Bengals | Josh Johnson released    Tue Aug 25, 02:43 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Josh Johnson was released Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Johnson has bounced around the league, but he's never stopped in one place for that long. He's athletic, but he lacks accuracy as a passer. His NFL career might be over, but some think he could head up to Canada to keep playing.

Bengals | Andy Dalton mistake-prone in loss    Mon Aug 24, 11:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton completed six of his 13 pass attempts for 46 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the preseason game Monday, Aug. 24, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Footballguys view: That's not a good day for Dalton. Fantasy owners are looking at him as a QB3 this season, and that sounds about right.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu entered practice Wednesday, Aug. 19, in the slot in a three-wide formation. It was the first time he worked in the formation during camp. WRs A.J. Green and Marvin Jones were the starters.

Bengals | Marvin Jones practices in pads    Thu Aug 13, 12:10 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) was able to take part in his first practice in pads Wednesday, Aug. 12. He was running with the first team offense. 'Feel good opening up really for the first time since I've been back in this thing,' Jones said.

Footballguys view: Jones didn't play at all last year due to a severe ankle injury. Getting him back will boost the Bengals passing game. Fantasy owners will remember that Jones caught 10 TDs in 2013, and he finished that year as the 21st-best fantasy wide receiver. We like him as a WR5 with upside.

Bengals | Rex Burkhead to have big role    Wed Aug 12, 07:54 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Rex Burkhead will play a big role in the team's offense in 2015. Burkhead will be an excellent option as a slot receiver, as he creates tough matchups against opposing linebackers.

  Bengals | A.J. McCarron day-to-day    Wed Aug 12, 12:55 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB A.J. McCarron (undisclosed) said he is considered day-to-day because of an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: McCarron said his current injury has nothing to do with the shoulder injury he had last season. The second-year quarterback is being tracked by fantasy owners in dynasty leagues. We're not sold on his future upside, but McCarron hasn't had much of a chance to show what he can do as a pro yet.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard still a solid option    Tue Aug 11, 07:17 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard finished as the sixteenth best running back in point-per-reception leagues last year, despite RB Jeremy Hill starting eight games.

Footballguys view: Bernard is no slouch, but he's not built to carry a starter's workload. Hill is the bellcow for this team, and Bernard should get plenty of work as a change-of-pace back. Right now, Hill is going off the board at RB10 (2.06) while Bernard is going off the board at RB26 (6.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | A.J. McCarron improving    Sun Aug 9, 08:31 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB A.J. McCarron led a pair of scoring drives with the first-team offense during a scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 8. 'I thought he was even better than last night,' offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said. 'Every time he completed a ball his confidence skyrocketed. It's a good opportunity for him to continue to grow.'

Footballguys view: We're not sold on McCarron, but in dynasty leagues he's certainly worth keeping an eye on. At the end of the day, McCarron may be only a backup-caliber quarterback in the pros. We're excited to see if McCarron can continue to improve his game.

Bengals | Marvin Jones practices    Sat Aug 8, 03:51 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) returned to practice Saturday, Aug. 8. Jones had been sitting because of a sore right hamstring.

Footballguys view: Jones missed all of last year due to an ankle injury, and the team should get a real boost with him back on the football field. We like him as a WR5/WR6 with upside for fantasy owners. Jones is a late-round pick who could end up in your lineup as a bye-week or injury filler. In 2013, Jones as the 21st-best fantasy receiver, largely due to his 10 touchdown catches.

Bengals | Marvin Jones has hamstring issue    Fri Aug 7, 10:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) said Friday, Aug. 7, that he has missed the last four days of practice because of soreness in his right hamstring.

Footballguys view: The Bengals need to be cautious with Jones because while Mohamed Sanu has upside, he had a lot of issues hauling the ball in last season. They'd prefer Jones across from AJ Green. Until we know Jones is healthy, he's no better than a WR5, so we'll be watching closely because he could be so much more.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill likely to see majority reps    Tue Aug 4, 01:52 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill is likely to see a majority of the reps in the backfield over RB Giovani Bernard, according to beat writer Paul Dehner Jr.

Footballguys view: We'll see Hill as the team's lead back this season after he started last year as a backup. He can bang it between the tackles to soften up an opponent, but Hill can also break off big runs. We like him as a low-end RB1 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB11 (2.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard to return punts?    Tue Aug 4, 01:51 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard might see an expanded role as a punt returner this season. He returned two punts for touchdowns in college, and was working as a returning the preseason in his rookie season before his running back role expanded.

Footballguys view: Bernard is a talented back, and there's ways to use him other than a runner or receiver. If he sees fewer snaps playing alongside RB Jeremy Hill it might open up an opportunity for Bernard on special teams.

Bengals | Michael Johnson update    Mon Aug 3, 02:28 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals DE Michael Johnson (knee) will be out four weeks with a grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Bengals defense here. By missing a month, Johnson will have to be eased back in with the regular season right around the corner. With Johnson out, Margus Hunt and Will Clarke will get a chance to showcase what they've got.

Bengals | Michael Johnson injures knee    Sun Aug 2, 07:23 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Michael Johnson (knee) suffered an apparent medial collateral ligament sprain Sunday, Aug. 2.

Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga (hamstring) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list Thursday, July 30.

Bengals | Cobi Hamilton waived    Thu Jul 30, 06:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Cobi Hamilton was waived Thursday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Hamilton made some plays in college at Arkansas, but he's not made an impact with the Bengals. We can't see him sticking on a roster even if some other team picks him up.

Bengals | Desmond Lawrence signs    Thu Jul 30, 06:04 PM

Free-agent WR Desmond Lawrence (Lions) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, July 30.

Bengals | Greg Little signs    Thu Jul 30, 05:19 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Little (Bengals) signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, July 30. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Little comes back to the Bengals to give them wide receiver depth. He's no lock for the final roster.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert says he is healthy    Thu Jul 30, 03:14 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert said he is 100% healthy for the first time since the beginning of last offseason.

Footballguys view: Eifert has the upside to be a top-10 fantasy tight end. The Bengals are likely to use him as much as possible, and he could outperform his current ADP of TE16 (13.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Hope Vontaze Burfict can play in preseason    Wed Jul 29, 12:39 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (knee) is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list, but the team is hoping he can return to the field in time to play in the third preseason game so he can prepare for Week 1.

Footballguys view: That may be a bit optimistic as Burfict is trying to come back from microfracture surgery and neck problems. Burfict may not be ready at the start of the regular season, and he could end up on the PUP list at that time. That would force him to miss the first six weeks of the regular season.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi placed on NFI    Tue Jul 28, 05:47 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi (knee) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Ogbuehi was selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft even though he was recovering from a knee injury he suffered last year at Texas A&M. There's a chance he supplants Andrew Whitworth as the team's left tackle when healthy.

Bengals | James Wright waived    Tue Jul 28, 05:32 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR James Wright (knee) was waived with an injured designation Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Reports indicate that Wright is facing season-ending knee surgery. He tore his PCL late last year, but the injury went undisclosed.

Bengals | Cincy discussing new deal with A.J. Green    Sun Jul 26, 10:17 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green is talking with the Bengals about a possible contract extension, according to sources. The team sees signing Green to an extension as their top priority.

Footballguys view: Green (just like Julio Jones) should get a contract similar to what both Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant received earlier this year. The Bengals need an explosive playmaker like Green on offense, and we can't imagine them letting him slip away on the open market.

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth could lose job    Thu Jul 23, 09:47 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andrew Whitworth could lose his starting job at some point this season if OT Cedric Ogbuehi (knee) returns to the field by midseason as expected.

Footballguys view: Ogbuehi is a talented player, and that's why the Bengals picked him in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft even though he was injured. He's a technically sound player who can mirror rushers on the outside. Ogbuehi is not a mauler, but he's athletic enough to be a sticky blocker on the move.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert ready for breakout?     Wed Jul 22, 03:18 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert could be primed for a breakout season, in the opinion of Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have been waiting for Eifert to break out, and he's certainly a player fantasy owners should be watching. After missing most of last season, Eifert is looking to build off the numbers he had as a rookie in 2013. Right now, fantasy owners are picking up Eifert as a TE2 with TE1 upside. His current ADP is TE17 (13.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Marvin Jones feeling fine    Mon Jul 20, 10:07 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (foot) did not play in 2014 due to a foot injury that required surgery to remove bone chips. However, he said Monday, July 20, that the foot is a non-issue. 'We looked at it, got it fixed, and it's not there anymore,' Jones said. 'It was an unfortunate situation, but it's behind me.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners and Bengals fans are hoping that Jones can build off his 2013 season where he had over 700 receiving yards and caught 10 touchdowns. If healthy, Jones could outperform his current ADP of WR57 (13.03) in 12-team leagues.

Bengals | Jermaine Gresham not an option for Cincy    Sat Jul 18, 12:19 PM

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) likely will not re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.

Footballguys view: Gresham is currently on the open market, but there should be a few teams interested in the veteran tight end. He's currently recovering from back surgery he had earlier this year. Once cleared, we expect some team to give him a shot. The Saints have reportedly been looking into adding Gresham for months. Stay tuned.

Bengals | A.J. Green thanks Demaryius Thomas    Fri Jul 17, 09:36 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said during a press conference Friday, July 17, that Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green contacted him shortly after Thomas signed his new deal to thank him.

Footballguys view: In the near future, Green is going to get a contract similar to what Thomas (and Dez Bryant) received earlier this week. With Green looking at around $45 million guaranteed, it's worth a call to say "thanks" to Demaryius.

Bengals | A.J. Green will play without deal    Tue Jul 14, 04:18 PM

Updating a previous post, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green has decided to play the 2015 season without a new contract.

Footballguys view: Green is playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, and he's set to make just over $10 million in 2015. The Bengals could use the franchise tag on Green next offseason if they can't sign him to a new long-term deal.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill urged to embrace hype    Sat Jul 11, 09:18 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill has been told to embrace the hype surrounding him in 2015 by offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. 'To me, if a guy wants to be great, he's got to relish that,' Jackson said. 'He's got to want that and then go exceed it. That would be my challenge to (Hill). I expect him to exceed whatever the expectation is about him.'

Footballguys view: Hill is going to be an RB1 when the Bengals control a game, but he might not even be a low RB2 when they don't. He's going at a low RB1 price in the second round, which means taking him is a bet on the Bengals to have a good season unless you are overwhelming by Hill's talent.

Bengals | A.J. Green not concerned about contract    Thu Jul 9, 12:20 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green said he is not worried that he is entering the final year of his contract and is willing to play out the season. 'I don't get into all the 'I need a contract' stuff,'' Green said. 'I'm not here for money. I'm not broke. So I'm fine. I can wait until the end of the year to get a contract, but I know that time is coming.'

Footballguys view: Green might not have quite the production of his peers because of Andy Dalton, an offense that prefers to run if they control the game, and the return of Tyler Eifert and Marvin Jones. The Bengals have been very fiscally disciplined, but they also generally have retained and taken care of their best players. Green should get one of the top WR contracts in the league next year.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill wants to improve strength    Fri Jul 3, 07:54 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill said he wanted to build up the strength in his legs this offseason in hopes of improving his acceleration into the second level of opposing defenses. Hill said he believes he was tackled by the first defender too often last season.

Footballguys view: Hill was able to find his way through the line with strong lateral agility for such a big back and he could pull away if he got a lane. The Bengals have some key pieces of the passing game back this year, which could open up things even more for him. Hill will still split with Giovani Bernard and possibly not get feature back touches any time the Bengals don't control the game, so he's on the fringe of the RB1 tier in drafts.

Bengals | James Wright limited this offseason    Wed Jul 1, 03:53 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR James Wright (knee) was not part of team activities this offseason. Wright is expected to be the No. 4 wide receiver behind WRs A.J. Green, Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu.

Bengals | Marvin Jones is fully recovered    Wed Jun 24, 09:02 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) did not play in 2014 due to multiple foot and ankle issues, but he is healthy and was impressive in organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

Footballguys view: Jones is a deep threat who had last season blown up by injuries. The Bengals are very excited to have him back, and he should excel across from A.J. Green. He certainly can do more against single coverage than Mohamed Sanu. We see him as a WR5 or WR6 (about his current ADP) but he has the potential to produce at a higher level. In 2013, Jones finished the year as the 21st-best fantasy wide receiver.

Bengals | Mohamed Sanu in mix to start    Wed Jun 24, 09:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu is in the mix to start opposite WR A.J. Green, but with WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) healthy Sanu will have plenty of competition.

Footballguys view: Sanu had a lot of issues holding onto the ball last season (he has seven dropped passes last year, tied for third-most in 2014) and is going to have a hard time beating out Marvin Jone--if Jones is healthy. Right now, he's going undrafted in early drafts and we wouldn't take him as more than a late-round flier.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert back in business    Wed Jun 24, 09:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow, shoulder) had his 2014 season cut short by a dislocated elbow and shoulder injury, but he is back to 100 percent and was impressive during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

Footballguys view: Eifert has been fantastic in spring practices, and with Jermaine Gresham in the wind, will be a big part of this offense. We have him rated as a TE2, and his ADP is even lower right now, but if healthy he could have a very productive season, especially in two tight end leagues.

Bengals | A.J. McCarron expected to be No. 2    Wed Jun 24, 09:00 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB A.J. McCarron is expected to be the primary backup quarterback to QB Andy Dalton.

Footballguys view: McCarron has done well enough to make everyone else not named Dalton expendable--and maybe make Dalton nervous. That's a way down the road, at least this season, but it bodes well for McCarron that he has impressed this quickly after missing part of last season due to injury.

Bengals | Josh Johnson not in Cincy plans    Wed Jun 24, 08:59 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Josh Johnson is not expected to compete with QB A.J. McCarron for the backup job to starting QB Andy Dalton, and is viewed as just an extra arm in camp.

Footballguys view: Not surprisingly, Johnson continues to not live up to the potential many saw in him when he joined the league. This could be his final shot at a roster spot, as at this point he's pretty clearly unable to play at a pro level.

Bengals | Vontaze Burfict is a question mark    Wed Jun 24, 08:57 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (knee) is working his way back from microfracture surgery on his knee and is viewed as a question mark heading into training camp.

Footballguys view: Burfict exploded in 2013, but injuries took him out of 2014.The knee is a concern and starting off training camp on the PUP list would be concerning. If he's healthy, he should be a fantasy stud, but there seems to be real doubt as to whether he will be healthy.

Bengals | Keith Wenning signed    Wed Jun 24, 02:33 PM

Free-agent QB Keith Wenning (Ravens) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday, June 24. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Ball State product came into the league as a sixth-round pick for the Ravens in the 2014 NFL draft. He's got good anticipation and gets the ball out of his hand quickly. He'll be a camp arm for the Bengals, but he might do enough to stick around on the practice squad.
