Dolphins | No vote of confidence for Dion Jordan    Fri Apr 24, 05:27 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan did not receive a vote of confidence from any of the front office people during their pre-draft press conference Friday, April 24. Jordan did not participate in voluntary workouts earlier in the week.

Footballguys view: Jordan has yet to fulfill the promise which had the Miami Dolphins trade up for him. In his defense, he hasn't always been used all that well, but injuries are also an issue. We'll see if he stays with the Dolphins in even a minor role.

Dolphins | MIA unsure on Ryan Tannehill extension    Fri Apr 24, 05:15 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is a player the team has not decided on if they will sign to a contract extension at this point, according to executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum.

Footballguys view: Tannehill has progressed but not at a tremendous rate. It makes sense the Dolphins aren't 100 percent sure on him yet. It may come down to risking him having a huge season to find out if he is worth the extension.

Dolphins | Miami wants Breshad Perriman, more picks    Thu Apr 23, 11:06 PM

Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman is an option for the Miami Dolphins, who are hoping to trade down in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft to land a receiver and recoup some draft assets, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Perriman would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins, even though they added veteran Greg Jennings earlier this week. We love Perriman's size/speed combination. For a big receiver, he can get off the line of scrimmage quickly and cleanly. He is likely to be a late first-round pick.

Dolphins | Mike Johnson visits Miami    Thu Apr 23, 08:48 AM

Free-agent OG Mike P. Johnson (Falcons) visited the Miami Dolphins this week.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick by the Falcons in 2010, Johnson's pro career has been derailed by injuries. Leg and foot problems have kept him out of action for the better part of two years. If healthy, he'd give the Dolphins some competition inside at guard.

Dolphins | Breshad Perriman visits    Thu Apr 23, 02:54 AM

UCF WR Breshad Perriman visited the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Even though Greg Jennings signed with the Dolphins on Wednesday, they could still be looking at a wide receiver with a premium pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Perriman plays with a great blend of size and speed. He eats cushion quickly and can take the top off the defense. He's raw as a route-runner, but Perriman is talented enough of a prospect to be a first-round pick.

Dolphins | Wes Welker even less likely for MIA    Wed Apr 22, 08:58 PM

Free agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is considered even less likely to sign with the Miami Dolphins, after Miami reportedly signed WR Greg Jennings to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Welker just isn't getting much interest on the open market. We could see him wait until after training camp injuries hit before he finds a new team. Welker isn't the player he used to be and concussion problems plagued him during his two-year stint with the Broncos.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings signs with Miami    Wed Apr 22, 06:10 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Jennings should get the second-most amount of snaps after Kenny Stills outside, assuming Jarvis Landry remains primarily a slot receiver. It's not a bad destination considering how much harder it will be for a wide receiver to get work after the draft.

Free-agent OG Jacques McClendon (Jaguars) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 22.

Dolphins | Miami considering DeVante Parker?    Sat Apr 18, 10:57 PM

Louisville WR DeVante Parker is an option for the Miami Dolphins with No. 14 pick in the first-round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for more competition at the wide receiver position ever since they shipped Mike Wallace to the Vikings. Parker is a downfield threat who does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. He could come in and compete as a starter with Kenny Stills for the job opposite Jarvis Landry.

Dolphins | Miami to meet with Devin Smith    Fri Apr 17, 03:10 PM

Ohio State WR Devin X. Smith is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins before the 2015 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Smith's game is about speed, speed and more speed. His skill set is reminiscent of DeSean Jackson (Washington) because Smith can take the top off the defense with ease. He tracks the ball well over his shoulder and is a big-play threat.

Dolphins | Will meet with Byron Jones    Fri Apr 17, 03:05 PM

Connecticut CB Byron Jones is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jones will have to pass a medical check after shoulder surgery knocked him out of four games during the last part of the 2014 season. He's got a good size/speed combination, and Jones does a good job of diagnosing plays that stay in front of him. He should be a first- or second-round pick in the draft.

Dolphins | Reggie Wayne not a target for MIA    Wed Apr 15, 12:55 PM

Free-agent WR Reggie Wayne (Colts) has not received interest from the Miami Dolphins at this point.

Footballguys view: We would be shocked if Wayne latched on with a team in the near future. He's not the same player he used to be, and this is an incredibly deep group of wide receivers coming into the league via the draft this year. Wayne's playing days might be done.

Dolphins | MIA looking into Todd Gurley    Wed Apr 15, 12:51 PM

Georgia RB Todd Gurley (knee) is a draft prospect that the Miami Dolphins have studied closely leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Good--they should be interested in Gurley. His knee injury from last year could force him to miss the first six weeks of the regular season on the PUP list. The Dolphins would be able to take that risk as they have Lamar Miller as their starter. Miller's in a contract year, and there's no guarantee he'll come back for 2016. Gurley is essentially a modern version of Marshawn Lynch, and he can eventually be a superstar in the pros.

Dolphins | Benardrick McKinney visiting    Wed Apr 15, 12:50 PM

Mississippi State LB Benardrick McKinney is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: McKinney is a versatile linebacker who rushed off the edges in college in addition to cleaning up as a run-defender in the middle. He's an incredible athlete who can play from sideline-to-sideline. Even with his athleticism, coverage is a concern for McKinney. He can take false steps and bite on play-fakes, then he struggles to recover and get in the right spot. We should see him come off the board in the second round.

Dolphins | Melvin Gordon to visit Miami    Tue Apr 14, 01:12 PM

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon will visit with the Miami Dolphins April 22. He has already met with the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals have worked him out.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for help at the running back position behind Lamar Miller. Gordon is more of a starter than he is a backup. He has the talent to be a premiere starter in the league.

Dolphins | Miami wants to lock up Ryan Tannehill    Mon Apr 13, 10:41 PM

The Miami Dolphins are committed to getting a contract extension done with QB Ryan Tannehill before the start of the regular season. However, there have been no formal discussions between Tannehill's representatives and the Dolphins since the NFL Scouting Combine. If a new deal cannot be reached, the team can still exercise his fifth-year option to keep him under control through the 2016 season. He would be paid roughly $16 million for 2016 under that scenario.

Footballguys view: The deadline for picking up fifth-year options is May 3rd. The Dolphins would be wise to find a way to get something done with their franchise quarterback. He's made improvements every year he's been in the league, and Tannehill should have better weapons around him in 2015. Tannehill had the best completion percentage last year of any quarterback under duress, and we love his upside as he continues to grow as a passer.

Dolphins | Zack Bowman signs    Mon Apr 13, 02:19 PM

Free-agent CB Zack Bowman (Giants) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Monday, April 13.

Footballguys view: Bowman gives the team veteran depth at the position. They are looking for upgrades in the secondary, and the Dolphins may add a corner in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft.

Dolphins | Michael Crabtree an option for MIA    Mon Apr 13, 01:20 PM

Free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers) is receiving interest from the Miami Dolphins, according to a source. The Dolphins are one of three teams showing the most interest in Crabtree.

Footballguys view: Crabtree has been getting limited interest on the open market. Miami moved Mike Wallace earlier this offseason, so they are in need of help at the wide receiver position. If added, Crabtree would be competing for playing time behind Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills.

Dolphins | Zack Bowman visiting Miami    Mon Apr 13, 09:56 AM

Free-agent CB Zack Bowman (Giants) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Monday, April 13.

Footballguys view: It's no secret that the Dolphins are looking for upgrades at both cornerback spots. Bowman would give them veteran depth at the position if added, but we expect the team to also add a corner through the NFL draft...perhaps with a first-round pick.

Dolphins | Gerod Holliman visits    Mon Apr 13, 07:11 AM

Louisville FS Gerod Holliman visited the Miami Dolphins facilties in the past few days.

Footballguys view: Holliman was a one-year starter at free safety for Louisville. He can make big plays, but too often he plays with a lack of discipline. His tackling ability is mostly laughable, and that's going to keep his draft stock low. Holliman is likely a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Dolphins | Will meet with three top CB prospects    Sat Apr 11, 12:58 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes, Louisiana State CB Jalen Collins and Wake Forest CB Kevin Johnson are scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2015 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins need to find a cornerback in the draft who's an upgrade over Jamar Taylor or Will Davis for the starting job opposite Brent Grimes.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey agrees to extension    Fri Apr 10, 09:32 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth more than $50 million, according to sources. It makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Pouncey has been banged up in recent years, but otherwise he's the one constant on an offensive line has been one of the most unstable in the NFL. They established a better running game and kept Ryan Tannehill upright more often last year, but keeping continuity for a long time at center is a good move by Hickey/Tannenbaum.

Dolphins | Might trade up for Kevin White    Wed Apr 8, 10:05 PM

The Miami Dolphins appear to be targeting West Virginia WR Kevin White in the 2015 NFL Draft, and they are reaching out to other clubs to gauge what it might cost to move into the Top 10 this year, according to sources.

Footballguys view: White is our second-ranked rookie receiver this year behind Amari Cooper (Alabama). He was a one-year wonder for the Mountaineers in 2014, racking up 109 catches, 1,447 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. At 6'3" 210 pounds, White can fly down the field and haul in deep passes. He has the strength to win at the point of the catch and wrestle away passes from smaller defenders. White can get off the line of scrimmage cleanly, and he'll blow the top off press coverage. The Dolphins need a deep target after moving Mike Wallace to the Vikings earlier this year.

Dolphins | Wes Welker leaves without deal    Wed Apr 8, 07:37 PM

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 8, without a deal.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are likely just exploring their options at this time. They did the same thing with Greg Jennings last week. We'll see if they make a move for either one in the near future.

Dolphins | Wes Welker visiting Miami    Wed Apr 8, 09:37 AM

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is visiting with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 8.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for a veteran wideout behind Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills. Welker played in Miami for two years to start his pro career (after the Chargers cut him loose). Concussions have slowed him down over the last year and a half, but he can still run a crisp route and get open underneath.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings leaves MIA without deal    Tue Apr 7, 09:16 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, April 7, without a contract. However, the door is reportedly open for a deal down the road.

Footballguys view: There's no rush to add Jennings at this time. The Dolphins might be the favorite to land the veteran receiver. They could use his experience behind young receivers Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills. Jennings also has years of experience working under Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin from their time together with the Packers.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings visiting Miami    Tue Apr 7, 01:30 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, April 7.

Footballguys view: Jennings to the Dolphins just seems like something that's going to happen eventually. He could reunite with former Packers OC (and current Dolphins head coach) Joe Philbin, and Jennings would give the team veteran depth as the WR3 behind Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings still an option for MIA    Mon Apr 6, 01:25 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) is still a player the Miami Dolphins are open to sign this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are likely to select a wide receiver at some point in the 2015 NFL draft. Jennings might be considered some sort of emergency plan at the position as he's a solid veteran talent.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker to meet with Miami    Sun Apr 5, 09:32 PM

Former University of Louisville WR DeVante Parker is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: We love Parker's skill set and upside. A favorite target of Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville, Parker has outstanding ball-tracking ability on deep passes. He has amazing body control too, and Parker can make circus catches seem routine. With an enormous catch radius, Parker can win at the point of the catch consistently. He should be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Dolphins | Breshad Perriman a good fit in Miami?    Sun Apr 5, 08:56 PM

Former University of Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman could be a good fit for the Miami Dolphins as a replacement deep threat for Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace, according to ESPN's Todd McShay.

Footballguys view: Perriman has a nice size/athleticism combination, measuring in at 6'3" 215 pounds. He can explode off the line of scrimmage, and he does a good job of also exploding in and out of his breaks. Perriman is a raw route-runner at this time, but the physical upside is certainly intriguing. He should be a late first- or early second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Dolphins | Stevan Ridley visit exploratory    Sun Apr 5, 06:14 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) took an exploratory visit to the Miami Dolphins. The club was checking out his medicals and has not ruled out signing Ridley.

Footballguys view: Ridley still isn't 100 percent healthy. His knee injury is supposed to be cleared by May. Teams may wait until then to sign the veteran back. With this incredible draft class at RB, he may need to wait longer than that.

Dolphins | Jordan Phillips to visit    Sun Apr 5, 10:54 AM

Oklahoma DT Jordan Phillips is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins before the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: At 6'5" 329 pounds, Phillips is one of the best defensive tackles in this year's draft class. We could see him being available in the late first or early second round. Phillips has the length and strength to be a dominant player in the middle. He can penetrate with a rip or swim move, and he's got a good closing burst to the quarterback.

Dolphins | Michael Crabtree too expensive for MIA    Sun Apr 5, 10:49 AM

Free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers) is looking for at least $4.5 million for next season, but the Miami Dolphins are only willing to offer around $3 million.

Footballguys view: We're not so sure that Crabtree is going to get that kind of cash on the open market. He'll have to adjust to the near absolute zero reception he's received in free agency.

Link to story

Dolphins | Durability concerns for Jordan Cameron?    Fri Apr 3, 10:00 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron has a per game bonus of $156,250 in his contract in 2015 and 2106, and $9.5 million of his $15 million contract will count against the cap in 2016.

Footballguys view: Of course durability is a concern for Cameron! He's never played a full 16-game season during his four-year pro career. Concussions are the major concern with the talented tight end.

Dolphins | Josh Freeman signs    Thu Apr 2, 06:26 PM

Free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) has signed a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Still only 27-years old, Freeman was terrible during the 2013 season with the Bucs and the Vikings. He was with the Giants briefly last year, but spent the 2014 season out of football. Matt Moore is the primary backup behind Ryan Tannehill, and signing Freeman won't change that. He's a big arm and could spend the season as the Dolphins QB3 in a best-case scenario.

Dolphins | Spencer Paysinger signed    Thu Apr 2, 03:53 PM

Free-agent LB Spencer Paysinger (Giants) signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, April 2, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Paysinger should take the special teams role Jason Trusnik just left. Overall his impact will be negligible unless there are injuries.

Dolphins | Sammie Coates visiting    Thu Apr 2, 03:32 PM

Auburn WR Sammie Coates is meeting with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, April 2.

Footballguys view: With Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews and Kenny Stills in the house, the Dolphins have some depth but it's either unproven or limited. Adding Coates would give them another weapon though another one who isn't exactly experienced either. Coates drops a lot of catchable balls, but he has an intriguing size/speed combination.

Dolphins | Meeting with Spencer Paysinger    Thu Apr 2, 03:32 PM

Dolphins | Thomas Mayo visiting    Thu Apr 2, 02:13 PM

Free-agent WR Thomas Mayo (Jets) is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, April 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With Mike Wallace gone, there is room on the roster for some depth behind Jarvis Landry and Rishard Matthews. Mayo probably won't amount to much though, and we are not excited about the fantasy prospects of this group beyond Matthews, Landry and tight end Jordan Cameron.

Dolphins | Two receivers to audition    Thu Apr 2, 02:44 AM

Miami (Fla.) WR Phillip Dorsett and Florida State WR Rashad Greene are among the receivers the Miami Dolphins will audition on a local pro day Friday, April 10.

Footballguys view: Dorsett is one of the fastest players in this draft. He can take the top off the defense and tracks the ball well over his shoulder. Greene is a quicker receiver, and we like the way he sets up defenders in his routes. He's explosive after the catch, and Greene is slippery in the open field. The Dolphins traded away Mike Wallace (Vikings), and they are looking for more help at the position.

Dolphins | Four defenders on radar screen    Thu Apr 2, 02:15 AM

Louisville CB Charles Gaines and Minnesota S Cedric Thompson are slated to visit the Miami Dolphins in the near future, per sources. Miami (Ohio) LB Denzel Perryman is slated for an audition, and Clemson LB Stephone Anthony will also work out.

Footballguys view: Gaines is a converted receiver who plays with good quickness and ball skills. Thompson didn't receive an invite to the combine, but he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the Gophers' pro day. Perryman is an instinctive linebacker (although a bit undersized) who arrives at the ball with natural violence. Anthony has good size and aggression, but he needs to play with better discipline if he's going to be a good pro.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller putting on weight    Wed Apr 1, 11:51 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller said Wednesday, April 1, that he is up to 225 pounds from his playing weight of 218 pounds last season.

Footballguys view: Miller is looking for a larger workload in a contract year. The added weight will be able to help him take more punishment. We'll see if the extra pounds take away some of his speed and explosiveness.

Dolphins | Miami not sold on Damien Williams    Wed Apr 1, 10:59 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Damien Williams may not be ready to serve as the team's No. 2 running back in the eyes of the team. The Dolphins could draft a running back in the 2015 NFL Draft if they don't sign a running back soon.

Footballguys view: This is a great draft class for running backs. Williams is likely to face competition for the backup role behind Lamar Miller in 2015.

Dolphins | Michael Thomas signs tender    Wed Apr 1, 09:25 AM

Miami Dolphins FS Michael Thomas signed his restricted free-agent tender, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Thomas played about half the season in 2014 before being put on Injured Reserve with a chest injury. He's going to compete for a reserve spot on the depth chart in 2015.

Dolphins | Stevan Ridley visiting Miami    Tue Mar 31, 08:56 AM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, March 31.

Dolphins | Derrick Shelby signs tender    Thu Mar 26, 11:46 AM

Miami Dolphins restricted free-agent DE Derrick Shelby signed his tender offer Wednesday, March 26. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
