Texans | Aaron Colvin pleasing Houston coaches    Mon Jun 17, 02:09 PM

Houston Texans CB Aaron Colvin was limited to 10 games, two starts, 29 tackles and one pass defensed due to an ankle injury after signing a four-year, $34 million contract that included $18 million guaranteed last offseason. However, he has impressed the coaching staff so far this offseason.'He's had a good offseason. He's been here every day, he's worked hard. I think he's definitely in that group of players that have improved, which is a big group. But there's definitely been improvement because he's been out there every day. He's been healthy, he's been working. He's a hard worker. He definitely takes a good professional approach to every day,' head coach Bill O'Brien told the Houston Chronicle.

Footballguys view: Colvin is likely to be the slot corner for the Texans in 2019. This news is good news for Colvin as he struggled in 2018 through 10 games in his first season with the Texans. It sounds like he could be in for a bounce-back year.

San Francisco 49ers' CB Jason Verrett (Achilles') is expected to remain in the Santa Clara area during the break leading up to training camp and hopes to be able to return to the field when camp begins.

Lions | Darius Slay not committing to training camp    Thu Jun 13, 06:35 PM

Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay hasn't committed to reporting to next month's training camp without a new contract. 'Will I be there?' Slay said in an episode of The Pride Podcast released Thursday, June 13. 'We'll see. Time will tell.' Slay is set to carry a cap hit of $12.55 million in 2019 on the second-to-last year of a four-year, $48-million deal signed in 2016.

Footballguys view: There's no reason for the Lions to delay an extension for Slay if they plan on keeping him for the long haul. The market price will just go up in 2020 and the team has already banked many years of Slay's production at below market value. After the Le'Veon Bell debacle last year, we can't rule out a prolonged holdout, but chances are he'll show up for camp or early in camp.

Packers | Kevin King update    Wed Jun 12, 02:18 AM

Green Bay Packers CB Kevin King (shoulder) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick out of Washington in the 2017 NFL draft, King has never played a full 16-game season in his career (17 games total in two seasons). The Packers won't push him as he returns from the shoulder injury that limited his 2018 season to just six games. He should start opposite Jaire Alexander when healthy.

Raiders | Oakland adds two, subtracts two    Tue Jun 11, 04:53 PM

Free-agent WR Montay Crockett (Jaguars) and CB Isaiah Langley signed undisclosed contracts with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, June 11. DBs Makinton Dorleant and Montrel Meander were waived in corresponding moves.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Georgia Southern in 2017, Crockett has already bounced around to a few different teams. He also spent some time with the Atlanta Legends of the now-defunct AAF. Crockett is known for his 4.3 speed but clearly hasn't impressed enough to stay with a team...and he will be a long-shot to make the Raiders 53-man roster.

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey said he was informed he will not receive a new contract this year.

Vikings | Mackensie Alexander not yet approached for extension    Sun Jun 9, 10:31 AM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings CB Mackensie Alexander has not been approached yet by the team regarding a possible contract extension, according to a source. He is entering the final season of his current deal.

Footballguys view: The Vikings have a lot of money committed to key defensive pieces, but they may not see a slot corner as a key piece. Alexander will get paid either way and could become a starter elsewhere after being blocked by three first-round picks in Minnesota.

Lions | Two Lions want new deals    Tue Jun 4, 09:22 AM

Detroit Lions DT Damon Harrison and CB Darius Slay will skip the mandatory minicamp as both players are wanting new contracts. Harrison lost a $250,000 workout bonus for skipping voluntary workouts and could be fined up to $88,650 for missing the minicamp.

Footballguys view: Harrison has been staying away this offseason. He's owed around $16 million with two years left on his current contract. Something should be worked out between the two sides but perhaps Harrison is in line for only a small pay bump. We'll see if the Lions want to play hardball with the veteran run-stuffer.

Broncos | Isaac Yiadom working his way back    Sun Jun 2, 08:33 PM

Jets | Blessuan Austin may miss start of season    Sun Jun 2, 01:38 PM

New York Jets CB Blessuan Austin (knee) could start the 2019 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Austin could eventually start on the outside opposite Trumaine Johnson but he only played five games over his junior and senior seasons because of knee injuries. The team hopes that Darryl Roberts rises to the occasion, but if he doesn't, Morris Claiborne could be re-signed. This spot will likely be a weakness that opposing pass offenses target frequently.

Rams | David Long tough to throw on in college    Sun Jun 2, 01:15 AM

Los Angeles Rams third-round CB David Long (Michigan) allowed only 29 percent of the targets in his coverage to be completed in 2018 - the lowest completion percentage among draft-eligible cornerbacks with a minimum of 150 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Long was drafted as an eventual replacement for Marcus Peters or Aqib Talib. Both will be free agents next year. Long is a press man specialist who fits well in the Rams defensive scheme. He has a shutdown corner's game even though he lacks elite tools. The Rams could be in good hands if they suffer an injury at corner this year.

Browns | Greedy Williams running with starters    Fri May 31, 12:23 PM

Cleveland Browns CB Greedy Williams is working with the first-team defense in organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Once thought of as a potential top-10 pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Williams fell to the Browns in the second round. Williams has good height, length and a nose for the football. He should be a fine outside corner for the Browns opposite of Denzel Ward.
