Panthers | Corey Brown out of practice    Wed Aug 24, 10:17 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (shoulder) is out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 24, with a shoulder injury.

Footballguys view: Brown added 10 pounds of muscle this offseason to help with his durability. A shoulder injury is going to set him back for a time, but he's still only the no.4 WR on the depth chart in Carolina.

Panthers | Ed Dickson returns    Wed Aug 24, 09:30 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson (groin) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 24, after missing nearly two weeks with a groin injury.

Footballguys view: If healthy, Dickson should be the primary backup to Greg Olsen. He's got little fantasy value even if he were to see extended playing time.

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson (groin) has missed the last week of practice due to a groin injury. He did individual work on the side during practice on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and is unlikely to play in the team's next preseason game on Friday, Aug. 26.

Panthers | Corey Brown leaves early    Tue Aug 23, 04:55 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (shoulder) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 23, with a shoulder injury. His removal from practice simply appeared to be a precaution.

Footballguys view: Brown took a small step forward last season with four touchdowns 18 more targets and 10 more catches. That only added up to just over 150 yards though, and happened when Kelvin Benjamin was hurt. Brown will not likely be a factor unless injuries strike again.

Panthers | Two rookie CBs may start for Carolina    Mon Aug 22, 06:39 PM

Carolina Panthers CBs Daryl Worley and James Bradberry appear to be on track to start in Week 1. CB Bene Benwikere likely will be the nickel back if he does not start.

Footballguys view: They have a great front seven, but these rookie corners are a concern. If they're exposed, fantasy owners will want to get opposing WRs in the lineup.

Panthers | Greg Olsen returns Monday    Mon Aug 22, 03:51 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22. The extent of Olsen's participation was not disclosed.

Panthers | Devin Funchess pushing Kelvin Benjamin    Mon Aug 22, 03:14 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess has really impressed wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl this offseason. Proehl said Funchess is playing at a level that is forcing WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) to keep up and get better. 'To be honest with you, where Devin is right now and where Kelvin needs to get to, I think Devin is pushing Kelvin,' Proehl said. 'He's realizing, 'I've got to get back, I've got to push, because [Funchess] is pretty dang good.' Proehl did admit that Benjamin is still fully recovering from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, however.

Footballguys view: Benjamin's current ADP (WR21) is a little high for our taste. However, we love scooping up Funchess at his current ADP (WR49). The second-year pro has a similar game to Benjamin, and they may put up numbers that are similar in 2016. Keep an eye as Funchess and Benjamin continue to battle for targets.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen's (back) MRI on his ailing back came back negative, according to head coach Ron Rivera, but Olsen is still dealing with a big spasm.

Footballguys view: Back problems are nothing to mess around with. The Panthers will be wise with their star TE so that he can be as close to full strength as possible by the start of the regular season.

Panthers | No brace for Kelvin Benjamin    Thu Aug 18, 04:11 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) doesn't plan on wearing a brace to protect the torn anterior cruciate ligament he's healing from. Benjamin said a brace feels uncomfortable. Head coach Ron Rivera agrees with the decision.

Footballguys view: There is some risk to this, as if he discards it too early he could re-injure his leg, but you don't want your best receiver to be uncomfortable. We think Benjamin could have a very nice season, but we'll have to see how he can move and how he fits into the offense now that he's healthy (and with WR Devin Funchess emerging). We see him as a WR2/WR3 style guy this season.

Panthers | Devin Funchess to be the top dog?    Mon Aug 15, 11:21 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess could outperform WR Kelvin Benjamin this season, according to beat writer David Newton.

Footballguys view: Benjamin is still not up to game shape and Funchess has had one of the best offseasons of any Panther this year. There's no reason that they should be 100 picks apart in ADP right now.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) did not practice Monday, Aug. 15, due to back spasms he suffered Sunday, Aug. 14.

Panthers | Kawann Short not getting extension?    Thu Aug 11, 07:08 PM

Carolina Panthers DT Kawann Short's conversations with the team over a contract extension have gone nowhere and are considered to be 'effectively dead.' There's not much hope of the two sides striking a deal.

Footballguys view: The market at defensive tackle has been set high this year. Short could be franchise tagged next offseason.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin will be limited    Mon Aug 8, 07:40 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) will receive limited snaps during the first preseason game because he still coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: The Panthers don't need to rush anything here. We may see Benjamin limited in the first two games of the preseason. So long as he's ready by Week 1 of the regular season is all that matters.

Panthers | Corey Brown out of practice    Thu Aug 4, 11:34 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (ankle) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 4, after rolling his ankle the previous day.

Footballguys view: Brown is already far behind Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess, and he's losing his chance to beat out Ted Ginn, which really should just involve showing up with your cleats on the right feet. He's not worthy of a roster spot on your fantasy squad.

Panthers | Devin Funchess impressing    Tue Aug 2, 10:31 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess is having an outstanding training camp, according to beat writer Jonathan Jones. Funchess is playing several roles, including slot receiver, with WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) back this season.

Footballguys view: Funchess had a great spring and appears to have carried it over to the summer. His ADP is usually at least 7-8 rounds after Kelvin Benjamin, but it sounds like Benjamin and Funchess could have similar fantasy value this year.

Panthers | Cam Newton altering cadence    Mon Aug 1, 02:33 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and the rest of the offense are changing their pre-snap terminology this season to prevent defenses picking up on their play calling.

Footballguys view: Teams should be doing this every year. Newton is entrenched as the #1 fantasy quarterback on the board.

Panthers | Cameron Artis-Payne impressing    Sun Jul 31, 10:54 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne's speed has been impressive early in training camp.

Footballguys view: Artis-Payne is trying to hold off Brandon Wegher to back up Jonathan Stewart, a role that could see multiple starts if Stewart's injury history is any indicator. Artis-Payne wasn't overly impressive in his late season opportunity last year, but he still managed two double-digit PPR point games in the three Stewart missed Weeks 15-17.

Panthers | Kony Ealy may have concussion    Sun Jul 31, 10:10 AM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers DE Kony Ealy (head) is currently going through the concussion protocol, according to head coach Ron Rivera. He observed a helmet-to-helmet hit during practice Saturday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Ealy came on strong last year and he is needed to lead the edge rush this year. The concussion shouldn't keep him out for long in camp, but if it does, or if he suffers another concussion in season, it will be a blow to a defense that lost Josh Norman this offseason.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin receives day off     Sun Jul 31, 09:36 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) received the day off from practice Sunday, July 31.

Footballguys view: Benjamin avoided the PUP list in his recovery from an ACL tear suffered in camp last year. He will have stiffer competition for catches in 2016 than he had in 2014. This day off is typical for a player coming back from an ACL, so don't let it affect your ranking, but know that Benjamin needs to build some positive momentum in a better pass offense than the one he left last year.

Panthers | Luke Kuechly nearly full strength    Sat Jul 30, 07:25 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly (shoulder) said his left shoulder has nearly returned to full strength. He'll continue to wear the harness that he wore in the playoffs, but he hopes to shed it by the season opener.

Footballguys view: The opener is against the Broncos, and the Panthers will be looking for revenge after losing Super Bowl 50 to Denver. Kuechly should be out of the harness by that time, and he should be back to flying all over the field.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin close to 100%    Thu Jul 28, 10:55 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) is close to top form, head coach Ron Rivera said Saturday, July 30, and wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl said he has been impressed by Benjamin's ability to make contested catches.

Footballguys view: Looks like the torn ACL is not a factor, so Benjamin should be prime for a great WR2 kind of season. The offense struggled at times without him, so expect Cam Newton to use him early and often.

Panthers | Corey Brown adds weight    Thu Jul 28, 11:42 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (shoulder) said he added 20 pounds after working out and rehabbing his shoulder all offseason.

Footballguys view: Brown is looking to find a role. He played well a few times last season, but was left in the dust by Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn. With the return of Kelvin Benjamin, Brown's touches are bound to reduce further. Right now he's worth no more than a flier late in your fantasy drafts.

Panthers | Luke Kuechly cleared    Wed Jul 27, 06:14 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly (shoulder) has been cleared to participate in practice, but head coach Ron Rivera said Kuechly likely will be eased back into practice.

Footballguys view: He went under the knife back in February, and the team was always confident that their superstar LB would be ready for the start of camp. Here we are...and Kuechly is ready.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin ready to practice    Wed Jul 27, 06:05 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) has been cleared to participate in practice, but head coach Ron Rivera said Benjamin likely will be eased back into practice.

Footballguys view: Benjamin is a low-end WR2 for fantasy owners, but make sure to monitor that ADP as we get closer to draft time. His draft position has been getting a bit higher as of late, so make sure he doesn't get taken too soon in your draft. The Panthers are going to target him early and often, but TE Greg Olsen will get his and second-year WR Devin Funchess could also be more involved.
