Chiefs | Joe Mays released    Thu Mar 5, 05:03 PM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Joe Mays was cut Thursday, March 5.

Footballguys view: Mays is shot out of a cannon as a run-defender, but he guesses--and guesses wrong--a lot. Some team may be interested in the two-down thumper.

Chiefs | Kansas City may cut Dwayne Bowe    Thu Mar 5, 11:31 AM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe my be cut if the team can not trade him.

Footballguys view: Bowe comes with a $14 million cap hit this year. There's $9 million left in dead money on his contract. Bowe is a good wide receiver when motivated, but that has been a problem for him during his pro career. We can't imagine a ton of teams interested in adding Bowe with his contract being that big.

Chiefs | KC might take run at Randall Cobb    Wed Mar 4, 10:24 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to make a run at Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb should he hit the open market.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs need as much help as they can get at the WR position. No wide receiver caught a touchdown pass for the Chiefs in 2014, and they need to work diligently to change that. We could see Cobb or Jeremy Maclin (Eagles) be targets for the Chiefs. They also may target a wide receiver in the 2015 NFL draft.

Chiefs | Justin Houston franchise tagged    Mon Mar 2, 09:40 AM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Justin Houston had the franchise tag placed on him Monday, March 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs aren't going to let one of the best pass-rushers in the league move on in free agency. They'll work diligently to get something done with Houston, but now they're also going to turn their attention to keeping center Rodney Hudson.

Chiefs | Justin Houston moving closer to tag status    Sun Mar 1, 02:18 AM

Free-agent LB Justin Houston (Chiefs) is moving closer to franchise tag status with the Kansas City Chiefs. There were rumors talks on a new deal had begun, but sources indicate the rumors are false and the team will likely slap the tag on Houston.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs aren't going to let Houston go. He'll likely be tagged, and the team will have until July 15th to work out a new long-term deal.

Chiefs | Meet with Kurt Coleman's rep    Fri Feb 27, 02:27 AM

Free-agent SS Kurt Coleman (Chiefs) had his representative meet with the Kansas City Chiefs at the NFL Scouting Combine, and talks were positive. Coleman is likely seeking a deal that pays up to $2 million per season.

Footballguys view: Coleman had a good year as a reserve safety for the Chiefs last year. He led the team with three interceptions even though he only played 396 of a possible 1,086 defensive snaps in 2014.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce to have bigger role    Thu Feb 26, 05:36 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, who led the team with 67 catches and 862 receiving yards in 2014, is expected to be a more prominent part of the passing offense in 2015 after the team released TE Anthony Fasano Thursday, Feb. 26. Kelce was in the lineup for roughly 65% of the snaps last year. However, the Chiefs were most effective with three tight ends in the lineup last year, so they may shop for another tight end in the draft of in free agency.

Footballguys view: Kelce was supposed to have a bigger role last season but that rarely was the case, so we'll believe it when we see it. That said, having him as a tight end on your roster could pay off big later on once everything is settled. It's not outlandish to have Kelce as your top TE in 2015 as he has the potential to finish as a top-3 player at his position.

Chiefs | Met with Rodney Hudson's agent    Tue Feb 24, 07:27 AM

Free-agent C Rodney Hudson (Chiefs) was the subject of discussion between the Kansas City Chiefs and Hudson's representatives, who met at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Talks will continue between the two sides.

Chiefs | Interest in Benardrick McKinney    Tue Feb 24, 06:46 AM

Mississippi State LB Benardrick McKinney is drawing interest from the Kansas City Chiefs, who may like him as insurance in case free-agent LB Justin Houston (Chiefs) walks away.

Chiefs | KC interested in Justin Hardy    Sun Feb 22, 07:59 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly very high on East Carolina WR Justin Hardy, according to sources at the NFL Combine.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs need all the help they can get at the WR position. Hardy would be a good fit as he's an explosive player who can adjust to poorly thrown passes. More than 70 percent of Hardy's catches went for a first down in 2014. He's likely to be a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Chiefs | Ron Parker in talks with team    Sat Feb 21, 03:12 AM

Free-agent CB Ron Parker (Chiefs) is in talks with the Kansas City Chiefs to return to the club in 2015. Parker wants $6 million a season in his contract.

Footballguys view: It would be a wise move for the Chiefs to keep Parker around. He finished second on the team in tackles last year (94 total), starting 15 games (11 at safety) for Kansas City. Parker subbed in for Eric Berry from Weeks 3 to 9 while Berry recovered from a high ankle sprain. He then made the move to strong safety after Berry was placed on the non-football injury list after being diagnosed with lymphoma in Week 13. At this time, it's unknown if Berry will play in 2015.

Chiefs | Have interest in Keith Mumphrey    Fri Feb 20, 11:56 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have interviewed wide receiver Keith Mumphrey (Michigan State) at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine.

Footballguys view: While Mumphrey wouldn't be the answer to fixing Kansas City's passing offense from a weapons standpoint, he could be a solid addition overall. He runs very good routes and has solid size, but he lacks the athleticism to be a high-level productive wideout. He might get drafted but he's going to be a long-shot to be an impact player.

Chiefs | Chiefs high on Dorial Green-Beckham    Thu Feb 19, 10:11 PM

University of Oklahoma WR Dorial Green-Beckham is drawing interest from the Kansas City Chiefs. 'Physically, we think he has all the gifts in the world,' Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said Thursday, Feb. 19. 'We've all admired him. All of us who have been in the state of Missouri and the Kansas City area have seen him afar, have admired his physical traits. I think now what people want to do is get a feel for him as a person, see where he is at this state. Just see where he is, that's what we are doing. We will be meeting him in the next couple days and I look forward to it.'

Footballguys view: Green-Beckham is a phenomenal talent, but off-field issues will make his draft stock fall. The Chiefs have a huge need at the wide receiver position, and Green-Beckham makes a lot of sense for them.

Chiefs | Waive A.J. Jenkins     Tue Feb 17, 02:02 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs waived WR A.J. Jenkins Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Footballguys view: Jenkins has now washed out with two teams, and his NFL future is in serious doubt. Originally a first-round pick by the 49ers in 2012, Jenkins has never been able to translate his speed and agility into actual production. With so many good wide receivers already in the league, we can't imagine teams being hot and heavy to add a disappointment like Jenkins.

Chiefs | Chiefs, Justin Houston talking at combine     Mon Feb 16, 11:03 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Justin Houston's representation is expected to meet with the team at the NFL Scouting Combine to discuss a contract extension, and a source familiar with the situation said the Chiefs will not designate Houston with a franchise tender prior to the meeting.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs could use the franchise tag on Houston. He's one of the best pass-rushers in the game today, and Houston is coming off a 22-sack season. There's no way the Chiefs are going to let that kind of talent and production walk in free agency.

Chiefs | Will work on deal with Justin Houston    Sun Feb 15, 12:35 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Justin Houston's agent is expected to talk with the Chiefs this week about a possible long-term contract for Houston, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Houston if the two sides are not able to reach an agreement on a new deal. That would give them until July 15th to work out a new long-term deal with Houston.

Chiefs | Tyler Bray not expected to be backup option    Fri Feb 13, 04:22 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Tyler Bray (knee) likely will not be an option for the No. 2 quarterback job since he will miss offseason workouts and training camp because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Bray just isn't that good. He's got a strong arm, but he struggles to throw it in the ocean standing on the beach.

Chiefs | Jason Avant's future in KC uncertain    Sun Feb 8, 07:58 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent WR Jason Avant is viewed as a good influence in the locker room, but the team must decide if they will try to upgrade.

Footballguys view: LOL. The team needs a huge upgrade at the wide receiver position. They are mostly terrible at the spot, and they passed on selecting a WR last year in the draft in what will go down as one of the best WR classes (if not THE best) in NFL history.

Chiefs | KC to decide on Rodney Hudson soon    Sun Feb 8, 07:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent C Rodney Hudson could fetch more than $7 million per season at the outset of free agency. The team will need to decide if he will be too expensive, if they can use the draft to grab another center, look through free agency or find someone already on the roster like C Eric Kush. Hudson's preference is to stay with the team.

Chiefs | Thomas Gafford likely on way out    Sun Feb 8, 07:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LS Thomas Gafford is likely to be let go after the team signed two long snappers to reserve-future deals.

Chiefs | Justin Houston likely to be tagged    Sun Feb 8, 04:21 PM

Kansas City Chiefs OLB Justin Houston is likely to receive the franchise tag before free agency gets underway next month.

Footballguys view: The franchise tag should cost the Chiefs roughly $13.1 million in 2015. That gives Houston a one-year fully guaranteed salary, but it also gives the Chiefs until July 15th to work out a new long-term contract with their talented pass-rusher.

Chiefs | Alex Smith needs receivers?    Wed Jan 28, 04:50 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith needs more weapons around him, according to impending free-agent LB Justin Houston. He believes the Chiefs can win a championship with Smith. "For the past two years we had winning seasons. This year, I feel like our offensive line struggled a little bit, we had some injuries that caused him to get sacked more than usual. But I think we can do it," Houston noted Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Footballguys view: There shouldn't be a question mark behind the headline. Does Alex Smith need receivers? Of course he does! The Chiefs had the worst collection of WRs in the league last year. If they want to contend for the AFC West title, they need more weapons in the passing game. It was foolish for the Chiefs to pass on a WR in the first round of a historic WR draft class in 2014.

Chiefs | Phillip Dorsett interviews    Fri Jan 23, 03:01 AM

Miami WR Phillip Dorsett interviewed with the Kansas City Chiefs during Senior Bowl week in Mobile, Ala.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs need all the help they can get at wide receiver. Our very own Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman liked what they saw from Dorsett at the Senior Bowl practices this week. Dorsett is quick off the line of scrimmage and elusive after the catch.

  Chiefs | 19 signed to Reserve/Futures contracts    Tue Jan 20, 04:30 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed TE Brandon Barden, WR Armon Binns, LB JoJo Dickson, DT Loni Fangupo, OT Curtis Feigt, LS Brandon Hartson, OG Ricky Henry, CB Aaron Hester, LS Jorgen Hus, WR Corbin Louks, CB Deji Olatoye, QB Terrelle Pryor, OG Jarrod Pughsley, WR Da'Rick Rogers, TE Adam Schiltz, OT Derek Sherrod, FB Spencer Ware, WR Fred Williams and DT Jerel Worthy to Reserve/Futures contracts Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Footballguys view: In super super deep dynasty leagues we're still holding out hope for Da'Rick Rogers. He's an incredible talent with a fantastic size/speed combination. Keep monitoring him on a WR-starved team like the Chiefs.

Chiefs | Tyler Bray has torn ACL    Tue Jan 20, 04:16 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Tyler Bray (knee) has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues can let go of Bray. He was a long-shot coming out of Tennessee, but his arm strength always made him an interesting prospect. This knee injury could knock him out of the pros as a guy who was barely hanging onto a roster spot.

Chiefs | LaVon Brazill, Joe Morgan worked out    Sat Jan 10, 09:10 AM

Free-agent WR LaVon Brazill (Colts) and WR Joe Morgan (Saints) worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Jan. 8.

Footballguys view: Brazill has good speed to get down the field, but his time with the Colts was a disappointment. Morgan was always a tease with the Saints because of his size/speed combination, but he's never produced consistently. Both are only worth monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues.

Chiefs | Da'Rick Rogers signs    Thu Jan 8, 03:03 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed WR Da'Rick Rogers to a contract Wednesday, Jan. 7. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ah what might have been. At least the Chiefs are adding a wide receiver with incredible natural talent. Rogers has failed to stick in the NFL, but he does have high upside. Keep an eye on him in super deep dynasty leagues.

Chiefs | Terrelle Pryor signs    Thu Jan 8, 02:58 AM

Updating a previous item, the Kansas City Chiefs signed QB Terrelle Pryor to a one-year contract Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Footballguys view: An interesting move for a team that already has Alex Smith, Chase Daneil, Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray on the roster. Pryor is a fine athlete with a rocket arm, but he struggles with accuracy and decision making as a passer.

Chiefs | Terrelle Pryor working out    Wed Jan 7, 12:38 PM

Free-agent QB Terrelle Pryor (Seahawks) is working out for the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday, Jan. 7, according to a source. Pryor is only working out as a quarterback.

Footballguys view: Pryor is still trying to prove that he can be a QB at this level even though some have suggested a position switch. He's athletic and has a rocket arm, but Pryor fails to read defenses quickly.

Chiefs | Aaron Hester signs    Tue Jan 6, 06:10 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed CB Aaron Hester to a Reserve/Futures contract Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Chiefs | Alex Smith unattractive to WRs?    Mon Jan 5, 07:04 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith has earned a reputation for throwing the shorter routes, which means receivers often don't pile up big statistics when they play with him. That could have an effect on free-agent wideouts deciding to sign with the Chiefs over other teams.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs were *this* close to signing Emmanuel Sanders last offseason. Instead, Sanders chose "wide receiver heaven" with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Sanders put up career-high numbers in 2014 with 101 catches, 1,404 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. He would not have put up those numbers in Kansas City.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe could be cut    Mon Jan 5, 07:00 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe is a candidate to be cut this offseason if the team can't work out a reduced contract with him.

Footballguys view: Bowe is not set to be a free agent until 2018 with his current contract. This deal pays him an annual average salary of $11.2 million and it had $20 million guaranteed. This was one of the worst deals the Chiefs have done in recent years.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed WR Corbin Louks to a Reserve/Futures contract Friday, Jan. 2.

Chiefs | Brandon Hartson signs futures deal    Wed Dec 31, 07:11 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent LS Brandon Hartson (Bears) to a futures contract Wednesday, Dec. 31. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Chiefs | 12 signed to Futures contracts    Tue Dec 30, 07:17 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed TE Brandon Barden, WR Armon Binns, LB JoJo Dickson, DT Loni Fangupo, OT Curtis Feigt, OG Ricky Henry, LS Jorgen Hus, DB Deji Olatoye, OG Jarrod Pughsley, TE Adam Schiltz, RB Spencer Ware and WR Fred Williams to Reserve/Futures contracts Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Footballguys view: Binns and Ware are worth keeping an eye on here if you play in a super deep dynasty league. Binns is a big-bodied receiver with good my-ball mentality, but his lack of athleticism has held him back at that position. Ware is an instinctive running back/fullback 'tweener from LSU. He has a nose for the end zone, plus he can run over defenders with ease.
