Eagles | Carson Wentz should be ready for workouts    Sun Jan 20, 02:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is expected to be healthy enough to be a full participant when offseason workouts start in April, according to sources.

Footballguys view: With Nick Foles likely to be tagged and traded, Wentz is the clear cut guy for the Eagles...and for good reason. He just needs to stay healthy in order to produce at the expected level. Wentz hasn't played a full 16-game season since his rookie year in 2016.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski eyeing Hollywood?    Sun Jan 20, 01:25 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will mull retirement this offseason, and instead of pursuing a WWE wrestling career, movies/acting would be a likelier choice.

Footballguys view: Gronkowski may not play football in 2019. If that's the case, it wouldn't surprise us to see him pursue other careers outside of football. Gronk as an action star would be quite the sight to behold.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes could receive big extension    Sun Jan 20, 12:48 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will be able to sign a contract extension after the 2019 season and could become the first NFL player to receive a $200 million contract, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Mahomes was outstanding in his first season as the Chiefs starter, throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. The Chiefs do have him under control through the 2021 season (with the fifth-year option) but wrapping him up early may actually save them money over waiting and having his price skyrocket even further.

NFL | Kareem Hunt receiving interest    Sun Jan 20, 12:23 PM

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Chiefs) is receiving interest from multiple teams and could sign with a team in the near future, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Hunt is facing a lengthy suspension from the league. Before he plays, Hunt needs to be taken off the Commissioner's Exempt List. Some speculate a team like the Bears could have interest in Hunt because head coach Matt Nagy coached him in Kansas City when he was the OC there.

Patriots | Sony Michel eyeing repeat feat    Sun Jan 20, 12:07 PM

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel has his sights on another big outing Sunday, Jan. 20, in the AFC Championship Game after rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. The Chiefs ranked 27th in rushing yards allowed and 31st in yards per carry during the regular season. 'It's like taking a test,' Michel said Friday. 'If you walk into the class and you're prepared for it, you're going to ace it. If you walk in not prepared, now you're nervous and you feel like you're going to fail. It's all about what I did this week, and I'm ready for ... this Sunday.'

Chiefs | Tyreek Hill could receive extension    Sun Jan 20, 10:42 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to work out a contract extension with WR Tyreek Hill during the offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Any extension should make Hill one of the highest paid receivers in football. With Patrick Mahomes still operating on his rookie deal (and under team control through 2021) the Chiefs have a window to wrap up key players like Hill, Dee Ford and Chris Jones.

Chiefs | Chris Jones could receive extension    Sun Jan 20, 10:09 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to work out a long-term contract extension with DE Chris Jones during the offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Jones was third in the league with 15.5 sacks in 2018. He's set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020 and the Chiefs may want to just get him wrapped up ASAP. They'll have some salary cap work to do with guys like Tyreek Hill and Dee Ford set for big pay days in the near future.

Chiefs | Dee Ford could get franchised    Sun Jan 20, 10:02 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly considering giving the franchise tag to DE Dee Ford, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Ford, a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, had 13.0 sacks in 2018 and is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. The projected salary for a franchise-tagged OLB is around $15.6 million. According to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs have around $35.9 million in cap space for 2019 at this time.

NFL | Kareem Hunt investigations close to ending?    Sun Jan 20, 09:12 AM

Although there is no official deadline, multiple sources believe that the National Football League will wrap up their investigations into three incidents involving free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Chiefs) before the start of free agency in March.

Footballguys view: Hunt has been undergoing counseling but is still facing a long suspension from the league. Before he can play, Hunt needs to be reinstated from the commissioner's exempt list. Some are speculating a team like the Bears (with former Chiefs OC Matt Nagy as head coach) could be Hunt's landing spot.

Chiefs | Tyreek Hill torching press coverage    Sun Jan 20, 02:43 AM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill is averaging 4.1 yards per route against press coverage - best in a season by any player since 2016 (minimum 100 routes).

Footballguys view: Press coverage is a risky proposition against Hill. He's got the quickness to beat the jam at the line of scrimmage and Hill's speed means he can get by defenders and pull away.

Raiders | Jalen Richard busy out of backfield    Sat Jan 19, 11:47 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Jalen Richard's 68 catches in 2018 ranked seventh among running backs, and his 607 receiving yards were the sixth most at the position,

Footballguys view: A restricted free agent in 2019, Richard is expected to return to the team next season. If that happens, Richard's role should be the same for the Raiders next season.

Vikings | Dominant year for Danielle Hunter    Sat Jan 19, 11:40 PM

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott a more complete back    Sat Jan 19, 11:30 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's 77 catches in 2018 ranked 22nd in the NFL and were the fifth most among running backs.

Footballguys view: No word on who is going to take over as the Cowboys OC but Elliott is going to remain the key piece of what they do. He should be in line for 75-plus catches in 2019.

Browns | Nick Chubb showed explosiveness    Sat Jan 19, 11:07 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb's four runs of 40-plus yards and 11 runs of 20-plus yards in 2018 both ranked second in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Chubb gained a first down on 24.5 percent of his carries in 2018, good for 14th best in the league at the running back position. He didn't really get going for the Browns until Week 7 and ended up just four yards short of 1,000 rushing yards as a rookie.

Cardinals | Antoine Bethea stands out among DBs    Sat Jan 19, 11:03 PM

Falcons | Austin Hooper solid across the board    Sat Jan 19, 10:47 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper's 71 receptions in 2018 were the fourth most among tight ends, and he also ranked seventh in receiving yards (660) and tied for ninth in touchdowns (4) at the position.

Footballguys view: Hooper was the no.7 fantasy tight end in 2018 in standard scoring leagues. The Falcons have made changes to their offense already, mainly firing Steve Sarkisian as offensive coordinator. We'll see how Dirk Koetter runs the offense now as OC in 2019, but he does know how to best use his tight ends.

Buccaneers | O.J. Howard stretching the field    Sat Jan 19, 10:27 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard (foot, ankle) was limited to 10 games in 2018, but his 11 receptions of 20-plus yards were the fifth most among tight ends.

Footballguys view: Howard only played in 10 games in 2018 but he finished 13th in the NFL with 565 receiving yards. It's going to be interesting to see how he fits into the plans of new Bucs head coach Bruce Arians. During his time in Arizona, Arians didn't really use the tight end as much as other offenses.

Bengals | Joe Mixon bringing consistency    Sat Jan 19, 10:16 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon finished fourth in the NFL with 1,168 rushing yards in 2018, running for at least 50 yards in 13 of his 14 games and topping 80 rushing yards nine times.

Footballguys view: Mixon's consistency makes him a safe RB1 for Fantasy GMs. In 2018, Mixon ranked 9th in the league with an average of 3.05 yards before contact. Mixon is able to take advantage of that space and turn it into positive yards. The Bengals offense may look a little different in 2019 but Mixon should remain the centerpiece of what they do on the ground.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd made big plays    Sat Jan 19, 09:46 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd's 21 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2018 were the seventh most in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Boyd did a lot of the work on those plays on his own. His air yards per target (9.52 yards) ranked only 60th in the NFL in 2018. However, his 407 yards after the catch ranked 30th in the league last season. Boyd should continue to be the deep threat for the Bengals opposite superstar WR A.J. Green.

Cowboys | Blake Jarwin flashes late in year    Sat Jan 19, 09:18 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin had at least four catches and 40 yards in three of his final four regular season games, and he had 20 of his 27 catches and 228 of his 307 receiving yards during that stretch.

Footballguys view: Dynasty GMs need to monitor Jarwin or just pick him up if roster space is deep enough. This is especially important in TE premium leagues. No word on who is going to run the Cowboys offense just yet, but Jarwin has good chemistry with Dark Prescott and has TE2 upside.

Panthers | Devin Funchess not expected back    Sat Jan 19, 03:24 PM

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent WR Devin Funchess likely will not re-sign with the Panthers this offseason because of WR D.J. Moore's performance during the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick of the Panthers in 2015, Funchess has been overshadowed by younger and more explosive talent at the position like Moore. In 2018, Funchess played in 14 games nabbed 44 passes for 549 yards and four receiving touchdowns. There should be a market for his services, just not a white-hot market in our opinion.

Broncos | Denver to look at Joe Flacco, Nick Foles?    Sat Jan 19, 01:42 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco and Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles could receive interest from the Denver Broncos this offseason, in the opinion of 9News.com's Mike Klis.

Footballguys view: The Broncos now know that Case Keenum is not the long-term answer at the quarterback position. GM John Elway does not want to rebuild, so that means competing in arguably the toughest division in football the AFC West. Flacco has a big arm and could work in Rich Scangarello's Shanahan-like system...like he did under Gary Kubiak in 2014. Foles, a favorite of the Broncos brass dating back to his days in college, could find himself in the Mile High City to take over as the starter. Either move would likely mean the team moves on from Keenum.

Colts | Indy adds Gabe Holmes    Sat Jan 19, 01:19 PM

The Indianapolis Colts signed TE Gabe Holmes to a Reserve/Futures contract Saturday, Jan. 19. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Purdue in 2015, Holmes has bounced around the league during his time in the pros. Measuring in at 6'5" 255 pounds, Holmes played in 10 career games (four starts) during his time with the Arizona Cardinals (2017-18), Baltimore Ravens (2017), Seattle Seahawks (2017) and Oakland Raiders (2015-16).

Buccaneers | DeSean Jackson not expected back    Sat Jan 19, 01:12 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson probably will not return to the Buccaneers next season even though head coach Bruce Arians hopes he stays on the roster, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Footballguys view: We just don't see Jackson staying with the Buccaneers. He could move on and perhaps wind up back in Philadelphia as a deep threat. Speaking of deep threats, don't be surprised if John Brown finds his way to Tampa to reunite with Arians. 'Smoke' Brown was a good player for Arians during their time with the Cardinals.

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch said on HBO's 'Real Time with Bill Maher' that he is open to playing in 2019 under the right circumstances.

Footballguys view: Lynch is set to be a free agent in 2019. In six games in 2018, Lynch had 90 carries for 376 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Raiders. He'll be 33-years old in April of 2019 and may think he's got something left in the tank.
