Chiefs | Staff treating Dwayne Bowe like an adult    Tue Apr 22, 06:58 PM

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid are treating WR Dwayne Bowe like an adult by allowing him to work hard while expressing himself. Reid has shown a willingness to trust Bowe's on-field observations and adjust Reid's play calling accordingly.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe focused on winning    Tue Apr 22, 06:34 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe is focused more on working hard with his teammates and winning than individual statistics entering the 2014 season. Bowe also hired a personal trainer and nutritionist.

Footballguys view: Bowe was trending up coming out of last season, and he is still an undisputed #1 receiver with a decent quarterback. He is vastly undervalued in early drafts, often falling out of the top 10 rounds.

Chiefs | Eric Fisher not expected to be out long    Mon Apr 21, 05:06 PM

Kansas City Chiefs OT Eric Fisher (shoulder, hernia) said there is no timetable for his return following multiple surgeries, but he doesn't think he'll be out for long. 'He's doing very well,' coach Andy Reid said. 'He's been here the whole offseason rehabbing and has made quite a bit of progress. He's doing all of his lower body work and rehabbing the shoulder, doing what he can with that part of it.' Fisher is expected to be fully ready for the start of the season. He said he's already up in weight from last season and plans to get stronger in his upper body.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce will take part in workouts    Mon Apr 21, 04:04 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) is progressing well in his recovery from a knee injury and will be able to participate in all of the drills during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Kelce had microfracture surgery last year, but he is at early enough juncture of his career that it shouldn't impact his long-term development. He is expected to be a big part of the offense this year.

Chiefs | Could consider LaMichael James    Sat Apr 19, 12:17 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs could consider pursuing San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James if he could become a slot receiver. The team likely would not have interest in James if he can only be a running back since they have RBs Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis on the roster.

Footballguys view: James could work well as a slot receiver. He could take the place of Dexter McCluster (Titans) who moved on in free agency. James has the speed and change of direction ability to be dangerous in space.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe's marijuana charges dropped    Wed Apr 16, 06:58 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe pleaded guilty Wednesday, April 16, after being arrested last November for marijuana possession.

Footballguys view: He pleaded guilty to lesser charges of littering and defective equipment, and in return, the marijuana charge was dismissed. He agred to pay $610 in fines and court costs. Bowe should avoid suspension by the league, but they're likely to put him in the substance-abuse program.

Chiefs | Meet with Aaron Murray    Wed Apr 16, 03:11 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs met with Georgia QB Aaron Murray Tuesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: Murray would be a fine developmental quarterback for the Chiefs behind Alex Smith. They need a young player to groom at the position with the hopes of one day being a future starter. Kansas City has not won a game with a quarterback they drafted since 1987 (Todd Blackledge).

Chiefs | Interest in Teddy Bridgewater    Mon Apr 14, 01:51 AM

Draft stock for Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater appears to be falling based on recent workouts, so the Kansas City Chiefs may take a flier on Bridgewater if he is available with the 23rd overall selection. The Chiefs do not have a second-round pick and it is believed Bridgewater would be insurance for QB Alex Smith.

Footballguys view: We've seen Bridgewater's draft stock fall since his average pro day performance. Some feel he could fall to the 20s in the first round--and perhaps even further. Bridgewater is an incredible quarterback who would be a great fit for the Chiefs. They haven't won a game with a quarterback they drafted since 1987 (Todd Blackledge). The Chiefs need to find a young prospect to groom as a future starter.

Chiefs | Jason Avant on backburner for now    Sat Apr 5, 11:39 PM

Free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles) might still be in the plans for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it is likely they will not re-visit bringing him in until after the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: We could see Avant re-join former Eagles head coach Andy Reid at some point in the future. The Chiefs will likely address the wide receiver position in the draft. This is a talent rich and deep class of wideouts in 2014.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce to be top receiving TE    Sat Apr 5, 11:39 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have TE Anthony Fasano as the starter at tight end, but TE Travis Kelce will be the top pass-receiver at the position, and he is an important piece of the passing game

Footballguys view: Kelce is an interesting name to remember in dynasty leagues. He has the size/speed combination to create mismatches before and after the catch.

Chiefs | Donnie Avery remains starter    Sat Apr 5, 11:37 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Donnie Avery is still listed as a starter, but it remains to be seen whether he will remain as a starter or even make the team. The team has high hopes for WR A.J. Jenkins, who could potentially take away some of Avery's playing time if Jenkins develops. The team also plans to draft at least one receiver, and if he is ready to help right away, Avery might be released.

Chiefs | Out of running for DeSean Jackson    Sat Mar 29, 11:47 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs were among the teams to do their research on free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles), but a source said Saturday, March 29, that the team is out of the running for his services.

Footballguys view: This sounds like a money issue. The Chiefs only have around $4 million left in cap space, and if they signed Jackson it might be for more than that number annually.

Chiefs | May not have cap room for DeSean Jackson    Fri Mar 28, 09:29 PM

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles) but only have $4.5 million in salary cap space at this time. The team may not be able to get into a bidding war with other teams for Jackson because of their cap situation.

Footballguys view: As of right now, the Chiefs only have around $4.5 million in cap space. Jackson's annual salary won't match the $12.7 million he was scheduled to make with the Eagles, but he may make more than what the Chiefs can afford.

Chiefs | Reach out to DeSean Jackson    Fri Mar 28, 03:07 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached out to representatives for free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles).

Footballguys view: This move was anticipated by many because of the connection between Jackson and former Eagles coach (and current Chiefs coach) Andy Reid. They certainly could use a weapon like Jackson to start opposite Dwayne Bowe.

Chiefs | Eric Fisher to LT    Tue Mar 25, 09:35 AM

Kansas City Chiefs OT Eric Fisher will switch from right tackle to left tackle in 2014.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. That was always the course of action for the Chiefs when they selected Fisher number one overall last year. He was inconsistent as a right tackle, but the team has no other choice but to move him to the left side after losing Brandon Albert in free agency.

Chiefs | Won't pursue DeSean Jackson unless released    Sat Mar 22, 06:52 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are unlikely to pursue Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson unless he's released.

Footballguys view: Jackson could be released by the Eagles as he's unlikely to be traded with a $12.7 million cap number in 2014. If added by the Chiefs, Jackson would be reunited with former Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Chiefs | Negotiations ongoing with Alex Smith    Tue Mar 18, 05:07 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs' contract extension negotiations with QB Alex Smith are ongoing. He has one year and $7.5 million left on his current contract, and there remains no timetable for an extension to be reached, according to general manager John Dorsey.

Footballguys view: Smith would probably draw at least 10-12 million a year on the open market, so the Chiefs are going to have come correct on their extension offer.

The Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to meet with free-agent WR Emmanuel Sanders (Steelers) Friday, March 14.

Chiefs | Jeff Linkenbach terms    Thu Mar 13, 10:29 AM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs OT Jeff Linkenbach signed a one-year, $900,000 deal with $250,000 guaranteed. He has $600,000 in incentives.

Chiefs | Sign Jeff Linkenbach     Wed Mar 12, 04:54 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs signed OT Jeff Linkenbach (Colts) Wednesday, March 12. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Well, clearly Linkenbach will be a direct replacement for Branden Albert. Or he's just a warm body. Probably that second one. The Chiefs still have some damage control to do, but a healthy Eric Fisher will be a big part of that anyway, and a bigger one than any free agent.

Chiefs | Jason Avant on radar    Mon Mar 10, 08:24 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are interested in free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles), according to a source.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce on the mend    Sat Mar 1, 06:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) should be ready for offseason training activities.
