Falcons | Met with Xavier Grimble Sun Apr 20, 10:57 AM
The Atlanta Falcons met Southern California TE Xavier Grimble.
|Footballguys view: Grimble was a three-year starter at USC, but upon his exit of the program he blamed former head coach Lane Kiffin for his lack of a role on offense. He's not a move tight end, but he does have the strength and size to help out as an in-line tight end. The Falcons have a need at the position after losing Tony Gonzalez to retirement.|

The Atlanta Falcons are scheduled to meet with Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews at some point next week.

Falcons | Terrence West to visit Wed Apr 16, 04:49 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are scheduled to meet with Towson RB Terrence West Wednesday, April 23. The team also reportedly conducted a private workout with West.
|Footballguys view: West is a power back who can run in the 4.5s. He lacks vision, but West keeps his legs moving after contact and has a nose for the red zone. The Falcons are looking for a young running back behind Steven Jackson to groom into an eventual starter.|
Falcons | Terrance West to visit Wed Apr 16, 03:05 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are scheduled to visit with Townson RB Terrance West Wednesday, April 23.

Falcons | May have interest in Chris Johnson Wed Apr 16, 01:39 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are believed to have some interest in free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans).
|Footballguys view: We've heard this before, and it's an interesting combination to say the least. The Falcons already have Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers as their two primary backs. Adding Johnson would certainly cut into Jackson's touches, and it would almost eliminate Rodgers from the gameplan.|

Falcons | Dee Ford to visit Tue Apr 15, 10:46 AM
The Atlanta Falcons will visit with Auburn OLB/DE Dee Ford this week.
|Footballguys view: Ford could help boost the Falcons' pass rush in 2014. He's a bit undersized, but like Elvis Dumervil (Ravens), Ford uses that to his advantage. He can dip under larger tackles and he has the closing burst to get to the quarterback in a hurry. Ford should be a late first- or early second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.|

Falcons | Anthony Barr to visit Fri Apr 11, 11:06 PM
The Atlanta Falcons will meet with UCLA LB Anthony Barr in two weeks.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons need to add their their pass-rushers, and Barr would be a great answer in the first round. Barr has the strength and length to get to the quarterback in a hurry. He has good athleticism, and Barr can be asked to drop back and cover if need be.|
Falcons | Will meet with Kyle Van Noy Fri Apr 11, 10:55 PM
The Atlanta Falcons will meet with Brigham Young LB Kyle Van Noy Wednesday, April 16.
|Footballguys view: Van Noy could be an option for the Falcons in the second round (if he's on the board). He's a high-motor athlete with a good nose for the football. Van Noy has high football intelligence, and he can quickly diagnose plays as they unfold in front of him.|

The Atlanta Falcons hosted Minnesota DT Ra'Shede Hageman for a visit.
|Footballguys view: While there are plenty of first round projections for Hageman, some still feel he might drop into the second, which means the Falcons could have a shot at him. They could use some more help stuffing the run and Hageman can also get into the backfield to disrupt passes.|

Falcons | Not serious players for Chris Johnson Tue Apr 8, 11:21 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to be serious players for free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans), as their secondary is a more pressing concern than running back.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons may have once had more interest in Johnson, but that seems to have cooled off now. He would have been an odd fit for the Falcons with Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers already in the fold.|

Falcons | Work out Greg Jones Tue Apr 8, 05:00 PM
The Atlanta Falcons worked out free-agent FB Greg Jones (Texans) Tuesday, April 8.
|Footballguys view: Jason Snelling retired, so Jones could be in the mix. He'd be an upgrade as a lead blocker, once very coveted by Maurice Jones-Drew as his escort through the hole.|

Falcons | To meet with Terrance West Mon Apr 7, 11:24 PM
The Atlanta Falcons have a scheduled visit set up with Towson RB Terrance West.
|Footballguys view: West could be groomed as an eventual feature back behind Steven Jackson. He's got the size to be dominant between the tackles, but he's fast enough to make the edge at the second level. West can also catch out of the backfield. The Falcons could have interest in the second or third round.|

Falcons | Khalil Mack working out Wed Apr 2, 03:45 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are working out Buffalo LB Khalil Mack Wednesday, April 2.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons need all the pass-rush help they can get. If they don't move up in the draft to select DE Jadaveon Clowney (South Carolina), then Mack could be an option. Mack is a swift pass-rusher who dominated in the MAC. He has a nose for the football, and Mack can track down plays that go away from him quickly. He's also athletic enough to get by in coverage.|
Falcons | Will work out Jadeveon Clowney Wed Apr 2, 12:39 PM
South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney said he has a workout scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons may move up in the draft to add Clowney. He'd instantly be their best pass-rusher and upgrade the defense. The Falcons currently have the 6th overall pick, but could get up to number two overall to secure Clowney's services.|

Falcons | Mike Smith believes in Steven Jackson Fri Mar 28, 02:08 PM
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is optimistic that RB Steven Jackson will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in which he played in only 12 games due to a hamstring injury and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. Jackson finished the year with six touchdowns in the final six games, however. Atlanta uses a committee at running back with Jackson and RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.
|Footballguys view: The way Jackson finished the season should give fantasy owners some hope. Jackson's not the same player he used to be, but he's not washed up either.|

University California-Los Angeles LB Anthony Barr will reportedly work out for the Atlanta Falcons before the end of the month, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Barr is projected as a top-10 pick in this year's draft.
|Footballguys view: Barr is considered a top prospect at outside linebacker this year. He's a great pass-rusher, and Barr can bend around the edge without losing much speed. Barr also has multiple moves to get after the quarterback.|
Falcons | Devin Hester to be used creatively Thu Mar 20, 04:49 PM
The Atlanta Falcons plan to use WR Devin Hester in 'creative ways' this season. He played both wide receiver and defensive back in his time with the Chicago Bears, although he didn't play receiver last season.
|Footballguys view: All this means is they may give him the odd end-around and occasionally try to use him for gimmick plays. The simple truth is Hester isn't a good receiver and spending too many plays trying to prove otherwise is a waste of everyone's time.|

Falcons | Agree to terms with Devin Hester Thu Mar 20, 03:20 PM
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with WR Devin Hester (Bears) on a three-year contract Thursday, March 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Rumor has it that Hester will have an offensive role which is baffling considering how bad he was as a wide receiver. But while he's not as good returning kicks as he used to be, he is still one of the best and this will help improve the Falcons field position.|

Falcons | Agree to terms with Peria Jerry Wed Mar 19, 09:01 PM
The Atlanta Falcons and free-agent DT Peria Jerry (Falcons) agreed to terms Wednesday, March 19. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons made Jerry a first-round pick in 2009, and he hasn't really played up to his full potential as a pro. Now that he's staying in Atlanta, we'll see him compete for a backup spot on the defensive line.|
