Raiders | Sebastian Janikowski happy with vets    Tue Jul 15, 05:31 PM

Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski said Tuesday, July 15 the team needed the veterans they signed this offseason. Janikowski said the veterans will be able to help the young guys on the team.

Footballguys view: Janikowski might be kicking a lot of field goals this year. The Raiders have a veteran offense with Matt Schaub at quarterback, Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew at running back and James Jones at wide receiver. We're not expecting much fantasy production from anyone on the Raiders offense.

Titans | Two to compete for kicker job    Thu Jul 3, 06:57 PM

Tennessee Titans PKs Maikon Bonani and Travis Coons will compete for the kicker job during training camp. Bonani may have an edge because he has a stronger leg.

Eagles | New kicker possible?     Mon Jun 30, 02:38 AM

Because PKs Alex Henery and Carey Spear are struggling, it is possible the team could bring in a new kicker. Henery can hit field goals but has no distance on kickoffs, while Spear is just the opposite. Both specialists could be unseated by a free agent signing like PK Rob Bironas (Titans).

Colts | Pat McAfee could be an option    Tue Jun 24, 02:37 PM

When Indianapolis Colts PK Adam Vinatieri retires, could P Patrick McAfee be an option to replace him? It may be possible considering McAfee has been making 60-yard field goals in practice. 'If I keep making 66-yard field goals in practice every day that'll help out a lot,' McAfee said. 'I think it's going to get to the point it's going to be very hard for them to say 'No,' whenever that time comes, whenever Vinny leaves.'

Giants | May have kicking competition in training camp    Fri Jun 20, 01:34 PM

New York Giants special teams coach Tom Quinn said he sees a training camp competition for the place kicking job between PK Josh Brown and PK Brandon McManus. 'I see everything as a competition,' Quinn said. 'I really like McManus. I liked him coming out. I thought he was a really good kicker coming out of Temple. He's kicked in the Northeast at a high level, and I think he's got a lot of upside.'

The New York Jets signed free-agent PK Andrew Furney and P Jake Schum (Buccaneers) to undisclosed deals Thursday, June 19. In a corresponding move, the team released TE Terrence Miller.

Footballguys view: Another bubble player kicks the bucket while a couple of camp legs join. We don't expect much from either the punter or kicker, though the Jets were trying to get competition for the incumbents all spring.

Jaguars | Roster moves    Thu Jun 19, 02:45 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed undrafted free-agent P Kasey Redfern (Wofford), WR Nathan Slaughter (West Texas A&M) and LS Charley Hughlett (Central Florida) Thursday, June 19. In corresponding moves, WRs Kevin Smith and Brandon Wimberly were waived. Per NFL rules, all undrafted free-agent deals are for three years in length. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Just some bottom-of-the-roster moves that won't impact much in terms of either NFL or fantasy.

Denver Broncos WR Cody Latimer (foot), TE Joel Dreessen (knee), DT Kevin Vickerson (hip) and PK Matt Prater (illness) are not participating in organized team activities Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Latimer is the player to watch here for fantasy owners. He's got a nice size/speed combination and can be a dominant target in the red zone. We'll see Latimer develop as the fourth-string receiver this year, but he could be starting in 2015 opposite Demaryius Thomas in the league's most high-powered offense.

The Detroit Lions have signed fourth-round draft choice DE Larry Webster, fifth-round draft choice DT Caraun Reid and seventh-round draft choice PK Nate Freese to four-year contracts. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Reid is the player to watch here. He's disruptive in the middle of the line and he can generate middle pressure. Reid is also big enough to eat up space as a run defender.

Lions | Close to signing two picks    Thu May 15, 11:37 PM

The Detroit Lions are close to contract agreements with sixth-round draft choice WR T.J. Jones and seventh-round draft choice PK Nate Freese.

Footballguys view: Jones is a possession receiver who can fearlessly run routes over the middle. He does a good job of using his body to keep defenders away from the ball. Jones is not overly athletic and could struggle to get separation as a pro.
