Cardinals | Christian Kirk signs deal    Thu May 24, 03:53 PM

Arizona Cardinals second-round draft choice WR Christian Kirk signed a four-year contract with the Cardinals Thursday, May 24. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals haven't had much luck with new wide receivers, and Larry Fitzgerald will retire soon. Perhaps Kirk can work out for them as the rookie from Texas A&M has a knack for getting open and making plays after the catch. Kirk will come along with new quarterback Josh Rosen too, which should help with chemistry and perhaps the young receivers development.

Cardinals | Josh Rosen could be starter    Wed May 23, 09:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks said he has not ruled out QB Josh Rosen being the starting quarterback this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Rosen only has Sam Bradford to beat out for the starting job. The rookie from UCLA is a talented passer who loves to be aggressive through the air. We'll see if he can capture the top spot early in the regular season. He's clearly the QB of the future for the Cardinals.

Cardinals | Jamar Taylor likely will start    Sat May 19, 01:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals CB Jamar Taylor likely will be the starting cornerback opposite CB Patrick Peterson this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick for the Dolphins in 2013, Taylor spent the last two seasons with the Browns. He's not a tremendous player but he should be an upgrade for the Cardinals over Brandon Williams. The Cardinals acquired Taylor from the Browns in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2020.

Cardinals | Jamar Taylor agrees to restructured deal    Fri May 18, 03:08 PM

Arizona Cardinals CB Jamar Taylor will make $3.5 million instead of $4.25 million in 2018 after agreeing to have $750,000 pushed back into 2019 - the final season of the three-year, $15 million extension he signed with the Cleveland Browns near the end of the 2016 season.

Cardinals | David Johnson with lofty goals    Thu May 17, 10:54 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) said his wrist feels great, and he's aiming for 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.

Footballguys view: Only two backs in NFL history (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk) are members of the 1,000/1,000-club. Johnson certainly could be the next in line. With Mike McCoy running the Cardinals offense in 2018, we should see Johnson get plenty of work as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With Sam Bradford (or rookie Josh Rosen) starting at quarterback, Johnson makes for a great relief-valve target. Fantasy owners can trust him as one of the top picks off the board in any draft/any format.

Cardinals | Arizona will host Bashaud Breeland    Wed May 16, 01:18 PM

Free-agent CB Bashaud Breeland (Redskins) will visit the Arizona Cardinals Thursday, May 17, according to a source.

Footballguys view: A foot injury suffered on vacation earlier this offseason caused Breeland's three-year, $24 million deal with the Panthers to get voided due to a failed physical. Breeland has recovered from his foot injury and is expected to pass all medical tests.

Cardinals | D.J. Humphries part of OTAs    Tue May 15, 04:20 PM

Arizona Cardinals OT D.J. Humphries (knee) has been participating in organized team activities on a limited basis. He is on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick (Florida) in the 2015 NFL draft, injuries have derailed his career. He was inactive for every game as a rookie in 2015 and has only played in 18 games over the last two seasons combined. Humphries is recovering from knee surgery after suffering a dislocated kneecap and injured medial collateral ligament last season.

Cardinals | Christian Kirk was arrested    Mon May 14, 07:14 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk was arrested in February and charged with criminal damage for allegedly throwing rocks at cars while intoxicated.

Footballguys view: The case is pending and a Cardinals spokesman said the team is aware of the incident and spoke with Kirk at length about it. 'Our understanding is that the process will be resolved in the near future, but while it remains an active legal matter, we won't comment further.

Cardinals | Arizona makes some moves    Mon May 14, 04:38 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR C.J. Duncan (Vanderbilt) was signed by the Arizona Cardinals Monday, May 14. WR Jonah Trinnaman was released in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Duncan flashed a bit during his time in college at Vanderbilt. He's a deep target at 5'10" 200 pounds and can rip away contested catches with his strong hands. Duncan is a long shot to make the 53-man roster, but we will monitor his progress in the deepest of deep dynasty leagues.

Arizona Cardinals CB Chris Campbell and OT Korey Cunningham signed four-year deals Friday, May 11.

Cardinals | Chase Edmonds signs rookie deal    Fri May 11, 11:31 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds signed a four-year deal Friday, May 11.

Footballguys view: Edmonds has a compact build at 5'9" 205 pounds. He's a fine receiver out of the backfield with the ability to make defenders look silly with multiple moves in the open field. His lack of bulk might hinder his ability to be a full time player, but he's got the upside to be a decent change-of-pace back in the NFL.

Cardinals | Sam Bradford still the starter     Fri May 11, 10:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford is the starting quarterback, head coach Steve Wilks said Friday, May 11, but Wilks added that he wouldn't hold back QB Josh Rosen.

Footballguys view: Wilks needs to add 'for now' to this statement. Bradford came to Arizona on a one-year deal to keep the seat warm for whatever quarterback the Cardinals selected in the 2018 NFL draft. That became Josh Rosen (UCLA) with the 10th overall pick, and Rosen is clearly the future. Don't expect Bradford to hang onto the starting job all season long...especially if/when he struggles.

Cardinals | Josh Rosen a quick study    Fri May 11, 09:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen settled down after showing some early nerves during the first day of rookie minicamp Friday, May 11, according to head coach Steve Wilks, and Wilks said Rosen is already showing an understanding of the playbook. 'The guy is extremely smart,' Wilks said.

Footballguys view: Rosen is the smartest guy in the room, just ask him. In all seriousness, Rosen is incredibly bright and needed to be challenged according to his former college coach at UCLA Jim Mora Jr. Rosen has a chip on his shoulder because of the 'nine huge mistakes' made in front of him in the 2018 NFL draft. Sam Bradford may be the starter for now, but Rosen has the upside to be a franchise quarterback for the Cardinals. Don't be surprised if he takes over this season.

Cardinals | Greg Little trying out for Cards    Fri May 11, 05:57 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Little (Bengals) is participating in the Arizona Cardinals' rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick (Browns) in 2011, Little hasn't played in a game since 2014. He spent all of last year out of football and is just looking to get another shot to prove himself.

Cardinals | Josh Rosen signs rookie deal    Thu May 10, 09:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen signed a four-year deal worth $17.84 million with an $11 million signing bonus Thursday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Rosen has the best chance to start from the best position as the Cardinals signal caller. That's not to say the situation is ideal or he's a top ten fantasy quarterback, but that he has Larry Fitzgerald, David Johnson and a decent line, as well as a good coaching staff. It makes him the best of the bunch right now, though we wouldn't invest in him for a redraft league this year.

Cardinals | Bronson Hill released    Thu May 10, 12:16 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Bronson Hill was cut Thursday, May 10, as a corresponding move to the signing of FB Derrick Coleman.

Footballguys view: Hill wasn't going to have much of an impact anyway, and Coleman can help protect Josh Rosen and clear the path for David Johnson.

Cardinals | Arizona waives two quarterbacks    Mon May 7, 04:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Brandon Doughty and Alek Torgersen were waived Monday, May 7.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have a trio of quarterbacks to get by through camp. Sam Bradford was added on a one-year contract in free agency to be a safeguard as the team's starter. Mike Glennon was brought in for veteran depth as a backup. Josh Rosen was the team's first-round pick and should be seen as the QB of the future in Arizona.

Cardinals | Elijhaa Penny to assume utility role    Fri May 4, 12:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Elijhaa Penny is reportedly making the transition from backup running back to a role in which he will play some fullback, H-back and tight end while maintaining his usual special teams duties.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals are changing things up in the backfield behind starter David Johnson, and fantasy owners who love to handcuff need to take notice. We expect rookie fourth-round pick Chase Edmonds to be the primary backup behind Johnson in 2018. Penny may have a difficult time transitioning to more of a blocking role at 235 pounds.

Cardinals | Bigger role for Ricky Seals-Jones?    Thu May 3, 09:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Ricky Seals-Jones said he likes the new system offensive coordinator Mike McCoy has installed, and Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports Radio 910 expects Seals-Jones to have an expanded role in 2018.

Footballguys view: McCoy has been known to create TE-friendly offenses during his time in the NFL (see Chargers), so it will be interesting to see what he does in Arizona. Seals-Jones is an under-the-radar prospect for fantasy owners who could have TE2 production in 2018.

Cardinals | Arizona adds several UDFAs    Mon Apr 30, 04:33 PM

Undrafted free-agents TE Alec Bloom (Connecticut), WR Jonah Trinnaman (Brigham Young), TE Andrew Vollert (Weber State) and WR Corey Willis (Central Michigan) were signed by the Arizona Cardinals Monday, April 30.

Footballguys view: Vollert has over 120 catches and 12 touchdowns over the last two seasons. He'll compete for a spot on the roster as a move tight end. Vollert has good effort as a blocker but could increase his playing strength.

Cardinals | Three undrafted signees join Arizona    Sun Apr 29, 01:36 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Jalen Tolliver (Arkansas-Monticello), FB Austin Ramesh (Wisconsin) and QB Chad Kanoff (Princeton) signed undisclosed contracts with the Arizona Cardinals.

Cardinals | Arizona selects Chase Edmonds    Sat Apr 28, 01:43 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected Fordham RB Chase Edmonds with the 134th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Saturday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Edwards was very productive at Fordham, though admittedly it was against lesser competition. Can he translate that success to the NFL level? He doesn't look like he can put on more weight to his frame, doesn't always run as decisively as you'd like, and lacks polish blocking.

Cardinals | Arizona takes Christian Kirk    Fri Apr 27, 08:12 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk with the 47th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday, April 27.

Footballguys view: When not captaining the Enterprise, Kirk is a very solid receiver who runs tremendous routes and has ver ystrong hands he uses to snatch balls from defenders. Should make Josh Rosen pretty happy when Larry Fitzgerald retires.

Cardinals | Sam Bradford remains QB1 for now    Fri Apr 27, 01:43 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford remains the team's projected Week 1 starter ahead of first-round pick QB Josh Rosen, according to head coach Steve Wilks, though he indicated that could change.

Footballguys view: We won't be shocked if Bradford remains the starter but let's all be clear -- the chances the oft-injured former first round pick stays healthy for the whole year is somewhere between slim and none, and slim is up in Sedona reconnecting with it's past self and some energy crystals. Rosen will see the field this year, and we are bullish on him.

Cardinals | Arizona adds Josh Rosen    Thu Apr 26, 09:14 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected UCLA QB Josh Rosen with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Thursday, April 26.

Footballguys view: This is a great spot for him and a great fit for the Cardinals, who move up without giving away next year's first. Rosen is smart and will pick up the offense quickly and while there are durability issues, he has nothing on QB-room buddy Sam Bradford who hopefully didn't break a foot kicking the grass in frustration. Add in a very experienced and effective Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson and you have a nice landing spot for one of the top quarterbacks in the class.

Cardinals | Arizona may not trade for early pick    Mon Apr 23, 05:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is open to a first-round trade, but it's more likely to occur if a quarterback the Cardinals like slips into the double digits.

Footballguys view: Arizona is not expected to trade up into the first few picks for a quarterback. In Monday's edition of MMQB, Peter King guesses that Arizona will move up from 15 to No.5 overall in a trade with the Denver Broncos. In that scenario, King has QB Baker Mayfield falling to that point. Not only do we think he's not there, but we also believe the Broncos themselves would think long and hard about the Sooners QB they've shown a TON of interest in during the pre-draft process.

Cardinals | Sam Bradford not have problems with knee    Thu Apr 19, 04:21 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford (knee) is not having any problems with his knee and has been limited during offseason workouts because there is no reason to rush things in April, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

Footballguys view: He may not have issues now but it's just a matter of time given Bradford's injury history. We won't be leaning on him too hard in fantasy leagues this season.

Cardinals | Sam Bradford to be limited in offseason    Tue Apr 17, 10:05 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford was limited in the team's first offseason minicamp practice Tuesday, April 17, and head coach Steve Wilks said afterward Bradford will continue to remain limited for the time being.

Footballguys view: Bradford has a one-year $20 million deal with the Cardinals and there's an option to pick him up for 2019 for the same price. The Cardinals will slow play Bradford leading up to the season so they can see if he can be near full strength by the time the regular season rolls around.

Cardinals | Dez Bryant an option for Cards?    Sat Apr 14, 12:08 PM

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) could receive some interest from the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, but the team does not have a lot of salary cap space available.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have an aging Larry Fitzgerald as their top receiver. This may be his last year in the pros, so having Bryant there to take over eventually would help. The problem is, Bryant is no longer a no.1 WR and he doesn't seem too intent on changing his game. That may have changed with his release from the Cowboys, but no team should be looking at him as the top target he used to be.
