Dolphins | Danny Amendola on outs in Miami? Fri Feb 8, 01:41 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Danny Amendola may be released in Miami due to his $6 million salary, and a return to the New England Patriots would be a likely destination if that happens.
|Footballguys view: Zero surprise on either one of these speculations in this report. The Dolphins could easily move on from Amendola as they're set to basically tank in 2019. The Patriots don't have a ton of salary cap space at this time but would likely welcome Amendola back to the fold.|

Dolphins | Brian Flores deal done with Miami Mon Feb 4, 10:06 AM
Updating an earlier report, New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores will have a 4 p.m. press conference to be introduced as the Miami Dolphins' head coach.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins just had to wait for the Patriots playoff run to end before they could make the hiring of Flores official. Flores is coming off a Super Bowl victory where his defense pretty much dismantled and disgruntled the Rams offense. There's a lot to do with the Dolphins in order to make them contenders and it seems like the team is going to tank in 2019 so they can get a better draft pick (for a quarterback) in 2020.|

Dolphins | No takers for Ryan Tannehill? Fri Feb 1, 12:28 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is expected to be released during the offseason, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, who believes the chances of the team finding a trading partner for Tannehill are 'not great' due to his contract.
|Footballguys view: Cincinnati could be a possible destination, as could Washington or maybe even Jacksonville. Tannehill should get at least one more chance to start, or at least compete with a rookie to start this year.|

Dolphins | Miami eyeing 2020 for QB Thu Jan 31, 01:11 AM
The Miami Dolphins are high on QBs Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) and Justin Herbert (Oregon), according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, who believes the team will not splurge in free agency or select a quarterback in the early rounds this year while angling for a high pick in the 2020 draft.
|Footballguys view: There's some speculation that Jake Rudock could start for the team at quarterback. Look for the Dolphins to unload high-priced veterans this offseason and make moves more for the long term after many fruitless years of win now moves.|
Dolphins | Xavien Howard not fazed by chatter Wed Jan 30, 02:37 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard said he's not worried about any trade rumors swirling around as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract. 'It is what it is,' Howard said. 'It's a business. Be prepared for it. Wherever I go, it don't matter; I'm still going to be busting my butt.' Howard was tied for the league-lead in interceptions in 2018 with seven. If Howard is signed to a long-term extension, he could see at least $14 million per year.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins have the look of a team that will be tanking in 2019 to get one of the top quarterbacks in 2020. Trading Howard before he breaks the bank on a new deal to recoup more picks for rebuilding could fit that modus operandi.|

Dolphins | Miami adding more coaches Tue Jan 29, 04:47 PM
Former Buffalo Bills special teams coordinator Danny Crossman, former Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach George Godsey and former New York Jets wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell are expected to be hired by the Miami Dolphins, according to a source. Crossman and Dorrell will serve in the same capacity, while Godsey will serve as tight ends coach.
|Footballguys view: Godsey has some experience on the Patriots staff and should fit in well with presumptive offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea, who he worked with 2011-13.|
Dolphins | Miami makes front office moves Tue Jan 29, 04:07 PM
Former Buffalo Bills national scout Marvin Z. Allen officially joined the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, Jan. 29, as assistant general manager. The Dolphins also announced the following promotions: Ron Brockington to senior national scout, J.P. Correia to player personnel scout, Adam Engroff and Anthony Hunt to co-directors of player personnel, Brandon Shore to vice president of football administration and Matt Winston to assistant director of college scouting. They will all report to general manager Chris Grier.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins will likely be undergoing a team-wide rebuilding project and possibly angling for a big name college quarterback in the draft next year. This group will be doing a lot of dirty work to help turn this franchise around in the upcoming offseasons.|
Dolphins | Ja'Wuan James may test market Mon Jan 28, 07:18 PM
Miami Dolphins impending free-agent OT Ja'Wuan James said he is looking forward to free agency this offseason.
|Footballguys view: James is far from an elite talent, but with Bobby Massie locked up by the Bears, he's one of the few options available for teams looking for a starter at tackle in free agency. He'll get paid this offseason.|
Dolphins | Miami hires two assistants Mon Jan 28, 02:10 PM
New York Giants outside linebackers coach Robbie Leonard and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach Marion Hobby have reportedly agreed to join prospective new head coach Brian Flores' coaching staff with the Miami Dolphins in undisclosed capacities, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Hobby played for the Patriots, but otherwise the duo has no connection to New England. Patrick Graham is in line to go from the Patriots staff to being the Dolphins defensive coordinator under Flores.|
Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill looking at pay cut? Thu Jan 24, 02:58 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill could face a contract restructure in the form of a pay cut this offseason, but the Dolphins still face $13.4 million in dead cap with Tannehill, according to Spotrac.
|Footballguys view: Tannehill has a cap hit of $26 million in 2019 and half of that (approximately) is dead money. He's a candidate to be released or traded but we can't imagine anyone having a ton of interest in the veteran passer.|

Dolphins | Miami to meet with QBs at Senior Bowl Wed Jan 23, 07:12 PM
West Virginia QB Will Grier, Missouri QB Drew Lock, Duke QB Daniel Jones and Washington State Gardner Minshew are all scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins during the Senior Bowl this week.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins may be moving on from Ryan Tannehill this offseason. Even if they keep Tannehill as their starter, they are likely to search for their next quarterback. Grier played in the 'Air Raid' system in college and can deliver the ball accurately and on time, drawing comparisons to Andy Dalton when Dalton came out of TCU years ago. We'll see if any of these guys would be worthy of the Dolphins first-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft.|
Dolphins | Miami could wait on Xavien Howard extension Wed Jan 23, 05:48 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard is going into the final year of his rookie contract and awaits a contract extension. The Dolphins could wait for him to play out the year before potentially extending his contract, however, in the opinion of The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
|Footballguys view: The main reason being Howard has an extensive injury history and Miami may want to make sure he can stay healthy in 2019 before offering him big money. Howard was tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2018 (7) but has missed 13 games over his three-year career. He will cost $1.95 million against the salary cap this season.|

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (hip) is on schedule with his recovery from an October hip injury that landed him on IR and could be at full speed when the team's offseason workout program begins in April.

Dolphins | Dowell Loggains given free reign Tue Jan 22, 10:44 AM
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been granted permission to speak with other teams, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins are revamping their coaching staff, with Patriots LB coach Brian Flores likely to be named head coach after the Super Bowl. Flores will build a new staff on offense that is unlikely to include Loggains. He's expected to join the New York Jets as offensive coordinator and reconnect with former Dolphins head coach (and new Jets head coach) Adam Gase.|
Dolphins | Patrick Graham likely the DC Mon Jan 21, 09:15 AM
Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Patrick Graham is likely to be hired as defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins when New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is hired as head coach.
|Footballguys view: Once the Patriots are done playing in yet another Super Bowl, we will see Flores hired as the Dolphins new head coach. Graham worked with Flores in New England from 2009-2015.|
Dolphins | Miami eyeing RB in draft? Fri Jan 18, 10:29 PM
Iowa State RB David Montgomery could be a target for the Miami Dolphins in the 2019 NFL Draft, according to Antwan Staley of DolphinsWire. Staley believes Montgomery's aggressive running style would fill the hole left behind when RB Frank Gore hits free agency in March.
|Footballguys view: Montgomery is aggressive but he's light on his feet and does a good job of fighting for yards after contact. In 2018, Montgomery rushed for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns. Pro Football Focus reports Montgomery led the FBS in broken tackles in back-to-back seasons. His 40 carries of 10 yards or more ranked 10th in the FBS in 2018 and Montgomery is seen as a top-5 player at his position in the 2019 NFL draft.|

Buffalo Bills national scout Marvin Z. Allen is set to become the assistant general manager of the Miami Dolphins soon, according to league sources.Link to story
Dolphins | Jim Caldwell joining Dolphins staff Mon Jan 14, 09:42 AM
Former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is expected to join the Miami Dolphins' staff, but he may not join as offensive coordinator.
|Footballguys view: Caldwell has a ton of experience which should come in handy for Brian Flores (who is set to be their new head coach). We should see Caldwell in some sort of advisory role with the Dolphins adding a younger coordinator too.|
Dolphins | Miami signs Jake Rudock Sat Jan 12, 01:51 AM
The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent QB Jake Rudock (Lions) to a Reserve/Future contract Friday, Jan. 11.
|Footballguys view: Rudock has spent most of his time in the pros with the Lions. A sixth-round pick out of Michigan in the 2016 NFL draft (Lions), Rudock is tough, plays with heart but lacks a starter's skill set. He's likely just a camp arm for the Dolphins and whatever direction they go in for 2019.|

Dolphins | Vic Fangio not meeting with Miami Mon Jan 7, 10:18 AM
Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will not be interviewing for the Miami Dolphins' head coaching vacancy as previously reported.
|Footballguys view: Vangio is meeting with the Broncos on Monday. That's the only team that is interviewing him for a head coaching job.|
Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill expected to be shopped Fri Jan 4, 07:51 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is expected to be shopped to other teams this offseason.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins will eat over 13 million in cap space whether they trade or release Tannehill, but they can get some draft compensation if they find a taker. He's due 18.725 million, so he'll only get traded if someone sees him as a starter.|

Dolphins | Eric Bieniemy meeting with Miami Fri Jan 4, 11:33 AM
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is interviewing with the Miami Dolphins for their head coaching vacancy Friday, Jan. 4.

Dolphins | Vic Fangio to interview with Miami Tue Jan 1, 10:41 AM
Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will interview with the Miami Dolphins Monday, Jan. 7, for their head coaching vacancy.
|Footballguys view: Fangio is also going to interview for the Broncos head coaching vacancy. He's been coaching for over 30 years but has never had a chance to be a head coach. With so much interest in the veteran coach, this might be the year he finally gets a shot.|
Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill unlikely to return Mon Dec 31, 07:39 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is expected to be released or traded this offseason.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins have a new regime taking over in 2018 with the front office restructured and head coach Adam Gase fired. Tannehill has two years left on his contract and a cap number in 2019 of $26.6 million. There is $13.4 million in dead money remaining on his deal, but it just might be time for the team to move on from the 2012 first-round pick who has failed to produce at the expected level.|

Dolphins | DeVante Parker not expected back Mon Dec 31, 07:31 PM
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is expected to be released this offseason. The team would save $9.4 million salary cap space if they cut Parker.
|Footballguys view: Parker had his fifth-year option picked up by the Dolphins but it's only guaranteed for injury. They can back out of that decision and let Parker hit the open market. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, Parker had only 24 catches for 309 yards and one touchdown in 2018.|

Dolphins | Miami shakes up front office Mon Dec 31, 12:28 PM
Miami Dolphins executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum has been reassigned to another undisclosed position within the organization.
|Footballguys view: Reports around the team create speculation about a power struggle in Miami that now sees Tannenbaum reassigned and head coach Adam Gase fired. General manager Chris Grier has been promoted to oversee football operations.|
Dolphins | Adam Gase fired Mon Dec 31, 09:49 AM
Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was fired Monday, Dec. 31, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: It's a somewhat surprising move for the Dolphins. There was a power struggle in the front office that is now reshuffled and Gase is now looking for a job. A majority of teams with coaching vacancies have already reached out to Gase. He should land on his feet in the near future.|

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills had three grabs for 27 yards on seven targets in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills and he tossed a three-yard touchdown back to QB Ryan Tannehill.
