'It was to the point last year I thought I was done playing football,' Taylor said. 'I didn't want to play anymore. I was out of it.   Dolphins | Mike Wallace digs new scheme    Wed Apr 23, 10:25 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said the team's new offensive system fits his big-play style.

Footballguys view: Wallace actually had a better season than his stats last year indicate. Ryan Tannehill had trouble throwing an accurate deep ball, and the west coast offense wasn't the best fit for Wallace's abilities. He'll be undervalued in redraft leagues if he falls out of the top 5 or 6 rounds.

Dolphins | Odell Beckham to visit    Sun Apr 20, 02:30 AM

The Miami Dolphins plan to bring in LSU WR Odell Beckham with one of their 30 allotted non-local visits.

Footballguys view: Beckham is likely to go off the board in the first round. Many consider him the third-best receiver available in the draft behind Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans. He's incredibly athletic, has insane body control and Beckham as the speed to be a threat after the catch. Beckham would add another weapon around Ryan Tannehill.

Dolphins | May be last season for Brian Hartline in Miami    Sun Apr 20, 02:15 AM

The Miami Dolphins may let WR Brian Hartline walk following the 2014 season if the team succeeds in drafting a receiver in the second round of the NFL Draft. Releasing Hartline would save the team $4 million.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins need better weapons in the passing game. Hartline is a sure-handed receiver, but he lacks much danger after the catch.

Dolphins | High on Ed Stinson    Sat Apr 19, 11:58 PM

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly high on Alabama DE Ed Stinson, who is a tweener-type projected as a mid-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Stinson is a strong and powerful player who can control his man at the line of scrimmage. He's not much of a pass-rusher, but he should be able to contribute at the pro level as a run defender.

Dolphins | Brandon Gibson injury update    Fri Apr 18, 04:20 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson (knee) said he expects to be ready to go for Week 1 of the NFL season.

Footballguys view: Gibson gives the Dolphins good depth at the wide receiver position, and he's also a decent red-zone threat. We're not expecting Gibson to be much of a fantasy factor in 2014 unless injuries hit in front of him on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Like Cyrus Kouandjio    Fri Apr 18, 03:57 PM

Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey likes Alabama OT Cyrus Kouandjio and the team could pick him with their first round pick.

Dolphins | Interested in Erik Swoope    Thu Apr 17, 07:32 PM

The Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in Miami basketball player Erik Swoope, who will be available in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Swoope has the height to be intriguing and many a former basketball player has transitioned to football but Swoope would be starting from scratch at the pro level. If this sounds nuts, blame the Denver Broncos for setting up a workout. Height, explosiveness and a good work ethic are all nice, but it'd be hard to spend a high pick on him or hold a roster spot open while he learns the fundamentals most players got in college at the latest.

Dolphins | Will meet with Aaron Murray    Wed Apr 16, 03:12 PM

The Miami Dolphins are scheduled to meet with Georgia QB Aaron Murray Wednesday, April 16.

Footballguys view: Murray would be an interesting fit with Joe Philbin. He has some Matt Flynn (Packers) to his game; smart, able to hit underneath routes accurately. Murray has higher upside than Flynn if he stays healthy and plays up to his potential.

Dolphins | Could have interest in Chris Johnson    Wed Apr 16, 01:40 PM

The Miami Dolphins are believed to have some interest in free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans).

Footballguys view: Even though the team already added Knowshon Moreno in free agency, they are still looking for running back help. Insert the "they won't overpay for Johnson" take here. We think the Dolphins are more likely to add a back in the draft.

Dolphins | Meet with Marqise Lee    Wed Apr 16, 12:27 PM

The Miami Dolphins were scheduled to meet with Southern California WR Marqise Lee Tuesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: Lee is a crisp route-runner, but he lacks elite speed. He'll catch passes, but too often body catches them. That leads to catches that aren't clean, bobbled, dropped or intercepted. He can gain separation with his guile, but lacks speed after the catch.

Dolphins | Will meet with two small school prospects    Wed Apr 16, 12:26 PM

The Miami Dolphins are scheduled to meet with Georgia State OL Ulrick John and Marist DE Terence Fede.

Dolphins | Expect big things from Dion Jordan    Tue Apr 15, 01:46 PM

Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey is expecting big things from DE Dion Jordan in his second season this year. "He's a very talented player and this is a big offseason for him," Hickey said. "Last year with his shoulder he didn't have an opportunity to have a full offseason. That's so important. Developing and getting your body -- not just the physical reps but the mental reps -- getting in the weight room and all those things is such an important part to get these guys ready to make that jump.'

Footballguys view: The Dolphins recently rejected a trade offer from the Philadelphia Eagles for Jordan. He's a talented pass-rusher with a nice combination of power and speed.

Dolphins | Could be interested in Jermichael Finley if cleared    Mon Apr 14, 03:23 PM

Updating a previous report, the Miami Dolphins have told the agent of free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) that they could be interested in signing Finley if he is cleared to play again after next surgery.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Finley is coming back from a scary neck injury, so teams will be cautious when considering him. If healthy, he could give the Dolphins another weapon in the passing game. He has experience working under Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin from their days together when Philbin was the Packers offensive coordinator.

Dolphins | Rejected deal for Dion Jordan    Sun Apr 13, 11:59 PM

The Miami Dolphins reportedly rejected a trade offer from the Philadelphia Eagles for LB Dion Jordan, according to a league source. The Eagles offered a second-round draft pick and LB Brandon Graham.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins could hold out for the Eagles first-round pick. We don't think they would surrender that even though Jordan is highly thought of by Chip Kelly. Jordan played for Kelly during his time in college at Oregon.

Dolphins | Will host Donte Moncrief    Sun Apr 13, 11:57 PM

The Miami Dolphins have scheduled a visit with Mississippi WR Donte Moncrief to meet with team officials this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Moncrief is a big-bodied wide receiver with good speed downfield. He's quick in and out of his breaks, and Moncrief can regularly adjust to poorly thrown passes. The Dolphins are looking for a young receiver to groom behind Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.

Dolphins | Have talked to Jermichael Finley    Sun Apr 13, 06:25 PM

The Miami Dolphins have talked to free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers).

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Dolphins could use some help at the tight end position, and Finley has experience working with head coach Joe Philbin when they were both with the Packers. Finley is going to get X-Rays and an MRI on his neck in the upcoming week. When he's cleared medically, there should be a few teams interested in his services. Because of his durability concerns, Finley may have to accept a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

Dolphins | Unlikely to add Chris Johnson    Sat Apr 12, 08:52 PM

The Miami Dolphins likely will not sign free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans) because they added RB Knowshon Moreno earlier in the offseason.

Footballguys view: Johnson is going to have to wait for an opportunity. The Dolphins may draft a back to add to the mix, but the price tag for Johnson is likely too rich.
