Bills | Eric Wood close to full strength    Fri May 26, 06:24 PM

Buffalo Bills C Eric Wood (leg) said he is still recovering from his broken fibula but believes he is close to 100 percent.

Bills | Zay Jones injury update    Fri May 26, 02:03 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (knee) is 'progressing well,' according to head coach Sean McDermott. Jones' status remains week-to-week.

Footballguys view: Good news for the rookie here. Jones was one of the most productive players in this draft class at any position. He can become a reliable target for QB Tyrod Taylor, but the rookie needs to get healthy and build chemistry this offseason and through training camp.

Bills | Eric Wood back at practice    Thu May 25, 02:01 PM

Buffalo Bills C Eric Wood (leg) participated in organized team activities Thursday, May 25. Additionally, OG Vladimir Ducasse started at right guard in place of OG John Miller (hip).

  Bills | Charles Clay's knee a concern    Thu May 25, 01:37 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay's (knee) ailing knee continues to be an issue. Head coach Sean McDermott said the knee is a concern to the Bills and something they'll keep an eye on going forward. Clay has participated in drills, but the Bills are taking a cautious approach with his workload.

Footballguys view: Clay's never been a fantasy force, so the wider impact of this is negligible, but it does throw the Bills offensive plans a bit askew, as they liked to use Clay as a blocker and in shorter down and distance. We'll keep watching this, and it's possible they acquire another player. Gary Barnidge could be a solid fit here and he is available. It's a signing that would work better in the NFL than in fantasy though, as the Bills just don't lean on their tight end a ton.

Free-agent LB Gerald Hodges (49ers) is signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills Thursday, May 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Bills | Nathan Peterman signs deal    Wed May 24, 02:06 PM

Buffalo Bills fifth-round draft choice QB Nathan Peterman signed his four-year contract Wednesday, May 24. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Peterman is a sleeper QB to watch (or add) in dynasty leagues. He does a good job of going through his progressions quickly, and Peterman can be an efficient passer on underneath routes. Peterman isn't locked into the checkdown and will challenge a defense vertically with the ultimate confidence. The Bills have Tyrod Taylor as their starter (for now), but the quarterback situation seems to be up in the air beyond 2017.

Bills | Two sign with Bills    Wed May 24, 10:49 AM

Free-agent WR Rod Streater (49ers) and TE Wes Saxton (Redskins) signed undisclosed deals with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: Streater hasn't gotten much interest on the open market and his 60-catch season from 2013 seems like a distant memory. The Bills are full of question marks on the depth chart behind Sammy Watkins, but we're not expecting much from Streater if he does make the 53-man roster. Undrafted out of South Alabama in 2015, Saxton has speed and can be moved around the formation. Saxton will compete with Nick O'Leary and converted QB Logan Thomas for a spot on the depth chart behind starter Charles Clay.

Bills | Rod Streater visiting Bills    Tue May 23, 03:24 PM

Free-agent WR Rod Streater (49ers) is visiting the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, May 23, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Streater hasn't gotten much interest on the open market. The 49ers may just be updating their emergency list here. Streater hasn't done anything in years, and his 60-catch season from 2013 seems like a distant memory.

Bills | Buffalo has several options at punt returner    Sun May 21, 06:45 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Brandon Tate, FS Micah Hyde and CB Tre'Davious White all worked as punt returners during organized team activities last week.

Footballguys view: Tate's best chance of making the 53-man roster comes on special teams. If he doesn't win the primary return man gig, then Tate isn't likely to stand out enough as a wide receiver to make the squad.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor a work in progress    Sat May 20, 10:39 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor needs to 'trust his eyes' more and is still a work in progress when it comes to knowing when and where to throw the ball, according to offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.

Footballguys view: The Bills don't seem terribly sold on Taylor as their future at the position. The new regime kept him around in 2017 (because he restructured his deal) and they should diagnose his play under a microscope this year. Cardale Jones has a big arm, but he's raw as a decision maker. Rookie Nate Peterman will be interesting to watch to see how he develops as a pro. New GM Brandon Beane has declared this an "open competition" at quarterback, but we think it's Taylor's job...for this year at least.

Bills | Andre Holmes pushing for playing time    Sat May 20, 10:30 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Andre Holmes has demonstrated smooth route running and good field awareness during OTAs, and beat writer John Murphy believes Holmes is earning himself more playing time.

Footballguys view: The Bills added Holmes and Corey Brown in free agency to compete for the spot opposite Sammy Watkins. Neither is a great fantasy option even if they win the job. The offense under Rick Dennison is unlikely to feature a second WR enough to be fantasy relevant. Emmanuel Sanders was the no2 WR in a Dennison offense that last two years and he finished no18 and no22 in fantasy points at the position respectively. Holmes or Brown aren't of Sanders caliber.

Bills | LeSean McCoy to be busy?    Sat May 20, 10:02 PM

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said he likes 'ball possession' and believes RB LeSean McCoy, the running game and the offensive line are the strengths of the offense.

Footballguys view: Dennison comes from the Shanahan/Kubiak coaching tree, and that is great news for fantasy owners. Already a top fantasy back anyway, McCoy should eclipse the 203 and 234 carries he's had each of the last two seasons in Buffalo. His current ADP is RB4 (1.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bills | Sammy Watkins targeting training camp    Sat May 20, 09:36 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is not expected to return to the field until training camp begins.

Footballguys view: Watkins has a lot to prove in a contract year..to himself, the Bills and the rest of the league. The Bills didn't pick up his fifth-year option, so his future with the team beyond 2017 is uncertain. Limited to eight games in 2016 (and 13 the year before that), Watkins first needs to show that he can stay healthy and contribute for a full season. If healthy, Watkins has the ability to be one of the most dominant WRs in the league.

Bills | Cordy Glenn not cleared    Fri May 19, 06:09 PM

Buffalo Bills OT Cordy Glenn (ankle, back) has not been cleared to participate in organized team activities because he is still rehabbing from ankle and back injuries he suffered in 2016.

Footballguys view: At this time, there's no concern about Glenn missing time in the regular season. He's likely to be shut down through the offseason but things should ramp up for him near the start of training camp. Rookie OT Dion Dawkins worked with the first-team offense during practice this week.

Bills | Dion Dawkins signs rookie deal with Buffalo    Fri May 19, 03:06 PM

Buffalo Bills second-round pick OT Dion Dawkins signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, May 19. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Dawkins has the length and strength to play outside at tackle, and his athleticism isn't a problem. He's got some things to work on as a pro, as technique and hand placement are issues for the rookie from Temple.

Bills | Zay Jones signs rookie deal     Thu May 18, 04:38 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Jones is currently sidelined with a knee issue, but should be ready for camp. A productive receiver in college who looked faster at the Senior Bowl than was expected, Jones could be a solid producer across from Sammy Watkins. Jones also has the potential to replace Watkins if the Bills let the veteran walk as a free agent next offseason.

Bills | Buffalo signs Tre'Davious White    Thu May 18, 02:10 PM

Buffalo Bills first-round pick CB Tre'Davious White signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: White is the 12th first round pick to come to terms with his team, and it's some good news on a day when one of their other picks - receiver Zay Jones - is dealing with a knee issue. The team needed to counteract losing Stephon Gilmore in free agency to the Patriots and White has the potential to be a very good corner for a long time.

Bills | Zay Jones injured    Thu May 18, 11:34 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (knee), the team's second-round pick in 2017, suffered a knee injury Tuesday, May 16, which the team believes is a sprain. He'll miss some time.

Footballguys view: It isn't a huge concern yet, but for a rookie every snap counts - even those when you're wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Jones has a lot of potential and given Sammy Watkins is always hurt (he's still hampered by his foot issues this week) he could have a big rookie season. He has to be healthy though.

Bills | Several Bills out of OTA action    Thu May 18, 11:30 AM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (undisclosed), OT Cordy Glenn, C Eric Wood (leg), OT Cyrus Kouandjio (hip), WR Kolby Listenbee (hip), RB Jordan Johnson (undisclosed) and TE Blake Annen (undisclosed) are out of organized team activities Thursday, May 18.

Footballguys view: It's too early to worry, and small, nagging injuries to guys getting back into shape aren't a shock. It's the Bills though, which feels like a snakebit franchise sometimes.

Bills | Sammy Watkins out of action    Thu May 18, 11:30 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is not participating in the organized team activities Thursday, May 18.

Footballguys view: This is our surprise face. Watkins has been around a lot so missing a glorified day camp isn't a big deal but the foot is something to watch. As rookie Zay Jones has now hurt his knee, Tyrod Taylor is going to be throwing to a lot of depth chart wannabes in the coming weeks.

Bills | Patrick Lewis may be on bubble    Wed May 17, 02:12 PM

Buffalo Bills C Patrick Lewis could be on the roster bubble during training camp because the team would save $1 million in salary cap space if he is released, in the opinion of the Buffalo News' Jay Skurski.

Bills | Dion Dawkins works at LT    Sun May 14, 07:12 PM

Buffalo Bills OT Dion Dawkins lined up at left tackle during the team's rookie minicamp but is expected to compete for the starting right tackle job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Dawkins is a powerful player with the athleticism and kick leg to stay with rushers on the outside. He relies on his aggression as technique and will need refinement at the position...and he belongs on the right side of the line as a pro. At the very least, Dawkins could develop into a quality guard at the pro level.

Bills | Kolby Listenbee on schedule    Sat May 13, 11:40 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Kolby Listenbee's (hernia) recovery is on schedule, according to head coach Sean McDermott, and the plan is for Listenbee to be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick out of TCU in 2016, Listenbee had to sit out all of his rookie year due to injury. He can flat out fly when healthy at 6'0" 197 pounds. A true vertical threat, Listenbee is strong enough to maintain possession of the ball when contact is made at the catch point. The Bills have a revamped group of wide receivers this year, and in dynasty leagues we're curious as to where Listenbee will end up in the pecking order.

Bills | Zay Jones could be No. 2 WR    Fri May 12, 07:00 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones has a chance to win the No. 2 receiver job if he has a strong offseason and training camp, in the opinion of BuffaloBills.com's Chris Brown.

Footballguys view: There's nobody else there to compete, really. So yes, he should win the number two job. And if the Bills don't keep Sammy Watkins, which they might not as they passed on retaining his fifth year option, Jones could end up as a number one eventually.

Bills | Buffalo hires Brandon Beane    Tue May 9, 06:07 PM

Former Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane was hired as the new general manager of the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, May 9.

Bills | Zay Jones will bring consistency     Sun May 7, 09:33 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones' precise route running will translate to the NFL and make him a consistent receiver for the offense, according to former WR Nate Burleson.

Footballguys view: Jones was one of the most productive players to come out in the 2017 NFL draft. He established the NCAA record for most receptions in a career (399) and the single-season record with 158 catches in 2016 (for 1,746 yards and eight touchdowns). Jones is not the fastest receiver, but he produces at a high level because of his desire and technique. He has the skill set to become QB Tyrod Taylor's best friend on the field.

Bills | Sammy Watkins' extension not a priority    Fri May 5, 12:03 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins is not expected to receive an extension offer during the season, according to the Buffalo News's Vic Carucci, who believes new head coach Sean McDermott's big-picture vision for the roster doesn't include a huge investment in a receiver.

Footballguys view: There's a new sheriff in Buffalo, and it's all about what you do going forward. The Bills surprised many by not picking up the fifth-year option for Watkins before the May 2nd deadline. Watkins needs to prove that he can stay healthy this year...especially if he wants to maximize his value on the free agent market in 2018. If healthy, Watkins has the upside to be a truly dominant player at the position. However, that's a position McDermott isn't putting a lot of stock in for right now.

Bills | Buffalo to interview Brandon Beane    Wed May 3, 06:19 PM

Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane is scheduled to interview for the Buffalo Bills general manager position Thursday, May 4, according to a source.

Bills | Gary Barnidge visiting Bills    Wed May 3, 08:54 AM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) is visiting the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, May 3.

Footballguys view: Barnidge would be a nice fit for the Bills. New offensive coordinator Rick Dennison utilizes two-TE sets quite often, and Barnidge would give the team another quality player at the position to go along with Charles Clay. He does have other interviews set up next week, so a decision may have to wait until he explores all options.

Bills | No option for Sammy Watkins    Tue May 2, 03:25 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins will not have his fifth-year option picked up, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Wow. Just wow. The Bills must be concerned about Watkins suffering another injury as this option is guaranteed only for injury. If he stays healthy and plays up to his massive potential, Watkins is one of the best young WRs in the game today. If Watkins produces at a high level in 2017 then the Bills will have to consider rewarding him with a massive payday.
