Packers | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix draws praise    Fri Aug 1, 12:42 PM

Green Bay Packers FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix drew praise from an undisclosed source, being called 'the real deal,' according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche. The source credited Clinton-Dix for his range and willingness to make plays in run support.

Chiefs | Eric Berry sitting    Fri Aug 1, 09:29 AM

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (ankle) is out of practice Friday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys view: It doesn't sound like Berry's injury is serious, but the Chiefs have left themselves very thin in the secondary and can not afford to be without him for any amount of time. If the Chiefs have trouble defending the pass this year, Alex Smith and more importantly, Dwayne Bowe could see an increase in passing volume and downfield targets.

Bears | Danny McCray worked with starters    Fri Aug 1, 01:47 AM

Chicago Bears SS Danny McCray worked with the first-string defense Wednesday, July 30, ahead of rookie SS Brock Vereen. Bears head coach Marc Trestman warned not to read into the situation, saying he wanted to see how McCray, a special teams standout, would fit in with the starters. 'In terms of covering and in terms of the run game, his effort level has been very high,' Trestman said. 'He's a highly intelligent player. He has played consistently and continued to ascend over the last few days.'

Oakland Raiders WR Juron Criner (hamstring), LB Kaluka Maiava (hamstring), LB Marshall McFadden (hamstring) and FS Usama Young (quadriceps) worked with trainers on the side before practice Thursday, July 31.

Footballguys view: Criner has good talent, but he struggles to stay healthy. Fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues aren't hanging onto much if Criner is on the roster.

Chiefs | Eric Berry injury update    Thu Jul 31, 12:18 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (ankle) left practice Thursday, July 31, with an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: All of Kansas City is holding it's breath, which means if you are in Kansas City, go steal people's BBQ since they will be turning blue and passing out before we get a straight answer on the injury. The safety position is a bit thin in KC, so they had better hope this is nothing serious.

Jets | Calvin Pryor in no contact jersey    Thu Jul 31, 11:20 AM

New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) is wearing a no contact jersey during practice Thursday, July 31.

Footballguys view: They'll be cautious with him as they can't afford to risk their physical, big-hitting safety with another concussion in camp. He'll see some action in preseason games but we may not see full-Pryor until the regular season.

Jets | Calvin Pryor doing individual drills    Thu Jul 31, 10:40 AM

New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) is doing individual drills in practice Thursday, July 31.

Footballguys view: The Jets have to be happy to see the guy back and delivering concussion rather than getting them. On the other hand, as his game is predicated by a high level of physicality, getting concussions has to be a concern for Pryor, though it wasn't an issue in college.

Chiefs | Eric Berry carted off    Thu Jul 31, 10:30 AM

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (leg, foot) was carted off at practice Thursday, July 31, with a right leg or foot injury. SS Jerron McMillian has taken his place.

Footballguys view: We got some trouble (oh yes we do) right here in Kansas City. There's not a ton of depth behind him - or rather not a lot of great depth behind him - so hopefully this isn't a big injury.

Packers | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix working with ones    Thu Jul 31, 09:34 AM

Green Bay Packers FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is working with the first-team defense at strong safety beside FS Micah Hyde Thursday, July 31.

Footballguys view: As expected. Clinton-Dix brings a tough, physical style of play and some playmaking range to a safety position that lacked both last season. He'll be given every chance to win the job and should make a huge difference in this secondary.

Browns | Sign Jim Leonhard    Wed Jul 30, 05:50 PM

The Cleveland Browns signed SS Jim Leonhard (Bills) Wednesday, July 30. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring), WR David Nelson (groin) and SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Pryor's recovery is the one to watch here. He plays with a hard-hitting style and if concussions become an issue, it could cost him a lot of games, or even shorten his career.

Jets | Calvin Pryor sits, Jace Amaro limited    Tue Jul 29, 04:39 PM

New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) did not practice and TE Jace Amaro (knee) was limited Tuesday, July 29. Head coach Rex Ryan said Pryor is progressing, however.

Footballguys view: The team will be careful with both rookies here. Pryor is a big-hitter who can be an enforcer near the line of scrimmage. Amaro is a raw-but-athletic move tight end who could develop into a nice weapon for the Jets offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers S Mark Barron (knee) said he's not 100 percent after arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee in January.

Footballguys view: Barron may not be close to 100 percent until January of 2015. He's a hard-hitting safety with a nose for the ball. The plan is to have him as near full strength as possible for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: This after Saints coach Sean Payton said he expected Byrd to be cleared "sooner" than "later." Still, the hope was Byrd would be ready by camp - it wasn't an expectation. So while it feels like a setback, it isn't. He should be back before Week 1.
