Dolphins | Mike Gillislee will compete for starting job Sun May 19, 02:43 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Mike Gillislee is expected to compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.
| Footballguys view: Gillislee is a good all-purpose back and was praised in college at Florida for his pass protection skills. He gets stronger as the game goes on and averaged 2.0 yards after contact per rush in the second half of games last year compared to 1.5 yards after contact per rush in the first half. |
Dolphins | Dion Jordan expects clearance by camp Sun May 19, 02:22 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan (shoulder) said he expects to receive medical clearance to participate by the time training camp begins.
| Footballguys view: Getting Jordan on the field will be a boost for the pass rush. He's an explosive pass rusher with good first step quickness and snap anticipation. Jordan had five sacks last season at Oregon, none of which came against a double-team. He was the only one of the top 10 DE/DT/OLB prospects with at least a 90 grade by Scouts, Inc. to not have a sack against a double-team. |

Dolphins | Two expected to compete for No. 3 WR job Sat May 18, 02:10 PM
Miami Dolphins WRs Brandon Gibson and Armon Binns are expected to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver job during offseason workouts and training camp.
| Footballguys view: We like Gibson in this battle here. Binns has good size but lacks the concentration and explosion that Gibson has. Gibson has the ability to be effective as a red zone target because of his wingspan and strong hands. |

The Miami Dolphins signed RB Mike Gillislee (Florida) to a four-year contract worth $2.322 million, including $162,800 bonus Friday, May 17.
| Footballguys view: Gillislee is a tough interior runner who gets stronger as the game goes on. He averaged 2.0 yards after contact per rush in the second half of games last year compared to 1.5 yards after contact per rush in the first half. He's a good runner, reliable pass protector, and decent receiver out of the backfield. Gillislee will compete with Daniel Thomas to be the primary backup behind Lamar Miller in 2013. |

Dolphins | Sign Dion Sims Fri May 17, 02:00 PM
The Miami Dolphins signed TE Dion Sims to a four-year contract Friday, May 17. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: Sims is built like an offensive lineman but has the natural receiving skills to be an effective target at the pro level. He's overcome durability and maturity issues in college and has intriguing upside for the Dolphins. Sims looks in passes regularly and has the size to block out defenders from the ball. He'll begin his pro career as a backup behind Dustin Keller but dynasty owners need to keep their eye on this rookie. |
Dolphins | Marvin McNutt claimed Wed May 15, 05:39 PM
The Miami Dolphins have claimed WR Marvin McNutt off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles.
| Footballguys view: McNutt is a big, physical WR who can be a good red zone target. He struggles to gain separation in his routes and thus has to make many contested catches. McNutt is not a lock to make the team and will have to fight for a spot on the depth chart in training camp. |

Dolphins | Mike Wallace thinks chemistry with QB will be fine Wed May 15, 03:31 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said he does not think building chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill will not be too difficult and expects the chemistry to be fine once training camp begins. Wallace said he works with Tannehill after each practice.
| Footballguys view: Tannehill has better weapons around him this year and should be able to make more plays than he did last year. He's got a big arm, athleticism, and fantastic pocket presence. Wallace should be able to become a favorite of Tannehill quickly. |

Dolphins | Salary could be factor in PK competition Wed May 15, 03:04 PM

Dolphins | Aaron Corp signs Wed May 15, 09:35 AM
The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent QB Aaron Corp (Cowboys) to a one-year deal.
| Footballguys view: Corp was originally a USC QB who then transferred to Richmond. He went undrafted in 2012 and this is his third team in two years. Corp will compete with Pat Devlin for the team's third-string job behind Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore. |
Dolphins | Jonathan Martin happy to know role Wed May 15, 12:07 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin is relieved to know he is set to play left tackle this season, replacing the departed OT Jake Long (Rams). The team is privately optimistic Martin can do the job, and become a good left tackle. Martin is working to add 20 pounds this offseason, going up to 318. He said he not only wants to get bigger, but also 'stronger and tougher.'
| Footballguys view: Martin played left tackle in college at Stanford where he protected the blind side of Andrew Luck. He's athletic enough to play on the left side of the line but struggles against edge rushers with a combination of power and speed. He needs to bulk up but at the same time not lose any of the quickness on his kick step. |
Dolphins | Jared Odrick not too concerned Wed May 15, 12:06 AM
Miami Dolphins DL Jared Odrick said Tuesday, May 14, that he doesn't view the selection of DE Dion Jordan as a threat to his job. 'None whatsoever,' Odrick said. 'I plan on being a solid, consistent contributor to this defense for many years to come.'

Dolphins | Lamar Miller working with NFL starter Wed May 15, 12:05 AM
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has been working out with San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore during the offseason. Gore, a fellow University of Miami alum, counseled Miller on lessons learned in the NFL. Miller said Tuesday, May 14, he is staying at 215 pounds, but adding more muscle mass.
| Footballguys view: Miller is getting the nod as the team's starter this year. He'll have to prove that he can handle the full workload in 2013. Miller's current ADP is RB24 and he's coming off the board near the middle of round four. Rookie Mike Gillislee and veteran Daniel Thomas will compete for the backup job behind Miller. |
Frank Gore player page
Dolphins | Daniel Thomas not conceding anything Wed May 15, 12:04 AM
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is considered the front-runner for the starting running back job, although RB Daniel Thomas said Tuesday, May 14, that he shouldn't be overlooked. 'I don't know why (Miller) would have the inside track,' Thomas said. 'It's an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up. I'm looking to be that guy. That's why I put the work in.'
| Footballguys view: Thomas has struggled to impress during his time in the pros. Miller should be the starter for the Dolphins this year and Thomas will have to compete with rookie Mike Gillislee for the backup job. |
Dolphins | No switch for Koa Misi Wed May 15, 12:02 AM
Miami Dolphins LB Koa Misi said Tuesday, May 14, that the team had initial discussions about switching him to middle linebacker, but that will not happen. LB Dannell Ellerbe is expected to play the position.

Miami Dolphins TE Dion Sims is expected to push for playing time after dropping to 264 pounds from the 280-pound range. The team expects to use him in two-tight end sets with TE Dustin Keller. Keller isn't known to be a great blocker, and Sims will be relied upon to block.

Dolphins | Rookie Gillislee gets stronger as the game goes on Thu May 9, 08:05 PM
Dolphins rookie RB Mike Gillislee averaged 2.0 yards after contact per rush in second half of games last year for the Gators, compared to 1.5 yards after contact per rush in the first half.
| Footballguys view: Gillislee is a versatile player who can contribute as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. He'll compete with Daniel Thomas to be the primary backup behind Lamar Miller. We wouldn't be surprised to see him win the job over Thomas. |

Dolphins | Dion Sims could see significant playing time Mon May 6, 04:34 PM
Miami Dolphins TE Dion Sims could see time in two-tight end sets this season because of his blocking ability.
| Footballguys view: The team has high hopes for Sims. He's an excellent athlete who can create mismatches when he's on the field. The team added Dustin Keller in free agency earlier this year but he's never quite played up to his potential. Sims will be in a two TE set this year but could have a bigger role in the future. |
Dolphins | Two rookie CBs could compete for starting job Mon May 6, 04:26 PM
Miami Dolphins CBs Jamar Taylor and Will Davis could compete for a starting cornerback job during offseason workouts and training camp.
| Footballguys view: Taylor should win this job. He's got a good size/speed combination and can fly to the football when the pass is thrown. Taylor is athletic, showing the ability to transition quickly from backpedal to sprint. Davis is a quality player as well. He led the NCAA with an average of 1.75 pass break ups per game in 2012. He's a finesse player with speed, but not the tackler that Taylor is. |
Dolphins | Will bring Dion Jordan slowly Mon May 6, 04:10 PM
The Miami Dolphins are expected to use DE Dion Jordan as a third-down pass rusher this season.
| Footballguys view: Jordan has rare athleticism for his size but is still a raw player who needs refined technique. He has tremendous burst off the line of scrimmage but needs to develop more than just speed moves as a pass rusher. |
Dolphins | Competition at LG? Mon May 6, 08:05 AM
Miami Dolphins G Richie Incognito may have to compete with third-round pick G Dallas Thomas for the starting LG spot.

Dolphins | Coach explains changes at LB Sun May 5, 11:43 AM
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team was looking to add faster linebackers to their defense, which is why they released LBs Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett and added Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler and Jelani Jenkins. Philbin said the team wanted linebackers that could cover pass catchers man-to-man and blitz effectively because the NFL is becoming a passing league.
| Footballguys view: Nickel defenses are becoming the base set in the NFL as opponents are more pass happy than ever. Linebackers need better coverage skills because of the emergence of move tight ends who can attack the seam. |

Dolphins | Jonathan Martin likely will be LT Sun May 5, 11:26 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin likely will be the team's starting left tackle this season after the team added OT Tyson Clabo to start at right tackle.
| Footballguys view: Martin struggled as a rookie on the right side so it's a bit of a gamble to move him to the left side. He was a left tackle in college (Stanford) and protected Andrew Luck's blind side. Martin is functionally strong but struggled with edge rushers on the left side. |
Dolphins | Tyson Clabo agrees to terms Sun May 5, 11:04 AM
The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with free-agent OT Tyson Clabo (Falcons) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: The veteran right tackle is a power blocker so the fit is a bit odd in the Dolphins' zone blocking system. This deal locks in second-year OT Jonathan Martin as the team's left tackle. It's a good thing QB Ryan Tannehill is mobile because Martin was known to struggle with edge rushers while protecting Andrew Luck's blindside in college at Stanford. |
Dolphins | Sign 13 UDFAs Sat May 4, 02:51 PM
The Miami Dolphins have signed undrafted free-agent OG Chris Barker (Nevada), QB Clay Belton (Findlay), C Sam Brenner (Utah), LB Michael Clay (Oregon), DT A.J. Francis (Maryland), S Keelan Johnson (Arizona State), S Jordan Kovaks (Michigan), FB Ina Liaina (San Jose State), RB Cameron Marshall (Arizona State), LB Robert McCabe (Georgetown), DE Tristan Okpalugo (Fresno State), DE Emeka Onyenekwu (Louisiana-Lafayette) and OT Patrick Ward (Northwestern). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Dolphins | Jordan dangerous one-on-one Sat May 4, 02:01 PM
Dolphins first-round pick OLB Dion Jordan had five sacks last year, none of which came against a double team. Jordan was the only one of the top 10 DE/DT/OLB prospects with at least a 90 grade by Scouts, Inc. to not have a sack versus multiple blockers.
| Footballguys view: Jordan is an athletic phenomenon and has high upside as a pass rusher. The Dolphins moved up from 12 to 3 in order to secure his services. With proper coaching and more muscle mass we could see Jordan become one of the league's best. |
Dolphins | No timetable for Dion Jordan Fri May 3, 06:20 PM
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said there is no timetable for DE Dion Jordan's (shoulder) return. 'He's going to get himself well as quickly and completely as he possibly can, whenever that is,' Philbin said. 'And when the medical people deem that he's healthy, he will be joining us on a full-time basis.'
| Footballguys view: The Dolphins are going to be careful with their first-round pick. There's no rush to push him onto the field prematurely. |
Dolphins | Dion Jordan missing practice Fri May 3, 02:59 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan (shoulder) is not participating in the team's minicamp practice Friday, May 3.
| Footballguys view: The Dolphins are going to be cautious with their 2013 first-round pick. Jordan has position versatility and can line up at defensive end or linebacker. |
Dolphins | Jon Richt tries out Fri May 3, 02:59 PM
Free agent QB Jon Richt (Mars Hill) is trying out with the Miami Dolphins Friday, May 3.
