Falcons | Keanu Neal fills important role    Thu Apr 28, 10:38 PM

Atlanta Falcons FS Keanu Neal's ability to close and cover tight ends are some of the reasons head coach Dan Quinn believes he can handle the unqiue role a strong safety plays in his defensive system.

Footballguys view: He's got a lot to offer this defense, and the fact that he can both hit hard to set the tone on defense as well as cover is a big help in this division.

Falcons | Keanu Neal to Falcons at No. 17    Thu Apr 28, 10:07 PM

The Atlanta Falcons selected Florida FS Keanu Neal with the 17th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: The Jets were trying to move up, but Atlanta got their guy. Expected to be a second round pick, Neal is a big hitter who will bring some physicality to the defense.

Falcons | Atlanta trying to move up in draft    Thu Apr 28, 09:58 PM

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has been calling teams to try to move up in the 2016 NFL draft. The Falcons currently own the 17th pick in the first round.

Footballguys view: The Falcons wanted Keanu Neal and were worried the Jets would leapfrog them, which was what New York was trying to do.

Falcons | Atlanta likes Clemons linemen     Wed Apr 27, 04:43 PM

Clemson Des Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd could be options for the Atlanta Falcons with their No. 17 overall pick. The consensus of pundits has the Falcons taking Ohio State LB Darron Lee with that pick, however.

Footballguys view: The Falcons will look defense in almost any scenario. Lee would add a lot of speed to their linebacking corps, while Lawson and Dodd would be instant additions of pass rush punch and stout run defense from the edge.

Falcons | Re-sign Chris Chester     Wed Apr 20, 04:13 PM

Atlanta Falcons OG Chris Chester re-signed to a one-year deal Wednesday, April 20, worth a maximum of $2.8 million, according to a source. Chester is coming off offseason shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for offseason activities in June.

Footballguys view: Chester played all 16 games at right guard for the Falcons, and will help keep some continuity on the line, which has also added Alex Mack in the offseason. Chester had shoulder surgery in January, but should be ready for the start of the season.

Falcons | Matt Ryan still confident in offense    Tue Apr 19, 06:42 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan admitted Tuesday, April 19, that he took too long at times to process offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's scheme in 2015. Ryan said he is excited to have Shanahan back for another season. 'As you're in a system more, you start focusing on the things that are important,' Ryan said. 'What you're going against defensively, what your keys are in protection, what you're looking for from a coverage standpoint.' Ryan also said that he thought all the players involved in a recent passing camp felt more comfortable with the offense, adding that he could tell early on that they were a lot further along than at certain points midway through last season.

Footballguys view: We should see greater results from the Falcons offense in year two of the Shanahan offense. With a healthy Tevin Coleman and a new WR2 in Mohamed Sanu, the Falcons should be able to move the ball with more efficiency in 2016.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman among breakout candidates    Sun Apr 17, 09:15 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman, WR Justin Hardy, LB, Vic Beasley, DT Grady Jarrett, CB Jalen Collins and FS Robenson Therezie are the six players head coach Dan Quinn is counting on to elevate their games in 2016.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to remember that Coleman began the 2015 season as the starter ahead of Devonta Freeman. This season, Freeman should be the lead back but Coleman is too talented to keep on the sideline. That's why the Falcons could use a RBBC with a near 50/50 split--directly impacting both RBs fantasy value.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu is among a group of Falcons working together in Florida. QB Matt Ryan, RB Devonta Freeman and WR Julio Jones are also among the group of players, as reported earlier.

Footballguys view: Good news here. Sanu needs to get used to the timing with Ryan, and these offseason workouts should help.

Falcons | Matt Ryan throwing with teammates    Tue Mar 29, 05:07 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is getting together with WR Julio Jones, RB Devonta Freeman and other Falcons for passing sessions this offseason.

Footballguys view: It's that time of year again. Certain teammates will be getting together away from the team facility to get extra time in before OTAs and minicamp start. It's unclear whether or not new WR Mohamed Sanu is joining Ryan and company in these workouts.

Free-agent LB O'Brien Schofield (Falcons) has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Atlanta Falcons but knows he may not have a significant role with the team after they signed LB Courtney Upshaw.

Falcons | Justin Hardy in line for No. 3 job    Tue Mar 22, 12:48 AM

Atlanta Falcons WR Justin Hardy can be the No. 3 wide receiver in 2016, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick out of East Carolina last year, Hardy knows how to move the chains. Over 70 percent of his catches as a senior resulted in first downs, and Hardy is fearless when running routes over the middle. He'll compete for the slot receiver job behind Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu to be No. 2 WR    Tue Mar 22, 12:36 AM

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu will take over the No. 2 wideout job opposite WR Julio Jones. 'Sanu is a legitimate No. 2 for us, is a great compliment to Julio Jones,' general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a satellite radio interview Monday, March 21.

Footballguys view: That's why the Falcons picked up Sanu in free agency. He had a career-high 790 yards receiving in 2014, and Sanu may be able to post even better numbers with his new team in 2016.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu wasn't targeted often    Thu Mar 10, 03:39 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu was targeted on just 50 of the 383 routes he ran last year with the Cincinnati Bengals (13%), which was the fourth-lowest percentage in the NFL out of 133 players with at least 50 targets.

Footballguys view: Part of that was his struggle to get open and hold onto the ball as well as dealing with an injury. He's going to have to prove to Matt Ryan he can overcome all that if he is to really produce numbers in Atlanta.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu terms    Thu Mar 10, 02:36 PM

Updating earlier reports, Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu agreed to a five-year, $32.5 million deal with $14 million fully guaranteed, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With Julio Jones across from him, Sanu has a chance to do some damage. Still, he's been inconsistent and we need to see that stop before we get too excited. We're hoping he can do so and if he can, WR3 fantasy value is not out of the question.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu lands five years    Thu Mar 10, 02:30 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu agreed to a five-year deal with the Falcons, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sanu will have a shot at the No. 2 spot across from Julio Jones and might have the chops to take advantage of the defensive preoccupation with Jones. Sanu has been streaky and dropped more than his fair share of passes, but we could see him as a decent WR3 fantasy player if he can pull it together.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu to sign with Atlanta    Wed Mar 9, 05:41 PM

Updating previous reports, free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu (Bengals) is visiting Atlanta to officially sign a deal worth $7 million per year with the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: Sanu gives the team a run-after-the-catch threat who can line up opposite Julio Jones. From a fantasy lens, we're not crazy about this landing spot for Sanu. However, he could churn out some flex value in certain matchups this season.

Footballguys view: Without Roddy White, the Falcons need to find a true threat opposite Julio Jones. Benjamin proved last year that he could be more than a speed receiver. We're excited about the potential he could have in the Falcons offense.
