Panthers | D.J. Moore safe for now    Tue Oct 16, 06:28 AM

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore is not yet in danger of being benched, according to head coach Ron Rivera, despite fumbling twice in the team's Week 6 loss Sunday, Oct. 14, opposite the Washington Redskins. 'We're trying to develop a football team,' Rivera said. 'I'm not too concerned about punishing players for making mistakes as much as we are about developing them and making sure they're learning and growing and being able to go forward with them. That's the idea behind that.'

Footballguys view: Despite those two fumbles, the team stuck with Moore and his role should continue to grow. He could have his best game yet against the vulnerable Eagles secondary this week.

Panthers | No setbacks for Greg Olsen    Sun Oct 14, 04:28 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) returned with four catches and 48 yards on seven targets in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: Olsen made it through the game without incident and appears to be back among the TE1 ranks. He'll be worth a start against the Eagles next week.

Panthers | D.J. Moore targeted five times    Sun Oct 14, 04:22 PM

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore posted four receptions for 59 yards on five targets in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins, but he also lost a pair of fumbles.

Footballguys view: Moore's involvement is increasing, but so are his mistakes. He's worth a bench stash in longer bench leagues, but isn't ready for lineups yet.

Panthers | Devin Funchess posts 74 yards, TD    Sun Oct 14, 04:19 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess racked up five receptions for a game-high 74 yards on eight targets in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: Funchess had one of the strongest plays on the ball in flight on his career and still looked like a #1 in a suddenly crowded passing game. He'll be worth a WR3/Flex start against the Eagles next week.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey goes nowhere on ground    Sun Oct 14, 04:17 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed eight times for 20 yards in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins while adding seven grabs for 46 yards on eight targets.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey salvaged a contribution in PPR leagues with his receptions as the Panthers were on the comeback trail, but still had to deal with a deeper group of targets splitting up the passing pie. He'll be more of an RB2 than RB1 against the Eagles next week.

Panthers | Cam Newton comes up short in D.C.    Sun Oct 14, 04:13 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 27-of-40 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins and he rushed for a team-best 43 yards on nine carries while also completing a pass for a two-point conversion.

Footballguys view: Newton had a solid passing day with the return of Greg Olsen and a deep wide receiver corps, but couldn't get the Panthers over the hump at Washington. He'll face a vulnerable Eagles secondary next week.

Panthers | Greg Olsen expected to start Week 6    Sat Oct 13, 05:34 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is expected to play in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins, and the plan is for him to be in the starting lineup, a source said Saturday, Oct. 13.

Footballguys view: Olsen's foot injury is going to require surgery after the season but he's back now and ready as he'll ever be this season. The tight end position is brutal this year for Fantasy GMs, but a clearly less-than-100-percent Olsen is a TE2 in Week 6.

Carolina Panthers DE Marquis Haynes (non-injury) will not travel with the team for their Week 6 game and has been ruled out.

Panthers | Thomas Davis activated    Sat Oct 13, 01:19 AM

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis was activated from the exempt list on Friday, Oct. 12. To create a spot on the 53-man roster, LB Jared Norris (toe) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Footballguys view: Getting Davis back should boost the Panthers defense. He was close to retiring this offseason but decided to come back. Davis may not be the same player he used to be but he's a tough leader with a nose for the ball.

Panthers | Greg Olsen listed as questionable    Fri Oct 12, 01:34 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) has been listed as questionable for Week 6 versus the Washington Redskins, although head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Friday, Oct. 12, that he likes Olsen's chances to play.

Footballguys view: If Olsen plays he's worth a start because of the weak competition at the tight end position, but it's certainly possible that he doesn't look like himself, or gets fewer targets than usual in his first week back. The Panthers offense has four viable wide receiver targets and Christian McCaffery.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was listed as a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 11, and offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he remains on target to return and play in Sunday's Week 6 game against the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: Olsen should be back this week and should be in your lineup unless you have an obviously better option at the thin tight end position.

Panthers | Greg Olsen a limited participant    Wed Oct 10, 06:14 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Footballguys view: It looks like Olsen is on track to play in Week 6. He's been out since injuring his foot (again) in Week 1. Olsen will need surgery after the season so he's clearly not 100 percent upon his return this week. Fantasy GMs need to proceed with caution when considering Olsen....look at him as a low-end TE1 against Washington.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) anticipates returning to action in Week 6 but also believes he will require a second surgery for his Jones fracture, according to Joe Person of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Olsen's foot injury has been problematic over the last two seasons. He could return but obviously won't be 100 percent healthy. Fantasy GMs should temper their expectations upon Olsen's return.

Panthers | Greg Olsen could return    Mon Oct 8, 10:24 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) could return this week, according to head coach Ron Rivera. He could practice as early as Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Footballguys view: Olsen will attempt to play through his foot injury, although he'll likely need surgery when the season is over. He'll be worth a TE1 start any time he is active, but his situation is precarious.
