Texans | DeAndre Hopkins wanted Deshaun Watson Thu Apr 27, 10:37 PM
Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins told the media prior to the 2017 NFL Draft that he would love to have QB Deshaun Watson throwing him the ball.
|Footballguys view: And he will. Watson has the arm to make defenses pay and Hopkins can take advantage of that. The Texans could be very dangerous if Watson is as good as we think he can be.|

Texans | Houston selects Deshaun Watson Thu Apr 27, 09:36 PM
The Houston Texans selected Clemson QB Deshaun Watson with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Thursday, April 27.
|Footballguys view: We love the move up since Houston is in such dire need of a quarterback. Watson has the athleticism, height, production and leadership in the huddle which all teams look for in a quarterback prospect. Watson's ability to avoid sacks and his general mobility are another plus in a league which has begun to find new ways to take advantage of those traits, and anyone who has seen him play in the last two National Title games knows he can step up in big moments and lead his team when they need it. This is a great pick for Houston.|

Texans | Houston meeting with Brad Kaaya Wed Apr 19, 02:33 PM
Miami (Fla.) QB Brad Kaaya is meeting with the Houston Texans Wednesday, April 19.
|Footballguys view: The Texans are looking for a rookie quarterback, and the buzz is they really want Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech). If they can't get him in the first round, then perhaps someone like Kaaya would be an option in the second. Kaaya is good from the pocket and he can throw with touch. His deep passes sail, and he'll need to make better decisions as a thrower outside the pocket to be a good pro.|
Texans | J.J. Watt excited, feeling well Mon Apr 17, 02:52 PM
Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) said his body feels well and that he's looking forward to returning to action. Watt underwent back surgery earlier this offseason.
|Footballguys view: All signs point to Watt returning to his dominant ways in the NFL. That's great news for the Texans....now if they just had a quarterback.|

Texans | Cam Robinson visiting Texans Mon Apr 17, 08:14 AM
Alabama OT Cam Robinson is visiting with the Houston Texans Monday, April 17. The team also worked him out recently.
|Footballguys view: The Texans would like to get a quarterback in the first round, but they have to be prepared in case there's a run on passer before they pick at 25. Robinson is big, physical and can win consistently in a phone booth. Some see him as a potential starter at left tackle, while others think he's best suited at right tackle. There are some in the scouting community who think Robinson is eventually going to land at guard.|
Texans | Houston hosting Patrick Mahomes Sun Apr 16, 08:17 PM
Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes is visiting with the Houston Texans Sunday, April 16, and Monday, April 17.
|Footballguys view: The Texans would love to see Mahomes fall to their 25th overall pick in the first round. Previous reports have indicated the Texans would select Mahomes if he's there. The team needs to find a franchise quarterback, and Mahomes may be the best of the bunch this year. The Texas Tech gunslinger has a high level of confidence and wants to challenge a defense from the first play to the last. We don't think he's there when the Texans select.|
Texans | Houston to spend time with Deshaun Watson Sun Apr 16, 04:44 PM
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is scheduled to have a visit with the Houston Texans Monday, April 17, and Tuesday, April 18, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The Texans want to find a quarterback of the future. Watson plays his best under the brightest lights and in the biggest moments. He's athletic and can hurt a defense with his legs. Watson does need help with accuracy and throwing on the run. The Texans could add him in the first round with the 25th pick...but it would take a fall from earlier picks for Watson to be there.|
Texans | Houston keeping tabs on Tarell Basham Sun Apr 16, 02:07 PM
Ohio DE Tarell Basham recently worked out with the Houston Texans, who also put him through the paces on campus and met with him at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine as well the Senior Bowl.
|Footballguys view: Basham is a powerful player with the length and burst to get after the quarterback. He needs to learn how to use his hands better to get the most of his pass rushing ability. Basham should be a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.|
Texans | Chad Williams visits Houston Sun Apr 16, 09:16 AM
Grambling WR Chad Williams visited the Houston Texans last week, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly.
|Footballguys view: Williams plays bigger than his size (6'1") and can make plays above the rim in the end zone. He's likely to be a late-round pick because Williams has a lot to work on. Williams is not a good route runner and he's got build up speed, so jamming him at the line of scrimmage is the gameplan defenders take against him.|
Texans | Jacob Hollister visits Houston Sun Apr 16, 09:10 AM
Wyoming TE Jacob Hollister visited the Houston Texans last week, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly.
|Footballguys view: Hollister is likely a late-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. He's a receiving tight end who has drawn some comparisons to Julius Thomas (Dolphins). Hollister is not much of a blocker, but he's a weapon who can haul in deep passes regularly.|

Texans | Jadeveon Clowney could receive big deal Sat Apr 15, 05:10 PM
The Houston Texans are expected to try to sign DE Jadeveon Clowney to a lucrative deal next offseason if he repeats the success he had in 2016 next season.
|Footballguys view: The Texans picked up Clowney's fifth-year option for 2018 at the end of the week. He had a breakout campaign in 2016 and with another strong season we could see the Texans working diligently to keep him under contract.|

Texans | Houston picks up option on Jadeveon Clowney Fri Apr 14, 03:44 PM
The Houston Texans exercised their fifth-year option on DE Jadeveon Clowney on Friday, April 14.
|Footballguys view: Clowney's career got started off rough due to injury, but he's turned up his game as of late. He had a breakout campaign in 2016 with 52 total tackles and 6.0 sacks. Clowney has the ability to get double-digit sacks, and he could be even more dangerous with J.J. Watt returning healthy in 2017.|

Texans | Ryan Anderson met with Houston Sat Apr 8, 12:46 PM
Alabama LB Ryan Anderson went through a private workout with the Houston Texans on Friday, April 7, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Anderson is a player who produces with great effort and average physical traits. He is assignment sound and does a good job of setting the edge as a run defender. Anderson is rigid in coverage and likely a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.|
Texans | D'Onta Foreman works out for Houston Sat Apr 8, 12:11 PM
Texas RB D'Onta Foreman was one of several local prospects to work out for the Houston Texans on Saturday, April 8.
|Footballguys view: Foreman is a big thumper who makes his living running over defenders and softening up the box between the tackles. Pass protection and receiving skills are a work in progress for the young runner, so expect him to play as a two-down back during his rookie season. He could be a touchdown hog, but Foreman will likely be splitting time in a RBBC somewhere.|

Texans | Tom Savage the guy in Houston Tue Apr 4, 10:07 AM
Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will move forward as the starter, but the team is likely to draft a quarterback.
|Footballguys view: Savage wasn't worse than Brock Osweiler and he wasn't as bad for DeAndre Hopkins' fantasy stock, but that's about the best thing we can say about him. Don't be surprised if he finishes the season on the bench behind the quarterback the Texans take in the draft.|

Texans | Houston will not trade for Tony Romo Mon Apr 3, 07:30 PM
The Houston Texans will not trade for Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo even though the Cowboys have allowed Romo to talk with other teams, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The buzz is a resolution to the Romo situation will happen in the next week or so. The Broncos and Texans have already expressed they won't trade for Romo, and being allowed to talk to him hasn't changed that. However, both teams should be interested if/when Romo is released.|

Texans | Texans not interested in Jay Cutler Tue Mar 21, 11:45 PM
The Houston Texans 'aren't an option' for free-agent QB Jay Cutler (Bears), according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. As a result, Cutler 'may just wait.'
|Footballguys view: The Texans seem to be all in on Tony Romo. They don't seem intent on trading anything for Romo, but if/when released the Texans would likely compete hard with the Broncos for his services.|

Texans | Brad Seaton works out for Houston Sat Mar 18, 10:51 AM
The Houston Texans conducted a private workout with Villanova OT Brad Seaton Friday, March 17, according to a league source.
|Footballguys view: Seaton is a small-school prospect with rising draft stock. He's a mid-round pick, but this is a tackle class with a lot of question marks in front of him. Scouts like his size (6'8" 330 pounds) and functional strength. He was a mainstay on an offensive line that helped Villanova be one of the best rushing teams in their conference. He will regularly toss down players as a pass protector, and he's got the developmental upside to be a starter in the NFL.|
Texans | Houston eyeing QB early in draft? Fri Mar 17, 09:47 PM
The Houston Texans could use their first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to select a quarterback, according to beat writer John McClain, and McClain believes Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes will be the target.
|Footballguys view: This has been out there, and rumblings of the Texans interest in Mahomes seems to be getting louder and louder. This isn't a great QB class, but there's a chance that Mahomes is the best among the bunch. Mahomes has supreme confidence in his arm, and he's not afraid to challenge a defense vertically. In fact, Mahomes draft stock is rising so much that he may not be there when the Texans pick at no.25 in the first round.|
