Vikings | Trae Waynes in the mix Tue Jul 7, 12:45 PM
Minnesota Vikings rookie CB Trae Waynes will be in the mix for a cornerback spot with CBs Terence Newman and Captain Munnerlyn. CB Joshua Robinson (pectoral) suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle at the end of minicamp, and Waynes could move up the depth chart. Head coach Mike Zimmer was pleased with Waynes' growth this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Waynes has great straight-line speed, but doesn't have the same agility or mirror coverage ability of his first-round peers. It will certainly help him to have a good defensive line rotation and Xavier Rhodes on the other side of the field, not to mention Harrison Smith patrolling deep. If Waynes does start, he'll be an excellent early-year play in IDP leagues under the rookie corner rule.|

Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall (Achilles') had his participation limited in optional workouts in May and June, as he continues to work his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon. Hall's $4 million base salary for 2015 only becomes guaranteed if he makes the 53-man roster.Link to story

Vikings | Joshua Robinson has muscle tear Sat Jul 4, 03:32 PM
Minnesota Vikings CB Joshua Robinson (pectoral) suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle during minicamp, according to a source. The timetable for Robinson's recovery was undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: This injury should keep Robinson out of training camp. He could end up on the PUP list to start the regular season if the injury is slow to heal. This injury to Robinson will only open the door even more for rookie CB Trae Waynes to get more playing time and opportunity as the team's third corner.|

Cowboys | Morris Claiborne ready for camp? Sat Jun 27, 07:01 PM
Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne may be ready for the start of training camp. 'I think Claiborne has a real good chance to surprise,' owner Jerry Jones said recently, via the team's official website. Claiborne lost 30-40 pounds this offseason, after having surgery done on both of his knees.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys declined his fifth-year option, but Claiborne is due $2.6 million (fully guaranteed) in the final year of his rookie deal. They'll bring him back cautiously as he returns from this serious injury. Claiborne has been a huge disappointment as a pro, and this is likely his last season with the Cowboys.|

NFL | Antoine Cason out for season Thu Jun 25, 02:58 AM
Free-agent CB Antoine Cason (foot) will miss the 2015 season due to surgery he underwent on Tuesday, June 23. Cason (Ravens) did not specify what type of surgery he had, but an Instagram post showed his right foot was heavily bandaged.
|Footballguys view: Cason was cut from the Ravens last season after the picked him up when the Carolina Panthers cut him. He has had multiple interceptions in every season he has played in the NFL, but struggled to produce otherwise.|

Chargers | Brandon Flowers sat out Tue Jun 23, 03:44 PM
San Diego Chargers CB Brandon Flowers (undisclosed) sat out of practices this month with a minor injury, but he said he'd be ready for training camp. Flowers signed a four-year deal with $20.5 million guaranteed this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Flowers was a fine addition for the Chargers in 2014, and it's good they were able to keep him around for this season. They'll get him healthy and pair him opposite 2014 first-round pick Jason Verrett to make a dangerous starting cornerback duo.|

Ravens | BAL interested in Tarell Brown Sun Jun 21, 04:50 PM
The Baltimore Ravens have expressed interest in free-agent CB Tarell Brown (Raiders), although no deal appears imminent, according to multiple league sources.
|Footballguys view: Earlier this year, Brown met with the New England Patriots. The Ravens have Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb both starting at corner, but injuries at the position could quickly mount like they did last season. Brown is still on the open market largely because of durability concerns. He started 14 games last year for the Raiders while playing with a broken foot.|

Rams | STL interested in Aaron Ross Sun Jun 21, 04:16 PM
Free-agent CB Aaron Ross (Ravens) worked out for the St. Louis Rams last week, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Ross spent last year on Injured Reserve because of an Achilles' injury, but now he's trying to generate some interest on the open market. If added, Ross would compete as a backup to make the final roster for the Rams.|

Ravens | Lardarius Webb could return punts Wed Jun 17, 09:36 PM
Baltimore Ravens CB Lardarius Webb would like to be the team's primary punt returner this season, in addition to being a starting cornerback. He has previous experience returning punts but has been used mainly in a fair-catch role since the 2011 season. He was spotted catching punts in practice this week along with CB Asa Jackson and WRs DeAndre Carter and Steve Smith, although Smith is unlikely to be used in the role due to his importance to the offense. WR Michael Campanaro (quadriceps) is also in the mix, although he will be sidelined until training camp.
|Footballguys view: Webb can be quite dangerous as a return man. In college at Nicholls State, Webb was the first player in conference history to win Player of the Week awards on offense, defense and special teams in the same week. There's no problem with him shagging kicks/punts for the Ravens today.|

New Orleans Saints CB Brandon Browner (undisclosed) walked off the field with trainers Wednesday, June 17. It's unknown if he's cramping or injured.

Cowboys | Byron Jones signs Thu Jun 11, 05:56 PM
Dallas Cowboys CB Byron Jones signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, June 11. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman (elbow) hasn't been wearing a brace or a sleeve on his left elbow. 'I'm out there naked. No, I'm not wearing anything,' Sherman said Tuesday, June 9.
|Footballguys view: Sherman is ready to go after dealing with this nagging elbow injury. He's been rehabbing the injury over the past four months, and surgery was avoided.|

Lions | Darius Slay sits out practice Thu Jun 4, 12:57 PM
Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay (hands) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, June 4, because of bruised hands. Head coach Jim Caldwell said the injuries are not serious, and Slay should return in a few days.
|Footballguys view: Slay should continue to anchor a solid secondary for the Lions--a must in the pass-heavy NFC North.|

Vikings | Captain Munnerlyn in a boot Thu Jun 4, 12:27 PM
Minnesota Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (foot) is wearing a walking boot because of a right foot injury. Munnerlyn underwent an MRI on his foot but will not need surgery on the injury.
|Footballguys view: Not needing surgery is great news for Munnerlyn and the Vikings. The team needs Munnerlyn to be ready to go at the start of the season as he will likely be in charge of the slot position, with Xavier Rhodes and Terence Newman working the edges.|

Titans | Brandon Harris suffers serious injury Tue Jun 2, 06:50 PM
Tennessee Titans CB Brandon Harris (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament Tuesday, June 2, during organized team activities. He is likely out for the season.
|Footballguys view: The Titans decided to keep Harris around with a one-year contract he signed earlier this year. He played 112 snaps for the Titans in 2014, and if healthy he'll be able to make a final roster--wherever he ends up--in 2016.|

Ravens | Jimmy Smith ahead of schedule Mon Jun 1, 08:24 AM
Baltimore Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (foot) competed aggressively in organized team activities last week, and he looked ahead of schedule following season-ending foot surgery. 'He's not full speed, he's out there working hard,' head coach John Harbaugh said. 'He's probably ahead of schedule.'
|Footballguys view: Smith underwent surgery last November, and it looks like he'll be ready to rock in training camp. The language of the NFL is money, so it's telling that the Ravens signed Smith to a four-year extension earlier in 2015. Smith's $41 million deal included a $13 million signing bonus, $20 million guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $10.2 million.|

San Francisco 49ers CB Tramaine Brock (hamstring) has been limited during organized team activities because of what is believed to be a hamstring injury. Brock is expected to be one of the starting cornerbacks this upcoming season.

Jets | Dee Milliner competing for roster spot Tue May 26, 12:37 AM
New York Jets CB Dee Milliner (heel) is still working his way back from an injury but will have a chance to compete for a roster spot, according to defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers.
|Footballguys view: The Jets have completely re-worked their secondary this offseason. Milliner was atop the depth chart to begin last year, but this Achilles' injury has now clouded his future. He might be the fourth corner on the depth chart now behind Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine.|

Bills | Ronald Darby signs Tue May 19, 05:26 PM
Buffalo Bills rookie CB Ronald Darby signed a four-year deal worth $4.6 million Tuesday, May 19, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: The Bills didn't have a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, but they promptly scooped up Darby in the second round. He's a speedy cover corner with the hip transition to play off the line of scrimmage. Darby has good click-and-close ability when the play unfolds in front of him. The rookie has starter's upside, but this season he'll compete to be the nickel corner behind Leodis McKelvin and Stephon Gilmore.|
Chiefs | Marcus Peters signed Fri May 15, 06:22 PM
Kansas City Chiefs CB Marcus Peters signed a four-year deal with the team Friday, May 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Peters had a falling out with coaches at Washington, but most stories about him pre-draft said he is a good teammate. Andy Reid has plenty of experience with different personalities and should help Peters fit in as a rookie. He's a massive upgrade to the Chiefs cornerback position long term.|
Ravens | Kyle Arrington may be a target Wed May 13, 01:05 PM
Free-agent CB Kyle Arrington (Patriots) is receiving interest from the Baltimore Ravens.
|Footballguys view: Arrington could return to the Patriots at a smaller salary, but there will be other teams out there (like Baltimore) willing to take a chance on the veteran. The need at corner is there for the Ravens...and not just as a slot corner behind Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith. Webb is coming off a disappointing 2014, and Smith is recovering from Lisfranc surgery. If he's added, there's a chance Arrington could end up playing significant snaps for the Ravens in 2015.|

Patriots | Kyle Arrington released Mon May 11, 10:26 AM
New England Patriots CB Kyle Arrington was released Monday, May 11, according to a source. The team left the door open for him to return.
|Footballguys view: The turnover in the secondary continues for the Patriots. They will now be without their top three cornerbacks from last year - Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner and Arrington. We could see Logan Ryan as the slot corner behind starters Malcolm Butler and Bradley Fletcher, although Arrington could return at a lower salary.|

Falcons | Jalen Collins signs first deal Sun May 10, 02:25 AM
Atlanta Falcons CB Jalen Collins, the team's second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, signed his rookie contract Saturday, May 9. Financial terms were not made available.
|Footballguys view: Collins could have easily been a first-round pick in the draft. The Falcons crushed the draft in nearly every round, and Collins could develop into a fine starter for this team eventually.|
Falcons | Jalen Collins will be ready for camp Fri May 8, 04:40 PM
Atlanta Falcons CB Jalen Collins (foot) did not participate in practice Friday, May 8, for precautionary reasons but will be ready for training camp, according to head coach Dan Quinn.
|Footballguys view: It's a good move for the Falcons to take it easy here. Collins can be eased into offseason installment with an eye on full participation at the start of training camp.|
Packers | Damarious Randall misses practice Fri May 8, 03:54 PM
Green Bay Packers CB Damarious Randall (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, May 8, because of a minor ankle injury.
|Footballguys view: Randall was a bit of a surprising pick for the Packers near the end of the first round. He was a safety in college, but Randall will play cornerback for the Packers. Randall will get back out there once the ankle is better.|
Falcons | Jalen Collins sitting out Fri May 8, 02:05 PM
Atlanta Falcons CB Jalen Collins (foot) is not participating in drills Friday, May 8, since he underwent foot surgery earlier in the offseason. He expected to participate once the rookie minicamp began.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons had arguably the greatest draft of any team in the NFL. There's no need to rush Collins back here. The Falcons should just ease him into action with a goal of having him near full strength by Week 1.|
Texans | Kevin Johnson signs rookie deal Fri May 8, 08:35 AM
Houston Texans CB Kevin Johnson signed his four-year, $10.049 million deal with a $5.5 million signing bonus Friday, May 8.
|Footballguys view: Johnson is incredibly gifted athletically, and he can mirror wide receivers all over the field. He has the vision to understand the route as it unfolds, and he has the recovery speed to turn and burst in order to catch a receiver on a deep route. He could step in and contribute right away for the Texans.|
Vikings | Trae Waynes signed Thu May 7, 02:54 PM
Minnesota Vikings first-round draft choice CB Trae Waynes signed his four-year deal with the team Thursday, May 7, according to sources. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Waynes should be a great addition to an increasingly tough defense. He'll help shore up an already stout secondary (seventh against the pass per NFL.com) and make this a very dangerous group to face. We like pairing him up with Xavier Rhodes to give the team an athletic cornerback duo.|
Cardinals | Alfonzo Dennard claimed Thu May 7, 03:06 AM
New England Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard was picked up off waivers by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, May 6.
|Footballguys view: Dennard has battled injuries over the course of his pro career, hampering his development. He has shown some moments, especially in press coverage, so the Cardinals could find a larger than expected role for him. Of course, he needs to stay healthy in order to start playing up to his potential.|
Patriots | Alfonzo Dennard to be released Tue May 5, 09:24 AM
New England Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard will be released Tuesday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: A seventh-round pick in 2012, Dennard only started four games last season. He was inactive for nine games in 2014, and Dennard finished the season on Injured Reserve. The Patriots have now lost a combined 29 starts at cornerback this offseason with Darrelle Revis (16) and Brandon Browner (9) leaving via free agency and with Dennard (4) being released.|

Texas Tech WR Bradley Marquez, New Mexico Highlands WR Tyler Slavin, Texas RB Malcolm Brown, Texas State RB Terrence Franks, Iowa DT Louis Trinca-Pasat, Northwestern State CB Imoan Claiborne, Liberty FS Jacob Hagen signed undrafted free-agent deals with the St. Louis Rams Sunday, May 3.Link to story
Falcons | Jalen Collins selected 42nd overall Fri May 1, 08:07 PM
Louisiana State CB Jalen Collins was selected 42nd overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft Friday, May 1.
|Footballguys view: A nice fit for the Atlanta secondary who is a big corner who can match up with the big NFC South receivers.|
Falcons | Five players waived Fri May 1, 06:09 PM
Atlanta Falcons FS Brandan Bishop, OT Reid Fragel, CB Jordan Mabin, LB Jacques Smith and RB Ronnie Wingo were waived Friday, May 1.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons are just clearing roster space for incoming rookies and undrafted free agent rookie. None of these players were really likely to make the final roster.|
Cowboys | Morris Claiborne's status for camp uncertain Fri May 1, 03:38 PM
Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne (knees) is making good progress in his recovery from offseason surgery, but his status for the start of training camp is uncertain at this time, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. Jones said Claiborne is still a part of this team but is not sure if the team will pick up his fifth-year option.
|Footballguys view: The Dallas Cowboys just drafted his replacement, so he'd best get cracking on the rehab. Byron Jones will help the secondary immediately while Claiborne has struggled much of his career thus far.|

Eagles | Philly made big push for Marcus Mariota Fri May 1, 12:51 AM
The Philadelphia Eagles offered the Tennessee Titans two first-round picks, one third-round pick, DT Fletcher Cox, CB Brandon Boykin, LB Mychal Kendricks and QB Sam Bradford in exchange for the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Chip Kelly tried as hard as he could, but it's difficult to move up from the 20th spot to 2nd overall. We'll see how Mariota works out with the Titans as he seems to be a bit of an odd fit. In Philadelphia, we would have been much more excited about Mariota's pro prospects.|

Cowboys | Byron Jones selected 27th overall Thu Apr 30, 11:00 PM
Connecticut CB Byron Jones was selected 27th overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.
|Footballguys view: Jones is a big, physical corner who can mix things up at the line of scrimmage. He's an instinctive player with a nose for the ball and a knack for breaking up incoming passes.|
Chiefs | Marcus Peters selected 18th overall Thu Apr 30, 10:06 PM
Washington CB Marcus Peters was selected 18th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.
|Footballguys view: The Chiefs are continuing to build a decent defense. They still lack a wide receiver besides Jeremy Maclin, but there are plenty of those in the second round.|
Texans | Kevin Johnson selected 16th overall Thu Apr 30, 09:55 PM
Wake Forest CB Kevin Johnson was selected 16th overall by the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.
|Footballguys view: The Texans continue to build an 'anti-Andrew Luck' defense and it's a good one. Johnson is a great cover corner and makes this tough defense even tougher. Now they just need offense.|
Vikings | Trae Waynes selected 11th overall Thu Apr 30, 09:20 PM
Michigan State CB Trae Waynes was selected 11th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.
|Footballguys view: This is becoming a great defense. Waynes is a long, tough corner who can lock down receivers. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is coming for the NFC North.|
Eagles | Making big offer for No. 1 or No. 2 Thu Apr 30, 08:06 PM
The Philadelphia Eagles are willing to trade two first-round picks, a third-round pick, DT Fletcher Cox, CB Brandon Boykin, LB Mychal Kendricks and possibly other things in order to acquire the first or second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
|Footballguys view: It wasn't enough. It seems insane that the Titans didn't pull the trigger on that trade, but they took Marcus Mariota. He's a great prospect so you can't blame him but that's a lot of talent left on the table.|

Dolphins | Chris Dunkley could fill need Wed Apr 29, 11:21 PM
The Miami Dolphins held a private pre-draft workout with University of South Florida CB Chris Dunkley, and they have worked out several skilled returners. Dunkley averaged 24 yards per kickoff and 8.5 yards per punt at USF.
|Footballguys view: Dunkley was a wide receiver until last year. He switched to corner in 2014, started 10 games for the Bulls and led the team with five pass breakups. Watch for him in the late rounds of the draft.|
NFL | Devin Smith comparable to DeSean Jackson? Wed Apr 29, 08:17 PM
Former Ohio State WR Devin Smith has drawn some comparisons to Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson ahead of the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30. Jets | To be fined in Darrelle Revis tampering case Tue Apr 28, 12:39 PM
The New York Jets will be fined $100,000 for the tampering case involving CB Darrelle Revis.

Broncos | Tony Carter signs tender Mon Apr 27, 04:34 PM
Denver Broncos CB Tony Carter signed his restricted free-agent tender Monday, April 27. The tender is worth $1.542 million.

Bills | Jonte Green released Mon Apr 27, 04:22 PM
Buffalo Bills CB Jonte Green was released Monday, April 27.

NFL | P.J. Williams' DUI case dismissed Mon Apr 27, 01:27 PM
Florida State CB P.J. Williams' driving under the influence case has been dismissed, according to his lawyer.
|Footballguys view: This dismissed DUI didn't hurt his draft stock as much as his poor 40-yard dash (4.57) at the scouting combine. Williams can play press-man or press-bail coverage, and he's a physical corner who does not back down from a challenge. He's likely to be an early to mid second-round pick.|
