Rams | Trumaine Johnson could receive franchise tag Sun Feb 19, 09:59 AM
The Los Angeles Rams are considering giving CB Trumaine Johnson the franchise tag for the second consecutive season.
|Footballguys view: If the Rams did that, Johnson would be hitting the open markeet in 2018. If he receives the tag, he will make $16.74 million in 2017. The Rams have until March 1 to make a decision. Tagging him would give the team until July 15th to work out a new long-term contract.|

Rams | Balanced offense for Jared Goff Sat Feb 18, 09:54 PM
Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is a 'natural thrower,' according to offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, and LaFleur said he plans to 'marry' the run and the pass in 2017.
|Footballguys view: The Rams need to make things work with Goff if they can. Goff has a quick release and can throw accurately on underneath routes. He's a rhythm passer who played best at a fast tempo in college. We think the Rams should use an up-tempo scheme in order to play to Goff's strengths.|

Rams | Jared Goff working with QB gurus Thu Feb 16, 08:57 PM
Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is working with quarterback gurus Tom House and Adam Dedeaux this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Goff didn't show a ton in his short time as a starting rookie, but with Jeff Fisher out, the Rams now have a chance to rebuild from the ground up without disrupting much of anything. We still feel he has some nice upside, but unless they can get him more potent weapons, his fantasy future looks dim.|

Rams | Todd Gurley got impatient Wed Feb 15, 09:25 AM
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley became impatient and went away from the play call when holes didn't open up early, according to running backs coach Skip Peete. 'He started changing what he was trying to do,' Peete said. 'The most important thing, like we talked about, is you have to have total confidence in the scheme of the play.' Peete also said Gurley needs to improve his pass blocking.
|Footballguys view: The Rams need to do what they can to get Gurley back on track. He could be the best running back in the league, if the team is able to get the best out of his game. Gurley can be incredibly fantasy relevant, but his disappointing 2016 will cause his draft stock to fall.|

Rams | Kenny Britt likely to walk Mon Feb 13, 10:33 AM
Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Kenny Britt is likely to sign elsewhere in free agency, in the opinion of beat writer Alden Gonzalez.
|Footballguys view: The Rams are likely to move in a different direction at wide receiver, and all of the "Jeff Fisher guys" (like Britt) could be shown the door. Coming off the first 1,000-yard season of his career, Britt should have more than a few potential suitors.|

Rams | Big jump coming for Jared Goff? Sat Feb 11, 09:06 PM
Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is expected to make a 'huge jump' in his second season, according to quarterbacks coach Greg Olson, and Olson said he is looking forward to working with Goff.
|Footballguys view: Goff needs to take a big jump after a rocky rookie season in 2016. The first-overall pick was sacked too much, made too many mistakes and generally didn't look comfortable most of the time he dropped back to pass. We'll see if a new direction on offense can help him avoid the sophomore slump.|

Rams | LAR to use 3-4 defense Sat Feb 11, 10:51 AM
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said the team will be switching from a 4-3 base defense to a 3-4 defensive scheme for the 2017 season.
|Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Phillips' 3-4 defense is ferocious, aggressive and capable of winning games regularly. The Rams have the pieces in place to be an even more dominant unit on the defensive side of the ball.|
Rams | Todd Gurley's opinion valued Fri Feb 10, 10:14 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley told head coach Sean McVay he wanted another chance to work with running backs coach Skip Peete. 'When you've got a key player like that, you want to try to demonstrate that you're going to listen,' McVay said.
|Footballguys view: Gurley has superstar potential if the Rams can get the offense on track. He'll be the centerpiece of what they do this year as second-year QB Jared Goff continues to learn the ropes.|

Rams | Coach says Greg Robinson a big part of team Fri Feb 10, 07:32 PM
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said OT Greg Robinson is a big part of what the team wants to do on offense because of his athleticism.
|Footballguys view: McVay would not say if Robinson will remain at left tackle. We don't think he stays as the blind-side protector of QB Jared Goff.|

Rams | Matt LaFleur on verge of becoming Rams OC Tue Feb 7, 12:42 PM
Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur will be named as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams shortly, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: A bit of a surprise move here. LaFleur could have followed Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers, but instead he's going to Sean McVay's staff. We'll see how he crafts an offense built around 2016 no.1 overall pick Jared Goff.|
Rams | Los Angeles to pursue Matt LaFleur Sun Feb 5, 07:06 PM
The Los Angeles Rams will request permission to interview Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to league sources.
|Footballguys view: LaFleur could be a candidate to replace Kyle Shanahan, so it's far from certain that the Falcons will grant permission. The Rams need to get someone in place to jumpstart Jared Goff's development.|
Rams | Two coaches joining Rams staff Fri Feb 3, 07:04 PM
The Los Angeles Rams will hire Washington Redskins assistant coach Aubrey Pleasant as their new defensive backs coach and UCLA assistant coach Eric Yarber as their new wide receivers coach, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Pleasant is the fourth coach to leave Washington's staff this offseason. They wanted to keep him but could not agree on a new deal. Washington started interviewing other candidates last week, including former Steelers defensive coordinator Tim Lewis and former Bears safety Chris Harris. Today, Washington hired Florida DB coach Torrian Gray to replace Pleasant.|
Rams | Shane Waldron joining Rams staff Thu Feb 2, 01:35 PM
Washington Redskins assistant coach Shane Waldron will join the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff as their tight ends coach, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Waldron coached Steelers 2014 draft pick TE Rob Blanchflower at UMass and he was also the Patriots tight end coach for a short stint in 2009. Tyler Higbee's development could benefit from the addition of Waldron.|
Rams | Trumaine Johnson the top priority Sun Jan 29, 07:16 PM

Rams | Kenny Britt may not fit new offense Sat Jan 28, 09:07 PM
Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Kenny Britt's value will be discussed this offseason, according to general manager Les Snead, and Snead said the offensive staff first has to decide if Britt fits the new scheme.
|Footballguys view: Coming off the first 1,000-yard season of his career, the former first-round pick (2009) should attract plenty of interest on the open market. It's not a surprise if the Rams move on from "Jeff Fisher guys" like Britt. Early buzz has Washington interested in Britt's services.|

Rams | Brian Quick to be free agent Sat Jan 28, 03:49 PM
Los Angeles Rams WR Brian Quick will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.
|Footballguys view: Quick is coming off his best season as a pro. In 2016, Quick had career-high totals in catches (41), yards (564) and tied his career high in touchdowns (3). He could find interest on the open market from teams looking for a solid yet unspectacular complementary receiver.|

Rams | Robert Quinn may be used at OLB Sun Jan 22, 02:15 PM
Los Angeles Rams DE Robert Quinn may line up at outside linebacker next season since defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be using a hybrid 3-4 defensive alignment.
|Footballguys view: With only nine sacks over the last two years (with 16 games missed), Quinn's numbers will likely get a boost with Phillips calling the shots. He may not gather 50 tackles and 19 sacks like he did in 2013, but Quinn could approach those numbers if healthy.|

Rams | Kenny Britt set to be UFA Sat Jan 14, 04:38 PM
Los Angeles Rams WR Kenny Britt will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.
|Footballguys view: Britt had some chemistry with QB Jared Goff, so the Rams might want to bring the veteran back. Of course, there's been suggestions that "Jeff Fisher guys" like Britt could be let go. Britt is coming off the first 1,000-yard season of his career and should get a healthy amount of interest on the open market.|

The Los Angeles Rams were blocked from interviewing Miami Dolphins offensive line coach Chris Foerster for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to a source.

Rams | Sean McVay to call plays Sat Jan 14, 09:35 AM
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay will call his own offensive plays during the 2017 season.
|Footballguys view: McVay is known as an aggressive coach who wants to attack with his offense. Getting the most out of no.1 pick QB Jared Goff should be the top priority for the young head coach.|
Rams | Wade Phillips joining Los Angeles Thu Jan 12, 09:55 PM
Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has agreed to terms to become the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams Thursday, Jan. 12.
|Footballguys view: Phillips is done in Denver, and now the Rams get an even more swarming defense. He helped make the Broncos into Super Bowl champions last year, and Phillips should be able to make the Rams a ferocious unit in 2017. The Rams now have an aggressive young head coach in Sean McVay, and an aggressive veteran coach on defense who has been around football his entire life. That's a nice mix.|
Rams | Les Snead staying with Rams Thu Jan 12, 05:12 PM
General manager Les Snead will retain his position heading into 2017.
|Footballguys view: Snead had to work with Jeff Fisher....that alone makes him a saint. Well, maybe not saintly but he certainly had his challenges working with the veteran coach. Now, Snead will be working with 30-year old coach Sean McVay. Snead has picked some good players for the Rams, and we'll see how he works with McVay to get the most out of that talent.|
Rams | More details on Sean McVay hiring Thu Jan 12, 05:10 PM
Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was hired to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.Link to story
Rams | Sean McVay eyeing Wade Phillips Thu Jan 12, 04:35 PM
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is targeting Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips to be the Rams' new defensive coordinator.
|Footballguys view: Phillips seems to have worn out his welcome with the Broncos. He wants to be compensated like a top defensive coordinator -- and he should be after crafting a Super Bowl winning defense last year. Phillips could also be a consideration for Washington.|
Rams | Sean McVay hired by Rams Thu Jan 12, 04:30 PM
Former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay has been hired as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, according to a source. McVay is now the youngest head coach in NFL history. He turns 31 on Jan. 24.
|Footballguys view: McVay was certainly a fast riser through the coaching ranks. He was an assistant tight ends coach with Washington back in 2010, and McVay worked his way up to offensive coordinator. This is certainly a high-risk/high-reward hiring by the Rams, and we'll see how McVay works with 2016 first-round pick QB Jared Goff.|
Rams | Anthony Lynn to meet with Rams again Thu Jan 12, 09:37 AM
Buffalo Bills interim head coach Anthony Lynn is scheduled for a second interview with the Los Angeles Rams about their head coaching vacancy, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The Rams need some offensive help and while Lynn didn't get the job he wanted in Buffalo, he could be a solid fit for Jared Goff and Los Angeles. We know Lynn can design a scheme to lean on a great running back like Todd Gurley, and that's a good basis to start from for the Rams.|

Rams | Harold Goodwin meeting with Rams Wed Jan 4, 08:23 AM
Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin will interview with the Los Angeles Rams Thursday, Jan. 5, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Goodwin is getting some attention as a head coaching candidate again this offseason. He's been the OC for the Cardinals since 2013, but doesn't handle the play-calling duties. The Cardinals use head coach Bruce Arians for that, but in the preseason Goodwin did get three games to call the plays. Goodwin got interest last year from the Bucs before they hired Dirk Koetter.|
Rams | Multitude of players signed by Rams Tue Jan 3, 08:30 PM

Rams | Steve Wilks interviewing Monday Tue Jan 3, 04:00 PM
Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers assistant coach Steve Wilks is interviewing for the Los Angeles Rams' vacant head coaching position Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Rams | John Fassel interviews for permanent job Tue Jan 3, 03:53 PM
Los Angeles Rams interim head coach John Fassel interviewed for the permanent head coaching job Tuesday, Jan. 3.
|Footballguys view: After Jeff Fisher was fired, the Rams turned to Fassel as their interim head coach. The Rams did not look inspired with Fassel at the helm and continued to flounder after the switch, only scoring more than 7 points in one of the three games he coached. They went 0-3 with Fassel as interim head coach, and we don't think he's a serious contender for the permanent job.|

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has received an inquiry for permission to interview him for the Los Angeles Rams' head coaching vacancy.

Rams | LA seeks to interview Doug Marrone Mon Jan 2, 08:29 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars interim coach Doug Marrone is being sought for an interview by the Los Angeles Rams about their head coaching vacancy.
|Footballguys view: Marrone may not be quite as 'Hollywood' as the Rams want, but they are doing their due diligence here. We feel the Rams will make one of the more 'splashy' moves of the several teams in need of a new head coach.|
