Bills | LeSean McCoy trade was quick    Tue Mar 24, 01:31 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles March 4, and Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the trade took 30 minutes to wrap up. 'The trade for LeSean happened really quick,' Ryan said at the NFL owners meetings. 'We were all sitting there. We were having organizational meetings. ... And all of the sudden we get this call from Philadelphia and I think that was when the trade started. Probably 30 minutes later, the trade was done.'

Footballguys view: The Bills don't mess around. They wanted McCoy to be the centerpiece of their offense, and now he will be. McCoy should have a hefty workload and is a RB1 for fantasy owners.

Bills | LeSean McCoy Buffalo's bellcow    Tue Mar 24, 10:31 AM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was referred to as the team's 'bellcow' by head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said that McCoy and RB Fred Jackson could see time on third downs.

Footballguys view: He's the centerpiece of the offense, and fantasy will love the size of his workload--provided he can stay healthy. McCoy is a RB1, but consider him a low-end RB1 due to the Bills' poor offensive line.

Bills | Heavy workload for LeSean McCoy?    Sat Mar 21, 08:48 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy should receive plenty of carries if head coach Rex Ryan has his way. 'We prefer to ground and pound it, we're going to run it 50 times if we can on you,' Ryan said Friday, March 20.

Footballguys view: McCoy is going to get everything he can handle in 2015 and beyond. The Bills made the move to acquire the superstar running back so he could be the centerpiece of the offense.

Bills | Rex Ryan committed to the run    Sat Mar 21, 06:57 PM

Buffalo Bills RBs LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson are expected to receive a lot of carries in head coach Rex Ryan's offense. Ryan went as far as to say: 'we're going to run it 50 times if we can on you.'

Footballguys view: That's why they have LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson. The mindset makes a ton of sense, especially when you consider they have Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback.

Bills | Rex Ryan expects competition at QB    Sat Mar 21, 01:46 PM

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor will compete for the starting quarterback job during offseason workouts and training camp, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: The Bills made a big push to add competition around Manuel this year. Cassel is the veteran with the most experience, but his rigid pocket-passing skill set is not dangerous. Taylor is incredibly fast and has a rocket arm, but he lacks the touch and accuracy to be a good starter. We'll be interested to see how this whole thing works out during camp.

Bills | Buffalo willing to run a lot    Sat Mar 21, 01:45 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the team would prefer to be a running team next season. 'We prefer to ground and pound it, we're going to run it 50 times if we can on you,' Ryan said. Ryan said he knows the offense has to be balance, which is why the team signed TE Charles Clay and WR Percy Harvin this offseason.

Footballguys view: LeSean McCoy is going to be the centerpiece of the offense with Fred Jackson serving as a valuable backup. Matt Cassel is likely to be their starter, and that means the Bills' passing game won't be too strong. We'll see how they'll shape their offense in camp.

Bills | EJ Manuel to have competition    Sat Mar 21, 12:44 AM

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is not locked in as the starting quarterback. Head coach Rex Ryan said Friday, March 20, that the quarterback competition will be open. 'It's a competition and whoever earns the job will be the guy that's out there,' Ryan said. 'We have some talented guys and we'll see what happens. You bring in a veteran like (QB Matt Cassel). He's done some pretty good things in this league. He's got that veteran presence about him. With EJ back there just going into his third year I really believe EJ is going to improve with his fundamentals having (QB coach David Lee) here.'

Footballguys view: Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are the competition, so that loosely defines the meaning. It's an odd combination of quarterbacks because Cassel is the veteran pocket passer with experience while Taylor is supremely athletic and has a rocket arm (with little control). We'll see who can come out on top in training camp.

Bills | Matt Cassel will have shot to start    Sat Mar 21, 12:43 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel will have a chance to win the starting quarterback job in training camp and the preseason. He's got that veteran presence about him.'

Footballguys view: We feel confident that Cassel can win the starting job. Now, that's not to say he's going to have much--if any--fantasy relevance. The Bills are going to be a run-heavy offense in 2015 featuring LeSean McCoy.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor will have chance to start    Sat Mar 21, 12:42 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will be given a chance to start, fighting in a three-way battle with QBs Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel Head coach Rex Ryan said Friday, March 20, that the quarterback competition will be open. 'It's a competition and whoever earns the job will be the guy that's out there,' Ryan said. 'We have some talented guys and we'll see what happens.'

Footballguys view: Taylor is an interesting prospect, but we've never considered him starter's material. Instead, he's more of a super-athletic backup. We'll see if Taylor can win the job over Cassel or Manuel.

Bills | Buffalo expected to land Charles Clay    Wed Mar 18, 02:49 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay is expected to land with the Buffalo Bills after signing a five-year, $38 million offer sheet with Buffalo Tuesday, March 17, according to a source. The Dolphins have five days to match the offer sheet, but they aren't expected to. Clay is set to make $24.5 million in the first two years of the deal. The total deal is 'only for $38 million for five years. Miami's last offer to Clay was for four years and $27 million, including less than $14 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: The Bills have made a big run at Clay, and they're likely to land him. He's a talented move tight end with the versatility to line up all over the field. Buffalo's offense will be centered around RB LeSean McCoy, but it's good to have quality weapons like Clay around QB Matt Cassel.

Bills | Buffalo officially signs Percy Harvin    Wed Mar 18, 02:05 PM

Free-agent WR Percy Harvin (Jets) officially signed with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, March 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but earlier reports stated it is a one-year deal.

Footballguys view: Finally! This deal has been talked about for quite some time, and now it's official. Harvin likely gets a "prove it" deal from the Bills here. He doesn't want to be labeled as a "gadget player" but he needs to prove he can stay healthy and focused as a wide receiver. We'll see how he fits in on what should be a run-heavy offense featuring RB LeSean McCoy.

Bills | Charles Clay signs offer sheet from Bills    Tue Mar 17, 07:27 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay signed an offer sheet from the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, March 17. The Dolphins have five days to match the offer.

Footballguys view: We think the Dolphins will let him go. If they decline to match the Bills' offer sheet, they will receive no compensation for losing Clay as he was tagged as a transitional player.

Bills | Kraig Urbik restructures    Tue Mar 17, 10:46 AM

Bills | Buffalo has good shot at Charles Clay    Mon Mar 16, 06:06 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay visited with the Buffalo Bills late last week, and the Bills have a '90%' chance of landing him, according to a source close to the situation. The Bills plan to follow through with their plan to sign him to an offer sheet. Head coach Rex Ryan has been the driving force in the pursuit of Clay. Buffalo continues to study their salary cap numbers and those of the Dolphins.

Footballguys view: The Bills have been hot and heavy after Clay even though the Dolphins placed a transition tag on him at the start of free agency. That has not dismayed them, and they are the favorite to land the talented (and versatile) move tight end.

Bills | Percy Harvin wants more normal role    Mon Mar 16, 04:48 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Percy Harvin is making it a priority to shed the reputation of being a 'gadget' player and focus more on being a traditional wide receiver.

Footballguys view: Harvin has stated displeasure with his "gadget" label, but he may not like what Buffalo has in store for him. He'll be the second WR behind Sammy Watkins on a run-heavy team that features RB LeSean McCoy.

Bills | Bills expected to land Charles Clay?    Sat Mar 14, 09:45 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay is not expected to return to the team, and the Dolphins expect him to sign with the Buffalo Bills, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Footballguys view: The Bills have made it very clear they want Clay on the team. If signed away, the Dolphins get no compensation as Clay was a transition-tagged player. Clay is a versatile player who can attack the seam. In Buffalo's run-heavy system, Clay would be a valuable asset for the passing game.

Bills | Buffalo will make offer to Charles Clay    Fri Mar 13, 05:06 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay will not receive an offer from the Buffalo Bills Friday, March 13, but the Bills will make an offer in the near future, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bills are hot and heavy after Clay--and for good reason. He's a versatile player who can attack defenses down the seam and after the catch as a receiver. With the Dolphins signing Jordan Cameron on Thursday, we could see them let Clay go--without compensation.

Bills | Percy Harvin agrees to terms with BUF    Fri Mar 13, 03:35 PM

Free-agent WR Percy Harvin (Jets) has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year deal, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: A curious move here. Harvin is a talented player but his attitude may not sit well on a team that is going to be run-heavy under new head coach Rex Ryan. Catching passes from Matt Cassel isn't exactly going to spark a career-best season for Harvin--especially since he's the second target behind Sammy Watkins.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor signs     Thu Mar 12, 06:40 PM

Free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor (Ravens) signed a two-year deal with the Buffalo Bills Thursday, March 12. The deal is worth $7 million if Taylor starts, according to a source, and has $1.2 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: The Bills still look for an answer to quarterback, but really Taylor is just cheap insurance as it is unlikely he starts with Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel there. Then again, it wasn't that long ago when Buffalo was rotating quarterbacks in a weekly basis, so perhaps he might see that money. We wouldn't want him to as we would expect Taylor to kill Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods fantasy value.

Bills | Two returning to Buffalo    Thu Mar 12, 10:29 AM

Free-agent WR Marcus Easley and DE Jarius Wynn agreed to re-sign with the Buffalo Bills Thursday, March 12.

Footballguys view: Easley has never done much, and even his stock in super deep dynasty leagues is close to non-existent. Wynn got some pressure on the quarterback last year as a part-time player and he gives the Bills good depth on the defensive line.

Bills | Scott Chandler released by Bills    Wed Mar 11, 05:18 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler was released Wednesday, March 11. The Bills are preparing to make an offer to free-agent TE Charles Clay (Dolphins).

Footballguys view: Clay would fit in the Bills offense as a versatile blocker and receiver. The Dolphins could then look to Jordan Cameron to fill the void left by Clay. Cleveland has also been rumored to be making a strong bid for Clay.

Bills | Buffalo wants Percy Harvin    Wed Mar 11, 12:30 PM

Free-agent WR Percy Harvin (Jets) ideally would like to be in a high-octane offense on a one-year, prove-it deal, but the Buffalo Bills are throwing money around and are trying to sign Harvin to a one-year deal.

Footballguys view: Harvin might want to continue to play under Rex Ryan, who is famous for being a "player's coach". With Matt Cassel at quarterback, adding Harvin to the run after catch threat that Sammy Watkins presents could give the passing game some more punch.

Bills | Kyle Williams receives extension    Wed Mar 11, 12:19 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Kyle D. Williams has signed a one-year contract extension worth $10.5 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bills kept Jerry Hughes earlier this week, so their fearsome front four has been preserved for the first year of the Rex Ryan era. It looks like you'll want to bench your QBs against them again this year.

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay is preparing to head to the Buffalo Bills, who are preparing an offer sheet for Clay that will make it difficult for the Dolphins to match, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Clay is reportedly looking for places to live in Buffalo. The Dolphins will have five days to match a deal that the Bills offer, and Buffalo wouldn't have to give up anything if they sign Clay.

Bills | Interested in Darrelle Revis    Tue Mar 10, 05:50 PM

Free-agent CB Darrelle Revis (Patriots) is receiving interest from the Buffalo Bills, according to sources.

Bills | Buffalo officially adds LeSean McCoy    Tue Mar 10, 05:12 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy has officially been traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso.

Footballguys view: The Bills get their man--officially--here. McCoy will be the centerpiece of the offense in Buffalo. He'll get plenty of touches as the lead back for the Bills, and McCoy is obviously still a RB1 for fantasy owners.

Bills | Jerome Felton signs    Tue Mar 10, 04:56 PM

Free-agent FB Jerome Felton (Vikings) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: The Bills are going to blast open holes for their ground game in 2015 with a guy like Felton. LeSean McCoy is the centerpiece of the offense, and having Felton will help immensely. Felton was the lead blocker for Adrian Peterson (Vikings) when he rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2012.

Bills | Buffalo ready to sign Charles Clay    Tue Mar 10, 03:39 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent TE Charles Clay will likely receive an offer from the Buffalo Bills in the near future, according to a source. Buffalo reportedly has an offer ready for Clay once free agency officially begins Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: Clay is a transition tagged player for the Dolphins. This gives him a one-year guaranteed salary around $7 million. The Dolphins have the right to match any contract offer he gets from other teams. If lost, Miami would receive no compensation for Clay.

Bills | Fred Jackson not going anywhere    Mon Mar 9, 01:55 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson 'isn't going anywhere,' according to a team source.

Footballguys view: The team can't get rid of Jackson just because they traded for LeSean McCoy. Yes, McCoy will be the lead back and the centerpiece of the offense. However, Jackson is an incredibly valuable backup who can do more than just give McCoy an occasional breather.

Bills | Jerry Hughes re-signs with Buffalo    Mon Mar 9, 09:37 AM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent DE Jerry Hughes agreed to a five-year deal with the Bills Monday, March 9. The deal is reportedly worth $45 million, but a source close to the team said the amount was inaccurate.

Footballguys view: The Bills keep a fantastic pass-rusher here. Hughes has 19.5 sacks over the last two years in Buffalo, and he's been a strong run-defender as well. It's clear the Bills want to run the ball with LeSean McCoy and play incredible defense to win in 2015. Keeping Hughes is huge for this team.

Bills | Bilal Powell headed to Buffalo?    Sun Mar 8, 06:01 PM

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) may be headed toward the Buffalo Bills and a reunion with head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: We could see that happening. The Bills are letting C.J. Spiller leave in free agency, and they traded for LeSean McCoy to be their featured back. Fred Jackson will be the primary backup, but the team needs depth behind him. That's where Powell comes in. He's a good all-purpose runner, but his fantasy stock isn't that high--even if somehow/someway he stumbled into a larger role.

Bills | LeSean McCoy contract update    Sun Mar 8, 01:02 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal worth $40 million.

Bills | LeSean McCoy to receive new deal    Sun Mar 8, 12:24 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal with the Bills, according to a source. McCoy will receive more guaranteed money up front as part of the new deal.

Footballguys view: McCoy gets what he wants (more money), and the Bills get what they want (a featured running back). Everybody is happy here. Fantasy owners can look at McCoy as a low-end RB1. A low-end RB1 because of the continued presence of Fred Jackson and Buffalo's offensive line needs some work.

Bills | Buffalo may make offer to Charles Clay    Sun Mar 8, 11:11 AM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent TE Charles Clay is expected to receive a multi-year offer from the Buffalo Bills, according to a source. The Dolphins placed the transition tag on Clay and would have seven days to match the offer if he signs with the Bills.

Footballguys view: The Bills are making some bold moves here...no surprise given their new head coach is Rex Ryan. Clay is a transition tagged player, meaning he's got a one-year guaranteed salary of around $7 million coming from the Dolphins (if he stays). The Dolphins have the ability to match any contract offer Clay receives, but they will not receive any compensation if he moves on.

Bills | LeSean McCoy nearing new deal    Sat Mar 7, 04:28 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is likely to have a new contract when the 2015 league year begins Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: The Bills are going to restructure McCoy's contract, then he's going to be the centerpiece of their offense. He's likely to be a RB1 for fantasy owners, but the presence of Fred Jackson may keep McCoy's value around RB10-12.

Bills | May go after Mike Iupati    Fri Mar 6, 07:35 AM

Free-agent OL Mike Iupati (49ers) may be targeted by the Buffalo Bills when free agency opens Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: Iupati is a FANTASTIC run-blocker, and he might be the best guard available on the open market. The Bills are going to have an offense built around LeSean McCoy in 2015, and adding Iupati would greatly benefit their run-heavy scheme.

Bills | LeSean McCoy ready to move on    Wed Mar 4, 11:08 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is 'ready to move on' a day after he was informed the Philadelphia Eagles planned to trade him to the Bills, a source close to the running back said Wednesday, March 4.

Footballguys view: McCoy is a fiery player, so he's going to be playing pissed off in 2015. This is good news for the Bills (and fantasy owners) as McCoy is going to be the centerpiece of the offense.

The Buffalo Bills acquired QB Matt Cassel from the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, March 4, for an undisclosed draft pick.

Footballguys view: The Bills get their quarterback here. Cassel is not an exciting option, but he's a decent starter who can thrive with good weapons around him. The Bills are going to play insane defense and run the ball early and after with LeSean McCoy in 2015.

Bills | LeSean McCoy unhappy with trade    Wed Mar 4, 10:54 AM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is unhappy with the trade to the Bills, according to a source close to him. 'He's a Pennsylvania kid. He's never played football outside of Pennsylvania,' the source said. 'So of course he's not happy. Sounds like it's pretty final to me unless LeSean is refusing to go to Buffalo.' When the source was asked if McCoy was going to make the trade difficult, they said: 'he's not going to make it easy, that's for sure.'

Footballguys view: McCoy will be alright. The Bills fans will love and embrace a superstar like McCoy, and he'll get the ball a ton in Rex Ryan's offense.

Bills | C.J. Spiller won't return to Buffalo    Tue Mar 3, 07:28 PM

Footballguys view: This is not even a question mark after the Bills made the trade to add superstar running back LeSean McCoy. This is a tough running back market, so Spiller might not get a white-hot response in free agency.

Bills | LeSean McCoy will be costly for BUF    Tue Mar 3, 06:58 PM

Bills | EJ Manuel still Bills' top QB option    Sat Feb 28, 02:16 PM

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel still seems to be the No. 1 option at quarterback, for now, with Josh McCown heading to the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: That's not a great plan for the Bills. Buffalo could still add a quarterback in free agency or the draft. This is not a strong class either way, and Buffalo doesn't yet have a long-term answer at quarterback.
