Cardinals | Drew Stanton returns to practice    Thu Dec 18, 08:48 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Dec. 18. He spent a portion of practice on an exercise bike working with trainers.

Footballguys view: Stanton still won't play this weekend, and if the Cardinals lose, they will lose the division lead to the Seahawks, so it will require the Rams winning in Seattle for Week 17 to matter. The most likely scenario here is that Stanton tries to return for a road playoff game in two weeks.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has no timetable    Wed Dec 17, 07:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) said this injury is different from any other he's ever had, and he said it's too soon to know if he could return to play in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks. He hasn't had any setbacks and started jogging with a brace on his right knee this week. Stanton watched practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, and has thrown a ball recently. 'It's felt good,' Stanton said. 'It's one of those things you just go to kinda take time and the healing process is different for everybody.'

Footballguys view: The Cardinals are going to play it by ear so to speak. In the meantime, get ready for the Ryan Lindley era! The Cardinals will also have a package of plays in place for athletic rookie Logan Thomas as well.

Cooper has started the last two games in place of OG Paul Fanaika (ankle), who is expected to be available in Week 16. Head coach Bruce Arians was non-committal about which guards will start against the Seattle Seahawks after the team has posted two straight games with season highs in rushing.

Cardinals | History not on Ryan Lindley's side    Tue Dec 16, 12:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley enters the Week 16 game against the Seattle Seahawks with 181 pass attempts without a touchdown, which is the most in NFL history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Seahawks have allowed only two passing TDs and have intercepted four passes in their last five games. Lindley has the worst completion percentage (51.4), fewest yards per attempt (4.3), least amount of touchdowns (0) and lowest total QBR (9.1) among 60 quarterbacks with a minimum of 150 passing attempts since 2012, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Footballguys view: We're not expecting anything from the Cardinals offense this week.

Updating a previous report, the Arizona Cardinals re-signed RB Zach Baumann to the team's practice squad Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton could miss 2-4 weeks    Mon Dec 15, 04:45 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) could be out two to four weeks, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'Everybody's so different in how they heal,' Arians said. 'So much of it's your makeup mentally -- how bad do you want to heal? And he wants to heal up fast. We'll see.'

Footballguys view: Are you ready for the Ryan Lindley era? Yeah, the Cardinals are hurting at quarterback. Lindley has a strong arm but little accuracy. That's similar to the skill set of rookie QB Logan Thomas. While Lindley has more experience, Thomas at least has the athleticism to break away and run if need be.

Cardinals | Ryan Lindley to start in Week 16    Mon Dec 15, 02:18 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley will be the starting quarterback in Week 16, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: This headline should send chills down the spines of Cardinals fans. They're having a great season, but all of these QB injuries are likely to shorten their year. Arians said the team will also have a package for QB Logan Thomas during the game.

The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent QB Jeff Matthews (Falcons) to their practice squad Monday, Dec. 15. LB Kion Wilson was released from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Matthews is an interesting addition here. The Cornell QB is big, smart and has a rocket arm. He drew some comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger while in college, and we're monitoring him in super deep dynasty leagues.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton to return for playoffs?    Sat Dec 13, 03:59 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) is expected back for the playoffs after suffering what has been determined to be a Grade 2 MCL sprain.

Footballguys view: Stanton is an average quarterback at best, but he did okay with Arizona's weapons when he had the chance. We'll keep an eye on this for those of you playing in playoff leagues, but you will probably have better options anyway.

Cardinals | Ryan Lindley, Logan Thomas both options    Fri Dec 12, 08:43 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Logan Thomas and QB Ryan Lindley are both options to start in Week 16, but head coach Bruce Arians said Friday, Dec. 12, that he won't make a decision on a starter until Sunday, Dec. 14.

Footballguys view: Thomas has a strong arm but poor accuracy. Lindley has a strong arm but poor accuracy. Thomas is a better athlete and more dangerous as a runner. This could put him over the top in this battle. Lindley has a little more experience, so that could give him the edge. Either one is bad news for the Cardinals offense and the weapons in the passing game.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) was officially diagnosed with a sprained anterior cruciate ligament and a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain of his knee.

QB Ryan Lindley replaced Stanton in the game Thursday, Dec. 11, with Arians electing Lindley over rookie QB Logan Thomas because of Lindley's experience.

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) may have suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. He had a previous tear in the same knee.

Footballguys view: Stanton actually tore his ACL playing special teams on the punt coverage unit in college. This would be a devastating blow for a team that basically clinched a playoff spot last night, assuming Dallas and Philadelphia don't tie on Sunday night.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton struggles on road    Thu Dec 11, 07:40 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is 1-3 on the road this year, and he's thrown one touchdown and three interceptions in those games, compared to 3-0 with six touchdowns and two interceptions at home. Head coach Bruce Arians thinks the difference is the fact that it's tougher to communicate with the offense on the road with crowd noise. Eight of Stanton's 10 sacks have also come on the road.

Arizona Cardinals CB Antonio Cromartie (ankle) will play Thursday, Dec. 11, against the St. Louis Rams, according to a team official.
