Bills | LeSean McCoy decision next week    Fri Feb 12, 12:17 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy could face charges next week, and he was definitely involved in the nightclub incident Sunday, Feb. 7, according to Philadelphia police captain Frank Banford. An arrest warrant could be issued before Wednesday, Feb. 17, according to a source. McCoy's attorney, Larry Krasner, said that McCoy will turn himself in if he's charged.

Bills | Charges coming for LeSean McCoy     Thu Feb 11, 07:41 PM

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy will be facing charges for an alleged nightclub assault he was involved in Sunday, Feb. 7. McCoy is part of an ongoing investigation and the district attorney's office wanted to be thorough before it determined possible charges. McCoy's lawyer said the running back would turn himself in if he is charged.

Footballguys view: This looks pretty bad for Rex Ryan's top running back. McCoy has had a rough last 365 days - being ejected from Philadelphia, being hurt during the season (his first in Buffalo) and now this. We don't know for sure what the future holds up, but it seems very likely that one thing it holds will be an NFL suspension.

Bills | No LeSean McCoy decision Thursday    Thu Feb 11, 10:20 AM

Updating an ongoing story, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy isn't expected to be served a warrant for his arrest Thursday, Feb. 11, a high-ranking police official told ESPN's Mark Schwarz. McCoy is part of an investigation into an alleged nightclub assault against off-duty police officers Sunday, Feb. 7.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly didn't seem to get much right, but dumping LeSean McCoy might have been his rare smart move. McCoy had a decent season when not hurt, but between the injuries and now the headaches, we're not sure what his status will be with the Bills next season. Of course, if he's in jail, that's a moot point.

Bills | Warrant coming for LeSean McCoy?    Tue Feb 9, 10:59 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy might be served with a self-surrender by midweek, law enforcement sources in Philadelphia said Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Footballguys view: McCoy reportedly got into an argument over who should pay for a bottle of champagne. That led to an altercation with off-duty police officers.

Bills | LeSean McCoy case ongoing    Tue Feb 9, 05:04 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy's case was investigated by police and has been turned over to the district attorney's office, which is reviewing it for potential charges. McCoy was allegedly involved in an altercation that sent two off-duty police officers to a Philadelphia area hospital last weekend.

Footballguys view: It all started over a dispute about who was paying for a bottle of champagne. We'll know more about this incident in the near future as the police continue their investigation.

Bills | LeSean McCoy involved in fight    Mon Feb 8, 12:45 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy and a former RB Curtis Brinkley were in an altercation that sent two off-duty police officers to a Philadelphia area hospital over the weekend, according to multiple reports. One of the officers possibly has a fractured skull. The dispute started over a bottle of champagne. None of the men were arrested, but police are seeking arrest warrants. The Bills released this statement: 'We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time.'

Footballguys view: Details are still coming in about this incident, but apparently there was a dispute over who purchased the bottle of champagne. There's a mystery bottle story in here somewhere, but in the meantime we'll just wait for more details to emerge. Brinkley, undrafted out of Syracuse in 2009, hasn't been in the league since the Bears waived him before the start of the 2013 season.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor hopes to remain in Buffalo    Thu Jan 28, 01:33 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 3,035 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and six interceptions in his first season as a starter after spending four years as a little-used backup for the Baltimore Ravens. The first-time Pro Bowler, who added 568 yards and four more touchdowns as a runner, hopes 2015 was the first of many seasons in western New York.

Footballguys view: The Bills are excited by the Pro Bowl quarterback but don't want to repeat the mistake they've made before of overpaying just because a guy had one good season. They'll try to reach an agreement that limits their exposure while Taylor tries to get as much money as possible. he has to know the market is limited though, so we think they come to terms, though it may not happen for some time.

Bills | Robert Woods losing starting job?    Wed Jan 27, 03:22 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods was mentioned in a group of wide receivers by general manager Doug Whaley who are considered not to be No. 2 receivers. Whaley said the Bills have a mix of guys who may not be bona fide No. 2 receivers, but who they can use in different roles.

Footballguys view: The Bills will add more competition to the position this offseason. That's good for them, and it's likely a bad thing for Woods. Dynasty owners should be ready to move on.

Bills | Buffalo looking to improve at receiver    Wed Jan 27, 02:47 PM

The Buffalo Bills appear to be in the market for a viable threat opposite emerging star WR Sammy Watkins. "We'd love to (have a bona fide No. 2 receiver), but we think with the mix of guys we have we can generate a number two receiver. ... We've got a mix of guys who might not be a bona fide number two, but we can use those guys in different roles and have a complementary number two just by mixing some guys in,' general manager Doug Whaley told the team's official website.

Footballguys view: It sounds like the Bills no longer consider Robert Woods a viable starting option. Woods finished the year with only 552 yards and three touchdowns, but he reportedly played most of the season with a groin injury.

Bills | Aaron Williams, Kyle Williams will be back    Wed Jan 27, 01:24 PM

Buffalo Bills FS Aaron Williams (neck) will be back in 2016, according to general manager Doug Whaley. 'Everything we heard, if we would've made the playoffs today, they would've put him in there and activated,' Whaley said. 'So he's ready to go. So we're excited about that.' DT Kyle Williams (knee) is also 'on track,' although he's likely to miss some offseason activities.

Bills | Buffalo GM hesitant about QB class    Wed Jan 27, 01:04 PM

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley doesn't really see a quarterback from the 2016 draft class that would be ready to step into a starting role in the NFL immediately. 'I think it's a deep crop and I think it's a crop that's going to need some time,' Whaley said. 'Now, it depends on their situation, who takes them and what they do. But I would say it's not as top-heavy as last year where those top two guys would still be the top two guys. How quickly these guys can matriculate into the league, I think it's going to take a little bit of time. Maybe a year, maybe a half of a year.'

Footballguys view: We'd summarize this QB class as good but not great. We like Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) and Jared Goff (California) in the 2016 NFL draft class. Both should be first-round picks, and we should also see guys like Connor Cook (Michigan State) and Paxton Lynch (Memphis) go on the first day of the draft. All four have positives and negatives, but there's not really a clear-cut top prospect at the position.

Bills | Buffalo could draft quarterback    Tue Jan 26, 08:19 PM

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said he would consider taking a quarterback early in the draft. 'If [the opportunity] presents itself, it makes sense and it's a guy we like, and we believe in, absolutely,' Whaley said.

Footballguys view: Tyrod Taylor was a fine starter for the Bills this year, but they may be looking to add competition. Whaley has given a couple of halfhearted endorsements to Taylor this offseason in an interesting public display. Due only $1 million in 2016, the Bills may try to work something out long term with Taylor if they feel confident that he can be their franchise quarterback.

Bills | Aaron Williams fully healthy    Tue Jan 26, 05:25 PM

Buffalo Bills FS Aaron Williams (neck) is ready to go for next season and could have played in the playoffs had the Bills made it that far, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are always tricky to recover from. Williams missed the final 11 games of the 2015 season, but he would have been ready for the playoffs if the Bills made it that far. We'll see how Williams responds next year when he starts taking hits again.

Bills | Kyle Williams should be ready for camp    Tue Jan 26, 04:41 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Kyle Williams (knee) is expected to be ready for training camp, according to general manager Doug Whaley. Williams is recovering from meniscus surgery.

Footballguys view: Williams is an important player up front on the Bills defense. Don't be surprised if the Bills hold him out of the entire offseason program due to this injury. They could ramp him up later in training camp if Williams is on track to be ready for Week 1.

Bills | Buffalo wants Percy Harvin back    Fri Jan 22, 12:48 PM

The Buffalo Bills are open to a return of WR Percy Harvin (hip) in 2016, according to general manager Doug Whaley. Harvin's hip problems limited him to just five games this year, and he has an automatic opt-out clause in his contract, which will make him a free agent this offseason.

Footballguys view: Harvin can be a dangerous weapon for the Bills if he's healthy and motivated. Buffalo would likely have to re-sign Harvin to a cost-conscious type of deal since they have limited salary cap space.

Bills | Sammy Watkins thrown to often    Wed Jan 20, 12:59 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins caught passes on 17.3% of the routes that he ran this season, which was the highest reception-to-routes-run rate for a Bills receiver since ESPN started tracking the statistic in 2007. Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (22.6%) led receivers this season in the category. Watkins ranked 13th among qualifying receivers.

Footballguys view: It doesn't take advanced stats to know that Watkins is the biggest part of the team's offense. It's wise to get him involved as much as possible. We've only seen the tip of the iceberg with Watkins, and his best seasons are still ahead of him.

Bills | Percy Harvin remains a question mark    Wed Jan 20, 12:52 PM

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent WR Percy Harvin (hip, knee) still is undecided about his future. 'Percy Harvin was supposed to be a big help for us and we're still not sure what's going on. He's got to make some decisions here coming up. We need to get somebody opposite of Sammy to be a real threat to that defense,' director of player personnel Jim Monos said. The final two years of Harvin's three-year deal will void Feb. 12, or five days after the Super Bowl. He'll count for $1 million in dead money against the 2016 salary cap and another $1 million against the 2017 cap. It' unlikely that the Bills view re-signing Harvin as a priority at this point.

Bills | Sign two wide receivers    Tue Jan 12, 03:27 PM

Free-agent WRs Greg Little (Bengals) and Jarrett Boykin (Panthers) signed Reserve/Futures contracts with the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Footballguys view: We're intrigued by certain players signed to futures deals, but not these two. Even in super-deep dynasty leagues, neither Little or Boykin provide much intrigue or upside.

Bills | Doug Whaley extended    Mon Jan 11, 10:43 AM

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley was signed to a four-year extension Monday, Jan. 11.

Footballguys view: Whaley is known as a risk-taker, but many of his moves have fallen short. His four-year extension makes gives his contract the same length remaining as head coach Rex Ryan. The Bills had a disappointing season in 2015, and it will be interesting to see how Whaley constructs this team going forward.

Bills | Rob Ryan hired by Buffalo    Mon Jan 11, 08:18 AM

The Buffalo Bills hired Rob Ryan as assistant head coach/defense Sunday, Jan. 10.

Footballguys view: The brothers are reunited. Rob Ryan joins Bills head coach Rex Ryan on a team that disappointed defensively in 2015. We'll see if the Bills can turn things around and get more from their defense this season.

Bills | Chris Hogan to become UFA    Thu Jan 7, 07:55 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Chris Hogan is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 15.

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley have one year to turn the Bills around after an 8-8 2015 campaign, according to owner Terry Pegula. Pegula wants the Bills to make the playoffs next season or Whaley and Ryan will be let go.

Footballguys view: Well, it looks like both head coach and general manager are on the hot seat. Whaley and Ryan have one year and four years remaining on their respective contracts.

Bills | Four sign deals with Bills    Tue Jan 5, 09:39 AM

Buffalo Bills RB Mike Gillislee and WR Greg Salas signed contract extensions Monday, Jan. 4. TE Blake Annen and TE Jacob Maxwell were signed to future deals.

Footballguys view: Gillislee was a forgotten man when the Bills picked him up on their practice squad in November. It was barely reported on when he was then promoted to the active roster in early December. Then, all Gillislee did was produce. His final game (24 carries, 28 yards) against the Jets was awful, but before that Gillislee scored three touchdowns over three weeks and always seemed to break off a big play. A fifth-round pick by the Dolphins in 2013, Gillislee seems to have found a home as a change-of-pace runner with the Bills.

Bills | Kyle Williams back in Buffalo?    Mon Jan 4, 08:49 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Kyle Williams said Monday, Jan. 4, that he wishes to return for another season, and as long as he is cleared medically the team is expected to welcome him back.

Footballguys view: The Bills run defense wasn't the same after Williams went down. He should be able to return in 2016, and we think the Bills would be wise to keep him around. Williams does have a $7 million cap number in his age-33 season, so perhaps some restructuring may be done to his deal.

Bills | Sammy Watkins finishes season strong    Sun Jan 3, 06:00 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins caught 11 passes for 136 yards against the New York Jets in Week 17.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor has decent outing    Sun Jan 3, 05:54 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor went 18-for-28 for 182 yards against the New York Jets in Week 17. He also rushed for 51 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries during the game.

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, and 'it doesn't look good' for him to play in Week 17, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: Good! The Bills were dancing around McCoy's status last week, but there's no need to risk long-term injury by playing him in a meaningless Week 17 game. Yes, the Bills can be a thorn in the side of the Jets' playoff picture...but they need to take the long view here.
