Bears | Probably will take RB in draft    Sat Apr 19, 11:18 AM

The Chicago Bears probably will select a running back in the later rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft to compete with RB Michael Ford for the No. 2 running back job. The team could also add a running back or two after the draft.

Footballguys view: We were expecting this ever since Michael Bush was released. The Bears have a sleeper in Michael Ford. Fantasy owners of Forte--and even those who don't have Forte--should be interested in the second-year back. Ford has good strength between the tackles, and he can get to the edge at the second level of the defense.

Bears | Could target a quarterback    Sat Apr 19, 09:47 AM

The Chicago Bears could target a quarterback in the late rounds of the NFL Draft or in free agency to provide competition for backup QB Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: The Bears need a young quarterback to groom behind Jay Cutler. This draft is top heavy at quarterback, but there are a few mid- to late-round options that would work. We think Brett Smith (Wyoming) would be a great fit with Bears head coach (and noted quarterback guru) Marc Trestman.

The Chicago Bears will visit with Alabama S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix this week, according to a source. Clinton-Dix has already met with the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: Clinton-Dix is a quality centerfielder who can make plays be reading a quarterback's eyes. He's not a thumper as a tackler, but he does bring down his man in the open field.

Bears | Worked out James White    Mon Apr 14, 02:02 PM

The Chicago Bears recently conducted an private workout with Wisconsin RB James White.

Footballguys view: White is a late-round specialist at the running back position. He's an efficient runner who wastes little motion with the ball in his hands. White is not the biggest guy, so he should be used mostly as a complementary back. The Bears are looking for RB help behind Matt Forte after Michael Bush was let go.

Bears | DeSean Jackson not an option    Fri Mar 28, 07:28 PM

The Chicago Bears will not pursue free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles) this offseason, because the team likely would not be able to offer the type of money he will want.

Footballguys view: The Bears are set at the wide receiver position with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery as their starters. We like second-year pro Marquess Wilson as a speed slot receiver behind those two.

Bears | Jay Cutler restructures    Thu Mar 27, 04:02 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler restructured his deal Thursday, March 27, to free up $4 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: Allen got 15.5 milion guaranteed over the first two years of the deal, showing along with Demarcus Ware and Julius Peppers that once-great pass rushers can still get paid when they are past their prime. Allen, like Peppers, stays in the NFC North. The Bears have added Lamarr Houston and Willie Young in addition to Allen to revamp a decimated DL.

Bears | Expected to release Earl Bennett    Tue Mar 18, 01:48 PM

Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett declined a pay cut and is expected to be released by the team.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Bennett has never really "wowed" as a pro, and the team could save over $2 million with his release. A player with plenty of "wow" factor is second-year pro Marquess Wilson. His speed and ball-tracking ability could be dangerous behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with DE Israel Idonije (Lions) on a contract Tuesday, March 18. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
