Chiefs | Cyrus Gray cut Wed Jul 29, 01:08 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Cyrus Gray was released Wednesday, July 29.
Footballguys view: Gray was a good all-around back in college at Texas A&M, but he didn't develop as a pro player. Knile Davis will serve as the primary backup behind Jamaal Charles once again. A guy like fullback Spencer Ware could end up as the team's third-string running back. |

Chiefs | Cyrus Gray will have to compete for spot Sun Jul 13, 08:24 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Cyrus Gray will have to hold off RB Joe McKnight during training camp if he wants to make the final roster.
Footballguys view: Nothing to really worry about here for most fantasy owners. Gray is a good all-purpose back to monitor in super deep dynasty leagues, but that's about it. The primary backup behind Jamaal Charles is second-year pro Knile Davis. Fantasy owners should handcuff him to Charles if roster depth allows it. |

Chiefs | More on Jamaal Charles Wed Sep 11, 02:41 PM
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expects RB Jamaal Charles (quadriceps) to play in the team's Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys despite being held out of practice for precautionary reasons Wednesday, Sept. 11. Charles suffered a quadriceps bruise in Week 1. If for some reason he doesn't play, RBs Cyrus Gray or Knile Davis would replace him. Gray played on passing downs in Week 1 and Davis was used on running plays.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs are wisely being careful here. Use Charles as a RB1 this week and every week that he's on the field. |

Chiefs | Several players have one last chance to shine Fri Aug 23, 09:06 PM
The first roster cutdown from 90 players to 75 is set for Tuesday, Aug. 27. There aren't expected to be many surprises, but WRs Rico Richardson and Tyler Shoemaker; TEs Kevin Brock and Demetrius Harris; RB Cyrus Gray; GB Toben Opurum; DEs Marcus Dixon and Austen Lane; NT Miguel Chavis; LB Orie Lemon; CBs Vincent Agnew and Semaj Moody; and FS Bradley McDougald are players believe to be fighting to avoid the cut, and they could help themselves with big plays, not just on offense and defense, but on special teams in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 24, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has mild sprain Tue Aug 13, 01:54 PM
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is dealing with a mild foot sprain, and he wasn't walking with a boot or a noticeable limp Tuesday, Aug. 13. He rode a stationary bike but didn't participate in practice. 'People are speculating Lisfranc and all that,' trainer Rick Burkholder said of the mid-foot injury that caused problems for former RB Larry Johnson. 'He doesn't have any discomfort there. I've had him see two orthopedic surgeons and everyone agrees he has a mild foot strain.' There is no timetable for when Charles will return to action, but it's unlikely he'll play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16.
Footballguys view: It's important to note that rookie Knile Davis was taking a majority of the first-team reps with the team in practice. Davis is a poor man's version of Darren McFadden (Raiders). He has good straight line speed but lacks elusiveness and has durability concerns. Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray are battling for the No. 3 job. |

Chiefs | Have depth at RB Tue Jan 15, 10:15 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was a stud in his return from knee surgery, gaining over 1,500 yards on the ground. While RB Peyton Hillis, an unrestricted free agent, is not likely to be back. However, FB Nate Eachus and RB Shaun Draughn provide some decent depth, as well as RB Cyrus Gray. New head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey aren't expected to have to tinker much with this position.
Footballguys view: We like the upside of a guy like Gray here. Reid likes versatile RBs who can make an impact as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Gray is one of the more versatile players on the team and can help out in many different ways. |

Chiefs | Will continue to run Tue Oct 9, 07:23 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs plan to continue to pound the ball on the ground, regardless of who their quarterback is under center. They ran the ball 49 times compared to 19 pass plays in their Week 5 loss, and they rank second in the league in rushing. RB Jamaal Charles leads the league with 551 yards and is tied for third with 102 attempts. RB Shaun Draughn carried the ball 12 times and RB Cyrus Gray had four carries last week. RB Peyton Hillis (ankle) will be involved, too, when he returns from injury.
Footballguys view: Go with your strength. The Chiefs are a much better running team than they are a passing team. Most numbers guys like QB Matt Cassell or WR Dwayne Bowe have put up this year have been late in games when they're playing 'catch up' football. |

Chiefs | Reserve RBs see most reps Wed Aug 8, 10:09 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RBs Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray received most of the work at running back Wednesday, Aug. 8, leaving little work for RBs Jamaal Charles (knee) and Peyton Hillis.
Footballguys view: We could see Gray developing into a quality backup runner and receiver out of the backfield. He's a jack of all trades, but a master of none and we don't think he has the skill set to be anything more than a change of pace RB. |

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed fourth-round draft choice WR Devon Wylie, sixth-round draft choice RB Cyrus Gray and seventh-round draft choices DT Jerome Long and WR Junior Hemingway. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: We love the addition of "Wiggles" Wylie. He plays like a supercharged Wes Welker and is an explosive player who is dangerous in the open field. Gray is a good all purpose RB who can be effective as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. |

Chiefs | Cyrus Gray worked out Mon Apr 16, 01:57 AM
Texas A&M RB Cyrus Gray had a private workout with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Gray is projected as a third-round target in the NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Gray is one of the most versatile RBs in the 2012 NFL Draft. We like his natural feel for running the ball and his hands as a receiver out of the backfield. However, at times Gray seems a little too patient waiting for holes to open up and sometimes just needs to take what the defense gives him. |

Cowboys | Cyrus Gray to visit Wed Apr 4, 02:55 PM
Texas A&M RB Cyrus Gray will visit the Dallas Cowboys.
Footballguys view: Gray is a talented mid-round RB prospect. He's kind of a jack of all trades and is a versatile back who can also be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. He's not overly powerful or overly fast but is a natural runner who will take what the defense gives him while looking for a cutback lane. The only problem that stands out on film with Gray is that he can be too patient at times and lose yards as a result. |
