Panthers | C.J. Anderson scores Thursday    Thu Aug 9, 10:27 PM

Carolina Panthers RB C.J. Anderson rushed four times for 16 yards and a touchdown in a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Anderson was expected to fill a role similar to the one Jonathan Stewart had last year, and he's more capable than Stewart, but the team leaned on Christian McCaffrey when the first team offense was on the field. He's still a useful back, but Anderson's value without a McCaffrey injury might be lower than we originally thought.

Panthers | Six touches for Christian McCaffrey    Thu Aug 9, 10:21 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed four times for 11 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 29 yards in a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey was basically the exclusive first-team running back, in what could portend a jump to RB1 status for him after an up and down 2017.

  Panthers | D.J. Moore tallies 75 yards    Thu Aug 9, 10:16 PM

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore caught four passes on six targets for a game-high 75 yards in a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Moore did nothing to slow down the hype train that started well before the draft. The Panthers have a plethora of quality targets and it might be difficult for anyone to greatly outperform ADP over the course of the season, but if one player is going to emerge as the most valuable wideout in Carolina, Moore might be a better bet than Devin Funchess.

Panthers | Tyler Larsen extended    Wed Aug 8, 12:54 PM

Carolina Panthers OG Tyler Larsen signed a two-year, $4.4 million extension Wednesday, Aug. 8, with $1.4 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Larsen's extension should help the team replace Ryan Kalil next year. He was set to be a restricted free agent.

Panthers | Jarius Wright catching everything    Wed Aug 8, 10:28 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Jarius Wright is the unofficial receptions leader among the wide receivers thus far in training camp.

Footballguys view: The Panthers passing game is crowded with the additions of DJ Moore, Torrey Smith, and Wright, and the return of Greg Olsen. Wright won't generate value of his own, but he'll help Cam Newton move the chains.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey does not practice    Sun Aug 5, 08:55 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (illness) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 5, because of an illness, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: It sounds like a minor thing and McCaffrey should be back out there soon enough. The Panthers play Thursday on the road against the Bills. We don't see McCaffrey playing that much even if he's over this illness.

Panthers | Chris Manhertz not close    Sun Aug 5, 08:44 PM

Panthers | Ryan Kalil to retire at season's end    Sun Aug 5, 10:31 AM

Carolina Panthers C Ryan Kalil will retire at the end of the 2018 season.

Footballguys view: Tyler Larsen is a solid backup and Kalil has done a great job passing on everything he can to his backup. The Panthers should be okay at center next year.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel passes physical    Wed Aug 1, 09:14 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) passed his physical Wednesday, Aug. 1, and is in pads for practice.

Footballguys view: Samuel is battling for snaps with Damiere Byrd, Torrey Smith and DJ Moore. He failed to make an impact last year and his speed isn't as scarce on the roster with the addition of Smith and Moore. His dynasty stock is flatlining.

Panthers | Ross Cockrell injured    Mon Jul 30, 11:45 AM

Carolina Panthers CB Ross Cockrell (leg) was carted off in practice with a left leg injury Monday, July 30. Head coach Ron Rivera ended practice abruptly due to the potentially serious injury.

Footballguys view: Cockrell was a leading candidate to start at cornerback for the Panthers. They don't have depth at the position and could chase after Bashaud Breeland again after he failed a physical the first time they tried to sign him. It's not a good place to be for a team that faces deep passing attacks in the NFC South.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel working hard    Mon Jul 30, 10:56 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) has been working out hard to see how he handles it, according to head coach Ron Rivera. 'So far, so good,' Rivera said.

Footballguys view: Samuel could be a PUP or injured reserve candidate if his ankle is slow to respond. The addition of DJ Moore and Torrey Smith and presence of Damiere Byrd gives the team players to replace all of the elements that Samuel could add to the offense in his second year.

Panthers | Taylor Moton could move into starting role    Sun Jul 29, 10:52 AM

Carolina Panthers OL Taylor Moton is likely to start at right tackle for as long as OT Daryl Williams (knee) is sidelined, according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: Moton has been the subject of mixed reviews so far. The Panthers open with Dallas, Atlanta, and Cincinnati, which provide edge rush challenges for tackles. He'll be tested early and often.

Panthers | Cam Newton feeling good    Sat Jul 28, 10:33 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said his body 'feels great' after taking the proper steps this offseason to make sure he is fully healthy.

Footballguys view: The Panthers have added more weapons to the offense over the last two years. That's great news for Newton as most everything in the offense will funnel back to (or go through) him. Newton is a QB1 for Fantasy GMs and going off the board at QB7 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Panthers | Daryl Williams may not be done    Sat Jul 28, 08:10 PM

Panthers | Daryl Williams tears MCL    Sat Jul 28, 08:00 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers OT Daryl Williams (knee) suffered a dislocated kneecap and a torn medial collateral ligament during practice Saturday, July 28.

Panthers | Daryl Williams carted off    Sat Jul 28, 12:01 PM

Carolina Panthers OT Daryl Williams (knee) was carted off the field after suffering an apparent knee injury during practice Saturday, July 28. Williams' injury appeared to be a non-contact injury.

Footballguys view: This is brutal for the Panthers as Williams was playing at a high level last year. 2017 second-round pick Taylor Moton will be on the spot, and training camp reports have been mixed at best so far.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey in for hefty load?    Wed Jul 25, 04:21 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's ideal workload would be 25 to 30 touches per game, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: That's a big load for McCaffrey and it's one of the reasons he bulked up this offseason. Fantasy GMs project McCaffrey as a borderline RB1 (RB12 in 12-team PPR leagues) but this news could increase his already high average draft position. You won't get McCaffrey at a bargain in your draft but you could get a dynamic player with a large workload. This news about McCaffrey's potential workload also dampens some expectations for his backup C.J. Anderson.

Panthers | Luke Kuechly good to go    Wed Jul 25, 04:09 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly (shoulder) passed his physical and is ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: He underwent shoulder surgery earlier this offseason, and the Panthers held him out of offseason work. We could see him eased into action in training camp even though he's fully cleared.

Panthers | Several Panthers placed on PUP    Wed Jul 25, 03:45 PM

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey bulked up    Wed Jul 25, 03:29 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey added some weight this offseason and is up to 208 pounds. He played at 202 pounds last year.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is going to get a larger workload this year as a runner...at least that's the speculation coming out of Panthers camp. They did add C.J. Anderson in free agency earlier this year, and he could end playing a Jonathan Stewart-like role for his new team. McCaffrey is a stud playmaker, especially in space. His ability as a runner and receiver makes him a borderline RB1 for Fantasy GMs. McCaffrey has a current ADP of RB12 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey primed for 200 carries?    Tue Jul 24, 12:12 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey could reach the 200-carry mark, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The coaching staff is reportedly confident McCaffrey can run between the tackles, much like he did in college. McCaffrey has bulked up about five pounds to 210 pounds to be better prepared for the pounding.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is a compact and patient runner who could handle more of the workload as a runner. He's not a pile pusher, but McCaffrey can run between the tackles as he knows how to get skinny and make defenders miss in small areas. His current ADP shows how much fantasy GMs love his upside. McCaffrey is currently going off the board at RB12 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel likely ready for camp    Tue Jul 24, 12:04 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) is expected to be cleared for full participation in training camp, although the team will be cautious and will perhaps give him a day off periodically.

Panthers | Several options at RG    Sun Jul 15, 07:54 PM

Carolina Panthers OGs Taylor Moton, Jeremiah Sirles, Amini Silatolu, Greg Van Roten and Tyler Larsen are candidates for the starting left guard job. The Panthers probably will want to find a starter during the early part of training camp.

Panthers | Sale of Panthers finalized    Tue Jul 10, 08:07 AM

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson finalized the sale of the team to David Tepper Monday, July 9.

Footballguys view: Say hello to David Tepper who is already making noise about improvements for the stadium and a new practice facility. It'll be a while before we really get a sense of his management style and even longer before we feel the effect on the field, if we do at all.

Panthers | Tina Becker resigns    Tue Jul 10, 08:04 AM

Carolina Panthers chief operating officer Tina Becker resigned Monday, July 9, which is expected to be the last domino before owner Jerry Richardson sells the team.
