Bengals | Jake Fisher close to ready    Mon Aug 22, 02:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Jake Fisher (ankle) looked good walking around the locker room Monday, Aug. 22, and hopes to be ready for Week 1.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert to begin jogging    Mon Aug 22, 12:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) said he'll try to jog for the first time Monday, Aug. 22. Eifert said he has been running on a treadmill in the pool, and his ankle feels good. He has been lifting and receiving multiple treatments per day without setbacks.

Footballguys view: Good signs for the talented TE, but his eventual return to the field is unknown. We don't think Eifert is going to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. There's a chance he could be ready after missing a few games to start 2016. When he returns, Eifert will be a welcome addition to a Bengals passing game that needs weapons outside of WR A.J. Green. Eifert should be able to return to his TE1 production when at full strength. He has a current ADP of TE7 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell practicing Sunday    Sun Aug 21, 04:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (hand) participated in practice Sunday, Aug. 21. He caught balls during warmups.

Footballguys view: This is a good sign that LaFell's hand injury won't keep him from playing Week 1 against the Jets. If LaFell can go it hurts Tyler Boyd's Week 1 sleeper train momentum a bit.

Bengals | Jake Fisher injury update    Fri Aug 19, 04:07 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals OT Jake Fisher (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 18. Fisher was seen in a walking boot after the game.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd stands out    Fri Aug 19, 11:46 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd is turning heads this preseason and has begun to separate himself from the pack behind WR A.J. Green. Boyd had two catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in the second preseason game. '(He) does an awesome job of being in the right place, knowing what to do and how to do it and you can't say enough good things about T.B.,' QB A.J. McCarron said. 'If I have anything to say he's always all ears and doesn't question it. He's awesome, can't say enough good things about him.'

Footballguys view: Boyd is a crafty receiver at the catch point with terrific body control and hands. He's not going to make much happen after the catch or create a lot of separation, but if he's the #2 target to open the season, he could be a spot start in deep leagues and interesting DFS option. Brandon LaFell is sidelined with a hand injury and Tyler Eifert is out recovering from ankle surgery, so the targets could be there for Boyd in September.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd finds the end zone    Thu Aug 18, 10:59 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd caught two passes for 38 yards and a touchdown in a 30-14 preseason win over the Detroit Lions Thursday, Aug. 18.

Footballguys view: Boyd has some 'old man' to his game. We like the rookie, and appreciate the veteran savvy he has as such a young player. Boyd may not possess the upside of other rookie WRs but he could provide the Bengals with the no.2 WR they need opposite A.J. Green.

Cincinnati Bengals OT Jake Fisher (leg) exited against the Detroit Lions with a right leg injury Thursday, Aug. 18.

Bengals | Andrew Billings out for the season    Tue Aug 16, 08:09 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DT Andrew Billings (knee) is expected to miss all of his rookie season, according to a source. Billings underwent surgery on his torn meniscus Monday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have lost first-round pick William Jackson III to a torn pectoral already. Their defense is deep enough to absorb these injuries, but it's still a dismaying development for them.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell may not miss time     Tue Aug 16, 02:07 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (hand) is still expected to be ready by Week 1 despite a torn ligament in his hand, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

Footballguys view: If LaFell misses time and nobody notices, does it matter? We're not excited by LaFell with his new team. Rookie Tyler Boyd is a player who could emerge opposite A.J. Green at some point this season.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell may need surgery    Tue Aug 16, 11:47 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (hand) has a torn ligament in his hand, and he could require surgery. The surgery isn't expected to be of the season-ending variety.

Footballguys view: We will see if the Bengals make a move at wide receiver. They have no proven receivers on the roster after A.J. Green, so returner Brandon Tate and second-round pick Tyler Boyd will be pressed into more duty for now.

Bengals | Andrew Billings has surgery    Mon Aug 15, 04:12 PM

Cincinnati Bengals rookie DT Andrew Billings (knee) underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus Monday, Aug. 15. He is out indefinitely, if not for the season, according to a source.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill hurts hand     Fri Aug 12, 11:57 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill (hand) injured his hand in the first quarter of a preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Friday, Aug. 12. He stayed on the sidelines but didn't return to the game.

Footballguys view: No word on the severity of this injury just yet. Stay tuned.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd impressing coaches    Fri Aug 12, 05:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd has been performing very well during training camp and has exceeded head coach Marvin Lewis' expectations. 'He's really entered training camp and come back and worked and done the things we expected him to do and be able to do. He's taken it and he's grasped it and ran with it,' Lewis said. Boyd likely will be the No. 3 receiver this season because of his ability to play on the outside and in the slot.

Footballguys view: The second-round pick was an impressive player in college at PITT. Boyd reminds some in the scouting community of Keenan Allen (Chargers) because of his body control and ability to make difficult catches seem routine. The Bengls WR corps is thin after losing both Marvin Jones (Lions) and Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) in free agency. If Boyd can have a semi-breakout this year, it would greatly benefit the Bengals passing game.

Cincinnati Bengals DT Andrew Billings (leg) was carted off the field during practice Wednesday, Aug. 10, and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on his leg injury.

Bengals | Margus Hunt learning from legend    Tue Aug 9, 12:39 AM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Margus Hunt has been working with Hall of Fame DE Kevin Greene learning how to improve as a pass rusher. 'I'm incorporating the way he rushed from an outside linebacker stance. Fortunately or unfortunately, I don't know, I can't be in the two-point stance. But what falls after that, it's the same principle. Getting off that line, getting a hard start on the offensive tackle. Just getting them to be nervous,' Hunt said Monday, Aug. 8.

Bengals | Mike Nugent showing consistency    Tue Aug 9, 12:36 AM

Cincinnati Bengals PK Mike Nugent was 6-for-6 on his field goal attempts Monday, Aug. 8, hitting all of his attempts from between 44 and 50 yards.

Footballguys view: Nugent is facing competition from Zach Hocker, but he has risen to the occasion and all signs point to him being the Bengals kicker again this year.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell stepping up game    Tue Aug 9, 12:36 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell has struggled at times in camp with drops and getting open, but he showed improvement Monday, Aug. 8. Beat writer Geoff Hobson says LaFell has been flashing more and more each practice lately.

Footballguys view: LaFell shouldn't be drafted in typical leagues, but if he starts hot, he could be the 2A option in the passing game while Tyler Eifert is out.

Bengals | Dre Kirkpatrick likely for Friday    Tue Aug 9, 12:35 AM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick (undisclosed) missed practice Monday, Aug. 8, but he is not expected to miss the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 12, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: The Bengals array of first-round picks at corner have been banged up this summer, but Kirkpatrick appears to be the healthiest of the three, with 2016 pick William Jackson III possibly out for the year.

Bengals | Chykie Brown in hunt for spot    Tue Aug 9, 12:35 AM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Chykie Brown has played plenty of snaps in practice with several cornerbacks sidelined, and it appears he has a leg up in the competition for the last cornerback spot.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell ahead of Tyler Boyd    Mon Aug 8, 04:49 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell is listed ahead of rookie WR Tyler Boyd on the Begnals' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: LaFell is there for now, but it won't be long before he's dropping passes and frustrating fantasy owners. We like Boyd's upside in dynasty leagues. The rookie from PITT has some Keenan Allen (Chargers) to his game. It shouldn't take long for him to overtake the inconsistent veteran LaFell.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert resumes running     Fri Aug 5, 10:28 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) ran on the side field for the first time during training camp Thursday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Eifert is still weeks away from re-taking the field, and it could even be until October based on the revealing of his ankle surgery being on the inside of his ankle instead of the outside. That surgery often has a return to play timeline of 5-6 months instead of the 3-4 months that was originally reported.

Bengals | William Jackson to have surgery    Thu Aug 4, 01:45 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Cincinnati Bengals CB William Jackson III (chest) will undergo surgery to reattach a torn pectoral muscle at an undisclosed time, according to Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. Jackson is a good candidate for the NFL's Injured Reserve-Designated to Return list.

Bengals | Tyler Kroft out 4-6 weeks    Thu Aug 4, 12:42 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Kroft (knee) will miss four to six weeks due to a sprained knee. However, he is expected to be ready for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Kroft is supposed to be pushing Tyler Eifert, who had a huge 2015. We see Eifert building on that as a TE1, which means Kroft, when healthy, is likely to take a back seat. Consider him no more than a TE4 unless Eifert chokes.

Bengals | William Jackson headed for IR?    Tue Aug 2, 10:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB William Jackson III (pectoral) might be headed for the season-ending Reserve/Injured list after suffering a torn pectoral muscle Monday, Aug. 1. The injury takes several months to heal. Head coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday, Aug. 2, that a decision will be made after doctors meet again to finalize a decision.

Bengals | Tyler Kroft escapes serious injury    Tue Aug 2, 10:01 PM

Updating a previous report, the injury to Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Kroft (knee) is not serious, a source said Tuesday, Aug. 2. Kroft left practice Tuesday due to a hyperextended knee.

Footballguys view: The Bengals still need Kroft to be as up to speed in the offense and on the same page as Andy Dalton as possible. 2015 fifth-rounder CJ Uzomah is the next man up at the position and he should get first-team reps, along with more snaps for recently extended FB/move TE Ryan Hewitt.

Bengals | Darqueze Dennard has ankle sprain    Tue Aug 2, 10:00 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard (ankle) is dealing with a sprained ankle, head coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: The Bengals excellent CB depth is dwindling quickly. 2015 fourth-rounder Josh Shaw could be pressed into nickel duty with the injuries piling up in the secondary.

Bengals | Ryan Hewitt contract update    Tue Aug 2, 10:00 PM

Updating a previous report, the Cincinnati Bengals signed FB/TE Ryan Hewitt to a contract extension through the 2019 season, the team announced Tuesday, Aug. 2. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed, although it is believed to be a deal worth $2.5 million per year.

Footballguys view: Hewitt's role with the team will grow while Tyler Eifert is out, and in general with a much thinner wide receiver corps. He won't have fantasy value, but he could help the offense function better as a whole.

Bengals | Jake Kumerow nursing hammy injury    Tue Aug 2, 09:50 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jake Kumerow (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury that may keep him sidelined for a few weeks. He is battling for a roster spot, and an injury certainly doesn't help his chances.

Footballguys view: Kumerow is a long-framed receiver who had impressed with his route-running and release off of the line. While this could cost him a roster spot, he is still likely to be on the Bengals practice squad and given another chance in the future.

Bengals | Tyler Kroft injury update    Tue Aug 2, 07:39 PM

Bengals | Tyler Kroft hurts knee     Tue Aug 2, 06:04 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Kroft (knee) was carted off the practice field Tuesday, Aug. 2, with a knee injury. Kroft was holding his knee while talking with trainers before leaving the field. Head coach Marvin Lewis did not provide an update.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation as Kroft was expected to be the lead TE for the Bengals while Tyler Eifert (ankle) misses time. Getting the cart out is never a good sign, but we'll wait for more information before hitting the panic button.

Bengals | William Jackson tears pectoral    Tue Aug 2, 01:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB William Jackson III (chest) tore a pectoral muscle and is expected to miss most, if not all of, his rookie season, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are deep enough at corner that they didn't need Jackson to make a big contribution this year, but it's still a blow to a team that has invested three first round picks at corner in the last five years.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd making big strides    Mon Aug 1, 11:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd has improved dramatically from spring practices to training camp, according to his quarterback. 'He's taken a huge jump from OTAs to camp, he's made some tough catches and has been impressive,' QB Andy Dalton said Monday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys view: Boyd should play in the slot for the Bengals and he could get a lot of targets early while Tyler Eifert is out, but he's not going to be a big play or red zone factor. He might make an impact on the level of Jamison Crowder's in Washington in 2015.

Bengals | Camp important for Mario Alford    Fri Jul 29, 04:26 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mario Alford is entering an important training camp for him because the team wants to see if he is a legitimate candidate for the punt returner job, according to special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons. Alford returned five punts for 59 yards last preseason.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert to shed boot soon    Fri Jul 29, 04:09 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) is expected to have the walking boot on his surgically repaired ankle removed at some point next week. He will test his ankle with mobility and other range-of-motion exercises when the boot is removed. Eifert said his rehab is going well but does not have a timetable for his return.

Footballguys view: Eifert playing Week 1 is still a longshot, and it's possible that he'll miss multiple games. The Bengals will take it slow with his recovery. If you take Eifert as your TE1, you'll need to take a strong TE2 to cover him, including possible setbacks.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 26. Eifert underwent right ankle surgery in late May.

Footballguys view: Eifert originally injured his ankle in the Pro Bowl. He was advised that surgery was not needed until it was determined necessary in late May. His status for the start of the regular season is up in the air. We don't think he'll go on the PUP list to begin the year, but Eifert could miss the first month of the season due to this injury.

Bengals | No preseason for Vontaze Burfict    Tue Jul 26, 03:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (knee) will not play in the preseason, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. Burfict will serve a three-game suspension to start the 2016 regular season.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are only trying to keep Burfict healthy through camp and the preseason. He's been able to be a tackling machine for the Bengals during his pro career, but Burfict does have a problem of getting banged up too often. Limiting his workload in August is a good call.
