Eagles | Mark Sanchez could be best option for PHI    Sat May 16, 07:26 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez could be the team's best bet for a starting quarterback. Sanchez went 4-4 after taking over as the starter last season, and finished the campaign with a career best 64.1 completion percentage. Sanchez has played all but one game during his six-year career, showing health that's lacked by the Eagles' other options.

Footballguys view: Sanchez is a decent starter in this offense, and he may prove to be a better (healthier) option than Sam Bradford. We like Bradford's accuracy and anticipation as a passer, but his pro career has been plagued by numerous severe injuries. We'll see how this shakes out in training camp. The Eagles starting quarterback is fantasy relevant, but at varying levels depending on who wins the job.

Eagles | Sam Bradford perfect for Philadelphia?    Thu May 14, 10:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is a perfect fit for Chip Kelly's offense because he can make all the throws with a 'top-notch' arm, is a 'better athlete than people think' and operates best out of a no-huddle attack, according to New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Footballguys view: Bradford definitely has the mental acumen, quick setup/release, and short-range accuracy to run the Eagles pass offense well. The bigger question is how he'll look after a long layoff from football that reportedly included a deliberation about retirement. The Eagles offense under Chip Kelly has routinely gotten QB1 numbers out of worse talents, so health is the key to Bradford's value this year. He could end up being one of the best late round QB picks of fantasy drafts and has a very easy start to his career.

Eagles | Riley Cooper may not start in 2015    Mon May 11, 02:22 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper may not have a starting job this season with the drafting of WR Nelson Agholor.

Footballguys view: We like Agholor as a starter from day one, and he's a player fantasy owners need to be monitoring closely. The rookie is much more naturally talented than Cooper, and his quickness/speed combination should make him a dangerous weapon for the offense. Agholor's current ADP is WR51 (11.09), and it could rise as we get closer to the start of the regular season.

  Eagles | Rookie Agholor a WR1?    Sat May 9, 06:35 PM

Jeff McLane, from the Philadelphia Enquirer, speculates we could see Eagles first-round pick Nelson Agholor as the team's number one wide receiver. The thought is the rookie will take the place of Jeremy Maclin in the offense. Agholor is used to working in an up-tempo system from his 2014 season at USC. "Last year, we kind of went into more of an up-tempo, no-huddle offense with Steve Sarkisian," Agholor said.

Footballguys view: Eagles head coach Chip Kelly described Agholor as an "inside, outside" guy. That means the team is going to move him around the formation to find the best matchup. We like Jordan Matthews, but he's more of an Eric Decker-like player who best fits as a WR2. Agholor's current ADP is WR51 (11.09) while Matthews ADP is WR18 (4.05). Monitor this situation during camp and the preseason.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor signs deal    Thu May 7, 02:15 PM

Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft choice WR Nelson Agholor signed a four-year deal with the team Thursday, May 7. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Agholor is a solid prospect with little competition beyond Jordan Matthews, who has said he is not comfortable as a No. 1 receiver. That could mean the former USC receiver could be in for a ton of targets. Agholor should go high in rookie drafts. His current ADP is 12-team PPR re-draft leagues is WR52 (11.07).

Eagles | Mark Sanchez has chance to start in PHI    Wed May 6, 03:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez believes he can still start this year. 'Really just talking with [head] coach [Chip] Kelly and knowing I'm coming with the opportunity to compete for the starting job, that was important to me,' Sanchez said.

Footballguys view: Sanchez has a leg up on the competition because he worked in this system last year. Sam Bradford was brought in earlier this year, but he's struggled to stay healthy as a pro...and those injuries problems could once again haunt him this season. If he's the starter, Sanchez is still merely a QB2 for fantasy owners.

Eagles | Deny Sam Bradford trade rumors    Sat May 2, 04:35 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford was shopped to both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans, according to sources, but Eagles coach Chip Kelly has denied the rumors.

Footballguys view: Of course they will deny it - there's no way that it looks good otherwise. They have Bradford, he's their guy since the trade up for Marcus Mariota failed. Bradford has the chance to be successful if he stays healthy, which has always been the issue. He could be a decent QB2 but he's risky.

Eagles | Philly made big push for Marcus Mariota    Fri May 1, 12:51 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles offered the Tennessee Titans two first-round picks, one third-round pick, DT Fletcher Cox, CB Brandon Boykin, LB Mychal Kendricks and QB Sam Bradford in exchange for the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly tried as hard as he could, but it's difficult to move up from the 20th spot to 2nd overall. We'll see how Mariota works out with the Titans as he seems to be a bit of an odd fit. In Philadelphia, we would have been much more excited about Mariota's pro prospects.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor goes to Philly    Thu Apr 30, 10:20 PM

Southern California WR Nelson Agholor was selected 20th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Footballguys view: Agholor is more quick than fast, but he's a good route-runner who can make plays over the middle of the defense. Since the Eagles picked him up, fantasy owners need to keep a close eye on him in this explosive offense.

Eagles | Making big offer for No. 1 or No. 2    Thu Apr 30, 08:06 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are willing to trade two first-round picks, a third-round pick, DT Fletcher Cox, CB Brandon Boykin, LB Mychal Kendricks and possibly other things in order to acquire the first or second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: It wasn't enough. It seems insane that the Titans didn't pull the trigger on that trade, but they took Marcus Mariota. He's a great prospect so you can't blame him but that's a lot of talent left on the table.

Eagles | PHI in talks with TEN for No. 2 pick    Thu Apr 30, 05:44 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly being most aggressive in the pursuit of the Tennessee Titans No. 2 overall pick, undoubtedly for the rights to Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

Footballguys view: The Eagles were saying there was no way they were trading up, so naturally they are trying to trade up. They tried to bypass the Titans and get them to lower the cost of the No. 2 pick by trying to make it seem like they were trying to go to No. 1. It might have worked.

Eagles | Sam Bradford is Philly's guy    Tue Apr 28, 01:10 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford was acquired to be the team's quarterback, not as a trade pawn. Bradford will only sign an extension with the Eagles with a no-trade clause, as he really wants to play in the system of head coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Footballguys view: He's Philly's guy until they trade him to the Browns. Errr, yes! He sure is Philly's guy. Listen, Bradford is an accurate quarterback who would be an interesting fit in Kelly's system. Here's the problem: the dude just can't stay healthy. The Eagles had better be prepared for a backup QB to play a ton of snaps if they really go into 2015 with Bradford as their starter.

Eagles | Will not select Landon Collins    Sun Apr 26, 06:39 PM

Alabama SS Landon Collins will not be taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Draft, according to team sources.

Footballguys view: Well alrighty then. Collins should be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, but it sounds like the Eagles aren't going to take him. Collins is an in-the-box thumper who can intimidate opponents. He can shut down the run with force, and he does a fantastic job of diagnosing plays as they unfold in front of him. Collins will likely struggle in coverage at the pro level.

Eagles | Three UConn players work out    Sat Apr 25, 02:39 AM

Connecticut CB Byron Jones, WR Geremy Davis and DT B.J. McBryde all worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, April 24.

Footballguys view: Jones is the player to watch here, and he could certainly be an option for the Eagles with the 20th-overall pick in the first round. He has great size for the position, measuring in at 6'1" 200 pounds. Jones is instinctive and has the ability to break up passes consistently. He's not an elite athlete, leading some to think that a switch to free safety might be in his future. Either way, Jones can make plays and will likely be a top-40 pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Eagles | Philly pursuing Marcus Mariota?    Fri Apr 24, 05:54 PM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota could be selected by the Philadelphia Eagles if the team could make trades with the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans, according to one draft rumor.

Footballguys view: Of course they're looking to add Mariota. The rumor states the Eagles would trade QB Sam Bradford to the Browns for the 19th overall pick, then the Eagles would trade DT Fletcher Cox, LB Mychal Kendricks, the 19th overall pick and the 20th overall pick to the Titans for the second overall pick where they would select Mariota.

Eagles | PHI rescinds Chris Polk's tender    Fri Apr 24, 05:28 PM

Philadelphia Eagles restricted free-agent RB Chris Polk's tender offer has been rescinded by the Eagles, according to a source. Polk will become an unrestricted free agent and allowed to sign with any team.

Footballguys view: There are $1.54 million reasons the Eagles did this. With DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles, and Ryan Mathews in the house, there was no need for Polk at that price. Someone will take a shot with him though may have to earn a roster spot in camp.

Eagles | Sam Bradford contract talks are dormant    Thu Apr 23, 04:07 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has reportedly not had meaningful contract talks regarding an extension. Bradford is in the final year of his rookie deal. The quarterback is open to signing an extension if he is not traded.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. We'd be surprised if Bradford is even with the team after the draft. They could move him in order to maneuver in the first round...or they could keep him and start him Week 1. Even if Bradford sticks around, he needs to prove that he can stay healthy before the Eagles (or any team) would be willing to invest in him with a long-term deal.

Eagles | Alani Fua visits    Thu Apr 23, 02:58 AM

BYU OLB Alani Fua visited the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Fua is a versatile player who can rush the passer from multiple spots on defense. He lacks power to be a consistent run-stuffer, but he can cover better than a lot of other linebackers in this class. He could be a fifth-round pick in the draft.

Link to story

Eagles | No contract talks with Sam Bradford    Thu Apr 23, 01:52 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles and QB Sam Bradford have yet to make significant progress on a contract extension sparking speculation the quarterback might be traded again, although head coach Chip Kelly insists Bradford won't be used as a bargaining chip.

Footballguys view: We're not even sure that Bradford is going to be with the Eagles after the draft. Even if he's the Week 1 starter for the Eagles, there's no telling whether or not he can stay healthy. His college and pro careers have both been marred by numerous injuries. Bradford isn't worth investing in long term unless he can prove that staying healthy is no longer a problem.

Eagles | Tim Tebow officially signs    Mon Apr 20, 03:51 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) officially signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 20. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: It will be a bit surprising if Tebow actually makes the final roster. It will certainly give us a lot to talk about between now and then.

Eagles | Phillip Dorsett visiting Philadelphia    Sun Apr 19, 11:09 PM

Miami (Fla.) WR Phillip Dorsett is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 20, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Dorsett can absolutely fly down the field, and he plays a lot like former Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson. In addition to blazing speed (4.29 40-yard dash), Dorsett has amazing footwork that helps him create separation from defenders before his break on the route and after the catch. He's still somewhat raw as a route-runner, but Dorsett has enough natural ability--and oh yeah, SPEED--for teams to see him as a second-round pick in the draft.

Eagles | Tim Tebow to sign with Philadelphia    Sun Apr 19, 07:39 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 20.

Footballguys view: Oh boy, here we go again. Tebow flamed out with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets before getting a shot with the New England Patriots in 2013. He didn't make the team, and Tebow was out of football last year. Tebow has been working diligently to improve his throwing motion and footwork as a passer. Those close to him say that he looks better than ever when throwing the ball. We say that's aawesome, but Tebow needs to work in a system that is simple. Fortunately for him, Chip Kelly's offense in Philadelphia is not exactly complex. We'll be shocked if he makes the final roster, but it's going to be an interesting and wild ride with Tebow back in the league.

Eagles | Joe Okafor visits    Fri Apr 17, 03:09 AM

Lamar DT Joe Okafor met with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, April 16.

Footballguys view: A former Oklahoma State Cowboy, Okafor transferred to Lamar a couple of years ago. He had an impressive pro day, and Okafor could be a good five technique on the defensive line as a rotational player. He's a late-round pick or priority free agent.

Eagles | Cedric Thornton re-signs    Mon Apr 13, 04:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles restricted free-agent DE Cedric Thornton re-signed to a one-year contract Monday, April 13. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Thornton has been a starter for the Eagles over the last two years. He'll continue to be one of their best run-stuffers in the trenches this season.

Eagles | Donovan Smith brought in    Mon Apr 13, 06:47 AM

Penn State OT Donovan Smith was brought in for a visit by the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a team source.

Footballguys view: Smith is a powerful run-blocker who can control his man at the point of attack. He lacks the athleticism to play tackle in the NFL, and he may be a better fit inside at guard. Smith should be a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Eagles | La'el Collins visits    Fri Apr 10, 04:08 PM

Louisiana State OT La'el Collins met with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Collins is a more of a mauler than a finesse tackle, which would fit in just fine with the Eagles mode of attack on offense.

Eagles | PHI interested in Breshad Perriman    Wed Apr 8, 12:42 PM

Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman is scheduled to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2015 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys view: At 6'2" 215 pounds, Perriman is more explosive than other receivers his size. He can get off the line of scrimmage quickly and cleanly, and Perriman does a good job maintaining his speed out of the break. He's raw as a route-runner, but his physical skill set make him an intriguing option for teams in the late first or early second round. Perriman's speed and big-play ability would be an interesting fit for the Eagles' high-powered offense.

Eagles | Cedric Peerman visits    Wed Apr 8, 12:09 PM

Free-agent RB Cedric Peerman (Bengals) recently met with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Peerman is--and has always been--a super versatile player who can contribute as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. The Eagles have a stacked running back corps led by DeMarco Murray with Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles behind him. Peerman would mostly be a special teams player if added to the Eagles roster.

Free-agents CB E.J. Biggers (Redskins) and WR Seyi Ajirotutu (Chargers) signed one-year contracts with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, April 7. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Biggers can line up as a slot corner, but he can also play safety if called upon. Ajirotutu has good length and speed, but he's never done a whole lot during his pro career. He'll likely be used mostly on special teams.

Eagles | E.J. Biggers visiting Philadelphia    Tue Apr 7, 08:41 AM

Free-agent CB E.J. Biggers (Redskins) will visit the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, April 7.

Footballguys view: The Eagles are looking for a replacement for Bradley Fletcher who signed with the Patriots last month. Biggers spent the last two seasons with Washington after starting his career with the Buccaneers. He's a utility man who can line up as a reserve corner or at safety if need be.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews to have bigger role    Fri Apr 3, 01:52 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews said the team won't really have a designated No. 1 receiver in place to replace the production that will be lost with WR Jeremy Maclin signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. 'People ask me about being the No. 1 wide receiver; Forget it,' Matthews said. 'I want us to be a receiving corps. That's what I want it to be.' Matthews was the team's second leading receiver in 2014 with 67 catches for 872 yards and eight touchdowns as the slot receiver. Matthews is likely to play more in 2015 and on the outside.

Footballguys view: Head coach Chip Kelly said he sees Matthews playing 'a lot of different spots.' Kelly is confident in Matthews and WR Josh Huff, and TE Zach Ertz and RB Darren Sproles could be used more in the passing game.

Eagles | Philadelphia works out Nelson Agholor     Thu Apr 2, 09:33 PM

Former USC WR Nelson Agholor worked out of for the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, April 2, and Sheil Kapadia of Bird 24/7 believes Agholor will rank highly on the Eagles' draft board.

Footballguys view: Agholor is impressive after the catch. He gets off the line quickly, and he does a good job of looking in deep passes over his shoulder. Agholor does have a problem against bigger, more physical corners, and that's why we consider him more of a WR2--and not a WR1--at the pro level.

Eagles | Miles Austin signs with Eagles    Mon Mar 30, 05:27 PM

Free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 30. The deal is worth $2.3 million with $700,000 available in incentives, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Austin gives the Eagles veteran depth at the wide receiver position. That's something they've looked for since losing Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) in free agency. Austin will compete for a reserve spot behind starters Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper. We should see the Eagles draft a wide receiver as well.

Philadelphia Eagles LB DeMeco Ryans (Achilles') said he will be ready for training camp in July after coming back from his second torn Achilles' tendon since 2010.

Footballguys view: He will likely skip the organized team activities and minicamp, however. Ryans said he is right on schedule in his rehab after missing the final nine games of 2014.

Eagles | Sam Bradford considered quitting    Mon Mar 30, 01:59 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) considered quitting football after he suffered his second torn anterior cruciate ligament but was talked out of the idea by former college coach Josh Heupel. Heupel said Bradford is one of the most competitive players he has coached and that Bradford wants to come back and prove himself.

Footballguys view: Bradford has talked about his frustration in coming back from multiple injuries before. Even though that's the case, this revelation about considering retirement does raise some red flags. The Eagles seem to be excited about Bradford's fit in the offense, but who knows if there's any plans to later trade him. Stay tuned.

Updating an earlier report, free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) will likely sign with the Philadelphia Eagles this week if all goes well with his physical, according to a source.

Eagles | Philly high on Sam Bradford    Wed Mar 25, 04:46 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford was valued high by head coach Chip Kelly and owner Jeffrey Lurie before they traded for him this offseason. Lurie said this week that the Eagles evaluated Bradford as 'the best young quarterback we'd seen... probably since Peyton Manning coming out of college' leading up to the 2010 NFL Draft. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who worked with Bradford while with the St. Louis Rams, was maybe the strongest advocate of Bradford before the trade went down.

Footballguys view: Bradford ran a spread offense in college at Oklahoma, and he's a better fit for Chip Kelly's system than Nick Foles was. If healthy (big if), Bradford has the intermediate accuracy to work well in this style of offense.

Eagles | Chip Kelly favors one-cut runners    Wed Mar 25, 09:58 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles traded RB LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills because head coach Chip Kelly desires a one-cut running back, according to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Lurie praised McCoy as a player, but the move was not financially driven. Kelly felt he could garner more production from a different running back or two. Lurie used the term 'power spread' on multiple occasions to describe Kelly's offense.

Footballguys view: The Eagles now have an incredible group of running backs to work with. DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews figure to share the workload.

Eagles | Evan Mathis might be dealt    Mon Mar 23, 11:55 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles might release OG Evan Mathis if they cannot find a trade partner, according to a source close to the situation.

Footballguys view: Mathis was on the trade block last year as well. He carries cap numbers of $6.5 and $7 million over the next two years. Only $2 million of Mathis' remaining contract is guaranteed from his signing bonus, so the Eagles would save $11.5 million over the next two seasons if they cut him.

Eagles | Benardrick McKinney to visit    Tue Mar 17, 07:45 AM

Mississippi State LB Benardrick McKinney will visit the Philadelphia Eagles in advance of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: McKinney is an aggressive player who can sniff out the run. He is a sound tackler and does a good job of forcefully bringing down an opponent. McKinney has the speed to be used as a blitzer, although he lacks the elite athleticism to be used much in coverage. At the very least, McKinney is a good two-down player in the NFL.

Eagles | Matt Barkley available in trade    Tue Mar 17, 07:37 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Matt Barkley is on the trading block, according to those close to the team. The Eagles will likely go with a combination of QB Sam Bradford and QB Mark Sanchez.

Footballguys view: LOL. Barkley would fetch a bag of footballs in a trade. He was a fourth-round pick a couple of years ago, and Barkley has failed to impress any time he's been on the field. There's nothing to see here with his future or potential. We doubt any team would be duped into trading for him.

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) worked out with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 16, but the Eagles have no imminent plans to sign him after his workout.

Footballguys view: We're kind of shocked Tebow got a workout since he's not invited to the NFL veteran combine on Sunday. Tebow would be an interesting fit in Chip Kelly's system. It's similar to the scheme he ran in college at Florida where he finished his Gators career as the most accurate quarterback in SEC history.

Eagles | Sam Bradford to be traded?    Mon Mar 16, 03:15 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is still the subject of trade speculation as coaches attending the West Virginia University Pro Day posited that Bradford could be traded to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the second overall pick in the NFL Draft this year.

Footballguys view: Now why would the Eagles want to move up in the draft? It's no mystery, they're after Marcus Mariota (Oregon). Even though Chip Kelly said there was no interest in moving up for his former college quarterback, we don't believe him for a second. Kelly needs to find a quarterback who can run his system, and Mariota is that guy.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray's deal is official    Thu Mar 12, 07:13 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray's five-year deal is official. The deal is worth $42 million with $21 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly seems to indicate he isn't giving Murray a full load but let's be honest - this is a situation where you are paying a guy a ton of cash so he'll get the ball. Murray is worth a first round pick but don't go nuts and grab him in the top 3. There are too many pitfalls for that, including the presence of Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles...and oh yeah, Murray's monstrous workload from 2014.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews will sign with PHI    Thu Mar 12, 04:48 PM

Free-agent RB Ryan Mathews (Chargers) will indeed sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.

Footballguys view: How this shakes out is anyone's guess with DeMarco Murray in the house as well. Well, unless you are a fantasy owner in which case this sounds complicated. It's hard to imagine that Murray was signed with the intent of splitting carries, but recall that prior to 2014, Murray was often hurt--as was Mathews. Chip Kelly might just be playing the odds and protecting himself.
