Jets | Christian Hackenberg trade conditions    Sat May 26, 10:14 PM

The New York Jets will only receive a seventh-round pick from the Oakland Raiders as part of the Christian Hackenberg trade if Hackenberg makes Oakland's roster out of training camp and remains on the roster during the season.

Footballguys view: That means the Jets may not receiving anything for Hackenberg. He was so bad with the Jets over two years that he couldn't see the field. The Raiders don't have much behind starter Derek Carr, but we could see Connor Cook and E.J. Manuel both prove to be better than Hackenberg in camp.

Jets | Buster Skrine works with starters    Sat May 26, 12:51 PM

New York Jets CB Buster Skrine worked with the first-team defense during organized team activities this week, but CB Morris Claiborne is also considered a candidate for the starting cornerback job.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater could be Week 1 starter    Thu May 24, 03:15 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater will be considered for the starting quarterback job Week 1 if he plays well during the preseason and QB Sam Darnold shows he is not ready to play, according to sources. QB Josh McCown likely would be the starter if Bridgewater and Darnold struggle during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Neither outcome is shocking to anyone who has paid attention to the Jets this offseason. We are a little excited to see what Bridgewater is capable of after such a long layoff, but the lack of good and reliable weapons around him limit his upside. McCown would be the same middling quarterback he's always been and not really worth rostering.

Free-agent WR Jonah Trinnaman (Cardinals) signed with the New York Jets Wednesday, May 23. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg traded to Raiders    Tue May 22, 04:41 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg was traded to the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, May 22, in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The Jets have Sam Darnold as their QB of the future, and Hackenberg was so bad that he never saw the field in two years. They'll use Josh McCown as the starter until Darnold is ready, and Teddy Bridgewater is there as a third-string reclamation project.

Jets | Quincy Enunwa gets some work in during OTAs    Tue May 22, 12:31 PM

York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) was spotted running routes on air during OTAs on Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: A good sign for the veteran receiver who missed all of the 2017 season due to this neck injury. Reports speculate he could be ready for full participation at the start of training camp.

Jets | Sam Darnold receiving all the reps    Tue May 22, 11:49 AM

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold has received all 16 repetitions in 11-on-11 drills in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Darnold is a work in progress, but there is no doubt that he's the QB of the future for the Jets. We may see Josh McCown begin the season as the starter (maybe), but the team could turn things over to Darnold sooner than expected.

Jets | Terrelle Pryor injured    Tue May 22, 11:42 AM

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) suffered another ankle injury this offseason, and he's not participating in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: No word on whether this is the same ankle that held Pryor back last year for Washington. He signed a one-year deal with the Jets to prove he can play consistently at a high level. Pryor had over 1,000 yards receiving with the Browns in 2016, but last year in Washington he only mustered 240 yards receiving through nine games.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater suits up    Tue May 22, 11:17 AM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is participating in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Good news for Bridgewater, but he's still recovering from his knee injury and should be limited in any practice participation. He signed a one-year deal with the Jets and is just trying to put some preseason tape out there to show other teams he can get back to his starter-level of play. Josh McCown may begin the year for the Jets as the starter, but it's clear rookie Sam Darnold is the QB of the future.

Jets | Chris Herndon agrees to terms    Mon May 21, 02:32 PM

New York Jets fourth-round draft choice TE Chris Herndon agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Jets Monday, May 21, according to sources. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Herndon had season-ending knee surgery (MCL) last year in college with the Miami Hurricanes. When healthy, the 6'3" 255 pound tight end does a good job of creating space after the catch. A former basketball star, Herndon knows how to use his body to 'box out' defenders. Jordan Leggett may have a leg up in the competition to start for the Jets at the TE position, but Herndon could put up a good fight.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater expected to be limited    Mon May 21, 12:39 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) likely will be limited during organized team activities, but he is further along in his recovery than most people believe, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jets will be cautious with Bridgewater as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Signed to a one-year deal earlier this offseason, Bridgewater is no long-term solution for the Jets (that's rookie Sam Darnold). He's just trying to get healthy and show he can still play in the pros. The team is hoping that Bridgewater will be a full participant when training camp starts.

Jets | Jordan Leggett the favorite to start?    Fri May 18, 12:07 PM

New York Jets LB Jordan Leggett missed his entire rookie season last year due to a knee injury but may have a slight edge over rookie Chris Herndon for the starting tight end job, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com.

Footballguys view: It doesn't matter a whole heck of a lot, as we don't expect much from other the offense in general, or tight end specifically. The Jets have been a fantasy Wasteland at tight end for a long time. It's not changing now.

Jets | Robby Anderson to have charge dismissed    Thu May 17, 02:13 AM

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson will have a felony charge for resisting arrest with violence dismissed on Thursday, May 17, according to Anderson's attorney. This was the last of four felony charges remaining, and Anderson now faces only a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving from that arrest.

Jets | Kenny Vaccaro meets with Jets    Tue May 15, 02:21 PM

Free-agent FS Kenny Vaccaro (Saints) is officially visiting the New York Jets Tuesday, May 15, as expected.

Footballguys view: Vaccaro played with a core muscle injury during 2017 but had surgery to repair the problem in December. He's declared himself to be at full strength for some time now, and we should see some team out there willing to add him to a 'prove it' deal.

Jets | Antonio Garcia claimed by NYJ    Mon May 14, 05:36 PM

The New York Jets claimed OT Antonio Garcia off waivers from the New England Patriots Monday, May 14, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Garcia was a third-round pick out of Troy just last year but did not play as a rookie due to blood clots in his lungs. He was just released by the Patriots last week with a non-football injury designation. At 6'7" 302 pounds, Garcia has a large wingspan and the athleticism to block in space. Even if healthy, Garcia is a long shot to make the 53-man roster.

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) told reporters at a charity event Tuesday, May 8, that he's 'probably ahead of schedule' and that he's been running routes and catching throws.

Footballguys view: He hinted that he could be limited when organized team activities begin on Tuesday, May 22, but he expects to be a 'full go' for training camp.

Jets | Todd Bowles out of the loop?    Sun May 6, 09:20 PM

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he learned about the changes to QB Christian Hackenberg's throwing motion after the fact, but a source said the team was fully aware of the changes.

Footballguys view: Why would Bowles be dialed in on Hackenberg's motion? The optics may look bad, but the reality of the situation is that Hackenberg may be playing for another team in 2018. The Jets have Josh McCown as their starter, Sam Darnold as their quarterback of the future and Teddy Bridgewater as a third-string 'flier' quarterback. There's simply no room for Hackenberg on the roster with the current lineup.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater expected on field soon    Sat May 5, 03:26 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to be on the field for offseason workouts in a few weeks, according head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Good news for Bridgewater as he's trying to impress his new team. Bridgewater is only on a one-year deal, and the Jets selected QB Sam Darnold with the no.3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The writing is on the wall that he's no long-term answer for the Jets. However, Bridgewater could be dealt to another team in need of a starting-caliber QB...or he could just hit the open market ready to prove himself in 2019.

Jets | Sam Darnold uneven in first practice    Fri May 4, 10:59 PM

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold had some throws where he needed to 'dust the rust off' in his first practice Friday, May 4, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: That's to be expected from a rookie quarterback, especially one who is far from a finished product like Darnold. While there's a chance he starts Week 1, we think Josh McCown could begin the season at the top of the depth chart with a plan to have Darnold take over eventually.

Jets | Sam Darnold has shot to start Week 1    Fri May 4, 03:26 PM

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold will be given the chance to beat out Josh McCown and win the starting job in training camp, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Darnold should sit and learn for a bit, but if he's ready to roll then the Jets have no time to waste. Coming out of USC, Darnold has to learn how to better care for the football. He has a propensity to turn the ball over with too many interceptions and fumbles. In addition to cleaning that up, Darnold could use some tweaks to his throwing mechanics. Oh yeah, he's also just 20-years old so perhaps a little more time would be best for his long-term outlook in the pros.

Jets | Trenton Cannon signs rookie deal    Fri May 4, 03:25 PM

Sixth-round RB Trenton Cannon signed a four-year undisclosed contract with the New York Jets on Friday, May 4.

Footballguys view: Cannon is undersized at 185 pounds to take on a large workload in the NFL. He's a dynamic athlete who can make big plays happen with his speed. Cannon can also contribute on special teams as a return man.

Jets | Chris Herndon getting some work in    Fri May 4, 01:48 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (knee), who is coming off an MCL injury, participated in individual drills Friday, May 4.

Footballguys view: Herndon is an interesting name to monitor in TE-premium dynasty leagues. He injured his knee during his final college game for the Miami Hurricanes in the regular season finale and did not get to test during the pre-draft process. He's a raw player as a blocker and receiver, but there's a bit of Delanie Walker to his game. With the Jets poor TE situation, the rookie could see more playing time than some think.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg reworking delivery    Thu May 3, 09:22 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has been working with quarterback coach Jeff Christensen this offseason in an attempt to rework his throwing motion.

Footballguys view: The Jets are now stacked at the quarterback position and Hackenberg is fourth on the depth chart at best. Josh McCown may begin the season as the starter while rookie Sam Darnold is clearly the franchise quarterback of the future. Behind those two is Teddy Bridgewater, and who knows if he'll be traded away later this year or not as he's only on a one-year deal and clearly not part of the long-term picture. Hackenberg has not yet seen the field in two years as a pro.

Jets | Sam Darnold to start opener?    Thu May 3, 03:08 PM

The New York Jets believe QB Sam Darnold has a great chance to be the starter for Week 1 of the 2018 season. Darnold will compete with QB Josh McCown for the starting job during training camp.

Footballguys view: It's all going to come down to how quickly he gets the playbook under control. We think it would be better if he got some time to adjust to the pro game and cleaned up some of his mechanics, but the Jets won't hold him back if the rookie is ready.

Jets | Bryce Petty done with Jets    Thu May 3, 12:50 PM

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty is being released Thursday, May 3, according to a source.

Footballguys view: No great shock, and likely the first of two moves, with Christian Hackenberg getting his walking papers soon too. It could also be a sign that Teddy Bridgewater has come along and is mended or close to it.

Jets | Arrest warrant for Robby Anderson    Thu May 3, 02:49 AM

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson failed to appear at an arraignment on a previous reckless-driving charge Wednesday, May 2, and a warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

Footballguys view: Jets GM Mike Maccagnan spent part of this week's radio tour talking about how Anderson had been talked to and 'got it.' Seems like he didn't 'get it' enough. The Jets must be short on patience with the young wide receiver.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater throwing    Tue May 1, 06:30 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is healthy and was throwing during phase 2 of the Jets' offseason program Tuesday, May 1, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater signed a one-year deal with the Jets, and with the selection of Sam Darnold in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft we know Bridgewater is no long-term solution in New York. Perhaps there will be an injury in training camp, giving the opportunity for Bridgewater to be traded somewhere he can play. Josh McCown should begin the season and if/when he gets hurt we should see Darnold as the Jets starter as he is their QB of the future.

Jets | Chris Herndon to miss several weeks    Sun Apr 29, 05:15 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (knee) will be sidelined for another four to six weeks because of offseason knee surgery, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: Herndon was a rare tight end used on screen passes, with better run after catch ability than most of his peers. He is on a team without an established tight end, but Herndon is only a deep dynasty stash for now.

Jets | Chris Herndon selected by Jets    Sat Apr 28, 12:28 PM

The New York Jets selected Miami (Fla.) TE Chris Herndon with 107th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Saturday, April 28.

Footballguys view: A sneaky, good pick, the Jets add a guy who was often overshadowed by David Njoku in Miami, but who is also very raw. He has a lot of athletic ability and upside but hasn't always played to his size or ability. The Jets don't have much going on (though a lot of warm bodies) at tight end, so he could find some work sooner than later.
