Dolphins | Cameron Wake ahead of schedule Fri May 20, 09:42 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') has exceeded expectations in terms of where doctors thought he would be at in his recovery, executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said Friday, May 20.
|Footballguys view: Earlier this month, the Dolphins gave Wake a two-year, $15 million extension and that was a big sign of what they think of his recovery. He'll be a situational player for the Dolphins at this point of his career.|

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi pulling away from RBs Fri May 20, 03:51 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi has been performing well during workouts this offseason and has separated himself from the other running backs on the roster, according head coach Adam Gase. 'He's been one of those guys he's been here every day. He's done everything right. You can tell he's looking to improve. He doesn't say much, just keeps working,' Gase said. 'The rest of that group has done a good job to try and keep up with him, but obviously he's kind of separated himself from that group as far as the consistency of what he does day in and day out.'
|Footballguys view: Ajayi still has the risk of Arian Foster or another veteran back sharing work with him, and the team is likely to give third-round pick Kenyan Drake everything he can handle. He has upside if he can get the lion's share of touches, and unlike Matt Jones or Jeremy Langford, he hasn't shown limited upside when given a bigger opportunity.|

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey says he's 100% Fri May 20, 09:51 AM
Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) said he is 100% after surgery on his hip this offseason.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins offense hasn't clicked, and Pouncey has missed at least two games in each of the last three seasons. Hopefully this surgery can help him stay on the field and anchor the offensive line that will now include one of the best prospects in years, Ole Miss's Laremy Tunsil.|
Dolphins | No concern with Laremy Tunsil Thu May 19, 06:59 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle) is full-go for offseason activities despite a recent report that he has a pre-arthritic ankle condition. Executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said the Dolphins never had a concern about the rookie's ankle.
|Footballguys view: Miami can sigh in relief. Tunsil is going to be a big upgrade for this line if he can keep his off-field chaos under control. That's good for Jay Ajayi, Ryan Tannehill and Jarvis Landry.|
Dolphins | Xavien Howard signs Wed May 18, 05:43 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.Link to story
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil has ankle issue Wed May 18, 05:35 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle) has a pre-arthritic ankle condition that may have contributed to his draft-day fall, according to sources. Some believe the condition may even be worse than Jacksonville Jaguars LB Myles Jack's knee issue.
|Footballguys view: That's a tough note to hear, especially if you're a Miami Dolphin fan. We still haven't had firm confirmation of this, nor how it might impact his ability long and short term, but it sounds serious. We'll watch this as it develops.|
Dolphins | Ifo Ekpre-Olomu fully cleared Wed May 18, 03:06 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (knee) has received a full medical clearance Wednesday, May 18. Ekpre-Olumu hasn't played since 2014.Link to story
Dolphins | Miami to sign Jason Jones Fri May 13, 07:22 PM
Free-agent DE Jason Jones (Lions) will sign with the Miami Dolphins, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: New Dolphins DC Vance Joseph should use Jones as a rotational player at end behind Mario Williams and Cameron Wake. Jones could also be shifted inside to create interior pressure.|

Dolphins | Miami to use Kenyan Drake's versatility Thu May 12, 09:53 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake will be used in as many ways as possible as a rookie. 'You look at his career, he's done a little bit of everything,' special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi said. 'He's caught passes. He's run the ball well. He's had high yards per carry. He's caught the ball out of the backfield. He's covered kicks.'
|Footballguys view: We're not sold on most of the backfield, though Jay Ajayi is going to be the lead back. Don't be shocked if Drake gets a fair amount of snaps though, as Ajayi is just as unproven as the rookie.|

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill receives Manning tutelage Mon May 9, 09:17 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has received instruction from retired QB Peyton Manning this spring. 'It was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he's done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game,' Tannehill said. 'We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love.'
|Footballguys view: Watch out for Tannehill this year. New head coach Adam Gase has worked wonders with QBs like Manning (Broncos) and Jay Cutler (Bears) as an offensive coordinator. Gase got the best out of Manning in 2013 when the future Hall of Fame QB had 55 passing touchdowns and 5,477 passing yards. Tannehill won't post Star Wars numbers like that, but we think he's in for a career-best season in 2016 under Gase's tutelage.|

Dolphins | Jordan Lucas signed Sun May 8, 10:52 AM
The Miami Dolphins have signed CB Jordan Lucas to a four-year deal Sunday, May 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Lucas played cornerback with Penn State before switching to safety in 2015. He's a versatile player who can cover, hit and even rush the passer. Early on in his pro career, look for Lucas to make the roster as a special teams player.|
Dolphins | Cameron Wake signs extension Sat May 7, 07:53 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake signed a two-year, $15 million extension with $10 million guaranteed Saturday, May 7, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: This move was done to lower Wake's cap number for 2016. He was on the books for $8.4 million in 2016, and now he'll have a lower number. This move also shows the team believes that Wake's Achilles' injury is going to recover properly. At 34-years old, Wake is set to be a part-time pass-rusher over the next two seasons.|

Dolphins | Cameron Wake should be ready Sat May 7, 01:18 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') is expected to be ready to play by Week 1, according to defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
|Footballguys view: Achilles' injuries aren't quite as devastating as they used to be. However, at age 34 we should see Wake limited to a part-time role as a pass-rusher for the Dolphins defense. There's a chance the veteran could be ready sometime during training camp.|

Dolphins | Jakeem Grant inks deal in Miami Fri May 6, 10:41 PM
The Miami Dolphins signed WR Jakeem Grant to a four-year contract Friday, May 6. Financial terms were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: We have a new Trindon Holliday in the NFL, and his name is Jakeem Grant. He's incredibly short, measuring in at only 5'6" 165 pounds but the kid is lightning in a bottle. Grant has incredible straight-line speed which immediately makes him a dangerous option as a return man. The Dolphins may even get creative in sub-packages and get this guy on the field as a speedy slot.|
Dolphins | Brandon Doughty signs rookie contract Fri May 6, 11:36 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Brandon Doughty signed his rookie contract Friday, May 6.
|Footballguys view: Doughty doesn't have upside in the form of tools and he hasn't been great under pressure, but he shows ability to function well within an offense, displaying accuracy and good production. He can push Logan Thomas for the roster spot as the third quarterback.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil signs rookie pact Fri May 6, 11:23 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil signed his rookie contract Friday, May 6, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Tunsil was one of the best, if not the best offensive line prospect in the last five years. The Dolphins should be rewarded for trusting him in the chaos of the most surreal draft experience we've ever seen. Look him to start somewhere on the line, if not kick Branden Albert out of the left tackle position at some point this year.|
Dolphins | Jay Ajayi could see 15 touches Thu May 5, 12:30 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is expected to see 15 touches per game with the backup receiving 10 touches, in the opinion of Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.
|Footballguys view: Ajayi has to first be the starter for the team before we go spreading around touches. The Dolphins wanted to do anything they could to find an upgrade at the RB position this offseason. They signed C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet that was matched by the Broncos, and they kicked the tires of veteran free agents like Chris Johnson who ultimately signed elsewhere. In the draft, the Dolphins snared Kenyon Drake (Alabama) in the third round. His speed makes him a dangerous asset and potential starter in 2016. We'll see the two battle it out for the job in training camp.|

Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil won't enter drug program Mon May 2, 11:49 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil won't be placed in the league's substance abuse program, according to a source. The league will closely monitor and support Tunsil in the event intervention is needed.
|Footballguys view: Tunsil (like every player at the Combine) passed his drug tests. The video that surfaced before the draft was reportedly captured years ago. Tunsil is seen as a good kid in the scouting community, and this video may not indicate future problems for the talented tackle.|
Dolphins | Trio of UDFAs land in South Florida Mon May 2, 02:25 AM

Dolphins | Miami selects Leonte Carroo Fri Apr 29, 10:48 PM
The Miami Dolphins selected Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo with the No. 86 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29.
|Footballguys view: Carroo is very competitive but had some off-field concerns. He could be an aggressive addition to this offense though he needs to improve his route running.|
Dolphins | Kenyan Drake to Miami at No. 73 Fri Apr 29, 10:08 PM
The Miami Dolphins selected Alabama RB Kenyan Drake with the No. 73 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29.
|Footballguys view: Drake is a solid change of pace guy who can help support Jay Ajayi, and fill in if his legs cannot hold up.|
Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill impressing head coach Fri Apr 29, 08:56 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has impressed head coach Adam Gase so far in this young offseason. 'I didn't realize how live his arm is,' Gase said. 'The more I watch him throw, it's effortless. That ball travels down the field pretty good. He's hit some big plays, just underneath having some touch; it's been good to see things live.'
|Footballguys view: It seems like we hear this every single year. When will Tannehill really improve? We're not holding our breath. We figure he's a low-end QB2 or QB3 this year until we see some actual improvement.|

Dolphins | Daniel Thomas familiar with offense Fri Apr 29, 08:20 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas already knows the offensive terminology and what to expect, according to head coach Adam Gase. Gase added that Thomas is a step ahead of everyone in meetings, too, as Thomas played under Gase when they were both with the Chicago Bears.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins say Jay Ajayi is the man there, but we wouldn't be shocked if Thomas had a nice-sized role as well. Whether it will kill Ajayi's fantasy value or not remains to be seen.|

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi viewed as starter Fri Apr 29, 07:57 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is viewed as the starter in the eyes of head coach Adam Gase. 'He knows he's the starter,' Gase said. 'He's showing me a lot of great things. I like his skill set. He's impressd me more both days [of practice].'
|Footballguys view: They planned on Ajayi taking over at some point, and we think he could be productive if the rest of the offense and the line can step up this year. Right now our very early prediction is RB2.|

Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil may be used at OT or OG Fri Apr 29, 06:40 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil could be used at offensive tackle or offensive guard in 2016, but head coach Adam Gase said the team will start the best five offensive linemen.
|Footballguys view: They have flexibility with Tunsil and will find where he fits best. That's a good plan for him, and will allow them to plug the biggest hole they discover.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil will talk to media Fri Apr 29, 05:03 PM
Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil (illness) will participate in a press conference Friday, April 29. Tunsil's original press conference was cancelled because he had an allergic reaction to something.
|Footballguys view: That will make the press and fans relax. He stood tall in the face of chaos Thursday night, and we expect the same at his press conference.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil to miss press conference Fri Apr 29, 03:38 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil (illness) will miss his introductory press conference Friday, April 29, because of an allergic reaction, according executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum. Tunsil is currently meeting with team doctors.
|Footballguys view: There has been some grumbling about this being a bad look, that he is dodging the reporters, but he stood up on Thursday night so we're willing to give him a break.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil may enter NFL drug program Fri Apr 29, 02:25 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil could be placed in the NFL drug program, but he faces no discipline from the leaked video that surfaced on draft day because he's not in the program right now. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Tunsil's entry into the program 'is up to the medical clinicians.' Tunsil has not failed any drug tests in his two years at Ole Miss, but the video of him smoking from a bong would still merit potential reference into the program. As the policy notes, subsequent violations, once a player is in in the program, will result in a two-game fine, a four-game fine, a four-game suspension, a 10-game suspension and one-year banishment.
|Footballguys view: It's an unfortunate set of events, but as he has not failed any tests since entering college, he may not now. He's a steal if he can keep his head on straight and limit the chaos off the field, he will be a great pick for Miami. There's absolutely risk though, and things like this are why.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil to start at guard Fri Apr 29, 08:24 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil will likely open the season starting at guard unless an injury occurs to a starting tackle.
|Footballguys view: We assume he will eventually shift to tackle, and as Tunsil (videos aside) was considered one of the top - if not THE top - player in the draft, we assume it won't take too long. We don't know if he can keep himself free of distractions, but if so, the Dolphins got a steal.|

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi wants to be shiftier Wed Apr 27, 03:16 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he wants to drop eight to ten pounds this season and play around 218 pounds to 220 pounds in order to be shiftier. He played between 228 pounds and 230 pounds last season.
|Footballguys view: Ajayi is the favorite to be submarined by Ezekiel Elliott tomorrow with the Dolphins rumored to be trading up for the Ohio State back. Even if Elliott ends up elsewhere, Ajayi will be joined by a rookie, but he could hold off anyone not named Elliott to remain the starter.|

Dolphins | Cameron Wake able to practice Wed Apr 27, 12:42 AM
Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') was able to practice Tuesday, April 26, just six months after tearing his Achilles' tendon. He worked on a limited basis, and didn't participate in team or 7-on-7 drills, but still impressive fellow DE Andre Branch. 'That's awesome. He's definitely a vet in his league. He's been playing at a high level for a long period of time. He leads by example. He's the type of player you follow,' Branch said. Head coach Adam Gase said the goal is to have Wake 100 percent when training camp arrives.
|Footballguys view: Wake is in the last year of his contract, but the Dolphins only have Mario Williams at defensive end after him when looking for proven players at the position. This terrific recovery timeline for Wake could help his case to get a one or two-year extension from the team before free agency next year.|

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi impressing head coach Tue Apr 26, 08:00 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi has impressed new head coach Adam Gase so far in offseason workouts. 'I guess I never realized how shifty he was, and today was a great example,' Gase said. 'Just seeing him stick his foot in the ground and change direction, you didn't see him do that a lot in college. Just being able to see him move around, it was very impressive for me to see him in person. The way he cut in some of the run game schemes ... I mean, I'm really excited to see what we can do going forward.'
|Footballguys view: Ajayi is impressing Gase, but the team has constantly been on the lookout for RB help this offseason. They signed C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet (that was matched by the Broncos) and they even kicked the tires on Chris Johnson. We like Ajayi, but we won't be surprised if the Dolphins move up in the draft to select Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott.|

Dolphins | Byron Maxwell at full health Tue Apr 26, 03:44 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Byron Maxwell (shoulder) said his shoulder is 100% healthy.
|Footballguys view: Maxwell missed two games last season with the Philadelphia Eagles because of a sprained sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder. We'll see if he can stay healthy and play better than he did with the Eagles in 2015. We believe in new Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, but he's got his work cut out for him in Miami.|

Dolphins | Two players Miami would trade up for Tue Apr 26, 01:24 AM
Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott and UCLA LB Myles Jack are two players the Miami Dolphins would consider trading up from No. 13 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft to select, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Elliott would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins. He's easily the best RB in this draft class and would immediately start for the team. Jack has a knee condition that could cause him to slide in the 2016 NFL draft. How far will depend on each team's medical research.|
Dolphins | Myles Jack could be an option for Miami Mon Apr 25, 08:42 AM
UCLA LB Myles Jack (knee) could be an option for the Miami Dolphins with the No. 13 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
|Footballguys view: Jack is returning from a knee injury which could have long-term effects, but each team is going to have a differing report on the condition. The Dolphins could use a player like Jack. He can fly all over the field, has a nose for the ball and arrives at the ball-carrier with nasty intentions.|
Dolphins | Miami spending time with Robert Nkemdiche Mon Apr 25, 07:54 AM
Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche has spent time with the Miami Dolphins in the days leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.
|Footballguys view: Nkemdiche weighs in at nearly 300 pounds and has little bad weight. He's quick off the line of scrimmage and can create interior pressure on the quarterback. Off-field issues could cause him to slide to the end of the first round, but he's well worth taking this early based on his natural talent and potential. The Dolphins have the 13th-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.|
