From Mark Wimer's Monday injury report (Mon Nov 17): Hillis was sent to IR on November 15 due to his concussion woes. His season is over.

Week 12: vs Dallas Cowboys

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. The Giants lost to Dallas 21-31 back on October 19 - they were doing without Rashad Jennings at that time, leaving Andre Williams (18/51/0 rushing) and Peyton Hillis (now on IR) as the main running threats at Dallas. This week, Jennings is back in the saddle, so looking back to Week 7 won't tell us a lot about his prospects in MetLife Stadium on Sunday night. He had the bulk of carries vs. San Francisco last week (18/59/0 rushing out of 21/65/0 rushing attempted) and added 4/8/0 receiving to his totals last week. We expect Jennings to be fed the ball frequently again here in Week 12. Williams handled 2/2/0 rushing and 1/4/0 receiving for the Giants last week. The Dallas rush D is ranked 12th in the NFL averaging 109.0 yards allowed per game, with nine rushing TDs given out over 10 games. They coughed up 24/71/2 to the Jaguars during their most recent game, after allowing 29/102/1 to the Cardinals two games ago. This is a respectable, but not a shut-down, defensive front. This looks like a neutral matchup for the home team - neither New York nor Dallas hold an edge in this phase of the game.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 9 vs IND (4 / 20 / 0 rush, 6 / 5 / 50 / 0 rec)

Peyton Hillis didn't accomplish much on the ground with only 4 carries but managed to provide a few sparks in the passing game. Hillis managed a nice screen pass play down the sideline, which was well set up by a misdirection handoff to Beckham Jr. Hillis also had a big first down with a stretch play outside, which was well blocked and allowed him to get some momentum for a change and power forward. Hillis was a factor out of the backfield for Manning and showed a reliable pair of hands when needed as a checkdown option. Hillis got too few carries on the ground however and never was a factor to score on the goal line in the redzone. The Giants could not afford to stick with the running game and he is only the #2 back on the depth chart so his workload will never be big as things stand.

2014 Week 10 vs SEA (1 / 4 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 5 / 0 rec)

Peyton Hillis got one simple dive carry up the middle and a checkdown pass from Manning before being forced to leave the game due to injury. Hillis would have not likely accomplished much on the ground as he is the number 2 running back and the Giants struggled to run the ball throughout the game.

Our View: Concussions have been a problem for Hillis in the past. With Rashad Jennings coming back from injury, the role for Hillis was going to shrink anyway.
