Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 12 of his 17 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints Friday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger had sat for the first two preseason games. He hooked up with Antonio Brown for a long score and also fed now starting TE Jesse James in the short passing game, including a touchdown.

Steelers | Cameron Heyward injures ankle    Fri Aug 26, 09:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers DE Cameron Heyward (ankle) was carted off with a bag of ice on his right ankle against the New Orleans Saints Friday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: Heyward is a key player on a Steelers defense with some issues in the secondary. If they are without his services for the season opener against Washington, it could help turn the game into a shootout.

Steelers | Marcus Gilbert restructures    Fri Aug 26, 10:35 AM

Steelers | Slow rehab for Ladarius Green    Thu Aug 25, 06:17 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) still hopes to be ready for Week 1, but acknowledged that the rehabilitation process is 'very slow.'

Footballguys view: Green has to be labeled as an injury prone player. He's always been banged up...or at least it seems like it. Fantasy owners who considered him a sleeper after he signed with the Steelers earlier this year are now looking for 'lottery ticket' TEs elsewhere.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell will play Friday    Thu Aug 25, 12:42 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) will play in the preseason game against the New Orleans Saints Friday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys view: Bell saw his suspension cut down to three games, but that's still three you have to get past without him. We think DeAngelo Williams will be a fine replacement and he should put up RB1 numbers while Bell is out. Even with the suspension, Bell's ADP is still RB6 and No. 13 off the board overall.

Steelers | Artie Burns to miss another game    Thu Aug 25, 12:41 PM

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expects to play    Mon Aug 22, 06:56 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he plans to play in the preseason game against the New Orleans Saints Friday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: It's the dress rehearsal for the regular season! Roethlisberger should fill the air with footballs in 2016, and we love him as a QB1 you can get later in your draft.

Steelers | Ladarius Green calls headaches a rumor    Sat Aug 20, 04:57 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) said he has no idea where rumors of his headaches spawned.

Footballguys view: We still aren't spending a pick before the very late rounds on Green until he gets activated from the PUP. Right now it seems like the Steelers are going forward with Jesse James as their starter.

Steelers | Eli Rogers has solid outing    Fri Aug 19, 04:09 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers caught four passes for 39 yards in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 18. He has been performing well as a slot receiver and has shown a quick first step that allows him navigate the middle of the field.

Footballguys view: Rogers could be a starter in this offense as the third receiver with Markus Wheaton on the outside with Sammie Coates having troubles in the preseason. He's worth a look in deep leagues, should be added in deep PPR dynasty and will definitely be on our waiver wire speed dial list because of the quality of this pass offense.

Steelers | Landry Jones expected to keep job    Fri Aug 19, 03:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones is expected to keep the No. 2 quarterback job because he had a solid training camp and there are not many options available in free agency. Jones has thrown for 166 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions in two preseason games.

Footballguys view: Jones kept the offense's pulse going last year - barely - and even fed Antonio Brown's 6-124 line in his one full start - representing Brown's best game without Ben Roethlisberger last year. It's too late in the game for the Steelers to upgrade from Jones now that Bruce Gradkowski is sidelined with a torn hamstring.

  Steelers | Le'Veon Bell's suspension reduced    Fri Aug 19, 03:04 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's suspension has been reduced to three games, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bell becomes more viable in the first round now with one fewer game to absorb. DeAngelo Williams' value takes an even bigger hit than what Bell gained, with 1/4 of his guaranteed starts vanishing. Perhaps it makes pulling off the Bell/Williams combination easier. It's hard to understand why Bell is getting his suspension reduced when the substance abuse policies are so cut and dry, but the Steelers and Bell drafters have to be happy about it.

Steelers | Landry Jones tosses four picks    Thu Aug 18, 10:06 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones completed 12 of his 20 passes for 111 yards and four interceptions in a 17-0 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Aug. 18.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. The Steelers are toast if QB Ben Roethlisberger misses any time.

Steelers | Jesse James in line to start    Thu Aug 18, 04:55 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James would start if TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) is not ready by the start of the season. James has developed a nice red-zone rapport with QB Ben Roethlisberger, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Right now we have him as a TE3, but a good couple of showings in preseason games could be the ticket to a higher output and ranking. Keep an eye on him this weekend and next week in the Game 3 dress rehearsal for the regular season.

Steelers | IR an option for Ladarius Green    Thu Aug 18, 04:48 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) could begin the regular season on the Reserve/Injured list, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: Green has forever been plagued by injury and it seems that beat keeps going on. It's time to put away the "upside" label, as well as your plans to draft him. Jesse James is worth watching and has looked good working with Ben Roethlisberger.

Steelers | James Harrison to talk with NFL    Thu Aug 18, 03:53 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison has agreed to talk with the NFL regarding the allegations that they received performance-enhancing drugs, according to sources. Harrison is scheduled to meet with the NFL Monday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: Harrison was the leader of the players holding out against meeting with the league, so this is big for the NFL. It takes place after the deadline, but the NFL will just be happy to have Harrison in to answer some questions.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell hearing update    Tue Aug 16, 01:26 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell says no hearing date has been scheduled for the appeal of his four-game suspension.

Footballguys view: Bell seems to think that he's not going to get suspended, but we're not as optimistic. Missing a drug test is the equivalent of having a hot test. Bell reportedly missed several tests, and it will be difficult for him to avoid discipline. The superstar RB has a current ADP of RB6 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison is among four players who will be suspended by Thursday, Aug. 25, if they do not comply with the National Football League's probe into performance-enhancing drugs. The suspension would be for conduct detrimental, and separate from any possible discipline the player would face under the league's drug policies.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton on the field Monday    Mon Aug 15, 06:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (undisclosed) was able to participate in practice Monday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: He's in the mix to start opposite superstar WR Antonio Brown. The Steelers should have one of the best passing attacks in the league, and Wheaton could perform like a WR5 with upside for fantasy owners. Wheaton has missed most of training camp because of a soft tissue injury.

Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski has hamstring tear    Mon Aug 15, 03:47 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (hamstring) has a sizable hamstring tear, according to a source. He may be out for an extended period of time. QBs Landry Jones and Dustin Vaughan are the primary backups behind QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Steelers here. Gradkowski is a seasoned veteran who gives the team an experienced backup behind Roethlisberger. The team wouldn't go off the rails if Gradkowski had to step in for a game or two. We don't feel as confident in the Steelers offense if Jones or Vaughan is the starting QB due to an injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list solely because of an ankle injury, head coach Mike Tomlin said Friday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: The ankle injury is one thing, but Green is being hampered by severe headaches which could be career threatening. Monitor his situation closely.

Steelers | Sammie Coates can't hold on to ball    Fri Aug 12, 11:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates had three catches for 18 yards but dropped a pass and fumbled twice in a 30-17 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions Friday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Coates has butterfingers...and he has for quite some time. He's incredibly gifted athletically, but Coates has a problem with concentration, drops and now fumbles. The second-year pro is trying to win the no.2 WR job opposite Antonio Brown. He's in the mix for the no.3 job if someone like Markus Wheaton ends up as their WR2.

Steelers | Ladarius Green could retire    Thu Aug 11, 04:09 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) may be considering retirement if his recurring headaches persist, according to a source. There is also speculation that the Steelers could cut Green.

Footballguys view: We loved Green's potential, but injuries were always an issue. This leaves Jesse James and Xavier Grimble as potential replacements at the position with James getting our nod since he is far more versatile than Grimble. James could prove himself to have some low-end TE2 value.

Steelers | Ladarius Green dealing with headaches    Thu Aug 11, 02:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (head, ankle) is not participating in practice because of recurring headaches and not because of his surgically repaired ankle, according to a member of the organization. Green suffered two concussions in two weeks last September.

Footballguys view: We have no idea when he'll show up, if ever. That means he continues dropping down the rankings and right now we can't recommend him. Our own Sigmund Bloom has pointed to Jesse James and Xavier Grimble as potential targets. James is more likely as he is more versatile than Grimble and he could prove himself to be a starter, with perhaps low-end TE2 value.

Steelers | Ladarius Green still unable to go    Wed Aug 10, 10:04 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list nearly two weeks after the open of training camp. He is still recovering from ankle surgery in January and has yet to practice with his new team. He will miss at least the first preseason game Friday, Aug. 12, against the Detroit Lions. Expectations are so low at this point, QB Ben Roethlisberger did not mention Green when talking about the team's tight end situation Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Green's biggest problem over the years has been his inability to stay healthy. Four years into his career, Green has been healthy for exactly one full season which, along with Antonio Gates' preternatural ability to play like a man half his age, kept him from reaching his potential in San Diego. While we think he has the ability to be a TE1 in this offense, it's beginning to look like another lost season for Green and we wouldn't take him as more than a low-end TE2 until he can get on the field and prove himself.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, RB DeAngelo Williams, WR Antonio Brown and C Maurkice Pouncey will not play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Friday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: There's no reason for the Steelers risk their core players health outside of a series or two next week and a half in the third preseason game.
