Rams | Gerald Everett productive after catch    Sun May 28, 03:32 PM

Los Angeles Rams rookie TE Gerald Everett forced nine more missed tackles in any of the college tight end last season and generated 63.5 percent of his 1,593 career receiving yards after the catch, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: In 2016, Everett averaged a whopping 11.38 yards after the catch per reception. That ranked second in the nation and was almost double the FBS average of 6.34. His route running is poor, but that should improve with NFL coaching. Everett also needs to play with better concentration as he dropped 9.1 percent (FBS average was 4.4 percent) of the passes sent his way in 2016.

Rams | Robert Woods eyeing lead receiver role    Sat May 27, 01:00 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods is determined to be a 'No. 1 receiver,' according to the Los Angeles Times' Gary Klein.

Footballguys view: Woods is out to prove that he's more than a decent no2 wide receiver in the NFL. That's the role he played in Buffalo behind Sammy Watkins, but with his new team Woods will have a chance to be the main man. We see him as a low-ceiling WR1 for the Rams, especially since they made moves in the draft to add pass-catching talent like WR Cooper Kupp, WR Josh Reynolds and TE Gerald Everett. Projecting Woods to catch around 60-ish passes is fair, but that doesn't make him much of a fantasy asset. Woods is getting drafted as a late-round flier (WR73, 14.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Robert Woods to lead team in catches?    Wed May 24, 12:52 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods is 'perhaps the best bet to lead the (team) in catches,' according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Footballguys view: Woods has been waiting for an opportunity to show that he can be more than a no2 WR like he was in Buffalo. With Kenny Britt (Browns) moving on in free agency, the Rams should see Woods as the no1 WR and he could become a favorite for QB Jared Goff. Taking a late-round flier on Woods isn't a bad idea. His current ADP is WR71 (14.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Jared Goff discusses progress    Tue May 23, 01:01 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff said Monday, May 22, learning Rams head coach Sean McVay's offense has been easier than last year's learning curve under then-head coach Jeff Fisher. Goff noted how different the systems are to learn, and Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur praised Goff's pace of picking up the system.

Footballguys view: The Rams should put in an offense catered to Goff's skill set. Goff needs to get rid of the ball quicker, and show better poise when facing the blitz. The Rams worked to put better weapons around him in the passing game, and that alone should help him take a step forward in 2017.

Rams | Aaron Donald not at practice    Mon May 22, 06:09 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald is not participating in organized team activities but is having serious contract extension talks with the Rams, according to general manager Les Snead. It appears Donald is skipping practice so he can avoid injuries.

Rams | Gerald Everett may have Jordan Reed role    Fri May 19, 07:36 PM

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett said he expects to have a role similar to the one Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed had in head coach Sean McVay's offensive scheme.

Footballguys view: The potential to be a Pro Bowl caliber player (eventually) is there for the rookie from South Alabama. The Rams added Everett in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft with the idea that he could be a playmaker in McVay's offense. He's not a great route runner, but that could get better in time. What Everett can do is burn any linebacker trying to cover him after the catch. He's a mismatch on the field due to his athleticism and WR-like ball skills.

Rams | Cooper Kupp opens eyes    Thu May 18, 11:29 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp stood out in rookie minicamp, according to head coach Sean McVay, and McVay praised Kupp for his consistency.

Footballguys view: Kupp should be opening eyes, as he's really a talented player. Coming out of Eastern Washington, Kupp looks like Eric Decker because of his hands and route-running ability. He was a productive slot receiver in college, but he could move outside in the pros too.

Rams | Two moves made by Rams    Tue May 16, 07:15 PM

Los Angeles Rams LB Folarin Orimolade was waived Tuesday, May 16, while C Austin Blythe was claimed off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. Additionally, undrafted free-agent CB Dominique Hatfield was signed.

Rams | Los Angeles makes several roster moves    Mon May 15, 06:28 PM

The Los Angeles Rams signed undrafted free-agent RB De'Mard Llorens (Northwestern State), WR Shakeir Ryan (Northwestern State) and LB Teidrick Smith (Mary Hardin-Baylor) Monday, May 15. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also waived CB Jared Collins and C Anthony McMeans.

Footballguys view: Llorens was super productive in college at Northwestern State, and he's a no-nonsense runner who can run through arm tackles regularly. He's not a burner, but Llorens is an intent runner at 5'9" 215 pounds and capable receiver out of the backfield. In the deepest of deep dynasty leagues we will be monitoring his progress.

Rams | Cooper Kupp has an edge on Josh Reynolds    Sat May 13, 09:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp and WR Josh Reynolds are going to have different route trees, according to head coach Sean McVay, because Kupp is used to lining up all over the formation while Reynolds played in a spread system and lined up mostly outside the numbers.

Footballguys view: Kupp has the edge as well because he's simply a better route runner and is able to get separation with guile and cunning. The rookie from Easter Washington plays like a younger version of Eric Decker (Jets), and Kupp could become a favorite target for QB Jared Goff.

Rams | Mark Barron will only play LB    Sat May 13, 02:10 PM

Los Angeles Rams LB Mark Barron will strictly be used at linebacker in 2017, according to defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Barron received some time at safety in the past.

Rams | Jared Goff impressing new staff    Sat May 13, 11:19 AM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff has been exceedingly present this spring and picked up the new playbook at a 'surprisingly quick pace,' according to new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

Footballguys view: The Rams have to get Goff on the right track. They made him the no.1 overall pick last year for a reason, but the Cal QB looked lost as a rookie in 2016. LaFleur's offense should have a Washington/Atlanta feel to it, and it could be a system that makes Goff more comfortable than whatever Jeff Fisher was trying to do with him last year.

Rams | Coach high on Cooper Kupp    Sat May 13, 12:21 AM

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp displayed the knowledge of an NFL receivers coach during interviews at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, according to head coacg Sean McVay. 'He is one of the more polished college receivers that I've evaluated coming out in a while,' McVay said.

Footballguys view: Kupp is basically a rookie version of Eric Decker (Jets). He's not going to run by defenders, but he's going to get open with great route-running ability and Kupp will catch everything thrown his way.

Rams | Gerald Everett to have a role?    Sat May 13, 12:13 AM

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett could be used in three-tight-end packages with TE Tyler Higbee and TE Temarrick Hemingway, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'So we feel very good about adding Gerald to that mix, and I think it will help us overall offensively in the way that we'll be able to attack people,' McVay said.

Footballguys view: That would make a lot of sense. Everett is super athletic and a former basketball star who took to the gridiron to play football only a handful of years ago. The South Alabama prospect is not a refined route runner, but his athleticism and leaping ability make him difficult to match up with.

Rams | Tavon Austin to sit out OTAs    Fri May 5, 03:34 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin (wrist) will miss OTAs after undergoing surgery on his left wrist but is expected to be ready for training camp, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Footballguys view: Austin's role with the team might be different according to early reports. Some reporters feel that Austin could play a DeSean Jackson-like role for former Washington OC (and new Rams head coach) Sean McVay.

Rams | Tavon Austin to become more of a deep threat?    Fri May 5, 01:14 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin is expected to establish himself as more of a downfield threat, similar to what DeSean Jackson for new head coach Sean McVay when he was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Footballguys view: While the report indicates he could be like Jackson, we think Austin could be (and is similarly built to) Jamison Crowder. It will be interesting to see how the offense is crafted under McVay, and this team needs a ton of work in the passing game. Right now, fantasy owners aren't over the moon about Austin. He has a current ADP of WR79 (14.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms with undrafted free-agent RB Justin Davis (Southern California) and TE Johnny Mundt (Oregon) Saturday, April 29. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Davis could be a decent third-down back eventually, but is probably a practice squad back at best with Lance Dunbar in Los Angeles.

Rams | Tavon Austin could move outside    Sun Apr 30, 12:15 AM

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin could move to the outside or be utilized more in the run game if WR Cooper Kupp is a better option as a slot receiver, according to beat writer Rich Hammond.

Footballguys view: Austin's deep speed isn't being used nearly enough, and he hasn't been the open field threat the Rams envisioned when they drafted him in the top 10 or signed him to a big extension. He's barely draftable in PPR leagues. Kupp could be a high volume target with so little at wide receiver for this team, but he still landed in a bad fantasy spot as long as Jared Goff is a work in progress.

Rams | Pharoh Cooper's role unknown    Sat Apr 29, 11:34 PM

Los Angeles Rams WR Pharoh Cooper's role in the offense remains unclear heading into the 2017 season.

Footballguys view: Cooper was never a great fit as an "offensive weapon" on a team that already had one with a big financial commitment in Tavon Austin. He might not make the team in a year or two with a new regime in place.

Rams | John Johnson drafted by LAR    Fri Apr 28, 10:57 PM

The Los Angeles Rams selected S John Johnson with the 91st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Fridat, April 28.

Footballguys view: Johnson can track the ball well, and finish against receivers. He doesn't have the build to really be a force as a tackler but is solid in coverage.

Rams | Rams grab Cooper Kupp    Fri Apr 28, 10:00 PM

The Los Angeles Rams selected WR Cooper Kupp with the 69th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Kupp isn't going to win any sprints but his athleticism and the cuts in his route running are exceptional. He's a productive player who will be a big help to Jared Goff.

Rams | Gerald Everett selected by the Rams    Fri Apr 28, 08:17 PM

The Los Angeles Rams selected South Alabama TE Gerald Everett with the No. 44 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Consider this a gift for Jared Goff - an actual red zone target. Beyond that, it's a solid pick and hopefully a sign the team is serious about building this offense up soon.

Rams | Trumaine Johnson staying put    Mon Apr 24, 10:28 AM

Los Angeles Rams CB Trumaine Johnson, who was subject of trade talks, will remain with the Rams in 2017.

Footballguys view: With a second-year franchise tag placed on Johnson, he's set to be the league's highest paid corner with a salary in 2017 of $16.7 million. With that price tag, teams weren't interested and Johnson went without suitors on the trade block. He'll be an unrestricted free agent next year, and Johnson will likely bolt from the Rams for another big payday somewhere else.

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald said he will have a similar role on defense even though the team will be moving to a 3-4 defensive alignment under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. 'I'm still going to be a 3-technique; still a penetrate, get-up-field type of guy. I got to come here during the offseason and got to sit down and talk with him. I like his game plan and how he's going to use us, and the position he's going to put us in to have success,' Donald said.

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald could end up being the game's highest-paid defensive player for the end of the season, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Footballguys view: Donald is one of the best defenders in the game, and he's set to break the bank. Denver Broncos DE/LB Von Miller owes that designation right now, as he is working under a six-year contract worth $114.5 million with $70 million guaranteed.

Rams | Team effort needed for Todd Gurley rebound    Tue Apr 4, 12:43 AM

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said 'it's going to take everybody' for RB Todd Gurley to have a 'bounce-back year,' referring to the linemen and receivers being able to make blocks 'because everybody is tied together.' McVay added: 'Clearly, what he did in his rookie year, I think it sets the expectations where this guy is going to be a great back year-in and year-out.'

Footballguys view: McVay's words should dampen bounce back enthusiasm a bit with Gurley still drawing a second-round ADP in early drafts. The offense should improve with competent coaching and the addition of a strong left tackle Andrew Whitworth, but Gurley's outlook isn't that much rosier unless Jared Goff, the passing game, and the rest of the offensive line take big steps forward this year.
