Jets | No pressure for Geno Smith?    Sat Jul 4, 09:04 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith said he doesn't feel any pressure heading into training camp. 'I feel like we have a lot of room for improvement, but I love the way we're working and competing,' Smith said. 'To have guys around me that are so, so good, it takes all the pressure off of me.'

Footballguys view: Smith shouldn't feel any pressure because he is still slated to start despite playing among the worst ball of any QB in the league the last two years. With Brandon Marshall and Chan Gailey, Smith will be out of excuses if he can't get it together this year. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had his best years with Gailey in Buffalo, is waiting in the wings if Smith falters.

Jets | Sheldon Richardson suspended four games    Thu Jul 2, 02:22 PM

New York Jets DT Sheldon Richardson has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on substances of abuse.

Footballguys view: Richardson has been a force on the Jets defensive line, and he would be more missed in September if the team didn't have Leonard Williams fall to them at #6. The Cleveland, Philadelphia, Miami, and Indianapolis offensive lines will still have their hands full in the first four weeks of the season.

Jets | Geno Smith to work out with teammates    Thu Jul 2, 01:14 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith said he will be working out with most of the offensive skill players in Chicago during the two weeks before the start of training camp. Smith said he expects to be the only quarterback at the workouts but that the other quarterbacks are welcome to attend.

Jets | No vacation for Geno Smith     Wed Jul 1, 10:00 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith said he is already focusing on preparing his body and mind for the regular season, and the next step is to work out with WR Brandon Marshall.

Footballguys view: Smith has the aggressive downfield throwing mindset that should work in new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's offense, and Marshall, Eric Decker, and Jace Amaro will give him a great set of big targets. The Jets offense should be more viable than last year, even if Ryan Fitzpatrick (who had his best success with Gailey in Buffalo) has to take over at some point.

Jets | Vote of confidence for Geno Smith    Tue Jun 30, 02:42 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is improving year-by-year and has what it takes to be the quarterback of the future for the Jets, according to ESPN's Ron Jaworski. Jaworski said he has seen growth and improvement in Smith each year and that he just needs to perform on a consistent basis.

Footballguys view: Smith received a vote of confidence from the coaching staff earlier this year when OC Chan Gailey proclaimed that Smith was the starter. He finished last year with a bang (358 yards, three touchdowns), and Smith is hoping to carry that momentum over to this year. Gailey's spread concepts will help Smith look better, but he's nothing more than a low-end QB2 or QB3 for fantasy owners in 2015.

Jets | Brandon Marshall rejuvenated?    Mon Jun 29, 05:24 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall has been a positive influence since joining the Jets this offseason. Marshall has shown his athletic ability that has given him success in previous seasons and he has been a good teammate in the locker room as well. Additionally, Marshall has connections with new head coach Todd Bowles, who was part of the Dolphins' coaching staff when Marshall played in Miami.

Footballguys view: Marshall is on yet another team with the expectations of being the top receiver. He should provide Geno Smith with a quality veteran target in 2015, and fantasy owners should consider Marshall around where they always do. He's a WR2 with WR1 upside in certain matchups.

Jets | Devin Smith struggling to adjust    Sat Jun 27, 10:48 PM

New York Jets WR Devin Smith struggled to adjust to the multiple spots and routes he had to learn to run during offseason workouts, according to wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell.

Footballguys view: This isn't a huge shock, though the Jets are likely disappointed since they were thinking he might steal targets from Jeremy Kerley. This is why we don't bet on certain rookie wide receivers in fantasy football though - the learning curve is very steep even for the best of them. Right now we see Smith as no better than a WR6 and he's going undrafted according to recent ADP data.

Jets | TE Amaro not standing out    Sat Jun 27, 04:08 PM

Rich Cimini, from ESPN.com, reports that tight end Jace Amaro is not a player who has stood out with special qualities in practice. Cimini predicts that Amaro will get fewer than 60 catches in 2015.

Footballguys view: Amaro is your classic move tight end, but he's not a seam-ripper who flashes on film with incredible athleticism. Chan Gailey's offense should be able to use Amaro in the right way, but fantasy owners should only look at him as a low-end TE2.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley to return punts?    Sat Jun 27, 03:00 PM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley is the favorite to be the punt returner for the Jets this season, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Kerley's receptions and receiving yards have dropped each of the last three seasons. With Brandon Marshall added to the passing game this offseason, Kerley's numbers will continue to be low. His main impact should come as a return man.

Jets | Chris Ivory leads backfield    Wed Jun 24, 10:35 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is listed as the starting running back entering training camp, according to beat writer Rich Cimini's unofficial depth chart. RB Bilal Powell is the primary backup, and RB Zac Stacy is listed as the third running back. RB Stevan Ridley (knee) could figure in eventually, but he's expected to be limited at the start of camp.

Footballguys view: We were all expecting Ivory to be the top guy...especially with Ridley banged up. What's interesting to note is that Stacy is third on the depth chart. We'll see if he can climb ahead of Powell when training camp starts.

Jets | Stevan Ridley could start on PUP    Sat Jun 20, 01:41 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) may begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues to recover from knee surgery, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ.com.

Footballguys view: If Ridley is not ready for training camp, the odds of him being placed on the PUP to start the season increase. If Week 1 rolls around and Ridley is on the PUP list, then he'll have to miss the first six weeks of the season. Chris Ivory and Zac Stacy are going to compete for the starting job in training camp.

Jets | Eric Decker happy with new role    Fri Jun 19, 09:37 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker has embraced his move to the No. 2 receiver behind WR Brandon Marshall, saying the arrangement 'will create more stress for the defense.'

Footballguys view: Decker is better as a WR2...he was with the Broncos behind Demaryius Thomas, and he'll be better opposite Brandon Marshall with the Jets. He'll see more single coverage, and he's got the ability to move the chains. We trust that OC Chan Gailey will be able to craft an offense that is good for QB Geno Smith. That should have a trickle down affect with Decker and the rest of the passing game.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld placed on IR    Wed Jun 17, 05:14 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, June 17, after being waived/injured Monday, June 15.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld's brief career in the NFL is likely over at this time. He wasn't a lock to make the final roster even if he was healthy, and a comeback may prove difficult.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld waived with settlement    Tue Jun 16, 12:21 AM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was waived/injured Monday, June 15, after suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during organized team activities (OTAs). The team signed TE Steve Maneri to take his roster spot.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld's career in the NFL is likely over. Maneri is merely a blocking tight end with no fantasy value.

Jets | Make two roster moves    Mon Jun 15, 05:49 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was waived/injured Monday, June 15, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Free-agent TE Steve Maneri (Patriots) was subsequently signed to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: Remember when Sudfeld was a sleeper to some? Yeah, those days are over. The third-year UDFA's career is likely over. Maneri is a blocking tight end who will struggle to make the final roster.

Jets | Stevan Ridley's camp status uncertain    Sun Jun 14, 09:39 AM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is not sure if he will be able to fully participate at the start of training camp. Ridley is he does not know if he will be 100% when camp starts and will not rush his rehab.

Footballguys view: The Jets should just take it easy on Ridley. They could put him on the PUP list to start camp, and they could activate him whenever he's ready. The plan is to have him near full strength by the time Week 1 of the regular season rolls around.

Jets | Geno Smith focused on improving    Sun Jun 14, 08:51 AM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is staying focused during organized team activities in the wake of comments made by OG Willie Colon that Smith 'can't crash the green-and-white Porsche in Florham Park.' Smith responded, "I think we all have to pull together and we all have to do our job," Smith said before a sharp practice on the second day of minicamp. 'That's the key thing. What (Colon) said was that we need to be on top our game. I need to be on top of my game . . . and I believe that that's true. What he said in that regard wasn't wrong,' said Smith.

Footballguys view: Smith ended the 2014 season on a high note with a 358-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Dolphins in Week 17. He's looking to carry that momentum over to this season. Working under new OC Chan Gailey, we're curious to see how much Smith can improve in 2015.

Jets | Brandon Marshall picked Geno Smith    Fri Jun 12, 10:23 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall picked the Jets as his favored landing spot during free agency because of how impressed he was with QB Geno Smith. 'I was really shocked at the intelligence, how smart he was,' Marshall said. 'I had known him as a player from afar. I didn't know his football IQ was so high. He had crazy passion.'

Footballguys view: Marshall learned of the Bears decision to move on from him, so he started calling quarterbacks on teams that could be trade partners. He was eventually traded to the Jets because he wanted to play with Smith. We'll see if Marshall's confidence pays off this season as the team's WR1.

Jets | Stevan Ridley confident     Fri Jun 12, 09:45 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) said his plan is to be a contributor by Week 1. 'I can't predict the future, but for me I've got to be ready for Week 1, and that's the goal,' Ridley said. 'When I do hit the field, I'm making an impact.'

Footballguys view: Ridley is currently coming back from ACL/MCL surgery he had about six months ago. There's no guarantee he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Putting Ridley on the PUP list to start the season is a distinct possibility.

Jets | Chris Ivory atop the depth chart    Fri Jun 12, 09:39 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is atop the depth chart for now, according to head coach Todd Bowles. 'There's Ivory, there's (Bilal) Powell,' Bowles said. '(Daryl) Richardson has been here, (Stevan) Ridley is not practicing, and (Zac) Stacy just got here. So, as Stacy gets to know his (assignments), it's Ivory, Powell, Richardson, Stacy, and of course Ridley isn't playing right now.'

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Ivory is a talented runner who can punish opposing defenses between the tackles. He can also break off big runs from time to time. He could be a value pick at RB41 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. The Jets are going to have a balanced and creative offense under new OC Chan Gailey. If healthy, it wouldn't be a shock to see Ivory finish the season as a top-30 fantasy running back.

Free-agent Evan Mathis (Eagles) has received some interest from the New York Jets, but the Jets likely will not sign Mathis this offseason.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld injured    Thu Jun 11, 06:41 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) injured his knee during minicamp Wednesday, June 10, on a collision with SS Calvin Pryor. Head coach Todd Bowles said he fears the injury may not be minor. Sudfeld underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld has been a disappointment since he burst onto the scene ever-so-briefly with the Patriots. Buried behind Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland, he's not likely to get many reps. If he can get healthy again, he still won't amount to much on this Jets team and can be ignored in fantasy.

Jets | NY quarterbacks not impressing HC    Thu Jun 11, 06:24 PM

New York Jets QBs Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty didn't thrill head coach Todd Bowles with their play during minicamp. 'It's been up and down,' Bowles said of Smith's performances. 'He makes good throws, he makes some bad throws. There has to be more consistency for the quarterbacks overall.'

Footballguys view: It's one thing to say that about Bryce Petty (raw) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (himself) but Geno Smith cannot have 'inconsistent' used to label him. He needs to be on point if Smith wants to prove himself. He may have the starting job (per OC Chan Gailey) now but he's walking a very thin tightrope. From a fantasy standpoint, we'd avoid the Jets quarterbacks.

Jets | Devin Smith absent for all of minicamp    Thu Jun 11, 06:15 PM

New York Jets rookie WR Devin Smith (personal) missed all of minicamp with an excused absence. It was previously reported that Smith is an expectant father.

Footballguys view: Smith is going to have to fight for targets in a tight receiving corps. The rookie will start out behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, but likely also behind Jeremy Kerley until he catches up. With those three guys--plus Jace Amaro vying for attention--plus an uncertain quarterback situation, we'd avoid Smith in redraft leagues save as a very late-round flier.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld dealing with injury    Thu Jun 11, 12:52 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, June 11, because of a knee injury. Head coach Todd Bowles said Sudfeld may be dealing with a serious injury and that he will undergo tests on the knee.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a hot commodity as an undrafted rookie with the Patriots in 2013, but he failed to pay off for anyone who grabbed him. He's behind Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland and mired in an offense with players like Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker as well. Sudfeld isn't helping himself by being hurt and his role in the offense, limited already, could dwindle even further.

Jets | Brandon Marshall sitting out    Thu Jun 11, 10:51 AM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (toe) is out of practice Thursday, June 11.

Footballguys view: Marshall is currently going as a WR2 (around the fourth round) and part of that is the quarterback situation with the Jets. How good will Geno Smith be and how will that impact Marshall's numbers? Do remember though that Marshall has had a 1,000-yard season for every year he has played save his rookie year and in 2014 when he was hurt. He could pass that mark this year for the Jets as their top wideout.

Jets | Brandon Marshall leaves practice    Wed Jun 10, 05:40 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (toe) left minicamp early Wednesday, June 10, with a stubbed toe.

Footballguys view: This seems like a minor injury. Don't get too worried about it unless we hear differently in the near future.

Jets | Geno Smith rebounds at minicamp    Wed Jun 10, 05:36 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith had a better practice at minicamp Wednesday, June 10, than he did Tuesday, June 9, when he threw three interceptions. Smith saw the majority of first-team repetitions and did not throw any interceptions this time around.

Footballguys view: There are going to be good days and bad days for Smith as he learns a new offense under OC Chan Gailey. We believe in Gailey's ability to get the most out of the quarterbacks under him, so don't be surprised if Smith puts together a couple of games like he did in Week 17 last year against the Dolphins. In that game, Smith had 358 yards passing and three touchdowns. He wants to carry that momentum over to this season under the guidance of Gailey.

Jets | Jace Amaro still not practicing    Wed Jun 10, 02:08 PM

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro (back) is not participating in practice Wednesday, June 10.

Footballguys view: Amaro needs to get healthy so he can get acclimated to the new Chan Gailey offense. There will be plenty of spread concepts in Gailey's system, so Amaro could take a big leap forward in production this season. Watch his progress (and health) closely in training camp. He's an intriguing sleeper tight end to monitor.

Jets | Geno Smith to work out with teammates    Wed Jun 10, 12:51 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is scheduled to work out with the running backs, wide receivers and tight ends for a week at some point before training camp. WR Brandon Marshall will be hosting the workouts in Chicago.

Footballguys view: Smith has been putting in extra time this offseason to build chemistry with guys like Marshall. The Jets will be implementing spread concepts under new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, and this should work to Smith's strengths as a passer.

Jets | Devin Smith not at minicamp    Tue Jun 9, 03:57 PM

New York Jets WR Devin Smith (personal) was not present at minicamp Tuesday, June 9, as he is an expectant father.

Footballguys view: Congratulations to Smith and his family! The rookie from Ohio State has incredible deep speed and will be able to take the top off the defense consistently. He's competing for targets in the Jets offense behind Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley.

Jets | Geno Smith struggles    Tue Jun 9, 03:18 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith threw three interceptions during minicamp Tuesday, June 9, including two in the red zone.

Footballguys view: This is not great news, but it's minicamp and Smith is learning a different system under new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Let's give him some time to see if he can improve.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick in familiar situation    Wed Jun 3, 11:16 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has entered the offseason as a backup as a member of the St. Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans before eventually becoming each team's starting quarterback. Fitzpatrick is now recovered from a broken leg suffered in December of 2014, and he is currently battling for the starting job with Jets QB Geno Smith. Fitzpatrick looked crisp in practice Wednesday, June 3, according to The Associated Press' Dennis Waszak Jr.

Footballguys view: We're not looking for Fitzpatrick to do much but hold a clipboard to start the season. Smith is the starter, and until he struggles (if/when) he'll keep Fitzpatrick on the bench.

Jets | Jace Amaro exits practice    Wed Jun 3, 11:29 AM

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro (back) left practice Wednesday, June 3. He is being examined in the locker room.

Footballguys view: No word on the severity yet. Amaro has the ability to be a dangerous move tight end in this league. The Jets are going to be a run-heavy offense, but Amaro (if healthy) would be a nice waiver wire TE for fantasy owners to keep an eye on this offseason. Stay tuned.

Jets | Jonathon Rumph signed    Mon Jun 1, 04:59 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Jonathon Rumph (Georgia) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the New York Jets Monday, June 1.

Footballguys view: Rumph was a big target for the Bulldogs, measuring in at 6'4" 222 pounds. He's not a fast receiver (4.7 40-yard dash), but Rumph can use his size to box out smaller defenders. Rumph battled various nagging injuries during his college career and never quite seemed to reach his full potential. He'll battle for a spot on the practice squad.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley likely to play in slot    Sat May 30, 02:48 PM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley is expected to be the primary slot receiver for the Jets this season, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.

Footballguys view: When the Jets traded for Brandon Marshall it changed the depth chart on the team. Kerley has a good skill set to be a slot receiver, but his fantasy value will be nearly non-existent in most leagues. The Jets are going to use a run-heavy offense this year, and the passing game will primarily involve Marshall, Eric Decker (perhaps even tight end Jace Amaro).

Jets | Brandon Marshall reworks deal    Sat May 30, 10:24 AM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall has agreed to restructure his contract, which will give him more money over the next three years, according to a source. Marshall was originally scheduled to make $24.3 million over the next three years but will now make $26 million.

Footballguys view: Marshall is now going to make a fully guaranteed $9 million in 2015. The veteran wide receiver gets another fresh start, this time with the Jets. He's been living with quarterback Geno Smith, and perhaps that is going to help them build strong chemistry on the field. Marshall should be the top wide receiver for fantasy owners to nab from the Jets roster, but his presence should also open things up for Eric Decker as well.

Jets | Brandon Marshall feeling good    Fri May 29, 06:11 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he is feeling good after he dealt with various injuries during the 2014 season. 'I really feel like I'm better now than I've ever been,' Marshall said. 'There's the physical part, feeling healthy. ... Now I'm starting to see the game differently being older and having a lot of experience. Having all of that working for me and going against those guys every single day, I'm excited about doing my job this year.'

Footballguys view: Marshall can be a productive receiver in Chan Gailey's offense. We'll see what kind of chemistry he can build with starting quarterback Geno Smith. He's going off the board in the early fifth round as a low-end WR2 for fantasy owners in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Matt Simms released    Thu May 28, 05:04 PM

New York Jets QB Matt Simms was released Thursday, May 28.

Footballguys view: No shocker here, despite what his dad said about him not getting a chance. Simms is a good teammate by all accounts and could end up as a decent backup, but he's no longer an option for the Jets. He might land somewhere as a backup.

Jets | Geno Smith to see competition    Thu May 28, 08:29 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Geno Smith is currently working as the starter, according to Jets head coach Todd Bowles Wednesday, May 27. However, Smith will face competition during the summer. The job is Smith's to lose, per Bowles.

Footballguys view: It's Smith's job to lose and even with the 'vote of confidence' of being named camp starter, the third-year quarterback is standing on a very thin ledge. His only real serious competition is a 32-year old journeyman coming off a middling season, so if he can't blow the doors off Fitzgerald, the Jets should have their final answer to the question, "Is Geno our franchise quarterback?"

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick practices    Wed May 27, 10:35 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (leg) participated in team drills during organized team activities Wednesday, May 27. Fitzpatrick worked with the second-team offense during practice.

Footballguys view: Geno Smith is the starter for the Jets this year. Fitzpatrick gives the team valuable veteran depth. If Smith struggles, we could see the Jets turn to Fitzpatrick at some point during the year.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley not present at OTAs    Wed May 27, 04:42 PM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley (personal) missed organized team activities Wednesday, May 27.

Footballguys view: Kerley is going to compete with rookie Devin Smith to be the team's third wide receiver behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker this year. He should be able to find open spaces over the middle where his run-after-the-catch ability can be highlighted. The Jets are going to be as run-heavy as they possibly can be this season, and that makes Kerley a player fantasy owners should pass on.

Jets | Chris Ivory absent from OTAs    Wed May 27, 04:37 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (personal) was not present at organized team activities Wednesday, May 27.

Footballguys view: The Jets are looking to find their lead back, and Ivory will have to prove himself worthy of the starting job in training camp. He'll compete with Stevan Ridley and Zac Stacy for the top spot with the Jets. Ivory has a good all-purpose skill set, and there's a dash of Marshawn Lynch to his game. We'll see if he can come out on top in this competition. Right now, fantasy owners are taking Ivory off the board at RB36 (8.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Brandon Marshall at his peak?    Wed May 27, 04:31 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he feels like he's better now than he's ever been. 'I feel great, and now I'm starting to see the game differently, being older and having a lot of experience,' Marshall said. 'So having all of that working for me, and going against those guys every single day, I'm excited about doing my job this year.'

Footballguys view: Marshall gets another fresh start in 2015, this time he's looking to produce for the Jets. With Geno Smith already announced as the starting quarterback, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey will craft an offense that best fits what Smith can do. Part of the plan should be to get Marshall as involved as possible. Marshall is going off the board at WR22 (5.01) in 12-team PPR leagues that are drafting right now.

Jets | Dee Milliner competing for roster spot    Tue May 26, 12:37 AM

New York Jets CB Dee Milliner (heel) is still working his way back from an injury but will have a chance to compete for a roster spot, according to defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers.

Footballguys view: The Jets have completely re-worked their secondary this offseason. Milliner was atop the depth chart to begin last year, but this Achilles' injury has now clouded his future. He might be the fourth corner on the depth chart now behind Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine.

Jets | Marcus Gilchrist should be ready for camp    Sun May 24, 09:42 AM

New York Jets FS Marcus Gilchrist (shoulder) is not expected to participate in any of the offseason workouts because of his shoulder injury but should be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: The Jets grabbed Gilchrist in free agency with a four-year, $22 million deal with $8.5 million guaranteed. He'll be the team's centerfielder in 2015, and they'll ask him to roam the secondary looking to make plays on the ball. The shoulder scope is a minor surgery, and Gilchrist should be near 100 percent healthy when training camp rolls around.

Jets | NYJ to have tight end platoon    Thu May 21, 05:50 PM

New York Jets TEs Jeff Cumberland and Jace Amaro will both start this season, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said Cumberland would be lined up in the 'Y' position while Amaro would play the H-back and fullback positions.

Footballguys view: The 'Y' tight end is the more traditional (blocking) role. The 'H' tight end is the guy who will be moved around the field to create mismatches. Amaro has the athleticism to be a weapon in the new Chan Gailey offense. He's going undrafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues, but he's someone who should be on your waiver wire speed dial.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be ready for training camp    Thu May 21, 05:30 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) should be healthy enough for training camp as he continues to recover from knee surgery. Head coach Todd Bowles said Ridley is not ready for team drills, but participated in positional drills.

Footballguys view: Ridley is going to have to wait to prove himself until training camp. The veteran back will have to prove his value over guys like Chris Ivory and Zac Stacy. The Jets should run the ball quite a bit in order to help keep defenses honest for third-year quarterback Geno Smith.

Jets | Will use two tight ends    Thu May 21, 02:58 PM

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles plans to use a package with two tight ends, including TE Jeff Cumberland and TE Jace Amaro. Cumberland will be a traditional tight end and Amaro will line up in a halfback-style position.

Footballguys view: In other words, if you are inclined to take one of the two in fantasy, Amaro is your guy. Cumberland will get some targets, but mostly be a blocker type while Amaro will be more of a 'move' tight end, a position much better suited to fantasy production. Neither is currently being drafted, which makes them ideal free agent acquisitions. That could change this summer, and Amaro in particular could end up a strong TE2, if quarterback Geno Smith can progress this season.
