Bengals | More on Tyler Eifert    Tue May 5, 01:35 PM

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (shoulder, elbow) has been cleared from his dislocated elbow but is awaiting clearance on his shoulder.

Footballguys view: The "B" word (bust) is going to be tossed around even more this year if Eifert can't stay healthy and fails to produce. He said he lost 15 pounds but has packed on some of that back to 250 and is working on bulking up. Eifert is expected to be ready for training camp.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert will be ready for camp    Mon May 4, 07:10 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow, shoulder) said he will be able to fully participate once training camp begins. Eifert has been running routes and catching passes as part of his rehab.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Bengals here. They went ahead and added Tyler Kroft (Rutgers) in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft to improve their depth at the position. We love Eifert's upside, but he's got to start staying healthy and producing at the expected level. In two pro seasons, Eifert only has 42 catches, 482 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. That's not what the team was expecting when they selected him in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi may begin on PUP list    Mon May 4, 01:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi (knee) could start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would keep him out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Footballguys view: The Bengals knew this when they selected Ogbuehi in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. He injured his knee in the Aggies bowl game, and it's probably best for him to start the season shut down. On the PUP list, Ogbuehi would be forced out of action for the first six weeks of the season. After that, the team would have three weeks to determine whether or not to activate him or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Bengals | Tyler Kroft selected by CIN    Fri May 1, 10:51 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Rutgers TE Tyler Kroft in Round 3 (No. 85 overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Kroft is a big blocker who can help set the edge as a run-blocker. He's too inconsistent as a pass-catcher, and we think that limits his fantasy upside in the pros.

Bengals | Eric Ward let go    Fri May 1, 06:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Eric Ward was waived Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Never much more than a practice squad player, Ward might find a home as a camp body this summer.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi selected 21st overall    Thu Apr 30, 10:26 PM

Texas A and M OT Cedric Ogbuehi was selected 21st overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: An interesting pick here. Ogbuehi tore his ACL in the Aggies bowl game earlier this year, and he may not be ready at the beginning of the regular season. When healthy, Ogbuehi is an athletic player on the outside with the potential to become a decent right tackle.

Bengals | Considering Cedric Ogbuehi    Thu Apr 30, 03:00 AM

Texas A&M OT Cedric Ogbuehi is being targeted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 21st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Ogbuehi is coming back from a knee injury suffered in the the Aggies' bowl game. There's a good chance that he'll have to begin the season on the PUP list, forcing him to miss the first six weeks of the season. Ogbuehi has good foot quickness, and he does a good job of run-blocking in space. His technique as a pass-protector needs work. The raw tools are there for him to be a solid tackle in the NFL when healthy.

Cincinnati Bengals LB L.J. Fort was waived Wednesday, April 29.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis extended    Wed Apr 22, 11:26 AM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis signed a one-year extension Wednesday, April 22. He's under contract through the 2016 season.

Footballguys view: Some may look at Lewis's lack of playoff success as flying in the face of his long tenure in Cincinnati, but he has actually kept the team competitive through lots of turmoil and QB ups and downs. The front office seems as happy with him as ever.

Bengals | A.J. Green not worried about contract    Mon Apr 20, 04:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green said he's not in a hurry to get a new deal done, even though he's in the final year of his current contract. 'I'll just focus on football, and everything else will take care of itself.'

Footballguys view: The Bengals like to be cautious with their free agent dollars. Even though Green is a superstar, the process will be no different--especially since they have a lot of players set to be free agents in 2016. They have 27 other players on the current 68-man roster will be eligible for free agency next offseason. Of those players, 12 started at least one game for the Bengals last season.

Bengals | CIN meets with Dorial Green-Beckham    Fri Apr 17, 04:22 PM

Oklahoma WR Dorial Green-Beckham met with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 16, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bengals don't care about character concerns. Green-Beckham has top-10 talent but off-field problems that caused him to bounce around in college will keep his draft stock down. We'll see if he can be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Green-Beckham could be one of the best receivers in the game if he just stays out of trouble. In a lot of ways, he's similar to Josh Gordon (Browns).

Bengals | Jason Campbell may retire    Sun Apr 12, 06:55 AM

Free-agent QB Jason Campbell (Bengals) is considering retirement, according to sources close to the team.

Footballguys view: Campbell has rejected multiple opportunities to sign a contract for 2015, including offers from the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.

Bengals | Cedric Peerman re-signs    Thu Apr 9, 03:28 PM

Free-agent RB Cedric Peerman (Bengals) re-signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 9. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: As expected, even with Peerman's visit with the Eagles. With the wealth of talent ahead of him, Peerman is a special teams only type of guy.

Bengals | Cedric Peerman expected to re-sign    Thu Apr 9, 01:40 PM

Free-agent RB Cedric Peerman (Bengals) is expected to re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 9, according to sources.

Footballguys view: With Jeremy Hill, Giovani Bernard and Rex Burkhead in line for carries, Peerman will once again be a special teams force and not much else barring injuries. According to Dehner, Peerman led the Bengals in special teams tackles last season with 15 and nobody else had more than 10.

Bengals | Emmanuel Lamur re-signs    Wed Apr 8, 03:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Emmanuel Lamur officially re-signed Wednesday, April 8, to a one-year, $2.356 million deal.

Footballguys view: The Bengals tendered him at a second-round level, and that prevented any other team from adding him and surrendering a pick. Lamur didn't grade out positively last year as the Bengals strong-side linebacker. Expect more of the same this season.

Bengals | Denarius Moore reunites with former OC    Mon Apr 6, 10:02 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) is signing a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 6, according to a source. He will be reunited with former offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who was the head coach in Moore's rookie season of 2011.

Footballguys view: We'll see if reuniting with Jackson will make any sort of difference. Talent is not a question with Moore--but staying durable and focused certainly are question marks. Moore will compete for a reserve role in the Bengals stacked wide receiver corps.

Bengals | Denarius Moore to sign with Bengals    Mon Apr 6, 01:35 PM

Free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) will sign a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 6, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Moore is such a tease. His natural talent is borderline elite--but his focus, effort and lack of durability have held him back as a pro. We'll see if a change of scenery helps Moore get his career back on track. He'll compete for playing time as a reserve receiver for the Bengals.

Bengals | Josh Johnson added    Thu Apr 2, 02:38 PM

Free-agent QB Josh X. Johnson (49ers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 2. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson has bounced around the league a few times (including a previous stint with the Bengals), so while his mobility and arm strength continue to be intriguing the consistency with which he finds himself unemployed tends to dull the enthusiasm. We like his upside but as he's never been able to deliver on it, we're not expecting anything different in Cincinnati.

Bengals | Denarius Moore meeting with CIN    Thu Apr 2, 02:01 PM

Free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) is meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Moore has flashed some potential but he's struggled to play up to his potential as a pro. We'd have to see where they line him up and he would need to overcome Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones. At this point we would see his impact as minimal and a WR4 or WR5 at best.

Bengals | Brandon Tate re-signed    Wed Apr 1, 02:08 PM

Free-agent WR Brandon Tate (Bengals) re-signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday, April 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Tate has never done much as a receiver on the football field. The Bengals likely kept him around for depth at the position, and so he could help out as a return man on special teams.

Bengals | Cincinnati interested in Rob Housler    Wed Apr 1, 01:06 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are interested in free-agent TE Rob Housler (Cardinals), and he is hopeful of deciding on a team in the next week. The Baltimore Ravens have also discussed adding Housler.

Footballguys view: The Bengals could use some tight end help with Jermaine Gresham on the open market. Housler could be a good move tight end, but he's never really played up to his potential as a pro. The Bengals have Tyler Eifert as their top tight end right now.

Bengals | Pat Sims contract update    Fri Mar 27, 02:12 AM

Bengals | Pat Sims signs    Thu Mar 26, 04:21 PM

Free-agent DT Pat Sims (Raiders) signed an undisclosed deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, March 26.

Footballguys view: While active for every game, Sims rarely saw the field. At best he will be a rotational player for the Bengals, where he spent the first five years of his career.

Bengals | No competition for Andy Dalton    Tue Mar 24, 05:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton will not have competition at the quarterback position heading into the 2015 season, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. 'We feel Andy Dalton's our quarterback, yes we do,' Lewis said. 'It's a different era than when Steve and Joe were there.'

Footballguys view: Dalton needs to get this team to--and most importantly win--in the playoffs. Lewis said that the team is committed to Dalton long term after just signing him to an extension.

Bengals | Interested in Pat Sims    Mon Mar 23, 07:28 AM

Free-agent DT Pat Sims (Raiders) has some interest from his old team, as the Cincinnati Bengals have expressed a desire to bring Sims back.

Footballguys view: Sims played in Cincinnati for five years before he signed with Oakland in 2013. Bringing him back would make a lot of sense for both sides.

Bengals | Jason Campbell, Cedric Peerman could return    Sat Mar 21, 02:26 PM

Free-agent QB Jason Campbell and RB Cedric Peerman could re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Bengals could use a solid backup QB like Campbell. We're not believers in A.J. McCarrron as a backup behind Andy Dalton. Peerman should re-sign because he can do it all as a reserve running back.

Bengals | Brandon Ghee signs with Cincinnati    Thu Mar 19, 10:51 AM

Free-agent CB Brandon Ghee (Chargers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on an undisclosed contract Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Ghee may not even make the roster, as he will have to battle for a spot low on the depth chart. Picked in the third-round in 2010 by the Bengals, Ghee left as a free agent for San Diego last year but was cut in preseason. He then played six games with Tennessee before being released in early December with just one interception and three tackles.

Bengals | Michael Johnson agrees to terms     Sun Mar 15, 11:06 AM

Free-agent DE Michael Johnson (Buccaneers) has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: A good move for both sides here. Johnson looked good during his previous stint (2009-2013) with the Bengals. He signed a huge-money deal last offseason with the Buccaneers, and he failed to live up to the contract. The Bucs decided to let him go after his one disappointing season, and the Bengals bring him back. Johnson is a good pass-rusher who should start at DE opposite Carlos Dunlap.

Bengals | Clint Boling agrees to terms    Wed Mar 11, 12:15 PM

Free-agent OG Clint Boling (Bengals) has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals on a five-year deal worth $26 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Boling is a good run blocker and his retention will help the prospect of Jeremy Hill.

Bengals | Clint Boling likely to re-sign    Tue Mar 10, 09:54 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals are close to re-signing free-agent OG Clint Boling.

Footballguys view: It's a real win for the Bengals. Boling can play multiple positions on the offensive line, and he was arguably one of the best guards available on the open market.

Bengals | Nick Fairley to visit    Tue Mar 10, 06:50 PM

Free-agent DT Nick Fairley (Lions) will visit with the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday, March 11, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have zero issues taking chances on players with some baggage. Fairley has natural talent and the size to be dominant in the middle. Motivation, injuries and weight problems have all held him back as a pro.

Bengals | Sign A.J. Hawk    Tue Mar 10, 05:40 PM

Free-agent LB A.J. Hawk (Packers) is signing a two-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday, March 10. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Hawk gives them good veteran depth at the linebacker position. He's never really played up to the potential he had coming out of college, but Hawk is insurance in case Vontaze Burfict's microfracture surgery causes unseen complications.

Bengals | Devon Still not offered tender    Tue Mar 10, 01:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DT Devon Still will not be offered a tender Tuesday, March 10, but the team did offer him a one-year deal for an amount less than the $1.54 million low-round tender that he qualified for, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Still is considering the offer while he takes his family matters into account.

Bengals | Jacoby Jones visiting Cincinnati    Mon Mar 2, 11:11 AM

Free-agent WR/KR Jacoby Jones (Ravens) is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, March 2.

Footballguys view: Jones doesn't offer much as a receiver anymore--he never really did. However, he can help a team upgrade their return game as he's still a big play waiting to happen with the ball in his hands.

Bengals | Greg Little released    Fri Feb 27, 01:28 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Greg Little was released Friday, Feb. 27.

Footballguys view: Little has bounced around the league after coming out of North Carolina a few years ago. He's athletic but he drops too many passes and he's never played up to his potential. He might find the market cool for his services.

Bengals | Robert Geathers released    Fri Feb 27, 01:27 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Robert Geathers was released Friday, Feb. 27.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2004, Geathers was a starter for most of his career up until last season. He was set to make $2.85 million in 2015, and now Geathers will be looking for a new home.

Bengals | James Casey to visit    Thu Feb 26, 12:17 PM

Free-agent TE James Casey (Eagles) is scheduled to meet with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Footballguys view: Casey is a good all around tight end, but more proficient as a blocker than a pass-catcher. The Bengals could use the extra blocking help but it's not a high priority.

Bengals | May show interest in Greg Hardy    Sun Feb 22, 09:42 AM

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy could receive interest from the Cincinnati Bengals during free agency.

Footballguys view: That Cincinnati just being Cincinnati. For years, they have taken chances on players through the draft and free agency that have serious character concerns. Hardy is coming off a season that he spent on the Commissioner's Exempt List after domestic violence allegations came up before the start of the 2014 season. All charges were dropped in that case as the alleged victim did not want to testify against Hardy. Now, he's looking to restart his career as one of the top pass-rushers in the game but a possible (further) suspension could keep his price tag lower.

Bengals | OC takes blame for Andy Dalton's struggles    Fri Feb 20, 01:52 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton and the passing game must improve, but offensive coordinator Hue Jackson took some of the blame for Dalton's struggles in 2014. 'I'll be the first to tell all of you that I don't think I did a good enough job of getting him to where I think he needs to be,' Jackson said. 'That's one of my biggest responsibilities in my mind this upcoming year. He played well at times. There were times where there was inconsistency, and I've got to get him over that hump.' Jackson knows Dalton must cut down on his turnovers, and the infusion of healthy receivers next year should help.

Footballguys view: Well the easy and snappy comeback would be 'great what explains the other years?' Dalton has struggled off and on for years and collapses as soon as it's time for the playoffs. That's not entirely a coordinator issue as it stands when you look beyond last season. Jackson may have hurt things in 2014, but there are larger concerns about what Dalton is capable or that have little to do with his offensive coordinator.

Bengals | May not have spot for Terence Newman    Fri Feb 20, 07:37 AM

Free-agent DB Terence Newman (Bengals) may not have a spot with the Cincinnati Bengals next season, meaning the club may let him test free agency. Newman wants to continue his playing career, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

Footballguys view: Newman's not the same player he used to be. The Bengals could be ready to move on, and there's likely a CB-needy team who could show interest.
