Jets | NYJ interested in Kevin King    Sun Mar 26, 05:38 PM

Washington CB Kevin King is scheduled to work out for the New York Jets and is also scheduled to have an official visit with the Jets.

Footballguys view: King is one of the fastest risers on draft boards right now. An impressive performance at the Scouting Combine isn't the only reason, King showed on film the ability to be a big press corner. He's unusually tall for the position, measuring in at 6'3" 200 pounds. Not known as a physical tackler, King could also contribute at free safety.

New York Jets S Calvin Pryor will not see his fifth-year option exercised, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Jets | Josh McCown not guaranteed starting job    Fri Mar 24, 03:00 PM

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has not been assured that he will begin training camp as starter, and it is a decision which will be made by head coach Todd Bowles, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: The Jets could still add a quarterback via trade or via the 2017 NFL draft. McCown is a 'bridge' QB for the Jets even if he does begin the 2017 season as the starter.

Jets | DeShone Kizer worked out for Jets    Fri Mar 24, 09:34 AM

Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer worked out for the New York Jets recently.

Footballguys view: Kizer is likely to be a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, but he does have a lot to work on. At 6'4" 233 pounds, Kizer has the size and athleticism you want from a QB in the NFL. However, he's reliant too often on a big arm and not anticipation...plus he tends to lock onto his primary read and may not see/read the field quickly enough.

Jets | New York signs Quinton Patton    Thu Mar 23, 03:12 PM

Free-agent WR Quinton Patton (49ers) signed an undisclosed deal with the New York Jets Thursday, March 23.

Footballguys view: What Patton will do for them, we're not sure. Aside from Eric Decker, the team has a bunch of young guys they are reportedly excited about. And then you have to consider the rocky quarterback situation. No, we don't think Patton will be much to talk about come the season.

Jets | Jets 'very intrigued' by Mitchell Trubisky    Tue Mar 21, 10:37 PM

The New York Jets are 'very intrigued' by North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, though it would be considered a 'bold move' for the club to select him with their first-round selection at No. 6 overall in the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: They've taken Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg each of the last two years in the draft, but neither one of those guys are starting options or franchise-level quarterbacks. Trubisky is a first-round pick, but his one year of starting experience at the college level is a concern. If added, the team might want to groom him instead of throw him into the fire. Although...this is the Jets we're talking about, so expect them to make the wrong move.

Jets | New York hosts Mychal Rivera    Mon Mar 20, 05:45 PM

Free-agent TE Mychal Rivera (Raiders) paid a visit to the New York Jets Monday, March 20.

Footballguys view: Rivera didn't do much during his time with the Raiders, but a fresh start could do him some good. In 2014, Rivera was the 17th-best fantasy TE (in standard leagues) with 58 catches, 534 yards and four touchdowns. The Jets could use some help at the position, and Rivera should be a cheap option.

Jets | Chase Daniel to visit Jets    Mon Mar 20, 08:58 AM

Free-agent QB Chase Daniel (Eagles) will visit the New York Jets Monday, March 20.

Footballguys view: Just what the Jets need...another backup caliber quarterback. The team needs to find a real starting option and they may try to find a starter in the draft again. Neither Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg seem like franchise quarterback options.

Jets | Josh McCown finishes visit with Jets    Sun Mar 19, 04:26 PM

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Browns) finished his visit with the New York Jets Sunday, March 19, but did not reach an agreement on a contract. The two sides will continue to talk but no deal is imminent.

Footballguys view: McCown would be a good bridge quarterback for whatever team signs him. The Jets have young passers like Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, but neither one of them seems like a long-term answer. McCown isn't either, but he could start for a team while a quarterback is groomed.

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hip, shoulder) is expected to get a chance to complete his rehab from hip and shoulder surgeries before the Jets decide whether to keep or release him, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Footballguys view: There was a time when Decker's future with the team was in question. It appears likely that he'll stick around for 2017. Who is throwing the ball for the Jets in 2017 is still a huge mystery.

Jets | Colin Kaepernick not an option for Jets    Sat Mar 18, 04:41 PM

The New York Jets are not interested in signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jets need a quarterback, and Kaepernick needs a job, but it doesn't mean the two would be a good match.

Jets | Josh McCown to spend weekend in New York    Fri Mar 17, 12:39 PM

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Browns) will visit with the New York Jets on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: McCown is likely to land somewhere as a "bridge" quarterback. He can be the starter for a team while a young potential franchise QB is groomed behind him. The Jets have Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg on the roster, but neither seems like they'll develop into a quality starter.

Jets | NYJ pulled Dont'a Hightower offer off table?    Fri Mar 17, 12:08 PM

The New York Jets reportedly pulled their free-agent offer to LB Dont'a Hightower prior to his signing with the New England Patriots due to concerns over his physical, according to NFL.Network's Albert Breer.

Footballguys view: The Patriots know him better than anybody, and they had no problem with any sort of physical condition. Sounds like Jets damage control here after missing out on yet another free agent.

Jets | Austin Seferian-Jenkins suspended two games    Wed Mar 15, 04:48 PM

New York Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been suspended for two games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: He's got the physical gifts, but Seferian-Jenkins has never played up to his potential as a pro. A DUI last year leads to this suspension. ASJ will miss the first two weeks, but he can participate in all of OTAs, minicamp and training camp for the Jets.

Jets | Dont'a Hightower big target for Jets    Tue Mar 14, 04:41 PM

Free-agent LB Dont'a Hightower (Patriots) is of great interest to the New York Jets. In fact, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com says the Jets' interest in Hightower 'cannot be overstated.'

Footballguys view: Hightower might have misread the market entering free agency. He could return to the Patriots for a rather 'team friendly' deal, and it's certainly not for the money he expected to get. The Jets could be used for leverage here, but Hightower would likely much rather just stay with the best organization in football.

Jets | Josh McCown of interest to Jets    Mon Mar 13, 04:37 PM

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Browns) has been contacted by the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: The Jets could use a bridge QB until they find their next franchise quarterback. McCown could be that guy if they want a veteran to back up a rookie or young passer. He could even start until that guy is ready.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg close to starting?    Sat Mar 11, 09:17 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg could be ready to start a game in the NFL as soon as this season, according to New York Giants WR Brandon Marshall. 'I definitely can see him starting a game this year,' Marshall said. 'I can see him going into camp starting.'

Footballguys view: We'll respectfully disagree with Marshall. Hackenberg was a project coming out of Penn State last year, and he did little to impress as a rookie. The Jets are looking for a new starter and upgrade over Hackenberg.

Jets | AJ McCarron a possibility for NY Jets?    Sat Mar 11, 06:01 PM

The New York Jets would 'consider' a trade of DE Sheldon Richardson to the Cincinnati Bengals for QB AJ McCarron, according to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have not been tempted to trade away McCarron. Perhaps dangling Richardson in a deal would get them to bite.

Jets | Jay Cutler 'not right' for New York Jets    Sat Mar 11, 11:35 AM

Free-agent QB Jay Cutler (Bears) is a poor fit for the New York Jets as they begin to rebuild their roster and improve the culture in the locker room, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Footballguys view: Cutler may have a harder time finding a new home than some thought. Unless he wants to be a backup at this point in his career, there's not going to be a lot of teams lining up to give him a starting job.

Jets | Corey Lemonier re-signing with NYJ    Thu Mar 9, 09:43 PM

Free-agent DL Corey Lemonier will re-sign with the New York Jets, the team announced Thursday, March 9.

Jets | Josh Martin re-signs with Jets    Thu Mar 9, 07:43 PM

New York Jets LB Josh Martin re-signed with the club Thursday, March 9, agreeing to a two-year, $4.3 million deal.

Footballguys view: Martin was someone the club was keen on bringing back, so in a day of few moves by the Jets, this one is one of the few they felt they had to do.

Jets | New York eyeing two quarterbacks    Thu Mar 9, 02:20 PM

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian and free-agent QB Jay Cutler (Bears) have both drawn interest from the New York Jets. The Jets would like to trade for Siemian, but Cutler would be another option if a Siemian trade does not come to fruition.

Footballguys view: The Jets are clearly not sold on Christian Hackenberg, but it does seem like they are sold on rebuilding as they have cut a lot of aging player. Cutler would be more of a bridge quarterback, though whether he would play for a team which won't contend at this point in his career is a question. Siemian could be more of a long term move, in the hopes he could continue to develop into a starter.
