Steelers | PIT restructures contracts    Tue Sep 1, 02:13 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown, TE Heath Miller and PK Shaun Suisham all had their contracts restructured Tuesday, Sept. 1. The restructuring created about $6 million in salary cap space for the Steelers, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are thinking about what they might need down the road, and it speaks highly of all three guys that they would restructure to help a greater cause. Specifically Brown, who could say no, then one day walk off to a big contract elsewhere. Brown is the cream of the crop in fantasy, a top WR1 and arguably the first receiver off the board. Miller is a solid, and oftentimes overlooked TE2.

Steelers | Garrett Hartley placed on IR    Mon Aug 31, 04:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Garrett Hartley (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Aug. 31.

Footballguys view: That's two Steelers kickers out for the year for those at home keeping track. The Steelers expected this, so they went out and acquired Josh Scobee on Monday. He'll now be the kicker for Pittsburgh, and he's fantasy relevant because of the high-powered Steelers offense.

Steelers | Josh Scobee acquired by Steelers    Mon Aug 31, 10:38 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars PK Josh Scobee was acquired by the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, Aug. 31.

Footballguys view: The Steelers get their third kicker of the year with this move. Garrett Hartley suffered an injury in the third preseason game, and the Steelers had already lost Shaun Suisham to a season-ending knee injury earlier this preseason. Now on the Steelers, Scobee has fantasy relevance. This offense is going to be one of the highest-scoring units in the league.

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Garrett Hartley (hamstring) suffered an apparent hamstring injury during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

Free-agent PK Connor Barth (Broncos) agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, Aug. 26, on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: That didn't take long. Barth was released by the Broncos on Tuesday, and he's found a new team in a day. His leg may not be that strong, but Barth can be accurate on shorter field goals.

Broncos | Brandon McManus wins job    Wed Aug 26, 10:22 AM

Denver Broncos PK Brandon McManus won the kicking job as PK Connor Barth was released Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: It's always possible the team could bring in another guy but for now, McManus looks like a great value as he'd been under the radar. He's a top-10 kicker for fantasy owners, and his strong leg (he hit a 70-yard field goal in practice) helps in leagues that award bonuses for distance.

Browns | Cleveland has close kicker competition    Mon Aug 24, 05:13 PM

Cleveland Browns PKs Travis Coons and Carey Spear have been competing for the kicker job during training camp and the preseason, but they are neck and neck at this point, according to special teams coordinator Chris Tabor. Tabor has not ruled out the team signing a veteran kicker but does not believe there is a need at this point.

Vikings | Blair Walsh misses four kicks    Sun Aug 23, 09:48 AM

Minnesota Vikings PK Blair Walsh missed three field goals and an extra point during the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: The Vikings don't have a kicker controversy yet after Walsh got 5.25 million guaranteed in a new deal this offseason, but his confidence is shot right now. Walsh bounced back after a 1 for 6 stretch in December last year, so the Vikings will wait and see if this carries over to the regular season before taking decisive action.

Bills | Dan Carpenter practicing    Sun Aug 16, 10:03 AM

Buffalo Bills PK Dan Carpenter (hamstring) is participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 16, for the first time since training camp started.

Footballguys view: Carpenter is set up to be one of the most valuable kickers in fantasy leagues on a team with subpar offense and terrific defense. This is encouraging news and it makes Carpenter safe to draft assuming he has no setbacks in the next few days.

Steelers | Garrett Hartley to join Pittsburgh    Tue Aug 11, 01:08 PM

Free-agent PK Garrett Hartley (Browns) will be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: On one of the league's most explosive teams, Hartley should have fantasy relevance. In fact, he's likely to be a top-10 fantasy kicker this year if he can be a more accurate kicker.

Steelers | Pittsburgh to work out kickers    Mon Aug 10, 06:37 PM

Free-agent PKs Jay Feely (Bears), Alex Henery (Lions) and Garrett Hartley (Browns) will work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, Aug. 11, now that PK Shaun Suisham (knee) is done for the season.

Footballguys view: Any kicker added by the Steelers is going to be fantasy relevant. The Steelers have one of the most high-powered offenses in the league, and their kicker should finish the year as top-10 at the position.

Steelers | Shaun Suisham will have surgery    Mon Aug 10, 04:04 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Shaun Suisham (knee) will undergo surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament. Pittsburgh will subsequently look for another kicker.

Footballguys view: There are some free agents out there like Billy Cundiff, Shayne Graham and Jay Feely the Steelers could look at. Any kicker added should be of interest to fantasy owners. They have one of the league's most explosive offenses, and their kicker should be a top-10 player at the position.

Steelers | Shaun Suisham has torn ACL    Mon Aug 10, 03:34 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Shaun Suisham (knee) has told people he believes he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during the Hall of Fame game. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, Aug. 10, to determine the severity of his injury.

Footballguys view: Terrible news for the Steelers here. Losing your kicker in the opening preseason game is a kick to the midsection. We'll see if the MRI shows a tear to his ACL. If that's the case, the Steelers should start working out kickers immediately. Fantasy owners should be paying attention as the Steelers are going to have one of the most high-powered offenses in the league, and "PIT-K" could be a top-10 fantasy kicker.

Minnesota Vikings PK Blair Walsh signed a four-year contract extension Sunday, July 26, worth $14 million. The deal includes $5.25 million in guaranteed money.

Footballguys view: Walsh has developed into one of the best young kickers in the game today. He could be quite fantasy relevant this year as the Vikings offense should be better with RB Adrian Peterson back on the field. Right now, Walsh is coming off the board at K12 (15.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Footballguys view: Arguably the best kicker in the league, Gostkowski is now the highest-paid at his position. He had already signed his one-year franchise tender, but the two sides were able to work out a long-term agreement. His current ADP is K1 (13.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Three players waived    Thu Jun 18, 04:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Pat Devlin, TE Jacob Maxwell and PK Jeremiah Detmer were waived Thursday, June 18.

Footballguys view: Devlin followed Joe Flacco in college at Delaware, but he's struggled to find a home as a pro since he came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011. His career is likely done after barely lasting a month in Chicago.

Undrafted free-agents WR Mario Hull (Rice) and PK Corey Acosta (Southern Mississippi) and free-agent C Ben Gottschalk (Buccaneers) signed undisclosed deals with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, June 16.

Footballguys view: Hull is the guy to watch here in super deep dynasty leagues. He was undrafted out of Rice, but his career seems to be trending in the right direction. In 2014, Hull set career highs in 32 catches for 621 yards and eight touchdowns.
