Bears | Ka'Deem Carey on the bubble?    Sun Jul 23, 01:49 PM

Chicago Bears RB Ka'Deem Carey was left off ESPN.com Jeff Dickerson's 53-man roster projection.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky deal contains offset language    Sat Jul 22, 09:24 AM

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky's four-year rookie contract contains partial offsets, meaning that a portion of his deal is guaranteed if he is cut before it expires, according to a source.

Footballguys view: You never want to hear that a team is planning on a #2 overall pick not working out, but this is probably more to reflect how the league is quarterback thirsty, and even if Trubisky busts spectacularly before his rookie deal is over, someone will give him a second chance.

Bears | Kyle Fuller could be on trading block    Fri Jul 21, 06:39 PM

The Chicago Bears may look to trade CB Kyle Fuller during the preseason, in the opinion of ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: That would be a sign that the Bears really are doing a full reboot. Fuller has generally played well, but they may be looking to rebuild the entire defense which, given its success rate is very low, might not be a bad idea.

Bears | Danny Trevathan a PUP candidate    Fri Jul 21, 06:37 PM

Chicago Bears LB Danny Trevathan (knee) may begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of his knee injury, in the opinion of ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Bears | Zach Miller's spot in question?    Fri Jul 21, 06:31 PM

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) could be released during training camp if he is not able to return from his foot injury, in the opinion of ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: Not that Miller has much competition but am injury is enough to cost him his job it seems. We are avoiding the tight ends here regardless of who wins the job.

Bears | Jeremy Langford may be on bubble    Fri Jul 21, 06:23 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford will be on the roster bubble during training camp and is expected to compete with RB Ka'Deem Carey for a roster spot, in the opinion of ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: Jordan Howard is the only guy you should be looking at here and our opinion reflects his ADP as 7th running back taken and 12th player taken overall in early drafts. That said we don't expect Carey to beat out Langford, as we've seen a little more from him and not from Carey.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky signs    Wed Jul 19, 01:44 PM

Chicago Bears first-round QB Mitchell Trubisky signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, July 19. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Trubisky and the Bears rookies reported to training camp on Wednesday. Now signed, Trubisky is set to compete with free agent addition Mike Glennon. We see Glennon as the starter to open up the regular season, but Trubisky could get some starts later in the year.

Bears | Jeremy Langford slow to recover from surgery    Tue Jul 18, 12:43 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford suffered a high right ankle sprain in Week 3 that never truly went away. According to a league source, he had surgery on the ankle this offseason and has been slow to recover.

Footballguys view: Langford is competing for the no2 spot on the depth chart behind starter Jordan Howard. With more on the plate for Howard this year (and the addition of change-of-pace back Tarik Cohen), we should only see Langford touch the rock 50-ish times in 2017.

Bears | More big plays in Jordan Howard's future?    Tue Jul 18, 12:25 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard recorded seven runs of 25 yards or longer as a rookie in 2016, but four of those possessions ended with field goals. It's part of the reason Howard spent parts of his offseason working on his acceleration.

Footballguys view: Howard had a fantastic rookie season, finishing as the league's second-leading rusher with over 1,300 yards on the ground. He had 561 rushing yards after contact in 2016, which ranked third in the league behind only Jay Ajayi (656) and Ezekiel Elliott (632). Last year, 27.8 percent of Howard's rushes went for first downs. He can clearly move the chains and pick up yards after contact, and now we could see Howard play with more explosion.

Bears | Two Chicago safeties to fight for FS job    Fri Jul 14, 06:21 PM

Chicago Bears S Adrian Amos and S Eddie Jackson are expected to compete for the starting free safety job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Amos wasn't great last season, but Jackson is coming off a season-ending injury. If he can be healthy he is very versatile though, and he is the type of a defender who can put points on the board when he gets the ball in his hands. We think Jackson is the guy.

Bears | Jordan Howard had eye surgery    Fri Jun 30, 05:04 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard (eye) underwent eye surgery in May in order to improve his eyesight.

Footballguys view: He hopes the improved vision will help him as a pass catcher. Howard was the league's second-leading rusher in 2016, running for over 1,300 yards. He also was targeted 50 times and caught 29 of those passes for 298 yards and one receiving touchdown. Fantasy owners are taking Howard off the board at RB9 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | No holdout expected for Mitchell Trubisky    Fri Jun 30, 04:30 PM

Chicago Bears first-round draft choice QB Mitchell Trubisky said he will report to training camp on time even though he has not signed his contract at this point.

Footballguys view: There's not many rookie holdouts anymore because of the rookie wage scale. We're sure the 'offset language' will be looked at closely, but both sides should be able to come to an agreement at or near the start of camp.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky endorses Mike Glennon    Fri Jun 30, 03:22 PM

Chicago Bears first-round QB Mitchell Trubisky threw his support behind Mike Glennon in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio on Friday, June 30.

Footballguys view: Glennon is the free agent addition who got a three-year, $45 million contract from the Bears earlier this year. In 2017, Glennon will have a cap hit of $14 million and a dead cap value of $18.5 million. He's the starter until Trubisky is ready for prime time. We could see Trubisky get a 'redshirt' year during his rookie season so long as Glennon doesn't fail miserably as the team's starter.

Bears | Victor Cruz working out of slot    Thu Jun 29, 09:26 PM

Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz worked mainly out of the slot during OTAs, and he said playing a position he is comfortable with helped him find a rhythm.

Footballguys view: An interesting note here...and a wise move by the Bears. Cruz saw his best years coming out of the slot, but the Giants moved him to the outside last year. In 2016, only one of Cruz's 39 receptions came from him lining up in the slot as it was then rookie Sterling Shepard taking over inside. It will be interesting to see how the Bears use him behind Cameron Meredith, Kevin White and Kendall Wright in 2017.

Bears | Zach Miller not a lock    Mon Jun 26, 12:07 PM

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) isn't a lock to make the team, in the opinion of beat writer Brad Biggs. Miller will be pushed for a job by TE Daniel Brown, TE Ben Braunecker and TE MyCole Pruitt.

Footballguys view: We'd agree with that sentiment. Once the Bears selected Adam Shaheen in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft, Miller was put on notice. Miller saw his season cut short last year in Week 10 when he suffered a lisfranc injury to his right foot. With the collection of talent at the position, Miller is likely to split time/targets in 2017 if he makes the final roster. He has a $2.3 million cap hit this year with only $500,000 remaining in dead money.

  Bears | Ka'Deem Carey not a lock    Thu Jun 22, 10:30 AM

Chicago Bears RB Ka'Deem Carey isn't a lock to make the final roster, and he'll have to improve on special teams to enhance his chances of making the team.

Footballguys view: This isn't a shock considering how few and far between his carries were in 2016. It's Carey's final year on his rookie deal and with Jordan Howard the main back, there's a good chance Carey won't see that play out.

Bears | Markus Wheaton has good chance to start    Thu Jun 22, 10:22 AM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton likely has a good chance to start on the outside for the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers used Wheaton in the slot, but he wasn't nearly as productive as he was on the outside.

Footballguys view: We're not sure if it really will make much of a difference where he lines up with the Bears. Wheaton was underwhelming with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throwing him the ball when Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was tossing him passes. He is unlikely to see an equivalent level of play out of either Mike Glennon or rookie Mitchell Trubisky, so we're not sold that he finally reaches his potential in Chicago.

Bears | Kevin White healthy, expanding his game    Thu Jun 15, 11:37 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (leg, ankle) is practicing at full speed and working on expanding his route tree, and he said he has to show what he can do this season.

Footballguys view: Star potential has always been there with White, but injuries have knocked his pro career off track. If healthy, White can use his speed to get by defenders in the blink of an eye. He'll work as the no2 target in the passing game behind WR Cameron Meredith.

Bears | Jordan Howard eyeing more work as receiver    Wed Jun 14, 01:48 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard expects a larger role in the passing game this year after converting only 29-of-50 targets for 298 yards and one touchdown as a rookie.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. In PPR leagues, a larger role in the passing game for Howard would give him more value. Howard has a current ADP of RB9 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller could miss start of camp    Wed Jun 14, 02:33 AM

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) may not be ready when the team starts its training camp July 26, according to head coach John Fox.

Footballguys view: It's going to be close according to Fox. The team is set at the tight end position with free agent Dion Sims and second-round pick Adam Shaheen. Miller is in the final year of his deal with the Bears.

Bears | Markus Wheaton ready to play    Sat Jun 10, 11:14 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) is almost fully recovered from his shoulder injury. 'I'm waiting for them to let me loose,' Wheaton said. 'I feel great, though.'

Footballguys view: Wheaton has never played up to his potential as a pro. Injuries and inconsistencies held him back during his time with the Steelers. The veteran gets a fresh start with the Bears this year. Chicago must have a plan for Wheaton after signing him to a two-year, $11 million dollar deal with $6 million dollars guaranteed. Wheaton is competing to be the third receiver for the Bears behind Kevin White and Cameron Meredith.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky running second-team    Wed Jun 7, 02:38 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has been running the second-team offense since QB Mark Sanchez (knee) injured his knee last week. With Sanchez not expected back until training camp, Trubisky is set to continue in the role during next week's mandatory minicamp.

Footballguys view: The rookie first-round pick should see a lot of action with the second team while Sanchez recovers. By the time Sanchez is back, Trubisky may have the primary backup role behind Mike Glennon sewed up.

Bears | Evaluating Chicago's WRs    Mon Jun 5, 09:43 AM

Chicago Bears WRs Cameron Meredith (thumb), Kevin White and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Chicago Tribune writer Dan Wiederer. WRs Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright, Josh Bellamy, Deonte Thompson and Daniel Braverman are considered to be on the bubble. WRs Tanner Gentry, Rueben Randle and Titus Davis are viewed as long shots for the final roster.

Footballguys view: Meredith and potentially White have fantasy value, but there's not much else that gets us excited here. Wheaton couldn't stay healthy or impress during his time with the Steelers. Cruz is a great story (and a great dancer) but not a great fantasy asset. We're a bit intrigued by Gentry in super deep dynasty leagues as his 49 targets of 20 yards or more in 2016 led the FBS (per PFF). That's about it really...and don't expect the Bears passing game to light the world on fire no matter if Mike Glennon or Mitchell Trubisky is the starter at quarterback.

Bears | Lamarr Houston on track    Sat Jun 3, 02:34 PM

Chicago Bears LB Lamarr Houston (knee) said he is on schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but does not want to predict when he may be completely recovered. Houston has been participating in organized team activities.

Footballguys view: Houston has a couple of knee injuries over the last three years, and he's not played up to the five-year, $35 million contract the Bears gave him in 2014. He's got a $6.9 million cap hit this year with around $1.9 million remaining in dead money.

Bears | More on Cameron Meredith injury    Fri Jun 2, 02:12 PM

Updating a previous report, surgery has not been ruled out for Chicago Bears for WR Cameron Meredith (thumb) after he suffered ligament damage in one of his thumbs during OTAs on Thursday, June 1.

Footballguys view: While he is expected to miss six to eight weeks, Meredith injury is not believed to be serious 'in the big picture,' according to the Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer. We should see Meredith back in action sometime during the preseason.

Bears | Cameron Meredith suffers thumb injury    Thu Jun 1, 07:51 PM

Chicago Bears WR Cameron Meredith (thumb) suffered a thumb ligament injury Thursday, June 1, and will miss the rest of the offseason program. However, he expects to be ready for training camp, according to sources.

Footballguys view: It's a ligament problem according to reports, so watch Meredith's progress when he returns to practice in training camp. He's going off the board at WR41 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Chicago adds Michael Burton    Wed May 31, 05:55 PM

Bears | Jordan Howard not resting on his laurels    Wed May 31, 01:23 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard is 'noticeably slimmer' entering his second season after finishing second in the league in rushing as a rookie. Howard intends to play at 225 pounds in 2017 and hopes not to come off the field as much.

Footballguys view: Howard doesn't want to be known as a one-year wonder. Instead, he's working to stay on the field and stay effective with the rock in his hands. Howard has a current ADP of RB7 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Chicago takes back Connor Shaw waiver    Tue May 30, 05:56 PM

Chicago Bears QB Connor Shaw will remain with the Bears for now after Chicago rescinded its waiving Shaw Tuesday, May 30. Shaw will participate in organized team activities but could be waived once QB Mark Sanchez (knee) is fully healed.

Footballguys view: Welp, that's a bit awkward....but Shaw should know the deal. We'd expect him to be waived - and actually hit the waiver wire - when Sanchez is back for training camp.

Link to story

Bears | Mark Sanchez hurts knee    Tue May 30, 05:51 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mark Sanchez (knee) injured his left knee during organized team activities Tuesday, May 30.

Footballguys view: This injury just means more reps for Mitchell Trubisky and Mike Glennon. We should see Glennon as the starter, but Trubisky is clearly the QB of the future. Sanchez is expected to return for the start of training camp.

Link to story
Mark Sanchez player page

Bears | Connor Shaw waived    Tue May 30, 11:42 AM

Chicago Bears QB Connor Shaw was waived Tuesday, May 30.

Footballguys view: The Bears are more than fine with three arms in practice. Mike Glennon is the starter with Mitchell Trubisky as the rookie/developmental quarterback. Mark Sanchez is the veteran behind those two, so no need for Shaw on the roster.

Bears | Three Bears kick returner options    Sat May 27, 02:49 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen, RB Benny Cunningham and WR Deonte Thompson are expected to compete for the kick returner job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Cohen may be the most exciting player to watch here. Nicknamed "Tarik the Freak" in college at North Carolina A&T, Cohen has some Darren Sproles (Eagles) to his game because of his compact build (5'6" 179 pounds) and incredible foot frequency.

Bears | Victor Cruz joins Bears    Thu May 25, 02:22 PM

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears Thursday, May 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Cruz actually could have an impact with the Bears if he has even an ounce of gas left in the tank. Kevin White is always hurt and other than Markus Wheaton, there's nobody else there who seems like they have promise behind White and Cameron Meredith. Mind you, Cruz looked done last season with the New York Giants, so buyer beware.

Bears | Kevin White working on basics    Thu May 25, 12:28 AM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has spent the last few months working to align his stride after a stress fracture in his left tibia ruined his rookie season and a left fibular spiral fracture and severe ankle ligament damage cost him 12 games last season, according to the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell.

Footballguys view: White has a lot to catch up on after missing his rookie season in 2015. A first-round pick in 2015, White needed to refine his route-running ability coming out of college...and that's still the case. He should be considered a potentially high upside WR5 for fantasy owners. White will compete for targets with Cameron Meredith in the starting lineup.

Bears | Kyle Long may move to left side    Sun May 21, 06:46 PM

The Chicago Bears are considering moving OG Kyle Long (ankle) to left guard and OG Josh Sitton to right guard when Long is ready to return to the field, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Long is still recovering from the ankle surgery that he had last November. At this point, he's only running on an underwater treadmill. Expect Long to miss all of OTAs and get eased into action once training camp rolls around.

Bears | Zach Miller close to 100 percent     Sat May 20, 10:57 PM

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) said Satrurday, May 20, that he is 'close to 100 percent' but plans to take it easy during OTAs.

Footballguys view: Miller can be productive when healthy, but staying healthy has been a problem for him as a pro. We should see rookie Adam Shaheen (Ashland) push for the starting job this year. Shaheen was often referred to as "Baby Gronk" on Draft Twitter, and he is certainly a physical talent with incredible upside. Entering his age-33 season, Miller is unlikely to have much fantasy punch left.

Bears | Chicago inks Adam Shaheen    Fri May 19, 03:42 PM

Chicago Bears second-round pick TE Adam Shaheen signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, May 19. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: He was called "Baby Gronk" leading up to the draft, and Shaheen was certainly a favorite of Draft Twitter. The Ashland prospect dominated the Division II level, and he did it with a size/speed combination rarely seen at that level. Shaheen measures in at 6'7" 280 pounds, and he says he got big in college eating Chipotle. He'll work behind Zach Miller this year, but Shaheen is one of our favorite rookie TEs to add in dynasty leagues.

Bears | Victor Cruz's Bears visit continues    Tue May 16, 09:19 AM

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is continuing to meet with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, May 16.

Footballguys view: The Bears may have interest in Cruz as a veteran who could fill the role vacated by Eddie Royal. They've added some questionable talents earlier this year at wide receiver, including Markus Wheaton and Kendall Wright. Cruz isn't the same player he used to be, but perhaps he'd find a spot on the WR-needy Bears roster.

Bears | Tarik Cohen to see third-down work    Tue May 16, 09:01 AM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen will see work on third downs, according to head coach John Fox.

Footballguys view: Cohen is small but compact, and he's freakishly athletic in the open field. The Bears need a change-of-pace back to play behind Jordan Howard, and Cohen could easily fill that role.

Link to story

Bears | Eddie Jackson signs contract    Mon May 15, 04:02 PM

Chicago Bears S Eddie Jackson signed his four-year rookie deal Monday, May 15.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick out of Alabama, Jackson is an instinctive player who seems to always be around the ball. Jackson can make plays as a return man as well. He'll compete for playing time early as a rookie.

Bears | Chicago inks Titus Davis    Sun May 14, 03:54 PM

Free-agent WR Titus Davis (Jets) signed an undisclosed contract with the Chicago Bears and waived WR Levonte Whitfield on Sunday, May 14.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Central Michigan in 2015, Davis has been bouncing around the league since becoming a pro. A productive player in college, Davis has decent size (6'1" 200 pounds) but needs to show better burst at the stem of his routes in order to get proper separation.

Bears | Kevin White 'looks very healthy'    Sat May 13, 11:47 AM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has been limited to four games in his first two years due to injuries, but head coach John Fox appears to like how his third season is starting.

Footballguys view: White had amazing ability two years ago, but have these injuries robbed him of his speed and playmaking skills? We'll have to wait and see. We still have stock in White in dynasty formats as it's tough to let go of a former first-round pick (and we're just stubborn sometimes). Fantasy owners in redraft leagues should look at him as a late-round flier. He's WR59 (12.07) in 12-team PPR leagues at this time.
