Jaguars | Denard Robinson in the clear?    Mon Jul 25, 07:28 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson didn't do anything wrong during his one-car crash into a retention pond earlier this month, according to general manager David Caldwell. Robinson is expected to address the media for the first time since the incident Thursday, July 28, at which time the team will have their first training camp practice.

Footballguys view: It was a bizarre story, but it sounds like Robinson just fell asleep behind the wheel. Fantasy owners are not going to be counting on Robinson in 2016. The Jaguars added Chris Ivory in free agency, and he'll be used with T.J. Yeldon to soften up opposing defenses.

Undrafted free-agent PK Sam Ficken (Penn State) signed an undisclosed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, July 25.

Jaguars | Rashad Greene should be slot receiver    Fri Jul 22, 05:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene is the leading candidate to be the team's top slot receiver in 2016. Greene is also expected to be the primary punt returner.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns to move around    Fri Jul 22, 05:36 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns will receive playing time as a slot receiver in addition to lining up as an outside receiver, according to wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan.

Footballguys view: Hurns will compete with Julius Thomas to be the #2 target behind Allen Robinson, with Marqise Lee and Rashad Greene also getting targets as the #3 and #4 receivers. Hurns will have trouble being a fantasy WR2 this year unless he has a high touchdown rate again and the Jaguars have to run a more wide open offense again because they are a losing team.

Jaguars | Jacksonville not signing Greg Hardy     Thu Jul 21, 10:16 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Cowboys) visited with and worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, July 21, but he will not be signed at this time, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are the only known visit for Hardy since the Cowboys let him hit the open market. He's one of the more controversial players out there due to his behavior, and we don't think any team would add him unless they're really desperate. The Cowboys will barely be able to field a defense early this year due to injuries and suspensions, and even they have no interest in Hardy...or at least that's what reports indicate.

Jaguars | Greg Hardy visits Jaguars    Thu Jul 21, 07:25 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Cowboys) visited the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, July 21. The Jaguars have been considering Hardy since springtime.

Footballguys view: Hardy was not terribly effective for the Cowboys and became more of a hindrance and a headache than a help. We're not sure we'd love the fit either culturally or on the field.

Jaguars | Luke Joeckel could play left guard    Mon Jul 18, 02:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Luke Joeckel is an option to play left guard, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. OT Kelvin Beachum (knee) could take over for Joeckel at left tackle if/when Beachum is cleared to play from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last year.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles liked to go deep    Mon Jul 18, 01:27 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was tied for first with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in completions of at least 25 yards (39), and he was ninth in completions (355), sixth in attempts (606) and seventh in yards (4,428). However, Bortles also had 23 total turnovers in 2015, only a 58.6 completion percentage and took 51 sacks.

Footballguys view: Bortles had an air-yards-per-attempt average of 9.24 yards, a mark good for 4th-best in the league for 16-game starters. Opposing defenses went after Bortles early and often, and he was blitzed on average 35.2 percent of his dropbacks in 2015 (8th-highest in the NFL). We'll see if Bortles sees a bit less pressure this year with what should be an improved rushing attack with T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory. He should still be in 'attack' mode when dropping back to pass, and with more experience he might be more careful with the rock.

Jaguars | Brandon Allen could make team    Sun Jul 17, 05:21 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Brandon Allen impressed coaches during offseason workouts and has a chance to make the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Allen has what some in the scouting community have called 'sneaky' arm talent. He's accurate on short-to-intermediate throws, and we like his pass-placement when leading receives across the field. He has plenty of experience utilizing play-action passing to move the ball through the air. At only 6'1", Allen may not have ideal size but he's a tough leader who is not afraid to make challenging throws. He's a deep dynasty prospect we will be monitoring closely.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles talks with other QBs    Sun Jul 17, 05:12 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles talked with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer this offseason to see how he could improve his play.

Footballguys view: That's a good sign for the young passer. He is only entering the third season of his pro career, and the Jaguars passing game is one of the most exciting units out there for fantasy owners. Bortles threw for 4,428 yards and 35 touchdown passes a year ago, and it will be interesting to see what he does for an encore this season. Reaching out to guys like Rodgers and Palmer can only help improve his game. Bortles has put up the numbers, but being more consistent is something he can definitely work on.

Jaguars | Rashad Greene the likely No. 3 WR    Sun Jul 17, 02:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene is expected to be the No. 3 wide receiver and play in the slot again behind WRs Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars passing game is an exciting one for fantasy owners, and we like Greene's skill set as the team's third WR. Coming out of Florida State, Greene showed the ability to get on top of a defense in a hurry...from the outside or as a speed slot. He's got the concentration to make difficult catches near the sideline, and Greene can haul in passes over the middle knowing he's going to get hit. He's a dynasty prospect we like monitoring, and he's a player re-draft owners should keep on the waiver wire speed dial in case of an injury above him on the depth chart.

Jaguars | A timeshare in the Jacksonville backfield?    Sun Jul 17, 08:35 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RBs Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon could have close to an even split of playing time, in the opinion of The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to navigate this situation correctly. In PPR leagues, Ivory is coming off the board first--but it's close. Ivory has a current ADP of RB33 (7.11) while Yeldon's ADP is RB36 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues. Yeldon flashed as a rookie last year, but he wore down as the season went on and only lasted 12 games. This year, the team will use a near 50/50 split to help keep both Yeldon and Ivory fresh. We see both as RB3-caliber backs in 2016.

Jaguars | Jordan Tripp has chance to make team    Fri Jul 15, 08:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Jordan Tripp should have a good chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster because he can play all three linebacker spots and can be used on all four special teams units.

Footballguys view: Tripp is one of the more versatile players on the roster, so we feel his roster spot is secure. He finds the ball quickly and rarely takes false steps when diagnosing a play.

Jaguars | Myles Jack may see time at OLB    Fri Jul 15, 08:30 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Myles Jack worked at middle linebacker during offseason workouts but could receive playing time at strongside linebacker during the season. Jack will be on the field when the team is in their nickel and dime packages.

Footballguys view: Jack can do whatever the Jaguars want him to do. He's got high football intelligence, the speed to capture most any opponent and the agility to cover consistently.

Jaguars | Neal Sterling moving to TE    Thu Jul 7, 01:18 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Neal Sterling will move from wide receiver to tight end this season.

Footballguys view: His value was already bottom of the barrel and behind Julius Thomas, it's even more low-end. A seventh-round pick out of Monmouth in the 2015 NFL draft, Sterling was always considered a 'tweener prospect by the scouting community. He's only worth monitoring in the deepest of deep dynasty leagues.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson was not drunk    Tue Jul 5, 07:10 PM

Jaguars | Blake Bortles will receive extension    Sun Jul 3, 04:58 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will receive a contract extension as soon as the collective bargaining agreement allows the Jaguars to sign him in 2017.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are likely to use more of the no-huddle offense in 2016. Bortles was a great value for fantasy owners last year, and he finished the season as the 4th-best QB in standard-scoring leagues. This season, we expect Bortles to be at least a top-10 fantasy option at the position...and it wouldn't surprise to see him finish with another top-5 season.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas dominant in OTAs    Sun Jun 26, 07:55 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas has looked unstoppable in OTAs, according to beat writer Hays Carlyon.

Footballguys view: Thomas had a four game touchdown scoring streak last year, but he also had two of fewer catches in half of his games. While a hand injury got him off to a slow start in 2015, Thomas won't move ahead of Allen Hurns or Allen Robinson in the pecking order. He's still a low TE1 in early drafts, but he is cheap enough to be a solid Plan A.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey expected back by training camp    Sun Jun 26, 07:53 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) is doing well and should be ready to go when training camp opens next month.

Footballguys view: The knee Ramsey allegedly had microfracture surgery on as a teenager appears to be healing well from a meniscus clean up. He should be ready to matchup against Jordy Nelson in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

Jaguars | Bortles could still hit or top 35 touchdowns    Sat Jun 25, 09:31 PM

Hays Carlson of Jacksonville.com thinks expectations that Blake Bortles touchdown numbers will drop from his lofty level of 35 scores in 2015 are unfounded. The experience at receiver and tight end, continuity in the offense, improving running game, and better team and defense can keep Bortles at that level or even allow him to surpass it.

Footballguys view: Bortles is currently QB9 and a 7th/8th round pick in redraft leagues, which is not that steep considering his numbers last year and the compelling argument made by Carlson. The quarterback board is so stacked that most of them will give you a good chance to outproduce ADP.

Jaguars | Yannick Ngakoue signs rookie deal    Tue Jun 21, 11:05 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue signed his rookie four-year deal Tuesday, June 21. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: The team's third-round pick this year was known as a 'sack monster' during his time at Maryland. Last year, Ngakoue set a Maryland record and finished tied for second in the nation with 13.5 sacks. The Jaguars should find a way to rotate in the rookie for his pass-rushing skills.

  Jaguars | T.J. Yeldon the third-down back?    Fri Jun 17, 09:33 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon's improvement in pass protection was praised by offensive coordinator Greg Olson, and beat writer Ryan O'Halloran believes Yeldon is being slotted for the third-down back role while RB Chris Ivory will handle more of the carries on early downs.

Footballguys view: It's going to be interesting to see how Jacksonville splits the touches between these two RBs. Right now, fantasy owners believe Ivory has a bit more value than Yeldon. Ivory has an ADP of RB33 (7.08) while Yeldon is right behind him at RB34 (8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Rashad Greene starting in slot    Thu Jun 16, 10:18 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene has seen a majority of his reps as the first-team slot receiver, and he said he and QB Blake Bortles are becoming more comfortable working with each other.

Footballguys view: Greene is a fine receiver when healthy. He has the quickness to get open on underneath routes, and he's got a fearless nature when going over the middle. Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and TE Julius Thomas will get all of the fantasy love so Greene is mainly just a dynasty prospect.

Jaguars | Myles Jack impressing     Thu Jun 16, 06:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Myles Jack (knee) has shown good explosiveness, his ability to change direction and good instincts during minicamp, according to defensive coordinator Todd Wash. Wash also said Jack knows the defense from a mental standpoint.

Footballguys view: Short term has really not been the issue for Jack, it's the long term that concerned teams--although the way he dropped in the draft could mean they were worried about both. The league's hesitation is the Jaguars' gain as they got a top five talent in the second round. Jack should be an immediate boost to the defense.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey learning off the field    Thu Jun 16, 06:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) has been able to watch plenty of film and practices while he nurses his knee injury. Ramsey said he's been trying to stay mentally tuned in and has put himself in positions on the field from a mental standpoint. Ramsey added that he feels great and he'll be good to go for training camp.

Footballguys view: Half of being a corner is watching film, so Ramsey wasn't just hanging out at home. He'll still have a lot of work to do, but we're excited to see him in this defense.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey deems himself ready    Thu Jun 16, 01:03 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) deemed himself 100% after his May 24 knee surgery. He has been limited in camp, but he said he feels no pain.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have several players overcoming or dealing with medical concerns. Ramsey, Dante Fowler Jr and Myles Jack could be a great trio on defense if they can stay healthy though.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee impressing this offseason    Mon Jun 13, 06:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee has been healthy for an entire offseason for the first time since being drafted by the Jaguars and has been impressive during some of the organized team activities.

Footballguys view: It's been a long time since Lee looked good. You have to go back to his sophomore season in college at USC to see him look like a dominant player. The Jaguars are stacked at the WR position with Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.....getting Lee to do more would just make them even more dangerous through the air.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson drops some weight    Sun Jun 12, 05:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson said he wants to weigh around 205 to 210 pounds this season after playing at 215 to 218 pounds last season.

Footballguys view: The lighter weight should help Robinson play quicker and faster in 2016. He will compete with RB Corey Grant for the team's RB3 spot and the kick returner job during training camp.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson's status uncertain    Fri Jun 10, 06:03 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson's (hamstring) status for minicamp is uncertain because of his hamstring injury, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: There's no need to rush it here. Robinson is a star for the Jaguars, and he should once again be counted on to put up WR1 numbers for fantasy owners in 2016. His current ADP is WR7 (1.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jaguars | Myles Jack expected to practice    Fri Jun 10, 05:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Myles Jack (knee) should be able to participate in all of the drills during minicamp next week, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Jack will be used at middle linebacker during practice. Bradley said it will be interesting to see how much Jack has learned since he was not allowed to participate in organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Now that UCLA has graduated, Jack is able to practice with his team. Coming off knee surgery, expect the Jaguars to take it easy with the star linebacker as he gets used to the pro level.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey able to run    Fri Jun 10, 04:39 PM

Jaguars | Allen Hurns is allergic to grass    Thu Jun 9, 01:19 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns is allergic to grass, which is why he wears long sleeves and tries to cover as much of his body as possible. Hurns said he found out about his grass allergy in high school. Hurns said he doesn't experience breathing problems. His nose doesn't get stuffy or runny either. He has skin breakouts that vary in degrees. Some days they're barely there. Other days he said he has to take a medication after practice or games if it's a severe breakout.

Footballguys view: Well that's not optimal but as long as he can catch the ball it shouldn't matter. One of two 1,000 yard receivers for Jacksonville, (Allen Robinson was the other) Hurns should pick up right where he left off, and we expect a solid season from him, putting him in the WR3 range this year.

Jaguars | Chris Ivory back at practice    Tue Jun 7, 04:09 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (undisclosed) participated in practice Tuesday, June 7.

Footballguys view: Ivory is back in action, and he's going to give the Jaguars offense another dimension in 2016. The veteran back will split time with second-year pro T.J. Yeldon, and their fantasy values may be nearly the same. Both should be considered RB3-level with upside.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson sits out    Tue Jun 7, 03:57 PM

Jaguars | More on Allen Hurns' deal    Tue Jun 7, 11:10 AM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns' four-year, $40 million deal includes $16 million fully guaranteed at signing. The remaining $4 million guarantee becomes fully guaranteed the third day of free agency in 2018.

Footballguys view: So long as Hurns keeps going on his current trajectory, he should be able to see that final $4 million in guaranteed money. The Jaguars found a star from the ranks of the undrafted, and it's a great move to lock him up for a reasonable $10 million per year price.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas busy at OTAs    Mon Jun 6, 10:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' situation is much more stable this season, as he and QB Blake Bortles are building rapport during the offseason program. 'Julius looks good,' offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Monday, June 6. 'Guys that have been here have been relatively healthy and Julius has been one of those guys, so he's been able to get a lot of reps and a lot of work in so far.'

Footballguys view: There's been some interesting things about the Jaguars offense coming down the news wire in recent weeks. First, they're going to use a high pace on offense. That faster tempo should benefit the players on offense and could lead to higher production. Next, we're hearing nothing but good things about Thomas this offseason. Fantasy owners know the talent his there, but Thomas has never played a full 16-game season in his pro career. If healthy, Thomas could easily be a top-5 fantasy TE in 2016.
