Texans | Aaron Colvin pleasing Houston coaches    Mon Jun 17, 02:09 PM

Houston Texans CB Aaron Colvin was limited to 10 games, two starts, 29 tackles and one pass defensed due to an ankle injury after signing a four-year, $34 million contract that included $18 million guaranteed last offseason. However, he has impressed the coaching staff so far this offseason.'He's had a good offseason. He's been here every day, he's worked hard. I think he's definitely in that group of players that have improved, which is a big group. But there's definitely been improvement because he's been out there every day. He's been healthy, he's been working. He's a hard worker. He definitely takes a good professional approach to every day,' head coach Bill O'Brien told the Houston Chronicle.

Footballguys view: Colvin is likely to be the slot corner for the Texans in 2019. This news is good news for Colvin as he struggled in 2018 through 10 games in his first season with the Texans. It sounds like he could be in for a bounce-back year.

Texans | Bradley Roby limited by injury    Sun Jun 16, 01:59 PM

Houston Texans CB Bradley Roby (undisclosed) has been sidelined most of the offseason by an undisclosed soft-tissue injury. 'He hasn't done much, so we'll just have to see (him) in training camp,' O'Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins played through pain    Sun Jun 9, 01:06 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins said Saturday, June 8, he endured a tough season in 2018 in which he had to deal with nagging pain from foot and shoulder injuries and overcome mental hurdles. 'Last year was tough, not just physically but mentally,' Hopkins told the Houston Chronicle. 'It's the most banged up I've ever been playing football. I was dealing with serious injuries a lot of people would have sat down for. But we had a good team that depended on me, and I never gave a thought to not playing unless the doctors told me I couldn't.'

Footballguys view: Hopkins production never dipped, and that included long stretches without credible #2 or #3 options on the field. If he and Deshaun Watson stay healthy this year, Hopkins could set new career highs. He deserves to be the first wide receiver off of the board in fantasy drafts, but will face competition from Davante Adams for that honor.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins should be ready for camp    Sat Jun 8, 05:02 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (ankle) has been recovering from an ankle injury this offseason but should be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Hopkins fought through injuries last season but is expected to be 100 percent healthy for Week 1. He's a no-brainer WR1 and an option to be a top-5 pick in fantasy drafts of any format. His current ADP is WR2 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Texans | Kahale Warring under contract    Thu Jun 6, 02:46 AM

Houston Texans TE Kahale Warring signed his rookie contract on Wednesday, June 5. The third-round pick was the final member of the Texans' 2019 draft class to sign.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on the athletic Aztec tight end now that he's in the pros. Warring, a third-round pick out of San Diego State, is only a few years into his football career. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school but only spent one year as a prep on the gridiron. Warring is a project, but he has the tools to be a quality starter in the NFL one day. He's big, physical and athletic enough to make big plays from the tight end position. Warring is a player we will watch closely in dynasty formats.

Texans | Jordan Thomas impressing    Thu May 30, 10:30 AM

Houston Texans TE Jordan M. Thomas has made eye-popping and leaping catches during organized team activities. Thomas, who switched to tight end from wide receiver as a rookie last year, has had a strong offseason.

Footballguys view: Thomas was a converted wide receiver from Mississippi State as a rookie in 2018, and he is still learning the position. He's a huge prospect, measuring in at 6'6" 280 pounds and knows how to use his size as an advantage. A sixth-round pick for the Texans in 2018, Thomas recorded 20 catches for 215 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The upside is there for him to do a lot more. We're monitoring him in dynasty formats and in re-draft leagues, Thomas could be a TE3 with TE2 upside in 2019.

Texans | Bradley Roby not practicing    Wed May 29, 05:27 PM

Texans | Keith Mumphery planning comeback    Sun May 26, 11:11 PM

Free-agent WR Keith Mumphery (Texans) is attempting to return to the NFL. 'It's go-time now,' Mumphery said. 'It's time to get back to the dream. I've been waiting on this opportunity and I'm excited.'

Footballguys view: Mumphery has been out of the league since 2017. The Texans let him go at the time in the wake of sexual assault allegations. No charges were ever filed and now Mumphery is working to make a comeback. He made 27 appearances for the Texans in 2015 and 2016 but only had 24 catches over that time.

Texans | Taiwan Jones financial details    Sat May 25, 10:49 AM

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Taiwan Jones' one-year, $1.02 million contract includes a base salary of $930,000 with a $45,000 signing bonus and a $45,000 roster bonus. His salary cap figure is $735,000 and the deal includes an injury waiver.

Footballguys view: Jones was probably signed for his special teams contributions more than his value as a back, but we'll monitor any back on this roster with Lamar Miller and D'Onta Foreman not the most durable or overachieving duo in the league. He also had a short stint at defensive back during his time with the Raiders.

Texans | Justin Reid not 100 percent yet    Tue May 21, 06:55 PM

Houston Texans S Justin Reid (wrist) participated in practice Tuesday, May 21, but said he has not fully recovered from offseason wrist surgery.

Footballguys view: Reid played well last year as a rookie and had wrist surgery back in January to clean up the problem. He said he should be 100 percent before the start of the regular season.

Texans | Keke Coutee catching his coach's eye    Tue May 21, 02:29 PM

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee has enjoyed a good spring and has 'really improved,' according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: Coutee has a ton of skill but he just needs to stay healthy. He played in only six games last year but flashed potential with the Texans passing game. We'll see if Coutee can stay healthy and produce behind DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller in 2019.

Texans | Houston pleased with D'Onta Foreman    Tue May 21, 02:16 PM

Texans | Floyd Allen hooks up with Houston    Mon May 20, 03:39 PM

Undrafted rookie free-agent WR Floyd Allen (Mississippi) signed an undisclosed contract with the Houston Texans on Monday, May 20.

Footballguys view: Allen's journey to the NFL has been a wild one to say the least. From an ACL tear in high school, to four colleges in five years, to battling a season-ending ankle injury, to being homeless and sleeping in his car - Allen has never given up on his dream to play in the NFL. He's a Houston native and gets to stay close to home with the opportunity to impress the Texans. At 5'10" 199 pounds, Allen has good athleticism and run-after-the-catch ability. We love his story, will monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats but know that he's a long-shot to make the team.

Texans | Ryan Griffin done in Houston    Fri May 17, 04:18 PM

Houston Texans TE Ryan Griffin was released Friday, May 17.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick for the Texans in the 2013 NFL draft, Griffin usually catches around 20 or so passes each season -- although there was the one year (2016) when he caught 50 passes for the Texans. His standing with the team was on shaky ground after Griffin was charged with vandalism and public intoxication after allegedly punching through a window at his Nashville hotel in late April. The Texans move forward with Jordan Thomas and rookie Kahale Warring as the top two options at the position. Griffin should get another shot before training camp.

Free-agent RB Taiwan Jones (Bills) signed with the Houston Texans Wednesday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Texans | Houston signs Xavier Woodson-Luster    Sun May 12, 05:07 PM

Free-agent LB Xavier Woodson-Luster (Browns) signed with the Houston Texans Sunday, May 12, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived LB Chase Middleton.

Footballguys view: Woodson-Luster projects best as an inside linebacker playing on early downs. He was previously in the 2017 draft class and spent time in the Raiders, Bills, and Browns organizations.

Texans | Best to come from Deshaun Watson?    Fri May 10, 10:17 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson will 'always make a jump' in performance, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. 'I've always said that I don't think there's any ceiling on Deshaun Watson,' O'Brien said.

Footballguys view: Watson has been doing his thing behind maybe the worst offensive line in the league. The team invested a first and second round pick in the line this year, but it could take time for those picks to pay dividends. Watson could also benefit from a full year of good health from Will Fuller and Keke Coutee.

Texans | Lonnie Johnson signs rookie deal    Fri May 10, 02:36 AM

Houston Texans CB Lonnie Johnson signed a four-year, $5.24 million contract on Thursday, May 9. The deal includes $3.03 million in guarantees.

Footballguys view: Johnson is everything you want in a corner physically, but needs work where the rubber meets the road in game plan. The Texans have a huge opening at corner next year with their current contract situations and depth chart, so they'll hope he's ready to leverage his considerable physical gifts by next season, with the likelihood of some seasoning in subpackages this year.

Texans | Deshaun Watson did solid work outside pocket    Tue May 7, 11:32 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson threw for 686 yards outside of the pocket in 2018 - the third-highest total in the NFL - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Watson had 8 touchdowns compared to 2 interceptions on those passes. His 65.4 percent completion on passes outside the pocket ranked 2nd in the league for quarterbacks with 75 or more such attempts. The Texans spent draft capital this offseason to upgrade the offensive line and hopefully protect Watson better in 2019.

Texans | Rashad Greene worked out    Fri May 3, 07:54 PM

Free-agent WR Rashad Greene (Jaguars) worked out for the Houston Texans Friday, May 3, but no deal is imminent at this point.

Footballguys view: Greene was a fifth-round pick for the Jaguars in 2015 coming out of Florida State. He only has 30 catches as a pro, and Greene's career has been beset by injury. We'll see if he can latch on somewhere before training camp.

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney is still in the team's plans to sign a long-term deal, according to general manager Brian Gaine.

Footballguys view: Clowney wants a new deal and the two sides have until mid-July to work something out. Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL, so we likely won't have any answer on this until that time.

Texans | Keke Coutee aiming to stay healthy    Thu Apr 18, 09:46 PM

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee said his main goal for the 2019 season is to be able to play all 16 games.

Footballguys view: That would be nice. Coutee is a dangerous playmaker with the ball in his hands. The Texans need a threat other than DeAndre Hopkins to emerge...and stay healthy...in the passing game. Coutee will compete with Will Fuller for that role, even though Fuller is more of a no.2 WR and Coutee is more of a no.3 WR.

Texans | D'Onta Foreman in good condition    Thu Apr 18, 02:09 PM

Houston Texans RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles) returned to the team in good shape, according to general manager Brian Gaine.

Footballguys view: Foreman only appeared in two games in 2018, including the playoffs. His second season was lost due to this injury but now that he's healthy Foreman should push Lamar Miller for playing time. Pay attention to this battle, and Foreman's effectiveness, in the preseason.

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (knee) is fully anticipated to be ready for the Texans' regular-season opener, according to general manager Brian Gaine. 'Everything is trending in the right direction,' Gaine said Thursday, April 19. 'Everything is looking good.'

Footballguys view: Fuller brings speed to stretch the field for the Texans offense when he's healthy. The talent is there but man alive does he get banged up a lot. We're excited that Fuller will be ready for the season opener in 2019 but there's also some trepidation given his injury history.

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney, the team's unsigned franchise player, will not attend the offseason conditioning program or organized team activities (OTAs). Beat writer Aaron Wilson says there is no deal in sight, and no signing is expected anytime soon.

Footballguys view: Clowney and the Texans have until July 15th to agree to a new long-term deal. They aren't close to that yet, but deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. Perhaps as we get closer to mid-July something will give. Some out there think this could get ugly.

Texans | Will Fuller a near lock for Week 1?    Sun Apr 14, 04:41 PM

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (knee) will be at 10 months removed from tearing an anterior cruciate ligament when Week 1 begins. In the opinion of HoustonTexans.com's Drew Dougherty, he'll be 'stunned' if Fuller isn't on the field for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Fuller may be on the field at that time but he may not be 100 percent. They will likely ease him into action once training camp hits in August. We'll see if Fuller can stay healthy and produce. Talent is not an issue with the young receiver, but he has yet to play a full 16-game season in three years as a pro.
