Week 2: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Woo, the Rams laid a stinker in the first game of the season. Subpar Minnesota looked like a playoff team against the inept Rams - a 6-34 loss makes any team look bad. With first a backup (Shaun Hill) and then a reserve (Austin Davis) under center, the Vikings dared the Rams to pass the ball and focused on containing the St. Louis backs. It worked - the Rams' passers threw zero TDs and two interceptions while being sacked five times for -27 yards. Hill supposedly hurt his thigh during the game, and was sent to the bench with 8/13 for 81 yards passing, zero TDs and one interception. Luckily for him, Davis didn't play any better so as of Monday head coach Jeff Fisher said Shaun Hill is 'our starter,' and will start if healthy versus Tampa Bay. As Hill wasn't limping after the game and didn't have an ice bag on his thigh, we're fairly certain he's healthy enough to play again here in Week Two, though whether another week of reps as the starter will get him back into top form is an open question. As detailed last week Hill has a respectable history in the league, but the rust on his passing arm was very evident vs. Minnesota. The Buccaneers allowed 24/34 for 221 net yards, two TDs and zero interceptions to Derek Anderson on opening day, and lost 14-20. Tampa Bay was 17th in the NFL last season averaging 238 net passing yards allowed per game, with 30 passing scores handed out over 16 games (almost two per game, the same pace Anderson put up last week). They were tied for third in the league with 21 interceptions generated, but only had 35 sacks (tied for 23rd in the league). This remains a ho-hum, middlin' pass D overall. A sub-par passing attack faces a so-so D in this one - that's a neutral matchup in our book, but don't expect fireworks from Hill and then you won't be disappointed.

Rams | Austin Pettis reworks deal (Fri Sep 5, 03:13 AM) - St. Louis Rams WR Austin Pettis has reworked his contract with the team to save some cap room. Pettis has agreed to slice his base salary for 2014 by more than half, from $1.431 million to just $700,000. In exchange for taking a pay cut, Pettis received a $250,000 signing bonus. Because hes in the final year of his contract, the bonus wont be prorated at all, but it still results in nearly $500,000 worth of cap savings for the Rams.
