Bears | Kevin White likely safe    Mon Jul 16, 12:28 PM

Bears | Roquan Smith not reporting    Mon Jul 16, 08:44 AM

Chicago Bears LB Roquan Smith won't report to camp Monday, July 16, as he is still without a contract.

Footballguys view: Rookies reported on Monday and Smith, the team's first-round pick in 2018, wasn't there. Veterans report on July 19th, so the Bears have a few days to finally get something done with their talented rookie linebacker.

Bears | Anthony Miller fits the offense    Thu Jul 12, 10:20 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller's ability to run routes that 'set the angle for the quarterback' made him stand out during the draft process, according to head coach Matt Nagy. 'Any time you can see a route that relates to what you do as an offense, you kind of tag that,' Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Miller is going to be competing for time as the #2 outside receiver and slot receiver, but he should be behind free agent additions Allen Robinson and Trey Burton in the target pecking order and will be fighting Taylor Gabriel and Kevin White for playing time. He has the versatility and all-around game to rise up the depth chart quickly and will be an early season waiver wire watch list candidate.

Bears | 'Training wheels off' for Mitchell Trubisky    Thu Jul 12, 07:45 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has had 'the training wheels taken off,' according to OG Kyle Long, who added that Trubisky is 'going to be able to do some things creatively and get to showcase his skills' as a result.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is poised to take a step forward this season, but the question is how big a step forward? He's got some new pieces to work with on offense, and that's definitely an improvement over the lack of targets last season. But sophomore slumps are a real thing, we're still not sure how good his weapons are, and he is definitely a quarterback with a lot to learn. He's tracking as the 24th quarterback coming off the board in early drafts, and right now that seems about right.

Bears | Bryce Callahan struggles with injures    Thu Jul 12, 03:10 PM

Bears | Chicago to keep backfield door 'spinning'    Tue Jul 10, 01:51 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard is expected to be the team's feature back per comments made by head coach Matt Nagy this spring, but Nagy also made it clear he plans to 'keep the door spinning' in the rotation, according to Dan Wiederer of The Chicago Tribune.

Footballguys view: With Tarik Cohen undersized at 5-6, Howard will keep the main role, but could lose third down touches to Cohen, who is a little more dynamic in that spot. Howard has back to back 1,000 plus yard seasons and saw his touchdown total jump from 6 to 9 last season, and is a solid running back who can handle a large workload. He is reliable fantasy starter whose ADP is coming in at 13th back selected and 21st player overall in drafts.

Bears | Tarik Cohen poised for big things in 2018?    Tue Jul 10, 01:43 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen 'not only has a skill set that will stimulate head coach Matt Nagy's creativity,' but he also 'has shown he has the mental capacity to handle a wide array of roles and responsibilities,' according to Dan Wiederer of The Chicago Tribune.

Footballguys view: Cohen was hit and miss his rookie year, and while he has the skill set, he lacks the size to be an every down back. He was a workhorse at North Carolina A&T but the NFL is a long way away from the Aggies program. He did see a lot of the backfield's targets, though, and that could make him an occasional flex play this year. His current ADP of 36 running back off the board is a solid spot to pick him up in that capacity.

Bears | Trey Burton the No. 2 option?    Sun Jul 8, 10:39 PM

Bears | Allen Robinson should be ready for camp    Sat Jul 7, 04:31 PM

The Chicago Bears expect WR Allen Robinson (knee) to be a full participant once training camp begins.

Footballguys view: The Bears needed a big-time receiver for second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky, but does Robinson fit the bill? The former Jaguar is coming off knee surgery, and has not been tested in a game since it healed. If back to full health and if he hasn't lost a step, he is a deep ball threat and can out-jump a lot of defenders for the ball. We just don't if he's lost a step. Also, this is likely to be an offense with a healthy dose of run, so that will hamper his production. Right now he is the twentieth receiver coming off the board in drafts.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky has more command of team    Thu Jul 5, 08:21 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has more command of the team going into his second year, according to RB Jordan Howard. 'He asserted himself a lot last year, but I definitely feel like a lot more people are listening to him,' Howard said. 'He has a lot greater command of the locker room and stuff because he's the quarterback for sure now.'

Footballguys view: If the Bears are going to take a step forward, they'll need Trubisky to take command. That said, the lack of weapons to throw to, the shaky defense and Trubisky's own likely learning curve make him no more than what his ADP is sitting at right now, which is the 25th quarterback off the board in fantasy drafts.

Bears | Trey Burton wants to be a leader    Tue Jul 3, 04:31 AM

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton sees himself as someone who can be a leader in his first year with the organization. 'I take a ton of pride in it,' Burton said. 'I'm not much of a vocal guy. I'm more of a one-on-one intimate type of communicator. I was a quarterback in high school. I had a great quarterbacks coach who taught me how to be a leader and how all the eyes are on you. Ever since then, I kind of ran with it.'

Footballguys view: Burton is also very familiar with the offense coming from the Reid/Pederson tree in Philadelphia. The Bears have a young offense and need someone to be a veteran presence. Burton is in the low TE1 mix in early drafts.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky talks new offense    Mon Jul 2, 01:33 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said the team plans to spread the field and use all of their offensive weapons under head coach Matt Nagy.

Footballguys view: while we like to hear they are using all their weapons, there's not exactly an overabundance of them. That and his inexperience make Trubisky no more than a QB3 as we head into training camp.

Bears | Tarik Cohen moving around    Wed Jun 27, 04:33 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen said he lined up at multiple positions during offseason workouts in head coach Matt Nagy's offensive scheme.

Footballguys view: It's a good move for the Bears new head coach. Nagy was incredibly creative with weapons like WR Tyreek Hill in Kansas City, and we can't wait to see what he can do with a player that has Cohen's skill set. Cohen is not as fast as Hill, but he's lightning quick and can create his own space as a runner or after the catch. He is going off the board at RB31 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, showing what kind of flex appeal he's got for fantasy owners in 2018.

Bears | Kevin White a pleasant surprise during spring    Fri Jun 15, 12:42 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White is to stay healthy throughout the off-season program and 'looked better than expected,' according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.

Footballguys view: White's game has been set back by injury in the pros. A first-round pick in 2015, White has appeared in only five games with the Bears. If they get anything from him in 2018 that's a bonus. White is competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and rookie Anthony Miller.

Bears | Leonard Floyd not a fan of a brace    Fri Jun 8, 09:09 AM

Chicago Bears LB Leonard Floyd (knee) has worn a knee brace during organized team activities, but he felt it was restrictive.

Footballguys view: When healthy, Floyd can get after the quarterback. We'll see how he progresses during training camp and the preseason. He hopes to shed the brace before the season starts.

Bears | Kevin White eager to make an impact    Thu Jun 7, 10:01 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has been practicing with 'a lot of passion' during OTAs, according to QB Mitchell Trubisky, and Trubisky said the two have been communicating on an off the field.

Footballguys view: It's a make-or-break year for White. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, White's career has been set back by injuries and he's only played five games in three seasons. With Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Anthony Miller ahead of him on the depth chart, White is competing to be the fourth spot.

Bears | Tarik Cohen a jack of all trades    Thu Jun 7, 12:13 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen's versatility gives the Bears a dynamic playmaker on offense. He will be used as a running back, wide receiver and even a pass-blocker. Head coach Matt Nagy said Cohen still has a lot to learn, but he has a lot to learn because Chicago plans on using him in a variety of ways. In addition to his running back duties, Cohen said he has lined up on the outside and in the slot as a receiver and has practiced on special teams. 'I feel like this is the offense for me.'

Footballguys view: He's going to have to go a long way to top what we expect from Jordan Howard, though he did take a lot of Howard's receptions last season. That said, Cohen's overall production was sporadic. His versatility at least gives him an interesting role as a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Bears | Roquan Smith likely will start    Mon Jun 4, 12:47 PM

Chicago Bears LB Roquan Smith has received some snaps with the starting defense during organized team activities and likely will be one of the starting linebackers when the regular season begins.

Footballguys view: Smith was one of the more intimidating first-round prospects in the 2018 NFL draft. He can roam the field as an enforcer against the run, plus he's got the nose for the ball that helps him in coverage. It won't take long for Smith to be a starter.

Bears | Zach Miller signs split deal    Mon Jun 4, 08:41 AM

Free-agent TE Zach Miller (Bears) re-signed with the Chicago Bears on a one-year, split contract, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Miller (knee) is unlikely to be able to play again after a knee injury nearly led to amputation. He'll receive $458,000 if he doesn't play and $790,000 if he does. He's undergone nine surgeries to repair his knee, and we'd be shocked if he ever played again. A classy move by the Bears here as Miller doesn't want to yet be done playing the game.

Bears | Kevin White may be in roster jeopardy    Sat Jun 2, 07:35 AM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White is not a lock for the 53-man roster, even though he was a second-round draft pick in 2015. Injuries have limited his effectiveness.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The no.7 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft has only appeared in five games as a pro. He had blazing speed in college at West Virginia but injuries may have robbed him of his best asset. Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and rookie Anthony Miller should be the top three WRs on the depth chart.

Bears | 'Game specific' plan for Jordan Howard    Thu May 31, 08:40 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard said that head coach Matt Nagy already deemed him 'the main guy,' but while he's proven he can be a traditional bell-cow running back, Nagy also mentioned that 'in this offense, it's more game specific as to whether or not you need that.'

Footballguys view: Howard has been working diligently this offseason to be a better receiver. Certainly Nagy's offense is going to be more dynamic this season, so Howard could post more than the 23 receptions he had in 2017. Howard has a current ADP of RB15 (3.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Allen Robinson practices Wednesday    Wed May 30, 02:36 PM

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee) practiced Wednesday, May 30, for the first time since signing with Bears.

Footballguys view: The Bears should take it slow and steady with Robinson. Things sound like they're on track for the veteran receiver as he prepares for the 2018 season with his new team. Robinson is still working his way towards a full recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 1 last year.

Bears | Dion Sims still valued    Mon May 28, 09:59 AM

Chicago Bears TE Dion Sims is still a valuable piece to the puzzle, according to head coach Matt Nagy. 'The nice thing with Dion is that he's a guy that's proven to be a solid blocker,' Nagy said. 'He can be in there and be your Y-tight end, but yet he still has really good hands. He can make plays on intermediate routes.'

Footballguys view: Sims is kind of the forgotten man at the TE position for the Bears. Second-year pro Adam Shaheen is an exciting dynasty prospect and the Bears added Trey Burton in free agency this offseason. Burton and Shaheen will compete to be the primary pass-catching tight end. Sims is a 'Y' meaning that his game is more all-purpose than your 'F' (receiving) tight ends.

Bears | Cody Whitehair to remain at center    Sun May 27, 10:05 AM

Chicago Bears C Cody Whitehair is expected to remain the team's starting center for now, with the team deciding to try C James Daniels out at left guard. However, Daniels has continued to do some snapping at practice every day and the two players could eventually swap positions.

Bears | Tarik Cohen must improve as blocker    Sat May 26, 12:22 AM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen could 'no doubt' serve as the third-down back if he can prove to be a capable blocker, according to running backs coach Charles London.

Footballguys view: Cohen is a small back, but he's got a low center of gravity and could slow down rushers with proper pass-blocking technique. Jordan Howard should be the primary ball carrier for the Bears, and even though he's worked hard on his receiving ability this offseason we expect Cohen to be the primary pass-catching back.

Bears | Jordan Howard to be factor in passing game?    Fri May 25, 01:21 PM

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard is working on some issues to help him become a better receiver out of the backfield, according to new running backs coach Charles London, who mentioned hand placement, focus and concentration and hand-eye coordination as some of the areas he is hoping to see improvement.

Footballguys view: This is something that has been reported more than once this offseason. Howard is putting in the work, and he's doing that to be more involved in Matt Nagy's offense. He's good for around 25 catches per year, and even with his extra work to be a better receiver those numbers might not move that much for Howard in 2018. The Bears can always use Tarik Cohen as a dynamic receiver out of the backfield.

Bears | Kevin White not setting goals    Thu May 24, 10:47 PM

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White said he isn't worried about his fifth-year option being declined and believes 'anything' is possible for him this season.

Footballguys view: White's pro career has been marred by injury in a big way. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, White has only appeared in five games as a pro. His trademark speed from college may be a thing of the past after multiple injuries. White is going to face more and better competition this year after the Bears made moves in the draft and free agency to upgrade the position.

Bears | Anthony Miller penciled in at the slot    Wed May 23, 11:18 AM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller is earmarked to be the slot receiver in the offense.

Footballguys view: Miller was a featured player in the Memphis offense over the last two years, and he's got plenty of experience working outside or in the slot. The rookie is a crafty route runner with the body control to adjust to poorly thrown passes. He's not the biggest, fastest or strongest receiver but Miller is savvy and could become a favorite target for QB Mitchell Trubisky.

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee), LB Leonard Floyd (knee) and OG Kyle Long (elbow, neck, shoulder) could all start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Bears | Coach excited about Tarik Cohen    Wed May 16, 11:33 PM

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is a player that head coach Matt Nagy is excited to work with this upcoming season. 'You see how he is in the meeting rooms -- he listens to the play and when he comes out here how serious he is and he knows how to have fun. He's a player that for me, you get giddy about,' Nagy said.

Bears | Allen Robinson where he needs to be    Wed May 16, 03:26 PM

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee) is ahead of the game and looking good as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in Week 1 last year.

Footballguys view: Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Bears this offseason to be the lead receiver. The Bears are hoping he can regain his form from 2015 when he had 1,400 yards receiving with the Jaguars. Head coach Matt Nagy said the Bears feel good about Robinson's prognosis and that he won't need to be rushed back.

Bears | Anthony Miller a complete receiver?    Sun May 13, 11:21 PM

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller said he isn't afraid of the 'physical element' of the game and is a willing blocker in the running game.

Footballguys view: Miller had 238 career catches at Memphis and scored 37 touchdowns (32 over the last two years). He's got tremendous work ethic and will be a team-first guy who does whatever it takes to contribute. We'll see if he can make progress as a blocker, but there's no doubt he won't shy away from the work he needs to do in that area.

Bears | Aaron Murray trying out    Sat May 12, 01:19 PM

Free-agent QB Aaron Murray (Rams) is participating in the Chicago Bears' rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.
