Bears | Cody Whitehair leaves practice    Thu Aug 15, 09:06 PM

Chicago Bears OG Cody Whitehair (finger) suffered a minor injury to a finger on his left hand during practice Wednesday, Aug. 14, according to head coach Matt Nagy.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky progressing on reads    Wed Aug 14, 09:36 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is 'way past' where he was last season in reading defenses, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Trubisky was not always in tune with reading blitzes and coverages because he was so worried about getting the play called. Now, he's playing off of instincts.

Footballguys view: Trubisky needs to take a step forward in 2019. Fantasy GMs may have something nice on their hands if Trubisky continues to develop as a pro passer. Trubisky has a current ADP of QB21 (14.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. He could easily outperform that draft position this season.

Bears | Anthony Miller should be ready for Week 1    Sun Aug 11, 05:28 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (ankle) did not practice Sunday, Aug. 11, because of his sprained ankle, but head coach Matt Nagy said Miller should be ready for Week 1.

Footballguys view: We won't trust Miller Week 1 because of the possibility for aggravation in his likely first game action in a month, but this means that his status as an upside bench receiver is still intact. Miller played last year with a bum shoulder that was surgically repaired in the offseason and should be more effective this year once he's healthy.

Bears | Anthony Miller injured Saturday    Sat Aug 10, 01:44 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (foot) suffered a foot injury during practice Saturday, Aug. 10, but head coach Matt Nagy said he does not believe the injury is serious.

Footballguys view: Javon Wims has had a good camp and could get more opportunity while Miller is mending. Miller was a good second half of draft sleeper, but if this is going to threaten his early season availability, it will relegate him to waiver watch list status.

Bears | Solid debut for David Montgomery     Fri Aug 9, 01:33 AM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery rushed three times for 16 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 30 yards in a 23-13 preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Montgomery showed great balance and ability to break tackles, which was his calling card at Iowa State. He still appears to be in a three-man committee, but performances like this one help his cause.

Bears | Anthony Miller listed as starter    Tue Aug 6, 11:04 AM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller was listed as a starting receiver, alongside WRs Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel, on the first unofficial depth chart.

Footballguys view: Miller is healthier this year, and the game is slowing down for him in his second year. Consider him a priority bench wide receiver pick in the late rounds.

Bears | Trey Burton could sit out preseason    Mon Aug 5, 02:38 PM

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) has no timeline for a return to practice as of Monday, Aug. 5, and it wouldn't be a 'great surprise' if the Bears held him out for the entire preseason in order to have him ready for Week 1 versus the Green Bay Packers, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.

Footballguys view: Bears coach Matt Nagy insists that Burton has not had any setbacks in his recovery from hernia surgery. Nagy says 'We need him for Week 1.' That's why the Bears are going to keep him out of the preseason. Until we hear something different, it looks like Fantasy GMs can target Burton for a return in the season opener. Burton has low-end TE1 upside with a current ADP of TE16 (13.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Riley Ridley returns    Mon Aug 5, 11:41 AM

Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 5, after missing more than a week with a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Ridley needs to have a strong rest of camp and preseason to be anything but a healthy scratch during the season. If he aggravates the hamstring, he's likely to end up on injured reserve because of the quality of wide receiver group in Chicago.

Bears | Trey Burton still out    Mon Aug 5, 11:38 AM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (undisclosed) remains out of practice Monday, Aug. 5. He was out Friday, Aug. 2, due to a planned day off and didn't practice the following day either.

Footballguys view: The team said he didn't have a setback, but we can't rule that out until he returns to the field. Until then, more chances for Adam Shaheen to impress, assuming he can stay healthy, which hasn't been his forte.

Bears | Trey Burton held out of practice    Sun Aug 4, 11:25 AM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) was held out of practice by head coach Matt Nagy Friday, Aug. 2, and Saturday, Aug. 3. He had participated in the first five practices of training camp but was kept out of the two most recent sessions after appearing to struggle near the end of that stretch.

Footballguys view: Adam Shaheen is healthy-ish again after suffering some back problems early in camp and this could be an opening for him if Burton is suffering a setback. Burton's upside is limited this year with two new backs on the roster who can catch the ball and healthier wide receivers.

Bears | Chicago signs Joe Walker    Sat Aug 3, 05:01 PM

Bears | Riley Ridley out again    Thu Aug 1, 09:44 AM

Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley (hamstring) missed his fifth straight practice Thursday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys view: Hamstring injuries are known to linger, so the Bears are being careful with their rookie here. Ridley is not the type of receiver to take the top off a defense, but he plays with savvy and great concentration. We'll monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

Bears | Adam Shaheen misses practice    Mon Jul 29, 08:55 PM

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen (back) did not practice for the second straight day Monday, July 29. Head coach Matt Nagy said the team is being cautious with Shaheen.

Footballguys view: Shaheen was having a good camp last year before a leg injury derailed his season. Hopefully this will be a minor blip that doesn't sideline him for much longer, but any back issue deserves more attention as we monitor injuries.

Bears | Riley Ridley to miss some time    Sat Jul 27, 10:21 PM

Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley could miss a week or more while recovering from a right hamstring injury, according to head coach Matt Nagy, but Nagy said he isn't 'overly concerned' about the injury.

Footballguys view: The Bears have a strong wide receiver group and could afford to give Ridley a redshirt year on injured reserve if he doesn't rally quickly from this injury.

Bears | Two players dealing with injuries    Sat Jul 27, 06:33 PM

Bears | Trey Burton ready for camp    Fri Jul 26, 10:18 PM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) participated in the first day of training camp Friday, July 26.

Footballguys view: Burton had sports hernia surgery this offseason and has been on the road to recovery ever since. He's the main target at the tight end position for the Bears last year but things are different this season. Mainly, the weapons in the passing game are healthier...including tight end Adam Shaheen. Keep this in mind when considering Burton for your fantasy team.

Bears | Anthony Miller practicing Friday    Fri Jul 26, 10:15 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (shoulder) was on the field for the start of training camp Friday, July 26.

Footballguys view: That was the plan for Miller all along as he recovered from this shoulder problem over the offseason. Miller played with a bum shoulder almost all of his rookie season. We like him as a boom/bust WR5 with a nose for the end zone.

Bears | Riley Ridley leaves practice early    Fri Jul 26, 06:26 PM

Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley (hamstring) left practice early Friday, July 26, because of a right hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Rookies should be watched the closest, as conditioning is huge in camp if they want to contribute in their rookie year. Ridley was probably going to be the fifth wide receiver at best, so if this is a problem that costs him all of camp, he could go on injured reserve.

Bears | CHI kicker up in the air    Mon Jul 22, 09:10 AM

Chicago Bears PKs Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry will battle for the kicker spot, but neither is in the lead. The team plans to monitor other teams' kicking competitions for a potential option.

Footballguys view: Ryan Pace said "We're watching all the teams, all the competitive situations around the league. One of them will be kicker. We're just watching that progress as we go forward. We know right now where we stand, where some of those battles are occurring. We're watching those. And I'm sure there will be ones that will pop up that might surprise us", so expect that the Week 1 Bears kicker is someone not currently on the roster.

Bears | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix a PUP candidate    Sun Jul 21, 08:28 PM

Chicago Bears S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (knee) is 'likely' to be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, general manager Ryan Pace said Sunday, July 21.

Footballguys view: Clinton-Dix should be back soon. His presence is important because he's replacing Adrian Amos in the defense and will need practice time to integrate into Chuck Pagano's scheme.

Bears | David Montgomery drawing praise    Sun Jul 21, 05:37 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery is drawing praise from his head coach and general manager heading into his first NFL training camp. 'He's just so well-rounded. He can do everything,' said general manager Ryan Pace on Sunday, July 21. 'I think he should get a fair amount of carries in the preseason,' head coach Matt Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Montgomery will share with Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis, but he has a chance to lead the backfield in targets and get the majority of goal line and game finishing carries. He'll need to do that to justify an already optimistic ADP.

Bears | Anthony Miller expected to be ready    Sun Jul 21, 05:27 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the beginning of training camp. 'We expect him to be ready to go but again we're going to be smart about how we build him in,' said general manager Ryan Pace on Sunday, July 21.

Footballguys view: Miller played most of last year with a bum shoulder and could be even better with the issue surgically repaired. The Bears pass offense still has a lot of mouths to feed, so Miller could be very efficient but inconsistent if everyone stays healthy. Mitchell Trubisky should be the main beneficiary of an improved set of targets, assuming he improves in his second year under Matt Nagy.

Bears | Trey Burton expected for start of camp    Sun Jul 21, 05:22 PM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Ryan Pace on Sunday, July 21.

Footballguys view: The team will ease him back in, but it should be an uneventful return to action after a routine surgery. Adam Shaheen is the more healthy tight end and could make a bid for more targets if Burton is slow to return, but Burton will remain in the more fantasy friendly role.

Bears | Javon Wims could surprise in 2019    Tue Jul 16, 10:14 PM

Chicago Bears WR Javon Wims is a player who 'probably deserves more attention' after performing well during offseason workouts and appears primed to compete for a role on offense in training camp, according to Larry Mayer of the team's website.

Footballguys view: Wims, a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft out of Georgia, has speed to burn. He has good size and is a player we've been monitoring in deep dynasty formats. We'll see if Wims can impress in training camp this year and earn a larger role on the Bears offense. He's competing for the No. 5 spot on the depth chart at the wide receiver position.

Bears | Aaron Lynch on the mend    Fri Jul 12, 10:08 PM

Chicago Bears LB Aaron Lynch (elbow) was able to participate in minicamp.

Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran here. Lynch signed a one-year deal with the Bears earlier this offseason. In 2018, his first season in Chicago, Lynch ended up starting three games and finished with 16 tackles, 3.0 sacks and one interception. He's a run-stuffing presence up front so long as he can stay healthy.

Bears | Mike Davis did work on zone read runs in 2018    Tue Jul 9, 03:49 PM

Chicago Bears RB Mike Davis - as a member of the Seattle Seahawks last season - averaged 4.9 yards per carry on 53 zone-read runs, topping Chris Carson's 4.07 mark on 88 attempts and Rashaad Penny's 4.71 average on 34 carries, per Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Davis has always been a talented runner but his production in the NFL has been inconsistent (just like it was for him in college at South Carolina). He'll work in a RBBC with Tarik Cohen and rookie David Montgomery. Davis is not getting drafted right now, while Montgomery has a current ADP of RB21 (4.03) and Cohen at RB28 (5.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky comfortable, confident    Sun Jun 30, 08:20 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said he feels more comfortable running head coach Matt Nagy's offense this season.

Footballguys view: Trubisky should be better in year two under Nagy and Nagy has said that his quarterback has gone from 101 to 202 and is doing things he couldn't do last year earlier in the offseason. The Bears offense had a good first year under Nagy until Trubisky got hurt and the whole unit could take a step forward.

Bears | Chase Daniel eyeing backup gig    Sat Jun 29, 10:32 PM

Chicago Bears QB Chase Daniel is the favorite to win the backup quarterback job, according to Adam L. Jahns of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Daniel was serviceable as the starter last year when Mitchell Trubisky went down, going 1-1 and throwing for at least 230 yards and a score in each game. The biggest winner if he ends up having to start this year will be Tarik Cohen, based on who Daniel favored last year. Cohen had 19 catches for 201 yards and a score in those games.

Bears | Adam Shaheen sheds weight in offseason    Tue Jun 25, 02:53 AM

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen lost seven pounds during the offseason, did jiu-jitsu and focused on his core strength and flexibility in an effort to try and stay healthy in 2019.

Footballguys view: Shaheen is cast as the blocking tight end in Matt Nagy's offense, but he has soft hands and he's difficult to defend in the red zone. He won't have fantasy relevance this year without an injury to Trey Burton, but could improve Mitchell Trubisky's red zone efficiency and upgrade the offense when he's on the field.

Bears | Allen Robinson led offense in 2018    Fri Jun 21, 12:45 PM

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson was the team's highest-graded offensive player in 2018 at 77.7, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Robinson should be even better this year, and Mitchell Trubisky and the offense should improve too. Robinson was once an elite fantasy receiver with Blake Bortles and he is still in his prime. He seems undervalued at a mid-round ADP.

Bears | Tarik Cohen expecting same role    Thu Jun 20, 01:49 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is expecting to maintain his role as the team's change-of-pace back this season despite an overhaul with the rest of the Bears' backfield. 'I feel like I'm going to be doing the same things I was doing last year,' Cohen told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday, June 20. 'My role is not going to change. I still have to be the receiving back, come in be the change of pace back, running the ball, be that speedy guy. I'm just prepared for anything however I get the ball.'

Footballguys view: We anticipate that Cohen will be the 'Lightning' to the 'Thunder' of Davis or Montgomery in 2019. Cohen should get less than 100 carries, but his role is as a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. Projecting him for 70-plus catches again sounds about right. He's got flex appeal, especially in PPR format. Cohen has a current ADP of RB28 (5.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Duke Shelley signs rookie deal    Thu Jun 20, 11:22 AM

Chicago Bears sixth-round pick CB Duke Shelley signed an undisclosed four-year deal Thursday, June 20.

Footballguys view: Shelley is a slot corner who can find the football. He had 39 passes defensed in 38 games during his college career at Kansas State. Shelley is known as a smart and coachable prospect who could eventually start as a slot corner for the Bears. They are looking for help at the position since losing CB Bryce Callahan (Broncos) in free agency.

Bears | David Montgomery inks rookie deal    Thu Jun 13, 08:02 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery signed his rookie contract Thursday, June 13, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bears | Anthony Miller likely on track for camp    Thu Jun 13, 03:19 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (shoulder) has made enough progress from offseason shoulder surgery to make head coach Matt Nagy optimistic about his chances of being ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Miller had shoulder surgery back in January, and he's always been on track for training camp. With no known setbacks, that seems to still be the case. Miller's seven touchdowns last year inflated his fantasy value. This season, several factors (and other players) stand in Miller's way of doing more. We like him as more of a WR5 with upside in a high-powered passing attack.

Bears | Chicago optimistic Trey Burton will be ready    Thu Jun 13, 02:44 PM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) underwent surgery for a sports hernia during the offseason, but head coach Matt Nagy still 'feels good' about Burton's chances of being ready for the start of training camp, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: In his first season with the Bears in 2018, Burton finished as the No. 6 fantasy tight end in standard-scoring formats. He might be hard pressed to duplicate that production this year, especially with fellow TE Adam Shaheen healthy. Burton's timeline in recovery always had him back for training camp, so he seems to be on track.

Bears | David Montgomery's receiving skills impressing    Thu Jun 13, 12:52 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery has impressed in minicamp with his pass-catching skills, 'He's making plays,' Bears head coach Matt Nagy said. 'We always knew he had great hands. You don't know how great of a route runner a college back is, but he's a really good route runner.'

Footballguys view: We love Montgomery's no-nonsense approach as a runner. He's intent, determined and tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. So far this offseason, we've heard plenty of good things about the rookie's ability as a receiver out of the backfield. He's got to contend with veteran Mike Davis in training camp, and Tarik Cohen will get plenty of work in that backfield. Right now, Montgomery is going off the board at RB21 (4.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Chicago unlikely to pursue Matt Bryant    Fri Jun 7, 06:39 PM

Free-agent PK Matt Bryant (Falcons) likely will not be an option for the Chicago Bears since he has not handled kickoff duties since 2008 and has not kicked for a cold-weather outdoor team since 2003, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Footballguys view: The Bears should wait until final cuts and add one of the kickers that loses a kicker battle, but performs well this summer. Bryant is proven, but it sounds like he would be a bad fit on the Bears.

Bears | David Montgomery may have decent role    Fri Jun 7, 06:24 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery should have the chance to earn a solid role in the offense during his rookie season, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Footballguys view: Montgomery will be part of a three-man committee at running back. If he can decisively outplay Tarik Cohen or Mike Davis, he might earn a larger role, but for now his ADP might be a little aggressive, assuming the Bears stick with this plan all year.
