Texans | Romeo Crennel officially DC again Fri Jan 26, 12:56 AM
Updating a previous report, Houston Texans assistant head coach Romeo Crennel has officially added the title of defensive coordinator. Crennel was the team's DC from 2014 to 2016 before stepping into a modified role last season.
|Footballguys view: The Texans defense crumbled without JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus last year. Jadeveon Clowney did make some big steps forward, so if the team can have all three healthy next season, that's a great start for Crennel, who oversaw some borderline dominant game from this unit with a much less impactful Clowney during his stint as defensive coordinator.|

|Footballguys view: Gaine gets the same contract length that head coach Bill O'Brien was extended to recently. He was the Texans Director of Player Personnel before taking a job with the Bills last year. Gaine knows the roster, knows the team and gets to take over a squad with plenty of talent.|
Texans | Bill O'Brien receives contract extension Sat Jan 13, 10:29 AM
The Houston Texans signed head coach Bill O'Brien to a four-year contract extension Saturday, Jan. 13, according to a source. He is now under contract through the 2022 season.
|Footballguys view: O'Brien and new GM Brian Gaine are locked in for the next five years. In four seasons, O'Brien has a losing record (31-33) as the Texans head coach. With a healthy Deshaun Watson and plenty of offensive talent, the Texans could get back into the playoffs next season.|

Texans | Brian Gaine top candidate for GM Sun Jan 7, 01:57 PM
Buffalo Bills vice president of player personnel Brian Gaine is considered the leading candidate for the Houston Texans general manager position, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The move makes sense as Gaine was the Texans Director of Player Personnel before he took his job with the Bills in 2017. Gaine was with the Texans when most of the players were put in place. He knows the culture and could make the transition from Rick Smith (who is taking an extended leave of absence) seamless.|

|Footballguys view: Good news for the Texans here. Watson had surgery in early November to repair the injury and it's crazy to think he could participate in OTAs. Even if he is ready to work in the spring, the Texans will be cautious and take it easy on Watson as they get ready for the 2018 season.|

He's bounced around since then (including two stints with Seattle) and has flashed a bit in the preseason. At 5'9" 207 pounds, Pope is a change-of-pace back with great foot frequency who can contribute as a runner, receiver or return man.|
