Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback in the team's Week 3 game, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Get used to it. Ellington is going to be limited with this foot injury...just like he has been the last two weeks. He's likely to play, and Ellington could have an expanded role with Jonathan Dwyer deactivated from all team activities due to a domestic violence incident.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams signed    Thu Sep 18, 02:47 PM

The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent RB Kerwynn Williams (Chargers) to their practice squad Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Another guy to help stem the loss of Jonathan Dwyer. Williams is buried on the depth chart, so we wouldn't waste a roster spot on him.

Cardinals | Jalen Parmele re-signs    Thu Sep 18, 02:45 PM

The Arizona Cardinals re-signed RB Jalen Parmele to their active roster Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Since they cut Chris Rainey, they had room to bring Parmele back. With the players in front of him, it'd be an uphill climb to have fantasy value, so he isn't worth a roster spot.

Cardinals | Chris Rainey being released    Thu Sep 18, 02:42 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Rainey is being released from the practice squad Thursday, Sept. 18. Rainey has a history of domestic violence, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Rainey wasn't likely to have a huge impact, but this is interesting from the standpoint that it tells you how the wind is blowing in the NFL. Teams without headaches don't want to add potential ones.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor to see more work    Thu Sep 18, 02:02 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor will likely see his role increased with RB Jonathan Dwyer deactivated indefinitely. Stepfan is a smaller back than Dwyer. Taylor and RB Robert Hughes have combined for two carries for four yards in two games as the team's third and fourth options. RB Andre Ellington (foot) also missed practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and the team is hoping he can do some work Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Andre "Duke" Ellington will still get the workload, but Taylor just became his handcuff. Taylor will be the "big back" and goal line option, spelling Ellington as well when he needs it. He's not worth much more than a flex though, somewhere along the line of a RB3 or RB4 unless Ellington gets hurt.

Cardinals | Jonathan Dwyer deactivated    Wed Sep 17, 07:58 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Jonathan Dwyer has been deactivated from all team activities Wednesday, Sept. 17. The team was made aware of allegations by the Phoenix police and are cooperating fully with authorities.

Footballguys view: The team plans to closely monitor the situation as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available. Without Dwyer, the Cardinals will turn to Stepfan Taylor as the primary backup behind Andre Ellington.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton in line to start for Cards    Wed Sep 17, 07:51 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is in line to start his second straight game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) sidelined. "It hasn't changed today," head coach Bruce Arians said. "We'll be status quo with Drew as the starter, Logan as the backup and we'll still be waiting on Carson."

Footballguys view: Stanton has plenty of experience in the Arians offense dating back to their days together with the Colts. Against the 49ers, we see Stanton as a low-end QB2. He certainly had zero issue forcing the ball to Larry Fitzgerald in Week 2.

Cardinals | Not looking to add QB    Wed Sep 17, 01:39 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is believed to be improving steadily, and the team likes the quarterbacks on their roster, so they will not be looking to add a quarterback from outside the organization.

Footballguys view: If Palmer is banged up, the team will continue to feature Drew Stanton as their starter. Rookie Logan Thomas is his backup.

Cardinals | Foot still bothers Andre Ellington    Wed Sep 17, 02:28 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) has soreness in his left foot but it has gone down considerably from a week ago. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians hopes Ellington can practice Thursday, Sept. 18 and Friday, Sept. 19 before the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Expect this headline to reoccur as the regular season goes on. Ellington has worked through the injury over the first two weeks of the season. This foot problem has fantasy owners on pins and needles as they deal with whether or not to put Ellington in their lineups each week. Against the 49ers in Week 3, Ellington is a low-end RB2/flex play.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer could be out a while    Tue Sep 16, 10:56 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer's (shoulder) timetable to return from a nerve injury in his shoulder could vary greatly, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'It takes some time,' Arians said. 'Could be a day, could be a month.'

Footballguys view: There is no precise timetable for Palmer. This means Drew Stanton could continue as the starter while Carson is out.
