Eagles | May go after Jason Worilds    Thu Mar 5, 02:23 AM

Free-agent OLB Jason Worilds (Steelers) may draw heavy interest from the Philadelphia Eagles if he hits free agency.

Footballguys view: The Steelers chose not to use the transition tag on Worilds as they did in 2014, so now he's going to be one of the most sought after pass-rushers on the open market. Worilds has had 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons, the most by any Steelers player during that time. The Eagles have freed up plenty of cap space with several moves this week, so they'll be in position to add key pieces to the defensive side of the ball.

Eagles | Philly positioning for Marcus Mariota?    Wed Mar 4, 11:42 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles might be in position to package several draft picks to move up and draft a franchise-caliber signal caller such as University of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, especially after the team cleared plenty of cap room following the trade of RB LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: The Eagles need to find a quarterback who can run the Chip Kelly offense. Mariota played for Kelly at Oregon, and he would be a great fit. He should be a top-10 pick in the 2015 NFL draft. The Eagles are sitting at the 20th pick overall, and they would need to move up at least 10-15 spots to insure they get him.

Eagles | Philly interested in Mark Ingram?    Wed Mar 4, 07:49 PM

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram has been rumored to be of interest to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Ingram is a one-cut runner with power and determination between the tackles. He would be a good fit for the Eagles' inside/outside zone-read option offense.

Eagles | C.J. Spiller may be on Philly's radar    Wed Mar 4, 07:43 PM

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB C.J. Spiller may be on the Philadelphia Eagles' radar in free agency, according to source. However, Spiller won't be Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's highest priority.

Footballguys view: Kelly's system can make a running back look really good. A player like Spiller could thrive in the inside/outside zone-read option. Price is going to be an issue, as the Eagles aren't going to overpay for a running back they could get much cheaper in free agency or the draft.

Eagles | Trent Cole officially released    Wed Mar 4, 04:07 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Trent Cole was officially cut Wednesday, March 4.

Footballguys view: Cole has been a long-time starter for the Eagles, but now he gets a few days jumpstart on free agency. He can play in a 4-3 or a 3-4, and that versatility should prompt a lot of interest on the open market. The Eagles are making a ton of moves to free up salary cap space so they can go get a secondary.

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin deal not close with Eagles    Wed Mar 4, 02:25 PM

Impending free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin is not close to a contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: We'll see Maclin hit the open market. Teams like the Jaguars or the Chiefs could be interested in the veteran receiver.

Eagles | DeMeco Ryans out in Philly?    Wed Mar 4, 12:55 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB DeMeco Ryans (Achilles'), who tore his Achilles' halfway through the 2014 season, probably won't be back with the team after they acquired LB Kiko Alonso from the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, March 3.

Footballguys view: The Eagles are undergoing massive changes...and freeing up a bunch of salary-cap space. Chip Kelly has full command over personnel moves, and he's not messing around.

Eagles | Kiko Alonso's rehab going well    Tue Mar 3, 08:02 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Kiko Alonso's (knee) rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament is going very well, and he has increased his activities and has begun running, according to a source. 'I anticipate being 100% before camp. By camp, I definitely feel I'll be 100%,' Alonso said.

Footballguys view: Alonso was lost for the season early last July. The Eagles get a playmaker who can fly around the field on defense when healthy.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy to be traded     Tue Mar 3, 06:39 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy will reportedly be traded for Buffalo Bills LB Kiko Alonso.

Footballguys view: Well that escalated quickly. The Bills get a superstar running back in McCoy, and the Eagles get a quality linebacker in Alonso. McCoy will be the lead back in Rex Ryan's run-heavy offense, and his fantasy star should shine brightly. Alonso played for Chip Kelly in college at Oregon, and he'll be one of their top playmakers on defense.

Eagles | Trent Cole to be released    Tue Mar 3, 05:31 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles LB Trent Cole will be released after both sides could not agree on a new contract, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With a cap number of $11.6 million, it's no surprise the Eagles have let Cole go. He's compiled 14.5 sacks over the last two years, and the aging veteran could draw some interest on the open market.

Eagles | An option for Rahim Moore?    Tue Mar 3, 01:27 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent FS Rahim Moore could have a suitor in the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

Footballguys view: Moore is arguably the second-best free safety on the open market behind Devin McCourty (Patriots). The Eagles' new secondary coach, Cory Undlin, held the same position with the Broncos the last two years.

Eagles | Trent Cole not expected to take paycut    Tue Mar 3, 01:07 PM

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin not tagged    Mon Mar 2, 05:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin did not receive the franchise tag before the deadline Monday, March 2.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the two sides can work something out, but time is running out. Maclin and the Eagles have been working on a long-term deal and have until Tuesday, March 10, to get one done or else Maclin will become a free agent. If he's on the open market, expect the Kansas City Chiefs to make a strong run after him. Maclin played under Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia, and the Chiefs need a huge upgrade at the WR position.

Eagles | Brad Jones signs    Mon Mar 2, 03:44 PM

Free-agent LB Brad Jones (Packers) signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 2. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Jones will be able to immediately contribute on special teams. However, with the Eagles LB corps in upheaval, Jones could be in the mix for more playing time on defense than some think.

Eagles | PHI faces tag decision on Jeremy Maclin    Mon Mar 2, 07:11 AM

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Eagles) and the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to work out a new contract, but the team has until 4 p.m. Monday, March 2, to put the franchise tag on Maclin.

Footballguys view: The two sides have been working diligently, but there is not an agreement yet. The team may not want to franchise Maclin as that would guarantee him a one-year deal worth around $12.8 million in 2015. If he hits the open market, we'd expect a team like the Kansas City Chiefs to be interested.

Eagles | Eagles eyeing Marcus Mariota?    Fri Feb 27, 11:52 PM

University of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is a player the Philadelphia Eagles are willing to try to move up for in the 2015 NFL Draft, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly needs a quarterback who can run his offense to the letter. Mariota played in the offense at Oregon, and he would be the best fit possible. He might be a top-6 pick in the 2015 NFL draft, so the Eagles would have to move up quite a bit to secure his services. The Eagles currently own the 20th-overall pick in the draft.

Eagles | James Casey cut    Thu Feb 19, 02:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE James Casey has been released.

Eagles | Brandon Graham unlikely to receive franchise tag    Tue Feb 17, 01:06 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent LB Brandon Graham is unlikely to receive the franchise tag because of the money it would cost the team.

Footballguys view: CSN Philly has reported that Graham wants a deal around $30 million with $20 million guaranteed. He'll be a hot player on the open market as one of the best 3-4 outside linebackers.

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin unlikely for tag    Tue Feb 17, 01:03 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin is unlikely to receive the franchise tag because of the kind of financial commitment it would entail. It's still likely that the Eagles will work out a long-term deal with him.

Footballguys view: The two sides are working on a deal right now. We should see a new contract for Maclin before free agency starts on March 10th.

Eagles | Philly rejected trade for Josh Gordon    Mon Feb 16, 06:27 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was offered to the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the 2013 season, but the Eagles did not want to trade QB Nick Foles for Gordon, according to a source. The Eagles were concerned about Gordon's two-game suspension, while the Browns wanted Foles to be their starting quarterback.

Footballguys view: The Eagles dodge a bullet here. They still have Foles and Gordon is now facing a year-long suspension. Foles is an odd fit for the Chip Kelly system, but at least he'll be out there competing to play in 2015. The Browns may not release Gordon, but we'd be shocked if he gets to play this season.

Eagles | Eagles eyeing Jake Locker?    Fri Feb 6, 08:47 PM

Tennessee Titans impending free-agent QB Jake Locker could draw interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to an NFL agent.

Footballguys view: Locker would make sense for the Chip Kelly offense. He's athletic enough to be a threat to run everytime he touches the ball. That is the key to running the inside/outside zone-read offense. Locker also has a strong arm, but his accuracy problems could be helped by the wide-open nature of this system. Often, QBs in this system are throwing to predetermined spots so decisions and throws are easier. The biggest problem with Locker? Staying healthy. In four seasons, he's never played more than 11 games in one year.

Eagles | Barkley will be fighting for his roster spot    Wed Feb 4, 07:27 PM

Sheil Kapadia, from PhillyMag.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Matt Barkley will be fighting for his roster spot in 2015. The report says the Eagles coaching staff has shown no confidence in Barkley up to this point.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Barkley has done little to impress after the Eagles picked him in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft. He's always been an odd fit for the Chip Kelly system, and we could see him getting cut if he doesn't start playing better.

Eagles | Negotiating with Jeremy Maclin    Sat Jan 31, 03:47 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin confirmed negotiations between his representation and the Eagles are ongoing.

Footballguys view: If the Eagles need more time to get a long-term deal done with Maclin, they could always use the franchise tag on him. That would give him a one-year guarantee of around $12.7 million, but most importantly it would give the Eagles until July 15th to work out a new deal. The veteran receiver is likely seeking a five-year deal worth over $10 million per year.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy open to restructure    Fri Jan 30, 02:22 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy has said he would restructure his contract to lower the $11.95 million cap hit for 2015, but he will not take a pay cut.

Footballguys view: McCoy still has $4.4 million in dead money left on his deal. While he says he won't take a pay cut, we're not so sure. The Eagles could move some of the money around to give themselves more room underneath the salary cap this year. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Nick Foles 'I plan on being in Philly'    Thu Jan 29, 08:17 PM

According to Jeff McLane, from Philly.com, Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is planning on being with the Eagles in 2015. Foles, who was on Radio Row at the Super Bowl, said that he was tuning out the noise. Asked if he thought he would be back as the starter in 2015, he said, "I plan on being back and being in Philly."

Footballguys view: There are rumors circulating that Foles could be on the trade block, and some think the Rams could be interested. Foles is not a natural fit for the Chip Kelly system, and we could see the Eagles try to move up in the draft for QB Marcus Mariota (Oregon). He's planning on being in Philly, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Foles dealt before the season starts.

Eagles | Ed Marynowitz promoted    Thu Jan 29, 10:20 AM

Philadelphia Eagles assistant director of player personnel Ed Marynowitz was promoted to vice president of player personnel Thursday, Jan. 29.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly is overseeing all personnel decisions this year. Marynowitz will work under him, and they'll work diligently to find the right players to fit Kelly's system. Former General Manager Howie Roseman now has a role with different responsibilities.

Eagles | Zach Ertz to play more in 2015?    Mon Jan 26, 09:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz ranked ninth among tight ends in 2014 with 293 receiving yards out of the slot, but PhillyMag.com's Sheil Kapadia believes Ertz could see more time in the slot next year if WR Jordan Matthews spends more time outside.

Footballguys view: We'd like to see more from Ertz going forward. He was targeted 89 times in 2014 as the Eagles struggled to find consistent quarterback play. If they find the right guy to run the offense, Ertz could be a huge part of what they do through the air. In the Chip Kelly system, the tight end is usually the first and primary read after the inside/outside zone fake to the running back.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews' role to expand?    Mon Jan 26, 08:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews played 65% of the offensive snaps and ran 92.4% of his routes from the slot in 2014, per Pro FootballFocus.com. That was the role Eagles head coach Chip Kelly envisioned him in when the club drafted him last year. However, according to PhillyMag.com's Sheil Kapadia, the team could benefit from expanding Matthews' role by playing him outside more in two-wide receiver sets while keeping in him in the slot when the Eagles use three or more wide receivers.

Footballguys view: Matthews had a strong rookie season in 2014, finishing with 67 catches, 872 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. If the Eagles find better quarterback play in 2015, his numbers could be even better during his sophomore season.

Eagles | Teammate endorses Nick Foles    Sat Jan 17, 10:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is the leader of the team and is capable of leading the team to the playoffs, RB LeSean McCoy said Friday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: That's great and all, but the team might feel differently about Foles. He's always been an odd fit for Chip Kelly's system. We would rather see the Eagles get a more athletic quarterback to properly run that offense. There is buzz in the draft community about the Eagles having interest in UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed OG Josh Andrews, RB Kenjon Barner, OT Kevin Graf, DT Wade Keliikipi, QB G.J. Kinne, WR Will Murphy, WR Quron Pratt and S Ed Reynolds to Reserve/Futures contracts Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Footballguys view: Couple of players we'd monitor here in super super deep dynasty leagues. First, Barner at running back--the former Oregon star knows the Chip Kelly system. Barner has the speed and receiving ability to be a weapon in that offense. Second, Kinne at quarterback. Sure, he's a longshot but Kinne is a mobile passer who is an interesting fit for that system.

Eagles | Chip Kelly hopes Jeremy Maclin returns    Mon Dec 29, 04:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but head coach Chip Kelly said he hopes the Eagles will be able to re-sign Maclin.

Footballguys view: Maclin has the deep speed this offense needs to stretch the field. With his injury history, we can't imagine the market being white hot for Maclin's services.

Eagles | Nick Foles expects to be starter    Mon Dec 29, 12:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles expects to return as the starting quarterback next season. 'I expect to be back here,' Foles said. 'I expect to be the quarterback. I love my teammates and I expect to be back out there leading them and winning some games. I'm excited to come back better than I ever have been.' Head coach Chip Kelly won't commit yet to Foles as the starting quarterback heading into the offseason. Foles broke his collarbone Nov. 2 and missed the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: It's good that he expects to be the starter, but that may not be the case. Foles was always a bit of an odd fit for the Eagles offense. He's not as good of a rusher as the team would like at the position. Foles could certainly return as the team's starter in 2015, but we could also see the Eagles make a move at the position....stay tuned.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught 8 passes for 105 yards and 1 touchdown catch in Week 17 against the New York Giants. Matthews completed the year with 67 receptions, 872 yards and 8 touchdown receptions.
