Week 3: at Miami Dolphins

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Alex Smith posted 26/42 for 255 yards passing, zero TDs and zero interceptions thrown, with two sacks taken for -8 yards last week. To date, he's thrown 45/77 for 457 yards passing, one TD and three interceptions to land at 22nd among all fantasy quarterbacks so far this year. With Dwayne Bowe back in the fold (six targets for 3/40/0 receiving), and Travis Kelce emerging (six targets for 4/81/0 to lead the team in receiving) the Chiefs have some positive things happening on offense while going 0-2 to open the season. The Dolphins' pass D ranks 15th in the NFL averaging 214.0 net passing yards allowed per game, with two passing scores and zero interceptions generated through two contests. EJ Manuel was not sacked or hit by the Dolphins last week as he threw for 16/26 yielding 202 net yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions thrown. In Week 1, Tom Brady and company manufactured 29/56 for 226 net yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions, while taking four sacks for -23 yards. The Dolphins' pass D is looking pretty mediocre as of Week 3. This is a neutral matchup for the Chiefs' signal caller and his cohorts.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 1 vs TEN (13 / 7 / 84 / 0 rec)

This game was a mixed bag for Avery, as he posted a respectable 7-84-0 line but had several miscues as well. He fell down on two of Smith's picks and had the third bounce off of his chest. In fairness to him, the two he fell down on were both poor throws, but there is still a sense that a better receiver may have prevented one or both of them. All that said Avery was the only receiver that showed an ability to get open in this game and ran some really good routes. Avery showed outstanding footwork to get two feet in bounds on a diving catch in the 4th quarter for a 25 yard gain. He looked very much like a WR2/3 that was thrust into his team's WR1 role without any help around him.

2014 Week 2 vs DEN (6 / 3 / 14 / 0 rec)

Avery had a 39 yard reception called back because of holding and saw his role greatly diminished from Week 1. He saw a couple of red zone targets short of the goal line and each time went down immediately after catching it instead of attempting to get into the end zone.
