Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) has yet to have the MRI on his knee, but the team is anticipating he'll play in Week 4, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Footballguys view: Watch this situation closely because if Bryant missed time it would have a negative impact on the Cowboys entire offense. Make sure that Bryant is able to practice Friday - IF we hear that the results from his MRI were negative. If Bryant doesn't play, then the team would turn to more of WR Cole Beasley and TE Jason Witten.

Cowboys | Tyron Smith's status up in the air    Sun Sep 25, 10:27 AM

Dallas Cowboys OT Tyron Smith (back) is expected to be a game-time decision for Week 3's game against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Smith is the best offensive lineman on the Cowboys roster, but they have outstanding depth and shouldn't lost much if he can't go against the weakened Bears front seven.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott won't lose carries    Tue Sep 20, 11:44 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott won't lose carries due to his two fumbles in Week 2, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Footballguys view: The team selected Elliott near the top of the first round for a reason -- the kid is going to tote the rock. Even with this mistakes, the Cowboys should continue to feature Elliott as the centerpiece of their offense. Obviously, the kid needs to hang onto the ball and we suspect that will be an emphasis in practice going forward.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant won't have it forced to him    Thu Sep 15, 11:02 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant won't have the ball forced into him, according to QB Dak Prescott. 'That's our guy,' Prescott said. 'He needs catches. He needs balls. He had some balls thrown at him. He wants to bring them down and he'd say it himself he wants to bring that touchdown, make that play. I think if he has that, regardless of two catches or not, if he has a touchdown I don't know if we're still talking about this. I'm going to continue to run our offense. If Dez is the read, Dez is the read.'

Footballguys view: While we don't think you should force the ball to Bryant, you probably want him targeted more than five times. We expect Bryant to be more of a focus this week, but frankly the biggest limitation here is his quarterback. Prescott has a ways to go and it will hold Bryant down a bit which is why we rate him as a WR2/WR3 play even against a suspect Washington defense.

Cowboys | Cole Beasley suffered stinger    Wed Sep 14, 12:21 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley suffered a stinger late in the club's Week 1 loss to the New York Giants. The injury is not considered serious, however, and he should be fine for Dallas' Week 2 meeting with the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: We should see Beasley out there on the practice field this week. Fantasy owners should continue to see Beasley worked in as a relief-valve receiver for young QB Dak Prescott. In Week 1, Beasley was on the field for 49 snaps, ran 34 routes, was targeted 12 times and caught eight passes for 65 yards. This week against Washington, we see him as a WR5 from a fantasy lens.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant quiet in opener    Mon Sep 12, 09:41 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant had one catch for eight yards in the season opener Sunday, Sept. 11.

Footballguys view: Bryant had one catch in the back of the end zone, but he failed to complete the catch. Add in that TD, and he would've had a decent day for fantasy owners. We have a feeling the Cowboys will do more to get the ball to Bryant going forward.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott staying as starter?    Mon Sep 12, 03:25 AM

Prior to the first game of the season, suggestions were made that Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott could unseat QB Tony Romo (back) as the starter if Prescott played well enough. Sources indicate Romo's job could be up for grabs, much the same way New England Patriots QB Tom Brady took it from QB Drew Bledsoe in 2001.

Footballguys view: After one game, it's a bit too early to make that prediction but we do realize that it's a possibility. Prescott looks good out there, but as there's more film on him we expect defenses to play him tougher. Against the Giants in Week 1, Prescott had 227 passing yards on 25-of-45 attempts.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris will have a role in Dallas    Sat Sep 10, 12:27 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris will serve as a strict backup to rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott but is expected to have a role, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Footballguys view: His role is a valuable handcuff for fantasy owners. Elliott should dominate and be one of the most productive RBs in fantasy football. If something happens to the rookie, then Morris gets to take over behind a monstrous offensive line. His role while Elliott is healthy should only be as a change-of-pace back.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott praised by rival    Thu Sep 8, 08:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has a 'bright future' ahead of him, according to New York Giants QB Eli Manning, and Manning said Prescott threw the well during his time at the Manning Passing Academy.

Footballguys view: We like what we've seen from him as well, though it hasn't been in full-on NFL action. We think the Cowboys will KISS it this week with the game plan and keep it simple, stupid for Prescott's first real NFL action. We wouldn't start him this week as more than a QB3, as Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris will probably get a ton of work behind that offensive line. The Cowboys want to ease Prescott into the role as much as they can.

Cowboys | Jason Witten restructures    Thu Sep 8, 10:36 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten restructured his contract Thursday, Sept. 8, to create $2.75 million in salary cap space. The Cowboys converted $5.5 million of Witten's $6.5 million base salary into a signing bonus, which reduced Witten's cap number from $8.612 million to $5.862 million. Witten is signed through 2017 and is set to make $7.4 million next season with a cap figure of $12.262 million.

Footballguys view: We'll see what the chances are of him actually getting that money are. It's a lot for a guy who, while prolific throughout his career, is aging and doing less and less. With rookie Dak Prescott under center and Ezekiel Elliott likely to get a ton of carries, we see Witten as no more than a TE3 this week.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott is 100 percent    Thu Sep 8, 01:50 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (hamstring) is 100 percent recovered from a sore hamstring suffered early in training camp. He was able to play one of the four preseason games and said Wednesday, Sept. 7, that his conditioning is 'top notch.'

Footballguys view: This is great news against a shaky Giants run defense, behind a fantastic offensive line. Expect Elliott owners to yell "And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay 90 yards and a touchdown upon thee" and refer to Sam Jackson and Pulp Fiction a lot. Start Elliott in all formats if you happen to be one of those people.
