Eagles | Isaac Seumalo worked out with new QB    Fri Apr 29, 10:32 PM

Philadelphia Eagles C Isaac Seumalo, the team's third round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, training in Southern California before the draft with his new teammate, QB Carson Wentz.

Footballguys view: Which is something that definitely made him attractive, though if he'll see much time behind Jason Kelce remains to be seen.

Eagles | Caron Wentz draws Brett Favre comparison    Thu Apr 28, 10:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has a lot of the same characteristics, including the aggressive style, of retired QB Brett Favre, head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Well, we won't get carried away with the comparisons right now. We will say that he has fallen into a great situation even if he needs to start right away, as Wentz will be behind a great offensive line with a coach who can work him into the right system.

Eagles | Carson Wentz to Eagles at No. 2    Thu Apr 28, 08:17 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles selected North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: As expected, and as Footballguy Andrew Garda wrote after the pick, Wentz has a more reliable coach and a better offensive line to work with. If they can have him sit behind Sam Bradford for a year, it would only be better for him as he is raw.

Eagles | Sam Bradford not shy of competition    Wed Apr 27, 12:13 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford's agent, Tom Condon, said Bradford isn't afraid of competition. He wants out because the Eagles' quarterback situation has a pre-determined outcome where the No. 2 pick starts when ready.

Footballguys view: The Broncos could play this situation to their advantage by convincing the 49ers that they are willing to trade for Bradford as an alternative to acquiring Colin Kaepernick. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Sam Bradford still Philly's starter    Mon Apr 25, 05:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is still the Eagles' starting quarterback and the Eagles still support him, general manager Howie Roseman reiterated Monday, April 25.

Footballguys view: Let's make sure that Bradford's feelings don't get hurt. He's only (sarcasm, of course) getting $22 million guaranteed from the Eagles. Getting overpaid and then having to compete for the starting job is difficult (more sarcasm). Bradford is reportedly asking for a trade since the Eagles moved up to the 2nd-overall pick...likely for QB Carson Wentz.

Eagles | Sam Bradford facing fine    Mon Apr 25, 02:29 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will be fined if he does not show up for minicamp. If he misses all of training camp, he'll surrender 25% of his signing bonus, and more if his absence extends into the regular season.

Footballguys view: Bradford has a huge contract since the Eagles overpaid to keep him for some reason earlier this offseason. He should not run from competition, especially when it seems the team is willing to let him begin the season as the starter.

Eagles | Sam Bradford request trade    Mon Apr 25, 11:19 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has informed the team Monday, April 25, he's seeking a trade and will not show up to their offseason program any longer, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Bradford was overpaid with a contract from the Eagles earlier this year that has $22 million in guaranteed money. We can't imagine any team wanting to take on such a ludicrous deal. His annual average salary is around $18 million, certainly a premium price for a QB incapable of staying healthy for long or being anything more than an average starter.

Eagles | Sam Bradford willing to stay in Philly     Mon Apr 25, 12:02 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is upset about the team's trade for the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but he is prepared to stay and prove he is a franchise-caliber quarterback, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bradford shouldn't demand a trade....he was overpaid by the Eagles earlier this year. He shouldn't run from competition--from a rookie--and instead he should stay and prove that he's the better option (for now).

Eagles | Darren Sproles to be traded?    Sun Apr 24, 01:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles could be traded this offseason, in the opinion of NJ.com's Elliot Shorr-Parks. Shorr-Parks views Sproles as a logical and likely trade candidate, with Ryan Mathews and Kenjon Barner as the two running backs who will make the final roster.

Footballguys view: You just never know with the Eagles. Sproles can still make plays as a change-of-pace back, and the Eagles may be selecting another RB at some point in the 2016 NFL draft.

Eagles | T.J. Graham signs with Eagles    Fri Apr 22, 01:33 PM

Free-agent WR T.J. Graham (Saints) signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, April 22.

Eagles | Sam Bradford likely wants trade    Thu Apr 21, 04:16 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is expected to ask to be traded, according to a source, despite executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman stating that Bradford is still the starter. It was previously reported that Bradford is upset with the Eagles' trading up in the NFL Draft for what will likely be a quarterback.

Footballguys view: And I want a pony. We may both come away disappointed, as the Eagles may not want to move him, since they have no guarantee that the rookie they choose will be ready to go. Could he force one? Perhaps, because he wants to make sure he gets a chance to show teams he can still play. If they give the job at some point to the rookie, that won't happen. Keep an eye on this, because some teams (COUGH THE JETS COUGH) still have no quarterback and could make a trade on draft day.

Eagles | Sam Bradford upset about trade    Wed Apr 20, 07:19 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford was not happy after the Eagles traded up for the No. 2 overall pick, with which they are expected to draft a quarterback. Bradford is mad and wants to show everyone who is best, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Although, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said Bradford is still the starter.

Footballguys view: We'll see where this goes, but there's a part of us who cannot help but wonder why Bradford is shocked since his deal itself showed that the team wasn't sold. However, if it fires him up and he produces more consistently and stays healthy and plays better, then it's a positive. We think Bradford is the guy this season unless the Eagles fall out of contention and could be a decent bye week player for fantasy teams.

Eagles | Philly to pay high price for quarterbacks    Wed Apr 20, 03:09 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QBs Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and likely one of North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz or California QB Jared Goff will cost the Eagles more than $42 million. Bradford is due $18 million, Daniel is due $7 million and Wentz or Goff will be due at least $16 million, including a signing bonus.

Footballguys view: With as much money as they will be paying out, the front office had better be right about their selections. We think Bradford gets the start only to be supplanted by the rookie somewhere near the end of the season. That said, given how many picks the team gave up, if the new quarterback isn't the answer, they could be set back for a long time.

Eagles | Sam Bradford remains the starter    Wed Apr 20, 02:38 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will remain the starter after the team acquired the No. 2 overall draft pick Wednesday, April 20, according to Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman.

Footballguys view: He will right up until his replacement looks competent or the Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs. We want to see more of this situation in camp before we get behind Bradford, who could also get yanked if he struggles as he has in the past.

Eagles | Philly OK with Jared Goff or Carson Wentz    Wed Apr 20, 02:36 PM

California QB Jared Goff or North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz falling to the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 2 overall is fine with the team as they're looking to 'invest in quarterbacks,' according to Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman.

Footballguys view: They are tight with Rams ownership so, if the Rams know (and we believe they do) then the Eagles know who they are getting. As GM Howie Roseman has said that they know who they are getting and referred to a rookie quarterback, we're guessing they moved up knowing what was happening. We think Wentz would be a good fit for this offense and he could sit behind Sam Bradford for a year while he developed.

Eagles | Sam Bradford staying put    Wed Apr 20, 02:17 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford isn't on the trade block after the team acquired the second overall draft pick Wednesday, April 20, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Bradford could still get traded, but it makes a lot of sense that the Eagles would keep him around and give their new starter time to adjust to the pro game. It's likely Bradford could move on once the team feels the new quarterback has a handle on things. We don't love Bradford - he keeps burning owners - and the situation is a bit too fluid to depend on him. We'll wait and see what next week brings.

Eagles | Philly could slide into the No. 2 pick    Tue Apr 19, 11:17 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles might be able to make a deal with the Cleveland Browns for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, as they like North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz. According to a source, such a deal would mean the Eagles send the Browns first- and third-round compensation in 2016 and 2017.

Footballguys view: We actually don't expect a move on this until the Rams officially name their pick (either at the draft or just prior to it). That could make Thursday night fascinating for fans of the Jets, Eagles, Niners and potentially a few other teams. If the Rams end up going for Wentz, that could change things for suitors of the Browns pick. If they go for California-boy Goff though, expect things to get a little frantic on the Cleveland Browns' phones.

Eagles | Philly eyeing the No. 2 pick?    Tue Apr 19, 04:45 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are a potential buyer for the Cleveland Browns' No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Nothing is imminent, though, and both sides will be patient about the situation, according to NFL Network's Jeff Darlington. Head coach Doug Pederson has shown interest in both North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz and California QB Jared Goff.

Footballguys view: Way to go Philadelphia. They turned the quarterback market upside down with the large contract they gave to Sam Bradford earlier this year. Now, they could shake things up again and move up from no.8 to no.2 overall. Either rookie QB would be better than Bradford, but it's a head-scratching decision given the $17.5 million annual salary they handed out to Bradford.

Eagles | Philly HC high on Carson Wentz    Mon Apr 18, 10:31 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz appears to be the highest quarterback on the draft board of the Philadelphia Eagles. Head coach Doug Pederson indicated Monday, April 18, that he feels Wentz is the real deal.

Footballguys view: Wentz has the movement skills to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. He can make all the throws required in the NFL, and Wentz is not afraid to challenge a defense downfield.

Eagles | Darren Sproles may miss camp    Mon Apr 18, 10:41 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles may miss the minicamp this week due to a family issue.

Footballguys view: Sproles is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need every practice rep. He'll be learning a new system under head coach Doug Pederson, and Sproles should once again be a quality change-of-pace back for the Eagles in 2016.

Eagles | Two teams interested in Ryan Mathews    Fri Apr 15, 12:16 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is a player the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys are interested in if the Eagles make him available.

Footballguys view: Sources said it's unlikely the Eagles would trade him to a division rival in Dallas or their former head coach Chip Kelly's new team in San Francisco. The Eagles seem to be really interested in Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott, a first-round pick and potential pick for the Eagles at 8th overall.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews to play more outside     Wed Apr 13, 07:59 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews said he will play more on the outside during organized team activities.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see how Matthews adapts to the role. The Eagles passing game may be lackluster under new head coach Doug Pederson, but Matthews is the primary WR in this bunch and the most fantasy-relevant pass-catcher on the team.

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch visited the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 11, Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott visited Tuesday, April 12, North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz visited Wednesday, April 13, and California QB Jared Goff will visit Thursday, April 14.

Footballguys view: Even with the addition of Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel this offseason in free agency, the Eagles are interested in adding a QB at some point in the NFL draft. Goff and Wentz are likely to go off the board in the top five, but a player like Prescott may be available in the second or third round.

Eagles | Ezekiel Elliott perks Eagles' interest    Wed Apr 13, 11:06 AM

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott has been extensively scouted by Philadelphia Eagles, who are reportedly 'in love with him.'

Footballguys view: April is the month of liars and misinformation, but this connection has been around for some time. Elliott is easily the best RB in this draft class, and he could be Jamaal Charles for Doug Pederson's (former Chiefs OC) offense in Philly.

Eagles | Ezekiel Elliott visiting Philadelphia    Tue Apr 12, 05:18 PM

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, April 12, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Elliott should fall to the Eagles with the 8th-overall pick. He's a fine all-purpose runner with the power to grind down opponents. Elliott has a ton of upside as a pro, and he'll be a rookie RB that fantasy owners want to add come August.

Eagles | Philly wants Carson Wentz     Thu Apr 7, 07:15 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz has drawn serious interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Eagles want to try to trade up to draft him, according to NFL.com's Lance Zierlein. 'I know [Eagles head coach] Doug Pederson loves him,' Zierlein said. 'I know that from people behind the scenes, in the know. That's who he wants and that's who he likes. It's just going to be tough [to trade up for Wentz].'

Footballguys view: At this point last year they "wanted Mariota" so we'll take that in the spirit of complete and utter disbelief, although Zierlein is definitely plugged in. That's not to say that the Eagles wouldn't love Wentz to fall to them but as Zierlein points out, it's tough to move up and be certain you'll get him. Certainly this could be an indication which supports the idea that Sam Bradford doesn't have the franchise's complete faith.

Eagles | Sam Bradford playing for his future    Wed Apr 6, 11:27 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will likely be getting a one-year look from the team, as he is guaranteed only $4 million in the second year of his current deal. He got better as the season progressed in 2015, but the team visited the top quarterbacks in this year's draft, and inked QB Chase Daniel to a three-year, $21 million contract as a backup plan. The team can get out of Bradford's deal if it doesn't work out for $22 million total, and some team is likely to sign Bradford for $4 million in 2017 if he is released, offsetting a $4 million loss.

Footballguys view: Bradford has had many chances and the short term nature of the deal makes you wonder what his real chances are. The biggest key is just staying healthy, something which has been an issue his entire career.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is confident that he'll start in his first season with the Eagles this year. Randle said he's familiar with Philadelphia after playing against them for several years and he's excited to showcase his opportunities.

Footballguys view: We're not so sure that Randle will play a large role for the Eagles. With Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor likely to be the top two WRs in 2016, Randle may be competing for the WR3 role.

Eagles | Sign Ryan Mueller    Fri Apr 1, 03:53 PM

Free-agent FB Ryan Mueller (Chargers) signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, April 1.

Footballguys view: Mueller, a former linebacker, brings a hard-nosed playing style to the field as a fullback. He'll help blast open holes for the Eagles offense. He's basically Doug Pederson's Philadelphia version of Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman.

Eagles | Philadelphia meeting with Paxton Lynch    Thu Mar 31, 09:42 PM

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch is scheduled to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, March 31.

Footballguys view: Eight overall is a bit rich for Paxton Lynch, but the Eagles might think he could be around in the second round or they could decide to trade back. Lynch is a solid player and the third best quarterback in the draft and for a team looking to reboot a little (and unsure Sam Bradford can be 'the guy'), Lynch could be a nice fit.

Eagles | Philly to work out Carson Wentz    Tue Mar 29, 06:26 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz is slated to work out for the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 30.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have the 8th-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and there's a slim chance Wentz could still be on the board. We think Wentz is likely to be selected by the Browns with the 2nd-overall pick in the draft.

Eagles | Philadelphia working out Jared Goff    Mon Mar 28, 05:57 PM

California QB Jared Goff is working out for the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 28.

Footballguys view: Interesting. The Eagles kept Sam Bradford around for a larger contract that really tilted the QB market this offseason. Then they added Chase Daniel to be the backup for a good price. With the 8th-overall pick we just don't see them going QB even if Goff falls to that spot. Perhaps they just want teams behind them in the draft to think it's a consideration.

Eagles | Rueben Randle agrees to deal with Eagles    Wed Mar 23, 05:13 PM

Free-agent WR Rueben Randle (Giants) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Randle's deal has some incentives, but it is a prove it deal, and one that shows little interest in the 2012 second rounder. He'll have a chance to be the Eagles' #3 receiver behind Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor, which can be a decent sized-role if the team uses a lot of three wide sets with Matthews in the slot.

Eagles | Philly could trade up for Carson Wentz    Wed Mar 23, 03:58 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz could be a target of the Philadelphia Eagles on the first day of the NFL Draft. An anonymous NFC executive said not to be surprised if a team like the Eagles trades up with the Cleveland Browns in order to draft Wentz. 'I don't think he's worth it, but I think they do,' the executive said.

Footballguys view: Wentz, Jared Goff, and Paxton Lynch will be tough commodities to nail down with multiple teams in the top 10 need quarterbacks long-term and their evaluations all over the board. Some analysts don't even have one of them as worth a top 20 pick. The Eagles have Sam Bradford, but he is not a long-term solution, so if their evaluation identifies Wentz as a potential franchise quarterback, they must consider him.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews to try outside sets    Wed Mar 23, 09:44 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews will line up outside some in training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Matthews has a skillset and style that is more effective in the slot, but at this point in his development, it's time to put him to the test against outside corners with the sideline as an extra defender. He's a boom/bust low WR2 in early drafts.
