Bengals | Tyler Boyd the real No. 2 in Cincinnati?    Tue Aug 22, 01:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell will be the 'official No. 2' to start the season, but WR Tyler Boyd could end up being the second-most productive wide receiver on the team, according to Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this, especially if you're in a deeper redraft league. Boyd could be a late-round 'lottery ticket' pick who could pay off if he's the Bengals no2 WR opposite A.J. Green.

Bengals | Shawn Williams to miss 4-6 weeks    Sun Aug 20, 04:11 PM

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals SS Shawn Williams (elbow) is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks because of his dislocated elbow, according to a source. Williams will not need surgery on the injury.

Bengals | Shawn Williams has dislocated elbow    Sun Aug 20, 09:52 AM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals SS Shawn Williams (elbow) suffered a dislocated right elbow during the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Aug. 19, according to a league source, although more tests have to be performed to determine his prognosis. In a best-case scenario, Williams could return to action in October, while he could wind up missing the entire 2017 season in a worst-case scenario.

Bengals | Shawn Williams carted off Saturday    Sat Aug 19, 07:52 PM

Cincinnati Bengals S Shawn Williams (arm, shoulder) appeared to suffer a significant injury to his right arm after landing awkwardly on a tackle attempt during the second quarter of a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Derron Smith is the next man up. He has the reputation of a better cover safety, so this might help the pass defense if Smith starts, but Williams presence will be missed in run defense. The Bengals draw the Ravens Week 1.

Bengals | KeiVarae Russell back at practice    Wed Aug 16, 07:42 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB KeiVarae Russell (concussion) participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16, after missing some time because of a concussion.

Bengals | John Ross full go in practice    Mon Aug 14, 04:03 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: Ross is a speedy rookie who can easily take the top off the defense. He can be used in a way like Tyreek Hill was used for the Chiefs last year, but Ross is a better route runner out of the gate. It doesn't mean he'll produce like Hill did last year (15th WR in fantasy in 2016), but just know that Ross has what scouts call 'adios' speed...and the Bengals would be wise to feature him as much as possible. He's WR56 (12.10) right now in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Cedric Peerman activated from NFI list    Mon Aug 14, 02:49 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Peerman (undisclosed) was activated from the Non-Football Injury list Monday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: Peerman is an incredibly versatile back, but he's not much of a fantasy factor...even for dynasty leagues. He'll compete for a final spot on the 53-man roster.

Bengals | Joe Mixon runs well in debut    Fri Aug 11, 11:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon had six carries for 31 yards and one catch for 11 yards in a 23-12 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 11. 'Once I got that first carry and got the first-game jitters out of the way, I adjusted,' Mixon said.

Footballguys view: Mixon is listed behind Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard on the depth chart...for now. He's clearly the best back the Bengals have and we're expecting him to open the season as the starter. Watch this competition continue to unfold as the preseason rolls on.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard, John Ross will not play    Fri Aug 11, 06:39 PM

Bengals | Jeremy Hill to start all season?    Thu Aug 10, 01:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill will start all season unless he's injured or 'absolutely terrible,' in the opinion of The Cincinnati Enquirer's Jim Owczarski. Hill was listed as the starting running back on the Bengals' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: His yardage total has gone up and down over the last few years, and the last two have seen sub-1,000 yard efforts on the ground, with his combined yards inching past the mark last season by 13 yards. At least his touchdown totals are hovering between nine and eleven. Current ADP is 48th running back off the board, with an overall ADP of 145. Meanwhile, rookie Joe Mixon is trending at an overall ADP of 45, and getting drafted as the 18th back off the board. It sounds like, as of now, Hill could be a huge value but it means embracing him against most rankings and early drafts and letting Mixon go, as he is way too early. The best bet, if you want to invest in the Cincinnati backfield, is likely to grab Mixon at too high a value and then grab Hill, that way you cover both sides. Understand also, that this all may shift over the next few week. So embracing that counter-narrative of Hill-not-Mixon and not having both players means you risk getting shafted if Mixon ends up in charge and you don't have him.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis taking break     Tue Aug 8, 05:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis (undisclosed) will be taking a break from his coaching duties to focus on a minor health issue, according to a statement released by the Bengals. Lewis could return as soon as Tuesday, Aug. 8, or later this week. Special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons will lead the team while Lewis is absent.

Footballguys view: It sounds like a minor health issue, and the Bengals should be able to operate smoothly while Lewis gets back to full strength.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill listed as starter     Tue Aug 8, 02:31 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill is listed with the first-team offense on the Bengals' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are looking to see how things shake out in Cincinnati when it comes to their RB position. Hill is the starter for now, but rookie Joe Mixon has an explosive skill set and could win the job. Oh yeah, don't forget about Gio Bernard either. Right now, Hill and Bernard are going off the board back-to-back at RB52/RB53 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Joe Mixon listed with third-team    Tue Aug 8, 02:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals rookie RB Joe Mixon is listed with the third-team offense on the Bengals' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: The rookie has to earn his spot. We imagine that by the time the regular season rolls around, Mixon will be higher in the pecking order. In fact, he should be the starter for Week 1 and he's got RB1 upside as the lead back for the Bengals. Mixon is currently RB17 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | C.J. Uzomah carted off    Mon Aug 7, 07:39 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE C.J. Uzomah (leg) was carted off the field during practice Monday, Aug. 7, after he suffered a leg injury. He is scheduled to undergo tests on his leg to determine the severity of the injury.

Footballguys view: The Bengals tight end depth is important because of Tyler Eifert's injury history. Tyler Kroft will be set up for more potential value if Eifert goes down again in the wake of this injury.

Bengals | Joe Mixon returns to practice    Fri Aug 4, 07:49 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (heel) was able to participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: We know that reports have Jeremy Hill as the starter, but we still think it's not a full-carry situation. Mixon is the more dynamic back, and he will overtake the veteran. Really, as long as he stays out of trouble off the field, on the field he will be a monster. Right now his ADP is 42 overall and he is coming off the board as the No. 17 back.

Bengals | Carl Lawson to be 'unleashed'    Fri Aug 4, 03:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals rookie DE/LB Carl Lawson has been one of the more impressive players on the field during training camp, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell, and head coach Marvin Lewis compared him to former first-round pick David Pollack.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill to be the Week 1 starter?    Fri Aug 4, 12:52 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill will likely exit training camp as the starting running back over Joe Mixon if history is any indication, according to ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.

Footballguys view: Hill may get ceremonial starter touches, but a healthy Joe Mixon will get more value and have significantly more fantasy value. Hill is still only marginally valuable for fantasy this year until we see otherwise.

Bengals | Joe Mixon has minor injury    Thu Aug 3, 05:35 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (heel) was kicked in the heel and cut during practice Thursday, Aug. 3, according to a source. The injury is not considered serious, however.

Footballguys view: Another sigh of relief as this training camp injury was just a false alarm.

Bengals | Heavy dose right away for Joe Mixon?    Thu Aug 3, 05:14 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon could see 15 to 20 carries per game in his rookie season, even starting in Week 1, in the opinion of Geoff Hobson of www.bengals.com.

Footballguys view: Mixon has a ceiling as high as any rookie running back, but Giovani Bernard will still play a role in the passing game and Jeremy Hill might get some short yardage work. Still he has the talent to make the Bengals plans for the other backs moot.

Bengals | Joe Mixon sees first-team reps    Sat Jul 29, 11:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was used in a variety of scenarios and saw some first-team reps during practice Saturday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Mixon has the upside of a superstar in this league. He's competing for the starting job, and we expect the rookie to win it in camp. Mixon has RB1 upside for fantasy owners, but he's got a RB2 price. His current ADP is RB16 (4.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard impressive Friday    Fri Jul 28, 08:00 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) looked very impressive during practice Friday, July 28, in the opinion of The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. Bernard is eight months recovered from suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: That's a good sign for his dynasty value, but in 2017 we're fully expecting rookie Joe Mixon to be the primary back for the Bengals. Bernard is competing with Jeremy Hill for reserve snaps/time/targets this season.

Bengals | John Ross to be limited early    Fri Jul 28, 07:42 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (shoulder) was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list but will be limited during the early part of training camp.

Footballguys view: That's smart as Ross continues to recover from his shoulder surgery. The rookie can flat out fly, and if Andy Dalton has time to throw we could see Ross become a favorite big-play option.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert fully healthy    Fri Jul 28, 01:00 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert claims he has been healthy for a 'couple months' and is cleared the start of training camp after undergoing back surgery in December.

Footballguys view: This is much better than last year, when his ankle surgery recovery stretched into the season. A healthy Eifert might hurt AJ Green's ceiling, but it certainly helps Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati offense's prospects. Fingers crossed that he makes it through camp healthy.

Bengals | Two Bengals to miss start of camp    Wed Jul 26, 08:24 PM

Bengals | John Ross unlikely to be ready for camp    Wed Jul 26, 06:29 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (shoulder) is expected to miss a few weeks of practice because of his surgically repaired shoulder.

Footballguys view: This goes against some of the other reports that said Ross might be ready for camp. The Bengals will take it easy with their first-round pick. Ross has crazy speed and will fly down the field in the blink of an eye. If QB Andy Dalton has time to throw, Ross will make for a great deep target.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard likely cleared for camp    Mon Jul 24, 09:53 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) is likely to be cleared for the beginning of training camp. Bernard is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Bernard will be back in action, but his role is much different (and smaller) from years past. Joe Mixon should be the lead back for the Bengals in 2017. The rookie has superstar potential, and his presence will push guys like Bernard and Jeremy Hill into backup roles.

Link to story

Bengals | Tyler Eifert expected for camp    Mon Jul 24, 09:52 AM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners believe that Eifert can come back healthy in 2017. He's going off the board at TE6 (7.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. Eifert is a touchdown hog, and projecting him for 8-10 touchdowns in 2017 is not outlandish.

Bengals | A.J. Green targeted heavily before injury    Sat Jul 22, 12:21 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green saw a 32.3-percent target share in Weeks 1 through 10 before he was lost for the season with a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Green was living up to his first-round and often top five ADP last year before his injury. If Tyler Eifert and John Ross stay healthy, he might not be targeted quite as often, but he is still worth a first-round pick this year.

Bengals | Adam Jones suspended for opener    Fri Jul 21, 01:14 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Adam Jones was suspended one game by the NFL on Friday, July 21, for violating the personal conduct policy. He has the right to appeal the decision.

Footballguys view: Same old, same old. Jones can't have many choices left to go at this point. Not only is he in trouble on a consistent basis, but he isn't as good as he once was.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi finding comfort zone    Sat Jul 15, 10:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi said he is a more confident player this season and more comfortable with his technique. 'Every day I'm getting better,' Ogbuehi said. 'I'm learning something every day and the game is slowing down.'

Footballguys view: With Andrew Whitworth (Rams) gone in free agency, the Bengals need Ogbuehi to elevate his game and win a starting tackle job in 2017. The 2015 first-round pick has been a bust to this point in his career, but it looks like he's getting one more opportunity to prove his value to the team.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis has high praise for Joe Mixon    Thu Jul 13, 08:58 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis admitted that RB Joe Mixon is 'off the charts talent-wise,' just from the brief time they have spent together on the football field. 'Big, fast, catch, run, see, smart -- and he's 20-year-old kid. He's as smart as a whip. You know, I mean, those things are fun. And I keep reminding everybody, he's a 20-year-old kid. Keep understanding that. Let Joe continue to grow and develop as we go.'

Footballguys view: Mixon is their version of Le'Veon Bell (Steelers). The rookie from Oklahoma can be a great running or receiving threat for the Bengals and he doesn't have to come off the field. His current ADP is RB16 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues and he could outperform that draft status.

Bengals | Joshua Malone standing out    Wed Jul 12, 12:07 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Joshua Malone is 6-3, 208 pounds and ran at 4.40 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. His size/speed ratio was evident on the practice field during the Bengals OTAs and minicamps.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick out of Tennessee, Malone caught 50 passes for 972 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final year with the Vols. At 6'3" 208 pounds, Malone has speed to burn. In addition to Malone, the Bengals added WR John Ross (1st round) out of Washington. It's clear the team wanted to get younger and faster at the WR position. Now only if their O-Line can hold up after losing two starters in free agency.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill to remain involved    Fri Jul 7, 09:35 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill is 'going to get some carries' and will remain a factor near the goal line, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

Footballguys view: Hill may keep Joe Mixon from reaching everyweek fantasy starter status, but he probably won't have much standalone value unless Mixon gets hurt. Giovani Bernard will turn this into a three-way committee once he is recovered from ACL surgery.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell likely will make team    Fri Jul 7, 04:26 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell likely will make the 53-man roster this season because it would leave at least $3 million of dead money on the salary cap if he was released, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell. The Bengals also like that LaFell has a mentor-like relationship with WR A.J. Green.

Footballguys view: LaFell was surprisingly productive both with and without Green in the lineup last year, but he is likely taking a back seat to first-round pick John Ross sooner than later. He'll be on our waiver wire watch list, especially if Ross is slow to get up to speed after offseason shoulder surgery.
