Cardinals | Carson Palmer praises Bruce Arians Fri May 24, 03:39 PM
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer praised head coach Bruce Arians after organized team activities. 'I love the head coach,' Palmer said. 'I mean, I love the head coach. He keeps it real. He already has this team wrapped around his finger. And we have some talented players in this locker room.'
| Footballguys view: Palmer is built perfectly for the Arians offense. It's a downfield system which features aggressive route trees and deep passing. Palmer can still launch rockets downfield but needs time for these routes to develop. We'll see if the upgraded Cardinals O-Line protects Palmer adequately in 2013. |

Updating a previous item, Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu signed a four-year, $3.052 million deal that will come with an initial signing bonus of $265,000. The balance of the $662,500 bonus is spread over Years 2, 3 and 4. He won't receive the full payment if he's dismissed from the team for drug use.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu signed Thu May 23, 04:34 PM
The Arizona Cardinals have signed third-round draft choice FS Tyrann Mathieu to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: The 'Honey Badger' is a feisty nickel cornerback with the athleticism to stick with slot receivers underneath or down the field. He plays with an aggressive style and is always looking to make the big play. Mathieu can also make plays as a return man on special teams because of his speed, elusiveness, and quickness. |

Cardinals | Ryan Williams admits he was scared to run Thu May 23, 09:54 AM
Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams admitted he was scared to run the ball last season on his surgically repaired right knee.
| Footballguys view: Getting over an injury mentally perhaps is the biggest hurdle as players recover. Williams should feel better now that he's almost two years removed from that knee injury. He's competing with Rashard Mendenhall to be the team's starting running back. Head coach Bruce Arians has said he wants to find one back to be the team's bellcow in 2013. |
Cardinals | DEs like potential in new scheme Wed May 22, 01:33 PM
Arizona Cardinals DEs Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett have expressed optimism over their potential in Todd Bowles' defense. Though the coordinator said there isn't a dramatic difference in the new 3-4, which replaces Ray Horton's from last year, they're changing from two-gap DE attacks to one-gap, opening them up for more outside attacks on offensive linemen instead of merely taking up space.
| Footballguys view: It's important that the defense is excited about the new scheme. Former DC Ray Horton (Browns) was beloved by his players and some felt he was slighted when the team passed him over for the head coaching position. |

Cardinals | Bruce Arians critical of offense Tue May 21, 07:53 PM
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians was disappointed with his team during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21, and he singled out several players for making mental mistakes two weeks in a row. The Cardinals were ranked dead last in the league in total offense last year.

Cardinals | Jeff King had knee surgery Tue May 21, 04:29 PM
Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals TE Jeff King (knee) underwent knee surgery early in the offseason. The coaching staff hopes King can return to practice in early June.
| Footballguys view: King is competing for a spot on the TE depth chart. He'll compete with Rob Housler, Jim Dray, and rookie D.C. Jefferson during training camp. |

Cardinals | Coach high on Carson Palmer Sun May 19, 04:37 PM
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he likes the deep pass QB Carson Palmer will be able to bring to the team. 'He's tough as nails. As good a deep-ball thrower as I've ever seen. I mean really accurate on the deep ball. He still has it. What he did last year with the [Oakland Raiders], in a crazy situation, I thought was very, very impressive,' Arians said.
| Footballguys view: Arians loves QBs who can play in his vertical offense. Palmer isn't the same player he used to be but still has a strong arm to stretch the field. Questions abound about the Cardinals O-Line and whether they'll be able to protect Palmer adequately while the downfield routes develop. |

Cardinals | LaRon Byrd suffered minor injury Fri May 17, 07:24 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR LaRon Byrd (neck) suffered a neck spasm during organized team activities Tuesday, May 14, but was able to return later in the week.
| Footballguys view: Good news for Byrd here. Neck injuries are always a big concern so it's good he's getting a clean bill of health. We like Byrd in super deep dynasty leagues. He's a big receiver who can fly down the field and track the ball deep. Byrd is a perfect fit for the Bruce Arians offense. |
Cardinals | Carson Palmer wants chemistry with all WRs Wed May 15, 06:04 PM
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he wants to build chemistry with all of the wide receivers because he will not be able to throw to WR Larry Fitzgerald all the time. 'It's of the utmost importance to be on the same page with Larry, but it's of the utmost importance to be on the same page with every one of those guys because the ball can't always go to him,' Palmer said. 'I know that's not what he wants to hear, but that's the truth. There will be teams that key on him and there will be games where he doesn't have as many catches as other games. It's that much more important I have that rhythm and timing down with [WR Michael Floyd] and [WR Andre Roberts] and whoever that third and fourth guy is going to be.'
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals improved their O-Line this year and that will allow Palmer more time to throw. The Bruce Arians offense is all about downfield passing and being aggressive downfield. Larry Fitzgerald finished last year as the 42nd best fantasy WR but could finish in the top 25 this season. |

Cardinals | Daryl Washington speaks about suspension Wed May 15, 01:49 PM
Arizona Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington spoke about his tumultuous offseason and upcoming suspension, but he did not have much to say. "I really can't talk about that right now," Washington said. "I'm pretty much limited in what I got to say but I'm going to let my attorney do his job and we'll go from there."

Cardinals | Daryl Washington demoted in OTAs Wed May 15, 01:38 PM
Arizona Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington has been suspended by the NFL for four games and potentially faces another suspension for an offseason arrest. Washington came into organized team activities as a second-string linebacker behind ILB Karlos Dansby, who is likely to replace Washington for the duration of his suspension.
| Footballguys view: The move makes sense. Washington is facing at least a four game suspension to begin the season. Dansby is back with the Cardinals after spending the last three seasons in Miami. |

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald to move around Wed May 15, 12:00 AM
Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald will be lined up in different spots this year, sometimes working in the slot with WR Andre Roberts on the outside.
| Footballguys view: In the Arians offense as the Colts WR1 we saw Reggie Wayne finish as 2012's 15th best WR in fantasy football. We could see Fitzgerald bounce back this year and finish in a similar spot. Fitzgerald struggled last year because of the team's QB woes and finished as the 42nd best WR in fantasy football. |

Cardinals | Michael Floyd looking impressive Tue May 14, 11:59 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd looked impressive in the first day of organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 14. He ran with the first team more than WR Andre Roberts, who also had a good showing.
| Footballguys view: Floyd has incredible upside entering his second season in the NFL. He's got the size/speed combination to be a dangerous downfield threat and also a quality red zone target. Floyd's ADP is WR64 and he's coming off the board at the beginning of round 14. In the Arians offense he could finish the season as a top 35 WR in 2013 if he wins the WR2 job opposite Larry Fitzgerald and plays up to his potential. |

Cardinals | Karlos Dansby runs with starters Tue May 14, 11:58 PM
Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby was running with the starting unit in the first day of organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 14.

Cardinals | Offensive line changes in OTAs Tue May 14, 11:57 PM
Arizona Cardinals OG Jonathan Cooper served as the backup left guard in the first day of organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 14. OG Chilo Rachal worked with the first team, while OG Daryn Colledge worked as the starting right guard with OT Bobby Massie at right tackle. OT Nate Potter worked as the starting left tackle, as OT Levi J. Brown (triceps) continues to rehab from surgery.
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals allowed 58 sacks in 2012, highest in the league. Cardinals QBs were sacked every 11.7 dropbacks last season, the worst in the NFL. The Cardinals O-line struggled to open holes for the ground game, allowing their RBs to be hit in the backfield on 22.4 percent of rushes, also worst in the NFL. |
Cardinals | Won't Throw to RBs much Tue May 14, 09:11 PM
Darren Urban, from AZCardinals.com, notes that new Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has made plain he doesn't plan on throwing to the running backs as much.
| Footballguys view: Important note for fantasy owners here, especially those in PPR leagues. Rashard Mendenhall signed in free agency and the most receptions he's had in a season is 25. Last year (under Arians as the OC) Colts RB Vick Ballard only managed to catch 17 passes. Arians wants one RB to emerge as the feature back but may not pass to him much in 2013. |

Arizona Cardinals WR LaRon Byrd (neck) appeared to suffer a neck issue during the team's organized team activities practice Tuesday, May 14.

Cardinals | Max Starks visiting Tue May 14, 11:07 AM
The Arizona Cardinals are visiting with free-agent OT Max Starks (Steelers) Tuesday, May 14.
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals helped their interior O-Line this offseason but still have some concerns at the tackle position. Starks and new Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians know each other from their days together in Pittsburgh. |
Cardinals | Two UDFAs signed Mon May 13, 07:19 PM
The Arizona Cardinals have signed undrafted free-agent QB Caleb TerBush (Purdue) and C Adam Bice (Akron). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Cardinals | Kevin Minter signed Mon May 13, 07:13 PM
The Arizona Cardinals have signed second-round draft choice LB Kevin Minter to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: Minter was a great addition for the Cardinals in the second-round of the 2013 NFL draft. He's undersized but plays bigger than his size and has a nose for the football. Minter is athletic, has the range to play from sideline to sideline, and is known as a sound tackler. |
Cardinals | Brian Hoyer waived Mon May 13, 01:59 PM
The Arizona Cardinals have waived QB Brian Hoyer.
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals were trying to trade Hoyer earlier this offseason but were unable to do so. The team placed a second-round tender on Hoyer as a restricted free agent in order to see what they could get for him on the trade block. He's been cut three times in the last year but may get a job as a backup or camp arm before August rolls around. |

Cardinals | Four draft picks signed Fri May 10, 01:41 PM
The Arizona Cardinals have signed fifth-round draft choice RB Stepfan Taylor, sixth-round draft choices WR Ryan Swope and RB Andre Ellington, and seventh-round draft choice TE D.C. Jefferson to four-year deals. Financial terms were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: We love the upside of all these players. Taylor is a good all purpose running back who could be an effective starter if he gets the chance. Durability (concussion) concerns caused Swope to fall in the draft but if healthy he can play 'X' receiver or in the slot. Swope has a Wes Welker-like skill set. Ellington is a speed back who could be a nice change of pace player. Jefferson is known as a strong blocker but proved at the Shrine Game that he's developing as a good receiver too. |
Cardinals | Karlos Dansby signs Fri May 10, 11:32 AM
The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent LB Karlos Dansby (Dolphins) to a one-year deal.
| Footballguys view: A strong move by the Cardinals here. Dansby comes back to the desert after spending the last three years in Miami. He had a career high 134 tackles in 2012 and proved he can still play at a high level. Dansby gives the Cardinals depth at the linebacker position and insurance in case Daryl Washington is suspended longer than his current four game ban. |

Cardinals | Karlos Dansby says visit went well Thu May 9, 03:01 PM
Free-agent LB Karlos Dansby (Dolphins) said his visit with the Arizona Cardinals went well. 'Everything went great. I can see something happening,' Dansby said.
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals could use a talent like Dansby again. He played with the Cardinals from 2004-2009. Coming off a career high in tackles (134) Dansby is drawing interest from several teams and is looking for a long-term contract. |

Cardinals | DEs excited Wed May 8, 09:34 AM
Arizona Cardinals DEs Darnell Dockett and Calais Campbell are excited about defensive coordinator Todd Bowles scheme. They believe the new approach will give both ends a chance to make a difference.

Cardinals | Karlos Dansby visiting Wed May 8, 08:45 AM
The Arizona Cardinals will visit with free-agent LB Karlos Dansby (Dolphins) Wednesday, May 8.
| Footballguys view: Dansby could come back to the Cardinals because of the uncertainty surrounding Daryl Washington. 2012 was his best season with the Dolphins as Dansby finished the year with 134 total tackles and proved he could still be productive as a pro. Washington could be facing another suspension because of his recent arrest (domestic violence), but the NFL is expected to allow the legal process play out before making a decision. Washington will already miss the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the substance abuse policy. |

Cardinals | May not be interested in Joshua Cribbs anymore Mon May 6, 02:50 PM
The Arizona Cardinals may no longer be interested in free-agent WR Joshua Cribbs (knee) because he is still not recovered from offseason knee surgery, and they drafted FS Tyrann Mathieu, who can be a returner.
| Footballguys view: Cribbs has drawn little interest on the open market because teams want to see how he's recovered from offseason knee surgery. Until he's healthy and can workout for teams we won't see many inquiries about him. |

Cardinals | O-Line woes need fixed Sun May 5, 08:50 PM
The Cardinals offensive line was one of the worst units in the NFL last year. Cardinals quarterbacks were sacked once every 11.7 drop backs in 2012, the worst rate in the league. The O-Line allowed the ball carrier to be hit in the backfield on 22.4% of rushes, also worst in the NFL.
| Footballguys view: The Cardinals offensive line has undergone some much needed changes this offseason. They added Jonathan Cooper (North Carolina) in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft. Cooper rated as one of the top interior OL in the country. He's a fluid athlete with the athleticism to be a sticky blocker at the second level. If guys like Bobby Massie and Levi Brown can stay healthy then we'll see a much improved O-Line in Arizona. |

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor to compete for backup PT Thu May 2, 09:12 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor will compete for playing time this year behind RB Rashard Mendenhall. As The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers suggests, Taylor isn't a very fast running back, but he's elusive and durable. RB Ryan Williams has had serious injuries in each of the last two years.
| Footballguys view: Taylor is a quality runner and receiver out of the backfield. He's not the biggest guy but is capable running inside and can run through trash at the line of scrimmage. Taylor's not the fastest guy but has enough speed to get to the edge consistently if need be. We like his all purpose skill set but he's currently third on the depth chart in Arizona. |

Cardinals | Javier Arenas acquired Wed May 1, 01:32 PM
Updating a previous report, the Arizona Cardinals have acquired CB Javier Arenas from the Kansas City Chiefs for FB Anthony Sherman.
| Footballguys view: The secondary was crowded with the offseason additions of Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson. Arenas goes to an equally crowded (and talented) secondary in Arizona. He'll compete for snaps as a nickel corner. Arenas may not be featured much as a return man with the Cardinals as they already have Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu. |

Cardinals | Expected to trade Anthony Sherman Wed May 1, 12:19 PM
The Arizona Cardinals are expected to trade FB Anthony Sherman to the Kansas City Chiefs.
| Footballguys view: Fullback is not really a need position in the Bruce Arians offense. With the addition of Stepfan Taylor (Stanford) and Andre Ellington (Clemson) in the 2013 NFL draft the backfield in Arizona is getting a little cramped. |
Cardinals | Sedrick Ellis could be on the radar Tue Apr 30, 02:24 PM
The Arizona Cardinals could have interest in free-agent DT Sedrick Ellis (Saints). The team would like to add a defensive tackle to the roster.
| Footballguys view: Ellis hasn't drawn much interest on the open market but could find a home with the Cardinals because of their need up front. |
