FBI agents arrested former NFL RB Michael X. Bennett and DL William Joseph on identity-theft and tax-related fraud charges in North Miami. The players are accused of cashing dozens of fraudulently obtained tax-refund checks and seeking a loan - all totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. The players were granted bonds Tuesday, May 1, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Dube. Arraignments are set for May 15.

Head coach Norv Turner hinted Bennett may have already locked up a spot on the team. 'Michael's shown that there's a spot for him our team,' Turner said. 'He's shown he's capable of giving us big plays and depth at the position. I'm impressed with what Mike's done.'

Bennett is certainly on the roster bubble, and if he's cut there should be a number of teams that would put in a waiver claim for him. |

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports that fourth-round pick RB Gartrell Johnson, but veteran RB Michael Bennett will only make the team if starting fullback Jacob Hester is not considered the emergency plan at tailback. If that is the case, then backup FB Mike Tolbert will make the team. Acee writes that Tolbert might make the team over Bennett anyway because of his special teams prowess.

San Diego Chargers RB Michael Bennett had another strong showing Saturday, Aug. 29. He had seven carries for 22 yards on the ground, but he chipped in three receptions for 84 yards and a score, including a 48-yard touchdown catch and run on third down.
