Chiefs | Eric Berry a top priority    Sat Feb 6, 11:41 AM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent SS Eric Berry is an important player to the team, and they will do everything they can in order to re-sign him, according to team chairman Clark Hunt.

Footballguys view: Berry beat cancer on his way back to the field in 2015. He's a player we can all cheer for, regardless of team affiliation. It's a wise move for the Chiefs to lock him up to a long-term deal.

Chiefs | Kashif Moore signs    Wed Feb 3, 06:05 PM

Free-agent WR Kashif Moore (Steelers) signed a Reserve/Futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Footballguys view: Moore has bounced around the league during his brief time in the pros. He'll compete for a roster spot on the Chiefs in the spring and summer.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce ready to meet expectations    Sat Jan 30, 11:44 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said he is 'more motivated than ever' after receiving a contract extension.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are certainly hoping that's the case. Kelce has yet to crack the top-5 fantasy tight ends, but he's certainly got the ability to do so. With new contract in hand, we'll see if Kelce can play up to his full potential in 2016.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce lands $46 million    Fri Jan 29, 01:09 PM

Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to five-year, $46 million extension Friday, Jan. 29, with $20.5 million guaranteed. He's the second-highest paid tight end in the league.

Footballguys view: Kelce is now the second-highest paid tight end in the NFL behind only Jimmy Graham (Seahawks). We still have yet to see the best from Kelce in the NFL. He's finished as the 7th- and 8th-best fantasy tight end his first two years in the league, but he's got the ability to at least to a top-5 player someday.

Chiefs | Decision time on Jamaal Charles    Sat Jan 23, 06:53 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was hurt and then the team went on average 135.9 yards - fifth in the league - in 11 regular season games with RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware. He has a $2 million report-to-training camp bonus due in July, and he could be asked to take a pay cut and/or relinquish that bonus to return while earning it back through incentives.

Footballguys view: Charles can still be a superstar in the NFL, and the Chiefs should use him as much as possible in 2016. However, both West and Ware looked great starting this year and they could be worked into the mix a bit this season.

Chiefs | Transition tag for Jaye Howard?    Sat Jan 23, 06:53 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent DT Jaye Howard might be slapped with the transition tag, former agent and salary-cap expert Joel Corry suggested Saturday, Jan. 23.

Footballguys view: This is the smart move for the Chiefs. With the transition tag, Howard would cost $9.3 million in 2016.

Chiefs | Derrick Johnson unlikely to be tagged    Sat Jan 23, 06:52 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Derrick Johnson is likely to fetch around $6 million per season, similar to the deal Cleveland Browns LB Karlos Dansby is playing for. The franchise tag for linebackers is expected to be around $14 million and that is not likely to be a realistic option.

Footballguys view: After the season-ending loss to the Patriots, Johnson expressed his desire to stay with the Chiefs. He may not give them a huge hometown discount, but we could see the two sides coming to an agreement before Johnson hits the open market.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles ahead of schedule?    Fri Jan 22, 10:15 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may be ahead of schedule as he rehabs from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to general manager John Dorsey.

Footballguys view: That would be great news for the Chiefs, Charles and fantasy owners. He'll return as their lead back, but with Spencer Ware playing so well we could see him get a tiny bit of playing time behind Charles as their power change-of-pace back. Charcandrick West did a fine job as the starter, and he may also get a bit of action when Charles needs a breather.

Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Matt Nagy will be co-coordinator on offense with offensive coordinator Brad Childress.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will be back    Thu Jan 21, 03:32 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be back for the start of the regular season this year, according to general manager John Dorsey. 'The guy is an extremely talented player,' Dorsey said. 'I love him to death, love how dirty tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief.' Charles missed all but five games in 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Footballguys view: We'll see if he is able to recapture his form. Coming back from ACL surgery, even at his age, isn't impossible. That said, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware both played well and we could see a committee even if Charles is 100 percent.

Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas still recovering    Thu Jan 21, 03:00 AM

Chiefs | Eric Berry could be franchised    Tue Jan 19, 02:36 AM

Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Berry is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. He had no drop off after returning from Hodgkin lymphoma, and the team could use the franchise tag on him, which is projected around $10 million this year for safeties.

Footballguys view: Berry is one of our favorite players in the league. The Chiefs could use the tag on him as it's really not that expensive considering the position.

Chiefs | Derrick Johnson wants to return    Tue Jan 19, 02:35 AM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Derrick Johnson made it clear Monday, Jan. 18, that he would like to stay in Kansas City. 'I haven't really thought about it much, but you know, I'm a Chief - I'm a Chief at heart,' Johnson said. 'The offseason is here now, but we'll figure all that out. But I'm a Chief.'

Chiefs | Tamba Hali wants to finish in KC    Tue Jan 19, 02:35 AM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Tamba Hali said Monday, Jan. 18, that he is not contemplating whether he wants to return in 2016. 'My mindset is I want to be here, I want to play. Yeah, I do. I'm not contemplating not playing,' the Pro Bowler said. He took a pay cut to stay with the Chiefs in 2015, and after another Pro Bowl season the team has incentive to get a deal done with him.

Footballguys view: With Justin Houston snaring a huge contract from the Chiefs, it may be difficult for them to properly compensate Hali as well. If he makes it to the open market, there will be teams lined up to throw money at him.

Chiefs | Brad Childress moves to OC for Chiefs     Mon Jan 18, 04:56 PM

Kansas City Chiefs offensive assistant Brad Childress is being installed as the offensive coordinator in the wake of former offensive coordinator Doug Pederson departing to coach the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: Childress was Andy Reid's quarterbacks coach and the offensive coordinator of his offense between 1999-2005, so this should mean no changes in the offense and continuity for the team.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West leads the backfield    Sat Jan 16, 08:14 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West carried 17 times for 61 yards and a touchdown and has two catches for 15 yards in a 27-20 loss to the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: West's late touchdown certainly helped fantasy owners who trusted him in this matchup. Clock management problems plagued the Chiefs late in this game, and there were a couple of West runs that would've been better as passes. With Jamaal Charles back next season, West goes to handcuff status for fantasy owners.

Chiefs | Jeremy Maclin quiet in loss    Sat Jan 16, 08:08 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) finished with two catches on three targets for 23 yards in a 27-20 loss to the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: Maclin's high-ankle sprain obviously slowed him down. Without Maclin on the field during key drives in the second half, QB Alex Smith struggled to make plays through the air.

LB Tamba Hali (knee, thumb) and LB Justin Houston (knee) are listed as questionable, while OG Jeff Allen (thumb), OG Zach Fulton (ankle), LB Josh Mauga (ankle) and OT Jah Reid (knee) are listed as probable. Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as probable for the divisional round playoff game against the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs have both WRs Jeremy Maclin (ankle) and Albert Wilson (hamstring) banged up, so we could see a lot of Kelce on Saturday against the Patriots.

Chiefs | Two Chiefs questionable    Fri Jan 15, 11:56 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ankle) and WR Albert Wilson (hamstring) are questionable for the divisional game against the New England Patriots Saturday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs are beat up as they travel to play the Patriots on Saturday. With Ware battling this ankle injury, we could see more from Charcandrick West who is the lead back but not as powerful as Ware. The team really needs Wilson on the field, especially with Jeremy Maclin (ankle) listed as questionable.

Chiefs | Jeremy Maclin questionable    Fri Jan 15, 11:55 AM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) is questionable for the divisional game against the New England Patriots Saturday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: Maclin is likely to tough it out in order to play against the Patriots, but this ankle injury could limit his effectiveness. We'd play Maclin in GPPs, but he's not a good cash game option for DFS players in the Divisional Round.

Chiefs | Limited practice for Spencer Ware    Thu Jan 14, 05:26 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Ware and Charcandrick West will split carries and face a good matchup. Splitting carries make them both a bit risky, but they're worth a look as medium-level RB2s.

Chiefs | Jeremy Maclin misses practice    Thu Jan 14, 05:20 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Jan. 14. He has already been ruled a game-time decision.

Footballguys view: Kansas City plays New England in the early game on Saturday, so you'll know that morning. If he plays, we think he will be a bit limited (and clearly not 100%) so he's no more than a risky low-end WR2.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) will be a game-time decision in the divisional round against the New England Patriots Saturday, Jan. 16, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: At least it's the first game of the weekend. The knee is going to be a factor, and could limit his impact, so we see him as a low-end WR2 if he plays.

Chiefs | Jeremy Maclin does individual work    Thu Jan 14, 02:15 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) did some individual work early in practice Thursday, Jan. 14, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: A good sign for Maclin's ability to play this weekend. The Chiefs will need him against the Patriots, though he is unlikely to be at 100%. We see him as a low end WR2 or so in fantasy this weekend.

Chiefs | Justin Houston plans to play    Thu Jan 14, 12:42 PM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Justin Houston (knee) said he can continue to play with a knee injury that caused him to sit out the final five regular season games, and he said his bulky brace has been a bigger issue. Houston left the wild-card game for a stretch of plays because of the brace, and he said it's the first time he's played with a brace on his knee. He's confident he'll play in the divisional round against the New England Patriots Saturday, Jan. 16. Houston had three tackles in the wild-card win over the Houston Texans.

Chiefs | Full practice for Travis Kelce    Wed Jan 13, 06:15 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin) practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: If you play DFS and can't pay up to get Rob Gronkowski, then Kelce makes for a fine option. With Jeremy Maclin banged up, we could see Kelce have an even larger role against the Patriots.
