Chiefs | Chris Conley has an opening Fri Aug 28, 08:23 AM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Chris Conley is expected to see extended action in the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 28. Conley has a chance to rise up the depth chart because WRs Albert Wilson and Jason Avant have been quiet in training camp.
Footballguys view: After Jeremy Maclin (WR3) and Travis Kelce (TE1), there's not a lot here to prevent a guy like Conley from stepping up. Right now we have Conley as a WR5/WR6 and we wouldn't bet on more, but keep an eye on him. Maclin and Kelce will get attention, so maybe Conley will benefit from being the third wheel. |

Chiefs | Jason Avant returns to KC Fri Mar 13, 05:52 PM
Free-agent WR Jason Avant has re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: It's a decent move, but not a great move the Chiefs. They need better help at the wide receiver position. Yes, they added Jeremy Maclin but they need more. That's why we think they'll look at wide receivers in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. |

Chiefs | Jason Avant's future in KC uncertain Sun Feb 8, 07:58 PM
Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent WR Jason Avant is viewed as a good influence in the locker room, but the team must decide if they will try to upgrade.
Footballguys view: LOL. The team needs a huge upgrade at the wide receiver position. They are mostly terrible at the spot, and they passed on selecting a WR last year in the draft in what will go down as one of the best WR classes (if not THE best) in NFL history. |

Chiefs | Will sign Jason Avant Fri Nov 21, 04:41 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs will sign free-agent WR Jason Avant (Panthers), according to a source. Avant worked out for the team Friday, Nov. 21.
Footballguys view: This was expected by many after the Panthers let him go during their bye week. Avant has played with Andy Reid for most of his career and should help a Chiefs wide receiver corps which arguably has only two or three players that would be on most rosters. |

Panthers | Jason Avant released Tue Nov 18, 01:01 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Jason Avant was waived Tuesday, Nov. 18, according to a source informed of the transaction. Avant had just 21 catches in 11 games this season. Head coach Ron Rivera said the team wants to give WRs Philly Brown and Brenton Bersin more playing time after the Week 12 bye.
Footballguys view: Getting cut from a team like the Panthers is not a good sign for Avant's future in the NFL. |

Panthers | Friday injury report Fri Sep 19, 02:42 PM
Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) is listed as doubtful for Week 3. WR Jason Avant (thigh) and WR Jerricho Cotchery (thigh) are listed as questionable, while OT Byron Bell (toe), WR Philly Brown (ankle), OT Nate Chandler (toe), DT Colin Cole (non-injury), LB Thomas Davis (hip), DT Dwan Edwards (back), FB Mike Tolbert (chest) and OT Garry Williams (hip) are listed as probable. Cole, Cotchery and Whittaker did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 19. Avant was limited during practice, while the other players fully participated in practice.
Footballguys view: Cotchery is facing his old mates Sunday night, but he might not get to notch any points on the Steelers. Jason Avant would be a good desperation play in his stead, but he too is banged up. Look for Greg Olsen and Kelvin Benjamin to dominate targets in this one. |

Panthers | No timetable for Kelvin Benjamin Mon Jul 28, 07:33 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) doesn't have a timetable for his return after bruising his left knee, but he is expected to be back in days, not weeks. Head coach Ron Rivera said Benjamin should be back before the end of training camp Aug. 12. So far in camp, Benjamin has looked really good and hasn't dropped a pass during team drills while running with the first-team offense. WR Jason Avant moved up to the first-team offense Monday, July 28, with Benjamin out.
Footballguys view: The Panthers want to be as cautious as possible here. Benjamin is going to be a big part of their passing game if healthy. The 2014 first-round pick was supposed to be the centerpiece of the team's new-look wide receiver corps. Benjamin has good size and a large wingspan, but he's raw as a receiver. He's sluggish off the line of scrimmage, his routes are rounded off instead of being sharp and he's not as physical as you would expect for a receiver his size. Benjamin's current ADP is WR51 (11.05) in 12-team PPR leagues, and he's a boom/bust play in 2014. |

Panthers | Jason Avant to be No. 3 WR Sat Jul 19, 10:47 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Jason Avant likely will serve as the No. 3 wide receiver this upcoming season.
Footballguys view: Avant has the experience edge over guys like Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt. The Panthers are unlikely to have a robust passing game this year, so Avant won't have much fantasy value this year. |

Panthers | Jason Avant clashed with Chip Kelly Wed Jun 25, 12:27 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Jason Avant said he did not approve of his standing with head coach Chip Kelly last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Avant said he 'mostly ran clear-out routes. ... When it came to certain things, we butted heads sometimes -- route running and route technique. So I knew I didn't fit his system.'
Footballguys view: Avant was a leftover from the previous regime, so it's not a shock that his declining usage was a sign of a bad fit. He'll be a slot receiver and maybe the most reliable hands receiver on the Panthers this year, but that is probably not enough to make him relevant except in the very deepest of fantasy leagues. |

Panthers | Jason Avant helping the receiving corps Mon Jun 23, 10:01 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Jason Avant has earned praise form head coach Ron Rivera for the leadership he has shown to WR Kelvin Benjamin and the team's other receivers. 'Jason does things exactly the way you want them - he's a pro,' Rivera said. 'In all honesty, the thought was that if you could have a couple of veteran guys who have been there and done that around a Kelvin Benjamin, that could be very good for him. And Jason has not just been good for Benjamin, he's been good for a whole lot of guys.'
Footballguys view: The Panthers need all the help they can get. The team has arguably the worst group of receivers in the NFL. Avant is one of the most senior members of the group, and he may earn a starting or slot role with the team this year. Benjamin and one of Tavarres King, Marvin McNutt, Jerricho Cotchery and Avant will battle for the rest of the spots in the starting lineup. |

Panthers | Jason Avant signs Mon Apr 7, 06:34 PM
The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles) to an undisclosed one-year deal Monday, April 7.
Footballguys view: Another not-so-exciting wide receiver addition for the Panthers here. Even with Avant in the fold, they still have the league's most uninspiring group of receivers. Avant will compete for playing time as the team's second- or third-string receiver. |
Jason Avant player page
Panthers | Will meet with Jason Avant Sun Apr 6, 09:26 PM
The Carolina Panthers are scheduled to meet with free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles) Monday, April 7.
Footballguys view: Avant has been most connected to the Chiefs where he would be reunited with former Eagles head coach Andy Reid. However, the Panthers must have interest. They have a poor group of wide receivers right now, and they need all the help they can get. Avant isn't much of an upgrade over guys like Jerricho Cotchery or Tavarres King. |

Chiefs | Jason Avant on backburner for now Sat Apr 5, 11:39 PM
Free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles) might still be in the plans for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it is likely they will not re-visit bringing him in until after the NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: We could see Avant re-join former Eagles head coach Andy Reid at some point in the future. The Chiefs will likely address the wide receiver position in the draft. This is a talent rich and deep class of wideouts in 2014. |

Chiefs | Jason Avant on radar Mon Mar 10, 08:24 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs are interested in free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles), according to a source.
Footballguys view: The move would make sense. Avant has experience working under head coach Andy Reid from their days together in Philadelphia. He knows the system, and Avant could step in to compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Dwayne Bowe. |

NFL | Jason Avant wants to continue playing Wed Mar 5, 03:03 PM
Free-agent WR Jason Avant (Eagles) said he believes he could still play in the NFL and hopes to sign with a team before the start of free agency.

Eagles | Jason Avant released Tue Mar 4, 11:53 AM
The Philadelphia Eagles officially released WR Jason Avant Tuesday, March 4.
Footballguys view: Avant is a competent slot receiver with great hands and ball skills, but he adds little speed or playmaking ability. He'll catch on as a complementary receiver somewhere else very quickly. |

Eagles | Jason Avant may need to take pay cut Wed Feb 12, 03:10 PM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jason Avant may need to take a pay cut if he wants to stay with the team. Avant is scheduled to make $3.25 million next season.
Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if Avant stayed around at that price. The team will work with Avant to restructure his deal. A pay cut may be coming for the veteran receiver. |

Eagles | Offense efficient Tue Sep 10, 12:45 PM
The Philadelphia Eagles' offense was efficient and quick in their Week 1 victory over the Washington Redskins Monday, Sept. 9; they ran a play every 22.4 seconds and 53 in the entire game. RB LeSean McCoy had big holes to run through, and WRs DeSean Jackson and Jason Avant and TE Brent Celek were wide open most of the time down the field. QB Michael Vick was very successful running the read-option. However, the Eagles players looked fatigued late in the game, often coming off the field for breathers. Jackson didn't catch any passes in the second half. 'The tempo really worked,' McCoy said. 'I don't think anyone has seen it that fast. We've got to learn. We're learning as the thing goes. Coach Chip Kelly is a great coach. Today is the first time a lot of the guys in the locker room had fun. We couldn't wait to get back out there and have fun.'

Eagles | WR spots up for grabs Tue Jul 9, 07:06 PM
Philadelphia Eagles WRs DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and Damaris Johnson are considered locks to make the team. One or two more spots will be filled by Riley Cooper, Arrelious Benn, Ifeanyi momah, B.J. Cunningham and Russell Shepard.
Footballguys view: Benn is a great blocker and could make the team because the Eagles should be run heavy in 2013. Shepard is a great athlete but still raw as a receiver coming out of LSU as an undrafted free agent. Cooper is tough but durability and consistency are question marks. Cunningham is a crisp route runner but offers little after the catch. |

Eagles | Jason Avant works with defense Sat May 18, 12:31 PM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jason Avant saw some time as a defensive back during organized team activities this week. Avant does not believe his work with the defense clouds his future with the team.
Footballguys view: Avant is battling for a roster spot at the end of the WR corps. Working on defensive back isn't a great sign for his security on the depth chart. Chip Kelly had TE Clay Harbor working on defense (OLB) too. |

Eagles | Riley Cooper to start on outside Thu Nov 29, 02:04 PM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper will start on the outside in place of WR DeSean Jackson (ribs). WR Jason Avant will move back into the slot in Week 13.
Footballguys view: Cooper goes from playing behind Maclin, to starting opposite Maclin. Fantasy owners hoping for more from Damaris Johnson are disappointed with this move. Cooper is a tough player who is fearless when running routes over the middle. Now on the outside we'll see if Cooper can gain enough separation for QB Nick Foles to feel comfortable throwing him the ball. |
