Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes, offense will play half    Tue Aug 14, 02:43 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and the first-team offense will play the whole first half in Week 2 of the preseason, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Mahomes only played in one game last year for the Chiefs so any added experience is a good thing. The Chiefs are looking forward to him leading the offense this year and Fantasy GMs are excited too. Mahomes is a QB2 with upside being selected at QB16 (11.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Eric Berry misses third straight practice    Tue Aug 14, 12:15 PM

Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Berry (heel) did not participate in practice for the third straight day Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: It is not known whether Berry's issue is on the same side (left) as the torn achilles from last year. He was also having problems with his right achilles in camp last year. Ron Parker is gone, so the Chiefs have less depth in the secondary at safety. We'll be watching this.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West not ready to return    Mon Aug 6, 02:04 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: With a healthy Spencer Ware and offseason additions to the RB room, West is on the roster bubble. We'll see how long it takes for him to get through this concussion issue. West will have his work cut out for him to make the 53-man roster this year.

Chiefs | Sammy Watkins leaves early    Mon Aug 6, 01:11 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (hip) left practice early Monday, Aug. 6, because of a hip injury.

Footballguys view: Watkins is a fine talent and he's been showing great chemistry with young QB Patrick Mahomes. However, injuries have cost him multiple games during his pro career. Watkins hasn't played a full 16-game regular season since his rookie year of 2014. The injury is considered minor but certainly one worth monitoring as the Chiefs are taking precautions here.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes mistake-prone early on    Wed Aug 1, 02:28 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes made a handful of miscues in practice again Wednesday, Aug. 1, and he now has seven interceptions through six camp practices. 'He had a few hiccups today,' offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said. 'But that's a part of the process. When you're young you need those hiccups because they become valuable lessons.'

Footballguys view: It's something to monitor but this is not out of the blue. A second-year quarterback learning from a new offensive coordinator is going to make those mistakes. Mahomes is an exciting young quarterback and his rushing ability makes him an intriguing fantasy asset as a QB2 in 2018. He currently is going off the board at QB15 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West may not make roster    Tue Jul 31, 12:03 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West could be a surprise cut in light of the team's offseason addition of Damien Williams, according to Brooke Pryor and Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star.

Footballguys view: West also has suffered a concussion, his second in two years, and Spencer Ware is back and healthy. West has been competent in his role, but hasn't really added value. A release wouldn't be that big of a surprise.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West has concussion    Sun Jul 29, 08:36 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion and did not participate in practice Sunday, July 29. West left practice early Saturday, July 28, after taking a blow to the head.

Footballguys view: West might be on the roster fringe if this causes an extended absence. He also suffered a concussion last year during the season. Spencer Ware is back, and the team signed Damien and Kerwynn Williams in the offseason, so there's competition for every touch and spot.

Chiefs | Kareem Hunt continues to be limited    Sat Jul 28, 02:23 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt (hamstring) was limited to individual drills during practice Saturday, July 28.

Chiefs | Rave reviews for Sammy Watkins    Fri Jul 27, 11:29 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins was praised for his work ethic by head coach Andy Reid, and QB Patrick Mahomes said it has been easy to develop chemistry with Watkins.

Footballguys view: Watkins won't always be drawing #1 corners, and his quarterback has a tremendous deep arm and creativity. This should be be a bounceback year for him, the only question is how big it will be.

Chiefs | Kareem Hunt limited early    Fri Jul 27, 08:32 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt (hamstring) has been limited during the early part of training camp because the team is easing him back into practice.

Chiefs | Damien Williams in full health for camp    Tue Jul 24, 05:04 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams (shoulder) is doing 'great,' according to the team's Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder. Williams was able to do 'everything' on the first day of camp Monday, July 23.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs have a jam packed backfield and Williams is at best third or fourth on the current depth chart. Undrafted out of Oklahoma in 2014, Williams has spent most of his career with the Dolphins. The Chiefs picked him up back in March as a free agent. Williams is a bigger back, measuring in at 5'11" 220 pounds. His career YPC average is just 3.6 yards so we're not expecting much from him even if he does make the 53-man roster.

Chiefs | Eli Rogers leaves without deal    Mon Jul 23, 07:04 PM

Free-agent WR Eli Rogers (Steelers) left his visit with the Kansas City Chiefs without a deal Monday, July 23, according to a source.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware to be eased back    Mon Jul 23, 02:41 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) is doing well in his recovery and will be eased back into practice.

Footballguys view: Ware missed all of last season due to this knee injury. He was going to be a big part of the Chiefs offense before going down in August of 2017. Now, Ware is working to be the primary backup behind Kareem Hunt in 2018. If healthy, Ware should be the no.2 back for the Chiefs and a player to handcuff to Hunt if your league is big enough.

Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas does some work    Mon Jul 23, 02:37 PM

Chiefs | Dee Ford on track to practice    Mon Jul 23, 02:33 PM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Dee Ford (back) is doing well in his recovery and should be able to participate in padded practices.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs need Ford to stay healthy and produce up to his potential as a pass rusher in 2018. Ford's 2017 season ended due to this back injury which required surgery. He did some individual work during the offseason and should get eased into action during training camp and the preseason.

Chiefs | Armani Watts saw time with starters    Fri Jul 20, 07:11 PM

Kansas City Chiefs FS Armani Watts received snaps with the first-team defense during offseason workouts when the team needed an extra safety.

Footballguys view: Watts spent his first two seasons at Texas A&M as a free safety, but over the last two years he was a 21-game starter at strong safety. A fourth-round pick of the Chiefs this year, Watts added about 20 pounds of muscle between the Senior Bowl and the Aggies pro day before the draft. Watts finds the play quickly and can force turnovers. He gives the Chiefs an interesting developmental prospect behind Eric Berry and Daniel Sorenson at the safety position.
