News you need to know

From Mark Wimer's Monday injury report (Mon Jan 25): Davis suffered a broken right forearm during the game on Sunday - he's undergoing surgery on Monday with an eye to attempting to play in the Super Bowl. Davis will be evaluated further and receive treatment from the team's trainers as the bye week goes along (he'll likely have to wear a cast if he is able to play in the Super Bowl). This is a developing story as of Monday afternoon, January 25.

General News (Fri Feb 5): practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this week.

General News (Fri Feb 5): will start Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, Feb. 7, according to head coach Ron Rivera, after suffering a broken forearm in the NFC Championship Game. "Yes, yes I do (expect Davis to start) based on everything I'm seeing from him right now and what the doctors have talked about -- they talk about him every day and we go over everything he's done and what they're seeing. That's been a huge plus." Rivera said. "He actually took a shot in the arm yesterday and said 'I'm fine. That felt pretty good.'"

General News (Thu Feb 4): practiced fully on Thursday.

General News (Wed Feb 3): practiced fully on Wednesday.

General News (Tue Feb 2): had a plate put into his broken forearm during surgery Monday, Jan. 25, but head coach Ron Rivera can't imagine that Davis won't play in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. Davis said he could be limited in the game, but he has every intention of playing in the game. He returned to practice and used a cast Monday, Feb. 1.

Panthers | No limitations for Thomas Davis? (Sun Feb 7, 01:38 PM) - Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) isn't expected to be limited in Super Bowl 50, according to head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion. Davis will wear a pad on his arm but he will not wear a cast.

Our View: It's simply amazing that he's going to be able to play with this injury. Davis is a bad ass, and he's certainly proving that by playing in the Super Bowl...doctors think what he's doing is near superhuman.

Panthers | Thomas Davis expected to start (Fri Feb 5, 12:50 PM) - Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) is expected to start in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Ron Rivera. 'Yes, yes I do (expect Davis to start) based on everything I'm seeing from him right now and what the doctors have talked about -- they talk about him every day and we go over everything he's done and what they're seeing. That's been a huge plus.' Rivera said. 'He actually took a shot in the arm yesterday and said 'I'm fine. That felt pretty good.''

Our View: Davis has overcome three ACL tears. Whatever limitations this injury puts on his abilities should be balanced out by the intensity of the moment and medicine/equipment to allow Davis to operate the way he normally would on the field.

Panthers | Super Bowl practice report for Thursday (Thu Feb 4, 07:36 PM) - Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) and LB Thomas Davis (forearm) participated fully in practice Thursday, Feb. 4.

Our View: Both are playing in the Super Bowl, but they might be on limited snap counts based on these injuries. Allen may be a part-time pass-rusher for the Panthers, while Davis might get a few snaps off here and there.
