Falcons | Austin Hooper needs consistency    Sun Jul 15, 10:11 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper's position coach, Wade Harman, has 'harped' on him about being more consistent this season, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Hooper saw plenty of targets (65) last year but only had two games with more than 50 yards receiving in 2017. In fact, from Week 11 on Hooper was only good for two or three catches per game even though he was getting around 50 snaps regularly. We'll see if Harman's coaching will improve the consistency Hooper plays with this season.

Falcons | Deadrin Senat may be part of rotation    Sun Jul 15, 07:44 PM

Atlanta Falcons DT Deadrin Senat could be part of a defensive line rotation this season and will compete for playing time during training camp.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of South Florida in the 2018 NFL draft, Senat is your classic two-down run stuffing defensive tackle. He's difficult to move when planted at the line of scrimmage, measuring in at 6'0" 315 pounds. Senat can anchor in the middle, play a high number of snaps if needed and actually has some pursuit skill that you don't normally see from a man his size.

Falcons | Eric Saubert may have bigger role    Sun Jul 15, 07:29 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Eric Saubert likely will be expected to do more on offense this season. He could push for the No. 2 tight end job during training camp.

Footballguys view: We've been monitoring Saubert in super deep dynasty leagues since he came out of Drake as a fifth-round pick in 2017. He's a talented move tight end with good hands, concentration and body control. His blocking ability is a work in progress, so he'll be working for snaps/targets behind Austin Hooper in 2018.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley ready to contribute     Thu Jul 12, 11:45 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley will have the opportunity to 'make an immediate impact,' according to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, and Teope believes Ridley will take advantage of single coverage from opposing defenses.

Footballguys view: Ridley will provide the best vertical threat among the Falcons receivers, but he's also a great route runner. He was the most pro-ready of the top receivers in the draft and he has a good chance to be the most valuable rookie receiver in redraft leagues. He's worth a bench spot and could be part of a resurgent Atlanta offense in the second year under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley inks deal    Wed Jul 4, 01:14 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley signed his four-year rookie contract Wednesday, July 4. As is the case with every first-round pick he will have team option for a fifth year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ridley has crazy ability, but with Julio Jones across the field from him his Target amount should be limited. That said Jones will also draw the bulk of the attention, so Ridley will have room to work with. All that being said, we wouldn't recommend pulling the trigger on him earlier than his current ADP as 51st receiver off the board. He has some nice upside, but it can be dangerous to rely on rookie wide receivers.

Falcons | Devin Fuller sent packing    Fri Jun 29, 04:21 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Devin Fuller was waived Friday, June 29.

Footballguys view: A seventh-round pick out of UCLA in the 2016 NFL draft, Fuller never saw the field in two years with the Falcons. He missed all of the 2017 season due to a torn ACL. Almost a year removed from that injury, some team may give him a shot due to his speed (4.3 40-yard dash).

Falcons | Ricardo Allen expected to be extended    Mon Jun 25, 03:11 PM

Atlanta Falcons FS Ricardo Allen is expected to receive a contract extension before the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Allen has been a key piece of the Falcons defense over the last couple of years. The restricted free agent should be able to find common ground with the Falcons.

Falcons | Ron Parker receives one-year deal    Mon Jun 25, 01:08 PM

Falcons | Big year for Austin Hooper?    Sun Jun 24, 11:06 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper 'should continue to ascend' in his second season in offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian's system, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com.

Footballguys view: Hooper is getting better as his pro career continues. Entering his third season with the Falcons, Hooper could produce like a TE2 for fantasy owners if he plays up to his full potential.

Falcons | Julio Jones expected for Matt Ryan's training    Wed Jun 20, 07:55 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to be joining his teammates for QB Matt Ryan's annual passing camp that he will be holding in July. 'There's probably about 12 (Falcons players) that are going to get together,' Ryan said. 'And (Jones) will certainly be a part of that.'

Falcons | Calvin Ridley making impression    Wed Jun 20, 11:44 AM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley is already having an impact on his teammates, particularly his defensive teammates. S Ricardo Allen credited Ridley for being a disciplined route-runner and moving like a veteran. 'I just want to see when he becomes a veteran how much better a player he's going to be,' Allen said.

Footballguys view: Ridley was arguably the best wide receiver in the 2018 NFL draft, and he often draws comparisons to Hall of Fame WR Marvin Harrison. Like Harrison, Ridley is a fantastic route runner who does not tip off where he's going and then explodes out of his break. Ridley should be a welcome addition to an offense that sputtered last year in the red zone. Opposite of Julio Jones, Ridley should be able to take advantage of single coverage each week. Fantasy owners are drafting Ridley at WR45 (10.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Falcons | OC on the hot seat?    Wed Jun 20, 09:31 AM

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian could be on the hot seat entering the 2018 campaign. The Falcons brought in Greg Knapp to work with the quarterbacks and also assist on the offensive game plan.

Footballguys view: The Falcons offense was painfully average last year in Sarkisian's first season of running the offense. They were 15th in the league with 22.06 points scored per game, and the Falcons scored 187 fewer points than they did with Kyle Shanahan running the show in 2016. The Falcons official website reported earlier this month that Sarkisian said he is more comfortable heading into his second season.

Falcons | Eric Saubert showing off his hands    Fri Jun 15, 12:55 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Eric Saubert did 'a nice job' catching the ball during offseason workouts and could push for a meaningful role after playing only 31 offensive snaps last season, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure.

Footballguys view: Saubert is a great dynasty sleeper we love to roster in super deep TE-premium leagues. He's got incredible concentration and has the body control to make difficult catches. He's competing with Logan Paulsen for snaps behind starter Austin Hooper in 2018.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley adjusting well    Thu Jun 14, 11:13 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley has impressed head coach Dan Quinn with his performance in OTAs, particularly his football IQ.

Footballguys view: Ridley is an exciting rookie wide receiver who gives the Falcons yet another Alabama weapon at wideout (like Julio Jones). He's known for being a quick study and a fantastic route runner. Ridley may not be Marvin Harrison in terms of getting open with his technique, but the fact that he's sometimes compared to the Hall of Fame WR shows what kind of natural talent could be there.

Falcons | Atlanta re-signs Terrence Magee    Wed Jun 13, 02:04 PM

Free-agent RB Terrence Magee (Falcons) was re-signed by the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday, June 13. RB Demario Richard was waived in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of LSU in 2015, Magee has bounced around to five different teams during his short time in the NFL. Magee is a natural runner but he lacks an outstanding trait to stick on a 53-man roster. He'll compete with 2018 fourth-round pick Ito Smith to be the third-string back behind Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman.

Falcons | No minicamp for Julio Jones    Mon Jun 11, 05:13 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones will not attend mandatory minicamp this week.

Footballguys view: Jones is holding out for more money, as he's currently ranked as the 8th-highest paid WR in the NFL. The Falcons released a statement that said the following. "We have been in contact with Julio and his representation. We will not discuss those conversations publicly except to say we feel they have been productive and constructive. We understand the concerns and thoughts from their perspective. Although not ideal, Julio informed us today he would not be attending mini-camp."

Falcons | Devonta Freeman running smarter    Sun Jun 10, 11:41 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has been working with running backs coach Bernie Parmalee on 'getting skinny' when he finishes runs to help reduce the hits he takes and stay healthier over the course of the season.

Footballguys view: It's basically shrinking the surface area that defenders can hit when running between the tackles. Freeman was 23rd in the NFL last year with 315 rushing yards after contact. His yards-after-first-contact-per-rush average of 1.61 yards is well below the league average (1.86) and ranked 37th in the NFL in 2017. With Parmalee's guidance, perhaps Freeman can increase those numbers this season.

Falcons | Atlanta adds Taj Williams     Mon Jun 4, 01:33 PM

Free-agent WR Taj Williams (Seahawks) signed with the Atlanta Falcons Monday, June 4. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived TE Jake Roh.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of TCU in 2018, Williams has an intriguing size/speed combination. Measuring in at 6'4" 193 pounds, Williams presents a large catch radius on the field and knows how to find the soft spot in a zone. His routes need work as Williams is incredibly raw at the position. We'll monitor him, but only in super deep dynasty leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman taking part in OTAs    Sun Jun 3, 05:15 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was able to participate in OTAs last month.

Footballguys view: We'll see the team use both Freeman and Tevin Coleman in a RBBC once again this season. From a fantasy perspective, Freeman is a low-end RB1 with a current ADP of RB12 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues. He suffered MCL and PCL sprains toward the end of last season but did not need surgery.

Falcons | Jaeden Graham inks deal with Atlanta    Fri Jun 1, 02:28 PM

The Atlanta Falcons signed undrafted free-agent TE Jaeden Graham to an undisclosed contract Friday, June 1. DT Joey Ivie was waived with an injury settlement in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Graham is a converted linebacker with only one year of experience at tight end. At 6'4"250 pounds he makes for an intriguing prospect, but a developmental one, at the position.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman to be utilized more    Wed May 30, 06:50 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman said the team 'wants' to use him more, like line him up out wide and 'stuff like that.' Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed this, adding how they want to get both running backs 'really involved' in the passing game. He also thought Coleman made a 'big jump' last season.

Footballguys view: That is great news for fantasy owners and for Coleman as he's in the final year of his contract. He could be used more as a receiver (only 27 receptions in 2017) and Coleman could score near double-digit touchdowns this season. He's RB27 (6.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Falcons | Julio Jones mending fences?    Sun May 27, 09:36 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones said there is 'no bad blood' between he and the organization, and he has simply been working on his own instead of attending OTAs. 'I'm not going nowhere, man,' Jones said. 'I love the team.'

Footballguys view: Jones created a frenzy when he removed all references to the Falcons on social networking platforms about a month ago. It's all good, and Jones is just looking for a 'correction' to his current contract situation. He's got a $12.9 million cap hit in 2018, and that number ranks 7th in the league this season.

Falcons | Julio Jones will be at minicamp    Tue May 22, 03:10 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to be present at minicamp after skipping organized team activities, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: OTAs are voluntary, and Jones is seeking a 'correction' to his current contract situation. Minicamp is mandatory, and that is the time when Jones will show up. A superstar and centerpiece of their passing game, the Falcons should be willing to work with Jones even though he has three years remaining on his current deal.

Falcons | Julio Jones misses workout    Mon May 21, 01:19 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones was not present for organized team activities Monday, May 21, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Signed through the 2020 season, Jones is reportedly seeking an 'update' to his contract status. He's the centerpiece of the Falcons passing game, so we could see the team work to get their superstar more money. Jones is on the books for $10.5 million in 2018.

Falcons | Julio Jones wants contract update    Fri May 18, 10:22 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is not expected to participate in organized team activities in part because he wants the team to update his contract.

Footballguys view: We should see the Falcons move to get something done with the superstar receiver. He's got three years left on his deal and doesn't hit free agency until 2021. Jones has been in regular contact with head coach Dan Quinn and the team is open to updating Jones' contract. Jones is scheduled to make $10.5 million in 2018.

Falcons | Julio Jones not expected at workouts    Fri May 18, 04:48 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is not expected to report for organized team activities next week, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jones not attending could actually be good for the Falcons. Hear us out. This will give Matt Ryan more time with rookie Calvin Ridley, which can only pay off when the regular season starts. They'll have some extra time to build chemistry.

Falcons | Terrence Magee waived    Tue May 15, 04:10 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Terrence Magee was waived Tuesday, May 15. Free-agent DB Jason Hall (Seahawks) was signed in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Magee has bounced around to a few different teams as a pro. In three years he only has five career carries...and he may find it difficult to latch on with another team now that he's on the open market.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley getting work all over the field    Sun May 13, 02:20 PM

Atlanta Falcons first-round WR Calvin Ridley lined up in the slot as well as outside during rookie minicamp Saturday, May 12. Ridley is also under consideration to return kickoffs and punts, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Footballguys view: Ridley has the route-running ability to line up anywhere on the field. He knows how to set defenders up before making his break, and Ridley can accelerate past corners once the rock is in his hands. We're excited to see what the rookie from Alabama could do, especially with Julio Jones drawing so much coverage away. Ridley has a current ADP of WR47 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Falcons | Austin Hooper has been working with QB    Thu May 10, 03:26 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper has been working with QB Matt Ryan this offseason in hopes of building better chemistry with Ryan.

Footballguys view: Hooper doubled his reception and yardage totals in 2017, and the third-year player is hoping for a more significant role in the offense. With rookie WR Calvin Ridley joining the team though, Hooper's prospects for that take a bit of a hit. Too many mouths, not enough to eat is the biggest problem, though his struggles to stretch the field hurt as well.

Falcons | Atlanta signs four rookies    Wed May 9, 03:23 PM

Atlanta Falcons CB Isaiah Oliver, RB Ito Smith, WR Russell Gage jr. and LB Foyesade Oluokun signed their four-year rookie contracts Wednesday, May 9.

Footballguys view: Smith is a bit undersized for a running back at 5'9" 201 pounds, but he's got natural hands and can relied upon as a receiving option out of the backfield. Gage is at least going to be a special teams contributor at the pro level, but he's got the athleticism and competitiveness to contribute as a slot receiver in the future if he better rounds out that part of his game.

Falcons | Matt Ryan getting paid in 2018    Fri May 4, 10:11 AM

Updating previous reports, Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan will make $52.5 million in 2018, due in large part, to a $46.5 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: Ryan will become the first NFL quarterback to cross the $30 million annually threshold. Don't be too shocked, this is going to be the norm for franchise quarterbacks going forward. The Falcons have helped him greatly this offseason by adding top WR Calvin Ridley in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Falcons | Matt Ryan agrees to extension    Thu May 3, 04:08 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Falcons Thursday, May 3, that will make him the first quarterback to make $30 million per season, according to sources. The deal includes $100 million in guaranteed money.

Footballguys view: Well, that was expensive, but after Kirk Cousins got his money, also expected. The Packers now face the same situation with Aaron Rodgers. As for the Falcons, the way they have structured the deal will impact the rest of the team -- after all, there's only so much money to go around. For fantasy owners, Ryan has new weapons around him (hello WR Calvin Ridley!) and should post his usual QB1 numbers in 2018.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) is able to run and cut now in his rehab from ligament damage in his knee.
