Week 20: vs Green Bay Packers

All WR vs GB

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Atlanta eked out a one-point win over Green Bay back in Week Eight, 32-33 at home in the Georgia Dome. Matt Ryan tossed 28/35 for 288 yards passing, three TDs and zero interceptions during the contest, adding 2/9/0 rushing (while taking two sacks for -11 yards). Mohamed Sanu was the lead receiver that day, seeing 10 targets for 9/84/1 receiving; Taylor Gabriel (three for 3/68/1) and Devonta Freeman (six for 4/23/1) also scored receiving TDs, while Austin Hooper (five for 5/41/0) and Julio Jones (five for 3/29/0) helped keep the chains moving. All told eight different players caught passes from Ryan against Green Bay. Ryan bombed the Seahawks for 26/37 yielding 338 yards passing, three TDs and zero interceptions thrown last weekend (he took three sacks for -15 yards). Jones only played part of the game due to aggravating his nagging toe/foot injury (eight targets for 6/67/1 receiving), but could have returned to action if he'd been needed according to head coach Dan Quinn. The team expects him to be available for this contest against the Packers, although as we saw last weekend he may not make it through the whole game. Freeman (five targets for 4/80/0 receiving) led the Falcons in receiving vs. Seattle, while Gabriel (six for 4/71/0) and Sanu (five for 4/44/1) were also heavily involved. Levine Toilolo (four for 2/26/0) made a couple of important grabs and Tevin Coleman (four for 3/22/1) also scored during the contest. In short, the Falcons' high-powered passing attack picked up in the Divisional round at the same near-perfect pitch they finished regular season with (Ryan threw 27/36 for 331 yards, four TDs and zero interceptions vs. New Orleans in the regular-season finale). Ryan has thrown seven TD passes and zero interceptions over the last two games played. The Packers' pass defense crumbled in Dallas after their offense staked the defense to a 21-3 lead (Green Bay eked out a 34-31 win at the buzzer) - Dak Prescott came alive in the second half and wound up with 24/38 for 291 net yards passing, three TDs and one interception thrown, with two sacks taken for -11 yards (and 2/13/0 rushing to his credit). Two games ago Eli Manning threw 23/44 for 295 net yards passing, one TD and one interception thrown, with two sacks taken for -4 yards - Green Bay has averaged 293 net passing yards allowed per game during the post-season, compared to their 31st-in-the-NFL finish during regular season during which they averaged 269.2 net passing yards allowed per game, with 32 TDs given out (an average of two passing scores allowed per game, tied with the Rams for third-most passing TDs allowed during regular season). From Week 15-17 of regular season (the final three weeks, with no teams on bye), Green Bay averaged 26.4 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing quarterbacks (second-most in the NFL); and 41.6 fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers (most in the league); with 4.2 fantasy points given up per game to tight ends (eighth-least). The loss of strong safety Morgan Burnett (thigh injury) during the game at Dallas didn't help, as rookie Kentrell Brice got taken to school by Dallas once he was in the game. Keep an eye on Burnett's practice participation later in the week - if he can't go Ryan and company have an even bigger edge on Green Bay than the numbers above indicate. This is a good matchup for the high-flying Falcons' pass offense.
