Bengals | Brad Kaaya claimed by Bengals    Mon Feb 11, 05:00 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals claimed QB Brad Kaaya off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Feb. 11.

Footballguys view: The Bengals need a camp arm and that's what Kaaya is. A sixth-round pick of the Lions in the 2017 NFL draft, Kaaya has bounced around to a few different teams in his short pro career.

Bengals | Andy Dalton fits Zac Taylor's offense    Wed Feb 6, 01:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton drew praise from new Bengals head coach Zac Taylor Tuesday, Feb. 5, saying the veteran quarterback is a 'great fit' for the coaching staff's offensive system. 'I've seen Andy do all of the things we've asked (Jared Goff) to do (in Los Angeles),' Taylor said. 'He's great under center, great in play action, great on the perimeter and the nakeds (bootlegs), and he's been an accurate passer when asked to drop back.'

Footballguys view: Dalton has worked well in West Coast systems, mainly from his time working with (then OC) Jay Gruden. The Bengals have some interesting weapons around Dalton and they have a strong rushing attack led by Joe Mixon. That should help Dalton when it comes to play-action passing. He's a QB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in 2019.

Bengals | A.J. Green out of boot    Tue Feb 5, 02:21 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) has shed the walking boot he's worn since undergoing surgery on his big toe in December.

Footballguys view: Good news for Green and the Bengals here. Green said it will take four to five months to get range of motion back, but he is expected to be fine entering the 2019 season. Furthermore, Green is excited to learn and play in Cincinnati's new offense under new head coach Zac Taylor.

Bengals | Cincinnati names Zac Taylor head coach    Mon Feb 4, 01:47 PM

Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor was officially named as the new head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, Feb. 4.

Footballguys view: The Bengals were just waiting for the Rams playoff run to be done in order to make this announcement. The Rams QB coach does have one month of experience being an offensive coordinator (five games with the Dolphins in 2015) but this is a big leap for him as the replacement for Marvin Lewis. Taylor got this job in part because of his work under Rams head coach Sean McVay. After a Super Bowl where McVay was thoroughly outcoached, this hiring of Taylor is a bit less exciting.

Bengals | Shawn Williams breaks out in 2018    Sat Feb 2, 10:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals SS Shawn Williams finished the 2018 season with 110 tackles, five interceptions, nine passes defensed, a sack and a forced fumble, ranking in the top five among defensive backs in both tackles and interceptions.

Bengals | Jacob Burney retires    Sat Feb 2, 11:34 AM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals defensive line coach Jacob Burney has retired from the National Football League after his contract with the team expired Friday, Feb. 1.

Footballguys view: Burney has been a coach for over 35 years. The defensive line wasn't the problem for the Bengals defense in recent years and Burney did a good job developing their draft picks at the position. They could choose to promote assistant Matt Raich, although likely new head coach Zac Taylor could also look outside of the organization for the hire.

Bengals | A.J. Green ready to shed walking boot    Tue Jan 29, 12:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) said Tuesday, Jan. 29, that he hopes to be out of his walking boot in a week as he recovers from his December toe surgery. Green's recovery was estimated to be at least a four-month process when he had surgery , and he said he'll be ready when it counts. 'Whenever the first game is I'll be 100 percent,' he said. 'The first regular season game.'

Footballguys view: Green should be fine for the open of the season and he could even see some action in OTAs. He'll still look like a slam dunk in the second round of drafts.

Bengals | Cincinnati backing Andy Dalton    Thu Jan 24, 11:14 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has a 'number of years' left, according to director of player personnel Duke Tobin, and Tobin said the team is 'comfortable' with Dalton as the starting quarterback.

Footballguys view: Dalton is at an interesting point in his contract. He's due $16.2 million in 2019 but there is zero remaining in dead money. If the Bengals wanted to move on from Dalton, then now would be the time to do it. It sounds like at this time they're content on keeping him around as the starter...stay tuned.

Bengals | Joe Mixon bringing consistency    Sat Jan 19, 10:16 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon finished fourth in the NFL with 1,168 rushing yards in 2018, running for at least 50 yards in 13 of his 14 games and topping 80 rushing yards nine times.

Footballguys view: Mixon's consistency makes him a safe RB1 for Fantasy GMs. In 2018, Mixon ranked 9th in the league with an average of 3.05 yards before contact. Mixon is able to take advantage of that space and turn it into positive yards. The Bengals offense may look a little different in 2019 but Mixon should remain the centerpiece of what they do on the ground.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd made big plays    Sat Jan 19, 09:46 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd's 21 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2018 were the seventh most in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Boyd did a lot of the work on those plays on his own. His air yards per target (9.52 yards) ranked only 60th in the NFL in 2018. However, his 407 yards after the catch ranked 30th in the league last season. Boyd should continue to be the deep threat for the Bengals opposite superstar WR A.J. Green.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd nearing full strength    Tue Jan 15, 02:59 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd (knee) is about two weeks away from being fully recovered from his sprained medial collateral ligament.

Footballguys view: Good news for Boyd here. This means that he should be able to participate in OTAs later this spring. Boyd played in 14 games this year, finishing with a career high in catches (76), receiving yards (1,028) and receiving touchdowns (7). He's a low-end WR2 or WR3/flex play for Fantasy GMs going forward.

Bengals | Hue Jackson fired    Sat Jan 12, 01:19 AM

Cincinnati Bengals assistant coach Hue Jackson was fired on Friday, Jan. 11, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are just waiting for Rams QB coach Zac Taylor to be named their new head coach. Taylor is likely to bring in his own staff and that's why Jackson is gone. Failed as a head coach with the Browns (and not that great with the Bengals), Jackson may have to accept a position coaching job in 2019.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert able to run    Tue Jan 8, 09:29 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) has resumed running and is reportedly 'up to jogging 20 minutes at a time,' according to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Footballguys view: Eifert is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. This news is good news for the veteran tight end but we imagine his market won't be white hot due to his long injury history. Eifert has appeared in only 14 games over the past three seasons and he's never played a full 16-game season since coming out of Notre Dame as a 2013 first-round pick.

Bengals | Cincy signs five to future contracts    Mon Dec 31, 03:20 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Moritz Bohringer, S Demetrious Cox, C Brad Lundblade, TE Andrew Vollert and WR Kermit Whitfield were signed to Reserve/Future deals Monday, Dec. 31.

Footballguys view: In super deep dynasty leagues we'll keep an eye on these guys. Böhringer, the most interesting prospect here, is a German-born player who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the first European player to be selected in the NFL Draft without playing any college football. Size and athleticism are hallmarks of his game, but Bohringer needs to work on the nuances of the position after transitioning from wide receiver to tight end.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis fired    Mon Dec 31, 10:03 AM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis informed his staff Monday, Dec. 31, that he is out as head coach.

Footballguys view: Lewis made it 16 seasons with the Bengals even though Lewis had an 0-7 record in the playoffs. The Bengals finish with a 6-10 record this year and have a roster with limited talent. Lewis has been leaning towards retirement as a head coach but we think he could find his way into a front office role somewhere in the league.

Cincinnati Bengals TE C.J. Uzomah caught four passes for 49 yards and one touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16.

Footballguys view: Uzomah was a favorite target of Jeff Driskel's in the first matchup with the Browns and didn't disappoint streamers in this one. He could be the team's starter next year, but the Bengals will have to bring him back in free agency.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon rushed for 68 yards on 17 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16. He also caught two passes for 10 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Mixon couldn't do it all himself in this one. He had one long run but otherwise wasn't able to get going against the Browns. He'll be a low ceiling RB2 at Pittsburgh next week.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Jeff Driskel went 13-for-19 for 133 yards and two touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16. He also rushed for 21 yards on five carries during the game.

Footballguys view: Driskel was ineffective for most of the game but came up with two touchdowns when the contest was already decided. He did nothing to change his status as a career backup during this extended opportunity and will try to play spoiler at Pittsburgh next week.
