Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith (shoulder) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: Just as expected...this shoulder injury is no big deal. Smith makes for a decent fill in at QB with six teams on bye. He's facing a pathetic Jets secondary in Week 9.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (back) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Charles is good to go for fantasy owners in Week 9. The Chiefs should be able to have their way with the Jets, so behind Charles we like Knile Davis as a 'what the heck' flex.

Chiefs | Alex Smith expected to practice    Wed Oct 29, 01:47 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith (shoulder) is expected to be a full participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 29, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Chiefs | Alex Smith expected to play    Mon Oct 27, 02:39 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith (shoulder) is expected to play in Week 9 even with a sprained throwing shoulder.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs take on the hapless Jets in Week 9. Smith could have his arm in a sling and still throw for 250 yards. Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but the Jets secondary is not going to put up much of a fight.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will practice    Thu Oct 23, 12:51 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (head) will participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 23, and the team does not plan on adding him to their injury report.

Footballguys view: What an odd story. He was never looked at on the sidelines but what he described on the radio earlier this week sounded like a concussion. Whatever the reality of it, it seems like he has moved through protocol quickly and should be ready to go. He's a top five RB1 option this week.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles showed concussion symptoms    Wed Oct 22, 02:15 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (concussion) showed no signs of a concussion when he was checked after a helmet-to-helmet hit in Week 7, according to trainer Rick Burkholder. However, Charles said he was never checked, and he said after the game that the hit was no big deal. He changed his tune after the game: 'It definitely hurt,' Charles said. 'A couple plays later, I just (saw) this light buzz around my eyes and I was trying to catch 'em. But I was like, 'Let's get the ball and run again.'' Charles had other concussion symptoms, as well, but didn't think he had a concussion. He was cleared from the concussion protocol Tuesday, Oct. 21, and was cleared to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22, but the team will continue to monitor him.

Footballguys view: Um, the Chiefs had better keep an eye on Charles here. He's clearly the best player on the roster, and Charles is one of the best backs in all of football. We're happy that Andy Reid didn't have to apologize (again) for not using Charles enough. Charles was a big reason why the Chiefs were able to beat the Chargers in Week 7.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles finding room to run    Tue Oct 7, 09:56 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has averaged more than five yards per carry in each of the past two games, and offensive line coach Doug Pederson said improved play from the offensive line has helped boost the rushing attack.

Footballguys view: Charles ranks 6th in the NFL with a healthy average of 3.57 yards per rush before contact. The league average is 2.53 yards before contact per rush so far in 2014. That shows the offensive line is doing a good job of opening holes for the superstar runner.

Chiefs | Andy Reid regrets play-calling decisions    Tue Oct 7, 12:36 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles didn't touch the ball on any of the team's final 10 plays of their Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and head coach Andy Reid regrets his play-calling decisions down the stretch. The Chiefs failed to convert on a third and short early in the fourth quarter, electing to pass instead of run with Charles.

Footballguys view: What's going on Andy? He messed up the gameplane and playcalling in the Week 1 blowout loss (at home) against the Tennessee Titans. Does some coach need to remind him how awesome Jamaal Charles is? Something needs to be fixed here, because these Reid apologies are wearing thin.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles received a limited amount of touches in Week 5, because the offense only ran 15 plays in the second half of the game, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Charles can get a large workload--and he will moving forward--provided the Chiefs can possess the ball for a reasonable amount of time. They'll work on that stuff during the Week 6 bye.

Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas set to debut    Sat Oct 4, 12:10 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB De'Anthony Thomas (hamstring) is expected to make his regular season debut in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers after missing the first four games due to a hamstring injury. Special teams coach Dave Toub is reasonably confident Thomas will perform well in a punt-return role. 'We got him back there enough where he had to make some catches, he made some people miss, he got hit one time and spun out and got a touchdown,' Toub said. 'He's got a little bit on tape, so people know about him.'
