Saints | Terron Armstead undergoes surgery Fri Jun 23, 04:43 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Terron Armstead (shoulder) underwent surgery Monday, June 19, to repair the torn labrum in his shoulder and is expected to do most of his rehab in New Orleans, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: The Saints have a few different options while Amsterdam is out. We think rookie first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk could win the starting left tackle job.|
Saints | Ryan Ramczyk contract update Fri Jun 23, 04:05 PM
Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints OT Ryan Ramczyk's four-year contract is worth $8.891 million. The deal includes a $4.606 million signing bonus.Link to story
Saints | Ryan Ramczyk signs contract Thu Jun 22, 04:23 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Ryan Ramczyk signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, June 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The rookie from Wisconsin had a roundabout path to the NFL which included four stops in college. He's athletic and technically sound, and the potential for him to be a quality starter is there. Ramczyk is still recovering from hip surgery but he's a candidate to replace Terron Armstead (labrum) as the starting left tackle. Armstead has a 4-6 month recovery timetable.|
Saints | Ryan Ramczyk saw time with starters Sun Jun 18, 05:09 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Ryan Ramczyk (hip) received some snaps at left tackle with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, June 15.
|Footballguys view: Ramczyk is still recovering from hip surgery but it looks like the Saints are slowly easing him into action. He's a candidate to replace Terron Armstead (labrum) as the starting left tackle. Armstead is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday, and he has a 4-6 month recovery timetable.|
Saints | New Orleans not counting on Nick Fairley Sun Jun 18, 05:04 PM
The New Orleans Saints are preparing as if DT Nick Fairley (heart) will not be able to play in 2017.
|Footballguys view: Last we heard, Fairley was waiting on a third opinion from doctors regarding his heart condition. There is a chance that Fairley doesn't ever play football again.|

Saints | Zach Strief mentions three LT candidates Sat Jun 17, 03:31 PM
New Orleans Saints OTs Ryan Ramczyk, Bryce Harris and Khalif Barnes are candidates to start at left tackle in place of OT Terron Armstead (shoulder), according to OT Zach Strief.
|Footballguys view: The Saints had the makings of a dominant offensive line before this injury to Armstead. Saints OG Andrus Peat might also be in the competition for left tackle while Armstead is out.|
Saints | Andrus Peat may move to LT Fri Jun 16, 07:21 PM
New Orleans Saints OG Andrus Peat may move from left guard to left tackle with OT Terron Armstead (shoulder) expected to miss four to six months.
|Footballguys view: The Saints will be looking for a new starting left tackle with Armstead out. Peat could be the guy or 2017 first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk could also be tasked with that job.|
Saints | Terron Armstead out indefinitely Fri Jun 16, 01:24 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Terron Armstead (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum Monday, June 19, according to sources. He is expected to need four to six months to recover.
|Footballguys view: Bad news for the Saints here. Armstead's main replacement at left tackle could be first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk. The rookie will have an accelerated learning curve, especially considering he's coming back from hip surgery he had in January.|
Saints | Mark Ingram learning from Adrian Peterson Fri Jun 16, 11:50 AM
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram said he is competing with RB Adrian Peterson but is also learning from him. Ingram noted that he and Peterson recently discussed how to balance patience, vision, decisiveness and aggression when trying to get first-down yardage on third and short. Ingram said putting his head down and barreling forward toward the first sign of an opening has been his inclination, but sometimes a choice he regretted because, 'If you would have followed your read and followed the guard outside, you would have had a 30-yard run.' Ingram recalled Peterson telling him, 'I've noticed that in that time you just have to slow down and trust your eyes.'
|Footballguys view: Ingram wants to post better stats than the career-best numbers he had in 2016. He was the no10 fantasy RB last year and went over 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career. It's going to be difficult to best those numbers with a potential three-headed RBBC in New Orleans. Ingram and Peterson will share time with rookie Alvin Kamara likely mixed in as a change-of-pace back.|

Saints | Mark Ingram wants to be more productive even with Peterson around Thu Jun 15, 01:36 PM
Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com reports Saints RB Mark Ingram wants to be even better than he was during his career-best performance in 2016. Even with Adrian Peterson in the mix, Ingram believes he can improve. "I know my last three years I've had the best three years of my career. I've only been getting better and better, so I feel like any time that I can touch the ball -- carry it, catch it -- I'll be productive and I'm going to keep improving."
|Footballguys view: How Peterson is in the mix will be what tells the tale and so far we just have no idea how this will play out. Ingram is currently going as the No. 18 running back off the board, and with an overall ADP of 49, it seems like there are some concerns among Fantasy GMs as well.|

Saints | Willie Snead hopeful for deal before season Thu Jun 15, 01:08 AM
New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead is optimistic that he'll have a long-term deal with the club before the new season begins. 'I think the guys upstairs are working on it,' Snead said. 'I'm hopeful, and I just have to keep worrying about myself and staying healthy and doing all the right things. I know it's going to be handled, it's going to take time, but I feel like we'll get it done sooner or later.'
|Footballguys view: We could see a deal getting done since Brandin Cooks is over in New England. Mike Thomas will get more than his fair share of targets, and sure, Ted Ginn Jr. is now in the offense, but Snead clearly represents a big value and important piece for this team. Snead's current ADP marks him as the 81st player taken overall and the No. 34 wide receiver.|

Saints | Ryan Nassib joining Saints Mon Jun 12, 03:29 PM
Free-agent QB Ryan Nassib (Giants) is expected to sign with the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Nassib is likely just a camp arm the team is taking a look at. He'll compete with Garrett Grayson for the no3 job behind starter Drew Brees and primary backup Chase Daniel.|

Saints | Travaris Cadet could be moved Sat Jun 10, 11:36 AM
The New Orleans Saints are looking into the possibility of trading RB Travaris Cadet before training camp, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: The Saints are absolutely stacked in the backfield right now. They've got Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson as the top two backs with talented rookie Alvin Kamara as a developmental prospect behind them. Add in all-purpose guy Daniel Lasco and you can see how it's cramped for Cadet. We can't imagine the phone lines burning up for Cadet's services, but he may be on the trade block nonetheless.|

Saints | Adrian Peterson wants five more years Thu Jun 8, 08:56 AM
New Orleans Saints RB Adrian Peterson said he wants to play until age 37 or 38.
|Footballguys view: We want to be the King of England. It's likely neither wish will come true, barring the possibility that Peterson plans on joining a beer-league flag football group or we start working at Medieval Times. Even then, we'd have to start at busboy and work our way up. Peterson looked awful even before his injury last year and while some of that might have been the tragicomedy that passes for a Vikings offensive line, a lot of it was him. Right now he's tracking at an ADP of 26 which seems just a bit rich for us, and 73 overall, which feels the same. In an offense which throws a lot and is an RBBC, we think his impact will be minimal.|

Saints | New Orleans waiting to sign Ryan Ramczyk Sun Jun 4, 04:38 PM
New Orleans Saints first-round draft choice OT Ryan Ramczyk (hip) is not expected to sign his rookie deal until he can pass a physical, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Ramczyk had hip surgery back in January and that prevented him from working out for teams during the pre-draft process. The Saints liked him enough to select him in the first round with the idea he could be a future starter. Reports indicate Ramczyk is a few weeks from being fully cleared.|
Saints | Nick Fairley dealing with heart condition Sat Jun 3, 08:10 PM
New Orleans Saints DT Nick Fairley (heart) has been absent from OTAs due to a heart condition that could jeopardize his playing career, according to Fox Sports' Jennifer Hale.
|Footballguys view: Fairley has been playing with this heart condition ever since he came into the league. The condition could shorten his pro career, and this is something to keep an eye on. Losing Fairley would be a big blow to the on-field product, but also it would come with salary cap ramifications. Back in March, the Saints re-signed Fairley to a four-year, $28 million contract, including an $8 million signing bonus. Sheldon Rankins (first-round pick in 2016) will be asked to do more in Fairley's absence.|

Saints | New Orleans inks most of draft class Fri Jun 2, 03:26 PM
New Orleans Saints CB Marshon Lattimore, DB Marcus Williams, RB Alvin Kamara, LB Alex Anzalone, DE Trey Hendrickson and DE Al-Quadin Muhammad signed their four-year rookie deals on Friday, June 2.
|Footballguys view: The RB corps is packed with talent in New Orleans, but we have a ton of dynasty love for Kamara. He's a tough runner with good vision and moves outside the tackles. Kamara is a known TD hog from his days in college at Tennessee, and he's got the skill set of a three-down back. Right now, Kamara is buried on the depth chart behind Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson.|

Saints | Troy Hendrickson signs rookie deal Thu Jun 1, 05:04 PM
New Orleans Saints DE Trey Hendrickson signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, June 1, according to a source. In total, the deal is worth $3 million, including his signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: Hendrickson is a hustle player on the edge. He should work in as a rotational pass rusher for the Saints in 2017.|
Saints | Khalif Barnes back with Saints Wed May 31, 06:32 PM
Free-agent OT Khalif Barnes (Saints) re-signed with the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, May 31, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.Link to story
Saints | Lance Moore retires with Saints Tue May 30, 07:54 PM
Free-agent WR Lance Moore (Saints) was signed Tuesday, May 30, and retired as a member of the New Orleans Saints.
|Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Toledo in 2005, Moore was one of the hardest workers in the league. His best seasons came with the Saints, and he had over 1,000 yards receiving in 2012. Moore finishes his pro career with 389 catches, 4,816 yards and 44 receiving touchdowns.|
Saints | Khalif Barnes released Tue May 30, 07:00 PM

Saints | Coby Fleener more prepared for 2017 Sun May 28, 12:16 AM
New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener said already understanding the terminology of the offense will be a big advantage in his second season with the Saints. 'So being able to revamp and feel comfortable going out there and not having to worry about what play call is gonna come up is a huge benefit,' Fleener said.
|Footballguys view: Fleener was a disappointment in his first year with the Saints. He did finish with 50 receptions for the fourth year in a row, but his lack of touchdowns (3) kept him at the TE2 levels for fantasy owners. If he's more comfortable this year, Fleener could perform like a low-end TE1 with upside. His ADP is low right now at TE17 (13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

In addition to LeRibeus, OT Senio Kelemete and C Jack Allen could also see time at center during Unger's absence.Link to story
Saints | Zach Strief restructures deal Fri May 26, 04:17 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Zach Strief received a restructured contract that takes his 2017 base salary from $1 million to $1.7 million, according to a source. Saints | Michael Thomas has put on weight Thu May 25, 05:47 PM
New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has added some extra weight this offseason, increasing from 210 pounds to 220 pounds.
|Footballguys view: The added weight should help Thomas absorb the punishment of the NFL. It may also help him push around defenders that will be much smaller. With Brandin Cooks (Patriots) gone, Thomas should once again finish as a top-10 fantasy WR (he was 9th last year in standard leagues).|

Saints | Justin Thomas to be used at WR Sat May 20, 02:05 PM
New Orleans Saints WR Justin Thomas originally worked out at cornerback during the team's rookie minicamp, but the team has moved him to wide receiver.
|Footballguys view: He was the starting quarterback for Georgia Tech over the last three years. Thomas has the athleticism to work as a wide receiver, and as a former passer he naturally understands how to find the soft spot in the zone.|
Saints | Trey Edmunds joins Saints Mon May 15, 07:51 PM
Undrafted free-agent RB Trey Edmunds (Maryland) signed with the New Orleans Saints Monday, May 15. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Edmunds measures in at 6'2" 233 pounds and is tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. He participated in the Saints minicamp after five years in college, four at Virginia Tech and one as a graduate transfer at Maryland. With Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara stacked atop the depth chart, it's going to be tough for any runner behind those three to have much fantasy value in 2017.|
Saints | More roster moves for Saints Mon May 15, 05:58 PM
Free-agents OG Josh LeRibeus (Eagles), TE Clay Harbor (Lions) and OT Khalif Barnes (Saints) officially signed with the New Orleans Saints Monday, May 15.
|Footballguys view: The Harbor move is the one to watch, but only in the deepest dynasty leagues. Harbor is an athletic move tight end, but he's bounced around the league and hasn't amounted to much as a pro. Anybody catching passes from QB Drew Brees gets our attention, so we'll watch Harbor to see how he competes behind Coby Fleener and Josh Hill.|

Saints | Shiloh Keo released Mon May 15, 05:52 PM
New Orleans Saints SS Shiloh Keo was released Monday, May 15.
|Footballguys view: A couple of years ago, Keo hit up (then Broncos DC) Wade Phillips on Twitter for a job. Perhaps he could end up on Phillips defense with the Rams in 2017.|

Saints | Justin Thomas joining Saints Mon May 15, 05:09 PM
Undrafted free-agent QB Justin Thomas (Georgia Tech) is signing a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Thomas was an option quarterback in college, but he worked out at wide receiver and defensive back for the Saints as a tryout player in their recent minicamp. He played cornerback at the Senior Bowl earlier this year, but his position with the Saints is unclear at this time.|
Saints | Clay Harbor expected to sign Sun May 14, 11:43 PM
Free-agent TE Clay Harbor (Lions) is expected to sign with the New Orleans Saints Monday, May 15, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Harbor is a move tight end, and that makes him an interesting fit on the Saints high-powered offense. However, he's never played up to his potential and has bounced around quite a bit during his pro career. Harbor (if/when added) is no lock for the 53-man roster.|

Saints | New Orleans expected to add two tryout players Sun May 14, 05:13 PM
Free-agent TE Clay Harbor (Lions) and OT Khalif Barnes (Saints) are expected to sign with the New Orleans Saints Monday, May 15, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick of the Eagles back in 2010, Harbor has bounced around the league to more than a few teams. Harbor is an athletic move tight end, and it's interesting that he's likely to land with the Saints. However, they're packed at the position and he would be no lock for the 53-man roster.|

Saints | New Orleans eyeing open competition at DE Sun May 14, 02:32 PM
New Orleans Saints DE Cameron Jordan has one defensive end spot locked up, but the team expects an 'open competition' between Alex Okafor, Obum Gwacham, Hau'oli Kikaha and third-round pick Trey Hendrickson for the defensive end spot opposite him.
|Footballguys view: The Saints need to find a new starter opposite Jordan after not renewing the contract of Paul Kruger. Okafor has the experience advantage and has an 8.0 sack season (2014) on his resume (when he was with the Cardinals). Hendrickson, the rookie from FAU, is known as a hustle player who just won't quit. He can get the quarterback with bend, burst and a burning desire to make a play. Hendrickson may be best suited as a rotational player, but the upside is there for him to be an effective starter.|

Saints | Ryan Ramczyk should be ready for camp Sat May 13, 04:15 PM
New Orleans Saints OT Ryan Ramczyk (hip) said he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from hip surgery and should be ready for the start of training camp.
|Footballguys view: His hip surgery likely caused Ramczyk's draft stock to fall to the end of the first round. Once healthy, Ramczyk will compete for playing time and likely serve as a backup for LT Terron Armstead in 2017.|
Saints | Several veterans trying out for Saints Sat May 13, 02:28 PM
Free-agent QB Matt Simms (Falcons), OT Khalif Barnes (Saints), TE Clay Harbor (Lions) and OT Bryce Harris (Dolphins) are participating in the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.
|Footballguys view: Harbor would be the only player of interest here...if he gets to stay as more than a tryout player. Anybody catching passes from QB Drew Brees will always get out attention.|

Saints | Max Unger to play in preseason? Sat May 13, 02:07 PM
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said the goal is to have C Max Unger (foot) ready for the third preseason game.

Saints | Max Unger expected back in preseason Tue May 9, 11:41 AM
Updating previous reports, New Orleans Saints C Max Unger (foot) is expected to return during the preseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
|Footballguys view: This is the best news the Saints could hope for. There was speculation his availability for the start of the regular season was in doubt. Now, it seems like Unger should be worked back in sometime during training camp. We'll know more about this situation as the offseason rolls on.|

Saints | Max Unger had surgery Mon May 8, 02:39 PM
New Orleans Saints C Max Unger (foot) underwent surgery on his injured foot over the weekend, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Nick Mangold to the courtesy phone please! Well...maybe...the Saints may be looking to the veteran market to find a replacement. It's the same foot Unger had issues with in 2016. A timetable for Unger's recovery is unknown at this time.|
Saints | Max Unger suffers foot injury Mon May 8, 08:02 AM
New Orleans Saints C Max Unger (foot) suffered a foot injury, and he's likely to miss the start of the season, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Bad news for the Saints here. Unger is likely to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. That means he'll miss the first six weeks of the season automatically. After that, the Saints will have a three-week window to decide whether or not they want to activate him or put Unger on season-ending Injured Reserve.|
