Dolphins | Cameron Wake may see fewer snaps    Sat Jul 23, 10:32 AM

Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake could receive fewer snaps than usual in 2016 so the team can keep him fresh during the season.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Wake is only eight months removed from a torn Achilles' tendon, so the plan to keep his workload light makes a lot of sense.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker may see single coverages    Wed Jul 20, 09:45 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker could face a lot of one-on-one coverages with WR Jarvis Landry likely to command double coverage in the slot.

Footballguys view: Parker should be able to take advantage of those situations. He's an ascending player in a great offense with Adam Gase taking over for the Dolphins. We like Parker as a WR3 with upside in 2016. His current ADP is WR32 (6.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Miami didn't want to lose Arian Foster    Tue Jul 19, 10:02 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster (Achilles') impressed the team in a workout Monday, July 18, and one source said he 'looked good.' The team wanted to move quickly to sign him before he had a chance to board a flight and work out for the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: After missing out on C.J. Anderson (Broncos) and Chris Johnson (Cardinals), the Dolphins wanted to get their man....this time. Foster is set to compete with Jay Ajayi for the starting job in 2016.

Dolphins | Arian Foster plays well versus division    Tue Jul 19, 04:03 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster has fared well against the AFC East in his career. In 10 games, Foster has totaled 12 touchdowns and averaged 105 total yards per game.

Footballguys view: Cool...that's a nice bit of history but it doesn't mean Foster is going to get 100 yards and a TD every time he plays within the division. We like Foster's fit in the Adam Gase offense. The spread formations should help the veteran runner see wide rushing lanes to take advantage of. We'll have to see how the split between Foster and Jay Ajayi goes before getting too excited about either prospect.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake likely to be No. 3    Mon Jul 18, 10:01 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake is likely to be slotted No. 3 on the depth chart behind RBs Jay Ajayi and Arian Foster unless the team keeps four backs to include RB Damien Williams. He had some moments in the offseason program, but not enough to suggest he was ready to be a reliable No. 2 back, thus the signing of Foster. Head coach Adam Gase wants a back capable of playing all three downs, because he prefers to substitute backs for an entire series, instead of during a series.

Footballguys view: Drake is a speedy rookie, and a player we are quite interested in for all of our dynasty teams. He has good foot frequency, and Drake has the ability to create his own space with deceptive speed and quickness. He's not the biggest back, but he's a willing inside runner. Even though he won't push the pile, we like Drake's ability to turn small holes into large gains. We'll see if he can translate his game to the pros. Think of him like a Ronnie-Hillman-plus player in the Gase system.

Dolphins | Damien Williams is hardest hit    Mon Jul 18, 10:00 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Damien Williams was the hardest hit by the addition of RB Arian Foster, as Williams slips from No. 2 to likely No. 3 on the depth chart with the potential to not even make the team unless they keep four backs. That's because RB Kenyan Drake figures to be No. 3 on the depth chart even if Williams is kept.

Footballguys view: There's just not going to be much there for Williams if he makes the 53-man roster. We see a RBBC with Foster and Ajayi as the top two backs. Drake is a speedy player who could be used in a change-of-pace role.

Dolphins | Arian Foster declares his health    Mon Jul 18, 10:00 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster (Achilles') said Monday, July 18, that he is fully healthy after suffering a ruptured Achilles' tendon last season. He said he still feels like a Pro Bowl-caliber player and intends to show that. 'I don't have any expectations. Just coming here to compete and help the squad out however I can,' Foster said.

Footballguys view: Foster may not be the player he used to be, but he could win the starting job for the Dolphins. Even if he's the starter, we feel the Dolphins should mix in Jay Ajayi to help keep Foster fresh. The Adam Gase offense utilizes spread formations, so Foster--or any RB--is going to have large rushing lanes to take advantage of.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan looks rejuvenated    Mon Jul 18, 09:59 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan has had an impressive offseason and looks like a 'brand new' player, according to a source. However, he is still yet to be reinstated. Training camp begins Monday, July 29.

Footballguys view: If Jordan can finally start playing up to his potential, it would be a great boost for the Dolphins defense. He's not yet been officially reinstated by the league, but Jordan's agent expects that to happen before the start of training camp. Jordan could give the Dolphins a much-needed jolt to their pass rush if he's truly a new man.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi still likely to start    Mon Jul 18, 06:26 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is expected to enter training camp as the starting running back, in the opinion of The Palm Beach Post's Andrew Abramson.

Footballguys view: We're not so sure that's going to be the case, but Ajayi should get the first shot at the top job. The Dolphins have done almost everything they possibly could to add more talent to the RB position, and Ajayi will now have to beat out veteran addition Arian Foster for the starting gig. If healthy, Foster's starting experience and natural skill set would be a perfect fit for the Adam Gase offense. Watch this battle in training camp.

Dolphins | Arian Foster contract details    Mon Jul 18, 05:08 PM

Dolphins | Arian Foster joins Miami    Mon Jul 18, 04:32 PM

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans) signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins Monday, July 18, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Clearly, we'll see soon enough how Foster is progressing. Jay Ajayi has been projected to be the RB1 here but the team has made it clear they'd like to have help. The Dolphins lost Lamar Miller this offseason and missed on C.J. Anderson who stayed with Denver. Chris Johnson was also a target of theirs before he decided to stay with the Cardinals. A healthy Foster clearly is trouble for Ajayi. Although "healthy" is an adjective we haven't used with Foster a lot in the last year. Stay tuned as we like this move for Foster and for the Dolphins.

Dolphins | Miami interested in signing Arian Foster    Sun Jul 17, 11:12 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans) is expected to work out for the Miami Dolphins Monday, July 18, and Miami will seriously consider signing Foster if his workout goes well.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have been looking everywhere for RB help. They signed C.J. Anderson (Broncos) to an offer sheet earlier this year and they considered signing Chris Johnson (Cardinals) too, but neither back wound up in South Beach. Enter Foster, the seasoned veteran who could step in and start from day one. The addition of Foster would negatively impact the fantasy value of current starter Jay Ajayi.

Dolphins | MarQueis Gray working on blocking    Sun Jul 17, 11:06 PM

Miami Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray said he is focusing on strengthening his upper body in order to enhance his ability as a blocker and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Gray is an athletic freak, but he's bounced around to five different teams since coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2013. We like his natural skill set, but it just seems like he's never going to do enough to stick no matter where he lands.

Dolphins | Arian Foster working out for Miami    Sun Jul 17, 09:19 PM

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans) is scheduled to work out for the Miami Dolphins Monday, July 18, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins interest in Foster puts a damper on the fantasy value of Jay Ajayi. They have looked everywhere for additional RB help, and it just doesn't show a lot of confidence in Ajayi at the moment. If healthy, Foster could start for the Dolphins and relegate Ajayi to his backup. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Mixed review for Thomas Duarte     Fri Jul 15, 09:27 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Thomas Duarte has impressed head coach Adam Gase with his skills as a receiver, but Gase said he will have to wait until padded practices in training camp to gauge his skills as a blocker.

Footballguys view: A super-sized WR, Duarte has drawn comparisons in the scouting community to Jordan Reed (Washington). Fantasy owners certainly need to monitor his progress...especially in the Gase (super TE-friendly) system. He's the Dolphins third-string TE behind starter Jordan Cameron and primary backup Dion Sims.

Dolphins | Kiko Alonso open to playing TE    Thu Jul 14, 12:14 AM

Miami Dolphins LB Kiko Alonso (knee) said his knee is 100 percent recovered, and the coaching staff saw him in minicamp to confirm this was true. He also played tight end in high school, and feels he has something to contribute on offense. 'We have good tight ends in Miami, 'he said, 'but if the Dolphins need me for a specific play, I can move on that side of the ball. I've already told the coaches that if they want me out there in a goal-line situation, I'm ready to jump into the field. I have some specific plays at hand, but I won't reveal them.'

Dolphins | Wes Welker could play again    Tue Jul 12, 07:55 PM

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) said there is a small percentage that he could play in the NFL again, but it would have to be the right situation and team. He would need just two to three weeks to get ready.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine Welker playing again. Injuries, specifically concussions, are a huge concern with the veteran wideout. Add in the fact that he's not quite what he once was, and you can see why we think Welker's days in the NFL are done.

Dolphins | Billy Turner still the right guard    Tue Jul 12, 06:33 PM

Miami Dolphins OG Billy Turner remained the starting right guard during minicamp. Turner did also receive work at tackle, however, and OT Jermon Bushrod (shoulder) will be Turner's primary competition for the starting right guard position once he is medically cleared from offseason shoulder surgery.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo a coach favorite?    Sun Jul 10, 08:07 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo received first-team repetitions during minicamp and was head coach Adam Gase's first-hand selection in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Rutgers product is a favorite of our dynasty staff. Carroo missed four games in 2015 due to a high-ankle sprain and a suspension, but when he's on the field he can be consistently productive. His ability to get open--and get vertical--is apparent in his whopping 19.38 average yards-before-contact-per-reception. That is well above the FBS average of 11.41 yards, and ranked 5th for all WRs with 35 receptions or more in 2015. He may be behind Kenny Stills as the Dolphins No.3 WR entering training camp, but don't be shocked if (when?) Carroo passes the veteran.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker fully healthy    Thu Jul 7, 06:19 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) is at full health and will likely be pushed harder in training camp than he was during offseason activities.

Footballguys view: Parker is expected to take over the X position in Adam Gase's offense. You might remember another guy who had great production in that role - Demaryius Thomas. We don't see Parker as Thomas by a long shot, but WR3 numbers with upside? Absolutely.

Dolphins | Miami offense to move quickly    Tue Jul 5, 07:44 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and the Miami offense plan to move more quickly and get more snaps per game this season. Additionally, offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said the fastest, quickest way for the Dolphins to improve is on third downs and in the red zone. Miami converted just 30.7% of their third downs last season -- third worst in the NFL. Christensen said the up-tempo style should result in more red-zone snaps.

Footballguys view: New head coach Adam Gase has a proven track record of having high-powered offenses, and we expect in Miami things will be the same. That's why we like the value presented in guys like QB Ryan Tannehill, WR Jarvis Landry, WR DeVante Parker and TE Jordan Cameron. The Dolphins should attack opponents through the air early and often, and fantasy owners should be intrigued over the potential of this passing game.

Dolphins | Dallas Thomas could beat Laremy Tunsil    Tue Jul 5, 07:50 AM

Miami Dolphins OG Dallas Thomas could beat out OL Laremy Tunsil, the team's first-round draft pick, for the starting left-guard job.

Footballguys view: Reports this offseason indicate the rookie first-round pick struggled in his transition from tackle to guard. Thomas isn't going to remind anyone of Robert Gallery, so the fact that Tunsil couldn't look better during OTAs and minicamp is a bit concerning. We're excited about the Dolphins offense, but their O-Line would greatly benefit if Tunsil can start at guard and play up to his potential.

Dolphins | Rookie RB Kenyan Drake should be ready for camp    Sun Jul 3, 09:07 PM

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said he expects rookie RB Kenyan Drake to be "ready to go" for the start of training camp after suffering a hamstring injury in June minicamp.

Footballguys view: The rookie from Alabama has the speed to be a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. It will be interesting to see if he can be more than a change-of-pace back behind projected starter Jay Ajayi. The Dolphins should have a high-powered offense in 2016, and having a speedy back like Drake seems to fit.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo may see playing time    Sun Jul 3, 05:01 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo probably will receive playing time in 2016 as long as he continues to impress during training camp.

Footballguys view: The third-round pick out of Rutgers is one of the most intriguing rookie WRs in this draft class. Carroo had a whopping 79.5 percent of his receptions go for a TD or a first down in 2015 (by comparison, the average in the FBS was 60.3 percent). His 13.98 air-yards-per-target average was a result of Rutger's play-action passing and not due to Carroo's speed. He's savvy on long routes with the ball in the air but he can struggle to get vertical against faster CBs. Carroo could win the WR3 job behind Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker on a Dolphins team that should have a strong passing attack under new head coach Adam Gase.

Dolphins | Two tight ends competing for spot    Sun Jul 3, 03:10 PM

Miami Dolphins TEs Thomas Duarte and Jake Stoneburner will be competing for a spot on the final roster, assuming the Dolphins only keep three tight ends.

Footballguys view: Stoneburber was an interesting super deep dynasty prospect back when he was with the Green Bay Packers. He's athletic but has yet to play up to his physical potential as a pro. Duarte was a seventh-round pick out of UCLA this year for the Dolphins. The rookie is a converted WR who can be a matchup nightmare if used correctly. There are some in the scouting community who compared Duarte's upside to that of Jordan Reed (Washington)...and that's something that certainly has our attention in deep dynasty leagues. We believe the Dolphins passing attack is going to be great with new head coach Adam Gase, and the TE position is quite important in his system. If Jordan Cameron doesn't perform up to expectations, Duarte has the ability to be more than roster depth.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo to shed weight    Thu Jun 23, 01:18 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo made a favorable impressive on the coaching staff during the team's offseason program. He said Wednesday, June 22, that his first priority is losing weight. 'I'm 217 now, trying to get down to 210,' Carroo said. 'You become faster when you shed some pounds. I don't have any bad weight on me. That's what I was at the combine. Why not be as fast and explosive as I can be?'

Footballguys view: Carroo is a rugged receiver with speed who could push Kenny Stills for playing time by the end of the season. DeVante Parker has had a history of foot issues, so Carroo could also see more playing time if Parker struggles to stay healthy. Keep him on your rookie redraft waiver wire watch list.

Dolphins | Adam Gase pushing Ryan Tannehill    Wed Jun 22, 10:18 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has a new head coach in Adam Gase, and the man in charge is trying to extract more from his signal caller. Gase's approach - besides extremely detailed teaching - also includes pushing Tannehill to his limits but also giving him more freedom than he has ever had. 'I put a lot on (Tannehill's) plate. It's almost to the point where it's probably too much this fast. I want to see where the breaking point is. He's been doing a good job of responding,' Gase said last week.

Footballguys view: Tannehill has a chance to take another step with a head coach that got great football out of Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler at much later junctures in their careers. Clyde Christensen is the offensive coordinator and also a quarterback-centric coach. The Dolphins don't have much proven in the running game, but they have a good array of targets and Tannehill. He is going outside of the top 15, and sometimes outside of the top 20, making Tannehill part of the deepest fantasy quarterback class we have ever seen.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill's accuracy needs work    Sat Jun 18, 08:25 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill had had some issues with ball placement and wasn't on the same page as his receivers at times during OTAs, head coach Adam Gase said.

Footballguys view: That's going to take some time, but the Dolphins have the time upcoming in training camp. We're excited about the Miami passing game under Gase, so we'll be monitoring Tannehill's progress closely.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi could catch more passes    Sat Jun 18, 03:08 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he's been working on new routes, acknowledging that head coach Adam Gase's offensive system implements the running backs more in the passing game. Ajayi said he didn't have as many routes last year as he does this year.

Footballguys view: Ajayi came out of Boise State and was known as a fine all-purpose back. His last year in college (2014), Ajayi caught 50 passes for 535 yards and four TDs. He should be used more as a receiver...and likely as the team's primary ball-carrier in 2016. We'll see how rookie Kenyan Drake mixes in as a change-of-pace back. Ajayi should be considered a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB24 (5.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi to work on pass catching    Fri Jun 17, 05:38 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he will work on improving his route running and his pass catching skills during the next month.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have been looking for an upgrade at the RB position most of the offseason. They added Kenyan Drake in the 2016 NFL draft, but he may only be a change-of-pace back behind Ajayi. Coming out of Boise State, Ajayi was seen as an all-purpose back so improving his ability as a receiver shouldn't be that difficult. We see him as a low-end RB2 or RB3 for fantasy owners this year.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake will be ready for camp    Thu Jun 16, 05:21 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) will still be ready for training camp after being injured in practice Wednesday, June 16.

Footballguys view: Drake has the raw ability to be a starter but he needs to learn the finer points of technique if he's going to ever get that job. He also goes down a bit too easily. Right now he's on kickoff and punt returns, and though he might see some work as a receiver, we are not expecting to have an impact in fantasy leagues this year barring injuries ahead of him.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake injured Wednesday    Wed Jun 15, 12:22 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) injured his right hamstring during a special teams drill Wednesday, June 15, and is walking with a limp.

Footballguys view: The Alabama rookie could push for the second spot behind Jay Ajayi, but not if he isn't practicing. He was slated for special teams and return work, which is why he was out there. Like many rookies, he may not quite be as well conditioned as he could be after all the draft prep.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker returns    Wed Jun 15, 10:51 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) returned to practice Wednesday, June 15.

Footballguys view: Parker could be poised for a breakout season as he moves to the X-spot in the offense, a place that is highly productive in Adam Gase's world. We're currently seeing his ADP at 57 (WR27) overall, and think that could climb. He's tracking as a WR3 and has the upside for more in this system.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker to return Wednesday    Tue Jun 14, 03:16 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) will return to practice Wednesday, June 15, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Parker can have a huge season for the Dolphins this year as he'll play the "X" receiver in Gase's offense. That's a role where guys like Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) and Alshon Jeffery (Bears) have put up fantastic numbers under Gase. Parker has a current ADP of WR31 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, and that's a position he could easily outperform in 2016.

Dolphins | Reshad Jones likely to skip camp    Mon Jun 13, 11:50 AM

Miami Dolphins SS Reshad Jones' holdout is expected to continue through mandatory minicamp, and he's subject to fines.

Footballguys view: Jones wants a raise, but he's on the books for two more years with about $14 million in earnings combined. Reports indicate he's looking for a contract that pays him near $10 million annually. Things could get ugly here, and free-agent safeties Louis Delmas (Dolphins) and Antrel Rolle (Bears) will be considered if Jones continues to hold out.

Dolphins | Miami to consider two safeties    Sun Jun 12, 01:54 PM

Free-agent FSs Louis Delmas (Dolphins) and Antrel Rolle (Bears) will be considered by the Miami Dolphins if SS Reshad Jones continues to hold out, or if there is an injury at the position.

Footballguys view: Jones isn't set to be a free agent until 2018, and he's got a cap number of $7.2 million this season. Reports indicate Jones is seeking a new deal that would pay him around $10 million a year. Good luck with that. Delmas and Rolle haven't received a ton of interest on the open market, but either one would work.   Dolphins | Big season on tap for Jarvis Landry?    Sat Jun 11, 08:38 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will take his game to 'another level' this season, according to head coach Adam Gase, who plans to put Landry in a position to make more big plays.

Footballguys view: We can't wait to see this Dolphins passing game in 2016. Landry should catch over 100 passes again (111 last year), but his TDs and yardage could increase in the high-powered Gase system. He could outperform his current ADP of WR15 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry has been working out with Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. in order to develop the footwork and feel to play outside receiver.

Footballguys view: Landry and Beckham were teammates in college at LSU, so they've been around each other quite a bit. We're super excited about the Dolphins offense with new head coach Adam Gase running the show. Landry is a high-end WR2 with the upside to finish the season as a WR1 for fantasy owners...especially those in PPR leagues. His current ADP is WR15 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Footballguys view: We're excited about the Dolphins passing game with head coach Adam Gase running the show. Tannehill could put up career-best numbers in 2016 and fantasy owners need to take note. He could easily outperform his current ADP of QB21 (13.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Damien Williams hasn't had chance    Wed Jun 8, 02:27 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Damien Williams (undisclosed) has been sidelined during minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. Williams appears to be behind RB Kenyan Drake in the race for the backup job behind RB Jay Ajayi. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said he has been unable to judge Williams due to his injury.

Footballguys view: Williams needs to get healthy--and quick--if he wants to make the 53-man roster. The team may also add more RB talent via free agency before training camp starts, thus further cramping the depth chart.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake continues to shine    Wed Jun 8, 02:26 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake has impressive during spring drills. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said Drake 'has been excellent,' and Drake said he is more prepared for the NFL after learning different formations and other intricacies from Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. Drake remains the frontrunner to serve as the backup to RB Jay Ajayi.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised that Drake is impressing this offseason. He impressed on film at Alabama as a backup behind Derrick Henry, and he impressed earlier this year during the week of practice for the Reese's Senior Bowl. Drake is a speedy back who isn't afraid to run inside. He can rip off big runs with ease, and has the big-play ability fantasy owners will love. However, he may not be built to be more than a change-of-pace back at the pro level.

Dolphins | Miami not pursuing Arian Foster    Wed Jun 8, 02:25 AM

The Miami Dolphins aren't pursuing free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans), who visited the team earlier this spring. The team will consider him if they have an injury or if their young running backs struggle. Foster is still working his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered Oct. 25 with the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Foster could probably pass a physical right now, and there are a small handful of teams (including the Dolphins) that have already reached out to the veteran back. The Dolphins may not add Foster right now, but he's always an option for them so long as he's out there. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Dan Herron not offered deal    Wed Jun 8, 02:24 AM

Free-agent RB Dan Herron (Colts) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins Monday, June 6, without a contract offer. However, he remains on the radar should the team determine it needs help at the position.

Footballguys view: Herron is on their list if they want to add more RB depth. Even if he's added, we can't see him being a fantasy-relevant player.
