Jets | Jamaal Adams 'the real deal'    Sun Jun 18, 11:17 AM

New York Jets first-round S Jamal Adams had the most impressive spring of any Jets' rookie since Sheldon Richardson in 2013, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello, who added the No. 6 overall pick will be a Day 1 starter and should have an immediate impact on the defense.

Footballguys view: The Jets don't do everything right (see quarterback, etc) but man alive do they have an exciting young secondary building with Adams as a key cornerstone. Adams will team up with fellow rookie FS Marcus Maye (second round, Florida) to provide the Jets with a physical, athletic and aggressive safety duo. The rest of the team needs plenty of work, but Adams and Maye are a great combination for the Jets to build from.

Jaguars | Three Jags DBs uncertain for start of camp    Sat Jun 17, 04:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone would not say if he believes CB Aaron Colvin (undisclosed), FS Tashaun Gipson (undisclosed) and Barry Church (back) will be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have a revamped secondary they'll debut in 2017, but there are some injury concerns already. Not only are these three banged up, second-year star Jalen Ramsey (core) is currently recovering from surgery and his availability for the start of training camp is unknown.

Colts | Clayton Geathers likely to miss start of camp    Sat Jun 17, 03:59 PM

Indianapolis Colts S Clayton Geathers (neck) likely will not be ready for the start of training camp because he is recovering from offseason neck surgery and may even miss the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are nothing nice, and they are tricky to come back from. Geathers was a playmaker for the Colts against the run last year, and his presence will be missed if he sits for a time during the regular season. T.J. Green and Malik Hooker might open the season as the Colts starting safeties.

Patriots | Patrick Chung can earn bigger salary    Sat Jun 17, 02:54 PM

New England Patriots SS Patrick Chung will have a chance to earn an extra $800,000 in incentives this upcoming season, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Earlier this year, the Patriots signed Chung to a one-year, $5.7 million extension through 2018. That deal already included $900K in incentives. Chung is a big part of what the Patriots want to do on defense, and hitting those incentives may not be a problem for the veteran safety.

Jets | Marcus Maye impressive at workouts    Sun Jun 11, 07:30 PM

New York Jets S Marcus Maye has impressed the organization with his ability to pick up the defensive scheme and limit the mental mistakes during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: The Jets reshaped the back end of their defense with the selection of Maye in round two and SS Jamal Adams in round one of the 2017 NFL draft. These two will be the vanguard for the Jets as they work towards rebuilding their franchise. Maye is a player who can roam as he's incredibly instinctive. He can also play in the box as Maye is known as a physical player.

Vikings | Harrison Smith healed    Sun Jun 4, 04:33 PM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings FS Harrison Smith (ankle) said his surgically repaired ankle is healed and is no longer an issue.

Footballguys view: Smith is a key piece of the Vikings defense, but he needs to stay on the field more after missing time in each of the last two years. Even though he says the ankle is not an issue the team will ease him in during OTAs, but it sounds like Smith should be good to go for training camp.

Giants | Darian Thompson able to do more    Sat Jun 3, 03:17 PM

New York Giants FS Darian Thompson (foot) has been more involved in workouts as the offseason has gone on. He moved well during practice Friday, June 2, and showed flashes of ability.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of Boise State in 2016, Thompson made it through two games before a Lisfranc injury that required surgery ended his rookie year. Thompson has a nose for the ball and can snare passes when tested. Having him back healthy only makes a strong secondary that much stronger.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Seahawks as Thomas is one of the best safeties in the league when healthy. Thomas was limited during practice Friday, June 2, but has done a lot during offseason workouts. We could see him continue to be limited during training camp with an eye on having him start in Week 1 of the regular season.

Vikings | Harrison Smith not limited    Fri Jun 2, 09:30 AM

Minnesota Vikings FS Harrison Smith (ankle) said he's doing all the work in organized team activities four months after ankle surgery.

Footballguys view: Smith got cleanup surgery after the season and the team will ease him back into action until training camp. He's a quality player when healthy, but was even able to make plays for the Vikings last year playing banged up. Smith hasn't played a full 16-game season over the last two years due to nagging injuries.

New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor is part of a trade Thursday, June 1, to the Cleveland Browns for an undisclosed package, according to sources.

Footballguys view: They finally got rid of Pryor, who has been something of a disappointment but who fit better in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' defense than what the Jets ran. New York gets linebacker Demario Davis, a former Jet who signed with Cleveland last offseason.

Broncos | T.J. Ward could receive extension    Fri May 26, 05:31 PM

Denver Broncos FS T.J. Ward has had preliminary talks with the Broncos about a contract extension.

Footballguys view: The Broncos already locked up FS Darian Stewart to a contract extension, but many felt Ward would play out 2017 and leave in free agency. The team drafted both Justin Simmons and Will Parks last year at safety, and both players have intriguing upside. If Ward takes a hometown discount (see Chris Harris, Derek Wolfe) then perhaps he could stay in Denver beyond 2017.
