Cowboys | DeMarco Murray was limited Thursday    Thu Dec 18, 04:40 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, after not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: He could certainly this weekend, since his hurt hand is not the one he carries the football with. That said, be aware he has a late game so your choices if he is deactivated are limited. He's an RB1, so he would be very hard to replace for the Cowboys and you. With this injury, it's safe to consider him more of a RB2 with risk of being limited or out.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not at further risk    Thu Dec 18, 02:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand), who was expected to take some team snaps in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, is in no more risk if he plays in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts than if he sits out this week, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Murray had a plate and screws put into his broken left hand to stabilize the fourth metacarpal. He's been wearing a hard plastic shell on top of his glove for more protection.

Footballguys view: If he plays, we expect him to put up RB1 numbers - keep in mind his hurt hand is not the hand he carries the ball with. But it's an afternoon game, so you might have to make some hard decisions earlier than you'd like. Have other options, but there are only nine other teams to pull from if he's a late scratch.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray practicing    Thu Dec 18, 02:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, and did receive some snaps in team drills.

Footballguys view: Murray might be a game time decision, but it's an afternoon game so your options could be limited. If he plays, we expect him to put up RB1 numbers - keep in mind his hurt hand is not the hand he carries the ball with.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray works with first-team    Wed Dec 17, 01:18 PM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) wasn't expected to do a lot at practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, but he took first-team snaps at running back while wearing a pad on top of his left hand. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team wanted to see him work in practice to make sure he could carry the ball under duress. 'You start with a plan and a vision for what you need to have there and then you just go through feedback, with DeMarco and the training staff, you try to get it to the point where it's functional and comfortable for him to go play,' Garrett said of the added protection. 'It's an evolution. They'll talk back and forth as the week goes on hopefully get something he's comfortable with.'

Footballguys view: The Cowboys need to be careful here. Murray is the heart and soul of their offense, and their Super Bowl aspirations go down the drain if Murray is out during the playoffs. Fantasy owners are waiting to see if Murray can practice fully on Friday.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray in good spirits    Tue Dec 16, 07:08 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand), who had his left hand heavily wrapped past his wrist Tuesday, Dec. 16, said he didn't have any pain after his surgery. "I'm good," Murray said. "I'm great." The team remains optimistic that Murray can play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts, but they won't know until later in the week. Murray will wear a protective glove on his left hand with extra padding on top regardless of if he plays Sunday, Dec. 21.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are just going to have to play the waiting game here. Murray could play...but he'll be limited...or he could miss the game entirely. The Cowboys will use Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar more if Murray is out. Have another option ready to go.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to be game-time decision?    Tue Dec 16, 05:42 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) will likely be a game-time decision against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said the team is still evaluating Murray's status for this weekend. "I think we just want to take a look at it. We don't know," Jones said. "I'm not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday."

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners will be on the edge of their seats until we get a decision. Have Murray at the ready, but make sure to have a backup plan in place. The Cowboys have a backup plan in case Murray can't play. RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will prepare for increased workloads if Murray can't play, and RB Ryan Williams could be activated off the practice squad.

Cowboys | Owner optimistic on DeMarco Murray    Tue Dec 16, 01:14 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Footballguys view: Alright Jerry, whatever you say. Let's see what the team doctors have to see before Week 16. Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray with early optimism    Tue Dec 16, 08:51 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) could play in Week 16, in the opinion of beat writer Bryan Broaddus. At least, that is the team's early thinking.

Footballguys view: This early optimism is a good sign for Murray's availability. Don't get too excited, but let's keep monitoring his progress as the week of practice goes on.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is facing an uphill battle in terms of his availability for the team's Week 16 game, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. Jones said Murray should be able to play in Week 17 if he does not play Week 16.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle to see bigger role    Mon Dec 15, 05:10 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will be the primary running back in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts if RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is forced to miss the game. RB Lance Dunbar would likely step into a bigger role, as well. 'I have a lot of confidence that Joseph Randle would step up and play big for us,' owner Stephen Jones said. 'Anytime that he's had a chance to run the ball this year -- which maybe hasn't been enough -- he's been very successful.'

Footballguys view: Murray has never played a full season in his pro career. This year things looked different as Murray had the largest workload he's ever seen as a football player. This hand injury could knock him out of a sweet matchup against a poor Colts rush defense in Week 16. Randle would be a RB2 with RB1 upside if he gets the start in your fantasy championship.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray has good chance to play?    Mon Dec 15, 05:08 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts after breaking a bone in his left hand, according to a team source. 'Obviously, DeMarco Murray has a broken bone in his hand,' owner Stephen Jones said. 'At the same time, he hasn't been ruled out. It's not something that if it responds well after surgery today, that he can't come back and play this weekend. It's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see.'

Footballguys view: It's way too early to say that. We'll have to see if Murray is available for practice at all this week.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray undergoing surgery    Mon Dec 15, 02:46 PM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is undergoing surgery Monday, Dec. 15, to repair the broken fourth metacarpal in his hand, according to a source. Former Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith underwent a similar surgery during his career and missed one game.

Footballguys view: Uh-oh. Fantasy owners who have ridden Murray's production this far may be without him in the championship game. The workload was larger than ever before for Murray, and this injury is going to force a lot of fantasy owners to rush out for Joseph Randle on the waiver wire. Hopefully, Murray owners already had Randle stashed on the bench as a handcuff to Murray.

Cowboys | No decrease in DeMarco Murray's workload    Wed Dec 10, 12:47 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray carried the ball a career-high 32 times in the Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears, and he also had a career-best nine receptions. He said he feels great, and the workload isn't a concern to Murray or head coach Jason Garrett. 'DeMarco is a guy who has shown he can handle the workload, both as a runner and a receiver,' Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 9. 'He wants more. He never wants to come out of the game. He's a bell cow player and it doesn't look like he's slowing down at all to me. He feels great, he says he feels great and really looks like he's playing a very high level.'

Footballguys view: Murray has never played a full 16-game season during his career. This season he's already surpassed the workloads of his first three years in the pros. Murray is the engine for the Cowboys offense, and the team would be lost without him. No reduction in his workload is great news for fantasy owners who made it this far with Murray as a top scorer.

Cowboys | NFL investigating Tony Romo injury    Sat Dec 6, 04:29 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back, ribs) admitted he has been playing with torn rib cartilage for two months, and the NFL has opened an investigation as to why it wasn't on the injury report, according to a league spokesman. A source said Romo's injury came when he took a big hit in the first series of the game against the Seattle Seahawks Oct. 12. According to the NFL's injury report policy, 'All players with significant or noteworthy injuries must be listed on the report, even if the player takes all the reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game.'

Footballguys view: Uh-oh. Don't mess with the injury report in the NFL. The Cowboys could be in trouble with the league if they weren't disclosing that Romo was hurt.

Cowboys | Tony Romo has broken ribs    Fri Dec 5, 09:07 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back, ribs) revealed Thursday, Dec. 4, that he has been playing through broken ribs along with the transverse process fractures in his back.

Footballguys view: Romo looked a bit limited throwing downfield in the first half, but was able to make a deep throw to Dez Bryant and a nice TD throw on the run to Cole Beasley in the second half. Despite the dud vs. the Eagles last week, he'll still be worth a low QB1 start in the semis.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray carries the load    Thu Dec 4, 11:54 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray finished with 32 carries for 179 yards and a score and nine catches for 49 yards in a 41-28 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday, Dec. 4.

Footballguys view: Murray has yet to have a dud this year and he is likely leading a lot of fantasy teams to the semifinals. Murray is going to go well over 400 touches this year, which will give owners in the first round something to think about next year. This year he's giving them something to celebrate. Next week brings the Eagles, and another game where Murray will likely get as many touches as he can handle.

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams (finger) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 3, and is probable for Week 14 against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Williams has a great matchup against a weak Bears defense in Week 14. Even with the matchup, we only recommend Williams as a 'what the heck' flex option.

Cowboys | Tony Romo probable for Bears    Wed Dec 3, 05:37 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 3, and is probable for Week 14 against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Romo could go off against a bad Bears defense. He's a QB1 with the upside to be the best QB starter in Week 14. The Bears are terrible against the pass, and the Cowboys need to play themselves back into a playoff spot. If the playoffs started today, Dallas would be sitting at home. They need this one more than the Bears, and they'll likely play like it on Sunday.
