Bears | Kevin White talking to Larry Fitzgerald    Wed Jul 1, 09:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White sought advice from Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald at the NFL Rookie Symposium.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald's advice has helped boost more than one career via his offseason camp. That White is seeking veteran mentorship is a good sign, but expect him to come along slower than the other first round WRs in fantasy leagues because of head coach John Fox's notorious disinclination to give rookies big roles.

Bears | Eddie Royal working with QB    Mon Jun 22, 02:27 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal said he has been working with QB Jay Cutler this offseason in order to build chemistry. Royal said they have been watching extra film and doing extra work on the field.

Footballguys view: We've seen this duo before in the NFL, and they were pretty damn productive together. Royal had the best season of his career with 91 catches, 980 yards and five touchdowns when they both played for the Denver Broncos in 2008.

Bears | CHI needs group effort at WR    Sat Jun 20, 07:21 PM

The Chicago Bears will be counting on a group effort from WRs Kevin White, Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson to make up for Brandon Marshall's lost production. WR Alshon Jeffery is expected to fully takeover as the No. 1 receiver in Chicago.

Footballguys view: We'd love Kevin White more in this situation if John Fox wasn't the head coach in Chicago. Fox is a fine head coach, but he isn't known for overusing his rookies. White might have to work his way up the depth chart, and he's currently competing to be the third WR in Chicago behind Jeffery and Royal.

Bears | Kevin White should return for TC    Fri Jun 19, 05:39 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (undisclosed) should be available for training camp July 30, according to head coach John Fox. White missed all of minicamp with an undisclosed medical issue.

Footballguys view: White has incredible talent, but Bears head coach John Fox doesn't use rookies as much as he should (see Cody Latimer last year). We'll see if White can stay healthy and push Eddie Royal for the WR2 spot opposite Alshon Jefferey.

Bears | Three players waived    Thu Jun 18, 04:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Pat Devlin, TE Jacob Maxwell and PK Jeremiah Detmer were waived Thursday, June 18.

Footballguys view: Devlin followed Joe Flacco in college at Delaware, but he's struggled to find a home as a pro since he came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011. His career is likely done after barely lasting a month in Chicago.

Bears | Daniel Thomas signed    Thu Jun 18, 04:03 PM

Free-agent RB Daniel Thomas (Dolphins) signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears Thursday, June 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Bears did more than just update their emergency list by working out Thomas. He comes into a situation where he could win a roster spot behind Matt Forte. There's a lot of unproven talent behind Forte, and he has more experience than guys like Kadeem Carey and rookie Jeremy Langford. He wouldn't have any fantasy value unless he wins the primary backup job and Forte goes down with an injury.

Bears | Daniel Thomas working out in Chicago    Wed Jun 17, 11:50 AM

Free-agent RB Daniel Thomas (Dolphins) is working out with the Chicago Bears Wednesday, June 17.

Footballguys view: The Bears have given Thomas an opportunity on a tryout basis. It's a good landing spot for the veteran back who has gotten little interest on the open market. The Bears have mostly unproven players behind starter Matt Forte. John Fox knows running back talent, so we'll have to see if Thomas can do enough to impress him and the new Bears coaching staff.

Bears | Martellus Bennett at minicamp    Tue Jun 16, 08:41 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett participated in minicamp practice Tuesday, June 16, after skipping the first three weeks of organized team activities. Bennett told reporters he expects to be at training camp on reporting day in late July.

Footballguys view: Bennett didn't want to get fined, and that's why he showed up. He can now start learning the offense under new OC Adam Gase. Bennett led all tight ends last year with 90 receptions, but his numbers should dip this season with the arrival of first-round WR Kevin White and free agent WR Eddie Royal.

Bears | Jay Cutler confident in new offense    Tue Jun 16, 05:37 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he's feeling great about the offense under new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. 'I know the guys like it. I know the receivers like it,' Cutler said. 'TE Martellus Bennett is going to love it when he gets involved. We just have to keep heading in the direction we are going and keep studying. We are not where we want to be yet.'

Footballguys view: Cutler should be confident in what Gase brings to the table. This is going to be a pass-happy offense that stays aggressive no matter how the game is unfolding. It's a make-or-break season for Cutler this year. If he can quickly learn this offense and finally play up to his potential then he should stick with the Bears. If things fall apart for Cutler, the Bears might move on from the veteran quarterback in 2016.

Bears | Kevin White not at minicamp    Tue Jun 16, 02:17 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (undisclosed) did not practice at minicamp Tuesday, June 16. Head coach John Fox said White is day-to-day, but he did not disclose White's injury.

Footballguys view: White has been running with the second team up until now. We'll be able to have a better idea about his situation if/when this injury is revealed.

Bears | Martellus Bennett expected at minicamp    Mon Jun 15, 03:34 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is expected to participate in minicamp this week after skipping organized team activities in previous weeks. Bennett has wanted a new contract.

Footballguys view: Bennett skipped all the voluntary work this offseason in protest of his contract situation, but he's not going to miss the mandatory workouts (and get fined). Last year, Bennett finished the season as the 5th-best fantasy tight end. This year, his numbers will drop with the additions of free agent WR Eddie Royal and first-round WR Kevin White. Bennett has a cap number over $6.1 million this year, and getting a new deal seems like a pipe dream.

Bears | Kevin White working with second-team    Fri Jun 12, 10:36 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White spent most of his time with the second-team offense during OTAs.

Footballguys view: Good ole John Fox and his mistrust of rookies! Many a fantasy owner has been frustrated by Fox and the way he deals with first-year players. We think White forces his hand this year and carves out a sizable role for the Bears. White is the best option they have opposite Alshon Jeffery. He'll have to "earn" his job and work up to the first team in training camp. White could catch 50-60 passes this year in the Adam Gase offense.

Bears | Coach unsure of Martellus Bennett's attendance    Thu Jun 11, 02:46 AM

Chicago Bears coach John Fox is not sure whether TE Martellus Bennett will be at mandatory minicamp when it opens shortly. Bennett is pushing for a raise from the $4.9 million base he's scheduled to earn in 2015.

Footballguys view: This is a situation that bears watching as training camp approaches. Bennett wants a raise, but the Bears don't seem likely to oblige him. This may turn into a holdout situation in August. Stay tuned.

Bears | Ify Umodu signs    Mon Jun 8, 05:03 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Ify Umodu (Northern Arizona) signed an undisclosed contract with the Chicago Bears Monday, June 8.

Footballguys view: With a name like Ify Umodu we automatically put him in the starting lineup for the Black Eyed Joe All-Name Team. On a serious note, Umodu caught 136 passes for 1,883 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns during his college career at Northern Arizona. He attended the Bears rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and the team must have liked what they saw. Umodu was a star for the Lumberjacks, and he could regularly take the top off the defense. He also can make difficult catches to move the chains or in the end zone. Umodu is worth monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues.

Bears | Martellus Bennett still not at OTAs    Wed Jun 3, 04:07 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is still absent from organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation. The Bears will be able to fine Bennett if he misses mandatory minicamp, which starts later this month. Bennett has made it clear that he wants a new contract.

Bears | Matt Forte will attend training camp    Thu May 28, 09:05 AM

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte will attend training camp despite his desire for a contract extension that Chicago has declined to offer. Forte is attending organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Forte said he wasn't going to hold out, and it seems he is a man of his word. While John Fox has used a running back committee before, Forte is by far the best back on the team and should still see a ton of work. He may not get as many catches as he has the last few years now that Adam Gase is the offensive coordinator. Currently hovering at an ADP of about 1.07, Forte represents some great fantasy potential, despite the changes on the coaching staff.

Bears | Matt Forte reports for workouts    Wed May 27, 09:35 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte was present for the start of organized team activities Wednesday, May 27.

Footballguys view: John Fox is going to use Forte early and often this year. Fantasy owners will be happy to add him in the first round of every fantasy draft.

Bears | Martellus Bennett skipping OTAs    Wed May 27, 09:34 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not participating in organized team activities since he is looking for a new contract.

Footballguys view: Bennett is looking for a new contract, and there's a chance he may want to be traded. This won't get serious until Bennett starts to miss practices in training camp.

Bears | Ray McDonald released    Mon May 25, 04:34 PM

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears DE Ray McDonald has been released Monday, May 25, just hours after being arrested for alleged domestic violence and child endangerment.

Footballguys view: The Bears weren't going to waste any time in this situation. McDonald had been arrested three times in the last nine months. This time, he allegedly assaulted a woman while she was holding a baby. We think the NFL drops the hammer on McDonald with a penalty that could end his NFL career.

Bears | Matt Forte in last year of contract    Wed May 20, 12:15 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte is entering the final year of his current contract, according to Spotrac.com. Forte turns 30 years old Dec. 10 and could struggle to find a full-time role in 2016 if he is unwilling to take a drastic pay cut from his current $9.2 million salary. Forte's receiving skills will endear him to a team, but he may be required to share carries.

Footballguys view: Forte is going to once again have a large role for the Bears as their lead back. The Bears have improved their offensive line this offseason, and new head coach John Fox loves to run the ball. Forte is RB5 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues that are drafting now, and his ADP should stay the same as we get closer to the regular season.

Bears | Kevin White showing versatility    Sun May 10, 11:50 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has spent time at all three receiver positions during rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: It's good to see the Bears already moving White around the formation to find the best matchups. He's an incredible talent with the speed to take the top off the defense. White is quick off the line of scrimmage, and he doesn't lose speed out of his breaks. He'll be a great weapon for the Bears opposite Alshon Jeffery.

Bears | Chicago OC comfortable with Jay Cutler    Sat May 9, 01:40 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has some familiarity with offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase and Cutler met when Cutler was still an NFL prospect, and Cutler was still with the Denver Broncos when Gase came to Denver. 'I feel comfortable with him. We have a good relationship so far and we're just going to keep working to get better,' Gase said.

Footballguys view: Gase was with the Broncos as a wide receivers coach at the time, but the two still have a previous working relationship. We like Gase's creativity when crafting an offense. In his first year as an offensive coordinator (2013), Gase was able to get career-best numbers out of future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. While Cutler is no Manning, we feel Gase can get the best out of him....if Cutler responds to the coaching.

Bears | Kevin White agrees to terms    Wed May 6, 01:22 PM

Chicago Bears first-round draft choice WR Kevin White has agreed to terms with the team on a four-year contract that includes a fifth-year option. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: We love the addition of White. He's got the speed to stretch the field, and he takes the top off the defense in the blink of an eye. White can also run short routes and turn them into long gains because of his agility and quickness in the open field. He gives the Bears another weapon to start opposite Alshon Jeffery. If Jay Cutler can be a decent starter, White could be a WR3 with upside each week for fantasy owners. Relying on Cutler is a gamble, so fantasy owners should consider White more of a WR4 to add in the 10th round of PPR re-draft leagues.

Bears | Jeremy Langford signs    Wed May 6, 12:58 AM

The Chicago Bears signed RB Jeremy Langford, the team's fourth-round draft pick, to a four-year contract Tuesday, May 5.

Footballguys view: Langford is a quality reserve running back with the ability to be a spot starter if necessary. While not a power back, Langford is a willing inside runner and he plays bigger than his size. He's got good balance and can serve as a safety-valve receiver out of the backfield. Langford will compete with Kadeem Carey for the backup role behind starter Matt Forte.

Bears | Chicago committed to Jay Cutler    Thu Apr 30, 10:21 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has the support of the organization, general manager Ryan Pace said Thursday, April 30, and the team is excited about adding WR Kevin White as another weapon for Cutler.

Footballguys view: They're committed to him because they have to be. The Bears were reportedly trying to trade Cutler, but no team wanted to bite. Now, they have to use him one more year and see if he takes well to the new coaching staff. At the end of the day, we still think this is Cutler's last year with the Bears.

Bears | Kevin White selected seventh overall    Thu Apr 30, 08:54 PM

West Virginia WR Kevin White was selected seventh overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: The Bears didn't miss with this pick. White is going to have a field day across from Alshon Jeffery and could be in for a huge rookie season. We wouldn't take him as more than a WR3 in redraft, but he's going to be in the top five of dynasty rookie boards.

Bears | Jay Cutler to be traded to Titans?    Thu Apr 30, 07:32 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is reportedly involved in trade talks in which the Bears would acquire the No. 2 overall selection from the Tennessee Titans.

Footballguys view: And the Titans declined. Things will be awkward in Chicago come Monday. The contract that comes with Cutler is probably a big reason why that offer died. Cutler may not react well to this - and that could hurt the value of this offense going forward.

Bears | Malcolm Bronson signs    Thu Apr 30, 06:34 PM

Free-agent FS Malcolm Bronson (Chiefs) signed a two-year deal Thursday, April 30. Financial details were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: The Bears are looking to shore up the safety position, but given Bronson hasn't done much previously you can bet the team is still likely to address it in the draft.

Bears | No extension for Matt Forte now    Thu Apr 30, 03:32 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte said he has talked with general manager Ryan Pace about a contract extension but will not be receiving a new deal at this point. Forte said he will not hold out because of his contract and will play under his current contract but would prefer a new deal.

Footballguys view: The Bears really shouldn't risk losing another piece of the offense, but they're being careful with money which is understandable. The risk is all Forte's unfortunately, as if he gets hurt he'll get a lot less. of course the reward can be greater too if he follows up last year with another big season. We expect good things from him this year, and RB1 is where you want him, especially in PPR leagues.

Bears | Coach expects Martellus Bennett to stay    Thu Apr 30, 02:38 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not expected to be traded during the 2015 NFL Draft, according to head coach John Fox. Fox said he has talked with Bennett and indicated that Bennett is part of the team.

Footballguys view: The Bears might flirt with Bennett getting traded but his contract and the fact that they will be short Brandon Marshall will factor against that. Bennett had flashes of elite tight end ability but hasn't been consistent. we think he'll be a decent spot start in fantasy but unreliable.

Bears | Martellus Bennett on the move?    Wed Apr 29, 02:19 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett could be on the move since the Bears are entertaining trade offers for him, according to sources. Bennett is looking for a new contract from the Bears or from any team that acquires him.

Footballguys view: Bennett is needed as a second target to take the heat off of Alshon Jeffery who lost Brandon Marshall on the other side of the field. Look for Bennett to get paid in one of the first big tests for new GM Ryan Pace.

Bears | Kevin White may be option for CHI    Wed Apr 29, 01:15 PM

West Virginia WR Kevin White said he believes the Chicago Bears will select him if he is available when they pick with the seventh overall choice.

Footballguys view: White could even be in play at #2 if the Titans don't really want Marcus Mariota and don't get a trade up offer that appeals to them. White seems like a sure thing in the top 11 after his excellent combine and #1 WR game.

Bears | Matt Forte still absent    Tue Apr 28, 05:05 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte was not present for the team's commencement of their voluntary minicamp Tuesday, April 28. Forte was also absent for the beginning of the offseason program, and could be hinting at a holdout as he pursues an extension before the final year of his contract.

Footballguys view: Forte has a cap hit of $9.2 million this season, and there is only $1 million remaining in dead money. That cap hit for 2015 is ranked second-highest in the league behind only Adrian Peterson (Vikings) who has a $15.4 million cap hit. Forte may just want long-term security as his price tag is already among the highest in the league.

Bears | Martellus Bennett skipped program     Sat Apr 25, 03:32 PM

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett did not participate in the voluntary offseason program, according to sources.

Footballguys view: There's nothing voluntary about "voluntary" workouts in the NFL. The Bears are installing a new offense under head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Bennett should be there as much as possible. It's a non-issue right now, but keep an eye out to see when Bennett does report.

Bears | Bear Pascoe signed    Thu Apr 23, 12:51 PM

Free-agent TE Bear Pascoe (Falcons) signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears Thursday, April 23. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Pascoe, a former high school rodeo champion, is country strong and a nasty blocker. He's not going to do much as a receiver, but he can help blast open holes for the Bears' rushing attack as a part-time player.

Bears | Kevin White visiting Bears Tuesday    Tue Apr 21, 02:30 PM

Updating a previous report, West Virginia WR Kevin White is visiting the Chicago Bears Tuesday, April 21.

Footballguys view: The Bears are looking for wide receiver help with Brandon Marshall getting bounced to the Jets. White has incredible burst off the line of scrimmage, and he can take the top off the defense. The Bears have the 7th-overall pick, and White could be there if the Raiders don't select him at four.

Bears | Tyler Wilson attending Bears camp    Tue Apr 21, 09:41 AM

Free-agent QB Tyler Wilson (Bengals) will attend the Chicago Bears' minicamp next week on a try-out basis.

Footballguys view: Wilson was reportedly impressive during the veteran combine earlier this year. He was a gunslinger at Arkansas but staying durable and passing accurately were always question marks. We'll see if he can impress the Bears enough to earn a spot as OTAs continue.

Bears | Two prospects visit    Sat Apr 18, 02:14 AM

Portland State OL Cornelius Edison and Colorado State QB Garrett Grayson visited the Chicago Bears this week.

Footballguys view: Grayson is the player to highlight here. He does a good job of manipulating the defense with his eyes, and Grayson is a sound prospect in terms of athleticism and accuracy. He should be a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Bears | Trae Waynes visits    Fri Apr 17, 03:06 AM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes visited the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Waynes is one of the best cornerbacks in this draft class, and he's a lock to be a first-round pick. He's got good length, fluid hips and the speed to stay with any receiver downfield. Waynes also plays with great confidence and has a physical edge to his game.

Bears | Matt Forte downplays vacancy    Tue Apr 14, 05:29 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte didn't make a big deal out of his absence during the team's voluntary offseason program.

Footballguys view: Voluntary doesn't actually mean voluntary in the NFL. Forte stressed the voluntary aspect of the workouts and said he'll be present when it counts. With a new coaching staff in place, Forte should be there to learn from head coach John Fox.

Bears | Chicago will host Jameis Winston    Tue Apr 14, 02:49 PM

Florida State QB Jameis Winston will visit the Chicago Bears Wednesday, April 15, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bears are not sold on Jay Cutler. There's a chance they could move him on draft day, and they'd need to be in a position to add Winston or Marcus Mariota if that happened.

Bears | Mario Edwards visits Chicago    Tue Apr 14, 09:07 AM

Florida State DE Mario Edwards visited with the Chicago Bears last week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Edwards does a good job of using his hands to jar blockers after the snap. He's functionally strong, but he did have a problem with weight fluctuation during his time with the Seminoles. Edwards will need to improve his consistency when getting off the snap if he wants to improve his play in the pros.

Bears | Breshad Perriman visits Chicago    Mon Apr 13, 05:33 PM

Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman visited the Chicago Bears Monday, April 13.

Footballguys view: Perriman is a fast wide receiver who can get on top of the defense in a hurry. He has a large catch radius, and he can make difficult catches seem routine. Drops and inconsistent routes are a concern for some, but his physical attributes are too much to pass up.

Bears | Marcus Mariota visits Bears    Fri Apr 10, 09:43 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota visited the Chicago Bears at the end of March.

Footballguys view: Mariota falling to seven (or beyond) is certainly within the range of outcomes, and the Bears are far from sold on Jay Cutler so this is some important time that these two have spent together. The #7 pick is valuable and would marry John Fox and GM Ryan Pace to Mariota, so it will be a high bar for Mariota to pass to be in consideration even though he is thought by some to surely be long gone by #7.

Bears | CHI will meet with Kevin White    Thu Apr 9, 03:00 PM

West Virginia WR Kevin White said he is scheduled to meet with the Chicago Bears before the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Now that there is a big 'Brandon Marshall' sized hole in the offense, the Bears need a guy who can step in and play across from Alshon Jeffery. White would be an excellent addition and be able to feast while Jeffery gets the attention. He's got the speed and downfield playmaking ability to be a big-play threat for the Bears. White or Amari Cooper should be there when the Bears pick at 7th overall in the first round of the draft.

Bears | Matt Slauson expects to be cleared    Tue Apr 7, 05:00 PM

Chicago Bears OG Matt Slauson (pectoral) expects to be medically cleared to take part in the Bears' offseason program which starts Monday, April 13.

Footballguys view: The Bears have re-worked their offensive line this offseason, and getting Slauson back will help. Slauson was on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn pectoral he suffered last season.

Bears | Stefen Wisniewski visited    Mon Apr 6, 02:34 PM

Free-agent C Stefen Wisniewski (Raiders) has visited with the Chicago Bears this offseason.

Footballguys view: That might not be a team of interest for Wisniewski since the Bears signed Will Montgomery in free agency last week. Offseason shoulder surgery is the reason that Wisniewski has gone unsigned so far. When healthy, he's a talented young center with good lateral agility after the snap. A few teams have shown interest, but no signing is imminent at this time.

Bears | Vic Beasley to visit    Sun Apr 5, 02:20 AM

Clemson OLB Vic Beasley will visit the Chicago Bears in the coming days.

Footballguys view: Beasley is one of the most explosive pass-rushers in the 2015 NFL draft. He can bend around the edge and get to the quarterback with ease. Beasley needs to add weight to his frame if he wants to play up to his potential as a pro.
