Cardinals | Carson Palmer would understand drafting QB    Wed Apr 16, 12:30 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he would understand if the team selects a quarterback during the 2014 NFL Draft, because he knows the team has to think about its future. 'If you are in a position to draft the best player on your board, and that's the best position to be in as an organization, and (a quarterback) is the best player on the board, you are not only making your team better by creating competition but you are helping out the future,' Palmer said.

Footballguys view: Palmer knows the score. He's in the twilight of his career, and the Cardinals need to find the next quarterback to groom behind him. There's a few big-armed quarterbacks who could interest the Cardinals in the draft. Players like Derek Carr, Zach Mettenberger or Tom Savage may be on their radar.

Cardinals | Weston Richburg visits    Tue Apr 15, 03:25 PM

The Arizona Cardinals visited with Colorado State OG Weston Richburg Monday, April 14.

Footballguys view: Richburg is arguably the best center prospect in this draft class, and many in the scouting community compare him to former Colts great Jeff Saturday. He can move well in space, and Richburg can be a sticky blocker at the second level. Many scouts feel he can be a 10-year starter at the position. The Cardinals are strengthening their offensive line this offseason, and adding a guy like Richgburg would continue that trend.

Cardinals | Ra'Shede Hageman visits    Thu Apr 10, 12:38 PM

The Arizona Cardinals hosted Minnesota DT Ra'Shede Hageman for a visit.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have some holes on both sides of the ball and Dan Williams wasn't terribly impressive at the nose tackle spot last season. Hageman would help plug up the run and bring some more pass rush to the defense.

Cardinals | Jason Verrett to visit    Tue Apr 8, 02:25 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are scheduled to visit with Texas Christian CB Jason Verrett Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10. Verrett is doing well after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Footballguys view: Verrett is a smaller corner (5'10 180 pounds) than some scouts like. He makes up for the lack of size with sharp instincts and a feisty attitude. Verrett has the speed to close quickly on the ball. He's going to be a first-round pick.

Cardinals | Worked out Terrance West    Mon Apr 7, 11:23 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have already had a pre-draft private workout with Towson RB Terrance West.

Footballguys view: West has good feet for his size (220 pounds). His rushed for over 2,500 yards and 41 touchdowns last year at the FCS level. West may surprise some by how high he's drafted--perhaps as early as the second round. The Cardinals are looking for additional RB help behind Andre Ellington. West would give them a nice power complement behind Ellington, and he would compete with Stepfan Taylor for positioning on the depth chart.

Cardinals | Not interested in DeSean Jackson    Fri Mar 28, 08:52 PM

The Arizona Cardinals will not pursue free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Eagles).

Cardinals | Bruce Arians elaborates on Andre Ellington's role    Fri Mar 28, 02:11 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expanded on how the team plans to use RB Andre Ellington this year at the owners meetings this week. "He is still not a guy who you will pound up the middle 30 times a game and survive," Arians said. "He can run the football 30 times a game if you do it correctly, but you'd rather have him have 10 catches and 20 carries and let Stepfan Taylor or (Jonathan) Dwyer have the rest of the carries pound the rest of the ball up in there."

Footballguys view: It's good to get some clarity here as this is an important note for fantasy owners. Ellington should be their lead back, and he can be quite productive with his big-play ability. We won't see him push the pile, and perhaps the Cardinals will have a different back near the goal line.

Cardinals | Antonio Cromartie contract update    Thu Mar 20, 08:00 PM

Updating a previous report, the Arizona Cardinals signed CB Antonio Cromartie to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million. Cromartie can earn another $500,000 if he is able to play in every game in 2014.

Footballguys view: Hard to imagine the Jets didn't find a way to match or top this. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have the top corner tandem in the AFC West and one of the best in the NFL.

Cardinals | Antonio Cromartie could cover TEs    Thu Mar 20, 05:53 PM

The Arizona Cardinals could use CB Antonio Cromartie, who is expected to line up opposite CB Patrick Peterson, to cover opposing tight ends next year. Opposing tight ends accounted for 17 of the 29 touchdowns that Cardinals' opponents scored in 2013. Cromartie, however, lined up in the slot in 16 of 127 career games. CB Jerraud Powers could fill in at nickel and slot until CB Tyrann Mathieu (knee) returns.

Footballguys view: With the above stats in mind, somebody had better stop tight ends. On the other hand, fantasy owners would prefer Arizona keep things the way they are now.

Cardinals | Not interest in Chris Johnson    Wed Mar 19, 02:14 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are not interested in trading for Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals appear to be ready to ride second-year backs Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor in the running game, with Jonathan Dwyer and maybe Ryan Williams providing depth. Bruce Arians is prepared to go minimalist at the running back position with respect to resources allotted, and it's probably a smart move.

Cardinals | Ted Ginn signing    Thu Mar 13, 05:39 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have signed free-agent WR Ted Ginn Jr. (Panthers) to an undisclosed three-year deal Thursday, March 13.

Footballguys view: Ginn will do returns and probably step in on occasion for a third wide receiver. Unless you get points for return yards, his fantasy worth is negligible.

Cardinals | Antonio Cromartie to visit    Thu Mar 13, 03:29 PM

The Arizona Cardinals will host free-agent CB Antonio Cromartie (Jets) Thursday, March 13.

Footballguys view: If the Jets want Cro back, they may need to hustle. What role he'd play is anyone's guess--perhaps they view him as an upgrade over Jerraud Powers--but if it is part time, Cromartie will probably wait for another offer.
