Bears | Devin Hester competing Mon Jun 17, 11:06 AM
Chicago Bears KR Devin Hester is competing to keep his job as the primary kick returner. WR Earl Bennett is also fielding kicks, and at age 31, Hester could become a salary cap casualty.
| Footballguys view: We doubt Bennett beats out Hester for that position. The team has moved Hester out of the mix at WR so he can focus solely on being a return man. Hester has a $2.9MM cap number this year. There's only $833k of dead money in that contract, so if the team cut Hester they would save $2.1MM. |

Bears | J'Marcus Webb certainty for RT? Fri Jun 14, 10:46 PM
Chicago Bears OT J'Marcus Webb is the team's starting right tackle, and it is unlikely he will be pushed much for the job unless he has an absolutely awful training camp and preseason.
| Footballguys view: It's a good spot for Webb. He was miscast as a Left Tackle but can be a quality player on the right side where he'll see less athletic pass rushers. The Bears have done a brilliant job with their O-Line upgrades this offseason. |
Bears | Alshon Jeffery locked in Fri Jun 14, 10:45 PM
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) has been limited during offseason workouts, but the team is pleased with how he has worked to get himself in better physical condition. He even added strength, working with teammate WR Brandon Marshall in Miami. 'He's had a really good spring. Mentally he's been locked in since we got started,' receivers coach Mike Groh said Friday, June 14. 'He's made good improvement on the field with things (we) wanted to work on, and in terms of grasp of offense, he's where he should be.'
| Footballguys view: Jeffery is an exciting prospect to consider for fantasy owners. We love the upgrades the Bears have made to their offense this offseason. They'll likely protect QB Jay Cutler better and better weapons like TE Martellus Bennett will only help open things up for the other receivers in the passing game. His current ADP is WR47 and he's coming off the board at 12.10 in 12 team PPR leagues. |

Bears | Want Jay Cutler to get ball out quicker Fri Jun 14, 05:14 PM
Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh said the team wants QB Jay Cutler to throw the ball quicker in order to avoid some sacks. 'We've stressed that we want the ball out. There's a rhythm to what we do. He appreciates that, and he knows if he's getting the ball out he's not getting hit. We're all involved in it and everybody is responsible for it. Since we said Day 1 that's our No. 1 goal, we've got to live up to it and make sure we are not holding onto the ball forever,' Cavanaugh said.
| Footballguys view: Things are shaping up nicely for Cutler in 2013. The team added more weapons in the passing game like TE Martellus Bennett and also upgraded the offensive line this offseason. Cutler is going to be protected better and will have more options to throw to. Under new head coach Marc Trestman we could see Cutler perform like he did back in Denver. Cutler is a value QB and can be a target if you wait at the position. His current ADP is QB19 and he's coming off the board at 12.02. |

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (undisclosed) suffered a tweak on a long pass he caught in organized team activities last week and was limited in practice Tuesday, June 11.
| Footballguys view: The team will be careful with Jeffery as he deals with this injury. He's set to make a bigger impact this year as the Bears' WR2 opposite Brandon Marshall. In the new Marc Trestman offense we could see Jeffery become an every week flex option for fantasy owners. His current ADP is WR48 and he's coming off the board at 12.09 in 12 team PPR leagues. |

The Chicago Bears have signed free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu (Vikings) and WR Jerrell Jackson (Jacksonville). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also waived WRs Demetrius Fields and Dale Moss.
| Footballguys view: The Bears are trying to find quality depth at the WR position. Aromashodu returns to Chicago after playing with the Bears from 2008-2010. He brings a vertical element to the field but has not developed as a route runner during his pro career. Jackson was an UDFA (2012) out of Missouri and is known for his run after the catch ability. |

Bears | Sign Tony Fiammetta Mon Jun 10, 01:06 PM
The Chicago Bears signed FB Tony Fiammetta.

Bears | Receive conditional pick for Gabe Carimi Sun Jun 9, 08:36 PM
The Chicago Bears traded former first-round pick OL Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday, June 9, for a conditional draft pick, according to a source. Carimi must pass a physical with the Buccaneers for the deal to become official.
| Footballguys view: The Bears are moving on here. Carimi has been a disappointment for them since being a first-round pick by the former regime in 2011. The team has seriously upgraded their offensive line this offseason and there was no guarantee that Carimi would have been the starter at right guard. |
Bears | JaMarcus Russell looks good during workout Fri Jun 7, 07:43 PM
Free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) looked good during his workout for the Chicago Bears Friday, June 7, but the team is unlikely to sign him to a deal. A league source said Russell showed a 'big arm' and a 'good positive demeanor' but also showed a bit of rust with timing and accuracy of his throws.
| Footballguys view: The Bears are just updating their emergency list here. Russell has been working out with former NFL QB Jeff Garcia at T.E.S.T. West in California as he tries to make a comeback. The Bears seem happy with their backup QBs Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard right now. |

Bears | Jay Cutler and Mike Tice had ugly relationship Fri Jun 7, 01:20 PM
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler and offensive coordinator Mike Tice were on such bad terms last season that QB Josh McCown had to act as a liason between the two. Tice is no longer with the team. 'I was just talking to McCown this morning and one of the things we said is it's so cool to come to work where it's not one of those things where it's dreadful,' WR Brandon Marshall said this week.
| Footballguys view: Cutler could have a better relationship with new head coach Marc Trestman. That could help Cutler play better in 2013 and better utilize the weapons around him. The Bears have done a good job upgrading their offense line and receiving weapons this offseason. Cutler is a nice value at QB18 and can be part of a quality rotation if you wait until the later rounds to draft a quarterback. |

Bears | More on Brandon Marshall's hip, health Tue Jun 4, 06:39 PM
Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall (hip) returned to the practice field on Tuesday, June 4, to take part in organized team activities after missing much of the offseason because of arthroscopic surgery on his hip in January. The wideout expressed a fear that his hip will become a long-term problem, since he's had multiple procedures on it and has been affected by the injury in each of the past two years, but he's optimistic about his condition for the time being. Marshall participated in only individual drills on Tuesday but expects to do more at future sessions, with the goal of being at full speed by training camp. He feels that he hasn't lost any mobility or speed, and he displayed what appeared to be his top form during workouts.

Bears | JaMarcus Russell to work out Tue Jun 4, 04:13 PM
The Chicago Bears will work out free agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) Friday, June 7, along with three other quarterbacks.
| Footballguys view: The Bears only have Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard as backup QBs behind Jay Cutler. Russell has been out of football since 2009 after being the number one overall pick in 2007. He's considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history but has been working hard at T.E.S.T. West to get back into the league. Former NFL QB Jeff Garcia has been mentoring Russell during this journey. He has a rocket arm but struggled with decision making during his pro career. |

Bears | Don't want to cut Gabe Carimi Fri May 24, 02:27 PM
The Chicago Bears do not want to cut OL Gabe Carimi. The team wants Carimi in organized team activities, and there is no financial gain for the team in cutting Carimi.
| Footballguys view: Carimi has been missing voluntary OTAs so he can train down in Arizona. He's going to work inside at Guard this year and will be competing for a backup job in training camp. |

Bears | TE depth chart open Wed May 22, 09:38 AM
The Chicago Bears' depth chart at tight end after TE Martellus Bennett is wide open. TE Fendi Onobun could seize an opportunity for playing time.
| Footballguys view: Onobun is a converted basketball player who never lived up to the hype during his time with the Rams. After he was waived by the Rams in 2011 Onobun bounced around to four different teams (Seahawks, Redskins, Jaguars, Bills) before finding a spot with the Bears this year. He's incredibly athletic but attitude, work ethic and maturity problems have held him back. If he impresses the coaching staff he could win the backup job behind Bennett. |
