Jaguars | Toby Gerhart to be moved around    Mon Mar 2, 07:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is expected to be moved around in 2015 as an H-back and as a running back, which means the Jaguars are expected to be in the running back market this offseason.

Jaguars | Bryan Bulaga could be target    Sun Mar 1, 12:39 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent OT Bryan Bulaga could be an option for the Jacksonville Jaguars if he hits the free-agent market, because the Jaguars are looking for an upgrade at right tackle.

Footballguys view: Bulaga is going to have more than a few suitors. A team like the Broncos could also be interested in the veteran right tackle. If he hits the open market, Bulaga will be among the best available at his position.

Jaguars | Jaguars gunning for Julius Thomas?    Fri Feb 27, 09:44 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas will be pursued aggressively by the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Footballguys view: Jacksonville can be considered the frontrunner for Thomas' services. It would be a strong signing for the team as they need more and better weapons around young quarterback Blake Bortles.

Jaguars | Interested in James Casey    Thu Feb 26, 12:18 PM

Free-agent TE James Casey (Eagles) is scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Casey is a good all around tight end, but more proficient as a blocker than a pass-catcher. Jacksonville has bigger needs but they'll kick the tires and see what Casey can add. There are rumors that Jacksonville could be the frontrunners to land free agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos). Stay tuned.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson should be fine by April    Tue Feb 24, 06:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (foot) should be full-go once offseason activities begin in April. Robinson is recovering from surgery for a stress fracture.

Footballguys view: Robinson should be good to go, but we'd still expect the Jaguars to take it easy on him upon his return. The Jaguars WR corps is up in the air right now as the status of Justin Blackmon (suspended) is unknown. If he returns, Blackmon would likely be the top target in the offense.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas drawing interest in JAX    Tue Feb 24, 10:01 AM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is drawing interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars if he reaches free agency.

Footballguys view: We could see that connection. Thomas is unlikely to return to the Broncos, and he could be a real weapon for QB Blake Bortles in Jacksonville. His presence in the red zone and mismatches he creates in the middle would benefit the young QB.

Jaguars | Have strong interest in Julius Thomas    Fri Feb 20, 11:46 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars could have strong interest in impending free agent tight end Julius Thomas (Broncos).

Footballguys view: The Jaguars need playmakers they can count on for Blake Bortles to take the next step and while they did all right with some of the receivers they picked up last year, a tight end like Thomas would be a huge help for their second-year quarterback. Of course, how effective is Thomas without Peyton Manning throwing the ball? We think Thomas would be solid, but probably not quite as good as he was with Manning - especially if he is the biggest attention-getter in Jacksonville's offense.

Jaguars | Jaguars keeping Toby Gerhart?    Fri Feb 20, 12:22 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart will likely be back with the team in 2015, according to head coach Gus Bradley. 'Toby's done a nice job for us,' Bradley said Thursday, Feb. 19. 'I know people may consider him a third down-type back or a short-yardage, situational back but we saw him do enough good things on first and second downs that he'll have a place with us. He is a different style of back and we're putting tougher an offense that best utilizes his strength.'

Footballguys view: Gerhart can stay with the Jaguars and play a part-time role. They have Denard Robinson at running back, but he's not a player who can handle a huge load. They'll need to spread things out, and that's where Gerhart comes in.

Jaguars | Brandon Linder won't change positions    Wed Feb 18, 11:19 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Brandon Linder will remain at right guard and will not become an option to compete for the right tackle spot. 'Right now, we like him at right guard,' head coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Jaguars | To meet with J.T. Thomas at combine    Tue Feb 17, 12:46 PM

Jaguars | To meet with Alan Ball at combine    Tue Feb 17, 12:45 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent CB Alan Ball's agent is expected to meet with the team at the NFL scouting combine this week.

Footballguys view: Ball had a good season in 2013, but he looked bad through about half the season in 2014. He was put on season-ending Injured Reserve in Week 7 due to a biceps injury.

Jaguars | To meet with Tyson Alualu at combine    Tue Feb 17, 12:32 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent DT Tyson Alualu's agent is expected to meet with the team at the NFL scouting combine this week.

Footballguys view: Alualu was a surprise first-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, and he has failed to produce up to his draft status. He suffered a knee injury early in his career, but the Jaguars might want to keep him around as a backup.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to keep running    Fri Feb 6, 12:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles won't be discouraged from running in his second season in the pros, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. Bortles was sacked 55 times in 14 games as a rookie in 2014, and he often held the ball too long in the pocket. He was also second on the team in rushing yards, though, with 419. 'When a play does break down protection-wise and you have a guy that can go get yards, you don't want to discourage it,' Olson said. 'There is a time to make something to happen with your feet. For other quarterbacks, that's not part of their makeup. That's a strength of Blake's and we want him to continue to utilize that.'

Footballguys view: Bortles is a big guy, and he can take the punishment that comes with scrambling. It would be wise for the Jaguars offense to keep utilizing his athleticism to keep the chains moving.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon making progress    Thu Feb 5, 06:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon is progressing, regarding his off-field issues, but still has strides to make. The NFL is in control of his situation as of now. Blackmon pleaded no contest late last year to a misdemeanor for marijuana possession, among a litany of other problems.

Footballguys view: Blackmon will need to apply for reinstatement into the league. Once the paperwork is filed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will have 60 days to make a decision. We hope Blackmon has cleaned his life up. He's immensely talented, and adding him back to the Jaguars roster would be a huge boost for the passing game.

NFL | RB Jay Ajayi stands out in fantastic RB class    Wed Feb 4, 09:03 PM

Greg Gabriel, from NationalFootballPost.com, believes that Boise State's Jay Ajayi stands out in this talent-laden RB class. While lacking bulk, Ajayi is a powerful runner who sees the field well and has good instincts when deciding where to go.

Footballguys view: What stands out most for us is Ajayi's patience as a runner. Measuring in at 6'0" 216 pounds, Ajayi will wait until just the right moment before bursting to and through the hole. Hyper-productive for the Broncos, Ajayi was the first player in FBS history to rush for 1,800-plus yards and collect 500-plus receiving yards. We like him as a potential fit for the Jaguars in the second round.

NFL | UNLV WR Devante Davis says hamstring getting better    Wed Feb 4, 08:03 PM

Mark Anderson, from the Las Vegas Review Journal, reports that UNLV WR Devante Davis' hamstring injury he suffered at the Senior Bowl is getting better. "It gets better daily," Davis said. "I'm able to jog and cut a little bit better than when I first hurt it."

Footballguys view: Both our Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman were heartbroken when Davis injured himself at the first day of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year. They were attending practice to scout the next group of top seniors, and Davis was a player high on their list. Davis is likely a late-round pick, but he has an intriguing size/speed combination that should interest any team that needs WR depth with upside. We think a team like the Jaguars could show interest.

Jaguars | Greg Jones moved to reserve/retired list    Wed Feb 4, 07:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars FB Greg Jones was placed on the reserve/retired list Tuesday, Feb. 3. The move was strictly a formality, as Jones signed a contract with the Jaguars last month and retired.

Footballguys view: Jones signed a one-day contract with the Jaguars so he could retire as a member of the team. He was a fantastic player at Florida State, and Jones turned in a great career as a fullback in the NFL. Jones could have done more as a runner, but he sacrificed his stats so that he could blast open holes for the backs behind him.

Jaguars | Owner expects Justin Blackmon back?    Sun Feb 1, 08:59 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has 'paid his dues' and has 'his life together,' according to owner Shahid Khan. Khan is also 'very optimistic' Blackmon will return to the team next season.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars were originally looking at Blackmon as a longshot to return. Now, it seems like Blackmon will be able to return in 2015. He'll need to apply for reinstatement with the league, then commissioner Roger Goodell will have 60 days to make a decision.

Jaguars | Owner supports Blake Bortles    Sat Jan 31, 02:24 PM

Ryan O'Halloran, from the Florida Times-Union, reports that Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is incredibly supportive of QB Blake Bortles. "I love [quarterback] Blake [Bortles], and I think he's a key building block moving forward," Khan said. "We have to unlock his potential and we needed to have somebody who has done that before and has a great track record. I think [new offensive coordinator] Greg [Olson] is about as good as it gets."

Footballguys view: Bortles gained a ton of experience during his rookie year in 2014. He didn't improve much as the season went on, but the Jaguars will work diligently to put a better offense around him in 2015. He's their franchise quarterback, and they'll give Bortles every opportunity to succeed this year and in the future.

Jaguars | Paul Posluszny vows to be ready    Tue Jan 27, 11:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (pectoral) said Monday, Jan. 26, that he is progressing nicely in his recovery from a torn pectoral muscle. 'I'm pretty much back to normal,' Posluszny said.

Footballguys view: Posluszny is a fine athlete, but he seems to be always banged up. He has resumed weightlifting and vows to be ready for the team's offseason program which begins in mid-April.

Jaguars | Paul Posluszny returning to form    Mon Jan 26, 11:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (chest) said Monday, Jan. 26, that he is back to lifting after dealing with a torn pectoral muscle last season, and he expects to be 100% when offseason activities begin in April.

Footballguys view: The story with Posluszny will always read "what might have been." He's a fantastic athlete who can fly around the field. Posluszny arrives at the ball with natural violence and can be a disruptive player on the defense. Too bad he's almost always banged up. We're hopeful he can stay healthy and shine for the Jaguars defense in 2015.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon to return in 2015?    Sun Jan 25, 09:13 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has overcome his issues, and plenty of league sources expect him to be back with the team in 2015.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars aren't counting on Blackmon right now, but if he can play it's a huge bonus. Like Josh Gordon, Blackmon is incredibly talented but had substance-abuse problems. If he's clean, Blackmon will be the best wide receiver on the team and give QB Blake Bortles a quality weapon to throw to. Stay tuned.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to work out with receivers    Sun Jan 25, 09:58 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he plans to have a passing camp in Southern California in February with his wide receivers, tight ends and running backs in order to work on their chemistry.

Footballguys view: We like the motivation of this young quarterback. Bortles did not improve much as a rookie, but he gained valuable experience as a 14-game starter. Working with his receivers should help them have better chemistry on the field this next season.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles should benefit from new OC    Wed Jan 21, 03:36 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles should be able to develop under new offensive coordinator Greg Olson, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. Caldwell said Olson has the ability to develop quarterbacks and that his style of offense is tailored for young players.

Footballguys view: Bortles had some struggles as a rookie this year, which had to be expected. While he didn't improve much in his first season, Bortles did get plenty of experience. We'll see if the Jaguars can put better talent around him in 2015.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles developed bad habits    Wed Jan 21, 03:05 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles developed bad habits and may need to start over, in the opinion of NFL Films guru Greg Cosell.

Footballguys view: Those habits were already developed in college at Central Florida. Bortles has always been more of a facilitator than a playmaker at the quarterback position. Last year did nothing to change that standpoint.

Jaguars | Jags committed to zone-blocking scheme    Tue Jan 20, 05:30 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said the team is committed to remaining a zone-blocking team. However, new assistant coach and offensive line coach Doug Marrone didn't use a zone-blocking scheme while with the Buffalo Bills, and he has preferred bigger offensive linemen. Buffalo had the league's heaviest offensive line in his two seasons as head coach. Regardless, Bradley wants his offense committed to the run to take the pressure off QB Blake Bortles.

Footballguys view: The situation with Marrone is a curious one. We'll see what kind of ground game they build in Jacksonville, but we agree that it's wise to have a strong one to help out their young quarterback.

Jaguars | George Yarno won't return    Tue Jan 20, 12:58 PM

Jaguars | Greg Jones signed    Fri Jan 16, 02:40 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent FB Greg Jones Thursday, Jan. 15. It was a one-day contract so Jones could officially retire as a Jaguar.

Footballguys view: Nice move here. Jones carved out a nice pro career after coming out of Florida State years ago. He won't show up much in the stat box, but Jones was a punishing fullback who could smash open holes for the back behind him.

Jaguars | Jags not interested in Marc Trestman?    Wed Jan 14, 10:36 PM

Free-agent coach Marc Trestman (Bears) made a push for a shot at the Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator position but has not gotten a look.

Footballguys view: Trestman is making the rounds, but he hasn't found a home yet. While he has been a great offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the NFL, might his quick failure in Chicago be keeping him on the shelf? We'll see if someone wants to see what he can do as a coordinator soon enough.

Jaguars | Doug Marrone spotted in Jacksonville    Wed Jan 14, 10:33 PM

Free-agent head coach Doug Marrone (Bills) was spotted at EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wednesday, Jan. 14. The Jaguars are looking to fill their offensive coordinator position after firing Jedd Fisch Dec. 30.

Jaguars | Leaning away from Marc Trestman    Fri Jan 9, 07:24 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be leaning away from Marc Trestman as an offensive coordinator candidate at this time.

Footballguys view: That would be a fine move for the Jaguars. Trestman would be able to craft an offense around Blake Bortles that best suits his skill set.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent WR Arrelious Benn (Eagles) to a two-year deal Wednesday, Dec. 31, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Benn has failed to stay healthy and impress during his time as a pro. When he came out of Illinois as a second-round pick for the Buccaneers in 2010, Benn had some upside because of his size and run-after-the-catch ability. Now, only deep dynasty owners should be monitoring his progress.

Jaguars | Jags not counting on Justin Blackmon    Tue Dec 30, 01:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon isn't necessarily in the team's plans for next season, according to general manager David Caldwell. However, the team would like to have him on the field if he's ready, and they aren't expected to release him, either. 'I think we have to treat it as a luxury. If he comes back that's great, if he doesn't -- we can't count on it. We feel good about the three guys we've got and if he comes back that's even better,' Caldwell said.

Footballguys view: We're just hoping that Blackmon is getting his life back on track. The Jags have heard that Blackmon has dedicated himself to being healthier and returning to football. Jacksonville is under no financial obligation to keep Blackmon since he's not currently on the roster. It would be a huge boost for the offense if Blackmon was sober and back on the football field.

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Sen'Derrick Marks (knee) will have surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Monday, Dec. 29. Marks suffered the injury in Week 17.

Footballguys view: Just a bad way to end the season for Marks. With this surgery, Marks faces a long road to recovery. His status for the start of training camp--or the start of the regular season--is very much in doubt.
