The New York Jets are sticking to their budget/value system. While they want free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans), they will not 'overpay' for him. The depressed running back market suggests Johnson will fetch $3-4 million per year maximum.

Jets | Chris Johnson visiting    Tue Apr 15, 09:24 AM

The New York Jets are visiting with free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans) Tuesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: This is his likely destination. Johnson would be able to be compete with Chris Ivory for the starting job, and he could give the offense another weapon with speed. We'll see if something comes together.

Jets | Will meet with Calvin Pryor    Mon Apr 14, 02:55 PM

The New York Jets are scheduled to meet with Louisville S Calvin Pryor this week.

Footballguys view: Pryor can roam the field in coverage, but he can also play close to the line of scrimmage and make a big hit. He's a violent hitter who loves to initiate contact. Pryor would give any team an intimidating presence at the free safety position. He's a lock to be a first-round pick. The Jets need all the help in the secondary they can get. Pryor could step in and start from day one.

Jets | Have strong presence at LSU Pro Day    Wed Apr 9, 01:53 PM

New York Jets general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan are attending the Louisiana State Pro Day Wednesday, April 9.

Footballguys view: The Jets added Eric Decker in free agency, but they still need a true number one wide receiver. That player could be Odell Beckham Jr. He's a big-play receiver who can score any time he touches the ball.

Jets | Brandin Cooks to visit    Tue Apr 8, 02:32 PM

The New York Jets will visit with Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks Sunday, April 20.

Footballguys view: Cooks would be a great fit for the Jets in the first round. Even though they added Eric Decker in free agency, they still need help at the position. Cooks reminds some in the scouting community of a young Steve Smith (Ravens). He's not the biggest receiver, but he's fast and feisty.

Jets | Visiting with several CBs    Mon Apr 7, 07:29 PM

The New York Jets have visits scheduled for Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard, Ohio State CB Bradley Roby and Texas Christian CB Jason Verrett.

Jets | Not concerned with Chris Johnson's work ethic    Mon Apr 7, 05:42 PM

The New York Jets are not concerned with free-agent RB Chris Johnson's (Titans) work ethic, and they'd be excited with a running back tandem of Johnson and RB Chris Ivory.

Footballguys view: Johnson has had trouble staying motivated as a pro. The Jets could use a "Thunder and Lightning" approach if Johnson is added. The Titans used this approach successfully early in Johnson's career when he split time with LenDale White.

Jets | Darqueze Dennard to visit    Mon Apr 7, 05:34 PM

Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard said he is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Dennard has the ability to re-route receivers at the line of scrimmage. He's an aggressive player who plays with a physical style. Long speed is a question, but he has the fluidity in his hips to turn and run off of press coverage. The Jets have a need in the secondary even though they added Dimitri Patterson in free agency earlier this year.

Jets | Will meet with C.J. Fiedorowicz    Mon Apr 7, 02:31 PM

The New York Jets are scheduled to meet with Iowa TE C.J. Fiedorowicz later this week.

Footballguys view: Fiedorowicz is a huge tight end with the ability to snuff out defenders as a blocker. He's not a threat to stretch the deep middle seam, but Fiedorowicz can be a red zone target and reliable receiver on underneath routes. The Jets could use a tight end to give Geno Smith (or Michael Vick) a relief valve receiver.

Jets | Will meet with Odell Beckham    Sun Apr 6, 11:28 PM

The New York Jets are scheduled to meet with Louisiana State WR Odell Beckham before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: This would be a great fit for the Jets in the first round of the draft. The Jets added Eric Decker in free agency, but they could use more punch at the wide receiver position. Beckham is a fast receiver with fluid movements and big-play ability after the catch.

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson could be on the roster bubble if the team signs RB Chris Johnson (Titans) this offseason.

Jets | Have not reached out to Chris Johnson    Sat Apr 5, 11:02 AM

New York Jets GM John Idzik has not reached out to free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans) yet, but the team is interested in him at the right price.

Footballguys view: The Jets are looking for help in the backfield. If added, Johnson would compete for the starting job with Chris Ivory. At this time, most consider the Jets frontrunners for Johnson's services.

Jets | Intrigued with Kelvin Benjamin    Thu Apr 3, 07:16 PM

The New York Jets are intrigued with Florida State WR Kelvin Benjamin because he is 6-foot-5. The team is scheduled to meet with Benjamin before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Jets are in the market for more wide receiver help even though they added Eric Decker in free agency. Benjamin has upside as he's a large receiver who can bounce off defenders after the catch. However, his route running is poor at this time and he doesn't use his size to as much of an advantage as he should.

Jets | Brandin Cooks to visit    Thu Apr 3, 05:08 PM

The New York Jets have a pre-draft visit scheduled with Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jets are still looking for wide receiver help. Cooks could be a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft. He's fast and feisty, often drawing comparisons to a young Steve Smith (Ravens). Cooks can get separation in the blink of an eye, and he's deadly after the catch.

New York Jets WR Jacoby Ford said he did not lose any of his 4.28 speed after LisFranc surgery. "I run the exact same [time] or faster. I'm that confident,' Ford said.

Jets | Will bring in Jace Amaro    Tue Apr 1, 12:53 PM

The New York Jets will bring in Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro in the coming weeks for a visit. Jets general manager John Idzik has already attended Amaro's pro day.

Footballguys view: The Jets need to find a quality move tight end, and Amaro could be a target for them in the draft. They have the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. Amaro will be on the board at that time, but he may slide to the early second round. If the Jets like him, then perhaps they could move up in round two in order to secure his services.

Jets | Unlikely to sign DeSean Jackson    Fri Mar 28, 09:12 PM

The New York Jets are not expected to sign free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles), because he does not appear to be a guy general manager John Idzik is looking to sign at this time, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jets should have interest in Jackson. They already added Eric Decker in free agency, but he's best suited as a number two wideout. Jackson would give the team a weapon to stretch the field, and he would be reunited with quarterback Michael Vick.

Jets | Geno Smith in the lead?    Tue Mar 25, 11:51 AM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan indicated that QB Geno Smith will enter offseason practices in the early lead in the quarterback competition between QB Michael Vick, and Smith will work with the first team when practices start next month. However, Ryan isn't ruling out Vick as the Week 1 starter when the season comes. 'It's going to be really interesting to watch that competition unfold. I've said this before -- Geno Smith is going to be hard to beat out,' Ryan said. Ryan also said the team may have personnel packages that include both quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Vick can beat out the second-year player for the starting job. Vick is more athletic and he has a stronger arm than Smith.
