Bengals | Darqueze Dennard visits    Tue Apr 15, 01:54 PM

Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard visited with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are looking for a young corner to groom as an eventual starter. Dennard can consistently re-route wide receivers when playing press. He's a physical player who will fight for contested passes. Dennard should be a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Bengals | Jason Verrett to visit    Mon Apr 14, 04:16 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to meet with Texas Christian CB Jason Verrett.

Footballguys view: Verrett is a smaller corner, measuring in around 5'10" 185 pounds. He makes up for his lack of size with a feisty attitude and ability to fight for contested passes. Verrett has the speed to fit in the back pocket of receivers as they move downfield. He's an option for the Bengals in the first round. The Bengals need a young corner to develop, and Verrett has starter's upside.

Bengals | Leon Hall cleared for drills    Mon Apr 14, 04:09 PM

Cincinnati Bengals CB Leon Hall (Achilles') has been cleared for all football drills as part of his rehab.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Bengals here. Hall is a talented player when healthy. The team will be cautious with him as he comes back from this injury.

Bengals | Calvin Pryor to visit    Mon Apr 14, 02:53 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to meet with Louisville S Calvin Pryor this week.

Footballguys view: Pryor can roam the field in coverage, but he can also play close to the line of scrimmage and make a big hit. He's a violent hitter who loves to initiate contact. Pryor would give any team an intimidating presence at the free safety position. He's a lock to be a first-round pick. The Bengals love defenders who can intimidate, and Pryor fits that bill.

Bengals | Meet with Logan Thomas    Sat Apr 12, 11:15 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals have met with or worked out Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas this offseason.

Footballguys view: Thomas is a mid- or late-round quarterback with a raw skill set. He's big, has a strong arm and he can keep plays alive with his feet. Thomas is not accurate and needs to work on his decision making from the pocket. The upside has always been there with Thomas, but he didn't really develop as a collegian and he didn't play up to his potential. The Bengals already have four quarterbacks on the roster (Andy Dalton, Jason Campbell, Josh Johnson, Zac Robinson) but could add another one to the mix.

Bengals | OC believes Andy Dalton will take next step    Wed Apr 9, 11:59 AM

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson thinks QB Andy Dalton is close to becoming a great quarterback in the NFL. 'The guy has the makeup to do it. What I've got to do is just continue to push, prod, pull, motivate, support him and the rest of this offensive unit, and then we've got to pick up the pieces everywhere else to give him a chance to do his job. If we do that, this young man will be right where he needs to be,' Jackson said. Jackson has already vowed to focus more on a running attack to take some of the pressure off Dalton's arm.

Footballguys view: Dalton has more touchdowns in the first three years of his pro career than any other quarterback in NFL history except for Dan Marino and Peyton Manning. His regular-season success is well documented, but so are his postseason struggles. Dalton needs to prove himself in big games to advance his team in the playoffs. That is his "next step."

Bengals | Re-sign Dane Sanzenbacher     Tue Apr 8, 03:01 PM

Bengals | Have met with Terrance West    Mon Apr 7, 11:22 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have already had a pre-draft meeting with Towson RB Terrance West.

Footballguys view: Some in the scouting community have West graded as a second-round pick. West is a big power back who can run in the 4.5s. He can catch the ball and he's good in short-yardage situations. West had a heavy workload from his days in Towson, and he could give a team like the Bengals quality depth.

Bengals | Will meet with Darqueze Dennard    Mon Apr 7, 05:34 PM

Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard said he is scheduled to meet with the Cincinnati Bengals before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Dennard has the ability to re-route receivers at the line of scrimmage. He's an aggressive player who plays with a physical style. Long speed is a question, but he has the fluidity in his hips to turn and run off of press coverage. His mindset and playing style is perfect for a defense like the Bengals.

Bengals | Will work out Allen Hurns    Thu Apr 3, 07:53 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to conduct a private workout with Miami WR Allen Hurns before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Hurns is likely heading for UDFA status, but the Bengals are always looking for some depth. This is mostly due diligence but you never know if they'll find a diamond in the rough.

Bengals | Danieal Manning could compete for starting job    Thu Apr 3, 03:07 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals FS Danieal Manning could enter into a competition for the starting job with FS George Iloka, but his primary role will be to come in off the bench and mentor the younger safeties on the roster.

Footballguys view: With all the changes on defense for the Bengals, Manning stepping up could be a very good thing. They'll need some players with upside to contribute and some vets to help lead on the field and in the lockerroom.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton said he has had some contract extension talks with the team this offseason and hopes to be able to reach an agreement.

Cincinnati Bengals president Mike Brown said the team would like to sign QB Andy Dalton to a contract extension this offseason but is not sure if they will be able to reach an agreement.

  Bengals | To exercise A.J. Green's option    Sun Mar 23, 05:09 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals will exercise WR A.J. Green's option for 2015.

Footballguys view: A wise move for the Bengals here. Green is one of the best young receivers in the game today. By exercising this option the Bengals are locking him in for around $7 million annually over the next two years. The deadline for fifth-year options to be exercised on 2011 draft picks is May 3rd.

Bengals | May keep three QBs on roster    Fri Mar 21, 07:08 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals are considering keeping three quarterbacks on the roster next season for the time since QB Andy Dalton became the starter. The team currently have four quarterbacks on the roster but could add another one during the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: With the addition of Jason Campbell, the Bengals have a full quarterback corps. There are some who feel Josh Johnson could wind up in Washington where he would be reunited with former offensive coordinator (and current Washington head coach) Jay Gruden. If not, Johnson will compete with Zac Robinson for the third-string job.

The Cincinnati Bengals visited with free-agent DE Robert Ayers (Broncos) Wednesday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Ayers hasn't gotten much interest on the open market. The 2009 first-round pick had a career-high 5.5 sacks in 2013, but he would only be a rotational player on a strong defense like Cincinnati.

Bengals | Will not match offer sheet to Andrew Hawkins    Tue Mar 18, 03:19 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals will not match the offer sheet from the Cleveland Browns for WR Andrew Hawkins. Hawkins will become a member of the Browns.

Footballguys view: "Young Baby Hawk" has had an incredible journey in the NFL. Undrafted out of Toledo in 2009, Hawkins played in the CFL before getting a shot on Michael Irvin's reality show "4th and Long." Hawkins finished second in that show to Jesse Holley, but it helped put him on the NFL map. He worked hard to impress with the Bengals, and now Hawkins will be rewarded with a four-year $13.6 million contract. He's the perfect slot receiver to work behind top targets Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron.
