Free-agent WR Hakeem Nicks (Titans), WR Clyde Gates (Titans) and WR Austin Pettis (Chargers) will work out with the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys have to at least upgrade their emergency list with Dez Bryant out for about two months..maybe longer. Any wide receiver added would be unlikely to have fantasy value if guys like Terrance Williams, Cole Beasely and Devin Street produce with larger roles. |

Chargers | Austin Pettis signs Fri Jan 9, 04:32 PM
The San Diego Chargers signed free-agent WR Austin Pettis (Rams) to an undisclosed deal Friday, Jan. 9.
Footballguys view: An interesting move for the Chargers here. Pettis was a third-round pick for the St. Louis Rams in the 2011 NFL draft, but he failed to play up to expectations. The Rams cut Pettis in October after he was late for a team meeting. He'll get a chance to redeem himself in San Diego. |

Rams | Austin Pettis reworks deal Fri Sep 5, 03:13 AM
St. Louis Rams WR Austin Pettis has reworked his contract with the team to save some cap room. Pettis has agreed to slice his base salary for 2014 by more than half, from $1.431 million to just $700,000. In exchange for taking a pay cut, Pettis received a $250,000 signing bonus. Because he's in the final year of his contract, the bonus won't be prorated at all, but it still results in nearly $500,000 worth of cap savings for the Rams.

Rams | Austin Pettis key in red zone Tue Jun 24, 08:41 AM
St. Louis Rams WR Austin Pettis did some of his best work in the red zone this spring. It's clear that QB Sam Bradford has a lot of confidence in Pettis in the red zone.
Footballguys view: Pettis has caught eight touchdowns combined over the last two years. We'll see if Bradford can stay healthy and keep targeting Pettis near pay dirt. We're not expecting much from Pettis and aren't that excited about his upside--even in deep dynasty leagues. Watch him in camp and the preseason to see if things turned around. |

Rams | Austin Pettis may not make cut Sat May 24, 06:21 PM
St. Louis Rams WR Austin Pettis' roster spot may in jeopardy in training camp.
Footballguys view: The Rams have Stedman Bailey facing a four-game suspension to start the season, but that doesn't mean Pettis is safe. He's a below average player who has failed to play up to expectations as a pro. It's not going to be a surprise if/when the Rams let him go. Pettis finally played a full season for the first time in his three-year career, but he only registered 38 catches. |

Rams | Kenny Britt signs Mon Mar 31, 07:25 PM
The St. Louis Rams signed free-agent WR Kenny Britt (Titans) to a one-year, $1.4 million deal Monday, March 31, according to a source. The deal could wind up being worth as much as $2.9 million. Britt will receive $550,000 in guarantees.
Footballguys view: This was an expected landing spot for Britt. He's reunited with former Titans head coach (and current Rams head coach) Jeff Fisher. The Rams added former Titans TE Jared Cook last year. Like Cook, Britt was disgruntled in Tennessee and needed a change of scenery. Britt's talent has never been a question mark. Injuries and inconsistencies have held back his pro career. If healthy and motivated then Britt could be the team's top receiver. |

Rams | Kellen Clemens expected to start Mon Oct 21, 01:06 PM
St. Louis Rams QB Kellen Clemens is expected to start at quarterback with QB Sam Bradford (knee) out for the rest of the season.
Footballguys view: This isn't great news for the Rams. Even fantasy owners in start two QB leagues should be looking elsewhere for help. With Clemens starting it's a downgrade for the entire Rams offense. Expect a more run heavy approach moving forward. |

Rams | Austin Pettis shows well Mon Sep 16, 01:19 AM
St. Louis Rams WR Austin Pettis had career highs with eight catches and 78 receiving yards in the Week 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Footballguys view: We're not super high on adding Pettis via the waiver wire. The Rams passing game is going to be a lot of Tavon Austin and Chris Givens. Once in a while we'll see more from TE Jared Cook and Pettis. Only consider adding him if you play in a deep league. |

Rams | Might only keep five WRs Tue Aug 27, 12:00 PM
The St. Louis Rams might only keep five wide receivers to start the regular season due to injuries at the tight end position. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick are considered the 'big five.' WRs Emory Blake, Nick Johnson and Justin Veltung are believed to be battling for the sixth receiver job.
Footballguys view: The Rams have a strong group of WRs with a unique blend of skill sets. Austin and Givens have incredible speed and can get open with ease. Bailey is a downfield target who does a good job of tracking the ball. Quick is the big receiver and makes for a nice target in the red zone. Pettis has improved his concentration and can make difficult catches. |

Rams | Chris Givens, Austin Pettis atop early depth chart Tue Jul 16, 11:03 PM
St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens and Austin Pettis are each listed as projected starters on the team's initial depth chart heading into training camp. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick are listed as 'key contributors'.
Footballguys view: Givens is set to be the team's primary downfield target. He has the speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry and tracks the ball well deep. Pettis has been turning heads this offseason but the player we're most excited about is Austin. The rookie is incredibly quick, fast, and agile. He reminded some in the scouting community of Randall Cobb (Packers) because of his ability to score from anywhere on the field. We're expecting Austin to get plenty of work in 2013. |

Rams | Brian Quick tumbling down depth chart? Sun Jun 16, 11:44 PM
St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick reportedly had a disappointing spring, and he tumbled down the unofficial depth chart, working as the No. 4 receiver as organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp ended. However, it is believed the rookie Tavon Austin, Chris Givens and Austin Pettis just had better practices, as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had good words for Quick. '(Quick's) doing a lot better. He's stepped up this year. He's just much more comfortable,' Schottenheimer said.
Footballguys view: This contradicts an earlier report from Tony Softli where Quick was impressing in OTAs. Either way Quick has more competition at the WR position since the team added both Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey in the 2013 NFL draft. Quick disappointed last year after the team spent a 2012 second-round pick on him. |

Rams | Two finish as starting WRs after spring Sun Jun 16, 11:42 PM
St. Louis Rams WRs Austin Pettis and Chris Givens were working as the starting outside wide receivers as spring practices wound down.
Footballguys view: Good news for Pettis here. Givens was impressive last year as a rookie and was the primary deep target for the Rams in 2012. Pettis has struggled during his pro career but it sounds like he's on the right track now. We love how the Rams have upgraded their weapons this offseason. They'll have a much more explosive offense in 2013. |

Rams | Austin Pettis impressive during workouts Sat Jun 15, 11:34 AM
St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said he was very impressed with how WR Austin Pettis has performed during offseason workouts. 'Quite honestly, he's probably having the best camp of all the skill players,' Schottenheimer said. 'He's just a tireless worker. Very competitive. ... He's having a tremendous spring.' Austin has worked at split end and in the slot during workouts. He also appears to have created chemistry with QB Sam Bradford in the red zone.
Footballguys view: Pettis is the forgotten man in the Rams WR corps this year. The team added Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey in the 2013 NFL draft after adding Chris Givens and Brian Quick in the draft last year. We'll see if he can carve out a backup role on the team this season. |

Rams | New-look offense developing Wed Jun 12, 05:56 PM
St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford is working with the same offensive coordinator in consecutive seasons for the first time in his career, but plenty has changed about the team's offense. With RB Steven Jackson gone, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will now run the O through Bradford while trying to bust more big plays. 'The speed that we have acquired and what we have on the outside now -- and even the inside -- it suits us more to spread it out and play more one-back this year,' Bradford said. He also thinks defenses will have to design specific coverages for some of the speed weapons, a reversal from St. Louis' more predictable offense last season.
Footballguys view: This is an exciting offense to watch for fantasy owners. It's going to be a high powered offense with the addition of several weapons this offseason. The team also upgraded the O-Line this offseason when they added Jake Long in free agency. |

Rams | Two to see more responsibilities Fri Mar 22, 10:03 PM
The St. Louis Rams plan to lean on WR Austin Pettis and Brian Quick more in 2013 with WRs Danny Amendola (Patriots) and Brandon Gibson (Dolphins) leaving via free agency.
Footballguys view: Both Pettis and Quick have flashed very little as pros. We'll see if Quick can develop on his raw skill set and become the WR1 the team envisioned when they selected him in the draft last year. |

Rams | Trio of WRs could be moving up Sun Feb 17, 08:49 PM
If impending free-agent WRs Danny Amendola (Rams) and Brandon Gibson (Rams) are not brought back, that would leave St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick as the only wideouts under contract with the team in 2013. However, head coach Jeff Fisher doesn't sound concerned either way, noting the team could look for help outside the organization. 'Not a concern whatsoever,' Fisher said. 'There's options out there. The free-agent market, there's options out there, and it's a great draft for a receiver this year.'
Footballguys view: Any team who needs WR help is going to like the choices available this offseason. The free agent market features star WRs like Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, and Greg Jennings. The 2013 Draft is incredibly deep at the position and quality WRs can be found in the second- and third-round. The Rams have two first-round picks because of the trade they made last year with the Redskins for the number two overall pick. |

Rams | Trio of receivers battling for spots Sat Aug 4, 09:12 PM
St. Louis Rams WRs Danario Alexander, Austin Pettis and Greg Salas are competing for precious roster spots in training camp, and it's conceivable each could be out of a job.
Footballguys view: Alexander is the most physically gifted but is always fighting through knee injuries. Pettis is a possession receiver who doesn't excite. Salas has great open field moves but last year looked like he forgot how to play football. If he can look more like he did at Hawaii then we like him to win this roster spot. |

Rams | Five might be battling for roster spot Sun Jul 29, 11:19 PM
St. Louis Rams WRs Danario Alexander, Brandon Gibson, Austin Pettis, Greg Salas and Steve E. Smith are not considered locks for the team's final roster out of training camp and the preseason. Smith showed progress as offseason workouts went on, and he might be a sleeper if healthy. Pettis has two games remaining on his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
