Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee), DE J.J. Watt (leg), RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') and DE Joel Heath (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Foreman is going to push Lamar Miller for the starting job...eventually. Right now, he's still recovering from his Achilles' injury. The team remains hopeful he will be cleared in time for training camp.

  Bengals | Carlos Dunlap a no-show    Tue May 22, 11:34 AM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap is absent from organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Dunlap missed out on a $300,000 workout bonus by missing voluntary work. He's due $7 million in 2018, the final year of his contract. There's buzz about the team wanting to get him an extension before the start of the regular season.

Eagles | Two Eagles absent    Tue May 22, 10:35 AM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Michael Bennett and RB Darren Sproles are absent from organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Sproles is recovering from a torn ACL, and when healthy he could be in for a larger-than-expected role with the team. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson didn't seem too concerned about this duo missing voluntary work. "I don't have a lot of concern as far as their ability to help us win games because they're veteran players and they know how to get themselves ready to go." Pederson said.

Patriots | Adrian Clayborn could participate in OTAs    Mon May 21, 09:34 PM

New England Patriots DE Adrian Clayborn (quad) has recovered from the minor quadriceps injury he suffered earlier in the offseason workout program, according to a source. As a result, it wouldn't be a surprise if he participated in OTAs on Tuesday, May 22, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: The injury was originally supposed to limit Clayborn in OTAs. Regardless of whether or not he practices, Clayborn should be full strength by the time training camp rolls around. Coming off a career high 9.5 sacks for the Falcons last year, Clayborn brings veteran punch to the Patriots pass rush.

Rams | Ogbonnia Okoronkwo had surgery    Mon May 21, 07:07 PM

Los Angeles Rams DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (foot) recently had surgery as a result of a foot injury this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Rams added Okoronkwo in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was a fierce edge rusher for the Sooners in college, and he'll fit right in on one of the most ferocious defenses in the NFL. Head coach Sean McVay expects Okoronkwo to participate in training camp.

Ravens | Brent Urban still recovering    Mon May 21, 12:47 PM

Baltimore Ravens DE Brent Urban (foot) is still recovering from the foot injury he suffered last season but should be back on the field for training camp at the latest.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick for the Ravens in 2014, Urban signed a one-year contract with the team earlier this offseason. The Lisfranc injury he suffered in 2017 limited him to only three games (all starts). We'll see what kind of participation level he can have during training camp in August.

Rams | Aaron Donald not showing up    Mon May 21, 09:31 AM

Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald won't attend organized team activities Monday, May 21.

Footballguys view: Donald is set to make around $6.8 million in the final year of his rookie contract. The 2018 Defensive Player of the Year is seriously underpaid but lacks leverage in the situation. He must report to the team a month before the start of the regular season if he wants to become a free agent in 2019. The Rams could franchise him for two years in a row after this season if need be. Both sides should work to come to an agreement before the start of training camp, but there's no telling the distance in negotiations at this time.

Vikings | Minnesota hoping to extend three key players    Sun May 20, 03:09 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs, DE Danielle Hunter and LB Anthony Barr are the three players the team is hoping to sign to lucrative deals this offseason, according to Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Footballguys view: Diggs is in the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make a little over $700,000 in 2018. The Vikings spent a ton of money to get QB Kirk Cousins, but they should be able to find a way to get Diggs a contract.

Patriots | Adrian Clayborn could be limited for OTAs    Sun May 20, 01:10 PM

New England Patriots DE Adrian Clayborn (quad) reportedly tweaked a quadriceps muscle during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: It wouldn't be an NFL offseason without Clayborn banged up in some way. He's one of the more oft-injured players in the league, so expect the Patriots to be cautious bringing him along from this latest ailment. While he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, he may be limited during OTAs, which begin Monday, May 21.

Lions | Detroit may be interested in two DTs    Sat May 19, 01:07 PM

Free-agent DT Alan Branch (Patriots) and DT Ricky Jean-Francois (Patriots) could be options for the Detroit Lions because they are familiar with head coach Matt Patricia's defensive scheme, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein.

Footballguys view: The Patriots did not exercise Branch's option, and he's gotten little to no interest on the open market. It makes sense to reunite him with Patricia, and the Lions should have interest as they look for a Haloti Ngata replacement.

Cowboys | DeMarcus Lawrence not worried about contract    Thu May 17, 03:42 PM

Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence said he is not worried about his contract situation because he believes he will receive a long-term extension if he plays well in 2018.

Footballguys view: Currently on the franchise tag (that he signed), Lawrence is set to make a little over $17 million in 2018. The two sides have until mid July to work on a new long-term contract. After nine sacks combined in 2015 and 2016, Lawrence exploded for 15.0 sacks in his contract year. The Cowboys don't want him to get away, and even with that large one-year number we could see a deal hammered out before the deadline to do so.

Rams | Coach optimistic about Aaron Donald deal    Wed May 16, 09:05 PM

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said he is optimistic that DT Aaron Donald will receive a contract extension this offseason.

Footballguys view: Donald is in line to make around $6.8 million in 2018, and he's looking for a huge upgrade in pay status. The Rams should do what they can to accommodate the superstar defensive tackle. McVay said he has been in contact with Donald this offseason.

Eagles | Cedric Thornton visited Eagles    Wed May 16, 02:09 PM

Free-agent DT Cedric Thornton (Bills) recently worked out for the Philadephia Eagles.

Footballguys view: Thornton spent four seasons with the Eagles (2012-2015) but that was with a different coaching regime. Over the last two years he's bounced from Dallas to Buffalo and now is once again looking for a new home.

Eagles | Brandon Graham had surgery    Tue May 15, 07:59 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham (ankle) recently underwent surgery on his injured right ankle and could miss all organized team activities.

Footballguys view: It's a clean up procedure and doesn't seem too serious. The procedure was performed to help promote healing on high-ankle sprains like the one Graham suffered in Week 16 last year. He is currently wearing a protective boot.

Bills | Ryan Russell to meet with Buffalo    Tue May 15, 01:32 PM

Free-agent DE Ryan Russell (Buccaneers) is scheduled to visit with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, May 16.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick (Purdue) for the Cowboys back in 2015, Russell was not tendered as a restricted free agent by the Buccaneers. At 6'4" 269 pounds, Russell has the physical tools but has always been a bit of a career underachiever...even dating back to his college days for the Boilermakers.

Bengals | Four Bengals picks sign deals    Fri May 11, 05:22 PM

Cincinnati Bengals fifth-round draft choices CB Davontae Harris and DT Andrew Brown and seventh-round draft choices QB Logan Woodside and OG Rod Taylor signed four-year contracts Friday, May 11. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Woodside could be an interesting developmental quarterback. He was incredibly accurate in college, and Woodside put up some big numbers leading the Toledo offense finishing his college career as the all-time leader for the Rockets in passing yards (10,514) and passing touchdowns (93). He doesn't have the strongest arm and is undersized by NFL standards.

Cowboys | Dallas signs six draft picks    Fri May 11, 04:20 PM

Dallas Cowboys fourth-round draft choices DE Dorance Armstrong and TE Dalton Schultz, fifth-round draft choice QB Mike White, sixth-round draft choices LB Chris Covington and WR Cedrick Wilson and seventh-round draft choice RB Bo Scarbrough signed four-year contracts with the Cowboys Friday, May 11, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Schultz is nasty as a blocker and loves to mix it up. He's a decent receiver who can be asked to go down the seam against linebackers. Without Jason Witten (retired), the Cowboys will use a TEBC with Schultz and guys like Rico Gathers, Geoff Swaim, and Blake Jarwin.

Lions | Detroit wraps up three rookie contracts    Fri May 11, 03:31 PM

Detroit Lions first-round OL Frank Ragnow signed a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth season Friday, May 11. Fourth-round DL Da'Shawn Hand and seventh-round FB Nick Bawden also signed four-year contracts as well. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Giants | NY Giants finalize three rookie deals    Fri May 11, 01:58 PM

New York Giants second-round OG Will Hernandez, third-round LB Lorenzo Carter and fourth-round QB Kyle Lauletta signed four-year contracts Friday, May 11. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Lauletta has drawn some Tony Romo comparisons on 'draft Twitter' and he's a rookie quarterback with intriguing upside. He'll compete with second-year pro Davis Webb to be the backup quarterback behind Eli Manning in 2018. Lauletta is athletic, accurate and can keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. We're monitoring him in dynasty leagues.

Colts | Quenton Nelson among nine signees for Colts    Fri May 11, 08:47 AM

Indianapolis Colts OG Quenton Nelson, DE Kemoko Turay, DE Tyquan Lewis, RB Nyheim Hines, WR Daurice Fountain, RB Jordan Wilkins, WR Deon Cain, LB Matthew Adams and LB Zaire Franklin signed their rookie four-year deals Friday, May 11. Nelson, a first-round pick, has an option for a fifth year. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on Hines, Fountain and Wilkins here. Hines is a running back/slot receiver who can make big plays with explosion and burst. Fountain is a better-than-advertised route runner who can get open and make plays after the catch. Wilkins is an early fantasy darling out there and seen as a player with Matt Forte-like ability who could take over the backfield duties from Marlon Mack. Stay tuned.

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller, C James Daniels, LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe, DE Bilal Nichols, LB Kylie Fitts and WR Javon Wims signed their four-year rookie contracts Thursday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Regardless of where he was drafted, Miller could have a shot to contribute because the Bears don't have an overabundance of talent at the position.

Panthers | Carolina inks five to rookie contracts    Thu May 10, 07:56 PM

Carolina Panthers CB Donte Jackson, DE Marquis Haynes, LB Jermaine Carter, DT Kendrick Norton and TE Ian Thomas all signed their four-year rookie deals on Thursday, May 10.

Footballguys view: The first pick in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft, Thomas is an intriguing prospect who reminds some in the scouting community of a younger version of Jermaine Gresham. Thomas is a raw prospect, measuring in at 6'4" 259 pounds. He can use his size to his advantage, has the speed to attack the middle seam of a defense and Thomas has strong hands. We'll see if he can develop for the Panthers behind starter Greg Olsen.

Cowboys | Randy Gregory to file next week    Wed May 9, 10:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys DE Randy Gregory plans to file for reinstatement next week, according to sources.

NFL | Cliff Avril receives interest    Wed May 9, 10:33 PM

Free-agent DE Cliff Avril (neck) said he has received interest from a few teams this offseason but is waiting to see what the doctors say about his recovery.

Footballguys view: Avril has not yet retired, but he's set to hit the media ranks with his new radio show on 950 KJR in Seattle. Neck injuries are always difficult to come back from, and Avril is no spring chicken at 32 years old. There is plenty of buzz that Avril will not be cleared to play due to this neck injury, but he's leaving the door open.

Eagles | Five Eagles sign rookie deals    Wed May 9, 04:55 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert, CB Avonte Maddox, Josh Sweat, OT Matt Pryor and OT Jordan Mailata signed their four-year rookie contracts Wednesday, May 9.

Footballguys view: Goedert is one of our favorite TEs in this year's class, but landing in Philadelphia does hurt his fantasy value. The receiving tight end from South Dakota State will compete for snaps behind starter Zach Ertz. He could take over the Trey Burton/Brent Celek role for the Eagles offense.

NFL | Cliff Avril not ruling out playing again    Wed May 9, 02:02 AM

Free-agent DE Cliff Avril (Seahawks) was hired by Seattle radio station 950 KJR-AM on Tuesday, May 8, but he has not officially retired.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with, and several pros have seen their time in the NFL cut short by this type of injury. To return, Avril would need to be cleared by a doctor following his neck injury last season.

CB Prince Charles Iworah, OL Devondre Seymour, WR Brandon Shippen and WR Nelson Spruce were waived in corresponding moves.

Footballguys view: Smallwood is a big-bodied (6'2" 225 pounds) receiver who never did much in college. During his time with the Sooners, Smallwood caught only 18 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown.

Cowboys | Terrell McClain to visit Dallas    Tue May 8, 10:38 AM

Free-agent DT Terrell McClain (Redskins) will visit the Dallas Cowboys this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: McClain has bounced around the league a bit after being a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft (Panthers). He's visited with a few teams but might find Dallas his best spot. McClain was disappointing in 2017 during his time with Washington, but the best seasons of his pro career came in Dallas (2014-2016). It might be best for him to go back.
