The New York Jets agreed to terms with undrafted free-agent C Kyle Friend (Temple) on an undisclosed deal Sunday, May 1.

Jets | Robby Anderson inks deal with Jets    Sun May 1, 09:42 AM

The New York Jets agreed to terms with undrafted free-agent WR Robby Anderson (Temple) on an undisclosed deal Sunday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Anderson was an interesting player to watch at the East-West Shrine Game earlier this year. He's tall but thin, but Anderson has shown the ability on film to gain separation and make plays at the highest point of the catch. He could stick around on the Jets practice squad if he continues to impress.

Jets | Geno Smith No. 1 QB for now    Sat Apr 30, 10:34 AM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback when offseason workouts begin, but the team is still looking to re-sign free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: There's a chance that another quarterback is brought in to hold the fort while Christian Hackenberg learns the system in which case we would not be shocked if Smith finds himself a free agent by the end of August. He hasn't been consistent enough to stick, though if the Jets don't bring in that veteran, he might get one more chance.

Jets | No talks between Jets, Ryan Fitzpatrick    Fri Apr 29, 09:32 PM

The last time free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets had any meaningful talks was 'weeks ago,' according to one source.

Footballguys view: As we thought. At this point, there's not going to be movement, as the Jets are firmly set in moving on. They certainly aren't going to add more to their offer.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg's footwork improving     Fri Apr 29, 09:22 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg's footwork was much better in private workouts after he worked with quarterback coach Jordan Palmer, according to sources.

Footballguys view: We'll see because it's when he faces live bodies that things go to pot. This is going to take a while and the Jets - as well as their fans - have to be patient.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg should sit first year    Fri Apr 29, 09:01 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg is expected to sit and grow in his first season in the NFL. If free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is re-signed, it could very well only be a one-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: He's going to have to wait because he's absolutely not ready now. As for Fitzpatrick, he has a choice to either retire as threatened or take the only offer he's had in what the Jets put out there. He would be a great fill in for the year, but his pride might be in the way.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg to Jets    Fri Apr 29, 08:45 PM

The New York Jets selected Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg with the No. 51 overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29.

Footballguys view: Someone check on Andrew Garda and Chase Stuart as they may be on a ledge somewhere. It might be a crowded ledge if Twitter is an indication. Hackenberg is scared of shadows after a pounding behind Penn State's inadequate line but the Jets must think they can fix that. He could sit behind Geno Smith or another veteran, but we don't expect it to be Ryan Fitzpatrick who just had his "retire or bust" buff called.

Jets | Darron Lee will see playing time    Fri Apr 29, 03:52 PM

New York Jets LB Darron Lee will receive playing time in the nickel defense in 2016, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Lee will be the backup to LB Erin Henderson at inside linebacker in the base defense.

Footballguys view: The Jets will find a lot of ways to use Lee, and take advantage of his speed and aggressiveness. They run a flexible, hybrid type defense, so we could see Lee in any number of places depending on situation.

Jets | Darron Lee to be inside linebacker    Fri Apr 29, 12:04 PM

New York Jets LB Darron Lee is expected to start at inside linebacker alongside LB David Harris when he's ready.

Footballguys view: He's a bit small for that, but we don't expect him to be clogging the middle. They're going to use his speed and athleticism all over the place. With defenses running hybrid as they do these days, your starting position may not be the same position you're playing the other 60 snaps in a game.

Jets | Darron Lee doesn't need to bulk up    Thu Apr 28, 10:51 PM

New York Jets LB Darron Lee's speed is what the team was looking for, and he doesn't need to add any weight to his 232-pound frame, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The Jets like his speed and flexibility. He's likely a replacement for David Harris as he is near the end of his career. The Jets like his versatility and with the way defense is played these days, the size isn't a big deal.

Jets | New York selects Darron Lee    Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM

The New York Jets selected Ohio State LB Darron Lee with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: A quick, sideline-to-sideline linebacker who can play three downs. The Jets don't want him to add muscle, so we'll have to see how Todd Bowles makes up for a lack of size.

Jets | Trading up possible for Jets    Thu Apr 28, 09:40 PM

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has been calling other teams because they are looking to trade up in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft.

Jets | New York GM likes Hackenberg    Thu Apr 28, 07:50 PM

Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg has drawn the admiration of New York general manager Mike Maccagnan. The Jets aren't likely to take Hackenberg with their first-round pick, but he could be an option for them in the second round.

Footballguys view: The Jets will consider sitting him a year, improving the offensive line and leaning on the running game. It will take Hackenberg a year or so, but the danger is that he has been broken by bad offensive line play for two years. The Jets seem to be thinking defense in the first though, so Hackenberg could be aan option on day two.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick may not play     Thu Apr 28, 04:30 PM

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has told people he would rather not play football this season than play for the New York Jets under their latest contract offer.

Footballguys view: Well he'd better get his Lazy-Boy ready because nobody else has come knocking. Fitzpatrick has seen no interest even from the QB-desperate Broncos. We think the Jets might raise their offer from the reported $7 million to maybe $10, but it's clear Fitzpatrick wants more since nobody else is biting. The Jets seem Ok moving on without him, relying on a good defense, a solid run game and two very nice wide receivers.

Jets | Kamalei Correa has Jets interest    Wed Apr 27, 01:54 PM

Boise State LB Kamalei Correa is a player drawing the interest of the New York Jets as an edge rusher, but New York may have to wait until the second round of the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Correa could get pushed up the board this year because of the shortage of edge rushing prospects with upside. He wasn't that productive at Boise State, but there is more to unlock with development in the pros.

Jets | Gang Green cool on Paxton Lynch    Wed Apr 27, 01:48 PM

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch's interest from the New York Jets has cooled, according to sources. Lynch reportedly scored an 18 on the Worderlic test, and there are concerns about his maturity and ability to handle the cerebral nature of the position. The Jets are likely to pass on him at No. 20.

Footballguys view: Lynch has a chance to move up the board because the top two quarterbacks will go 1-2, but if he gets past Cleveland at 8 and Buffalo at 19, the Jets being out might see Lynch fall all the way to Denver at 31 - that is if a team doesn't trade back into the first round for him. Of course, everything we hear this close to the draft should be taken with a grain of salt.

Jets | New York targeting WR?    Wed Apr 27, 12:46 PM

The New York Jets could be targeting a wide receiver with their first-round pick, according to sources. Texas Christian WR Josh Doctson and Notre Dame WR Will Fuller are names to watch.

Footballguys view: Brandon Marshall is in the autumn of his career despite a huge 2015, and 2015 second-round pick Devin Smith tore his ACL last year. Fuller and Doctson are downfield threats who could make this pass offense even more dangerous as long as Ryan Fitzpatrick is brought back.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson trade unlikely    Wed Apr 27, 12:39 PM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson is unlikely to be traded after the team fielded calls and experienced little action.

Footballguys view: Wilkerson is an elite defensive lineman who can play multiple spots along the defensive line. While he'll have to be paid to market value for his services, it's hard to believe teams expect more from a first round pick, even at a discount. This could be to the Jets gain in the long run.

Jets | Sam Bradford not of interest to Jets    Tue Apr 26, 08:39 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will not be pursued by the New York Jets, according to NFL Network's Jeff Darlington.

Footballguys view: The Jets are at an impasse with Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they don't seem to be in any hurry at the QB position. With the 20th pick in the 2016 NFL draft, a QB may be on the team's radar.

Jets | Darrelle Revis has pins removed     Sun Apr 24, 03:09 PM

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis (wrist) had pins removed from his surgically repaired wrist last week. He still has two months of rehabilitation, however, after having a torn ligament repaired March 17.

Footballguys view: Revis will miss offseason practices, but he's still on schedule for the start of the regular season.

Jets | NYJ had interest in top pick    Fri Apr 22, 07:52 PM

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team inquired about the availability of the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft before the Tennessee Titans traded the pick to the Los Angeles Rams.

Footballguys view: That's no surprise. Many teams likely inquired about the pick and were then turned off by the enormous price tag the Rams ended up paying.

Jets | Ryan Clady recovered from knee surgery    Fri Apr 22, 02:37 PM

New York Jets OT Ryan Clady (knee) has been cleared to participate after offseason knee surgery, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. Clady is likely to be used cautiously this offseason, but there are no concerns.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson not being shopped    Fri Apr 22, 01:27 PM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson isn't being actively shopped, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini opined that the Jets are interested in moving Wilkerson.

Footballguys view: This goes against every report about Wilkerson since the franchise tag was put on him. The Jets may just be playing hard to get in this negotiation process.

Jets | NYJ doing due diligence with Brian Hoyer    Fri Apr 22, 01:15 PM

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is receiving some interest from the New York Jets, but Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is doing due diligence on Hoyer.

Footballguys view: Hoyer is being used by the Jets to perhaps soften the stance of free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick. Maccagnan also said talks to retain Fitzpatrick may take some time.

Jets | Sign Luke Marquardt    Wed Apr 20, 06:01 PM

Free-agent OT Luke Marquardt (49ers) signed and undisclosed deal with the New York Jets Wednesday, April 20.

Footballguys view: The Jets are looking to get some depth in the wake of D'Brickashaw Ferguson's retirement, though we don't expect Marquardt to be a huge part of anything beyond depth.

Jets | Brian Hoyer visiting Jets    Tue Apr 19, 09:23 AM

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) will visit the New York Jets Tuesday, April 19.

Footballguys view: Contract discussions are at an impasse with Ryan Fitzpatrick, so the Jets could go in a different direction. Hoyer can start for you, but he's going to disappoint with his decision-making skills....kind of like Fitzpatrick.

Jets | NYJ will meet with Noah Spence    Mon Apr 18, 01:49 PM

Eastern Kentucky LB Noah Spence is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets Wednesday, April 20. It appears that Spence has solidified himself as a mid to late first-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Spence has answered all the tough questions this offseason. Kicked out of the Big 10 and off Ohio State for repeated failed drug tests, Spence got clean and had a standout season for Eastern Kentucky. He seems to have put his past behind him, and Spence could be one of the best pass-rushers in the 2016 NFL draft class.

Jets | Laquon Treadwell meeting with Jets    Mon Apr 18, 12:55 PM

Mississippi WR Laquon Treadwell will meet with the New York Jets Wednesday, April 20. The Jets pick 20th in the first round of the NFL Draft this year.

Footballguys view: Treadwell is a "plus possession" receiver, and his lack of speed may not be as big of a hindrance as some are reporting. No, Treadwell is not a burner but he is fast in and out of his break and he's a fantastic route-runner. Think of DeAndre Hopkins (Texans) when considering a pro comparison for the Ole Miss receiver.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson doesn't show    Mon Apr 18, 12:26 PM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson didn't show up for the start of the team's offseason program Monday, April 18, according to a source. He has yet to sign his $15.7 million franchise tag tender.

Footballguys view: Wilkerson will likely skip the entire offseason program for the second straight season, and he'll play under the tender in 2016 if a long-term deal isn't reached by July 15.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick unlikely to sign soon    Mon Apr 18, 09:26 AM

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) isn't expected to re-sign with the New York Jets before the NFL Draft, barring a significant breakthrough. The draft begins Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: The Jets are playing hard to get here, but so is Fitzpatrick. The crazy money (see Sam Bradford, Eagles) thrown around earlier this offseason seems to have dried up. Fitzpatrick had a strong year last season as the Jets starter, but they will only bring him back for the right price. That price tag is likely to be much less than the $17.5 million annual salary Bradford got from the Eagles.

Jets | NYJ expected to pursue Brian Hoyer    Sun Apr 17, 05:47 PM

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is expected to receive interest from the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Jets are at an impasse with contract negotiations with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick. Hoyer is a similar veteran who could be had on the cheap.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson not expected at workouts    Sun Apr 17, 05:34 PM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) is not expected to report for offseason workouts Monday, April 18.

Footballguys view: Wilkerson is still rehabbing his broken leg and has not signed his franchise tender offer. He's been in the discussion when consider players the Jets could end up trading away. Wilkerson is seeking a long-term deal, and the Jets don't seem like they want to commit.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson in No. 1 pick offer    Fri Apr 15, 11:01 AM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson was part of a serious offer to the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, and the deal was getting close, according to sources. The Los Angeles Rams ended up striking a deal for the pick.

Footballguys view: The Jets want to move up for a QB, but they couldn't outmatch the haul the Rams offered to the Titans. Wilkerson is their franchise-tagged player, but he's on the trade block as the team is showing no interest in signing him to a new long-term deal.

Jets | Paxton Lynch's Jets visit delayed    Thu Apr 14, 05:34 PM

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch was scheduled to visit the New York Jets Thursday, April 14, but that visit has been pushed back to Friday, April 15.

Footballguys view: No worries here. Lynch could be an option for the Jets in the first round....if he's even on the board when they pick (20th overall).

Jets | No progress with Ryan Fitzpatrick    Thu Apr 14, 02:33 PM

The New York Jets haven't made any progress in an attempt to re-sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to owner Woody Johnson. Johnson also said it wasn't imperative that the team bring Fitzpatrick back. 'No, no. I think this is a big team. We've made our statements regarding Ryan Fitzpatrick well-known, and I'll stick with those that we've made,' Johnson said.

Footballguys view: Things are still at an impasse right now between the two sides. With the draft coming up, we could see the team making some moves to position themselves to select a rookie QB. Perhaps that will change things with Fitzpatrick as the Jets seem to be the only team interested in the veteran at this time.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg to meet with Jets    Wed Apr 13, 08:14 PM

Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg is reportedly scheduled to meet with the New York Jets Thursday, April 14.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg has the prototypical size for an NFL quarterback. Measuring in at 6'4" 225 pounds, Hackenberg sees the field well and has the arm strength to fire any pass required in the pros. However, he has little to no feel in the pocket and likes to stare down his primary reads.

Jets | New York Jets to meet with Paxton Lynch    Sun Apr 10, 04:42 PM

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch will meet with the New York Jets on Thursday, April 14, according to a team source.

Footballguys view: The Jets could be considering Lynch with the 20th-overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. He's got a nice size/athleticism combination and the athleticism to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. Lynch doesn't make a lot of mistakes with the football, but he played in a passer-friendly system in college...working primarily out of the shotgun.

Jets | Ryan Clady has two-year deal    Sat Apr 9, 10:27 PM

New York Jets OT Ryan Clady has agreed to a two-year deal worth $6 million in 2016, including $3 million guaranteed, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. The Jets hold an option for 2017 worth $10 million, and that amount can increase to $13 million based on 2016 playing time.

Footballguys view: Clady has good upside as a starter if he's healthy. He's only played in 18 games over the last three years, so durability has been a major problem.

Denver Broncos OT Ryan Clady was acquired by the New York Jets Saturday, April 9, in exchange for a fifth-round pick, according to sources. The Broncos also threw a seventh-round pick in the deal.

Footballguys view: The Jets needed to do something with D'Brickashaw Fergurson's surprise retirement. Clady has only played in 18 games over the last three years, but if healthy he could get back to his Pro Bowl level of play.

Jets | D'Brickashaw Ferguson to retire    Fri Apr 8, 09:26 AM

New York Jets OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson will reportedly retire Friday, April 8, after 10 seasons with the Jets.

Footballguys view: The Jets wanted Ferguson to take a pay cut, but he instead chose to retire. This move should allow the team to sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, but it leaves them scrambling for a blind-side protector. Reporters have suggested the team may be interested in trading for Ryan Clady (Broncos) to take Ferguson's spot.
