Eagles | Nigel Bradham charged with battery    Tue Jul 26, 05:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Nigel Bradham turned himself in to police Monday, July 25, after an incident last week for which he was charged with aggravated battery. Bradham allegedly struck the victim in the nose with a closed fist without being provoked, according to a police report.

Eagles | Sam Bradford likely gone after 2016    Sun Jul 24, 04:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is 'extremely unlikely' to be with the team after the 2016 season has drawn to a close, according to PhillyVoice writer Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: We could see Chase Daniel at some point this year if Bradford fails. Having a lame duck quarterback is not good for a team's competitiveness, so this should be considered a rebuilding year for the Eagles. The quarterback position is unlikely to provide very much fantasy value in Philadelphia this year.

Eagles | Carson Wentz set for heavy preseason load    Sun Jul 24, 04:01 PM

Philadelphia Eagles rookie QB Carson Wentz is expected to see 'a ton' of work in the preseason, according to PhillyVoice writer Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: Wentz should get a lot of work because he will be exposed to a much faster level of play than he saw at North Dakota State. It will be the best indicator of how ready he is for NFL regular season that the Eagles will get before Week 1. If the Eagles have their way, Wentz will sit all season.

Eagles | Connor Barwin could start    Thu Jul 21, 05:46 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Connor Barwin is slated to start at defensive end opposite DE Vinny Curry, according to Phil Sheridan of ESPN.com. DE Brandon Graham could also start instead of Barwin, though. The defensive linemen are expected to rotate frequently no matter who starts.

Footballguys view: Barwin has been solid in his career but the change should suit him in this defense. "I'm excited because in a 3-4, it's a lot of movement," he told Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media. "I'm going to line up, pass rush and be able to work a guy over for an entire game. I'm excited for that." We're excited too, though the rotation will hold him back from putting up solid IDP numbers. He may be no more than a DE4 but we like the upside.

Eagles | Eric Rowe to be No. 2 cornerback?    Thu Jul 21, 05:38 PM

Philadelphia Eagles CB Eric Rowe is projected to be the No. 2 starting cornerback opposite CB Leodis McKelvin, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan. Sheridan also said that it would not be a surprise if CB Nolan Carroll wins the No. 2 cornerback job.

Footballguys view: The Eagles need to improve the secondary and it sounds like they are willing to shift things around if need be. Rowe lost the starting job to Nolan Carroll but when Carroll got hurt, he got another shot and performed. Rowe can play both man and zone though we see a lot of press coming from him this year.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor should start    Thu Jul 21, 05:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is expected to be the No. 2 wider receiver behind WR Jordan Matthews, according to ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan.

Footballguys view: This is heartening given how shaky he was last year. He looked more like a rookie than most rookie WRs do lately. Hopefully he has grasped the playbook and improved his practice efforts, both things which hampered him last season (along with an ankle injury). Right now we see him as a WR5 or WR6, in part because of those struggles and in part because the passing offense (under new head coach Doug Pederson) isn't going to fill the air with footballs.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews not a great fit in offense    Thu Jul 21, 02:58 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews isn't a great fit in head coach Doug Pederson's offense as he wants to move his backs around to create mismatches for opposing defenses in the passing game.

Footballguys view: The continuing legacy of GM/coach Chip Kelly is wonderful for the rest of the NFC East. We'll see how on target Kempski is with this analysis, and still think Mathews could be a solid RB2, in part because the only other potential every down back is rookie Wendell Smallwood. If Mathews does end up a bad fit though, having Smallwood as a handcuff would be smart as he will probably get second crack at Mathews' role.

Eagles | Wendell Smallwood to work on protection    Thu Jul 21, 02:00 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood needs the most work in pass protection, which will be an area the team needs to trust him in to play him in the regular season. He has shown the ability to be a weapon as a receiver.

Footballguys view: If he can do that, he could see a lot more playing time. Many are saying Ryan Mathews is a poor fit for the offensive scheme in Philadelphia, while Smallwood is not only a better fit but is a guy this new regime brought in, unlike Mathews. Right now Matthews is a decent RB2, but this bears watching. Smallwood isn't a guy to roster as more than a handcuff, but his value could rise with a solid camp, especially if Mathews struggles.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor won't be charged    Mon Jul 18, 12:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor will not be charged after the Philadelphia District Attorney's office conducted an investigation into an alleged sexual assault case against the receiver. The office said in a statement that it 'lacked sufficient evidence' to charge Agholor.

Footballguys view: The league could still hand down some discipline just for making 'the shield' look bad, but we think it's unlikely. Agholor had a disappointing rookie season, and he's looking to win the No.2 job over veteran Rueben Randle this year. A high-ankle sprain and trouble grasping the playbook held Agholor back in 2015. We'll see if he can get on track, stay healthy and produce this year.

Eagles | Durability concerns for Ryan Mathews    Sun Jul 17, 11:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews has played in all 16 games in just one of his six NFL seasons, averaging 12 games per year overall.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Mathews is a talented player, but too often he's banged up and missing time during his pro career with the Chargers and the Eagles. With DeMarco Murray getting traded to the Titans, Mathews is the lead back in the new Doug Pederson offense. If healthy, the opportunity is there for Mathews to be a low-end RB2 with upside. His current ADP is RB24 (5.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Carson Wentz likely to be Week 1 inactive    Sun Jul 17, 05:46 PM

Philadelphia Eagles rookie QB Carson Wentz is expected to be inactive for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Wentz is in for a redshirt year this season. That's a good thing for the Eagles as they can then properly develop the talented rookie. Sam Bradford was overpaid this year for a reason--to start while Wentz gets up to speed in the NFL.

Eagles | Stephen Tulloch unlikely to Eagles    Wed Jul 13, 01:13 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent LB Stephen Tulloch (Lions) is unlikely to land with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: It's a bit surprising given Tulloch's history with DC Jim Schwartz and the Eagles need on defense. Tulloch is a two-down thumper who can bring veteran leadership to any team he goes to. Perhaps he'll be able to find a new home sometime during training camp.

Eagles | T.J. Graham could be in or out    Sun Jul 10, 01:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR T.J. Graham is slated to be the Eagles' No. 6 wide receiver, if the Eagles keep six receivers, according to NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Footballguys view: Graham could make the team because of his speed and versatility as a kick returner. We're not expecting much from him--even in dynasty leagues--if he makes the 53-man roster.

Eagles | Rueben Randle the No. 2 receiver?    Sun Jul 10, 01:42 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver behind WR Jordan Matthews, with WR Nelson Agholor listed as the No. 3 receiver, according to NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Footballguys view: Randle is not consistent, and we're not expecting that to change now that he's with the Eagles. The former Giants WR has always had natural talent, but drops, injuries and inconsistencies kept him from playing up to his potential. The Doug Pederson offense isn't going to fill the air with footballs, so Randle is a shaky WR7/WR8 for fantasy owners in 2016.

Eagles | Sam Bradford working out with teammates    Wed Jul 6, 06:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is working out with several of his teammates in San Diego leading up to training camp. QBs Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz, RB Darren Sproles, WR Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, T.J. Graham and Rueben Randle and TE Zach Ertz are among the players participating in the workouts.

Footballguys view: Bradford is doing what he can to build chemistry in this new offense with this group. We're not overly excited by the Doug Pederson offense in Philadelphia, so Bradford should only be considered a QB3 for fantasy owners. He set to be the starter this year as rookie first-round pick Carson Wentz is likely to get a year of development in 2016. However, if Bradford struggles (not a stretch) then we could see the team turn to the rookie sooner than originally planned.

Eagles | Philly may look at Stephen Tulloch    Wed Jul 6, 06:29 PM

Free-agent LB Stephen Tulloch (Lions) could be an option for the Philadelphia Eagles because they do not have many veteran backups behind the starting linebackers.

Footballguys view: The move would make sense for a team like the Eagles. Not only do they have a need for better depth, but Tulloch played for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in the past.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor still dropping balls    Wed Jul 6, 06:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor still dealt with drops during organized team activities. The second-year receiver couldn't hold onto the ball in his rookie season, either.

Footballguys view: This is not the type of report you want coming out of the offseason. Agholor has natural talent and the ability to smoothly get open, but all that doesn't matter if you can't grab the rock. We're not overly excited about the No.2 WR with the Eagles, and fantasy owners are already cool on Agholor. His current ADP is WR65 (14.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Leodis McKelvin likely to be top corner    Wed Jul 6, 07:27 AM

Eagles | Nelson Agholor may be No. 2 WR    Tue Jul 5, 06:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is expected to enter training camp as the No. 2 receiver on the depth chart and the team's top option on the outside. Agholor did struggle with some dropped passes during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Agholor had a disappointing rookie season in 2015, but the talent is there for him to be at least a solid starter for the Eagles. A high-ankle sprain affected his play last year, so Agholor needs to prove that he can stay healthy if he wants to make an impact in the NFL. Agholor can run clean routes and get open with ease, but he needs improved concentration when passes are coming in. As the Eagles No.2 WR, we're not expecting Agholor to be that relevant for fantasy owners.

Eagles | Carson Wentz the No. 3 QB?    Sun Jun 26, 08:03 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz might not even dress on game days, and QB Chase Daniel would likely take over as the starter if QB Sam Bradford goes down, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: Wentz is coming from the FCS level, so the change in the speed of the game will be even more pronounced, and the team is paying Bradford and Daniel a lot of money this year. The Eagles have no incentive to rush Wentz and would be smart to be patient unless both Bradford and Daniel crater.

Eagles | Kenjon Barner on the bubble    Tue Jun 21, 02:10 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner is on the bubble as RB Byron Marshall projects as a younger version of him.

Footballguys view: Both Barner and Marshall played college football at Oregon. Marshall is a 'tweener slot receiver/speed running back who is electric with the ball in his hands. The rookie is coming back from a serious ankle injury that ended his final season for the Ducks after only a few games. We'll see this battle shake out in training camp. Lots of fantasy owners will be dialed into the RB competition behind Ryan Mathews as the starter has a long injury history.

Eagles | Rueben Randle in lead for WR3    Tue Jun 14, 08:46 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is in the early lead for the Eagles' third receiver spot over WR Chris Givens and WR Josh Huff.

Footballguys view: It's not an exciting offense to be the third option in. The Pederson offense should feed one WR and one TE enough to be fantasy relevant. Anything outside of that in the Eagles passing game may not be worth rostering in most standard-sized leagues.

Eagles | Fletcher Cox agrees to new deal    Mon Jun 13, 06:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox agreed to a six-year contract extension Monday, June 13, worth $103 million, according to sources. The deal includes $63 million in guaranteed money, which is the highest guarantee for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

Footballguys view: Cox was entering the last year of his rookie contract, and the Eagles pay him a premium to insure that he stays with the team for the foreseeable future. This guaranteed money is going to make it difficult for the Broncos to sign franchise-tagged Von Miller to a new contract as they have originally offered only $39.8 million in full guarantees. Cox can create interior pressure on opposing QBs and is a key member of the Eagles defense.

Eagles | Running back committee in Philly?    Sun Jun 12, 03:12 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews has taken most of the first-team repetitions out of the backfield this offseason, but RBs Kenjon Barner and Darren Sproles shared those reps with Mathews, too. Head coach Doug Pederson expects a committee with those three backs and RB Wendell Smallwood.

Footballguys view: This is looking like a mess for fantasy owners. Mathews should be the lead back so long as he stays healthy, but he will be splitting time with any number of backs. Sproles should have a change-of-pace role, and his fantasy value increases in PPR leagues. Barner and Smallwood will compete for whatever is leftover in this backfield. Smallwood is getting a lot of hype in certain fantasy circles, but know that as interesting as he is there's no creativity to his rushing style. Yes, the opportunity could be there for him as the team's starter if Mathews gets hurt but don't expect the world in return. He's not the Eagles version of Charcandrick West.

Eagles | Chris Givens holding his own    Sun Jun 12, 02:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens has put in a solid offseason so far and could challenge WRs Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor and Rueben Randle for playing time, according to CSNPhilly's Dave Zangaro. Givens is known for his deep-threat ability, but Zangaro said Givens has also impressed with his underneath routes so far.

Footballguys view: Other than Jordan Matthews, we're not crazy about the Eagles WRs...and it's not like we expect Matthews to burn up the charts. Right now, Matthews has a current ADP of WR25 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll be monitoring Givens vs Huff vs Randle as training camp rolls on later this year.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor under investigation    Fri Jun 10, 07:33 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is under investigation by the Philadelphia police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman Thursday, June 9.

Footballguys view: The police are going to interview Agholor as part of the investigation into this matter. He had a poor rookie season and this isn't going to help his chances of impressing the team. The legal process will run its course, then the league will step in for any added discipline if needed.

Eagles | Josh Huff drops the ball    Fri Jun 10, 11:26 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Josh Huff was listed as one of the disappointments in organized team activities by PhillyVoice.com due to an exorbitant amount of drops.

Footballguys view: Nobody should be surprised by this. Huff was a Chip Kelly favorite (and he played at Oregon, shocking right?) but he's no lock to make the final roster with the Eagles this year. He'll have to cut down on the drops in training camp and the preseason if he wants to make the team.

Eagles | Carson Wentz struggles in practice    Thu Jun 9, 03:31 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz struggled during his red zone series in practice Thursday, June 9, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane. Wentz did complete a touchdown pass during the sequence but was also intercepted in his final throw after zeroing in on his target and over clutching. He had a single completion in four pass attempts.

Footballguys view: It's expected as he is in a brand new offense, with new receivers and he's coming from a far simpler scheme. Wentz might win the starting job, but we still think Sam Bradford is the guy to tap although only as a decent QB3.

Eagles | Darren Sproles happy where he is    Wed Jun 8, 05:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles (personal) missed time this offseason because of a family matter. Sproles said he is content with his current contract and content in Philadelphia.

Footballguys view: Sproles should be back in a change-of-pace role for the Eagles this year. The offense will look different under new head coach Doug Pederson, but Sproles' role should look somewhat similar.

Eagles | Philly quarterbacks should split reps    Wed Jun 8, 03:36 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QBs Sam Bradford, Carson Wentz and Chase Daniel will receive equal repetitions heading into training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson. Pederson said Bradford likely won't take more reps than Wentz and Daniel until late in the preseason when starters usually ramp up their workload.

Footballguys view: What in the world are the Eagles doing? First, they screwed up the QB market by overpaying both Bradford and Daniel. Now, they're going to give them all equal reps? Wow...um, okay Pederson if you say so. It's a new system and a new direction for the Eagles since the franchise struggled under former head coach Chip Kelly. One would assume that a starting QB would get as many first-team reps as possible, but not here....or at least not right now. At least we know that Wentz is the future of the team at the QB position, and he's got the upside to eventually be a top-12 QB in the NFL.

Eagles | Josh Huff to play inside    Wed Jun 8, 03:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Josh Huff is expected to play on the inside of formations, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: It doesn't matter where Huff plays, really. As a former Oregon player, Huff was a favorite of former head coach Chip Kelly. Now that Peterson has taken over, we don't see any fantasy value for Huff as the Eagles WR4 (at best) on the depth chart.

Eagles | Rueben Randle making impact    Tue Jun 7, 11:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is getting a new start after a four-year stay with the New York Giants. The team felt Randle was a loafer and indifferent about football, running poor routes and being late for meetings. It led to benchings during his tenure, despite obvious talent. So far, so good in Philadelphia, as head coach Doug Pederson has liked what he has seen. '(Rueben) has really made an impact this spring,' Pederson said. 'He's a guy that's a big, tall, sort of a smooth receiver that understands what we're asking him to do.'

Footballguys view: Randle needed a fresh start after things went off track during his time with the Giants. We're not blown away by his fantasy potential in a Pederson offense, but he might be able to do enough to fill in during bye weeks as a 'what the heck' flex play.

Eagles | Darren Sproles reports for minicamp    Mon Jun 6, 01:28 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles reported for the start of mandatory minicamp Monday, June 6, after missing all of the organized team activities.

Eagles | Coach sees Jordan Matthews as slot WR    Mon Jun 6, 01:17 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews appears to play better as a slot receiver as opposed to lining up on the outside, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Matthews played as the slot receiver under Chip Kelly, and it seems like that may be his spot now that Pederson has taken over at head coach. He has great hands, and Matthews can cut off his routes with precision on underneath routes. If he does play the slot, that means guys like Nelson Agholor and Rueben Randle will be featured on the outside.

Eagles | Wendell Smallwood's hands impressing    Sun Jun 5, 09:32 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood has a 'gift' for catching the ball, head coach Doug Pederson said.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners could receive their own 'gift' if Ryan Mathews gets hurt once again and the rookie Smallwood takes over as the lead back for the Eagles. Smallwood led the Big 12 in rushing last year, and he's a determined runner who tries to get the most out of every carry. He's not a creative runner and won't break ankles in the open field, but Smallwood does not dance too much in the backfield and is disciplined when following blocks or looking for cutback lanes. He's a name fantasy owners certainly need to follow.

Eagles | Sam Bradford 'outstanding' in OTAs    Fri Jun 3, 10:16 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has been 'outstanding' in organized team activities and remains the No. 1 quarterback, according to head coach Doug Pederson. 'Sam's taking this thing and running with it,' Pederson said.

Footballguys view: Good! We're just glad that Bradford realized that he's Sam Bradford and got back to camp with the team to compete for the starting job--something he's never had to do before. Rookie Carson Wentz could sit and develop for a year if (a BIG if) Bradford stays healthy and impresses.

Eagles | Darren Sproles to arrive next week    Fri Jun 3, 10:14 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles and DT Fletcher Cox are expected to be present at next week's mandatory camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Mandatory minicamp is when all the veterans who have been working out on their own show up. The Eagles RB situation is an interesting one to monitor for fantasy owners. Sproles will play in his usual role, but if Ryan Mathews doesn't stay healthy (a real possibility) then perhaps rookie Wendell Smallwood gets a larger role.

Eagles | Sam Bradford to work out with teammates    Thu Jun 2, 01:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford said he plans to workout with several of the skill players during the first week in July in order to work on their timing leading up to training camp. WRs Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Chris Givens are among the players that will be part of the workouts.

Footballguys view: It's a good step, though Mark Sanchez used to do that with his Jets receivers and it never seemed to help. That said, Bradford is still a shaky QB3 until he 1) has the job for sure and 2) proves he can produce consistently.

Eagles | Coach impressed with Sam Bradford    Thu Jun 2, 01:08 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has been impressing the coaches during offseason workouts, according to quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo. DeFilippo said Bradford is one of the most naturally gifted passers he has seen in a while.

Footballguys view: It seems like DeFilippo is impressed with everyone! It's a party! On a more serious note, it is good to hear Bradford looks sharp given that he was absent from the team just prior to and after the draft when he was trying to force a trade.

Eagles | Carson Wentz ahead of the curve    Thu Jun 2, 12:48 PM

Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo said QB Carson Wentz has exceeded his expectations in terms of playing speed and vision on the field. 'I think there were some things that I thought he would need a little more work with it than he does. He's further along from a seeing-the-field standpoint than I thought he would be. He's further along from a playing speed standpoint than I thought he would be coming from the FCS level. Those are things that I guess you can say I'm pleasantly surprised with, but not shocked,' DeFilippo said.

Footballguys view: Wentz is a sharp guy, and very hardworking, so this is no shock to many of us. Of course, we don't know how high (or low) DeFilippo set the bar to be impressed. We don't know if Wentz will see more than a handful of snaps this season, but there's a real chance he could beat out Sam Bradford this year. We'd avoid starting him in fantasy in that case, as while his upside is high, Wentz is also very raw.

Eagles | Carson Wentz off to fast start    Tue May 31, 05:48 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has displayed an NFL-caliber arm and the ability to make every throw on the route-tree during practice, and beat writer Matt Lombardo believes Wentz seems to be ahead of QB Sam Bradford when it comes to mastering head coach Doug Pederson's offense.

Footballguys view: Nobody should really be surprised by this. Wentz has incredible work ethic and is known as a football junkie. The rookie may win the starting job in Philadelphia in Week 1. To quote Dennis Green, Bradford is who we thought he was....but we won't let him off the hook. Neither can the Eagles as they're on the hook for $22 million in guaranteed money over the next two years for the painfully average veteran QB.

Eagles | Kenjon Barner working with starters    Mon May 30, 05:51 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner has been working with the starters during OTAs with RB Ryan Mathews (groin) slowed by injury and RB Darren Sproles not participating, and beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks believes Barner's edge over Mathews in speed and agility could earn him the starting job permanently.

Footballguys view: This RB situation is one for fantasy owners to keep an eye on. Mathews seems to always be banged up, and behind him is Barner. The speedy back from Oregon has natural instincts for running the ball. However, we're interested about the back behind him in rookie Wendell Smallwood. The fifth-round pick from West Virginia led the Big 12 in rushing last year. When decisive as a runner, he can swiftly get to the second level of the defense. He's not overly creative, and thus may have trouble creating his own space.

Eagles | Philly teammates on board with Sam Bradford    Fri May 27, 02:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles FS Malcolm Jenkins said the Eagles aren't harboring any ill feelings toward QB Sam Bradford after he skipped the start of the offseason program and demanded a trade. 'But I think right now, barring anything crazy or anything changing over the next few months, I think everybody is very comfortable with Sam and looking forward to him falling into that role,' Jenkins said.

Footballguys view: What else are they going to say? Publicly they can stand by him, but privately you have to wonder if teammates are mad about a guy who has never really had to compete in the NFL complaining about now having to do so. The Eagles could sit Carson Wentz for his entire rookie season, but we think he's the better QB and could step into the starting lineup if (when?) Bradford struggles.
