News you need to know
General News (Sat Oct 3): was traded to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Oct. 3.
Week 4: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Ravens' offensive coordinator Marc Trestman said on Tuesday, September 29 that he doesn't expect TE Crockett Gillmore (calf injury) to play in Thursday night's game against the Steelers. 'With Crockett being out, we expect [our young tight ends] to step up and play well for us,' - Maxx Williams has seen his NFL opportunity arrive, now we'll see if he can rise to the occasion. Somebody needs to provide Joe Flacco (82/126 for 863 yards passing, four TDs and four interceptions thrown to date) with an alternate to Steve Smith Sr. (40 targets for 25/349/2 receiving) who is carrying the passing attack on his aged shoulders entering Week Four - Kamar Aiken (11 targets for 6/88/0 so far this season) and Marlon Brown (11 for 6/66/0) are only bit players at this point. Last week, Flacco threw 32/49 for 362 yards passing, two TDs and one interception during a wild divisional showdown with Cincinnati - Smith hauled in both TDs with 17 targets for 13/186/2 receiving. Williams (seven for 3/44/0) and Crockett (three for 3/40/0) were the other Ravens who went over 30 yards receiving during the contest. The Steelers' pass D coughed up just 19/29 for 187 net passing yards, zero TDs and one interception to Nick Foles and company last week, after giving up 33/46 for 335 yards passing, two TDs and zero interceptions to the 49ers two weeks ago. This unit has been up-and-down in recent weeks, as you can see - to date the rank 19th in the NFL averaging 255.3 net passing yards allowed per game, with six passing scores given up vs. one interception generated. The Steelers do have nine sacks so far (tied for fifth in the NFL) but the pass pressure up front hasn't helped the secondary out much so far this season (until last week, that is). This one looks like a neutral matchup for the visiting Ravens, who have to survive the raucous Heinz Field crowd as well as the Steelers this Thursday night.

Latest NewsRavens | Chris Givens acquired (Sat Oct 3, 09:57 AM) - St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Oct. 3. It is not known what the Rams will receive in return. Our View: The Ravens needed help at the wide receiver position, and that's why they make the move here. Michael Campanaro is out for the year, rookie Breshad Perriman is still coming back from an injury and now Steve Smith Sr. has a back/ribs injury and is considered day-to-day. Over three games this year, Givens has played only 50 snaps with one rush for 24 yards and one catch for seven yards. It's been all downhill for the speedy receiver since his breakout rookie season of 2012 when he snared 42 catches for 698 yards and three touchdowns. We'll see if he can quickly carve out a role with his new team.
