49ers | Stevie Johnson not frustrated with role    Fri Oct 31, 02:18 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson, who is behind WRs Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree and Brandon Lloyd on the depth chart, isn't frustrated by his role in the offense. Johnson has 25 catches for 315 yards and three touchdowns this year, and he had 1,000 yards receiving in three of his four years with the Buffalo Bills. "No frustration at all," Johnson said. "(The) only sense of frustration is being a competitor, you know, wanting to do more. But it ain't like there's a bunch of pansies in front of me.'

Footballguys view: Johnson (and Brandon Lloyd) are playing as well as they did in their heydays, which is great for Colin Kaepernick, but bad for Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, as the WR opportunity is now being split four ways in an offense that tends to skew run-heavy when the 49ers dictate the game to their opponents.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 29. He remains on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Footballguys view: The 49ers have a bit of time before they have to decide Lattimore's fate for the season. If healthy (enough), they can choose to activate him or they can shut him down for the rest of the year by putting him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

49ers | Marcus Lattimore to return Wednesday    Tue Oct 28, 01:03 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) will make his season debut on the practice field Wednesday, Oct. 29, and the team will have three weeks to evaluate whether to bring him off the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. It's unknown how Lattimore will factor into the running back mix if he returns.

Footballguys view: We've got out fingers crossed. Lattimore is an incredibly gifted runner when healthy. He's been through two devastating knee injuries suffered in college at South Carolina, and he may never be the same back. Dynasty owners are waiting with bated breath here.

49ers | Stevie Johnson very productive    Fri Oct 24, 02:39 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson has played only 20 percent of the snaps in the last month, but he's been the team's most effective receiver in that time. WR Brandon Lloyd has played 40 percent of the offensive snaps, but QB Colin Kaepernick has a passer rating of 127.8 on passes to Johnson and just 87.8 to Lloyd.

Footballguys view: Both of them are capping the Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree's weekly value without creating much of their own. It is a help for Colin Kaepernick's value as a passer.

49ers | Marcus Lattimore's return around the corner    Wed Oct 22, 01:20 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) will be cleared to practice from the Non-Football Injury list following the team's Week 8 bye. The team plans to activate him to their 53-man roster for the first time in his career. Lattimore has been working his way back from a gruesome right knee injury while in college in October of 2012. He is now weighing 220 pounds after reporting to training camp at 225 pounds, and he thinks he has added quickness.

Footballguys view: Dynasty alert! We know that Lattimore has star upside if he can ever come back to full strength after two devastating knee injuries in college at South Carolina. It will be interesting to see if he can get a few carries this year behind Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde.

49ers | Patrick Willis not likely for Week 7    Tue Oct 14, 06:33 PM

Footballguys view: The 49ers defense is really banged up heading into a game on the road against Peyton Manning. Rookie third-round pick Chris Borland would start if Willis misses the game in Week 7. Borland performed well against Austin Davis, but playing against Manning and the Broncos will be much tougher.
