Bills | Targeted Gruden Sat Nov 21, 10:22 AM
Paul Peck, of WIVB Buffalo, reports former NFL head coach Jon Gruden was the Buffalo Bills' top choice to replace fired head coach Dick Jauron. According to sources, the team 'went after him hard,' including a face-to-face meeting, but could not convince Gruden to leave his job as analyst on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
| Our view: Gruden has a golden ticket, both in the broadcast booth and in the coaching ranks. He can pretty much write his own ticket, and choose his own path. He may be back as a coach sometime in the near future, but for now it looks like he's just waiting for the right job to open up. Let's hope ESPN doesn't bring in another Tony Kornheiser-like "analyst" when Gruden leaves. The man they call "Chucky" has been very informative and entertaining on Monday night. |

Bills | Fitzpatrick likely to start for rest of the year Thu Nov 19, 11:15 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely start for the rest of the 2009 season.
| Our view: This isn't a great sign for the future of Trent Edwards in Buffalo. Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't exactly light up the scoreboard when he was playing earlier this year - and Edwards looked even worse. |

Greg A. Bedard and Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, report the Buffalo Bills have signed QB Brian Brohm off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
| Our view: The Bills need help at the quarterback position, and there's an outside chance that Brohm could develop into a solid player. He hasn't looked the same since his junior year at Louisville, but he's a smart quarterback that can spread the ball around. |

Bills | To meet with Shanahan next week Wed Nov 18, 07:29 PM
Updating a previous item, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Buffalo Bills have a meeting set up for next week with free-agent head coach Mike Shanahan (Broncos). Shanahan is willing to listen to what the Bills have to say about their vacant head coaching job.
| Our view: We doubt the Bills will pony up the amount of money necessary to secure Shanahan's services, but at least they're trying. |
Bills | Other options for head coach Wed Nov 18, 03:47 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN.com, reports the Buffalo Bills could consider UFL head coach Jim Haslett and New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride for the head coaching position next season. Another candidate could be Canadian Football League coach Marc Trestman.

Bills | In contact with Shanahan Wed Nov 18, 03:33 PM
ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reports the Buffalo Bills have spoken with free-agent head coach Mike Shanahan (Broncos).
| Our view: When Adam Schefter speaks, we listen -- especially when it has to do with the Denver Broncos or their former head coach Mike Shanahan. It seems unlikely the Bills would be able to pay the kind of price that Shanahan will demand when he returns to the NFL. |
Bills | Fitzpatrick to start Week 11 Wed Nov 18, 02:13 PM
Updating previous reports, Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell said QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in Week 11.
| Our view: The Bills are going back to Fitzpatrick after Trent Edwards returned from his injury and failed to impress. We saw earlier in the year that Fitzpatrick is not afraid to take chances with the football. He showed good chemistry with Lee Evans, and we expect that trend to continue now that Fitzpatrick is back in the starting lineup. |

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports the Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent TE Joe Klopfenstein (Rams). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bills | Jauron fired Tue Nov 17, 03:02 PM
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday, Nov. 17, according to sources. The team does not currently have an interim coach in place.
| Our view: This move appears to be at least a few months late. The Bills have been able to hang with good teams for at least a few quarters despite poor QB play and numerous injuries on defense, so maybe shaking things up could help them stay competitive deeper into the game. |
Bills | Fitzgerald expected to start in Week 11 Tue Nov 17, 01:27 PM
Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, reports Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start the team's Week 11 game, according to a league source.
| Our view: Not that things will change dramatically, but at least Fitzpatrick is willing to take risks to move the offense. |

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills S Donte Whitner (ankle) dressed for the team's Week 10 game, but he did not get into the game. Head coach Dick Jauron said, "Donte knew he was going to dress and I told him we didn't know if he would see action or no. He was up kind of as an emergency. I liked the way he had worked last week, but it was his first week back of work and I thought he was close to being ready and we would have used him if we had to in that game. We expect that he'll just keep getting better this week in practice."

The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens (hip) has declared himself ready to play in the team's Week 10 game after practicing Friday, Nov. 13. Owens said he fell asleep on his couch Monday, Nov. 9, after practice, and woke up feeling stiff the next morning. He was held out of practice during the week, and the team said he had a strained hip. 'Earlier in the week it was painful, but I knew I would be ready,' Owens said.
