Eagles | Philly not pursuing Nick Foles?    Sun Feb 7, 08:12 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles has no chance of being reacquired by the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Meh. Never say never, but this might still be a possibility. Foles was benched by the Rams late in the 2015 season, and he carries a cap number around $8 million for 2016. It's unclear what the Rams would want in return for Foles.

Eagles | Philly interested in Nick Foles?    Sun Feb 7, 01:23 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles could be an option for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason because head coach Doug Pederson drafted them when they were both with Philadelphia and is interested in Foles, according to sources.

Footballguys view: There are many Eagles fans who are not okay with this. Foles looked great in 2013 when he had 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions under former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. Since then, it's been downhill for the young quarterback. He was a bust with the Rams, and the team is looking for a new passer to lead the team. Perhaps going back to work with Pederson is the best thing for Foles, but call us skeptical if the move happens.

Eagles | No tag expected for Sam Bradford     Sun Feb 7, 01:17 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford is not expected to receive the franchise tag this offseason, but the team is still interested in re-signing him, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bradford will be an interesting player to sign. He's a decent starter, but Bradford's injury history reads like Infinite Jest. Any team that signs him will need to take that into account, and those injury problems should discount his price.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray unlikely to be cut    Fri Feb 5, 12:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray is guaranteed $7 million in 2016, and the Eagles would take a $13 million salary cap hit if they were to release him before June 1, which makes Murray unlikely to be cut. Murray would likely have to take a pay cut to be traded.

Footballguys view: Murray staying on the Eagles might not be a best case scenario. New head coach Doug Pederson is in the Andy Reid mold, and just because the Eagles will be forced to keep him due to financial considerations doesn't mean that they'll have to make him a central part of the office. The best case scenario for fantasy players might be that pay cut and trade.

Eagles | Doug Pederson hints at QB change    Thu Feb 4, 09:14 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson listed finding a 'young quarterback' as one of the steps necessary for team to have success, which could mean QB Sam Bradford is not in the team's plans moving forward.

Footballguys view: Pederson has previously complimented Bradford, but what else is he supposed to say? At this time, Bradford's future with the team is up in the air. Bradford is a decent starter, but injury problems have plagued most of his career and that makes signing him to a long-term contract riskier.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray committed to Eagles    Thu Feb 4, 07:48 PM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray said he is committed to the Eagles despite rumors that there may be dissension between Murray and Philadelphia and despite a tweet by Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant telling Murray to return to the Cowboys.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have Murray under contract through 2019, and he's got a $7 million cap number in 2016. There's $13 million left in dead money on his contract according to Spotrac.com. Of course Murray is committed to the Eagles because he's getting paid...and he's getting more than he likely would from the open market.

Eagles | Three teams eyeing DeMarco Murray?    Thu Feb 4, 05:35 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray could be courted by the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders or Dallas Cowboys if he does not return to the Eagles next season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Those three teams were interested in Murray last offseason before he signed with the Eagles.

Footballguys view: Whether that would be a wise move on either part is debatable -- Murray looked awful this past season, though it is unclear how much of that was his role in Chip Kelly's ill-conceived scheme, how much was burnout from a massive amount of carries in 2014 and what might have been a loss of ability.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray on the outs in Philly?    Thu Feb 4, 12:57 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles and RB DeMarco Murray appear to be at odds regarding his future with the organization. The division is based on Murray's disappointing 2015 season, the team's conviction he is the long-term answer at running back and the huge five-year, $40 million contract he signed last offseason.

Footballguys view: Given how badly he under performed his contract last year this is not a shock. Murray and the Eagles may also see his role differently with the new coaching staff. We don't expect him to be cut, but clearly the Eagles are thinking twice about keeping his contract level so high. We think he could be a good fit for the new offense, but this season certainly was a massive disappointment.

Eagles | Philly could draft quarterback    Wed Feb 3, 03:46 PM

If Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford does not return in 2016, the Eagles could use a high draft pick on the position and look for a quarterback in free agency to help bridge the gap until that rookie is capable of starting, in the opinion of PhillyVoice.com's Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have the 13th-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. There may be as many as four QBs taken in the first round of the draft, but by the time the pick comes up for the Eagles guys like Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) and Jared Goff (California) could be gone. That would leave players like Connor Cook (Michigan State) or Paxton Lynch (Memphis) as options for the Eagles. Under new head coach Doug Pederson, a guy like Lynch would make some sense.

Eagles | Sam Bradford unlikely to return?    Wed Feb 3, 03:32 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has a good chance of not returning to Philadelphia next season, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com. Kempski said he would lean heavily towards Bradford not being re-signed.

Footballguys view: New head coach Doug Pederson has spoken highly of Bradford, but there's no guarantee they'll work to keep him. Bradford is an okay starter, and he'd be a decent fit in Pederson's offense. However, injuries and inconsistencies have hurt Bradford throughout his career and those problems could give the team pause when considering a long-term deal for him.

Eagles | Lane Johnson endorses Sam Bradford    Sun Jan 31, 07:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson said he thinks the team would benefit from re-signing QB Sam Bradford. 'I definitely want him to say,' Johnson said. 'If you look at the last part of the year, Sam was doing really well. Completing a lot of passes and getting comfortable. Him staying here, him being familiar with the players, I think that would really help us out.'

Footballguys view: Bradford has the support of his teammates, but the Eagles may let him go in free agency if they feel that a better QB is available through the 2016 NFL draft. The Eagles have the 13th-overall pick, and there are early mock draft that have QB Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) falling to them. After Wentz's performance in the Senior Bowl, we don't think he'll fall out of the top 10. Bradford should return to the Eagles, but that's no sure thing as of right now.

Eagles | Lane Johnson signs new deal    Fri Jan 29, 11:08 AM

Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson signed a six-year contract through the 2021 season Friday, Jan. 29.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have been spending some money over the last week or so. With tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz wrapped up, the Eagles moved on to get Johnson's deal secure. With a $9.7 million cap hit in 2016, LT Jason Peters may not be back with the team. That means Johnson could be asked to shift over to the left side in the near future.

Eagles | Philly could let Sam Bradford walk    Fri Jan 29, 12:25 AM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford could hit the open market if the team believes there is a franchise quarterback available in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have been spending some money to extend guys like OT Lane Johnson, TE Zach Ertz and TE Brent Celek. The future of Bradford is up in the air. There have been multiple reports about him staying with the team if the price if right. Bradford could fit well under new head coach Doug Pederson, but his contract would have to be structured correctly and take into account his injury history. There are some mock drafts out there that have North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz (a potential franchise QB) falling to the Eagles at 13th overall. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Brent Celek signs extension    Tue Jan 26, 01:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek signed a three-year, $13 million extension Tuesday, Jan. 26, which includes $6 million guaranteed, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have now locked down both of their tight ends. On Monday, Zach Ertz signed a five-year, $42.5 million deal with $20 million in guarantees. Now, the team keep Celek around for a reasonable price. New head coach Doug Pederson is bringing the West Coast offense back to the Eagles, and both tight ends were important to the plans for 2016. Ertz will be the most fantasy relevant of the two as he's the best receiver, but Celek will continue to work well as the in-line blocker.

Eagles | Sam Bradford wants to stay in Philly?    Tue Jan 26, 12:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford would like to stay in Philadelphia, according to Eagles TE Zach Ertz. 'I think he's excited,' Ertz said. 'He wants to be in Philadelphia.' New head coach Doug Pederson said last week that Bradford is a top-notch quarterback that would fit his system well.

Footballguys view: It sounds like both sides want to work things out. With Pederson taking over as head coach, the Eagles are going to run a timing-based West Coast offense. That's perfect for the type of quarterback that Bradford is.

Eagles | Three Eagles may land deals    Tue Jan 26, 11:22 AM

Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson, DE Fletcher Cox and impending free-agent DE Vinny Curry have had discussions about long-term deals.   Eagles | Zach Ertz finished strong    Mon Jan 25, 01:15 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz had 35 catches for 450 yards over the last four weeks of the regular season, which was the highest yardage total by a tight end in NFL history in the final four weeks.

Footballguys view: Not everything went right for the Eagles this year, but Ertz was a bright spot. New Eagles head coach Doug Pederson will use Ertz in a similar fashion to the way he used Travis Kelce when he was OC with the Chiefs. That's great news for Ertz, the Eagles....and fantasy owners.

Eagles | West coast offense in Philly?    Mon Jan 25, 12:23 PM

With the arrival of new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, the Eagles are expected to switch to the West Coast offense that doesn't require as much blocking for its tight ends.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Pederson is a West Coast guy, and the Eagles will take on that style of offense in 2016.

Eagles | Zach Ertz lands big deal    Mon Jan 25, 10:26 AM

Updating an immediate report, Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz signed a five-year, $42.5 million deal with $20 million in guarantees Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: The deal makes him the fourth-highest-paid tight end in the league. Ertz had flashed talent before this year, but it was 2015 when he finally put it all together--especially late in the season. Under new Eagles coach Doug Pederson in his West Coast offense, we should see plenty of Ertz in 2016. He's a TE1 for fantasy owners, and he could best his TE10 spot from 2015 this next season.

Eagles | More production from Zach Ertz?    Sat Jan 23, 06:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz posted 75 receptions in 2015, but he had six games with three receptions or fewer in 15 games played. Ertz hasn't been featured as much in the passing game in recent seasons, but head coach Doug Pederson maximized the talents of Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce in their time together, now Ertz is likely to be in the game plan more going forward.

Footballguys view: Ertz can be a dangerous weapon, but he doesn't score that many touchdowns. A lack of touchdown catches limits his fantasy value. Keep this Pederson/Kelce connection in mind when considering a tight end next year. Ertz finished 2015 as TE10, but he could finish 2016 as an even better fantasy player.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews to get FB    Sat Jan 23, 06:55 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RBs DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews are expected to have company in the backfield in 2016, as head coach Doug Pederson has liked to have a fullback on the roster and use him to block in the running game.

Footballguys view: The Eagles will likely use some form of RBBC between the two. Murray could be the lead back, but Mathews is a proven player and deserves time as well. This will be an interesting fantasy situation to navigate before next year's fantasy drafts.

Eagles | Darren Sproles might see more passes    Sat Jan 23, 06:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles might be featured more in the passing game under new head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Sproles can be a factor in PPR leagues. He may get a larger opportunity with the change in coaching. With the right amount of catches, yards and touchdowns we could see Sproles break back into being a top-30 fantasy running back. He hasn't been in the top 30 since 2012 (no. 22) when he was with the Saints.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews to move from slot?    Sat Jan 23, 06:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews was one of the biggest slot receivers in the league under former head coach Chip Kelly. Beat writer Dave Spadaro suggests Matthews might be moved to the outside now, as Matthews absorbed a lot of shots in the middle of the field working in the slot, and the team could try to work him more into free space.

Footballguys view: Even with the limitations of the slot, Matthews finished as the 19th-best fantasy receiver in standard scoring. This was up from 24th where he ranked as a rookie in 2014. With the proper usage, Matthews could continue to rise up the fantasy rankings.

Eagles | Philadelphia want to lock up Zach Ertz    Fri Jan 22, 10:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is one of the players the team wants to sign to a long-term deal, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Ertz is under contract through 2016, and he has a $1.7 million cap number in the final year of his deal. Last season, Ertz posted a career-best 853 receiving yards. However, he was only able to snare two touchdowns. In order to be a more effective fantasy tight end (he was 10th-best in 2015), Ertz needs to become a bigger presence in the red zone.

Philadelphia Eagles LB Kiko Alonso is likely to shift over to weak-side linebacker with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Schwartz envisioned Alonso on the weak side when they were together with the Buffalo Bills before the linebacker suffered an injury.

Footballguys view: Alonso can be a productive player no matter where he lines up in the NFL. Injuries and lack of durability are the biggest concern with the veteran linebacker.

Eagles | Sam Bradford finished on strong note    Tue Jan 19, 04:40 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford completed 202 of 304 passes for 2,164 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing just five interceptions in his final eight games of the 2015 season.

Footballguys view: We'll see what kind of deal Bradford would be willing to accept in order to stay with the Eagles. It will be interesting to see how the contract could be structured given Bradford's lengthy injury history. Bradford has already been lauded by new head coach Doug Pederson, and Pederson believes Bradford would be a perfect fit in the system Pederson will implement.

Former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has agreed to a deal to become the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Tuesday, Jan. 19. The deal is not officially signed, but an agreement is in place.

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to pursue Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson as their next head coach now that former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to a source.

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching job, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This is a bit surprising as it seemed like a very good match. Whether it was something he felt about the interview or if it just felt weird to be talking to a former rival, who knows. The Eagles will be scrambling though, as most of the top candidates have moved on. Keep an eye on Josh McDaniels from New England as this could be a landing spot for him to get a second chance.

Updating a previous report, former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is scheduled to interview for the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching position Monday, Jan. 11, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The pendulum is swinging back here for the Eagles. They fired Chip Kelly, a known innovator and risk-taker...and now, they'd possibly be considering an old-school coach like Coughlin. It's a bit surprising that Coughlin doesn't want to step away for a year, but he's resigned from the Giants not retired.

Footballguys view: Jon Gruden....Bill Cowher, these are names constantly swirling around when coaching searches are happening. TV money is good money, and a TV gig doesn't come with the pressure that a head-coaching gig does. We love Gruden (and he likes everybody), but we think he's going to stay in the booth.
