Ravens | Coach wants to retain Matt Judon     Fri Jan 17, 12:54 PM

Baltimore Ravens DE/LB Matt Judon, a pending free agent, is primary target for the team to retain, head coach John Harbaugh said Friday, Jan. 17. 'We're going to try to get as many of these guys re-signed as we can,' Harbaugh said. 'Matt is probably right at the top of the list, for sure. ... Our goal will be to have Matt back.'

Footballguys view: The Ravens salary cap situation isn't great, and Judon is more likely to leave than stay, although like the Pittsburgh Steelers situation with Bud Dupree, they could franchise tag Judon and see if they can work out the numbers after acting to keep him.

Cowboys | Leighton Vander Esch expected for workouts    Tue Jan 14, 09:28 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch (neck) is expected to be ready for the offseason workouts even though he underwent neck surgery Thursday, Jan. 14, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Vander Esch originally wanted to avoid surgery but the rest he was giving his neck injury wasn't doing the trick. He recently went under the knife and the team is hopeful Vander Esch will be ready at some time in the spring. However, even if he is ready for action we think the Cowboys will play it smart and ease him back into action. The more realistic full return date should be in training camp.

Rams | Franchise tag an option for Dante Fowler    Tue Jan 14, 07:20 PM

Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent DE Dante Fowler is a candidate for the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Lindsey Thiry.

Footballguys view: Fowler posted career-best numbers in his first full season with the Rams. In 2019, Fowler appeared in 16 games finishing with 58 total tackles and 11.5 sacks. The franchise tag would pay him around $15 million on a one-year deal.

Cowboys | Surgery for Leighton Vander Esch    Tue Jan 14, 05:19 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch (neck) underwent non-evasive surgery on his neck Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Vander Esch was an All-Pro selection as a rookie in 2018 but only appeared in nine games last season. He wanted to avoid surgery but rest wasn't getting the injury healed properly. This non-evasive surgery may not knock him out of action during offseason workouts later this spring. That being said, we're sure the Cowboys will be careful while bringing back their 2018 first-round pick.

Seahawks | Seattle's season ends despite late rally    Sun Jan 12, 10:11 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson completed 21-of-31 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown as the team fell behind by 18 points twice but made a late charge before falling short 28-23 in Sunday's NFC Divisional Round playoff game. Wilson led the team in rushing with 64 yards, while RB Marshawn Lynch rushed for 26 yards and two scores on 12 attempts. WR Tyler Lockett was highly efficient, turning his 10 targets into nine catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. WR DK Metcalf was held somewhat in check after setting a playoff record for most receiving yards by a rookie one week ago, finishing with four receptions for 59 yards. TE Jacob Hollister hauled in five catches for 47 yards. RB Travis Homer chipped in 27 more yards through the air to go along with his 13 rushing yards. CB Tre Flowers, LB K.J. Wright and DE Jadeveon Clowney paced Seattle with seven tackles apiece. LB Shaquem Griffin tallied one of Seattle's two sacks, while Wright and Clowney combined on the other.

Footballguys view: Wilson was once again outstanding in a playoff loss. If the Seahawks had any kind of effective running game, they might have been okay in this one. Their defense has room to improve and the Seahawks will still be in the top of the NFC picture next year.

Packers | Green Bay moves on to NFC Championship    Sun Jan 12, 10:02 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers finished 16-of-27 for 243 yards and two touchdowns as the team raced out to a 21-3 lead before holding on for a 28-23 victory in Sunday's NFC Divisional Round playoff game. RB Aaron Jones ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, while Rodgers added 14 more yards on the ground. WR Davante Adams hauled in eight catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns, while TE Jimmy Graham was the only other Packer with more than one catch, tallying three receptions for 49 yards. LBs Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith each recorded two of Green Bay's five sacks, while LB Blake Martinez led all tacklers with 10 stops (seven solo).

Footballguys view: Rodgers made a few unreal throws when he needed to and the Packers made a 21-3 hold up. They'll face a San Francisco team that thumped them 37-8 during the regular season.
