Bills | Robert Woods has his speed back    Fri May 27, 09:23 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods said he feels like he has his speed back this year and expects to be able to create separation from defenders.

Bills | Reggie Ragland signs deal    Tue May 24, 06:29 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Reggie Ragland signed his four-year rookie contract Tuesday, May 24. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ragland is a throwback linebacker who arrives at the ball-carrier with nasty intentions. He sees the field well, and his high football intelligence allows him to read the play as it unfolds in front of him. He's athletic enough to work well in zone coverage, and Ragland can even add some punch as a rusher if needed.

Bills | Sammy Watkins on crutches    Tue May 24, 12:51 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was seen on crutches with his left foot in a boot during organized team activities Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: He's still on crutches and might be for a little while longer. General manager Doug Whaley said Watkins is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Bills | Marcell Dareus not at workouts    Tue May 24, 12:49 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus (foot) is not present for the start of organized team activities Tuesday, May 24, but head coach Rex Ryan is not concerned.

Footballguys view: We learned earlier this year that Dareus had undergone surgery on his broken foot, but he was supposed to be cleared in time for OTAs. Ryan said Dareus has taken part in roughly '90%' of offseason activities and has been a 'fixture.'

Bills | Charles Clay out of action    Tue May 24, 12:44 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (undisclosed) was absent from practice Tuesday, May 24, with an undisclosed injury. Head coach Rex Ryan doesn't think Clay's injury is serious.

Footballguys view: This is not a good way for Clay to begin his second season with the Bills. Last year, Clay was held back by injury and turned in a disappointing season. With WR Sammy Watkins (foot) banged up (and not much behind him at WR), the Bills could certainly use Clay in a larger role as a receiver in 2016.

Bills | Sammy Watkins expected for opener    Tue May 24, 09:52 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is expected to be ready for Week 1, but the team doesn't have a target date for his return set, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: Watkins is on crutches right now which is not unexpected given his foot surgery. He is likely to be limited in camp and we may not even see Watkins in the preseason as he recovers.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor wants to open up offense    Sun May 22, 08:56 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor expects more out of the offense because he has a year of experience under his belt, and he wants to open up the passing game.

Footballguys view: Taylor proved a lot as a passer during his first year as a starter in the NFL. He has a rocket arm, but Taylor can throw deep with timing, touch and accuracy. The nature of a Rex Ryan offense is to run, run, run...but we'd like to see Taylor get a chance to do more through the air.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor wants healthy Sammy Watkins    Sat May 21, 11:29 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor said he is not worried about the injury to WR Sammy Watkins (foot) hurting their chemistry with each other. 'We've been talking together and getting on the same page,' Taylor said. 'We want on the field work obviously, but we'll get that when the time comes. The main thing is that he gets healthy so he can play at the level that we know he's capable of playing at.'

Footballguys view: Watkins is tremendously talented, but he's already battled through various injuries in two years as a pro and now he's got to come back from foot surgery. Perhaps his career will turn out like former Rams WR Isaac Bruce who had to fight injuries for a bit before playing like a star in the NFL. The Bills offense will flow through the rushing attack, but when Taylor goes to the air he'll be looking for Watkins early and often. Watkins has a current ADP of WR16 (3.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bills | Better year for Charles Clay?    Sat May 21, 02:53 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay is expected to be more productive in his second season with the Bills, according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. More looks his way and better health are considered to be two key factors in what Buffalo hopes to be a better season for Clay.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to take note here. Clay is currently going undrafted in 12-team PPR leagues, and he should certainly be able to outperform expectations after a disappointing year in 2015. Back with the Dolphins in 2013, Clay was the 7th-best fantasy TE with 69 catches, 759 yards and six touchdowns. The injury to Sammy Watkins, and the questionable talent behind Watkins at the WR position, could force Clay to get more than the 51 receptions he had last year.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor impressed with two WRs    Sat May 21, 11:17 AM

Buffalo Bills WRs Greg Salas and Leonard Hankerson have had strong performances during offseason workouts, according to QB Tyrod Taylor.

Footballguys view: Taylor may be impressed, but we're going to have to wait and see with these veterans. Salas can get open on quick routes, but his hands need to be more consistent. Hankerson is a big-bodied target who could be used more in the red zone. Neither has great fantasy value.

Bills | Robert Woods looking good    Sat May 21, 11:16 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods has looked explosive during offseason workouts after dealing with injuries in 2015, according to QB Tyrod Taylor.

Footballguys view: Woods has natural/physical talent, but he's never been able to put it all together as a pro. In this run-first offense, we just don't see a lot of fantasy production for Woods in 2016.

Bills | No deals for Andre Roberts, Jamari Lattimore    Fri May 20, 07:25 PM

Free-agent WR Andre Roberts (Redskins) and LB Jamari Lattimore (Jets) met with the Buffalo Bills earlier this week, but both players left the visits without a contract.

Footballguys view: The Bills are kicking the tires on Roberts as they will be missing WR Sammy Watkins until the start of the regular season. They could always end up signing Roberts at some time before training camp if they need an extra body at the position. Roberts did nothing during his time with Washington, but there should be at least a few teams interested in the veteran receiver.

Bills | Jamari Lattimore visits    Thu May 19, 07:45 PM

Free-agent LB Jamari Lattimore (Jets) visited the Buffalo Bills Thursday, May 19.

Footballguys view: Rex Ryan loves to collect former Jets so Lattimore could get a shot as the Bills try to right their listing ship of a defense.

Bills | Andre Roberts visiting Bills    Thu May 19, 10:35 AM

Free-agent WR Andre Roberts (Redskins) is visiting the Buffalo Bills Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20. He has two more visits scheduled after that.

Footballguys view: The Bills might need a camp body with Sammy Watkins hurt. Roberts would have a chance to stick though, as nobody beyond Watkins has shown enough to be assured of a roster spot or targets.

Bills | Dri Archer doesn't count towards roster    Wed May 18, 03:35 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Dri Archer was placed on the Reserve/Did Not Report list Wednesday, May 18. He is now technically not part of the 90-man roster.

Footballguys view: Dri Archer is a track star with limited football skills and might have struggled to make the roster anyway. We're unsure why he didn't report (or really, why he ended up on the list) and so we are unclear as to what his future with the Bills or the NFL is.

Bills | Sammy Watkins should miss preseason    Mon May 16, 05:20 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is not expected to play in the preseason after undergoing foot surgery three weeks ago.

Footballguys view: So long as he's ready for Week 1. We'll know more about Watkins' recovery later this offseason. All signs currently point to him being ready when the games start to count. Stay tuned.

Bills | Shaq Lawson out 5-6 months    Mon May 16, 05:12 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) is expected to be out five to six months.

Footballguys view: This is different from earlier reports that suggested Lawson would be ready for the start of the regular season. We're in mid-May, so five months would be sometime in October. Chances are good that the team's 2016 first-round pick begins the regular season on the PUP list. That would force Lawson to miss the first six weeks of the year. After that, the Bills would have three weeks to decide whether or not to activate him or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Bills | Sammy Watkins has broken bone    Mon May 16, 04:35 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) suffered a broken small bone in his foot and had a screw inserted, according to a source. He should still be ready for training camp, however.

Footballguys view: The training camp timeline is incredibly optimistic. We think Watkins won't play in the preseason and will only sparingly see time in practice late in August. The team wants him ready for Week 1 of the regular season, and he should be ready unless Watkins suffers a setback during his recovery.

Bills | Shaq Lawson to have surgery    Mon May 16, 02:50 PM

Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) will undergo surgery on his injured shoulder Tuesday, May 17.

Footballguys view: Lawson had previously said that he did not need shoulder surgery, but this was a problem that was flagged at the combine. The Bills are optimistic that Lawson will be ready for Week 1. However, the team could put him on the PUP list to begin the regular season if he's not yet fully recovered.

Bills | Kolby Listenbee working on routes    Sat May 14, 11:53 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Kolby Listenbee said he has more to offer than simply being a speed receiver, and he said he believes working with wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal will help him perfect his routes and timing and become a more all-around receiver.

Footballguys view: Listenbee led TCU in yards-per-catch average (19.9) in 2015. He's a track star who plays football. We like the fact the rookie wants to be better as a route-runner, but his best asset is that long speed. He can take the top off the defense quickly, and Listenbee does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. He's not much of a run-blocker and is only going to be a sub-package player if he makes the 53-man roster.

Link to story

Bills | Kolby Listenbee signs Bills deal    Thu May 12, 01:28 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Kolby Listenbee signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 12.

Footballguys view: After Sammy Watkins there is a lot of room on the roster to make some noise. Of course, Tyrod Taylor limits your looks (after Watkins, Robert Woods caught the next most catches -80- but for just over 500 yards). We like Listenbee, but would be cautious about trusting any Bills receiver aside from Watkins.

Bills | Kevon Seymour signs rookie deal    Wed May 11, 01:45 PM

Buffalo Bills CB Kevon Seymour signed his rookie contract Wednesday, May 11.

Footballguys view: The Bills picked up Seymour out of USC in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He's got the speed to stick in the NFL, but Seymour's best chance of making the 53-man roster as a rookie will come as a special teams player.

Bills | Buffalo to start at least three rookies    Wed May 11, 01:26 PM

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said the team will be starting at least three rookies in 2016. 'At least three,' Whaley replied. 'Shaq Lawson is going to walk in off the bus starting. Reggie Ragland and then Adolphus Washington -- all three of those guys will start right off the bus. And we're excited for some guys from the fourth through sixth rounds that will contribute for us.'

Footballguys view: We'd agree with Whaley about those three starters. The Bills only generated 21 sacks last season, so the defense needed the shot in the arm the draft likely provided. We like what the Bills did in the draft, and one of our favorite sleeper RBs in Jonathan Williams (Arkansas). The Bills snared him in the fifth round, and Williams has the ability to be a quality starter at pro level. Yes, he's currently buried on the depth chart but fantasy owners (especially dynasty owners) need to know his game.

Bills | Dri Archer claimed    Tue May 10, 07:12 PM

Free-agent WR Dri Archer (Jets) was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Archer will have a difficult time cracking the Bills roster as they are stacked at the RB position. Even as a slot WR or return man, we don't see how Archer makes the 53-man roster.

Bills | Cardale Jones works on footwork    Tue May 10, 09:56 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Cardale Jones has spent a lot of time with quarterbacks coach David Lee working on three- and five-step drops. 'At Ohio State I didn't really have a stance under center because I was never under center,' said Jones. 'I talked to (Lee) after practice and he showed me two things I was doing, which was showing up every once in a while. Those things were dropping my elbow and staggering my feet.'

Footballguys view: Jones is far from a finished product as a passer. He's big, has a strong arm and can keep plays alive with his feet. However, he needs to improve his consistency and accuracy from the pocket. That all starts with footwork. Jones is an intriguing prospect we're all over in dynasty leagues.

Bills | Cardale Jones has work to do    Fri May 6, 04:44 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Cardale Jones has a long way to go before he is ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said he believes Jones is in a good situation since he can sit behind QBs Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel while he develops his skills.

Footballguys view: Jones could get a shot as soon as 2017 if Tyrod Taylor falters or can't stay healthy this year. The fourth-round pick's huge frame and fearless running style make him a potential goal line back if he is the starting quarterback, which always interests us in fantasy.

Bills | Looking to work out deal with Stephon Gilmore    Tue May 3, 10:57 PM

Buffalo Bills CB Stephon Gilmore is a player the team would like to lock up with a long-term contract. General manager Doug Whaley said Tuesday, May 3, that he is 'supremely confident there's a chance' the team can get a deal done with Gilmore.

Footballguys view: With left tackle Cordy Glenn getting a new long-term deal, the Bills can now move on to other key players. Gilmore is in the final year of his contract, and his fifth-year option is going to pay him $11 million this year.

Bills | Buffalo wants to lock up Tyrod Taylor    Tue May 3, 10:57 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is a player the team wants to lock up with a long-term deal, and general manager Doug Whaley said Tuesday, May 3, he is 'supremely confident there's a chance' a deal will get done.

Footballguys view: Things change quickly around here. Not that long ago, there were rumblings that Taylor may be unhappy with the Bills and the team could move on. Now, (with LT Cordy Glenn wrapped up) the team is looking to get a new deal with Taylor done. Taylor is only making $1 million this year which is incredibly low considering that a guy like Mark Sanchez (Broncos) is making $4.5 million.

Bills | Cordy Glenn agrees to deal    Tue May 3, 06:23 PM

Buffalo Bills OT Cordy Glenn agreed to terms on a five-year deal Tuesday, May 3. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, Glenn has become one of the league's best at the left tackle position. It was a wise move for the Bills to lock him up. Now they can move onto new deals for CB Stephon Gilmore and perhaps even QB Tyrod Taylor.

Bills | EJ Manuel's option not picked up    Mon May 2, 06:40 PM

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel's fifth-year option is not being picked up by the team.

Footballguys view: Manuel was the first and only QB drafted in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. It was just a bad year for QBs, and Manuel has not impressed in the NFL. He's struggled to stay healthy and lost his job to Tyrod Taylor last year. This is likely to be his last season with the Bills.

Bills | Buffalo adds UDFAs    Sun May 1, 10:04 PM

The Buffalo Bills agreed to terms with undrafted free-agents DE Bryson Albright (Miami), WR Davonte Allen (Marshall), WR Gary Chambers (Arizona State), C Robert Kulger (Purdue), OL Jamison Lalk (Iowa State), QB Joe Licata (Buffalo), PK Marshall Morgan (Georgia), LB Eric Striker (Oklahoma), CB Julian Whigham (Syracuse) and DL Justin Zimmer (Ferris State) Sunday, May 1.

Jets | Sign Jason Vander Laan    Sun May 1, 02:17 PM

Free-agent QB Jason Vander Laan (Ferris State) signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Jets Sunday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Vander Laan is built like a linebacker at 6'3" 243, and he's as athletic as some starting linebackers in the NFL. The Jets pick of Christian Hackenberg got a lot of attention, but Vander Laan's development is also worth watching.

Bills | Glenn Gronkowski heads to Buffalo    Sat Apr 30, 11:50 PM

Undrafted free-agent RB Glenn Gronkowski (Kansas State) has agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal with the Buffalo Bills Saturday, April 30.

Footballguys view: The final of the Gronkowski brothers, Glenn is a Fullback/H-back 'tweener. He would regularly line up in the slot then motion to the backfield as a lead blocker at Kansas State. That's what he'll do now if he makes the Bills.

Bills | Kolby Listenbee had surgery    Sat Apr 30, 04:32 PM

Buffalo Bills rookie WR Kolby Listenbee played all of the 2015 season at Texas Christian University with a sports hernia. Listenbee underwent surgery on the hernia following the NFL Combine.

Footballguys view: Listenbee has height, good hands and solid ball skills as well as the second gear to threaten defenses deep. His frame is too thin, and he's slow in and out of the breaks though, and he was inconsistent on hos deep routes last year.

Bills | Jonathan Williams going to Buffalo    Sat Apr 30, 03:14 PM

Former Arkansas RB Jonathan Williams was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 156th pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft Saturday, April 30.

Footballguys view: Williams is mired behind LeSeanMcCoy and Karlos Williams, and he has injury concerns but he has great feet, balance, power, and quickness. If McCoy gets into trouble resulting from his off-season incident in Philadelphia J.Williams will get some play along with Karlos Williams.

Bills | Buffalo selects Cardale Jones    Sat Apr 30, 02:26 PM

Former Ohio State QB Cardale Jones was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 139th and last pick in the fourth round in the NFL draft Saturday, April 30.

Footballguys view: Jones has a lot of upside but is fairly raw. Greg Roman has his work cut out for him but if he can crack the code, Jones could be better than Tyrod Taylor has been, which is why the Bills don't seem like they care how long he stays.

Bills | No extension for Tyrod Taylor    Sat Apr 30, 02:18 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will not receive a contract extension in light of the Bills drafting QB Cardale Jones. QB EJ Manuel's option is unlikely to be picked up, too.

Footballguys view: They've got a lot of work to do with Jones, though and Greg Roman has his work cut out here. That said, Jones' natural ability makes him intriguing and his upside is very high. Still, his floor is low right now and Taylor may end up the starter for some time anyway.

Bills | Reggie Ragland to compete in the middle    Fri Apr 29, 08:28 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Reggie Ragland will compete with LBs Preston Brown and Zach Brown for the starting middle linebacker spot in the Bills' 3-4 defense. General manager Doug Whaley views Ragland as a leader, though, and will bring something to the defense the Bills need, according to Whaley.

Footballguys view: They didn't take him for his singing voice, so we assume that the Bills have plans for him. Further, the linebackers were bad last year so every position could be up for grabs.

Bills | Reggie Ragland heading to Buffalo    Fri Apr 29, 07:55 PM

The Buffalo Bills selected Alabama LB Reggie Ragland with the No. 41 overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29. The Bills traded up with the Chicago Bears for the selection.

Footballguys view: Ragland is an aggressive presence in the middle of a linebacker group and the Bills need some help shutting the middle of the field down. Ryan has addressed the linebackers with two big picks there and now has to work on the rest of the defense.

Bills | Buffalo trades up in second round    Fri Apr 29, 07:36 PM

The Buffalo Bills acquired the 41st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from the Chicago Bears in exchange for the 49th overall pick, a 2016 fourth-round pick and a 2017 fourth-round draft choice. The Bills picked LB Reggie Ragland with the selection.

Footballguys view: A very Rex Ryan pick as Ragland is a thumper who will help shore the middle up. Last season the linebackers were a joke and now they have added two potential impact players at the position.

Bills | Shaq Lawson will start as rookie    Fri Apr 29, 06:48 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Shaq Lawson will be one of the starting outside linebackers for the team in Week 1, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: The Bills added Reggie Ragland as well, so we're seeing an all-new, all-different linebacker corps in Buffalo. We still worry about Rob Ryan's ability to coach them, but we like the way this defense is looking.

Bills | Connor Cook an option for Buffalo?    Fri Apr 29, 04:44 PM

Michigan State QB Connor Cook could be an option for the Buffalo Bills if he is available when they pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, in the opinion of CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.

Footballguys view: The question is his attitude and work ethic. Frankly, Rex Ryan's track record with quarterbacks hasn't been good but QB coach David Lee and offensive coordinator Greg Roman seem to have cracked the code for Tyrod Taylor. Maybe they could do the same with Cook.

Bills | Shaq Lawson to start immediately    Fri Apr 29, 12:03 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Shaq Lawson is expected to start immediately at outside linebacker in head coach Rex Ryan's 3-4 defensive scheme, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: The Bills need defensive help, so sure, we expect him to jump right in. More of an impact will be whether Rob Ryan can coach a defense better than he did in New Orleans.

Bills | Shaq Lawson denies needing surgery    Fri Apr 29, 09:39 AM

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) said he doesn't need shoulder surgery, while at least six teams said they believe he will at some point.

Footballguys view: The Bills are gambling that any surgery is later than sooner, and this is very much like what the whole league is weighing about Myles Jack. Lawson should help a pass rush that was brutally inefficient last year and saw their sack production die off.

Bills | Shoulder surgery looms for Shaq Lawson     Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM

Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) will need shoulder surgery at some point that will sideline him between four and six months, but it can probably wait until after next season, according to sources.

Footballguys view: We don't like the sound "probably" but if he can hold up this year, Lawson should be a big help for a defense which struggled to get at the quarterback last season.
