Eagles | Marken Michel making noise    Sun Jun 16, 11:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Marken Michel has spent some time with the first-team offense during spring practices and has shown the ability to stretch the field, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Michel is the older brother of Patriots second-year running back Sony Michel, and he's got quite an athletic profile. The Eagles were able to sign Michel after he spent two seasons in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders. During his college career at UMASS, Michel worked primarily as a wide receiver but did also play some running back and on special teams. Undrafted out of UMASS in 2016, Michel signed with the Vikings but did not make the 53-man roster as a rookie. We'll keep an eye on him in crazy deep dynasty formats.

Eagles | JJ Arcega-Whiteside the No. 4 option?    Sun Jun 16, 08:55 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside is the clear No. 4 receiver, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com, and Rosenblatt believes Arcega-Whiteside has 'potentially elite' ability in the red zone.

Footballguys view: The rookie from Stanford should be in line for that No. 4 job with the Eagles behind Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson and Nelson Agholor. His 'my ball mentalilty' helps Arcega-Whiteside bring down contested passes regularly...making him a great option when space is tight near pay dirt. We'll monitor him closely in dynasty formats and likely throw him in as a cheap boom/bust DFS play from time to time in 2019.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson embracing leadership role    Sun Jun 16, 03:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has been embracing his role as a veteran and leader this offseason, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com. The 32-year-old was present for all but one session of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) practices. 'He's done everything we've asked him to do,' receivers coach Carson Walch said. 'He's been great in the meeting room. Some of our young guys sometimes are in awe seeing DeSean Jackson in our building.'

Footballguys view: Jackson was a fantasy WR1 with Ryan Fitzpatrick last year, but it seems the fantasy community is still underestimating him. He has reportedly already developed excellent chemistry with Wentz and should be drafted a lot earlier than he is lasting right now.

Eagles | Philly will take it slow with Miles Sanders    Sun Jun 16, 03:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles rookie RB Miles Sanders will be brought along slowly in training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson, after missing all of organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp due to a hamstring injury. 'I fully expect him to come in ready, come in healthy, ready to go,' Pederson said. 'We have to get him in the mix early. Definitely have to see exactly where he is mentally from all the mental reps that he took this spring, and slowly work him into the mix and see just how he can help us on game day.'

Footballguys view: Sanders redraft stock has been hurt by his inability to practice and Jordan Howard's chances for relevance early in the season have gone up in direct proportion. Sanders may matter by the end of the season via injury to another Eagles back, pure talent, or the efficiency of the offense, but Howard might be the better redraft pick right now.

Philadelphia Eagles CB Jalen Mills (foot) did not do much during offseason workouts because he is still recovering from a foot injury.

Eagles | Miles Sanders likely for camp    Thu Jun 13, 09:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday, June 13.

Footballguys view: This missed time could still impact Sanders role at the beginning of the season. The team indicated that they will evaluate how much Sanders can handle initially in camp. If he can't stay on the field then, Jordan Howard may have value above his discount ADP long into the season.

Eagles | Dallas Goedert ready to be a star?    Thu Jun 13, 06:26 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert has looked ready to make a second-year leap into stardom in 2019, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Footballguys view: Goedert has a red zone primed skillset and he is in a good offense. If he can have a consistent 3-4 target floor every week, that could be enough to make him a TE1 this year. He's still cheaper than he should be in redraft and dynasty.

Eagles | Chemistry between QB, DeSean Jackson on point    Thu Jun 13, 05:33 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has reportedly built a strong connection and sense of timing with QB Carson Wentz throughout the spring, according to Mike Kaye of NJ.com.

Footballguys view: These type of reports have been a steady drumbeat this offseason. Jackson can still be a deep threat and we know Wentz has no problem trusting his receivers on field-flipping plays. He could easily outplay his current ADP of WR49 (11.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery participates in practice    Wed Jun 12, 11:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (wrist) was able to participate in practice Wednesday, June 12. He had been dealing with a wrist ailment.

Footballguys view: Jeffery is trending in the right direction here. If healthy, Jeffery is going to be a big part of the Eagles passing attack. Even though QB Carson Wentz spreads the ball around, the trust with Jeffery is there. If Jeffery is a touchdown hog in 2019, he could outperform his current ADP of WR29 (6.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Derek Barnett may be ready for camp    Wed Jun 12, 04:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Derek Barnett (shoulder) hopefully will be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Barnett made it through six games in 2018 before this shoulder injury (and surgery) forced him out of the lineup. He's a talented player when healthy and a boost for the Eagles pass rush. We'll see if he can get out there at the start of camp later this summer.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor dealing with injury    Wed Jun 12, 04:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor (undisclosed) is not practicing because of a lower-body injury but should be ready for training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: This is minor but still not good news for a player who was reportedly on the trading block earlier this offseason. We'll see if he can get healthy, stay healthy and impress enough to make the 53-man roster in the jam-packed Eagles WR corps.

Eagles | JJ Arcega-Whiteside making good impression    Tue Jun 11, 04:39 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside has enjoyed a 'pretty strong offseason program,' in the opinion of NJ.com's Mike Kaye.

Footballguys view: One common theme coming out of Eagles camp (when it's not about DeSean Jackson tearing it up) is about the rookie Arcega-Whiteside. Usually these reports indicate that Arcega-Whiteside is standing out in the red zone. We've heard that Carson Wentz and Nate Sudfeld have no fear targeting the rookie wideout in tight windows. The Eagles have a jam-packed WR corps, so we'll have to see if Arcega-Whiteside can carve out a role in training camp and the preseason.

Eagles | Miles Sanders sidelined with injury    Tue Jun 11, 01:08 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) will be held out of the team's mandatory minicamp this week due to a lingering hamstring injury, head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday, June 11.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Sanders has missed all of the Eagles offseason workouts, voluntary or mandatory, due to his hamstring injury. The injury was called 'minor' at first but it seems to be a little more than that. We'll see if the rookie can get healthy, stay healthy and perform as a change-of-pace back for the Eagles behind Jordan Howard.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson may be returner    Mon Jun 10, 07:14 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson is a top candidate for the punt returner job this season, according to special teams coordinator Dave Fipp.

Footballguys view: An added bonus for those playing in leagues that reward points for return yards and touchdowns. Jackson is already getting plenty of positive buzz this offseason as he reunites with the Eagles in 2019. He's currently going off the board at WR51 (11.06) in 12-team PPR leagues. Jackson should be able to outperform that ADP if he stays healthy and produces at the expected level.

Eagles | More Carson Wentz deal    Fri Jun 7, 08:13 AM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's four-year, $128 million extension includes $128 million guaranteed at signing and $107.9 million total guaranteed.

Footballguys view: This is a full commitment to Wentz at market value despite his numerous injuries at this early juncture in his career. The Eagles will avoid any franchise tag drama and otherwise have done right by Wentz, but if he misses significant time again this year, it might end up being an unwise investment. This deal sets the floor for what Dak Prescott can ask for from Dallas.

Eagles | Carson Wentz signs extension    Thu Jun 6, 07:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz signed a four-year contract extension with the Eagles Thursday, June 6, that will run through the 2024 season. It's a four-year, $128 million extension.

Footballguys view: With everything added up, Wentz now has a six-year, $154 million contract with over $107 million in guarantees. The Eagles clearly aren't concerned about the injury woes that have hampered Wentz over the last two seasons. He's healthy now, and the Eagles hope with this investment that he looks like a perennial Pro Bowl quarterback and leader of the franchise.

Eagles | Miles Sanders still sidelined    Mon Jun 3, 07:27 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, June 3.

Footballguys view: It will be news when Sanders actually participates as he's missed all of OTAs with what they called a minor hamstring injury. Sanders has talent and can work as the change-of-pace/receiving back in a RBBC with Jordan Howard in 2019.

Eagles | Carson Wentz sharp in spring practices    Mon Jun 3, 03:01 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is 'locked in potentially to a return to MVP form,' according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Head coach Doug Pederson echoed similar sentiments with reporters recently as well.

Footballguys view: Nobody will question his talent, but Wentz has to stay healthy this year in order to play up to his potential. He's only played a full 16-game season once in the NFL, and that was during his rookie season in 2016. Since then, Wentz has battled various injuries and missed time. The Eagles offense features a ton of weapons, so Wentz should have no problem getting the ball into playmaker's hands. He's QB9 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

Eagles | Mack Hollins should be ready for camp    Mon Jun 3, 02:53 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mack Hollins (sports hernia) is reportedly 'progressing well,' and head coach Doug Pederson recently said he expects Hollins to be able to practice at the start of training camp in late July - nearly 18 months after undergoing sports hernia surgery.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Hollins game does have promise because of his size/speed combination. The recovery from this injury has taken way too long based on standard recovery time, but it will be good to see Hollins back out there. He's a deep threat who could struggle for snaps behind DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor.

Eagles | Miles Sanders out of action    Wed May 29, 08:29 AM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) has missed time in organized team activities due to a strained hamstring, but it's not considered serious.

Footballguys view: It's not serious but Sanders has yet to participate in OTAs. We like the rookie's upside as a change-of-pace back working with Jordan Howard in a RBBC this year. Fantasy GMs are currently taking Sanders (RB30, 6.05) over Howard (RB37, 8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Four RBs for one spot in Philly?    Wed May 29, 02:48 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RBs Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, Boston Scott and Donnel Pumphrey are likely competing for the team's fourth and final backfield spot, in the opinion of NJ.com's Mike Kaye. The three likely locks are RBs Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders and Corey Clement.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have an interesting mix of the four backs likely competing for one spot. Adams is your classic banger who got some work for them last year down the stretch. Smallwood has the experience edge and is an all-purpose back who can be used as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We'll see how this competition shakes out in training camp.

Eagles | Miles Sanders not practicing    Tue May 28, 02:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (undisclosed) reportedly has yet to participate in organized team activities, according to Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Footballguys view: The rookie from Penn State is an exciting prospect we're monitoring in dynasty formats. We'd be more excited if he was out there learning the Eagles offense. The second-round pick can work well in a RBBC with Jordan Howard in 2019. We're looking forward to seeing his progress in training camp and the preseason.

Eagles | Devin Ross lands in Philly    Tue May 28, 12:33 PM

Free-agent WR Devin Ross (Titans) signed Tuesday, May 28, with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: Ross came out of the University of Colorado in 2018 as an undrafted free agent for the Titans. He spent most of 2018 on the Titans practice squad but signed a futures contract earlier this year. He was released by the Titans just a couple of weeks ago and now finds a new chance with the Eagles. He'll serve as a camp body for the Eagles and is a long-shot to make the roster. Perhaps he can impress enough to be named to the practice squad.

Eagles | Mack Hollins still sidelined    Fri May 24, 09:26 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mack Hollins (groin) is still unable to practice and doesn't have a timetable for his return, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Hollins is on the roster bubble after the team spent a fourth round pick on him in 2017. Special teams contributions are going to be crucial, and he might be pushed by Braxton Miller for a roster spot.

Eagles | Dallas Goedert ready for more    Thu May 23, 10:04 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert said his second season in the NFL has been easier than his rookie year. 'Now I can just focus on things I want to get better at rather than learning the playbook,' Goedert said.

Footballguys view: We're ready for Goedert to do more too. His landing spot prevented him from having an impact as a rookie in 2018, but the natural talent as a pass-catching weapon is there. Zach Ertz is the top tight end for the Eagles, but we're hoping that Goedert is mixed in a bit more this season. He's a TE2 with upside and potentially a top-10 fantasy tight end if Ertz misses time.

Eagles | Carson Wentz has no limitations    Tue May 21, 10:55 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) has no limitations in organized team activities, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Eagles here. The team is going to be cautious with Wentz but he's going to be involved in most of the work the team does in OTAs and minicamp. Now, we'll see if the Eagles can get something done on a contract extension for their franchise quarterback.

Eagles | No limits on Carson Wentz during OTAs    Mon May 20, 04:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is reportedly progressing well from his back injury and will not be limited for on-field drills during organized team activities beginning Tuesday, May 21. While the team will be cautious with him, he is expected to be involved in the majority of all work, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Eagles here. Wentz is in line for a new contract, although the team does control his rights through the 2020 season due to the fifth-year option for the 2016 first-round pick. He needs to stay healthy and that's about it for Wentz. He's a proven player who looks like a fine starter when healthy, but injuries have shortened each of the last two seasons.

Eagles | Chris Long announces retirement    Sat May 18, 09:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DL Chris Long announced his retirement from the NFL Saturday, May 18.

Footballguys view: This move was expected by Long at some point this offseason. He finishes his 11-year career as a two-time Super Bowl Champion (Patriots, Eagles) with 70 sacks and 15 forced fumbles in 162 games. Long was a solid player on the field but a spectacular ambassador for the league and a great man off the field.

Eagles | Philly starts talks with Carson Wentz    Sat May 18, 07:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has started contract extension talks with the Eagles, but the two sides are not close to an agreement at this point.

Footballguys view: There's not a big hurry here. The Eagles have Wentz under contract through the 2020 season with the fifth-year option the 2016 first-round pick had picked up by the team. Wentz needs to stay healthy and that's about it. When healthy, the young quarterback has the upside to be one of the best in the game. If he plays well for a full season in 2019, Wentz's price is only going to go up.

Eagles | Cody Kessler to call Philadelphia home    Mon May 13, 04:33 PM

Free-agent QB Cody Kessler (Jaguars) signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, May 13. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. The Eagles also waived QB Luis Perez.

Footballguys view: Kessler has starting experience that could prove to be valuable to the Eagles. They currently have Nate Sudfeld and rookie Clayton Thorson competing for the backup job to Carson Wentz. While Wentz continues to recover from his back injury, these three passers will compete in camp.

Eagles | Cody Kessler set to sign with Philly    Sun May 12, 12:49 PM

Free-agent QB Cody Kessler (Jaguars) is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, May 13, a source reported Sunday, May 12.

Footballguys view: Kessler will be a lot cheaper than Nate Sudfeld even though he'll be new to the Eagles system. He could make the team as a third quarterback if the team isn't completely sold on Sudfeld to back up the oft-injured Carson Wentz.

Eagles | Miles Sanders the top back in Philly?    Fri May 10, 11:14 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders 'has a chance to emerge as the most valuable piece' of the Philadelphia backfield, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have been employing a backfield committee under Doug Pederson, but they have never had a back of Sanders' physical abilities. He could surprise in redraft leagues, but almost also requires a top 3-4 rookie pick in dynasty leagues.

Eagles | Philadelphia adds 11 UDFAs    Fri May 10, 06:04 PM

Undrafted free-agents LB Joey Alfieri (Stanford), OT Ryan Bates (Penn State), LB T.J. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Bates has a decent chance to make the team as a backup guard and many had him rated as a draftable player. The same goes for Edwards, who could provide needed linebacker depth.

Eagles | Philly signs three draft picks    Fri May 10, 05:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles second-round draft choice WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside, fourth-round draft choice DE Shareef Miller and fifth-round draft choice QB Clayton Thorson signed four-year contracts with the Eagles Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Arcega-Whiteside might not see much playing time this year with Nelson Agholor still on the roster, but if Alshon Jeffery or DeSean Jackson get hurt, he'll get on the field and should mesh well with Carson Wentz's penchant for throwing downfield. He'll be on our waiver wire watch list unless the Eagles suffer injuries at wide receiver in the preseason.

Eagles | Miles Sanders under contract    Fri May 10, 05:53 PM

Philadelphia Eagles second-round draft choice RB Miles Sanders signed a four-year contract with the Eagles Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Sanders has a chance to make the Eagles tear up their previous RBBC gameplans under Doug Pederson, especially considering the premium pick they gave up to get him. Sanders is a quality all-around back with plus tools who has a lot of tread left on the tires after backing up Saquon Barkley for the majority of his time at Penn State. He could be a big impact player in redraft leagues too.
