Bears | Jay Feely says Jay Cutler is not a leader    Thu Jan 29, 09:45 AM

Chicago Bears PK Jay Feely said QB Jay Cutler isn't a leader off of the field. 'That's not who he is. You're going to have a vacuum there,' Feely said on Mad Dog Sports Radio. 'So you have to know that as a general manager or a head coach, 'Hey, we're not going to have that leadership from this position, so we've really got to have other guys that are going to step up and are going to be our verbal leaders.''

Bears | John Chiles signs Futures deal    Tue Jan 27, 05:29 PM

Free-agent WR John Chiles (CFL) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Footballguys view: The former Texas Longhorn was undrafted in 2011, but he did spend some time with the Saints and the Rams before heading up north. In the CFL, Chiles played for the Toronto Argonauts. He's a good receiver on deep routes, can track the ball well over his shoulder and has agility in the open field. Chiles' game is built on his run-after-the-catch ability and vertical speed.

Bears | Jay Rodgers hired    Mon Jan 26, 02:57 AM

Jay Rodgers was hired by the Chicago Bears as the team's defensive line coach. His brother, Jeff Rodgers, was just hired by the Bears as special teams coordinator.

Bears | Jay Cutler happy with coaching addition    Sun Jan 25, 09:06 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler reportedly once touted new quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains to be the quarterbacks coach in 2012. The two had a 'strong, personal relationship.'

Footballguys view: The addition of Loggains suggests the Bears are giving Cutler all that he needs to succeed in 2015. It might be a last hurrah for the talented but underachieving quarterback. If Cutler struggles this season under new head coach John Fox, we could see the Bears going in a different direction at QB for 2016. Currently, there's over $19 million in dead money on Cutler's contract. However, after this year that number falls to just $3 million. It's shaping up to be a make-or-break year for Cutler.

Bears | Dowell Loggains hired    Fri Jan 23, 09:04 PM

Former Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains has been hired by the Chicago Bears to fill the same position Friday, Jan. 23.

Footballguys view: Loggains gets a chance to work with Jay Cutler. Even though Cutler is wild mechanically, he'll be a breath of fresh air compared to Johnny Manziel. The biggest challenge for the Bears is getting quality play out of Cutler. We'll see if Loggains can help the veteran quarterback.

Former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase will be hired by the Chicago Bears as their new offensive coordinator, according to a source. Gase will receive an undisclosed three-year deal.

Footballguys view: Gase follows John Fox to Chicago here. He should be able to craft an explosive offense for quarterback Jay Cutler. Whether or not Cutler runs that system to the letter remains to be seen, but we have our doubts.

Former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase is expected to interview for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator opening Wednesday, Jan. 21, a source said Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Footballguys view: After missing out on the Ravens OC job that Marc Trestman snared, Gase needs to do something. He could team back up with head coach John Fox, and Gase could help craft an offense to get the most out of quarterback Jay Cutler.

Bears | Vic Fangio to be defensive coordinator    Tue Jan 20, 11:07 AM

Updating a previous report, free-agent defensive coordinator Vic Fangio (49ers) will be the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator. Fangio was previously the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.

Footballguys view: The Bears need a ton of work, but adding Fangio will help immensely. Coupled with a defensive-minded head coach like John Fox, Fangio could eventually build a top-5 defense in Chicago. The Bears have ranked 30th in defense each of the last two seasons.

Bears | Chicago hires John Fox as head coach    Fri Jan 16, 02:17 PM

The Chicago Bears have hired former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox as their new head coach, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fox took the Broncos to the playoffs four years in a row as the AFC West division winner. He's a successful coach who is known as being player friendly. Fox can build a strong defense, but it will take a bit of time in Chicago. What we don't know is how he'll mesh with quarterback Jay Cutler.

Bears | Kyle Shanahan could be option for OC    Wed Jan 14, 11:58 AM

Free-agent OC Kyle Shanahan (Browns) could be an option for the team's offensive coordinator if the team hires John Fox (Broncos) as the next head coach.

Footballguys view: Shanahan has been a creative offensive coordinator who has maximized his running game and QB abilities in his last two stops in Cleveland and Washington, and his dad has lots of experience with Jay Cutler. This would be a plus for Cutler, Matt Forte and the rest of the Bears offense's fantasy prospects.

Bears | John Fox to interview Wednesday    Wed Jan 14, 11:24 AM

Updating a previous report, free-agent head coach John Fox (Broncos) will interview with the team Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Fox was linked to the Bears from the moment that it was announced that he was parting ways with the Broncos. His philosophy seems to mesh with the organization, and he should be considered one of the favorites for the opening.

Bears | Jay Cutler's fate uncertain    Mon Dec 29, 05:12 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler's fate will be determined by the team's next general manager and head coach, according to team president Ted Phillips.

Footballguys view: The Bears don't want to hire another coach for Cutler to destroy. He's known as a coach-killer for a reason, and if he couldn't work with Marc Trestman he might not be able to work with anyone.

Bears | Aaron Kromer fired    Mon Dec 29, 12:40 PM

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer was fired Monday, Dec. 29, according to a source.

Footballguys view: You had a feeling Kromer would be on his way out after it was revealed he was saying bad things about Jay Cutler to the media. A tearful apology after that was revealed was nice, but it wasn't enough to save his job.

Bears | Marc Trestman fired    Mon Dec 29, 10:02 AM

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman was fired Monday, Dec. 29.

Footballguys view: We're saddened by this news. Trestman has a bright mind for offensive football, but he was saddled with Jay Cutler. Now, Trestman will have to find work elsewhere. Perhaps he could join Seattle's staff as he and Pete Carroll both came up under the legendary Bill Walsh.

Bears | Phil Emery fired    Mon Dec 29, 09:38 AM

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery was fired Monday, Dec. 29.

Footballguys view: Emery had to go. He made several poor decisions in personnel, none worse than choosing to give Jay Cutler a $126 million contract in 2014. The Bears needed a total shakeup in the front office and coaching staff.

Bears | Matt Forte breaks NFL record    Sun Dec 28, 03:54 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte caught his 102nd pass in 2014, passing former NFL FB Larry Centers for the most receptions in a season by a running back.

Footballguys view: Forte was worth every cent as a top four pick this year despite being in an offense that was having quarterback problems on a team going south this year. He'll be an elite pick again in 2015.

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is expected to be the starting quarterback in Week 17 with QB David Fales being the No. 2 quarterback.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen will not play in Week 17    Mon Dec 22, 02:37 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 16 and has been ruled out for Week 17.

Bears | Jay Cutler expected to remain with team    Sun Dec 21, 12:56 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is expected to remain with the team, because his contract and recent performance may make it tough the team to move him. Cutler's 2015 salary of $16 million is fully guaranteed and $10 million of his $16 million salary in 2016 will become guaranteed on March 13. It is not believed Cutler would alter his contract in order to facilitate a trade, according to sources.

The Chicago Bears have declared FS Chris Conte, QB David Fales, OG Kyle Long, PK Robbie Gould, CB Terrance Mitchell, DL Trevor Scott, DL Will Sutton inactive for Week 16.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery doesn't practice    Thu Dec 18, 04:41 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (non-injury related) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Footballguys view: Jeffery should play, as injury doesn't seem to be a factor here. Overall his value has taken a hit, since the offense is a mess and Jimmy Clausen is the starting quarterback now. As that is the case, he's no more than a low-end WR2 with a ton of risk this weekend.

Bears | Jay Cutler to start next week?    Thu Dec 18, 04:02 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler was benched just for this week against the Detroit Lions, according to head coach Marc Trestman. Cutler will be active and serve as the backup in Week 16. 'We're not playing well enough at the quarterback position on a consistent basis,' Trestman said.

Footballguys view: Benched "for just this week" sounds a lot like "we'd like to move on now please" as there is no purpose we can see for benching Cutler unless the Bears want off the roller coaster. Jimmy Clausen gets the start but he shouldn't be in your lineups as he is barely a QB3.
