Patriots | Bobby McClain works out    Tue Mar 31, 09:42 AM

Memphis CB Bobby McClain recently worked out for the New England Patriots. He is projected as a late-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: McClain has good instincts at corner, and he does a good job of getting to the ball in a hurry. A willing player in run support, McClain could develop into a nice slot corner at the pro level.

Falcons | Nick Marshall worked out    Mon Mar 30, 01:36 PM

Auburn QB/CB Nick Marshall worked out privately for the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend. Marshall participated in only cornerback drills during the workout.

Footballguys view: Marshall is not a quarterback at the pro level. He was moved to cornerback during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year, and that's where he'll have to find a home in the pros. He's a good athlete, but obviously he's raw at the cornerback position.

NFL | Quinten Rollins to visit four teams    Sun Mar 29, 07:27 AM

Miami (Ohio) CB Quinten Rollins has visits planned to the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers before the NFL Draft. Sources indicate as many as 10 teams may be on his visitation list.

Footballguys view: Rollins was a four-year starter for the Redhawks on their basketball team at point guard. He's played one year of college football, but there are several teams interested in the raw corner. He needs to work on his technique, but his footwork and ball skills are elite.

Jaguars | Jalen Collins to visit    Sat Mar 28, 02:50 AM

LSU CB Jalen Collins has a visit scheduled with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Collins is a large corner (6'1" 195 pounds) with fluid hips and agility. His upside is through the roof, and Collins could develop into a shutdown corner in the pros. He gets a bit grabby at times, and Collins is known as a physical player. With better technique and proper coaching, Collins could become a great pro.

49ers | Cameron Fuller cut    Fri Mar 27, 02:07 PM

San Francisco 49ers CB Cameron Fuller was released Friday, March 27.

Footballguys view: Fuller was signed late last season, and he was active (but did not play) in the team's season finale.

Vikings | Marcus Peters visiting Minnesota    Fri Mar 27, 12:22 PM

Former Washington CB Marcus Peters is on a pre-draft visit with the Minnesota Vikings Friday, March 27, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Peters was kicked off the Huskies due to his out-of-control temper and multiple problems with the coaching staff. He's a big, fast, physical corner with technique issues that need to be cleaned up.

Titans | Brandon Harris re-signs with Titans    Fri Mar 27, 11:53 AM

Free-agent CB Brandon Harris re-signed with the Tennessee Titans Friday, March 27, on a one-year deal.

Footballguys view: Harris was claimed on waivers last August after he was released by the Texans. He played in 11 games for the Titans last year, and he'll continue to play as a reserve corner in 2015.

Ravens | P.J. Williams to visit    Thu Mar 26, 07:59 AM

Florida State CB P.J. Williams will visit the Baltimore Ravens prior to next month's NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Williams is a cover corner who can play on an island, cover outside or from the slot,or come up and play man-press. He should go pretty high in the coming NFL draft.

Free-agent CB Terence Newman (Bengals) agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, March 25, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Newman is reunited with Mike Zimmer here. The two worked together when they were with the Cowboys, and now they're together again with the Vikings. Newman isn't the same player he used to be, but he'll be able to help Minnesota as a depth player.

Jaguars | Trae Waynes to visit    Sat Mar 21, 02:27 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes is scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best corner in this draft class. He has the size/speed combination that could make him a shutdown corner at the pro level.

Vikings | Terence Newman discussing deal?    Fri Mar 20, 02:30 AM

Free-agent CB Terence Newman (Bengals) has discussed contract figures with the Minnesota Vikings, but the sides are not close to a deal yet.

Footballguys view: Just give it time. Newman would be reunited (again) with Mike Zimmer if (when) he signs with the Vikings. They worked together in both Cincinnati and Dallas.

Lions | P.J. Williams visits    Thu Mar 19, 02:00 PM

Florida State CB P.J. Williams met with the Detroit Lions Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: The Lions have a decent secondary but Williams is a solid cover corner with good recovery who can work the slot or outside. You can't have too many corners in today's NFL.

Buccaneers | Sterling Moore agrees    Thu Mar 19, 01:35 PM

Free-agent CB Sterling Moore (Cowboys) agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, March 19, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Moore stepped in for the Cowboys last season when Morris Claiborne was hurt, starting nine games and playing nickel corner for Dallas. The Cowboys didn't tender him at all (he was technically a restricted free agent) so he became an unrestricted free agent and the Bucs were happy to give him a shot. If he can replicate his 2014, it could be a very nice upgrade for Tampa Bay.

Chargers | Patrick Robinson signs with San Diego    Thu Mar 19, 10:55 AM

Free-agent CB Patrick Robinson (Saints) signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the San Diego Chargers Thursday, March 19. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus, $1 million base salary ($250,000 guaranteed) and up to $1 million in playing time incentives.

Footballguys view: Making a position of strength stronger, the signing allows the Chargers to use three different corners who can play outside. A first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Robinson started out as the No. 2 cornerback, but struggled and was demoted. He did bounce back with solid play as a slot corner later on and might benefit by not having to start, instead rotating in as needed.

Bengals | Brandon Ghee signs with Cincinnati    Thu Mar 19, 10:51 AM

Free-agent CB Brandon Ghee (Chargers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on an undisclosed contract Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Ghee may not even make the roster, as he will have to battle for a spot low on the depth chart. Picked in the third-round in 2010 by the Bengals, Ghee left as a free agent for San Diego last year but was cut in preseason. He then played six games with Tennessee before being released in early December with just one interception and three tackles.

Saints | Keenan Lewis restructures    Thu Mar 19, 08:42 AM

New Orleans Saints CB Keenan Lewis restructured his deal to put the team $1.7 million under the salary cap. An additional $10.4 million of his contract has been guaranteed, according to a source. The Saints converted portions of his 2015 and 2016 base salaries into signing bonuses, dropping his 2015 base salary from $1.8 million to $850,000 and his 2016 base salary from $4.25 million to $2.7 million. His 2015 cap hit is $4,500,000.

Panthers | Will work out Trae Waynes    Wed Mar 18, 03:30 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes said he is scheduled to have a private workout with the Carolina Panthers.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best cornerback in this draft. He's got the length at 6'1" to hang with taller receivers on downfield routes. Waynes does a good job of re-routing his man, and he's got the recovery speed to make up ground in a hurry.

Titans | Trae Waynes to work out    Wed Mar 18, 03:29 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes said he is scheduled to have a private workout with the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best cornerback in this draft. He's got the length at 6'1" to hang with taller receivers on downfield routes. Waynes does a good job of re-routing his man, and he's got the recovery speed to make up ground in a hurry.

Patriots | Robert McClain signing    Wed Mar 18, 02:33 PM

Free-agent CB Robert McClain (Falcons) announced on Twitter that he is signing an undisclosed deal with the New England Patriots Wednesday, March 18.

Footballguys view: The Patriots continue to rebuild their secondary here after losing both Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis in free agency. McClain has worked well as a nickel corner for the Falcons, but in New England he'll be able to compete for a starting job on the outside. He also brings special teams experience to the Patriots.

Jets | Antonio Cromartie says he's healthy    Wed Mar 18, 01:35 PM

New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie (hip) said he feels fine physically and can still play at a high level in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Jets. Cromartie wasn't himself in 2013, and the team decided to release him after that season. He went to Arizona last year, stayed healthy and got his career back on track. Cromartie is part of an impressive secondary the Jets have put together this offseason. He joins Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine and Marcus Gilchrist to give the Jets quite the collection of corners.

Lions | Rashean Mathis agrees to terms    Wed Mar 18, 01:18 PM

Free-agent CB Rashean Mathis (Lions) has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, March 18, on a two-year deal worth $3.5 million, according to a source. He is scheduled to make $2 million in 2015.

Footballguys view: Mathis was arguably the best corner remaining on the open market. The Lions needed to find a starter opposite Darius Slay, and they felt Mathis was worth keeping around. Mathis won't count that much against the cap, and he should be able to provide the team with quality play. Last year, Mathis finished the season as the 12th-best corner in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

Patriots | Bradley Fletcher agrees with Pats    Wed Mar 18, 10:52 AM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent CB Bradley Fletcher (Eagles) agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Wednesday, March 18. The deal is worth a maximum of $2.5 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Patriots have some serious work to do in their secondary after losing both Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner in free agency. Fletcher was targeted often by opponents during his time with the Eagles. He's got a nose for the ball, but he'll gamble to take chances--and he'll get burned. He'll compete for a starting job with the Patriots.

Vikings | Terence Newman visits    Tue Mar 17, 02:38 PM

Free-agent CB Terence Newman (Bengals) visited with the Minnesota Vikings Monday, March 16.

Footballguys view: Newman played under Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer during their days with the Bengals. They were also together with the Cowboys early in Newman's career. Newman had been considering retirement, but some team could sign him for veteran depth. Reuniting with Zimmer makes a lot of sense.

Patriots | Terence Newman to visit    Tue Mar 17, 02:38 PM

Free-agent CB Terence Newman (Bengals) is scheduled to visit with the New England Patriots Tuesday, March 17.

Footballguys view: The Patriots need to rebuild their secondary after the departure of both Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. Newman could be a short-term answer. The veteran corner has started 174 career games, and he was a starter last year in Cincinnati. He has been considering retirement, but some team may decide to make an offer for veteran depth.

Browns | Tramon Williams signs     Mon Mar 16, 02:56 PM

Free-agent CB Tramon Williams (Packers) signed a three-year deal worth $21 million Monday, March 16, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This signing shows a lack of confidence (for good reason) in last year's first-round pick CB Justin Gilbert. Williams isn't quite the player he used to be, but he's still a solid corner. He'll start opposite Joe Haden to give the Browns a potent duo at the position.

Ravens | Had interest in Perrish Cox    Mon Mar 16, 01:26 PM

Tennessee Titans CB Perrish Cox received interest from the Baltimore Ravens when he was a free agent, but the Ravens were not able to offer more than the Titans, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Not a surprise considering Cox has turned into a decent corner. The Titans are looking to upgrade their defense under the guidance of assistant head coach Dick LeBeau.

Panthers | Teddy Williams signs    Thu Mar 12, 07:31 PM

Free-agent CB Teddy Williams (Jaguars) signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers Thursday, March 12, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: Williams made it into the NFL as a wide receiver coming out of Texas-San Antonio as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He converted to cornerback for the Colts in 2012, bounced to wide receiver again with the Cardinals, then back to corner for the Jaguars. Follow along? He's a depth guy for Carolina with an injury history that includes an Achilles' injury.

  Dolphins | T.J. Heath re-signs    Thu Mar 12, 06:10 PM

Free-agent CB T.J. Heath (Dolphins) was re-signed to an undisclosed deal by the Miami Dolphins Thursday, March 12.

Giants | Travis Howard waived    Thu Mar 12, 06:08 PM

New York Giants CB Travis Howard was placed on no-recall waivers Thursday, March 12.

Footballguys view: We'll see if anyone bites or if the Giants get him back when nobody does. He wasn't a factor last year (when he was active for all of two games) and that was a secondary which needed help.
