Texans | Brian Hartline visiting Houston    Thu Mar 5, 11:14 AM

Free-agent WR Brian Hartline (Dolphins) is visiting with the Houston Texans Thursday, March 5.

Footballguys view: The Texans are likely to part ways with Andre Johnson. They'll need some veteran depth behind DeAndre Hopkins if (when) that happens. Hartline is a decent player who could be their WR2.

Texans | Chris Myers to be released    Wed Mar 4, 02:29 PM

Houston Texans C Chris Myers has been informed that he will be released.

Footballguys view: Myers has been a long-time starter for the Texans, but with an $8 million cap number the team decided to move on. Expect the Broncos to show interest.

Texans | Andre Johnson to have little trade value?    Tue Mar 3, 05:14 PM

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson wants out of Houston, but the Texans may not get much in return for him if he is traded.

Footballguys view: The Texans may just end up cutting him. They already don't want to pay Johnson the $11.5 million he's due next season, and interested teams know that. They could just wait it out or send the Texans low-ball offers to see if they get desperate.

Texans | Andre Johnson asked to change roles    Mon Mar 2, 10:51 PM

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson was asked to accept a reduced role, but he declined and asked to be traded or cut, according to people familiar with the situation.

Footballguys view: The Texans are shaking things up here. Johnson should attract some interest on the open market, but we don't know how much he'll fetch in a trade. Some likely landing spots are with teams in need of WR help--Kansas City and Carolina spring to mind.

Texans | Andre Johnson finished in Houston    Mon Mar 2, 09:30 PM

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson's agent has been given permission to seek a trade, and Johnson will be cut if a deal cannot be worked out.

Footballguys view: This has been brewing for some time as Johnson wasn't happy with the team last year before the start of the season. The Texans will save $8.825 million against the salary cap if Johnson is traded or cut.

Texans | Brian Cushing had multiple surgeries    Sat Feb 28, 02:55 PM

Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing (wrist, knee, ankle) underwent multiple surgeries following the 2014 season. Cushing had surgery to repair a broken right wrist and also had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and left ankle.

Footballguys view: Cushing said he's still on schedule to be ready for the offseason program. The Texans should take it easy on him as he comes back from these surgeries.

Texans | Ryan Mallett recovering from surgery    Wed Feb 25, 04:43 PM

Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (pectoral) is recovering from surgery on a torn pectoral muscle. Mallett said he's already thrown a football and that the recovery process is day-by-day.

Footballguys view: We could see Mallett returning to the Texans in 2015. He barely got to start for them last year before injuring his pectoral muscle. He's the strong-armed pocket passer that head coach Bill O'Brien likes, and his main competition for the starting job will be second-year QB Tom Savage.

Texans | Ryan Mallett wants to stay with HOU    Wed Feb 25, 04:12 PM

Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett said he'd like stay with the Texans and hopes both parties can get a new contract worked out.

Footballguys view: We think the Texans go ahead and keep him around after trading a late-round pick for his services last year. Mallett is recovering from surgery on a torn muscle in his pectoral.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins recovering from surgery    Sun Feb 22, 08:01 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (wrist) said in a radio interview that he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist after the regular season. He said he had a pin and rod inserted into the wrist that was set to be removed Saturday, Feb. 21. He expects to resume regular activities in a couple of weeks.

Footballguys view: Hopkins should be good to go when minicamp opens up, although the Texans may want to bring him along slowly as he comes back from this injury. Either way, it's not going to hamper him in training camp. What could hold him back is the bad QB situation the Texans have. Ryan Mallett or Tom Savage could be the lead QB for Houston in 2015....and neither are good options.

Texans | Case Keenum gets vote of confidence    Fri Feb 20, 07:23 AM

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum picked up a vote of confidence from head coach Bill O'Brien, who called Keenum a 'very viable' option at quarterback for 2015.

Footballguys view: Is this a 'dreaded' vote of confidence? Or is this just a regular vote of confidence? Meh, either way it's Case Keenum people. Not much to see here even if he's actually playing.

Texans | Texans to scale back Arian Foster?     Fri Feb 20, 12:06 AM

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster will have his carries managed in game more often in 2015, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien also said that running back is a position the team will look at in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: We wouldn't be surprised to the Texans select Todd Gurley (Georgia) in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. Gurley has superstar potential, but is coming off a knee injury suffered last year.

Texans | Kareem Jackson unlikely for franchise tag    Tue Feb 17, 01:13 PM

Houston Texans impending free-agent CB Kareem Jackson would love to return to the team, but it's much more likely he'll sign a long-term deal than have the franchise tag placed on him.

Footballguys view: Jackson will be a hot free agent, but the Texans aren't willing to drop the $13 million required for franchise tagged cornerbacks. Teams like the Bengals could show interest in Jackson if he makes it to the open market.

Texans | Houston likely to retain Ryan Mallett    Tue Feb 17, 08:33 AM

Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett is likely to be re-signed by the team this offseason, in the opinion of HoustonTexans.com's Drew Dougherty.

Footballguys view: That move would make the most sense. Mallett was a backup behind Tom Brady until the Texans traded for him last year. He made one start then tore his pectoral muscle. If retained, Mallett would compete with second-year pro Tom Savage for the starting job in 2015.

Texans | Kareem Jackson would love to return    Fri Feb 13, 01:00 PM

Houston Texans impending free-agent CB Kareem Jackson would love to return to the team in 2015. 'I'd love to be back here,' Jackson said. 'What Coach O'Brien has brought here with the coaches and stuff like that, with the system and stuff like that, I definitely want to be a part of what's starting to happen last year and progressing into the future.'

Texans | Brian Cushing play with broken wrist    Thu Feb 12, 12:43 AM

Texans | Houston keeping QB options open    Fri Feb 6, 12:38 PM

Houston Texans QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett and Case Keenum will all be evaluated by the coaching staff this offseason, but head coach Bill O'Brien said the team is keeping their options open at the position. 'We'll make the right decision and it will probably be a competition,' O'Brien said. 'It will be something where guys come in and compete and have to win the job and that's the way it should be and that's what we're looking to do.' Mallett will become a free agent in March.

Footballguys view: We could see Mallett returning for another shot with the Texans. They made a move to acquire him last year, and he was able to start two games. Mallet threw for 400 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions before a pectoral injury forced him out of the lineup against the Bengals. The injury ended his season, and the Texans may want a longer look.

NFL | Two first-round RBs this year?    Wed Feb 4, 08:48 PM

Daniel Jeremiah, from NFL.com, believes we could see two running backs selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. Both Melvin Gordon (Wisconsin) and Todd Gurley (Georgia) will be considerations for teams on the first day of the draft. If one (or both) are drafted, it would be the first time since 2012 that there was a RB taken in the first round.

Footballguys view: The Texans could have interest in a guy like Gurley. Both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman are crazy about the Georgia Bulldogs star. A knee injury ended his final college season, but Gurley could sit behind Arian Foster and be groomed as the next star back. Gordon is not Jamaal Charles, as some mistake him to be, but he's a fast back who catches the ball well and has big-play ability.

Texans | Sign nine to futures deal    Mon Dec 29, 07:08 PM

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners in super super deep dynasty leagues should be monitoring Jace Davis. The Northern Colorado prospect has a great size/speed combination and a skill set similar to that of Anquan Boldin. He was with the Ravens on their practice squad for most of 2014.

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in Week 17 and is considered questionable to return.

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 26, and is listed as probable for Week 17.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins' wrist still an issue    Thu Dec 25, 11:55 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (wrist) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 25.

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson posted six catches for 65 yards in the Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens, giving him 1,002 receptions for his career. He is the 10th player in NFL history to accomplish the feat.

Footballguys view: Johnson came out hot but the Texans offense didn't need to push the issue with the lead for the whole game. This is probably the last year that Andre Johnson will be drafted as a fantasy starter with the QB uncertainty in Houston next year.
