Steelers | Le'Veon Bell to miss four games?    Mon Mar 2, 04:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell could be suspended up to four games, according to the NFL's new substance-abuse policy. A two-game suspension is standard for a DUI resulting from the use of alcohol. However, Bell's DUI came from marijuana use, so he could be suspended for a longer period of time.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to monitor this situation closely as Bell is a target to be one of the top players off the board in everybody's fantasy drafts in 2015. We'll know more about the NFL's ruling well before you'll have to worry about where to pick him.

Steelers | Lance Moore let go    Mon Mar 2, 04:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Lance Moore was released Monday, March 2.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Moore wasn't used that much in Pittsburgh. He only ran 180 routes last year, was targeted a mere 27 times and finished the season with only 14 catches, 198 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Moore isn't the same player he used to be, but it wouldn't shock us to see the Saints bring him back.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey will not return    Sun Mar 1, 10:52 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent WR Darrius Heyward-Bey will not re-sign with the Steelers this offseason.

Footballguys view: We're shocked Heyward-Bey has made it this far in the NFL. He struggles to catch, and that's kind of an important skill set when you're a RECEIVER. Heyward-Bey is a good run-blocker, but that's only worth so much. He shouldn't be expecting a ton of phone calls on the open market.

Steelers | Jason Worilds to hit market    Thu Feb 26, 12:16 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers do not plan to use the transition tag on impending free-agent LB Jason Worilds, allowing him to hit free agency March 10, a league source said Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Footballguys view: Worilds has had 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons, the most by any Steelers player during that time. The Steelers are in desperate need of clearing up cap space. At this time, they are about $7 million over the cap. The new league year begins on March 10th, and they'll need to get their cap situation lined up before then.

Steelers | James Harrison wants to play    Mon Feb 23, 03:07 AM

Free-agent OLB James Harrison (Steelers) has decided he wants to play football in 2015. Harrison would prefer to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers if at all possible.

Footballguys view: Harrison could stick around in Pittsburgh, or he could follow former Steelers DC Dick LeBeau to the Titans.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to get big contract?    Mon Feb 16, 03:37 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger could earn around $20 million per year once his new contract is finalized, according to former NFL general manager Mark Dominik. This would make Roethlisberger one of the top-five highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

Footballguys view: The Steelers want Roethlisberger to stay with them for the rest of his career. We are fairly certain the two sides will be able to come to a big-money long-term agreement.

Steelers | PIT planning on no Le'Veon Bell     Thu Feb 12, 06:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell could very well be suspended for at least the first two games of the 2015 season. General manager Kevin Colbert said the team is planning on being without Bell at some point. Bell was arrested in August of 2014 for marijuana charges and driving under the influence.

Footballguys view: It's wise for the Steelers to take this approach. We feel they'll add another RB to the mix in the draft or free agency. Then we'll see the backfield shake out behind Bell in training camp. Even with the likely suspension, Bell is still a top-5 pick in most every fantasy draft.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell expected to be suspended    Wed Feb 11, 05:58 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is expected to be suspended for the first two games of the 2015 season as a result of his August arrest on marijuana charges, according to sources. Bell will spend 15 months on probation as part of the first-offender's program and will have his driver's license suspended for 60 days. RBs Josh D. Harris and Ben Tate took over when Bell missed the team's playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Footballguys view: The Steelers will likely look to the draft or free agency to improve their backup plans behind Bell. We'll see a potential starter while Bell is out rise to the top during training camp.

Steelers | Want to re-sign Jason Worilds    Wed Feb 11, 02:44 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers OLB Jason Worilds, who will hit free agency this offseason, will be targeted for re-signing by the team.

Footballguys view: Worilds may have the transition tag applied to him once again, as it was in 2014. This may be the best move for the cap-strapped Steelers. The transition tag would cost the Steelers around $11 million this year. It's a less expensive move than putting the franchise tag on a player. With the transition tag, the Steelers would have the first right of refusal. However, there would be no compensation if they lose Worilds to a team that signs him to an offer sheet.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger contract talks begin    Tue Feb 10, 02:16 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger's contract talks regarding an extension have begun on a preliminary basis, according to general manager Kevin Colbert.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger is entering the final year of his contract in 2015. He has a cap number this year of around $18.4 million. The Steelers are likely to extend him and pay him among the top-5 quarterbacks in the NFL. We can't imagine Roethlisberger playing for another team, and the Steelers will likely wrap him up for the rest of his career.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell facing suspension?    Fri Feb 6, 12:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell will spend 15 months on probation in a first-offender's program after his arrest last August for marijuana. He will also have his driver's license suspended for 60 days.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to stay dialed into this situation as Bell is an option for the number-one pick in most every fantasy draft in 2015. Bell can petition the court to have his arrest record expunged if he finishes the probation program without incident. Defense attorney Robert Del Greco Jr. said that Bell will likely face up to a two-game NFL suspension.

Steelers | Brett Keisel could be back for 2015    Thu Feb 5, 01:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers DE Brett Keisel (triceps) told the media Wednesday, Feb. 4, he'd rehab his injury and see how things turn out in regards to playing in 2015.

Footballguys view: But for an injury to Le'Veon Bell, the Steelers could have been on their way to the AFC Championship and perhaps the Super Bowl. Keisel is on his last legs but will probably be around for another season. Keisel has a $1.75 million cap hit in 2015.

Steelers | Sign Ian Wild    Fri Jan 30, 04:46 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed FS Ian Wild Friday, Jan. 30. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Steelers have signed yet another player from the CFL. Wild played inside linebacker and safety for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers up in Canada, and he registered 73 tackles in 2014. In addition to starring on defense, Wild can be counted on as a long-snapper as well. Coming out of Mercyhurst University, Wild was originally signed as an undrafted free agent (2012) by the Buffalo Bills.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell able to work out    Thu Jan 29, 12:56 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) has been able to work out despite ending the season with an injured knee. 'The knee is close to 100%,' Bell said. 'I'm probably about 85-90%, been able to run on it a little bit. So I'm getting back to work out a little.'

Footballguys view: Bell had been one of the best running back in the NFL before is entering. You should be a round draft pick in fantasy draft next year if he stays on pace with his rehab.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau has parted ways with the team, according to the Urbana Daily Citizen in Ohio.

Footballguys view: It's sad to see the end of an era in Pittsburgh. LeBeau is already in the Hall of Fame because of his playing career. We think he should also go in as a defensive coordinator. His zone-blitz schemes have been revolutionary and shaped the game incredibly. He may not be done coaching, although there were rumors about LeBeau retiring after the 2014 season. Stay tuned.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant ready for next step    Fri Jan 9, 01:33 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant, who had 26 catches, 549 yards and eight touchdowns in his rookie season, is eager to improve upon his numbers in his sophomore season in 2015.

Footballguys view: We're excited about Bryant's upside. He has the size to be a red-zone threat when the Steelers are near pay dirt. His speed also makes him a strong target on deep passes. Bryant plans to work out with WR Antonio Brown this offseason in Miami. His eight touchdowns put him tied for fourth in the league among rookies.

Steelers | Jordan Dangerfield, L'Damian Washington signed    Thu Jan 8, 04:17 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed S Jordan Dangerfield and WR L'Damian Washington to Reserve/Futures contracts Thursday, Jan. 8.

Footballguys view: We're watching Washington is super deep dynasty leagues. His game is about speed, speed and more speed. He has good size at 6'4" 195 pounds, but his 9-inch hands give him problems with drops. Originally a 2014 college free agent picked up by the Dallas Cowboys after the draft, Washington has bounced around to four different teams in his rookie year.

Steelers | Todd Haley signs extension    Thu Jan 8, 11:08 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley recently signed a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2016 season.

Footballguys view: Haley has been a bit hit or miss as a coordinator, but this year the Steelers seemed to overachieve (mostly due to Le'Veon Bell) so that buys him a little more time to work out the kinks. More offensive line help and a little depth in the backfield would go a long way towards continuing the improvement.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's (knee) injury isn't expected to affect his offseason work. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Bell could have played this weekend if the team had advanced.

Footballguys view: Bell suffered a hyperextended knee in Week 17 against the Bengals, and he could have played this weekend had the Steelers won in the Wild Card round. You're looking at the number one pick in multiple fantasy leagues next season.

Footballguys view: We just can't imagine Roethlisberger playing for another team. President Art Rooney II wants Roethlisberger to retire with the team. Roethlisberger will make $11.6 million next year with a cap hit of $18.395 million, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger had whiplash    Sun Jan 4, 10:55 AM

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (neck) said he left the wild-card playoff game briefly Saturday, Jan. 3, due to whiplash. 'Yeah, just like a little whiplash on my neck, I was just kinda laying down there and wanted to make sure I could feel everything. It was more just whiplash on my neck. Right now it feels OK, I'll probably be sore tomorrow,' Roethlisberger said after the game.

Footballguys view: Some assumed the Steelers circumvented the concussion protocol to get Roethlisberger back into the game after missing two plays. That's not the case, as they examined him for a neck injury and determined he could return. Upon his return, Roethlisberger threw an interception that ended the game.

Steelers | Josh Harris leads backfield    Sun Jan 4, 12:01 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Josh Harris had a team-high nine carries for 25 yards in the team's wild-card playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Jan. 3.

Footballguys view: The Steelers didn't have much of a commitment to running the football against the Ravens. They started the game featuring the newly acquired Ben Tate, but after an early fumble they went away from him. The absence of Le'Veon Bell certainly crushed the Steelers on Saturday.

Steelers | Josh Harris with upside    Sat Jan 3, 07:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Josh D. Harris is expected to play often Saturday, Jan. 3, with RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) inactive for the wild-card playoff game.
