Cowboys | Tony Romo not practicing    Thu Oct 30, 12:57 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) didn't take part in the walk-through Thursday, Oct. 30, and will not practice with the team. However, head coach Jason Garrett remains hopeful that Romo can play in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. 'He's not ruled out for this game by any means,' Garrett said. 'He's getting himself mentally ready. He's in the meetings. He's a part of our football team, and hopefully as the week goes on, it feels better and he can function and it'll give him a chance to play.' Romo and the team continue to say that his injury is not related to his disc problem that he had surgery on last year. Romo said he'd play if the question is only about pain tolerance. Garrett said the team is calling the injury a bone contusion. The Cowboys are looking into modifications for Romo's pads if he is to play Sunday, Nov. 2.

Footballguys view: We do expect Romo to play this weekend, but it's worth keeping an eye on this. The hit to his back was tough and took him out of the game, but we expect him to play and believe the Cowboys are just being cautious. We see Romo as a solid QB2 this week even in a tough matchup.

Cowboys | Optimistic about Tony Romo's status    Thu Oct 30, 12:15 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo's (back) status is making head coach Jason Garrett feel optimistic about his availability for Week 9.

Footballguys view: We fully expect Romo to play this weekend even against a tough matchup like Arizona. This is the weekly dance we all do--Romo takes a few days off to rest his back, the team pretends maybe he might not start, we all laugh--rinse repeat. Romo should be a rock solid QB2 this week.

Cowboys | Tony Romo expected to be limited    Thu Oct 30, 11:52 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is not expected to do much during practice during practice Thursday, Oct. 30, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Footballguys view: As always, Romo is going to be handled with kid gloves and why not? The Cowboys have playoff aspirations and won't upset the apple cart by risking wearing him down. This week against a tough Arizona team, he's a high-end QB2.

Footballguys view: We're not shocked by this news....Romo was sitting out on Wednesday (or at least limited) already. With this latest back contusion we could see him limited even more. At this time, his playing status for Week 9 against Arizona is unknown.

Cowboys | Tony Romo undergoing MRI    Tue Oct 28, 02:54 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will undergo an MRI exam Tuesday, Oct. 28, for a better look at his bruised back. X-rays came back negative Monday, Oct. 27, and he was able to return to the Week 8 game after taking a pain-killing shot. The team expects Romo to be ready to play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9. He finished the game with 209 yards after going 17-for-28, and he was sacked a season-high five times.

Footballguys view: Romo's back is going to be an issue going forward because it already was a concern for the team. This latest injury will only make him more a limited participant during the week of practice. Romo should be able to continue playing with this less-than-100-percent back.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray reaches 1,000 yards    Tue Oct 28, 12:00 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray became the first running back to reach 1,000 yards this season during the team's Week 8 game Monday, Oct. 27. He finished the game with 19 carries for 141 yards and four catches for 80 yards.

Footballguys view: Murray extends his NFL record with his eighth-straight 100-yard rushing game to begin the season. With 11 more carries he'll surpass the number of carries he had last year in 14 games. Murray has never played a full 16-game schedule before in his pro career, and we think it would be wise for the Cowboys to ease his workload just a tiny bit. Fantasy owners need to grab Joseph Randle off the waiver wire just in case.

Cowboys | Tony Romo probable for MNF    Sat Oct 25, 04:22 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (ribs) practiced Saturday, Oct. 25, and is probable for Week 8 Monday, Oct. 27.

Dallas Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence (foot) hopes to be able to play in the team's Week 9 game, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Cowboys | Doug Free making progress    Sat Oct 25, 11:33 AM

Cowboys | Anthony Spencer to practice    Sat Oct 25, 11:30 AM

Dallas Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) will participate in practice Saturday, Oct. 25.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are getting healthy and that's dangerous. They've been doing a lot with smoke and mirrors this year. Spencer has never reached his full potential but is a solid contributor.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray credits workout partner    Sat Oct 25, 12:29 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray worked out with TE Jason Witten before the team's official offseason program, and he credits the veteran tight end with his increased stamina and durability. 'It helped a lot, obviously with the stamina aspect just building a good armor for your body so you can take some hits and take the pounding of a long season,' Murray said Friday, Oct. 24. 'He's done it for a long time and he's someone who has had a lot of success in this league and he knows what to do to take care of your body in season and out of season, so it helped extremely a lot and I have to thank him and we're still working together.'

Footballguys view: Murray has never played a full 16-game schedule in his pro career. He already has more carries this season than he did as a rookie or a second-year player with the Cowboys. In fact, he's only 30 carries shy of the 217 carries he had in 2013....in 14 games. Fantasy owners concerned about Murray missing time (again) should add Joseph Randle in free agency ASAP.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar seeing more playing time    Fri Oct 24, 02:45 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar is moving closer to 50 percent of the offensive snaps as the team uses fewer three-wide receiver sets. Escobar had three catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 win over the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Escobar is a good desperation play at tight end this week if you are covering a bye or filling in for an injured Owen Daniels. He is also clearly worth a stash in TE premium and deep dynasty leagues.

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) participated in the team's walk-through Thursday, Oct. 23. Romo did not participate in the team's full practice.

Footballguys view: This is a good sign because the team clearly expects him to play since he's involved in the walk-through. We still see him as a QB1 in Week 8 against Washington.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to miss practice    Thu Oct 23, 11:42 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (ankle, back) will not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: We're not seriously worried though it's worth keeping an eye on. The Cowboys are likely just giving their quarterback a little rest and Romo should play against Washington on Monday night. We expect top 10 fantasy quarterback numbers against a shaky Washington defense.

Cowboys | Cut Michael Sam     Tue Oct 21, 03:18 PM

The Dallas Cowboys cut DE Michael Sam from the team's practice squad Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Footballguys view: Sam has now been bounced from two team's this year after he failed to make the Rams roster at the end of training camp. He's an effort player, but a one-dimensional pass-rusher and that's hurting his ability to stick with a team. We'll see if someone makes a move to add him to their practice squad.

Cowboys | Tony Romo shines again    Sun Oct 19, 11:17 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo was 17-for-23 for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 7 win over the New York Giants, and two touchdowns went to TE Gavin Escobar. 'I'd have to say that may be (the) best game I've ever seen Tony Romo play,' owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. 'That was an outstanding game. He was pinpointing the ball, making the kind of plays and protecting the ball.' Romo said his surgically repaired back felt fine during the game, and he needed a toradol shot before the game to help with his bruised ribs and sprained ankle.

Cowboys | Another TD for Terrance Williams    Sun Oct 19, 10:39 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams had an 18-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter of the Week 7 game against the New York Giants. It was his sixth scoring catch, eclipsing his previous best of five in his rookie season last year.

Footballguys view: Williams has six touchdowns, but he also has 1 or 2 catches in five of seven games. He's a risky WR3/Flex with limited upside until you have big play bonuses.

Terrance Williams player page

Cowboys | Dez Bryant has big yardage total    Sun Oct 19, 10:38 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant racked up nine receptions for 151 yards in the Week 7 game against the New York Giants. It was the third-most yards of his career. It was also his 12th career 100-yard game to tie for seventh place on the team's all-time list in that category. Six of his catches were good for first downs, tying for the fourth-most in a single game in his career.

Footballguys view: Bryant took over in the second half and could not be effectively covered. He was a tough out after the catch and in general looked like the force that was expected when he went in the first half of most fantasy drafts. He should beat up on a hapless Washington secondary next Monday night.
