Cowboys | Gabe Jackson visits    Thu Apr 17, 10:03 AM

The Dallas Cowboys visited with Mississippi State OG Gabe Jackson earlier this week.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys will look to upgrade offensive line depth in general to help keep Tony Romo up and throwing. Jackson is a second or third round prospect but has a nice combination of size, power and a shocking bit of quickness given the other two items and would be a nice upgrade in the interior.

Cowboys | Cyril Richardson visits    Thu Apr 17, 09:30 AM

The Dallas Cowboys visited with Baylor OG Cyril Richardson Wednesday, April 16.

Footballguys view: As the Cowboys continue to check out linemen, Richardson is a third/fourth round guy with a huge body and wingspan who isn't as aggressive as he should be. He has played tackle as well as guard so he is a versatile pick for a team.

The Dallas Cowboys are meeting with Oregon WR Josh Huff, Oregon State DE Scott Crichton and West Virginia DE Will Clarke Wednesday, April 16.

Cowboys | To meet with Timmy Jernigan    Tue Apr 15, 01:28 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to meet with Florida State DT Timmy Jernigan Tuesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: Jernigan is a big-bodied tackle who can stuff the run in the middle. He has violent striking hands that help him disengage from a blocker. Jernigan does wear down quickly as games go on, so as a pro he'll likely have to be worked in a rotation.

Cowboys | Met with Aaron Donald    Tue Apr 15, 01:26 PM

The Dallas Cowboys met with Pittsburgh DT Aaron Donald Monday, April 14. He appears to be an ideal fit for defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli's defensive scheme, and Donald might be the best defensive tackle in this year's draft.

Footballguys view: Donald was a standout player at the Senior Bowl earlier this year. His first-step explosion is elite, and Donald has the strength to control the point of attack. He's got the quickness and snap anticipation to get into the backfield quickly.

The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to meet with Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier next week.

Cowboys | Will meet with Aaron Donald    Thu Apr 10, 11:23 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to meet with Pittsburgh DT Aaron Donald next week.

Footballguys view: Donald could be an option for the Cowboys in the first round. He's compact, stout and gets a strong push at the snap of the ball. Donald could create interior pressure for the Cowboys as a defensive tackle, but he can also move out to play defensive end if necessary.

The Dallas Cowboys are not showing interest in free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans).

"And I think all of us are eager to get going. I can't speak for him, but I think everything's on track. We're excited for the offseason. We have a lot to prove. We know exactly what we have to do."

Footballguys view: Romo has plenty of time off to help his back heal. He'll once again be a QB1 fantasy owners can plug and play most weeks.

Cowboys | Could be interested in Chris Johnson    Fri Apr 4, 10:51 AM

The Dallas Cowboys could be interested in Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson. The team wanted to draft him in 2008, but he was selected one pick before theirs.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys want another big-play weapon on their offense, and Johnson could be a fit. If healthy and motivated, Johnson still has the speed to be a threat to score every time he touches the ball. If added, Johnson would compete for playing time with current Cowboys starter Demarco Murray.

Cowboys | Will not meet with Teddy Bridgewater    Wed Apr 2, 02:09 PM

The Dallas Cowboys to not plan to meet with Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater prior to the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys own the 16th overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, and there's scenarios where Bridgewater could actually fall that far (or further). They should be looking at Bridgewater just in case. Behind Tony Romo they have the uninspiring duo of Kyle Orton and Brandon Weeden.

Cowboys | Will decide on position for Tyrone Crawford soon    Thu Mar 27, 07:20 PM

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the team likely will decide soon on whether they will use DT Tyrone Crawford at defensive end or defensive tackle next season. 'He has really good versatility. We are going to look at the landscape of our defensive line and see where he fits in. We really think he can play all four spots. We will use him in a couple of different spots certainly. We want to get him into a role, into a position where he is most comfortable and get his body right,' Garrett said.

Cowboys | Not playoffs or bust for Jason Garrett    Thu Mar 27, 02:01 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said head coach Jason Garrett won't be fired if the team doesn't make the playoffs in 2014. "I don't think so," Jones said at the NFL owners meetings. "I don't look at it that way at all. It's no secret that we probably are shoulder to shoulder on the success we'd like for this team to have with him as head coach and what it would do for our fans' future, our future.'

Footballguys view: It's hard to envision Jerrah firing Garrett ever, especially since he hasn't made the playoffs the last four years and, in fact, hasn't had a season above .500 over that time. As long as the Cowboys make money, Jerry Jones is content it seems.

Dallas Cowboys DT Henry Melton (knee) is going through the process and should be ready by the start of training camp. 'Like all of the injured players he's just going through his rehab process, right now,' Garrett said. 'He had the surgery, I believe in October. The Dallas Cowboys could show interest in free-agent WR Nate Burleson (Lions) at some point this offseason because he played for passing game coordinator Scott Linehan before.

Cowboys | Jeremy Mincey could start    Thu Mar 20, 08:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys DE Jeremy Mincey could be one of the team's starting defensive ends next season.

Footballguys view: DeMarcus Ware for Jeremy Mincey? Sure, seems a fair trade. If by "fair" you mean "insane." Mincey can play better than we saw last year but not enough to pick up Ware's numbers, even if they were down last season.

Cowboys | No serious talks with Anthony Spencer    Thu Mar 20, 08:06 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are still interested in re-signing free-agent DE Anthony Spencer, but the two sides have not had any serious talks to this point.

Footballguys view: Spencer has been a disappointment during his Dallas tenure and they will only miss him because DeMarcus Ware is gone--though he can't remotely fill Ware's cleats.

Cowboys | Even more on Henry Melton    Wed Mar 19, 09:28 AM

Footballguys view: That's a great move for Dallas, as his both his guaranteed money and per season money is in line with what he got as a franchise tagged DT last year. Chances are, he would get more than that on the open market if he plays up to pre-ACL tear levels.

Cowboys | More on Henry Melton    Wed Mar 19, 08:12 AM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys DT Henry Melton's one-year deal becomes a four-year deal if he's on the roster the first league day of the 2015 season.

Cowboys | Henry Melton's deal for one year    Tue Mar 18, 09:55 PM

Updating a previous report, the financial terms are not yet available, but the deal between the Dallas Cowboys and DT Henry Melton is a one-year deal with an option year, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys actually made a smart move in free agency. Melton is basically on a "prove it" deal, and he'll bolster the weakness of the team. Melton was franchised before tearing his ACL last year, so the talent is there.
