Bears | Alshon Jeffery misses practice    Mon Aug 3, 01:55 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 3, because he suffered a sprained AC joint in his shoulder over the weekend.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to keep an eye on this situation. The team does not believe Jeffery's injury is serious. We'll know more about this injury in the near future.

Bears | No timetable for Kevin White    Mon Aug 3, 01:54 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list and there is no timetable for his return, according to head coach John Fox. Fox said he considers White day-to-day at this time.

Footballguys view: The team is going to take it easy with their potential star rookie. On the PUP list during camp, the Bears can activate him at any time. If healthy, White could win the WR2 job opposite Alshon Jeffery this year. Right now, Eddie Royal is in that spot.

Bears | Kevin White making progress    Sat Aug 1, 06:06 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) has been doing some cardio work, according to head coach John Fox Saturday, Aug. 1, and White is making progress.

Footballguys view: White should end up as one of the best receivers in this draft class. He's fast, quick and can toy with defenders in the open field. This shin problem has slowed him down in camp, and this has slowed his development. He could end up as the WR2 opposite Alshon Jeffery in Chicago. Eddie Royal is best suited to play as their slot receiver.

Chicago Bears OT Jermon Bushrod (back) and CB Kyle Fuller (ankle) missed and attended practice, respectively, Saturday, Aug. 1.

Bears | Martellus Bennett confident    Thu Jul 30, 10:54 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett said he isn't worried about his production declining because of the time he missed while protesting his contract. 'Some terminology and still learning some things like that, but overall ... I don't think anyone has the offense down,' Bennett said Thursday, July 30. 'I may be a leg behind, but I'm a pretty quick learner.'

Footballguys view: Bennett is nothing but confident. He's going to be a TE1 for fantasy owners, especially in an Adam Gase offense.

Bears | Kevin White's injury not serious    Thu Jul 30, 01:46 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White's (shin) shin injury is not believed to be a long-term issue, according to head coach John Fox.

Footballguys view: Good news for the rookie here. We're excited to watch White in the preseason, and he's got the upside to eventually be one of the best wide receivers in the game. Fox may not be giddy when it comes to playing rookies, but White is so good he could play a larger role than other rookies have under this regime.

Bears | Jay Cutler impressing coaches    Wed Jul 29, 08:52 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has impressed head coach John Fox with his attitude off the field, but Fox maintained that they're in a performance-based business, Wednesday, July 29. 'No matter what we say about anybody, it's gonna come down to how we perform on Sundays or Mondays or whenever they line us up,' said Fox. Cutler also spoke highly of Fox, and said he appreciates Fox's straight-shooting demeanor.

Footballguys view: This could be Cutler's last season in Chicago if he doesn't start listening to his coaches. Nobody denies Cutler's arm talent, but he's yet to play up to his potential because of bad habits he neglects to fix. We'll see if he can get on the same page with OC Adam Gase this year and salvage his Bears career.

Bears | Jordan Mills ready for 2015    Wed Jul 29, 08:47 PM

Chicago Bears RT Jordan Mills (appendix) said Wednesday, July 29, he has added muscle to his upper body, after having his appendix removed in early June. Mills said he has a chip on his shoulder ahead of a very pivotal 2015 season.

Bears | David Fales goes to PUP list    Wed Jul 29, 04:38 PM

Chicago Bears QB David Fales (shoulder) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Fales is a reserve quarterback only worth monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues. On the PUP list in camp, Fales can be activated at any time.

Bears | Kevin White to go on PUP list    Wed Jul 29, 03:18 PM

Chicago Bears rookie WR Kevin White (shin) will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to general manager Ryan Pace.

Footballguys view: The rookie is set back because of this shin injury...one that made him miss offseason workouts. He should be back soon enough, but White needs to get up to speed in the complex Adam Gase offense. We love his talent and upside, but we're concerned by John Fox and his refusal to play rookies enough. His current ADP of WR36 (8.04) presents a nice balance of upside and risk.

Bears | A.J. Cruz signed    Mon Jul 27, 06:07 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR A.J. Cruz (Brown) signed with the Chicago Bears Monday, July 27.

Footballguys view: Cruz was a kick returner/wide receiver/linebacker in the Arena League. With the Bears he'll compete to be a return man and reserve receiver.

Bears | Chicago could sign Jermaine Gresham    Fri Jul 24, 03:12 PM

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) has drawn interest from the Chicago Bears, who have supposedly talked about signing the tight end.

Footballguys view: Gresham is a talented tight end with an all-purpose skill set. He's currently recovering from offseason back surgery, but Gresham is getting interest from more than a few teams out there. We should see him find a new home near the start of training camp. If added by the Bears, Gresham would compete with Martellus Bennett for targets in the passing game.

Bears | Eddie Royal to be third starting WR?    Thu Jul 23, 04:42 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal is expected to be the Bears' third starting wide receiver, according to ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: Royal should work well under Adam Gase again. The two worked together in Denver during Royal's 91-catch rookie season. Royal is unlikely to reach that total number of catches, but he should be a reliable receiver for Jay Cutler. We could see him snaring about 40 catches this year working behind Alshon Jeffery and rookie Kevin White.

Bears | Kevin White projected to start     Thu Jul 23, 04:38 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White is slated to be in the Bears' starting lineup, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com. White had spent time with the second team during organized team activities earlier this offseason.

Footballguys view: White should be the starter for the team, but this is John Fox ladies and gentlemen...he's not the first coach we think of when it comes to playing rookies early. White's ADP of WR35 (8.01) in 12-team PPR leagues is just too good to pass up.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery working out    Sat Jul 18, 05:53 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery has been working out with former teammate and now New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall. The two remain close friends and have been working out at Fit Speed Athletic Performance in Chicago.

Footballguys view: Marshall's with another team, and now Jeffery will get to show what he can do as the top wide receiver in Chicago. We're expecting a lot from Jeffery this year under new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Jeffery is basically playing the Demaryius Thomas role in this offense....but he doesn't have Peyton Manning as his quarterback. Even with Jay Cutler under center, we believe that Jeffery can finish near the top-10 of all fantasy receivers in 2015. Last year, Jeffery was the 12th-best WR at the end of the year.

Bears | Jay Cutler running out of time    Sat Jul 18, 05:41 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler may need to win in 2015 to stay in Chicago, suggests Jeff Dickerson of ESPN. Cutler has over $47 million guaranteed remaining on his contract, but the Bears could move on if Cutler struggles again in 2015.

Footballguys view: This is most certainly a make-or-break year for Cutler. He's got to start winning and playing with more consistency if he wants to stick around in Chicago.

Bears | Eddie Royal could be returner    Thu Jul 16, 01:07 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal could be a candidate for the kick returner job this season if the coaching staff is comfortable with him in that role.

Footballguys view: Royal is going to be an asset as a receiver for the Bears as a slot guy behind Alshon Jeffery and (eventually) Kevin White. Before White is ready to go, Royal may serve as the secondary target opposite Jeffery. Either way, he's going to be able to contribute as a return man too. His current ADP in 12-team PPR leagues (WR68, 14.03) makes him an intriguing late-round flier for fantasy owners.

Bears | Matt Forte adds muscle    Thu Jul 16, 12:15 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte has bulked up this offseason in order to prepare for a heavy workload this season. Forte received a lot of work in the running and passing game last season.

Footballguys view: Forte is unlikely to catch as many passes as he did last year, but he's still going to be a cornerstone for the franchise. Under offensive coordinator Adam Gase, we should see Forte get plenty of work on the ground. He's currently coming off the board near the end of the first round in fantasy drafts.

Bears | Chicago excited to have Jeremy Langford    Tue Jul 14, 06:00 PM

Chicago Bears rookie RB Jeremy Langford offers the Bears speed they didn't have last season. Langford ran a 4.4 second 40-yard dash in the NFL Combine this offseason. Langford was taken in the fourth round and will compete with RBs Jacquizz Rodgers, Ka'Deem Carey, Daniel Thomas and Senorise Perry for backup duties to RB Matt Forte.

Footballguys view: The Bears should be excited about Langford because he's a good back with all-around ability. He's a good receiver out of the backfield, and Langford has the speed and creativity to make big plays in the open field. Langford is not going to push the pile, but he could work effectively as a change-of-pace back.

Bears | Marquess Wilson proving to be versatile    Thu Jul 9, 10:58 PM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson can 'play all over' the field, according to offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Wilson will be pushed by first-round pick Kevin White, and the reality is that White taking over is a matter of when, not if. His dynasty appeal is starting to wane.

Bears | Jeremy Langford's speed draws praise    Thu Jul 9, 10:48 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford's speed has stood out, according to general manager Ryan Pace. 'Standout trait with him is really his speed,' Pace said. 'We feel like he's got a lot of upside. He's played multiple positions, so he's still getting better as a running back. This guy's speed stands out and we're excited to have him here.'

Footballguys view: Langford is decidedly average at best in most other facets of his game, and he's still not a home run threat in NFL RB terms. He could push KaDeem Carey to back up Matt Forte, but Jacquizz Rodgers will also figure in to the mix and keep any back other than Forte from having value this year unless Forte misses significant time.

Bears | Kevin White impressing Adam Gase    Thu Jul 9, 10:00 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has impressed offensive coordinator Adam Gase with his size and explosiveness. 'Really, I see him as an outside receiver but what's dangerous about this guy, he can catch a quick slant or he can attack and go 99 yards,' Gase said. 'He has that kind of playmaking ability.'

Footballguys view: White has instant fantasy impact talent, but head coach John Fox has been reluctant to give rookies big roles over the years, and he will also be competing with Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett, Eddie Royal, and Matt Forte in an offense that will become more balanced this year. He's not the best rookie WR to target in redraft leagues.

Bears | Jay Cutler works out with teammates    Thu Jul 9, 12:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler worked out with some of his offensive teammates at Vanderbilt University this week. WR Eddie Royal, WR Kevin White and TE Martellus Bennett were among the players in attendance.

Footballguys view: Cutler is basically on his last leg in Chicago and only held onto his job because of the guaranteed money the team has invested in him that made him untradeable. Royal had his best year of his career with Cutler, and White can be an instant hit with his size, speed, and toughness, so Cutler is bringing together some of his oldest and newest weapons. He's an upside play as a QB2, but one that could be rendered worthless with a benching.

Bears | Matt Forte took step back running    Wed Jul 8, 10:13 AM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte averaged 3.9 yards per rush in 2014, which is the lowest figure since 2009.

Footballguys view: The Bears were an abysmal offense last year, but Forte still put up high RB1 numbers in PPR leagues because of the way head coach Marc Trestman favored his backs as receivers. John Fox and Adam Gase might not continue that trend as strongly, and Forte could fall to the back half of the RB1 ranks, making him a shaky pick in the top 6-8.

Bears | Kevin White talking to Larry Fitzgerald    Wed Jul 1, 09:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White sought advice from Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald at the NFL Rookie Symposium.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald's advice has helped boost more than one career via his offseason camp. That White is seeking veteran mentorship is a good sign, but expect him to come along slower than the other first round WRs in fantasy leagues because of head coach John Fox's notorious disinclination to give rookies big roles.

Bears | Eddie Royal working with QB    Mon Jun 22, 02:27 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal said he has been working with QB Jay Cutler this offseason in order to build chemistry. Royal said they have been watching extra film and doing extra work on the field.

Footballguys view: We've seen this duo before in the NFL, and they were pretty damn productive together. Royal had the best season of his career with 91 catches, 980 yards and five touchdowns when they both played for the Denver Broncos in 2008.

Bears | CHI needs group effort at WR    Sat Jun 20, 07:21 PM

The Chicago Bears will be counting on a group effort from WRs Kevin White, Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson to make up for Brandon Marshall's lost production. WR Alshon Jeffery is expected to fully takeover as the No. 1 receiver in Chicago.

Footballguys view: We'd love Kevin White more in this situation if John Fox wasn't the head coach in Chicago. Fox is a fine head coach, but he isn't known for overusing his rookies. White might have to work his way up the depth chart, and he's currently competing to be the third WR in Chicago behind Jeffery and Royal.

Bears | Kevin White should return for TC    Fri Jun 19, 05:39 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (undisclosed) should be available for training camp July 30, according to head coach John Fox. White missed all of minicamp with an undisclosed medical issue.

Footballguys view: White has incredible talent, but Bears head coach John Fox doesn't use rookies as much as he should (see Cody Latimer last year). We'll see if White can stay healthy and push Eddie Royal for the WR2 spot opposite Alshon Jefferey.

Bears | Three players waived    Thu Jun 18, 04:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Pat Devlin, TE Jacob Maxwell and PK Jeremiah Detmer were waived Thursday, June 18.

Footballguys view: Devlin followed Joe Flacco in college at Delaware, but he's struggled to find a home as a pro since he came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011. His career is likely done after barely lasting a month in Chicago.

Bears | Daniel Thomas signed    Thu Jun 18, 04:03 PM

Free-agent RB Daniel Thomas (Dolphins) signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears Thursday, June 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Bears did more than just update their emergency list by working out Thomas. He comes into a situation where he could win a roster spot behind Matt Forte. There's a lot of unproven talent behind Forte, and he has more experience than guys like Kadeem Carey and rookie Jeremy Langford. He wouldn't have any fantasy value unless he wins the primary backup job and Forte goes down with an injury.

Bears | Daniel Thomas working out in Chicago    Wed Jun 17, 11:50 AM

Free-agent RB Daniel Thomas (Dolphins) is working out with the Chicago Bears Wednesday, June 17.

Footballguys view: The Bears have given Thomas an opportunity on a tryout basis. It's a good landing spot for the veteran back who has gotten little interest on the open market. The Bears have mostly unproven players behind starter Matt Forte. John Fox knows running back talent, so we'll have to see if Thomas can do enough to impress him and the new Bears coaching staff.

Bears | Martellus Bennett at minicamp    Tue Jun 16, 08:41 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett participated in minicamp practice Tuesday, June 16, after skipping the first three weeks of organized team activities. Bennett told reporters he expects to be at training camp on reporting day in late July.

Footballguys view: Bennett didn't want to get fined, and that's why he showed up. He can now start learning the offense under new OC Adam Gase. Bennett led all tight ends last year with 90 receptions, but his numbers should dip this season with the arrival of first-round WR Kevin White and free agent WR Eddie Royal.

Bears | Jay Cutler confident in new offense    Tue Jun 16, 05:37 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he's feeling great about the offense under new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. 'I know the guys like it. I know the receivers like it,' Cutler said. 'TE Martellus Bennett is going to love it when he gets involved. We just have to keep heading in the direction we are going and keep studying. We are not where we want to be yet.'

Footballguys view: Cutler should be confident in what Gase brings to the table. This is going to be a pass-happy offense that stays aggressive no matter how the game is unfolding. It's a make-or-break season for Cutler this year. If he can quickly learn this offense and finally play up to his potential then he should stick with the Bears. If things fall apart for Cutler, the Bears might move on from the veteran quarterback in 2016.

Bears | Kevin White not at minicamp    Tue Jun 16, 02:17 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (undisclosed) did not practice at minicamp Tuesday, June 16. Head coach John Fox said White is day-to-day, but he did not disclose White's injury.

Footballguys view: White has been running with the second team up until now. We'll be able to have a better idea about his situation if/when this injury is revealed.

Bears | Martellus Bennett expected at minicamp    Mon Jun 15, 03:34 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is expected to participate in minicamp this week after skipping organized team activities in previous weeks. Bennett has wanted a new contract.

Footballguys view: Bennett skipped all the voluntary work this offseason in protest of his contract situation, but he's not going to miss the mandatory workouts (and get fined). Last year, Bennett finished the season as the 5th-best fantasy tight end. This year, his numbers will drop with the additions of free agent WR Eddie Royal and first-round WR Kevin White. Bennett has a cap number over $6.1 million this year, and getting a new deal seems like a pipe dream.

Bears | Kevin White working with second-team    Fri Jun 12, 10:36 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White spent most of his time with the second-team offense during OTAs.

Footballguys view: Good ole John Fox and his mistrust of rookies! Many a fantasy owner has been frustrated by Fox and the way he deals with first-year players. We think White forces his hand this year and carves out a sizable role for the Bears. White is the best option they have opposite Alshon Jeffery. He'll have to "earn" his job and work up to the first team in training camp. White could catch 50-60 passes this year in the Adam Gase offense.

Bears | Coach unsure of Martellus Bennett's attendance    Thu Jun 11, 02:46 AM

Chicago Bears coach John Fox is not sure whether TE Martellus Bennett will be at mandatory minicamp when it opens shortly. Bennett is pushing for a raise from the $4.9 million base he's scheduled to earn in 2015.

Footballguys view: This is a situation that bears watching as training camp approaches. Bennett wants a raise, but the Bears don't seem likely to oblige him. This may turn into a holdout situation in August. Stay tuned.

Bears | Ify Umodu signs    Mon Jun 8, 05:03 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Ify Umodu (Northern Arizona) signed an undisclosed contract with the Chicago Bears Monday, June 8.

Footballguys view: With a name like Ify Umodu we automatically put him in the starting lineup for the Black Eyed Joe All-Name Team. On a serious note, Umodu caught 136 passes for 1,883 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns during his college career at Northern Arizona. He attended the Bears rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and the team must have liked what they saw. Umodu was a star for the Lumberjacks, and he could regularly take the top off the defense. He also can make difficult catches to move the chains or in the end zone. Umodu is worth monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues.

Bears | Martellus Bennett still not at OTAs    Wed Jun 3, 04:07 PM

Bears | Matt Forte will attend training camp    Thu May 28, 09:05 AM

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte will attend training camp despite his desire for a contract extension that Chicago has declined to offer. Forte is attending organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Forte said he wasn't going to hold out, and it seems he is a man of his word. While John Fox has used a running back committee before, Forte is by far the best back on the team and should still see a ton of work. He may not get as many catches as he has the last few years now that Adam Gase is the offensive coordinator. Currently hovering at an ADP of about 1.07, Forte represents some great fantasy potential, despite the changes on the coaching staff.

Bears | Ray McDonald released    Mon May 25, 04:34 PM

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears DE Ray McDonald has been released Monday, May 25, just hours after being arrested for alleged domestic violence and child endangerment.

Footballguys view: The Bears weren't going to waste any time in this situation. McDonald had been arrested three times in the last nine months. This time, he allegedly assaulted a woman while she was holding a baby. We think the NFL drops the hammer on McDonald with a penalty that could end his NFL career.

Bears | Matt Forte in last year of contract    Wed May 20, 12:15 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte is entering the final year of his current contract, according to Spotrac.com. Forte turns 30 years old Dec. 10 and could struggle to find a full-time role in 2016 if he is unwilling to take a drastic pay cut from his current $9.2 million salary. Forte's receiving skills will endear him to a team, but he may be required to share carries.

Footballguys view: Forte is going to once again have a large role for the Bears as their lead back. The Bears have improved their offensive line this offseason, and new head coach John Fox loves to run the ball. Forte is RB5 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues that are drafting now, and his ADP should stay the same as we get closer to the regular season.

Bears | Kevin White showing versatility    Sun May 10, 11:50 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has spent time at all three receiver positions during rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: It's good to see the Bears already moving White around the formation to find the best matchups. He's an incredible talent with the speed to take the top off the defense. White is quick off the line of scrimmage, and he doesn't lose speed out of his breaks. He'll be a great weapon for the Bears opposite Alshon Jeffery.

Bears | Chicago OC comfortable with Jay Cutler    Sat May 9, 01:40 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has some familiarity with offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase and Cutler met when Cutler was still an NFL prospect, and Cutler was still with the Denver Broncos when Gase came to Denver. 'I feel comfortable with him. We have a good relationship so far and we're just going to keep working to get better,' Gase said.

Footballguys view: Gase was with the Broncos as a wide receivers coach at the time, but the two still have a previous working relationship. We like Gase's creativity when crafting an offense. In his first year as an offensive coordinator (2013), Gase was able to get career-best numbers out of future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. While Cutler is no Manning, we feel Gase can get the best out of him....if Cutler responds to the coaching.

Bears | Kevin White agrees to terms    Wed May 6, 01:22 PM

Chicago Bears first-round draft choice WR Kevin White has agreed to terms with the team on a four-year contract that includes a fifth-year option. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: We love the addition of White. He's got the speed to stretch the field, and he takes the top off the defense in the blink of an eye. White can also run short routes and turn them into long gains because of his agility and quickness in the open field. He gives the Bears another weapon to start opposite Alshon Jeffery. If Jay Cutler can be a decent starter, White could be a WR3 with upside each week for fantasy owners. Relying on Cutler is a gamble, so fantasy owners should consider White more of a WR4 to add in the 10th round of PPR re-draft leagues.
