Dolphins | Extension talks with Mike Pouncey on hold    Wed Jul 23, 12:58 PM

The Miami Dolphins has stopped contract extension talks with C Mike Pouncey (hip) for the time being.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey could miss first half of season    Wed Jul 23, 12:21 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) could miss the first eight weeks of the season because of the hip surgery he had this offseason, according to a source. He will be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of training camp and could stay on the PUP list when the regular season begins.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins will have five new starters on the offensive line to begin the regular season. Losing their best piece up front (Pouncey) will certainly sting. We're excited about the Dolphins new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, but the team needs quality blocking in order to execute this Chip Kelly-like offense.

Dolphins | Mike Brisiel of interest    Mon Jul 21, 02:54 PM

Free-agent OG Mike Brisiel has reportedly garnered interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason. The New York Giants could also be in the mix following the retirement of OG Chris Snee.

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is likely to miss at least the first couple of games as he recovers from hip surgery.

Dolphins | Three WRs may compete for one spot    Fri Jul 18, 08:40 PM

Miami Dolphins WRs Damian Williams, Armon Binns and Matt Hazel may compete for one roster spot during training camp.

Footballguys view: Binns might have the most upside here (although there's little fantasy value to be mined). He has a large frame and the wingspan to be a red-zone threat. Williams has good length and can track passes deep. Hazel is a rookie (sixth-round pick) with the ability to get open quickly on underneath routes.

Dolphins | Two competing for No. 3 QB job    Fri Jul 18, 08:24 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Pat Devlin appears to have a slight edge over QB Brock Jensen for the No. 3 quarterback job entering training camp because of his experience. Neither player stood out during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Jensen was a gritty winner at North Dakota State, and the rookie plays with a ton of heart. He led the North Dakota State Bison to three consecutive national championships (2011-2013) in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Devlin was a standout during his time in college at Delaware, but he hasn't looked very good during the preseason with the Dolphins over the last few years.

Dolphins | Shelley Smith expected to start at RG    Fri Jul 18, 08:09 PM

Miami Dolphins OG Shelley Smith is expected to start at right guard this upcoming season but could be moved to center because of the injury to C Mike Pouncey (hip).

Dolphins | Billy Turner signed    Fri Jul 18, 07:08 PM

The Miami Dolphins have signed third-round draft choice OT Billy Turner to a four-year deal worth an estimated $3.1 million. The signing bonus is believed to be around $700,000.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey faces lawsuit    Tue Jul 15, 04:35 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey will be sued for his alleged role in a nightclub disturbance Saturday, July 12. An alleged physical altercation occurred involving Pouncey, and a statement was taken by police. The police did not identify a suspect.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace wants to return kicks    Tue Jul 15, 01:28 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said he could return kicks in 2014, something he has always wanted to do. 'I might get back there for kickoff returns,' Wallace said. 'I just want to be on the field making an impact for my team. I've always wanted to return kicks ever since I've been in the NFL.'

Footballguys view: The team would like to get more out of Wallace this year. He was a disappointment during his first year with the Dolphins in 2013, and Wallace has an enormous $17 million cap number this season.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey unlikely to be suspended    Tue Jul 15, 10:28 AM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey is unlikely to be suspended for allegations of his involvement in the dispute with former Dolphins OG Richie Incognito and San Francisco 49ers OT Jonathan Martin.

Footballguys view: More good news for Pouncey here. He was recently cleared of any wrongdoing in an alleged assault at a night club, and now it looks like he's in the clear for his role (which he doesn't regret) in BullyGate. Pouncey is already going to miss around four weeks at the start of the regular season as he recovers from hip surgery.

Dolphins | Matt Moore understands role    Sun Jul 13, 08:45 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore said he understands his role as the backup quarterback and will be ready if he is called on to play. 'I just do my job and try and succeed. Everyone has that competitor in them, and at this level, you have to understand your role. This is it. I'm here to push [QB Ryan Tannehill] and challenge him and compete the best I can. I'll be ready at a moment's notice and be ready to do well,' Moore said.

Footballguys view: Moore knows the deal. He's a veteran backup who won't push for the starting job. However, he needs to be ready to start in case of an injury to Ryan Tannehill.

Dolphins | Cortland Finnegan praised by head coach    Thu Jul 10, 06:51 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Cortland Finnegan received praise from head coach Joe Philbin recently, who said the veteran cornerback fits nicely into the defense's chemistry. Philbin added that Finnegan is a passionate player who works with purpose and provides a good example for younger players.

Footballguys view: Finnegan is nowhere near the player he used to be, but that hasn't swayed the opinion of the Dolphins. We should see Finnegan start opposite of Brent Grimes in 2014. Young corners like Jamar Taylor and Will Davis will push for playing time as well.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan will not appeal suspension    Thu Jul 10, 02:45 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan does not plan to appeal his four-game suspension and has accepted the punishment.

Footballguys view: Already rumored to have been on the trading block, Jordan just wants to do his time and get back on the field. He needs to hope there is still a spot for him though, as the team will be well into the season by the time he returns and he was unimpressive last season.

Dolphins | Billy Turner appears to be backup LT    Thu Jul 10, 02:35 PM

Miami Dolphins OG Billy Turner probably would take over at left tackle if OT Branden Albert suffered an injury during training camp or the preseason.

Footballguys view: The Miami depth was tested last year with all the chaos and it passed but you can never have too much. They need Ryan Tannehill to take a step forward and in order to do that he needs to have time to throw. A lot of the sacks he took last year were on him though, so hopefully the clock in his head speeds up as well.

Dolphins | Daryn Colledge terms    Mon Jul 7, 10:10 AM

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins OG Daryn Colledge can earn up to $2 million in his contract. Of his $1.25 million base salary, $250,000 is guaranteed.

Dolphins | Derrick Shelby expected to get more time    Thu Jul 3, 06:33 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Derrick Shelby probably will receive more playing time because of DE Dion Jordan's four-game suspension.

Footballguys view: Shelby might actually straight up be the better player anyway. He played more snaps and was more effective than Jordan was last season anyway. This is why we think Jordan's roster spot is in trouble long term--he may not have a role when his suspension is over.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan unlikely a cut candidate    Thu Jul 3, 05:06 PM

The Miami Dolphins likely will not consider releasing DE Dion Jordan after he received a four-game suspension, because they would have to deal with $7.9 million in dead money on their salary cap.

Footballguys view: Despite the suspension, the Dolphins can't afford to eat the cap space as they carry some very expensive contracts already. It's going to be hard to trade him as well, as his value took a dive--and was clearly not all that great to begin with since they couldn't move him predraft.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan suspended    Thu Jul 3, 04:14 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Footballguys view: The No. 3 overall pick in last year's draft put on nearly 20 pounds and reportedly looked like someone pumped him up with air. Now we know why. After a disappointing rookie season, Jordan needed to make an impact this season, but that's in doubt. Miami was toying with trading him before, so their frustration level was already high. He's pledged to come back strong from his suspension but by the time he returns it could be too late. Moving up to grab him last year appears to have been an epic blunder.

Dolphins | Liked Ryan Harris during workout    Wed Jul 2, 01:55 PM

The Miami Dolphins liked how free-agent OT Ryan Harris (Texans) performed during his workout earlier this week and could consider signing him over the next few weeks.

Dolphins | Will not sign Samson Satele now    Wed Jul 2, 01:50 PM

Dolphins | Daryn Colledge could compete for starting job    Wed Jul 2, 01:43 PM

Dolphins | Daryn Colledge signs    Tue Jul 1, 08:12 AM

The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent OG Daryn Colledge (Cardinals) to a one-year deal.

Footballguys view: Losing center Mike Pouncey for several games to start the regular season is going to hurt. Adding Colledge gives the team valuable veteran depth on the interior of the offensive line. Colledge, at age 32, is not the same player he used to be. However, he has experience playing all five positions on the offensive line and this is a good move for the Dolphins given their current state of affairs.

Dolphins | Reshad Jones praised by head coach    Mon Jun 30, 03:03 PM

Miami Dolphins SS Reshad Jones is 'very, very noticeable on tape,' specifically his play speed improvement, according to head coach Joe Philbin. Philbin added that Jones is practicing harder and more consistently. Jones said he's been taking practice more seriously and being more prepared.

Dolphins | Tyler Larsen has chance to make team    Mon Jun 30, 02:31 PM

Dolphins | Anthony Johnson has chance to make team    Fri Jun 27, 11:38 PM

Miami Dolphins DT Anthony Johnson has a good chance of beating out DTs A.J. Francis and Isaako Aaitui for the No. 4 defensive tackle spot on the final roster.

Footballguys view: Johnson was undrafted out of LSU this year, but he has the ability to be a good pro. He's a smart player who can diagnose plays quickly while engaged with his blocker. Johnson gets off the snap quickly and is a sound wrap-up tackler.

Dolphins | Jared Odrick to split snaps    Fri Jun 27, 07:47 PM

Miami Dolphins DT Jared Odrick is expected to split snaps with DTs Earl Mitchell and Randy Starks this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are going to have an up-tempo offense this year, and that could put pressure on opponents to keep up. Rotating these defensive linemen will put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks.

Dolphins | Derrick Shelby quicker heading into training camp    Thu Jun 26, 03:07 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Derrick Shelby has a quicker first step and improved conditioning after training with DE Cameron Wake during the offseason. Shelby is contending for a position in the Dolphins' speed package with Wake, DE Olivier Vernon and DE Dion Jordan.

Footballguys view: Shelby rotates in behind Wake, so studying from the guy you sub for is a good idea. We don't see him getting a ton of work, but if something happens to Wake, he should be good enough to fill in and not let the front-seven down.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry gets praise    Thu Jun 26, 03:02 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry was praised by SS Reshad Jones. Jones said Landry is the most impressive newcomer he has seen during the team's offseason program.

Footballguys view: Landry still has a ways to go before he can lock the No. 3 receiver spot down in Miami, an he'll have to outperform Brandon Gibson, Armon Binns and Rishard Matthews. That's not a murderer's row or anything, but they all know the offense and have a lot of experience while we know rookie wide receivers often struggle. As it stands right now, Landry is nothing more than a late round flier.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry open to any role    Wed Jun 25, 05:27 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry is open to any role the team has for him. "Whatever role the coaches desire me to play, that's what I'm going to do. I'll embrace it.'

Footballguys view: Landry may start as a role player with Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline locked in as starters, but that role should include a big part of slot receiver duties because 2013 signing Brandon Gibson is coming back from a serious knee injury and his replacement, Rishard Matthews, is falling out of favor with the coaching staff. It is also important to point out that out of all of those wide receivers were brought in by Jeff Ireland, and Landry was drafted by new general manager Dennis Hickey.

Dolphins | Andre Gurode reaches out    Wed Jun 25, 02:52 PM

Free-agent C Andre Gurode (Raiders) reached out to the Miami Dolphins after the team updated the status of C Mike Pouncey (Hip). The team returned the call Tuesday, June 24, and will not bring him in for a visit, but did not close the door on bringing him in at some point.

Footballguys view: Pouncey was going to be the one returning starter on the Dolphins offensive line, but now that is in jeopardy for opening weekend. The offense might really struggle out of the gate as their anchor in the pivot is working to get back to full health.

Dolphins | Plenty of options at center    Tue Jun 24, 08:38 PM

Miami Dolphins OG Nate Garner, OG Shelley Smith, OG Sam Brenner and C Tyler Larsen are all potential options to replace injured C Mike Pouncey (hip). Of the group, Garner has been with the team the longest, and he started two games at center last season.

Footballguys view: They have plenty of options, but none are as talented as Pouncey. The team revamped the entire offensive line this offseason in an effort to protect QB Ryan Tannehill better. Without Pouncey in the lineup, the Dolphins will have five new starters on the offensive line.

Link to story

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey likely to be placed on PUP list    Tue Jun 24, 03:06 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is likely to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list after suffering a torn labrum.

Footballguys view: The PUP list for the regular season means Pouncey would be forced to miss the first six games. After that time, the Dolphins would have three weeks to re-evaluate him and decide whether or not to activate him or put him on season-ending Inured Reserve.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace highest paid non-QB in 2014    Tue Jun 24, 12:10 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has the highest base salary of any non-quarterback in 2014, earning $15.0 million. He will count $17.25 million against the Dolphins' salary cap and would cost the team $26.8 million in dead money should they choose to release him during the fiscal year.

Footballguys view: His salary cap number rocketed to $17 million from $3 million last year. The team certainly didn't hesitate to add him in free agency last offseason, but the price tag was high. They're unlikely to release him, but he has to have an outstanding season or the team could decide to move on in 2015.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno will undergo knee surgery    Mon Jun 23, 05:33 PM

Miami Dolphins RB knowshon Moreno (knee) will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week, according to sources. Moreno is expected to miss four to five weeks.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins were the only team to reach out to Moreno this offseason. He was coming off a 1,500 all-purpose yardage season, so teams must have felt Moreno was too much of an injury risk. The Peyton Manning effect on his stats also had to play a role. Miami was hoping that Moreno could push Lamar Miller for the starting job. Now they may be looking at adding another veteran running back in free agency.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey undergoes hip surgery    Mon Jun 23, 04:55 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) underwent hip surgery Monday, June 23, and he is expected to miss at least three months, according to sources.

Footballguys view: A crushing blow to the Dolphins offensive line here. Without Pouncey, the team will have five new starters up front in 2014. We'll see Sam Brenner take over while Pouncey is out, but don't be surprised if the Dolphins explore the veteran free agent market at the position.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno could be ready for regular season    Mon Jun 23, 02:13 AM

Updating previous items, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) has a knee injury that might require arthroscopic surgery, but there is a chance he would be ready for the regular season if he has that surgery immediately.

Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. When Moreno was added by the team in free agency, there were some believing he would be the starter for the Dolphins this year. Now, Moreno looks like a backup plan who may not play as much as originally thought. We'll see if he goes under the knife in the near future or not. Either way, he's unlikely to see a sizable workload unless there's a couple of injuries in front of him on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno will probably play    Fri Jun 20, 02:29 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) will probably play this season, the question is how long. Moreno is suffering from a 'bad' knee, according to a source.

Footballguys view: More bad news for Moreno here. The Broncos used him up last year, as Moreno had the most productive season of his pro career. However, just like in year's past--he can't stay healthy. If Moreno gets on the field this year for the Dolphins it's likely to only be as a part-time player. This is a boost for the fantasy stock of Lamar Miller.

Dolphins | More on Knowshon Moreno    Fri Jun 20, 10:09 AM

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) said his knee felt better Thursday, June 19, but will see a doctor next week to determine if surgery is necessary.

Footballguys view: Moreno could have a degenerative condition in his knee. He's had knee problems almost every year he's been in the league since the Broncos selected him in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft. Unless there's a miraculous recovery, Moreno is not draftable in fantasy leagues in this condition.
