Cardinals | Carson Palmer may be limited Sunday    Sat Aug 29, 11:01 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is not expected to see as much playing time as some of the other starters during the third preseason game Sunday, Aug. 30, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals need to be careful with their starter. With so many injuries around the preseason, it's not a shock to see them do this with Palmer.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson practices    Fri Aug 28, 03:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) participated in practice Friday, Aug. 28. He said he will have to see how he feels before deciding if he will play in the third preseason game Sunday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: We thought he was missing this game for sure, so this is a nice surprise. He still has some big-play ability and pass-catching ability and could contribute a little when he spells Andre Ellington. Right now he's nothing more than a deep bench player, but likely one you can grab a little later off the waiver wire.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson should make final roster    Thu Aug 27, 06:49 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is expected to make the 53-man roster despite not playing for his new team yet.

Footballguys view: Awesome. An injured veteran running back who might be at the end of his career--and he's had motivation issues in the past. Be bold on Andre Ellington fantasy owners. If Ellington is healthy, he could easily outperform his ADP of RB19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Two defensive players miss practice    Wed Aug 26, 06:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Sean Weatherspoon (hamstring) and CB Jerraud Powers (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, but they could return to practice later in the week.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson misses practice    Wed Aug 26, 04:16 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, but head coach Bruce Arians said he hopes Johnson will be able to practice later in the week.

Footballguys view: Johnson was added by the Cardinals and almost immediately was out of action due to this hamstring problem. We're believers in Andre Ellington's upside, and we're not expecting Johnson to contribute much -- even when healthy.

Cardinals | Troy Niklas sidelined again    Wed Aug 26, 04:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas (hamstring) has been sidelined because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners know that Bruce Arians doesn't make fantasy-relevant tight ends. Niklas sat out practice earlier in in camp because of an injury to the same hamstring.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd not catching    Wed Aug 26, 03:30 PM

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (fingers) has not begun catching yet as he continues to follow his rehabilitation protocol.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd may be ready    Wed Aug 26, 02:30 PM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (fingers) has no timetable for his return, but head coach Bruce Arians is optimistic Floyd will be ready for Week 1.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson day-to-day    Mon Aug 24, 05:08 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not given enough time to heal. Johnson is a speed back, so a hamstring injury is even more devastating for a player with his skill set. If healthy, he gives the team a nice veteran backup behind Andre Ellington.

Cardinals | Jerraud Powers out a few days    Mon Aug 24, 04:50 PM

Arizona Cardinals CB Jerraud Powers (hamstring) will be shut down for a few days as he nurses a hamstring injury.

Cardinals | David Johnson has solid outing    Sun Aug 23, 09:56 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson rushed for 66 yards on 13 carries in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22. Johnson also caught two passes for 15 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Johnson was outstanding after a long wait for him to get over a hamstring injury. Chris Johnson's injury may cost the veteran a roster spot with the rookie looking so good. The rookie should be the second back and poised to benefit if Andre Ellington misses time this year.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson dealing with injury    Sun Aug 23, 09:15 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) did not play in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, because of a pulled hamstring that could keep him out for two weeks.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson happy with new team    Thu Aug 20, 02:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson said he likes the idea of playing with QB Carson Palmer and all of the other weapons the team has on offense. Johnson likes that the team throws to their running backs and does not have any problems splitting time with RB Andre Ellington.

Footballguys view: Johnson is happy, but does he care? If he's motivated, Johnson could provide the team with valuable depth behind Ellington. Fantasy owners shouldn't be falling all over themselves to add Johnson.

Cardinals | Corey Peters out for season    Thu Aug 20, 01:58 PM

Cardinals | Andre Ellington should still start    Tue Aug 18, 05:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is still expected to be the starting running back, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.

Footballguys view: The arrival of Chris Johnson has thrown fantasy owners into a funk. Chris Johnson was added in large part due to David Johnson's durability issues. Ellington is the lead back, and either Johnson will work in a committee as a change-of-pace back.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson's role unclear    Tue Aug 18, 02:16 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson's role will be determined by the rest of the preseason games, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Johnson is in Arizona more because of David Johnson's durability issue so far in camp than any misgivings about Andre Ellington. If Chris Johnson makes the team, it's going to be hard for David Johnson to carve out a big role without injuries ahead of him on the depth chart.

Cardinals | More on Chris Johnson terms    Tue Aug 18, 09:38 AM

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson signed a one-year, $870,000 deal for the veteran's minimum. The deal didn't include a signing bonus. He has to make the Pro Bowl and rush for 1,300 yards to make the potential $2 million in the deal.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson agrees to terms    Mon Aug 17, 06:11 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Aug. 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Last year was the first season that Johnson did not rush for over 1,000 yards. He finished the season with only 663 yards and one rushing touchdown for the Jets. Johnson now will compete with rookie David Johnson to work as a complementary back behind Andre Ellington. If Johnson has anything left in the tank, he could cut into Ellington's workload and frustrate fantasy owners.

Cardinals | David Johnson will be on the field    Mon Aug 17, 04:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (hamstring) will participate in practice Monday, Aug. 17, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: The rookie back from Northern Iowa is a big body in the backfield, and he's got the hands to be featured as a receiver. Johnson should work as a part-time player behind Andre Ellington this year. If Ellington gets banged up, then Johnson has a good all-purpose skill set and could produce with a larger role.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson passes physical with Cards    Mon Aug 17, 04:17 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) has passed his physical with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Now that he's cleared medically, we should see Johnson work out for the team. Fantasy owners need to be locked into this situation. If added, Johnson would certainly cut into the touches for Andre Ellington.

Cardinals | David Johnson to miss more time    Sat Aug 15, 12:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (hamstring) is expected to miss at least one more week because of his hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Chris Johnson could be signed by the end of the weekend, which would be a big obstacle to the third-round pick having a big role this year. Head coach Bruce Arians has already indicated that Johnson's absence is hurting his chances to get playing time.

Cardinals | Arizona likely to add Chris Johnson    Fri Aug 14, 07:38 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) likely will sign with the Arizona Cardinals if he is able to pass his physical and the two sides reach an agreement.

Footballguys view: The Texans and Pierre Thomas couldn't agree on a deal, so it's not a sure thing that Johnson signs. This would probably hurt David Johnson more than Andre Ellington, if it hurts Ellington at all.

Cardinals | Arizona to work out Chris Johnson    Fri Aug 14, 06:50 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is scheduled to work out for the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Aug. 16. Johnson will also undergo a physical during the visit.

Footballguys view: It sounds like Johnson has decided that Arizona is an opportunity worth taking. Still, Pierre Thomas got all the way up to the point of signing and said no to the Texans offer.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd working on conditioning    Thu Aug 13, 07:37 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (fingers) worked with conditioning coach Roger Kingdom after practice Thursday, Aug. 13.

Footballguys view: Floyd is going to be out for some time, but that doesn't mean he can't stay in shape. While he's out, the Cardinals will turn to John Brown as the starter opposite Larry Fitzgerald.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington looking good    Thu Aug 13, 07:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hamstring) participated in 11-on-11 drills Thursday, Aug. 13, and looked good during the outing, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Ellington could outperform his current draft status if healthy. He's coming off the board at RB20 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington close to full speed    Thu Aug 13, 05:18 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hamstring) is close to full speed, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Ellington has good upside this year as the Cardinals starter. He was banged up all of last year, and Ellington still finished as the 21st-best fantasy running back in 2014. He could rank even higher this season.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington will play Saturday    Thu Aug 13, 02:25 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hamstring) is close to running at full speed and will be able to play in the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: A speed back like Ellington is going to be slowed down by this hamstring injury. The Cardinals would be wise to limit his touches on Saturday.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington making progress    Wed Aug 12, 08:48 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hamstring) got in some 11-on-11 work Wednesday, Aug. 12, and he impressed with his speed. Ellington is still limited, but he did say he would play Saturday, Aug. 15, although the team may decide otherwise.

Cardinals | Sean Weatherspoon suffers setback    Wed Aug 12, 02:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Sean Weatherspoon (hamstring) suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury and will be sidelined for at least one more week.

Footballguys view: Hamstring injuries are tricky to deal with, and setbacks can happen. Expect the Cardinals to be even more cautious with Weatherspoon going forward.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer will not play much Saturday    Wed Aug 12, 02:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer will play only one series in the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, no matter how many snaps it lasts, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Good! We don't need to see much from Palmer in the preseason.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald works well with Palmer    Wed Aug 12, 01:02 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald caught 80% of the passes thrown to him by QB Carson Palmer last season. He caught only 50% of the passes thrown by QBs Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley.

Footballguys view: The numbers should be no shock. Palmer is a better quarterback. So long as Palmer stays healthy, the Cardinals should be able to make a playoff push in 2015.

Cardinals | David Johnson won't play without practice    Tue Aug 11, 08:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (hamstring) won't play if he continues to miss practice time, according to head coach Bruce Arians Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have a banged up running back situation at this time, and that's why they've reached out to veteran Chris Johnson according to reports. The rookie David Johnson is a good all-purpose back (he's a fine receiver), and he should work as the primary backup behind Andre Ellington when healthy. We'll see if Chris Johnson is added to the mix and how that would shake things up.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd taking it day by day    Tue Aug 11, 07:58 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (fingers) didn't give a timetable for his return, Tuesday, Aug. 11, and he said he'd just take it day by day.

Footballguys view: Floyd is hopeful to be back for the regular-season opener. In the meantime, we'll see John Brown take his place on the outside opposite Larry Fitzgerald.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson mulling offers    Tue Aug 11, 07:32 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is still mulling an offer from the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, Aug. 11, while he's also fielding interest from other teams.

Footballguys view: What other teams? We suppose that will be revealed in the near future. Johnson has been wanting to get back in the league, and now it seems like that's going to happen. Stay tuned.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson offered deal from Cards    Tue Aug 11, 10:16 AM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) received a one-year offer from the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Aug. 10.

Footballguys view: Well, Johnson wants back in the league and the Cardinals seem to be the only team interested. The Cardinals have Andre Ellington as the starter and rookie David Johnson as the backup. Johnson would give the team veteran depth, but we can't see him starting unless there's injuries above him on the depth chart. We'll see if Johnson accepts their offer (which is likely a bare-minimum deal).

Cardinals | ARZ not interested in Ray Rice    Tue Aug 11, 10:12 AM

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) isn't of interest to the Arizona Cardinals.

Footballguys view: Rice wants to get back into the league, but teams with RB needs are not interested. We'll see if someone adds him after the regular season starts because at this time he doesn't look likely to find a new home in training camp.

Cardinals | David Johnson update    Tue Aug 11, 09:51 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (hamstring) is likely out another week with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. He hasn't practiced in full pads.

Footballguys view: It's going to be very hard for Johnson to have an early impact with this start to his summer.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson drawing Cards' interest    Tue Aug 11, 09:51 AM

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is drawing interest from the Arizona Cardinals.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals must be unhappy with the running backs after Andre Ellington on the depth chart, and possibly a little bothered by Ellington's hamstring issue. David Johnson's sleeper stock is starting to dip in redraft. Chris Johnson wants to feel assured of making the team, so he might delay on answering their offer.

Cardinals | Coach impressed with Darren Fells    Mon Aug 10, 05:04 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Darren Fells has performed well during training camp, and it will be very hard for the other tight ends to overtake him for the starting job, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Fells is at the top of the depth chart in Arizona, and it doesn't matter for fantasy owners. Even if free agent addition Jermaine Gresham moves into that top spot the Cardinals aren't going to use their tight ends that much in the passing game. Look elsewhere for TE2 depth on your fantasy team.
