Cardinals | Greatness forecast for Kyler Murray    Sun Jun 16, 02:03 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray will enjoy immediate NFL success in the opinion of teammate David Johnson. 'He's going to be great,' Johnson said Wednesday, June 12 on Sirius XM Radio. 'It's going to be scary for D-linemen. I remember I was just talking to Chandler (Jones), he has to kind of hesitate when he chases [Murray] down. ... People are really underestimating his ability to throw. He can throw dimes and he can throw the ball down the field, he's been throwing it deep to Christian (Kirk), to those guys in the OTAs... these defenses are going to have to definitely practice against a scrambler like him.'

Footballguys view: Murray has unprecedented fantasy potential with freedom as a runner and passer in a scheme that should keep defenses off balance, especially early in the season. Taking him among the top 10 quarterbacks isn't a reach.

Cardinals | Christian Kirk a quick study    Sun Jun 16, 01:10 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk is displaying a 'good feel' for the offense under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Footballguys view: Kirk has the highest ceiling of any receiver in what should be an explosive Cardinals offense. He has a chance to catch 100+ passes and become Kyler Murray's favorite in short order. Kirk should be on your short list of mid-round wide receiver targets.

Cardinals | Christian Kirk picking up offense    Fri Jun 14, 09:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk has shown a 'good feel' for the offense, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Footballguys view: Kirk should be able to thrive in the 'Air Raid' offense that Kingsbury is bringing to Arizona. The shorter passes can turn into long gains with Kirk's quickness and speed. His current ADP is WR35 (8.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | David Johnson optimistic about offense    Sat Jun 1, 06:00 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson said he optimistic about the offense head coach Kliff Kingsbury is bringing to the team. He believes he can have a similar season in 2019 than he did in 2016 when he posted more than 2,000 total yards.

Footballguys view: Having a season like 2016 would be welcome news for Fantasy GMs. Johnson was the No. 1 fantasy running back that year with over 2,000 total yards and 17 touchdowns. This offense is going to be shotgun heavy (exclusive?) and that is a bit more difficult to run out of than a traditional offense. Johnson does have a current ADP of RB6 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Pita Taumoepenu claimed    Wed May 29, 05:23 PM

Cardinals | Arizona could use shotgun formation exclusively    Sun May 26, 11:22 AM

The Arizona Cardinals could use the shotgun formation almost exclusively during the 2019 season, according to Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic, which means that QB Kyler Murray would rarely be positioned under center.

Footballguys view: Kyler Murray almost exclusively worked from out of the shotgun in college. In 2018, Murray had 372 (of 377) passing attempts out of the shotgun or the pistol. Kingsbury is bringing his 'Air Raid' offense to the NFL with Murray leading the way. With his scrambling ability and underrated talent as a passer, Murray could be a QB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2019. He's currently going off the board at QB11 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Several injured linemen practicing    Sat May 25, 02:21 PM

Arizona Cardinals OG Justin Pugh (hand, knee), C A.Q. Shipley (knee), OT Marcus Gilbert (quadriceps), OT Korey Cunningham (foot) and OG Jeremy Vujnovich (hamstring) are participating in offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Pugh, Shipley, and Gilbert are projected as starters on an offensive line that lost an inordinate number of games to injuries while limping through a very difficult season last year. Cunningham could be the team's swing tackle this year, and will be needed if still ailing starting left tackle DJ Humphries (knee) has another difficult year healthwise.

Cardinals | David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald absent    Mon May 20, 10:03 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson and WR Larry Fitzgerald were not present during practice Monday, May 20.

Footballguys view: Not a big deal here. Both are under contract, Johnson through the 2021 season and Fitzgerald on his new one-year deal, so it's not like money is a problem with either star player. It's the voluntary portion of the offseason, and these two are choosing to work on their own. They should both report for mandatory minicamp when that rolls around. Johnson is expecting to be used more under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury while Fitzgerald could thrive as an underneath receiver in the 'Air Raid' offense.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald set to rebound?    Sat May 18, 09:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald could reach 100 catches because of all the 'quick-rhythm throws' in head coach Kliff Kingsbury's offense, in the opinion of Bucky Brooks of NFL.com.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald has WR2 with upside potential in this new Cardinals offense. They were inept last year in the passing game, and Fitzgerald's numbers suffered because of it. Now, Kingsbury is going to focus on short/rhythm passing and that could mean good production for the veteran. The Cardinals have a great group of young receivers like Christian Kirk, Hakeem Butler and Andy Isabella to open things up all around Fitzgerald.

Cardinals | Dontae Strickland joins Cards    Mon May 13, 09:59 PM

Undrafted free-agent RB Dontae Strickland (Syracuse) signed with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Strickland was the second-string back for Syracuse in 2018. He had 599 rushing yards last season, with 120 of those yards coming in one game against Boston College. He also wasn't used much as a receiver out of the backfield, only snaring 15 catches in 2018. At 5'11" 204 pounds, Strickland does not stand out with speed or power. He is a determined runner and a long-shot to make the Cardinals 53-man roster.

Cardinals | Three draft picks sign deals    Fri May 10, 08:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals fifth-round draft choice S Deionte Thompson, sixth-round draft choice C Lamont Gaillard and seventh-round draft choice DE Michael Dogbe signed four-year contracts with the Cardinals Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Thompson was projected a lot higher early in the draft season, but a knee issue dropped him out of the first two days of the draft. The Cardinals will groom him to be a coverage safety. Gaillard is battle-tested from the SEC after starting for Georgia for multiple years and could be a third-day steal for Arizona.

Cardinals | Arizona signs Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler    Fri May 10, 08:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals second-round draft choice WR Andy Isabella and fourth-round draft choice WR Hakeem Butler signed four-year contracts with the Cardinals Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Isabella and Butler were drafted to be the prototype inside and outside receivers in the air raid attack. If the Cardinals and Kyler Murray's transitions are both smooth, either or both of the rookies could have fantasy relevance this year and both are exciting late first/early second round dynasty rookie picks.

Cardinals | Wes Hills, Nate Brooks sign with Cards    Fri May 10, 01:07 PM

Undrafted rookie free agents RB Wes Hills and CB Nate Brooks signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Hills is old for a rookie, but some draft analysts liked him for his bruising style. He could make the team as a third back or a practice squad player.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray officially signs    Thu May 9, 07:05 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray signed a four-year deal with a fifth-year team option for 2023 on Thursday, May 9. He will make $23.59 million as a signing bonus and will count $6.39 million against the 2019 salary cap.

Footballguys view: The no.1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft should start from day one. It's all about fit in the NFL, and Murray certainly fits Kliff Kingsbury's 'Air Raid' system. Murray has a strong arm, is incredibly athletic and not afraid to challenge a defense downfield. Lack of size is a concern in terms of body armor. He's short, but he's not that big so longevity is a legit concern. Murray has QB1 upside for Fantasy GMs, with a current ADP of QB14 (10.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | ARI inks several rookies    Thu May 9, 07:00 PM

Cardinals | New role for Christian Kirk?    Fri May 3, 11:29 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk could be used as 'a bubble screen guy where you get it in his hands' in the mold of Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen, according to one NFL executive.

Footballguys view: Kirk broke his foot last December but has had no setbacks in his recovery. We're excited to see Kliff Kingsbury's 'Air Raid' system and how Kirk fits in. As a rookie in 2018, Kirk snared 43 catches for 690 yards and three receiving touchdowns. This season, Kirk is going off the board at WR65 (14.11) in 12-team PPR leagues. If he's a 'bubble screen guy' in that offense, Kirk could outperform that average draft position.

Cardinals | Maxx Williams lands 1-year deal    Fri May 3, 12:51 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Maxx Williams (Ravens) signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, May 3. Further terms of the deal were not available.

Footballguys view: Williams has always had potential as a pass-catching weapon for an offense, but his pro career has been disappointing due to injury and inconsistency. The Cardinals should fill the air with footballs in Kliff Kingsbury's 'Air Raid' system, but that's also an offense (in college) that doesn't feature tight ends. We'll see how Williams fits into the scheme in 2019.

Cardinals | Maxx Williams headed to the desert    Thu May 2, 05:34 PM

Free-agent TE Maxx Williams (Ravens) signed an undisclosed contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, May 2.

Footballguys view: Williams failed to live up to his potential with the Ravens, having his career knocked off track by injury and inconsistency. He's big and athletic, so the skill set is still there for him to be a decent pro. We'll see if the fresh start in Arizona helps Williams.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray to start opener    Thu May 2, 03:31 PM

Arizona Cardinals first-round QB Kyler Murray will be the team's Week 1 starter against the Detroit Lions, according to general manager Steve Keim.

Footballguys view: Just like everyone expected. The Cardinals made Murray the no.1 overall pick because of his fit in the 'Air Raid' system that new head coach Kliff Kingsbury is bringing to the desert. Fantasy GMs might want to take a flier on Murray as a QB2 with upside as rushing quarterbacks like Murray always have more value even if they're somewhat limited as a passer (see QB1 Tim Tebow).

Cardinals | KeeSean Johnson praised for route running    Mon Apr 29, 11:24 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR KeeSean Johnson was praised for his route running by Cardinals general manager Steve Keim. 'The one thing that jumped out at me about this young man as I watched the tape, he's one of the better natural route runners I saw in this draft process,' Keim said. 'I'm talking about a guy who can drop his weight, who's really good getting in and out of routes, is extremely smooth. His positional versatility and his playmaking ability jumped off the tape for us.'

Footballguys view: Johnson's route running has always been known as a positive. He may not be fast enough to play on the outside, and some scouts believe Johnson may not be quick enough to play on the inside. We like him in deep dynasty because of his route running and ball skills.

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 62nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Dolphins also acquired a 2020 fifth-round draft choice in the trade.

Footballguys view: Rosen should start sooner than later. This is a tremendous deal for Miami with the Cardinals eating Rosen's signing bonus. He'll make less than most backup quarterbacks. Ryan Fitzpatrick is back to being a bridge starter. He might not even start Week 1.
