Raiders | Clive Walford should be ready for camp    Tue May 24, 04:48 PM

Oakland Raiders TE Clive Walford (knee) is expected to be cleared well before the beginning of training camp. He did not participate in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: All signs point to this whole "lacerated knee" thing as being quite minor. Walford is one of our favorite young TEs in the league. He's a TE2 for fantasy owners this year, but the upside to be a top-12 fantasy TE is there with the athletic Walford.

Titans | Kendall Wright is heavier    Tue May 24, 04:26 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright said he feels more explosive at his current 195 pounds, 12 pounds heavier than he was last season.

Footballguys view: This is good news for Wright as he's been a player to get banged up too often. The Titans are going to use their "exotic smashmouth" offense to move the ball mostly on the ground, so we see Wright as low-end WR5 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is WR59 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston talks up Kenny Bell    Tue May 24, 03:54 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Kenny Bell gives the Buccaneers a big-play threat who can stretch the field, according to QB Jameis Winston. Winston expects big things from Bell in 2016.

Footballguys view: Our very own Matt Waldman was high on Bell last year with the talented WR came out of Nebraska. Bell was a fifth-round pick of the Bucs last year in the draft, but he missed his rookie season after a preseason hamstring injury knocked him out for the year. He didn't have any receptions in two preseason games, but know that Bell's natural talent could come through this year and beyond. He's a competitive player who can make difficult catches seem routine. He'll be the Bucs WR3 this year behind Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson.

Broncos | Virgil Green had surgery    Tue May 24, 03:40 PM

Denver Broncos TE Virgil Green (finger) had surgery on his finger and will miss most of organized team activities, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Footballguys view: An interesting tidbit revealed today after practice. Green has been an underused receiver to this point in his pro career. A seventh-round pick in 2011, Green had a career-high 12 catches in 2015. This surgery is going to give second-year TE Jeff Heuerman a chance to emerge in the TE-friendly Kubiak system.

Broncos | Trevor Siemian takes first-team reps    Tue May 24, 03:34 PM

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian started with the first-team offense for the first day of organized team activities. Head coach Gary Kubiak said the quarterback competition is open but praised all of the quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: Siemian has more experience under Kubiak than does rookie Paxton Lynch or veteran Mark Sanchez. The second-year pro has a big arm, but he struggles with accuracy. The team is quickly grooming Lynch to take over as the starter. If he plays up to his potential, Siemian is merely a backup-caliber QB.

Titans | Marcus Mariota has added weight    Tue May 24, 03:19 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota is up to 225 pounds from the 210 pounds he weighed last year. Mariota said he'd like to stay at 225 pounds.

Footballguys view: That's good for a player who may take more hits since he's a runner. Mariota turned in a strong rookie campaign last year, but he was hurt with two MCL injuries in his first season. Being heavier should help him absorb the NFL punishment he'll get on Sundays.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert a valuable scorer    Tue May 24, 03:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) scored on 18.6% of his 70 targets (13 touchdowns). No one with at least 20 targets had a higher percentage of targets result in touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Eifert's availability for the start of the regular season is unknown at this time due to his ankle surgery. Why does anyone play in the Pro Bowl? The NFL should just have players grab a controller and play Madden Ultimate Team to a live audience instead.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell deflects injury proneness    Tue May 24, 02:54 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) doesn't believe each of his three injuries in each of his first three seasons in the NFL isn't indicative of him being injury prone. Bell said he's still going to be physical but protect himself at the same time.

Footballguys view: Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and you have a duck. Bell may be correct, but we could write 2,000 words on how there may or may not be anything such as injury prone when it comes to pro athletes. One thing is certain; Bell needs to stay healthy and produce at a high level for the Steelers this year. If healthy, there's no question that he can do just that.

  Steelers | Le'Veon Bell full-go by camp?    Tue May 24, 02:41 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he will be 100% healthy by training camp. He has already participated in individual drills during organized team activities, including running and cutting, as he continues to recover from a torn medial collateral ligament.

Footballguys view: This the most positive report we've seen about Bell this offseason. The team has been wisely cautious with their star RB, but he's trying to recover from major knee surgery he had last November. We'll see if he's ready by the start of training camp. If not, the team could continue to limit him through camp and the preseason.

Broncos | DeMarcus Ware doesn't practice    Tue May 24, 02:33 PM

Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware (back) did not participate in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24. He could return Wednesday, May 25, though.

Footballguys view: The team is just taking a precautionary stance with the future Hall of Fame pass-rusher. His back injury forced him out of the lineup for a few games last year, so the Broncos want to be careful. Fantasy owners need to note we'll see a larger role for LBs Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett this year as Ware becomes more of a part-time player.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert may miss Week 1    Tue May 24, 02:20 PM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) may not be ready for the start of the regular season, according to a source. Eifert will have surgery on his injured ankle in the near future. His expected recovery time is three months.

Footballguys view: Eifert suffered this injury during the Pro Bowl, but the team just decided to put him under the knife now. The Bengals are already short on targets with WRs Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) and Marvin Jones (Lions) moving on in free agency. When healthy, Eifert is a star TE and top-5 fantasy prospect at his position. Keep an eye on this situation as camp approaches. We think Eifert may skip the preseason in order to try and be ready for the start of the regular season.

Raiders | Sign two wide receivers    Tue May 24, 02:07 PM

Free-agent WRs Robert Herron (Dolphins) and Nathan Palmer (Bears) were signed by the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: Herron is the player to watch here in super deep dynasty leagues. He's a sharp route-runner who has spent time with the Bucs and the Dolphins. Both are competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree.

Titans | Byron Bell out for the year    Tue May 24, 02:00 PM

Tennessee Titans OG Byron Bell (ankle) dislocated his ankle during organized team activities Tuesday, May 24, and he'll miss the entire 2016 season.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert to have ankle surgery    Tue May 24, 01:43 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) will undergo a 'minimal procedure' on his left ankle soon, and he is expected to need three months to recover, according to multiple sources.

Footballguys view: Eifert initially injured the ankle in the Pro Bowl and initial estimates for his recovery were promising, but his ankle hasn't responded since.

Broncos | Devontae Booker close to 100%    Tue May 24, 01:26 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (knee) has been doing almost all of the drills the other running backs are doing in organized team activities, and it looks like he's close to 100% in his recovery from a knee injury in college.

Footballguys view: Booker said earlier this year that he's about 90 percent healthy. While he wants to 'take someone's job' Booker is more likely to be a three-down-back-in-waiting for the Broncos in 2016. If C.J. Anderson stays healthy, he's likely to get the largest workload of his football career with Booker playing a reserve role--and competing for touches with Ronnie Hillman.

Broncos | Mark Sanchez participating in drills    Tue May 24, 01:23 PM

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez (thumb) is doing just about everything the other quarterbacks are doing in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24. Sanchez isn't taking snaps under center, however.

Footballguys view: Sanchez can't take snaps from under center right now as he's recovering from thumb surgery on his non-throwing hand. He's competing for the starting job in Denver and got off to a rough start at OTAs on Tuesday as his second pass of practice was intercepted by LB Corey Nelson.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell says he'll be ready    Tue May 24, 01:19 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee), who is recovering from surgery for a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, said he plans on making a full return in time for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Bell has confidence that he'll be ready, but we're not so sure. He had major knee surgery back in November of last year, and his status for the start of training camp is up in the air. Bell himself may be ready, but the team may want to ease him into action later this year.

Bills | Sammy Watkins on crutches    Tue May 24, 12:51 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was seen on crutches with his left foot in a boot during organized team activities Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: He's still on crutches and might be for a little while longer. General manager Doug Whaley said Watkins is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Giants | Victor Cruz targeting training camp    Tue May 24, 12:50 PM

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) jogged around the practice field Tuesday, May 24, as the team is targeting around training camp for him to return to full participation.

Footballguys view: It's a good sign that he's off to the side doing some work, but we'll believe it when we see it. Cruz is a favorite of everyone, but major injuries could have robbed him of his once-promising future.

Panthers | Brenton Bersin has good first day    Tue May 24, 12:49 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Brenton Bersin made plays down the seam often in the first day of practice Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: Bersin has a good size/speed combination, but he's a long shot to make much of an impact for the Panthers this year.

Bills | Marcell Dareus not at workouts    Tue May 24, 12:49 PM

Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus (foot) is not present for the start of organized team activities Tuesday, May 24, but head coach Rex Ryan is not concerned.

Footballguys view: We learned earlier this year that Dareus had undergone surgery on his broken foot, but he was supposed to be cleared in time for OTAs. Ryan said Dareus has taken part in roughly '90%' of offseason activities and has been a 'fixture.'

Bills | Charles Clay out of action    Tue May 24, 12:44 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (undisclosed) was absent from practice Tuesday, May 24, with an undisclosed injury. Head coach Rex Ryan doesn't think Clay's injury is serious.

Footballguys view: This is not a good way for Clay to begin his second season with the Bills. Last year, Clay was held back by injury and turned in a disappointing season. With WR Sammy Watkins (foot) banged up (and not much behind him at WR), the Bills could certainly use Clay in a larger role as a receiver in 2016.

Jaguars | Jermey Parnell fractures hand    Tue May 24, 12:44 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Jermey Parnell (hand) suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left hand during organized team activities Monday, May 23.

Footballguys view: Another day, and another injury for the Jaguars. This injury is not considered major, and Parnell will continue to work during individual drills. He will be limited for the rest of team activities and minicamp.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey will return for camp    Tue May 24, 11:49 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars CB/S Jalen Ramsey (knee) underwent surgery on his meniscus Tuesday, May 24, and he's expected to return in time for training camp.

Footballguys view: That's great news for the Jaguars. Ramsey is a player who doesn't need to come off the field. The rookie can roam the field as a free safety with a ball-hawking mentality. He can play slot corner if needed, and Ramsey isn't afraid to mix it up near the line of scrimmage in run support.

Patriots | Dion Lewis optimistic for Week 1    Tue May 24, 11:30 AM

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has given signs of optimism for being ready for the start of the season. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about a month away from being able to play in a game.

Footballguys view: Lewis showed last year just how productive he could be in this system before he went down with this injury. The team will be wisely cautious with him, and his repetitions in organized team activities will be limited at best. If healthy, we see Lewis as a RB2 with RB1 upside in the Patriots high-powered offense.

Bengals | Dwight Freeney to visit Bengals    Tue May 24, 11:23 AM

Free-agent LB/DE Dwight Freeney (Cardinals) will visit the Cincinnati Bengals this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This would be an interesting (and potentially really good) fit for Freeney. The veteran pass-rusher is best suited to be a situational player at this point in his career. If he signed with the Bengals, Freeney would be a rotational player behind rushers Michael Johnson and Carlos Dunlap. Freeney wants to sign with a contender, and the Bengals are certainly built like a team that can make a deep postseason run.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews sitting out    Tue May 24, 10:47 AM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (illness) is out of practice Tuesday, May 24, due to illness.

Footballguys view: Mathews should be back soon for the Eagles. Injuries are a concern with the talented veteran, but missing practice on Tuesday is not a big deal. If healthy, Mathews can perform like a low-end RB2. His current ADP is RB26 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Rueben Randle has surgery    Tue May 24, 10:47 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle (gallbladder) is out of practice Tuesday, May 24, due to a recent gallbladder surgery.

Footballguys view: That's not going to help his chances to make the 53-man roster. He never played up to his potential and was wildly inconsistent during his time with the Giants. Randle needs to get healthy and prove that he belongs on the Eagles, but even if he does make the team we're not expecting him to make any sort of fantasy impact.

Panthers | Vernon Butler tweaks knee    Tue May 24, 10:04 AM

Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler (knee) tweaked his left knee running downfield Tuesday, May 24, but he is trying to walk it off.

Footballguys view: Butler was the team's first-round pick this year, and he gives them even more strength up front on the defensive line. If healthy, the rookie can work in a rotation on the line. He's got length, strength and tenacity when getting after the quarterback.

Link to story

Bills | Sammy Watkins expected for opener    Tue May 24, 09:52 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is expected to be ready for Week 1, but the team doesn't have a target date for his return set, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Footballguys view: Watkins is on crutches right now which is not unexpected given his foot surgery. He is likely to be limited in camp and we may not even see Watkins in the preseason as he recovers.

Ravens | Three Ravens RBs for one spot    Tue May 24, 02:36 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB Terrance West and RB Trent Richardson are likely to compete for one roster spot in training camp.

Footballguys view: This is a group of has-beens and never-weres, but it will be interesting to see who emerges. Richardson has the highest upside, but his career has been knocked off track by injuries and lack of motivation. The former no.3 overall pick (2012) has worked hard this offseason to reshape his body in an effort to play up to his potential. We're not counting on Richardson here, but he may be the most likely to emerge if he truly has "gotten it."

Broncos | Adam Gotsis should be ready for camp    Mon May 23, 10:28 PM

Denver Broncos DT Adam Gotsis (knee) should be ready to participate once training camp begins. Gotsis is expected to be part of the defensive line rotation in 2016.

Footballguys view: The team didn't replace DE Malik Jackson (Jaguars) in the draft as Gotsis is more like Derek Wolfe. It was a reach to take Gotsis in the second round, but the team is high on him and believes he can be a force as a pass-rusher. We'll see what his knee is like the closer we get to training camp.

Steelers | Eli Rogers could make roster    Mon May 23, 09:38 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers is not guaranteed a spot on the final roster, but he could receive some work as a slot receiver. The team was high on Rogers before the 2015 season but suffered an injury during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Super deep dynasty players should take note here. Rogers is small (5'10" 180 pounds) but was a playmaker in college at Louisville and could be a decent slot WR in the pros. He is currently behind Markus Wheaton, Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey on the depth chart.

Steelers | Pittsburgh may use two TEs in red zone    Mon May 23, 09:24 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TEs Ladarius Green and Jesse James may both be on the field at the same time in the red zone because of their height.

Footballguys view: That would make a lot of sense..especially since WR Martavis Bryant is suspended for the year. Green has a fine skill set, but he's never really played up to his full potential. The Steelers would like him to do that this year, but they also have the huge prospect (second-year TE Jesse James) to develop as well. James is raw at the position, but he's tall, has a large wingspan and can play 'above the rim' in the NFL.

Browns | Duke Johnson an every-down back?    Mon May 23, 09:22 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson believes RB Duke Johnson can be an every-down running back in the NFL. Johnson had a chance to win the starting job in 2015 but suffered a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Johnson may have the ability to be a full-time RB in the NFL, but he may be best suited playing a change-of-pace role. He's an explosive player who can be used similarly to the way Jackson used Gio Bernard when he was OC with the Bengals. Isaiah Crowell may be the lead back with Johnson working behind him.

Ravens | Joe Flacco will miss workouts    Mon May 23, 08:16 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) will miss all of the organized team activities this offseason because he is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely as Flacco returns from a major knee injury suffered late last year. Flacco said he has made big improvements in his recovery, and head coach John Harbaugh said Flacco should be ready for training camp. QB Ryan Mallett will work with the first-team offense during the workouts.

Saints | Drew Brees will report for workouts    Mon May 23, 08:07 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he will be on the field for organized team activities Tuesday, May 24, even though the two sides have not be able to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

Footballguys view: Brees is in the final year of his current deal, and he has a cap hit of $30 million in 2016. There's $20.8 million left in dead money on his deal, but the Saints may want to extend him to lower the total hit for this season. There's no reason for Brees to skip OTAs, so we're not shocked he's going to be at the facility.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler limited    Mon May 23, 08:00 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) was limited during organized team activities Monday, May 23, and will be limited again Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see Fowler fully healthy and rushing the passer. Fowler may be allowed to fully participate Thursday, May 26, if he does not have any problems with his knee after consecutive practices.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler wearing brace    Mon May 23, 05:55 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) is wearing a brace on his left knee to help protect the anterior cruciate ligament he tore last offseason.

Footballguys view: Fowler will be wearing that brace until he's fully comfortable coming back after missing all of his rookie season. The young pass-rusher said it felt good coming back, but he knows he still has work to do to make a full recovery.

Texans | More muscle for DeAndre Hopkins    Mon May 23, 05:46 PM

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins said he has gained more weight by adding muscle this offseason.

Footballguys view: Added strength should help Hopkins win contested catches. It may also help with his yards after contact. Last year, Hopkins tied for 107th in the league with only 57 yards after contact. By comparison, Falcons WR Julio Jones was the top wideout in the league with 261 yards after contact. Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski led all receivers in the league with 289 yards after contact in 2015.

Panthers | Jake McGee to IR    Mon May 23, 05:38 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Jake McGee (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, May 23, after being waived/injured Friday, May 20.

Footballguys view: McGee is a sixth-year collegian the Panthers picked up as a college free agent out of the University of Florida. No word on the injury, but he was a long-shot to make it in the NFL anyway and this injury situation won't help.

Saints | Waive Chris Highland    Mon May 23, 05:35 PM

New Orleans Saints LS Chris Highland was waived Monday, May 23.

Eagles | Make two roster moves    Mon May 23, 05:29 PM

Texans | Jadeveon Clowney full healthy     Mon May 23, 04:11 PM

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (foot) said he is at 100% health. Clowney dealt with a mid-foot sprain late last season but did not undergo offseason surgery.

Footballguys view: Are we sure about that? Clowney's pro career has been marred by injury, and he may never be the player the Texans envisioned when they selected him with the no.1 overall pick in 2014. If he is healthy, then he's going to be relied on to create pressure on opposing QBs opposite superstar DE J.J. Watt.

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) did not practice for the first day of organized team activities Monday, May 23, as he continues to recover from offseason groin surgery.

Footballguys view: Watt's a pro's pro. He doesn't need every offseason rep, but we're sure that as soon as he's ready he's going to be out there on the field.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon recovering well    Mon May 23, 03:17 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) participated in individual drills during organized team activities Monday, May 23, and is rehabilitating well from microfracture knee surgery he had in January.

Footballguys view: The Chargers and fantasy owners are holding their collective breath about Gordon. The speedy back can be the centerpiece of the Chargers offense if healthy. At this time, Gordon is expected to be ready for training camp later this year.

Giants | Sterling Shepard still impressing    Mon May 23, 02:43 PM

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard has caught everything so far during offseason activities, according to QB Eli Manning.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised. Shepard is an explosive athlete who has exciting run-after-the-catch ability. In college at Oklahoma, Shepard was known as a precise route-runner and as a player who his QB could rely on. We're expecting him to win the WR2 job for the Giants opposite Odell Beckham Jr. He's a WR5 for fantasy owners with the upside of at least a WR3/flex option in certain matchups.
