Eagles | Blake Annen works out    Thu Apr 17, 10:39 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles worked out Cincinnati TE Blake Annen recently.

Footballguys view: Blake Annen is a late-round flier guy with decent size. If the Eagles do select him, it would take him a while to get up to speed though.

Eagles | Interested in Ronald Powell    Mon Apr 14, 03:46 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have shown interest in LB Ronald Powell leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft.

Eagles | Tried to land C.J. Spiller    Mon Apr 14, 01:08 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles tried to land Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller before they traded for RB Darren Sproles this offseason, according to two league sources familiar with the situation. However, the Bills weren't interested in trading their running back.

Footballguys view: The Bills kept their best playmaker, and the Eagles were able to find someone who can fit what they want in Sproles. It will be interesting to see how Chip Kelly uses a weapon like Sproles as a receiver in his innovative offense.

Eagles | Made trade offer for Dion Jordan    Mon Apr 14, 12:00 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly offered a second-round draft pick and LB Brandon Graham to the Miami Dolphins for LB Dion Jordan, but were rebuffed, a league source said.

Footballguys view: Graham is not a fit for the team's 3-4 defense. If they can't trade him, the team may just release Graham. He's in the final year of his contract, and Graham has a $3.3 million cap number. There's actually more in dead money left on his deal ($3.4 million) than he'll draw in annual salary this year.

Eagles | Tried to land Dion Jordan    Thu Apr 10, 04:02 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly made a play to trade for Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan roughly two months ago, according to a respected league source. The Eagles are believed to have offered a second-round pick and LB Brandon Graham for Jordan. The Eagles would have picked up the remainder of Jordan's four-year, $20.572 million deal.

Footballguys view: We knew the Eagles weren't quite done with their moves (although they might be now) and we knew the Dolphins were rumored to be looking to dump Jordan. It's enormously premature for the Dolphins to do so, and even more insane given that they moved up for him but the Dolphins never seemed to know what to do with him. The Eagles' offer was generous so perhaps Miami was less eager than reported.

Eagles | Met with Mike Evans    Wed Apr 9, 03:46 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have met with Texas A&M WR Mike Evans this offseason.

Footballguys view: Evans would be a fine fit for the Eagles. Since losing DeSean Jackson in free agency to Washington, the Eagles would have a need at the position. Evans is a huge target with a large wingspan and ability to outjump defenders for the football. His skill set reminds some in the scouting community of Jimmy Graham (Saints). Evans has the speed to take the top off the defense, and he has the size to dominate at the point of the catch.

Eagles | Marqise Lee to visit    Wed Apr 9, 12:05 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to meet with Southern California WR Marqise Lee this week. The team has met with Lee several times this offseason.

Footballguys view: Lee would be an interesting fit for the Eagles. He's a second-round talent who can make tough catches. Lee is a sharp route-runner, but he does body catch too many passes.

The Philadelphia Eagles are meeting with Oklahoma CB Aaron Colvin Monday, April 7.

Eagles | Kelvin Benjamin visiting    Mon Apr 7, 03:57 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are meeting with Florida State WR Kelvin Benjamin Monday, April 7.

Footballguys view: Benjamin is a big-bodied wide receiver with the wingspan to be a fine red-zone target. However, he doesn't know how to use his frame to shield defenders away from the ball. Benjamin also drops too many catches. That being said, he's still likely to be a late first- or early second-round pick.

Eagles | Cody Latimer to visit    Sun Apr 6, 11:10 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to meet with Indiana WR Cody Latimer at some point before the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Latimer is a big possession receiver in the mold of Eric Decker (Jets). He does a good job of using his frame to shield defenders away from the ball and winning at the point of the catch. He's not a burner and may have trouble getting separation at the pro level.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson was not well liked by teammates    Fri Apr 4, 07:09 PM

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson was not very well liked when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and was blatantly insubordinate, according to sources. Jackson cursed out head coach Chip Kelly several times in front of the team and appeared more concerned about his rap label than he was with winning games. One source said the team knew about his ties to gang members, but he was released because of his attitude.

Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall for some time with Jackson. Under Chip Kelly, players must buy "all in" to the philosophy or they will find themselves playing elsewhere.

Philadelphia Eagles LB Jake Knott was suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the leagues policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Eagles | Not meeting with Brandin Cooks    Thu Apr 3, 11:16 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles do not have a formal visit scheduled with Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks at this time.

Footballguys view: That may change as we get closer to the draft. Cooks is a fast receiver who can fight for contested catches. His quickness helps him be incredibly dangerous after the catch. With DeSean Jackson getting released, the Eagles could use another weapon in the passing game.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson was a distraction    Sat Mar 29, 09:15 AM

Free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles) was a distraction to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to two unnamed former teammates.

Footballguys view: Distractions are one thing head coach Chip Kelly won't stand for. Players have to buy "all in" to his system, or they will be shown the door--case in point.

Eagles | Mark Sanchez to be backup    Fri Mar 28, 02:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez will slide into the backup quarterback role ahead of QB Matt Barkley. Barkley will likely be the team's developmental quarterback this year in his second season.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here as that's what Sanchez is. Barkley could see some competition in the form of a rookie selected in the 2014 NFL draft.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson cut    Fri Mar 28, 12:45 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles released WR DeSean Jackson Friday, March 28.

Footballguys view: The Eagles couldn't trade him because of his $12.7 million cap number. Now that he's on the open market, Jackson should be highly coveted by WR-needy teams.

Eagles | Agree to terms with Mark Sanchez    Thu Mar 27, 01:09 PM

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to terms with QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Thursday, March 27. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Matt Barkley has a year over Mark Sanchez in Chip Kelly's offense, so this should tell us how quick a learner both quarterbacks are. The Eagles are probably hoping not to have to use either of them and that Nick Foles is effective and healthy again this year.

Eagles | Expected to sign Mark Sanchez    Thu Mar 27, 01:08 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Thursday, March 27. Terms of the expected agreement have not been disclosed.

Footballguys view: It would be interesting to see Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez in the same OTAs battling for the #2 spot. Barkley has a leg up, having been in Chip Kelly's system a year already. Neither one is likely to have a fantasy impact unless something happens to Nick Foles, but we've seen Sanchez. It will be more informative to get an extended look at Barkley to see if he has more future value.

Eagles | Chip Kelly non-committal on DeSean Jackson    Wed Mar 26, 11:50 AM

After speaking with Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson in a private meeting, head coach Chip Kelly was non-committal as to whether the team will actually trade Jackson this offseason. 'I like DeSean. DeSean did a really nice job for us (last season). But we're always going to do what's best for the organization,' Kelly said. Kelly also said Jackson hasn't approached the team about adding money to his contract.

Footballguys view: At this point, it may be coming down to whether a team will pony up the draft pick compensation that the Eagles are looking for and whether Jackson will restructure his deal to fit under the cap for his new team. Jackson being released seems unlikely unless the Eagles find themselves in a cap bind that does not exist at this moment.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson believes he is staying    Tue Mar 25, 12:10 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson believes he is staying with the team after talking with head coach Chip Kelly. Jackson is calling teammates and telling them he is staying.

Footballguys view: Jackson has been shopped around the league, but there have been no takers. He has a $12.7 million cap number in 2014, and that alone makes him a hard sell. If he stays with the Eagles, Jackson will once again be the lead target in the offense.

Eagles | Have thought about moving DeSean Jackson for a while    Mon Mar 24, 04:14 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles decided that they will move on from WR DeSean Jackson well over a month ago, and it could have been even earlier than that.

Footballguys view: With a $12.7 million cap number in 2014, the writing has been on the wall for some time. Jackson may not be able to be traded because of his contract. The Eagles will exhaust all trade options before releasing him.

Eagles | Could have interest in Terrelle Pryor    Sun Mar 23, 09:29 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles may have interest in Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor if he becomes available this offseason, in the opinion of Geoff Mosher, of CSNPhilly.com

Footballguys view: Pryor's time in Oakland is likely over after the team adding Matt Schaub. Matt McGloin will be the primary backup, and the team may select a quarterback at some point in the draft to develop. Pryor's athleticism would make him an interesting fit in the Chip Kelly offense.

Eagles | Matt Barkley could end up as backup    Sat Mar 22, 09:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Matt Barkley could well end up as the No. 2 quarterback for the team, as the club hasn't really shown real interest in any quarterbacks during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Barkley is a backup-caliber quarterback with little developmental upside. We'll see him compete for (and likely win) the backup quarterback position.

Eagles | G.J. Kinne could emerge as backup    Sat Mar 22, 09:17 PM

Some members of the Philadelphia Eagles feel QB G.J. Kinne could force his way into the backup discussion with a strong offseason.

Footballguys view: Kinne is athletic enough to fit nicely into a Chip Kelly offense. However, he has real limitations as a passer that could prevent him from winning the backup job.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson not expected back    Sat Mar 22, 11:27 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to trade or release WR DeSean Jackson this offseason, according to a source.

Footballguys view: It's only a matter of time before the Eagles do something with Jackson. With a $12.7 million cap number in 2014, Jackson could be difficult to trade.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson not willing to rework deal    Sat Mar 22, 11:20 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson is not interested in restructuring his contract. Jackson is believed to be on the trade block at this point.

Footballguys view: That's not going to help his possibility of getting traded. He's got a $12.7 million cap number in 2014.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson thinks he is done with team    Fri Mar 21, 04:47 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson does not think he will be back with the team in 2014.

Footballguys view: Per Philadelphia beat writers, the Eagles have intensified their efforts to trade Jackson. We'll see if any team wants to take on his $10.7 million cap number in 2014.

Eagles | Source: DeSean Jackson gone    Thu Mar 20, 09:40 AM

A source close to Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson said there's no chance he returns to the Eagles in 2014.

Footballguys view: This isn't a shock. Rumor has it the team is trying to trade him and he's long been the type of player who never stopped agitating for a bigger paycheck no matter how long he had left on his contract. Jackson is talented and would find a new home but no, it's not a shock he's looking to bail.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson told not to worry about rumors    Wed Mar 19, 12:24 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has contacted WR DeSean Jackson and told him not to worry about the trade rumors involving him.

Footballguys view: The trade was never a strong possibility because of Jackson's high salary and likely unwillingness to take a pay cut or structure his deal.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson may not be wanted    Wed Mar 19, 09:09 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles may be shopping WR DeSean Jackson because head coach Chip Kelly doesn't want him around. Kelly has a final say on the 53-man roster, and Jackson has had a couple of dustups with coaches.

Footballguys view: Jackson has been known as a character risk since his days back at Cal. His 10+ million dollar price tag this year will make it hard to move him unless he restructures his deal.

Eagles | Serious about listening on DeSean Jackson    Tue Mar 18, 05:39 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are serious about listening to trade offers for WR DeSean Jackson, and the team is at least seeking a third-round pick and potentially more in return for Jackson. The Eagles have already heard from the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots. Jackson is two years into his five-year, $51 million extension and will make $10.25 million in base salary in 2014.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson unsure of standing with team    Tue Mar 18, 05:06 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson is unsure of his standing with the team after speculation has surfaced about his future with the team. Head coach Chip Kelly has not reached out to Jackson to offer any kind of assurance of his future as of Saturday, March 15.

Footballguys view: Jackson is due 10.5 million this year, and almost 10 million each of the next two years. The Panthers are in such a terrible situation at wide receiver that they might be interested in trading for Jackson, but the Eagles are rumored to want at least a third-round pick. Jackson's fantasy value would go up just about anywhere else, because he'll have to share targets with a lot of other weapons in a run-first offense in Philadelphia.
