  Cardinals | Arizona's Week 3 injury report    Sat Sep 23, 05:44 PM

Arizona Cardinals OT D.J. Humphries (knee) did not participate in practice Saturday, Sept. 23, and has been ruled out for Week 3. LB Deone Bucannon (ankle), TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs) and OG Mike Iupati (triceps) were limited during practice and are listed as questionable. LB Karlos Dansby (hip) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer on track to play    Sat Sep 23, 05:39 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (non-injury) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners who stream QBs are not really thrilled if Palmer is their option this week. It's a Monday night game against the Cowboys that gave up four TD passes to Trevor Siemian (Broncos) last week. The Cardinals offense has gotten off to a slow start in 2017, and they are hoping to get things revved up faster in Week 3.

Cardinals | JJ Nelson listed as questionable    Sat Sep 23, 05:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson (hamstring) was limited during practice Saturday, Sept. 23, and is listed as questionable for Week 3.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are looking forward to Nelson's Monday night performance, but they have to have a backup plan in case he doesn't play. He's been limited all week in practice, and hamstring injuries can slow a speedy receiver like him down. We might see Jaron Brown get a little more love if Nelson isn't quite himself.

Cardinals | John Brown will not play    Sat Sep 23, 05:14 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) did not participate in practice Saturday, Sept. 23, and has been ruled out for Week 3.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Brown did not practice all week. On Monday night against the Cowboys, the Cardinals will line up Larry Fitzgerald, J.J. Nelson and Jaron Brown in 3WR sets.

Cardinals | JJ Nelson limited Friday    Fri Sep 22, 05:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 22.

Footballguys view: Nelson has been limited through two practices, so tomorrow we would like to see him get in a full practice to fully trust him on Monday night.

Cardinals | Deone Bucannon could debut in Week 3    Thu Sep 21, 10:13 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) is trending toward playing in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Bruce Arians said Thursday, Sept. 21.

Footballguys view: Bucannon's return should help a pass defense that was taken apart by Matthew Stafford in Week 1. He will be on a snap count if he plays, but make life more difficult for Cole Beasley, Jason Witten, and Ezekiel Elliott in the passing game when he is on the field.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham expected to play    Thu Sep 21, 10:02 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs) will likely play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, head coach Bruce Arians said Thursday, Sept. 21.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson to see more work    Thu Sep 21, 09:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson will see more carries in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys than he did in Week 2, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Johnson is a possible flex play against a weak Cowboys defense. Expect 15 or more carries and a reasonable chance at goal line carries.

Cardinals | Thursday practice report for Arizona    Thu Sep 21, 06:42 PM

Cardinals | Limited practice for JJ Nelson    Thu Sep 21, 06:39 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Footballguys view: Nelson is likely to play and should split time and targets with Jaron Brown. Expect Nelson to take a little advantage of the poor Dallas secondary. Expect him to put up decent WR3 numbers.

Cardinals | John Brown not on the field    Thu Sep 21, 06:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Footballguys view: Brown is unlikely to play this weekend, and JJ Nelson and Jaron Brown will take his targets. Both are reasonable WR3 options.

Cardinals | J.J. Nelson finding end zone with regularity    Mon Sep 18, 02:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson has scored seven touchdowns in his last seven games, including one in each game this season.

Footballguys view: Grab Nelson off your waiver wire if he's out there. With John Brown (quad) banged up, Nelson is getting plenty of work in the Cardinals passing game. He's a WR3/flex play with upside with this role.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald falls off in Week 2    Sun Sep 17, 06:45 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald caught three passes for 21 yards in a 16-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald was quiet against the Colts, but he should still be a target hog over the course of the year as he and Carson Palmer could be on their farewall tour. He'll be in PPR lineups against the Cowboys next week.

Cardinals | Solid outing for JJ Nelson    Sun Sep 17, 06:31 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson caught five passes for 120 yards and scored one touchdown Sunday, Sept. 17, in a 16-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: Nelson is almost as effective as John Brown in the deep passing game, and the Cardinals faced a Colts secondary that was missing Vontae Davis today. He should be a hot pickup and good upside WR3/Flex play against the Cowboys next week.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson leads ARI rushing attack    Sun Sep 17, 06:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson ran 11 times for 44 yards Sunday, Sept. 17, in a 16-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: In other words, there's no Cardinals back worth rostering right now.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer rebounds in Week 2    Sun Sep 17, 05:59 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer threw for 332 yards on 19-for-36 passing, with one touchdown and one interception, in a 16-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: Palmer kept plugging and posted a decent fantasy line, but he failed on fourth and goal and threw a red zone interception. This is about as easy as it will get for Palmer this year, so if this is all he can muster, he's not going to be of much use to us this year.

  Cardinals | Arizona's Week 2 inactives    Sun Sep 17, 11:35 AM

The Arizona Cardinals have declared QB Blaine Gabbert, OT D.J. Humphries, RB D.J. Foster, LB Deone Bucannon, TE Jermaine Gresham, WR John Brown, OG Mike Iupati inactive for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Troy Niklas and Ifeanyi Momah will get more work with Gresham out. Jaron Brown and JJ Nelson will get more work with Brown out. It's fair to ask if John Brown is worth rostering with his lack of availability this early in the season.

Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche likely to play    Sun Sep 17, 08:41 AM

Arizona Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche (calf) is expected to play in Week 2's game against the Indianapolis Colts. He was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Cardinals | Ifeanyi Momah could see targets    Fri Sep 15, 08:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Ifeanyi Momah might see some targets in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts with TEs Jermaine Gresham (ribs) and Troy Niklas (hip) each nicked up and questionable.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals don't target the TE position that much, so we're not expecting much from Momah even with this opportunity.

Cardinals | Elijhaa Penny to have role in offense    Fri Sep 15, 08:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Elijhaa Penny is expected to have a role in the offense in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts with RB David Johnson (wrist) on the shelf.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Idaha in 2016, Penny spent his rookie season on the Cardinals practice squad. He's a big back (6'2" 230 pounds) who can be used as a receiver out of the backfield in addition to a grinder between the tackles. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has previously stated Penny did a good job on the scout team in 2016. Penny is a deep dynasty prospect we've been monitoring, but it may be difficult for him to get mixed into action on Sunday as he's fourth on the depth chart behind Kerwynn Williams, Andre Ellington and Chris Johnson.

Cardinals | Chad Williams to get opportunity    Fri Sep 15, 08:16 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chad Williams will make his season debut in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts after being a healthy scratch in the opener.

Footballguys view: Williams, a third-round selection out of Grambling State, showed some good things during training camp for the Cardinals. We like him in dynasty leagues and will be watching to see how the rookie is mixed into the action this year.

Cardinals | John Brown ruled out for Week 2    Fri Sep 15, 06:00 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) did not practice Friday, Sept. 15, and is ruled out for Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: JJ Nelson and Jaron Brown will get more work against the weak Colts pass defense on Sunday.

Cardinals | Arizona injury report for Week 2    Fri Sep 15, 05:59 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps), OT D.J. Humphries (knee) and OG Mike Iupati (triceps) did not practice Friday, Sept. 15, and is out for Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) was limited in practice and is doubtful, while TE Troy Niklas (hip) and DE Robert Nkemdiche (calf) were limited and are listed as questionable. TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs) did not practice and is questionable, while LB Karlos Dansby (shin) practiced in full and is longer on the injury report.

Footballguys view: The offensive line is going to miss Iupati in the run game and Brown's absence will hamper the deep passing game against the Colts. The Cardinals offense should still have success if the Colts defense plays the way it did against the Rams last week.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer expects different offense    Thu Sep 14, 10:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he expects the offense to change 'drastically' without RB David Johnson (wrist).

Footballguys view: And not for the better. It could be ok against the woeful Colts, but overall it's going to be a long year for the Cardinals.

Cardinals | John Brown still not practicing    Thu Sep 14, 05:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) was held out of practice for a second straight day Thursday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals offense needs all hands on deck without RB David Johnson. We're not rushing to add Brown to the lineup if he does play against the Colts. Brown played 63 snaps against the Lions in Week 1 but was only able to haul in four passes for 32 yards.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson expected to get work    Wed Sep 13, 11:53 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is 'expected to get carries' in the team's Week 2 game Sunday, Sept. 17, versus the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: That just makes things more complicated in the Cardinals backfield. Andre Ellington might be the better play in PPR leagues, while Kerwynn Williams might be the better flex option in standard leagues. Then Johnson could come in and crush the limited fantasy value for both.

Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby (shin), TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs), OT D.J. Humphries (knee) and OG Mike Iupati (triceps) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 13. LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) and DE Robert Nkemdiche (calf) were limited.

Cardinals | John Brown misses practice    Wed Sep 13, 05:43 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams will start this week    Wed Sep 13, 05:00 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kerwynn Williams will be the starting running back this week with RB Andre Ellington serving as the No. 2 running back, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: At least we have some clarity now after Arians hinted on Sirius XM that Ellington might be the lead back. Either way, fantasy owners are looking at a two- and maybe three-headed RBBC that includes the newly signed Chris Johnson.

Cardinals | David Johnson surgery set for Thursday    Wed Sep 13, 10:14 AM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) will have surgery on his dislocated wrist Thursday, Sept. 14, and the team is hoping he returns in December.

Footballguys view: Without Johnson in the lineup, the entire makeup of the Cardinals offense changes. They just added Chris Johnson back to the mix, but Bruce Arians hinted on Sirius XM that it would be Andre Ellington getting more work in the backfield. Oh yeah - Kerwynn Williams was already there as the no2 back behind Johnson and he'll obviously get worked in somehow as well. There's no clear-cut handcuff to Johnson, so this is a situation most fantasy owners (and scrambling Johnson owners) should avoid until we get further clarity.

Cardinals | Arizona turning to Andre Ellington?    Wed Sep 13, 12:05 AM

Adding more context to an earlier report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told Sirius XM NFL Radio Tuesday, Sept. 12, he is hopeful RB David Johnson (wrist) can return 'by Thanksgiving or Christmas.' In the meantime, Arians hinted RB Andre Ellington would be the player most likely to carry the load for the Cardinals in Johnson's absence.

Footballguys view: Just when you thought this backfield was enough of a mess with a returning Chris Johnson to cut into the touches of potential starter Kerwynn Williams. Ellington has big-play ability and a long history of getting banged up with increasing touches. This backfield is a mess that fantasy owners should avoid until we get more clarity.

Cardinals | Arizona pessimistic about David Johnson?    Tue Sep 12, 11:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Tuesday, Sept. 12, he hopes RB David Johnson (wrist) will be able to return from the Reserve/Injured list by Christmas.

Footballguys view: Sometime around Thanksgiving or Christmas is when Johnson could be available. That means he could be back for the fantasy playoffs. Stash him on IR in your fantasy league if you can. It's going to be awhile before Johnson gets back out there for the Cardinals.

Cardinals | David Johnson officially goes to IR    Tue Sep 12, 04:50 PM

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) was officially placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 12. Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Cardinals) was officially re-signed in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Johnson will undergo wrist surgery and be out 2-3 months as he recovers. At the earliest, Johnson could return to the field in Week 10 against the Seahawks. Johnson may be back for a run during the fantasy playoffs. Hopefully you have an IR spot in your fantasy league where you can stash Johnson for the time being.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson returns to Arizona    Tue Sep 12, 01:11 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Cardinals) agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Footballguys view: With David Johnson (wrist) on IR, the team turns back to Johnson. They decided to keep Kerwynn Williams over Johnson during the final cuts earlier this year, and Williams should be the lead back in a RBBC. That committee includes Williams, Johnson and Andre Ellington. As you can see, it's a bit of a mess for fantasy owners.

Cardinals | Arizona intends to bring back Chris Johnson    Tue Sep 12, 12:03 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Cardinals) is expected to re-sign with the Arizona Cardinals following the news that David Johnson will miss two to three months to recover from wrist surgery.

Footballguys view: Johnson is going to be in the mix with Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington. The return of Johnson to the desert will negatively impact the fantasy prospects of Williams. Keep this in mind when working your waiver wire.

Cardinals | David Johnson out 2-3 months    Tue Sep 12, 11:40 AM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) will have surgery this week and is expected to miss two to three months, according to a source. Johnson will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return.

Footballguys view: We are holding on to him in our fantasy leagues until we know more about Arizona's plans. Fortunately, as we saw with John Brown this summer, coach Bruce Arians is a straight shooter and not shy about his thoughts on players. We'll hear more useful information on this from Arians in a few weeks.

Cardinals | Arizona signs D.J. Foster    Mon Sep 11, 04:53 PM

New England Patriots RB D.J. Foster was signed by the Arizona Cardinals off the Patriots' practice squad Monday, Sept. 11, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The move was necessary due to the wrist injury of David Johnson. Foster is a receiving back who played both RB and WR during his college career at Arizona State. Kerwynn Williams is the lead back for the Cardinals with Johnson down, and Foster will try to carve out a likely part-time role. He could compete with Andre Ellington for touches.

Cardinals | D.J. Humphries will miss a game or two    Mon Sep 11, 03:36 PM

Cardinals | David Johnson has dislocated wrist    Mon Sep 11, 03:20 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) has been diagnosed with a dislocated wrist.

Footballguys view: He is seeking a second opinion as to whether or not he needs surgery. We could see Johnson put on Injured Reserve due to this injury. In the meantime, fantasy owners left scrambling should target Kerwynn Williams as the top Cardinals back but obviously his value is much lower than Johnson's.

Cardinals | David Johnson heading to IR?    Mon Sep 11, 03:03 PM

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) may be placed on the Reserve/Injured list if he is forced to miss a significant amount of time, according to sources.

Footballguys view: That seems to be the way this situation is heading. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said that Johnson is getting a second opinion on the injury. We should know soon, but fantasy owners need to hit the waiver wire when open. Kerwynn Williams steps into the top spot for the Cardinals with Johnson out for the foreseeable future.
