Bears | Marquess Wilson misses practice    Thu Aug 27, 06:06 PM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 27. He likely will not be able to play in the third preseason game.

Footballguys view: Just what the Bears need, another wide receiver injury. Wilson is competing with Eddie Royal to be the team's second wide receiver opposite Alshon Jeffery. All three are banged up with various injuries, and oh yeah--rookie Kevin White may miss the entire season due to a shin injury.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery sits out again    Thu Aug 27, 05:57 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 27. He likely will not be able to play in the third preseason game.

Footballguys view: He's day-to-day, right John Fox? Stay tuned here.

Bears | Eddie Royal out Thursday    Thu Aug 27, 01:34 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (hip) missed practice Thursday, Aug. 27, for the second straight day. He's not ruled out for the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: Royal has had flashes of brilliance but too often regresses back to mediocrity. With rookie Kevin White sidelined for the foreseeable future, he'll get opportunity, but we don't trust him enough to make him more than a WR5 or WR6.

Bears | Eddie Royal dealing with injury    Wed Aug 26, 04:55 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (hip) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, because of a hip injury.

Footballguys view: With Alshon Jeffery (calf) and Kevin White (shin) banged up, the Bears don't need another injury at the receiver position. Royal's status for the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, is uncertain at this point.

Bears | Jermon Bushrod sits    Tue Aug 25, 04:18 PM

Chicago Bears OT Jermon Bushrod (back) did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 25, with a back injury.

Footballguys view: Not a huge deal for the Bears who are just going to give him a little rest. This offense is a bit murky, as we know Matt Forte will get carries (and is an RB1), and Alshon Jeffery will get his targets (and is a WR1). We are a bit concerned about the other half of the field, with Kevin White hurt and Martellus Bennett streaky (but is still a decent TE1). That makes Jay Cutler a little less attractive, and we see him as a mid-tier QB2.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery, Marquess Wilson still out    Tue Aug 25, 03:52 PM

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (calf) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) were not at practice again Tuesday, Aug. 25. Head coach John Fox reiterated that Jeffery is day-to-day.

Footballguys view: They can't afford anymore big injuries, so they should bubble wrap Jeffery. Owners will be fine with that, as he is a WR1 this season and worth a ton of production. Wilson has a shot to make an impact with rookie Kevin White's injury opening the door to more targets, but we aren't totally sold, and currently have him as a WR5 at best.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery day-to-day    Mon Aug 24, 05:53 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is day-to-day as he continues to nurse a calf injury, according to head coach John Fox.

Footballguys view: Fox said Jeffery will be back practicing once he is medically cleared. Earlier reports indicate that Jeffery may be shut down for the rest of the preseason as he deals with this calf injury. Stay tuned.

Bears | Marquess Wilson's injury not serious    Sun Aug 23, 09:19 AM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, but head coach John Fox said the injury is not consider serious.

Footballguys view: Wilson is the #3 receiver in the offense right with #7 pick Kevin White out for an extended period. Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte are also prominent in the pass offense, so Wilson is a bit player, healthy or not.

Bears | Jay Cutler solid in preseason game    Sat Aug 22, 09:38 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed eight of his nine pass attempts to five different receivers for 69 yards in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: Cutler is muddling through with his mix-and-match receivers, but we don't like him as more than a QB2. This offense still makes us nervous, as does the mercurial Cutler.

Bears | Marquess Wilson injures leg    Sat Aug 22, 08:17 PM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (leg) is having his right leg stretched by the training staff after limping off the field in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: Kevin White's surgery opened a door for Marquess Wilson to earn a lot of playing time but he needs to be healthy to do it. Someone needs to help keep defenses off Alshon Jeffery, and the tall, rangy third year receiver has good quickness and can make some tough catches along the sideline. He's still no better than a WR5 or WR6 right now.

Bears | Former GM has harsh words for Jay Cutler    Thu Aug 20, 10:02 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler lacks poise, according to former general manager Jerry Angelo. 'He's not comfortable reading defenses and consequently locks on to a favorite or predetermined target that may or may not be the right choice,' Angelo said. 'The less he's asked to see the better he is.'

Footballguys view: Also, water is wet, the sky is up and pain hurts. The league has long known that Cutler seems to fall apart in tough situations, and given that Brandon Marshall is gone, while rookie Kevin White is hurt (and potentially heading to injured reserve), he seems short on toys, which could mean short on patience. We'd rank him as a mid-range QB2 this season with some lingering concerns about the offense.

Bears | Two CHI WRs don't practice    Thu Aug 20, 05:36 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) and Kevin White (shin) did not practice Thursday, Aug. 20.

Footballguys view: White could be gone for the season and so Jeffery is too valuable to do anything but rest. They need him to be healthy and so do fantasy owners who would want him as a WR2. We're worried about how he handles being 'the man' with nobody really across him, but he did well when Brandon Marshall was out last season.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery won't play Monday    Tue Aug 18, 03:45 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) will not play in the Bears' second preseason game Monday, Aug. 24, as he continues to heal from a calf strain. He will travel with the team, however.

Footballguys view: Jeffery was out of his walking boot yesterday, but this calf injury will still hold him back. We may see him shut down for the rest of the preseason because of this calf problem.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery out of walking boot    Mon Aug 17, 05:12 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is no longer wearing a walking boot but is not ready to participate in practice at this point.

Footballguys view: The Bears have expressed confidence that Jeffery will be ready for the start of the regular season. It would be nice if he could make the third preseason game, but the Bears are going to be incredibly cautious after losing Kevin White for about half the year (or more).

Bears | Alshon Jeffery off crutches    Mon Aug 17, 09:35 AM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is no longer wearing a walking boot or using crutches, but he's still out of practice Monday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: The Bears have expressed confidence that Jeffery will be ready for the start of the regular season. It would be nice if he could make the third preseason game, but the Bears are going to be incredibly cautious after losing Kevin White for about half the year (or more).

Bears | Kevin White wants to return ASAP    Sat Aug 15, 05:57 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) said Saturday, Aug. 15, he wants to return to the field as soon as possible, but he understands that may not be until next season. 'I know it's going to be a little while. If I can come back and am able to play a little bit in the season, we'll do it,' White said. 'If I'm feeling OK. ... If they want me out there, then I'll try my best to get out there. I want to come back as soon as possible,' said White.

Footballguys view: He can want to return ASAP all he wants, but the team has to take a long-term view with the rookie. White has amazing talent when healthy as he's an explosive playmaker who has field-flipping speed. This injury has opened the door for Eddie Royal to do more in this offense. We'll also see Marquess Wilson get an increased opportunity to showcase his talent. Royal is reliable and has a higher floor, whereas Wilson is raw, unrefined as a route-runner--but with a high ceiling.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery should be ready for opener    Sat Aug 15, 12:42 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery's (calf) calf injury is not considered serious, and he should be ready for the start of the regular season, according to general manager Ryan Pace. Pace said Jeffery will not practice this week and will not play in the second preseason game.

Footballguys view: We would love to see Jeffery return to the field for the third preseason game and might keep him at the bottom of his third round wide receiver tier until he does because the Bears have been dodgy about his and Kevin White's injuries.

Bears | Kevin White could miss 2015 season    Sat Aug 15, 12:18 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) will undergo surgery to repair his shin injury and will miss at least the first six games of the regular season. General manager Ryan Pace said there is a chance White will miss the entire 2015 season.

Footballguys view: It's hard to imagine White having an impact this year, and he could easily be put on IR when his PUP eligibility is up. Eddie Royal gets the biggest bump, but Marquess Wilson will also get one more shot to prove himself as a starting level receiver while White is out. Jay Cutler's outlook has taken a hit with the injuries to White and Alshon Jeffery this week.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery out around a week    Fri Aug 14, 05:40 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is expected to be sidelined for about a week because of a mild calf strain, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This is not quite "day-to-day" but a big improvement from the worst case scenario when he was in a boot and on crutches. As long as he plays in the third preseason game without incident, he can stay at his original ranking.

Bears | Muscle injuries containing Alshon Jeffery    Fri Aug 14, 12:41 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) has been prevented from playing or practicing at full speed in the past because of muscle injuries. One team source said that was the only thing keeping Jeffery back from elevating his game to be the clear-cut No. 1 receiver.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery has calf strain    Fri Aug 14, 12:18 AM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is in a walking boot and on crutches after straining a calf muscle, and head coach John Fox said Thursday, Aug. 13, that Jeffery is day-to-day.

Footballguys view: This most certainly does not sound like a day-to-day injury. While there's no reason to assume Week 1 is in danger for Jeffery yet, it's within the realm of possibilities, as is us having to draft Jeffery without seeing him test the injury during the preseason. Leg injuries can be nagging issues for receivers, so it's rational to move Jeffery down to the bottom of the tier you had him in until we get more positive news on this injury. The Bears have been vague about Kevin White's shin injury, so we may not get much clarity on Jeffery's condition before the season if he doesn't take the field or practice soon.

Bears | Jay Cutler runs hurry-up    Thu Aug 13, 10:07 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler operated out of a hurry-up offense during a majority of a preseason game against the Washington Redskins Thursday, Aug. 13, finishing 4-of-7 for 42 yards in two series.

Footballguys view: Cutler was still throwing off his back foot, but he seemed more aggressive with the football. We'll see if he can impress in what is a make-or-break season in 2015.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery absent from sideline    Thu Aug 13, 08:15 PM

Bears | Jay Cutler improving?    Thu Aug 13, 05:34 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has shown better mechanics recently under new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase said Cutler's ability to communicate with teammates has stood out and he's able to get wide receivers on the same page.

Footballguys view: Will Cutler listen to his coaches this year? It's a make-or-break season for Cutler in Chicago, and he needs to improve if he wants to stick around after this year. He's a QB2 with upside because of Gase and the weapons around him.

Bears | Matt Forte doesn't expect as many catches    Tue Aug 11, 11:50 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte said he does not expect to catch as many passes this season as he did in 2014.

Footballguys view: Forte is correct, and fantasy owners need to adjust their projections. There's a chance Forte catches half as many passes as he did last year. In 2014, Forte was targeted 130 times and caught 102 passes. This year, we think he'll snare 50-60 grabs for the Bears in the new Adam Gase offense. Forte is still a RB1 for fantasy owners, but he's one you should add at the end of the first round.

Bears | Jay Cutler remains perfect    Tue Aug 11, 08:16 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has yet to throw an interception in 7-on-7 or team drills through 11 practices. Cutler accredited offensive coordinator Adam Gase for the schemes. Cutler also laughed at a question about the significance of the feat, 'Camp's camp,' he said. 'We're not getting hit. These aren't live bullets. So we'll see what happens when we start going.'

Footballguys view: This is not a good thing. Just like Marcus Mariota in Tennessee, avoiding interceptions in PRACTICE is not what a quarterback needs to do. Practice is where mistakes don't cost a thing, and the lessons they teach can be invaluable. We'd rather see a quarterback make a few mistakes against his own team instead of wetting the bed against an opponent. We're interested to see if Cutler will actually listen and take to coaching this year, but zero picks in practice does not "wow" us.

Bears | Kevin White running Tuesday    Tue Aug 11, 11:21 AM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is running at practice Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: The rookie is getting closer to a return, but he's not there yet. It's a good sign that he's running right now, and the next step is to participate in practice then team drills then the preseason. We'll see White eased in to the lineup.

Bears | Kevin White takes part in some drills    Mon Aug 10, 07:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) was able to do some backpedaling, light jumping and agility drills at half speed during practice Monday, Aug. 10. Head coach John Fox said the team has a plan for White and that White has been able to do some exercises. There is a chance that White is not able to play in any of the preseason games, which the team is prepared for.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to stay dialed in here. White is talented and has big-play ability, but this injury is going to slow his development. Add in the fact that John Fox seems reluctant to play rookies at times (see Cody Latimer last year), and White may have a disappointing start to his first season in the pros. If healthy, White has the talent to be a dangerous weapon in the league. He's so good that Fox may have no choice but to feature him often opposite Alshon Jeffery.

Bears | Kevin White to run Monday    Mon Aug 10, 04:53 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) was scheduled to start running Monday, Aug. 10, and will not need surgery on his shins, according to general manager Ryan Pace. Pace said White has done very well with the mental aspect of things but needs to be on the field to work on his timing with the quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: We appreciate White's skill set as a big-play receiver, but he needs to get healthy and catch up with his teammates. White's ADP has fallen in recent weeks as he continues to miss time. Currently, he's going off the board at WR39 (9.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Quiet scrimmage for Jay Cutler    Sun Aug 9, 08:49 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed just one of his five pass attempts during a scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: We'll be noting what these players do during scrimmage, but there's no need to sound an alarm here. If Cutler listens to new OC Adam Gase, then he should be able to post solid numbers in 2015. For fantasy purposes, we see Cutler as a low-end QB2.

Bears | OC talks Eddie Royal    Sat Aug 8, 01:30 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal could have a Wes Welker kind of impact on the Bears' offense this season, according to offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase said Royal has a special explosiveness that a lot of inside receivers don't have, making him a threat at all three levels of an opposing defense.

Footballguys view: To have a Welker-esque fantasy impact, Royal would need to be an offense with a better QB. He does have a great history with Jay Cutler. He does offer WR3/Flex upside in PPR leagues, but that's still a relatively low ceiling and only worth a pick in the 10th or later. Royal is worth more consideration in deeper leagues with thinner waiver wires to cover byes and injuries.

Bears | Eddie Royal showing athleticism    Thu Aug 6, 09:37 PM

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal made several impressive plays Thursday, Aug. 6, on passes that weren't on target. In seven-on-seven drills, Royal slide to catch a couple of passes, and he also caught a long touchdown pass from QB Jay Cutler in the back corner of the end zone, while in tight coverage.

Footballguys view: Royal is lining up as the WR2 in practice opposite Alshon Jeffery. He's a seasoned veteran who knows where to be in this offense. He makes for a great late-round pick in your fantasy draft.

Bears | Chicago not worried about Kevin White    Thu Aug 6, 03:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is expected to start jogging Monday, Aug. 10, and the team is not worried about his status for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: The team may not be worried, but fantasy owners need to be a little worried. White is going to be behind when he eventually does get on the field and is able to practice with his team.

Bears | Kevin White could open on PUP    Thu Aug 6, 12:29 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) hasn't done any running on hard ground, and there's a real chance he opens the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: White is redraft kryptonite right now. Eddie Royal and Martellus Bennett will likely be the #2 and #3 targets outside of Alshon Jeffery in the WR/TE group, and Matt Forte will also get a big number of targets. He might be marginalized for this year because of his slow start. Odell Beckham reminds us that players with prodigious talent can overcome these kinds of circumstances, but Devante Parker is the better late-round delayed gratification rookie to target, especially with Chicago HC John Fox's well-documented penchant for bringing rookies along slowly.

Bears | Kevin White won't be behind teammates    Wed Aug 5, 09:17 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shins) remained sidelined at training camp Wednesday, Aug. 5, as he deals with shin splints. Offensive coordinator Adam Gase said White's character won't allow him to fall too far behind his teammates.

Footballguys view: That's nice in theory, but the reality is that White will be behind his teammates. Mental reps from the sidelines are one thing, but getting out there and performing is another. We love White's upside, but this shin injury isn't a great way to start off his pro career. Plus, John Fox doesn't seem to use rookies enough (see Cody Latimer last year). Perhaps White will be so good that Fox has no choice but to feature the rookie opposite Alshon Jeffery.

Bears | Jay Cutler impressing Adam Gase    Wed Aug 5, 07:09 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is 'further ahead than everybody else' in terms of understanding the new offensive scheme in training camp, according to offensive coordinator Adam Gase. 'Any quarterback I think is going to be happy with [Gase],' Cutler said. 'He does a really good job putting you in the right position, keeping the defense off balance, mixing up the play calls and that makes it easier on the quarterback.' The Bears want to take pressure off Cutler by balancing out the offense with the running game; Chicago ran the ball less than 40% in 2014. Gase also stressed the importance of moving Cutler outside the pocket, a place where he has excelled in his career.

Footballguys view: He hasn't thrown any picks in practice! Insert the sarcasm font here. Cutler has to be in a make-or-break season this year. Gase can build a quality offense, but can he get the best out of Cutler? Will the veteran quarterback actually listen and make better decisions with the football? He's got too many question marks for us to recommend adding him to your fantasy lineup.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is suffering from shin splints, according to head coach John Fox. White is being considered day-to-day.

Footballguys view: According to reports, the rookie wants badly to get out on the field and play but the team is wisely being cautious with their 2015 first-round pick. If healthy, White should be able to catch up in the preseason. At this time, Eddie Royal should start opposite Alshon Jeffery until White is ready.

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 5, after missing a couple of days with an issue with his AC joint in his right shoulder.

Footballguys view: The Bears star receiver should be able to pay off in a big way for fantasy owners this year. He's going to be playing the Demaryius Thomas role in Adam Gase's offense, and Jeffery should finish the year as a top-10 fantasy wide receiver.

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list and there is no timetable for his return, according to head coach John Fox. Fox said he considers White day-to-day at this time.

Footballguys view: The team is going to take it easy with their potential star rookie. On the PUP list during camp, the Bears can activate him at any time. If healthy, White could win the WR2 job opposite Alshon Jeffery this year. Right now, Eddie Royal is in that spot.

Bears | Kevin White making progress    Sat Aug 1, 06:06 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) has been doing some cardio work, according to head coach John Fox Saturday, Aug. 1, and White is making progress.

Footballguys view: White should end up as one of the best receivers in this draft class. He's fast, quick and can toy with defenders in the open field. This shin problem has slowed him down in camp, and this has slowed his development. He could end up as the WR2 opposite Alshon Jeffery in Chicago. Eddie Royal is best suited to play as their slot receiver.
