Jets | Chris Ivory having great camp    Fri Aug 28, 09:20 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory has had the best camp since landing with the Jets in 2013 and is primed for a career year, in the opinion of ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini. Ivory could see an expansion of his role in the passing game as well as QB Ryan Fitzpatrick throws to his checkdown options.

Footballguys view: We'll see if he can really deliver on the potential we all saw back in the Saints days. We have him as an RB3 and he's tracking at an ADP of the 24th back off the board at the start of the fifth round.

Jets | Josh Johnson signs with NYJ    Thu Aug 27, 09:03 PM

Free-agent QB Josh Johnson (Bengals) has signed with the New York Jets, the team announced Thursday, Aug. 27.

Footballguys view: It's not totally clear what the team is doing, save perhaps being desperate for a person to throw into the meat grinder in the last game or so. He has no fantasy value.

Jets | Two roster moves made    Thu Aug 27, 07:39 PM

Free-agent QB Josh Johnson (Bengals) signed with the New York Jets Thursday, Aug. 29. QB Jake Heaps was subsequently waived.

Footballguys view: Johnson has an interesting skill set for the Chan Gailey system. He's bounced around the league, and is likely just a camp arm for the Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the team's starter with Geno Smith (jaw) on the mend. Behind Fitzpatrick is rookie Bryce Petty.

Jets | Calvin Pace injury not serious?    Thu Aug 27, 04:16 PM

New York Jets LB Calvin Pace (groin) doesn't believe his groin injury is a long-term issue. He's unsure if he'll play Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: As we said earlier, they may just rest him but they need him come Week 1. This is a top ten fantasy defense, but it's not incredibly deep and too many injuries to their thin pass rush is bad.

Jets | Calvin Pace idle Thursday    Thu Aug 27, 02:06 PM

New York Jets LB Calvin Pace (groin) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 27.

Footballguys view: The Jets can ill-afford losing a pass rusher, even one who isn't all that special like Pace. The Jets remain a very good team defense, and should be a solid starter for you most of the season.

Jets | Josh Johnson working out with Jets    Thu Aug 27, 10:18 AM

Free-agent QB Josh Johnson (Bengals) is working out for the New York Jets Thursday, Aug. 27.

Footballguys view: We're not totally seeing what the point is here, with five quarterbacks on the roster right now, including the injured Geno Smith. Johnson is an odd fit behind Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, rookie Bryce Petty and recently signed parachute Matt Flynn. Assume they are just kicking tires here, especially considering how disappointing Johnson has been in other attempts. Nobody here is a safe player to have on your fantasy roster, with Fitzpatrick only weighing in as a QB3 and an emergency start.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley idle Wednesday    Wed Aug 26, 02:41 PM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley (concussion) is out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: Kerley is going through the concussion protocol, and he won't return until he's cleared to practice. Fantasy owners aren't considering Kerley an option this year with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker soaking up most of the targets.

Jets | Chris Ivory primed for big year?    Tue Aug 25, 06:12 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory will play a vital role in the Jets' offense this season. Ivory believes his best is yet to come. 'People haven't seen my full potential,' Ivory said. 'People that actually watch the game, they know my talent and what I'm capable of. Me, within myself, I definitely know what I'm capable of. I'm striving for greatness.'

Footballguys view: With Stevan Ridley still healing, Bilal Powell relatively average and Zac Stacy unimpressive--yes Ivory is the guy they will lean on. We see him as an RB3 to start with, and we don't expect huge numbers from him, but they'll use him to keep the defense honest and he will see more passes this season than he did in 2014.

Jets | Devin Smith expected to miss Week 1    Mon Aug 24, 04:10 PM

New York Jets WR Devin Smith (ribs, lung) is not expected to be ready for Week 1, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Smith was banged up during his time in college at Ohio State, and that injury bug has followed him to the pros. He's a speedy wide receiver who can take the top off the defense, but he's not a savvy route-runner. Smith is limited to being a one-route (and somewhat injury prone) guy right now.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley could be in danger    Sun Aug 23, 06:24 PM

Jets | Jace Amaro on hot seat?    Sun Aug 23, 06:21 PM

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro may be on the hot seat, as he is listed as the third tight end on the official depth chart behind Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis.

Footballguys view: Amaro's development has stalled out despite adding an offensive coordinator this offseason in Chan Gailey who can scheme to his strengths. His dynasty stock and NFL fortunes are looking dim at this moment.

Jets | Matt Flynn has injury    Wed Aug 19, 04:26 PM

New York Jets QB Matt Flynn (ankle) is recovering from an injured ankle and won't be ready to play for another week, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Flynn recently signed a one-year deal with the Jets.

Footballguys view: Flynn is recovering from an injury that bothered him during his brief stint with the Patriots. The veteran has made more than $18 million in his pro career despite only starting seven games during that time. Good work if you can get it. Flynn's roster spot should be safe as the primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Rookie Bryce Petty should stick around as a third-string developmental quarterback.

Jets | Geno Smith could miss first four games    Tue Aug 18, 03:51 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith's (jaw) broken jaw could force him to miss the first four games of the season, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. The Jets have a Week 5 bye, so he could return for Week 6. Maccagnan also said the Jets could add another quarterback in light of Smith's injury.

Footballguys view: We could see the Jets stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick upon Smith's return. Fitzpatrick had the best years of his career working under Jets OC Chan Gailey when the two were in Buffalo. Gailey's system brings out the best in Fitzpatrick, and he may do enough to hold onto the job.

Jets | Bryce Petty being patient    Mon Aug 17, 05:58 PM

New York Jets rookie QB Bryce Petty said he doesn't have a timetable for when he'll be ready to be a professional quarterback. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said Petty has the tools to become a starting NFL quarterback, he just needs to continue to improve mentally and make sure he understands what's going on after the football is snapped. Petty said he is excited and grateful for what he's learned, but at the same time he knows he still has work to do.

Footballguys view: Petty has a lot to learn before he's ready to compete for a starting job in the pros. He put up great numbers in college at Baylor, but the spread system inflated his numbers. Petty needs to learn how to work from under center first and foremost. He then needs to learn how to diagnose plays as he drops back.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson doesn't have tear    Sat Aug 15, 07:00 PM

New York Jets Muhammad Wilkerson (hamstring) doesn't have a tear, according to an MRI done Saturday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: Well that's a relief. However, that doesn't mean the hamstring injury won't hold him out for quite some time. A torn hamstring would have likely ended his season. Without a tear, there's no telling how long Wilkerson will be out.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick efficient Thursday    Fri Aug 14, 12:19 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick started the team's first preseason game against the Detroit Lions Thursday, Aug. 13, despite only one day of practice with the first-team offense. He went 2-for-3 for 16 yards and orchestrated a 10-play, 41-yard drive that ended in a field goal. Head coach Todd Bowles limited Fitzpatrick because he didn't have much time with the starters. 'I thought he did well,' Bowles said of Fitzpatrick. 'He really commanded the offense. He's cool, calm and collected. There was nothing big to brag about, but he did his job.' Fitzpatrick missed a good chunk of the offseason while recovering from a broken leg.
