Cowboys | Anthony Spencer contract update Tue Jun 18, 03:24 PM
The Dallas Cowboys could reach a contract extension by the end of next month with LB Anthony Spencer. The sides are not close now, but there has been enough momentum that it could get done before the deadline to sign franchised players to extensions.
| Footballguys view: Spencer's performance as a defensive end in the team's new 4-3 defense is an unknown, so we would be surprised if they committed big money to him long-term. |

Cowboys | Agree to terms with Terrance Williams Tue Jun 18, 02:01 PM
The Dallas Cowboys and WR Terrance Williams agreed to terms Thursday, June 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: Williams will be groomed as a long term replacement for Miles Austin, but he might have trouble overtaking Dwayne Harris for the #3 role this year, as Harris had a terrific end to 2012, with buzz building around him in the offseason. Bryan Broaddus, a former scout who writes for the official Cowboys site said earlier this offseason that "Harris along with (Dez) Bryant has made the biggest jump as a receiver in the terms of route running and catching the ball." |

Dallas Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff said he expects to fit in the team's new 4-3 defensive alignment. 'At the end of the day, it's football,' Ratliff said. 'We've played the 3-4 all these years but we had a nickel package. This adjustment shouldn't be a problem. It's not that much of a difference.' Ratliff is moving from nose tackle to defensive tackle.

Cowboys | Rookie RB Randle had two thumb surgeries Mon Jun 17, 05:08 PM
Dallas Cowboys rookie RB Joseph Randle (Oklahoma State) actually had two thumb surgeries this offseason. Randle has missed all of the team's offseason workouts with this injury but will be wearing a brace for training camp. "I'm just going to have a little brace on there, but I'm going to be good to go [after getting the cast removed]." Randle said.
| Footballguys view: Randle was drafted to be the primary backup behind starter Demarco Murray. He'll compete with Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar for that job. Randle is a speedy back (straight line) but lacks the creativity and explosion of top level backs. |

Cowboys | Miles Austin thinks rest helped hamstrings Mon Jun 17, 04:01 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin said he believes sitting out some practices during organized team activities and minicamp helped him not overwork his hamstrings. Austin has dealt with hamstring problems the last few seasons.
| Footballguys view: "It's one of those things where, you can't not do it and then do it and tell the difference," Austin said last week at Valley Ranch as the team wrapped up the offseason. "But I feel good now." Good news for the Cowboys here. Austin is a great value if he can stay healthy in 2013. His current ADP is WR36 and he's coming off the board at 8.07 in 12 team fantasy leagues. |

Cowboys | Believe Joseph Randle can be full-time RB if needed Mon Jun 17, 02:16 PM
The Dallas Cowboys believe RB Joseph Randle can be a full-time running back if something happened to RB DeMarco Murray. Randle will have to compete with RBs Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner for the No. 2 running back job during training camp.
| Footballguys view: We don't see Randle having any trouble winning the team's RB2 spot behind Murray. Randle has good straight line speed but isn't creative or elusive in the open field. He's not the biggest back so if he were to get an increased workload we might see him split time in some sort of RBBC. Randle is an important player for Murray owners to handcuff if you've got the roster space. |

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Bill Callahan said the team has been impressed with how quickly C Travis Frederick has picked things up during offseason workouts. 'You tell him one time, and he gets it,' Callahan said. 'He may err on occasion, but he's not a repetitive error guy. He's not going to make the same mistake twice. He listens, he learns. He understands the situations that he's in and he can fix it on the move. He can rectify them pretty quick. So it's been a real positive from that sense.'

| Footballguys view: Randle is a big play back with good speed and acceleration through the hole. He's set to be the primary backup behind Demarco Murray. With Murray's durability history then we could see Randle get a few starts in 2013. |

| Footballguys view: Murray needs to stay healthy through training camp to give the team confidence he can make it through the season unscathed. He's a talented runner but durability issues have held him back through his pro career. The team has rookie Joseph Randle (Oklahoma State) as his primary backup. |

| Footballguys view: Randle (Oklahoma State) was drafted in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL draft to be the primary backup behind Demarco Murray. He's a speed back who accelerates quickly. Randle is not overly creative or elusive and relies on his speed to beat angles. With Murray's injury history we could see Randle get a few starts in 2013. |

| Footballguys view: Head coach Jason Garrett gets stripped of his power with this move. The Cowboys have not made the strides Jones wanted during that time and this is most certainly a make or break year for Garrett. |

Cowboys | Dez Bryant working on route running Wed May 29, 02:22 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has been working on improving his route running this season and wants to use the same footwork on every snap. | Footballguys view: It's great to see Bryant's commitment to be the best pro he can be. Last season he finally played up to his enormous potential and this year should be a top 5 fantasy WR again. Bryant has the ability to finish the season as the best WR in fantasy football. |

It's going to be a great year for us,' Murray said. RB Joseph Randle was drafted in the fifth round this year for running back depth.
| Footballguys view: That's a great mindset but we'll have to see it come to fruition before believing in the Cowboys starter. Fantasy owners are taking a risk by drafting him because of his injury history. |
