Lions | Ziggy Ansah's option will top $12 million Tue May 3, 11:18 AM
Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah's fifth-year option in 2017 will be worth $12.374 million.
|Footballguys view: It's an easy price to pay for a pass-rusher like Ansah. The Lions get him at a bargain price (for one year) before he gets a huge contract as a free agent.|

Lions | Detroit add several UDFAs Tue May 3, 02:59 AM
Undrafted free-agents CB Adairius Barnes (Louisiana Tech), WR Jace Billingsley (Eastern Oregon), WR Quinshad Davis (North Carolina), DL James DeLoach (Georgia), DE Deonte Gibson (Northwestern), WR Jay Lee (Baylor), CB Charles Washington (Fresno State), CB Ian Wells (Ohio), TE Cole Wick (Incarnate Word) and OL Andrew Zeller (Maryland) agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions Monday, May 2. WR Simms McElfresh (Appalachian State), LB Tyler Roberts (Troy) and DL Roger Stewart (Hillsdale) will also be with the team during rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
|Footballguys view: Lee is the player to highlight here. He's got long arms and can snare passes away from his frame regularly. His game is comparable to that of Chris Chambers, former Dolphins standout wide receiver. In super deep dynasty leagues, we'll be keeping an eye on Lee.|

Lions | Ziggy Ansah's option exercised Mon May 2, 10:44 AM
Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 2.
|Footballguys view: This was a no-brainer decision for the Lions. With 30.5 sacks over the last three seasons, Ansah is one of the league's best pass-rushers. The option pays him 12.7 million in 2017 which is an incredibly affordable price with the current market for players like him. We'll see if the Lions can lock him down with a long-term deal as reports indicate they have no plans of doing so.|

Vikings | Sharrif Floyd has option exercised Mon May 2, 10:43 AM
Minnesota Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 2.
|Footballguys view: Floyd has not put together a 16-game season over the last two years, but when healthy he can be an impact player. He's huge and tough to move as a run-stuffer. The option is worth $6.7 million in 2017.|

Austin) and LB Kyrie Wilson (Fresno State) on undisclosed deals Saturday, April 30.
|Footballguys view: McCaffrey is the player to watch here. The son of former Denver Broncos WR Ed McCaffrey, Max displayed a ton of speed on film and at Duke's pro day. He was a standout player during the week of practice for the NFLPA game earlier this year, and McCaffrey has no problem regularly taking the top off the defense.|

Saints | Sheldon Rankins linked to Saints Thu Apr 28, 01:26 PM
Louisville DT Sheldon Rankins has been linked to the New Orleans Saints in the first round.
|Footballguys view: The Saints need defensive help, so we could totally see Rankins ending up with the Saints. An exceptionally productive player both as a bullrusher and edge rusher Rankins would be a great help to the defense.|
Falcons | Atlanta likes Clemons linemen Wed Apr 27, 04:43 PM
Clemson Des Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd could be options for the Atlanta Falcons with their No. 17 overall pick. The consensus of pundits has the Falcons taking Ohio State LB Darron Lee with that pick, however.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons will look defense in almost any scenario. Lee would add a lot of speed to their linebacking corps, while Lawson and Dodd would be instant additions of pass rush punch and stout run defense from the edge.|
NFL | Stock rising for two defensive linemen Wed Apr 27, 04:04 PM
The draft stock of Louisville DT Sheldon Rankins and Mississippi State DT Chris D. Jones continues to rise a day before the NFL Draft. Rankins and Jones are viewed by many teams to be the best interior pass-rushers in this year's draft.
|Footballguys view: Rankins could go in the top 12 and Jones could go in the first round, as players like Aaron Donald have shown the immense value of interior pass rush.|
Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson trade unlikely Wed Apr 27, 12:39 PM
New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson is unlikely to be traded after the team fielded calls and experienced little action.
|Footballguys view: Wilkerson is an elite defensive lineman who can play multiple spots along the defensive line. While he'll have to be paid to market value for his services, it's hard to believe teams expect more from a first round pick, even at a discount. This could be to the Jets gain in the long run.|

Colts | Jihad Ward meets with Colts Wed Apr 27, 10:33 AM
Illinois DT Jihad Ward met with Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson Tuesday, April 26.
|Footballguys view: Ward is versatile and athletic, but he is still a project as a defensive lineman after starting his junior college career as a wide receiver/safety. The Colts should be looking at him in the second round, although his ceiling could get him into first round consideration.|
Dolphins | Cameron Wake able to practice Wed Apr 27, 12:42 AM
Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles') was able to practice Tuesday, April 26, just six months after tearing his Achilles' tendon. He worked on a limited basis, and didn't participate in team or 7-on-7 drills, but still impressive fellow DE Andre Branch. 'That's awesome. He's definitely a vet in his league. He's been playing at a high level for a long period of time. He leads by example. He's the type of player you follow,' Branch said. Head coach Adam Gase said the goal is to have Wake 100 percent when training camp arrives.
|Footballguys view: Wake is in the last year of his contract, but the Dolphins only have Mario Williams at defensive end after him when looking for proven players at the position. This terrific recovery timeline for Wake could help his case to get a one or two-year extension from the team before free agency next year.|

Giants | Jason Pierre-Paul confident for 2016 Tue Apr 26, 06:43 PM
New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) said he will be better than he was in 2015, adding that he is still the player he used to be. Pierre-Paul will wear a special glove on his injured hand in 2016 to help him rush better.
|Footballguys view: The defensive end said he's recovered from his offseason surgery and has no limitations. Participating in minicamp will help him, too, he admitted, as he refused to participate in offseason workouts last year.|

Carolina Panthers DT Star Lotulelei had his fifth-year option exercised Tuesday, April 26.
|Footballguys view: A great move for the Panthers here. Picking up the option will cost the team $6.7 million...a price easy to pay for one of the best in the league at his position. Expect the Panthers to now try and lock up fellow DT K.K. Short with a long-term deal.|

Bengals | Michael Johnson was injured last year Mon Apr 25, 03:15 PM
Cincinnati Bengals DE Michael Johnson (back) was hampered by a back issue much of last season. He's feeling healthy now, though.
|Footballguys view: That explains a lot. Last year, Johnson entered the season with knee problems but it was this back issue that kept his production down. That's two years in a row with disappointing numbers. We'll see if a healthy Johnson can get back on track in 2016.|

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson isn't being actively shopped, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini opined that the Jets are interested in moving Wilkerson.
|Footballguys view: This goes against every report about Wilkerson since the franchise tag was put on him. The Jets may just be playing hard to get in this negotiation process.|

Vikings | Two Vikings options likely picked up Thu Apr 21, 02:44 AM
Minnesota Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd and CB Xavier Rhodes are likely to have their fifth-year player options picked up for 2017. Floyd's option is worth $6.757 million, and Rhodes' is worth $8.026 million.
|Footballguys view: Both have been solid for the Vikings, so picking up their options is only good sense. They'll definitely command some good money when that's over, though.|

49ers | No timeline for Ian Williams Wed Apr 20, 11:09 PM
San Francisco 49ers DT Ian Williams (ankle) had offseason ankle surgery, and general manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday, April 20, that he did not have a timeline on when Williams would be ready to play. 'Still underdetermined,' Baalke said. 'But he's making very good progress.'
|Footballguys view: Another guy the Niners would love to have back, especially since he is outstanding against the run.|

49ers | Glenn Dorsey making progress Wed Apr 20, 11:09 PM
San Francisco 49ers DT Glenn Dorsey (knee) is making 'great progress,' according to general manager Trent Baalke, as the defensive tackle makes his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, it is too soon to say if he'll be ready for the regular season opener. 'I'm never going to give a definitive because you don't know,' Baalke said. 'You could always have a setback, but right now he's made great progress. Looks good.'
|Footballguys view: The Niners could use the help defensively, but they won't push him and risk setting him back. If he can do some work during camp, that will be a good sign, but we are guessing the Niners will plan not to have him for a chunk of the season, just in case.|

Texans | J.J. Watt close to full health Wed Apr 20, 04:53 PM
Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin, abdomen) is close to completing his rehabilitation from groin and abdominal injuries that required surgery in January. Watt said he feels good and is close to 100% as he participates in the Texans' offseason conditioning program.
|Footballguys view: The Texans would like to replicate the plan the Broncos won the Super Bowl with, winning with defense and a mediocre offense. They have the pieces for the offense, courtesy of signing Brock Osweiler, and Watt is a vital piece of the defense that has to do the heavy lifting.|
J.J. Watt player page
Seahawks | Chris Jones visits with Seattle Wed Apr 20, 01:47 PM
Mississippi State DT Chris D. Jones visited with the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, April 19, according to sources. Jones could be a first-round draft pick. Jones has also met with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.
|Footballguys view: Jones is a guy whose value rose this past season and who has shown flashes of great production on tape and in games. His quickness off the snap and versatile skillset are something the Seahawks look for and he could be a great fit in the defense.|
Bills | Jarius Wynn moving to linebacker Wed Apr 20, 12:41 AM
Buffalo Bills DE Jarius Wynn (knee) said in a radio interview Tuesday, April 19, that he has dropped 20 pounds and will play outside linebacker in 2016. He is making his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and he missed the 2015 season as a result. Wynn has been a career-long 3-4 defensive end and 4-3 defensive end.
|Footballguys view: Rex Ryan finds value in guys who can do more than one thing and is adept at finding getting guys to play in positions and ways they normally don't. That said, we're not expecting a ton immediately from Wynn and continue to be concerned by the Bills defense coming into this year coached by an underwhelming Rob Ryan.|
