Dolphins | Ndamukong Suh prefers Miami    Wed Mar 4, 10:26 PM

If Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh hits the open market, he has a slight preference for the Miami Dolphins over the Indianapolis Colts and Lions, according to a source close to Suh's camp. Florida also has no state income tax, and that could play a factor.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins seem to be the frontrunners to add Suh. There's a chance that he stays in Detroit, but we are likely to see him move on.

Lions | Not giving up on Ndamukong Suh    Wed Mar 4, 07:39 PM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh has had productive talks with the team this week, and the Lions are focused on trying to retain him, even though it will be tough.

Footballguys view: The Lions didn't want to lock Suh in with the franchise tag because it would have cost them in excess of $20 million in 2015. They'll keep the lines open, but we could see a few teams break the bank to add the disruptive defensive tackle.

Seahawks | Interested in Darnell Dockett    Wed Mar 4, 07:14 PM

Free-agent DT Darnell Dockett (Cardinals) has received interest from the Seattle Seahawks. However, he's expected to choose between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, March 4.

Footballguys view: That sounds like a move the Seahawks could make. Dockett may have been slowed a bit by injury at this point in his career, but he could be a great part-time pass-rusher for the Seattle defense.

Jets | Kendall Langford to visit Jets    Tue Mar 3, 09:49 PM

Free-agent DT Kendall Langford (Rams) is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Langford is a big, long-armed defensive tackle who played in a rotation for the Rams last year after the emergence of rookie DT Aaron Donald. The Jets could look to Langford as a starter and an impact player on their defense. Langford has been a solid starter for most of his pro career.

Impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh (Lions) is likely being considered by the New York Giants if he reaches free agency, according to league sources.

Free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh (Lions) will receive interest from the Washington Redskins should he hit free agency on Tuesday, March 10, per sources within the organization.

Footballguys view: Get in line. Washington needs a ton of help on both sides of the ball, but making a splash move for Suh would certainly help...and it certainly sounds like something Daniel Snyder would do.

Dolphins | Could pursue Ndamukong Suh    Mon Mar 2, 07:19 PM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh could be pursued by the Miami Dolphins this offseason if he becomes a free agent, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Detroit Lions LB Darryl Tapp re-signed a one-year, $870,000 deal with an $80,000 signing bonus Monday, March 2.

Footballguys view: It's not a lot of money for veteran depth. At this point in his career, that's what Tapp will give the Lions...if he makes the final roster.

Giants | Place franchise tag on Jason Pierre-Paul     Mon Mar 2, 01:58 PM

New York Giants impending free-agent DE Jason Pierre-Paul received the franchise tag Monday, March 2, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This move guarantees Pierre-Paul a one-year salary of $14.8 million in 2015. This is a non-exclusive tag which means the Giants can match any offer Pierre-Paul gets from other teams. If another team signs him, the Giants would be handed two first-round picks from his new team.

Buccaneers | Tampa not interested in Ndamukong Suh    Mon Mar 2, 10:35 AM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh is not a player the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are willing to break the bank on in free agency.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers already have a fantastic DT in Gerald McCoy. When healthy, he can be nearly as disruptive as Suh.

Lions | No tag for Ndamukong Suh    Mon Mar 2, 09:39 AM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh will not receive the franchise tag Monday, March 2.

Footballguys view: The Lions must feel pretty confident that they're going to keep Suh around with a new contract. If he hits the open market on March 10th, Suh will be one of the hottest names available. Teams can start negotiating with soon-to-be free agents on March 7th, so the clock is ticking for the Lions to get something done.

Dolphins | Kenrick Ellis might be backup plan    Sun Mar 1, 08:07 PM

The Miami Dolphins might have an interest in free-agent DT Kenrick Ellis (Jets) if they miss on a few other bigger names, as Ellis has a background with executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum.

Footballguys view: Ellis has incredible strength and ferocity on the defensive line. He's yet to fully play up to his potential, but the Dolphins could see his potential and feel all he needs is a second chance. If Ellis can stay healthy, he could be a nice part-time player in the middle of the line.

Dolphins | Ndamukong Suh unlikely to be added    Sun Mar 1, 08:06 PM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh is not expected to be a serious option for the Miami Dolphins, according to beat writer Barry Jackson.

Dolphins | Corey Peters on Miami's radar    Sun Mar 1, 08:06 PM

Free-agent DT Corey Peters (Falcons) is a player on the radar of the Miami Dolphins heading into free agency, a source said.

Dolphins | Terrance Knighton might be too costly    Sun Mar 1, 08:05 PM

The Miami Dolphins are interested in impending free-agent DT Terrance Knighton (Broncos), but he might be far more costly than some of their other targets and it is unclear if they can compete financially for him.

Footballguys view: Knighton has stated several times that he wants to stay in Denver. The Broncos would like to keep him around, but Knighton might be out of their price range.

Dolphins | Randy Starks awaits his fate    Sun Mar 1, 08:03 PM

Miami Dolphins DT Randy Starks is still awaiting word whether the team will keep him for 2015 or released him. He has a $6 million cap hit if he is on the team, and $1 million is he is jettisoned.

Footballguys view: Starks could be asked to take a pay cut, but that doesn't sound like it's an option right now. With only $1 million in dead money, the Dolphins might just choose to release Starks instead.

Raiders | LaMarr Woodley will be released    Sun Mar 1, 07:07 PM

The Oakland Raiders plan to release DE LaMarr Woodley, a league source said Sunday, March 1. He made just five tackles in six games before his season ended due to a torn biceps.

Footballguys view: The Raiders save $5.187 million against the salary cap without adding any dead money with the transaction. Last year, the Raiders added a bunch of older free agents like Woodley and it just didn't work out. Woodley is not the same player he used to be, and there may not be much interest in him on the open market.

Arizona Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett was released Friday, Feb. 27. The Cardinals would like to re-sign Dockett if he is not able to find a better offer from another team.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals would like to bring back Dockett...but the price has to be right. There are reports and rumors swirling that the two could not agree on his market value, and that's why he was released.

Redskins | Stephen Bowen let go    Fri Feb 27, 03:14 PM

Washington Redskins DE Stephen Bowen was released Friday, Feb. 27.

Footballguys view: The move saves Washington about $5.5 million in cap space. Knee injuries over the last two years have prevented Bowen from playing up to his potential. He's free to sign with any team at any time now that he's on the open market.

'I am going to continue to prepare to play again and will explore other possibilities to play the game I love,' Canty said. '[The Ravens] helped me re-discover and continue my passion for football, a game I respect and love.'

Footballguys view: We could see Canty returning to Baltimore in 2015. We'll see how the market responds to a player who is contemplating retirement.

Redskins | Ricky Jean-Francois signs    Thu Feb 26, 06:56 PM

Free-agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois (Colts) signed a three-year deal with the Washington Redskins Thursday, Feb. 26. The deal is worth $9 million with $4 million guaranteed and a total value of $11.25 million.

Footballguys view: The move makes a lot of sense for both sides. Washington general manager Scot McCloughan has ties to Jean-Francois. When he was GM of the 49ers, McCloughan selected Jean-Francois with a seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft. Jean-Francois gets to sign early before the real hysteria of free agency begins.

Rams | Kendall Langford released    Thu Feb 26, 04:09 PM

St. Louis Rams DT Kendall Langford was released Thursday, Feb. 26, saving the team $6 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall here since Langford lost his starting job in the fall to Aaron Donald. He should get plenty of interest on the open market now that he's been released.

Lions | Phillip Hunt to sign    Thu Feb 26, 04:02 PM

Free-agent DE Phillip Hunt (Eagles) will sign with the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: He's a longshot, but one the Lions felt was worth taking. Hunt was with the Eagles in Philadelphia when current Lions defensive line coach Jim Washburn was there. Hunt has not played in two seasons. He injured his ACL in 2013 and missed the entire year. Last season, the Colts took a shot on him but he was cut from the team before Week 1.

Panthers | Greg Hardy will look for reinstatement    Thu Feb 26, 02:18 PM

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy will seek immediate reinstatement after a judge overturned Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's suspension, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With a judge ruling the league overstepped its bounds in Peterson's case, expect the same result for Hardy. He should have some interest on the free agency market, as we're pretty sure the Panthers are done with him.

Lions | George Johnson status resolved    Thu Feb 26, 07:28 AM

Updating a previous report, free-agent DE George Johnson (Lions) is considered a restricted free agent by both the NFL and the NFL Players Association.

Footballguys view: Johnson had played parts of the last five years in the NFL, so his status as a free agent was up in the air. At age 27, Johnson could interest some teams--even as a restricted free agent--depending on his tender level.

  49ers | Ricky Jean-Francois to visit    Wed Feb 25, 12:07 PM

Free-agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois (Colts) is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The 49ers interest makes a ton of sense. Jean-Francois played under new head coach Jim Tomsula when he was with the team from 2009-2012. The 49ers need a backup plan in case Justin Smith decides to retire.

Redskins | Meeting with Ricky Jean-Francois    Wed Feb 25, 12:07 PM

Free-agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois (Colts) is scheduled to meet with the Washington Redskins this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Colts made the move to get rid of Jean-Francois in an effort to gain more salary cap space. He could still be an effective player for the right team. Washington could use Jean-Francois at left end because they're expected to lose Jarvis Jenkins in free agency.

Ravens | Trying to restructure Haloti Ngata's deal    Tue Feb 24, 09:20 PM

The Baltimore Ravens are trying to restructure the contract of DT Haloti Ngata, as he heads into the final year of a five-year, $61 million deal.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the two sides can get something done here. Ngata carries a team-high $16 million salary cap figure and $8.5 million base salary.

Ravens | Haloti Ngata receives offer    Tue Feb 24, 11:30 AM

Baltimore Ravens DT Haloti Ngata received a 'very good offer' from the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Ravens want to lessen Ngata's cap hit this year, so some form of extension would make sense. He's one of the best at his position, and his presence in the middle helps free up the playmakers behind him on defense. He's got a $16 million cap hit this year with $7.5 million in dead money.

Lions | George Johnson's free agent status questioned    Tue Feb 24, 02:17 AM

Free-agent DE George Johnson (Lions) may or may not be an unrestricted free agent. A player must accumulate four accrued seasons to earn unrestricted free agency, and players must spend six weeks on a 53-man roster to earn an accrued year. Johnson did this in 2011, 2012 and 2014, but in 2013 he was paid for six weeks but was on the Minnesota Vikings' roster for only five.

Denver Broncos impending free-agent DT Terrance Knighton, OG Orlando Franklin and FS Rahim Moore are not expected to return to the team next season.

Footballguys view: Knighton could move on to the Oakland Raiders where he'd be reunited with Jack Del Rio for a third time in his career. Franklin probably will get some looks at tackle again, and Moore might be a bit too pricey for the Broncos to keep around.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent DE Da'Quan Bowers has been a bust since being drafted in 2011, and he was in danger of being cut last summer. The current regime in Tampa has nothing invested in his future.
