NFL | Christian Hackenberg changing sports    Sun Jun 14, 08:33 AM

Free-agent QB Christian Hackenberg (AAF) said that he has moved on from football and is now attempting to begin a career in professional baseball as a pitcher.

Footballguys view: Drew Henson was once a top baseball prospect and football prospect, but played baseball first and then ended up being traded from the Texans, who took him in the sixth round, to the Cowboys for a third-round pick. Hackenberg is going in the opposite order and was once a top high school baseball player at Fork Union Military Academy.

NFL | Christian Hackenberg alters mechanics    Thu Feb 7, 09:12 PM

Alliance of American Football QB Christian Hackenberg said he has fixed a mechanical flaw with his throwing motion thanks to the help of David Lee, his quarterbacks coach with the Memphis Express.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg failed to make it in the pros, despite being a second-round pick of the Jets a few years ago. He's bounced around the NFL and now will try to resurrect his career in the AAF.

Eagles | Philly adds Christian Hackenberg    Sun Aug 12, 04:12 PM

Free-agent QB Christian Hackenberg (Raiders) signed an undisclosed deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Other than punchlines, this probably means nothing. Nick Foles is having back spasms and the team is taking it slow with Carson Wentz, so the team might want another camp body.

CFL | Edmonton interested in Christian Hackenberg    Sat Jun 23, 09:48 AM

Free-agent QB Christian Hackenberg (Raiders) has been added to a negotiation list by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League, according to a league source. CFL teams can have up to 45 players on their negotiation list, giving them exclusive negotiating rights, and the players can be added or removed from the list at any time.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg, a second-round pick in 2016, did not see the field for the Jets in two years. He didn't last very long (around a month) with the Raiders in 2018 and now may have to go to Canada to get on the football field. We doubt he does much in the CFL and his chances of returning to the NFL and doing anything of note is slim to none.

Raiders | Christian Hackenberg waived    Tue Jun 12, 04:47 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Christian Hackenberg was waived Tuesday, June 12, according to a source.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg trade conditions    Sat May 26, 10:14 PM

The New York Jets will only receive a seventh-round pick from the Oakland Raiders as part of the Christian Hackenberg trade if Hackenberg makes Oakland's roster out of training camp and remains on the roster during the season.

Footballguys view: That means the Jets may not receiving anything for Hackenberg. He was so bad with the Jets over two years that he couldn't see the field. The Raiders don't have much behind starter Derek Carr, but we could see Connor Cook and E.J. Manuel both prove to be better than Hackenberg in camp.

Raiders | Oakland acquires Christian Hackenberg    Tue May 22, 04:43 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg was acquired by the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, May 22, in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The Raiders don't have much behind starter Derek Carr. Connor Cook or Christian Hackenberg (or E.J. Manuel) isn't a great group of quarterbacks, but that's what the Raiders have after this move. Hackenberg was so bad with the Jets that he couldn't even see the field for two years.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg traded to Raiders    Tue May 22, 04:41 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg was traded to the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, May 22, in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The Jets have Sam Darnold as their QB of the future, and Hackenberg was so bad that he never saw the field in two years. They'll use Josh McCown as the starter until Darnold is ready, and Teddy Bridgewater is there as a third-string reclamation project.

Jets | Todd Bowles out of the loop?    Sun May 6, 09:20 PM

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he learned about the changes to QB Christian Hackenberg's throwing motion after the fact, but a source said the team was fully aware of the changes.

Footballguys view: Why would Bowles be dialed in on Hackenberg's motion? The optics may look bad, but the reality of the situation is that Hackenberg may be playing for another team in 2018. The Jets have Josh McCown as their starter, Sam Darnold as their quarterback of the future and Teddy Bridgewater as a third-string 'flier' quarterback. There's simply no room for Hackenberg on the roster with the current lineup.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg reworking delivery    Thu May 3, 09:22 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has been working with quarterback coach Jeff Christensen this offseason in an attempt to rework his throwing motion.

Footballguys view: The Jets are now stacked at the quarterback position and Hackenberg is fourth on the depth chart at best. Josh McCown may begin the season as the starter while rookie Sam Darnold is clearly the franchise quarterback of the future. Behind those two is Teddy Bridgewater, and who knows if he'll be traded away later this year or not as he's only on a one-year deal and clearly not part of the long-term picture. Hackenberg has not yet seen the field in two years as a pro.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg's status uncertain    Sun Mar 4, 11:54 AM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg's status with the team likely will depend on what the team does at quarterback during free agency.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg has not been able to get on the field in two years. A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Hackenberg's accuracy problems have plagued him as a pro. The team is likely to make a big move for a quarterback in free agency or the first round of the draft.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg to make Week 17 cameo?    Wed Dec 27, 09:12 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg could get his first career playing time in the regular season when the club plays its finale Sunday, Dec. 31, versus the New England Patriots. When asked if Hackenberg could see action in the contest, head coach Todd Bowles said, 'We'll see.' Bowles added that he'd make his decision 'probably sometime during the game.'

Footballguys view: The Jets drafted Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft but he hasn't been good enough to see the field. They need to see what he can do with some regular season snaps to determine what his future with the team is (as a backup). We're expecting a ton of changes for the Jets this offseason and the QB room should get an overhaul.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg relatively better    Thu Aug 31, 10:29 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg had a relatively better performance than his past preseason showings, completing 10-of-22 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the team's final preseason game Thursday, August 31, versus the Philadelphia Eagles. He also threw no interceptions.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg might have to start sooner than later with Josh McCown's injury history and Bryce Petty already being hurt.

Jets | Quarterbacks splitting first-team reps for Jets    Thu Aug 24, 05:53 PM

New York Jets QBs Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty split first-team repetitions during practice this week. A started has not officially been named yet for the regular season.

Footballguys view: The team keeps saying Josh McCown is the starter (well, Head coach Todd Bowles at least) but he's not getting reps which means he is unlikely to play against the Giants. Which means.... the Jets still have no clue what they are doing. Maybe trying to remove all doubt Hackenberg is a bust. Avoid the passing offense of this team at all costs.

Jets | NYJ starting QB to be named next week    Mon Aug 21, 07:00 PM

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg have been competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and head coach Todd Bowles said he will name the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: McCown is the safe veteran, while Hackenberg is the guy who couldn't get on the field as a rookie in 2016. No matter who wins the job, neither is going to be fantasy relevant this year.

Jets | Two Jets QBs split snaps    Thu Aug 17, 06:16 PM

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg split snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: There's no reason for anyone but Christian Hackenberg to be starting for the Jets. They're not in contention for Super Bowl, they don't need a ton of wins, they need to find out whether they have a quarterback in Hackenberg. There is also no reason for either Jets quarterback to be on your fantasy team. They are all pretty much equally awful for Fantasy purposes. Avoid at all costs.

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg received some snaps with the first-team offense during practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg was so bad last year that he couldn't make it onto the field as a rookie. He's better this year according to reports, but there was only one way for him to go. Hackenberg, a second-round pick in 2016, is competing with Josh McCown and Bryce Petty for the starting job.

Jets | Decent outing for Christian Hackenberg     Sun Aug 13, 12:06 AM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg completed 18 of his 25 pass attempts for 127 yards against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12, and he has 'some positives he can build from,' according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Hackenberg was a second-round pick for the Jets last year but he couldn't see the field as a rookie. This year, he is competing with the likes of Josh McCown and Bryce Petty for the starting job with the Jets. No matter who wins the job, there's not much fantasy value coming from the Jets QB in 2017.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg off to solid start    Mon Jul 31, 10:02 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has not thrown an interception during the first three practices of training camp. Hackenburg has held onto the ball too long at times.

Footballguys view: The translation for 'solid start' when it comes to Hackenberg is 'he's not atrocious' in practice. Hackenberg is the primary competition for Josh McCown in training camp. Fantasy owners are not finding value in the Jets QBs this year.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg overhauls footwork    Thu Jun 29, 09:26 AM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has pleased the team with his overhauled footwork, but he's not consistent enough yet.

Footballguys view: There's an air of distrust around the Jets quarterback position, especially since we all wonder why Hackenberg couldn't get on the field last season instead of the terrible options the Jets had. Yes, sad Ryan Fitzpatrick, that includes you. Reports that Hackenberg was terribly inaccurate (and hitting reporters on the sideline) this spring only make Jets fans more nervous. We're suggesting everyone stay away from most of the Jets offense this year, especially the passing offense. It's too volatile to spend more than a late pick, and we won't be touching Hackenberg with a 100-yard pole.

Jets | Josh McCown losing grip on starting gig?    Sun Jun 18, 08:13 PM

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg made some strides during minicamp, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post, and Costello believes Hackenberg could beat out QB Josh McCown to be the Week 1 starter.

Footballguys view: Sounds like Hackenberg is hitting fewer reporters on the sidelines during Jets mandatory minicamp. The Jets are tanking and the best way to get into a top pick in next year's draft is to start Hackenberg. Sam Darnold (USC) or Josh Allen (Wyoming) should get used to the idea of playing for the Jets.
