Bengals | Joe Mixon has dropped weight    Mon Apr 16, 05:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon has decreased his weight to 225 pounds this offseason after weighing in at 238 pounds last offseason. The sophomore running back plans to lose five more pounds before the season begins.

Footballguys view: A lighter Mixon should help with his stamina and explosiveness. The team sees him as a no.1 running back and fantasy owners are hoping he can pay off on his RB1 potential this season. OC Bill Lazor has revamped the playbook this offseason, and he should feature Mixon in this new offense.

Bengals | Cincinnati meeting with Lamar Jackson    Mon Apr 16, 02:16 PM

Louisville QB Lamar Jackson is having a pre-draft visit with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 16.

Footballguys view: An interesting visit to be sure. Andy Dalton is the starting quarterback but after years of falling short, Dalton may not have much more time to prove he can get this team to the playoffs and win. Jackson plays like a right-handed Michael Vick, but he could probably use a year of grooming before taking over as a starter in the NFL.

Bengals | Andy Dalton excited to get new playbook    Thu Apr 12, 10:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton is looking forward to the new playbook that is being prepared by offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who has spent this offseason revamping the old one after joining the club early on last season. 'The sense I'm getting is there is going to be a lot of change and a lot of learning, which is a good thing,' Dalton said. 'I think it's good to challenge yourself and kind of refresh yourself on what you're doing. When you're hearing the same thing for seven straight years, it can be mundane and you already know it. Now it's new and fresh.'

Footballguys view: Dalton has been a consistent QB2 for fantasy owners each of the last four years. With Lazor calling plays we could see a slight bump for Dalton in 2018. The offense should continue to flow through Dalton's arm...and mostly to WR A.J. Green.

Bengals | Vontaze Burfict's suspension official    Thu Apr 12, 04:15 PM

Updating a previous report, the NFL has officially suspended Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Footballguys view: You have to think Burfict is about out of chances, but the NFL allows a lot of leeway for talented players. Is is his talent outweighed by his baggage? So far, it doesn't seem like it.

Bengals | John Ross ready to go    Fri Mar 30, 10:04 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross is 'all fixed up' after dealing with injuries to his shoulder and lower legs last year, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

Footballguys view: Ross set the 2017 Scouting Combine on fire with his 4.2 record-breaking, 40-yard dash. The Bengals selected him with the 9th-overall pick last year but Ross was only able to make an appearance in three games during his rookie season. He finished with one catch for 12 yards. Ross has jaw-dropping speed and needs to stay healthy to be a larger part of the Bengals offense in 2018 and beyond.

Bengals | CIN not looking to re-do Andy Dalton deal    Fri Mar 30, 10:34 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton is unlikely to receive an extension this year, according to vice president Troy Blackburn. Dalton is the 17th highest-paid quarterback, according to Spotrac.com. 'We didn't sign the (Dalton) deal because we thought it was a good deal. At the time it was an expensive deal. It was a heavy lift,' Blackburn said. 'We did it because Andy was a winning starting quarterback in the National Football League, he had demonstrated that.'

Footballguys view: Dalton signed a seven-year, $97 million contract in 2014, and due $13.9 million in 2018. That's actually quite the bargain considering how QB salaries have inflated since that time. The Bengals have Dalton as their starter, but don't be surprised if they start looking in the draft for a player to groom behind him as a potential starter in the future.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert contract details    Mon Mar 19, 12:18 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert signed a one-year deal with the Bengals worth $5.5 million.

Footballguys view: Eifert is a red zone threat and already has strong chemistry with QB Andy Dalton. The biggest problem with Eifert is his lack of durability. If healthy, Eifert can be a weapon for the Bengals and a fantasy factor in 2018.

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals QB Matt Barkley signed a two-year deal with the Bengals worth $3.35 million.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell sticking around?    Sun Mar 18, 09:52 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell had a $1 million roster bonus due Sunday, March 18.

Footballguys view: The Bengals may not use LaFell much in 2018, but it must've made sense for them to keep the veteran receiver around for depth. Behind superstar A.J. Green, the Bengals have some young receivers with upside like Tyler Boyd or John Ross. LaFell is veteran insurance and not much of a fantasy factor.

Bengals | Preston Brown headed to Cincinnati    Fri Mar 16, 12:05 PM

Free-agent LB Preston Brown (Bills) agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, March 16.

Footballguys view: Brown is part of the pipeline between these two teams that has included Cordy Glenn and AJ McCarron this offseason. He could be a starter while Vontaze Burfict is suspended for the first four games of the season and maybe even after he returned - assuming the team doesn't release Burfict.

Free-agent TE Tyler Eifert (Bengals) is re-signing to a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Eifert is a more than capable player and he's already got established chemistry with QB Andy Dalton. This one-year deal has to be of the 'prove it' variety. Injuries have really limited what Eifert has been able to do. If healthy, Eifert can at least be a good red-zone target.

Buffalo Bills OT Cordy Glenn is being acquired by the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, March 12.

Bengals | Adam Jones interested in returning    Sat Mar 10, 04:04 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent CB Adam Jones said he is interested in re-signing with the Bengals this offseason even though the team declined to pick up his 2018 option.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell could be let go    Sat Mar 10, 12:55 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell could be released this offseason in part because the team would create $4 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: It's not all about the money. The team could also cut LaFell in order to give more playing time to the younger receivers on the roster.

Bengals | Joe Mixon makes pitch to Sammy Watkins    Fri Mar 9, 10:19 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon sent a tweet to Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Sammy Watkins, asking Watkins to join him in Cincinnati.

Footballguys view: Mixon wants Watkins to 'squad up' with him in Cincinnati. The Rams did not put the franchise tag on Watkins and he's set to hit the open market next week. Watkins may find a soft market with so many options available, and there's a chance he might have to take a 'prove it' deal similar to the way that Alshon Jeffery did when he first joined the Eagles.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent TE Tyler Eifert recently told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Jim Owczarski that 'everything is fixed' in regards to the numerous injuries he has suffered over his NFL career - including the back injury that limited him to two games in 2017.

Footballguys view: Eifert has ability but he's not exactly coming out with a great track record. Can he reach his potential in a new situation? Some team will get him on the cheap and hope he is.

Bengals | John Ross not a bust     Fri Mar 2, 11:40 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross 'was not a miss,' head coach Marvin Lewis said Friday, March 2.

Footballguys view: Ross ran a 4.2 40-yard dash at the combine last year...and then it was all downhill from there. His rookie season was marred by injury and Ross only managed to play 17 snaps in three games, catching one pass for 12 yards. If healthy, Ross is a speed demon who takes the top off the defense. He's a great asset for the Bengals offense if he can stay on the field.

Bengals | Joe Mixon will be bell cow back    Wed Feb 28, 02:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will be the featured running back with RB Giovani Bernard mixed in, according to director of player personnel Duke Tobin.

Footballguys view: Good news for dynasty owners, for Mixon and for the Bengals. Mixon has the ability to be a lead back and a RB1 for fantasy owners. We'll see how the Bengals re-work their offense in 2018 to get him more involved.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert cleared    Mon Feb 26, 08:23 AM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent TE Tyler Eifert (back) has been cleared by doctors and is ready for organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Eifert is going to hit the open market having only played 10 games over the last two seasons. He'll have to settle for a one-year, 'prove it' deal for any team that wants to take a chance on him. Eifert is talented when healthy but is one of the most oft-injured players in the league.

Bengals | John Ross better prepared    Sun Feb 25, 10:15 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross blamed the injuries he suffered last year on not being prepared for the physical aspects of the NFL, but he says it 'all started to click' at the end of the season.

Footballguys view: Ross and his 4.2 40-yard dash were long forgotten once the regular season rolled around. A rookie season marred by injury, Ross will be looking to show his impact as a big play option for the Bengals.

Bengals | John Ross should be ready for workouts    Sun Feb 25, 01:04 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (shoulder) is recovering from shoulder surgery but should be on the field for offseason workouts and will be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: Ross's first season was a bust, and it didn't seem like Marvin Lewis and company were very high on him. He will have to earn his playing time despite being a top ten pick, and that starts with staying healthy, which has been an issue for him for his whole career.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert is 'unlikely' to be re-signed by the team, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer, who believes someone would be willing to pay up for his services, even if it's on a 'prove-it' type deal.

Footballguys view: Eifert had an up and down career in Cincinnati and it's time for a new location. We're not sure he's ever going to be more than a supporting player despite some nice physical tools.

Bengals | AJ McCarron a game manager?    Sun Feb 18, 10:12 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB AJ McCarron's 'ceiling is that of a solid game manager,' according to a scout.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Nobody should be going nuts over the potential of McCarron, but in this QB-desperate league he's going to get paid a handsome salary to get a chance to be a starter.
