Steelers | Senquez Golson working as nickel back    Fri Jul 29, 08:13 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Senquez Golson lined up as the nickel back during practice Friday, July 29.

Footballguys view: The second-round pick from 2015 missed the entire season, so just to have him on the field is a great win for the Steelers. He should be the biggest upgrade to the secondary this year, with this year's first-round pick Artie Burns being rawer than the typical first-round corner.

Lions | Darius Slay lands big deal    Fri Jul 29, 12:06 PM

Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay agreed to a four-year, $50.2 million extension Friday, July 29, with $23 fully guaranteed, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Slay elevated his game to near "shutdown" level last year. The Lions were smart to lock him at a reasonable price this year and avoid the 2017 free agent market setting his value, which would have surely been higher. Teams are usually more accurate evaluating their own talent and get the best deals when they extend their own before their contracts are up.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) looked impressive in his first practice of training camp Thursday, July 28. He locked up receivers in press coverage and displayed good instincts, strength and explosiveness.

Footballguys view: If Dante Fowler Jr is back to 100% health while both Ramsey and Myles Jack stay healthy, this defense has a tremendous foundation. The Jaguars are a team which is on the upswing and should be a tough franchise to play in the next few years.

Footballguys view: At this time, Cromartie is insisting that his hip is not a problem and that he has no plans to retire. We'll see if the 32-year old can latch on with a team before the season starts. Perhaps injuries in training camp will get teams interested in the veteran.

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills CB Stephon Gilmore said Monday, July 25, that he plans to attend training camp. Gillmore was seeking a long-term deal in the offseason.

Footballguys view: According to reports, the Bills are not willing to pay the price Gilmore is seeking at this time.   Eagles | Eric Rowe to be No. 2 cornerback?    Thu Jul 21, 05:38 PM

Philadelphia Eagles CB Eric Rowe is projected to be the No. 2 starting cornerback opposite CB Leodis McKelvin, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan. Sheridan also said that it would not be a surprise if CB Nolan Carroll wins the No. 2 cornerback job.

Footballguys view: The Eagles need to improve the secondary and it sounds like they are willing to shift things around if need be. Rowe lost the starting job to Nolan Carroll but when Carroll got hurt, he got another shot and performed. Rowe can play both man and zone though we see a lot of press coming from him this year.
