Bengals | Andrew Whitworth listening to offers    Mon Feb 20, 10:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andrew Whitworth is poised to test the free agent market 'unless blown away by a massive contract offer' from team management. 'At this point in my career it's about the challenge, the excitement of trying to win that Super Bowl,' Whitworth said. 'I want to make sure wherever it is, and hopefully it's in Cincinnati, that team is prepared to try and fight for that trophy.' Whitworth has never been part of a playoff victory in 12 NFL seasons.

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth talking with Bengals    Mon Feb 20, 03:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth has been in talks with the Bengals in regards to re-signing. 'Cincinnati has been wonderful and I love it there,' Whitworth said.

Footballguys view: Whitworth may be the best left tackle on the free agent market this offseason -- if he makes it there. At age 35, Whitworth does not have an outstanding skill set but he does get the job done. If the Bengals can't keep him around, we could see a team like the Broncos making a move for the veteran.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert has knack for scoring    Sun Feb 19, 10:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert had five touchdowns in eight games in 2016, and he has 18 touchdowns in 21 games over the last two seasons combined.

Footballguys view: Too bad he doesn't have a knack for staying healthy. Everyone under the sun knows Eifert is super talented, but he has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. In fact, Eifert has been limited to only 22 games over the last three years. If healthy, Eifert is a TE1 set-it-and-forget-it starter for fantasy owners.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard rehab update    Sun Feb 19, 11:16 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) is making solid progress in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and could avoid landing on the PUP list, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. However, Hobson believes there is still a possibility that he could miss the first game or two of the 2017 regular season.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about Bernard's availability as the season gets closer. He should be very limited during training camp, but Bernard's workload should ramp up near the end of August. How he responds to that will determine how soon he can be ready to return.

Bengals | AJ McCarron the best QB trade target?    Sat Feb 18, 10:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is a better trade target than New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to one NFL executive. 'If I had to choose one, I would go after McCarron,' the executive said. 'Ideally, you get him for a late second- or early third-round pick.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick in 2014, McCarron has been patiently waiting and developing behind starter Andy Dalton. In seven appearances (all in 2015), McCarron has six touchdowns and only two interceptions. He worked in a pro style offense during his college career at Alabama, and he's known as a cocky Alpha male who can be a fiery leader. McCarron does struggle with pressure, but when settled down he's not afraid to make tough throws.

Bengals | Trevor Roach retires from NFL    Fri Feb 10, 03:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Trevor Roach retired from the NFL Friday, Feb. 10.

Bengals | AJ McCarron will be RFA    Thu Feb 9, 11:24 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron will be a restricted free agent in 2018 because he didn't accrue enough active games to count toward free agency.

Footballguys view: This is good for the Bengals, as they can flip him for picks if they are so moved. If he was an unrestricted free agent, they wouldn't get as much for him. McCarron has been mentioned in terms of teams looking for a quarterback, but we have no track record to know how good he really is.

Bengals | Cincinnati claims Chris Brown    Wed Feb 8, 05:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Chris Brown was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday, Feb. 8, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Brown broke his foot during the preseason with the Cowboys. A UDFA in 2016 out of Notre Dame, Brown has the speed to take the top off the defense. We're monitoring his career in super deep dynasty leagues.

Bengals | A.J. Green lobbies for Andrew Whitworth    Sat Feb 4, 12:25 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green said one player the Bengals 'can't lose' is impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth.

Footballguys view: The Bengals would make Andy Dalton's job a lot harder if they have to turn to 2015 draft picks Jake Fisher or Cedric Ogbuehi. The Bengals aren't known to break the bank in free agency, so this could get interesting if Whitworth is looking for a payday. Green's fantasy owners should obviously root for Whitworth to return.

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth contract talks coming    Tue Jan 31, 08:30 AM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth has agreed to open negotiations on a contract next week.

Footballguys view: 2015 first-round pick Cedric Ogbuehi hasn't developed as quickly as hoped, and 2015 second-round pick Jake Fisher has had trouble staying healthy. The Bengals had a good plan to not be tied to Whitworth and the cost of a top offensive tackle on the open market, but it hasn't panned out. Andy Dalton needs Whitworth to stay in Cincinnati to preserve his and the team's prospects for the playoffs and progress in 2017.

Bengals | Adam Jones' future uncertain    Fri Jan 27, 04:09 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have not decided on CB Adam Jones' future with the team and probably will not make a decision until they review all of the information involving his arrest, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Earlier this month, Jones was arrested on four charges including assault in Cincinnati. The charges include assault, disorderly conduct, obstructing official business, and harassment with a bodily substance. Jones allegedly pushed a man, poked him in the eye before refusing to enter a police car. He allegedly kicked and head-butted an officer, then he allegedly spit on the hand of a nurse while he was being booked. That's a lot of allegations, and with a history of trouble the Bengals could just move on. They'll save $6.8 million against the cap if they cut him before June 1st.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis hoping for an extension    Wed Jan 25, 10:33 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is entering the final season of his contract and coming off a 6-9-1 campaign but hopeful he and team owner Mike Brown can come to some kind of agreement on an extension during the off-season.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have stuck with Lewis for two reasons--he was winning and he was relatively cheap. The former is a far more important point, and worth noting. Lewis has consistently lost good coordinators to head coaching opportunities and that was bound to catch up. We think they give him some more time.

Bengals | Rex Burkhead will be FA    Sat Jan 14, 12:49 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Rex Burkhead will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.

Footballguys view: Burkhead could be back with the Bengals for a cheap price. It's a strong running back class in the 2017 NFL draft, so teams in need may look there instead of low-end free agents like Burkhead.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell will be free agent    Sat Jan 14, 12:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.

Footballguys view: LaFell could return to the Bengals in 2017. In his one year with the team, LaFell had arguably the second-best season of his career. He'll come with a cheap price if the Bengals want to bring him back.

Bengals | No talks between Bengals, Kevin Zeitler    Mon Jan 9, 06:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent OG Kevin Zeitler said his agent did not have any contract talks with the Bengals during the season but hopes to re-sign with the Bengals during the offseason.

Footballguys view: One of the best guards in the game today, Zeitler is set to make quite a bit of money in free agency. We'll see if the Bengals can find a way to keep this talented player around at an appropriate (and likely high) price.

Bengals | AJ McCarron trade inevitable?    Sun Jan 8, 09:40 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is expected to be traded during the offseason, according to beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. Dehner said it's a matter of when and who will give up the most in the trade.

Footballguys view: McCarron thinks he'll be traded, but it's not that simple. According to Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, McCarron didn't have any suitors last offseason and he doesn't think that changes this year. McCarron is seen as a starter-in-waiting, but he's only going to backup Andy Dalton in Cincinnati. If the Bengals don't trade him, McCarron will have to wait to hit free agency.

Bengals | Brandon LaFell to have thumb surgery    Sun Jan 8, 12:49 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (thumb) will undergo surgery this offseason to repair a ligament in his thumb, but it should not affect his availability for next season.

Footballguys view: LaFell is set to be a free agent in March. This surgery shouldn't keep interested teams away from the veteran, but we can't imagine the market being white hot for his services. Instead, a return to the Bengals may be likely. LaFell had 64 catches for 862 yards and six touchdowns in his first year with the Bengals in 2016.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill to serve as backup?    Thu Jan 5, 08:40 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill will likely serve as the backup running back and goal-line specialist in 2017, according to beat writer Paul Dehner Jr.

Footballguys view: It's a bit too soon to be making that proclamation. The Bengals have Gio Bernard under contract until 2020, and he'll compete with Hill for the most snaps in the Bengals backfield. Bernard is best suited as a part-time player as he's not built to take a starter's workload. We're looking at RBBC all over again for the Bengals in 2017.

Bengals | No suitors for AJ McCarron?    Wed Jan 4, 11:32 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron wasn't the target of trade offers last year, according to head coach Marvin Lewis, and Lewis said he doesn't expect the situation to change this offseason. 'His market was better a year ago and no one inquired,' Lewis said.

Footballguys view: That's a truth for many backup quarterbacks out there. McCarron is a name some like to throw around as a potential starter, but if that was the case then some team would make a move. It's not a QB-driven league, it's a QB-desperate league and teams will look anywhere to find that starting passer. McCarron felt he would be traded this offseason, but that may not be the case. He's likely to have to wait it out and hit the open market when his rookie contract is up.

Bengals | Adam Jones arrested    Tue Jan 3, 08:37 AM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Adam Jones was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 3, and charged with assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business, which are misdemeanors. The bodily substance felony charge is alleged to be for spitting on a nurse at the jail.

Bengals | A.J. McCarron should be traded    Mon Jan 2, 05:54 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is preparing and expecting to be traded this offseason. McCarron has one year left on his four-year contract from his rookie season and is due $735,413 next season.

Footballguys view: McCarron is one of the most interesting backup quarterbacks out there, and it will be interesting to see if some team comes after him. There's no word on what the Bengals would want in return for the young quarterback.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert back by camp    Mon Jan 2, 11:33 AM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) said the prognosis on his back is good, and he'll definitely be back for training camp. He has a meeting with a doctor in a couple of days.

Footballguys view: Eifert had injuries problems last offseason after severely injuring his ankle in the Pro Bowl. This back injury required surgery, and hopefully he can be good to go when the Bengals kick off training camp in late July.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Rex Burkhead rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17. He also caught two passes for 25 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Burkhead will be a free agent next year and he gave teams a lot to think about in this game. He showed he could be a workhorse within the context of one game and he's already a good receiving back. We'll be watching his destination closely.

Bengals | Cody Core leads team in receiving    Sun Jan 1, 05:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Cody Core caught four passes for 82 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17.

Footballguys view: Core has had a few good moments in the playing time created by AJ Green's injury and outperformed college teammate Laquon Treadwell in their rookie year. He could challenge for the #3 job next year if the Bengals don't bring Brandon LaFell back.

Bengals | A.J. Green placed on injured reserve    Sat Dec 31, 11:19 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Saturday, Dec. 31.

Footballguys view: Reports indicated that Green was unhappy with not being able to play after working hard to get back from this hamstring injury. This decision won't make things better. The season was lost, and the Bengals didn't want to risk further injury. Green will be good to go for offseason programs, and we feel he'll be back with a vengeance in 2017.
