Jets | Quincy Enunwa's surgery goes well    Tue Aug 22, 06:51 PM

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (back) underwent a successful surgery Tuesday, Aug. 22, to repair the bulging disk in his back. He will not play in 2017, but still plans to be around the team and in the community.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick in 2014, Enunwa is set to be a free agent in 2018. This injury will certainly hold back any contract offer Enunwa would get from the Jets...or any other team.

Jets | Matt Forte works with team Tuesday    Tue Aug 22, 03:29 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) participated in team drills Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: Forte missed the team's last preseason game, and his status for Week 1 of the regular season was in question according to head coach Todd Bowles. He'll test out that hamstring in drills but it's still no guarantee that Forte will be ready for action - either now or at the start of the regular season.

Jets | NYJ starting QB to be named next week    Mon Aug 21, 07:00 PM

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg have been competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and head coach Todd Bowles said he will name the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: McCown is the safe veteran, while Hackenberg is the guy who couldn't get on the field as a rookie in 2016. No matter who wins the job, neither is going to be fantasy relevant this year.

Jets | Matt Forte in question for Week 1?    Mon Aug 21, 03:22 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is not guaranteed to be healthy enough to play by Week 1, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Bilal Powell is the top back for the Jets, but Forte will get plenty of work in their RBBC. From a fantasy standpoint, Forte should only be considered a RB4 in 2017.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg gets a pass    Sun Aug 20, 11:51 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg went 2-of-6 for 14 yards against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug. 19, but head coach Todd Bowles put most of the blame for the team's ineptitude on the offensive line.

Jets | Rontez Miles injured Saturday    Sun Aug 20, 09:43 AM

New York Jets FS Rontez Miles (eye, head) suffered an eye laceration during the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19, and was also evaluated for a possible concussion.

Jets | Bilal Powell a bright spot    Sat Aug 19, 10:26 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell had nine carries for 32 yards and two catches for 14 yards against the Detroit Lions in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Powell is set up to be the feature back for this offense if Matt Forte's hamstring remains an issue going into the season, but it's hard to know if he'll perform as well as he did last year with the team taking so many hits to the quality of their offense.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg struggles     Sat Aug 19, 10:00 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg completed two of his six pass attempts for 14 yards in a preseason start against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Jets | Bilal Powell to suit up Saturday    Fri Aug 18, 01:20 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) expected to play against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug. 19, while RB Matt Forte (hamstring) will not.

Footballguys view: Forte's hamstring could give Powell the starting job to open the season. Powell was a solid to strong RB1 when Forte was a non-factor last year, but that was on a Jets team that didn't seem to be playing for next year already.

Jets | Bilal Powell to play vs. Detroit    Thu Aug 17, 06:38 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) will play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: With Forte out Powell has his chance to shine. Given that he's going in the mid 6 to 7th round in fantasy drafts Powell could be a nice acquisition since he should get a lot of dump passes for whichever Jets quarterback wins the job. If Forte continues to be banged up it is going to be a good opportunity for Powell to get more carries as well. Unfortunately this Jets offense is pretty bad, otherwise his ceiling would be better.

Jets | Lorenzo Mauldin aggravates injury    Thu Aug 17, 06:27 PM

New York Jets LB Lorenzo Mauldin (back) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 17, because he aggravated a back injury and will miss the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Jets | Two Jets QBs split snaps    Thu Aug 17, 06:16 PM

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg split snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: There's no reason for anyone but Christian Hackenberg to be starting for the Jets. They're not in contention for Super Bowl, they don't need a ton of wins, they need to find out whether they have a quarterback in Hackenberg. There is also no reason for either Jets quarterback to be on your fantasy team. They are all pretty much equally awful for Fantasy purposes. Avoid at all costs.

Jets | Quincy Enunwa to have surgery soon    Thu Aug 17, 04:19 PM

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) is expected to undergo surgery on his neck sometime next week. Enunwa had hoped to avoid surgery after receiving a second opinion.

Footballguys view: As much as we too were hoping he could avoid surgery we aren't shocked he didnt. he is, after all, a Jets wide receiver, a group of guys that look like they could be snake bit this year. That being said we hope Enunwa heals quickly and comes back to be productive in 2018.

Jets | Matt Forte won't play Saturday    Thu Aug 17, 03:03 PM

New York Jets WRB Matt Forte (hamstring) will not practice Thursday, Aug. 17, and will not be playing in the Jets' second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Maybe they're just preserving Forte for the season, but we're wondering if this is truly going to be Bilal Powell's year to shine. Currently going off the board as the No. 25 back in drafts, Powell is a nice dual threat who can run the rock as well as catch it.

Jets | Fully practice for Bilal Powell    Wed Aug 16, 07:06 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: Powell is back in action and the Jets will use him in a RBBC with Matt Forte. That committee limits the fantasy values of both backs. Powell is RB25 (5.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Matt Forte remains limited    Wed Aug 16, 06:58 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) was limited to individual drills during practice Wednesday, Aug. 16, and is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: There's no need to get Forte out there when he's not at full strength. The seasoned veteran doesn't need a ton of reps in the preseason. Forte is backing up Bilal Powell but will earn snaps in a RBBC. Forte is RB49 (11.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Lucky Whitehead out 4-6 weeks    Wed Aug 16, 10:19 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Lucky Whitehead (foot) is expected to miss four to six weeks, according to a source. He'll receive a second opinion before determining if surgery on his broken foot is necessary.

Footballguys view: Whitehead was added by the Jets after the Cowboys were quick to release him in a mistaken identity case. Now, with a broken foot, Whitehead is unlikely to make the 53-man roster.

Jets | Bilal Powell participates in practice    Tue Aug 15, 04:43 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) participated in 7-on-7 drills Tuesday, Aug. 15, after being absent from practice for about a week and a half.

Footballguys view: Powell is back in action after missing some time, and so long as there are no setbacks he should be ready for Week 1. In fact, Powell could get some time as the Jets lead back during the preseason...perhaps in the third week. From a fantasy perspective, Powell is a low-end RB2 for fantasy purposes as he'll split time with Matt Forte. Right now, Powell is going off the board at RB25 (5.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Lucky Whitehead has broken foot    Tue Aug 15, 04:28 PM

New York Jets WR Lucky Whitehead (foot) will be out for an extended period of time with a broken foot, according to head coach Todd Bowles. It is unclear at this point if Whitehead will need surgery.

Footballguys view: He should just start going with Rodney (his first name) instead of Lucky...he's been anything but over the last month. The Cowboys cut him in a case of mistaken identity, the Jets picked him up and now he's broken his foot.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg works with starters    Mon Aug 14, 06:18 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg received some snaps with the first-team offense during practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg was so bad last year that he couldn't make it onto the field as a rookie. He's better this year according to reports, but there was only one way for him to go. Hackenberg, a second-round pick in 2016, is competing with Josh McCown and Bryce Petty for the starting job.

Jets | Algernon Brown let go    Sun Aug 13, 05:39 PM

New York Jets FB Algernon Brown was waived Sunday, Aug. 13. The team also signed free-agent S Robenson Therezie (Saints). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Jets | Decent outing for Christian Hackenberg     Sun Aug 13, 12:06 AM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg completed 18 of his 25 pass attempts for 127 yards against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12, and he has 'some positives he can build from,' according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg was a second-round pick for the Jets last year but he couldn't see the field as a rookie. This year, he is competing with the likes of Josh McCown and Bryce Petty for the starting job with the Jets. No matter who wins the job, there's not much fantasy value coming from the Jets QB in 2017.

Jets | Robby Anderson leads passing attack    Sat Aug 12, 11:25 PM

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson caught three passes for a game-high 71 yards in a 7-3 win over the Tennessee Titans in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: The Jets passing game isn't where we are looking for fantasy value. Anderson is their top wideout and we could see him paying off as a WR6 for fantasy owners.

Jets | First-team reps for Christian Hackenberg    Thu Aug 10, 10:32 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg will see time with the first-team offense against the Tennessee Titans in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 12, according to head coach Todd Bowles, but Bowles wouldn't say which quarterback would start the game.

Jets | Bilal Powell, Matt Forte unlikely to play    Wed Aug 9, 06:57 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) and RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, and are not expected to play in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Rookie Elijah McGuire will get a ton of work and chance to show what he has for the future, as Forte and Powell are at or past their peak and don't fit in the long term plans of a rebuilding team.

Jets | Austin Seferian-Jenkins standing out    Wed Aug 9, 12:04 PM

New York Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins could be the team's No. 1 option in the passing game if he carry his strong play in training camp over to the regular season, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes.

Footballguys view: With the two game suspension, it's still not worth drafting Seferian-Jenkins in a typical league, but he'll be a good waiver wire pickup early if you aren't happy with your tight end.

Jets | Matt Forte, Bilal Powell still out    Tue Aug 8, 09:07 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) and RB Bilal Powell (neck) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Rookie sixth-rounder Elijah McGuire is getting more work with the veterans out, in a preview of what the Jets backfield could look like once the season is lost and they are looking to the future. Both Powell and Forte have salaries that might make bringing them back less than cost-effective next year.

Jets | Jalin Marshall listed as No. 2 WR    Tue Aug 8, 02:41 PM

New York Jets WR Jalin Marshall is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver on the Jets' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: Marshall is suspended the first four games of the year for violating the league's PED policy. During his absence, guys like rookie ArDarius Stewart and former Clemson WR Charone Peake will compete for that no2 job opposite of Robby Anderson. No matter who wins the spot, we can't imagine the no2 WR with the Jets having a tremendous amount of fantasy value.

Jets | ArDarius Stewart most likely rookie to step up?    Tue Aug 8, 12:22 PM

New York Jets WR ArDarius Stewart is viewed by the organization as the rookie receiver most likely to contribute in the wake of Quincy Enunwa's season-ending neck injury.

Footballguys view: It's still a stretch to see Stewart providing consistent fantasy value with the worst offense in the NFL around him. Dynasty leaguers will enjoy the long look we get at Stewart, but redraft prospects are dim for any Jet passcatcher this year.

Jets | Robby Anderson having rough start to camp    Tue Aug 8, 01:49 AM

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson is out to a 'rough start' in training camp, according to Connor Hughes of NJ.com, who notes that the wide receiver is 'struggling to beat the press' and has 'dropped several easy completions.'

Footballguys view: This news coming when Anderson needs to elevate his game to fill the void left by Quincy Enunwa. If Anderson is not in top form come Week 1, this offense might have trouble generating first downs. The Jets offense is looking like fantasy kryptonite this year.

Jets | Quincy Enunwa has bulging disk    Mon Aug 7, 04:54 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) is out six to nine months with a bulging disk in his neck, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: This isn't great news for his future as a pro. Enunwa was in a contract year this season and now he's going to be a free agent in 2018 with major question marks.

Jets | Quincy Enunwa going to IR    Mon Aug 7, 03:21 PM

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) is being placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a neck injury, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are tricky to come back from and they've ended multiple careers in the past. Enunwa's future is in question as 2017 was supposed to be a big contract year. He broke out with 58 catches in 2016 but now Enunwa will hit the open market in 2018 with huge question marks around his health. The Jets now turn to Robby Anderson as the no1 WR this season.

Jets | Matt Forte back practicing    Mon Aug 7, 02:35 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 7.

Footballguys view: The Jets kept Forte out of action until his hamstring injury cleared up. With the injury to Quincy Enunwa, the Jets may rely more on their pass-catchers out of the backfield like Forte. Projecting Forte at around 40 catches in 2017 is not outlandish.

Jets | Neck issue for Quincy Enunwa    Sat Aug 5, 09:41 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) is dealing with the same type of neck injury that bothered him during the spring, head coach Todd Bowles said Saturday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: This seems to be nothing, but the Jets are already a mess at receiver--they don't need the only guy sniffing 1000 yards on their roster last year to get hurt. Nobody at the wide receiver position is worth much this year and you can pretty much ignore Jets at the position in drafts.

Jets | Bruce Ellington in mix for return work    Fri Aug 4, 11:27 PM

New York Jets WR Bruce Ellington, WR Lucky Whitehead and WR Jalin Marshall are candidates to return kicks this season.

Footballguys view: This might be the only way Jets receivers have fantasy impact - if your league allows kick return yards. None of them are draft worthy, but it's worth watching this to see if the defense/special teams has value.

Jets | Matt Forte remains sidelined    Fri Aug 4, 06:06 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: More time for Bilal Powell to get wraps, and we expect him to have a lot of caries this year. Still this offense doesn't look like it's going to be very good, so neither of these backs are worth looking at as anything but occasional plays or bench depth.

Jets | Bilal Powell leaves practice early    Fri Aug 4, 05:47 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (chest) left practice early Friday, Aug. 4, because he got the wind knocked out of him, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: We expect him to be back on the field soon. Powell is looking solid in camp so far, and with Matt Forte sidelined with a hamstring injury, getting a lot of carries. The two should split carries but Powell is a great fit for new offensive coordinator John Morton's offense and is younger and more often healthier than Forte so we think he'll see more snaps. Powell is coming off the board as the 26th back, in large part because this offense looks awful and teams will focus on the run while allowing a bad passing offense to implode on its own. We think Powell will do well, relatively speaking, but the Jets' issues will keep his numbers low.
