Dolphins | DeVante Parker standing out this spring    Fri Jun 14, 02:30 PM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker regularly looked like the team's best offensive player this spring, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.

Footballguys view: This has been an annual tradition now, so we'll excuse you if you aren't getting on the bandwagon. Parker is cheaper than previous years and Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't bad at creating fantasy value in his receivers, so we won't scoff at taking Parker at ADP to see what happens under a new regime that surprisingly chose to retain him.

Dolphins | Albert Wilson aiming for Week 1    Sun Jun 9, 01:58 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (hip), who missed nine games of the 2018 season and all of the current offseason with a hip injury said Friday, June 7, 'there's no reason why I shouldn't be out there Week 1.'

Footballguys view: Wilson could be a nice sleeper with a reassuring summer that demonstrates chemistry with his new quarterbacks. He was breaking out before getting hurt last year and could lead the team in targets this year.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki to catch 50 balls?    Sat Jun 8, 11:05 PM

Miami Dolphins TE MIke Gesicki should finish with around 50 receptions for 500 yards in his second season, in the opinion of Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com, and Wolfe believes Gesicki will benefit from having a quarterback other than Ryan Tannehill under center because of Tannehill's inability to utilize the middle of the field effectively.

Footballguys view: Gesicki was also going through blocking boot camp last year under Adam Gase. The new regime should try to use him more as a receiver to leverage his rare measured athleticism at his position. The numbers are modest, but could be enough to make him a low TE1 if he can deliver.

Dolphins | Albert Wilson missed entire offseason    Sat Jun 8, 01:50 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (hip) did not participate in any offseason workouts or minicamps because he is still recovering from a hip injury.

Footballguys view: Wilson made it through seven games last year for the Dolphins. This hip injury was not supposed to keep him out of offseason work. Now, it has, and there seems to be some problem in his recovery. We'll have to see if the veteran will be ready for training camp later this summer.

Dolphins | Isaac Asiata let go    Fri Jun 7, 02:46 AM

Miami Dolphins OG Isaac Asiata (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list with a settlement on Thursday, June 6.

Footballguys view: Asiata was a 2017 fifth-round pick, but never developed during his time with the team. There are a lot of jobs up for grabs on Dolphins line, so he must have shown that he has very little to offer.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker showing out    Thu Jun 6, 11:29 AM

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has been the best player in camp the last five weeks. If he played like this in games consistently, he would be a Pro Bowler, in the opinion of beat writer Barry Jackson.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick out of Louisville in the 2015 NFL draft, Parker has never truly played up to his potential. We've heard great things about him in the offseason before (see 2018) and nothing has come to fruition fully. Parker was expected to be cut by the team but instead signed a two-year extension worth $13 million maximum. In yet another 'prove it' year, we'll see if things finally sync with Parker.

Dolphins | Kenny Stills missing practice    Wed Jun 5, 04:01 PM

Dolphins | Brice Butler should be fine    Wed Jun 5, 03:59 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Brice Butler (leg) left practice early Tuesday, June 4, because of a leg injury, but head coach Brian Flores said Butler will be fine.

Footballguys view: Butler may be fine but he needs to stay on the field if he wants to make the team. With the additions this offseason, the Dolphins are packed at the position. Butler is likely a fifth or sixth receiver if he makes the team.

Dolphins | Mark Walton making push for roster spot    Thu May 30, 04:13 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Mark Walton has 'a real chance to beat out seventh-round pick Myles Gaskin for the No. 3 job' and 'impressed as a receiver during OTA sessions,' according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Footballguys view: Walton is a talented and natural runner. We'll monitor him in dynasty formats so long as he stays out of trouble off the field.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick has early lead in QB derby?    Fri May 24, 03:22 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been 'the best of the quarterbacks' in organized team activities so far, according to an unidentified player who spoke to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently. However, Josh Rosen has also reportedly 'played well.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran with the dad bod...of course he should be the early leader. We also know the wily veteran is wildly inconsistent, so Rosen is going to start at some point this season even if Fitzpatrick wins the starting job in training camp.

Dolphins | Adolphus Washington signs with Dolphins    Thu May 23, 08:53 AM

Free-agent DT Adolphus Washington (Bengals) signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, May 23. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Washington was a third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 2016 NFL draft. He's bounced around the league since that time and is not a lock for the Dolphins final roster.

Dolphins | Raekwon McMillan should return soon    Tue May 21, 06:37 PM

Dolphins | Knee issue for Ricardo Louis    Sat May 18, 09:10 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Ricardo Louis (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury, according to a league source. It was initially reported that Louis was dealing with a neck injury.

Footballguys view: Louis missed the 2018 season with a neck injury. Now, he's lost for the year due to a knee injury suffered this offseason. Louis is going to have a difficult time continuing his pro career that had some minor flashes early on when he was with the Browns. He's set to be an RFA for the Dolphins following this season.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with starters    Wed May 15, 09:59 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick took reps with the first-team offense during OTAs Tuesday, May 14.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran while his main competition, Josh Rosen, is a second-year player coming from another system. Rosen should get the chance to start at some point in 2019. We'll see if and how long Fitzpatrick can hold him off from the top spot on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Connor Barwin's visit over    Wed May 15, 03:19 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent LB Connor Barwin (Giants) met with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, May 15, but did not receive a contract offer after the meeting.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins might just be updating their emergency list here with Barwin. He's gotten little to no interest since being let go from the Rams back in January. The team is still interested in Barwin and could sign him later in the offseason.

Dolphins | Two players limited    Wed May 15, 03:02 PM

Dolphins | Albert Wilson misses practice    Wed May 15, 02:49 PM

Dolphins | Connor Barwin visiting Dolphins    Wed May 15, 12:01 PM

Free-agent DE Connor Barwin (Giants) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, May 15.

Footballguys view: There has been little to no interest in Barwin on the open market, and this is his first known visit. Released by the Giants back in January, Barwin won't provide much production if signed (1.0 sack in 15 games last year) but gives a team veteran presence.

Dolphins | Mark Walton among Miami signees    Sun May 12, 12:52 PM

Free-agent RB Mark Walton (Bengals) and CB Jamar Summers (Steelers) and undrafted rookie C Kirk Barron signed with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, May 12.

Footballguys view: Walton was a fourth-round pick in 2018 and certainly has the skills and physical ability to make the Dolphins roster as a third-down back. Seventh-round pick Myles Gaskin might have a tough time outplaying Walton, who was released by Cincinnati after multiple offseason arrests.

Dolphins | Dave DeGuglielmo hired    Sun May 12, 08:08 AM

The Miami Dolphins hired Dave DeGuglielmo as an analyst Saturday, May 11. His primary responsibility will include assisting offensive line coach Pat Flaherty. DeGuglielmo had previously served as an offensive line coach for the Dolphins from 2009 to 2011 and most recently worked for the Indianapolis Colts in the same capacity in 2018.

Footballguys view: Frank Reich let DeGuglielmo go despite his smashing success rebuilding an offensive line that had been a major liability in previous years. The Dolphins have even less to work with than the Colts did last year, so his services will be sorely needed.

Dolphins | Mark Walton getting a look from Miami    Fri May 10, 02:25 PM

Free-agent RB Mark Walton (Bengals) is trying out with the Miami Dolphins during their rookie minicamp Friday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Walton had multiple arrests this offseason, which was enough to earn his release. He was successful with the Hurricanes down in Miami as a collegiate player and the Dolphins have a depth chart spot or two up for grabs at running back, so this is something to monitor.

Dolphins | Xavien Howard breaks the bank    Thu May 9, 07:54 PM

Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard agreed to a five-year, $76.5 million contract extension Thursday, May 9. The deal includes $46 million guaranteed, which makes Howard the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins aren't in pure rebuild mode, as they locked up one of the best shutdown corners in the game for the long haul at a price that will look reasonable in a few years. Howard has been a revelation since being picked a little early at #38 in 2016. Miami was smart to not let next year's free agent market set Howard's price or resort to using a tag on him next year and possibly create ill will.

Dolphins | Miami officially adds five    Thu May 9, 06:46 PM

Dolphins | Miami prepping for QB battle    Thu May 9, 01:54 PM

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea said Thursday, May 10, that the team has 'options' at quarterback, and the starting job will be 'earned' on the field.

Footballguys view: Josh Rosen will not be handed the job. He's going to be competing with wily veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting position. Fitzpatrick won't just fade away, so this is a battle that could go well into training camp and the preseason. If Rosen wants to make the most of his second chance, beating Fitzpatrick early would show signs that he's not the bust some are already painting him to be after one lousy season as a rookie with the Cardinals last year.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen has fan in former coach    Thu May 9, 12:14 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen has a believer in Los Angeles assistant offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, his offensive coordinator and interim head coach at UCLA. 'Knowing Josh, from working with him on a daily basis, I believe he will react and respond as he does in everything,' Fisch said in an interview published Thursday, May 9. 'He's very self-aware. He recognizes his skill set. He recognizes his ability in comparison to others. And I think in his mind he'll just go out there and show the Miami Dolphins they made the right decision. And do everything he can to perform at the highest level, recognizing he has all the skills in the world. And I don't think he'll be set back. I don't think he'll feel that he needs to prove someone wrong as much as he would like to prove someone right.'

Footballguys view: Rosen has a lot to prove in 2019. First, he's got to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job. Second, he's got to show that last year was a fluke and he can flash as a starter. Finally, Rosen has to make quicker decisions with the football and not seem as frustrated when things aren't going his way. Rosen gets a second chance with the Dolphins, but they could easily move on from him and target another first-round quarterback in the 2020 NFL draft if things don't start trending up for the young passer.

Dolphins | Chandler Cox agrees to contract    Wed May 8, 05:25 PM

Dolphins | Myles Gaskin agrees to terms    Wed May 8, 05:15 PM

Miami Dolphins seventh-round draft choice RB Myles Gaskin agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Dolphins Wednesday, May 8, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Gaskin is a compact runner at 5'9" 205 pounds, and he is known for being a tough runner inside or outside. He's capable as a receiving threat out of the backfield and has the quick feet to make defenders miss in open space. Kenyan Drake is the Dolphins starter, but Gaskin could push Kalen Ballage for the no.2 spot on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Nick Perry on Miami's radar    Mon May 6, 03:19 PM

Free-agent LB Nick Perry (Packers) has received 'overtures' from the Miami Dolphins since he was released by the Green Bay Packers in March, and 'there seems to be a real chance' the Dolphins will sign him sometime this week, according to Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald.

Footballguys view: Perry has been out there for over a month with little interest garnered. The Dolphins could take a chance on Perry for the right price. If he can stay healthy, perhaps a change of scenery can finally get him to play up to his potential.

Dolphins | Miami interested in Sean McGuire    Fri May 3, 07:13 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Sean McGuire (Western Illinois) will receive interest from the Miami Dolphins if he does not sign with the Minnesota Vikings after his tryout this weekend, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Leathernecks quarterback was an interesting player in college. He can work from under center or from out of the shotgun. McGuire can throw accurately downfield and shows nice touch throwing between defenders. His arm isn't the strongest out there but he can make deep out throws. We'll see if McGuire latches on anywhere in the NFL.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen thinks he can be franchise QB    Mon Apr 29, 08:50 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen said he believes he can be a franchise quarterback for the Dolphins.

Footballguys view: It would be news if he felt any differently. Rosen looked lost for the Cardinals last year, but one could easily blame that on coaching, lack of talent around him or an offensive line that let him get beat up quite a bit. Struggles as a rookie quarterback in the NFL should be expected, and Rosen wasn't a good fit for the 'Air Raid' system that new Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury is bringing to Arizona. Rosen gets a fresh start with the Dolphins and has a chance to showcase his talent as the starter if he can beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick.
