Eagles | Corey Clement optimistic about opener    Tue Apr 16, 09:04 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement (knee) has no timetable for when he will be able to practice, but he is confident he will be ready for Week 1 of the 2019 regular season.

Footballguys view: Clement's knee injury is not an ACL and was categorized as 'just' a sprain last year when the Eagles put him on Injured Reserve. The Eagles traded for Jordan Howard earlier this offseason and Clement (when he returns around training camp) will have to work his way through an even more cramped backfield.

Eagles | Carson Wentz intends to be ready for OTAs    Mon Apr 15, 02:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) told reporters Monday, April 15, that while he feels good about his recovery, the stress fracture in his back is still not fully healed. He added his goal is to be ready for OTAs.

Footballguys view: Even if he is ready by OTAs, the Eagles need to take it easy with their franchise quarterback. They no longer has the luxury of having Nick Foles on the bench behind Wentz. That backup role is now Nate Sudfeld...and while we like Sudfeld's natural ability he is certainly unproven as a pro. Wentz should be eased into action this offseason with a plan to have him at full participation in training camp.

Eagles | Josh Adams to miss start of offseason    Mon Apr 15, 11:40 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Josh Adams (shoulder) will miss the start of offseason workouts due to recovery from shoulder surgery.

Footballguys view: He underwent surgery on his labrum in January and has a six-month timetable. Adams has a jam-packed depth chart to work his way through when healthy. The Eagles traded for Jordan Howard this offseason and may take another running back in the 2019 NFL draft.

Eagles | Nate Sudfeld signs tender    Mon Apr 15, 08:51 AM

Philadelphia Eagles restricted free-agent QB Nate Sudfeld signed his second-round tender Monday, April 15.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld is now the primary backup to Carson Wentz with Nick Foles moving on in free agency. He's a tall pocket passer who has been developing in the pros ever since Washington made him a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft. We like him in dynasty formats and might see him this season if Wentz continues to struggle with the injury bug.

Eagles | Zach Ertz restructures deal    Fri Apr 12, 11:42 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz had $7.195 million of his salary converted into a bonus in order to create $5.756 million of cap space for the 2019 season, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Ertz is under contract through the 2021 season. He'll be the top tight end for the Eagles, although we'd like to see some more Dallas Goedert in 2019. We'd also like to see Carson Wentz stay healthy for a full season, but that's for another 'Footballguys View.'

Eagles | Philly to meet with Jalen Hurd    Thu Apr 11, 05:11 PM

Baylor WR Jalen Hurd is scheduled to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2019 NFL Draft, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Hurd is a big and physical player with the athleticism to damage a defense after the catch. He's used as a big slot and also at a running back, measuring in at 6'5" 226 pounds. Hurd had a procedure on his knee in December and is likely a sixth- or seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

Eagles | Philly adding Charles Johnson, Greg Ward    Tue Apr 9, 12:57 PM

Free-agent WRs Charles Johnson (AAF) and Greg Ward (AAF) signed one-year deals with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Johnson has flashed in the NFL before but he's a long shot to make the Eagles 53-man roster. He led the AAF in receiving yards and will try to build on that momentum with the Eagles.

Eagles | PHI hosting two    Tue Apr 9, 10:40 AM

University of Houston DT Ed Oliver and Ohio State WR Paris Campbell are visiting the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Campbell is seen as a late first- or early second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. Oliver is considered one of the top players in this draft but may fall a bit in the first round due to perceived attitude issues. Campbell is a dynamic player who can scare a defense with his speed on jet sweeps and short catches he can turn into long gains.

Eagles | Philly adding Luis Perez    Mon Apr 8, 09:52 PM

Free-agent QB Luis Perez (Rams) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 8, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Perez flashed some ability with the Birmingham Iron in the AAF earlier this year. Undrafted out of Texas A&M-Commerce in 2018, Perez spent most of last offseason and training camp with the Rams. He was signed to the practice squad after the preseason but only lasted a couple of weeks with the Rams after that. The Eagles lost Nick Foles (Jaguars) in free agency and only have Nate Sudfeld to backup Carson Wentz.

He was signed to the practice squad after the preseason but only lasted a couple of weeks with the Rams after that.   Eagles | Jordan Howard fine on shotgun runs    Fri Mar 29, 12:25 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jordan Howard has been knocked for a perceived deficiency on runs out of the shotgun formation, but 2018's stats don't back that up. Last season, Howard rushed 138 times for 570 yards (4.13 yards per carry) out of the shotgun and ran 111 times for 364 yards (3.28 ypc) when the quarterback was under center.

Eagles | Carson Wentz could receive extension    Mon Mar 25, 08:48 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is a player the Eagles would like to sign to a contract extension at some point, according to general manager Howie Roseman.

Footballguys view: Wentz has not played a full season since 2016, so the team may want to see him do that in 2019 before making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. The Eagles have Wentz under contract for two more seasons and the franchise tag after that if it comes to that. We could see an extension for him in the next year or so.

Free-agent RB Jay Ajayi (Eagles) has kept in contact with the Philadelphia Eagles despite having a good meeting with the Indianapolis Colts recently.

Eagles | Mack Hollins, Shelton Gibson competing    Sun Mar 17, 08:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mack Hollins and WR Shelton Gibson are likely competing for one roster spot after the addition of WR DeSean Jackson, in the opinion of Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP Radio.

Footballguys view: We'd give a slight edge to Hollins but this competition will have to play out in training camp. Hollins, a fourth-round pick out of North Carolina in the 2017 NFL draft, flashed as a rookie in 2017 but spent all of 2018 on Injured Reserve with a groin injury. Gibson, a fifth-round pick out of West Virginia in the 2017 NFL draft, has speed to burn but only has three catches in two seasons as a pro.

Eagles | Braxton Miller not on Philly's plans?    Sun Mar 17, 08:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Braxton Miller is considered a 'long shot' to make the roster, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP Radio.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Miller is one of five receivers on a reserve/futures contract with the Eagles. A third-round pick for the Texans out of Ohio State in 2016, Miller has struggled to impress during his pro career. He's athletic and has some speed but has not put it all together as a receiver to this point.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson happy to be back in Philly    Sun Mar 17, 02:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson said Thursday, March 14, is 'excited' about re-signing with the team and blamed his 2014 offseason release on former Eagles coach Chip Kelly, not general manager Howie Roseman. 'One thing I can say about Howie Roseman, we always had a great relationship,' Jackson said. 'Even when I went on and played in Washington and played in Tampa Bay, anytime I was able to see him on the field pregame, he always came up and just gave me a hug. Once again, it was a bittersweet situation. We all know how I was released.'

Footballguys view: Jackson knows the city from his time playing with the Eagles from 2008-2013. He's still got speed and that should be utilized to spread the field vertically for QB Carson Wentz. In 12 games last year for the Buccaneers, Jackson caught 41 passes for 774 yards and four touchdowns. He's got WR3 potential for Fantasy GMs now that he's back with the Eagles.

Eagles | Chris Long has contract restructured    Sat Mar 16, 10:45 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles have restructured the contract of DL Chris Long, even though he has not made a decision about whether he will continue playing. He was scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus but it has been moved until after the draft because he was uncomfortable accepting it due to his uncertain future, according to an NFL source. Long has one year left on his current contract and would earn a base salary of $3.5 million in 2019, with a salary cap hit of $5.6 million.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor expected to stay in Philly    Mon Mar 11, 10:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is expected to remain with the Eagles and may not receive a new contract, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Eagles traded for DeSean Jackson to get him back in the fold on Monday. He's going to be their deep threat and Alshon Jeffery is going to be the no.1 wide receiver. There's room for Agholor and it sounds like he's not going anywhere for 2019. He's playing on the fifth-year option in 2019 with a price tag of $9.3 million.

Eagles | Nate Sudfeld to receive middle tender    Mon Mar 11, 08:15 PM

Footballguys view: Sudfeld, a sixth-round pick for Washington in the 2016 NFL draft, is likely to stay with the Eagles as the primary backup to Carson Wentz now that Nick Foles has signed with the Jaguars. He's a tall pocket passer with a big arm who we've been monitoring closely in deep dynasty formats.

Eagles | Philadelphia in play for Antonio Brown?    Sat Mar 9, 06:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown has been linked to the Philadelphia Eagles in regards to a potential trade, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. The main hindrance for a Brown trade seems to be related to his contract.

Footballguys view: Brown's contract is quite acceptable right now, but he wants a raise. That could be leading teams interested in Brown to reconsider adding the superstar receiver.

Philadelphia Eagles DE Michael Bennett was reportedly traded along with a 2020 seventh-round pick to the New England Patriots on Friday, March 8, in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round selection.

Free-agent RB Tevin Coleman (Falcons) will be squarely on the radar of the Philadelphia Eagles when free agency opens, according to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, who adds the Eagles will have company when it comes to competing for his services.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have a clustered backfield right now and that may not be attractive for Coleman. He may want to get a chance to be a featured runner for his next NFL team. We'll see if the Eagles can outbid other teams (Denver?) for his services.

Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson formally interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles at the NFL Combine. Anderson didn't run at the Combine and won't run at his Pro Day as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Anderson's college career at Oklahoma can be summed up by the saying 'what might have been.' Injuries in multiple seasons derailed what was looking to be a promising time with the Sooners. He's flashed enough power and ability at 220 pounds to get interest as a fourth-round pick if his medical tests are positive.
