Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller was called an 'explosive' and 'versatile' player by general manager Rick Smith, and head coach Bill O'Brien said he was impressed by Miller after meeting with him during the pre-draft process.

Footballguys view: He's a great addition to this offense and with DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller as well as Jaelen Strong, this could be one of the most dangerous receiving groups in the league once Miller's production and technique catches his talent.

The Houston Texans selected Ohio State WR Braxton Miller with the No. 85 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft on Friday, April 29.

Footballguys view: The Texans continue to add to their new offense. DeAndre Hopkins, Kyle Fuller on the other side and Miller in the slot will be a potent combination. Footballguy Andrew Garda is covering the draft and says he's hearing the team is very down on Jaelen Strong and if he doesn't prove himself soon, might struggle to survive the year or perhaps even make the final roster.

Texans | Will Fuller adds missing element     Thu Apr 28, 11:18 PM

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller's speed adds a new element to the offense, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: The Texans are hoping that he can take the top off the defense, which will be easier to do when defenses are occupied with DeAndre Hopkins. That's going to help the team make use of Brock Osweiler's big arm.

The Houston Texans acquired the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from the Washington Redskins in exchange for the 22nd pick in the 2016 NFL draft and a 2017 sixth-round pick. The Texans selected WR Will Fuller with the pick.

Footballguys view: Clearly the Texans were worried about someone else jumping up for Fuller. The Texans have a nice group of receivers now and it should help Brock Osweiler in his first full season as a starter.

The Houston Texans selected Notre Dame WR Will Fuller with the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28. The Texans traded up with the Washington Redskins for this pick.

Louisiana Tech DT Vernon Butler worked out for the Houston Texans recently, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Texans are always looking for more and more ways to continue improving the defense. Butler would be a nice addition though he is a bit undersized. He makes up for it a bit with a quick first step and could develop more tools with some time. He's a third or fourth round pick worth their time.

South Florida TE Sean Price will work out for the Houston Texans Friday, April 22.

Footballguys view: Price holds the school record for tight ends with 75 career receptions for 897 yards. He's only 6'2" 245 pounds and not overly fast or quick. He should go late in the draft and might only be used as an H-back at the pro level.

Auburn WR Ricardo Louis worked out for the Houston Texans this week.

Footballguys view: Louis is an intriguing late-round prospect we're interested in. He can track passes deep, and he's got the ability to pick up yards after the catch consistently.

Texans | J.J. Watt close to full health    Wed Apr 20, 04:53 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin, abdomen) is close to completing his rehabilitation from groin and abdominal injuries that required surgery in January. Watt said he feels good and is close to 100% as he participates in the Texans' offseason conditioning program.

Footballguys view: The Texans would like to replicate the plan the Broncos won the Super Bowl with, winning with defense and a mediocre offense. They have the pieces for the offense, courtesy of signing Brock Osweiler, and Watt is a vital piece of the defense that has to do the heavy lifting.

Louisiana Tech RB Kenneth Dixon is visiting with the Houston Texans Wednesday, April 20, according to a source. Dixon also had pre-draft visits with the San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: Widely regarded as a second round pick, Dixon runs with good determination, solid balance and who ends his runs with authority. Houston needs a running back to help replace the departed Arian Foster, and Dixon would be a nice fit, potentially developing into a three down starter.

Texans | Darius Jackson visits with Texans    Tue Apr 19, 11:56 AM

Eastern Michigan RB Darius Jackson is visiting with the Houston Texans Tuesday, April 19.

Texans | Releasing B.J. Daniels    Mon Apr 18, 04:35 PM

Houston Texans QB B.J. Daniels is being released Monday, April 18.

Footballguys view: The Texans are cleaning house at the QB position. Brian Hoyer was released earlier, and now Daniels is out the door. The team should move forward with Brock Osweiler as the starter and Brandon Weeden as a backup. Expect the Texans to select a passer late in the draft too.

Texans | Nate Sudfeld to visit Houston    Mon Apr 18, 03:26 PM

Indiana QB Nate Sudfeld will visit the Houston Texans Tuesday, April 19.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld is an interesting late-round prospect the Texans could be considering. He's tall, has a rocket arm and can move around in the pocket...kind of like the Texans new starter Brock Osweiler. Sudfeld was impressive earlier this year at the East-West Shrine Game and has the tools that make him an intriguing developmental player.

Texans | J.J. Watt still working hard    Mon Apr 18, 01:08 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) still is working out nine times a week this offseason but that is down from the 10 workouts he would do last offseason.

Footballguys view: In other news; oxygen is important. Yes, Watt is working hard...that's all this guy does. Expect him to lead a strong Texans defense once again in 2016.

Texans | Brian Hoyer released    Sun Apr 17, 05:10 PM

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer was released Sunday, April 17, according to a source.

Footballguys view: When the Texans overpaid Brock Osweiler earlier this year in free agency, this move was telegraphed. Hoyer should draw some interest from teams looking for veteran depth and a spot starter.

Texans | Duane Brown should be ready    Sat Apr 16, 01:25 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins' fifth-year option was exercised Friday, April 15. He is scheduled to make $7.915 million in 2017.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Hopkins is a star, and the Texans want to do whatever they can to keep him around for as long as possible. With new QB Brock Osweiler, the Texans should air it out early and often in 2016.

Texans | Brock Osweiler looking good    Thu Apr 7, 03:03 PM

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler is looking good during the team's offseason workouts, according to a source. WR DeAndre Hopkins has been off the charts, too.

Footballguys view: To paraphrase Star Wars: good against air is one thing, good against the living? That's something else. We'll see what Osweiler can do when the fur flies, and not get too excited before we see something concrete. That said, his potential in this offense is intriguing.

Notre Dame RB C.J. Prosise visited the Houston Texans, according to a source.

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Brandon Weeden re-signed to a two-year, $4 million contract Friday, April 1, according to a source.

Texans | Re-sign Brandon Weeden    Fri Apr 1, 04:03 PM

Houston Texans QB Brandon Weeden re-signed to an undisclosed deal Friday, April 1.

Footballguys view: With Weeden signed, the Texans are certainly going to move on from Brian Hoyer. We'll see Hoyer traded or released in the near future. With Brock Osweiler as the starter, Weeden won't see the field unless there's an injury.

Texans | J.J. Watt had five groin tears    Thu Mar 31, 02:34 PM

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (hand, groin, abdomen, back) had five torn core muscles surgically repaired in the offseason. According to a source, Watt had partially torn left and right abdominals and a partially torn right adductor longus. He also had a fully torn left adductor longus and a fully torn left adductor pectineus, which are two of the three muscles that connect the pelvic bone to the left thigh bone.

Footballguys view: Watt was far more beat up than we thought he was. They need him back to 100 percent to keep this defense playing at the high level it has the last few years.

Texans | J.J. Watt had herniated disk    Thu Mar 31, 12:23 PM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (hand, groin, back) revealed that he played the second half of the season with a herniated disk in his back along with the groin and hand injuries he suffered late in the year.

Texans | Brian Hoyer departure imminent    Tue Mar 29, 06:57 PM

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is available for trade as both sides have mutually agreed to part ways.

Footballguys view: With the acquisition of Brock Osweiler, Hoyer is no longer of need. There might be a team interested in adding Hoyer as a reserve or "bridge" QB while a young passer is groomed to take over.

Texans | A.J. Bouye signs tender    Mon Mar 28, 02:30 PM

Houston Texans restricted free-agent CB A.J. Bouye signed his $1.671 million tender Monday, March 28, according to a source.

Texans | Daniel Lasco invited to prospect day    Sat Mar 26, 03:45 PM

California RB Daniel Lasco was invited to the Houston Texans' prospect day, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Lasco is one of our favorite sleeper RBs in this draft class. He may be a mid- to late-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, but he's got the all-purpose skill set to be a starter in the NFL. With the recent history of Cal backs (Marshawn Lynch, C.J. Anderson), we'll certainly be stashing Lasco in any dynasty league.

Texans | Duane Brown's rehab going well    Thu Mar 24, 11:45 PM

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown's (quadriceps) latest checkup didn't reveal any bad news, and the team believes he will be ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Texans | Brian Hoyer still has a role    Mon Mar 21, 12:27 PM

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer still has a place as 'our backup' behind QB Brock Osweiler, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: The Texans have a need for a quality backup behind newly signed Brock Osweiler. Clearly, with $18 million in annual average salary, Osweiler is their starter but Hoyer is a better backup option than guys like Tom Savage or B.J. Daniels.

Texans | Brock Osweiler praised by coach    Mon Mar 21, 12:01 AM

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler received praise from head coach Bill O'Brien Sunday, March 20. 'We studied all of the snaps he had,' O'Brien said. 'He is tough. He is an accurate passer. I like his leadership. Of all the people who have coached him, everybody spoke highly of him. We are really happy with our decision to sign him.'

Footballguys view: We'll see if Osweiler can flourish under O'Brien in 2016. Osweiler has a big arm, but he struggled with accuracy on passes over 12 yards last season in seven starts with the Broncos. He needs to develop strong chemistry with WR DeAndre Hopkins ASAP. From a fantasy perspective, we see Osweiler as a QB2 who can fill in on bye weeks for you.

Texans | Arian Foster still passionate    Sun Mar 20, 01:40 PM

Former Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (Achilles') still has a passion for football and is still motivated to play, despite the rigorous process of rehabilitating his ruptured Achilles' tendon, according to his brother, Abdul Foster.

Footballguys view: Injuries aren't going to rob Foster of his passion for the game. We feel Foster can still provide a team with quality veteran depth--at least. With this Achilles' injury, we may see Foster have to wait until training camp injuries hit before he signs with a new team.

Texans | Corey Coleman hoping to land in Houston?    Sat Mar 19, 09:04 PM

Baylor WR Corey Coleman spoke with Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien during his pro day Wednesday, March 16, and praised O'Brien, the Texans organization and WR DeAndre Hopkins after his workout.

Footballguys view: Coleman has the speed to stretch the field. He can get on top of the defense in the blink of an eye, and he does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. The Texans have a bunch of question marks at WR behind Hopkins, so adding Coleman in the second round could make sense...if he's on the board. There's a chance that Coleman could wind up getting drafted in the first round.

Texans | Jonathan Grimes re-ups in Houston    Fri Mar 18, 11:33 AM

Free-agent RB Jonathan Grimes (Texans) agreed to a one-year deal Friday, March 18, to return to the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Grimes sticks with the Texans to give them valuable depth behind Lamar Miller. He won't be much of a fantasy factor unless Miller gets banged up.

Texans | Brian Hoyer wants to stay in Houston    Thu Mar 17, 11:23 PM

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer likes playing for head coach Bill O'Brien and wants to stay with the team.
