Bears | David Montgomery inks rookie deal Thu Jun 13, 08:02 PM
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery signed his rookie contract Thursday, June 13, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
|Footballguys view: Montgomery will vie for touches in what looks to be a three-headed committee to open the season. He could secure the largest share by far with strong play, although his current ADP assumes that he will.|

Bears | Anthony Miller likely on track for camp Thu Jun 13, 03:19 PM
Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller (shoulder) has made enough progress from offseason shoulder surgery to make head coach Matt Nagy optimistic about his chances of being ready for the start of training camp.
|Footballguys view: Miller had shoulder surgery back in January, and he's always been on track for training camp. With no known setbacks, that seems to still be the case. Miller's seven touchdowns last year inflated his fantasy value. This season, several factors (and other players) stand in Miller's way of doing more. We like him as more of a WR5 with upside in a high-powered passing attack.|
Bears | Chicago optimistic Trey Burton will be ready Thu Jun 13, 02:44 PM
Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) underwent surgery for a sports hernia during the offseason, but head coach Matt Nagy still 'feels good' about Burton's chances of being ready for the start of training camp, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.
|Footballguys view: In his first season with the Bears in 2018, Burton finished as the No. 6 fantasy tight end in standard-scoring formats. He might be hard pressed to duplicate that production this year, especially with fellow TE Adam Shaheen healthy. Burton's timeline in recovery always had him back for training camp, so he seems to be on track.|

Bears | David Montgomery's receiving skills impressing Thu Jun 13, 12:52 PM
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery has impressed in minicamp with his pass-catching skills, 'He's making plays,' Bears head coach Matt Nagy said. 'We always knew he had great hands. You don't know how great of a route runner a college back is, but he's a really good route runner.'
|Footballguys view: We love Montgomery's no-nonsense approach as a runner. He's intent, determined and tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. So far this offseason, we've heard plenty of good things about the rookie's ability as a receiver out of the backfield. He's got to contend with veteran Mike Davis in training camp, and Tarik Cohen will get plenty of work in that backfield. Right now, Montgomery is going off the board at RB21 (4.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Bears | Chicago unlikely to pursue Matt Bryant Fri Jun 7, 06:39 PM
Free-agent PK Matt Bryant (Falcons) likely will not be an option for the Chicago Bears since he has not handled kickoff duties since 2008 and has not kicked for a cold-weather outdoor team since 2003, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
|Footballguys view: The Bears should wait until final cuts and add one of the kickers that loses a kicker battle, but performs well this summer. Bryant is proven, but it sounds like he would be a bad fit on the Bears.|

Bears | David Montgomery may have decent role Fri Jun 7, 06:24 PM
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery should have the chance to earn a solid role in the offense during his rookie season, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
|Footballguys view: Montgomery will be part of a three-man committee at running back. If he can decisively outplay Tarik Cohen or Mike Davis, he might earn a larger role, but for now his ADP might be a little aggressive, assuming the Bears stick with this plan all year.|
Bears | Riley Ridley unlikely to play much Thu Jun 6, 02:57 AM
Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley is unlikely to play much as a rookie, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, who writes that Ridley's best-case scenario for 2019 is likely a 'small role in a rotation at wide receiver.'
|Footballguys view: Ridley is probably the fifth wide receiver on the Bears depth chart at this time. That means he won't be playing much if at all as a rookie in 2019. Ridley, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia, is a physical possession receiver who has the strength to rip away contested catches. He's nuanced as a route runner and can get separation with savvy because he's not the fastest or quickest out there. We'll monitor him in deep dynasty formats.|
Bears | Emanuel Hall undergoes surgery Wed Jun 5, 07:18 PM

Bears | Trey Burton to miss workouts Wed May 29, 03:10 PM
Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) will not participate in the offseason workouts because he is recovering from sports hernia surgery he had a few months ago.
|Footballguys view: The potential is there with Burton...it always has been, but the kid needs to stay healthy. The team believes Burton will be back in time for training camp. We'll see if he can build on his chemistry with QB Mitchell Trubisky in his second season. Burton has a current ADP of TE18 (13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Bears | Chicago signs Riley Ridley to deal Mon May 13, 07:32 PM
Chicago Bears fourth-round draft choice WR Riley Ridley signed a four-year contract with the Bears Monday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Ridley is the younger brother of Falcons star WR Calvin Ridley. He's got good size, measuring in at 6'1" 199 pounds. He's not a burner, but Ridley knows how to use his body and concentration to win consistently at the catch point. He will compete in training camp for one of the final spots at the WR position.|
Bears | David Montgomery a feature back? Fri May 10, 11:00 PM
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery could become a 'three-down back' for the offense, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com.
|Footballguys view: Montgomery has three-down skills but so does Mike Davis and Tarik Cohen is one of the most dangerous receiving backs in the league. For now this is a committee, but if Montgomery impresses, he could clarify the situation in his favor over the course of his rookie contract.|
Bears | Javon Wims on the bubble Thu May 9, 02:47 AM
Chicago Bears WRs Javon Wims, Marvin Hall and Emanuel Hall are likely competing for one spot on the team's 53-man roster, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
|Footballguys view: The Bears added Cordarrelle Patterson in free agency and they drafted Riley Ridley, so the WR corps is a bit cramped. One of the three players vying for the final WR spot is likely to have to standout on special teams in order to make the 53-man roster.|

Bears | David Montgomery confident in his hands Tue May 7, 05:07 AM
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery feels he can be an impact player catching balls out of the backfield. 'I'm very confident in myself as far as catching the ball,' Montgomery said. 'I think I catch the ball well. I played quarterback in high school, so I was catching the ball every play we ran out of the gun, so I got used to it over time.'
|Footballguys view: Montgomery is a steady runner who can use his instincts and guile to maximize yardage on most every carry. As a receiver out of the backfield, Montgomery does a good job of looking passes into his hands with his arms extended away from his body. We love Montgomery's skill set and ability to be a workhorse for a team, and that includes his ability to stay on the field all three downs.|
Bears | Riley Ridley praised by head coach Tue May 7, 05:04 AM
Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley was praised by head coach Matt Nagy for his work during the team's first minicamp practice on Friday, May 3. 'I thought he looked good, not a lot of mental errors,' Nagy said.
|Footballguys view: Ridley has an impressive skill set when it comes to the nuances of playing the WR position. He's not a burner, but Ridley knows how to tell a story with his routes and get open. Ridley has sure hands and was a bit of a touchdown hog for the Bulldogs in college. We're excited to see him with the Bears and will monitor his progress in dynasty formats.|

Bears | Leonard Floyd's option picked up Wed May 1, 02:06 PM
Chicago Bears LB Leonard Floyd's fifth-year option was exercised Wednesday, May 1, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Floyd's best football is still ahead of him. He's continued to improve as a pro, but only has 15.5 sacks through three seasons. Floyd's natural pass-rushing ability could easily net him 10-plus sacks in a single season if he's clicking. A no-brainer move by the Bears here.|

Bears | Chicago checks out Devin Singletary's hands Sat Apr 20, 10:35 PM
Florida Atlantic RB Devin Singletary said his private workout with the Chicago Bears focused mainly on pass routes and catching the ball out of the backfield.
|Footballguys view: Singletary's last year at FAU saw him only catch six passes on the season. He did have 51 receptions total in three years at Florida Atlantic. Singletary did have some focus drops through college and that's something the Bears were wanting to see if he'd worked on through the pre-draft process. Any back in Matt Nagy's offense needs to be a capable receiver, and Singletary could be a target for the Bears around the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft.|
Bears | Myles Gaskin met with Chicago Fri Apr 19, 10:29 PM
Washington RB Myles Gaskin said he had a private visit with the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft.
|Footballguys view: Reports have come in over the last two weeks that the Bears will be looking for running back help in the 2019 NFL draft. Gaskin is likely to go off the board early on the final day of the draft, probably in the fourth round. He lacks prototypical size for a pro running back but Gaskin has great feet and can weave in and out of trouble.|

Bears | Chicago could consider RB in Round 3 Thu Apr 18, 02:46 AM
The Chicago Bears could be interested in a running back in the third round of this year's NFL Draft, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, who sees Memphis RB Darrell Henderson and Iowa State RB David Montgomery as potential fits for the offense that could still be on the board.
|Footballguys view: The Bears traded away Jordan Howard earlier this offseason, so they are in need of depth at the running back position. Given Matt Nagy's offense, the team should be looking for a versatile player who doesn't need to come off the field.|
Bears | Mike Davis to be primary back? Thu Apr 18, 02:19 AM
Chicago Bears RB Mike Davis is set to serve as the team's primary ball carrier during the 2019 season, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
|Footballguys view: Davis has always had a ton of talent, dating back to his college days at South Carolina. What he has yet is a full-time opportunity. Davis did post strong numbers last year in Seattle, finishing the 2018 season with 514 rushing yards and four touchdowns. We'll see what he can do as the Bears lead back if (when?) he wins the job in training camp.|

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen improved as a blocker last season, according to head coach Matt Nagy.
