Week 12: at Green Bay Packers
All WR vs GB
Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Jay Cutler managed 18/36 for 225 yards passing with one TD and one interception thrown vs. Green Bay back in Week One, the first time these divisional rivals met this season - Chicago lost 23-31. Since then, the Bears have suffered significant injury attrition - neither Eddie Royal (knee injury) or Alshon Jeffery (shoulder and groin injuries) could play last week, and Martellus Bennett banged up his ribs during Week 11. The Bears' receiving corps is much different than it was back in Week One.
Last week, the Bears lost 15-17 vs. Denver - Cutler threw 18/32 for 265 yards passing, zero TDs and one interception during the game, relying on Marquess Wilson (seven targets for 4/102/0 receiving), Josh Bellamy (five for 4/57/0) and Zach Miller (six for 3/47/0) the most - Bennett managed 2/26/0 receiving out of six targets thanks to his sore ribs. Stay tuned to Footballguys.com's Players in the News as the weekend approaches - if Royal and/or Jeffery can get back in the game the receiving options for Cutler would be upgraded, but the status for both players is unclear as of midweek.
The Packers' pass D is a good matchup for fantasy owners during recent weeks - over the past four contests (four games), Green Bay is 10th-most generous in fantasy points to wide receivers, averaging 23.7 fantasy points surrendered, while landing at sixth-most fantasy points given out to quarterbacks (23.9) and fifth-most fantasy points allowed to tight ends (15). They are ranked 23rd in the NFL this season, allowing an average of 254.6 net passing yards per game, with 13 passing scores given out vs. 11 interceptions (tied for eighth in the NFL) and 29 sacks (tied for sixth) generated. Last week, Teddy Bridgewater was sacked six times for -48 yards, but still threw for 25/38 for 248 net passing yards, one TD and zero interceptions - the Lions managed 24/38 for 242 yards passing, two TDs and one interception thrown two weeks ago (with zero sacks of Matthew Stafford). The Packers' pass D is vulnerable no matter how you slice it.
Advantage, Chicago - upgrade this matchup to 'Great' if Jeffery can play with Cutler on Thursday night.
