Texans | More muscle for DeAndre Hopkins Mon May 23, 05:46 PM
Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins said he has gained more weight by adding muscle this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Added strength should help Hopkins win contested catches. It may also help with his yards after contact. Last year, Hopkins tied for 107th in the league with only 57 yards after contact. By comparison, Falcons WR Julio Jones was the top wideout in the league with 261 yards after contact. Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski led all receivers in the league with 289 yards after contact in 2015.|

Texans | Jadeveon Clowney full healthy Mon May 23, 04:11 PM
Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (foot) said he is at 100% health. Clowney dealt with a mid-foot sprain late last season but did not undergo offseason surgery.
|Footballguys view: Are we sure about that? Clowney's pro career has been marred by injury, and he may never be the player the Texans envisioned when they selected him with the no.1 overall pick in 2014. If he is healthy, then he's going to be relied on to create pressure on opposing QBs opposite superstar DE J.J. Watt.|

Texans | J.J. Watt not practicing Mon May 23, 03:48 PM
Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) did not practice for the first day of organized team activities Monday, May 23, as he continues to recover from offseason groin surgery.
|Footballguys view: Watt's a pro's pro. He doesn't need every offseason rep, but we're sure that as soon as he's ready he's going to be out there on the field.|

Texans | Will Fuller will be tested early Sun May 22, 09:16 PM
Houston Texans WR Will Fuller and WR Braxton Miller will work against veteran cornerbacks when OTAs begin.
|Footballguys view: The rookies will need to prove themselves on the practice field if they want a chance to earn snaps on Sunday. Fuller is a speedy target who reminds some in the scouting community of Ted Ginn. Miller is a converted QB with crazy athleticism and who is still learning the position after only one year of playing WR in college at Ohio State.|
Texans | Lamar Miller comfortable with offense Sun May 22, 12:34 AM
Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller said the offensive concepts are similar to those he used as a member of the Miami Dolphins, with some differences in terminology, and he said finding his way around Houston has been tougher than learning the playbook.
|Footballguys view: A comfortable Miller can be a dangerous RB with a ton of potential for fantasy owners. Even though he's been a top-10 fantasy RB each of the last two years, we don't think we've seen the best from Miller. He could post career-best numbers in his first year with the Texans. They'll rely on Miller to do the heavy lifting for the offense, and his production will help keep their strong defense fresh. We love his current ADP of RB7 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Texans | Nick Martin signs rookie pact Fri May 13, 02:40 PM
Houston Texans C Nick Martin signed his rookie four-year deal Friday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Martin was the team's second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and he should be a quality player for years to come. He's strong and has a nasty attitude in the trenches. Martin is versatile and can line up at guard or center.|
Texans | Brock Osweiler learning new offense Wed May 11, 11:14 PM
Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said Wednesday, May 11, that it has been fun learning a new offense and trying to get comfortable in his new surroundings. 'It's fun,' Osweiler said. 'It's hard to judge that progress because we haven't hit the practice field and gone against a defense, but it's like you speak Spanish your whole life and then all of a sudden one day, they tell you to go learn French and do it in front of 70,000 people.'
|Footballguys view: While not everyone here at Footballguys is a big Osweiler acolyte (Brockolyte?), even the most skeptical of us have been rolling our eyes over the concern about this. Every quarterback in a new system has referred to learning that system in this way. It's far too early to start rending your clothes and tearing out your hair over this. Many of us may not be sold on Osweiler, but this news blurb isn't anything to get worked up about yet.|

Texans | Kevin Johnson feeling stronger Tue May 10, 10:05 PM
Houston Texans CB Kevin Johnson (wrist, foot), returning from wrist and foot surgeries, said Tuesday, May 10, that he is feeling good. 'I'm feeling good, continuing to get healthier, bigger, stronger and faster,' Johnson said.
|Footballguys view: Johnson says he played through a Jones fracture in his foot for eight games as a rookie in 2015. He flashed big-time potential last year, and we're excited to see him healthy and starring on he field for the Texans. With an amazing draft, a new QB in Brock Osweiler and a solid defense the Texans are prepared to make another playoff run in 2016.|

Texans | Johnathan Joseph had surgery Tue May 10, 08:50 PM
Houston Texans CB Johnathan Joseph (knee) underwent minor arthroscopic knee surgery this offseason, but he has resumed running.
|Footballguys view: Joseph suffered a knee injury back in November, but he didn't miss any games due to the injury. He's a key defender for a strong Texans defense. The 32-year old veteran should be ready for the start of the regular season.|

Texans | No extension imminent for DeAndre Hopkins Mon May 9, 01:55 PM
Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins and the Texans aren't close on a contract extension after the Texans exercised Hopkins' fifth-year option worth $7.915 million, according to a source. He's entering the fourth year of a $7.637 million rookie contract that includes a $3.926 million signing bonus and $6.181 million guaranteed. Hopkins is confident both sides will work something out.
|Footballguys view: The Texans have Hopkins under contract through the 2017 season. We may not see any movement on a new deal in a year. However, he's most certainly a player who is in the long-term plan for the Texans. That may prompt them to pay him a contract around what Dez Bryant (Cowboys) and Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) received last year.|

Texans | Tyler Ervin signs rookie deal Thu May 5, 09:28 PM
Houston Texans RB Tyler Ervin signed a four-year deal worth $2.887 million, including a $547,568 signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: The Texans smashed it out of the park with their draft. Ervin is an explosive playmaker who can instantly get to top speed. He's not a big back, but he's a determined runner who can gash a defense when he gets a crease. Ervin should be a fine change-of-pace back behind starter Lamar Miller in 2016.|
Texans | K.J. Dillon signs rookie contract Thu May 5, 07:29 PM
Houston Texans S K.J. Dillon - one of the team's two fifth-round picks - signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Dillon is a hard-hitting safety who can play close to the line of scrimmage. He'll begin his pro career as a reserve safety and special teams player, but the upside of a starter is there.|
Texans | Houston inks D.J. Reader Thu May 5, 07:22 PM
Houston Texans NT D.J. Reader - one of the team's two fifth-round picks - signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Another big Clemson defensive prospect here. He's a true nose tackle who is going to stuff the run and eat up double teams.|

Texans | Braxton Miller heading to Houston Fri Apr 29, 10:44 PM
The Houston Texans selected Ohio State WR Braxton Miller with the No. 85 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29.
|Footballguys view: The Texans continue to add to their new offense. DeAndre Hopkins, Kyle Fuller on the other side and Miller in the slot will be a potent combination. Footballguy Andrew Garda is covering the draft and says he's hearing the team is very down on Jaelen Strong and if he doesn't prove himself soon, might struggle to survive the year or perhaps even make the final roster.|
Texans | Houston moves up in second round Fri Apr 29, 08:50 PM

Texans | Will Fuller adds missing element Thu Apr 28, 11:18 PM
Houston Texans WR Will Fuller's speed adds a new element to the offense, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.
|Footballguys view: The Texans are hoping that he can take the top off the defense, which will be easier to do when defenses are occupied with DeAndre Hopkins. That's going to help the team make use of Brock Osweiler's big arm.|
Texans | Houston trades up one spot Thu Apr 28, 10:34 PM
The Houston Texans acquired the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from the Washington Redskins in exchange for the 22nd pick in the 2016 NFL draft and a 2017 sixth-round pick. The Texans selected WR Will Fuller with the pick.
|Footballguys view: Clearly the Texans were worried about someone else jumping up for Fuller. The Texans have a nice group of receivers now and it should help Brock Osweiler in his first full season as a starter.|
Texans | Will Fuller taken by Texans Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM
The Houston Texans selected Notre Dame WR Will Fuller with the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28. The Texans traded up with the Washington Redskins for this pick.

Texans | Vernon Butler worked out for Texans Thu Apr 28, 11:23 AM
Louisiana Tech DT Vernon Butler worked out for the Houston Texans recently, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: The Texans are always looking for more and more ways to continue improving the defense. Butler would be a nice addition though he is a bit undersized. He makes up for it a bit with a quick first step and could develop more tools with some time. He's a third or fourth round pick worth their time.|

Texans | Sean Price to visit Texans Fri Apr 22, 02:14 AM
South Florida TE Sean Price will work out for the Houston Texans Friday, April 22.
|Footballguys view: Price holds the school record for tight ends with 75 career receptions for 897 yards. He's only 6'2" 245 pounds and not overly fast or quick. He should go late in the draft and might only be used as an H-back at the pro level.|
Texans | Ricardo Louis works out for Texans Fri Apr 22, 02:11 AM
Auburn WR Ricardo Louis worked out for the Houston Texans this week.
|Footballguys view: Louis is an intriguing late-round prospect we're interested in. He can track passes deep, and he's got the ability to pick up yards after the catch consistently.|
Texans | J.J. Watt close to full health Wed Apr 20, 04:53 PM
Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin, abdomen) is close to completing his rehabilitation from groin and abdominal injuries that required surgery in January. Watt said he feels good and is close to 100% as he participates in the Texans' offseason conditioning program.
|Footballguys view: The Texans would like to replicate the plan the Broncos won the Super Bowl with, winning with defense and a mediocre offense. They have the pieces for the offense, courtesy of signing Brock Osweiler, and Watt is a vital piece of the defense that has to do the heavy lifting.|
J.J. Watt player page
Texans | Kenneth Dixon visiting Houston Wed Apr 20, 01:55 PM
Louisiana Tech RB Kenneth Dixon is visiting with the Houston Texans Wednesday, April 20, according to a source. Dixon also had pre-draft visits with the San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

Texans | Darius Jackson visits with Texans Tue Apr 19, 11:56 AM
Eastern Michigan RB Darius Jackson is visiting with the Houston Texans Tuesday, April 19.
|Footballguys view: Jackson could be added later in the draft to help with RB depth. At 220 pounds, Jackson has a proven nose for the end zone and can grind down defenses as the game goes on.|

Houston Texans QB B.J. Daniels is being released Monday, April 18.
|Footballguys view: The Texans are cleaning house at the QB position. Brian Hoyer was released earlier, and now Daniels is out the door. The team should move forward with Brock Osweiler as the starter and Brandon Weeden as a backup. Expect the Texans to select a passer late in the draft too.|
B.J. Daniels player page
Texans | Nate Sudfeld to visit Houston Mon Apr 18, 03:26 PM
Indiana QB Nate Sudfeld will visit the Houston Texans Tuesday, April 19.
|Footballguys view: Sudfeld is an interesting late-round prospect the Texans could be considering. He's tall, has a rocket arm and can move around in the pocket...kind of like the Texans new starter Brock Osweiler. Sudfeld was impressive earlier this year at the East-West Shrine Game and has the tools that make him an intriguing developmental player.|
Texans | J.J. Watt still working hard Mon Apr 18, 01:08 PM
Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) still is working out nine times a week this offseason but that is down from the 10 workouts he would do last offseason.

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer was released Sunday, April 17, according to a source.

Texans | Brock Osweiler looking good Thu Apr 7, 03:03 PM
