Patriots | Bryan Stork hopes to play in Super Bowl    Tue Jan 27, 11:25 PM

New England Patriots C Bryan Stork (knee) said Tuesday, Jan. 27, that he is hopeful of being ready to play in Super Bowl XLIX Sunday, Feb. 1, against the Seattle Seahawks. He said he is working with athletic trainers in hopes of playing.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount to have big role?    Tue Jan 27, 08:00 PM

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount should be a factor in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Feb. 1, in the opinion of Boston Herald writer Karen Guregian. Despite Seattle's highly ranked run defense, they lost games earlier this season to both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys, who used run-heavy game plans. The Green Bay Packers also had early success on the ground against the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. The Packers opened up holes by overloading lanes with pulling linemen, which is something the Patriots like to do with their guards and tackles. If the Patriots stay away from the run, Seattle's linebackers will drop back in zone coverage, making it tougher on the Patriots' passing game.

Patriots | Tom Brady said he feels perfect    Tue Jan 27, 07:13 PM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has publicly stated he'd like to play well into his 40s and feels perfect after playing his 15th season, but his father Tom Brady Sr. believes it won't end well with the Patriots. The younger Brady is under contract through 2017, although he'll turn 40 years old prior to that season. Brady has publicly said he plans on playing until he's 43 or 44. The 37-year-old quarterback is scheduled to make $12 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. His father thinks his son's determination to keep playing won't go over well with the Patriots' brass. "It will end badly,' Brady Sr. told New York Times Magazine. 'It does end badly. And I know that because I know what Tommy wants to do. He wants to play 'til he's 70. ... It's a cold business. And for as much as you want it to be familial, it isn't.'

Footballguys view: Brady goes to many lengths to stay in the best shape he possibly can. Things can change quickly in the NFL, but the way it looks now we could see Brady play at least a couple of more seasons.

Patriots | Seattle looking to shut down Gronk    Tue Jan 27, 12:17 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is an offensive weapon that the Seattle Seahawks are focused on shutting down during the Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll thinks his team matches up well against the All-Pro tight end, though, as LBs K.J. Wright and Bruce Irvin are 'pretty tall and long' and SS Kam Chancellor is 'about as big a strong safety as you can find.' The Seahawks will be focused on not allowing Gronkowski and QB Tom Brady to take over the game.

Footballguys view: Yeah, good luck with that. The Seattle defense has a weak spot in the middle, and that's Gronkowski's territory. They'll have to commit at least two defenders to slowing down the superstar tight end....and even that may not prevent him from having a big game. Gronkowksi is a key player to watch on Super Sunday.

Patriots | Tom Brady clutch in last quarter of postseason    Mon Jan 26, 04:36 PM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has led eight playoff game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime in his career, more than any other player.

Footballguys view: Tom Brady is clutch--period. His play has gotten him back to the sixth Super Bowl of his career. Brady could win his fourth Super Bowl title on Sunday, joining Terry Bradshaw (Steelers) and Joe Montana (49ers) as the only starting quarterbacks with as many victories in the big game.

Patriots | Tom Brady improved out of pocket    Sat Jan 24, 10:48 PM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 12 of his 24 pass attempts on scramble plays outside of the pocket this year for 198 yards and two scores. Last year, he was 0-of-4 on similar plays.

Footballguys view: With the Patriots strong ground game, it's wise to move Brady around from time to time. New England has benefited from the play-action passing their rushing attack sets up.

Patriots | Seattle to be physical with Gronk?    Thu Jan 22, 05:39 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is often a tough matchup for opposing defenses, but Seattle Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane said he doesn't think Gronkowski is 'that good.' 'He's OK. He does have a big body. But from what I've seen on tape, he doesn't like you putting your hands on him. So if we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won't catch that many balls,' Lane said. Gronkowski caught 82 passes for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Lane could be lined up often against Gronkowski in the slot in the Super Bowl.

Footballguys view: Gronk smash is more than just a saying, it's Gronkowski's mindset. Good luck with Seattle trying physical coverage against him. The weakness for the Seahawks defense is up the middle, and we think it will be difficult for them to slow Gronkowski down.

Patriots | Tom Brady could come under fire    Thu Jan 22, 10:05 AM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady is now scheduled to speak to the media Thursday, Jan. 22, and he could come under fire due to the report of deflated footballs in the AFC Championship game. Head coach Bill Belichick denied any involvement in the issue, and Brady will likely have to answer questions on the situation.

Footballguys view: Yes, Ballghazi or Deflategate or 'this week's ridiculous nonsense' could very well make Brady look bad but then again, given that Belichick gleefully threw him under the bus, people might feel pity on him. We cannot imagine him suspended or penalized in a major way but this story has already gone off the rails so it's truly anyone's guess.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount has outstanding performance    Mon Jan 19, 12:37 PM

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in the team's win over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 18. 'He makes contact on every play and seems to enjoy it. He's like a boxer throwing body punches. Eventually, he wears guys down and starts breaking those big runs,' OG Ryan Wendell said. Blount played 42 offensive snaps in the game, passing his previous season high of 30. He also ran for 69 yards after contact against the Colts, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

Footballguys view: Blount was an absolute battering ram against the Colts. His hard-charging style will come in handy when the Patriots try to soften up the Seahawks defense in the Super Bowl.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots OT Marcus Cannon replaced OG Josh Kline on the first quarter scoring drive in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 18, against the Indianapolis Colts.   Patriots | Rob Gronkowski plays well against Colts    Sat Jan 17, 06:38 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has 17 catches for 297 yards and one touchdown in four career games against the Indianapolis Colts. He has gained 71 yards after contact as well.

Footballguys view: Gronkowski plays well against everyone. He's nearly impossible to match up with in single coverage, so expect the Colts to put at least two defenders on the talented tight end. Even bracketing him with coverage may not be enough to slow him down...forget about shutting him down.
