Eagles | Zach Ertz needs to block better    Thu Nov 20, 09:19 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has played 143 fewer snaps than TE Brent Celek this season, and when asked why Ertz wasn't playing as much, head coach Chip Kelly pointed to Celek's superior skills as a run blocker.

Footballguys view: This is keeping Ertz from getting off the ground as a fantasy TE in this prolific offense. It could be something that caps his upside for the duration of his career with the Eagles because blocking is not his strength.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews fully practices     Thu Nov 20, 02:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Footballguys view: We're expecting a big from from Matthews against Tennessee, and have him ranked as a WR2. Matthews has had at least a touchdown each of the last three games and we believe he'll keep that going this weekend.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy says he is same player    Thu Nov 20, 01:38 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he is the same player he was last season even though he is only averaging 3.7 yards per carry this season, which is the lowest in his career.

Footballguys view: He may think he's the same player - he might even be the same player - but the team around him isn't. The offensive line has had issues, the quarterback situation is wobbly and McCoy himself has been prone to hesitating at the line and stretching the play outside. It's made him struggle and limited his ability to get into the end zone. Tennessee is a great matchup, so we see him having one of his better weeks an have him as an RB1.

Philadelphia Eagles OG Matt Tobin (concussion) has been cleared to practice and will participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Eagles | Nick Foles throws during warmups    Wed Nov 19, 02:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) did some throwing during warmups Wednesday, Nov. 19, but did not participate in practice.

Footballguys view: There's no word on Foles' timetable right now. If Mark Sanchez performs well, there's no guarantee that Foles would even come back to a starting job. It's a good sign that he's throwing, but it's no indication of how quickly he'll be back on the field. It's a step in the process....but we're still early in that process.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews fully practices     Wed Nov 19, 02:02 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Footballguys view: The connection between Matthews and quarterback Mark Sanchez is real nice for fantasy owners. We like Matthews as a WR2/WR3 with upside.

Eagles | No updates on Nick Foles    Tue Nov 18, 02:01 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone), who cracked his clavicle in Week 8, is expected to miss at least another month, but head coach Chip Kelly said there have been no recent updates on his condition. "No," Kelly said. "He'll get a re-check at some point in time, but they said it's usually three to four weeks out before they ever take another x-ray. So he has not had that done yet." Foles has been working out, but not in game conditions.

Footballguys view: We could see Foles shut down for a month or more. In the meantime, Mark Sanchez will continue as the starter for the Eagles.

Eagles | Jason Kelce struggled with snaps    Tue Nov 18, 02:01 PM

Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce (hernia) had some trouble with snaps in Week 11 after recovering from a sports hernia. "I just think he's been a little more erratic at times, and he has got to be a little more consistent," head coach Chip Kelly said. "I think that the layoff has hurt him a little bit. He will be the first to admit that. So we just need to get more consistent with the snap." Kelce also had his thumb wrapped, but Kelly doesn't think that's the issue.

Eagles | Two QBs work out    Sat Nov 15, 06:29 PM

Free-agent QB Terrelle Pryor (Seahawks) and QB Thaddeus Lewis (Bills) worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, Nov. 15.

Eagles | Zach Ertz's role shrinking    Tue Nov 11, 12:24 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz continued to see his role shrink in Week 10 versus the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 10, as head coach Chip Kelly seems more comfortable with TE Brent Celek because of his blocking skills.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to move on from Ertz until we see more from the young tight end. Celek is the better play from this offense, and that may not change for the rest of the year. Ertz must work on his blocking moving forward.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews has chemistry with new QB    Tue Nov 11, 12:09 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews, who had seven catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 10 win with QB Mark Sanchez starting, developed some nice chemistry with Sanchez in training camp this year. Sanchez may have completed more passes to Mathews than any other player in camp while working with the second-team offense. Sanchez immediately found Matthews for a touchdown when he relieved QB Nick Foles in Week 8 because of an injury, too.

Footballguys view: Matthews has always reminded us of Eric Decker (Jets). Like Decker, Matthews can make tough catches and he runs crisp routes. Matthews is not incredibly athletic, so he will have trouble gaining separation (like Decker) against good slot corners. We love Matthews as a matchup play because of the chemistry with Sanchez.

Eagles | Mark Sanchez excels on Monday night    Tue Nov 11, 11:58 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 10 win over the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 10, in his first start since Dec. 30, 2012. WR Jordan Matthews had 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and RB Darren Sproles had an eight-yard touchdown run and a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Footballguys view: Sanchez's athleticism make him a nice fit for the Chip Kelly system. Defenders now must respect the quarterback's ability to run, and this opens things up for receivers in the offense.

Eagles | Nick Foles out for Week 10    Sat Nov 8, 05:13 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) didn't practice Saturday, Nov. 8, and is out for Week 10.

Footballguys view: It's the Mark Sanchez show and while Sanchez looked OK last week on short notice, Carolina has a week's worth of tape with Sanchez under center with the Eagles to watch. We see Sanchez as a high-end QB2 but there is some risk of Jets Sanchez rearing his ugly head, so be careful.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy practicing    Thu Nov 6, 11:16 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: McCoy should have a good day against the Carolina Panthers, but his single touchdown for the season potentially puts a bit of a shadow on his output for the game. We still like him quite a bit--he's in our top ten RB1s--but we'd like him more if he started to find the end zone.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy out with illness    Wed Nov 5, 02:13 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (illness) missed practice with an illness Wednesday, Nov. 5, but he should be back Thursday, Nov. 6, and ready to go for the team's Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: We're not overly concerned here. Check back to see if McCoy is able to practice fully on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles play on Monday night against the Carolina Panthers.

Eagles | Nick Foles' long-term future cloudy?    Tue Nov 4, 04:47 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles' long-term future with the team was in doubt before he broke his collarbone in Week 9, according to people with knowledge of the team's plan. Foles' inconsistent play this year has 'soured' some in the organization, including general manager Howie Roseman, according to sources. Foles has thrown 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year for a quarterback rating of 81.9. The people that drafted Foles in 2012 are no longer with the team, too. Roseman and his scouts preferred Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins to Foles, but then head coach Andy Reid insisted on Foles.

Footballguys view: Foles is a decent quarterback, but he's always been a bit of an odd fit in the Chip Kelly offense. Usually, Kelly's quarterbacks are incredibly athletic. The threat of a running quarterback makes the entire offense more dangerous. It may sound unusual, but Mark Sanchez has the athleticism that Foles lacks and he could be a better fit. Now, this doesn't mean he'll be more successful in terms of wins or losses....and Sanchez is not a long-term answer for the team.

Eagles | Re-sign Kenjon Barner to practice squad    Tue Nov 4, 02:07 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed RB Kenjon Barner to the team's practice squad Tuesday, Nov. 4. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Barner played for Chip Kelly in college at Oregon. He's a good back to have around on the PS, but only dynasty owners in super deep leagues should be watching him.

Eagles | DeMeco Ryans placed on IR    Mon Nov 3, 05:45 PM

Eagles | Chip Kelly confident in Mark Sanchez    Mon Nov 3, 05:26 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez has all of the tools the team is looking for in a quarterback, according to head coach Chip Kelly. 'He obviously has a big-time arm, he's got an NFL arm, he's got NFL feet, he's really, really smart, he's sharp, great work ethic, very athletic. He had all the things we're looking for in a quarterback,' Kelly said. 'He's a hell of a quarterback and we're excited that we got him.'

Footballguys view: Sanchez played with a lot of emotion in Week 9 after he replaced an injured Nick Foles. We'll see what he does with a full week of preparation as a starter.

Eagles | Nick Foles will not need surgery    Mon Nov 3, 04:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (clavicle) will not need to undergo surgery on his fractured clavicle, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Good news for Foles here. The team hopes Foles will be able to return in around six weeks. In the meantime, we'll see Mark Sanchez as the starter for the Eagles.

Eagles | Nick Foles has cracked collarbone    Mon Nov 3, 01:12 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (clavicle) underwent an MRI Monday, Nov. 3, and has been diagnosed with a cracked clavicle, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

Footballguys view: Aaron Rodgers had a similar injury to his non-throwing arm (like Foles) and missed seven weeks. There's no timetable for Foles' return, but it is likely going to be some time before we see him under center for the Eagles.

Eagles | Zach Ertz sees limited action    Mon Nov 3, 09:43 AM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz played just 24 snaps in Week 9 Sunday, Nov. 2, because the team used a lot of three-receiver sets. TE Brent Celek played 64 snaps to block.

Footballguys view: Ertz has been letting fantasy owners down. It's time to find another backup tight end as we approach the fantasy playoffs. With Mark Sanchez starting at quarterback while Nick Foles is banged up, we need to see what the role is for Ertz going forward before we can recommend him for fantasy owners.

Eagles | Nick Foles has broken collarbone    Sun Nov 2, 10:06 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) suffered a broken collarbone in the Week 9 game against the Houston Texans, a source confirmed Sunday, Nov. 2. An MRI Monday, Nov. 3, will determine how long Foles will be sidelined.

Footballguys view: This could end Foles' fantasy season, and if surgery is necessary, his season, period.

Eagles | Mark Sanchez sharp as replacement    Sun Nov 2, 06:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez threw for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Week 9 against the Houston Texans, coming on for an injured QB Nick Foles (collarbone) in the first quarter. Sanchez also tossed two interceptions in his first action since Dec. 30, 2012, when he was a member of the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: The Chip Kelly offense just might be a plug and play system to create fantasy value in the quarterback. Carolina is not a tough matchup next week, so Sanchez might be a savior for teams looking for a bye week QB or coverage for Foles on the waiver wire. Brady, Luck and Rivers are all on bye next week.

Eagles | Nick Foles has arm in sling    Sun Nov 2, 06:22 PM

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin comes up big again    Sun Nov 2, 04:13 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin posted six receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 9 game against the Houston Texans. He is the first player with back-to-back games of at least 150 receiving yards and multiple touchdown catches since WR Miles Austin (Cowboys) in 2009.

Footballguys view: Maclin has eight scores in eight games, and he has put up numbers no matter who is throwing the ball. He has to be considered a WR1 going into the matchup against Carolina next week.

Eagles | DeMeco Ryans carted off    Sun Nov 2, 03:35 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB DeMeco Ryans (ankle) was carted off the field after suffering an ankle injury in Week 9. He will not return to the game.

Footballguys view: Ryan actually fumbled an interception with no contact from an opponent on the play. Most of the Eagles came out to encourage him when he was put on the cart. The Eagles had lost Mychal Kendricks for a stretch, and now that he is mostly healthy, Casey Matthews will fill in for Ryans and stay on the field with Kendricks.

Eagles | Nick Foles has collarbone injury    Sun Nov 2, 03:21 PM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) is believed to be dealing with a collarbone injury.

Footballguys view: If the collarbone is broken, it could sideline Foles for most or all of the remaining fantasy season. Whether the bone is displaced, requiring surgery, is a big factor here.
