Dolphins | Derrick Shelby signs tender    Thu Mar 26, 11:46 AM

Miami Dolphins restricted free-agent DE Derrick Shelby signed his tender offer Wednesday, March 26. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Shelby is strictly a rotational guy, but a vital one. He's young, does a good job getting to the quarterback and has a lot of upside.

Saints | Anthony Spencer visited team    Thu Mar 26, 07:46 AM

Free-agent DE Anthony Spencer (Cowboys) visited the New Orleans Saints this week, but Saints head coach Sean Payton told reporters there have been no contract talks with Spencer.

Footballguys view: Spencer has underachieved for a long time, but even so it's surprising how little interest there seems to be. Perhaps his asking price is high. More than likely he finds a home where he will rotate in on the edge, rather than a full time position.

Raiders | C.J. Wilson back with Oakland    Wed Mar 25, 11:48 PM

The Oakland Raiders re-signed free-agent DT C.J. Wilson to a two-year contract Wednesday. March 25. His deal is for two years and $4.6 million.

Bears | Ray McDonald signing    Tue Mar 24, 01:53 PM

Free-agent DE Ray McDonald (49ers) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, March 24.

Footballguys view: McDonald comes to Chicago with his fair share of baggage. On the field, he should start at defensive end for the Bears and he can slide inside to tackle when the team goes with a four-man front. Off the field, McDonald has to prove that he can make better decisions and avoid the trouble that circled him last year.

Jets | Stephen Bowen signing    Tue Mar 24, 01:23 PM

Free-agent DE Stephen Bowen (Redskins) is signing an undisclosed deal with the New York Jets Tuesday, March 24.

NFL | Jamaal Anderson healthy    Mon Mar 23, 05:21 PM

Free-agent DE Jamaal Anderson (knee) said he's fully recovered from a knee injury after taking part in the veteran combine this past weekend. 'I feel outstanding, not just physically but mentally, and I think it definitely humbled me to sit back and realize that I'm not entitled as a first-rounder to be on a roster. I think I'm going to cherish more of the journey now,' Anderson said.

Footballguys view: Anderson was the 8th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft to the Atlanta Falcons. He's struggled to stay healthy and play effectively, so now Anderson is looking for another chance. At 6'6" 280 pounds, Anderson could get some attention from his performance at the veteran combine.

NFL | Adam Carriker fine physically    Mon Mar 23, 05:18 PM

Free-agent DE Adam Carriker (quadriceps) said he has been physically cleared by Dr. James Andrews, and Carriker said he's feeling great physically. Carriker is expected to draw interest from the 50 scouts that were in attendance at last weekend's veteran combine.

Footballguys view: Carriker was out of the league last season after Washington released him a year ago. He's 30-years old and two years removed from a devastating knee injury. We'll see if Carriker can draw interest now after his performance at the veteran combine.

Cowboys | Anthony Spencer not expected back    Sun Mar 22, 11:12 AM

Free-agent DE Anthony Spencer (Cowboys) is not expected to re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

Footballguys view: The signing of Greg Hardy means the Cowboys are likely to let Spencer go. He could work well for a team as a part-time pass-rusher. Spencer has failed to impress since undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee in 2013.

Seahawks | C.J. Wilson to visit Seattle    Sat Mar 21, 07:19 PM

Free-agent DE C.J. Wilson (Raiders) will visit the Seattle Seahawks this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Wilson is a run-stuffer on the edge. He also has the ability to build pressure from the outside, but he's not known as a pass-rusher.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater working with teammates    Fri Mar 20, 01:23 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is working out in California with Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph, RB Jerick McKinnon, WR Charles Johnson and TE Brandon Bostick. McKinnon and Rudolph are rooming together at Rudolph's Newport Beach, Calif., home and are taking a no-nonsense approach to their training. Rudolph organized the group event.

Footballguys view: It's no mystery, we love Bridgewater. He's smart, accurate and known as a football junkie. Why he wasn't a top-5 pick last year is completely baffling. Moving on from that, his upside is that of a top-12 fantasy QB. We'll see if he can make a big jump in year two.

Giants | George Selvie agrees with Giants    Fri Mar 20, 10:36 AM

Free-agent DE George Selvie (Cowboys) agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the New York Giants Friday, March 20. The deal includes a $200,000 signing bonus.

Footballguys view: Selvie will be reunited with former USF teammate Jason Pierre-Paul. The veteran defensive end started 29 of 32 games for the Dallas Cowboys over the last two years. His career really took off in Dallas, and he compiled 10 sacks during his time in Dallas. The Giants are hopeful he can continue to work well as a part-time pass-rusher.

Seahawks | Ahtyba Rubin signing    Thu Mar 19, 06:16 PM

Free-agent DT Ahtyba Rubin (Browns) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, March 19, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Rubin is a big run-stuffer who can plug up the middle. The Browns weren't hot and heavy to bring him back after finishing 32nd against the run in 2014. We'll see if a change of scenery helps Rubin play better.

Jets | No official visit for Osi Umenyiora    Thu Mar 19, 02:33 PM

Free-agent DE Osi Umenyiora (Falcons) didn't have an official visit with the New York Jets Wednesday, March 18, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. Umenyiora was only visiting to say hi to new head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Jets fans were hoping for a little schadenfreude if they stole a Giants player, even one who the team didn't keep last off-season. Alas, that seems as if it won't happen this time.

Jets | Osi Umenyiora visits    Wed Mar 18, 07:50 PM

Free-agent DE Osi Umenyiora (Falcons) made a visit to the New York Jets Wednesday, March 18.

Footballguys view: Umenyiora is no longer the player he used to be, and his last double-digit sack season was 2010. He's played the last two years for the Falcons, and Umenyiora only had 2.5 sacks in 2014. If the Jets add him, Umenyiora would likely only be a part-time pass-rusher.

Cowboys | Greg Hardy agrees to terms    Wed Mar 18, 03:52 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday, March 18, on a one-year deal worth as much as $13.1 million.

Footballguys view: It's a strong move for the Cowboys with a potentially high price tag. Hardy may be suspended the first six games of the season, but that didn't keep the Cowboys from offering him big money. He's a fantastic pass-rusher who should make an immediate impact for Dallas--when he's eligible to play.

Buccaneers | Lose interest in Greg Hardy    Wed Mar 18, 01:35 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) does not appear to be an option for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers anymore since the team has lost interest in him.

Footballguys view: "Lose interest" means "his price got too high" in coachspeak...or is it GMspeak? Either way, it looks like Hardy is going to play for the Cowboys in 2015.

Ravens | Chris Canty re-signed    Wed Mar 18, 12:10 PM

Free-agent DE Chris Canty (Ravens) has agreed to terms Wednesday, March 18, with the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Canty was entering the third year of his deal with the Ravens when he was released earlier this year. That transaction saved the Ravens $2.66 million against the salary cap. Canty cancelled a visit with the Seattle Seahawks so he could stay in Baltimore. He missed five games in 2014, including four after undergoing surgery for a staph infection in his wrist and thumb. Canty had 33 tackles, a half-sack and a forced fumble in 11 starts.

Seahawks | Ahtyba Rubin visiting    Wed Mar 18, 11:29 AM

Free-agent DL Ahtyba Rubin (Browns) will visit the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, March 18, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Rubin would give the Seahawks a big body in the middle of the line. He's spent his entire career with the Browns, but they're not clamoring to bring him back after they finished 32nd against the run in 2014.

Cowboys | Dallas, Greg Hardy near agreement?    Tue Mar 17, 11:47 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) and the Dallas Cowboys might finalize a deal by Wednesday, March 18, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Hardy may be facing a six-game suspension this year, but that isn't stopping teams from having interest. He's a talented pass-rusher who would be able to help out any team that adds him. It sounds like the Cowboys have to be considered the frontrunners here.

Buccaneers | Greg Hardy to visit    Tue Mar 17, 12:05 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Seahawks | Greg Hardy to visit    Tue Mar 17, 11:46 AM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is expected to visit the Seattle Seahawks, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Hardy would be a tremendous pass-rusher for any team that adds him....but he'd be especially dangerous if added to the already stout Seattle defense. He could be suspended the first six games of the 2015 season, and that's why the market has been cool for him so far. With the first wave of free agency done, expect that market to heat up.

Cowboys | Greg Hardy to visit    Tue Mar 17, 11:17 AM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is expected to visit the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, March 17.

Footballguys view: Hardy may get suspended six games to start the 2015 season. He's supremely talented as a pass-rusher, but the market has been fairly cool for his services because of a potential suspension. We'll see that market heat up a bit now that the first wave of free agency is done.

Free-agent DE Chris Canty (Ravens) will visit the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, March 19, according to a source.

Free-agent DE George Selvie (Cowboys) is scheduled to visit with the Minnesota Vikings this week.

Footballguys view: Selvie, 28, has appeared in all 16 games in the previous two seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted in the seventh round (226th) by the St. Louis Rams in 2010. If added, Selvie would likely back up Brian Robison.

NFL | Greg Hardy scaring away suitors    Mon Mar 16, 05:50 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is scaring some teams off because he's likely to be suspended for the first six games of the season for a domestic-violence incident. One general manager said Hardy 'is on our list, but pretty far down.'

Footballguys view: Talent isn't the issue with Hardy. When not suspended, he's one of the best pass-rushers in the game. Some team will eventually take a chance on him, it may just be a while.

NFL | Ray McDonald to sue accuser    Mon Mar 16, 01:33 PM

NFL | Greg Hardy likely out six games    Mon Mar 16, 09:35 AM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is expected to be suspended for the first six games of the season after his domestic-violence incident, according to some teams' thinking.

Footballguys view: That's likely leading to the cold market he's faced. Hardy is a talented pass-rusher, but his off-field incidents have given teams pause when considering him as a free-agent addition.

Bengals | Michael Johnson agrees to terms     Sun Mar 15, 11:06 AM

Free-agent DE Michael Johnson (Buccaneers) has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: A good move for both sides here. Johnson looked good during his previous stint (2009-2013) with the Bengals. He signed a huge-money deal last offseason with the Buccaneers, and he failed to live up to the contract. The Bucs decided to let him go after his one disappointing season, and the Bengals bring him back. Johnson is a good pass-rusher who should start at DE opposite Carlos Dunlap.

Raiders | Not pursuing Greg Hardy    Fri Mar 13, 02:48 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) is not receiving interest from the Oakland Raiders at this time, according to a source.

Footballguys view: At this time is the key phrase here. Hardy is one of the best pass-rushers in the game, but off-field concerns is keeping his market somewhat cool. There will be more than a few teams interested if they feel he's going to stay out of trouble.

Falcons | Adrian Clayborn agrees    Thu Mar 12, 02:44 PM

Vikings | Michael Johnson to visit    Thu Mar 12, 12:22 PM

Free-agent DE Michael Johnson (Buccaneers) will have his first visit with the Minnesota Vikings, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Johnson was a disappointment with the Bucs, but he flourished under Mike Zimmer during their time together with the Bengals. In 2012-2013 Johnson compiled 15 sacks while also being a reliable defender against the run.

Jaguars | Red Bryant released    Thu Mar 12, 11:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Red Bryant was released Thursday, March 12, according to a league source.

Bills | Two returning to Buffalo    Thu Mar 12, 10:29 AM

Free-agent WR Marcus Easley and DE Jarius Wynn agreed to re-sign with the Buffalo Bills Thursday, March 12.
