Rams | Todd Gurley feeling overwhelmed    Sat Sep 24, 08:32 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley said he feels like there are 12 men on the field when he runs because of the way opposing defenses are stacking the line of scrimmage.

Footballguys view: That's not exactly what you want to hear as a Gurley owner. He's a great back with superstar potential, but the Rams aren't getting the best out of him. Defenses aren't afraid of Case Keenum...and they likely won't be afraid of any other option the Rams can trot out there at QB including no.1 overall pick Jared Goff. We like Gurley as a high-upside RB2 for fantasy owners the way this season is starting...and we hope they can find a way to turn things around.

Rams | HC not worried about Todd Gurley    Wed Sep 21, 10:03 PM

Los Angeles RB Todd Gurley has gotten off to a slow start, but head coach Jeff Fisher said Wednesday, Sept. 21, that he is confident Gurley will improve. 'Yeah, he's outstanding. When the season is done, people are going to go, 'Wow'.'

Footballguys view: We're not that worried about Gurley either. He's a low-end RB1 now instead of where he should be -- near the top of all fantasy RBs. We'll see if the Rams can get the superstar back jump-started.

Rams | Pharoh Cooper back on practice field    Wed Sep 21, 01:52 AM

Los Angeles Rams WR Pharoh Cooper (shoulder) returned to the practice field Tuesday, Sept. 20, and could be active in Week 3. He was on track to be the team's slot receiver before getting hurt and might fill that role this Sunday.

Rams | Tavon Austin doing little with a lot    Tue Sep 20, 04:09 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin is seventh among wide receivers with 21 targets through two weeks, but he has caught only nine passes for 63 yards.

Footballguys view: Austin and most of the Rams offense is out of sync. They are sticking with QB Case Keenum for now, but we all know the future of the franchise is no.1 overall pick Jared Goff. We'll see if Austin can turn things around and if he can establish a strong chemistry when (not if) the rookie passer takes over.

Rams | LA to stick with Case Keenum for now    Tue Sep 20, 12:29 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Case Keenum will remain the starting quarterback as the team heads into its Week 3 road battle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Footballguys view: That's the plan -- for now. The Rams are the only NFL team that has yet to score a touchdown, but head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters this week that a move to No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff will be 'based on a lot of different things' and made 'when he's ready'.

Rams | Case Keenum to start Week 3    Tue Sep 20, 11:43 AM

Los Angeles Rams QB Case Keenum will be the starter for Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over QB Jared Goff.

Footballguys view: The time will get here soon enough when Goff takes over his team. Goff reminds us of Cowboys QB Tony Romo for more than a few reasons. Like Romo, Goff gets a little banged up and might be a little too slight to hold up to the NFL beating he's going to get on a weekly basis. Also like the veteran passer, Goff gets rid of the ball quickly and isn't afraid to challenge a defense with his arm. We're excited about Goff's NFL career, but in a Jeff Fisher offense -- especially as a rookie -- we won't be plugging him into fantasy lineups when he starts.

Rams | Aaron Donald fined    Sat Sep 17, 09:26 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald has been fined $21,269 by the NFL for two infractions from Week 1's game against the San Francisco 49ers. He was fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness and $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Rams | Todd Gurley preaching patience    Fri Sep 16, 11:51 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley said he needs to remain more patient in his reads after some of his runs were 'busted up' early against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 because he was trying to do too much.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to have patience too. The Rams want to get back on track as they face the Seahawks at home in Week 2. Gurley is a low-end RB1 in this tough matchup.

Los Angeles Rams WR Nelson Spruce (knee) and CB E.J. Gaines (thigh) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and has been ruled out for Week 2.   Rams | Todd Gurley takes part in practice    Fri Sep 16, 07:08 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (rest) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2. He was originally listed as questionable but was taken off the injury report.

Footballguys view: Gurley is still a low RB1 on volume, but the Seahawks matchup is tough. The Rams offense didn't do him any favors in Week 1, but the team usually plays their best football against Seattle.

Rams | Jared Goff promoted to No. 2    Fri Sep 16, 05:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams rookie QB Jared Goff will be the backup quarterback behind Case Keenum in Week 2 versus the Seattle Seahawks, displacing Sean Mannion.

Footballguys view: Goff is on his way to the starting lineup sooner than later, but it might not be an upgrade from Keenum, even though he was easily the worst starting quarterback on the field in Week 1.

Rams | Todd Gurley takes day off    Wed Sep 14, 09:48 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (rest) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 14, and he was listed as having a day of rest.

Footballguys view: This sounds like just a normal day of rest. Many fantasy owners are dismayed by Gurley's disappointing Week 1 performance. We still see him as a top-10 fantasy RB in Week 2 at home against the Seahawks.

Rams | Jared Goff could be active in Week 2    Wed Sep 14, 02:17 AM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff could serve as the team's backup quarterback in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. QB Sean Mannion filled that role in Week 1.

Footballguys view: Goff could make his pro debut sometime in the near future -- especially if starter Case Keenum continues to struggle. The matchup against the Seahawks is always a tough, physical contest and it would be best to keep the rookie holding a clipboard if at all possible. If Keenum continues to play poorly, the team could turn over the control of the offense to the no.1 overall pick. Once that happens (because it's more 'when' than 'if') we'll have to gauge the impact on the players within that offense.

Rams | Case Keenum still starting    Tue Sep 13, 03:45 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Case Keenum will still be the starting quarterback, according to head coach Jeff Fisher, despite a dismal performance in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Keenum may still be the starter ... for now. If he continues to struggle the team could turn things over to Sean Mannion. Eventually, no.1 overall pick Jared Goff could see the field as he's the Rams QB of the future.

Rams | Aaron Donald unlikely to be suspended    Tue Sep 13, 02:50 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald is not expected to be suspended for contacting a referee in Week 1, according to a source. He is only expected to be fined.

Footballguys view: He was thrown out of the season opener against the 49ers, but no suspension is likely. If Donald were to get ejected again, then perhaps the league would consider further discipline.

Rams | Michael Brockers agrees to extension    Tue Sep 13, 02:36 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Michael Brockers agreed to a three-year extension through 2019 Tuesday, Sept. 13, according to a source.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, Brockers has developed into a solid player. The Rams have a strong defensive front, and now Brockers is going to continue as one of the key defenders on the line.

Rams | Aaron Donald ejected    Tue Sep 13, 11:45 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald was ejected from the Week 1 game Monday, Sept. 12, after making contact with an official.

Footballguys view: The Rams lost their cool on Monday night. Donald and the Rams defense need to get things back on track after losing to the 49ers in Week 1.

Rams | Case Keenum was nearly benched    Tue Sep 13, 08:17 AM

Los Angeles Rams QB Case Keenum was nearly benched during the Week 1 loss, but head coach Jeff Fisher said he decided to keep him in over QB Sean Mannion.

Footballguys view: During the game, Fisher looked like he was going to spontaneously combust on the sideline. We're surprised he didn't pull Keenum in favor of Mannion. The leash for Keenum going forward may not be that long.

Rams | Five touches for Tavon Austin    Tue Sep 13, 01:54 AM

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin collected four receptions for 13 yards in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers and he added one run for two yards.

Footballguys view: The Rams offense just looked bad. Austin is a gadget player who doesn't get as many touches as perhaps he should. We'll see if the Rams work to rectify that going forward -- especially after handing Austin a new contract this offseason.

Rams | Todd Gurley mostly stuck in neutral    Tue Sep 13, 01:52 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley carried 17 times for 47 yards in the Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers and he had one reception for minus-5 yards.

Footballguys view: A bad start for one of the league's best RBs. The Rams are facing a tough Seahawks defense (in L.A.) in Week 2, so getting Gurley on track may be difficult this upcoming game as well.

Rams | Case Keenum has horrific stat line    Tue Sep 13, 01:36 AM

Rams | Jared Goff unlikely to start anytime soon    Mon Sep 12, 12:20 PM

St. Louis Rams rookie QB Jared Goff is unlikely to make his way into the starting lineup anytime soon, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

Footballguys view: That's not a bad thing. There used to be a time when young QBs were given plenty of time to get used to the pro game. Now, first-round picks (especially those taken no.1 overall like Goff) tend to start immediately. The last QB to sit for a long time that was no.1 overall was Carson Palmer (2003). He spent a year on the bench behind Jon Kitna when he first came into the league with the Bengals. Goff may not be down for the entire season, but it could work wonders for his development if he sits until he is more ready.

Rams | Jared Goff won't be active for Week 1    Tue Sep 6, 04:56 PM

Los Angeles Rams rookie QB Jared Goff will be a healthy scratch for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: QB Sean Mannion will back up QB Case Keenum, while P Johnny Hekker will serve as the emergency backup. Goff has some learning to do, but it's okay to let him sit and wait for his chance to start. The rookie is the future of the franchise, but starting him when he's not ready could damage his long-term outlook.

Rams | Nelson Spruce to stick on roster    Fri Sep 2, 10:59 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Nelson Spruce (knee) is expected to remain on the 53-man roster past the deadline Saturday, Sept. 3, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Spruce had a great first preseason game for the Rams, then he got banged up. He's got a game similar to that of former Patriots/Broncos WR Wes Welker. Spruce is fearless when running routes over the middle, and he can make difficult grabs near the sideline. We'll be watching his development in dynasty leagues.

Rams | Jared Goff finishes up rough preseason    Thu Sep 1, 10:37 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff completed 22 of his 49 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Right now, the coaching staff says he is the third quarterback. Somewhat unexpected given the Rams moved heaven and earth to get him, but perhaps the right move if he needs development. No Rams quarterback is worth rostering unless he's on your dynasty team. This remains a Todd Gurley driven offense.

Rams | Jared Goff 50/50 to start Thursday    Tue Aug 30, 11:16 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff has a '50-50' chance to start the team's final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: We should see the rookie plenty in the preseason finale. Case Keenum is going to begin the year as the team's starter, but the future of the team if Goff. He's got a quick release, and Goff is adept at reading defenses under pressure. There's a chance we could see him start later in the year if the team needs a spark.

Rams | Quinton Coples cut loose in L.A.    Mon Aug 29, 10:46 PM

The Los Angeles Rams released DE Quinton Coples Monday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: Things have gone off track for Coples in his pro career. A first-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, Coples struggled on two teams (Jets, Dolphins) last year before the Rams picked him up on the open market. He was supposed to be a better fit with his hand on the dirt in a 4-3 defense like the one the Rams utilize. That's not been the case, and now he'll be looking for a new team -- again. He's running out of chances, but there might be some team interested in taking a look at the 6'6" 290 pound veteran.
