Rams | Brian Quick progressing    Thu Mar 26, 06:49 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick (shoulder) is making progress in recovering from a torn rotator cuff and separated shoulder he suffered last October. Head coach Jeff Fisher has described Quick's injuries as significant and has not disclosed any timetable in regards to Quick's return. Fisher did say that Quick is coming along after a difficult time during the early stages of rehabilitation.

Footballguys view: Quick was such a disappointment for most of his career, but last season he started to flash his potential. Over the first five games of 2014, Quick had 21 catches and three receiving touchdowns. If healthy, Quick should be able to pick up where he left off.

Rams | Nick Foles didn't see trade coming    Fri Mar 20, 11:33 AM

St. Louis Rams QB Nick Foles said he didn't know the Philadelphia Eagles were looking to trade him, despite rumors swirling about their intentions, and the first time he learned about the move was the moment Eagles head coach Chip Kelly called him to say Foles had been dealt to the Rams.

Footballguys view: He'll be alright. In fact, Foles is a better fit for the Rams offense than he is the Eagles offense. We'll see how he works in a more traditional offense in 2015.

Rams | Jake Long could return    Mon Mar 16, 02:16 AM

Free-agent OL Jake Long (Rams) could be back as the team's right tackle on a shorter deal that would pay less money. Any decision to sign Long to a new deal would not likely come until after the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The team will use Greg Robinson as their left tackle regardless of Long coming back. He's not the player he used to be, and Long struggles to stay healthy each season.

Free-agent C Stefen Wisniewski (Raiders) may meet with the St. Louis Rams this week, according to his agent.

Rams | Kenny Britt can void deal    Sat Mar 14, 11:25 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt could void his contract after only one season if he performs well enough during the 2015 season.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if he was able to void this deal. Talent is no question with Britt, but staying focused and staying healthy have been problems throughout Britt's pro career.

Rams | Kenny Britt re-signs with Rams    Fri Mar 13, 10:14 PM

Free-agent WR Kenny Britt is coming back to the St. Louis Rams on a two-year, $14 million deal with $4.3 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Britt had a career-high 48 catches last year, and he played a full 16 games for only the second time in his pro career. We'll see if he can keep trending upwards now that he's decided to stay with the Rams. We'll also see how he works with new quarterback Nick Foles. Britt is supremely talented, but he's rarely played up to that potential.

Rams | Joseph Barksdale still an option    Fri Mar 13, 05:43 PM

Free-agent OT Joseph Barksdale (Rams) is still receiving interest from the St. Louis Rams.

Footballguys view: Barksdale is one of the best remaining right tackles on the open market. In addition to playing tackle, he can move inside to guard.

Rams | Nick Fairley joins St. Louis    Fri Mar 13, 12:10 PM

Free-agent DT Nick Fairley (Lions) agreed to terms with the St. Louis Rams Friday, March 13.

Footballguys view: The Rams continue to add talent to their defense this offseason. Fairley has never played up to his potential as a pro--but the raw talent is certainly there. If he can stay healthy and motivated, then Fairley will give the Rams yet another player who can make opposing quarterbacks feel uncomfortable.

Rams | Akeem Ayers joins St. Louis    Thu Mar 12, 09:48 PM

Free-agent LB Akeem Ayers (Patriots) has signed a two-year contract with the St. Louis Rams worth $6 million with $3 million guaranteed, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Originally a second-round pick for the Titans in 2011, Ayers did a good job as a part-time player for the Patriots last year. There are a few coaches on the staff that have familiarity with Ayers from his time with the Titans, and they'll know how to get the best out of him.

Rams | Nick Fairley to visit    Thu Mar 12, 12:30 PM

Free-agent DT Nick Fairley (Lions) will visit with the St. Louis Rams.

Footballguys view: Fairley has always had potential, but the big defensive lineman has never played up to it. He needs a fresh start, and that's what he's going to get since the Lions declined to pick up his fifth-year option. Fairley is a disruptive player inside, and he can get interior pressure on the quarterback. Staying healthy and motivated have been problems for him. With the Rams, Fairley could work well in a rotation.

Rams | Kenny Britt expected back with Rams    Wed Mar 11, 06:47 PM

Free-agent WR Kenny Britt (Rams) is expected to re-sign with the St. Louis Rams soon, in the opinion of NFL Media columnist Michael Silver.

Footballguys view: Brian Quick, Stedman Bailey, and Britt would split the somewhat meager production at the wide receiver position for the Rams. Lance Kendricks and Jared Cook will also get a good share of targets as one of the highest paid TE duos in the league, so the fantasy prospects in the Rams passing game aren't exactly bright.

Rams | Nick Foles officially acquired by STL    Tue Mar 10, 06:52 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles has officially been acquired by the St. Louis Rams. The Rams also receive a 2015 sixth-round draft pick and a 2016 second-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Foles will run a more traditional offense under Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. The offensive line is a work in progress and Foles isn't known to be that mobile anyway. It could be a rough year for the young quarterback, and his fantasy stock is trending down.

Rams | Lance Kendricks re-signs with St. Louis    Tue Mar 10, 06:19 PM

Free-agent TE Lance Kendricks (Rams) has agreed to terms with the St. Louis Rams on a four-year deal worth around $18.5 million.

Footballguys view: That's a pretty healthy contract for a player who has had a disappointing pro career. He was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Josh McDaniels offense years ago, but Kendricks failed to play up to his potential. Fantasy owners won't be looking to Kendricks for much help in 2015.

Rams | Acquire Case Keenum    Tue Mar 10, 05:47 PM

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum has been traded to the St. Louis Rams Tuesday, March 10, in exchange for a 2016 seventh-round draft pick, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Rams get a backup for Nick Foles. Keenum will battle Austin Davis for the QB2 job in 2015.

Rams | Nick Foles expected to join Rams    Tue Mar 10, 04:07 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is close to being acquired by the St. Louis Rams in exchange for QB Sam Bradford, according to sources. The Rams will also receive draft-pick compensation.

Footballguys view: The Eagles and Rams are switching quarterbacks here. Bradford failed to stay healthy and play up to his potential with the Rams, and he needed a fresh start. His accuracy on intermediate routes is exactly what the Eagles need at the position. Foles gets a fresh start in a more traditional offense with the Rams.

Rams | Stefen Wisniewski may be option    Mon Mar 9, 07:43 PM

Oakland Raiders impending free-agent C Stefen Wisniewski has received interest from the St. Louis Rams.

Footballguys view: The Rams have a need at center after they released Scott Wells earlier on Monday. Wisniewski is one of the best young centers available on the open market.

Rams | Jake Long, Scott Wells cut    Mon Mar 9, 06:41 PM

St. Louis Rams OT Jake Long and C Scott Wells have been informed that they have been released.

Footballguys view: The Rams will save around $12 million in salary cap space with the moves. Without Long at left tackle (something they're used to because he's been hurt so much) we'll see Greg Robinson in that spot. Long may be considering retirement.

Rams | Austin Davis tendered by Rams    Fri Mar 6, 10:27 PM

St. Louis Rams restricted free-agent QB Austin Davis received a tender offer at the minimum level Friday, March 6. The Rams get matching rights, but no compensation if Davis signs elsewhere.

Footballguys view: Davis stays with the Rams....but they need more (and better) help at the quarterback position. Sam Bradford is not willing to restructure his deal, and he's not an exciting starting option anyway. We have heard little buzz about the Rams trading for Jay Cutler, but that is not out of the question.

Rams | Sam Bradford hesitant to take pay cut    Fri Mar 6, 08:34 AM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford has been reticent to take a pay cut from the $16.58 million he counts against the 2015 salary cap.

Footballguys view: LOL. Why would he want to take a pay cut? He's only lived up to his large contract....no wait...it's the exact opposite. Bradford has struggled on the field, and he's struggled to stay on the field with the Rams. He's in a make-or-break season with the Rams this year. Bradford should kick back some of the money this year to help out the team.

Rams | Interested in Darnell Dockett    Wed Mar 4, 07:14 PM

Free-agent DT Darnell Dockett (Cardinals) has received interest from the St. Louis Rams. However, he's expected to choose between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, March 4.

Footballguys view: We'd love to see Dockett on the Rams. He's not the player he used to be, but Dockett would be a fine part-time pass-rusher for any team interested in him.

Rams | Pass protection key for Tre Mason    Thu Feb 26, 10:11 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason didn't play until Week 6 of last season because of his issues with pass protection, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: Mason had a fine rookie season after starting slow. He finished the year with two 100-yard rushing games and five total touchdowns. Expect him to be the lead back for the Rams in 2015, and he has the potential to finish as a top-15 fantasy running back.

Rams | Kendall Langford released    Thu Feb 26, 04:09 PM

St. Louis Rams DT Kendall Langford was released Thursday, Feb. 26, saving the team $6 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall here since Langford lost his starting job in the fall to Aaron Donald. He should get plenty of interest on the open market now that he's been released.

Rams | Jake Long likely to be released    Tue Feb 24, 09:20 PM

The St. Louis Rams are likely to released OT Jake Long this offseason for savings against the salary cap, according to beat writer Nick Wagoner.

Footballguys view: Long has a cap hit of $10.5 million this year, but there's only $2.5 million left in dead money. He's a talented player when healthy, but he's rarely been able to stay off the injury report. We'll see Greg Robinson take over at left tackle for the Rams.

Rams | Sam Bradford trade unlikely    Tue Feb 24, 05:17 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford will probably not be traded this offseason despite interest from the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. As of Tuesday, Feb. 24, no teams have contacted the Rams about trading Bradford.

Footballguys view: What would the Rams get for a guy who can't stay healthy? Bradford is likely an 'OK' starter, but he's barely been able to play as a pro because of various injuries. We're likely to see Bradford stay with the Rams for one more year. It's certainly a make-or-break year for the former number one pick.

Rams | St. Louis will talk with Jameis Winston    Fri Feb 20, 05:10 PM

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is scheduled to meet with the St. Louis Rams during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Footballguys view: They seem all in on Sam Bradford, but maybe they're looking to fall in love? We don't know what Bradford can do and on top of that, the guy cannot stay healthy. Would it be a shock if they selected a quarterback and moved on from Bradford? Not really. They'd still need to do the same for Winston that they need to do for any quarterback - get him some reliable weapons.

Rams | HC in Sam Bradford's corner    Fri Feb 20, 02:30 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) is coming back-to-back seasons of anterior cruciate ligament tears in his knees, but head coach Jeff Fisher is betting on Bradford to be the team's quarterback in 2015. Fisher said that Bradford remains ahead of schedule in his rehab and is working at the team's complex every day. Bradford won't be used any differently in training camp or the preseason in order to try and prevent another injury.

Footballguys view: It sounds like the Rams are all in on Bradford, so now the question is whether they can get him some better weapons to throw to. Bradford has had moments where he looked worthy of the No. 1 pick, but not consistently and he's been injured so often that we're at t he end of his contract with no real idea of his true worth.

Rams | Chris Weinke hired    Thu Feb 19, 10:06 AM

Former QB Chris Weinke was hired by the St. Louis Rams as quarterbacks coach Thursday, Feb. 19.

Footballguys view: Weinke has been working with quarterbacks at the IMG Academy down in Florida. He's hired to work with Sam Bradford...or any young quarterback the Rams bring in this year. Weinke didn't work out as a pro QB, but he's certainly carved out a nice role as a QB coach.

Rams | Losing Sam Bradford not the answer    Wed Feb 18, 04:04 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford may still have a future with the Rams after general manager Les Snead said Wednesday, Feb. 18, that deleting Bradford is not the answer. Snead reiterated that eliminating Bradford was not the answer when asked about trade rumors involving the injury-prone quarterback.

Footballguys view: Bradford isn't the answer either. We would be absolutely floored if Bradford 1) stayed healthy, and 2) was worth a damn in 2015. He's "OK" as a starter, but Bradford is nothing to write home about...even when he is healthy.

Rams | Sam Bradford can seek trade    Wed Feb 18, 02:10 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford has permission to seek a trade. Bradford's agent can speak to other teams, but it will be difficult to find compensations to the Rams liking.

Footballguys view: The Rams have wasted too much time with Bradford. He's an okay starter, but he can't stay healthy. Bradford is likely to play one more year with the Rams, and it's certainly a "prove it" year for the rest of his career.

Link to story

Rams | Sam Bradford has no competition right now    Sat Feb 14, 02:17 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford isn't facing any competition currently, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher had previously said that Bradford would have competition for the starting quarterback position, but said that competition isn't currently in the building.

Footballguys view: Yes, before the offseason gets underway, Bradford doesn't have any competition. However, we expect that to change as quickly as possible. Bradford has talent, but he's failed to stay healthy as a pro and he certainly hasn't played up to his large contract. The Rams need to have other/better options.

Rams | Sam Bradford expected to return    Sat Feb 14, 08:54 AM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) is expected to return to the team next season and likely will be the starter if he is healthy next season. The team would like him to restructure his contract in order to lower his salary cap hit, but there has not been much movement in those talks.

Rams | Tavon Austin to be more involved    Fri Feb 13, 05:44 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin will be more involved in the offense next season, according to offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti.

Footballguys view: Former Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer never found a way to use Austin correctly. We saw flashes of what he could be, but Austin was never used consistently. It will be interesting to see if he can be more involved in 2015. Dynasty owners should perk up hearing this news.

Rams | Rams to decide on Chris Givens' future    Sun Feb 8, 08:19 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.574 million with a cap count of $1.698 million.

Footballguys view: The team might deem it too much if Givens is the fifth receiver in a group with WRs Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Releasing Givens would save the team $1.574 million.

Rams | Isaiah Pead could be dumped by Rams    Sun Feb 8, 08:18 PM

The St. Louis Rams might consider releasing RB Isaiah Pead this offseason. The move would create just under $941,000 of additional cap space. The club has RBs Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy and Trey Watts on the roster, and Pead hasn't had much impact since being drafted in the second round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: We're surprised Pead has made it this long with the Rams. That might have to do with him being a second-round pick a few years ago. Pead lacks the ability to make much of an impact as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. This free agent and draft class is incredibly strong at running back. If on the open market, we can't imagine Pead drawing a lot of attention.

Rams | St. Louis might release Scott Wells    Sun Feb 8, 08:14 PM

The St. Louis Rams could released C Scott Wells this offseason if they decide to get younger at the center position. An outright release saves the team $3.5 million. He is due a $1 million roster bonus on the third day of the new league year which begins March 10.

Rams | Sam Bradford may be asked to rework deal    Sun Feb 8, 01:18 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford may be asked to restructure his contract this offseason, so the team can reduce his $12.985 million salary for 2015.

Footballguys view: The Rams need to make this happen. Bradford has talent, but he's struggled to stay healthy during his pro career, and he's cost the Rams a ton of money. Bradford counts $16.58 million against the salary cap next season, but the team could save $12.985 in cap space if Bradford is released.

Rams | Begin contract talks with Kenny Britt    Sun Jan 25, 07:19 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt and his agents have started contract talks with the team. Britt, who has been in St. Louis just one season, indicated he wanted to remain with the club past 2014.

Footballguys view: It's a good move for both sides. Britt still has fantastic talent, he just needs to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential. The Rams don't have great depth at the position, and they could really use a wideout like Britt in 2015. Now, they just need a quarterback to go along with him.

Rams | Keeping eye on Shane Carden    Sun Jan 25, 07:13 AM

East Carolina QB Shane Harden is being looked at by the St. Louis Rams in the lead-up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Harden was at the 2015 Reese's Senior Bowl, but he failed to impress. Our very own Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman report that Harden struggled with accuracy and decision making during the week of practice. Harden is likely to be a fourth- or fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. His upside is that of a career backup. The Rams need to aim quite a bit higher.

Rams | Kenny Britt wants to stay in St. Louis    Tue Jan 6, 06:21 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt said he wants to return to St. Louis next year. Britt will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Footballguys view: Britt wants to stay with Jeff Fisher. A first-round pick by Fisher and the Tennessee Titans in 2009, Britt has struggled with injuries and inconsistencies as a pro. He recorded a career-high 48 catches with the Rams in 2014.

However, head coach Jeff Fisher made it clear that nothing will be guaranteed for Bradford. Bradford continues to rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and he heads into an uncertain offseason. Fisher said the team plans to bring Bradford back at a reduced rate next year. He currently is scheduled to cost $16.58 million against the salary cap.
