Carolina Panthers DE Kony Ealy tied a Super Bowl record with 3.0 sacks in a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday, Feb. 7. He also had an interception.

Colts | Henry Anderson out for Week 1?    Sat Feb 6, 03:50 PM

Indianapolis Colts DE Henry Anderson (knee) is not expected to be ready for Week 1 of the 2016 regular season.

Footballguys view: No surprise here as Anderson tore his ACL in early November. Even an accelerated recovery would put him near full strength after the start of the regular season. We should get an update from head coach Chuck Pagano at the Scouting Combine later this month.

Panthers | Jared Allen to start Sunday    Fri Feb 5, 04:36 PM

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) will start Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, Feb. 7, according to head coach Ron Rivera, after sitting out the NFC Championship Game.

Footballguys view: Allen has a chance to get a ring in his first Super Bowl, and late in his career. The Panthers have needed him after suffering multiple injuries at defensive end. He'll get a chance to set his sights on an especially immobile Peyton Manning.

Panthers | Thomas Davis, Jared Allen on track    Thu Feb 4, 12:08 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) and DE Jared Allen (foot) remain on track to play in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos after both practiced Wednesday, Feb. 3. Allen was limited, but the move was precautionary, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Davis was a full participant and wore a protective cast over his arm. Rivera said Davis will have his arm looked at by doctors again Friday, Feb. 5, but his full practice load was an indication he'll play.

Footballguys view: Sounds good for both guys and once you get them on the field it's going to be tough to get them out of the game. It's the Super Bowl of course.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller not top priority for Miami    Wed Feb 3, 07:29 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent RB Lamar Miller is not at the top of the Dolphins' priority list this offseason. Re-signing DE Olivier Vernon will be at the forefront of the Miami organization.

Footballguys view: Same as it ever was. During his entire Dolphins career it just seemed like Miller wasn't used enough or used quite in the right way. Miller is going to be in a jam-packed free agent market at the RB position, but he's going to be one of the best backs available. There should be several teams interested.

Redskins | Ziggy Hood sticks with team    Wed Feb 3, 01:02 AM

The Washington Redskins re-signed DE Ziggy Hood to a one-year deal Tuesday, Feb. 2, according to a source. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick for the Steelers in 2009, Hood has struggled with inconsistency and injury during his entire pro career. Just in 2015, Hood played for the Jaguars and the Bears. He worked out for Washington last month, and Hood will compete for a spot on the depth chart this offseason.

Raiders | Future unclear for Mario Edwards    Tue Feb 2, 08:57 PM

Oakland Raiders DE Mario Edwards Jr. (neck) has a separate issue that his neck injury revealed that could be genetic, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie. There are more tests to come.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are always tricky to deal with--especially if there's a problem that is genetic. A second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, Edwards showed well as a rookie both as a run-stuffer and pass-rusher. In 14 games, Edwards finished the 2015 season with 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 2 passes defensed.

Panthers | Jared Allen says he's ready    Tue Feb 2, 08:31 AM

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) practiced Monday, Feb. 1, and said he's 100% ready to play in the Super Bowl. 'I feel great,' Allen said. 'Honestly, I feel, hopefully, I'll be a tremendous factor in this game. So, as far as physically, 100% ready to go, just preparing like normal.'

Footballguys view: We can't believe Allen is actually going to play with this severe foot injury, but hey...guys have played in the Super Bowl with a broken leg (Jack Youngblood anyone?). He'll be on the field as a part-time pass-rusher against the Broncos.

Rams | Key defenders looking at free agency    Mon Feb 1, 03:45 PM

St. Louis Rams DT Nick Fairley, DE William Hayes, SS Mark Barron, DE Eugene Sims, FS Rodney McLeod and CBs Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins will enter free agency this offseason if they are not re-signed. McLeod is a restricted free agent while the rest are unrestricted free agents.

Footballguys view: According to OverTheCap.com, the Rams are set to have $32 million in cap space. That's a lot of money to be active in free agency, but it may not be enough to keep everyone listed above.

Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence (back) underwent back surgery to fix an issue which bothered him for much of the second half of the 2015 season, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Footballguys view: Lawrence should be ready for OTAs and minicamp. He played with this injury and performed well in 2015. Lawrence led the team with eight sacks in 2015, and he should once again be a quality defensive end for them in 2016.

Cowboys | Greg Hardy not returning    Fri Jan 29, 10:29 AM

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy is not expected to be re-signed by the team due to excessive partying.

Footballguys view: Should anyone be shocked by this? Hardy is already a handful because of the baggage and reputation he comes with. Excessive partying and still being a problem when the Cowboys gave him a second chance is not going to help his chances of staying with the team.

Broncos | Von Miller biggest free agent    Wed Jan 27, 04:26 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent LB Von Miller figures to be at the top of the Broncos' priority list this offseason, especially coming off a dominating performance in the AFC Championship. Denver's other big-name impending free agents on defense include DE Malik Jackson and LB Danny Trevathan.

Footballguys view: We're expecting Miller to get the franchise tag when possible. Then, the Broncos would have until mid-July to get a long-term contract done with Miller. With his play in the postseason, Miller is in line to be the next $100 million linebacker.

Bills | Kyle Williams should be ready for camp    Tue Jan 26, 04:41 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Kyle Williams (knee) is expected to be ready for training camp, according to general manager Doug Whaley. Williams is recovering from meniscus surgery.

Footballguys view: Williams is an important player up front on the Bills defense. Don't be surprised if the Bills hold him out of the entire offseason program due to this injury. They could ramp him up later in training camp if Williams is on track to be ready for Week 1.

Falcons | Vic Beasley won't need surgery    Mon Jan 25, 05:58 PM

Atlanta Falcons LB Vic Beasley (shoulder) will not have surgery on his torn labrum, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: Beasley played with this injury for most of his rookie season. He was the team's best pass-rusher even though he only had four sacks in 2015. Next season, we should see Beasley improve his game and be more productive...at least that's what the Falcons are hoping for.

Panthers | Jared Allen expects to play in SB50    Mon Jan 25, 02:23 AM

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) said Sunday, Jan. 24, that the next two weeks will be the longest of his life, but he expects to play in Super Bowl 50 against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Feb. 7.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see if Allen can pull this off. This foot injury was originally thought to be season-ending, but with two more weeks of rest we could see the veteran pass-rusher inserted as a part-time player against the Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent DT Jaye Howard might be slapped with the transition tag, former agent and salary-cap expert Joel Corry suggested Saturday, Jan. 23.

Lions | Caraun Reid had surgery    Sat Jan 23, 03:51 PM

Detroit Lions DT Caraun Reid (ankle) recently underwent ankle surgery, but he is expected to be back on the field sometime this offseason.

Footballguys view: Reid, a fifth-round pick out of Princeton in 2014, is a player with good upside. He flashed at times this year even though he was battling a high-ankle sprain suffered in training camp. Having surgery now will help insure that he's good to go when camp rolls around later this year.
