Cardinals | Brice Butler won't play    Wed Aug 15, 04:42 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Brice Butler (foot) will miss Week 2 of the preseason with a foot problem, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

Footballguys view: Butler is listed as the no2 WR for the team opposite of Larry Fitzgerald. If healthy, Butler has the speed to take the top off the defense.

Cardinals | David Johnson likely to play more    Mon Aug 13, 11:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson was limited to just two snaps in the preseason opener, posting a pair of 14-yard runs. He said earlier in the preseason that he didn't think he needed to play much if at all in the preseason to get ready. His head coach, Steve Wilks, disagrees. 'David didn't play last year,' Wilks said Monday, Aug. 13. 'And you talk about the timing. I think it's important he plays quite a bit. When I say quite a bit, I'm talking my standards.' Wilks clarified and added that his standards do not necessarily mean playing into the second or third quarter, but it would be seeing more than just two offensive snaps.

Footballguys view: Getting to see more of Johnson in the preseason will be entertaining, but it would be tragic if he suffered another injury during time that he wouldn't be out there if the coach wasn't pushing for more preseason reps. It does sound like Wilks is aware of this. Johnson looked as good as ever and certainly worth a top five pick in drafts.

Cardinals | Jeremy Cash exits with knee injury    Sun Aug 12, 09:25 AM

Arizona Cardinals LB Jeremy Cash (knee) was carted off the field and taken to the locker room after sustaining a knee injury in the preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Cash was set to be a top backup at outside linebacker and he had some time in the Panthers organization to aid the transition to the new defense. Deone Bucannon avoided a serious injury earlier in camp, and now the depth behind him is thinner.

Cardinals | Lackluster debut for Josh Rosen     Sat Aug 11, 11:59 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen completed six of his 13 pass attempts for 41 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Rosen played better than his numbers indicated, but the Cardinals offensive line and receivers let him down on multiple occasions. While there is reason for hope long-term, this was also a snapshot of the uphill battle Rosen might face when he does take over.

Cardinals | David Johnson shows some burst    Sat Aug 11, 10:51 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson had two carries for 28 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Put him in bubble wrap. Johnson looks ready to pick up where he left off when he ruled the fantasy world in 2016. The only question is how much this version of the Cardinals offense will lose in overall production compared to that version.

Cardinals | Greg Little continues his comeback    Wed Aug 8, 04:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Greg Little has not played in a regular season game since 2014, but he is attempting to make a comeback during training camp and the preseason. Little caught the attention of the team's scouting staff with an iPhone video, showing his route running and good physical shape.

Footballguys view: Little has always had athleticism and speed when not injured. That's not the reason he's been out of the league and bounced around as a pro. Little needs to show more consistency if he wants to stay with the Cardinals as a reserve receiver.

Arizona Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (knee) is considered day-to-day because of a hyperextended left knee, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

Footballguys view: This is great news after an injury scare to one of the crucial players in the Cardinals defense as it goes through a scheme change.

Cardinals | Deon Bucannon receives positive MRI results    Fri Aug 3, 07:56 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon's (knee) MRI did not show any damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament or meniscus, according to a source. Bucannon has been diagnosed with a hyperextended knee and a bruised kneecap.

Footballguys view: This is a relief for the Cardinals, who don't have any proven backups at linebacker. We might not see Bucannon again during camp or even the preseason, but assume that he'll be ready for Week 1 against Washington in IDP leagues.

Cardinals | Deone Bucannon injured Thursday    Fri Aug 3, 01:47 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (knee) suffered a hyperextended left knee in practice Thursday, Aug. 2, and is set to undergo an MRI on Friday, Aug. 3.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals don't have quality, experienced depth at linebacker, so this could be an impactful injury without a surprise summer from someone like Jeremy Cash. We'll be watching this closely. Haason Reddick and Antoine Bethea would get more tackle opportunities if Bucannon misses significant time.

Cardinals | Chase Edmonds at RB2?    Thu Aug 2, 10:27 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds is looking like the favorite to be the No. 2 running back behind RB David Johnson, according to beat writer Katherine Fitzgerald. Edmonds has seen a lot of work with the first- and second-team offenses. 'The one thing with Chase, great patience. You saw it today,' head coach Steve Wilks said. 'He's just really savvy, just really allowing his blocks to set up, and he has tremendous speed once he gets to the second level.'

Footballguys view: Unless David Johnson gets hurt again, the number two back in Arizona will have little value. That said, Edmonds has long been viewed around these parts as a natural Johnson handcuff and his pass-catching ability gives him a little extra something over the other backs. He can also run the ball well between the tackles. If Johnson gets hurt or his production flags, Edmonds will see more time than anyone else. He's going as the 75th back off the board and that ADP sounds about right for a David Johnson handcuff.

Cardinals | Markus Golden unsure about return    Mon Jul 30, 03:44 PM

Arizona Cardinals DE Markus Golden (knee) said he has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery but is not willing to place a timetable on his return.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick out of Missouri in 2015, Golden was cleared to run in April as he continues to recover. The Cardinals are moving to a 4-3 scheme under new head coach Steve Wilks so Golden will switch from OLB to DE and play opposite Chandler Jones in 2018.

Cardinals | Chad Williams among the starters    Sun Jul 29, 09:50 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chad Williams was the No. 3 receiver with the first-team offense in 11-on-11 drills during training camp Sunday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Brice Butler was the #2. Second-round pick Christian Kirk and deep threat JJ Nelson will also figure into this passing game in same way. It's very possible that no Cardinals wideout other than Larry Fitzgerald has fantasy value this year.

Cardinals | Sam Bradford on track to start    Sat Jul 28, 02:30 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford is the clear favorite for the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

Footballguys view: It's not a surprise given Bradford's experience as a starter in the NFL. QBs Josh Rosen and Mike Glennon will be competing for the No. 2 quarterback job. We expect 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen to take over at some point this season as he's the quarterback of the future.

Arizona Cardinals SS Tre Boston will be the team's starting free safety this season, according to head coach Steve Wilks. S Budda Baker will serve as the nickel safety.

Footballguys view: Baker looked like a budding IDP star last year, so this news is unwelcome. His play could easily get him back on the field full time very soon.

Cardinals | David Johnson reports    Mon Jul 23, 10:30 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson reported to training camp Monday, July 23.

Footballguys view: Johnson skipped mandatory minicamp earlier this year in an effort to force the Cardinals hand in contract negotiations. Set to make $1.8 million in 2018, Johnson wants a new deal and is in the final year of his contract. Back in June, Cardinals GM Steve Keim said he looked forward to 'rewarding' Johnson so perhaps the two sides are making positive strides towards that new deal. Johnson missed almost all of last year due to a wrist injury but is at full strength now and a RB1 for Fantasy GMs in any format.

Cardinals | New scheme to help Robert Nkemdiche?    Sat Jul 21, 09:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche's production could be helped by Arizona's move to a permanent four-man front on defense, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com.

Footballguys view: Nkemdiche never seemed like an ideal fit for a two-gapping 3-4 defensive end. His elite size/athleticism combination can flash a lot more attacking one gap in the new defensive scheme. His development is crucial for a team that is lacking talent on the interior defensive line.

Cardinals | Christian Kirk to have small role?    Thu Jul 19, 10:01 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk is not in the mix for the No. 2 receiver job, according to Mike Jurecki of 98.7 Arizona, and Jurecki believes either WR Chad Williams, WR JJ Nelson or WR Brice Butler will win the job.

Footballguys view: It's a bit disappointing for Fantasy GMs excited about the rookie from Texas A&M. We love his dynasty stock, but Kirk may not be making much of an impact as a rookie. Larry Fitzgerald is the no.1 wide receiver for the Cardinals but the depth chart is wide open behind him. Williams is considered to be a favorite for the no.2 job, while Nelson and Butler are speedy veterans who can stretch the field. The quick rookie, Kirk was taken in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft, may have to wait for a large opportunity.

Cardinals | Bigger role for Chad Williams?    Thu Jul 19, 09:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chad Williams looks more confident and comfortable this offseason and is one of the players in the mix for the No. 2 receiver job, in the opinion of Mike Jurecki of 98.7 Arizona.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of Grambling State in the 2017 NFL draft, Williams only played 98 snaps as a rookie. This year, Williams could win the starting job opposite Larry Fitzgerald and have a breakout season. Williams is a physical receiver with the concentration, body control and quickness to excel on different route concepts.

Cardinals | Ricky Seals-Jones reportedly arrested    Tue Jul 17, 09:20 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Ricky Seals-Jones was reportedly arrested over the weekend for assault, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

Footballguys view: Seals-Jones allegedly sought to use a hotel restroom but was denied entry because he was not a guest. Seals-Jones then reportedly tried to use the restroom inside one of the hotel's restaurants and once he was denied entry again, he is accused of shoving an employee to get by him.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald will end career in desert    Tue Jul 17, 02:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald made it clear Tuesday, July 17, that as long as he is playing professional football he will be playing for the Cardinals.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald hinted that 2018 would not be his last season, but he did make it clear how much he loves playing for the Cardinals. 'I've built a good life for myself down there. Playing in the same place for 15 years is a true blessing.' Fitzgerald said.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald could play longer    Tue Jul 17, 09:19 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald hinted that he isn't close to retiring. He still feels good, enjoys the competition and loves being around his teammates. He also said he's either playing for the Cardinals or retiring. 'It doesn't really matter about the age, it's about what you put into it and your mindset,' Fitzgerald said. 'Everybody kind of takes numbers and assumes this is when it's supposed to end. As an athlete, fortunately, you write your own script. If you still produce and you play at a high level, you kind of determine how long you want to play. If I can stay at a high level, I still keep destiny in my own hands.'

Footballguys view: Set to be a free agent in 2019, many expected this to be the final year for Fitzgerald in the pros. However, this is the second time he's talked about perhaps playing longer than one more year. We can't imagine him in anything but a Cardinals jersey so if he likes the future of the team (likely with potential franchise QB Josh Rosen), then Fitzgerald could stick around. He's still a WR2 with WR1 upside for fantasy owners and that's where he's being drafted right now (WR15, 3.09 in 12 team PPR leagues).

Cardinals | Christian Kirk in position to contribute     Sat Jul 14, 12:11 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk has an opportunity to make an immediate impact as an 'underneath threat' in the passing attack, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

Footballguys view: Most pundits feel Kirk is a slot guy, which means he is stuck behind Larry Fitzgerald until the veteran retires. Luckily, he can also play outside, which will give him ample opportunity to produce in year one. Right now he is going off the boards as the 62nd receiver off the board. We'd feel like he had the potential to be very valuable there if we knew more about the quarterback situation. But he could move as the summer goes on.

Cardinals | Ricky Seals-Jones ready to break out    Sun Jul 8, 02:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Ricky Seals-Jones should see considerably more targets with an expanded role this season, according to Mike Jurecki of AZCardinals.com.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals lack an established #2 receiver, so Seals-Jones has a chance to be a fantasy TE1 in this offense. Jermaine Gresham is recovering from an achilles injury, so the tight end job is likely Seals-Jones to open the season. He's one of the best late draft picks for tight end streamers with Washington, the Rams, and Chicago on the schedule to open the season.
