Broncos | DeMarcus Ware sitting out    Wed Jul 30, 02:20 PM

Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware (leg) is not participating in practice Wednesday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Ware's injury is minor, but you'd prefer to see him not showing his age this early in camp. Adding his ability to generate knockout plays as a pass rusher was part of the Broncos offseason response to a bitterly disappointing blowout Super Bowl loss.

Bengals | Geno Atkins activated    Wed Jul 30, 10:22 AM

Cincinnati Bengals DT Geno Atkins (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: The team will ease Atkins into the lineup as he continues to recover from this knee injury. We can't imagine Atkins getting much playing time in the preseason. He's a seasoned vet who gives a huge boost to the defense when healthy.

Lions | Ndamukong Suh to explore free agency?    Tue Jul 29, 07:31 PM

Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh has been given permission to explore free agency in order to gauge his market value. The Lions want Suh to make an informed decision and sign a deal he's happy with.

Footballguys view: This is....interesting to say the least. Suh hitting the open market means he's likely going to leave Detroit next year. The team doesn't want to franchise tag Suh next offseason because he would cost $26.7 million. The Lions are risking a lot in potentially (likely) giving up one of the league's most dominant interior lineman. Perhaps Suh's antics have grown tired in Detroit.

Patriots | Dominique Easley injury update    Tue Jul 29, 11:30 AM

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots DT Dominique Easley (knee) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list as he works his way back from an Oct. 25, 2013, anterior cruciate ligament tear. Easley practiced the final day of June minicamp but was since placed on NFI. According to sources, he did not suffer a setback and still hopes to return for Week 1. Easley is still rehabbing the injury to regain full strength.

Footballguys view: The team has no need to rush Easley back. He'll be a huge boost for the defense when healthy, but if they need to limit him to start the season so be it. Easley can be dominant up front with his strength and initial quickness.

Lions | Two making progress    Mon Jul 28, 06:22 PM

Detroit Lions WR T.J. Jones (shoulder) and DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder) are making progress in his rehab, but there are no timetables for their returns, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Both players are on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: The pair shouldn't be sidelined for long, but Ansah needs to get rolling soon to stay on the upside DE2 train in IDP leagues. He was tremendous in his rookie year when he was healthy, but that was far too rare, so it is important to see him healthy before drafting him too early in IDP leagues.

New York Jets DE Jason Babin will make $1.6 million this year that includes a $1.1 million base salary and a $500,000 roster bonus. He is expected to have a $1.35 million base salary in 2015 with an option bonus of $250,000.

Lions | Ndamukong Suh contract talks pushed back    Mon Jul 28, 03:25 PM

Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh's contract extension discussion will be put on hold until the end of the season, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Suh could end up getting the franchise tag next offseason, although that seems like a longshot at this time. The veteran defensive tackle has an inflated salary and would cost $26.7 million to franchise tag in 2015. We could see Suh hit the open market if the Lions can't work something out before the start of free agency.

Cardinals | Dan Williams' injury not considered serious    Mon Jul 28, 02:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals DT Dan Williams (knee) is not expected to participate in practice Monday, July 28, but the team does not believe his knee injury is serious.

Redskins | Everette Brown signed    Mon Jul 28, 02:14 PM

The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent LB Everette Brown (Cowboys). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brown has washed out in every stop he's made in the NFL. Originally a second-round pick for the Carolina Panthers in 2009, Brown has struggled with staying healthy and producing when he's not banged up. He had phenomenal talent coming out of Florida State, but he only has six sacks in four seasons as a pro.

New England Patriots DT Vince Wilfork (Achilles') said his surgically repaired Achilles' tendon responded well during one-on-one rush drills during practice Saturday, July 26.

Footballguys view: Getting Wilfork back will be a huge boost for the Patriots defense. He has the size to eat up double teams, and he has the quickness to get middle push as a pass-rusher.
