Dolphins | Kiko Alonso could move to OLB    Tue Jan 17, 12:21 PM

Dolphins LB Kiko Alonso, the team's leading tackler in 2016, may be asked to switch from middle linebacker to outside linebacker in order to give the team more flexibility in the draft and free agency.

Footballguys view: That's a wise move for many reasons. It's a move that gives the team personnel flexibility, but it also could keep Alonso healthier as he won't be as heavily relied on as a run-stopper.

Dolphins | Reshad Jones' contract a priority    Fri Jan 13, 12:02 PM

Miami Dolphins S Reshad Jones (shoulder) appeared in a career-low six games in 2016 after suffering a significant rotator cuff injury in October, but the team is expected to make a contract extension - his deal expires at the end of next season - a priority in the offseason.

Footballguys view: Jones held out for a bit last year to get a new contract, but it turned up nothing. The Dolphins know what they have in Jones when healthy, and we think the two sides should be able to work something out this year.

Dolphins | Jordan Cameron wants to keep playing    Thu Jan 12, 12:55 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent TE Jordan Cameron (concussion) plans to continue his playing career even though he has a history of concussions. The Dolphins are not expected to re-sign Cameron this offseason.

Footballguys view: Well, at least he has the information to make an informed decision, though we wonder how many teams will take on the risk. Cameron is very talented, but concussed far too much.

Dolphins | Coach wants Dion Sims back    Thu Jan 12, 12:51 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent TE Dion Sims said head coach Adam Gase told him that he wants Sims to re-sign with the Dolphins and that Sims would be the starting tight end. 'He told me he wants me back as a No. 1,' Sims said. 'I want to be back. I have obviously proven myself to be a starting tight end in the league and want to continue in that role. I've done some great things this year and improved a lot.'

Footballguys view: Sims has been sporadically useful in fantasy but with the host of other weapons in Miami, his role will never be all that huge, even as the "Number 1."

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill may need surgery    Wed Jan 11, 02:29 PM

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase did not rule out the possibility of QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) undergoing major knee surgery during the offseason.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are going to monitor Tannehill closely. Even though he was very limited in practice last week, it might be better for him to go under the knife and spend the offseason recovering. Gase said the trainers are still evaluating Tannehill's injury.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill still being evaluated    Wed Jan 11, 01:39 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is still 'going through the process' of having his knee evaluated to determine whether surgery is the proper course of action, according to Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: This shouldn't set off alarms for fantasy owners. They're just looking further into his injury to make sure there are no setbacks.

The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Storm Johnson and QB Brandon Doughty and signed free-agents RB Senorise Perry (Bears) and TE Chris Pantale (Eagles) to Reserve/Future contracts Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Footballguys view: A seventh-round pick this year for the Dolphins, Doughty is an interesting developmental quarterback. He's smart and accurate when given time to throw. Doughty doesn't have a plus-arm, but he throws with great anticipation and understands complex defenses.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan done in Miami?    Sun Jan 8, 10:14 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan won't be back with the team next season, according to beat writer Armando Salguero.

Footballguys view: Too bad Chip Kelly isn't still in the league as he'd find a spot for the former Oregon Duck. Jordan was a top-5 pick in the 2013 NFL draft, and he's not been on the field since 2014. More 'issues' with Jordan means the team is finally going to move on.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker has solid game    Sun Jan 8, 04:52 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker caught four passes for 55 yards in the Wild Card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick in 2015, Parker built off what he flashed during his rookie season. He finished 2016 with 56 catches, 744 receiving yards and four touchdowns. As head coach Adam Gase continues to build that team, Parker should see his role continue to increase. We'll see if he can take another step forward in 2017.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills finishes with 82 yards    Sun Jan 8, 04:44 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills caught five passes for 82 yards in the Wild Card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: Stills had one of the longest catches of the day for the Dolphins, hauling in a 36-yard reception to boost his numbers. He's headed into free agency after providing the Dolphins with a big-play boost in 2016. Stills was targeted 81 times (nearly a career high), caught 42 passes for 726 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Some team will add him with perhaps a larger role than a no.3 wideout in 2017.

Dolphins | Jarvis Landry surpasses 100-yard mark    Sun Jan 8, 04:37 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry caught 11 passes for 102 yards in the Wild Card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: Landry was able to find space against the Steelers zone, especially as the Dolphins were forced into comeback mode early. He's a valuable asset for the Dolphins offense under head coach Adam Gase, and fantasy owners can look to Landry as a consistent WR2 in PPR leagues. He's more of a WR3 in standard-scoring leagues as Landry isn't exactly a touchdown scoring machine (four TDs each of the last two years).

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi held in check    Sun Jan 8, 04:28 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi rushed for 33 yards on 16 carries in the Wild Card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also caught three passes for 12 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: The Steelers had a plan for Ajayi this time around. Part of the plan was boosted by the Steelers offense putting points on the board quickly and forcing Miami to abandon the run. Finishing as the 11th-best fantasy RB in standard-scoring leagues, Ajayi had 1,272 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns this year. He should be in for a larger workload from Week 1 in 2017 as the centerpiece of the Dolphins offense.

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he understands that a productive run game will be key if Miami is going to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, Jan. 8.

Footballguys view: The last time these two teams faced, Ajayi had a monster game and rushed for over 200 yards. The Dolphins best chance to win resides on his shoulders, so expect Ajayi to carry a big load on Sunday...and expect the Steelers to be ready for that.
