Bengals | James Wright limited this offseason    Wed Jul 1, 03:53 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR James Wright (knee) was not part of team activities this offseason. Wright is expected to be the No. 4 wide receiver behind WRs A.J. Green, Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu.

Bengals | Marvin Jones is fully recovered    Wed Jun 24, 09:02 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) did not play in 2014 due to multiple foot and ankle issues, but he is healthy and was impressive in organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

Footballguys view: Jones is a deep threat who had last season blown up by injuries. The Bengals are very excited to have him back, and he should excel across from A.J. Green. He certainly can do more against single coverage than Mohamed Sanu. We see him as a WR5 or WR6 (about his current ADP) but he has the potential to produce at a higher level. In 2013, Jones finished the year as the 21st-best fantasy wide receiver.

Bengals | Mohamed Sanu in mix to start    Wed Jun 24, 09:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu is in the mix to start opposite WR A.J. Green, but with WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) healthy Sanu will have plenty of competition.

Footballguys view: Sanu had a lot of issues holding onto the ball last season (he has seven dropped passes last year, tied for third-most in 2014) and is going to have a hard time beating out Marvin Jone--if Jones is healthy. Right now, he's going undrafted in early drafts and we wouldn't take him as more than a late-round flier.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert back in business    Wed Jun 24, 09:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow, shoulder) had his 2014 season cut short by a dislocated elbow and shoulder injury, but he is back to 100 percent and was impressive during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

Footballguys view: Eifert has been fantastic in spring practices, and with Jermaine Gresham in the wind, will be a big part of this offense. We have him rated as a TE2, and his ADP is even lower right now, but if healthy he could have a very productive season, especially in two tight end leagues.

Bengals | A.J. McCarron expected to be No. 2    Wed Jun 24, 09:00 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB A.J. McCarron is expected to be the primary backup quarterback to QB Andy Dalton.

Footballguys view: McCarron has done well enough to make everyone else not named Dalton expendable--and maybe make Dalton nervous. That's a way down the road, at least this season, but it bodes well for McCarron that he has impressed this quickly after missing part of last season due to injury.

Bengals | Josh Johnson not in Cincy plans    Wed Jun 24, 08:59 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Josh Johnson is not expected to compete with QB A.J. McCarron for the backup job to starting QB Andy Dalton, and is viewed as just an extra arm in camp.

Footballguys view: Not surprisingly, Johnson continues to not live up to the potential many saw in him when he joined the league. This could be his final shot at a roster spot, as at this point he's pretty clearly unable to play at a pro level.

Bengals | Vontaze Burfict is a question mark    Wed Jun 24, 08:57 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (knee) is working his way back from microfracture surgery on his knee and is viewed as a question mark heading into training camp.

Footballguys view: Burfict exploded in 2013, but injuries took him out of 2014.The knee is a concern and starting off training camp on the PUP list would be concerning. If he's healthy, he should be a fantasy stud, but there seems to be real doubt as to whether he will be healthy.

Bengals | Keith Wenning signed    Wed Jun 24, 02:33 PM

Free-agent QB Keith Wenning (Ravens) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday, June 24. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Ball State product came into the league as a sixth-round pick for the Ravens in the 2014 NFL draft. He's got good anticipation and gets the ball out of his hand quickly. He'll be a camp arm for the Bengals, but he might do enough to stick around on the practice squad.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi unsure about return    Tue Jun 23, 04:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi (knee) said he is making progress in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but would not say when he thinks he will return to the field.

Footballguys view: The Bengals selected back-to-back tackles in the first two round of the 2015 NFL draft. Ogbuehi was their first-round pick, and he's got the time to properly heal from this knee injury. We could see Ogbuehi starting the season on the PUP list as there's no real timetable for his expected return. He's got the upside to be one of the best tackles in the game, so we're expecting the Bengals to be very cautious with him as he recovers.

Bengals | Marvin Jones happy with progress    Mon Jun 22, 02:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Lewis (ankle, foot) said he is happy with how he performed during offseason workouts. 'I'm rolling. I don't think that's ever going to change. But it feels good just to track those deep balls and go and just - boom! - go. I'm happy and I'm proud of myself for just pushing through this situation,' Jones said. Jones showed quick feet and steady hands during the workouts.

Footballguys view: We're hopeful that Jones can get his career back on track after missing the entire 2014 season. Jones was put on Injured Reserve last year with this foot problem, but now he's close to full strength. In 2013, Jones scored 10 touchdowns, snared 51 passes for 712 yards and finished as the 21st-best fantasy receiver that season. If healthy, he could post similar numbers (with fewer touchdowns) in 2015.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert impressing    Mon Jun 22, 11:27 AM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow, shoulder) was brought along slowly this spring, but he caught virtually everything thrown his way in open practices. Eifert looked sharp running routes.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Bengals here. Having an asset like Eifert playing at the top of his game can go a long way to helping this offense. A first-round pick in 2013, Eifert has yet to make much of an impact as a pro. Last year, a dislocated elbow suffered in the first game caused him to miss the season. This year, Eifert is the clear-cut starter at tight end for the Bengals and he has the upside to perform like a low-end TE1. His current ADP is TE18 (14.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Marvin Jones having good offseason    Fri Jun 19, 04:28 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (foot, ankle) supposedly looked quicker than he did before missing last season with a broken ankle. Jones was able to get a good amount of repetitions and get his timting back with QB Andy Dalton, according to Coley Harvey of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Message! Jones has a ton of talent, he just needs to stay healthy and he will produce for the Bengals...and for his fantasy owners. As the Bengals WR2 he could snare about 50 passes this season with 4-6 touchdowns thrown in.

Bengals | Waive Terrelle Pryor    Thu Jun 18, 05:24 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Terrelle Pryor was waived Thursday, June 18.

Footballguys view: Pryor's just not going to stick in the NFL. He was bounced from the Chiefs earlier this year, and now he's back on the open market. Maybe--maybe--some team will take a chance on him as a camp arm, but we're not holding our breath.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi signs deal    Thu Jun 11, 02:44 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi signed a four-year deal with the team Thursday, June 11. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ogbuehi is coming off a torn ACL, so the Bengals will take it slow with him given they have the tackle spots on both sides locked up. The line isn't desperate for his services at this point.

Bengals | Geno Atkins impressing    Wed Jun 10, 10:55 AM

Cincinnati Bengals DT Geno Atkins (knee) looks 'scary' in organized team activities, according to defensive line coach Jay Hayes. 'It's scary how fast and explosive he is right now,' Hayes said. 'I think he has the confidence that he has his legs under him. He feels like he did.'

Footballguys view: A scary Atkins is going to be a concern for opponents this season. Atkins can stuff the run, but he also can generate middle pressure against the quarterback. It sounds like Atkins should rebound from a disappointing 2014 where he looked tentative returning from his ACL injury.

Bengals | Marvin Jones back at practice    Tue Jun 2, 10:38 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) was able to take part in practice Tuesday, June 2, at organized team activities (OTAs). He broke away from a cornerback and had a catch on a deep route from QB Andy Dalton.

Footballguys view: Jones is such a talented wide receiver. In 2013, Jones started to come on and finished the season with 51 catches for 712 yards and a whopping 10 touchdowns. He didn't play at all last year due to this injury. Jones is back, and fantasy owners should take note. He could be a helluva value for fantasy owners this season as he's coming off the board at WR58 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Rex Burkhead working as receiver    Tue Jun 2, 09:43 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Rex Burkhead was working with receivers and catching passes during the media portion of practice at organized team activities (OTAs) this week.

Footballguys view: Burkhead has been used in the slot for the Bengals before. The team wants to get him a little more involved in the offense this year, but it's unlikely to be a large enough role to make him a fantasy factor.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill expects to share snaps    Fri May 29, 05:28 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill said he expects to share carries with RB Giovani Bernard this upcoming season. 'Obviously there's going to be a balanced attack,' Hill said. 'I don't think he's got to wear either one of us out, so that way we can make it through all 16 games for a playoff push.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners should be expecting a RBBC as well. Hill is the lead back, and he's the more valuable back for fantasy. Right now, Hill is coming off the board at RB11 (2.09) in 12-team PPR leagues. Bernard is a later pick at RB25 (5.09).

Bengals | Tyler Kroft signs    Thu May 28, 04:02 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Kroft signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, May 28. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Kroft will be more of an in-line tight end, blocking more often than not. His fantasy value is incredibly low as Tyler Eifert should be their top tight end this year.

Bengals | Vontaze Burfict has work to do    Tue May 26, 04:59 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (knee) will be rehabilitating throughout the summer and has a long road to recovery ahead of him, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. Burfict is recovering from surgery on his left knee.

Footballguys view: Burfict is currently recovering from microfracture knee surgery, and his status for the start of training camp is up in the air. In fact, Burfict might not even be ready at the beginning of the regular season. He's a candidate to begin the regular season on the PUP list.

Bengals | A.J. Green wants extension, not in rush    Mon May 25, 10:32 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green would like to sign a contract extension with the Bengals and the team would like to sign him to an extension. Green currently has a fifth-year option worth $10.2 million, which would make him the largest cap hit on this season's team.

Footballguys view: There's a couple of contract situations to work out before Green gets his extension. Both the Cowboys (Dez Bryant) and the Broncos (Demaryius Thomas) have to decide if they're going to sign their franchise-tagged superstar wide receivers to long-term deals. If that happens before the July 15th deadline, it will help establish a price for guys like Green. With next season's strong class of free-agent wide receivers, whichever one signs first, is likely to be surpassed by the rest.

Bengals | AJ McCarron healthy    Sat May 23, 06:18 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron (shoulder) is healthy and hoping to push QB Andy Dalton in 2015. 'We wanted him in our building so bad and it happened and then it didn't happen and now it's happening ... So it's fun. It's delayed gratification, that's all. Now we've got a chance to see where he can take himself and where we can help him go,' explained quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese.

Footballguys view: McCarron is healthy, and he has enough confidence for two players. We're not believers in his long-term upside, but it will be interesting to see how he performs in training camp and the preseason. Andy Dalton is the clear-cut starter, and we don't see McCarron pushing him for that spot.

Bengals | Vontaze Burfict's status uncertain    Fri May 22, 02:43 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict's (knee) status for the start of training camp is uncertain at this point. Burfict hopes to be ready for camp and does not want to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: The PUP list to start camp is different from the PUP list to start the regular season. If on the PUP list at the start of training camp, Burfict would be clear to return at any time he's ready. If on the PUP list to start the regular season, Burfict would be forced to miss the first six weeks of the season. We feel he'll be ready for Week 1, but his status for the start of training camp is clearly up in the air.

Bengals | Andre Smith likely to sit out    Fri May 22, 02:39 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andre Smith (triceps) is making progress in his recovery from a triceps injury but is not expected to participate in offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have a couple of talented offensive linemen who are coming back from injury. Smith should be ready for the start of training camp.

Link to story

Bengals | James Wright expected to practice    Fri May 22, 02:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR James Wright (knee) is expected to participate in offseason workouts that start next week.

Footballguys view: Wright was a seventh-round pick by the Bengals in the 2014 NFL draft. He's a reserve receiver worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues.

Bengals | Marvin Jones should be at workouts    Fri May 22, 02:16 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (foot) should be able to participate in offseason workouts that start next week.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see Jones back in action. He emerged late in the 2013 season with 713 yards and 10 touchdowns, but Jones didn't play at all last year. If healthy, Jones will be a strong option for the WR2 job in Cincinnati opposite A.J. Green.

Bengals | Jake Fisher signs rookie deal    Wed May 20, 02:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Jake Fisher signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 20. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Fisher was the team's second-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Coming out of Oregon, Fisher displays tremendous athleticism on the football field. He's a perfect fit for the zone system the Bengals use up front, and Fisher can play at left tackle or right tackle in the pros.

Bengals | C.J. Uzomah signs deal    Thu May 14, 12:31 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE C.J. Uzomah signed a contract with the team Thursday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: In the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Bengals added Uzomah--a former high school wide receiver with move tight end ability at the pro level. Uzomah can line up all over the field (slot, in-line, out wide, in the backfield), and this versatility could help him get on the field as a rookie. He'll compete for playing time behind Tyler Eifert and fellow rookie Tyler Kroft.

Bengals | A.J. McCarron plans to challenge Andy Dalton    Tue May 12, 12:32 PM

Cincinnati Bengals backup QB A.J. McCarron (shoulder), who spent almost all of his rookie season in 2014 on the non-football injury list with a shoulder injury from college, plans to push QB Andy Dalton hard for the starting job in training camp this summer. 'Andy's our starter. I know that. I love Andy to death. But I want to make him better every way that I can,' McCarron said. The coaches said McCarron looks to be throwing pain-free this offseason. He spent the offseason training with quarterbacks coaches David Morris and Tom House, and House changed some of McCarron's mechanics to help him throw tighter with more compact body control.

Footballguys view: Try not to spit out your coffee when you read the headline. We love McCarron's confidence, but how about a dose of reality? McCarron is a backup-level quarterback at the pro level. Sure, Dalton isn't Andrew Luck but he's certainly better than McCarron 10 times out of 10 and twice on Sundays. Dynasty owners take note that we're not expecting much from the former Alabama quarterback. We'll see if McCarron can prove us (and a lot of other people) wrong about his upside.

Bengals | Kevin Brock released    Mon May 11, 02:06 AM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Kevin Brock was released by the team on Sunday, May 10, making him a free agent.

Footballguys view: The Bengals added rookie Tyler Kroft (a Rutgers product like Brock) in the 2015 NFL draft, thus making Brock expendable. He should be picked up to be a camp body at least.

Bengals | Terrelle Pryor signed    Sun May 10, 03:59 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed free-agent QB Terrelle Pryor (Chiefs).

Footballguys view: Pryor was with the Bengals on a tryout basis. He must have done enough to impress the team if he was signed. Pryor is still no guarantee to make the final roster. Behind starter Andy Dalton, the team has second-year pro A.J. McCarron and journeyman Josh Johnson. Pryor will be a camp arm only unless he can impress in the preseason.

Bengals | Position switch not an option for Pryor    Sat May 9, 10:01 PM

Cincinnati Bengals tryout quarterback Terrelle Pryor has no intent of changing position to make a team. "If I can't play quarterback, I can't play football, I'm pretty much done," Pryor said.

Footballguys view: Pryor came out of high school as a talented defensive tackle and quarterback (plus he was the nation's best high school basketball player). He has the skill set to be a move tight end at the pro level, but he's intent on playing one position. We're unlikely to see him ever play meaningful snaps at the position.

Bengals | More on Tyler Eifert    Tue May 5, 01:35 PM

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (shoulder, elbow) has been cleared from his dislocated elbow but is awaiting clearance on his shoulder.

Footballguys view: The "B" word (bust) is going to be tossed around even more this year if Eifert can't stay healthy and fails to produce. He said he lost 15 pounds but has packed on some of that back to 250 and is working on bulking up. Eifert is expected to be ready for training camp.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert will be ready for camp    Mon May 4, 07:10 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow, shoulder) said he will be able to fully participate once training camp begins. Eifert has been running routes and catching passes as part of his rehab.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Bengals here. They went ahead and added Tyler Kroft (Rutgers) in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft to improve their depth at the position. We love Eifert's upside, but he's got to start staying healthy and producing at the expected level. In two pro seasons, Eifert only has 42 catches, 482 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. That's not what the team was expecting when they selected him in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi may begin on PUP list    Mon May 4, 01:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi (knee) could start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would keep him out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Footballguys view: The Bengals knew this when they selected Ogbuehi in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. He injured his knee in the Aggies bowl game, and it's probably best for him to start the season shut down. On the PUP list, Ogbuehi would be forced out of action for the first six weeks of the season. After that, the team would have three weeks to determine whether or not to activate him or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Bengals | Tyler Kroft selected by CIN    Fri May 1, 10:51 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Rutgers TE Tyler Kroft in Round 3 (No. 85 overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Kroft is a big blocker who can help set the edge as a run-blocker. He's too inconsistent as a pass-catcher, and we think that limits his fantasy upside in the pros.

Bengals | Eric Ward let go    Fri May 1, 06:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Eric Ward was waived Friday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Never much more than a practice squad player, Ward might find a home as a camp body this summer.

Bengals | Cedric Ogbuehi selected 21st overall    Thu Apr 30, 10:26 PM

Texas A and M OT Cedric Ogbuehi was selected 21st overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: An interesting pick here. Ogbuehi tore his ACL in the Aggies bowl game earlier this year, and he may not be ready at the beginning of the regular season. When healthy, Ogbuehi is an athletic player on the outside with the potential to become a decent right tackle.

Bengals | Considering Cedric Ogbuehi    Thu Apr 30, 03:00 AM

Texas A&M OT Cedric Ogbuehi is being targeted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 21st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Ogbuehi is coming back from a knee injury suffered in the the Aggies' bowl game. There's a good chance that he'll have to begin the season on the PUP list, forcing him to miss the first six weeks of the season. Ogbuehi has good foot quickness, and he does a good job of run-blocking in space. His technique as a pass-protector needs work. The raw tools are there for him to be a solid tackle in the NFL when healthy.

Bengals | Marvin Lewis extended    Wed Apr 22, 11:26 AM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis signed a one-year extension Wednesday, April 22. He's under contract through the 2016 season.

Footballguys view: Some may look at Lewis's lack of playoff success as flying in the face of his long tenure in Cincinnati, but he has actually kept the team competitive through lots of turmoil and QB ups and downs. The front office seems as happy with him as ever.

Bengals | A.J. Green not worried about contract    Mon Apr 20, 04:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green said he's not in a hurry to get a new deal done, even though he's in the final year of his current contract. 'I'll just focus on football, and everything else will take care of itself.'

Footballguys view: The Bengals like to be cautious with their free agent dollars. Even though Green is a superstar, the process will be no different--especially since they have a lot of players set to be free agents in 2016. They have 27 other players on the current 68-man roster will be eligible for free agency next offseason. Of those players, 12 started at least one game for the Bengals last season.

Bengals | CIN meets with Dorial Green-Beckham    Fri Apr 17, 04:22 PM

Oklahoma WR Dorial Green-Beckham met with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 16, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bengals don't care about character concerns. Green-Beckham has top-10 talent but off-field problems that caused him to bounce around in college will keep his draft stock down. We'll see if he can be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Green-Beckham could be one of the best receivers in the game if he just stays out of trouble. In a lot of ways, he's similar to Josh Gordon (Browns).

Bengals | Jason Campbell may retire    Sun Apr 12, 06:55 AM

Bengals | Cedric Peerman re-signs    Thu Apr 9, 03:28 PM

Free-agent RB Cedric Peerman (Bengals) re-signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 9. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: As expected, even with Peerman's visit with the Eagles. With the wealth of talent ahead of him, Peerman is a special teams only type of guy.

Bengals | Cedric Peerman expected to re-sign    Thu Apr 9, 01:40 PM

Free-agent RB Cedric Peerman (Bengals) is expected to re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 9, according to sources.

Footballguys view: With Jeremy Hill, Giovani Bernard and Rex Burkhead in line for carries, Peerman will once again be a special teams force and not much else barring injuries. According to Dehner, Peerman led the Bengals in special teams tackles last season with 15 and nobody else had more than 10.

Bengals | Emmanuel Lamur re-signs    Wed Apr 8, 03:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals LB Emmanuel Lamur officially re-signed Wednesday, April 8, to a one-year, $2.356 million deal.

Footballguys view: The Bengals tendered him at a second-round level, and that prevented any other team from adding him and surrendering a pick. Lamur didn't grade out positively last year as the Bengals strong-side linebacker. Expect more of the same this season.

Bengals | Denarius Moore reunites with former OC    Mon Apr 6, 10:02 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) is signing a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 6, according to a source. He will be reunited with former offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who was the head coach in Moore's rookie season of 2011.

Footballguys view: We'll see if reuniting with Jackson will make any sort of difference. Talent is not a question with Moore--but staying durable and focused certainly are question marks. Moore will compete for a reserve role in the Bengals stacked wide receiver corps.

Bengals | Denarius Moore to sign with Bengals    Mon Apr 6, 01:35 PM

Free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) will sign a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 6, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Moore is such a tease. His natural talent is borderline elite--but his focus, effort and lack of durability have held him back as a pro. We'll see if a change of scenery helps Moore get his career back on track. He'll compete for playing time as a reserve receiver for the Bengals.

Bengals | Josh Johnson added    Thu Apr 2, 02:38 PM

Free-agent QB Josh X. Johnson (49ers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, April 2. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson has bounced around the league a few times (including a previous stint with the Bengals), so while his mobility and arm strength continue to be intriguing the consistency with which he finds himself unemployed tends to dull the enthusiasm. We like his upside but as he's never been able to deliver on it, we're not expecting anything different in Cincinnati.
