Recent Game Summaries

2017 Week 17 vs LAR (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 4 / 4 / 19 / 0 rec)

Two of Juszczyk's were of the dumpoff variety; the two others were designed for him. The first of these could have resulted in a much bigger gain if not for a great read-and-react play by cornerback Troy Hill. On the play, Juszczyk lined up in the right slot. Matt Breida motioned next to him prior to the snap, and then picked a linebacker to open up the short middle, which is exactly where Juszcyk's slant was designed to take him. The other target designed for Juszczyk involved faking his patented wheel route, instead breaking it off in the left flat and running an out. He was wide open, thereby gaining 14 yards untouched.

2017 Week 16 vs JAX (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 5 / 5 / 76 / 0 rec)

Juszczyk's receiving performance elicited deja vu. As was the case two weeks ago against Houston, his long gain resulted from lining up in his usual spot as lead blocker in an I-formation and then running a wheel route after the play-action fake. Unlike against Houston, Juszczyk actually went completely uncovered down the left sideline, which is why this yardage again was in the 40s instead of the 30s.

2017 Week 14 vs HOU (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 4 / 3 / 64 / 0 rec)

Juszczyk was more involved than usual as a receiver this week, with two of his targets accounting for nearly all of the yardage on San Francisco's touchdown drive to go up 10-3 in the second quarter. On 2nd-and-8 from the 34-yard line, Juszczyk ran a wheel route down the left sideline and was able to hold on for a 29-yard catch despite getting hit by two defenders as he leapt for the ball. Two plays latter, he beat linebacker Zack Cunningham to the left flat on his short out route, and then ran away from Cunningham for an additional 24 yards, thereby setting the 49ers up with 1st-and-goal at the 4-yard line.

2017 Week 5 vs IND (1 / 3 / 0 rush, 4 / 2 / 14 / 1 rec)

Juszczyk is not the prototypical gadget-play guy, but this game saw him once again fill his niche as the "snake in the grass" of Kyle Shanahan's offense. He lead-blocked, and lead-blocked, and lead-blocked; and then he motioned into the slot, caught a linebacker flat-footed, and hauled in an 8-yard catch on 2nd-and-7. Then he went back to lead-blocking for a while...until he scored a touchdown as the designed recipient of 2017's play du jour, a backside shovel pass at the goal line.

2017 Week 1 vs CAR (1 / 0 / 0 rush, 4 / 2 / 17 / 0 rec)

Juszczyk got the first target of the game, but also had a few drops and couldn't convert a fourth-down opportunity. He'll be part of this offense, but the volume and talent level aren't enough to create fantasy value.
