Dolphins | Brandon Doughty could make cut    Wed Aug 24, 02:40 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Brandon Doughty has done a solid job in the preseason and could be hard to sneak through waivers, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. That, plus Matt Moore's (concussion) injury, could lead to Doughty getting a spot on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: A six-year player at Western Kentucky, Doughty is a smart passer who can distribute the ball accurately on underneath routes. He doesn't have a strong arm, but Doughty throws with good anticipation and generally understands where to go with the ball based on the coverage he's facing. Doughty is a dynasty prospect we're watching in deeper leagues.

Dolphins | Cameron Wake might play Friday    Wed Aug 24, 12:48 AM

Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') will go through pre-game workouts on Thursday, Aug. 25, according to head coach Adam Gase and will be a game-time decision against the Atlanta Falcons.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake back at practice    Tue Aug 23, 12:49 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Footballguys view: The rookie could find his way onto the field as a change-of-pace back for the Dolphins this year. Drake is a speedy back, but he's a straight-line guy who isn't going to break ankles in the open field. He's a dynasty prospect we're keeping an eye on in case he can prove to be more than a part-time player as a pro.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill making progress    Tue Aug 23, 12:45 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said Monday, Aug. 22, that he is feeling more comfortable every day in the new offense, and he expects the offense will play a lot more fast as the regular season gets closer.

Footballguys view: Tannehill should be able to thrive in the Adam Gase offense. We like adding him as a QB2 in your fantasy leagues. This might be the year that Tannehill finally starts playing up to his potential.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi excited about more time    Tue Aug 23, 12:44 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said Monday, Aug. 22, he and his teammates are preparing for the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 25, like it is a regular season game and he is looking forward to the extra time on the field.

Footballguys view: Ajayi is almost an afterthought on the roster. The team added veteran Arian Foster in free agency, and he should be the lead back this season. However, the Dolphins have tossed around the idea of using the dreaded 'hot hand' approach at RB. That makes Ajayi a risky RB4 for most fantasy owners.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake out another week    Mon Aug 22, 11:34 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) will miss this week's practices and preseason game as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Drake has incredible straight-line speed, so this hamstring injury is especially bothersome. The rookie could be in the mix later as a change-of-pace back for the Dolphins.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey may miss opener    Sun Aug 21, 04:17 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) could miss Week 1 of the regular season after suffering a hip injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 of the preseason.

Footballguys view: Pouncey hasn't played in 16 games since 2012, and it looks like that streak will add another year. Anthony Steen was an undrafted free agent in 2014 and he has no NFL regular season experience, but he is slated to start for the Dolphins at center Week 1, when they go into Seattle.

Dolphins | Xavien Howard to miss preseason game    Sun Aug 21, 12:03 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard (knee) said he will participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 21, but will not be able to play in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 25.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake may go on short-term IR    Sun Aug 21, 11:40 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) may be a candidate for the short-term Injured Reserve list if the team wants to keep RBs Isaiah Pead and Damien Williams on the 53-man roster. Drake has missed most of training camp because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Drake was injury-prone at Alabama, and it has carried over in the NFL before he has even had a chance to show his stuff. He might play a role by the end of the season, but it's beginning to look like Drake will be a minimal part of the rotation this year.

Dolphins | Isaiah Pead turning heads    Sat Aug 20, 10:16 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Isaiah Pead was originally just supposed to be a camp body with a small chance of winning a roster spot, but he is doing whatever he can to force head coach Adam Gase into a tough roster decision. He led the team in yards from scrimmage (78) for the second straight preseason game. He even received first-team snaps, which might indicate he is on the right side of the roster bubble. 'Every time he gets in the game, he seems to pop one,' Gase said. 'I've been very impressed with him. When he gets in the game, I'm thinking, 'Let's call plays for him and try to give him a chance to show his skill set'.'

Footballguys view: Pead was a second-round pick for the Rams in 2012, but appeared to lose his zest for football in a slow rookie year. The Dolphins could keep him as a fourth running back if he challenges Damien Williams.

Dolphins | Right guard in Miami still up for grabs    Sat Aug 20, 10:16 PM

Miami Dolphins OGs Jermon Bushrod and Billy Turner continue to battle for the starting job at right guard, and they both had their moments in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 19, against the Dallas Cowboys.

Dolphins | Writing on wall for Jamil Douglas    Sat Aug 20, 10:15 PM

Dolphins | Jordan Phillips not stepping up    Sat Aug 20, 10:15 PM

Dolphins | Matt Moore has concussion    Sat Aug 20, 09:46 AM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion and will take part in the concussion protocol.

Footballguys view: Seventh-round rookie Brandon Doughty will get work backing up Ryan Tannehill if Moore isn't ready for the third preseason game next week.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill plays well Friday    Sat Aug 20, 12:00 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill completed 12 of his 20 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-14 preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys Friday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Tannehill actually completed a deep ball to Kenny Stills and looked better this week, although the Cowboys aren't exactly the stiffest defense. Tannehill will face the Seahawks and Patriots weeks 1 and 2, so this might not portend a hot start to the regular season for him, although it is encouraging.

Dolphins | Big game for Kenny Stills    Fri Aug 19, 11:55 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills caught three passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-14 preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys Friday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Stills has a fresh start with this new regime, but the downfield passing game wasn't clicking so far in the preseason and camp. He responded with an excellent red zone catch and separation downfield. He should be able to hold off rookie Leonte Carroo for the #3 job as long as he keeps this up, but Stills is just a very late round pick and more likely a waiver wire watch list candidate at this point.

Dolphins | Forgettable debut for Arian Foster    Fri Aug 19, 10:46 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster made his team debut Friday, Aug. 19, against the Dallas Cowboys, losing five yards on two carries.

Footballguys view: Foster was still behind Jay Ajayi in the rotation, but Ajayi wasn't overly impressive. The Dolphins offensive line is still a work in progress, but Foster's pass-catching ability will give him a decent weekly floor in PPR leagues even if he is in a full timeshare with Ajayi. Chances are this will one of the most true RBBC situations in the league.

Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil part of new Miami O-line    Fri Aug 19, 10:35 PM

Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil replaced OT Dallas Thomas as the starting left guard, and OT Jermon Bushrod started at right guard in place of OG Billy Turner for the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys Friday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins offensive line is part of a larger transition as the Miami offense has had some hiccups this summer. It's hard to like any Dolphins to greatly exceed expectations early in the season with the shuffling line and reports of problems adopting new offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen's scheme.

Dolphins | Three Miami linemen expected to play    Thu Aug 18, 03:16 PM

Miami Dolphins DE Mario Williams, DE Cameron Wake and DT Ndamukong Suh are expected to play in the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys Friday, Aug. 19. All three players did not play in the first preseason game.

Footballguys view: This should be a fascinating test for the Miami defense. On paper, that is a potent combination but they are going against the best offensive line in the league. Get your popcorn ready, 'cause it's gonna be a show.

Dolphins | Dion Jordan might start on NFI    Tue Aug 16, 10:43 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Dion Jordan (knee) might begin the regular season on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, although head coach Adam Gase said Tuesday, Aug. 16, that Jordan has looked good. 'Every time he's supposed to be somewhere, he's been there. He's been engaged in everything we've done. I see a guy that seem to be excited to be here and, for him, it's like the first thing I told him, 'Whatever's happened in the past is irrelevant. You got a fresh start so make the most of it.'

Dolphins | Jordan Cameron encouraged to stay    Tue Aug 16, 10:42 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron took a pay cut to stay with the team, partly due to the advice of Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas. The former Denver Broncos tight end told Cameron he would like head coach Adam Gase's system. Cameron said 'one of my good friends, Julius Thomas, who played for (Adam Gase), said, 'You've got to play for this guy.' He does a good job of putting (tight ends) in spots to succeed.'

Footballguys view: Cameron and really the whole Dolphins offense have been lackluster under the new coaching regime, so Thomas's advice to Cameron is not translating to fantasy advice yet. Cameron has a great track record and measureables, but his game dropped off a cliff last year. He's only worth a very late pick, and might be better suited to be a waiver wire watch list candidate.

Dolphins | Miami RG job up for grabs    Tue Aug 16, 10:40 PM

Miami Dolphins OG Jermon Bushrod and OG Billy Turner are battling it out for the starting right guard job. Turner opened with the starting unit Tuesday, Aug. 16, in practice, but Bushrod also received first-team reps.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have decent depth on their line, but they have to gel as a unit to keep Ryan Tannehill upright and key a running game that never got in a groove under Joe Philbin. Bushrod was once a top tackle while Turner has ended up being a much pass blocker than run blocker after going in the third round in 2014.

Dolphins | High hopes for Isa Abdul-Quddus    Tue Aug 16, 10:40 PM

Dolphins | Xavien Howard yet to be cleared    Tue Aug 16, 10:37 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard (knee) has yet to be cleared to practice in training camp as he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery.

Footballguys view: Howard was projected to start as a second-round rookie, but that looks like an ill-advised choice with him missing so much of camp and the preseason. Russell Wilson will get to pick on second-year wide receiver convert Tony Lippett opposite his former teammate Byron Maxwell in Week 1.

Dolphins | Miami interested in Stephen Tulloch    Tue Aug 16, 10:08 PM

Dolphins | Jordan Cameron struggling?    Tue Aug 16, 01:23 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron is going through 'growing pains' and has a lot on his plate, according to Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: We're disappointed to hear this news. Cameron has a chance to be Gase's new Julius Thomas this season. We liked adding him as a TE2 late in drafts, but if he doesn't overcome these growing pains then we'll start looking elsewhere for a 'lottery ticket' TE.

Dolphins | Arian Foster to debut    Tue Aug 16, 11:28 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster (Achilles') will make his preseason debut Friday, Aug. 19, against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: We'll hold our breath, as Foster is both coming back from an achilles and he has been an injury-prone player as his career has gone on. If he looks like his old self, he'll be worth a pick in the 7th-10th round range in PPR leagues because of his huge weekly upside in a pass offense that is still under construction.

Dolphins | Jakeem Grant shines Friday    Sat Aug 13, 12:53 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant had 113 return yards and 68 receiving yards in a preseason game against the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Grant is a weapon from Texas Tech who the Dolphins picked up in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft. A tiny prospect by NFL standards (5'6" 165 pounds), Grant is electric with the ball in his hands with the speed and quickness to eat up chunks of yards in the blink of an eye. He could win a spot on the 53-man roster as a no.4 WR/offensive weapon for the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi had two carries for six yards and was unable to catch either of his targets in a 27-10 preseason win over the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins did everything they could to find more RB help this offseason. While they missed out on some backs, they did sign veteran RB Arian Foster. If healthy, we see Foster as the starter and the more fantasy relevant player. Ajayi needs to impress if he wants to see the field.

Dolphins | Leonte Carroo having a good camp    Thu Aug 11, 07:51 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo has been having a good camp, according to head coach Adam Gase, and the team is eager to see more. 'He's been making some positive plays,' Gase said. 'His biggest thing is mentally, what are we going to do? Is he going to keep growing? Are we going to get stuck? Are we going to have that rookie wall hit? He's going to keep rolling on that.'

Footballguys view: Carroo is an interesting rookie to keep an eye on. In college at Rutgers, Carroo was a deep target who does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. When developed, Carroo could be in the mix as a deep receiver this year.
