Bills | Terrelle Pryor an option for Bills?    Fri Feb 24, 09:57 AM

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Terrelle Pryor could be atop the Buffalo Bills' wish list in free agency.

Footballguys view: The Browns shouldn't let Pryor hit the open market. They may not use the franchise tag on him, but we could see a new long-term deal done before the start of the new league year. Pryor wants to stay in Cleveland, and he's the best part of their offense. The math here is pretty simple.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor cleared    Wed Feb 22, 08:27 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (groin) was medically cleared following last month's groin surgery, according to a team source.

Footballguys view: Now that he's been cleared, Taylor could be released by the team. He has a $27.5 million option bonus due March 11. If released, expect the Jets to make a big run for his services but teams like the Browns and perhaps even the 49ers would be interested.

Bills | Increasing odds Tyrod Taylor stays in Buffalo?    Tue Feb 21, 01:14 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor may not end up going anywhere after all, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who said there is 'better chance than not' Taylor remains with the Bills.

Footballguys view: It's a two-year, $30 million commitment the Bills will take on if they pick up Taylor's option before March 11th. We've heard this go both ways. Some reports speculate they'll keep him, while others say the team will go into rebuilding mode with Cardale Jones as the starter. Stay tuned.

Bills | Reggie Bush unlikely to return    Sat Feb 18, 04:35 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB Reggie Bush likely will not re-sign with the Bills this offseason.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine the market being white hot for Bush. In fact, he might not have too much time left in the NFL.

Bills | Mike Gillislee may get long-term deal    Fri Feb 17, 03:51 PM

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee could receive a long-term contract this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Bills have unlocked Gillislee's potential, and they may want to see even more out of him. New offensive coordinator Rick Dennison will implement a zone-running scheme that fits Gillislee's best attributes -- his patience and burst.

Bills | Robert Woods likely to hit market    Fri Feb 17, 03:50 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent WR Robert Woods probably will test the free-agent market unless he receives an overwhelming offer from the Bills, in the opinion of Buffalo Bills.com's Chris Brown. The Bills may not be part of a bidding war if Woods receives interest from other teams.

Bills | Stephon Gilmore seeking big pay day    Fri Feb 17, 10:21 AM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent CB Stephon Gilmore is seeking top-five cornerback money in a long-term contract, according to sources.

Footballguys view: With only $19 million in cap space at this time, the Bills would have to make a few moves to get Gilmore the amount of money he wants per year. The highest-paid corner in terms of annual average salary is Josh Norman (Washington) as he makes $15 million per year. Gilmore would likely seek that amount, and if the Bills franchise-tagged Gilmore it would cost them a one-year fully guaranteed payment of $14.3 million.

Bills | LeSean McCoy a possible cut?    Fri Feb 17, 09:32 AM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy could be a surprise cut this offseason, in the opinion of NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal. McCoy isn't a perfect fit in offensive coordinator Rick Dennison's one-cut running system. If McCoy is designated as a post-June 1 cut, the team recoups $6.25 million in cap room.

Footballguys view: That would certainly be a surprise by the Bills this offseason. McCoy is a leader on the offense, and the team may be without Tyrod Taylor for 2017. Getting rid of both McCoy and Taylor would likely have disastrous effects on the team. However, they are in rebuilding mode so anything is possible. We think McCoy is safe, but this is a situation that is worth monitoring as the offseason rolls on.

Bills | Lorenzo Alexander looking for lucrative deal    Wed Feb 15, 04:53 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent LB Lorenzo Alexander will receive between $5 million and $10 million per season on a short-term deal this offseason, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: Alexander had a career-best 12.5 sacks in 2016, and he's hitting the open market on a high note. New head coach Sean McDermott is switching to a 4-3 defense, but Alexander feels he's a fit for any scheme.

Bills | Mike Gillislee expected to get tender    Sat Feb 11, 02:23 PM

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee likely will receive a tender offer this offseason.

Footballguys view: Gillislee has found a good spot with the Bills, and he's coming off a career high 577 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. It's a deep market at running back this offseason (draft and free agency), so there may not be too much interest in Gillislee if he gets a low tender.

Bills | Cardale Jones a starting option for Bills?    Sat Feb 11, 01:42 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Cardale Jones being the team's starting quarterback next season is believed to be an appealing option for general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: There has been buzz about Jones being a real possibility, and Carucci is one of the most respected reporters in the game. The Bills are not close to competing for a Super Bowl, so instead of reaching for a quarterback (if/when they let Tyrod Taylor go) they could just go with "12 gauge." Jones has a big arm, and he's athletic enough to keep plays alive with his feet. However, he's rough around the edges...really rough, with accuracy and decision making being a big problem.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor may be open to lowering cap hit    Fri Feb 10, 06:20 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is not willing to take a pay cut but may be open to restructuring his contract in order to reduce his salary cap hit for 2017 as long as it does not involve a pay cut.

Footballguys view: Taylor has the Bills backed into a corner with his contract. Due $30 million in 2017, Taylor could re-work his deal to make it more cap friendly for this season.

Bills | Reggie Ragland not a fit in new defense?    Fri Feb 10, 12:25 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Reggie Ragland, who is still recovering from a torn ACL last summer, may be too big (6-2, 252 pounds) to play inside in new head coach Sean McDermott's defense, as Thomas Davis (6-1, 231) and Shaq Thompson (6-1, 220) both relied on speed and athleticism with the Carolina Panthers. As such, the Buffalo News 'Vic Carucci believes it 'remains to be seen' whether or not he is a good fit in the new scheme.

Footballguys view: The Bills moved up in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft to select Ragland. He's a large-bodied thumper, but he lacks the athleticism to work on the outside as a pass-rusher.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor won't restructure    Thu Feb 9, 11:43 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is unwilling to agree to a restructured deal that would reduce his pay, according to beat writer Vic Carucci.

Footballguys view: Taylor is due $30.5 million guaranteed this year if the Bills pick up his option and choose to keep him on the team. The Bills have until March 11th to make a decision on Taylor's future. It's not a great quarterback class in the 2017 NFL draft, and the Bills only have Cardale Jones on the roster behind Taylor. If he's released, the Browns and the Jets should have interest in Taylor on the open market.

Bills | James Ihedigbo wants to re-sign    Wed Feb 8, 04:51 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent SS James Ihedigbo said he wants to re-sign with the Bills this offseason.

Footballguys view: Originally just a signing for depth, Ihedigbo ended up playing a few games for the Bills in 2016. His season was cut short by an ankle injury, and he was put on Injured Reserve in the middle of December.

Bills | Buffalo hires Gill Byrd    Mon Feb 6, 07:45 PM

The Buffalo Bills have hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant coach Gill Byrd as their new defensive backs coach, according to sources.

Bills | Sean McDermott making strong impression    Sun Feb 5, 08:14 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is impressing owner Terry Pegula, and Pegula said McDermott is already showing he is 'thorough' and a 'hard worker'.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor focused on rehab    Sat Feb 4, 02:58 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (groin) said he is focusing on recovering from his core muscle surgery and is not worrying about his contract situation.

Footballguys view: Taylor is unlikely to get his 30+ million guaranteed dollars if the Bills exercise their option to keep him by March 11, but he could stay on a restructured deal. Either way, he should be a starter somewhere in 2017, even if only as a bridge to a first-round quarterback.

Bills | LeSean McCoy thinks he is top RB in NFL    Sat Feb 4, 01:06 PM

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy said he believes he is the best running back in the NFL if he is healthy.

Footballguys view: McCoy was certainly one of the five or six best fantasy running backs and NFL running backs this year, but he is not quite at the level of LeVeon Bell or David Johnson. Still, he has surprised us with his second act in Buffalo and he should still be drafted as a low RB1 no matter who the quarterback is for Buffalo next year.

Bills | Lorenzo Alexander eyeing QB situation    Fri Feb 3, 03:09 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Lorenzo Alexander said that whoever is the team's quarterback in 2017 will 'factor into his decision' regarding a return to the organization next season. He added that he supports QB Tyrod Taylor and says he 'hopes' he remains the starting quarterback.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor could still be retained    Thu Feb 2, 04:48 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor has not yet been given up on in Buffalo, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. The Bills could still try to bring back Taylor with a lesser contract.

Footballguys view: Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison spent 2014 with Taylor in Baltimore as his quarterbacks coach, and there was a lot of talk that the Broncos tried to get Taylor in Denver when Dennison was the offensive coordinator in 2015. No one should be surprised if the Bills keep Taylor.

Bills | Buffalo interested in Tony Romo    Thu Feb 2, 03:41 PM

The Buffalo Bills have significant interest in Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, but it may not be a great fit since Romo is looking to join a contending team, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Bills have a strong running game, but they are rebuilding the coaching staff yet again and continue to be stuck in the Jeff Fisher mediocrity zone. They also have their own tough decision to make at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor, and he has worked with new offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.

Bills | Phil McGeoghan hired by BUF    Thu Feb 2, 11:06 AM

Former Miami Dolphins wide receivers coach Phil McGeoghan was hired by the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Feb. 2, as wide receivers coach.

Footballguys view: McGeoghan was the wide receivers coach at East Carolina last year, helping Senior Bowl star Zay Jones put up eye-popping numbers. He replaces Sanjay Lal, who joined the Colts staff last month.

Bills | Lorenzo Alexander wants to stay    Tue Jan 31, 02:35 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent LB Lorenzo Alexander said he would love to return to Buffalo. Alexander has played for four teams in the last five years but tallied a career-high in tackles (76) and sacks (12.5) in 2016.

Footballguys view: Alexander was a one-time special teams ace who has graduated to defensive star heading into his age 34 season. He can play inside linebacker in addition to outside linebacker, so that should add value on the free agent market.

Bills | Buffalo cleans house on coaching staff    Tue Jan 31, 01:30 PM

The Buffalo Bills announced linebackers coach Bobby April III, defensive line coach John Blake, quarterbacks coach David Lee, defensive assistant D'Anton Lynn, defensive backs coach Tim McDonald, assistant head coach Chris Palmer, assistant defensive backs coach Ed Reed, special teams assistant Eric Smith, quality control coach Kathryn Smith, assistant quarterbacks coach Jason Vrable and outside linebackers coach Jeff Weeks will not be a part of the coaching staff under new head coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: The Bills are removing almost all traces of the short-lived Rex Ryan era in Buffalo. McDermott will have a chance to put his fingerprints on most of the staff as the team tries to get out of the doldrums of mediocrity.

Bills | Buffalo will look at QBs     Thu Jan 26, 11:31 PM

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said the team will thoroughly study every quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft and will likely head to camp with three or four quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: The future for Tyrod Taylor is up in the air right now. With new head coach Sean McDermott, the Bills would be wise to find their QB of the future. This isn't a great draft class for QB, but they might find a player that fits their needs. Expect them to overhaul the position this offseason. Cardale Jones remains as a developmental QB, but he's not ready to start no matter what happens to Taylor.

Bills | Charles Clay found end zone at home    Thu Jan 26, 01:14 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay caught all four of his touchdowns at home this season. He also caught those four touchdowns during the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: Clay didn't see enough of an uptick in targets or production to be fantasy viable but with a new coach, the offense could change. We'll keep an eye on him this offseason, as he does have talent.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor more productive at home    Thu Jan 26, 01:01 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 1,675 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions at home this season while throwing for 1,348 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions on the road.

Footballguys view: The team seems to be indicating they want to move on from Taylor, and it will be interesting to see who bites either in trade or free agency if they cut him. Taylor is a solid threat with his legs, but we're a little more unsure of his passing ability. With a good quarterback coach and offensive coordinator we think he could show more than we have seen so far though.

  Bills | Tyrod Taylor's surgery a non-factor for GM     Wed Jan 25, 01:00 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (groin) is recovering from groin surgery, but general manager Doug Whaley will not use that as a factor in determining the quarterback's future with the Bills.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see if the Bills keep Taylor around for 2017. The Bills hired Rick Dennison as their new offensive coordinator, and he worked with Taylor back when both were with the Ravens in 2014. Buffalo has until March 11 to pick up Taylor's contract option, which has an injury guarantee for $27.5 million. Taylor is said to be recovering on schedule.

Bills | Marquise Goodwin unsure about talks with BUF    Sun Jan 22, 03:41 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent WR Marquise Goodwin said he is not sure if his representatives have had any contract talks with the Bills at this point.

Footballguys view: The Olympic speedster had the best season of his pro career. He finished with career highs in targets (68), catches (29) and receiving yardage (431). Goodwin can take the top off the defense, and he may want to explore his options in free agency. Perhaps going to a more pass-happy team would be an attractive option for the former third-round pick (2013) out of Texas.
