Vikings | Minnesota acquires Kaare Vedvik     Sun Aug 11, 02:24 PM

PK Kaare Vedvik was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Aug. 11, in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The Vikings sent a 2020 fifth-round draft pick to Baltimore in return.

Footballguys view: Vedvik instantly becomes the favorite to start over Dan Bailey, who was barely adequate last year. Bailey could be looked at by other kicker poor teams, including his old Dallas Cowboys squad that is possibly doubting Brett Maher right now.

Jets | Taylor Bertolet signed    Sun Aug 11, 09:30 AM

The New York Jets signed free-agent PK Taylor Bertolet (Broncos) Sunday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Chandler Catanzaro retired after a rough start to camp and the preseason, so the Jets have been left in the lurch. They are a strong candidate to sign another team's castoff at final cuts.

Jets | NYJ to hold tryouts for kickers    Sat Aug 10, 11:17 AM

Free-agent PKs Chris Blewitt (Bears) and Blair Walsh (Seahawks) are among several kickers who will try out for the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 10.

Footballguys view: Chandler Catanzaro has had a shaky start to the preseason in addition to a shaky camp, so the Jets have to bring in competition. Jason Myers was highly successful for the Jets last year, but the team let him walk in free agency and sign in Seattle.

Packers | Mason Crosby back to full health    Sun Aug 4, 04:43 PM

Green Bay Packers K Mason Crosby (calf) said he missed practices as a precautionary measure and is no longer bothered by calf tightness.

Footballguys view: Crosby should get back on the field soon as Sam Ficken put on a kicking show at family night at Lambeau Field and would cost a lot less than Crosby.

Titans | Ryan Succop should be ready for opener    Sat Jul 27, 04:22 PM

Tennessee Titans PK Ryan Succop (knee) should be ready for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.

Footballguys view: Austin Bernard will get a chance to show his stuff for the other 31 teams while Succop recovers, and he'll surely be on speed dial for the Titans if Succop misses time this year.

Free-agent WR T.J. Jones (Lions) signed with the New York Giants Saturday, July 27. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also placed WR Corey Coleman (knee) on the Reserve/Injured list and waived PK Joey Slye.

Tennessee Titans DL Jurrell Casey (knee) and PK Ryan Succop (undisclosed) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22.

Footballguys view: Kicker injuries can be tricky, so we'll watch if the Titans sign anyone to hedge against the possibility of Succop being unable to play Week 1. Casey is a key member of the defensive line who is still recovering from a December injury, so we'll keep tabs on his return.

Bears | CHI kicker up in the air    Mon Jul 22, 09:10 AM

Chicago Bears PKs Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry will battle for the kicker spot, but neither is in the lead. The team plans to monitor other teams' kicking competitions for a potential option.

Footballguys view: Ryan Pace said "We're watching all the teams, all the competitive situations around the league. One of them will be kicker. We're just watching that progress as we go forward. We know right now where we stand, where some of those battles are occurring. We're watching those. And I'm sure there will be ones that will pop up that might surprise us", so expect that the Week 1 Bears kicker is someone not currently on the roster.

49ers | More on Robbie Gould    Mon Jul 15, 08:21 AM

Updating an earlier report, San Francisco 49ers PK Robbie Gould's deal includes a $3 million signing bonus and fully guaranteed salaries of $3.15 million and $4.35 million. The option clause must be exercised by the 17th week of the 2020 season, which would fully guarantee Gould $2.25 million and another $2.25 million April 1, 2021. If the option is picked up, the deal would include a $4.5 million base salary in 2021 and a $4 million base salary in 2022.

Gould, who requested a trade back in April, is unsure that playing for the 49ers is best for him and his family. The deadline for a multi-year deal is 4 p.m. ET on Monday, July 15, and he said he was not going to commit to making a decision by then.

Packers | Mason Crosby not a lock    Fri Jul 5, 02:08 AM

Green Bay Packers PK Mason Crosby could face a real challenge from PK Sam Ficken in training camp, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, who notes this is the first time since 2013 that the Packers have carried a second kicker on their offseason roster. Crosby is in the final year of his contract and is set to earn $3.6 million in salary and bonuses.

Titans | Ryan Succop dealing with injury    Sun Jun 30, 09:06 PM

Tennessee Titans PK Ryan Succop (undisclosed) did not participate in minicamp.

Footballguys view: Kickers mechanics are finicky and can get thrown off by injuries. If Succop isn't healthy in camp, the Titans could look elsewhere for a kicker to begin the season. He has been average after signing a long term deal, so the team could move on from him eventually with a 3.4 million dollar price tag this year than only goes up over the last two years of his contract that expires in 2021.

49ers | Robbie Gould says family will dictate decisions    Tue Jun 25, 06:17 PM

K Robbie Gould still hasn't signed the franchise tag extended to him by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason. The 36-year-old has requested a trade which the team has refused up to this point. Gould says he's prioritizing time with his family, who remain in Chicago, Ill. 'It's a complicated situation,' Gould said. 'The way I've kind of approached it is, I want to spend time with my family. And I let my agent handle it, and if anything comes up that I have to make a decision or be in the know, he'll call me and let me know. But right now there's nothing to really know, and I'm just enjoying being home and being in Chicago. ... I'm at a point in my career where my family is what's going to dictate the decisions that I make.'

Footballguys view: Gould's family is in Chicago and no team needs a kicker more than the Bears. The problem is that the 49ers might be asking a lot for him in a trade and the Bears will balk at giving up a high pick for a kicker. This seems like a situation with a wide range of outcomes, including retirement for Gould.

Broncos | Brandon McManus welcomes competition    Fri Jun 21, 12:16 PM

Denver Broncos PK Brandon McManus says he is comfortable with free-agent PK Taylor Bertolet receiving an invitation to training camp. 'I've had another kicker in camp with me every other year,' McManus said recently. 'It's nothing that I'm not used to and it's always good to have someone competing against you. And it's not just (Bertolet). There are 31 other jobs out there and a bunch of others kicking as well.'

Bears | Chicago unlikely to pursue Matt Bryant    Fri Jun 7, 06:39 PM

Free-agent PK Matt Bryant (Falcons) likely will not be an option for the Chicago Bears since he has not handled kickoff duties since 2008 and has not kicked for a cold-weather outdoor team since 2003, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Footballguys view: The Bears should wait until final cuts and add one of the kickers that loses a kicker battle, but performs well this summer. Bryant is proven, but it sounds like he would be a bad fit on the Bears.

Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick out of Bowling Green, Miller is your classic fast/quick slot receiver. He is not afraid to go over the middle and can get open against tight coverage. We'll see if he can compete to be an Adam Humphries-like player for the Bucs.
