Panthers | No progress for Cam Newton extension    Fri Oct 31, 02:02 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and the team have made no progress in talks about a contract extension since discussing it before the season. Both sides hope to have something done in the offseason, however.

Panthers | Cam Newton struggles again    Fri Oct 31, 01:56 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton had the worst statistical game of his career in the Week 9 loss to the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 30, completing just 10 of 28 passes for 151 yards with no touchdowns and one interception (he also ran a TD in). Newton posted career lows in completions, completion percentage (35.7) and passer rating (39.4). He was sacked four times and also lost a fumble.

Footballguys view: Newton missed high all night and didn't seem to be in sync with his receivers. He was much better as a passer earlier this year, and he should have a better time of it next week against the Eagles vulnerable secondary. He's a boom/bust QB1 heading into the second half of the season.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams doesn't do much    Fri Oct 31, 12:22 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams had only eight carries for 20 yards in the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 30, in his first game back after missing four straight contests with an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Williams showed a good burst on his long reception, but the Panthers offense, running game, and committee backfield will make it hard for him to be more than a desperation play from here on out. Next week at Philadelphia doesn't offer more promise as a matchup than this week's game at home against New Orleans.

Panthers | Sign Darrin Reaves    Thu Oct 30, 07:25 PM

The Carolina Panthers re-signed RB Darrin Reaves to their practice squad Thursday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: Reaves saw some playing time earlier this year, but with both Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams healthy, the team could safely put him on the practice squad.

Panthers | Week 9 Inactives    Thu Oct 30, 07:12 PM

The Carolina Panthers have declared OG Amini Silatolu, CB Bene Benwikere, OT Byron Bell, RB Fozzy Whittaker, WR Philly Brown, FS Thomas DeCoud, OG Trai Turner inactive for Week 9.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to start    Thu Oct 30, 01:42 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) will start the team's Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 30, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: Carolina has been poor running the ball and we don't expect more than RB3 numbers and low-end ones at best. He'll still be splitting time with Jonathan Stewart against the Saints.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams listed as probable    Wed Oct 29, 02:50 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 29, and is listed as probable for Week 9.

Footballguys view: Sweet....but only if you play in deeper leagues. Even with six teams on bye, there may not be enough production there for Williams to be startable for fantasy owners. He's going to split time with Jonathan Stewart, plus he'll lose out on some goal line opportunities to QB Cam Newton. He's a RB4/deep flex play in Week 9.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams limited     Tue Oct 28, 06:29 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Footballguys view: Williams should be back this week. However, he's returning to a backfield where he'll split time with Jonathan Stewart. The Panthers play the Saints at home on Thursday night, and we can only recommend Williams as a low-end RB3/flex play.

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) was limited during the team's walkthrough Monday, Oct. 27.

Footballguys view: It looks like Williams should be back on the field in Week 9. The Panthers play the Saints at home on Thursday night. Williams will split time with Jonathan Stewart, and he's nothing more than a low-end flex play for fantasy owners.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams expected to play    Mon Oct 27, 01:31 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) is expected to play in Week 9, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: Williams may be back, but he'll still be splitting time with Jonathan Stewart. We liked the way Stewart looked in Week 8 against Seattle. Williams is only a flex play (at best) so long as both backs are healthy.

The Carolina Panthers have declared OG Amini Silatolu, CB Bene Benwikere, LB Chase Blackburn, RB DeAngelo Williams, RB Fozzy Whittaker, WR Philly Brown inactive for Week 8.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams ruled out    Fri Oct 24, 01:34 PM

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams out again    Thu Oct 23, 04:26 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) didn't practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: You know what would be news? If Williams wasn't out. Maybe that's the bar to set for whether Williams is newsworthy. Last week Jonathan Stewart was awful and he faces a Seattle defense which, even a shadow of its 2013 self, is still enough to keep him as no more than a weak RB3.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams sitting out    Wed Oct 22, 12:45 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Footballguys view: Sure, Williams could be back this week...maybe, possibly, perhaps. Fantasy owners really want to avoid the Carolina backfield if at all possible. Even Jonathan Stewart is nothing more than a RB3/flex play in Week 8 against the Seahawks.

Carolina Panthers CB Bene Benwikere (ankle) will return as the starting nickel cornerback when he's back from his injury, according to head coach Ron Rivera. If Benwikere can't play in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, then CB James Dockery could get a look in that position.

Panthers | Releasing Charles Godfrey    Tue Oct 21, 03:10 PM

The Carolina Panthers released CB Charles Godfrey Tuesday, Oct 21.

Footballguys view: Godfrey suffered an Achilles' injury last year that knocked him out for most of the 2013 season. He's struggled to make an impact this year at both slot corner and safety for the Panthers. There might be some team willing to take a chance on Godfrey going forward.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to return this week?    Mon Oct 20, 02:49 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) will reportedly return to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Footballguys view: Williams could come back, but fantasy owners are best off leaving him out of the lineup. He'll be splitting time with Jonathan Stewart, and we can't recommend him as anything more than a 'what the heck' flex in deep leagues.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin travels with team    Sat Oct 18, 07:22 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (concussion) traveled with the team and is on track to play Sunday, Oct. 19, in Week 7.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to miss Week 7    Sat Oct 18, 12:48 PM

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 7.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin still not cleared    Sat Oct 18, 12:43 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (concussion) still needs to pass one more concussion tests before being cleared to play in Week 7.

Footballguys view: If he plays--and it's still a big if--we see him as a low-end WR3 this week. If he doesn't play, Cotchery gets a little bump into a more solid WR5 but the bulk of targets will go to Greg Olsen who is a top TE1 this week.

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 17. He is listed as questionable for Week 7.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 17, and is listed as probable for Week 7.

Footballguys view: Consider Stewart a "what the heck flex" as the Panthers running game has been stuck in neutral. He could have a solid stat line on sheer volume against the porous Packers run defense, although Cam Newton is more likely to score on the ground at the goal line now that he's healthy.
