Quick fantasy outlook: Jerod Mayo represented a shift in philosophy for the Patriots as they had typically relied on veterans at linebacker rather than high draft picks. He was taken with the 10th overall pick in 2008 though and posted 100 solo tackles as a rookie. His production has been up and down over his five-year career, but Mayo remains a focal point of the Patriots defense. With a move to a more traditional 4-3 base defense last year, Mayo shifted from MLB to WLB and that helped him get back to the top-10 numbers we had expected. He's now free to chase down the ball all over the field, and it doesn't hurt that the statkeepers in New England tend to hand out a lot of assists. In any event, he's an elite everydown linebacker playing in his prime and should probably be considered a lower end LB1 in most scoring systems.
