Steelers | Le'Veon Bell not running yet    Sat Feb 6, 11:57 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he has not been cleared to run at this time. Bell suffered a torn medial collateral ligament during the season.

Footballguys view: No hurries, no worries here. Bell is going to be eased back into action, and we think he'll be out--or limited--during OTAs and minicamp. The plan is to have him ready by training camp, and without setback he could be ready at that time.

Steelers | Sign two wide receivers    Thu Feb 4, 05:54 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Issac Blakeney and Tobais Palmer signed Reserve/Futures contracts Thursday, Feb. 4.

Footballguys view: Blakeney is a big receiver (6'4" 223 pounds) from Duke who played defensive end, safety and tight end before setting in at wideout. He's explosive and can play above the rim, but he lacks straight-line speed. Palmer is a smaller receiver with the speed and quickness to be a return man.

Steelers | Alejandro Villanueva could start in 2016    Wed Feb 3, 08:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers OT Alejandro Villanueva could be the team's starting left tackle next season if they decide not to re-sign impending free-agent OT Kelvin Beachum this offseason.

Footballguys view: Villanueva started the final 11 games as Beachum was injured, and the former combat vet did a good job. Beachum is insistent that he's a tackle and not a guard, and he'll want to be compensated like one. If the Steelers can get him on a one-year, prove-it deal then perhaps Beachum could stay.

Steelers | Sign Levi Norwood    Wed Feb 3, 07:56 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed WR Levi Norwood (Bears) to a Reserve/Futures contract Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Baylor in 2015, Norwood is an explosive wide receiver who can also be effectively used as a return man. He does a good job of coming back to the ball, and Norwood showed the ability in college to be a QB's best friend and reliable relief-valve receiver.

Steelers | Mike Adams remains under team control    Wed Feb 3, 01:03 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers OT Mike X. Adams remains under team control for at least one more season due to an obscure stipulation in the collective bargaining agreement. He was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list before training camp and never activated, so his 2015 season will be tolled.

Steelers | Brandon Boykin could return    Mon Feb 1, 07:48 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent CB Brandon Boykin could re-sign with the Steelers if they offered the right deal.

Footballguys view: Boykin would have to agree to a good price in order to stay with the Steelers. The team gave up a fifth-round pick (2016) in order to snag Boykin away from the Eagles, and he seemed to get more comfortable with the team as the season went on. The cornerback market is going to be overflowing with talent, so the Steelers will have plenty of options if Boykin doesn't stay.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has years left    Fri Jan 29, 05:45 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has not shown any decline in his play and is expected to play several more seasons, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team is not looking to start grooming their next starting quarterback at this point.

Footballguys view: We're a year or two away from any sort of "quarterback of the future" being added by the Steelers...maybe even longer. So long as Roethlisberger is healthy-ish, he can be a quality starter. The Steelers can go far with Roethlisberger, and they were only stunted this year in the postseason due to injuries (Antonio Brown, DeAngelo Williams to name two) at other positions.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant has room to grow    Fri Jan 29, 04:42 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has the chance to become a better player but needs to avoid any off-field problems this offseason, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team hopes Bryant's four-game suspension to start the 2015 season will have an impact on him.

Footballguys view: Bryant has amazing natural talent, but he needs to stay out of trouble off the field and be more consistent on the field. We'll see if he can continue to flourish and grow as a player in 2016. He ranked as the 32nd-highest fantasy WR this year in standard scoring, but Bryant has the ability to be a top-15 player if he plays up to his potential.

Steelers | Heath Miller back in 2016?    Thu Jan 28, 11:35 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller likely will be back with the team next year, despite carrying a cap hit of $7.2 million, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Footballguys view: Bouchette is the best Steelers beat writer there is, and if he says Miller will return with that big cap number we believe it. Miller is not the same player he used to be, but he's a favorite target of QB Ben Roethlisberger and may retire a Steeler. Watch to see if Jesse James gets worked more into the mix with Miller aging and slowing down.

Steelers | No big offer for Le'Veon Bell?    Thu Jan 28, 10:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell won't receive a 'break-bank offer' this offseason, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are playing a dangerous game, but it's one that could pay off for them. They are hardly ever overpaying for talent, and especially at the running back position. Bell is a superstar when healthy, but staying healthy has been a problem for the young back. Add in his one-game suspension in 2015 for a positive marijuana test, and you can see why the Steelers won't break the bank for the young stud.

Steelers | President wants Le'Veon Bell to stay    Thu Jan 28, 04:40 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is entering a contract year, and team president Art Rooney said he would like Bell's football future to be in Pittsburgh.

Footballguys view: Naturally the Steelers want Bell to remain in Pittsburgh. While running back has largely become a replaceable position, Bell is that rare back who is nearly impossible to replace. We expect him to get back to 100 percent and be one of the better backs in the NFL next year.

Steelers | Shaun Suisham may not return    Sun Jan 24, 05:00 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Shaun Suisham may be on the roster bubble because he is scheduled to count $3.5 million against the cap in 2016, while PK Chris Boswell is scheduled to count only $565,000 against the cap.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger happy with play    Fri Jan 22, 08:49 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he feels like he is playing some of his best football and will work on keeping his arm strong this offseason. Roethlisberger has completed 67.1% and 68.0% of his passes over the last two seasons, which are the best two seasons of his career.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners were happy with Roethlisberger, but mostly when he was healthy and at home. He finished as the 21st-ranked fantasy quarterback this year, but he only played in 12 games.

Steelers | Mike Mitchell will have surgery    Wed Jan 20, 07:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers FS Mike Mitchell (shoulder) will undergo shoulder surgery this offseason and will be sidelined for several months, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys view: The shoulder surgery does put his return for the start of training camp in question. We'll see if he can be ready by the time August rolls around.

Steelers | Sign Daryl Richardson    Wed Jan 20, 05:51 PM

Free-agent RB Daryl Richardson (Browns) was signed to a Reserve/Futures contract by the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Footballguys view: It's an interesting move for the Steelers, and dynasty owners in super super deep leagues may still be holding onto the speedy back. Richardson is incredibly fast, but he's not strong between the tackles.

Steelers | Big Ben talks Martavis Bryant    Tue Jan 19, 06:14 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant needs to take the next step to become the best in the world this offseason, according to QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Footballguys view: Bryant has amazing upside, but he needs to be more consistent. Fantasy owners should consider Bryant a WR2 with WR1 upside in certain matchups. In only 11 games this year, Bryant ranked as the 32nd fantasy receiver.

Steelers | Big Ben won't need surgery    Tue Jan 19, 02:15 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he will not need surgery on his right shoulder in the offseason. He will take some time off in the next few weeks to let the injury heal. 'From what I've been told by Doc (James) Bradley, no surgery,' Roethlisberger said. 'The ligaments will scar up and heal on their own. The only thing he could foresee possibly down the road is cleaning out the arthritis and scars. I don't foresee any surgeries anytime soon.' He also said he took a painkilling shot Friday, Jan. 15, and probably wouldn't have gotten through the divisional round without it.

Footballguys view: Great news for Roethlisberger here. He'll have the offseason to rest and get ready for the 2016 season. If the Steelers are back at full strength, then they'll go far...and pay off big time for fantasy owners.

Steelers | Sign four to Reserve/Futures deals    Mon Jan 18, 05:37 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Xavier Grimble, RB Rajion Neal, WR Shakim Phillips and RB Abou Toure were signed to Reserve/Futures deals Monday, Jan. 18.

Footballguys view: Grimble has size and athleticism, but has never lived up to his potential. Heath Miller is in the December of his career, so we'll be watching Grimble to see if he pushes Jesse James and Rob Blanchflower for future playing time.

Steelers | No scores for Ben Roethlisberger    Sun Jan 17, 08:20 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24 of 37 passes for 339 yards in a 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have only allowed two 300-yard passers this season...and both times it was Roethlisberger who reached that mark. Without Antonio Brown, Roethlisberger wasn't quite as effective as a passer.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant big in loss    Sun Jan 17, 08:15 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant had nine catches for 154 yards and two carries for 40 yards in a 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Bryant is big and fast...and the Steelers went to him often against an aggressive Broncos defense. Dynasty owners love Bryant's upside, and next year he should be a solid WR2 with WR1 potential for fantasy owners in all formats.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to start    Sat Jan 16, 01:27 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) will travel with the team and is expected to start against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger will start the game, but will he finish it? The Broncos are the best in the league when it comes to getting after the passer. One big hit on Roethlisberger might knock him out. The Steelers had better do all they can to protect their star quarterback.

SS Will Allen (non-injury), SS Robert Golden (shoulder), LB James Harrison (non-injury), DE Cameron Heyward (back), LB Ryan Shazier (knee), TE Matt Spaeth (non-injury) and LB Vince Williams (hamstring) fully participated in practice and are listed as probable.

Steelers | Big Ben puts in full practice    Fri Jan 15, 01:07 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) put in a full practice Friday, Jan. 15, but is listed as questionable for the divisional round game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: One good shot on Roethlisberger could mean that it's Landry Jones time. The Broncos are the best team in the league when it comes to getting to the quarterback, and Roethlisberger may not be able to make it all the way through this game due to this shoulder problem.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger questionable    Fri Jan 15, 12:47 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is listed as questionable for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger is the toughest quarterback in the league, and there's no doubt that he's going to play. If he makes it through the entire game is another question.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams ruled out    Fri Jan 15, 12:44 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) has been ruled out for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Another starter down for the Steelers in a game that is looking tougher by the news blurb. The Steelers are already going to play without superstar WR Antonio Brown. Now, without Williams too, they'll find it tough to move the ball against a ferocious Broncos defense.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger does some throwing    Fri Jan 15, 12:38 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he threw briefly during practice Friday, Jan. 15.

Footballguys view: We can see Roethlisberger starting on Sunday but mostly throwing short passes due to his shoulder injury. We'll see if the Broncos defense can disrupt his passing lanes and make it a long game for the Steelers in the Divisional Round.

Steelers | Antonio Brown could return next week    Fri Jan 15, 12:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) said he plans to play in the AFC Championship game if the Steelers advance past the Denver Broncos in the divisional round this weekend.

Footballguys view: Without Brown, it will be difficult for the Steelers to get by the Broncos. If they do, then we feel confident that Brown could return for the AFC Championship.

Steelers | Antonio Brown ruled out    Fri Jan 15, 09:37 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) was ruled out for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: A huge blow for the Steelers offense here. Brown had a great game against the Broncos in Week 15 when he hauled in 16 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Without Brown, the Steelers will turn to Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton to do more. Tight end Heath Miller will also play a larger role this week.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant headed for big game?    Thu Jan 14, 09:53 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant faces the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17, and he had 10 catches for 87 yards against the Broncos in Week 15 of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Right now it appears as if Antonio Brown will be out due to a concussion, which puts Martavis Bryant in line for a lot of targets. It also puts him in line for a lot of attention from the Denver secondary, which is no small problem. We're also not sure how much strength Ben Roethlisberger's arm has due to those torn tendons. We like Bryant a bunch despite this and feel he is a worthy start this weekend, if with less upside due to some mitigating circumstances.

Steelers | No practice for DeAngelo Williams    Thu Jan 14, 05:21 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: He's not expected to play this weekend, and you can expect Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman to split carries which will limit each of their impacts. Pick your poison, but they are on the lower end of starters this weekend and will be risky low-end RB2 plays at most in this game.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger limited    Thu Jan 14, 05:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) put in a limited practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

Steelers | Antonio Brown not cleared, sits again    Thu Jan 14, 04:26 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) has still not been cleared to practice and remained sidelined Thursday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: If he does play, we like him a little less than usual because he has a banged up quarterback who might not be able to go deep. Still, not being cleared by this point is a concern. We'll keep you updated here.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin talks Antonio Brown     Thu Jan 14, 04:19 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) is still in the NFL's concussion protocol despite saying he's good to go for this weekend's playoff game against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Mike Tomlin won't take any risks with Brown in the protocol, though. "We respect the protocol," Tomlin said. "We are going to adhere to it and follow it to the letter. He is going to participate fully in it. We will see where it leads us. Obviously, we are hopeful, but we are always hopeful. We are going to do what is right when it's said and done. "

Footballguys view: If he plays we like his potential, though Ben Roethlisberger's bad arm is a concern, but it looks very much like he will miss Sunday's game. Stay tuned.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger 4-0 in divisional round    Thu Jan 14, 04:11 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is undefeated in the divisional round of the playoffs at 4-0 in his career. He'll look to make that record 5-0 against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Of course he probably wasn't dealing with a bum throwing arm. The Steelers might win--and we're not feeling optimistic about that--but it is unlikely to be because of Roethlisberger, so stay away from him in fantasy.

Steelers | Big Ben not good on the road    Wed Jan 13, 08:05 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had just five of his 21 touchdowns on the road this year, and three of those came against the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: Does the Browns game count? The splits for Roethlisberger road vs. home are startling. We'll see if he can turn things around (perhaps without WR Antonio Brown) in the Divisional Round against the Broncos.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams absent Wednesday    Wed Jan 13, 05:31 PM

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger misses practice    Wed Jan 13, 05:24 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13, and he said he did not throw at all. He has yet to throw since a wild-card victory over the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering an AC joint sprain. Roethlisberger said he's unsure when he'll throw again, and he'll continue to receive treatment.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger thinks it'll be 'tough' for him to play in the Divisional Round against the Broncos if he can't throw downfield. An AC joint sprain hinders the ability to throw with velocity. QB Landry Jones would make his third start of his career if Roethlisberger can't play.
