Texans | DeAndre Hopkins played with injury    Mon Jan 20, 04:33 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (rib) suffered a broken rib during the Divisional Round playoff game but continued to play in the game.

Footballguys view: Hopkins played 77-of-80 snaps against the Chiefs in the Divisional Round, finishing with nine catches for 118 yards. He's a freak athlete and certainly showed his toughness in that contest.

Texans | Anthony Weaver promoted to DC    Mon Jan 20, 08:42 AM

Houston Texans defensive line coach Anthony Weaver was promoted to defensive coordinator Monday, Jan. 20.

Footballguys view: Romeo Crennel's contract expired and now he's looking for a new gig...or perhaps considering retirement. Weaver has a talented defense to work with and should be able to get them playing up to their potential in 2020.

Texans | Romeo Crennel not coming back    Mon Jan 20, 08:41 AM

Houston Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel is not expected back in 2020. Defensive line coach Anthony Weaver is the top candidate to replace him.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Crennel's defense did not perform up to their potential in 2019. We might see Crennel go ahead and retire from football but perhaps some team would want to bring him on as a senior advisor.

Texans | Bradley Roby may not return    Tue Jan 14, 07:27 PM

Houston Texans impending free-agent CB Bradley Roby probably will not re-sign with the Texans this offseason since the team added CBs Gareon Conley and Vernon Hargreaves III during the season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Sarah Barshop.

Footballguys view: Roby had one year with the Texans and that could be all he gets. In 2019, Roby appeared in 10 games and finished with 38 tackles, 1.0 sack, two interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown). Recurring hamstring injuries bothered Roby last season and his injury history does cloud his free agent market just a bit.

Texans | Carlos Hyde hopes to stay in Houston    Sun Jan 12, 10:41 PM

Houston Texans RB Carlos Hyde's one-year contract is set to expire at the end of the league year, and he has made it clear he wants to remain with the team on a more long-term basis. The team reportedly has interest in a deal as well, according to a source. 'Yes, I definitely want to be back here. I don't want to go to another team and start all over again. I felt like Houston was home. I think I handled my part. I've just got to let things play out in the offseason and see what happens,' Hyde told the Houston Chronicle.

Footballguys view: Hyde outperformed expectations with durability and strong performances in some wins, but the Texans could get a younger runner who can add more speed or elusiveness to a lead runner profile. Hyde could be a backup elsewhere if the Texans don't bring him back.

Texans | Houston blows big lead, falls in Kansas City    Sun Jan 12, 06:31 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson completed 31-of-52 passes for 388 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 51-31 AFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, as the team blew a 24-0 lead. RB Carlos Hyde rushed 13 times for 44 yards, while Watson also added 37 yards and a score. WR DeAndre Hopkins ended up with nine grabs for 118 yards on a game-high 14 targets. WR Will Fuller was a nice secondary option with 89 yards on five catches, while WR Kenny Stills posted three receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. TE Darren Fells also had three catches for 22 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. RB Duke Johnson also chipped in with 11 rushing yards and five grabs for 23 yards. CB Lonnie Johnson also had a blocked kick return for touchdown in the first quarter while totaling four solo tackles.

Footballguys view: Watson was gifted a 24-0 lead but then turned into a deer in the headlights like his teammates as the game quickly slipped away. The stats were great in a perfect fantasy football game script, but this game will be remembered as an all-time collapse. The Texans are unlikely to make any majors this offseason and will be without their first and third round picks in the draft.

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (groin) is expected to have his status for the AFC wild-card game Sunday, Jan. 12, determined by a game-time decision, head coach Bill O'Brien said Friday.

Footballguys view: Yeah, that sounds about right. Fuller is fantastic when he's healthy but he struggles with that whole healthy part. Even if Fuller is able to play on Sunday against the Chiefs, he is always at risk to aggravate whatever ails him during the game.
