Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely to go to Hawaii    Tue Aug 13, 09:33 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is not expected to travel with the team as it heads to Hawaii to play the Dallas Cowboys in exhibition game Saturday, Aug. 17.'That's something that I would say, more likely than not, but we're still working through the specifics of that as we kind of get closer and closer to that. I don't have the full answer, but more likely than not, he will not go,' head coach Sean McVay said.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. We won't any of Gurley in the preseason as he's on McVay's 'veteran plan' for training camp. The Rams want to keep him fresh for the start of the regular season.

Rams | Quiet outing for Darrell Henderson    Sat Aug 10, 11:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Darrell Henderson rushed six times for 13 yards and lost five yards on his only reception in a 14-3 preseason loss to the Oakland Raiders Saturday, Aug. 10.

Footballguys view: Henderson hasn't popped in camp like Miles Sanders or in the first preseason game like David Montgomery. After being listed 5th on the first depth chart, the air is coming out of his overinflated ADP.

Rams | Cooper Kupp scales back workload    Fri Aug 2, 09:01 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (knee) had his practice reps reduced Thursday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys view: The team is 'measuring' Kupp's return to the field, so this type of thing might happen as he continues to work back from the knee injury that ended his 2018 season.

Rams | Brandin Cooks tweaks hamstring    Thu Aug 1, 09:08 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks (hamstring) exited practice after his hamstring 'got a little bit tight' Thursday, Aug. 1, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: We'll be watching this as hamstrings can be a real problem for speed receivers who have to be able to open up the throttle all the way to be effective. Josh Reynolds will get more first team reps if Cooks has to sit for a while.

Rams | Jared Goff continuing to develop    Mon Jul 29, 03:23 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff 'continues to get stronger physically,' according to Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson. Head coach Sean McVay told Robinson that Goff is 'more twitchy in his upper body' and 'knows the offense to the point of adding his own stamps to it.'

Footballguys view: As long as the two new starters on the offensive line gel, Goff will be set up for his best season yet. He is one of a myriad of values at the quarterback position.

Rams | Light shed on Darrell Henderson's role?    Mon Jul 29, 03:16 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Darrell Henderson is expected to be utilized in the same kind of 'flexible mismatch' role Chris Thompson assumed when head coach Sean McVay was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: Chris Thompson flirted with RB1 value in PPR leagues in McVay's offense so this isn't bad news for Henderson's stock, although he's being drafted close to his ceiling if Todd Gurley stays healthy all year. This is enough to justify him at ADP when combined with the Gurley injury upside.

Rams | Todd Gurley on preservation plan    Sun Jul 28, 02:49 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will be on a 'veteran plan' during training camp, getting interspersed rest days, and will not play in the preseason as the Rams aim to have him in optimal shape for the regular season. 'There will be (days he doesn't practice),' Rams coach Sean McVay said. 'There will be some days that -- depending upon his workload and looking toward that (Week 1) Carolina game -- we might look at treating him like we have some of those veteran players. Todd really has become a veteran player.'

Footballguys view: The Rams are spinning this positively, but Gurley is 24, turning 25 next week, and this is not business as usual for a player that age. It sounds like were are not going to get more information to help guide us in drafts and the current position fantasy players have taken on Gurley is what they will take into drafts.

Rams | No restrictions for Cooper Kupp    Sat Jul 27, 09:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (knee) will have no restrictions during training camp, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: This is great news for Kupp and the Rams offense. Kupp's ADP has been deflated because of injury recovery uncertainty, but it should bounce back now.

Rams | Todd Gurley to take part in camp Saturday    Fri Jul 26, 03:50 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will be on the field for the start of training camp workouts Saturday, July 27, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: This is a relief after it wasn't announced that he avoided the PUP. We'll see how much the Rams manage his practice workload as a sign of how much to be worried about his knee and how much his regular season workload will be limited.

Rams | Cooper Kupp avoids PUP list    Tue Jul 23, 08:09 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (knee) was medically cleared Tuesday, July 23, and won't be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp.

Footballguys view: Good news for Kupp here as he will not begin the season on the PUP list. He is targeting a return at some point in training camp and his Week 1 status seems good to go.

Rams | Todd Gurley intends to play at 218 pounds    Tue Jul 23, 03:31 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) wants to play the 2019 season at 218 pounds after playing most of his career around 224 pounds, according to NFL.com's Steve Wyche.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the lighter weight helps keep Gurley healthy this year. His knee history is a huge concern for Fantasy GMs and that's why Gurley's average draft position is near the top of the second round instead of being at the top of the first like it has been since he entered the league.

Rams | Todd Gurley proclaimed ready by coach    Fri Jul 19, 12:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) received a vote of health and confidence Thursday, July 18, from head coach Sean McVay, who was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. 'I think he's feeling great,' McVay said on the show of Gurley. 'I think, you know, one of the things about Todd is (he's a) great competitor. I think he's earned the right to be able to have the plan that we had this offseason. Can't wait to get him back going. I know he's ready to go and it's going to be fun for the Rams this year.'

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee problem has made his draft stock fall a bit this summer. He's got a current ADP of RB11 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. His knee scares Fantasy GMs just a bit and so does the fact that the Rams could use guys like Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown a bit more to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | Todd Gurley not changing style    Wed Jul 10, 02:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) said he does not plan to change his playing style even though he has been dealing with knee issues.

Footballguys view: That's cool, but let's see if he can hold up. Reports this offseason have speculated the Rams want to manage Gurley's workload better, leading Fantasy GMs to let the superstar back fall to the first-round/second-round turn in fantasy drafts. He won't be used in the preseason (per GM Les Snead), so expect his ADP to stay in the same area for those of you drafting in late August.

Rams | Todd Gurley happy with time off    Tue Jul 9, 10:51 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) believes sitting out organized team activities and spring workouts was good for him and 'everything went well.'

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee trouble has caused his fantasy stock to drop. Fantasy GMs are concerned about his availability, especially late in the season (see 2018). Gurley is likely to be available at the first turn in your fantasy draft, so be ready to make a decision on how much you trust him and that knee. Gurley has a current ADP of RB11 (2.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Todd Gurley churns out yards after contact    Mon Jul 8, 05:01 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley has recorded 2,192 yards after contact since 2016 - the second-highest total in the league over that span - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: That's what Gurley does...and maybe used to do. We hope beyond hope that Gurley can return to his old form, but the knee problems from last year have put a scare in the fantasy community. Gurley has top-5 talent as a pro running back, but he's falling to RB11 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues as people are rightly concerned about his knee. Gurley could pay off big time if he can produce like the top-tier back he used to be.

Rams | Cooper Kupp excelled out of slot    Tue Jul 2, 12:46 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (knee) led the NFC West in 2018 with an average of 2.42 yards per route run out of the slot.

Footballguys view: More advanced data here that backs up what everyone already knows...Kupp is really good out of the slot. His November ACL surgery uncovered no additional damage and he should be ready for the season opener. He's a low-end WR2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in 2019. Kupp is currently going off the board at WR20 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Aaron Neary handed four-game ban    Fri Jun 28, 03:08 PM

Los Angeles Rams OL Aaron Neary was given a four-game suspension by the league Friday, June 28, for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to NFL Network's James Palmer.

Footballguys view: Neary had some experience with the Rams, even starting a game when they rested the first team before the playoffs in the past, and they will be breaking in two new starters on the offensive line, so this could be a blow to some needed depth.

Rams | Jamil Demby seeing time at all 5 OL spots    Tue Jun 25, 08:16 PM

Los Angeles Rams OL Jamil Demby, a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is being groomed as a backup for all offensive line spots in 2019. 'Jamil has played four or five spots - actually, he's getting reps at all five spots at this point, so we feel strongly about what we've seen from him in this offseason,' offensive line coach Aaron Kromer said recently. 'Obviously it's games that are more important than practices with no pads, but we feel really good about him.'

Footballguys view: Demby could end up being one of the keys to the Rams offensive performance this year. The team will be breaking in two new starters on the offensive line at guard in center. Both were mid-round picks last year, with center Brian Allen going in the fourth and guard Joseph Noteboom going in the third. If either gets hurt or falters in an uncertain debut year, Demby will be the next man up, and he could even win a starter job out of camp if either appears to be not ready for prime time.

Rams | Brandin Cooks fine tuning game    Fri Jun 21, 10:21 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks said he has focused on improving his timing with QB Jared Goff this offseason. 'You can always have perfect timing out there when you're throwing on air,' Cooks said. 'But now we've got defenders out there, just continue to work on that and get better at that, so we can be the best we can possibly be.'

Footballguys view: Cooks was fantastic in 2021 and defied the "first year with a new quarterback" drag on production for the second straight year. He should build on his strong campaign this year now that he has continuity for the first offseason since 2016.

Rams | Robert Woods expecting more    Fri Jun 21, 10:13 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods said he is capable of building on his performance from 2018 and feels he will ultimately be rewarded for his play with a contract extension. 'And I just think my play will show it all,' Woods said. 'I feel like I will get what I deserve.'

Footballguys view: Woods had a massive breakout in 2018 and he is also a top blocking wide receiver. He should get a payday in 2022 if the Rams let his contract expire without an extension, but he is actually underpaid at 5.5 million in 2020 and 7.5 million in 2021.

Rams | Trainer confirms Todd Gurley's arthritic knee    Mon Jun 17, 04:07 PM

Updating previous reports. Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is in fact dealing with arthritis in his knee after months of speculation. Travelle Gaines, who has trained Gurley for three years, suggested 'not one thing has changed' in regards to his client and that 'our routine has worked, he's been strong, he's been in great shape, he's done well.' Gaines went on to say the decision this offseason to have Gurley drop six pounds and trim his body fat from 10 percent to seven was not due to injuries and more to accentuate his speed. The trainer also said 'it's never been told to me' that the Rams plan on decreasing Gurley's workload come Week 1.'Everybody knew when Todd came out of Georgia that there would be some kind of arthritic component to his knee, which is part of every surgery whether it's a shoulder, a knee, an ankle. He's now at the Year 5 mark; all we're doing is managing that. If we can pound him less in the offseason while keeping his weight down, working on his strength, working on his agility in short areas, that's going to give him a better chance to be healthy Weeks 14 through 17 when they really count,' Gaines said.

Footballguys view: Gaines has been a trainer for some of the best players in the NFL (and the NBA too), so we'll listen to what he has to say about Gurley. The veteran superstar RB has seen his ADP slide in recent weeks as Fantasy GMs are nervous about his knee condition and about the Rams perhaps using more Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson to spell Gurley in 2019. Gurley now is a boom/bust pick for Fantasy GMs in the early second round.

Los Angeles Times, Rams G.M.   Rams | Gerald Everett making strides    Fri Jun 14, 09:44 PM

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett has become a more complete tight end, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'I think the game's slowing down for him,' McVay said this week. 'I think you're just seeing a guy gain confidence, gain experience.'

Footballguys view: Everett is a talented big-bodied receiving tight end who has flashed during his brief pro career. We'll see if he can be a more consistent part of the Rams high-powered passing game in 2019. Right now, Everett should only be seen by Fantasy GMs as a streaming option and he's currently not getting drafted in most 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Todd Gurley downplays knee issue    Tue Jun 11, 05:35 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) told reporters Tuesday, June 11, that he is 'fine' and 'doing the same kinds of things he's always done in the offseason. He also suggested the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in college was a 'bigger problem' for him coming out of college than his current issue.

Footballguys view: Gurley may think he's 'fine' but Fantasy GMs are not feeling the same way. There is a ton of hesitation (for good reason) when it comes to selecting Gurley with a top-10 fantasy pick. We are hearing the team could use Darrell Henderson or Malcolm Brown a little bit more to give Gurley a breather. There are also reports about Gurley's role being smaller than it has been in the past. Oh yeah, Gurley is unlikely to play in the preseason too. Gurley has superstar talent but we'll have to see what the news brings for him and the offense in training camp. Stay tuned.

Rams | Darrell Henderson inks rookie deal    Fri Jun 7, 03:36 PM

Los Angeles Rams third-round RB Darrell Henderson (Memphis) signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, June 7. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Henderson is one of the hottest names in fantasy right now and for good reason. There is nothing positive around Todd Gurley's knee and Henderson should get a large opportunity with Gurley's workload cut back this year. He could turn a lot of the big runs CJ Anderson had last year down the stretch into touchdowns and be an instant hit even with a fully functional Gurley.

Rams | Trio of draft picks sign with Rams    Fri Jun 7, 01:49 PM

Los Angeles Rams S Taylor Rapp, S Nick Scott and LB Dakota Allen, all draft picks selected in April, signed their rookie contracts with the team Friday, June 7.

Footballguys view: Rapp is almost certainly going to be the Eric Weddle replacement, and as soon as next year. He's the marquee name of this group in a "looking to the future" draft class for the Rams.

Rams | LAR want Todd Gurley to be comfortable    Mon Jun 3, 10:20 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley may look to lose some weight in order to reduce some of the stress on his knee, and head coach Sean McVay said Gurley can do what he wants so he can feel comfortable with his knee.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs want to be comfortable with Gurley, and they are not right now. The Rams are unlikely to continue using Gurley as a true bellcow back. He's a late first-round pick in most fantasy drafts right now, and Gurley is likely to split time in the backfield this season. Rookie Darrell Henderson is a player we're excited to see in the preseason. The Rams could use Henderson and Malcolm Brown a bit more in 2019 to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | David Long tough to throw on in college    Sun Jun 2, 01:15 AM

Los Angeles Rams third-round CB David Long (Michigan) allowed only 29 percent of the targets in his coverage to be completed in 2018 - the lowest completion percentage among draft-eligible cornerbacks with a minimum of 150 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Long was drafted as an eventual replacement for Marcus Peters or Aqib Talib. Both will be free agents next year. Long is a press man specialist who fits well in the Rams defensive scheme. He has a shutdown corner's game even though he lacks elite tools. The Rams could be in good hands if they suffer an injury at corner this year.

Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely to play in preseason    Fri May 31, 05:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley likely will not see any playing time during the preseason, according to general manager Les Snead.

Footballguys view: The mystery around Todd Gurley continues. The knee problem he had at the end of last year has impacted the way the team is treating him this offseason. They may use more Malcolm Brown or Darrell Henderson this season when Gurley needs a breather. He's trimmed down his weight and now the team isn't going to use him in the preseason. Gurley is at RB7 right now in 12-team PPR leagues and this news may drop his ADP slightly.

Rams | Todd Gurley slimming down    Thu May 30, 02:38 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) reportedly plans on playing about six pounds lighter this season, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.

Footballguys view: The reduced weight could be better for his knee in 2019. Gurley wore down late last season and wasn't himself when he returned for the Rams in the postseason. The weight is one thing, but the Rams should also use a little bit more of guys like Malcolm Brown or rookie Darrell Henderson just to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | Todd Gurley working out at team facility    Tue May 28, 06:38 PM

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) has been a regular at the team facility this offseason, according to head coach Sean McVay, despite his absence from organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee was problematic last year towards the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. We should see Gurley get more of a breather this year with guys like Malcolm Brown or Darrell Henderson getting a big of work running the rock. McVay added the team plans to hold Gurley out of practice in the offseason. We'd speculate the team limits Gurley in the preseason schedule too.

Rams | No sign of Todd Gurley at OTAs    Tue May 28, 03:32 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was not on the field as the team kicked off its second week of organized team activities Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee became a big problem at the end of the 2018 season and in the postseason, leading to C.J. Anderson emerging as their most productive back. Anderson is gone to the Lions, so the Rams are looking at Malcolm Brown and rookie Darrell Henderson as running back mates with Gurley. We love Gurley's ability but the role might be different this year if Brown or Henderson are mixed in a bit more. His current ADP is RB7 (1.10) in 12-team PPR leagues and at that price point we're looking elsewhere.

Footballguys view: Love this news here. Kupp can be such a big part of the Rams high-powered passing attack and the offense can be so dangerous, even more so than normal, with him on the field. He's currently going off the board at WR20 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Footballguys view: Kupp made it through eight games last year before going down with a knee injury. It's been smooth sailing during his recovery with no known setbacks for the young wide receiver. Rams head coach Sean McVay said the goal is for Kupp to be ready for Week 1. Fantasy GMs are taking Kupp off the board at WR19 (4.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Darrell Henderson likes fit with Rams    Sun May 19, 02:45 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Darrell Henderson, a third-round rookie out of Memphis, recently told the Los Angeles Times that he's feeling right at home with his new team. 'If you go back and watch my college film and you watch the Rams film, it's the same,' Henderson told the Los Angeles Times this week. 'I thought that was the best system I could get in. So everything worked out great. When I was talking to them, everything was clicking and we developed a relationship. The coaches told me they knew they were going to get me so it was the perfect fit.'

Footballguys view: Henderson is a big play just waiting to happen. He's fast in a straight line and can eat up chunks of yards quickly. Henderson is not a pile-pusher in the middle, but he's not afraid to run inside. Scouts say his skill set is reminiscent of Tevin Coleman because of his ability to make field-flipping plays. The rookie will serve as a change-of-pace back behind Todd Gurley in 2019.

Rams | Darrell Henderson draws lofty comparison    Fri May 10, 12:35 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Darrell Henderson has his new team excited after drafting him in the third round. '(He) gives us an (Alvin) Kamara element,' general manager Les Snead said. Added head coach Sean McVay: 'We'd identified him as a guy that has a specific skill set, that really can do some unique things for us offensively. He was one of those guys that stood out for us, so we're excited about getting him here.'

Footballguys view: Lance Dunbar and Alvin Kamara are very different players, but the team has compared Henderson to both. Just know that he is the best big play runner in this draft and he's in a situation that made CJ Anderson a fantasy star late last year. Henderson will be an essential high ceiling bench stash in redraft and late first round value in dynasty rookie drafts.
