Cardinals | Timetable unknown on Carson Palmer    Tue Sep 16, 02:00 PM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) doesn't have a timetable for his return from a nerve injury in his shoulder, according to general manager John Keim, and he'll be listed as day-to-day for now.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners take note here. Without Palmer, the team would continue to look at Drew Stanton as their starter. Stanton showed better chemistry with Larry Fitzgerald (10 targets) than he did Michael Floyd (six targets) in Week 2. Monitor the practice report to see when/if Palmer can get back out there.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer undecided for Week 3    Mon Sep 15, 06:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) continues to seek treatment for a nerve injury in his right shoulder Monday, Sept. 15, and head coach Bruce Arians is concerned that Palmer's injury could lead to long-term damage. Palmer's status for Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers is undecided.

Footballguys view: Watch the practice report this week to see if Palmer can get back in action, but know that practice participation may not be a determining factor. Arians said Palmer could suit up against the Niners even if he doesn't practice all week.

Cardinals | John Abraham to return    Mon Sep 15, 03:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB John Abraham (concussion) will return to the team, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Abraham had been mulling retirement.

Footballguys view: Wow. This news surprises us a bit. If he's been suffering memory loss dating back to last year, then Abraham might be best served hanging up the cleats. It's his decision, and it looks like he's going to play.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer wasn't close to playing    Mon Sep 15, 01:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said he wasn't close to playing in Week 2 against the New York Giants. He described his injury as a nerve in his right shoulder that is in deep sleep. Palmer suffered the injury in Week 1 when he went down on a running play, and he's not sure when he'll be able to return. 'They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down,' Palmer said. 'It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don't know.' QB Drew Stanton went 14-for-29 for 167 yards in his absence.

Footballguys view: We could see Stanton as the starter again in Palmer is not ready to go. Monitor his practice participation this week to determine whether or not he'll be ready to go anytime soon.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu makes debut    Mon Sep 15, 01:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) played for the first time in Week 2 against the New York Giants since suffering two torn knee ligaments last December. He was used in limited packages against the Giants when the team used seven defensive backs. Mathieu finished the game with one tackle.

Cardinals | John Abraham still deciding on retirement    Mon Sep 15, 02:16 AM

Arizona Cardinals LB John Abraham (concussion) will not make a decision on retirement until the weekend has come to a conclusion. If he does not return to the team by Tuesday, Sept. 16, he is ineligible for the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: If Abraham is suffering from memory loss, it's probably best that he hang up the cleats.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald could benefit    Sun Sep 14, 11:22 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald could see more targets in Week 2 with QB Drew Stanton starting, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Jurecki.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald was about as unimpressive as his stat line, but Stanton could keep the passing game closer to the line of scrimmage. It's hard to get excited about Fitzgerald this week in any event.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer out Sunday    Sun Sep 14, 11:10 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is out for Week 2 Sunday, Sept. 14. QB Drew Stanton will start in his place.

Footballguys view: Drew Stanton will get the start. The outlook for all of the Cardinals key offensive players takes a hit. Palmer is no guarantee to play Week 3.

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) is expected to play Sunday, Sept. 14, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Ellington isn't 100%, but he's still a solid RB2 start against a Giants run defense that is a little underrated.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer expected to play    Fri Sep 12, 04:46 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) has been limited in practice all week with a 'nerve thing,' but head coach Bruce Arians expects Palmer to play in Week 2 against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Palmer came on for a great second half on Monday night, and the Giants pass defense looked morose against the Lions. He's a decent low-end QB1/high QB2 this week.

Cardinals | Arizona high on Andre Ellington    Thu Sep 11, 04:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington has what it takes to be the team's version of Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles, according to general manager Steve Keim. 'When you look at body type, and his frame, and the way he runs the football, I think there's a chance he can end up being like a Chris Johnson, like a Jamaal Charles,' Keim said. 'That's the kind of guy I see Andre Ellington being in the future for us.'

Footballguys view: Of course the team is high on him, Ellington is a talented back. His big play ability has been hampered by this foot injury--and that will continue to limit his fantasy value.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald was slowed by knee    Thu Sep 11, 04:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) dealt with a knee injury that limited him in the team's Week 1 win over the San Diego Chargers, head coach Bruce Arians admitted. Fitzgerald wasn't on the field for several key third downs because he hadn't been able to practice those plays. "I learned my lesson last year not to ask (Larry) to do things in a game that you're not practicing," Arians said. "It's not fair to the quarterback either."

Cardinals | Andre Ellington bounced back well    Thu Sep 11, 08:19 AM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) was a lot less sore than anticipated after playing in Week 1.

Footballguys view: We were concerned Ellington might not make it through the game but he did, though he has said he wasn't 100 percent. That was clear overall though he was very good receiving the ball, catching all five of his targets. He also cramped up in the fourth quarter, likely because he was a bit out of game shape. We expect another solid outing from him this week and put him in the range of an RB2.

Cardinals | John Abraham leaves team    Wed Sep 10, 02:12 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB John Abraham (concussion) has left the team, per league sources.

Footballguys view: Abraham's pro career may be done due to concussions and rumored memory loss. The Cardinals defense is already missing key players, and this isn't going to help.

Cardinals | Cards won't force ball to Larry Fitzgerald    Tue Sep 9, 07:37 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald won't have the ball forced to him, according to head coach Bruce Arians. QB Carson Palmer agreed with the idea after he learned his lesson last season trying to force the ball to Fitzgerald. "You have to ask the quarterback," Arians said. "(Larry) is going out for a pass every time. I don't look at that. We don't design plays for guys to get the ball. That's interceptions waiting to happen." Fitzgerald was targeted four times and caught one pass for 22 yards in the Week 1 win over the San Diego Chargers.

Footballguys view: This isn't exactly what fantasy owners want to hear. That being said, Fitzgerald will have plenty of weeks where he gets his. Michael Floyd attracts a lot of defensive attention, and that should help free up Fitzgerald from time-to-time.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington should play    Tue Sep 9, 05:07 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) is expected to play this week against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch the practice report this week. We're certain Ellington will be somewhat limited this (and every) week because of this foot injury. Ellington will likely wear a boot to protect and rest his foot but should be back on the field come Thursday and Friday in order to be ready for Sunday's game.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington wasn't full speed    Tue Sep 9, 12:20 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot), who ran 13 times for 53 yards and caught all five of the passes thrown his way for 27 yards in the Week 1 victory over the San Diego Chargers Monday, Sept. 8, said he wasn't full speed in the game after injuring his left foot last week. 'I wasn't full speed,' he said. 'My quickness, I had some quickness going from right to left, but it was a little harder going from left to right.' Head coach Bruce Arians said Ellington cramped up in the fourth quarter but played 'pretty good.'

Footballguys view: We're still surprised that he even played, so learning that he wasn't at full speed is not exactly a revelation. Ellington said he expects his foot to be sore on a short week heading into Week 2 against the New York Giants.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington sees 18 touches    Tue Sep 9, 01:56 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (ankle, foot) was able to play in the Week 1 game against the San Diego Chargers, and he posted a game-high 13 carries and 53 rushing yards while also adding five receptions for 27 yards.

Footballguys view: We're still surprised that Ellington played on Monday night. It's a good sign for fantasy owners that he was able to play and put up decent numbers in Week 1. This injury situation will have to be monitored closely.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer has solid opener    Tue Sep 9, 01:55 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 24 of his 37 pass attempts for 304 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 1 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Footballguys view: So much for San Diego's revamped secondary. Palmer had time to throw, and he made (of course) a few deep strikes in the game.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd hits century mark    Tue Sep 9, 01:55 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd had a team-high five catches for a game-high 119 yards in the Week 1 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Footballguys view: Floyd is a talented player who finished last year as the 23rd best fantasy receiver. This year, he should be able to easily break into the top-20. Floyd is a solid WR2/flex play each week.
