Philadelphia Eagles OG Isaac Seumalo appears to be the leading candidate for the starting left guard job in 2017.

Eagles | Dorial Green-Beckham likely on bubble    Sat May 20, 01:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Dorial Green-Beckham likely will be on the roster bubble during training camp unless he gets a sudden grasp of the offense, in the opinion of NJ.com's Matt Lombardo.

Footballguys view: Potential is a dirty, filthy word and Green-Beckham has always been a player with a ton of it...but he's never really played up to that potential. With the additions to the passing game like WRs Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery, we don't consider him a lock to make the final roster even though he's physically gifted.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount to lead backfield?    Fri May 19, 09:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount will likely inherit the carries RB Ryan Mathews was given last year, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski, and Kempski estimates Blount will see around 170 carries.

Footballguys view: That's a given as the other backs on the Eagles roster are more part-time or change-of-pace players. Mathews is likely to be released as soon as he's considered healthy coming back from neck surgery. Blount may not produce like he did last year (no.7 fantasy RB), but he should perform like a low-end RB2 (standard) or flex option (PPR) in fantasy leagues.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount likes new QB    Thu May 18, 10:19 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount said QB Carson Wentz is 'one of those guys you want to build a team around' and 'has the potential to be a really special player.'

Footballguys view: Wentz is a player that the whole staff...and now a new teammate...are excited to work with. He struggled as his rookie season went on last year, but now Wentz has better weapons around him. The addition of WRs Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith should help him stay consistent as a passer.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews done in Philly?    Wed May 17, 01:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be released once he is healthy following the signing of LeGarrette Blount, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: As soon as the Blount news came in, it meant Mathews would be on his way out. Mathews suffered a neck injury late last year that required surgery, and he may not be designated healthy for another couple of months. If/When on the open market, we can't see teams lining up around the block for a 30-year old (in October), injury prone running back like Mathews.

Eagles | More on LeGarrette Blount deal    Wed May 17, 11:00 AM

Updating an earlier report, Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount's one-year deal is worth up to $2.8 million with a $1.25 million base salary and up to $1.55 million in incentives.

Footballguys view: Coming off a career high in rushing yards (1,161) and rushing touchdowns (18) in 2016, this isn't likely the size of deal Blount initially wanted. The market was cool for veteran backs this offseason, and once the Patriots added Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee it was clear Blount was going to play elsewhere in 2017.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount agrees with Eagles    Wed May 17, 10:25 AM

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, May 17, worth up to $2.8 million.

Footballguys view: Blount finally lands with a new team after the Patriots decided to move on. He'll serve as the two-down banger for the Eagles, and he should get some goal-line and short-yardage work too. When they need a change-of-pace back, the Eagles have quite the collection with Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, and rookie Donnel Pumphrey. He's unlikely to be quite the TD hog like he was last year (18 rushing scores), but Blount could perform like a RB2 for fantasy owners.

Eagles | Jerod Evans reverts to IR     Tue May 16, 07:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jerod Evans (foot) reverted to the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, May 16, after being waived/injured Sunday, May 14.

Footballguys view: Evans could latch on with another team on the practice squad once he's cleared medically. An athletic quarterback from Virginia Tech, Evans was always seen as a developmental prospect at best.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery impressing new team    Sun May 14, 09:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery has embraced the coaching staff and has been competing at a high level since joining the team, according to head coach Doug Pederson, and Pederson said the hope for the offseason is to have Jeffery and QB Carson Wentz on the same page.

Footballguys view: The Eagles finally have a true no.1 wide receiver for Wentz, and Jeffery could have plenty of fantasy value with his new team. His current ADP is WR16 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Derek Barnett will work on both sides    Sun May 14, 08:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Derek Barnett will work at both defensive end spots to see which side he is most comfortable on, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Barnett has great technique, so it's not surprising he can work on either side of the defensive line. He was one of the most productive players coming out in this year's draft, and Barnett could make an immediate impact as a pass rusher for the Eagles as a rookie.

Eagles | Philly high on Corey Clement    Sun May 14, 08:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement was given a 'draftable grade' by the scouting department, according to head coach Doug Pederson. 'We wanted to get him in here and get him working,' Pederson said.

Footballguys view: Clement is rocked up and has the size (220 pounds) of a lead back. In fact, he's the largest back on the Eagles roster at this time. Clement is not much of a receiving option and staying healthy has been a problem for him during his football career. He's competing for a spot on the 53-man roster, and it's worth keeping an eye on this Eagles backfield for fantasy value.

Eagles | Sidney Jones not rushing back    Sun May 14, 04:36 PM

Philadelphia Eagles CB Sidney Jones (Achilles') said the team is taking a cautious approach to his return and want him healthy before he returns to the field, so there is no timetable for his return. Jones is able to lift weights and is focusing on regaining his mobility. He will have his walking boot removed next week and expects his rehab to ramp up at that point.

Footballguys view: Jones has tremendous upside, but an Achilles' injury during his pro day will likely keep him out as a rookie. When healthy, Jones plays a lot like another former Washington CB - Marcus Peters (Chiefs) - because of his gambling style and casino cornerback play. Jones will take chances in coverage, but he can make plays and turns into an offensive player with the ball in his hands.

Eagles | Jerod Evans cut loose    Sun May 14, 02:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles undrafted free-agent QB Jerod Evans (foot) was waived with an injury designation Sunday, May 14, following the team's three-day rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: Evans was undrafted out of Virginia Tech this year, and once he's recovered we could see a team putting him on the practice squad. He's super athletic and has a strong arm, but Evans is a developmental project as a passer.

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey seeing time in slot    Sat May 13, 12:47 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey said he is seeing reps as a slot receiver, and head coach Doug Pederson said Pumphrey reminds him of RB Darren Sproles because of his versatility.

Footballguys view: Pumphrey is tiny, measuring in around 170 pounds, but he's elusive and dangerous in open space. The Eagles should groom him as an eventual replacement to Darren Sproles.

Eagles | Sidney Jones contract details    Fri May 12, 05:11 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles CB Sidney Jones (Achilles') signed a four-year deal worth $6.14 million. The team has agreed to pay Jones' full 2017 base salary if he spends the season on the Non-Football Injury list.

Eagles | Nate Gerry to start out at LB    Fri May 12, 12:05 PM

Eagles | Philadelphia signs nine UDFAs    Thu May 11, 06:02 PM

Undrafted free-agents RB Corey Clement (Wisconsin), DT Winston Craig (Richmond), QB Jerod Evans (Virginia Tech), CB Randall Goforth (UCLA), P Cameron Johnston (Ohio State), C Tyler Orlosky (West Virginia), S Tre Sullivan (Shepherd), DT Charles Walker (Oklahoma), WR Greg Ward (Houston) and CB Jomal Wiltz (Iowa State) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, May 11.

Footballguys view: Clement is the interesting player here. The Wisconsin running back is big (220 pounds), athletic and capable of thriving in a one-cut offense. Questions about his ability to stay healthy and character concerns caused him to fall undrafted in 2017.

Eagles | Seven rookies sign with Eagles    Thu May 11, 05:27 PM

Philadelphia Eagles rookies CB Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, Mack Hollins, RB Donnel Pumphrey, Shelton Gibson, Nathan Gerry and Elijah Qualls signed their four-year rookie deals Thursday, May 11. Financial details were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Pumphrey finished his college career at San Diego State as the all-time leading rusher in FBS history. He's small (measured in at 169 pounds at the Senior Bowl) and will have to be used as a change-of-pace back with the Eagles. Expect Pumphrey to get some looks as a returner as well. Mostly, he'll learn behind Darren Sproles in 2017 with an idea that he could potentially do more in 2018.

Eagles | Brandon Graham holding out?    Wed May 10, 03:43 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham is no longer attending offseason workouts and is expected to skip organized team activities and possibly the mandatory June minicamp unless the team renegotiates his contract, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Graham is likely looking for a pay raise. Based on his play, Graham should be making more than he's currently slated to earn in 2017 ($6.5 million). He's coming off a career high 59 tackle season, and Graham has at least 5.5 sacks in four of the last five years.

Eagles | Derek Barnett should see opportunities    Tue May 9, 11:19 AM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Derek Barnett should see opportunities to rush the passer in at least a rotation at one of the defensive end spots.

Footballguys view: Barnett is one of the most productive players in this draft class. He broke Reggie White's all-time sack record in college at Tennessee, and Barnett is going to be asked to rush the passer as a rookie in 2017. Barnett is technically sound and has a non-stop motor. He could make an impact for the Eagles, even as a rotational player this year.

Eagles | Marcus Smith's optioned not exercised    Mon May 1, 06:27 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Marcus Smith's fifth-year option will not be picked up by the Eagles, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Smith has turned in a disappointing pro career so far with only four career sacks. The Eagles added Chris Long in free agency and they drafted Derek Barnett in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. Smith isn't guaranteed to make the 53-man roster.

Eagles | Mack Hollins to play on special teams    Sun Apr 30, 11:32 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mack Hollins will likely be the fourth or fifth receiver on the depth chart in 2017, but he is expected to contribute immediately on special teams.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews cleared to work out    Sat Apr 29, 09:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (back) has been cleared to work out, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said Saturday, April 29.

Footballguys view: Many covering the Eagles expect Mathews to be released once he is healthy, so this is a sign that he could be on the way out. Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood will play roles in the backfield regardless of Mathews' status, but if he is let go, then there will some carries free for the taking in Philadelphia.

Eagles | Greg Ward joining Eagles    Sat Apr 29, 07:18 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Greg Ward Jr. (Houston) agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, April 29, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ward is a former quarterback, but the best he can hope for is a practice squad spot with his raw development at wide receiver and a depth chart that now includes two rookie draft picks that can play special teams on the Eagles.

Eagles | Rasul Douglas headed to Philadelphia     Fri Apr 28, 11:20 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles selected CB Rasul Douglas with the 99th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Douglas has great size and he piled up picks last season. He can make plays when he gets into position, but sometimes struggles to do so.

Eagles | Sidney Jones selected by the Eagles    Fri Apr 28, 08:08 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Washington CB Sidney Jones with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: The Eagles address their secondary finally, and get a guy that they were talking about taking higher at one point. He's got great ball skills and is a willing tackler even if he isn't a large fellow.

Eagles | Philly selects Derek Barnett    Thu Apr 27, 09:53 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Tennessee DE Derek Barnett with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Thursday, April 27.

Footballguys view: The Eagles improve their pass rush by getting a guy who was incredibly productive in college. Barnett should be a great fit and helpful in getting after the likes of Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins and Eli Manning not to mention guys like Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. This gives the Eagles an exceptional front line.

Eagles | Carson Wentz had eye surgery    Thu Apr 27, 02:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (eyes) underwent laser eye surgery this offseason.

Footballguys view: This should have no impact on training camp, much less the season. Went might see defenses a little better but more realistically this provides him with a good advertising deal and sponsorship.

Eagles | PHI remains interested in Joe Mixon    Tue Apr 25, 10:11 AM

Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon remains of interest to the Philadelphia Eagles, who continue to do extensive research into him.

Footballguys view: Mixon has first-round talent but a domestic violence incident from 2014 will likely cause his draft stock to fall into the second round or later. The Eagles have the 14th pick in the first round, but that would be a shock to see Mixon go off the board then given his off field incident. Maybe the Eagles would consider Mixon in round two.

Eagles | Philly meets with Reuben Foster    Mon Apr 24, 08:15 PM

Alabama LB Reuben Foster recently met with a representative from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have the 14th pick in the first round, and Foster may be available at that time. Foster may need time for his shoulder to heal properly, and there's a chance he may need another surgery to repair the damage. That should be more of a concern for teams rather than his diluted urine sample from the Scouting Combine. Foster plays like Patrick Willis (49ers) and if healthy he's the most intimidating player on the field in most instances.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews trade a possibility?    Fri Apr 21, 12:28 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews could be available for trade at some point this year because 'he's going to expect more money than what he's worth,' according to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in 2014, Matthews hasn't quite yet played up to his potentially. He certainly hasn't been the consistent force the team needs him to be. Entering the last year of his rookie deal, Matthews could be dealt before they lose him and get nothing for him.

Eagles | Carson Wentz talks elbow soreness    Tue Apr 18, 01:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's elbow wasn't a problem during his rookie season, dispelling reports suggesting he dealt with soreness, he said during a Monday, April 17, press conference at the Eagles' NovaCare Complex.

Footballguys view: The Eagles will monitor the second-year pro closely as he continues to develop as their franchise quarterback. With better weapons around him this year, Wentz could post QB2 numbers for fantasy owners in 2017.

Eagles | Carson Wentz working on feet    Mon Apr 17, 02:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz said his focus this offseason has been on his footwork.

Footballguys view: Accuracy starts with footwork, so improving that just makes his entire game better. Outside the pocket in 2016, Wentz had a 49.1 percent completion rate - a mark that ranked 19th in the league. He'll need to get better on the run if he's going to be as dangerous as he can be in the pros.

Eagles | Derek Barnett visiting Eagles    Mon Apr 17, 10:32 AM

Tennessee DE Derek Barnett is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 17.

Footballguys view: Barnett can get after the quarterback early and often. He's technically sound and strong at the point of attack. The Eagles have the 14th pick in the first round, and they may go for Barnett at that point. He's going to be a first-round pick and Barnett has to be considered one of the safest picks in this draft class because of his consistent level of production from college.

Free-agent DE Jared Odrick (Jaguars) has drawn interest from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

Free-agent QB Matt McGloin (Raiders) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 10. Terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: It's an interesting move for the Eagles considering they already have Nick Foles as a veteran backup behind Carson Wentz. McGloin did good things under Bill O'Brien at Penn State, and we're a bit surprised the Texans head coach didn't make a move to add him via free agency.
