Dolphins | DeVante Parker not accepting help    Sat May 26, 10:05 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has not responded to retired WR Chris Chambers' attempts to help him 'speed up his growth curve,' according to Chambers. 'I don't know if he fully gets what it means to be a pro,' Chambers said. 'Athleticism and talent only last so long.'

Footballguys view: A first-round pick in 2015, Parker has yet to truly play up to his potential. Injuries and inconsistencies have held him back but he's looking for a breakout season in 2018. With Jarvis Landry (Browns) traded away, Parker will have a larger opportunity this year. Fantasy owners are taking him at WR40 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues at this time.

Miami Dolphins LB Raekwon McMillan (knee) said there are no limitations on what he can do during organized team activities.

Dolphins | Albert Wilson moving around    Wed May 23, 09:10 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson said he has lined up as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver during organized team activities.

Footballguys view: We'd feel a bit better about Wilson this year if he wasn't competing with Danny Amendola for the no.3 WR spot behind DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills. Not a lot of fantasy value here, especially with Ryan Tannehill coming back from injury to start at quarterback.

Dolphins | Frank Gore will be limited    Wed May 23, 09:03 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Frank Gore likely will not participate in many team drills during offseason workouts, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Gore is a seasoned pro and doesn't need a ton of reps. The Dolphins should use Kenyan Drake as their lead back and receiving option out of the backfield. Behind Drake, Gore should compete with rookie Kalen Ballage for playing time.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill has full clearance    Wed May 23, 02:34 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is fully cleared for all football activities as of last week.

Footballguys view: It's now or never for Tannehill as his future in Miami past this year is in doubt. He's been a top-15 QB for fantasy owners three times in his career, but the last season he played (2016) Tannehill was QB26 at the end of the year. Tannehill no longer wears a knee brace and said he's feeling 'really good right now' after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered two years ago.

Dolphins | Tony Lippett limited at OTAs    Wed May 23, 01:09 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Tony Lippett (Achiless') is participating on a limited basis during organized team activities as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles' tendon.

Dolphins | Raekwon McMillan expected to start    Tue May 22, 08:22 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Raekwon McMillan (knee) participated fully in OTAs on Tuesday, May 22, and is expected to be the starting middle linebacker, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill sheds knee brace    Tue May 22, 12:39 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) took part in OTAs without a knee brace Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: It's a good sign for Tannehill as he works back towards being 100 percent. The Dolphins didn't draft a quarterback in the 2018 NFL draft, so they're going all in on Tannehill one more time. He needs to not only regain his form, but also show improvement as their starter in 2018 if he wants to stick as their starter.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill to work in full    Tue May 22, 08:34 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will participate in full in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Tannehill hasn't played since December 2016 as he missed all of last season due to this knee injury. At full strength, Tannehill has QB2 written all over him for fantasy owners this year. He'll be operating without Jarvis Landry (Browns) this season, but new targets like WR Danny Amendola and rookie TEs Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe should boost the Dolphins passing game.

Dolphins | Miami to get trio back on field for OTAs    Sat May 19, 10:05 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee), LB Raekwon McMillan (knee) and CB Tony Lippett (Achilles') are all expected to be on the field in some capacity next week, although it is still uncertain how much work all three will actually do, according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post.

Footballguys view: Tannehill is the one fantasy owners (and the Dolphins) will be monitoring closely during camp. He missed all of last year with this knee injury, prompting the Dolphins to go out and sign Jay Cutler. Now, Tannehill is back for one more (and final?) season as the starter. With Brock Osweiler, Bryce Petty and David Fales behind him the Dolphins don't have many choices other than to see if Tannehill can not only regain his form but show that he's got more potential than he's shown as a pro.

Dolphins | Danny Amendola making an impact    Thu May 17, 10:15 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Danny Amendola's work ethic has been impressing the coaching staff and rubbing off on the locker room, according to head coach Adam Gase. 'Any time you can get a guy who can not only produce for you but can be a great example for other guys in your locker room, he's making other guys better,' Gase said. 'He makes 24 other offensive guys better if they watch him work.'

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill looking good for OTAs    Tue May 15, 06:08 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will not be limited much if he is limited at all during organized team activities next week, according to sources. The coaching staff may choose to limit him more no matter what team doctors say, though.

Footballguys view: Don't be surprised if the Dolphins just ease Tannehill back into action. He's definitely in a make-or-break year for the Dolphins in 2018 after missing all of last year with that knee injury. Signed through the 2020 season, the Dolphins are going with Tannehill as their top guy this year since they did not select a quarterback with a premium pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Dolphins | Two Dolphins WRs may return punts    Mon May 14, 01:08 PM

Miami Dolphins WRs Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson will be candidates to return punts this upcoming season, according to special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

Footballguys view: Watch this competition if you play in a league that rewards points for return yards. Either option would be good players for the Dolphins in that role.

Dolphins | Miami wants Mike Gesicki on the field    Sat May 12, 09:56 PM

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said they could use more sets with three tight ends this year in order to utilize TE Mike Gesicki.

Footballguys view: Gesicki takes a basketball skill set to the football field and is your prototypical 'F' receiving tight end. We'll be interested to see how Gesicki can be incorporated into the offense, especially since fellow rookie TE Durham Smythe is there as well.

Dolphins | David Fales could win backup gig    Fri May 11, 09:40 PM

Miami Dolphins QB David Fales was impressive in his Week 17 start last year and will have a chance to compete with QB Brock Osweiler to be the backup quarterback in 2018, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Fales has a quick throwing motion and he's got great anticipation as a passer. His arm strength isn't the greatest and he's not the biggest guy either. We'll see if he can beat out Osweiler for that backup job to Ryan Tannehill in 2018.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki ready to make impact    Fri May 11, 09:25 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki said his best attributes right now are 'scoring touchdowns in the red zone' and making contested catches. 'That's one of reasons I was picked where I was,' Gesicki said.

Footballguys view: Gesicki lined up in the slot or as the 'F' tight end for the Nittany Lions in college. A former standout basketball and volleyball player in high school, Gesicki is a fluid athlete who creates mismatches when he's on the football field. The Dolphins have to find a new starter at tight end with their decision to move on from Julius Thomas.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker playing with purpose    Thu May 10, 02:36 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has done a great job so far this offseason and seems to be playing with more of a purposed, according to head coach Adam Gase. Gase posited that injuries have been the main hindrance to Parker's growth and development, including a high-ankle sprain last season. Furthermore, he believes the presence of fellow WRs Kenny Stills and Danny Amendola will aid Parker's growth.

Footballguys view: It's hard to get enthusiastic over a report, the substance of which is the exact same thing we've heard nearly every year with him...and have yet to see it pay off in a consistent way. Add in the equally inconsistent quarterback play and while we like the idea of Parker hitting big, we don't buy it right now. His current ADP in 12-team PPR leagues is WR41 (9.05).

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake ready for breakout?     Thu May 10, 01:13 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake is ready to 'bust out' this season, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins do have the immortal Frank Gore behind him, but they certainly don't see Gore as a long-term answer. They need Drake to step up, and reports earlier this year indicated he added more body armor (weight) during this offseason. Drake didn't really get going until Week 13 last year, and he had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games after that (finishing with 644 yards on the ground and 4.8 yards per carry). If Drake struggles we could see a committee pretty quickly.

Dolphins | Akeem Spence has chance to start    Wed May 9, 09:23 PM

Miami Dolphins DT Akeem Spence is expected to compete for one of the starting defensive tackle jobs during training camp.

Footballguys view: That's why they added him via trade earlier this month. He was with the Lions for only one season, but the 2013 fourth-round pick (Buccaneers) is getting a fresh start with the Dolphins. They need to find a replacement for Ndamukong Suh, and Spence will be in that mix...although not even close to that level of player.

Dolphins | Durham Smythe could see some targets    Wed May 9, 09:20 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Durham Smythe should have a role in the passing game because the team believes he is a better receiver than he is given credit for. The team also likes his blocking ability.

Footballguys view: Smythe is a bit of an old school tight end as he is a blocker and receiver. He can line up in line, in the slot or even out wide. Smythe is not going to break ankles as a route runner, but he can use his frame to box out defenders when the ball is coming in.

Dolphins | A.J. Derby could make team    Wed May 9, 09:18 PM

Miami Dolphins TE A.J. Derby has a solid chance to make the 53-man roster because the Dolphins believe he can be an asset in the passing game.

Footballguys view: Derby is strictly a receiving tight end. He led the Broncos tight ends in receiving even though he didn't finish the year in Denver and was waived at the end of November 2017. Derby should not be asked to block much, but he can get open against linebackers in space.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler not guaranteed job    Wed May 9, 09:09 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Brock Osweiler is considered the leading candidate for the No. 2 quarterback job entering training camp, but QB David Fales could win the job if Osweiler struggles during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Osweiler was with the Broncos last year but didn't do anything to impress in a handful of games. He's trying to get his career back on track with a familiar coach in Adam Gase. Osweiler was with Gase during his first stint with the Broncos.

Dolphins | Miami adds Bryce Petty    Fri May 4, 04:50 PM

The Miami Dolphins claimed QB Bryce Petty off waivers from the New York Jets Friday, May 4, according to a source.

Footballguys view: That was quick. Petty was released by the Jets on Thursday but lands with another AFC East team on Friday. He'll compete with David Fales to be the third-string quarterback behind starter Ryan Tannehill and veteran backup Brock Osweiler.

Dolphins | Miami acquires Akeem Spence    Thu May 3, 04:22 PM

Detroit Lions DT Akeem Spence was acquired by the Miami Dolphins Thursday, May 3, in exchange for an undisclosed 2019 draft choice.

Footballguys view: Spence has the potential to help shore up the middle of the defensive line, but likely as a rotational player.

Dolphins | Jason Sanders will not be handed job    Sun Apr 29, 07:46 PM

Miami Dolphins PK Jason Sanders is expected to compete with another kicker during training camp, according to vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins didn't have a kicker going into the draft. Sanders should be the favorite to win the job, but if he falters in camp and the preseason, he could yield to competition or the team could sign a kicker who is released at final cutdowns.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki may start early    Sat Apr 28, 05:13 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has a good chance to start as a rookie since the team released TE Julius Thomas earlier this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for a starting move tight end, and Gesicki could be a good fit. Whether Ryan Tannehill can take advantage of his ability is another matter entirely.

Dolphins | Miami takes Kalen Ballage    Sat Apr 28, 01:35 PM

The Miami Dolphins selected Arizona State RB Kalen Ballage with the 131st overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Saturday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Ballage is a little too indecisive and lacks vision, which makes it an uphill climb to be more than a role player. He's a jack of all trades, master of none type guy, with limited upside.

Link to story

Dolphins | Durham Smythe joins Miami    Sat Apr 28, 01:07 PM

The Miami Dolphins selected Notre Dame TE Durham Smythe with the 123rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Saturday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Smythe feels much more like an offensive line pick than a tight end pick. He can catch the ball, but there's nothing special about that aspect of his game, while he is nasty in blasting defenders on a run play. Very little fantasy value, but will help pave the way for the Miami run game.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki needs to develop    Sat Apr 28, 12:54 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki needs to improve as an in-line blocker, according to general manager Chris Grier, but Grier said it is normal for tight ends with big frames to need time to develop that part of their game.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins want Gesicki primarily as a move tight end, so they'll deal with some subpar blocking for a while. But he needs to learn to block, as it will keep him on the field more.

Dolphins | Miami drafts Mike Gesicki    Fri Apr 27, 07:50 PM

The Miami Dolphins selected Penn State TE Mike Gesicki with the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday, April 27.

Footballguys view: Jerry Jones is going to be cheesed off, as we're pretty sure one of the top tight ends in the draft going off to Miami on the same day Jason Witten retires has to hurt. A former basketball player -- of course -- Gesicki is a terror to matchup with and hard to keep up with in space.

Dolphins | Minkah Fitzpatrick to play safety     Thu Apr 26, 09:31 PM

Miami Dolphins DB Minkah Fitzpatrick will play safety, according to general manager Chris Grier, and Grier called Fitzpatrick a 'Swiss Army knife' for the defense.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick played some corner in college, but he is a better fit at safety and will be more effective there for Miami.

Dolphins | Minkah Fitzpatrick selected by Miami    Thu Apr 26, 09:19 PM

The Miami Dolphins selected Alabama S Minkah Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Thursday, April 26.

Footballguys view: A little later than expected but that's just value for Miami. The best safety in the class, Fitzpatrick can do anything you need a safety to do, cover, contain the run, attack the ball. Miami's secondary has had issues, and this won't solve them all, but it does help a lot.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker's option picked up    Tue Apr 24, 03:46 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker's fifth-year option was exercised, as expected, Tuesday, April 24.

Footballguys view: Parker gets a salary of around $9 million in 2019...that is only guaranteed for injury. He's coming off a down season, but with the Dolphins trading away Jarvis Landry (Browns) it should lead to more opportunities for Parker in 2018.

Dolphins | Miami eyeing linebackers?    Fri Apr 20, 01:21 PM

University of Georgia LB Roquan Smith is reportedly the player the Miami Dolphins 'really want' with the No. 11 pick in next week's NFL Draft - assuming they don't trade up for a quarterback - according to DraftAnalyst's Tony Pauline. If Smith is gone and the Dolphins pass on a quarterback, Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch and Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds will be on their radar, per Pauline.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker's option to be picked up    Thu Apr 19, 10:10 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker's fifth-year option is expected to be exercised. It would be worth around $9.5 million.

Footballguys view: On the plus side, with Jarvis Landry gone, Parker could see an uptick in targets. On the minus side we've expected a "break out season" the last couple of years to no avail. We will wait until camp and see what this extension and Landry's departure mean, if anything, for Parker's production before we get enthusiastic.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill won't play behind anyone    Wed Apr 18, 02:45 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will be the starter this season. That proclamation was recently reiterated by Miami executives, who added that a rookie quarterback would spend their season watching and learning from Tannehill.

Footballguys view: Tannehill missed all of last season with a knee injury, but now he's back in the starting lineup for the Dolphins...for now. It just seems like the team wants to move on when they can. We've heard about them potentially having interest in QB Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), but he's not getting out of the top 10...and may be gone by no.3 overall to the Jets.
