Bears | Jay Cutler not guaranteed starting job    Wed Sep 28, 12:00 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is not guaranteed to be the starter whenever he's medically cleared to return, according to head coach John Fox. Cutler apparently pushed to start in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys but was not cleared.

Footballguys view: The Fox/Cutler relationship has been an interesting one to watch. Last year, Cutler seemed to win his coach over as Fox didn't seem too excited to have Cutler on the team when he took over. Now, Cutler may have fallen out of favor. It really depends on how Brian Hoyer continues to play in Cutler's absence. Either way, we think the Bears (and Fox) look to find a new QB this offseason.

Bears | Chicago signing Joique Bell    Tue Sep 27, 02:30 PM

Free-agent RB Joique Bell (Lions) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Footballguys view: With Jeremy Langford (ankle) down, the Bears had to add another body at the RB position. We should see rookie Jordan Howard as the team's lead back, but Bell gives them veteran depth. In fact, Kadeem Carey (hamstring) is also banged up so we could see Bell as the primary backup to Howard this week.

Bears | John Fox believes in Jordan Howard    Mon Sep 26, 09:56 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard might be in line to shoulder the load with RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) sidelined, and head coach John Fox said it would not be impossible. 'I think there's guys in the league that do,' Fox said. 'Remember, Jordan is a rookie that we've seen for three real NFL football games. So we'll kind of evaluate as we move forward.'

Footballguys view: It must be difficult for Fox to admit that. He's known as a coach who doesn't really trust rookies. He's forced to trust Howard with Jeremy Langford down for a few weeks. Howard is a powerful runner who can wear down a defense as the game goes on. Consider him a low-end RB2 while Langford is out.

Bears | Jeremy Langford out a few weeks    Mon Sep 26, 07:42 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) will miss four to six weeks with an ankle sprain, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With Langford out, the team turns to rookie Jordan Howard as their lead back. Howard is a big back with good instincts for running the ball. Consider Howard a low-end RB2 while he's the starter for the Bears.

Bears | Jeremy Langford dealing with ankle sprain    Mon Sep 26, 02:51 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) left Week 3 with an injury initially feared to be an Achilles' tear, but team doctors have ruled it out after further examination. Instead, the team believes he only sprained his ankle.

Footballguys view: No word on whether or not this is the dreaded high-ankle sprain. The team will monitor him during the week, but fantasy owners need to have other options at the ready. Rookie Jordan Howard could take over as the lead back if Langford misses any time.

Bears | Brian Hoyer decent in Week 3    Mon Sep 26, 09:48 AM

Bears | Jeremy Langford carted off    Sun Sep 25, 10:11 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford (Achilles') was carted off to the locker room in the third quarter of the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a possible Achilles' injury.

Footballguys view: Jordan Howard was more impressive than Langford before he went out, so this could just accelerate a changing of the guard in the Chicago backfield. Next week he'll face the Detroit defense that gave up a 100-yard game to Eddie Lacy today.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery active for SNF    Sun Sep 25, 07:25 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) is active for the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Jeffery has some risk of his knee issue flaring up, but he has a gunner at quarterback in Brian Hoyer and a history of playing well through injuries.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery expected to play Sunday    Sun Sep 25, 09:31 AM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) is expected to play in Week 3's game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Jeffery is the type of player that you have to start as long as he is active. Brian Hoyer hasn't played much at all with Jeffery, but it only takes a few bold downfield targets for Jeffery to put up a huge game. Jeffery has played well through injuries in the past.

Bears | Danny Trevathan surgery details    Sun Sep 25, 12:46 AM

Chicago Bears LB Danny Trevathan (thumb) underwent surgery to reattach a ligament in his thumb, according to head coach John Fox. Trevathan has already been ruled out for Week 3.

Bears | Brian Hoyer concerned about chemistry?    Sat Sep 24, 10:38 PM

Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer has pointed out throughout the week that he has not had many reps with WR Alshon Jeffery this season.

Footballguys view: Jeffery is still the kind of receiver who can adjust on the fly to poor passes and otherwise have his talent reign on the field no matter the circumstances. Hoyer was able to feed DeAndre Hopkins enough to make him an elite fantasy wide receiver, so as long as Jeffery is active tonight, you have to play him.

Bears | Chicago rules out two players    Sat Sep 24, 03:13 PM

Chicago Bears RB Ka'Deem Carey (hamstring) and DT Eddie Goldman (ankle) did not travel with the team for their Week 3 game and have been ruled out.

Footballguys view: Watch for rookie Jordan Howard as the primary backup behind starter Jeremy Langford. If you've got the space on your bench, we like Howard as a 'lottery ticket' RB who could pay off later in the year.

Bears | Friday injury report for Bears    Fri Sep 23, 07:14 PM

Chicago Bears LB Danny Trevathan (thumb) has been ruled out for Week 3. RB Ka'Deem Carey (hamstring) and DT Eddie Goldman (ankle) are listed as doubtful. SS Adrian Amos (concussion), CB Bryce Callahan (concussion), CB Kyle Fuller (knee), OT Bobby Massie (toe), CB Tracy Porter (knee), FS Chris Prosinski (calf), OG Josh Sitton (shoulder), DT Will Sutton (elbow) and LB Willie Young (knee) are listed as questionable. Carey, Goldman and Trevathan did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 23. Amos, Callahan, Fuller, Porter, Prosinski and Young were limited during practice, while Massie, Sitton and Sutton fully participated in practice. CB Sherrick McManis (wrist) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report.

Bears | Jay Cutler doubtful     Fri Sep 23, 07:11 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 23, and is listed as doubtful for Week 3.

Footballguys view: There was some talk earlier in the week that Cutler might try to push to play, but that hasn't happened. Brian Hoyer will get the start, which is much worse for the Bears win/loss prospects than their passing game fantasy prospects.

Jay Cutler player page

Bears | Alshon Jeffery limited Friday    Fri Sep 23, 02:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) got in a limited practice Friday, Sept. 23, and will likely be deemed questionable for Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: It sounds like Jeffery is going to play. If he can't, Kevin White, Eddie Royal, Cole Beasley, Mohamed Sanu, and Michael Thomas are all viable injury hedges at wide receiver. Jeffery has played well through injuries in the past, so if he's active, you have to go with him, even with Brian Hoyer (who fed DeAndre Hopkins last year) at quarterback.

Bears | Thursday practice report for Chicago    Thu Sep 22, 11:08 PM

Chicago Bears S Adrian Amos (concussion), CB Bryce Callahan (concussion), RB Ka'Deem Carey (hamstring), DT Eddie Goldman (ankle), LB Lamarr Houston (knee) and LB Danny Trevathan (thumb) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 22. CB Kyle Fuller (knee), OT Bobby Massie (toe), CB Tracy Porter (knee), FS Chris Prosinski (calf), OG Josh Sitton (shoulder), DT Will Sutton (elbow) and LB Willie Young (knee) were limited participants, and CB Sherrick McManis (wrist) was a full participant.

Footballguys view: Carey is unlikely to play Sunday night, leaving rookie Jordan Howard as the #2 back behind Jeremy Langford. If Howard can look better than Langford for the second straight week, he could push Langford for the starting job.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery does not practice    Thu Sep 22, 03:24 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Footballguys view: We're hoping Jeffery plays, but along with his knee, he has a quarterback issue. Brian Hoyer isn't exactly an exciting prospect--then again, this Dallas defense is pretty shaky. We have Jeffery as a solid WR2 based on the match-up and talent, but keep an eye on practices the next two days.

Bears | Jay Cutler remains out    Thu Sep 22, 02:36 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Footballguys view: No surprises here. It's Hoyer time! However, we would not go anywhere near Brian Hoyer this week against Dallas. Well, from a fantasy perspective, we mean. We're sure he's personally a nice chap. Just not in your lineup.

Bears | Jay Cutler sits out    Wed Sep 21, 05:15 PM

Bears | Alshon Jeffery limited    Wed Sep 21, 02:44 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Footballguys view: The Bears are going to have Brian Hoyer at QB this week, but we still trust Jeffery as a low-end WR1. If he's a full participant in practice on Friday, it will only cement our evaluation.

Bears | Jay Cutler out 2-3 weeks    Wed Sep 21, 08:17 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is expected to miss two to three weeks, according to a source. His timeline depends on how he heals over the next three days.

Footballguys view: Cutler was uninspiring against the Eagles in Week 2...before and after the injury. The Bears are going to turn to Brian Hoyer while Cutler is out. He's a seasoned veteran who should be able to keep Alshon Jeffery fed.

Bears | Lamarr Houston has torn ACL    Tue Sep 20, 04:22 PM

Chicago Bears DL Lamarr Houston (knee) underwent an MRI exam that confirmed he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to sources.

Footballguys view: More bad news for the Bears here. Houston is a fine pass-rusher when healthy, but now he's torn both his left and right ACLs in only a couple of years. Entering his age 30 season in 2017, Houston may not be back with the Bears -- especially with his $6.9 million cap number.

Bears | Eddie Goldman likely to miss four weeks    Tue Sep 20, 04:10 PM

Chicago Bears DT Eddie Goldman (ankle) is expected to miss four weeks with a high left ankle sprain, according to sources.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick last year for the Bears, Goldman has looked good when he's not banged up. His rookie season ended after 15 games due to a toe injury, and now he's got to deal with this high-ankle sprain. Goldman should be back for the team's Thursday night game against the Packers in Week 7.

Bears | Danny Trevathan to have surgery    Tue Sep 20, 02:46 PM

Bears | Jay Cutler won't need surgery    Tue Sep 20, 02:16 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) will not need surgery on his sprained thumb, according to head coach John Fox.

Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran QB here, but it doesn't mean he's going to play in Week 3. The Bears treat injury information like National Security secrets, so don't expect much of an update before -- or even on -- Friday.

Bears | Jay Cutler absence expected    Tue Sep 20, 10:53 AM

Updating earlier reports, Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is expected to miss a period of time, and the Bears are preparing for his absence. The question that remains is whether Cutler has surgery to repair the injury.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about his expected absence as more information is revealed about this injury. In the meantime, veteran QB Brian Hoyer takes over as the starter if/when Cutler is out. Hoyer may give Texans fans nightmares, but he's better than a lot of backups out there. We're not rushing to get Hoyer at all, but we feel he should do enough to keep properly feeding WR Alshon Jeffery for fantasy owners.
