Texans | Brock Osweiler takes blame for loss    Sat Sep 24, 12:14 AM

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said he takes the blame for the performance of the offense against the New England Patriots in Week 3, and he said he will become a better quarterback because of the experience.

Footballguys view: Osweiler should be better than he is right now. He's spent four years developing in Denver, but he looked lost against the Patriots on Thursday night. We'll see how the team gets him more comfortable to see if Osweiler can be more reliable.

Texans | J.J. Watt contained again    Fri Sep 23, 08:50 AM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt was held to two tackles and no sacks Thursday, Sept. 22, in Week 3.

Footballguys view: Watt didn't look like himself on a short week of rest. His legs had no push or spring to them and he was single-blocked effectively at times by Cameron Fleming. The extra rest before the Titans game next week should get him back to his elite IDP status.

Texans | Ryan Griffin busy in loss    Fri Sep 23, 12:36 AM

Houston Texans TE Ryan Griffin had eight catches on 10 targets 52 yards in a 27-0 loss to the New England Patriots Thursday, Sept. 22.

Footballguys view: Don't rush to pick up Griffin on the waiver wire. The Patriots underrated defense took away most of the downfield passing from Brock Osweiler and forced him to use a lot of his short targets. Griffin will get a bigger opportunity while rookie Stephen Anderson is sidelined with a hamstring issue, but he's still only a desperation play against Tennessee next week.

Texans | Week 2 inactives for Houston    Sun Sep 18, 11:30 AM

The Houston Texans have declared OG Oday Aboushi, OT Duane Brown, LB Brian Cushing, DE Joel Heath, WR Keith Mumphery, SS Eddie Pleasant, QB Brandon Weeden inactive for Week 2.

Footballguys view: The Texans top notch left tackle is out for at least another week, and he is highly unlikely to play Thursday against the Patriots. Hopefully he can return in Week 4, but the Texans offense didn't seem too hampered by his absence in Week 1. Chris Clark is one of the better swing tackles in the NFL.

Texans | Will Fuller has trust of coach    Sat Sep 17, 11:24 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller has been on head coach Bill O'Brien's radar since Fuller was in high school, and O'Brien said he knows Fuller is a resilient player who will rebound from a dropped pass or bad play.

Footballguys view: Fuller could have had the biggest day of any fantasy wideout in Week 1 if he hadn't dropped an 83-yard score. He's worth the risk as a boom/bust WR3/Flex against the Chiefs this week.

Texans | J.J. Watt ready to play    Fri Sep 16, 06:40 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 16 but is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Watt and Jadeveon Clowney should give the Chiefs offensive line - without their starting guards - all they can handle on Sunday.

Texans | Jadeveon Clowney made impact at DE    Fri Sep 16, 09:24 AM

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney lined up at defensive end for the entire Week 1 game and had a sack, four tackles and three hits on the quarterback. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Clowney would continue to move around.

Footballguys view: Clowney's IDP value could take a big leap if he gets reclassified as an end. The Texans defense should be even better this year as long as Clowney can stay healthy and JJ Watt's back issue doesn't flare up.

Texans | J.J. Watt contained    Tue Sep 13, 08:22 AM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt had just one tackle and three quarterback hits in Week 1, but he felt great and played 88 percent of the snaps on defense. 'I knew I wouldn't have any problems with my back, and I didn't,' Watt said. 'Definitely knocked some rust off. It felt good to go out there and get some live shots at you and get back in to the flow of things.'

Footballguys view: Watt came back from his back surgery and played a majority of snaps. He didn't snare a sack in Week 1, but he garners a lot of attention each and every play. As Watt gets back into the swing of things the production will come.

Texans | Lamar Miller tops century mark    Mon Sep 12, 12:56 AM

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller rushed 28 times for 106 yards in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, and he added four receptions for 11 yards.

Footballguys view: Miller was clearly the centerpiece of the offense. However, 28 rushing attempts is something that is unlikely to be maintained. We think he'll get 20-25 rushing attempts per game on average.

Texans | Nuke Hopkins finds the end zone    Mon Sep 12, 12:55 AM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins posted five receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 win against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: The defense was geared to stop him and they didn't. Hopkins is a WR1 for fantasy owners, and he should have better weeks as his timing/chemistry with QB Brock Osweiler gets better.

Texans | Will Fuller debuts with a bang    Mon Sep 12, 12:54 AM

Houston Texans rookie WR Will Fuller (hamstring) had five receptions for a game-high 107 yards and a touchdown in his regular season debut in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. He was listed as questionable on the injury report due to a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Fuller can take a short pass to the house as he did against the Bears on Sunday. The rookie is exciting because of that speed, but we'll see if his concentration (always a concern in college) can improve.

Texans | Brock Osweiler successful in debut    Mon Sep 12, 12:54 AM

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 231 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears in his regular season team debut.

Footballguys view: This stat line seems about right for Osweiler. He's not afraid to challenge a defense, and he took it to a bad Bears defense on Sunday. In tougher matchups, it will be interesting to see how Osweiler responds.

Texans | Week 1 inactives for Houston    Sun Sep 11, 11:50 AM

The Houston Texans have declared OG Oday Aboushi, OT Duane Brown, S K.J. Dillon, DT Joel Heath, WR Keith Mumphery, LB Brennan Scarlett, QB Brandon Weeden inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Brown is one of the best left tackles in the league, and the Texans hope to get him back soon as he is recovering from a torn quad that ended his 2015 campaign. They are in pretty good hands with Chris Clark as his backup, so don't worry too much about Lamar Miller.

Texans | J.J. Watt expects to be full-go in Week 1    Sat Sep 10, 12:13 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt will not be on a snap count in Week 1 versus the Chicago Bears after making a speedy recovery from back surgery to repair a herniated disc in late July, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Watt is a freak of nature, and his speedy recovery from back surgery should not be that surprising. Bad news for Bears QB Jay Cutler here.

Texans | Christian Covington to start in some sets    Sat Sep 10, 10:54 AM

Texans | High expectations for Lamar Miller     Sat Sep 10, 12:01 AM

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller has picked up the offense quickly, according to head coach Bill O'Brien, and O'Brien said he is looking forward to seeing what Miller does this season.

Footballguys view: Miller should be the centerpiece of the Texans offense. We've got him as a RB1 this week against a bad Bears defense.

Texans | Friday injury report for Texans    Fri Sep 9, 05:25 PM

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 9. WR Will Fuller (hamstring), OT Derek Newton (hamstring), DE J.J. Watt (back) and LB Akeem Dent (concussion) fully participated in practice. Brown has been ruled out for Week 1, while the other players are not on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Fuller's hamstring issue is not what you want to see in a speed receiver for his regular season debut, but the possible reward of a long score against a suspect Bears secondary is enough to take the risk as a WR3/Flex in deeper leagues and DFS lineups.

Texans | Will Fuller limited Thursday    Thu Sep 8, 10:32 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: It looks like Fuller is on track to play Sunday against the no-name Bears secondary. He has a high ceiling as a deep ball specialist, but Fuller also has a risk of a zero if his hamstring acts up.

Texans | J.J. Watt limited in practice    Thu Sep 8, 10:25 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: Watt is going to play Sunday, and he has a chance to play most or all of the game. He should be in IDP lineups and his presence downgrades the value of all Bears on Sunday.

Texans | Will Fuller expected to play    Thu Sep 8, 02:25 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) will be fine for Week 1, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: We think Fuller is a solid WR4 play this week and should do well against a poor Bears secondary, especially with DeAndre Hopkins drawing coverage.

Texans | Will Fuller not doing much Thursday    Thu Sep 8, 01:18 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was not doing much during the media-access portion of practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: Fuller should be ready to go on Sunday and the matchup against the Chicago Bears is a great one. Whole DeAndre Hopkins will get most targets, Fuller will see action as well. Start him as a solid WR4 and you should be content.

Texans | Duane Brown not on the field    Thu Sep 8, 01:09 PM

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (quadriceps) is not participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 8, and likely will not play in Week 1.

Texans | Will Fuller still expected to start    Thu Sep 8, 12:31 AM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was added to the injury report Wednesday, Sept. 7, due to a hamstring injury, but he is still expected to play and start in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears barring a setback.

Footballguys view: We like this matchup even if the injury dampens our enthusiasm. The Bears secondary isn't great beyond Kyle Fuller, who will likely be on top of DeAndre Hopkins. So Fuller could have a nice day, although the production might be capped depending on what we see from Brock Osweiler. Fuller's a solid WR4 with upside this week in all formats.

Texans | Houston's Wednesday injury report for Week 1    Wed Sep 7, 07:21 PM

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7. LB Akeem Dent (concussion) and OT Derek Newton (hamstring) fully participated in practice.

Footballguys view: Brown is not going to be playing this weekend, and there's not a date specified for his return. The Texans did activate him from the PUP list, so the expectation is that he'll be back before Week 6. Chris Clark is one of the more competent backups in the league, but Brown is one of the best, so it's still a significant dropoff.

Texans | J.J. Watt limited Wednesday    Wed Sep 7, 07:18 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Footballguys view: It sounds like Watt is within range of playing the whole game, although he might not be as effective as he usually is. Still, 80-90% of Watt is better than most NFL players. His presence hurts this matchup for the Bears.
