Chiefs | Jamaal Charles takes part in warm-ups    Thu Sep 18, 04:09 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) took part in the early portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Sept. 18, and his availability in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins is unknown. He went through warm-ups and was then tended to by a trainer before joining the running back drills. Charles did a drill that involved cutting through cones to catch a pass, and he didn't appear to have any problems.

Footballguys view: Ankle sprain, smankle sprain looks like all that Knile Davis talk was for naught. Let's put this in perspective though as we don't know how Charles will feel tonight or tomorrow, we don't know how Andy Reid will misuse--excuse me, use him and we don't know if the team will be cautious with him and split carries off to Davis. We--ever so carefully--have Charles as a RB2 with some upside. Given the questions around his injury and the poor showing the Chiefs have had this season, a little caution is a good thing.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practicing    Thu Sep 18, 02:50 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) is participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: As we said in our email update, Teicher has deep ties in KC and is a solid source--he knows things. We'll watch this carefully for any soreness or issues which might crop up from the practice. This is all good but sit tight--we don't have all the info yet and he may still sit. If he doesn't you have to like him as an RB1.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (ankle) high ankle sprain does not appear to be severe, according to head coach Andy Reid. His status is unknown.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Chiefs and for fantasy owners here. Monitor the practice report to see when Charles gets back into action. Just because the injury is not severe doesn't mean that Charles is immediately back. Knile Davis is a hot waiver wire addition this week.

Chiefs | Ankle sprain for Jamaal Charles    Sun Sep 14, 08:19 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in the Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos, head coach Andy Reid said Sunday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: The question is how ready Charles will be to play at Miami next week. Knile Davis's big day had to frustrate Charles owners, and it may cause the Chiefs to be cautious with their offensive MVP because the backup was so productive in a tough divisional matchup. Charles will have an MRI tomorrow according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) will not return to the Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos after leaving in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Charles and the Chiefs travel to Miami next week, in case you were wondering. Knile Davis has looked good in his stead, so Kansas City won't feel the need to rush him back.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe expected to play     Fri Sep 12, 05:29 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (quadriceps) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Sept. 12, and he's listed as probable for Week 2 against the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: Bowe is only a WR3/Flex play at best against the Broncos, but the Chiefs being in catch up mode for most of the game could fuel him to a nice stat line in his return.

Kansas City Chiefs OG Jeff Allen (elbow) is scheduled to undergo elbow surgery and likely will miss the rest of the 2014 season, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs offensive line was already replacing multiple starters, now they have lost a starting guard, while a starting tackle is also suspended for the next three games. You have to play Jamaal Charles this week, but don't be surprised if he is bottled up again.

Chiefs | Joe Mays will miss 8-10 weeks    Fri Sep 12, 03:56 AM

Kansas City Chiefs ILB Joe Mays (wrist) will miss 8-10 weeks due to wrist surgery, and he should be able to start practicing in mid to late October.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs are just getting thinner and thinner at ILB. Look for tight ends and running backs to do well against them this year.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe not expected to be limited    Thu Sep 11, 07:27 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (quadriceps) isn't expected to be limited in any way in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos in his first game of the season after serving a one-game suspension, according to head coach Andy Reid. "He had a great training camp and preseason," Reid said. "I haven't seen anything (like that). I liked what I saw there. He came back in great shape. We expect him to have a real good year."

Footballguys view: The team can't limit him. They need to play out of their mind offensively to stand toe-to-toe against the league's best offense. The Broncos should boat race the Chiefs--even if Denver doesn't play their best.

Free-agent LB Nick Barnett (Redskins), LB Desmond Bishop (Cardinals), LB Marvin Mitchell (Vikings) and OT Jason Weaver (Saints) tried out for the Kansas City Chiefs this week.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe to be eased in?    Wed Sep 10, 07:25 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (quadriceps) returned to a full practice Wednesday, Sept. 10, but head coach Andy Reid said the team plans to ease him back in after he was suspended for the first week of the season. "We'll ease him back in and make sure he gets him back into the swing of things," Reid said of Bowe. "He really hadn't done much for a few weeks."

Footballguys view: The team may want to do that, but it's a recipe for disaster against the Broncos in Week 2. They don't have the offense to hang with Denver, but with a healthy (and not suspended) Bowe they could maybe keep it within 10 points.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles underused     Tue Sep 9, 10:10 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles received just 11 touches in Week 1, rushing seven times for 19 yards and catching four passes for 15 yards. Head coach Andy Reid took the blame for Charles' lack of involvement in the offense. 'Not giving 25 the ball more than seven times is negligence on my part,' Reid said Monday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: This just doesn't make sense. Charles is one of the best--if not THE best--running backs in the game today. The team needs to get him involved early and often moving forward. We'll see if the Chiefs can jump-start Charles in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs placed LB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') and DE Mike DeVito (Achilles') on Reserve/Injured Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Chiefs | Two players out for season    Mon Sep 8, 01:31 PM

Kansas City Chiefs DE Mike DeVito (Achilles') and LB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') will miss the rest of the season because of Achilles' tendon injuries they suffered during the team's Week 1 game, according to head coach Andy Reid. Both players will undergo surgery to repair the injuries.

Footballguys view: Huge losses for the Chiefs' defense here. DeVito is an underrated player on the defensive line, and Johnson is one of the best linebackers in the game. Their run defense is going to suffer. Take note of running backs playing against the Chiefs...just so happens to be Montee Ball (Broncos) in Week 2.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Andy Reid confirmed Sunday, Sept. 7.

Footballguys view: Kansas City can't afford to lose Johnson. The matchup next week at Denver threatens to be a bloodbath with this defense adjusting to losing its leader.
