Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (collarbone) underwent surgery Monday, Oct. 20, to repair his broken collarbone. Head coach Doug Marrone said he will have to wait to hear from the doctors about a timetable.

Footballguys view: There's nothing official, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Spiller shut down for the year. He'll enter free agency next year coming off this collarbone injury. With his speed and big-play ability, there should be a few teams interested in the veteran back.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) will be reevaluated later in the week, according head coach Gus Bradley.

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) will reportedly return to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Footballguys view: Williams could come back, but fantasy owners are best off leaving him out of the lineup. He'll be splitting time with Jonathan Stewart, and we can't recommend him as anything more than a 'what the heck' flex in deep leagues.

New York Jets WR Percy Harvin's role on offense will depend on how fast he can learn the playbook, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said Harvin will return kicks for the team.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the team wants to force the ball to Harvin. They may look to use him in as many ways possible since they lack explosive players on their offense. Fantasy owners are best looking at Harvin as a WR3/flex play until we see what he can do with his new team.

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) is expected to be fine after leaving the team's Week 7 game because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the team decides to limit Richardson in practice this week. He had a good game against the Bengals in Week 7. The Colts offense is firing on all cylinders, so that makes Richardson a nice flex play or low-end RB2.

Bills | Fred Jackson hopes for quick return    Mon Oct 20, 01:32 PM

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) said he hopes to be able to return from his injury quicker than expected four-week time frame.

Footballguys view: Without Jackson, we're going to see some form of combination between Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown. Fantasy owners should wait and see how this split develops while Jackson is out. Brown is more physically talented than Dixon, but it's Dixon who is more decisive as a runner.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will travel with the team for their Week 8 game in London, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Footballguys view: That's good news for the Lions. Johnson has missed a couple of games due to this ankle injury, but he's taking his time to get closer to full strength. We've missed him, but it's best for the team (and fantasy owners) if Johnson waits it out.

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (pectoral) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list after he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Week 7.

Redskins | Robert Griffin to be tested Wednesday    Mon Oct 20, 12:39 PM

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (ankle) is expected to be put through a rigorous workout Wednesday, Oct. 22, that will give team officials a better idea of where he's at in his recovery. Griffin has already joined practices for stretching, warm-ups, individual drills and limited handoffs with the scout team. Head coach Jay Gruden has said he'd like to have Griffin log at least two weeks of practice before returning to a starting role. QB Colt McCoy appears to have the inside track to start in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys if it's between he and QB Kirk Cousins. "It's a good sign the way Colt finished the game, ran the offense," Gruden said, alluding to his poise and efficiency in engineering the game-winning touchdown drive on the last possession, which started with 3 minutes and 14 seconds remaining. "Very smart and very efficient. Did some good things."

Footballguys view: The Cousins time is almost over (if not already) in Washington. Gruden said in his press conference on Monday that Colt McCoy would actually get starter reps this week after replacing Cousins in Week 7. We'll see if Griffin can get back to practice and perform at an acceptable level so he can start on Monday Night Football in Week 8.

Bears | Jay Cutler turning ball over frequently    Mon Oct 20, 12:10 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler threw an interception and fumbled twice in the team's Week 7 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Cutler has turned the ball over multiple times in all four of the team's losses this year, but he hasn't turned the ball over once in any of the team's three wins.

Footballguys view: The opposition has had a field day when playing against the Bears. Opponents have scored 37 total points off Cutler's turnovers in 2014. The Dolphins sacked Cutler three times, and he somehow managed only 190 yards and a passing touchdown in Week 7.

Redskins | Robert Griffin could start in Week 8    Mon Oct 20, 12:04 PM

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (ankle) could start in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys if he looks really good in practice Wednesday, Oct. 22, according to a team source. The team would ideally like to hold him out another week in order to prepare.

Footballguys view: If we don't see Griffin this upcoming week, then Colt McCoy will likely receive the starting nod for the first time since December of 2011 when he was with the Cleveland Browns. McCoy threw a touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon on his first throw after replacing Kirk Cousins, but we're not excited about his prospects against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8.
