Titans | Marcus Mariota would start for Titans    Tue Mar 24, 01:01 PM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is a realistic option for the Tennessee Titans with the second overall selection in this year's NFL Draft, and head coach Ken Whisenhunt is impressed enough with Mariota that he would feel confident with him as the team's starting quarterback over QB Zach Mettenberger right off the bat in 2015. 'If we pick him at No. 2, you definitely think he can be the Day 1 starter,' Whisenhunt said. 'He was impressive. ... Just the short time we spent with him on the board, he was very good.' Whisenhunt dismissed the notion that he needs a pocket-based quarterback in his offense to succeed. Whisenhunt could also be trying to generate interest in the No. 2 pick if the Titans would want to trade out of it.

Footballguys view: The Titans continue to promote the fact they're interested in a quarterback at 2nd overall. However, we still get the feeling they're (wisely) putting that notion out there to see if some team will trade up in the draft. They could certainly use Mariota, because if they don't draft him then we'll see Zach Mettenberger as their starter.

Titans | Jameis Winston to visit Tennessee    Thu Mar 19, 09:55 PM

Former Florida State QB Jameis Winston will visit the Tennessee Titans and have a private workout with the team sometime around March 31.

Footballguys view: The Titans are taking a look here, but even with the second-overall pick Winston will be gone. It's the worst kept secret in the league that the Buccaneers have zeroed in on Winston as the first pick.

Titans | Byron Stingily agrees to terms    Thu Mar 19, 03:22 PM

Free-agent OT Byron Stingily (Titans) agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans Thursday, March 19, on a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Stingily will return to the team for which he has started 9 (out of 20) games in four seasons. Eight of those starts were at right tackle and he could be in line for that spot this year with the departure of Michael Oher.

Titans | Trae Waynes to work out    Wed Mar 18, 03:29 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes said he is scheduled to have a private workout with the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best cornerback in this draft. He's got the length at 6'1" to hang with taller receivers on downfield routes. Waynes does a good job of re-routing his man, and he's got the recovery speed to make up ground in a hurry.

Titans | Justin Blalock visits    Tue Mar 17, 09:29 AM

Free-agent OG Justin Blalock (Falcons) recently visited with the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: Blalock spent eight seasons as the left guard for the Falcons, missing just three games during that time. He's not a fantastic option as his play has slipped a bit recently, but Blalock would be a decent addition to the Titans offensive line.

Titans | Tennessee will host rookie QBs    Mon Mar 16, 05:41 PM

Former Florida State QB Jameis Winston and former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will have in-house visits with the Tennessee Titans, although specific dates have not been set yet.

Footballguys view: We don't believe the Titans are that interested in rookie quarterbacks, but they want the teams behind them in the draft to think they are. We'll see if a team like the Eagles can make the jump in the first round.

Titans | Perrish Cox signs with Tennessee    Sat Mar 14, 04:33 PM

Free-agent CB Perrish Cox (49ers) signed with the Tennessee Titans Saturday, March 14.

Footballguys view: Cox has turned into a pretty good corner, and he picked off five passes for the 49ers last season. His addition will move Blidi Wreh-Wilson to a slot corner in nickel packages.

Titans | Tennessee fortifies defense with two    Fri Mar 13, 08:35 AM

Free-agent LB Brian Orakpo (Redskins) and DE Derrick Morgan (Titans) were signed by the Tennessee Titans to undisclosed deals Friday, March 13.

Footballguys view: Two strong additions to the defense here. Orakpo needed a fresh start after an injury-riddled career in Washington. He had torn pectoral muscles for two of the past three seasons, but when healthy Orakpo can get about 10 sacks per year. Morgan began his career as a DE in the Titans 4-3 defense, but last year he looked good at outside linebacker as the team switched to a 3-4.

Free-agent CB Perrish Cox (49ers) is scheduled to visit the Tennessee Titans Friday, March 13, according to a source.

Titans | Da'Norris Searcy agrees    Tue Mar 10, 05:01 PM

Free-agent SS Da'Norris Searcy (Bills) agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal with the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, March 10. The deal includes $10.5 million in guarantees.

Footballguys view: Searcy takes the place of Bernard Pollard on the defense. Pollard was released earlier this year, and now Searcy will be roaming on defense. He plays close to the line of scrimmage, and Searcy is known as an intimidator.

Titans | Interested in Brian Orakpo    Tue Mar 10, 01:13 PM

Washington Redskins impending free-agent LB Brian Orakpo is drawing interest from the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: Orakpo is a talented pass-rusher who has been drawing a lot of interest on the open market. Lack of durability is a major concern for Orakpo, and that should be factored into the next contract he gets.

Titans | Harry Douglas agrees with Tennessee    Tue Mar 10, 01:07 PM

Free-agent WR Harry Douglas (Falcons) agreed to a three-year deal with the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, March 10.

Footballguys view: Going to Tennessee isn't exactly going to boost his fantasy stock. Douglas will be the team's replacement for Nate Washington. He'll serve as the Titans WR3 behind Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright.

Titans | Tennessee in mix for Harry Douglas    Tue Mar 10, 01:53 AM

Titans | Anthony Fasano to visit Nashville    Tue Mar 10, 01:52 AM

The Tennessee Titans are expected to host free-agent TE Anthony Fasano (Chiefs) Tuesday, March 10, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Fasano is a decent blocker and receiver at the tight end position. The Titans are looking for TE help behind Delanie Walker, and Fasano could be a nice fit.

Titans | Remain interested in Derrick Morgan    Mon Mar 9, 03:13 AM

Free-agent DL Derrick Morgan (Titans) is still drawing interest from the Tennessee Titans. The club is letting him get a value of what he is worth during the three-day negotiating window with other teams.

Footballguys view: The Titans would be wise to wrap up Morgan with a new long-term deal. Morgan worked well in his first year playing in a 3-4 defense. He finished last year with seven sacks, and Morgan could have a better total this year.

Titans | Jay Cutler headed to Nashville?    Sat Mar 7, 12:47 AM

If the Chicago Bears decide to try and trade QB Jay Cutler, one NFL source said Friday, March 8, that the Tennessee Titans are the only realistic destination in terms of a trade. If Cutler is on the roster Thursday, March 12, a $10 million guarantee for 2016 kicks in.

Footballguys view: We could see that. The Titans can't move into 2015 with Zach Mettenberger as their starter, can they? Cutler could go back to Tennessee where he played college football at Vanderbilt, and try to make the Titans better. On March 12th a portion of his 2016 salary will become guaranteed with the Bears. We have a feeling a deal gets done before then.

Titans | Harry Douglas visits Tennessee    Thu Mar 5, 12:31 PM

Free-agent WR Harry Douglas (Falcons) visited with the Tennessee Titans Thursday, March 5.

Titans | Make two roster moves    Tue Mar 3, 05:37 PM

Free-agent LB Jonathan Massaquoi (Falcons) was claimed by the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, March 3. The Titans also officially released SS Bernard Pollard.

Footballguys view: Massaquoi needed a fresh start after falling out of favor with the Falcons. Effort and motivation are question marks, and Massaquoi needs to prove that he can be a decent pass-rusher when given the opportunity.

Titans | Bernard Pollard to be cut    Mon Mar 2, 07:22 PM

Tennessee Titans SS Bernard Pollard has been informed that he will be released, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Footballguys view: The Titans are changing things up on defense, so this news isn't a shocker. Pollard asked the Titans to release him last month. He was scheduled to make $3.1 million in 2015.

Titans | May show interest in James Harrison    Sun Mar 1, 12:46 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent LB James Harrison could receive interest from the Tennessee Titans since they added assistant head coach/defense Dick LeBeau this offseason.

Footballguys view: The move would make a lot of sense for both sides. Harrison is not the player he used to be, but he could work well as a part-time pass-rusher for the Titans.

Titans | James Casey will visit Tennessee    Thu Feb 26, 07:18 AM

Free-agent TE James Casey (Eagles) has a visit planned with the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: The Titans took a chance on Taylor Thompson in the draft a few years ago, and that hasn't worked out. They have Delanie Walker as their top tight end, but could certainly use depth at the position. Casey is a versatile player who has never played up to his full potential. He'd be a decent backup for the Titans.

Titans | Haven't committed to Zach Mettenberger    Thu Feb 19, 03:04 AM

Tennessee Titans QB Zach Mettenberger has the backing of the coaching staff, but they have not committed to him as the starter for 2015. General manager Ruston Webster said the team will fully consider QB Jameis Winston or QB Marcus Mariota.

Footballguys view: This conflicts earlier reports coming out of Tennessee. The Titans don't want to say there's no interest in a QB in case there's a team behind them in the draft that wants to trade up. It's wise for them to play off like they're interested in Winston or Mariota. Plus, they could actually have interest...they need to because Mettenberger is no long-term answer.

Titans | Marcus Mariota to meet with Tennessee    Wed Feb 18, 12:03 PM

University of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will meet with the Tennessee Titans at the NFL Draft Combine this week.

Footballguys view: At this time, the Titans seem content to roll forward with Zach Mettenberger as their starter. Meeting with Mariota and working him out could change that plan.

Titans | Jameis Winston will meet with Titans    Wed Feb 18, 12:01 PM

Florida State University QB Jameis Winston will meet with the Tennessee Titans at the NFL Draft Combine this week.

Footballguys view: At this time, the Titans seem content to roll forward with Zach Mettenberger as their starter. Meeting with Winston and working him out could change that plan. Winston is likely going to be off the board when the Titans pick at number two overall.

Free-agent OT Michael Roos (Titans), who was leaning toward retirement in December, is now on the fence toward returning for 2015.

Titans | Zach Mettenberger likely to be starter    Sun Feb 15, 07:20 PM

Early indications are the Tennessee Titans are leaning toward giving QB Zach Mettenberger a chance to prove himself as the full-time starter rather than using the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on Oregon QB Marcus Mariota or Florida State QB Jameis Winston. 'We like Zach, and I think Zach has the tools to play and start in the league,' general manager Ruston Webster said.

Footballguys view: That's an awful lot to put on Mettenberger's plate. We're not big believers in the second-year quarterback. Sure, he's got a rocket arm and he can regularly make off-platform throws because of it. However, (and most importantly) his accuracy and decision making need a ton of work. We'll see if the Titans add a little bit more competition to the mix in some way this offseason.

Titans | Ike Taylor open to Tennessee    Sun Feb 8, 04:14 PM

Free-agent CB Ike Taylor (Steelers) is open to signing with the Tennessee Titans once the free-agency period opens up.

Titans | Michael Oher waived    Thu Feb 5, 04:56 PM

Tennessee Titans OT Michael Oher has been waived Thursday, Feb. 5.

Footballguys view: This move is no shock to anyone. Oher was a disappointment during his playing days with Baltimore, and his time with Tennessee was no different. In 2015, Oher had no guaranteed money coming his way. Oher did have a $4 million cap number in 2015, and $3.35 million would have become guaranteed if Oher was on the Titans' roster Saturday.

Titans | Ray Horton to remain as Tennessee's DC    Tue Feb 3, 09:53 PM

Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton will remain on the staff as the team's defensive coordinator, however assistant head coach/defense Dick LeBeau is expected to run the defense, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Titans | Dick LeBeau joining Tennessee's staff    Tue Feb 3, 09:52 PM

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is expected to be named assistant head coach and he will be in charge of the defense, according to sources. An official announcement is expected later in the week.

Footballguys view: LeBeau is a Hall of Fame player, and has a brilliant mind for constructing aggressive defenses in the pros. He has previous working experience with Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. The two were coordinators for the Steelers when they won Super Bowl XL. The Titans defense needs all the help they can get. In 2014, they ranked 27th in the NFL in yards allowed and 29th in points.

Titans | Jacoby Ford, Clyde Gates signs    Thu Jan 15, 06:23 PM

Tennessee Titans WRs Jacoby Ford and Clyde Gates signed Reserve/Futures contracts Thursday, Jan. 15.

Footballguys view: Both Gates and Ford are speedy receivers who can get open on deep targets. Only fantasy owners in super super deep dynasty leagues should be watching them.

Titans | Top draft QBs not headed to Nashville    Tue Dec 30, 09:17 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota and Florida State QB Jameis Winston will have due diligence done on them by the Tennessee Titans, but the Titans are unlikely to draft a quarterback with the second overall pick.

Footballguys view: If that's the case, then it could be a colossal mistake by the Titans. Sure, they drafted Zach Mettenberger with a sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, but he's nowhere near what a franchise quarterback needs to be. Mettenberger has a rocket arm, but his accuracy and decision making needs a ton of work.

Titans | Eight signed to futures deals    Mon Dec 29, 07:34 PM

The Tennessee Titans re-signed CB Ri'Shard Anderson, LB Nate Askew, OG Justin McCray, OT William Poehls, RB Lache Seastrunk, LB Yawin Smallwood, LB Chaz Sutton and QB Alex Tanney to futures contracts Monday, Dec. 29. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Seastrunk is the player for fantasy owners in super super deep dynasty leagues to monitor. He's an explosive athlete who can fly by defenders. Originally a sixth-round pick by Washington in the 2014 NFL draft, Seastrunk bounced from Washington to Carolina to Tennessee in his first season as a pro.

Titans | Dexter McCluster to be more involved?    Mon Dec 29, 02:32 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Dexter McCluster may be more involved in the offense next year, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Footballguys view: Whisenhunt should have figured that out this year. The team added McCluster earlier this year in free agency, and they handed him a contract worth $9 million over three years. That price tag along should have meant a larger role on offense--especially for a team that is devoid of talent on that side of the ball. Even if McCluster is more involved, we don't see him being much of a fantasy factor in 2015.
