Panthers | Re-sign Tauren Poole    Tue Sep 30, 05:51 PM

The Carolina Panthers re-signed RB Tauren Poole to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Footballguys view: Poole is a natural runner with good balance and vision. He's bounced on and off the Panthers roster during his pro career. Poole is only worth monitoring in super super deep dynasty leagues.

The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent LB Horace Miller (Seahawks) Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Panthers | Frank Alexander reinstated    Mon Sep 29, 07:54 PM

The Carolina Panthers reinstated DE Frank Alexander Monday, Sept. 29, after he served his four-game suspension. He won't count toward the 53-man roster limit for one week.

Panthers | Panthers adding Chris Ogbonnaya    Mon Sep 29, 06:49 PM

The Carolina Panthers will sign free-agent RB Chris Ogbonnaya (Browns).

Footballguys view: Yes! Our man "Silent G" is back in the NFL. He's a running back/fullback 'tweener who can produce as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. The Panthers are desperate at the running back position because Mike Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are all banged up.

Panthers | Cam Newton to be more involved    Mon Sep 29, 02:22 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is getting healthy enough for the team to expand their offense, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Newton has only rushed for 33 yards on eight carries in the last three games but accounted for 31.1 percent of the team's rushing yards in the past three seasons.

Footballguys view: We'll see what the Panthers can do to jump-start the offense. Newton hasn't looked like his old self, and the team lacks punch offensively. It doesn't help that Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert and DeAngelo Williams are all banged up.

Panthers | Will look at available RBs    Mon Sep 29, 01:47 PM

The Carolina Panthers will take a look at the running backs available in free agency because of the injuries they have at the position, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The team also hopes RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) will be ready to play in Week 5.

Panthers | Darrin Reaves expected to start    Mon Sep 29, 01:35 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Darrin Reaves is expected to be the team's starting running back in Week 5 because of the injuries to RBs DeAngelo Williams (ankle) and Jonathan Stewart (knee).

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams doubtful    Mon Sep 29, 12:46 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) is doubtful to play in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Williams is still sore, but he doesn't have any structural damage.

Footballguys view: Darrin Reaves looks like he's in line to start in Week 5 against the Bears. Reaves is a fast back with quick burst and good acceleration. The problem for him is running after contact. He'll run into the pile and immediately get brought down. Even with a starter's workload we can't see him as anything more than a flex play.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams likely to sit    Mon Sep 29, 09:23 AM

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) is 'week to week', but his status for Week 5 against the Chicago Bears is in serious doubt.

Footballguys view: The Panthers have big trouble at the running back spot here. With Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert all banged up, we could see Darrin Reaves in as a primary back for the Panthers against the Bears. Reaves gets to top speed in a hurry, but he struggles to make yards after contact.

Panthers | More tests for DeAngelo Williams    Sun Sep 28, 11:40 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in the Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to a league source. Williams will be evaluated further Monday, Sept. 29.

Footballguys view: Williams injury will probably be enough to keep him out against the Bears next week, so Darrin Reaves could get his first NFL start.

Panthers | Greg Olsen held in check    Sun Sep 28, 05:52 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (calf) was active in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens, but he was limited to two receptions for 30 yards. Olsen was targeted five times in the loss.

Footballguys view: Olsen will have more days like if the Panthers continue to struggle as an offense. He doesn't offer the weekly upside of the top options, but he is usually reliable when it comes to having a higher weekly floor than this.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin scores again    Sun Sep 28, 05:50 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) was able to play in the Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, and he finished with five receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. He was targeted a team-high nine times.

Footballguys view: Benjamin had another touchdown overturned by replay, and his rookie status is keeping him in games and adding stats during garbage time. He appears to be a solid WR2, especially on a team with a quickly dwindling running game.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams wearing cast    Sun Sep 28, 05:39 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) left the Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a right ankle injury, and he was wearing a walking cast after the game.

Footballguys view: Darrin Reaves could draw the start against the Bears next week, but the Panthers running game didn't look promising against the Ravens this week.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams injured    Sun Sep 28, 02:59 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the team's Week 4 game and will not return.

Footballguys view: Tauren Poole was called up this week, and he'll presumably share the backfield with UDFA Darrin Reaves, who is getting most of the work in Williams' stead this week, although the whole Panthers team is laying an egg.

Panthers | Make two roster moves    Sat Sep 27, 01:38 PM

The Carolina Panthers have signed RB Tauren Poole to the active roster from their practice squad and placed OT Garry Williams (back) on Reserve/Injured Saturday, Sept. 27.

Footballguys view: The Panthers had to do something at running back. Both Mike Tolbert and Jonathan Stewart are out for the foreseeable future (Tolbert on IR/Designated to Return). That leaves banged up DeAngelo Williams as the starter, but there's little depth behind him. Poole is an instinctive runner who can make his living between the tackles, but he's best used in space. He'll compete with Darrin Reaves for touches/time as a backup runner.

Panthers | Friday injury report for Week 4    Fri Sep 26, 03:16 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Jerricho Cotchery (thigh), CB Charles Godfrey (ankle) and FS Roman Harper (knee) all fully participated in practice and are probable for Week 4. LB Thomas Davis (hip) was limited in practice and is questionable. RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) and OT Garry Williams (back) both did not practice and are doubtful.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams probable    Fri Sep 26, 03:16 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 26, and is probable for Week 4.

Footballguys view: Williams should get enough touches to be a solid RB2, and the fact that he's probable means that the Panthers aren't forcing him back into the lineup because they have to. We'll still be watching UDFA Darrin Reaves to see if he can get his foot in the door for the wide open long-term backfield situation in Carolina.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart questionable    Fri Sep 26, 01:29 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) returned to practice Friday, Sept. 26, but is questionable for Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. It looks like Stewart is a long shot to play this weekend.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart practices    Fri Sep 26, 11:57 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) practiced Friday, Sept. 26, for the first time this week. According to Joe Person, Stewart 'didn't look particularly spry.' Person said he would 'still be surprised' if Stewart plays in Week 4.

Footballguys view: DeAngelo Williams remains a decent flex play as the likely focus of the rushing game against the Ravens this weekend.

Panthers | Thursday practice report    Thu Sep 25, 04:32 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) and OT Garry Williams (back) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 25. LB Thomas Davis (hip) was limited. WR Jerricho Cotchery (thigh), CB Charles Godfrey (ankle) and SS Roman Harper (knee) were full participants.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams participates fully    Thu Sep 25, 04:29 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 25.

Footballguys view: Williams should be good to go and we see him as a RB3 - it's not a good matchup plus the injury and overall shaky offense make him a spotty start.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart sits    Thu Sep 25, 12:25 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is not participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 25.

Footballguys view: We're expecting DeAngelo Williams aka Big Money D aka The Only RB Standing to get the start and most of the carries unless his legs fall off which, given the state of the Carolina backfield, isn't that farfetched. We see Williams as a good RB3 assuming the hamstring doesn't catch on fire.

Panthers | Tauren Poole signs    Thu Sep 25, 10:54 AM

The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent RB Tauren Poole (Steelers) to the practice squad Thursday, Sept. 25. RB Lache Seastrunk was released.

Footballguys view: We've always liked Poole in super super deep dynasty leagues. He's never gotten a real shot to prove himself, but he's a natural runner with the willingness to run inside.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams a full go    Wed Sep 24, 04:23 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Footballguys view: He's on track to play in Week 4. Williams will get a featured workload as the team is down both Mike Tolbert and Jonathan Stewart. That makes him a RB3 with upside for fantasy owners.

Panthers | Wednesday practice report for Week 4    Wed Sep 24, 04:02 PM

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams on the field    Wed Sep 24, 01:12 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hamstring) is participating in practice Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Footballguys view: The Panthers backfield is a mess right now. Williams is getting healthy, but both Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert are out. We like Williams as a low-end RB3/flex play in Week 4 against the Ravens.

Panthers | Mike Tolbert placed on IR    Tue Sep 23, 07:14 PM

Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert (knee) has been placed on the Reserve Injured/Designated for Return list Tuesday, Sept. 23, with a hairline fracture in his knee. Tolbert will not be able to rejoin the team until Week 13.

Panthers | Mike Tolbert won't need surgery    Tue Sep 23, 01:14 PM

Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert (leg) will not need surgery to fix the hairline fracture in his left leg, but he could miss four to eight weeks.

Footballguys view: More bad news in the Panthers backfield here. Tolbert is a TD vulture, so we could see a slight uptick for Cam Newton's rushing touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams is set to be the lead back provided he can come back from his thigh injury. Jonathan Stewart could miss a month with a knee injury.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart could miss a month    Tue Sep 23, 09:02 AM

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) could miss a month due to his sprained knee, in the opinion of beat writer Joseph Person.

Footballguys view: More bad news for the Panthers backfield here. Without Stewart (and fullback Mike Tolbert), the workload could get turned over to DeAngelo Williams (thigh)....IF he's capable of playing in Week 4. If not, then we'll see more Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker.

Panthers | Mike Tolbert has fracture    Mon Sep 22, 03:01 PM

Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert (leg) has a hairline fracture in his leg. The timetable for his return is unknown.

Footballguys view: The Panthers have enough problems on the ground game without this injury. We could see guys like Fozzy Whittaker and Darrin Reaves get more playing time with all these injuries in the Panthers backfield.

Panthers | Thomas Davis likely out Week 4    Mon Sep 22, 02:46 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (hamstring) could very well miss Week 4. Davis will not practice Wednesday, Sept. 24, or Thursday, Sept. 25.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart likely to miss Week 4    Mon Sep 22, 02:41 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) could very well miss Week 4 with a severely sprained right knee. Stewart will not practice until Friday, Sept. 26 this week, which usually means a player isn't expected to play the following game.

Footballguys view: More bad news for the Panthers backfield. Mike Tolbert and DeAngelo Williams are both dealing with injuries as well. This means the Panthers could be down to guys like Fozzy Whittaker and Darrin Reaves. It's bad news for a banged up Cam Newton.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams may return    Mon Sep 22, 01:40 PM

The Carolina Panthers are hoping RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) will be able to participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 24.
