ruggs?    Sun Feb 16, 09:31 PM

Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III's 'blazing speed' would fit in offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's West Coast system, according to John Reid of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: Ruggs has speed, speed and more speed. He can take the top off the defense and is a big-play weapon because defenders simply can't keep up with Ruggs. Those in the scouting community often compare him to Tyreek Hill but there might be some Ted Ginn to his game. In other words, Ruggs is not a finished product and does not beat coverage at the line of scrimmage the way that Hill does. He should be a first-round pick and could go off the board in the top 15 is the Jaguars don't select him at No.9 overall.

Jaguars | Austin Hooper a fit in Jacksonville?    Sun Feb 16, 09:23 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper could be a target for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to John Reid of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: Hooper should be the highest-paid tight end in this free agency class. He had a breakout season with the Falcons in 2019, catching 75 passes for 787 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Hooper could get around $10 million annually in his new deal...and the Falcons may not be able to pay him that much as they've invested so much in other skill position players.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette's option in doubt    Sat Feb 15, 10:00 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette may not have his fifth-year optioned exercised, according to John Reid of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Fournette's biggest supporter, Tom Coughlin, was fired after the 2019 season. The veteran back is coming off his most complete season but his injury history is something that could shy away the team from his fifth-year option. It's more likely that he plays out this season with the Jaguars and they approach his contract next offseason.

Jaguars | Three LBs could be targets for Jaguars    Fri Feb 14, 06:31 PM

Tennessee Titans impending free-agent LB Wesley Woodyard, Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent LB Cory Littleton and Cleveland Browns impending free-agent LB Joe Schobert may be targets for the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason if they decide to look for a new middle linebacker, in the opinion of The Florida Times-Union's John Reid.

Jaguars | Four could be on chopping block    Wed Feb 12, 09:44 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee, LB Jake Ryan, DT Marcell Dareus and CB A.J. Bouye could be released for salary cap reasons before the start of the new league year, in the opinion of Jaguars.com's John Oehser.

Footballguys view: Getting rid of Lee would clear $5.25 million in cap space while leaving behind $3.5 million in dead money. Lee only made it through three games in 2019 and has only caught three passes since the 2017 season. Some team would likely give him a 'prove it' deal if/when he becomes available.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR DJ Chark Jr. registered two grabs for 67 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown in the third quarter, for the AFC at the Pro Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 26.

Footballguys view: Chark had a breakout season in 2019. His 2020 outlook is a bit cloudy because we don't know who the quarterback will be. The Jaguars have not committed to either Nick Foles or Gardner Minshew. We'll see a QB competition this offseason and into training camp and the preseason. Chark should be a favorite target no matter who wins the starting job.
