Dolphins | Koa Misi still in holding pattern    Sun Jun 25, 10:28 AM

Miami Dolphins LB Koa Misi (neck) has still not been cleared to resume football activities, although he has visited a doctor in the last two weeks and is reportedly scheduled to see another doctor right before the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are tricky to come back from, so the team is going to be wisely cautious here. Misi is not guaranteed to be available for the 2017 season, but there is optimism regarding his situation. We shall see what his evaluations reveal before training camp.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry getting it done in the slot    Tue Jun 20, 10:50 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry has secured 199 catches out of the slot over the last three seasons, more than any other receiver in the NFL over that time.

Footballguys view: Landry is going to get a ton of catches in 2017 ...just like he does every year and mostly out of the slot. He's unlikely to be used much in the red zone, and that limits his fantasy value. In 12-team PPR leagues, Landry is going off the board at WR19 (4.02).

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry will not hold out    Tue Jun 20, 12:03 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will not negotiate with the Dolphins regarding a contract extension after the start of the season, according to his agent, who added the receiver will not hold out training camp if the deal is not reached in the next few weeks.

Footballguys view: As a second-round pick in 2014, Landry had no fifth-year option for the Dolphins to exercise. He's one of the most productive receivers in the league and can continue to be a key component of the Dolphins passing game. However, the two sides have not talked money and there seems to be a slight bit of hesitation from the team's side of things.

Dolphins | Charles Harris disruptive    Mon Jun 19, 10:35 AM

Miami Dolphins DE Charles Harris' quick first step was problematic for the team's offensive linemen in organized team activities and minicamp. He should make an impact in 2017 despite a limited role, in the opinion of beat writer James Walker.

Footballguys view: In college at Missouri, Harris stood out because of his agility, burst and athleticism when getting after the passer. The Dolphins first-round pick in 2017, he's got an array of pass-rushing moves that most young players just don't have. Harris is likely to get onto the field as a part-time pass-rusher during his rookie season.

Dolphins | Julius Thomas struggling    Sun Jun 18, 11:23 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas has been a non-factor in practices and appears to have chemistry issues with QB Ryan Tannehill, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel.

Footballguys view: They've got time to work things out, so don't panic with this story. Keep a mental note of it, but watch to see if Thomas shows better chemistry during training camp. The offense is familiar to him as he played under head coach Adam Gase during their time together in Denver. Thomas is a TE2 with upside for fantasy owners.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi rounding out his game    Sun Jun 18, 11:04 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi looks much smoother running routes and finishing receptions than he did last year, as catching the ball out of the backfield became a major focus during his offseason training.

Footballguys view: This is a constant drumbeat we've heard in the offseason. Ajayi could be used more in the passing game, and that improves his already high fantasy value. We could see him going over 1,200 yards rushing again with 35 or so receptions (he had 27 catches last year). Ajayi is currently going off the board at RB7 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | More Dolphins nursing injuries    Thu Jun 15, 04:31 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Koa Misi's (neck) status for training camp remains unclear as he continues to recover from a neck injury. OT Laremy Tunsil (hamstring) and WR Rashawn Scott (foot), however, are expected to be healthy enough to participate in training camp.

Footballguys view: Tunsil is the most important piece here, as his move to left tackle is critical to the offense. Tunsil has more than showed he can handle the rigors of a full season, so we feel confident he will be Ok this season.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey recovering well    Thu Jun 15, 04:25 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is on a good track and improving well in his recovery from hip surgery, although it's unclear at this point if he will be able to participate in training camp. Pouncey's goal is to be available 'for the duration' of training camp, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Injuries on the offensive line were part of the problems which created a very inconsistent offense. If guys like Jay Ajayi and Ryan Tannehill are to have success in 2017, the line has to stay healthy.

Dolphins | Coach happy with Ryan Tannehill's accuracy    Tue Jun 13, 09:02 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's accuracy has been really good during offseason workouts, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: In 13 games last year, Tannehill posted a career-high 67.1 percent completion rate. He's thrown 12 interceptions each of the last three years, and that's where he needs to make the most improvements. Perhaps better accuracy will help that.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry reports for minicamp    Tue Jun 13, 08:45 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry reported for the start of minicamp Tuesday, June 13, even though he is looking for a new contract. Landry would like to sign an extension before the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in 2014, Landry is entering the final year of his contract. Head coach Adam Gase has praised Landry's work ethic this offseason as he's doing the 'little things' better according to reports. Many beat writers feel there's better than a 60 percent chance Landry will get the extension he seeks before Week 1 of the regular season.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills back on the field    Tue Jun 13, 08:39 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills (undisclosed) participated in practice Tuesday, June 13.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins will continue to utilize Stills as a deep threat behind Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker. His nine touchdowns last year may be difficult to duplicate this year with the addition of noted touchdown hog TE Julius Thomas.

Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil could miss minicamp    Tue Jun 13, 08:31 PM

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi prepared for big workload    Tue Jun 13, 06:04 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is ready to receive more touches this season. 'I'll be ready to carry the ball however many times I have to,' Ajayi said. 'I feel like I'm a workhorse and I get better as the game keeps going and I continue to be a part of the game.'

Footballguys view: Head coach Adam Gase admitted that Ajayi is Miami's bell cow running back. Fantasy owners know that Ajayi can tote the rock as the lead back for the Dolphins. He's been working on his route-running ability and could be in line for more receptions than the 27 he posted in 2016. The no11 fantasy back last year, Ajayi should break into the top 10 in 2017. His current ADP is RB7 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi worked on route running    Tue Jun 13, 01:07 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi began working on his route running with QB Ryan Tannehill and the wide receivers in March.

Footballguys view: Ajayi had 27 catches last year but wasn't a consistent part of the passing game. He's the battering ram as a runner, but better routes might lead to more targets as a receiver out of the backfield. We're not going overboard with projections for Ajayi as a receiver. Projecting 35 or so receptions seems reasonable for 2017.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker looking good    Mon Jun 12, 08:03 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has been making things look easy during offseason workouts and will be a big part of the offense in 2017, according to QB Matt Moore.

Footballguys view: This entire offseason has been filled with positive reports about Parker. That's a drumbeat fantasy owners need to be paying attention to. Parker has been more dedicated to his craft this offseason, and his coaches have taken note. Beat writers around the team are expecting him to have a breakout season in 2017. Parker has a current ADP of WR38 (8.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Lawrence Timmons impressing at workouts    Mon Jun 12, 07:55 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Lawrence Timmons has been impressive during offseason workouts and has shown good speed during practice, according to QB Matt Moore.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins gave Timmons a two-year, $12 million contract with $11 million guaranteed. They need him to boost their linebacking corps in 2017. Miami was 30th against the run last year, and Timmons should be able to improve that area of their defense.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake returning punts    Sun Jun 11, 04:47 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake has been returning punts during offseason workouts and could compete with Jakeem Grant for the punt returner job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Drake is larger than Grant and has good straight-line speed. Grant is more agile and can break in and out of his cuts faster. Keep an eye on this battle if you get bonus points for return yards in your league.

Dolphins | Miami not pursuing David Harris    Sat Jun 10, 12:36 PM

Free-agent LB David Harris (Jets) has not received interest from the Miami Dolphins since he was released from the New York Jets, but the Dolphins could show interest in Harris in the future.

Footballguys view: Harris may not be the player he used to be, but he's still capable of being a reliable starter. We imagine he'll find a new home before the start of training camp.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry not focused enough?    Thu Jun 8, 05:55 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry must 'zero in' on the small details of the game that kept the Dolphins from 'clicking' last year, according to The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley. Head coach Adam Gase has been pleased with how consistent Landry has been practicing and doing the little things. 'When he's rolling he was today, you just keep trying to find ways to get him the ball,' Gase said.

Footballguys view: Gase has high expectations for Landry, and that's not a bad thing. There were six games last year where Landry had fewer than five catches. Being more consistent will come from those small details.

Dolphins | Miami signs Mitch Mathews    Thu Jun 8, 04:27 PM

Dolphins | DeVante Parker showing more consistency    Thu Jun 8, 12:05 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is showing more consistency during organized team activities, according to offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen. 'He's run fast every day where last year it was kind of up and down,' Christensen said. 'One day you'd think you had a Hall of Famer and the next you weren't sure if he was going to make it to the game. Just his health and staying consistent. I think his routine and how fast he's played has been really, really different from last year.'

Footballguys view: Parker was supposed to be a break out star for the Dolphins in Adam Gase's offense, but that didn't happen. Yes, Parker saw a lot more target (38 more than 2015) and that translated into 56 receptions and almost double his 2015 yardage total. He only broke 100 yards once, though, and there were eight games when he didn't even top 50. He was wildly inconsistent and unless that changes he won't every hit his fantasy potential.

Dolphins | OC optimistic about Julius Thomas    Wed Jun 7, 02:52 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas has the chance to be a 10-touchdoown player if he can stay healthy, according to offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen.

Footballguys view: Thomas is back with Adam Gase, and he could be a valuable fantasy asset once again in this offense. He was a fantasy favorite working with Gase in Denver, and Thomas could improve upon the production he had in two years with Jacksonville. Thomas just needs to stay healthy as the fourth-round pick in 2011 has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. Projecting him for around 40 catches and 5-7 touchdowns is not out of the question.

Dolphins | Julius Thomas to be heavily involved?    Tue Jun 6, 02:57 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas is going to be a big part of the Dolphins' offensive plans in 2017, according to QB Matt Moore.

Footballguys view: Thomas had some of his best years under Adam Gase in Denver, but we aren't sure that will translate here. In the early goings his ADP is 158 overall and 17 in tight ends, which means the general public feels hesitant about it as well. Right now we like his value, and his upside, but caution is the word.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry a decent bet to sign new deal    Tue Jun 6, 12:41 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry is entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract, and the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes there is a 60 percent chance Landry will sign an extension prior to the start of the season.

Footballguys view: We almost prefer him in a contract year, as that tends to motivate guys. Maybe it's unfair to paint him with a broad brush, but we've seen enough guys take their foot off the gas after a big payday to worry. He's in a great position to succeed with a lot of weapons around to take attention from him, but his touchdown totals are always really low and we expect them to remain so. Currently sitting at an ADP of 37 overall, and 19 at his position, clearly he is still highly valued.

Dolphins | Drew Morgan impressive this offseason    Mon Jun 5, 08:44 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Drew Morgan has been the most impressive of the team's young receivers during the three organized team activities that have been open to reporters, in the opinion of The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. Morgan made several catches during practice Monday, June 5, and also had significant yards after the catch.

Footballguys view: Morgan was undrafted out of Arkansas this year, and he's got the skill set of a slot receiver. He ran the slowest 40-yard dash (4.74) of any receiver at the combine and is known more for savvy rather than big-time playmaking ability. Only two of his catches last year were caught at 20 yards or more. He's going to work underneath routes while utilizing crisp routes to move the chains.

Dolphins | Charles Harris doing well during OTAs    Mon Jun 5, 08:37 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Charles Harris has been making disruptive plays consistently during organized team activities, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right based on his college film at Missouri. Harris is a hustle player with a quick burst off the line and instincts to run down the play. His best assets are on display when he's making plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Don't ask him to drop into coverage, just send him after the passer and it sounds like that's what the Dolphins will do with the rookie in 2017.

Dolphins | Miami not considering Darrelle Revis    Mon Jun 5, 08:22 PM

Free-agent CB Darrelle Revis (Jets) is not a player the Miami Dolphins have considered signing this offseason, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The buzz around Revis is that there's 'no market' for his services as teams are concerned about his current commitment to football. If he does get any interest towards training camp, Revis would have to be willing to play for a deal around the veteran minimum. He also would be unlikely to be guaranteed any money or a spot on the 53-man roster if signed.

Dolphins | Lawrence Okoye battling for spot    Sat Jun 3, 09:49 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Lawrence Okoye has been making plays throughout OTAs, according to head coach Adam Gase, and Gase said Okoye will be given a chance to prove he belongs.

Footballguys view: A rugby player and Olympian as a discus thrower, Okoye has been trying to break into the NFL since 2013. Miami is the seventh team to sign him, and he hasn't been in a regular season game yet. He's a long-shot to be sure, but at 6'6" 304 pounds, there are reasons to give him a look in camp.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey may not be ready for camp    Sat Jun 3, 08:10 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) may begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues to recover from an April stem cell procedure.

Footballguys view: The PUP list in training camp is no big deal as a player can come off that list in a moment's notice. If Pouncey is still struggling after that, the PUP list for the regular season then becomes an option. That would automatically force him out the first six weeks of the regular season. It's too soon to speculate about that, so just watch to see where Pouncey is at come mid-August.

Dolphins | Less double coverage for Jarvis Landry?    Thu Jun 1, 12:45 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry estimated he'd been 'doubled on' about half the pass plays the team has run over the past two seasons, but believes the addition of TE Julius Thomas will prevent opponents from double-teaming him as often.

Footballguys view: Landry is dangerous because of his run-after-the-catch ability. Snaring 100 passes this year is not out of the question, but Landry has never been much of a TD hogj (career high 5 TD receptions as a rookie in 2014). With Thomas in town (noted TD machine), Landry's trips to pay dirt may be limited again.

Dolphins | Julius Thomas poised for big year    Wed May 31, 01:36 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas is 'going to be a thing this year' if he stays healthy, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, who reports the team has drawn up multiple plays just for him.

Footballguys view: Staying healthy is the big 'if' with Thomas. Always has been and always will be. He's never played a full 16-game season during his pro career. Thomas is back in the Adam Gase offense, one he was incredibly productive in when he was with the Broncos. His current ADP is low, and he could outperform where he's going off the board at TE17 (13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Drew Morgan shining in OTAs    Sat May 27, 10:44 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Drew Morgan was able to repeatedly create separation and make catches during practice Thursday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Morgan was picked up as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas this year. He has great feet and knows how to run a clean route, so the fact he's getting open in OTAs is no surprise. Morgan is not fast and has an upright running style that prevents him from beating the jam consistently. A slot/possession receiver, Morgan is a poor man's version of Wayne Chrebet. Buried on the Dolphins depth chart, Morgan is looking to impress in order to win a spot on the practice squad.

Dolphins | Julius Thomas working on chemistry with QB    Fri May 26, 06:34 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas' chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill appears to be a work in progress at this point during offseason workouts, in the opinion of The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.

Footballguys view: Thomas is back in the Adam Gase offense where he was a star (and fantasy beast) with the Broncos. His role is clear, and Thomas should provide a big upgrade for the Dolphins at the position as he's a red-zone weapon when healthy. Thomas has never played a full 16-game schedule as a pro, so fantasy owners need to proceed with caution when considering him. The risk is cooked into his current ADP (TE19, 13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Jakeem Grant working on route running    Fri May 26, 06:24 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant has been working on improving his route running this offseason. Grant receiving some snaps at outside receiver during organized team activities Thursday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Grant is small (5'7" 172 pounds) but he can absolutely break ankles in the open field. He's lightning quick and can change direction without losing much speed. His main contributions should come as a return man, but the Dolphins could make a package of plays for him as a wide receiver too. In fantasy leagues that reward points for return yards, Grant is a player to monitor.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo not a lock to make team    Fri May 26, 01:46 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo is expected to be the front-runner for the No. 4 receiver job, but it is far from certain he will make the team, according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.

Footballguys view: Carroo may be the front-runner for the no4 job, but watch out for a guy like Rashawn Scott or Jakeem Grant behind him. Grant is more of the small-bodied, lightning quick returner while Scott plays a little like Allen Hurns. We'd be shocked if the team gave up on their third-round pick from the 2016 NFL draft. Carroo has the size/hands to be a reliable target but hasn't put it all together yet. He needs to be a better route runner as his speed won't get him separation at the pro level.
