Eagles | Zach Ertz to play more in 2015?    Mon Jan 26, 09:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz ranked ninth among tight ends in 2014 with 293 receiving yards out of the slot, but PhillyMag.com's Sheil Kapadia believes Ertz could see more time in the slot next year if WR Jordan Matthews spends more time outside.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews' role to expand?    Mon Jan 26, 08:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews played 65% of the offensive snaps and ran 92.4% of his routes from the slot in 2014, per Pro FootballFocus.com. That was the role Eagles head coach Chip Kelly envisioned him in when the club drafted him last year. However, according to PhillyMag.com's Sheil Kapadia, the team could benefit from expanding Matthews' role by playing him outside more in two-wide receiver sets while keeping in him in the slot when the Eagles use three or more wide receivers.

Eagles | Teammate endorses Nick Foles    Sat Jan 17, 10:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is the leader of the team and is capable of leading the team to the playoffs, RB LeSean McCoy said Friday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: That's great and all, but the team might feel differently about Foles. He's always been an odd fit for Chip Kelly's system. We would rather see the Eagles get a more athletic quarterback to properly run that offense. There is buzz in the draft community about the Eagles having interest in UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley.

Eagles | Eight signed to Futures contracts    Tue Dec 30, 07:30 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles signed OG Josh Andrews, RB Kenjon Barner, OT Kevin Graf, DT Wade Keliikipi, QB G.J. Kinne, WR Will Murphy, WR Quron Pratt and S Ed Reynolds to Reserve/Futures contracts Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Footballguys view: Couple of players we'd monitor here in super super deep dynasty leagues. First, Barner at running back--the former Oregon star knows the Chip Kelly system. Barner has the speed and receiving ability to be a weapon in that offense. Second, Kinne at quarterback. Sure, he's a longshot but Kinne is a mobile passer who is an interesting fit for that system.

Eagles | Chip Kelly hopes Jeremy Maclin returns    Mon Dec 29, 04:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but head coach Chip Kelly said he hopes the Eagles will be able to re-sign Maclin.

Footballguys view: Maclin has the deep speed this offense needs to stretch the field. With his injury history, we can't imagine the market being white hot for Maclin's services.

Eagles | Nick Foles expects to be starter    Mon Dec 29, 12:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles expects to return as the starting quarterback next season. 'I expect to be back here,' Foles said. 'I expect to be the quarterback. I love my teammates and I expect to be back out there leading them and winning some games. I'm excited to come back better than I ever have been.' Head coach Chip Kelly won't commit yet to Foles as the starting quarterback heading into the offseason. Foles broke his collarbone Nov. 2 and missed the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: It's good that he expects to be the starter, but that may not be the case. Foles was always a bit of an odd fit for the Eagles offense. He's not as good of a rusher as the team would like at the position. Foles could certainly return as the team's starter in 2015, but we could also see the Eagles make a move at the position....stay tuned.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught 8 passes for 105 yards and 1 touchdown catch in Week 17 against the New York Giants. Matthews completed the year with 67 receptions, 872 yards and 8 touchdown receptions.

Footballguys view: Matthews fantasy stock was boosted with the installation of Mark Sanchez at quarterback, but his role should grow next year no matter who the Eagles quarterback is.

Eagles | Nick Foles not guaranteed spot    Thu Dec 25, 10:10 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles isn't guaranteed to return as the starting quarterback next season, as head coach Chip Kelly said he would evaluate the position in the offseason.

Footballguys view: Foles has always been an odd fit for the Kelly offense. We'll see if the Eagles make a move to add another potential starter this offseason. Kelly said a decision would be made based on what he has seen to date, rather than what could come to fruition in the future.

Eagles | Mark Sanchez wants to stay in Philly    Thu Dec 25, 02:27 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez indicated he would like to stay with the Eagles for the 2015 season, but he would not say whether he would accept a backup spot.

Footballguys view: Sanchez has looked okay working under head coach Chip Kelly. He's best fit as a backup QB, but he may want to try for a starting job elsewhere if it doesn't look like he'll be the starter in Philadelphia.

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin wants to stay in Philly    Tue Dec 23, 04:27 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin wants to remain with the team, although he's set to be a free agent next season. 'This is a great place to be,' Maclin said. 'Everything that (owner Jeff) Lurie or Howie (Roseman, the GM) and Chip (Kelly, the head coach) has ever told me has always been true. Why wouldn't I want to be here? This is the place that drafted me. I want to end my career here. If we can get something worked out when the time is right, that's what will happen.'

Footballguys view: We can't imagine the market being white hot for Maclin's services. He'll attract some attention, but his injury history will turn some teams away. There's a good chance that Maclin could stay in Philadelphia next season and beyond.

Eagles | Nick Foles will miss Week 17    Mon Dec 22, 01:08 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) has been ruled out for the team's Week 17 game.

Footballguys view: We will see Mark Sanchez as the team's starter once again in Week 17. Having been eliminated from the playoffs, we could see a QB change for the Eagles next season. Foles is entering the final year of his contract in 2015.

Eagles | Mark Sanchez to start finale    Mon Dec 22, 08:35 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez will start in Week 17 against the New York Giants instead of QB Matt Barkley, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

Footballguys view: Sanchez had a good fantasy day in Week 16, throwing for 374 yards and two touchdowns. However, the loss against Washington knocked the Eagles out of playoff contention.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper had five catches for 53 yards, including touchdown catches of three and 16 yards, in a 27-24 loss to the Washington Redskins Saturday, Dec. 20.

Eagles | Zach Ertz with career game    Sat Dec 20, 07:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz had 15 catches for 115 yards Saturday, Dec. 20. Both of which are career highs.

Footballguys view: Washington was trying to slow down Jordan Matthews and Jeremy Maclin. They failed to cover Ertz adequately. Fantasy owners who started Ertz in PPR leagues came up huge today.

LB Emmanuel Acho (groin), DT Beau Allen (shoulder), DE Brandon Bair (knee), DT Bennie Logan (pectoral), FS Chris Maragos (hamstring) and RB Chris Polk (ankle) fully participated in practice and are listed as probable.

Footballguys view: Cole being out gives Brandon Graham a full time role just in time for IDP league finals. He has been very productive in limited duty and Washington is a terrific matchup for pass rushers.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews fully practices     Thu Dec 18, 01:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) fully practiced Thursday, Dec. 18.

Footballguys view: Matthews has been inconsistent over the last month and a half, with a decreasing amount of targets over the last four games, culminating with just one against Dallas last week. We see him as a WR3, though a very boom or bust prospect and it's hard to have faith in him during a championship week, so if you have a more consistent option, take it.

Eagles | Chris Polk the goal-line back?    Thu Dec 18, 01:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk appears to have become the team's goal-line back of late, and two of the three snaps he played in Week 15 led to short rushing touchdowns. On another snap inside the five-yard line, RB Darren Sproles took the ball for a TD. The Eagles have struggled in the red zone this year, and they think Polk's size and power gives him an advantage at the goal line. "Some of the short-yardage stuff, Polk's obviously a little bit more powerful back, so they've been giving him some of the runs in short-yardage in a couple games, especially last game," RB LeSean McCoy said. McCoy has 10 carries inside the five-yard line this year and has three touchdowns.

Footballguys view: McCoy has been unimpressive much of this season and after back to back 100 yard games in Weeks 12 and 13, he's back below 70 for two straight games. As he's only seen 4 touchdowns this year, it's not s shock Polk is getting red zone looks which limits McCoy considerably. We think McCoy has one of his better games against a poor Washington team, so he remains an RB1, but he is unlikely to score a touchdown this week again. Polk only seems to get touchdowns but inconsistently. He might see another one this week, but it's hard to count on it. As that's the case, he's nothing more than a deep hail mary in the neighborhood of a RB5.

Eagles | Shady opens practice on sidelines    Thu Dec 18, 12:56 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy opened practice on the sidelines Wednesday, Dec. 17, while RB Chris Polk opened with first-team reps. After practice McCoy did not seem too concerned. 'We rotate all the time,' McCoy said. '(Running backs coach Duce Staley) pulled me out. (RB Darren Sproles) wasn't in either.' Shady played a season-low 34 of 55 offensive snaps in Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys, his fewest in two seasons under head coach Chip Kelly.

Footballguys view: We're a bit concerned about McCoy and his injury which drops him to a shaky RB2 play. Polk won't be a better start and in fact even if Polk gets most of the carries, he won't be more than a RB4.

Eagles | Chris Polk runs with first team    Thu Dec 18, 12:55 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk opened practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, running with the first-team offense while RB LeSean McCoy looked on from the sideline.

Footballguys view: An interesting note here, but don't read too much into it. Polk has been much more effective near pay dirt than McCoy has this year. We don't see Polk as more than a RB4 or RB5 even against Washington.
