Dolphins | Branden Albert expected to play Week 1    Fri May 22, 03:45 PM

Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert (knee) is still recovering from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, but it is reasonable to expect him to play in Week 1 next season, according to general manager Dennis Hickey.

Footballguys view: Getting Albert back will boost the Dolphins rushing attack, and it will help better protect Ryan Tannehill. The team will monitor the veteran tackle's progress through training camp.

Dolphins | Louis Delmas almost full go    Thu May 21, 07:49 PM

Miami Dolphins FS Louis Delmas (knee) is nearly 100% just 6 1/2 months after surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to general manager Dennis Hickey.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill contract breakdown    Thu May 21, 12:09 PM

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will earn $12.2 million in 2015, but only $745,000 of it will be in base salary. His 2016 base salary of $9.34 million is fully guaranteed. In 2017, the Dolphins will have five days into the league year to decide whether to fully guarantee his $17.47 million base salary, which essentially gives the Dolphins an opt-out if Tannehill struggles to meet expectations over the next two seasons. His contract contains no guaranteed money in 2019 and 2020, other than the prorated signing bonus, so Miami could save $17 million in 2019 and $18 million in 2020 by releasing him.

Footballguys view: So this is really a 2-3 year contract with no guaranteed money in the back half of it. The onus continues to be on Tannehill to prove he is a franchise quarterback. The Dolphins had to get something done, because even as an average quarterback, Tannehill is one of only 15-20 sure-fire starters in the NFL. His ADP in redraft is right in the middle of drafts - around round nine or ten - and we see him as just outside QB1 status.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller entering contract year    Wed May 20, 11:57 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller enters the final year of his rookie contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2016, according to Spotrac.com. Miller appears poised to headline the free-agent running back class with another strong season and could be playing for a big contract.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have prepared for life without Miller with the addition of Jay Ajayi (Boise State) in the 2015 NFL draft. Miller cracked 1,000 yards rushing last year and he bulked up to around 225 pounds this offseason to hold up to the punishment he'll take as the lead back. Another good year could mean Miller gets a big payday in 2016.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill signs extension    Mon May 18, 04:13 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill signed an extension through the 2020 season Monday, May 18. Tannehill's new deal includes four new contract years and up to $77 million in new money. The deal is worth $95.27 million over six total years, with options for 2015 and 2016 added in.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins secure their franchise quarterback with a new long-term deal. He's steadily improved as a pro, and Tannehill could take a big step forward in 2015. The Dolphins have put much better weapons around him this season with the addition of guys like Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker and Jordan Cameron. Tannehill should be a top-10 fantasy quarterback in 2015.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi says he is fine    Sun May 10, 10:08 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he feels great and there is nothing wrong with his knee. Head coach Joe Philbin said Ajayi will be given opportunities to prove his value to the team during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Picking up Ajayi was a fantastic move for the Dolphins. He can learn the ropes this year, then take over as the lead back if (when) Lamar Miller moves on in free agency next year. Ajayi played with knee issues last season and still had over 1,800 yards rushing for Boise State. His workload over the last three seasons (678 carries) might be a concern for some. Ajayi won't have to carry the load this season for the Dolphins, but he's a future starter and a potential star. Drafting him in the fifth round could be a huge steal for the Dolphins.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker doing well at workouts    Sun May 10, 09:59 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker made several impressive catches during practice Saturday, May 9. Parker has showed fluid movement in his routes and has made several difficult catches during the rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: Nobody should be surprised by this news item. Parker is an incredibly gifted receiver with long speed, soft hands and the ability to make difficult catches seem routine. It will be interesting to see how much QB Ryan Tannehill can take that next step this season with so much improved talent around him.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker adds new dimension?    Fri May 8, 10:29 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is the type of receiver the offense has been lacking, according to former WR O.J. McDuffie. 'We don't have anybody that will go attack the football, nobody to go get it,' McDuffie said Friday, May 8. 'On 50-50 balls, he's got to be the guy right at the beginning of the season that, covered or uncovered, he's got to go up and get that ball at its high point. Right away he's got to be in the mix.'

Footballguys view: We have the feeling Parker is going to be everything for the Dolphins that Mike Wallace (Vikings) wasn't. Parker has the speed to get by the defense in the blink of an eye. He does a good job of tracking deep passes, and Parker will regularly win at the point of the catch.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller the lead back?    Thu May 7, 09:42 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is expected to be the No. 1 back heading into the 2015 season, according to The Miami Herald.

Footballguys view: He's the lead back, but we'll see rookie Jay Ajayi mixed in this season. Miller is in the final year of his contract, and this is probably his final season with the Dolphins. Ajayi has the skill set to take over as the starter in 2016.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker signs with Miami    Thu May 7, 06:14 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker signed a four-year deal worth $10.9 million Thursday, May 7. The deal includes a $6.2 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: We love this move for the Dolphins. Parker has the good speed to get open on deep routes. He has good body control and elite concentration as evidenced by his three drops since 2012. Parker can win at the point of the catch, and he does a good job of snaring passes at their highest point. Look for him to earn a starting job opposite Jarvis Landry at some point (Week 1?) in 2015.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi agrees to deal with MIA    Thu May 7, 05:20 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal Thursday, May 7.

Footballguys view: Ajayi is a supremely talented running back with the skills to impress as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. A knee injury that some reports said was bone-on-bone caused him to fall to the fifth round in the 2015 NFL draft. When healthy, Ajayi has the ability to be a three-down back and effective starter as a pro. He'll back up Lamar Miller this year, but Miller's in a contract year meaning Ajayi could be the lead man in Miami next season.

Dolphins | Branden Albert on track during rehab    Thu May 7, 05:09 PM

Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert's (knee) rehabilitation is still on course. Albert is expected to start at left tackle, barring any setbacks.

Footballguys view: This news is consistent with what we've been hearing all along about Albert's recovery. We'd imagine they take it easy on him to start training camp, but all indications point to Albert starting at left tackle in Week 1.

Dolphins | Rishard Matthews not at workouts    Thu May 7, 03:30 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews is not participating in offseason workouts and is hoping to be released or traded, according to sources. It is not known if Matthews will report for mandatory minicamp next month.

Footballguys view: It's a crowded group in Miami this year, with Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills and rookie DeVante Parker, so we understand him wanting to bail. He has almost no fantasy relevance as things stand, but has enough ability to create some points if he lands in a better position. Monitor this situation only if you're in a deep league.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker to start for Miami?    Tue May 5, 07:31 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker could start in his rookie season, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Kelly has Parker behind WR Jarvis Landry and ahead of WR Kenny Stills.

Footballguys view: We love the addition of Parker, and the Dolphins would be wise to get him into the starting lineup ASAP. Parker can fly down the field. He tracks the ball well and he does a good job of looking passes into his hands. With soft hands and elite concentration, Parker can make difficult catches seem routine. Parker could be everything that Mike Wallace (Vikings) wasn't for the Dolphins.

Dolphins | La'El Coillins to visit Miami    Mon May 4, 11:15 PM

Louisiana State OT La'El Collins will meet with the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, May 5, a day after he met with police in Louisiana. He was considered a likely first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft before he was linked to a woman who was recently murdered.

Footballguys view: Collins was not drafted, and he's free to sign with any team. He won't make what he would have as a first-round pick, so Collins should take his time to find the right fit. We don't think any team would sign Collins until he's been cleared by police in this murder.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi may have bone issue    Sun May 3, 02:39 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee) may have a potential bone on bone issue that may have contributed to his falling down some teams' draft boards.

Footballguys view: Ajayi is a supremely talented player at full strength. There was concern in the scouting community that his knee injury was the microfracture variety. If he can stay healthy, Ajayi could be a lead back for the Dolphins after Lamar Miller's time is done. Miller's in the final year of his contract, and the Dolphins have been looking for an upgrade at running back.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi selected    Sat May 2, 02:23 PM

Boise St. RB Jay Ajayi was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 149th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Ajayi had knee issues which caused him to drop. If healthy he could carry the full load and might replace Lamar Miller who is in a contract year. On the downside, he might be a 'one contract back' due to his knee, and long term the Dolphins could have to replace him in three or four years.

Dolphins | Future bright for Ryan Tannehill?    Thu Apr 30, 10:48 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is coming off his best season as a pro, and the team has added WR Kenny Stills, WR Greg Jennings, WR DeVante Parker and TE Jordan Cameron in the offseason.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have done their best to put quality weapons around Tannehill. They traded away Mike Wallace, and we could see the rookie Parker starting on the outside opposite Jarvis Landry. Now we'll see if Tannehill can take that next step and get Miami into the playoffs.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker taken by Dolphins    Thu Apr 30, 09:43 PM

Louisville WR DeVante Parker was selected 14th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins grab a player who will score a ton of touchdowns and has tremendous leaping ability. How he fits with guys like Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills is a big question. It's likely to keep his value down for a while in fantasy and he won't be more than a WR4 or WR5 until it shakes out. Also, Ryan Tannehill has zero excuses now.

Dolphins | MIA high on Breshad Perriman     Thu Apr 30, 12:30 PM

Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman is receiving a lot of interest from the Miami Dolphins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Miami has multiple wide receivers- specifically Jarvis Landry and Rishard Matthews - who are young and talented. They also added Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings this offseason. Perriman might be a first round pick, and it seems as if that position isn't a heavy need for Miami right now. They may like him more if his slips.

Dolphins | MIA interested in Chris Conley    Wed Apr 29, 11:23 PM

The Miami Dolphins are interested in University of Georgia WR Chris Conley. He did not visit the team, but that is not due to a lack of interest. For instance, WR Jarvis Landry did not visit the team last year but he was drafted by the team.

Footballguys view: Conley is a big target who can fly down the field. He tracks deep passes well, but he was asked to run the entire route tree in college at Georgia. Expect him to be a mid-round pick.

Dolphins | Kennard Backman a target for MIA    Wed Apr 29, 11:22 PM

Alabama-Birmingham TE Kennard Backman worked out privately for the Miami Dolphins during the pre-draft process and is a player the team is believed to be high on.

Footballguys view: Alabama-Birmingham folded their football program, so Backman had his pro day at Samford. He shows incredible athleticism and can be dangerous after the catch.

Dolphins | MIA shows interest in John Crockett    Wed Apr 29, 11:22 PM

The Miami Dolphins have been showing an interest in North Dakota State RB John Crockett, a player who ran for 1,994 yards last season and has been called a poor man's Eddie George.

Footballguys view: Crockett is not fast, but he runs with some pop at the point of attack. He's an upright runner, and that does make him easier to bring down. Crockett will have to lower his pad level and increase his leg drive if he wants to break tackles in the NFL like he did at North Dakota State.

Dolphins | Chris Dunkley could fill need    Wed Apr 29, 11:21 PM

The Miami Dolphins held a private pre-draft workout with University of South Florida CB Chris Dunkley, and they have worked out several skilled returners. Dunkley averaged 24 yards per kickoff and 8.5 yards per punt at USF.

Footballguys view: Dunkley was a wide receiver until last year. He switched to corner in 2014, started 10 games for the Bulls and led the team with five pass breakups. Watch for him in the late rounds of the draft.

Dolphins | Fins up on CMU's Titus Davis    Wed Apr 29, 11:20 PM

The Miami Dolphins have shown particular interested in many draftable receivers, especially Central Michigan WR Titus Davis.

Footballguys view: Davis is likely to be a late-round pick in the draft. He's a crisp route-runner who has the skill set to make plays near the sideline. Davis is not a burner, but he can work on the outside and develop into a decent starter at the pro level.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill's option picked up    Wed Apr 29, 09:09 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill had his fifth-year option picked up Wednesday, April 29, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The option is worth $16 million for 2016 and is fully guaranteed only in the event of an injury. The Dolphins plan to work out a long-term deal prior to the season opener.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker may be target for MIA    Wed Apr 29, 02:37 PM

Louisville WR DeVante Parker is receiving interest from the Miami Dolphins, and the Dolphins are believed to be looking to trade up in order to draft him. The Dolphins could look to trade with the St. Louis Rams for the 10th overall pick since the Rams are willing to trade down.

Footballguys view: Parker and Todd Gurley have both been connected to the Dolphins, but they might not be eager to trade up by stealing from their later draft after spending a third to get Kenny Stills.

Dolphins | Meet with Duke Johnson    Wed Apr 29, 03:45 AM

Miami RB Duke Johnson met with Miami Dolphins representatives Tuesday, April 28.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are rumored to be heavily interested in Todd Gurley at #14, but late buzz means he could earlier than that. Johnson would be a good fallback on the second day.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan suspended for the year    Tue Apr 28, 01:05 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan will be suspended for the entire 2015 season for another substance abuse policy violation, according to league sources. Jordan will not appeal the suspension.

Footballguys view: Word is the Eagles and the Dolphins were working on a trade that would have reunited Jordan with Chip Kelly. Now, it looks like he's going to miss the entire season. The number three pick in the 2013 NFL draft is looking like a colossal bust.

Dolphins | Miami waiting on Ryan Tannehill option    Mon Apr 27, 02:17 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's fifth-year option has yet to be picked up. The deadline for the option to be picked up is Sunday, May 3. 'Look, Ryan is here, we're excited he is here, we haven't made any decisions yet,' vice president Mike Tannenbaum said. 'We know when the deadline is and we'll make those decisions when we get there.'

Footballguys view: The Dolphins should make a move to add that extra year for Tannehill. The fifth-year option for 2016 is worth about $15 million, and that's a much cheaper option than using the franchise tag.

Dolphins | Todd Gurley drawing interest    Mon Apr 27, 02:14 AM

Georgia RB Todd Gurley is drawing plenty of interest from the Miami Dolphins, and multiple sources indicate the team may select Gurley if he is available when Miami drafts in the first round.

Footballguys view: The move would make a ton of sense. Gurley is coming off a knee injury suffered last year at Georgia, but he's expected to be ready by Week 1 of the regular season. The team already has Lamar Miller as the starter, but he's in a contract year. Gurley is far superior to Miller in our eyes, and he could take over as the starter for the team.

Dolphins | No vote of confidence for Dion Jordan    Fri Apr 24, 05:27 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan did not receive a vote of confidence from any of the front office people during their pre-draft press conference Friday, April 24. Jordan did not participate in voluntary workouts earlier in the week.

Footballguys view: Jordan has yet to fulfill the promise which had the Miami Dolphins trade up for him. In his defense, he hasn't always been used all that well, but injuries are also an issue. We'll see if he stays with the Dolphins in even a minor role.

Dolphins | MIA unsure on Ryan Tannehill extension    Fri Apr 24, 05:15 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is a player the team has not decided on if they will sign to a contract extension at this point, according to executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum.

Footballguys view: Tannehill has progressed but not at a tremendous rate. It makes sense the Dolphins aren't 100 percent sure on him yet. It may come down to risking him having a huge season to find out if he is worth the extension.

Dolphins | Miami wants Breshad Perriman, more picks    Thu Apr 23, 11:06 PM

Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman is an option for the Miami Dolphins, who are hoping to trade down in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft to land a receiver and recoup some draft assets, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Perriman would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins, even though they added veteran Greg Jennings earlier this week. We love Perriman's size/speed combination. For a big receiver, he can get off the line of scrimmage quickly and cleanly. He is likely to be a late first-round pick.

Dolphins | Mike Johnson visits Miami    Thu Apr 23, 08:48 AM

Free-agent OG Mike P. Johnson (Falcons) visited the Miami Dolphins this week.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick by the Falcons in 2010, Johnson's pro career has been derailed by injuries. Leg and foot problems have kept him out of action for the better part of two years. If healthy, he'd give the Dolphins some competition inside at guard.

Dolphins | Breshad Perriman visits    Thu Apr 23, 02:54 AM

UCF WR Breshad Perriman visited the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Even though Greg Jennings signed with the Dolphins on Wednesday, they could still be looking at a wide receiver with a premium pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Perriman plays with a great blend of size and speed. He eats cushion quickly and can take the top off the defense. He's raw as a route-runner, but Perriman is talented enough of a prospect to be a first-round pick.

Dolphins | Wes Welker even less likely for MIA    Wed Apr 22, 08:58 PM

Free agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is considered even less likely to sign with the Miami Dolphins, after Miami reportedly signed WR Greg Jennings to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Welker just isn't getting much interest on the open market. We could see him wait until after training camp injuries hit before he finds a new team. Welker isn't the player he used to be and concussion problems plagued him during his two-year stint with the Broncos.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings signs with Miami    Wed Apr 22, 06:10 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Vikings) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Jennings should get the second-most amount of snaps after Kenny Stills outside, assuming Jarvis Landry remains primarily a slot receiver. It's not a bad destination considering how much harder it will be for a wide receiver to get work after the draft.

Dolphins | Miami considering DeVante Parker?    Sat Apr 18, 10:57 PM

Louisville WR DeVante Parker is an option for the Miami Dolphins with No. 14 pick in the first-round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for more competition at the wide receiver position ever since they shipped Mike Wallace to the Vikings. Parker is a downfield threat who does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. He could come in and compete as a starter with Kenny Stills for the job opposite Jarvis Landry.

Dolphins | Miami to meet with Devin Smith    Fri Apr 17, 03:10 PM

Ohio State WR Devin X. Smith is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins before the 2015 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Smith's game is about speed, speed and more speed. His skill set is reminiscent of DeSean Jackson (Washington) because Smith can take the top off the defense with ease. He tracks the ball well over his shoulder and is a big-play threat.

Dolphins | Will meet with Byron Jones    Fri Apr 17, 03:05 PM

Connecticut CB Byron Jones is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jones will have to pass a medical check after shoulder surgery knocked him out of four games during the last part of the 2014 season. He's got a good size/speed combination, and Jones does a good job of diagnosing plays that stay in front of him. He should be a first- or second-round pick in the draft.

Dolphins | Reggie Wayne not a target for MIA    Wed Apr 15, 12:55 PM

Free-agent WR Reggie Wayne (Colts) has not received interest from the Miami Dolphins at this point.

Footballguys view: We would be shocked if Wayne latched on with a team in the near future. He's not the same player he used to be, and this is an incredibly deep group of wide receivers coming into the league via the draft this year. Wayne's playing days might be done.

Dolphins | MIA looking into Todd Gurley    Wed Apr 15, 12:51 PM

Georgia RB Todd Gurley (knee) is a draft prospect that the Miami Dolphins have studied closely leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Good--they should be interested in Gurley. His knee injury from last year could force him to miss the first six weeks of the regular season on the PUP list. The Dolphins would be able to take that risk as they have Lamar Miller as their starter. Miller's in a contract year, and there's no guarantee he'll come back for 2016. Gurley is essentially a modern version of Marshawn Lynch, and he can eventually be a superstar in the pros.

Dolphins | Benardrick McKinney visiting    Wed Apr 15, 12:50 PM

Mississippi State LB Benardrick McKinney is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: McKinney is a versatile linebacker who rushed off the edges in college in addition to cleaning up as a run-defender in the middle. He's an incredible athlete who can play from sideline-to-sideline. Even with his athleticism, coverage is a concern for McKinney. He can take false steps and bite on play-fakes, then he struggles to recover and get in the right spot. We should see him come off the board in the second round.

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon will visit with the Miami Dolphins April 22. He has already met with the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals have worked him out.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for help at the running back position behind Lamar Miller. Gordon is more of a starter than he is a backup. He has the talent to be a premiere starter in the league.
