Eagles | Trey Burton likely to stick in Philly    Fri Feb 17, 04:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Trey Burton is likely to remain with the club entering the 2017 season. He is a restricted free agent that Philadelphia values for both his growing presence in the offense and ongoing role as one of the team's best special-teams players. Additionally, he's 'developed a close bond' with QB Carson Wentz. The Eagles have the option to keep him by giving him a tender, which Burton is 'likely' to play on and be a restricted free agent next offseason.

Eagles | Eagles expected to keep Brent Celek    Fri Feb 17, 04:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek is likely to remain with the team going into the 2017 season.

Footballguys view: The Eagles like his contributions on the field and around the facility, plus his durability. He'll count $5 million against the cap, but Philadelphia would only save $1 million by releasing him.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson headed back to Philly?    Sun Feb 12, 07:23 PM

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson's potential return to the Philadelphia Eagles is talked about as a 'certainty' by several teams, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall here for quite some time. Jackson is likely to move on from Washington in free agency, and going back to the Eagles could be his destination. The Eagles need more weapons around young QB Carson Wentz, and Jackson still has the speed to get by defenders in a hurry.

Philadelphia Eagles OT Jason Peters has been approached about taking a pay cut, but beat writer David Murphy believes Peters has all the leverage in the situation.

Eagles | Eagles targeting Alshon Jeffery    Fri Feb 10, 03:58 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery has drawn interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to 'several league sources.'

Footballguys view: That move would make a lot of sense. The Eagles need to add better receiving weapons around young QB Carson Wentz. Jeffery would give them an upgrade and could help as a big play target in the red zone. DeSean Jackson is also rumored to be on the wish list for the Eagles.

Eagles | Leodis McKelvin cut    Wed Feb 8, 02:55 PM

Philadelphia Eagles CB Leodis McKelvin was released Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick of the Bills in 2008, McKelvin is not the same player he used to be. Turning 32-years old in September, McKelvin should get a limited amount of interest on the open market.

Eagles | Jason Peters may have to take pay cut    Tue Feb 7, 11:14 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have approached OT Jason Peters about taking a pay cut. He is scheduled to make a base salary of $10.45 million in 2017 and carries a cap number of $11.7 million, the highest on the team.

Eagles | Carson Wentz ready for more    Sat Feb 4, 12:15 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz said he is 'excited' to have quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo back in 2017 and expects the continuity to lead to more growth.

Footballguys view: The Eagles blocked DeFilippo from interviewing with the Jets for their offensive coordinator job, so they clearly value the continuity he brings to Wentz's development. DeFilippo helped get Derek Carr's career off of the right foot in Oakland, so there's reason to value him.

Eagles | Kenny Stills on Eagles' wish list    Thu Feb 2, 08:52 AM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Kenny Stills will be pursued by the Philadelphia Eagles if he becomes a free agent, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Stills will turn 25 in April, which means that a team will get most of his prime years on his second contract. Even though he wore out his welcome with the Saints after two years, he was an effective deep threat for the run-first Dolphins in 2016. The Eagles are lucky to need wide receivers in one of the best free agent markets for the position in years.

Eagles | No decline in Jason Kelce    Thu Jan 26, 09:53 AM

Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce hasn't declined, according to executive vice president Howie Roseman. Kelce could be on the roster bubble next season with a $6.2 million cap number.

Footballguys view: Kelce didn't have his best year, though there were other issues on the offensive line as well and a rookie quarterback to tend to. The money is an issue, though, and we could see the contract renegotiated.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews likely gone    Wed Jan 25, 11:23 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be released in the offseason, in the opinion of PhillyVoice.com's Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Mathews is coming off a serious neck injury (herniated disk) he suffered near the end of the regular season. If the team releases him, they'll clear $4 million in cap space. It's a no-brainer to let him go.

Eagles | Carson Wentz to work with acclaimed QB guru    Wed Jan 25, 12:00 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz will train with quarterback guru Adam Dedeaux this offseason, according to his agent Ryan Tollner.

Footballguys view: It's a wise move by Wentz. Dedeaux is a former minor league pitcher who is the motion mechanics instructor at 3DQB. Wentz saw a decline in his play over the course of the season, and many of his flaws began with bad habits or incorrect mechanics. We're hoping to see an improvement from Wentz in 2017.

Eagles | Taylor Hart moving to offensive line    Mon Jan 23, 01:03 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DL Taylor Hart will make the full-time switch from defensive lineman to offensive tackle this offseason.

Footballguys view: Hart is a high-energy player who the Eagles picked up out of Oregon in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft. A former basketball and volleyball player in college (in addition to football), Hart has moved from defensive tackle to defensive end to now offensive tackle. He has great size and length, but we'll have to see how he makes this transition to the other side of the ball.

Eagles | Carson Wentz plans to rest up    Sun Jan 15, 09:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz said he is going to take some time off to rest his body, especially his arm, before working to improve his throwing mechanics.

Footballguys view: We're looking forward to Wentz's sophomore season in the NFL. The Eagles should add more weapons around him, and they may bring back free agent WR DeSean Jackson to help stretch the field. Add in a running back (this is a great RB class), and the Eagles should have a better offense. Wentz has the makings of a franchise QB and will continue to work on his game. Wentz said his offseason training program could include sessions with quarterback guru Tom House.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor unreliable in 2016    Sat Jan 14, 09:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor dropped six of his 66 targets this season, and his drop rate of 9.1 percent was the third worst in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Agholor just hasn't looked comfortable at the pro level. His best performance of 2016 came in Week 1 (four catches, 57 yards, one touchdown) against the Browns. Dynasty owners are holding onto Agholor, but nobody should expect a turnaround any time soon.

Philadelphia Eagles LB Connor Barwin said he'd accept a pay cut to remain with the Eagles. Barwin has an $8.35 million cap hit for 2017, and cutting him would save $7.75 million.

Footballguys view: The writing is on the wall with Barwin, and he knows it. Barwin has 12 sacks over the last two years with the Eagles after compiling 14.5 sacks in 2014. If he stays with the team, it will be at a reduced price.

Eagles | Trey Burton likely back    Tue Jan 3, 09:27 AM

Philadelphia Eagles restricted free-agent TE Trey Burton is likely to return for the final season of his rookie contract.

Footballguys view: Burton is a dynasty prospect to keep an eye on. Playing behind Zach Ertz won't make him an incredible fantasy asset, but if Ertz goes down with an injury then Burton could certainly be relevant. He finished this year with 37 catches, 327 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Eagles | Brent Celek expects to stay    Tue Jan 3, 09:26 AM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek said he expects to remain with the Eagles in 2017. His cap number is $5 million, and he would cost the team $4 million in dead cap space if he's released. Celek said he's fine with taking fewer snaps in favor of TEs Zach Ertz and Trey Burton.

Eagles | Zach Ertz closes strong    Sun Jan 1, 05:14 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz caught 13 of his 16 targeted passes for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 27-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Ertz will finish with 78 catches for 816 yards this year despite missing two games and only being useful for fantasy leagues in the second half of the year. He should be the #1 target in the Eagles pass offense next season.

Eagles | Carson Wentz solid in finale    Sun Jan 1, 04:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, Jan. 1, in a 27-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Wentz started off 2016 with a bang, but eventually looked like a rookie from North Dakota State. The Eagles still have a lot to build from with Wentz and a defense that was dominant at home at times this year.

Eagles | Doug Pederson to return in 2017    Sun Jan 1, 04:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson will return for the 2017 season, according to a team source. Executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman and vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas will also return.

Footballguys view: The Eagles exceeded expectations considering that they traded their starting quarterback right before the season began, but they faded badly in the second half of the season. They are still in rebuilding mode but at least they replaced the first round pick they traded to Cleveland in the Carson Wentz deal with a pick that will only be a few picks later from Minnesota.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor injured    Sun Jan 1, 02:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 17 and is considered questionable to return. He underwent X-rays on the ankle after leaving the game.

Footballguys view: Agholor was getting more playing time after he was put aside in the offseason after a midseason slump. He'll be part of a free for all battle for wide receiver snaps in Philadelphia next year, but his dynasty stock took a huge hit this season.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) was very limited during practice Friday, Dec. 30, and may not be able to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Terrell Watson was elevated from the team's practice squad Friday, Dec. 30.

Eagles | Darren Sproles to play one more year    Fri Dec 30, 10:24 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles plans to play one more season in 2017.

Footballguys view: We could see Sproles having a similar role in 2017. He's likely to get 50-75 carries and 65 or so receptions if healthy for most of the year. Sproles is always an RB3/flex option with that kind of role.
