The former sixth round pick played at the peak of his powers in his contract year last season, terrorising quarterbacks to the tune of 16 sacks to go along with 40 solo tackles and 20 assists. Carolina placed the franchise tag on him and could hammer out a long-term deal before the mid-July deadline. Hardy is an elite defensive end only entering his best years and should easily reach DE1 totals in 2014. (May 13)

Panthers | Greg Hardy punishment could wait (Thu Jul 17, 12:15 PM) - Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy could avoid immediate punishment from the NFL after being found guilty on charges of communicating threats and assaulting a female because he filed for a second trial in Superior Court in front of a jury. The NFL could choose to suspend Hardy for as many as four games based on recent disciplinary actions. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said the NFL would review Hardy's legal situation at the 'appropriate time.'

Our View: We expect the NFL to eventually take a strong stance here. The league usually doesn't punish first-time offenders until their legal cases have run their course. However, the Panthers could take action against Hardy before the NFL's decision.

Panthers | Could cut Greg Hardy (Thu Jul 17, 09:10 AM) - Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy could be cut by the team because, according to former DE Mike Rucker, Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is sensitive to the topic of domestic violence.

Our View: Hardy is playing on a one-year franchise tag in 2014. The guilty verdict could at least keep the team from looking to re-sign him to a long-term deal. There's a strong chance the league suspends Hardy when the legal process has been exhausted.

Panthers | Greg Hardy found guilty (Tue Jul 15, 11:02 PM) - Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy was found guilty Tuesday, July 15, of assaulting of assaulting a female and communicating threats. Mecklenburg County Judge Rebecca Thorn-Tin sentenced Hardy to 18 months' probation. A 60-day jail sentence was suspended. Hardy's attorney Chris Fialko said he'll appeal and Hardy has asked for a jury trial in superior court.

Our View: The appeal will likely delay any suspension coming from the NFL. Cases like this can be pushed back quite some time, so the league is going to have to wait before they suspend Hardy.
