News you need to know

From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Nov 17): Don't sweat Bowe's dud against Seattle if you've been using him for high floor PPR depth. The Chiefs only threw 16 passes. They'll throw more against the Broncos in Week 13, and probably on Thursday against the Raiders too.

Week 12: at Oakland Raiders

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Alex Smith hasn't needed to throw the ball much as Jamaal Charles has dominated the last two opponents in the rushing phase of the game - Smith posted 11/16 for 108 yards passing, with zero TDs, interceptions, or sacks taken against the Seahawks last week. He threw 17/29 for 177 yards, zero TDs or interceptions while taking six sacks at Buffalo (for -26 yards) - K.C. won both games. There simply isn't much fantasy juice to be had out of this passing attack entering the final weeks of the season as the Chiefs don't need to throw the football to win games. This week, the pathetic 0-10 Raiders await the Chiefs in the Black Hole - to date, Oakland has allowed an average of 235.4 net passing yards per game (12th in the NFL), but over three times as many passing scores - 18 - as interceptions generated (five, tied for 27th in the NFL). They have only 10 sacks this year (dead last in the NFL). Philip Rivers had a modest day against this group last week (22/34 for 180 net yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions) but Denver stomped them for 33/49 yielding 353 net passing yards, five TDs and two interceptions thrown just two games ago. Advantage, K.C. - but realize that they may not need to throw the football much in this one.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 9 vs NYJ (10 / 6 / 55 / 0 rec)

Like most of the Chiefs' offense, Bowe had a solid first half and then disappeared in the second. He made a good hands catch on a stop route on the first drive for 8 yards and followed that up with a 13 yard reception on a slant. Bowe's best catch came early in the second quarter when he made a one handed snag of a pass on 3rd and 8 to pick up 11 yards. Of course, Bowe also mixed in a bad drop on a much easier catch. The game script caused Bowe to see very little action in the second half.

2014 Week 10 vs BUF (12 / 8 / 93 / 0 rec)

As far as the Chiefs passing game went; it was the Bowe show for the most part. Bowe had 80% of the Chiefs receptions from receivers and more than half of the Chiefs total receiving yards. He was able to get through the day without a terrible drop or poor route. He killed the Bills on short stop routes and hitches. His first catch came on a short slant; Bowe broke a tackle but lost the ball, then picked it back up and scampered for a 23 yard gain on the play. Bowe dominated the Chiefs first touchdown drive, with 45 yards on 4 catches. He made a quick reaction on a stop route when the ball got on him in a hurry for a gain of 9 and showed excellent footwork on a 15 yard gain on the left sideline. Bowe's hands and route running were exceptional without fail in this one and he was a huge part of their limited success.

2014 Week 11 vs SEA (4 / 2 / 18 / 0 rec)

Bowe was covered by Richard Sherman for much of the day and saw only one target in the first half. Both of his second half catches came on slants where he beat Sherman over the middle. Bowe also had a drop on a short slant that was thrown slightly behind him in heavy traffic.
