New Orleans Saints LBs Manti Te'o and Stephone Anthony may compete for one roster spot during training camp if all of the linebackers stay healthy during the preseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Mike Triplett.

Footballguys view: Both were highly drafted and once considered future stars, but Te'o and Anthony are now struggling just to stay on a roster. It might be time to move on in dynasty IDP leagues.

Rams | Three Rams could receive extensions    Mon Jul 17, 08:45 PM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald, LB Alec Ogletree and CB Lamarcus Joyner are players that the Rams are interested in signing to contract extensions.

Footballguys view: Donald skipped voluntary work this offseason but he did show up for mandatory minicamp. He was non-committal when asked about a potential holdout in training camp. A first-round pick in 2014, Donald is under the team's control through the 2018 season.

Colts | Indy not expected to sign Zachary Orr    Sun Jul 16, 02:15 PM

Free-agent LB Zachary Orr (Ravens) that with the Indianapolis Colts two weeks ago, but it appears the team is not interested in signing him at this time, according to Kevin Bowen of colts.com.

Footballguys view: Orr was contemplating (and pretty much did) retirement earlier this year due to a neck injury. He got a second opinion about a month ago that indicated he could resume his playing career. Orr's agent says 15 teams expressed interest but so far nobody has made an offer to the veteran linebacker.

Bills | Ramon Humber may not have size to start    Wed Jul 12, 02:26 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Ramon Humber appears to be an unlikely candidate for one of the starting outside linebacker jobs because his size could make him a target for opponent's rushing attacks, in the opinion of BuffaloBills.com's Canio Marasco. He could become a nickel linebacker because he showed good coverage skills in the passing game.

Bills | Gerald Hodges worked on strong side     Wed Jul 12, 02:21 PM

Buffalo Bills LB Gerald Hodges lined up mostly at strongside linebacker during offseason workouts and has a chance to win one of the starting outside linebacker jobs during training camp.

Bills | Reggie Ragland could shift outside    Tue Jul 11, 09:41 AM

Buffalo Bills LB Reggie Ragland could shift to outside linebacker if LB Preston Brown wins the starting middle linebacker job.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick out of Alabama in 2016, Ragland was lost for his entire rookie season due to a knee injury. The Bills saw Ragland as a great option as an inside hammer in Rex Ryan's 3-4 defense, but now he's a bit of an odd fit in the 4-3 scheme they're running this year. Ragland had speed concerns that could be exposed in coverage, so he's just a two-down thumper no matter where he lines up in 2017.

Jets | Demario Davis to take over for David Harris?    Sun Jul 9, 02:30 PM

New York Jets LB Demario Davis is considered a leading candidate to replace David Harris, who signed with the New England Patriots this offseason, at inside linebacker in 2017, according to NJ.com's Darryl Slater.

Footballguys view: The Jets might have traded for Davis as a plan for replacing Harris, at least for this year. His IDP fantasy outlook is enhanced by the amount of time the Jets defense is going to spend on the field as a losing team, but he is clearly behind Darron Lee in the tackle pecking order with the Jets also fielding two very good tackling safeties from the first two rounds of this year's draft in Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye.

Panthers | Luke Kuechly not changing style    Sat Jul 8, 02:50 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly said he will not change his playing style even though he struggled with concussions last season.

Footballguys view: Kuechly had a scary reaction to his latest concussion, one that caused concern among some players. Changing his style of play could make him more likely to get hurt and probably isn't a solution, but that Kuechly feels the need to address this is a sign that he is getting into a more precarious area of head injuries affecting the longevity of his career.

Chiefs | Josh Mauga re-signs with Chiefs    Thu Jul 6, 04:52 PM

Free-agent LB Josh Mauga (Chiefs) re-signed to an undisclosed deal with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, July 6, according to Mauga's agent.

Footballguys view: Mauga missed all of 2016 with a torn labrum and has been a shaky piece of bench depth overall for both the Chiefs and his previous team, the Jets. We don't expect much of an impact from a fantasy standpoint either.

Lions | Tahir Whitehead should start    Mon Jul 3, 07:12 PM

Detroit Lions LB Tahir Whitehead will be the starting weakside linebacker this season but could lose snaps to LBs Paul Worrilow and Jalen Reeves-Maybin in certain defensive packages.

Footballguys view: Whitehead was a big fantasy factor in IDP leagues while DeAndre Levy was in and out of the lineup (mostly out of), but first-round pick Jarrad Davis should be a three-down linebacker and reduce the value of Whitehead as he moves over to the weak side.

Colts | Indy not sold on Zach Orr yet    Sat Jul 1, 03:18 PM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr's (Ravens) meeting with the Indianapolis Colts Friday, June 30, was used as an information-gathering effort for the Colts so the team could see if Orr can play again despite his neck injury, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Colts have not reached a comfort level which would allow them to sign Orr at this time. Neck injuries are tricky to come back from and complicated to deal with. Any team interested in Orr (reportedly around half the league) will have to feel his neck problem is manageable.

Titans | Tennessee not pursuing Zach Orr    Fri Jun 30, 08:20 PM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) is not receiving interest from the Tennessee Titans.

Colts | Zach Orr visiting Colts    Fri Jun 30, 10:51 AM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) is visiting the Indianapolis Colts Friday, June 30.

Footballguys view: The Colts are one of three teams to already have a visit scheduled with Orr (Jets, Lions). Orr prematurely retired back in January due to a congenital neck problem.   Lions | Zach Orr still in Detroit    Fri Jun 30, 08:25 AM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) will continue to meet with the Detroit Lions Friday, June 30, which includes bloodwork. Doctors are pleased and overtly positive, according to his agent, Rob Sheets.

Footballguys view: Any team that adds Orr is going to have to be comfortable with his physical condition. Orr prematurely retired back in January due to a congenital neck problem. After getting a second opinion, Orr learned the injury was not career threatening. Reports indicate there are 15 teams who have shown interest in Orr.

Jets | Zach Orr to visit Jets    Fri Jun 30, 02:40 AM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) will visit the New York Jets Saturday, July 1, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: The Jets got rid of David Harris earlier this year, so they have a spot at the linebacker position. Orr prematurely retired back in January due to a congenital neck problem. After getting a second opinion, Orr learned the injury was not career threatening. Reports indicate there are 15 teams who have shown interest in Orr.

NFL | Zach Orr will have to manage neck issue    Thu Jun 29, 09:39 AM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (neck) has been told by doctors that the strength of the tendons and ligaments should protect his C1 vertebra, which is only 80 percent formed. He has received the green light to play, but he'll have to manage his congenital neck issue.

Footballguys view: Player safety is on the front burner more than ever in the NFL, so any team interested in Orr must have a plan for managing this injury. Neck problems are tricky and can be quite problematic. Orr's agent says he's now been contacted by 15 teams in the NFL, so there's no doubt the league is interested in the free agent linebacker. His price tag will likely be incentive laden to cover the team's backside in case the neck becomes problematic again.

Raiders | Oakland not looking at Zach Orr yet    Wed Jun 28, 05:25 PM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) has not received any interest from the Oakland Raiders at this point, according to a source.

Lions | Zach Orr to visit Lions    Wed Jun 28, 11:08 AM

Free-agent LB Zach Orr (Ravens) will visit the Detroit Lions Thursday, June 29.

Footballguys view: That didn't take long. Orr was supposedly retired back in January after a neck problem caused him to miss the final game of 2016 with the Ravens and the injury seemed dire. He's got a new opinion from doctors about the injury, and now Baltimore's leading tackler from a year ago can sign anywhere. Reports indicate as many as eight teams have reached out to Orr so far.

NFL | Zach Orr contemplating a comeback    Wed Jun 28, 08:06 AM

Former Baltimore Ravens LB Zach Orr is exploring an NFL comeback, and he's an unrestricted free agent.

Footballguys view: Orr said he was going to call it a career back in January due to neck problems. The leading tackler for the Ravens in 2016, the two sides were talking about a contract extension before he retired. They didn't tender him as a restricted free agent and now Orr can sign with any team. Doctors have given Orr a new opinion on the neck/spine injury, but he'll have to pass a physical before signing anywhere.

Patriots | David Harris likely to make team    Fri Jun 23, 10:12 AM

New England Patriots LB David Harris is a near lock to make the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: With $1.25 million in guaranteed money, Harris is a near lock for the final roster. Not a shock given his veteran experience and ability to still be a two-down run-stuffer. Harris should play on early downs, leaving LB Shea McLellin for sub-package situations.

Patriots | Shea McClellin likely in passing-down role    Fri Jun 23, 10:11 AM

New England Patriots LB Shea McClellin is likely to be used in a 'passing-game' role to utilize his coverage skills.

Footballguys view: That's why the team added David Harris after the Jets released him. Harris is not a player you want in on passing downs, but he's a better run-defender than McClellin. The combination should work out nicely for the Patriots.

Cardinals | Haason Reddick should start right away    Thu Jun 22, 03:31 PM

Arizona Cardinals rookie LB Haason Reddick is expected to start immediately over injured LB Deone Bucannon (ankle), according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.

Footballguys view: Reddick can start right away and he can make an instant impact. In college at Temple, Reddick constantly made plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage. He's a bit undersized at 6'1" 237 pounds but he has great athleticism, burst and a knack for pressuring the quarterback.

Free-agent LB David Harris (Jets) agreed to a two-year deal with the New England Patriots Wednesday, June 21, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Harris is a two-down thumper who can stuff the run. He's not the same player he used to be, but Harris can still be an effective pro. Harris will compete for playing time in a crowded linebacker group behind Donta Hightower.

Miami Dolphins LB Lawrence Timmons has been impressive during offseason workouts and has shown good speed during practice, according to QB Matt Moore.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins gave Timmons a two-year, $12 million contract with $11 million guaranteed. They need him to boost their linebacking corps in 2017. Miami was 30th against the run last year, and Timmons should be able to improve that area of their defense.

Cowboys | Daryl Washington hopes to join Cowboys    Wed Jun 7, 02:25 PM

Free-agent LB Daryl Washington (Cardinals) said he would like to sign with the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Washington has been out of the league for three years, but he's been reinstated by the NFL and is ready to go. The Cowboys need help on the defensive side of the ball, and Washington was an effective starter (and a Pro Bowl player) -- although it was years ago -- for the Cardinals. Dallas has no issue taking chances on players with baggage.
