Saints | Mark Ingram ruled out    Fri Sep 19, 06:37 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (hand) did not practice Friday, Sept. 19, and has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: Ingram is likely out for at least the next week or two, and if it goes longer than that, through the Saints Week 6 bye.

Saints | Khiry Robinson on the rise    Thu Sep 18, 10:12 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Khiry Robinson's workload will increase after RB Mark Ingram's (hand) injury. 'He's another back we feel like is young (but) is someone that'll be ready for the workload,' said head coach Sean Payton.

Footballguys view: Robinson's star has been slowly rising in many fantasy circles, and if he's available in your league this might be your last chance to grab him as we expect he could have a very good game this week against the Minnesota Vikings. We've got him as a good flex start--the type of back who is at least an RB3 and could produce as an RB2. His upside is monumental going forward.

Saints | Edwin Baker added to PS    Tue Sep 16, 06:47 PM

The New Orleans Saints added free-agent RB Edwin Baker (Browns) to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Footballguys view: Baker has a strong lower body, and he can grind defenses down between the tackles. The Saints need more bodies at the running back position with Mark Ingram out for a few weeks with a broken hand.

Saints | Browns shut down Saints' passing game    Mon Sep 15, 02:19 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston, who didn't catch a pass in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns for the first time in 87 games, wasn't even targeted a single time. The Browns made it their mission to shut the Saints' downfield passing game down, and Cleveland had seven defensive backs on the field at once at times. WR Brandin Cooks was held to just three catches for 17 yards, and the four receivers combined for nine catches for 79 yards.

Saints | Mark Ingram injury update    Mon Sep 15, 01:26 PM

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (hand) suffered a broken hand in the team's Week 2 game and will miss at least four weeks, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Just when you thought Ingram was going to be a steal of your draft/waiver wire. Ingram runs with a lot of passion, but he doesn't care about his personal safety. This style has caused him to get banged up quite a bit as a pro. We'll see more from Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas with Ingram out.

Saints | Mark Ingram out a month    Mon Sep 15, 12:29 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (hand) is expected to miss roughly a month after injuring his hand in Week 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners were just getting excited about Ingram after he produced at a high level for two weeks in a row. With this injury, we should see more from Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas.

Saints | Marques Colston shut out    Mon Sep 15, 09:25 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston was held without a reception Sunday, Sept. 14. It was the first time he didn't record a catch in a game since 2008.

Footballguys view: Colston has had a rough start to begin the 2014 season. The fumble in Week 1 cost the Saints the game, and now this. We'll see if the veteran can bounce back in the coming weeks and be that solid-yet-unspectacular WR2 he's been for years.

Saints | Week 2 Inactives    Sun Sep 14, 11:45 AM

The New Orleans Saints have declared FB Erik Lorig, DL Glenn Foster, WR Joe Morgan, SS Marcus Ball, WR Nick Toon, OT Senio Kelemete, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste inactive for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Now that Kenny Stills is healthy enough to play, Morgan goes back to the inactives.

Saints | Kenny Stills probable    Fri Sep 12, 05:35 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is probable for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Brandin Cooks becomes a less attractive play with Stills likely taking some of his snaps, but both have boom/bust WR3/Flex upside at Cleveland.

Saints | Kenny Stills limited again    Thu Sep 11, 06:37 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) was limited in practice for the second day in a row Thursday, Sept. 11.

Footballguys view: Stills was a hot name before the start of training camp. That has cooled off now that he's been banged up. Rookie Brandin Cooks is the WR "not named Marques Colston" who is getting a lot of love from the Saints offense.

Saints | Limited practice for Kenny Stills     Wed Sep 10, 05:22 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Footballguys view: Stills has intriguing upside because of his size/speed combination, but rookie Brandin Cooks has been stealing his thunder. Feel free to make a waiver wire move for Stills until we see him healthy, stay healthy and produce on the football field.

Saints | Mark Ingram stands out    Mon Sep 8, 09:36 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram had 13 rushes for 60 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1

Footballguys view: Ingram ran with passion and aggression against a poor Falcons run defense. Don't expect this every week from Ingram, but in games against an inferior defense make sure to have him in as a "what the heck" flex at least.

Saints | Brandin Cooks has solid debut    Sun Sep 7, 09:29 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks had seven receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Sept. 7.

Footballguys view: Cooks is an instant hit with Kenny Stills out, but as his yards per catch indicates, he is absorbing a quasi-Darren Sproles role. He also had a carry for 18 yards. Cooks is a WR2 while Stills is out, and he might retain startable value in deeper leagues even after Stills returns.

The New Orleans Saints have declared FB Erik Lorig, DL John Jenkins, WR Kenny Stills, SS Marcus Ball, WR Nick Toon, OT Senio Kelemete, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Rookie Brandin Cooks and deep threat Joseph Morgan should have a few shots at big plays against the Atlanta defense this week with Stills out.

Saints | Kenny Stills out    Sat Sep 6, 03:08 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: We foresee a bump in Brandin Cooks' targets, moving him from a WR4 to a low-end WR3. We still don't know exactly how involved he will be in the offense, but we expect him to see more action than he might have if Stills was there.

Saints | Kenny Stills uncertain to play    Fri Sep 5, 05:18 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 5, and is listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. It was the second time Stills was limited in practice this week.

Footballguys view: Stills is more likely to rest because it has been so long since he has been healthy for any length of time. Brandin Cooks' outlook gets better if Stills is out, but if he is in, he probably should be on your bench just in case of re-injury or Stills being rusty.

Saints | Todd Davis cut    Thu Sep 4, 07:01 PM

New Orleans Saints LB Todd Davis was released from the team Thursday, Sept. 4.

Saints | Ryan Griffin re-signs    Thu Sep 4, 06:58 PM

The New Orleans Saints re-signed QB Ryan W. Griffin to their practice squad Thursday, Sept. 4.

Footballguys view: It's a good move for the Saints. Griffin was impressive as the preseason, and there was a real shot for him to unseat Luke McCown as the primary backup behind Drew Brees. That didn't happen, but the team had to keep him around as a developmental prospect on the practice squad. He's your classic pocket passer with a strong arm and good field vision.

Saints | Kenny Stills not ruling out playing    Thu Sep 4, 06:03 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) didn't participate in team drills Thursday, Sept. 4, but he's not ruling out playing in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. However, the decision on whether he'll play ultimately will come down to the trainer's decision.

Footballguys view: The team won't rush him back until he's ready. Stills is an intriguing player to monitor--especially in that offense--and especially with his size/speed combination.

Saints | Re-sign Ryan Griffin    Wed Sep 3, 05:52 PM

The New Orleans Saints re-signed QB Ryan W. Griffin to the team's practice squad Wednesday, Sept. 3. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Saints | Kenny Stills limited Wednesday    Wed Sep 3, 05:51 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Stills has intriguing upside--especially in that Saints offense--but this injury has slowed him down. We will have to wait until he's closer to full strength before Stills has a chance to explode onto the NFL scene.

New Orleans Saints LB Junior Galette was signed to a four-year contract extension that will run through the 2019 season Wednesday, Sept. 3.   Saints | Robert Meachem re-signs with Saints    Wed Sep 3, 03:58 PM

The New Orleans Saints re-signed WR Robert Meachem to an undisclosed deal four days after he was released Wednesday, Sept. 3. In a corresponding move, LB Khairi Fortt (undisclosed) was placed on the short-term Reserve/Injured list. Meachem caught only 16 passes in the regular season last year and finished with 324 yards.

Footballguys view: Awesome. He still has next to zero fantasy value.

Saints | Ryan Griffin waived    Tue Sep 2, 06:51 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Ryan W. Griffin was placed on no-recall waivers Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: We could see the Saints look to bring Griffin back to the practice squad. The second-year quarterback looked good in the preseason. As of right now, Luke McCown is the primary backup behind Drew Brees.

Saints | Robert Meachem released    Sat Aug 30, 03:58 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Robert Meachem has been released.

Footballguys view: Meachem returned to New Orleans with the hopes of resuming his old role as a deep threat for Drew Brees. The team decided he wasn't good enough to make the squad this time around. We can't imagine any team getting hot and bothered now that Meachem is on the open market.

Saints | Champ Bailey released    Sat Aug 30, 03:47 PM

New Orleans Saints CB Champ Bailey has been released.

Footballguys view: Bailey just isn't the same player he used to be. Last year, Bailey struggled through a Lisfranc injury for the Broncos. That injury and age have slowed him down. He's a bright veteran who might make a team as a free safety.

Saints | Marques Colston injured    Tue Aug 26, 11:56 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (undisclosed) came off the field during team drills Tuesday, Aug. 26, and talked with a trainer before watching the rest of practice from the sidelines.

Footballguys view: Until we hear something specifically negative about this development, we won't change Colston's outlook, but there are no outward signs that this is anything to worry about... yet. Colston was plagued by a foot issue for the first half of the season last year, but finished very strong after resting the injury for a week. Hopefully this is not a recurrence of that issue.

Saints | Injury notes    Tue Aug 26, 11:48 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (quadriceps), SS Rafael Bush (undisclosed), SS Marcus Ball (undisclosed), LB Khairi Fortt (undisclosed) and FB Erik Lorig (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 26, and CB Trevin Wade (undisclosed) was limited.

Footballguys view: Stills has barely played this summer. His star is falling in redraft leagues and his absence is doing nothing to slow down the Brandin Cooks express and the resurgence of Marques Colston. Unless Still falls to the 11th-12th round or later, Cooks and Colston are much better picks at their ADP.

Saints | Mark Ingram dominating     Tue Aug 26, 08:44 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is averaging 7.1 yards per carry during the preseason and has remained on the field in passing situations.

Footballguys view: Ingram has had the same renewed vigor and burst in his runs that we saw in the second half of last season. If he can get the bulk of the goal line work, he could be a decent flex play, but he's in a three-head backfield no matter what, and we know how difficult those are to predict week to week.
