Rams | Michael Sam fighting for spot    Thu Aug 28, 03:49 PM

St. Louis Rams DE Michael Sam is competing with DE Ethan Westbrooks for a spot on the final roster.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Sam has created some good pressure and logged some sacks while Westbrooks - an undrafted free agent - has played incredibly well and far exceeded expectations. It's unlikely they keep both but the Rams have to know that the one they drop is probably not making it to the practice squad as both players have done enough to generate interest among other NFL teams. Neither is likely to have fantasy value this year on the Rams, but they could in the right situation.

Rams | Two TEs may be up for one spot    Thu Aug 28, 03:30 PM

St. Louis Rams TEs Justice Cunningham and Alex Bayer likely are competing for one roster spot. Cunningham is considered a blocking tight end, while Bayer is a pass catcher. Cunningham may have the edge, because his blocking can translate to special teams.

Footballguys view: This is a team which seems to be poised to run the ball a ton. With Sam Bradford down, they're just going to try and control the clock on the ground and give their defense a break. So we agree Cunningham is the guy, though neither player is really fantasy relevant. Heck, Jared Cook actually gets targets and he's not all that relevant (we have him as a low end TE2).

Rams | Benny Cunningham may get snaps    Thu Aug 28, 12:43 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham has been the team's best running back during the preseason and could push RB Zac Stacy for playing time this season.

Footballguys view: We'll have to see if this pans out, but keep in mind that with the injury to Sam Bradford, the team might need to run the ball a ton. That would leave plenty of chances for both Stacy and Cunningham. We have Stacy as a solid RB2, but this is worth watching closely as Cunningham is a strong candidate for handcuffing at least.

Rams | Shaun Hill is the starter    Tue Aug 26, 11:08 AM

St. Louis Rams QB Shaun Hill will remain the starter, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Recent speculation placed the Rams the center of trade talks for a new quarterback, but Fisher said the team is committed to Hill.

Footballguys view: Hill is one of the better backups in the league and should keep the Rams offense on track to be the run-heavy/ball security unit they were when Sam Bradford went down last year. His arm isn't going to get Kenny Britt's highwire act back on the air, but otherwise, he'll be very functional.

Rams | Three get good injury news    Mon Aug 25, 06:17 PM

St. Louis Rams OG Rodger Saffold (ankle), DT Michael Brockers (ankle) and DT Kendall Langford (ankle) did not suffer serious injuries during the third preseason game and may be able to play in the final preseason game, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Rams | 10 players waived    Mon Aug 25, 04:39 PM

St. Louis Rams CB Jarrid Bryant, P Bobby Cowan, OT R.J. Dill, WR Jordan Harris, LS Jorgen Hus, FB Kadeem Jones, LB Johnny Millard, WR T.J. Moe, OT D.J. Morrell and LB Pat Schiller (undisclosed) Monday, Aug. 25. Schiller was waived/injured.

Footballguys view: Moe would be the player fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues might have been monitoring. After suffering an Achilles' injury last year when he was with the Patriots, Moe might never be the same player he was.

Rams | Shaun Hill takes over    Sun Aug 24, 06:40 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Shaun Hill will take over as the starting quarterback for the team, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: This team once lost Trent Green in the preseason and turned things over to an unknown in Kurt Warner. That team went on to win Super Bowl 34. The Rams have a world-class defense, but their offense isn't anywhere near what the "Greatest Show on Turf" was. Hill has plenty of experience and is one of the best--if not the best--backup quarterback in the league. Losing Bradford sucks, but it's far from a catastrophe.

Rams | Sam Bradford out for season    Sun Aug 24, 04:10 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) is out for the season after an MRI revealed a torn left anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: A brutal blow for both the Rams and Bradford. While he's under contract for both 2014 and 2015, it's hard to imagine the team holds onto him. They will likely move on after this year. Shaun Hill is Bradford's replacement, a good caretaker but not anyone we'd trust as a fantasy backup. The passing offense takes a little hit, but you can expect to see a ton of Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason going forward. Perhaps the Rams trade for another backup or starter but even then it would take a long time to catch up to speed this late in the preseason. This is a QB situation which you should stay away from this year.

Rams | Zac Stacy does not start    Sun Aug 24, 12:30 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not start in the third preseason game, because the team wanted to see what RB Benny Cunningham would do with the first-team offense, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher said the team knows what Stacy can do with the starting offense.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners shouldn't overreact here. Stacy is going off the board at RB14 (3.07) in 12-team PPR leagues. Cunningham looks to be ahead of rookie Tre Mason on the depth chart at this time.

Rams | Optimistic about Sam Bradford    Sat Aug 23, 11:35 PM

The St. Louis Rams are very optimistic that QB Sam Bradford (knee) will be able to return in the near future, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: It seems like the Rams have dodged a bullet here. We'll know more about this injury next week. At this time, it sounds like Bradford should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. If he misses any time this year, the Rams will be able to turn to one of the best backup QBs in the game today. They added Shaun Hill in free agency earlier this year.

Rams | Sam Bradford will not return    Sat Aug 23, 09:26 PM

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) suffered a knee injury in the third preseason game and will not return to the game.

Footballguys view: Initial reports seem to indicate the Rams have dodged a bullet here. If Bradford misses any time, the Rams have one of the best backup QBs in the game since they added Shaun Hill earlier this year in free agency.

St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt (shoulder) may sit out of the team's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns Saturday, Aug. 23, with a shoulder injury. Britt did practice this week, however.

Footballguys view: He's on his last chance in St. Louis but this is unlikely to be a make or break injury. That said, we don't see him as more than a WR6 despite an abundance of talent.

Rams | Jo-Lonn Dunbar out    Thu Aug 21, 07:19 PM

Rams | Jake Long to play    Thu Aug 21, 07:15 PM

St. Louis Rams OT Jake Long (knee) will play Saturday, Aug. 23, against the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: The Rams need Long 100 percent healthy going into the season if they want quarterback Sam Bradford to succeed. Long was a big help last season and they can't do without him.

Rams | Isaiah Pead to IR    Thu Aug 21, 05:08 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Isaiah Pead (knee) has cleared waivers and was placed on Reserve/Injured Thursday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: Pead never fulfilled on the promise he had coming into the league and might have a hard time finding a spot when he returns from the injury next year.

Rams | Isaiah Pead waived    Wed Aug 20, 04:23 PM

The St. Louis Rams waived RB Isaiah Pead (knee) with a waived/injured designation Wednesday, Aug. 20. Pead will revert back to the roster if he clears waivers.

Footballguys view: Pead was a second-round pick just a few years ago. If he clears waivers, he'll stay with the Rams organization and potentially play a small role in the future, but his dynasty light is just about out.

Rams | Brian Quick stepping up    Tue Aug 19, 12:37 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick is stepping up his game heading into the 2014 season, and earning praise from his coaches. "He knows he's got to pick it up," wide receivers coach Ray Sherman said. "He knows that. And that's the thing with young receivers -- some guys come along faster than others. We knew this was gonna be a big year for him, and he's really shown that he's ready to accept that challenge."

Footballguys view: Quick might be a better candidate to break out in the Rams receiver corps than perennial tease Kenny Britt, but the bottom line is that neither is a good bet to break out.

Rams | Tre Mason struggling with pass protection    Mon Aug 18, 01:20 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason still has to work on becoming a better pass blocker after he allowed two sacks in the second preseason game, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. 'Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest challenges for the position,' Fisher said. 'To learn how to play without the football. Guys have run skills, can carry the ball and run, and do those kind of things. But it's playing without the football. It's protection. Tre needs to keep working on it.'

Footballguys view: He's not going to get much playing time if he can't protect the passer. Fantasy owners need to watch his progress closely here. Zac Stacy will continue to be the featured back for the Rams in 2014.

Rams | Chris Givens falls down depth chart    Mon Aug 18, 02:31 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens has been surpassed on the depth chart by WRs Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick, and Givens may be a bubble in terms of final roster cuts.

Footballguys view: As a rookie in 2012, Givens was a premiere deep target for the Rams and his career looked promising. Say it with me everybody--things change pretty quickly around here. It wouldn't shock us to see Givens released by the Rams if he doesn't start performing better in camp and the preseason.

Rams | Demetrius Rhaney to miss time    Mon Aug 18, 12:07 AM

Rams | Barrett Jones undergoes surgery    Mon Aug 18, 12:06 AM

St. Louis Rams C Barrett Jones (back) will miss the rest of the preseason and possibly some time during the regular season because of back surgery, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. 'Barrett is going to be weeks away,' Fisher said. 'Barrett has had some minor surgery on his back so he will not participate in the preseason. Beyond that, I don't know.'

Rams | Isaiah Pead out for season    Sun Aug 17, 06:00 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Isaiah Pead (knee) is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He'll undergo surgery this week.

Footballguys view: Pead's career has been in a tailspin pretty much from the moment he was drafted in the second round two years ago. He has failed to make a mark in a Rams backfield full of opportunity. He can be dropped in even the deepest of dynasty leagues.

Rams | Michael Sam records sack    Sun Aug 17, 03:05 AM

Rams | Fear Isaiah Pead tore ACL    Sat Aug 16, 07:26 PM

Updating earlier reports, St. Louis Rams RB Isaiah Pead (knee) is feared to have torn his left anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about the injury in the near future. Pead has been a disappointment since the Rams picked him up as a second-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft. If he's out, then the team could look at camp cuts or veteran free agents available to help fill out the RB position. It also creates a better opportunity for Chase Reynolds to make the final roster.

Rams | Kenny Britt nicked up    Sat Aug 16, 05:43 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt (shoulder) is on the sideline without his jersey or pads on Saturday, Aug. 16, with an ice pack wrapped around his left shoulder.

Footballguys view: It's always something with this guy. Britt is talented enough to be a top-10 receiver in the NFL, but injuries and inconsistencies have held him back as a pro. We'll know more about this injury in the near future.

Rams | Sam Bradford sharp in preseason debut    Sat Aug 16, 05:22 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford went 9-for-12 for 101 yards and a touchdown in his first preseason action of the season Saturday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: Great performance for Bradford on Saturday. He needs to stay healthy and start playing up to his potential, or the Rams are going to start looking elsewhere for a franchise quarterback.

Rams | Sam Bradford ready for contact    Sat Aug 16, 02:53 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) said it will be nice to get hit in his first game coming back after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last season. He said it will nice knowing that everything's fine after he's been hit for the first time. The St. Louis Rams play the Green Bay Packers Saturday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: This is it for Bradford and the Rams. He's in a make-or-break season in 2014. Bradford needs to stay healthy and prove that he was worth the number one overall pick in 2010. If he struggles this year, the Rams could move on to find a franchise quarterback somewhere else.

St. Louis Rams CB Janoris Jenkins (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Aug. 14, but he is questionable for the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16.
