Bengals | Cincinnati to meet with Joe Mixon    Sat Mar 11, 02:06 PM

Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon is scheduled to have a private visit with the Cincinnati Bengals at some point before the 2017 NFL draft.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are one of the teams in the league that doesn't really worry about character concerns (see Pacman Jones, Vontaze Burfict). Mixon was suspended for a whole season at Oklahoma after a violent incident where he broke several bones in a woman's face during an altercation. The talent is there for Mixon to be a lead back, but some teams may not want to draft him. The Bengals are not one of those teams.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WR Brandon LaFell agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Bengals Wednesday, March 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: LaFell must've done enough in his first year with the Bengals to get another deal. In 2016, LaFell had 64 catches for 862 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers didn't blow anyone out of the water, and they could be looking for him to do more in 2017.

Bengals | Coach optimistic about Andrew Whitworth return    Fri Mar 3, 05:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said the team is optimistic that they will be able to re-sign impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth this offseason.

Footballguys view: It's a bad free agent class at offensive tackle. Whitworth is going to get bags of money thrown at him if he makes it to the open market.

Bengals | AJ McCarron available for a price    Thu Mar 2, 09:34 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron could be traded for the right offer, and the Bengals are likely seeking at least a second-round pick for McCarron, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: After playing coy - and thereby setting the bait - the Bengals now feed the line into the water and see who is biting. There's not much in free agency, and Jimmy Garoppolo will be more expensive so we can see there being interest. However, he didn't show a ton in seven games during the 2016 season and is as unproven as the rookies coming in. We don't think the Bengals are going to land a big fish this offseason.

Bengals | AJ McCarron not being shopped    Wed Mar 1, 11:55 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is not someone the team is looking to trade, according to team executive Duke Tobin. The team is unwilling to trade him within the division.

Footballguys view: Another team not trading a backup quarterback. McCarron may want to be traded away, but he's going to have to wait until 2018 when he becomes a restricted free agent.

Bengals | A.J. Green cleared    Wed Mar 1, 11:32 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) has been cleared for offseason work.

Footballguys view: With a healthy Green, the Bengals passing attack should be on point. Fantasy owners know that he's a WR1 in any format.

Bengals | Bengals likely to let Kevin Zeitler walk    Wed Mar 1, 01:34 AM

Cincinnati Bengals OG Kevin Zeitler is 'likely' to sign a deal close to $10 million during free agency, if not slightly over that amount. The Bengals probably won't re-sign him as a result, as that number is 'out of the range' that they're willing to pay for a guard.

Footballguys view: With both Zeitler and LT Andrew Whitworth set to hit the open market, the Bengals don't have enough money to keep both. They're about middle of the pack with approximately $42 million in cap space to work with this offseason.

Bengals | Extension not 'crucial' for Marvin Lewis    Sun Feb 26, 01:19 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, who is entering the final year of his contract, does not view getting an extension done this offseason as as 'critical or crucial,' according to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Footballguys view: Could this finally be the end for Lewis in Cincinnati? Perhaps. The team hasn't won a playoff game in 14 years under the guidance of Lewis. If key players can stay healthy, the Bengals should be in the mix to make a playoff appearance in 2017.

Bengals | Rex Burkhead may not be back with CIN    Fri Feb 24, 06:08 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent RB Rex Burkhead probably will not re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals unless he receives a bigger role in the offense, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.

Footballguys view: The Bengals won't have that larger role for him on offense until/unless something happens with Gio Bernard or Jeremy Hill. With this strong RB class in the draft, we can't imagine teams falling all over themselves to sign Burkhead.

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth listening to offers    Mon Feb 20, 10:37 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andrew Whitworth is poised to test the free agent market 'unless blown away by a massive contract offer' from team management. 'At this point in my career it's about the challenge, the excitement of trying to win that Super Bowl,' Whitworth said. 'I want to make sure wherever it is, and hopefully it's in Cincinnati, that team is prepared to try and fight for that trophy.' Whitworth has never been part of a playoff victory in 12 NFL seasons.

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth talking with Bengals    Mon Feb 20, 03:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth has been in talks with the Bengals in regards to re-signing. 'Cincinnati has been wonderful and I love it there,' Whitworth said.

Footballguys view: Whitworth may be the best left tackle on the free agent market this offseason -- if he makes it there. At age 35, Whitworth does not have an outstanding skill set but he does get the job done. If the Bengals can't keep him around, we could see a team like the Broncos making a move for the veteran.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert has knack for scoring    Sun Feb 19, 10:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert had five touchdowns in eight games in 2016, and he has 18 touchdowns in 21 games over the last two seasons combined.

Footballguys view: Too bad he doesn't have a knack for staying healthy. Everyone under the sun knows Eifert is super talented, but he has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. In fact, Eifert has been limited to only 22 games over the last three years. If healthy, Eifert is a TE1 set-it-and-forget-it starter for fantasy owners.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard rehab update    Sun Feb 19, 11:16 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) is making solid progress in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and could avoid landing on the PUP list, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. However, Hobson believes there is still a possibility that he could miss the first game or two of the 2017 regular season.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about Bernard's availability as the season gets closer. He should be very limited during training camp, but Bernard's workload should ramp up near the end of August. How he responds to that will determine how soon he can be ready to return.

Bengals | AJ McCarron the best QB trade target?    Sat Feb 18, 10:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is a better trade target than New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to one NFL executive. 'If I had to choose one, I would go after McCarron,' the executive said. 'Ideally, you get him for a late second- or early third-round pick.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick in 2014, McCarron has been patiently waiting and developing behind starter Andy Dalton. In seven appearances (all in 2015), McCarron has six touchdowns and only two interceptions. He worked in a pro style offense during his college career at Alabama, and he's known as a cocky Alpha male who can be a fiery leader. McCarron does struggle with pressure, but when settled down he's not afraid to make tough throws.
