Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald's status uncertain    Thu Aug 25, 03:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) is not participating in practice Thursday, Aug. 25, and head coach Bruce Arians said he is not sure if Fitzgerald will be able to play in the preseason game against the Houston Texans Sunday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: They might as well rest him. It's not like they don't know what he can do. We know it too, and see him as a solid WR3 this season, right where his current ADP is as WR26, No. 56 player overall.

Cardinals | John Brown practicing    Thu Aug 25, 02:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) is participating in practice Thursday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: We're not sold we'll see him against the Houston Texans on Sunday but he should be OK for Week 1. We see Brown as a WR4 behind Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald, with occasional production but not enough consistency if everyone else is healthy.

Cardinals | John Brown not practicing    Wed Aug 24, 05:03 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Aug. 24, because he is dealing with a headache.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation as the regular season draws near. Brown's status for Week 1 may be in doubt as he continues to be bothered with concussion symptoms and headaches.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald not rushing back    Wed Aug 24, 03:37 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) said he could be taking part in practice but does not want to suffer a setback this close to the start of the season.

Footballguys view: The veteran knows his body better than anybody else. There's no need to rush him back to the field as Fitzgerald plans for Week 1 of the regular season. Fantasy owners should consider Fitzgerald a WR3 with upside. He's going off the board at WR28 (5.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche could play    Mon Aug 22, 04:18 PM

Arizona Cardinals DE Robert Nkemdiche (ankle) has a good chance to play Sunday, Aug. 28, against the Houston Texans, according to general manager Steve Keim.

Footballguys view: Nkemdiche is a big man and he can create interior pressure on the passer. He gets off the line quickly and has good burst to the ball-carrier. Nkemdiche could boost the Cardinals defense as a part-time pass-rusher in 2016.

Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche could return this week    Mon Aug 22, 11:54 AM

Arizona Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche (ankle) has a good chance to play in the third preseason game this week, according to general manager Steve Keim.

Footballguys view: Nkemdiche is an explosive player who checks in around 300 pounds. He can be a force to be dealt with in the middle of the line. Nkemdiche can be moved around the defensive line to attack an opponent from multiple spots. We're excited to see if the rookie can give them an Aaron Donald-like prospect up front. The potential has always been there with Nkemdiche, but he's yet fully played up to that during his football career.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu practicing Sunday    Sun Aug 21, 05:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is practicing with the team Sunday, Aug. 21, about 35 weeks after tearing his ACL.

Footballguys view: The typical ACL recovery timeline is shrinking more and more (unless you're Dion Lewis). Mathieu got a big extension this offseason, and it looks like he could be ready to face Jimmy Garoppolo and the Patriots in Week 1.

Cardinals | John Brown cleared to return    Sun Aug 21, 05:44 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) was cleared to practice on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Footballguys view: This is big as Brown's concussion absence was beginning to get to the worrisome stage. We want to see him play in Week 3 of the preseason, and certainly a second concussion this year will be a problem for Brown, but this news puts him close to his pre-injury ADP.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald back at practice    Sun Aug 21, 05:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) is practicing Sunday, Aug. 21 after sitting out the team's exhibition game against the San Diego Chargers on Friday, Aug. 19 with a slight MCL sprain.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald was never a worry even in the wake of this news. He generally plays well through injuries, and this one seems like a very minor issue.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald able to run    Sat Aug 20, 08:52 AM

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald dealing with MCL sprain    Sat Aug 20, 12:35 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) didn't play against the San Diego Chargers Friday, Aug. 19, and head coach Bruce Arians said Fitzgerald is dealing with a 'slight' sprain of the medial collateral ligament.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald has played through more often as his career has gone on, and he has generally played well through them. This shouldn't affect his ADP with three weeks to go until the season starts.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer struggles Friday    Fri Aug 19, 10:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed four of his eight passes for 37 yards and an interception in three series against the San Diego Chargers Friday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: The Chargers defense got ran over by the Titans last week, but Palmer without John Brown and Larry Fitzgerald had less success. He was taken to the house by Brandon Flowers and looked nothing like the Palmer we saw before his finger injury last year derailed the postseason. If he looks this bad again next week, it is reason to be open to a slow start, but being short-handed in the wide receiver group is a plausible excuse for now.

Cardinals | Arizona looking at William Beatty    Wed Aug 17, 02:10 PM

Free-agent OT William Beatty (Giants) is receiving some interest from the Arizona Cardinals.

Footballguys view: We're seeing a growing market for Beatty's services. He's linked to about five teams, and we expect him to sign in the near future. Beatty tore his pectoral muscle in May of 2015 and missed all of last season. He's healthy now and capable of starting for some team in need.

Cardinals | Lofty comparisons for David Johnson    Tue Aug 16, 10:07 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has had a good training camp, and he has been impressive his teammates and the coaching staff. He averaged 135 yards from scrimmage per game while posting eight rushing touchdowns, four receiving scores and one kickoff return for touchdown. His skills as a receiver out of the backfield are drawing lofty comparisons. 'I mean, probably the best receiving back I've seen,' general manager Steve Keim said Tuesday, Aug. 16. 'A lot of people have compared him to Marshall Faulk, and our coaches had Marshall Faulk in Indy. I think he's very similar in some way athletically and in terms of ball-catching skills to Marshall.'

Footballguys view: Johnson was already an outstanding receiver coming out of college, but he seems to have learned to run inside with more courage. Even if he shares carries with Chris Johnson, he has top 3 running back upside in the Cardinals' aggressive offense.

Cardinals | Bruce Arians hospitalized    Tue Aug 16, 09:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians was hospitalized Tuesday, Aug. 16, in San Diego. He alerted the team's medical staff that he was not feeling well and experiencing stomach pain. He was taken to a San Diego area hospital for further evaluation.

Cardinals | Troy Niklas practices with first team    Tue Aug 16, 04:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas is practicing with the first-team offense Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: Recent reports indicate Niklas is pushing Germaine Gresham and Darren Fells for the starting job. It only makes sense that he's getting first-team reps. Even if Niklas wins the starting job, the Cardinals TE position is not going to be a fantasy gold mine. Head coach Bruce Arians rarely uses the position as a receiving threat.

Cardinals | John Brown still in protocol    Tue Aug 16, 04:01 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) still has not cleared the concussion protocol. The Cardinals remain concerned and are being cautious with Brown, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: That's the right move for the Cardinals. Brown's role is set in the offense as a deep threat who can get by defenders in a hurry. He just needs to get healthy to produce like a low-end WR3 with upside for fantasy owners. His current ADP is WR33 (6.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu off the PUP list    Tue Aug 16, 03:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham should be fine    Sun Aug 14, 01:38 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) suffered a back injury during the first preseason game but should be fine moving forward, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Gresham is a seasoned veteran, but we don't expect the Cardinals to use him enough this year to be fantasy relevant. Bruce Arians is one of our favorite coaches in the league--and the Cardinals are a high-powered offense--but the TE position just isn't used that much in this system.

Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche turning heads    Thu Aug 11, 09:55 PM

Arizona Cardinals DE Robert Nkemdiche was called a 'quicker, faster' version of retired DT Darnell Dockett by general manager Steve Keim, and Keim said Nkemdiche is capable of taking over games.

Cardinals | David Johnson will have help    Thu Aug 11, 04:29 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson will not be run into the ground early on in the regular season because RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington will be able to help, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: How much will Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington see the field? Overall we have David Johnson as an excellent RB1, but if Arians starts splitting carries to keep the young player fresh, it will hurt his production. Arians has other more important things to worry about, but Fantasy GMs don't, so keep an eye on reports out of camp.

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) will not play in the Cardinals' first preseason game Friday, Aug. 12, against the Oakland Raiders even if he is cleared to do so.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals are wise to take it easy on Brown. We may not see much of him until Week 3 of the preseason.

Cardinals | JJ Nelson returns     Tue Aug 9, 02:11 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 9. He missed practice Monday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Nelson has an opportunity to showcase his talent further up the depth chart with John Brown (concussion) out. We'll see if Jaron Brown or Nelson can emerge as a fourth WR in the Cardinals high-powered passing game.

Cardinals | Jared Veldheer restructures    Tue Aug 9, 09:01 AM

Arizona Cardinals OT Jared Veldheer restructured his contract Tuesday, Aug. 9, to create $4 million in salary cap space. He converted $6 million of his $7.25 million base salary into a signing bonus.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals had possibly gone over the cap after signing Tyrann Mathieu, Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald to extensions. This move clears all that up.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald agrees to extension    Fri Aug 5, 04:22 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Cardinals Friday, Aug. 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald was a WR1 last year, but if John Brown and Michael Floyd stay healthy all season, he should be more of a high floor WR3. This contract extension will keep him in Arizona for another year, which could be outstanding from a fantasy perspective if Michael Floyd leaves in free agency.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer receives extension    Fri Aug 5, 04:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer signed a one-year contract extension with the Cardinals Friday, Aug. 5, worth just under $24.35 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Palmer was signed over the next two years for only 19 million dollars, which is less than Ryan Fitzpatrick money. If he can stay healthy through 2018, he'll get fairly compensated for an incredible third act in his career.

Cardinals | Chris Hubert making big plays in camp    Fri Aug 5, 02:12 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chris Hubert has been 'making big plays every day,' according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Cardinals | John Brown still in protocol    Thu Aug 4, 05:21 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) is still in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Brown has the potential to make big plays, so this is worth monitoring. His quickness and deep speed, along with defenses pulling towards Larry Fitzgerald and Mike Floyd have made him a consistent threat. We like him as a WR4, but he could provide more bang for your buck, especially if someone ahead of him gets hurt.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu agrees to extension    Tue Aug 2, 03:14 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu agreed to a five-year, $62.5 million contract extension that includes $40 million guaranteed, according to sources.

Footballguys view: That's quite the number for a player who has seemingly battled injuries from day one in the NFL. With two ACL injuries over the last three years, Mathieu has yet to play a full 16-game schedule in the regular season. When healthy, we're talking about one of the most disruptive playmakers in the game today. Mathieu (knee) may not be ready for the start of the regular season, but reports indicate he could be cleared to practice in three weeks or so.

Arizona Cardinals C A.Q. Shipley and OT D.J. Humphries are comfortably ahead in races for starting jobs at center and right tackle, head coach Bruce Arians said Monday, Aug. 1. C Evan Boehm and OT John Wetzel are the challengers.

Footballguys view: Humphries was a big disappointment as a rookie, but it sounds like he is starting to fulfill his promise as a first-round pick.
