Jets | Le'Veon Bell could sit out preseason    Sun Aug 18, 01:14 PM

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell hasn't played in the team's first two preseason games, and head coach Adam Gase is noncommital about Bell playing in the third. 'We'll kind of see how next week goes,' Gase said Friday, Aug. 16. 'He's played a lot of football. And I like where he's at right now. I love how he's working. If I feel like there's a need to play him next week, we will. If he has a good week of practice and it's not worth it for us to get him out there, then we won't.'

Footballguys view: We'll see if Bell can get out there for a Jets debut in the preseason. If Bell doesn't play in Week 3 of the preseason (the dress rehearsal for the regular season), then there's little chance of him playing in Week 4 when starters typically rest.

New York Jets LB Avery Williamson (knee) will not return to the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 15, after suffering a knee injury.

Jets | Trumaine Johnson out indefinitely    Sun Aug 11, 02:48 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets CB Trumaine Johnson (hamstring) will be out indefinitely after injuring a hamstring in practice Sunday, Aug. 11. 'Anytime a guy that makes a living running has a hamstring ... we'll see how it goes,' Jets head coach Adam Gase said. 'He's going to have to get a lot of treatment and strengthen it up and we'll get him back as fast as possible.'

Footballguys view: John Brown's Week 1 matchup just got a lot better. The Jets draw Odell Beckham on Monday night in Week 2 in a matchup that will be very difficult with a full speed Johnson.

Jets | Brian Winters week to week    Sun Aug 11, 12:45 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets OG Brian Winters (shoulder) is 'week-to-week' as he recovers from a shoulder injury suffered in the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8, head coach Adam Gase said Sunday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Winters is one of the strengths of the Jets offensive line. They added Ryan Kalil and Kelechi Osemele in the offseason to bolster their interior line, but this will still hurt if Winters is out into the regular season, especially with Ed Oliver on the Week 1 schedule.

New York Jets CB Trumaine Johnson (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury after making an interception in practice Sunday, Aug. 11, and was replaced by CB Kyron Brown on the first-team defense.

Footballguys view: Johnson is the Jets best corner. If this injury is going to affect him into the regular season, it could make John Brown a nice Week 1 WR3/Flex play in the divisional matchup.

The New York Jets signed free-agent PK Taylor Bertolet (Broncos) Sunday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Chandler Catanzaro retired after a rough start to camp and the preseason, so the Jets have been left in the lurch. They are a strong candidate to sign another team's castoff at final cuts.

Jets | Nick Truesdell back with NY Jets    Sat Aug 10, 05:37 PM

Free-agent TE Nick Truesdell (Jets) signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Jets on Saturday, Aug. 10. CB Derrick Jones was waived to make room for him on the roster.

Free-agent PKs Chris Blewitt (Bears) and Blair Walsh (Seahawks) are among several kickers who will try out for the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 10.

Footballguys view: Chandler Catanzaro has had a shaky start to the preseason in addition to a shaky camp, so the Jets have to bring in competition. Jason Myers was highly successful for the Jets last year, but the team let him walk in free agency and sign in Seattle.

Jets | Ty Montgomery set to play hybrid role    Thu Aug 8, 02:35 PM

New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery told the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta that he feels like 'a true hybrid in this offense (under head coach Adam Gase).''It was a surprising deal when he came in here. I was surprised he wasn't signed yet. The fact that we had a shot at him coming here and when we got him signed, the wheels started turning on offense as far as all right, what are we going to do? How are we going to use these guys? What's it going to look like? So, we're experimenting with all that stuff. His versatility and his flexibility and his knowledge ... and he's extremely smart. So, we put a lot on his plate and he's able to play a lot of different roles for us,' Gase said.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is a versatile player as he can line up in the slot as a wide receiver but he can also take handoffs as a running back. The Jets have Le'Veon Bell to be their primary running back, and Bell is a fine receiver out of the backfield too. Montgomery may not get many snaps other than when Bell needs a breather. We'll be interested to see how they use him in the preseason.

Jets | Le'Veon Bell will not play Thursday    Wed Aug 7, 05:13 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (groin) is expected to be back next week, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Jets | Greg Dortch returning punts    Wed Aug 7, 12:36 AM

New York Jets WR Greg Dortch was listed as the starting punt return on the initial depth chart released Monday, Aug. 5. 'He just has a natural feel,' according to head coach Adam Gase. 'He looks like a center fielder getting under that thing. He catches it smooth, he's fearless.'

Jets | Trenton Cannon to return kicks?    Wed Aug 7, 12:33 AM

New York Jets RB Trenton Cannon is listed as the starting kick returner on the initial depth chart released Monday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: The ability to stand out as a return man could keep Cannon on the 53-man roster. The Jets have a cramped RB corps and Cannon is near the end of the depth chart behind guys like Le'Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, Bilal Powell and Eli McGuire.
