Bills | Keith Towbridge scooped up by Buffalo    Fri Jun 14, 04:53 PM

Free-agent TE Keith Towbridge (Titans) was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills on Friday, June 14. TE Mik'Quan Deane was waived to make room on the roster for him.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Louisville in 2017, Towbridge began his NFL career with the Bills. He spent most of his time on the Bills practice squad. Towbridge was with the Atlanta Legends in the AAF but when the league went belly up, the Titans ended up signing him. Now, Towbridge is back with the Bills and he's obviously no lock for the 53-man roster.

Bills | Dawson Knox signs rookie deal    Fri Jun 14, 01:25 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, June 14. Monetary terms of the deal weren't immediately available.

Footballguys view: Knox is a top-end athlete and didn't get many targets behind three wide receivers who all made the leap to the NFL this year. He could have a lot of early opportunity and should be stashed in tight end premium dynasty leagues.

Bills | Victor Bolden could make roster    Thu Jun 13, 11:52 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Victor Bolden has an edge in the battle to make the roster as the No. 6 receiver because of his ability to play on special teams, according to Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.

Bills | Andre Roberts may have role in offense    Thu Jun 13, 11:50 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Andre Roberts may see work in the passing game as the No. 5 receiver in addition to playing on special teams, according to Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.

Footballguys view: Roberts was one of the most impactful return men in the league last year, so the Jets will miss him. He won't have fantasy relevance, but could add even more vertical speed to the Bills passing game in three and four wide sets.

Bills | Matt Barkley locked in as backup QB?    Thu Jun 13, 10:48 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Barkley has the 'safest' role on the roster as QB Josh Allen's backup, in the opinion of Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.

Bills | LeSean McCoy expects sizable role    Thu Jun 13, 07:31 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy expects to maintain a large role in the offense in his age-31 season in 2019. 'I'm a type of guy, I thrive off of having a big name. So when guys come to my team, they're curious to see, 'How is LeSean McCoy? Is he still a good player?' I mean, I'm a dominant player. I think that speaks for itself. But I'll be in the same role as last year. And I look forward to putting some numbers up and bouncing back from that last season,' McCoy said Tuesday, June 12.

Footballguys view: There has been speculation that he could be released because of his 6.5 million dollar price tag, but the Bills have shown that they value McCoy greatly in recent years despite some incentive to trade him. He is about as cheap as any back in line to lead his team in carries, so the risk of release or a diminishing role is tolerable. His ceiling is limited by an under construction offensive line and potential to lose short touchdowns to Josh Allen.

Bills | Three RBs see time with starters    Tue Jun 11, 06:22 PM

Buffalo Bills RBs LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore and Devin Singletary all received snaps with the first-team offense during practice Tuesday, June 11.

Footballguys view: McCoy is still the lead back (for now) but the team is ready to move on if he falters. They could use more of Gore and/or Singletary in an effort to keep McCoy fresh in 2019. McCoy has a current ADP of RB41 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bills | Robert Foster misses practice    Tue Jun 11, 06:12 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Foster (foot) did not participate in practice Tuesday, June 11, because of a foot injury. Head coach Sean McDermott said the injury does not appear to be serious.

Footballguys view: Foster splashed onto the scene last year as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama. The injury is not serious, so we'll be watching Foster closely to see if his chemistry with Josh Allen can continue to grow stronger in 2019.

Bills | Dawson Knox standing out    Tue Jun 11, 05:54 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox has made a 'strong argument' that he has done the most to help himself during offseason work this spring, according to WKBW's Joe Buscaglia. According to Buscaglia, Knox has taken advantage of his opportunity with the first team to build an 'excellent little rapport' with QB Josh Allen.

Footballguys view: The Bills have already had a couple of injuries at the tight end position this offseason, thus opening the door for the rookie from Ole Miss. Knox has drawn comparisons to Kyle Rudolph (Vikings) because of his size and athletic ability. We'll see if he can continue to build strong chemistry with Allen during training camp and the preseason.

Bills | Cole Beasley should be ready for camp    Wed Jun 5, 03:34 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (core) is on schedule in his recovery and should be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: The Bills are just being cautious here. Signed to a four-year, $29 million deal this offseason, Beasley is the team's slot receiver in 2019.

Bills | Trent Murphy finally healthy    Sat Jun 1, 09:33 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Trent Murphy (knee) said he is finally back at 100 percent after playing at less than full speed last year because of the knee injury that sidelined him for all of 2017.

Footballguys view: The Bills have been searching for an edge rush presence to complement Jerry Hughes and Murphy is probably the best candidate this year. If he can stay healthy, he should improve their passing down defense and have an outside shot at IDP relevance.

Bills | Dawson Knox turning heads    Sat Jun 1, 09:26 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox has impressed his teammates with his speed and athleticism during OTAs, according to John Murphy of BuffaloBills.com, and QB Josh Allen praised Knox for how quickly he has picked up the playbook.

Footballguys view: Knox was one of the most athletic tight ends in the draft but fell to late third round because of injuries and playing with three NFL prospects at wide receiver at Ole Miss. The Bills signed Tyler Kroft in free agency but he broke his foot in OTAs, giving Knox an opportunity to play a much larger role in the offense in his rookie year if he continues to impress.

Bills | Two TEs splitting first-team snaps    Thu May 30, 06:16 PM

Buffalo Bills TEs Lee Smith and Dawson Knox shared snaps with the first-team offense during practice Tuesday, May 28, because TE Tyler Kroft (foot) and TE Jason Croom (hamstring) are dealing with injuries.

Footballguys view: The Bills tight end room is really banged up right now. Smith is a big-bodied blocker but Knox is the intriguing receiving option here. The rookie from Ole Miss can get open and be a threat over the middle of the field. We'll watch him in dynasty formats.

Bills | Jason Croom misses practice    Wed May 29, 04:12 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Jason Croom (hamstring) did not participate in practice Tuesday, May 28, because of a hamstring injury

Footballguys view: Croom was banged up quite a bit in college at Tennessee, and we'll see if this hamstring injury lingers for the super-sized wide receiver playing tight end. Tyler Kroft (foot) got banged up earlier this offseason, and this has given rookie Dawson Knox plenty of opportunity to showcase his talent in Bills OTAs.

Bills | Josh Allen gaining OC's confidence    Tue May 28, 07:16 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has been impressing offensive coordinator Brian Daboll in organized team activities (OTAs) and has even been allowed to call plays at times. 'There's been a series in there where I said, 'Hey, you got it, bro. Take it, call it. Go no-huddle and you call it on your own,'' Daboll said Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Allen fought hard as a rookie and did a lot with his legs. His athleticism was definitely noticed by opponents, but Allen needs to get better as a passer to play up to his potential. Allen's rushing ability makes him an interesting QB2 for Fantasy GMs. He's currently going off the board at QB18 (12.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bills | Buffalo makes roster moves    Wed May 22, 05:41 PM

Free-agent TE Mik'Quan Deane (Seahawks) signed with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, May 22. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived OT Blake Hance and S Abraham Wallace.

Footballguys view: Deane was undrafted out of Western Kentucky this year and only lasted a couple of weeks with the Seahawks. Over the last two seasons with the Hilltoppers, Deane snared 55 catches for 673 yards and five touchdowns. Measuring in at 6'4" 240 pounds, Deane is an athletic player who has yet to play his best football. He's a long-shot to even make the practice squad for the Bills, even though their TE position has been ravaged by injuries recently. We'll monitor Deane in super crazy deep dynasty formats.

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills TE Tyler Kroft's (foot) broken foot is the same foot he broke last season.

Bills | Frank Gore not practicing    Tue May 21, 06:20 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Frank Gore (foot, ankle) is not participating in practices because he is coming off foot and ankle injuries.

Footballguys view: Gore doesn't need to practice that much this offseason. The seasoned veteran just needs to get healthy and produce in the Bills RBBC this season. We'll see how he works into the mix along with LeSean McCoy once training camp hits.

Bills | Jerry Hughes receives extension    Tue May 21, 06:05 PM

Buffalo Bills DE Jerry Hughes signed a two-year contract extension with the Bills Tuesday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Hughes was entering the final year of his contract and the Bills wanted to keep him around. He's their best pass rusher but hasn't had double-digit sacks in a single season since 2014. Hughes is coming off a 7.0 sack season for the Bills and will continue in his familiar role.

Bills | Jason Croom suffers apparent injury    Tue May 21, 02:41 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Jason Croom (undisclosed) left the team's organized training activity session with an athletic trainer for an undisclosed reason, according to WKBW's Joe Buscaglia.

Footballguys view: No word on what Croom is dealing with here. However, this would be the second tight end to go down with injury for the Bills this offseason. On Monday, projected starter Tyler Kroft broke his foot and could begin the 2019 season on the PUP list. Rookie Dawson Knox is going to get a large opportunity to impress.

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (core) underwent core-muscle surgery a few weeks ago, head coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday, May 21, and is being held out of OTAs.

Footballguys view: Beasley should be ready for training camp. The Bills picked him up this offseason to be their new slot receiver. We should see Zay Jones and John Brown on the outside with Beasley working the underneath routes in 2019.

Bills | T.J. Yeldon dealing with groin injury    Tue May 21, 12:04 PM

Buffalo Bills RB T.J. Yeldon (groin) missed OTA drills Tuesday, May 21, due to a groin injury.

Footballguys view: Yeldon is getting a fresh start with the Bills this year. As a runner, Yeldon may not do much. He's best used as a receiver out of the backfield, catching 171 passes with the Jaguars over the last four years. He better impress in practice because the Bills have a jam-packed backfield with LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore and rookie Devin Singletary.

Bills | Tyler Kroft suffered broken foot    Tue May 21, 11:42 AM

Buffalo Bills TE Tyler Kroft (foot) suffered a broken foot Monday, May 20, and will require surgery that should keep him out three to four months. He could begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: On the PUP list, Kroft would be forced to miss the first six weeks of the regular season. After that time, the Bills would have three weeks to decide whether or not to activate Kroft or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve. Kroft was in line to start after the Bills picked him up in free agency earlier this offseason. Watch to see if rookie third-round pick Dawson Knox emerges while Kroft is down.

Bills | Duke Williams showing maturity    Sat May 18, 09:15 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Duke Williams has 'developed some self-awareness' about what he needs to do on and off the field to be successful in the NFL, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: Back in January, the Bills wasted no time in adding the CFL's leading receiver. In the 2018 season with the Edmonton Eskimos (18 games), Williams posted 88 receptions for almost 1,600 yards (1,579) and 11 touchdowns. Undrafted out of Auburn in 2016, Williams did get a cup of coffee as a rookie tryout player with the Rams that year. Now, back in the NFL, the 6'3" 225 pound receiver is trying to latch on with the Bills. We'll monitor his progress in deep dynasty formats.

Bills | Christian Wade shows his potential    Fri May 17, 10:24 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Christian Wade showed that the same abilities that made him a rugby star could translate to the NFL with his performance during rookie minicamp, in the opinion of Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com. 'He showed great speed with the ball in his hands, the ability to set defenders up to make them miss, and a natural vision down the field,' Buscaglia said.

Footballguys view: Wade was assigned to the Bills back in April as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. As a rugby star, you already know that Wade is tough and not afraid of contact. Wade played at the highest rugby levels in the UK but retired in 2018 to pursue a career in the NFL. We love his story and are excited to see if he can make the 53-man roster. Monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

Bills | Lee Smith signs with Bills    Mon May 13, 09:50 AM

Free-agent TE Lee Smith (Raiders) signed a three-year deal with the Buffalo Bills Monday, May 13. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: This is Smith's second stint with the Bills. A fifth-round pick out of Marshall in 2011 (Patriots), Smith failed to make the 53-man roster in New England and was quickly scooped up by the Bills. He was in Buffalo from 2011-2014 before moving on to the Raiders. Smith is a big-bodied blocker and not much of a fantasy factor.

Bills | Dawson Knox a matchup problem?    Sun May 12, 09:20 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox 'demonstrated his athleticism and speed in the open field' during rookie minicamp and was able to beat safeties and linebackers in drills, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com.

Footballguys view: Knox posted great workout numbers before the draft, but his production in college never matched that potential. We'll see if the third-round pick from Ole Miss can finally start to produce like he could in the pros.

Bills | Nick Easley pushing for spot    Sun May 12, 09:16 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Nick Easley has shown to be a 'sharp route runner' during rookie minicamp, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com, and Brown said he has been impressed by Easley's ability to create separation.

Bills | Devin Singletary showing elusiveness    Sun May 12, 09:14 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Devin Singletary showed the ability to avoid defenders in traffic during rookie minicamp, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com. 'There were times where he disappeared into the pile only to come out the other side and into the secondary on a few run plays,' Brown said.

Footballguys view: Singletary is not the biggest or the fastest running back. Instead of relying on those physical traits, Singletary is a natural runner with good instincts for the position. He also gets by on keeping his feet moving upon contact. We'll see him compete for a spot on the depth chart behind LeSean McCoy.

Undrafted free-agent TE Moral Stephens (Florida) signed with the Buffalo Bills Sunday, May 12. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Bills | Six draft picks sign contracts    Fri May 10, 06:21 PM

Buffalo Bills second-round draft choice OT Cody Ford, third-round draft choice RB Devin Singletary, fifth-round draft choice LB Vosean Joseph, sixth-round draft choice S Jaquan Johnson, seventh-round draft choice DE Darryl Johnson Jr. and seventh-round draft choice TE Tommy Sweeney signed four-year contracts with the Bills Thursday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Singletary will likely be a backup and not touching the ball often without injuries to Frank Gore or LeSean McCoy, but he could be the #1 back in 2020. Ford should be an instant starter and it's encouraging that he said he wanted Buffalo to draft him because of new offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, who was previously an assistant for Indianapolis during their dramatic offensive line turnaround last year. He was reportedly a consideration for Cincinnati at #11, but ended up falling to Buffalo at #38.

Bills | Derek Anderson hangs up his cleats    Thu May 9, 07:49 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Derek Anderson informed the team Thursday, May 9, he has retired from the NFL.

Footballguys view: Tyree Jackson is all but assured of making the team now. The highly athletic but raw passer maps well to Josh Allen in style and strengths and already has a connection with him after he stayed at Allen's place in the spring. Jackson played for Buffalo and is a local college football hero, which only helps.

Buffalo Bills first-round DT Ed Oliver (Houston) signed a four-year contract worth $19.675 million on Thursday, May 9. The deal includes a signing bonus of $12.329 million.

Footballguys view: Oliver was one of the best players in the 2019 NFL draft regardless of position. He was regularly compared to Aaron Donald in the pre-draft process and those comparisons may not be too far off. Oliver is a freakish athlete at 280 pounds and should be tasked with splitting through the line of scrimmage to get after the quarterback on a regular basis.

Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah (Lions) is still receiving interest from the Buffalo Bills, and general manager Brandon Beane said he does not believe the Seattle Seahawks are the leading candidate to sign Ansah.

Footballguys view: Ansah is getting interested ramped up for his services since the May 7th deadline passed. After May 7th, the compensatory pick calculation is turned off. A team could add an important free agent like Ansah, play him all they want, and it won't negatively impact the potential compensatory picks they'll be awarded for 2020.
