San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (hip), DE Nick Bosa (hamstring) and LB Kwon Alexander (knee) are expected to be ready for training camp after missing some offseason workouts because of injuries.

Footballguys view: Bosa's injury was disappointing after he barely played last year due to a core muscle injury. His health will be one of the biggest stories of training camp for the team. Alexander's health is also key for a team that is trying to find traction on defense.

'I come in thinking I'm gonna hunt,'' Golden told the New York Post. 'I'm hunting, every play, any time I'm on the field, every third down, first down, I'm hunting. When you think like that and work like that in practice every day, the results got to come. That's what I always believed. It always worked out for me to just work my butt off every day and don't worry about nothing else, it's gonna come.''

Redskins | Reuben Foster placed on IR    Wed May 22, 05:34 PM

Washington Redskins LB Reuben Foster (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Foster goes down without ever playing a snap for Washington. We'll see how much damage was done to his knee as he'll take a year or more to fully recover. Foster's NFL future is very much in doubt, especially if the reports about artery damage in his leg are true.

Chargers | Denzel Perryman medical update    Wed May 22, 02:34 AM

Los Angeles Chargers LB Denzel Perryman (knee) indicated he expects to be ready to go at 100 percent in time for training camp, though the team's medical staff will make the final determination on that.

Footballguys view: Perryman is a talented player but he's never played a full 16-game season in the pros. In fact, he's just logged 16 games total over the last two seasons. In 2018, LCL and hamstring issues landed Perryman on Injured Reserve after just nine games. Perryman may be ready to go 100 percent by training camp, but we'd imagine the Chargers are going to ease him back into action.

Seahawks | Bobby Wagner looking for big contract    Tue May 21, 08:03 PM

Seattle Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner said he wants to sign a new contract that is better than the five-year, $85 million contract New York Jets LB C.J. Mosley signed this offseason. Wagner is attending the organized team activities but will not participate in practice because of his contract situation.

Footballguys view: It's a good faith move for Wagner to be there. Reports say Wagner is not open to taking a hometown discount, and with the way linebackers got paid in free agency that's not a bad move. Wagner is in the final year of his deal and Seattle has expressed interest in getting him a new deal. According to OverTheCap.com, the Seahawks have around $23.9 million in effective cap space at this time.

NFL | Gerald Hodges resuming career    Tue May 21, 01:30 PM

Free-agent LB Gerald Hodges (Cardinals) has decided to resume his career, according to a source, after announcing his retirement in April. He is reportedly drawing interest from several teams.

Footballguys view: Hodges had 55 tackles for the Cardinals last year and could be at least quality veteran depth for any team that signs him. His best days were back with the 49ers under then defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Now that Fangio is the head coach of the Broncos, perhaps they would be one of the teams showing interest.

Redskins | Reuben Foster injury update    Mon May 20, 08:16 PM

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins LB Reuben Foster (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during practice Monday, May 20, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Foster's 2019 season is now over. Washington picked up Foster on waivers last year once the 49ers were done with him due to off field issues. He'll now work back from this ACL injury and hope to be ready for the 2020 season.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins LB Reuben Foster (knee) is believed to have suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament during the team's first organized team activity Monday, May 20.

Footballguys view: Reports indicate Foster was sobbing as he was carted off the practice field. Washington claimed Foster off waivers after the 49ers got rid of him after six games in the 2018 season. The 2017 first-round pick spent the remainder of 2018 on the Commissioner's Exempt List. He has been arrested twice on domestic violence charges and was trying to get his career back on track with a fresh start in Washington. Now, if this is a torn ACL, Foster will likely miss the 2019 season.

Foster is reportedly undergoing an MRI after stepping on the foot of an offensive lineman as he rushed a gap at three-quarters speed, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: Reporters on the scene are saying that Foster was sobbing as he was being carted away. That sounds like a serious knee injury, but official word should come in the near future.

Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith has begun talks with the team on a contract extension, according to sources.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Smith is in the final year of his rookie contract. The Cowboys have a lot of big contract to look at with guys like QB Dak Prescott and WR Amari Cooper coming up. Smith won't get a huge contract and may have to take a team-friendly deal.

Ravens | Shane Ray headed to Ravens    Fri May 17, 09:24 AM

Free-agent DE Shane Ray (Broncos) agreed to an undisclosed deal, pending a physical, with the Baltimore Ravens Friday, May 17.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick of the Broncos in the 2015 NFL draft, Ray only played one full 16-game season in Denver. When he did, Ray was quite productive with 8.5 sacks. Nagging injuries, including a wrist injury that bothered him for around two seasons, set in with Ray and he was never the same. If healthy, Ray has good burst and a nose for the quarterback. We'll see if a fresh start in Baltimore gets Ray's career back on track.

The New York Jets have agreed to trade LB Darron Lee to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Well that didn't take long. Adam Gase took over as the interim General Manager on Wednesday and gets rid of Lee the same day. The Jets declined picking up the fifth-year option for Lee earlier this season and spent a ton of money to secure the services of ILB C.J. Mosley in free agency.

Chiefs | Kansas City acquires Darron Lee    Wed May 15, 09:40 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to acquire LB Darron Lee from the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs have been working diligently this offseason to revamp their defense. Lee has been a disappointment so far during his pro career, but we'll see if a fresh start in a contract year helps turn things around for the 2016 first-round pick.

Patriots | Jamie Collins joining NE    Wed May 15, 05:38 PM

Free-agent LB Jamie Collins (Browns) agreed to terms with the New England Patriots Wednesday, May 15. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Collins returns to the Patriots after being traded from there to Cleveland in 2016. A second-round pick of the Patriots in 2013, Collins has not looked the same with the Browns. He's an effective player under Bill Belichick and might have a bounce-back season now that he's back in the fold.

Ravens | Pernell McPhee may be option    Wed May 15, 02:35 PM

Free-agent LB Pernell McPhee (Redskins) is a player that the Baltimore Ravens are considering signing.

Footballguys view: McPhee appeared in 13 games last year for Washington, compiling just 11 tackles, one fumble recovery and two passes defensed. A fifth-round pick for the Ravens back in 2011, McPhee was with the team for four seasons. He could come back to Baltimore as a part-time outside linebacker.

Patriots | Jamie Collins headed back to Patriots?    Wed May 15, 01:31 PM

Free-agent LB Jamie Collins (Browns) is in serious talks with the New England Patriots Wednesday, May 15.

Footballguys view: The Browns released Collins in early March and he's garnered little interest on the open market. The Patriots are the team that traded him to the Browns in the first place and it would be just like them to take a flier on a player they know well. Collins won't get a big deal but he could get a shot with the Patriots again in the near future.
