Falcons | Mohamed Sanu focused    Fri Jun 21, 11:33 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu has come into the offseason workouts in excellent shape, according to head coach Dan Quinn, and Quinn believes Sanu is ready to take his game to the 'next level' in 2019.

Footballguys view: Calvin Ridley and Austin Hooper are also getting into their prime years and Dirk Koetter is back as offensive coordinator after he helped author some of the best pre-Kyle Shanahan seasons Matt Ryan had. The Falcons should be a top offense and create a few fantasy overachievers this year.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman all the way back    Fri Jun 21, 10:47 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (groin) looks 'so much like himself' this offseason, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: Freeman will be a value if he returns to form after two injury-riddled seasons. Tevin Coleman is gone, so Freeman has an even higher ceiling than he did last year, when he was going ahead of his current ADP.

Falcons | Julio Jones nearing long-term extension?    Tue Jun 18, 01:54 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones will have a long-term contract extension before training camp arrives, according to 'confident' team sources.

Footballguys view: Jones is actually signed through the 2020 season but the Falcons aren't likely to make him wait much longer. The veteran superstar wideout attended mandatory minicamp in a good faith move. The team should make him one of the highest paid wide receiver in the league -- again -- with this new deal.

Falcons | Deion Jones to sit out drills    Mon Jun 10, 08:41 PM

Atlanta Falcons LB Deion Jones (foot) will not participate in drills during training camp because of a foot injury, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Falcons | Julio Jones will not practice    Mon Jun 10, 08:34 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) will not participate in drills during mandatory minicamp because of a foot injury, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: Jones played a full 16-game season in 2018 but he was bothered by a foot injury late in the year. The team doesn't need to push Jones as he's a seasoned veteran and a superstar talent. Jones wants a new contract even though he still has two years remaining on his deal and that's why he stayed away from voluntary offseason workouts. When mandatory minicamp began this week, Jones showed up at the facility...and won't do much while he's there.

Falcons | Four Falcons in attendance    Mon Jun 10, 10:14 AM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, DT Grady Jarrett, LB Vic Beasley and LB Deion Jones reported to mandatory minicamp Monday, June 10, after they skipped voluntary organized team activities.

Footballguys view: The work is mandatory, so nobody wants to get fined. Jones is expected to get his contract restructured in the near future, even though he still has a couple of years remaining on his deal. We're expecting something to get done before Week 1 of the regular season.

Falcons | Keanu Neal back on the field    Sat Jun 8, 07:47 PM

Atlanta Falcons SS Keanu Neal (knee) participated in mostly individual drills during practice Thursday, June 6.

Footballguys view: Neal's return will be a big deal for the Falcons defense and IDP teams. The Falcons had a lot of problems with injuries at safety last year, so the pass defense should improve if they can have better luck this year.

Falcons | Austin Hooper not at practice    Thu Jun 6, 09:25 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (undisclosed) did not practice Thursday, June 6.

Footballguys view: Falcons coach Dan Quinn would not elaborate on why Hooper was out of action. He did indicate that would be revealed next week. Stay tuned.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley resting foot    Thu Jun 6, 09:22 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley (foot) sat out practice Thursday, June 6, with a sore foot.

Footballguys view: A sore foot could be nothing and it could be something more. We'll just have to wait and see if Ridley can get back out there for minicamp. They do have mandatory minicamp coming up June 11th through 13th.

Falcons | Julio Jones expected at minicamp    Wed Jun 5, 07:30 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to participate in minicamp next week, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: Extension talks with Jones are going well, but no deal is done yet. When the work is mandatory, Jones will be there. He was absent from voluntary workouts earlier this offseason.

Falcons | Takkarist McKinley playing some LB    Thu May 30, 10:49 AM

Atlanta Falcons DE Takkarist McKinley has spent time at strongside linebacker in organized team activities.

Footballguys view: McKinley is going to be primarily a defensive end for the Falcons still, but head coach Dan Quinn commented that there might be some packages where the pass-rusher is moved around. He had 7.0 sacks in 2018 and the team could benefit greatly from him increasing that number this season.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman healthy    Sat May 25, 05:01 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (groin) said he has completely recovered from the groin injury he dealt with last season.

Footballguys view: Freeman getting through the summer without any new injuries would help make the case for him being a great bargain as his current late 2nd/early 3rd round ADP. He can produce first-round numbers and has lesser competition for touches with Tevin Coleman gone. This is the first piece of information we were looking for to get on that road, but the rest is up to Freeman.

Falcons | Matt Ryan excited for offense    Fri May 24, 09:19 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan said he is excited to be reunited with offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. 'We've come up with some really good stuff,' Ryan said.

Footballguys view: This could be a very auspicious reunion for the Atlanta offense, as they were successful with Koetter the first time around. Ryan is probably undervalued in early drafts, and all Falcons offensive pieces could be boosted by this move, after Steve Sarkisian left us wanting a better offensive mind at the helm here in the wake of Kyle Shanahan's departure to San Francisco.

Falcons | Marcus Green working on the side    Thu May 23, 08:42 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Marcus Green (hamstring) is working on the side with trainers to start OTAs.

Footballguys view: Green is a speed demon, so this hamstring injury can slow him down and that's why the Falcons are being careful. A sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Green can contribute as a receiver or return man. He needs to clean up his routes and do a better job handling tight coverage but man alive can this kid fly. We'll watch him in super deep dynasty formats.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman participating in OTAs    Thu May 23, 01:42 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee, groin, foot) is participating in OTAs Thursday, May 23.

Footballguys view: Great news for Freeman and Fantasy GMs here. Freeman didn't look like himself last year battling through various injuries. This year, he's set to bounce back in a big way. Not only is he fully healthy, the team let Tevin Coleman (49ers) move on in free agency. Fantasy GMs are currently taking Freeman off the board at RB14 (2.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Falcons | Julio Jones absent from workouts    Mon May 20, 09:41 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones was not present for the start of organized team activities Monday, May 20.

Footballguys view: About 10 days ago, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said he's "very encouraged" by Julio Jones' extension talks. The team expects Jones to be at mandatory work in the middle of June, but they only thought he'd sparingly participate in voluntary workouts. The Falcons should get a deal done with Jones that makes him the highest paid wide receiver in the league.

Falcons | GM happy with Julio Jones contract talks    Sat May 11, 04:58 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones' agent has been talking with the Falcons about a contract extension for Jones, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff said he is very encouraged with the talks. Dimitroff said there is no timetable for an agreement.

Footballguys view: It sounded like the two sides were making headway towards an agreement earlier in the offseason, so expect this to get done before the season. Jones is still playing at a very high level and should become one of the five highest paid players at his position.

Falcons | Jeremy Langford waived    Sat May 11, 04:12 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Jeremy Langford (undisclosed) was waived/injured Saturday, May 11.

Footballguys view: Langford was once the starting back for the Bears, but he has fallen to the bottom rung of the NFL running back food chain with an influx of talent over the last three years. He'll likely show up in another camp if he's healthy by the summer.

Falcons | Atlanta adds Tony Brooks-James    Sat May 11, 04:11 PM

Undrafted free-agent RB Tony Brooks-James (Oregon) signed with the Atlanta Falcons Saturday, May 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brooks-James is a speed merchant who can make things happen in space, but isn't suited to run between the tackles. He could land on the Falcons practice squad.

Falcons | Two safeties making good progress    Sat May 11, 02:55 PM

Atlanta Falcons SS Keanu Neal (knee) and FS Ricardo Allen (Achilles) are making good progress in their rehabs and hopefully will be full participants at the start of training camp, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: The Falcons will have a new starting corner outside in Isaiah Oliver, but will enjoy more continuity than last year if Neal and Allen can stay healthy. "Hopefully" isn't the most reassuring word, so we'll continue to monitor their progress.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman will be ready for camp    Sat May 11, 02:48 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (groin) will be a full participant at the start of training camp, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Footballguys view: This is a great sign for his 2019 value. He has dealt with a myriad of injuries over the last two years and it has been fair to wonder if he'll be his old self again. If he can make it through an entire camp and preseason with full participation, Freeman will be a lot more attractive as your RB2.

Footballguys view: Ollison is set to bring much-needed size to the Falcons backfield. We'll see how he fits into the mix behind starter Devonta Freeman.

Falcons | Qadree Ollison the power back?    Thu May 2, 09:20 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Qadree Ollison will 'add needed size' to the backfield after Tevin Coleman signed with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Will McFadden of AtlantaFalcons.com.

Footballguys view: Ollison is a big back (228 pounds) but he's not a punisher for a man his size. He's swift and difficult to bring down when he builds a head of steam, but Ollison could run with more authority and decisiveness.

Falcons | Protecting Matt Ryan a priority    Tue Apr 30, 12:30 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan was sacked or hit a career-high 76 times last season, so the Falcons made his protection a draft priority, selecting a pair of offensive linemen in the first round. 'We knew what we needed to do this offseason and that was to continue to fortify that line and make sure that we were protecting Matt,' Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff said. 'And we weren't going to run into what we ran into last year.'

Footballguys view: The Falcons have a high-powered offense with weapons all over the place. So long as Ryan stays upright, he should produce top-5 fantasy quarterback numbers in 2019. The Falcons made the moves in the draft to help out his protection, something that should pay early dividends this season.
