Los Angeles Rams RB Justin Davis (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury and is considered questionable for the second preseason game.

Rams | Tyler Higbee standing out    Tue Aug 14, 10:56 AM

Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee has been a standout in training camp.

Footballguys view: Higbee has some Kelce/Gronkowski to his game and his production has been held back more by his shared role and multi-faceted passing offense than a lack of development on his part. If Everett is not ready for Week 1, Higbee will be an excellent deep sleeper against the Raiders.

Rams | Josh Reynolds to miss a week    Sun Aug 12, 10:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Josh Reynolds (ankle) will miss at least a week while dealing with an ankle injury, head coach Sean McVay said Sunday, Aug. 12.

Rams | Gerald Everett wearing sling    Sat Aug 11, 07:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett (shoulder) was seen with his left arm in a sling Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: With Everett a bit banged up it opens the door for Tyler Higbee to get more snaps. We'll see how long this shoulder injury keep Everett out of action.

Rams | Aaron Donald fine details    Sat Aug 11, 09:01 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald will receive a fine of $405,000 for every game he misses during his holdout.

Footballguys view: There are conflicting reports (and statements from team officials) about the status of contract talks with Donald. He should get a salary that pays him more than $20 million annually. The Rams have been throwing out new contracts for other players like they're handing out Halloween candy...they need to get Donald what he deserves as arguably the best defensive player in football. This situation does not seem as dire as others (Khalil Mack, Earl Thomas) around the league.

Rams | Sean Mannion continues to struggle    Fri Aug 10, 09:35 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Sean Mannion completed three of his 13 pass attempts for 16 yards and an interception in a preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Aug. 9, and Vincent Bonsignore said Mannion has 'struggled' throughout offseason workouts and in training camp.

Footballguys view: Mannion has always had a big arm, size and some athleticism but those tools aren't only what's needed to succeed at the pro level. At this time, Mannion is the primary backup to Jared Goff. With the Rams poised to make a run at the Super Bowl in 2018 one has to wonder if they'll consider upgrading that spot just in case Goff goes down and they have to go to the backup.

Rams | John Kelly tallies 91 yards    Thu Aug 9, 11:31 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB John Kelly rushed 13 times for 77 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards in a 33-7 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Malcolm Brown is still the primary backup to Todd Gurley, but Kelly is better in the passing game and continues to impress with every opportunity he gets. If Gurley misses time, Kelly may end up being the better pickup.

Rams | Brandin Cooks a versatile weapon    Thu Aug 9, 12:41 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks will be used in a variety of positions and move around offensive formations, according to head coach Sean McVay. McVay added that Cooks is a 'rare type player' who possesses a complete skillset.

Footballguys view: Well, the Rams are definitely looking to get their money's worth from Cooks after he signed that ridiculously big contract not long ago. The more ways they can try to use him, the better the chance he breaks out from the pack around him. The Rams didn't throw a ton last year -- they were 24th in passing attempts in 2017 -- but we hope they open things up for Jared Goff this season. That would bode well for Cooks -- currently the 22nd receiver coming off the board in drafts -- and his production.

Rams | Cooper Kupp, Jared Goff gelling    Wed Aug 8, 03:13 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp and QB Jared Goff have connected frequently at training camp and their chemistry is evident. According to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora, Kupp and Goff 'have something special going on.'

Footballguys view: Keep this in mind when considering Kupp for your fantasy team. The second-year pro had a strong rookie season in 2017 with 62 catches for 869 yards and five touchdowns. Projecting him for similar numbers this year is fair and Kupp has plenty of flex appeal for Fantasy GMs in 2018. He's got a current ADP of WR40 (9.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Aaron Donald talks progressing?    Wed Aug 8, 11:38 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald and the team are 'in the same zip code, area code, ballpark,' in terms of contract talks, according to general manager Les Snead.

Footballguys view: This sounds more encouraging than the Raiders situation with Khalil Mack. The Rams are clearly in a Super Bowl window and hopefully won't mishandle this, as Donald has earned the right to be one of the highest paid players in the league.

Rams | Aaron Donald not reporting soon    Mon Aug 6, 07:20 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald has no plans to end his holdout and report to training camp anytime soon.

Footballguys view: The Rams are hesitant to pay arguably the best defensive player in the game at this time. Donald would need to report by Tuesday, Aug. 7, in order to ensure that his 2018 season counts as an accrued season and that he wouldn't be a restricted free agent next year.

Rams | Gerald Everett bothered by shoulder    Fri Aug 3, 02:46 AM

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett (shoulder) was being evaluated for a shoulder injury after practice Thursday, Aug. 2. Head coach Sean McVay indicated it was 'hard to say' how severe the injury was.

Footballguys view: Everett has had some good days in camp and could be increasing his effectiveness in year two, even if it will be hard for his role to increase. If this is a serious injury, Tyler Higbee belongs on our redraft radar, getting the lion's share of tight end targets in the potent Rams offense.

Rams | Aaron Lacombe waived    Mon Jul 30, 06:54 PM

Rams | Jamon Brown's suspension due to marijuana    Sat Jul 28, 10:06 AM

Los Angeles Rams OG Jamon Brown said his two-game suspension is due to the fact that police found marijuana in his car after he was pulled over in a 2017 incident in Kentucky for speeding. He is allowed to play in preseason games and practiced with the first-team offense at training camp Thursday, July 26.

Rams | LAR has three candidates to start at right guard    Sat Jul 28, 09:16 AM

Los Angeles Rams OGs Austin Blythe, Brian Allen and Joseph Noteboom are likely candidates to replace OG Jamon Brown in the starting lineup at right guard when he serves his two-game suspension.

Footballguys view: Luckily for the Rams, they face Oakland and Arizona the first two weeks, teams that aren't known for great interior pass rush or run defenders.

Rams | Aaron Donald has hurdle upcoming    Thu Jul 26, 08:50 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald has to report by Aug. 7 to receive an accrued season for free agency or he'll be restricted in 2019. The date isn't considered relevant in part because the team may want to put the franchise tag on him anyway.

Footballguys view: It's somewhat baffling why the Rams haven't found a way to get one of the best defensive players in the NFL a new deal, but it's also not uncommon right now as Khalil Mack is having the same issue. We suspect something will happen and he'll be in camp, but this is a problem we hope is solved soon because Fantasy GMs are counting on DL1 production from him and a missed training camp could hinder that.

Rams | Aaron Donald does not report    Wed Jul 25, 12:53 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald did not report to camp Wednesday, July 25, amid a contract dispute.

Footballguys view: With Rams RB Todd Gurley getting his big-money extension we should see the team hook up Donald next. He stayed away from mandatory mincamp earlier this year and it seems like this holdout will continue provided Donald doesn't have a new deal. He skipped all of training camp last year and still had 11.0 sacks. Arguably the best defender in the game today, we have a feeling the Rams will find a way to properly compensate him.

Rams | Todd Gurley finalizing huge extension    Tue Jul 24, 01:50 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year extension worth $60 million - including $45 million guaranteed - on Tuesday, July 24.

Footballguys view: This whopping deal easily resets the standard for top running backs in the league. With guys like Le'Veon Bell and David Johnson waiting for new deals, Gurley's extension gives them numbers to work off of. Gurley is a fantasy darling, and fantasy GMs are taking him off the board early in every draft and in any format. He's the centerpiece of what the Rams do on offense and should continue to be incredibly productive.

Rams | Brandin Cooks inks long-term deal    Tue Jul 17, 03:13 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks signed a five-year contract extension Tuesday, July 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick in 2014, Cooks was set to hit the open market before the Rams decided to lock him down with this deal. He's coming off three straight seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving each year and projecting him for around the same production as to what he had in 2017 with the Patriots (65 catches, 1,082 yards, 7 touchdowns) is fair. He's a WR2 for fantasy owners currently going at WR23 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Lamarcus Joyner does not receive deal    Mon Jul 16, 03:53 PM

Los Angeles Rams S Lamarcus Joyner will not receive a long-term deal before the deadline and will play this season on the franchise tag tender.

Footballguys view: Joyner enjoyed a breakout season in 2017 when the team moved him to safety on a full-time basis. He's already signed his $11.2 million franchise tender and will not miss any time in training camp or the preseason. With no long-term deal, Joyner is set to be a free agent in 2019.

Rams | LA Rams thrived in close quarters last year    Tue Jul 10, 10:49 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff led the charge for the team's offensive breakthrough in 2017, as the Rams used significantly more condensed formations (stacks and bunches). The Rams led the league in passing attempts (286), passing yards (2,328) and passing touchdowns (18) in those formations, per Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: If Goff doesn't get Sean McVay's car washed on a regular basis - or at least take him out for Fatburger or In N Out - he's crazy. McVay's offense fit Goff like a a new set of tires on the 101 freeway. Brandin Cooks is an upgrade over Sammy Watkins and Todd Gurley should build off a year where he really turned a corner. Goff is set up for a nice 2018 and while we aren't calling him out as a QB1 prospect -- and his ADP of 15th quarterback taken doesn't have Fantasy GMs seeing him like that either -- we feel he's going to be a solid backup fantasy quarterback with upside this year.

Rams | Greg Zuerlein progressing well    Tue Jul 10, 04:37 AM

Los Angeles Rams PK Greg Zuerlein (back) 'could probably go' if he had to suit up for an upcoming game, according to special teams coordinator John Fassel, who added, 'A week after his surgery he was in the training room and he's lived in there ever since that day. So he's had a great offseason with his rehab and his training, so when training camp starts, I would imagine we'll be full speed.'

Rams | Three competing for ILB job    Sun Jul 8, 06:21 PM

Los Angeles Rams LBs Cory Littleton, Bryce Hager and Micah Kiser will be competing for one of the starting inside linebacker jobs during training camp.

Footballguys view: The Rams traded Alec Ogletree to the Giants in the offseason and will have an open competition for his job next to Mark Barron. With the strongest trio of defensive linemen any 3-4 team has assembled in a while, the winner could have some room to roam against opposing offenses.

Rams | Todd Gurley to be busy again?    Sat Jul 7, 10:24 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley's 343 touches were the third most in the NFL last season, and Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com expects Gurley to remain the 'backbone' of the offense and handle a similar workload in 2018.

Footballguys view: The Rams offense should be just as potent as last year, if not even better with Jared Goff getting more experienced. There's a very strong argument for Gurley at #1 in drafts.

Rams | Jamon Brown suspended    Tue Jul 3, 03:40 PM

Los Angeles Rams OG Jamon Brown has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Footballguys view: Brown had a very good and the Rams don't have quality depth behind him. Austin Blythe is the top candidate to replace him. The Rams open with Oakland and Arizona, defenses not known for the quality of their interior linemen, so the Rams might have caught a schedule break.

Link to story

Rams | Mark Barron to return during camp    Sat Jun 30, 10:13 PM

Los Angeles Rams LB Mark Barron (shoulder) will return to the field at some point during training camp, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: The Rams have a hole at inside linebacker beside Barron after they traded Alec Ogletree to the Giants earlier in the offseason. Barron's health will be important, although the Rams ILBs jobs will be made easier by the best defensive line in the league playing in front of them.

Rams | More from Robert Woods in 2018?    Fri Jun 29, 09:47 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods said the offense is 'more advanced' this year, and there has been a 'big improvement' with the timing between himself and QB Jared Goff.

Footballguys view: Woods would do more this year if he can stay healthy. Injuries limited him to only 12 games in 2017, yet he still posted career bests in receiving yardage (781) and touchdowns (5). As the second option in the Rams passing attack opposite Brandin Cooks, Woods is going off the board at WR37 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Big plays coming for Brandin Cooks?    Fri Jun 29, 09:40 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks has been 'able to get to that deep ball' consistently over the last few years, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: It's going to be exciting to see Cooks haul in deep passes from QB Jared Goff this year. Fantasy owners are certainly excited about Cooks upside, and that's why he's getting drafted at WR23 (5.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Cooper Kupp to be busy in 2018?    Fri Jun 29, 09:30 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp 'gets open and catches everything, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, and Brandt believes Kupp could reach 90 receptions in 2018.

Footballguys view: Kupp was a steady performer for the Rams as a rookie in 2017. We're expecting and projecting more of the same for him. Kupp is quick and runs great routes, so he should continue to be a favorite target of QB Jared Goff. We should see Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods do the damage on the outside with Kupp cleaning things up from the slot. He's a WR4 with upside for fantasy owners, currently going at WR39 (8.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Robert Woods handled off-coverage in 2017    Fri Jun 29, 03:23 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods finished with 44 catches for 608 yards against off-man coverage in 2017, generating a 134.3 receiver rating in such situations - the third-best mark in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Injuries limited Woods to 12 games in 2017, but he still posted career-best numbers in receiving yardage (781) and touchdowns (5). Brandin Cooks was added to be the lead WR for the Rams in 2018, so Woods stays in his role of the no.2 receiver and he'll get the coverage to match. Fantasy owners see Woods as a WR4, and he's going off the board at WR37 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Cooper Kupp defeated press as a rookie    Thu Jun 28, 04:55 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp caught 18-of-23 targets for 320 yards against press coverage in 2017. His receiver rating of 147.7 and catch rate of 78.3 percent were both ranked third among receivers with at least 10 targets, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Kupp was really solid last season, totaling 869 yards off those catches as well as five touchdowns. Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods are there which will probably limit his impact a bit, though he could pass Woods at some point. He's the 34th receiver coming off the board, with an overall ADP of 84, which seems reasonable, with some upside to spare.

Rams | LAR having positive talks with Aaron Donald    Tue Jun 26, 05:28 PM

The Los Angeles Rams have had positive talks with DT Aaron Donald and will continue to work towards a contract extension for Donald, according to executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff.

Footballguys view: Donald is a tremendous talent and certainly one of the best defensive players in the NFL. The Rams would be foolish not to get this done, and do so soon. He averaged over 30 tackles over the last two years and we think he could approach 40 this year, which would put him close to his high of 44 in 2015.

Rams | Samson Ebukam locked into starting job    Tue Jun 19, 09:48 PM

Los Angeles Rams LB Samson Ebukam had a "tremendous spring" in winning a starting job, according to defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick out of Eastern Washington in 2017, Ebukam has the ability to get after the passer measuring in at 6'3" 240 pounds. He explodes to the play and has natural violence when he arrives at the ball carrier. Ebukam needs to develop more moves as a rusher and not spend as much time getting locked onto his blocker in order to be a quality player for the Rams defense. It sounds like his 2018 is off to a great start.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Kelly is the player we're monitoring in dynasty leagues. At 5'10" 216 pounds, Kelly has the size and intent to consistently break tackles and pick up yards through contact. He caught 37 passes last year for the Tennesse Volunteers, so his college days flashed just the beginnings of what he could be.

Rams | Aaron Donald may hold up other contract talks    Sun Jun 3, 08:07 PM

The Los Angeles Rams may not address other contract situations, such as RB Todd Gurley or WR Brandin Cooks, until it has addressed DT Aaron Donald's contract.

Footballguys view: Donald should hold up other contract talks because he's first in line for a new deal. He's been skipping voluntary OTAs as he waits for a new deal to be hammered out. Donald is scheduled to make $6.892 million in the final year of his rookie deal. We'll see if the Rams can get something done for Donald...and for them to move on to other contract situations.
