Bears | Jordan Howard to be factor in passing game?    Fri May 25, 01:21 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard is working on some issues to help him become a better receiver out of the backfield, according to new running backs coach Charles London, who mentioned hand placement, focus and concentration and hand-eye coordination as some of the areas he is hoping to see improvement.

Footballguys view: This is something that has been reported more than once this offseason. Howard is putting in the work, and he's doing that to be more involved in Matt Nagy's offense. He's good for around 25 catches per year, and even with his extra work to be a better receiver those numbers might not move that much for Howard in 2018. The Bears can always use Tarik Cohen as a dynamic receiver out of the backfield.

Bears | Kevin White not setting goals    Thu May 24, 10:47 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White said he isn't worried about his fifth-year option being declined and believes 'anything' is possible for him this season.

Footballguys view: White's pro career has been marred by injury in a big way. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, White has only appeared in five games as a pro. His trademark speed from college may be a thing of the past after multiple injuries. White is going to face more and better competition this year after the Bears made moves in the draft and free agency to upgrade the position.

Bears | Anthony Miller penciled in at the slot    Wed May 23, 11:18 AM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller is earmarked to be the slot receiver in the offense.

Footballguys view: Miller was a featured player in the Memphis offense over the last two years, and he's got plenty of experience working outside or in the slot. The rookie is a crafty route runner with the body control to adjust to poorly thrown passes. He's not the biggest, fastest or strongest receiver but Miller is savvy and could become a favorite target for QB Mitchell Trubisky.

Bears | Three Bears may be camp PUP candidates    Sat May 19, 03:14 PM

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee), LB Leonard Floyd (knee) and OG Kyle Long (elbow, neck, shoulder) could all start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Footballguys view: Robinson is the player fantasy owners are monitoring closely here. All reports about Robinson's recovery have been positive and Bears coach Matt Nagy said Robinson is "ahead of the game" in his rehab.

Bears | Coach excited about Tarik Cohen    Wed May 16, 11:33 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is a player that head coach Matt Nagy is excited to work with this upcoming season. 'You see how he is in the meeting rooms -- he listens to the play and when he comes out here how serious he is and he knows how to have fun. He's a player that for me, you get giddy about,' Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Nagy is one of the most creative offensive minds in football. He'll find a way to use Cohen, perhaps with some plays/formations that he used Tyreek Hill in during his time running Kansas City's offense.

Bears | Kyle Long making good progress    Wed May 16, 11:24 PM

Bears | Allen Robinson where he needs to be    Wed May 16, 03:26 PM

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee) is ahead of the game and looking good as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in Week 1 last year.

Footballguys view: Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Bears this offseason to be the lead receiver. The Bears are hoping he can regain his form from 2015 when he had 1,400 yards receiving with the Jaguars. Head coach Matt Nagy said the Bears feel good about Robinson's prognosis and that he won't need to be rushed back.

Bears | Anthony Miller a complete receiver?    Sun May 13, 11:21 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller said he isn't afraid of the 'physical element' of the game and is a willing blocker in the running game.

Footballguys view: Miller had 238 career catches at Memphis and scored 37 touchdowns (32 over the last two years). He's got tremendous work ethic and will be a team-first guy who does whatever it takes to contribute. We'll see if he can make progress as a blocker, but there's no doubt he won't shy away from the work he needs to do in that area.

Free-agent QB Aaron Murray (Rams) is participating in the Chicago Bears' rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.

Bears | Anthony Miller to be limited    Fri May 11, 05:45 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (foot) will not participate in team drills during the rookie minicamp this week because he is coming off a foot injury.

Footballguys view: Miller was a playmaker in college for Memphis, and he can bring that ability to the field for the Bears in the pros. He has recovered from the injury, but the team wants to be cautious.

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller, C James Daniels, LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe, DE Bilal Nichols, LB Kylie Fitts and WR Javon Wims signed their four-year rookie contracts Thursday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Regardless of where he was drafted, Miller could have a shot to contribute because the Bears don't have an overabundance of talent at the position.

Bears | Kevin White's option not exercised     Wed May 2, 02:24 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White's fifth-year option will not be picked up, according to a source. White is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Footballguys view: White's pro career has been set back in a major way by injury. A first-round pick in 2015, White has only played in five games as a pro. These injuries may have robbed him of the trademark speed he had in college at West Virginia years ago. White is healthy now and enters the Bears camp as the No.4 wideout.

Bears | Chicago inks Ryan Nall    Sun Apr 29, 03:42 PM

Undrafted free-agent RB Ryan Nall (Oregon State) signed an undisclosed contract with the Chicago Bears on Sunday, April 29.

Footballguys view: Nall is a versatile fullback/runningback/H-back type who can catch the ball and provide high-end athleticism for a player with his bulk. He could stick in this new look Bears offense.

Bears | Chicago was interested in Calvin Ridley    Sat Apr 28, 10:49 AM

The Chicago Bears attempted to trade up in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the intention of selecting Alabama WR Calvin Ridley Thursday, April 26, but he was taken with the 26th overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: The Bears should have shoved all their chips onto the table for that because aside from Allen Robinson, there's no reliable big time receiver in the group, and Robinson is coming off an injury. They'll add more bodies, but they needed a home run.

Bears | Chicago selects Anthony Miller    Fri Apr 27, 08:32 PM

The Chicago Bears selected Memphis WR Anthony Miller with the 51st overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday, April 27.

Footballguys view: A very productive, very competitive receiver who plays with a real chip on his shoulder. Played both outside and inside for Memphis, and can do both well, but had issues holding on to the ball at times.

Bears | James Daniels drafted by Bears    Fri Apr 27, 07:35 PM

The Chicago Bears selected Iowa C James Daniels with the 39th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday, April 27.

Bears | Chicago selects Roquan Smith    Thu Apr 26, 09:01 PM

The Chicago Bears selected Georgia LB Roquan Smith with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Thursday, April 26.

Bears | Kevin White at minicamp    Wed Apr 18, 04:31 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shoulder) is participating in minicamp this week as he continues in his recovery from a broken shoulder blade last year.

Footballguys view: White was the team's first-round pick in 2015 but he has struggled with injuries and inconsistencies as a pro. He's appeared in five games over three seasons in the NFL and has only 21 catches during that time. Head coach Matt Nagy said White has looked sharp and healthy so far. It's clearly a make-or-break year for White in 2018.

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is up to 190 pounds after bulking up this offseason.

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard's agent said the Bears will not be trading their star running back.

Bears | Chicago met with Quenton Nelson    Fri Apr 13, 11:10 PM

Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson met with the Chicago Bears Thursday, April 12.

Footballguys view: The Bears may be targeting Nelson at no.8 overall. That's great but he may not be on the board at that time as the Broncos (no.5) and Colts (no.6) have all been linked to Nelson in the pre-draft process.

Bears | Chicago eyeing two players in draft    Fri Apr 13, 10:38 PM

The Chicago Bears are targeting Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson and Ohio State CB Denzel Ward with the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, according to Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com.

Footballguys view: Nelson is seen as a generational talent because of his, strength, technique and tenacity. The Broncos (no.5) and Colts (no.6) have all been linked to Nelson. Ward is arguably the best corner in this draft, depending on where you think Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama) will play. He's a smaller corner who should work great in the slot.

Bears | Chicago signing Bennie Fowler    Fri Apr 13, 05:49 PM

Free-agent WR Bennie Fowler (Broncos) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears Friday, April 13, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Fowler had an opportunity to be the Broncos no.3 WR last year but he didn't do much. In 2017, he did set a career high with 29 receptions for 350 yards and three touchdowns. With the Bears, Fowler should compete for the 4th spot on the depth chart behind guys like Allen Robinson, Kevin White and Taylor Gabriel.

Bears | Chicago not matching Cameron Meredith    Wed Apr 11, 03:17 PM

Chicago Bears restricted free-agent WR Cameron Meredith's two-year, $10 million offer sheet from the New Orleans Saints will not be matched by the Bears, according to a source. Meredith is officially a Saint.

Footballguys view: The Bears chose not to match the offer the Saints had for Meredith. 'Medical reasons' may have been the deciding factor for the Bears as Meredith is coming off 2017 ACL and PCL injuries that cost him the entire season. As an original round tender as an undrafted free agent, the Bears receive no compensation for declining to match Meredith's offer.

Bears | Courtland Sutton to visit Bears    Tue Apr 10, 08:54 AM

Southern Methodist WR Courtland Sutton will visit the Chicago Bears this weekend.

Footballguys view: At 6'3" 218 pounds, Sutton is a big-bodied possession receiver. He is not fine tuned as a route runner and he lacks explosiveness after the catch. What he lacks there, Sutton makes up for with a large wingspan coupled with great 'my ball' mentality. Sutton's size also makes him a great target in the red zone. The Bears added Allen Robinson this offseason in free agency but should still have interest in adding a rookie receiver at some point during the draft. Sutton could be a late first- or early second-round pick.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky comfortable with offense    Sat Apr 7, 09:29 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said he feels like he is built for the new offense being installed for 2018. 'I just feel like this offense is going to utilize my talents more and the players I have around me,' Trubisky said. 'And hopefully we'll get rolling from there.'

Footballguys view: The kid is probably right. New head coach Matt Nagy is one of the most creative minds in football, and he'll do his best to craft a high-powered offense for Trubisky to run.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky picking up offense    Sat Apr 7, 03:16 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said he has been impressed with how QB Mitchell Trubisky has picked up the new offensive scheme.

Footballguys view: Nagy has a creative mind for offensive football, and we should see him get the best out of Trubisky eventually. The second-year quarterback got plenty of experience as a rookie, and the Bears are looking to continue upgrading the talent around him on offense in the 2018 NFL draft.

Bears | Kyle Long had three surgeries    Tue Apr 3, 02:27 PM

Chicago Bears OG Kyle Long (neck, shoulder, elbow) has had separate surgeries on his neck, shoulder and elbow since being placed on the Reserve/Injured list late last year.

Footballguys view: Long is the cornerstone of the Bears offensive line, but it's fair to wonder if he'll be at full strength this season. The interior line has been rebuilt, but they will still have to replace Josh Sitton at guard, so the team needs Long to be ready and his old self to begin the season.
