Cowboys | DeMarco Murray getting support from QB    Fri Jan 23, 06:29 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is getting support from QB Tony Romo to stay with the team long term. Romo said he is consistently talking to owner Jerry Jones about bringing him back in 2015.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have to bring Murray back, right? We can't imagine him signing with another team after the season he had with Dallas in 2014. He's the engine to the offense, and it would be incredibly difficult to replace him. Murray is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but we feel the Cowboys will find a way to bring him back.

Cowboys | Tony Romo wants Dez Bryant to return    Fri Jan 23, 05:48 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is getting support from QB Tony Romo to stay with the team long term. Romo said he is consistently talking to owner Jerry Jones about bringing him back in 2015.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys could place the franchise tag on Bryant this offseason. The tag comes with a one-year fully guaranteed salary of around $12.7 million. They would prevent any other team from negotiating with him, and this would allow them a longer time (July 15th deadline) to sign him to a long-term deal.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray was in pass protection on 52 more plays than any other running back on the roster in 2014.

Footballguys view: Murray is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2015. He's a do-everything back who can dominate on Sundays. We'll see if the Cowboys can secure him with a new long-term contract in 2015.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray could be cap casualty     Thu Jan 15, 10:15 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray will be tough sign to a long-term extension if WR Dez Bryant is also signed, team owner Jerry Jones said Thursday, Jan. 15. Jones called the prospect of signing both players 'possible' but not 'financially reasonable.'

Footballguys view: Murray could hit the open market, which could net him some serious coin. He's coming off the best year of his career after rushing for 1,845 yards (and 13 rushing touchdowns) in 2014. Running backs don't break the bank on the open market, but Murray could certainly sign the largest contract of any back available in free agency this year.

Cowboys | Tony Romo won't be asked to restructure    Thu Jan 15, 08:23 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will not be asked to restructure his contract in the offseason unless it would allow the Cowboys to sign a player that could put the team in the Super Bowl, team owner Jerry Jones said Thursday, Jan. 15.

Footballguys view: What if that player is running back DeMarco Murray? The Cowboys may not be able to afford Murray as he's set to hit free agency at the start of the new league year. We have a feeling that Romo would move some money around to keep Murray around. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dallas won't let Dez Bryant walk    Tue Jan 13, 09:17 PM

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent WR Dez Bryant is 'not going anywhere,' according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Owner Jerry Jones recently said the team will use the franchise tag, if necessary, to keep Bryant.

Footballguys view: In addition to being one of the best five wide receivers in the league, Bryant is the fiery leader of the team. He'll be a top 15 pick fantasy drafts again this year.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray, team disagree on value    Tue Jan 13, 09:16 PM

The Dallas Cowboys and impending free-agent RB DeMarco Murray and disagree on his value. The team offered him a four-year deal worth slightly more than $16 million. He might test the open market, or the team could slap him with the franchise tag.

Footballguys view: At this moment, Murray looks more likely to be elsewhere next season than on the Dallas Cowboys. Sixteen million is more along the lines of what Murray should garner in guaranteed money than full contract value. Chances are the starting RB for the Cowboys in 2015 is not on the roster right now. Adrian Peterson has been mentioned in connection with Cowboys a lot since it became clear he might not be with the Vikings next year.

Cowboys | Mister Alexander, Ryan Williams signed    Tue Jan 13, 06:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Mister Alexander and RB Ryan Williams signed Reserve/Futures contracts Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: We're still not ready to give up on Williams in super deep dynasty leagues. He was an amazingly talented runner during his time in college at Virginia Tech. If you've got the roster space in a deeper league, go ahead and hold on Williams if you can.

Cowboys | Jim Schwartz could be on team's radar    Tue Jan 13, 12:57 PM

Free-agent defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz (Bills) could be on the Dallas Cowboys radar for the team's defensive coordinator position if they are not able to retain current defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

Footballguys view: That would be a great move for the Cowboys. Schwartz had a fantastic defense in Buffalo, and he'll be a great asset as a defensive coordinator for any team that adds him now.

Cowboys | Sean Lee on schedule for normal offseason    Tue Jan 13, 12:47 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee (knee) is likely on schedule to have a normal offseason, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys defense was better than we thought they would be this year...and they did that without Lee. He's the best player they have on that side of the ball, so his return will greatly help their production.

Cowboys | Franchise tag for DeMarco Murray?    Tue Jan 13, 12:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray, who will be a free agent this March, could receive a franchise or transition tag from the team if they reach a multi-year deal with WR Dez Bryant first. 'I'm not worried about my future,' Murray said. 'I just lost a big game, the biggest game of my life. Just not worried about it right now. Just relax with my family and get away from it for a little bit.'

Footballguys view: Murray is the biggest name free agent at the running back position. The Cowboys could prevent him from testing the open market by placing the franchise tag on him. The single-season number for a franchise-tagged back will be around $11 million in 2015. If tagged, Murray would have until mid-July to work out a new long-term contract with the team.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not hampered by injury    Thu Jan 8, 06:37 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has averaged 20 carries and 78 yards per game since breaking his hand Dec. 14 after averaging 25 carries and 121 yards per game in the first 14 contests of the season. Head coach Jason Garrett said any drop in carries for Murray isn't related to his hand, and the running back has proven that the injury hasn't hampered him.

Footballguys view: The biggest concern for the Packers is Murray. They need to have a concentrated effort on defense to at slow him down and force the Cowboys offense to be more one dimensional. Murray's hand has felt good, and he won't change the hard plastic shell he's been using for extra protection this weekend against the Packers.

Cowboys | Terrance Williams a deep threat again?    Thu Jan 8, 06:35 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams had three catches for 92 yards and three touchdowns in the team's wild-card playoff win over the Detroit Lions last week, and he has catches of 53, 51 and 76 yards in the last four games. This comes after an eight-game span in the middle of the year in which he had just one catch of more than 20 yards and just one touchdown. "Nothing has really changed," Williams said. "I'm still running the routes, the way I've always run my routes. I think Tony (Romo]) is just taking a few more chances deep than he was before."

Footballguys view: Williams has been coming through in a big way since his breakout performance in Week 16. As defenses spend so much time and attention with Dez Bryant (as they should), it leaves single coverage for Williams. He has the deep speed to take advantage of those looks.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has led the Cowboys to an 8-0 record away from home this year, throwing 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions while completing 70.6 percent of his passes in those games.

Footballguys view: Romo has been great on the road, but Green Bay has been dangerous at home. He could get hot in this one, and we're expecting a lot of points to be scored by both teams.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Cowboys | Rolando McClain may practice Friday    Wed Jan 7, 12:48 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain (concussion) probably will not return to practice until Friday, Jan. 9, as he deals with concussion like symptoms.

Cowboys | Tony Romo doesn't like the cold?    Mon Jan 5, 09:35 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has a 26.0 Total QBR in his career when game-time temperatures are 32 degrees or lower.

Footballguys view: Does any quarterback really like the cold? Outside of Tom Brady, most every quarterback struggles to look as sharp when the temperatures dip. Going to Lambeau to take on the Packers this week will be a challenge, but we're certain Romo and the Cowboys will be ready.
