Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche making strong impression    Sat May 27, 11:18 AM

Arizona Cardinals DL Robert Nkemdiche has 'changed ... for the good', according to teammate and veteran DE Frostee Rucker. Nkemdiche began showing up at the team's facility to work out shortly after the end of last season and he is among the defensive linemen getting in extra technique and conditioning work after the coaches head inside following that day's OTA.

Footballguys view: Nkemdiche has a ton of natural talent, but last year as a rookie he only made it through five games and had his work ethic called into question by head coach Bruce Arians. With DE Calais Campbell (Jaguars) leaving in free agency, the Cardinals defense need Nkemdiche to start playing up to his potential.

Arizona Cardinals S Budda Baker signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Cardinals | Jaron Brown progressing nicely    Thu May 25, 12:53 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Jaron Brown (knee) participated in a portion of OTAs on Tuesday, May 23, and Wednesday, May 24, taking part in individual drills while sitting out team activities. Brown suffered a season-ending torn ACL last October.

Cardinals | Jaron Brown taking part in drills    Wed May 24, 02:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Jaron Brown (knee) is participating in individual drills during organized team activities Wednesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: He is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in October of 2016. Jaron Brown is competing for the no3 WR job behind Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown. He should be good to go for team activities in training camp.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald to address future at camp    Tue May 23, 12:08 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said Monday, May 22, he plans on addressing his post-2017 future once during training camp and won't talk about it anymore after that.

Footballguys view: That sounds...ominous. We won't be surprised if Fitzgerald announces that 2017 is his final season in the NFL. Expect him to earn a Hall of Fame nod after he retires.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington learning new role    Sun May 21, 11:22 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Andre Ellington said the hardest part of his transition from running back to wide receiver is the change in terminology.

Footballguys view: The terminology is one thing, and the route-running is something else. Ellington was a hyper-fast/quick player as a running back, and at his new position we anticipate the team will set him up with short throws he could potentially turn into long gains. What kind of fantasy value Ellington has at wide receiver remains to be seen.

Cardinals | Arizona still believes in Troy Niklas    Sun May 21, 10:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas can still fulfill his potential if he can just stay healthy, head coach Bruce Arians said.

Footballguys view: With eight career catches in three years, the second-round pick (2014) out of Notre Dame shouldn't be seen as any sort of sleeper...even in the deepest of deep leagues.

Arizona Cardinals fourth-round draft choice OG Dorian Johnson signed his four-year contract with the Cardinals Friday, May 19. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Cardinals | Arizona signs Chad Williams    Thu May 18, 05:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chad Williams signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams performed well against lower-level competition at Grambling State, but he has talent that was on full display at the Senior Bowl earlier this year. He was heavily targeted in the Grambling offense and has crazy body control to pull in passes above his head or near the sideline. He needs work on his route-running ability, and adjusting to low passes is something else that needs attention.

Cardinals | LeGarrette Blount had offer from AZ    Wed May 17, 10:43 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount had an offer from the Arizona Cardinals before he agreed with the Eagles.

Footballguys view: With superstar David Johnson at the top of the depth chart, Blount would not have been in line for much playing time. At least with the Eagles he'll be asked to be the team's two-down thumper.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer noncommittal on future    Tue May 16, 02:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he has no idea if 2017 will be his last year in the NFL. He will evaluate himself when the season is over as he does every year.

Footballguys view: Palmer's time as a starter in the NFL is winding down as he's got a year or two left in our eyes. In 2016, Palmer passed for 4233 yards but his passing touchdown total dropped from 35 to 26. Last year, Palmer finished as the No. 16 fantasy quarterback in standard-scoring leagues. This year, fantasy owners are drafting Palmer at QB21 (13.10) and that should be fairly accurate as a projection of where he'll finish. Palmer is now more of a QB2 than he is a QB1 in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Deone Bucannon had surgery    Tue May 16, 01:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) recently underwent ankle surgery, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Bucannon's goal is to return to action by early September.

Footballguys view: Bucannon missed three games last year after suffering a high ankle sprain. This surgery was to clean up a lingering problem according to Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. With his Week 1 status in question, we could see Bucannon put on the PUP list to start the season. That would force him out the first six weeks of the regular season. After that, the Cardinals would have a three-week window to decide whether or not to activate Bucanon or put him on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Cardinals | Arizona signs Larry Clark    Mon May 15, 02:30 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Larry Clark (San Diego State) was signed by the Arizona Cardinals Monday, May 15.

Footballguys view: Clark began his career with the Aztecs, but he transferred to Colorado State-Pueblo last year. During his senior year at CSU-P, Clark caught 22 passes for 248 yards receiving and four touchdowns over the course of five games.

Cardinals | Arizona signs three more picks    Sat May 13, 04:38 PM

Arizona Cardinals fifth-round draft choice OT Will Holden, fifth-round draft choice RB T.J. Logan and sixth-round draft choice CB Johnathan Ford signed four-year contracts Saturday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Logan could be everything the team wanted WR Andre Ellington to be as a running back. The North Carolina back is compactly built and can change direction smoothly with the rock in his hands. He's not a banger between the tackles, but Logan is dangerous in space. Logan should compete for the backup/change-of-pace role behind superstar David Johnson in 2017.

Cardinals | Big things expected from Chad Williams    Fri May 12, 10:04 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Chad Williams is considered someone who can 'carry the torch' once WR Larry Fitzgerald decides to retire, according to offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin.

Footballguys view: Williams is not a burner, but he plays larger than his size (6'1") and can make dynamic catches seem routine. He needs work as a route runner and needs to add more strength to his frame, but Williams is a dynasty prospect we have eyes for.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer to rest this offseason    Fri May 12, 07:01 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer likely will not throw until the end of offseason workouts, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said the team wants to keep Palmer fresh for the regular season.

Footballguys view: That's just good sense when the backup is Blaine Gabbert. If Palmer goes down early the Cardinals are cooked so they have to keep him fresh.

Cardinals | Blaine Gabbert signing made official    Thu May 11, 02:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Blaine Gabbert officially signed to a one-year deal Thursday, May 11. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Gabbert is a "break the glass in case of dire emergency" option for the Cardinals and one they will pray to the football gods they don't have to exercise.

Cardinals | Daryl Washington released    Thu May 11, 01:55 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Daryl Washington was released Thursday, May 11. Washington was reinstated from his suspension two weeks ago and has not played in the NFL since 2013.

Footballguys view: It's been three years since Washington played a down in the NFL. His second chance could come with a team like the Raiders or the Bengals...but it's not a lock that someone will be willing to add him even though he showed great talent when playing.

Cardinals | Blaine Gabbert signing with Arizona    Wed May 10, 07:21 PM

Free-agent QB Blaine Gabbert (49ers) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, May 10, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have been linked to Gabbert for some time. He'll compete with Drew Stanton to be the primary backup behind Carson Palmer in 2017. We're not expecting him to rejuvenate his career in the desert, but having Bruce Arians tutor him could do Gabbert a world of good.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington receiving praise    Wed May 10, 12:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Andre Ellington is getting more comfortable with the nuances of being a receiver and has the fluidity and ability to run routes with the right angle and bend, according to QB Carson Palmer.

Footballguys view: Ellington is making the transition from the backfield to wide receiver in 2017. He's got the speed and the quickness to be dangerous in open space, but Ellington will need to get the nuances of running routes down before he's able to excel at his new position.

Cardinals | Arizona works out Blaine Gabbert    Mon May 8, 06:56 PM

Free-agent QB Blaine Gabbert (49ers) worked out for the Arizona Cardinals Thursday, May 4.

Footballguys view: The connection between the Cardinals and Gabbert has been there for some time. They didn't add a quarterback in the 2017 NFL draft, so perhaps they'd add Gabbert to compete with Drew Stanton to be the primary backup behind Carson Palmer.

Cardinals | Second CB job in Arizona a two-man battle    Sat May 6, 11:57 AM

Arizona Cardinals CBs Justin Bethel and Brandon Z. Williams are splitting first-team reps opposite Patrick Peterson as the team begins its offseason work. Sixth-round CB Rudy Ford (Auburn) is considered a project and was the only player added to the mix during the 2017 NFL Draft.

Cardinals | John Brown had cyst removed    Thu May 4, 05:03 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (back) had a cyst removed from his spine following the final game of last season. Brown had been dealing with a sickle cell trait last season and his production suffered because of it. After the cyst was removed, though, he was back to normal. Brown said his body has been feeling better and he's back in his normal routine and back to being himself.

Footballguys view: Hopefully this is the end of the larger issues for Brown but he has a lot of competition to crawl over to be a fantasy force.

Cardinals | Arizona adds Chad Williams    Fri Apr 28, 11:22 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected WR Chad Williams with the 98th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Williams has ability but also some red flags. Williams was charged with marijuana possession and possession of firearms after LSU campus police checked out a parked vehicle in which he sitting. He plays bigger than his size, decent hands and ball skills, but needs to work on his routes.

Cardinals | Arizona selects Budda Baker    Fri Apr 28, 07:36 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected Washington S Budda Baker with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Friday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Next to Taco, the best name in the draft. Budda Baker is a bit small and doesn't have great ball skills, but the corners around him could allow him a little flexibility in trying to learn to make plays.

Cardinals | Haason Reddick's versatility stood out    Thu Apr 27, 10:55 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Haason Reddick's versatility and flexibility wer the reasons he was selected with the 13th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft instead of Alabama LB Reuben Foster, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Reddick changed positions in college but can still step back into his old spot. Versatility is a big deal for the NFL and Bruce Arians knows he wants guys who can fit multiple roles.

Cardinals | Haason Reddick selected by Arizona    Thu Apr 27, 09:37 PM

The Arizona Cardinals selected Temple LB Haason Reddick with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Thursday, April 27.

Footballguys view: Reddick is a great story. A guy who was asked to leave Temple at one point (and not for off field nonsense) but who ended up changing positions instead. He went to the Senior Bowl and blew up, and now he's a top 15 pick. The Cardinals need more defensive help and Reddick will walk in and improve it on day one.

Cardinals | Deone Bucannon's option picked up    Wed Apr 26, 01:04 PM

The Arizona Cardinals exercised the fifth-year option for LB Deone Bucannon on Wednesday, April 26.

Footballguys view: Bucannon was one of the vanguard of the safety/linebacker tweeners that are flourishing in the new pass-happy NFL. The Cardinals lost two important safeties this offseason, so Bucannon has become that much more important even though his position designation is linebacker.

Cardinals | Daryl Washington reinstated    Tue Apr 25, 05:49 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Daryl Washington was reinstated from his suspension Tuesday, April 25. Washington had multiple violations of the NFL's substance-abuse policy and also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in March of 2014. He has not played in the NFL since 2013.

Footballguys view: Washington was once an IDP stud, but he has been away from the league for so long that it's hard to know if he'll ever even make a roster again. The pass rush/off ball versatility he provided the Cardinals is en vogue with Haason Reddick (Temple) likely to go in the mid-to-late first and Tyus Bowser (Houston) possibly sneaking into the first with similar profiles, but Washington's best football is behind.

Cardinals | Haason Reddick to meet with Cards    Wed Apr 19, 06:37 PM

Temple LB Haason Reddick is scheduled to meet with the Arizona Cardinals, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Reddick is a fine linebacker who makes plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage regularly. His size in coverage is a concern (6'1" 237 pounds), but Reddick is smart and takes few false steps on his way to the ball carrier. He's likely to be a first-round pick, and it wouldn't be a shock to see the Cardinals take him at 13th overall.

Cardinals | Arizona working out DeShone Kizer    Wed Apr 19, 06:36 PM

Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer was scheduled to work out for the Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, April 19, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Kizer is a strong-armed quarterback with the mobility to keep plays alive with his feet. He's a raw prospect, but the Cardinals might be willing to take him 13th overall in the first round so he can be groomed behind Carson Palmer.

Cardinals | Arizona meets with Davis Webb    Sun Apr 16, 09:30 PM

California QB Davis Webb recently met with the Arizona Cardinals, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals need to find a developmental future starter they can groom behind Carson Palmer this year. Webb is discussed as a first-round pick, but we see him going off the board on the second day of the draft. He's big and has a strong arm, but Webb is robotic in the way he reads the field. Arizona has the 13th overall pick, and that would likely be too high for Webb.

Cardinals | DeShone Kizer visiting Cards    Mon Apr 10, 12:53 PM

Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer is visiting the Arizona Cardinals Monday, April 10.

Footballguys view: Kizer has a big arm and he's an athletic passer who can threaten a defense with his legs. The Cardinals need to find a quarterback to groom as the heir apparent behind Carson Palmer. Kizer needs a lot of work on decision making, but he'd have time to develop if the Cards took him in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.

Cardinals | Deshaun Watson to visit Cards    Mon Apr 10, 10:58 AM

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson will visit the Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, April 12.

Footballguys view: Watson may be the best quarterback in this draft class. He shines brightest in the biggest games, and he's athletic enough to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. The Cardinals have the 13th overall pick in the first round, and Watson will be among the possibilities for that selection.

Cardinals | David Johnson embraces huge workload    Fri Apr 7, 12:30 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson did not back down from head coach Bruce Arians' recent assertion that Johnson could approach 30 touches per game in 2017.

Footballguys view: Johnson has the size to hold up to a large workload, and he's got the intent to be the team's centerpiece on offense. Fantasy owners are salivating at the chance to take Johnson at the top of drafts later this year.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams instilled as backup RB?    Tue Apr 4, 12:40 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kerwynn Williams appears to be set as the team's top backup running back behind RB David Johnson, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'I'm fine right now,' Arians said this week at the NFL's annual meeting when asked about Arizona's running-game situation. 'I think Kerwynn has proven every time he plays he gets 100 yards,' he added. 'Everybody says he's too small. He just gets 100 yards every time he steps out there.'

Footballguys view: Williams was explosive on his late-season runs and deserves a chance to replace free agent Chris Johnson as the backup in Arizona with Andre Ellington now moved to wide receiver. He might be one of the least used backups in the league, but if the starter goes down, Williams will be a relevant player in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche fully healthy    Tue Apr 4, 12:19 AM

Arizona Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche (ankle) is fully healthy now, according to head coach Bruce Arians, who said his ankle injury is 'all healed now.'

Footballguys view: Nkemdiche is responsible for a lot of the money tied up on the defensive line in Arizona now that Calais Campbell is gone, so he needs to contribute in 2017 to keep this defense from falling off sharply. He had top 10 talent, but questions about his ability to unlock it that caused him to fall to the end of the first round last year.

Cardinals | Reuben Foster meets with Arizona    Mon Apr 3, 06:11 PM

Alabama LB Reuben Foster met with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, April 3.

Footballguys view: Any team in the league could use a force like Foster. He's drawn comparisons to Ray Lewis because of his ability to intimidate on the field as a violent tackler. Foster can find the ball carrier quickly and arrives at the play with natural violence. The Cardinals have the 13th overall pick, and there's a chance that Foster is gone by the time they pick.
