Dolphins | Preparing to finish season without Ferguson Sat Nov 21, 08:25 PM
Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins are preparing to finish the season with DT Jason Ferguson (knee) because he suffered what appears to be a season-ending injury in Week 11, according to a source. It is not known if Ferguson will undergo surgery, but he likely will be placed on Injured Reserve if he can't finish the season.
| Our view: Paul Soliai, Ferguson's backup at nose tackle, has also been battling injuries. The Dolphins run defense is going to be weakened for the rest of the season without Ferguson, if not crippled. |

Harvey Fialkov and Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, report Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown (foot) underwent surgery Friday, Nov. 20, to repair a Lisfranc fracture to his right foot and head coach Tony Sparano said the surgery 'went well.' Although it is uncertain how long Brown's recovery time will be, OG Donald Thomas suffered a similar injury in the opening game last year and began training four months later.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins RB Lex Hilliard likely will be the team's primary backup at running back after the season-ending injury to RB Ronnie Brown (foot, ankle).
| Our view: Hilliard is a big power back that can pick up a lot of yards after contact. He's not a blazer, and it takes time for him to build up his speed. He doesn't have a second gear in the open field, and his game is to punish the defense up the gut. Hilliard has good balance and pad level, so he's hard to bring down once he builds up a head of steam. He's not much of a receiver out of the backfield, so we may see a little bit of undrafted rookie Kory Sheets as a change of pace runner. |

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) said Tuesday, Nov. 17, he has completed the first phase of his rehabilitation from season-ending shoulder surgery and now must map out a recovery program for the next six weeks. At this stage, Pennington said, he's not certain if he will play again. He might not make that decision until March. However, regardless of what that decision is, the chances of Pennington playing for the Dolphins again are quite slim. The team has a starting quarterback in QB Chad Henne. They have committed time and resources on making backup QB Pat White a success. They also have QB Tyler Thigpen under contract.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins TE Joey Haynos has shown that he is ready for his elevated role in the offense. 'I've seen it with my own eyes out there at times. Joey's had a big role in this Wildcat stuff, even when Fasano was there and having to make some of these critical edge blocks, and those type of things. Kind of learning how to play hand-in-hand with the tackles and do some of these things, so I've seen that kind of progress with him. You can see it on tape, he's getting better and better at it, and he's gone from one of these guys that you try and teach to block to a guy that's becoming a good blocker,' head coach Tony Sparano said.

He's presently battling soreness in his right foot, which was initially diagnosed as an ankle sprain. There is a possibility Brown will be sent to see a specialist within the next two days because the injury could sideline him for more than Week 11.
| Our view: With Ronnie Brown out we will see more of Ricky Williams. We could even see more of Lex Hilliard or Kory Sheets. Hilliard is a one speed, north/south, power runner that earns his living between the tackles. Sheets is a versatile back with good instincts, vision, and a great stiff arm. |
