Peterson is simply one of the top cover corners in the game and an equally exciting playmaker. He has 12 interceptions in his 3 years in the league but he has seen his tackle numbers go down each year as teams avoid him more in the passing game. That will be harder to do in 2014 with the addition of Antonio Cromartie on the other side. Peterson may have extra value in leagues that offer points for special teams return yards. (May 24)

Cardinals | Patrick Peterson announces five-year extension (Tue Jul 29, 11:56 PM) - Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson announced via Twitter Tuesday, July 29, that he has signed a five-year contract extension worth $70 million with $48 million guaranteed.

Our View: Peterson gets more money than Richard Sherman ($40 million) did from the Seahawks earlier this year. His average annual salary is just a bit less than Sherman's, and Peterson is signed for a longer deal. It's a big move for the Cardinals, but Peterson is certainly worth every penny.

Cardinals | Patrick Peterson close to new deal (Tue Jul 29, 04:49 PM) - Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson is reportedly close to a deal on a new contract.

Our View: Reports came out in May that the two sides were discussing a deal worth more than $60 million. Peterson is one of the best corners in the game today, and he might get more guaranteed money ($40 million) than Richard Sherman did from the Seahawks.

Cardinals | Patrick Peterson will not be used on offense (Mon Jul 28, 04:00 AM) - Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson will be used strictly on defense this season and will not see time in any offensive situations. The Cardinals have excess capacity at wide receiver this year. Coach Bruce Arians plans on relieving Peterson of his punt return duties.

Our View: The last item is especially important for IDP leagues that also score return yardage. Peterson is on the verge of "shutdown corner" status if more of his talent translates to the field on defense, and this move is reflective of the priority to focus him on his duties there.
