Texans | DeAndre Hopkins sits out again    Wed Aug 16, 02:35 AM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 15, and he has not practiced since Monday, Aug. 7. Head coach Bill O'Brien indicated that Hopkins is 'doing fine,' and has previously likened Hopkins' practice schedule leading up to the regular season as being on a 'pitch count.'

Footballguys view: It's a bit of a concern for fantasy owners. Monitor Hopkins as we continue through the preseason. If the veteran WR is on a snap count, then he should be limited in Week 3 of the preseason (the dress rehearsal for the regular season) and is unlikely to play in the preseason finale.

Texans | DeAndrew White waived/injured    Mon Aug 14, 03:45 PM

Texans | Braxton Miller has sprained ankle    Mon Aug 14, 03:33 PM

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller (ankle) is dealing with a mild ankle sprain, but his prognosis is positive.

Footballguys view: It's a mild sprain, but it doesn't sound like a high ankle sprain. If it was a high ankle sprain then that's something that could take over a month to properly heal. It sounds like Miller could be available much sooner than that. With Will Fuller (collarbone) already banged up, the Texans are a bit thin at the top of the WR depth chart behind star DeAndre Hopkins.

Texans | Deshaun Watson works with first-team    Mon Aug 14, 12:27 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson took first-team repetitions in practice Monday, Aug. 14, but head coach Bill O'Brien downplayed it saying that's how the repetitions lined up.

Footballguys view: Watson is the team's future franchise quarterback...or at least that's what they hope after they aggressively moved up in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft to select the talented passer from Clemson. He's competing with Tom Savage for the starting job, but we have to think that Watson would end up starting at some point this year.

The Houston Texans have signed free-agent WR Germone Hopper (49ers) Sunday, Aug. 13, according to his agent.

Texans | Alfred Blue in better shape    Sat Aug 12, 09:48 PM

Houston Texans RB Alfred Blue said he feels more explosive and can make quicker cuts this season thanks to a workout regimen that included yoga and Pilates.

Footballguys view: Blue is a big back with an upright running style. He's competing with rookie D'Onta Foreman to be the primary backup behind Lamar Miller in 2017.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins sits out Saturday    Sat Aug 12, 03:05 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 12, because he received the day off.

Footballguys view: It's just a veteran day of rest for the star wideout. He's going off the board at WR13 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

Texans | Braxton Miller misses practice    Fri Aug 11, 04:51 PM

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 11, because of the injury he suffered during the first preseason game. Miller's injury is not considered to be serious.

Texans | Bruce Ellington joins Texans    Fri Aug 11, 04:42 PM

Free-agent WR Bruce Ellington (Jets) signed with the Houston Texans Friday, Aug. 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ellington is a fast wide receiver who can thrive with run-after-the-catch ability. With Will Fuller and Braxton Miller banged up, the Texans needed a player at the position. Ellington will struggle to make the 53-man roster.

Texans | Work to do for Deshaun Watson    Thu Aug 10, 11:00 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson has 'a lot to build on,' following his first preseason game, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. 'There's a lot to correct,' O'Brien said. 'He knows that. He was about 50-50 right or wrong on some of the schemes we ran.'

Footballguys view: Watson looked better against pressure than Tom Savage, but missed an easy throw or two. Savage will get a ton of chances to fail, but Watson should take over for good at some point this year unless Savage improves greatly.

Texans | Braxton Miller banged up    Thu Aug 10, 04:14 PM

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller (undisclosed) went to the locker room with an undisclosed injury Wednesday, Aug. 9, against the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Miller will be fine, however.

Footballguys view: We hope so because the Texans aren't in a position to lose too many more guys at receiver. It feels like neither Miller nor Jaelen Strong's ADP has adjusted in the wake of Will Fuller's injury, with Strong still not tracking at all and Miller tracking as the 84th wide receiver. Uncertainty at quarterback definitely has something to do with that, but it's worth watching the No. 2 for Houston to see who emerges as there could be some good value there.

Texans | Two Texans will return Friday    Thu Aug 10, 04:06 PM

Houston Texans TE Zach Conque was waived Monday, Aug. 7.

Texans | Tom Savage to start first preseason game    Mon Aug 7, 04:25 PM

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will be under center for the first snap of Houston's first preseason game. Head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't know yet how long Savage or any of the quarterbacks will play.

Footballguys view: Savage may be in the lead right now. He's competing with 2017 first-round pick Deshaun Watson for the starting job. We could see Savage beginning the year as the starter with Watson taking over if (when?) Savage struggles.

Texans | Tyler Ervin could play WR    Mon Aug 7, 07:04 AM

Houston Texans RB Tyler Ervin may be a fill-in candidate for WR Will Fuller (collarbone) while Fuller recovers from a broken collarbone.

Footballguys view: Ervin has made strides from year one to year two and is poised to take on a bigger role. He should be on your PPR league waiver wire watch list.

Texans | J.J. Watt likely to suit up Wednesday    Sun Aug 6, 09:18 AM

Texans | Tom Savage 'terrific' in camp so far    Sat Aug 5, 01:11 PM

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is clearly atop the depth chart and has been 'terrific' through the first two weeks of training camp, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain.

Footballguys view: Early depth charts don't mean anything, but McClain knows his stuff. With the loss of Will Fuller, a team looking to build om last year's success may go with the slightly more experienced Savage over the rookie Deshaun Watson. Neither one is going to be reliable as more than a QB3. We love Watson's upside - the guy just makes plays under pressure and in big moments - but the Texans wont rush him into action. He's the future, Savage is a placeholder.

Texans | Jaelen Strong ready to step up    Sat Aug 5, 12:27 AM

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong said he is ready to take advantage of the opportunity created by the injury to WR Will Fuller (shoulder).

Footballguys view: Strong hasn't been consistent in his first two years, and was surpassed by Fuller. Will he perform? He will have an inexperienced quarterback either way, which isn't going to make his struggles easier to overcome. As of now, his ADP hasn't increased at all, which means he hasn't been drafted enough to track. He's going to start trending higher but still end up in the latter half of drafts.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins endorses Tom Savage    Fri Aug 4, 11:00 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins believes QB Tom Savage should open the year as the starter. 'If anybody should be a judge of quarterbacks, I've played with the most quarterbacks in NFL history throughout my first four years,' Hopkins said. 'So I put the stamp on Savage, and I think that's all that needs to be said about that.'

Footballguys view: It makes sense, as he has had a couple of years to work with Savage and is getting ready for a contract year. He is likely to feel more confident with the devil he knows that the one he doesn't, especially with an unsure option as the No. 2 since Will Fuller is hurt. We think Watson has the higher upside, but Savage may start the season under center as Watson gets his feet under him.

Texans | Tom Savage receives stamp of approval    Fri Aug 4, 03:01 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins appears to be in favor of QB Tom Savage opening the season as the quarterback.

Footballguys view: We're not sure what to make of this one. It could just be he's had a few years to get to know Savage. Reports after one week of camp are that Deshaun Watson looks really good and Bill O'Brien called him the 'best rookie quarterback' he's ever worked with. Hopkins is in contract year so he might be worried about how he would look with a rookie quarterback. Personally, this team needs a guy with that big-game 'it' factor and Savage, while a nice quarterback, doesn't have it. Watson does.

Texans | Braxton Miller finding comfort zone    Thu Aug 3, 09:34 PM

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller said he better understands the offensive system in his second year and is ready to take advantage of any extra opportunities that come from the injury to WR Will Fuller (shoulder). 'I'm a lot more comfortable,' Miller said. 'I can understand more of the coverages, more of the technique of the routes.'

Texans | Two moves made by Texans    Wed Aug 2, 05:43 PM

Houston Texans WR Deante' Gray (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Aug. 2, after recently being waived/injured. In a corresponding move, DE T.J. Daniel (undisclosed) was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Texans | Will Fuller injury update    Wed Aug 2, 02:15 PM

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined two to three months with a broken collarbone he suffered in practice Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: That's going to end his value pretty thoroughly for the foreseeable future. While DeAndre Hopkins was always going to be DeShaun Watson's number one weapon, having Fuller across from him helped draw coverage away. Now it's up to Braxton Miller or Jaelen Strong will try to do that, and we're not fully on board with that. Hopkins remains as a very solid WR2 with WR1 upside, but without Fuller and with a rookie quarterback, we think it could be harder to reach that upside.

Texans | Will Fuller breaks collarbone    Wed Aug 2, 01:08 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (shoulder) is out indefinitely after breaking his collarbone in practice Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: Jaelen Strong and Braxton Miller are the only other two wide receivers of import on the depth chart after Fuller, but they don't provide his speed. The team could use more two tight end sets while Fuller is recovering. taking away chances for Miller to line up in the slot.

Texans | J.J. Watt misses practice    Wed Aug 2, 02:52 AM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) missed his second consecutive practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, but head coach Bill O'Brien said there was nothing wrong and that the team is just managing Watt's reps to get him ready for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Watt should be close to, if not all the way to his old form for Week 1, which also greatly helps the value of the Texans team defense in fantasy leagues. We'll make sure the Texans are telling the truth, but there's no reason to worry about this yet.

Texans | Deshaun Watson continues to impress    Tue Aug 1, 02:03 PM

Houston Texans rookie QB Deshaun Watson is 'ahead of any rookie quarterback I've ever been around,' according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: Watson is competing with Tom Savage for the starting job in Houston. While Savage has the experience, Watson is the first-round pick that plays big in the most stressful moments of a game. The Texans will run the ball and play great defense, which limits how much they have to lean on the quarterback...no matter who it is.

Texans | Houston won't rotate QBs    Sat Jul 29, 09:26 PM

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage and QB Deshaun Watson won't be used in a two-quarterback system, head coach Bill O'Brien said Saturday, July 29. 'I'm not going to alternate quarterbacks in and out of there,' O'Brien said. 'I don't think that's good for the team.'

Footballguys view: Savage may be the frontrunner here due to his experience, but we're most excited to see what Watson can do at the pro level. The Texans selected Watson in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft for good reason -- the guy just makes plays under pressure and in the biggest moments. We'll see if Watson can show he's a quick study and win the starting job in camp.

Texans | Braxton Miller maturing as a receiver    Sat Jul 29, 06:30 PM

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller has improved his route-running and is having a good camp, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: Miller converted from quarterback to wide receiver during his college career at Ohio State. He's only a few years into learning the position and still has a lot of room for growth. Miller has tremendous athleticism and is dangerous with the ball in his hands.

Texans | D'Onta Foreman carving out a role?    Sat Jul 29, 12:03 AM

Houston Texans RB D'Onta Foreman scored a one-yard touchdown, stayed in his running lanes and displayed good interior vision during practice Friday, July 28, according to John Harris of HoustonTexans.com.

Footballguys view: Foreman is a big back who could actually run with more power. The offseason has been full of reports about how the team wants to use Lamar Miller a bit less in order to keep him fresh all season long. Foreman is competing with Alfred Blue to be the primary backup behind Miller, and he's a player who could steal some short-yardage or goal-line work away from the Texans starter. Watch this battle unfold during training camp.

Texans | Deshaun Watson 'ahead of schedule'    Fri Jul 28, 03:11 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson's pace in picking up the offense has 'impressed everyone in the building,' according to SI.com's Albert Breer, who added 'the big thing is that while he makes rookie mistakes, he's done well not to repeat them.'

Footballguys view: This is positive news on Watson's development, but Tom Savage has also drawn praise and he'll be the starter in Week 1 barring a dramatic change in this situation. Watson will stay on our waiver wire watch list unless we hear signs that he is pushing Savage to start.

Texans | Deshaun Watson struggles Thursday    Thu Jul 27, 10:59 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson 'looked a lot like a rookie' during training camp Thursday, July 27, according to Cody Stoots of CBSHouston.com.

Footballguys view: Tom Savage is starting camp as the clear #1 quarterback and Watson will have to decisively overtake him to earn the job. This doesn't make it sound like he is close to doing that right now.

Texans | Solid start for Stephen Anderson     Thu Jul 27, 10:33 PM

Houston Texans TE Stephen Anderson would likely be the third tight end if the 53-man roster was decided today, Cody Stoots of CBSHouston.com said Thursday, July 27.

Footballguys view: Anderson is more of an H-back than an inline tight end, but he offers more receiving upside than CJ Fiedorowicz or Ryan Griffin and could further split what little fantasy value there is at tight end for the Texans this year.

Texans | Houston claims Devin Street    Thu Jul 27, 04:55 PM

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins expected to report on time    Sun Jul 23, 04:22 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins has not made a lot of progress in contract extension talks with the Texans but is expected to report to training camp on time. Both sides are motivated to reach an agreement on a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: Hopkins was hyperproductive in the pass happy Texans offense with Brian Hoyer at the helm, but Brock Osweiler was so bad that Hopkins faded into the pack both statistically and in his impact on games. This is probably a good time for the Texans to get a discount on his extension.
