Bills | Not much progress in talks with Jairus Byrd Wed Jun 19, 05:06 PM
The Buffalo Bills have not made much progress in contract talks with franchise free-agent FS Jairus Byrd.
| Footballguys view: Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. Every franchise player has until July 15th to get a new long-term deal done. We'll see if the Bills can get closer with Byrd as we get into next month. |

Bills | Mario Williams cautions teammates Sun Jun 16, 12:00 AM
Buffalo Bills DE Mario Williams warned his teammates about staying in shape in the weeks leading up to training camp.

Bills | Two UDFAs have chance to make team Fri Jun 14, 03:01 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Da'Rick Rogers and CB Nickell Robey made plays regularly during offseason workouts and have the chance to win a roster spot during training camp.
| Footballguys view: Rogers is on a 'one-shot' deal with the team and will need to stay out of trouble if he wants to make the final roster. He's incredibly talented but fell undrafted this year due to off field concerns. Rogers is a big, physical WR with the speed to make big plays down the field. |

Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler (knee) is not expected to have any restrictions when training camp begins.

Bills | EJ Manuel signed Fri Jun 14, 01:23 PM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, has signed a contract, according to an announcement from the team. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to be worth about $8.9 million over four years. The deal brings all eight of the Bills' 2013 draft picks under contract.
| Footballguys view: Manuel was the top QB off the board in this year's draft and will compete with veteran Kevin Kolb to be the team's starter in 2013. He's big, strong, athletic, and has a strong arm. Manuel is known as a football junkie and has been praised for his work ethic and dedication to the game. Even if he doesn't win the starting job in training camp we'll likely see him in the lineup at some point this season. |

Bills | Stevie Johnson had back fracture Thu Jun 13, 07:03 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (back) revealed that the back injury he suffered in March was a slight fracture in his L-5 vertebrae. He was filming a workout session for BuffaloBills.com when it happened. Johnson said he was given a cortisone shot and an epidural during his recovery.
| Footballguys view: Back injuries are something fantasy owners don't want to hear about. Johnson is one of the toughest players in the league but it would be nice to see him 100% healthy. His current ADP is WR35 (8.09) and we like him as a WR3 with upside in 12 team PPR leagues. |

Bills | Want to move Mario Williams around Mon Jun 10, 04:36 PM
Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said the team wants to move DE Mario Williams around this season so offenses will not know where he will be at all times. 'We want to get the bulls-eye off him and move him around,' Pettine said. 'We want to dictate to teams that if they're going to deal with Mario, they're going to have to find him first. I think he's certainly smart enough to handle it and versatile enough to handle it.' Pettine said he believes Williams can play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive alignment and defensive end in a 4-3 defensive alignment.

Bills | Jairus Byrd will not attend minicamp Mon Jun 10, 02:05 PM
Buffalo Bills franchise free-agent FS Jairus Byrd will not attend the team's upcoming minicamp unless he has a contract.
| Footballguys view: Byrd hasn't signed his franchise tender and is not obligated to show up to minicamp even though it's mandatory. The team has until July 15th to sign Byrd to a long-term deal. We'll see if something can be worked out before then. |

Bills | Robert Woods may be favorite for starting job Sat Jun 8, 11:21 AM
Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods may enter training camp as the favorite for the No. 2 wide receiver job. He has shown solid route running skills and good hands during organized team activities.
| Footballguys view: No surprise here. Woods is a great route runner with strong hands and concentration. He was a great pick in the 2013 NFL draft and should be able to start from day one. We'll see second-year WR T.J. Graham compete with rookie Marquise Goodwin (Texas) to be the team's slot receiver. |

Bills | T.J. Graham impressing Tue Jun 4, 08:44 AM
Buffalo Bills WR T.J. Graham was reportedly the team's most impressive receiver in OTAs.
| Footballguys view: No surprise here. Graham has the speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry. He's not the biggest guy but is known as a feisty receiver and will battle for contested passes. The Bills upgraded their WR corps in the 2013 NFL draft, adding Robert Woods (USC) and Marquise Goodwin (Texas). Savvy fantasy owners won't forget about Graham. Put him on your waiver wire speed dial. |

The Buffalo Bills opened $7 million under the salary cap when QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's contract came off the books June 1. He'll cost them $3 million this season and $7 million on next year's cap.

Bills | Dorin Dickerson asks to go back to TE Sun Jun 2, 05:30 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said the team was going to use TE Dorin Dickerson at wide receiver during organized team activities, but Dickerson asked with work as a tight end because several tight ends were not taking part in the workouts. Marrone said he believes Dickerson could help out as a tight end as well as a wide receiver.
| Footballguys view: Dickerson is one of the more versatile players in the league. He is built like a super sized WR and can line up inside or outside. Even with his versatility we're not expecting much from Dickerson in 2013. |

Bills | C.J. Spiller expects more carries Sat Jun 1, 11:12 PM
Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller intimated that he expects to get the ball more in 2013, after being asked his thoughts on head coach Doug Marrone's statement that he'd go with the hot hand at running back.
| Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to take note here. Unlike former Bills head coach Chan Gailey, new coach Doug Marrone is going to use Spiller in all game situations. That should lead to better numbers in 2013. Spiller's current ADP is RB8 and he's coming off the board at 1.08 in 12 team leagues. |

Bills | Da'Rick Rogers catches an earful Sat Jun 1, 12:43 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone scolded WR Da'Rick Rogers in practice Friday, June 31, after the rookie wideout taunted CB Ron Brooks after beating him on a 15-yard reception. Rogers stood above Brooks for a moment after the defender had fallen to the ground.
| Footballguys view: Rogers is incredibly talented but has some maturity issues that helped cause him to slide to the ranks of the undrafted in this year's class. The team added Rogers on a 'one-shot' deal according to Marrone and he won't have much room to make mistakes as a rookie. Rogers led the SEC in catches as a sophomore at Tennessee but was dismissed prior to the 2012 season due to multiple failed drug tests and issues with coaches. He then transferred to Tennessee Tech and caught 61 passes for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. |

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone has praised rookie QB EJ Manuel during organized team activities. 'From my standpoint ... EJ Manuel has done better (as a rookie) than any of the other organizations I've been a part of,' Marrone said.
| Footballguys view: Good news for the rookie here. Manuel is competing with veteran Kevin Kolb to be the team's starter in 2013. He has a long way to go and may not begin the season as the starter. However, he's the franchise QB of the future and may take over at some point during this season. |

'We're gonna put the defense in some compromising situations with our tempo and the different schemes we have,' Wood said. 'It'll be a little bit of an adjustment. The no-huddle brings a level of toughness for us. We have to be in better shape, we have to communicate quicker. It's going to create its problems for us but that's why we're out here practicing.'

Bills | DeMarco Sampson signs Thu May 30, 11:49 AM
The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent WR DeMarco Sampson (Eagles) and cut DB Vernon Kearney.
| Footballguys view: Sampson was a seventh-round pick by the Cardinals back in 2011. He's got a good size/speed combination but will find it difficult to make the final roster. The Bills are stacked at the position since drafting Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin. The team also added incredibly talented UDFA Da'Rick Rogers after the draft. |
Bills | Quarterbacks rotating Thu May 30, 09:05 AM
Buffalo Bills QBs Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson are splitting reps with the first team in OTAs, and QB EJ Manuel is working as the third-stringer.
| Footballguys view: The starting job is up for grabs and it's clear the team is going to make Manuel earn the job. Manuel is their franchise QB but there's no guarantee he'll begin the season as the starter. We'll see how this battle works out in training camp. |

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said the team will not take RB C.J. Spiller out of the game on short-yardage, third-down or red zone situations this season because of his size or skill set.
| Footballguys view: Spiller isn't the biggest back but finished 11th in the NFL with 424 yards after contact in 2012. He averaged 2.0 yards after contact per rush and was effective running between the tackles. |

Bills | Lee Smith likely will be ready for season Wed May 29, 02:31 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said TE Lee Smith (undisclosed) should be ready for training camp after suffering an undisclosed injury in the weight room this offseason. Smith did not participate in organized team activities Wednesday, May 29, and was wearing a walking boot.
| Footballguys view: Smith is nothing more than a blocking TE and is currently buried on the depth chart. He could have a bigger role if Scott Chandler suffers a setback from his knee injury. Both TEs should be ready for the start of training camp. |

Bills | Scott Chandler expected to be ready for season Sun May 26, 11:04 AM
Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season at this point.
| Footballguys view: Chandler tore his ACL in week 16 last year but all signs are pointing to him participating in training camp. It will be interesting to see how Chandler fits in the new offense. He finished last season as the 13th best TE in fantasy football. Fantasy owners are scared off by his injury status as he's often going undrafted according to current ADP. |

Bills | OC says EJ Manuel has to work on things Wed May 22, 04:30 PM
Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said QB EJ Manuel needs to work on all parts of his game to become a better quarterback. 'He's a young man that's got to work on a lot of things from footwork to progressions to plays to formations, everything. Defenses in the NFL are obviously a little different. He's got to work on that too. He's got to work on everything,' Hackett said.
| Footballguys view: Manuel is far from a polished QB and the Bills knew that when they selected him in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft. However, he has arguably the highest upside of any QB in this class and is an exciting player who just sleeps, eats, and breathes football. Manuel is competing with veteran Kevin Kolb to be the starter in 2013. |
Bills | DC says Aaron Williams doing well with position change Wed May 22, 04:20 PM
Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said FS Aaron Williams has done well in his transition from cornerback to safety. 'He's doing a nice job, and that's a difficult thing,' Pettine said. 'You could make the argument, he's a DB and he's staying at DB. But the safety world is very different from the corner world. He's very intelligent. He's soaking it all in. Every day is a challenge for him as far as new concepts in the play book. I think he's done a real nice job buying in and really getting quickly to the graduate level details of it.'

Bills | Stevie Johnson back on the field Tue May 21, 02:04 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (back) was back on the field for voluntary offseason workouts after resting because of a lower-back injury. He was running routes during individual drills. 'It definitely feels good to just be out there on the field, even through the little pains I have,' Johnson said. 'It's getting better every week,' he said of the back malady. 'They gave me a six- to eight-week thing to even get on the field, and it's only been about three, so I feel good.'
| Footballguys view: This is a good sign for Johnson. Previously he stated that he had no idea when he would be back from this injury. Now that he's returned to the practice field the Bills will monitor him closely so his injury is not aggravated. |

Bills | Robert Woods the No. 2 Tue May 21, 10:20 AM
Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods is penciled in as the No. 2 receiver.
| Footballguys view: No surprise here. Woods is one of the best route runners in this draft class and has strong hands as well. He should quickly become a favorite of whatever QB wins the starting job in Buffalo. |
Bills | Could get creative with Robert Woods Mon May 20, 05:08 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said he could use WR Robert Woods both outside and in the slot position in his rookie season.
| Footballguys view: Woods could become a QB favorite quickly as a rookie. He's a crisp route runner who can get open with ease. Once open he has strong hands and can be trusted as a reliable target. Woods should win the starting job opposite Stevie Johnson in training camp. |

Bills | EJ Manuel likes new offense Mon May 20, 01:14 PM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel said it has been easy to pick up the team's offense, which he said is less complicated than the system he learned at Florida State. 'The funny thing is it's easier to learn than the offense I had at Florida State,' he said. 'It's a true West Coast-type progression offense. That's really what I wanted when I was coming through the pre-draft process. I wanted something that I could just go in and say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, check it down and run it. That's it, it's that simple. I love it.' Manuel has spent extensive time working with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
| Footballguys view: Manuel fits the design of the Marrone offense perfectly. It's an aggressive design featuring downfield passing and some option plays for an athletic quarterback. Manuel is competing with Kevin Kolb to be the team's starter this year. |
