Dolphins | Charles Clay not picking up yards    Thu Sep 18, 11:31 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay has only averaged 6.4 yards per reception this season, which is the lowest average among starting tight ends.

Footballguys view: Clay has been plagued by a minor knee injury and dropped passes. For those thinking they may have something with Clay, it's past time to move on to another tight end.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno has target date    Thu Sep 18, 11:23 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) has been telling teammates that he hopes to return after the team's Week 5 bye.

Footballguys view: That's all nice and well, but we'll believe it when we see it. If healthy, Moreno is the best back on the roster and at least a RB2 with upside. We'll see when he can come back...and we'll see if he can stay healthy, something that's always been a problem for him.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno doesn't practice    Thu Sep 18, 05:17 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Moreno suffered an elbow injury in Week 2 and he's going to miss some time because of it. He could be out at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller practices     Thu Sep 18, 02:07 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) practiced for the third straight day Thursday, Sept. 18. Miller has a slight limp after spraining his ankle in the team's Week 2 game, but has not been on the injury report this week.

Footballguys view: He's not on the injury report either, so we expect him to be good to go against a weakened Kansas City defense. Miller is a solid RB2 in Miami's run-heavy scheme and could produce better numbers than that for this matchup.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller not on injury report    Thu Sep 18, 12:32 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) was not on the team's injury report Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: Kansas City is reeling and Lamar Miller will get the first crack at the starting job since Knowshon Moreno is out for the next 4-8 weeks. Miller is a solid RB2 against the Chiefs with the upside for more.

Dolphins | Looking at LaMichael James    Tue Sep 16, 06:07 PM

Free-agent RB LaMichael James (49ers) worked out for the Miami Dolphins, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins could use another running back after losing Knowshon Moreno for at least a few weeks due to an elbow injury. They already added the unimpressive Daniel Thomas to the roster, so signing James could be an upgrade.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey thinks he can play    Tue Sep 16, 05:22 PM

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) thinks he's healthy enough to return to action in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. 'I feel like I can play,' Pouncey said after practice. 'But it ain't my decision. It's really not that tough. Honestly, I'm just listening to what the coaches say and the doctors say because they know best.'

Footballguys view: Not many expected Pouncey back this soon. Pouncey practiced in full Tuesday, Sept. 16, and he looked fluid in the portion open to the media. Getting him back on the field would greatly help the Dolphins in both their passing and ground games.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller in walking boot    Mon Sep 15, 01:27 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills in a walking boot Sunday, Sept. 14, and his status for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs isn't known.

Footballguys view: Knowshon Moreno is already banged up with an elbow injury that could keep him out multiple weeks. The team needs Miller to be healthy as the lead back. We'll see if he can get back to practice fully later in the week.

Dolphins | Dolphins struggling to execute offense    Mon Sep 15, 01:25 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deliver accurate passes in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and TE Charles Clay had several dropped passes. Tannehill was 5-for-16 (31 percent) on third downs, and the team was sluggish in the running game. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor likes to spread the field and create one-on-one matchups, but the Dolphins might not have the talent to run his schemes the way they were meant to be designed.

Dolphins | Chris McCain doesn't play much    Mon Sep 15, 01:18 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Chris McCain (illness) hardly played at all in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills after being a big contributor in the Week 1 victory. McCain missed two days of practice last week with an illness, so there is a chance he wasn't 100 percent healthy.

Dolphins | Daniel Thomas re-signs    Mon Sep 15, 11:17 AM

The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Daniel Thomas to an undisclosed deal Monday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Knowshon Moreno could miss an extended period of time with an elbow injury, and Thomas makes for a smart move. Lamar Miller could just get a larger role going forward. Don't expect Thomas to step into the Moreno role and get a large number of touches. Thomas is just veteran insurance.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno could miss more time    Mon Sep 15, 02:56 AM

Clarifying a previous item, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) will miss at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.

Footballguys view: Moreno runs with little to no regard for his personal safety. Fans and teammates love his heart, passion and desire, but that playing style leads to plenty of injuries. Moreno has rarely made it through an extended period of time without getting banged up to varying degrees.

Dolphins | Charles Clay leaves briefly    Sun Sep 14, 05:40 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay (undisclosed) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills briefly due to an undisclosed injury, but he was able to return. He finished with seven receptions for 31 yards.

Footballguys view: Clay hasn't been nearly as involved in the downfield offense as he was last year. He is droppable if you have another viable option at tight end. Clay doesn't offer much weekly upside, but his downside has been visible in the first two weeks.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno to miss month    Sun Sep 14, 04:43 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) is expected to miss four weeks due to a dislocated elbow, according to a source. He was injured in the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: Lamar Miller, like the whole Dolphins offense, did not have a standout day. He would have flex appeal against the Chiefs if his leg injury checks out, but it's hard to be as excited about his gain in value coming off of this game.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller leaves game    Sun Sep 14, 03:53 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (leg) left the game early Week 2, and is having his right leg looked at by trainers.

Footballguys view: Miller had a big opportunity with Knowshon Moreno hurt, but he failed to seize the day. The Dolphins running game in general struggled after having a banner opening day against the Patriots. UDFA rookie Damien Williams could be in the crosshairs for more work against Kansas City next week.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno leaves early    Sun Sep 14, 01:35 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (arm) left the game early Week 2 after suffering an apparent arm injury, according to Scott Hanson on NFL RedZone.

Footballguys view: Moreno is out for the game with a gnarly looking elbow injury. Lamar Miller gets a big boost in value for any length of time that Moreno is out, and that could be a significant amount.

Dolphins | Brian Hartline has matchup edge    Sun Sep 14, 12:09 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline has a matchup edge against CB Buffalo Bills CB Stephon Gilmore (groin), who is hindered by a groin injury Sunday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: Hartline still seemed to take a backseat to Mike Wallace and the running game in the game plan last week, so if he can't make an impact this week, he'll be droppable.

Dolphins | Charles Clay listed as probable    Fri Sep 12, 03:34 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is listed as probable for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Clay isn't as prominent in a run-heavy Miami offense, so he has fallen to the high-end TE2 ranks after a low-end TE1 year in 2013.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace should play    Fri Sep 12, 03:30 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is listed as probable for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Wallace was given the #1 wide receiver treatment in terms of targets, both short and long last week. The team stuck with him through mistakes to give him the chance to put up a WR1 stat line, and he should have every opportunity to do that again this week at Buffalo.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno probable    Fri Sep 12, 03:29 PM

Dolphins | Mike Wallace limited in practice    Thu Sep 11, 05:35 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 11.

Footballguys view: Wallace should be good to go on Sunday. The team is wisely moving him around the formation in an effort to get him more involved. We like Wallace as a low-end WR2 with upside because of his role in the new Bill Lazor offense.

Dolphins | Two out for Week 2    Thu Sep 11, 08:39 AM

Miami Dolphins LB Koa Misi (ankle) and LB Philip Wheeler (thumb) are out for Week 2. LB Jason Trusnik is expected to play middle linebacker, and Jonathan Freeny will replace Wheeler.

Footballguys view: Trusnik had a solid game against New England, so there shouldn't be much letdown there, but Freeny was a bit shakier, albeit in limited snaps. The Bills are a bit shaky offensively, which might make things easier on the replacements.
