Dolphins | Backup nickel job up for grabs    Thu Jun 23, 01:24 AM

Miami Dolphins CB Jordan Lucas said Wednesday, June 22, that he worked both on the boundary and in the slot over the past month. He is battling CBs Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Tyler Patmon for the backup nickel job behind projected starter CB Bobby McCain.

Dolphins | Jakeem Grant works in return game    Thu Jun 23, 01:24 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant never returned a punt at Texas Tech, but he has been returning them in offseason practices, and said Wednesday, June 22, that he is quickly getting the hang of it.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo to shed weight    Thu Jun 23, 01:18 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo made a favorable impressive on the coaching staff during the team's offseason program. He said Wednesday, June 22, that his first priority is losing weight. 'I'm 217 now, trying to get down to 210,' Carroo said. 'You become faster when you shed some pounds. I don't have any bad weight on me. That's what I was at the combine. Why not be as fast and explosive as I can be?'

Footballguys view: Carroo is a rugged receiver with speed who could push Kenny Stills for playing time by the end of the season. DeVante Parker has had a history of foot issues, so Carroo could also see more playing time if Parker struggles to stay healthy. Keep him on your rookie redraft waiver wire watch list.

Dolphins | Adam Gase pushing Ryan Tannehill    Wed Jun 22, 10:18 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has a new head coach in Adam Gase, and the man in charge is trying to extract more from his signal caller. Gase's approach - besides extremely detailed teaching - also includes pushing Tannehill to his limits but also giving him more freedom than he has ever had. 'I put a lot on (Tannehill's) plate. It's almost to the point where it's probably too much this fast. I want to see where the breaking point is. He's been doing a good job of responding,' Gase said last week.

Footballguys view: Tannehill has a chance to take another step with a head coach that got great football out of Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler at much later junctures in their careers. Clyde Christensen is the offensive coordinator and also a quarterback-centric coach. The Dolphins don't have much proven in the running game, but they have a good array of targets and Tannehill. He is going outside of the top 15, and sometimes outside of the top 20, making Tannehill part of the deepest fantasy quarterback class we have ever seen.

Dolphins | Ifo Ekpre-Olomu feeling great    Sat Jun 18, 11:58 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (knee) said he is feeling great but couldn't put a percentage on his health at this point.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill's accuracy needs work    Sat Jun 18, 08:25 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill had had some issues with ball placement and wasn't on the same page as his receivers at times during OTAs, head coach Adam Gase said.

Footballguys view: That's going to take some time, but the Dolphins have the time upcoming in training camp. We're excited about the Miami passing game under Gase, so we'll be monitoring Tannehill's progress closely.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi could catch more passes    Sat Jun 18, 03:08 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he's been working on new routes, acknowledging that head coach Adam Gase's offensive system implements the running backs more in the passing game. Ajayi said he didn't have as many routes last year as he does this year.

Footballguys view: Ajayi came out of Boise State and was known as a fine all-purpose back. His last year in college (2014), Ajayi caught 50 passes for 535 yards and four TDs. He should be used more as a receiver...and likely as the team's primary ball-carrier in 2016. We'll see how rookie Kenyan Drake mixes in as a change-of-pace back. Ajayi should be considered a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB24 (5.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi to work on pass catching    Fri Jun 17, 05:38 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he will work on improving his route running and his pass catching skills during the next month.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have been looking for an upgrade at the RB position most of the offseason. They added Kenyan Drake in the 2016 NFL draft, but he may only be a change-of-pace back behind Ajayi. Coming out of Boise State, Ajayi was seen as an all-purpose back so improving his ability as a receiver shouldn't be that difficult. We see him as a low-end RB2 or RB3 for fantasy owners this year.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake will be ready for camp    Thu Jun 16, 05:21 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) will still be ready for training camp after being injured in practice Wednesday, June 16.

Footballguys view: Drake has the raw ability to be a starter but he needs to learn the finer points of technique if he's going to ever get that job. He also goes down a bit too easily. Right now he's on kickoff and punt returns, and though he might see some work as a receiver, we are not expecting to have an impact in fantasy leagues this year barring injuries ahead of him.

Miami Dolphins DT Charles Tuaau was waived Thursday, June 16.

Dolphins | Logan Thomas waived    Thu Jun 16, 04:31 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Logan Thomas was waived Thursday, June 16.

Footballguys view: The first of a few quarterback cuts here, as there was no way the team was carrying five quarterbacks. We don't think they'll carry four either, so Matt Moore, Zac Dysert and rookie Brandon Doughty are all on notice.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake injured Wednesday    Wed Jun 15, 12:22 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) injured his right hamstring during a special teams drill Wednesday, June 15, and is walking with a limp.

Footballguys view: The Alabama rookie could push for the second spot behind Jay Ajayi, but not if he isn't practicing. He was slated for special teams and return work, which is why he was out there. Like many rookies, he may not quite be as well conditioned as he could be after all the draft prep.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker returns    Wed Jun 15, 10:51 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) returned to practice Wednesday, June 15.

Footballguys view: Parker could be poised for a breakout season as he moves to the X-spot in the offense, a place that is highly productive in Adam Gase's world. We're currently seeing his ADP at 57 (WR27) overall, and think that could climb. He's tracking as a WR3 and has the upside for more in this system.

Dolphins | Reshad Jones reporting to camp    Wed Jun 15, 08:26 AM

Miami Dolphins SS Reshad Jones will report to mandatory minicamp Wednesday, June 15.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker to return Wednesday    Tue Jun 14, 03:16 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) will return to practice Wednesday, June 15, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Parker can have a huge season for the Dolphins this year as he'll play the "X" receiver in Gase's offense. That's a role where guys like Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) and Alshon Jeffery (Bears) have put up fantastic numbers under Gase. Parker has a current ADP of WR31 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, and that's a position he could easily outperform in 2016.

Dolphins | Reshad Jones likely to skip camp    Mon Jun 13, 11:50 AM

Miami Dolphins SS Reshad Jones' holdout is expected to continue through mandatory minicamp, and he's subject to fines.

Footballguys view: Jones wants a raise, but he's on the books for two more years with about $14 million in earnings combined. Reports indicate he's looking for a contract that pays him near $10 million annually. Things could get ugly here, and free-agent safeties Louis Delmas (Dolphins) and Antrel Rolle (Bears) will be considered if Jones continues to hold out.

Dolphins | Miami to consider two safeties    Sun Jun 12, 01:54 PM

Free-agent FSs Louis Delmas (Dolphins) and Antrel Rolle (Bears) will be considered by the Miami Dolphins if SS Reshad Jones continues to hold out, or if there is an injury at the position.

Footballguys view: Jones isn't set to be a free agent until 2018, and he's got a cap number of $7.2 million this season. Reports indicate Jones is seeking a new deal that would pay him around $10 million a year. Good luck with that. Delmas and Rolle haven't received a ton of interest on the open market, but either one would work. The Dolphins chose not to re-sign Delmas this offseason as he tore his ACL last August and missed the entire 2015 season.

Dolphins | Big season on tap for Jarvis Landry?    Sat Jun 11, 08:38 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will take his game to 'another level' this season, according to head coach Adam Gase, who plans to put Landry in a position to make more big plays.

Footballguys view: We can't wait to see this Dolphins passing game in 2016. Landry should catch over 100 passes again (111 last year), but his TDs and yardage could increase in the high-powered Gase system. He could outperform his current ADP of WR15 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry working on footwork    Fri Jun 10, 09:12 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry has been working out with Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. in order to develop the footwork and feel to play outside receiver.

Footballguys view: Landry and Beckham were teammates in college at LSU, so they've been around each other quite a bit. We're super excited about the Dolphins offense with new head coach Adam Gase running the show. Landry is a high-end WR2 with the upside to finish the season as a WR1 for fantasy owners...especially those in PPR leagues. His current ADP is WR15 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill stepping up    Thu Jun 9, 09:35 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is stepping up as a leader and pushing the team more this season, C Mike Pouncey said.

Footballguys view: We're excited about the Dolphins passing game with head coach Adam Gase running the show. Tannehill could put up career-best numbers in 2016 and fantasy owners need to take note. He could easily outperform his current ADP of QB21 (13.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Damien Williams hasn't had chance    Wed Jun 8, 02:27 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Damien Williams (undisclosed) has been sidelined during minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. Williams appears to be behind RB Kenyan Drake in the race for the backup job behind RB Jay Ajayi. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said he has been unable to judge Williams due to his injury.

Footballguys view: Williams needs to get healthy--and quick--if he wants to make the 53-man roster. The team may also add more RB talent via free agency before training camp starts, thus further cramping the depth chart.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake continues to shine    Wed Jun 8, 02:26 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake has impressive during spring drills. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said Drake 'has been excellent,' and Drake said he is more prepared for the NFL after learning different formations and other intricacies from Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. Drake remains the frontrunner to serve as the backup to RB Jay Ajayi.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised that Drake is impressing this offseason. He impressed on film at Alabama as a backup behind Derrick Henry, and he impressed earlier this year during the week of practice for the Reese's Senior Bowl. Drake is a speedy back who isn't afraid to run inside. He can rip off big runs with ease, and has the big-play ability fantasy owners will love. However, he may not be built to be more than a change-of-pace back at the pro level.

Dolphins | Miami not pursuing Arian Foster    Wed Jun 8, 02:25 AM

The Miami Dolphins aren't pursuing free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans), who visited the team earlier this spring. The team will consider him if they have an injury or if their young running backs struggle. Foster is still working his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered Oct. 25 with the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Foster could probably pass a physical right now, and there are a small handful of teams (including the Dolphins) that have already reached out to the veteran back. The Dolphins may not add Foster right now, but he's always an option for them so long as he's out there. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Dan Herron not offered deal    Wed Jun 8, 02:24 AM

Free-agent RB Dan Herron (Colts) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins Monday, June 6, without a contract offer. However, he remains on the radar should the team determine it needs help at the position.

Footballguys view: Herron is on their list if they want to add more RB depth. Even if he's added, we can't see him being a fantasy-relevant player.

Dolphins | Jamil Douglas improves versatility    Wed Jun 8, 02:24 AM

Miami Dolphins OG Jamil Douglas is working to master backup center duties in addition to working out at right guard. He has brushed up at center by snapping the ball at least 25 times a day throughout the offseason.

Dolphins | Wes Welker at Miami's OTAs    Mon Jun 6, 06:53 PM

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) attended the Miami Dolphins' organized team activities Monday, June 6, but head coach Adam Gase said the team is not looking to sign Welker.

Footballguys view: Welker is likely done playing in the NFL. His playing career was shortened by concussion problems he had with the Broncos. During his time in Denver, Welker worked well in the Gase system. Gase said Welker is familiar with his offense and could help the receivers on the roster.

Dolphins | Dan Herron works out with Miami    Mon Jun 6, 06:45 PM

Free-agent RB Dan Herron (Colts) worked out with the Miami Dolphins Monday, June 6.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have spent most of this offseason trying to find more help at the RB position. If signed, Herron would only be for depth as he would be unlikely to challenge Jay Ajayi or rookie Kenyan Drake for the starting job.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi wants to be more consistent    Mon Jun 6, 01:44 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he has been working on being more consistent as a runner this offseason by trying to be more patient and elusive with the ball. The Dolphins are expected to spread defenses out in 2016 in hopes of finding more openings for Ajayi and the other running backs.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins offense gets us excited for the 2016 season with head coach Adam Gase calling the shots...or should we say the passing game looks to be an intriguing field for fantasy owners. The rushing attack is a huge question mark at this time. Ajayi will split time with rookie Kenyan Drake in a RBBC, and the Dolphins may be the team who adds RB Arian Foster later this year. We'll feel better about his prospects once we get into the preseason and see exactly how this RB situation is shaping up.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker limited again    Mon Jun 6, 11:11 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) is not practicing for the second consecutive week and continues to do rehab work. Head coach Adam Gase said it's precautionary.

Footballguys view: That's a good move for the Dolphins. Parker can be a stud fantasy WR under Gase. His ball-tracking ability and concentration could make him a great deep target for the Dolphins in 2016. He could easily outperform his ADP of WR31 (6.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills fits the offense    Sun Jun 5, 09:21 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills fits the team's offensive philosophy, according to head coach Adam Gase. 'He has position flexibility, which we love as an offensive staff,' Gase said. 'Being able to play inside and outside, the speed he has, the ball skills he has, we want to keep developing him and giving him as many opportunities.'

Footballguys view: Stills may be able to line up on the outside or even as a "speed slot" for Gase in Miami. With so much talent above him on the depth chart, we're not predicting a big breakout season for Stills...but we love the Dolphins offense. Guys like WRs Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker and TE Jordan Cameron could all post career-best numbers with Gase running the show.

Dolphins | Not interested in free agents    Sun Jun 5, 02:46 PM

Free-agent CBs Leon Hall (Bengals) and Antonio Cromartie (Jets) are not being pursued by the Miami Dolphins at this time. They are both on the back burner, however, if Miami should suffer injuries or be disappointed with their young players at the position.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins want to see how Byron Maxwell and Xavien Howard do before adding veterans like Hall or Cromartie. Maxwell comes over to Miami after a horrible season with the Eagles. Howard was the team's second-round pick out of Baylor. If either struggles to impress, then perhaps we'll see the team consider other options.

Dolphins | Jordan Cameron excited about new coach    Sat Jun 4, 08:16 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron said he is excited to play for head coach Adam Gase because he has had success with tight ends in the past.

Footballguys view: We are super excited about the Dolphins offense under the guiding hand of Gase. He has a high-powered offense that has put up great fantasy numbers for both the Broncos and the Bears. With Gase calling the shots, we expect better numbers from Cameron--so long as he can stay healthy. Cameron is built a lot like Julius Thomas...and it was Thomas who became a top-5 fantasy TE under Gase with the Broncos in 2013. Like Thomas, Cameron is a former basketball star who transitioned to play one year of college football. While Thomas has shined (when healthy), we have yet to see Cameron truly play up to his enormous potential. He could easily outperform his current ADP of TE18 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Miami not looking at Knowshon Moreno    Fri Jun 3, 07:02 PM

Free-agent RB Knowshon Moreno (Dolphins) has said he would like to sign with the Miami Dolphins, but the Dolphins do not have interest in him.

Footballguys view: Moreno is trying to make a comeback, but there shouldn't be many (if any) teams interested in the veteran back. His knee problems bothered him during his entire pro career, and the all-purpose back may find that his time in the NFL has come to a close.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry could still be returner    Fri Jun 3, 06:54 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will continue to be the team's kick returner if he is the best option for the job, according to special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

Footballguys view: Landry can do both, even if he's a top receiver for the team. Keep this in mind if you play in fantasy leagues that reward points for return touchdowns and perhaps even return yards.

Dolphins | Cameron Wake struggles in return    Thu Jun 2, 10:11 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') was thrown around during defensive line drills at OTAs Wednesday, June 1.

Footballguys view: Nobody should be surprised by this. Wake has time to get his legs back under him and get ready for the start of the regular season. He'll be a part-time pass-rusher for the Dolphins this year.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills developing chemistry with QB     Thu Jun 2, 02:09 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills said he has been working all offseason with QB Ryan Tannehill to improve their chemistry, and Stills believes there is no limit to what the Miami receiving corps can accomplish in 2016.

Footballguys view: Stills is quite possibly going to be left in the cold this season if DeVante Parker blows up the way we expect and Jarvis Landry keeps doing what he does so well. Stills has some upside but for now we wouldn't waste roster space.

Dolphins | Cameron Wake taking part in practice    Wed Jun 1, 11:37 AM

Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') is participating in organized team activities Wednesday, June 1.

Footballguys view: Wake's recovery has been ahead of schedule according to all reports this offseason. The team believes he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. We should see Wake work as a part-time player for the Dolphins defense this year.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry can improve    Tue May 31, 11:28 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry averaged just 10.5 yards per catch last year, which was ranked 105th in the league out of qualifying receivers. Only 10 of his 110 catches (9%) went for 20 yards or more in 2015. New head coach Adam Gase will try to put Landry in a position to make more big plays this year. Landry also had just four receiving touchdowns last year despite being targeted 165 times in the red zone, which was sixth most in the league. Miami plans to keep Landry fresh by reducing his role on special teams as well. He returned 49 kickoffs and punts in 2015.

Footballguys view: Landry has the ability to do more as a downfield receiver, and we're confident the Dolphins passing game will look much better with Gase running the show. Last year, Landry ranked 94th in air yards per target with a paltry average of 7.15 yards. Gase should feature Landry on more downfield targets this season.

Dolphins | Miami prepared to welcome Dion Jordan back    Mon May 30, 10:12 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins LB Dion Jordan will apply for reinstatement to the National Football League Wednesday, June 1, and the team has reportedly indicated they're prepared to welcome Jordan back if he's reinstated.

Footballguys view: Getting Jordan back--a motivated (and clean) Jordan--could be a huge boost for the Dolphins defense. He's got great physical potential, but Jordan has yet to fully play up to that potential as a pro. Jordan has been tested twice a week and he has not failed or missed a drug test since he was suspended in April 2015.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills struggled catching passes    Sun May 29, 04:21 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills caught only 48.2% of the passes thrown to him by QB Ryan Tannehill in 2015 but many of his targets were deep passes. Head coach Adam Gase has been impressed with Stills during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Tannehill was in the middle of the league with 8.26 air-yards-per-target in 2015. That number is likely to go down just a bit with Gase running the offense. The Dolphins may not air it out as much with deep passes, but we're expecting them to have a much more efficient and dangerous passing game. Stills will compete for targets behind Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker.

Dolphins | Jakeem Grant impressing teammates    Sat May 28, 10:51 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant has impressed teammates with his speed and agility and has been given the nickname 'Mighty Mouse.' He is the frontrunner to return kicks and punts, and head coach Adam Gase says he plans to incorporate him into the offense.

Footballguys view: There's a new Trindon Holliday in the NFL, and Grant's the guy. Measuring in at a tiny 5'6" 165 pounds, Grant has incredible speed and can make defenders miss with blurring quickness in the open field. He'll be exciting to watch, but Grant is unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake looking good    Fri May 27, 06:55 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake has looked smooth running routes and catching passes during organized team activities this week.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have been trying to upgrade the RB position all offseason. The rookie from Alabama should help, but we don't think he's a full-time back. Drake is fast in a straight line, and he's willing to run between the tackles. However, he's not a pile-pusher and may have trouble staying durable in the NFL.

Miami Dolphins SS Reshad Jones is not at organized team activities this week because of his unhappiness with his contract.   Dolphins | DeVante Parker healthy    Fri May 27, 02:10 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) missed much of last summer after having surgery to put a screw in his foot. But Parker said he's fully healthy now and expects to take a big step forward in his sophomore season. He's been asked by the new coaching staff to learn every receiving position on the field, including the slot. 'I expect big things out of him. I'm expecting him to be a heck of a football player, a guy that other teams fear, because he can make big plays down the field, inside,' QB Ryan Tannehill said. 'He's a big-bodied guy. He's a guy we're going to want to use in the red zone, on third downs and to stretch the field as well.' Parker amassed 286 receiving yards in the final three games of 2015.

Footballguys view: Parker is a young, stud receiver with great upside in the Adam Gase offense. We're excited by what the Dolphins could do this year with a coach who knows how to craft a high-powered offense. Parker has a current ADP of WR31 (6.12) in 12-team PPR leagues, and he could easily outperform that position in 2016.

Dolphins | More freedom for Ryan Tannehill    Thu May 26, 07:28 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said the Dolphins will mix things up in new head coach Adam Gase's offense. Tannehill said there's more variability and versatility under Gase than there was with former offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. Tannehill will also be adjusting more on the fly, whether that's with routes, protection or even just the play in general.

Footballguys view: Gase is going to find out real quick how much he can depend on his quarterback. Tannehill has made some strides but can still be erratic. Gase's offense is exciting, and could produce some good points if Tannehill is up to the task. We see him as a solid QB2 but he has some upside in this scheme.
