Jets | Chris Johnson frustrated with role    Thu Oct 30, 06:02 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson, who carried the ball just three times for seven yards in Week 8, said he's frustrated with his limited role in the offense. 'This is the first time I've ever felt this type of frustration, but there's nothing I can really do about it right now,' Johnson said. Johnson and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg discussed the possibility of expanded his role two weeks ago, but that hasn't come to fruition.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are frustrated with Johnson's performance so far this year. We're not confident anything will change with the Jets offense...even with a new starting quarterback in Michael Vick. Head coach Rex Ryan insisted that Johnson isn't being phased out of the offense.

Jets | Eric Decker a full participant    Thu Oct 30, 05:20 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see how Decker performs with Michael Vick as the team's new starter. We're not super excited by his prospects, so fantasy owners should consider him a WR3 with upside.

Jets | Geno Smith resumes throwing    Thu Oct 30, 01:31 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (shoulder) resumed throwing in practice Thursday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: Michael Vick is getting the start, so this is just a matter of figuring out whether or not Smith is the backup, or if Matt Simms will be promoted from the practice squad. Vick, for what it's worth, is not worth a start this weekend.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley practicing    Thu Oct 30, 11:53 AM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: You have to wonder if Kerley regrets signing his recent extension. Sure the money is nice, but this team has been wearing clown shoes for a long time. Michael Vick is under center this weekend which means all the turnovers will be fumbles, not interceptions which, for fans, is a nice change of pace. Kerley had some fantasy value at one point but with Decker and Harvin in town, as well as a less than potent offense, he's not startable in any format this week.

Jets | Chris Johnson unhappy with role    Thu Oct 30, 11:12 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said he is frustrated with his small role on offense as well as the team's struggles. 'Of course I'm frustrated,' Johnson said. 'On top of having a limited role, not playing as much as I want to play and then on top of that we're 1-7. It's frustrating.' Johnson received only 16 snaps in the team's Week 8 game. He rushed for seven yards on three carries and caught two passes for 13 yards.

Footballguys view: You can bet the entire team is unhappy with the way the Jets are playing, so he's not alone. This is the opposite of Larry Fitzgerald's "champagne problems" and more like "Box Wine Blues." When Johnson is on the field he hasn't been terribly effective and while he has been on the field almost 60 times less than Chris Ivory, he hasn't been able to make the catches the Jets were looking for from him. We'll see if that changes with Michael Vick under center, but until we see something positive, keep him on your bench.

Jets | Chris Johnson a full go    Wed Oct 29, 05:12 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Awesome...we still don't trust him as anything more than a low-end flex play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jets | Eric Decker a full participant    Wed Oct 29, 04:58 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) practiced in full Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Decker's hamstring seems to be getting a bit better. He'll play against the Chiefs in Week 9 with a new starting quarterback. Michael Vick is taking over for a banged up (and ineffective) Geno Smith. That makes all Jets targets an even larger question mark in Week 9.

Jets | Geno Smith's availability in question    Tue Oct 28, 05:06 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith's (shoulder) availability for Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs is in question, and he's experiencing 'minor soreness.' However, head coach Rex Ryan downplayed the severity of Smith's injury, and said the team hopes he can resume throwing by Wednesday, Oct. 29. QB Matt Simms will be ready just in case.

Footballguys view: Even if Smith was 1000 percent healthy, the team is moving forward with Michael Vick as the starter. This injury is only a footnote. Smith has struggled as a starter, and the team is going nowhere with him under center.

Jets | Michael Vick to start in Week 9    Mon Oct 27, 04:49 PM

New York Jets QB Michael Vick will start this week against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: With the way that Geno Smith has been playing, this should come as no surprise. Vick didn't exactly set the world on fire in Week 8 after replacing an ineffective Smith. We'll see if a full week of practice helps Vick look better against the Chiefs.

Jets | Percy Harvin totals 50 yards in debut    Sun Oct 26, 04:45 PM

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin ran four times for 28 yards in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills, and he added three receptions for 22 yards in his team debut.

Footballguys view: Harvin wasn't used as any more central of a part of the offense than he was at Seattle. The Jets offense has flare ups of dumpsterfire at random times, so Harvin might be relegated to what the heck flex status with a limited demonstrated playoff this season.

Jets | Jets starting QB to be determined    Sun Oct 26, 04:39 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith completed just two of his eight pass attempts for five yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions before being benched in favor of QB Michael Vick in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills. Vick completed half of his 36 pass attempts for 153 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Head coach Rex Ryan said Sunday, Oct. 26, that he has 'no idea' who the starting quarterback will be in Week 9.

Footballguys view: Smith had some sort of x-ray, but no injury can explain his performance. No matter who we see against the Chiefs next week, you'll want to start their defense.

Jets | Michael Vick replaces Geno Smith    Sun Oct 26, 01:40 PM

New York Jets QB Michael Vick has entered the team's Week 8 game after QB Geno Smith was benched. Smith started the game and threw three interceptions in the first quarter.

Footballguys view: The Jets don't seem too excited about either one of their quarterback options, which usually marks the end of a coaching regime.

Jets | Eric Decker probable    Fri Oct 24, 04:23 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 24, and is questionable for Week 8.

Footballguys view: Decker should play and get less attention from defenses that will be interested to see how new Jet Percy Harvin is deployed. Decker is worth a look as a flex in PPR leagues against the Bills mediocre secondary.

Jets | Percy Harvin seeing shorter targets    Thu Oct 23, 07:35 PM

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin had just 3.08 yards per target through the air this year with the Seattle Seahawks, compared to 9.49 yards per target in his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the Jets change this strategy when using Harvin. We're not rushing to get him in our lineups this week. Wait and see what he looks like before you start relying on him.

Jets | Full practice for Chris Johnson     Thu Oct 23, 02:21 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: Johnson has been a bust in this offense and even when they use him correctly, he hasn't performed. He's a bench warmer for fantasy purposes, no better than a RB4 right now. Ivory aka "a bowling ball made of knives" is the guy to own in this offense and is a low-end RB2 or a great RB3/flex.

Jets | Eric Decker limited    Thu Oct 23, 02:10 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) was limited for the second straight day in practice Thursday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: One of the many reasons the team traded for Percy Harvin is because Decker has almost never been healthy this year. We see Decker as a low-end WR2 play this week if he plays, while Harvin is no better than a WR4 right now until we see him in this offense.

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin won't play 50 snaps in his debut with the team in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: The Jets made an interesting move by adding Harvin here, but fantasy owners should wait and see how things work out before rushing to get him in the lineup. In the first week with his new team, Harvin is a low-end WR4.

Jets | Eric Decker limited     Wed Oct 22, 02:10 PM

Jets | Jeremy Kerley's extension official    Tue Oct 21, 04:06 PM

New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley officially signed a four-year, $16 million extension Tuesday, Oct. 21. Kerley will receive $5.4 million of guaranteed money. He has 22 catches for 201 yards and a touchdown this year.

Footballguys view: Kerley was nearing the end of his rookie contract, and now he's locked up through the 2018 season. The Jets just acquired Percy Harvin last week, and they added Eric Decker in free agency earlier this year. Even though the future of their quarterback position is up in the air, the Jets are setting themselves up at wide receiver.

Jets | Percy Harvin's role uncertain    Mon Oct 20, 02:24 PM

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin's role on offense will depend on how fast he can learn the playbook, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said Harvin will return kicks for the team.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the team wants to force the ball to Harvin. They may look to use him in as many ways possible since they lack explosive players on their offense. Fantasy owners are best looking at Harvin as a WR3/flex play until we see what he can do with his new team.

Jets | Percy Harvin deal official    Sat Oct 18, 06:54 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets WR Percy Harvin's trade to join the Jets is official.

Footballguys view: And there you have it. The Jets add a disgruntled--but incredibly talented--wide receiver to an offense that is in dire need of weapons. We'll see how he fits in alongside Eric Decker.

Jets | Percy Harvin gets fresh slate    Fri Oct 17, 08:12 PM

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin is onto his third NFL team, and he looks for more success than with the Seattle Seahawks. In Minnesota, he averaged 7.3 targets per game with 61.2 receiving yards per game and 34.2 yards per game after the catch (YAC). He ranked sixth in YAC. In Seattle, he managed just 4.5 targets per game, with only 25.0 receiving yards per game, 17.0 yards per catch and he ranked 99th in the league in YAC.

The New York Jets will pay WR Percy Harvin $7.1 million for the rest of the 2014 season, the last of the guaranteed money in a deal which runs through 2018. Harvin's salary for 2015 is $10.5 million.

Jets | Acquire Percy Harvin    Fri Oct 17, 05:43 PM

The New York Jets acquired WR Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks Friday, Oct. 17, for a conditional draft pick.

Footballguys view: Harvin would seem to take a hit in value, but he wasn't exactly soaring with the Seahawks, and the Jets could be more inclined to force him the ball the way the Vikings did. Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin both get bumps in targets, but the whole Seahawks offense loses an edge with Harvin's speed and big play threat gone. Rookie Paul Richardson's speed could help fill that void, but Russell Wilson seems like a less exciting fantasy QB today either way.

Jets | Chris Ivory has 100-yard game    Thu Oct 16, 11:48 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory had 21 carries for a season-high 107 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 7 game Thursday, Oct. 16. He also added four catches for 18 yards.

Footballguys view: The Jets continue to give Ivory twice as many touches as Chris Johnson, and he is delivering as one of the better lead backs in the NFL right now. He's a strong RB2 if he can keep this up and the Jets can stay in games.

Jets | Jace Amaro doubled playing time in Week 6    Thu Oct 16, 02:29 PM

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro played 36 snaps in the team's Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos after being stuck between 20 and 25 snaps in every game this year before that. He also doubled his season high in catches and scored a touchdown against the Broncos. Amaro could be emerging into QB Geno Smith's No. 2 target behind WR Eric Decker in the passing game.

Footballguys view: In a PPR league, Amaro was gold against the Broncos as he caught 10 catches. The yards weren't great considering all the targets (just 68)but he was targeted more than any other receiver in the red zone last week and that is a positive sign. We have him as a borderline TE1 this week despite Geno Smith being Geno Smith.
