Johnson suffered a torn achilles in early December but expects to be ready for training camp.

Summary

Generally a model of LB1/2 consistency for over a decade, Johnson enters his age-35 season slipping undeniably. He remains a strong bet to notch 100+ tackles and an impressive array of splash plays if healthy for 16 games, but that's anything but a given. Johnson is rehabbing a ruptured Achilles, a devastating injury for young athletic phenoms, let alone speed-reliant guys at the tail ends of their careers. There's a strong chance he struggles to fully return from it and sees his decline hastened. All told, Johnson projects easily to another strong LB2 season on paper, but carries far too much downside to justify his typical IDP draft cost. (May 21)

Latest News

Chiefs | Derrick Johnson remains on track (Sun May 14, 04:36 PM) - Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') said he remains on schedule in his recovery and hopes to be ready for the start of training camp.

Our View: Good news for the Chiefs here. Johnson is the heart and soul of the Chiefs defense, and when he's on the field he's always around the ball. This is the second time Johnson has had an Achilles' injury, so expect the team to take it easy on him in training camp.
