49ers | NaVorro Bowman had scheduled day off    Thu May 21, 07:06 PM

San Francisco 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman didn't practice Thursday, May 21, as he had a scheduled day off. Bowman is still working his way back from last season's knee injury.

Footballguys view: We'll see Bowman with more of these days off in the future. The team doesn't need to rush him back at the cost of re-aggravating his injury.

49ers | Carlos Hyde nursing injury    Thu May 21, 07:00 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (leg) is nursing a leg injury and did not practice Thursday, May 21. A timetable for his return was not disclosed.

Footballguys view: There's no word about what specifically this mysterious leg injury is. We'll know more if Hyde continues to miss time as offseason workouts continue. With Frank Gore moving on to the Colts, Hyde is set to be the bellcow back for the 49ers in 2015.

Falcons | Justin Hardy to be No. 3 WR for ATL?    Thu May 21, 06:50 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Justin Hardy is projected as the Falcons' No. 3 receiver behind WRs Julio Jones and Roddy White, according to's Gregg Rosenthal.

Footballguys view: With Harry Douglas in Tennessee, the Falcons needed to add another wide receiver to the mix and that's why Hardy was their fourth-round pick. Coming out of East Carolina, Hardy is a smart player who does the little things well. He'll come back to the football after sitting down in a zone. Hardy can also reach for passes and pluck them out of the air naturally. He's got large hands and a long wingspan that help him play bigger than his size.

Jets | NYJ to have tight end platoon    Thu May 21, 05:50 PM

New York Jets TEs Jeff Cumberland and Jace Amaro will both start this season, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said Cumberland would be lined up in the 'Y' position while Amaro would play the H-back and fullback positions.

Footballguys view: The 'Y' tight end is the more traditional (blocking) role. The 'H' tight end is the guy who will be moved around the field to create mismatches. Amaro has the athleticism to be a weapon in the new Chan Gailey offense. He's going undrafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues, but he's someone who should be on your waiver wire speed dial.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be ready for training camp    Thu May 21, 05:30 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) should be healthy enough for training camp as he continues to recover from knee surgery. Head coach Todd Bowles said Ridley is not ready for team drills, but participated in positional drills.

Footballguys view: Ridley is going to have to wait to prove himself until training camp. The veteran back will have to prove his value over guys like Chris Ivory and Zac Stacy. The Jets should run the ball quite a bit in order to help keep defenses honest for third-year quarterback Geno Smith.

Jaguars | Dante Fowler will have surgery    Thu May 21, 05:18 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) will undergo surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament sometime next week.

Footballguys view: It's hard to be a Jaguars fan when stuff like this happens. Hopefully, Fowler will be OK for next season, and the defense can soldier on without him this year. The Jaguars are a team that feels like it could be on the cusp of something good.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin nursing injury    Thu May 21, 04:55 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) is nursing a strained hamstring he suffered last week, according to a source. Benjamin is not likely to participate in organized team activities next week.

Footballguys view: Benjamin had an exceptionally good rookie season, enough to drive his early ADP up into the third round. If rookie Devin Funchess can duplicate Benjamin's first season just a little, Benjamin will have an easier time with opposing secondaries. We know Cam Newton likes him, and that goes a long way towards building opportunity and production. We like him as a lot as a WR2 for your fantasy team.

Saints | Andrus Peat signs rookie deal    Thu May 21, 03:15 PM

New Orleans Saints OT Andrus Peat signed his rookie contract with the team, according to sources. Peat has a four-year deal worth $11.39 million with a signing bonus of $6.546 million included.

Footballguys view: This can only help Drew Brees avoid being hammered this season. Ultimately, it appears that the Saints are aiming to be more run-friendly, and Peat would also be a huge addition towards that end.

Jets | Will use two tight ends    Thu May 21, 02:58 PM

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles plans to use a package with two tight ends, including TE Jeff Cumberland and TE Jace Amaro. Cumberland will be a traditional tight end and Amaro will line up in a halfback-style position.

Footballguys view: In other words, if you are inclined to take one of the two in fantasy, Amaro is your guy. Cumberland will get some targets, but mostly be a blocker type while Amaro will be more of a 'move' tight end, a position much better suited to fantasy production. Neither is currently being drafted, which makes them ideal free agent acquisitions. That could change this summer, and Amaro in particular could end up a strong TE2, if quarterback Geno Smith can progress this season.

Jets | Running back situation up in the air    Thu May 21, 02:51 PM

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said his team's running back situation may take until the preseason to sort out. RB's Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, Stevan Ridley and Daryl Richardson all have experience at the position, but no one has broken out yet.

Footballguys view: Bowles has no attachment to any of the previous regime's running backs - we're looking at you Powell and Ivory - but Ridley is coming off a significant leg injury and Stacy faded during last year. There's room for everyone to get carries which hurts everyone's value right now. Until we see how things shake out more in camp, this is a situation to avoid.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah contract breakdown    Thu May 21, 02:29 PM

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah signed a four-year, $4.16 million rookie contract that includes $2.29 million in guaranteed money. He received a $1.28 million signing bonus. Abdullah's 2015 and 2016 salaries are fully guaranteed at $435,000 and $573,915, respectively. He will receive a $50,000 reporting bonus in 2015 and workout bonuses of $50,000 in 2017 and 2018.

Footballguys view: Abdullah may start the season behind Joique Bell and Theo Riddick, but he's a real threat to steal carries by the end of it. He doesn't have the size and mass to be a three-down running back, but he's quick and accelerates fast. We can expect the other two backs (likely Bell) to get more of the short-yardage work, but Abdullah could see significant work otherwise. He is trending as a mid-round pick right now, and could rise up boards with a solid training camp.

Lions | Lance Moore contract details    Thu May 21, 02:22 PM

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Lance Moore signed a one-year contract worth $1.05 million. He will earn a base salary of $970,000 after receiving a $40,000 signing bonus. Moore will receive a $40,000 roster bonus if he makes the Lions' Week 1 roster. Earning the minimum salary benefit means Moore will count $655,000 against Detroit's 2015 salary cap.

Footballguys view: It's going to be hard for Moore to see much in the way of targets with Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Eric Ebron, who we are predicting a bigger sophomore season from. Right now he is nothing but a deep-round flier.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill contract breakdown    Thu May 21, 12:09 PM

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will earn $12.2 million in 2015, but only $745,000 of it will be in base salary. His 2016 base salary of $9.34 million is fully guaranteed. In 2017, the Dolphins will have five days into the league year to decide whether to fully guarantee his $17.47 million base salary, which essentially gives the Dolphins an opt-out if Tannehill struggles to meet expectations over the next two seasons. His contract contains no guaranteed money in 2019 and 2020, other than the prorated signing bonus, so Miami could save $17 million in 2019 and $18 million in 2020 by releasing him.

Footballguys view: So this is really a 2-3 year contract with no guaranteed money in the back half of it. The onus continues to be on Tannehill to prove he is a franchise quarterback. The Dolphins had to get something done, because even as an average quarterback, Tannehill is one of only 15-20 sure-fire starters in the NFL. His ADP in redraft is right in the middle of drafts - around round nine or ten - and we see him as just outside QB1 status.

Giants | William Beatty undergoes surgery    Thu May 21, 11:49 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Giants OT William Beatty (chest) underwent successful surgery Thursday, May 21, to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Beatty will need approximately five to six months of recovery time.

Footballguys view: The Giants had massive injury issues along the offensive line last season and this isn't going to help fans forget it. Beatty being out until sometime in November is a blow. However, with the Giants in the second year of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's up-tempo offense, they might be able to overcome. If Eli Manning can get the ball out of his hands quickly and not overthink the plays, the offense could get by and be effective.

Cowboys | Felix Jones to work out    Thu May 21, 11:45 AM

Free-agent RB Felix Jones (Steelers) is working out for the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, May 21.

Footballguys view: With oft-injured Darren McFadden the lead back, the Cowboys are looking to make sure they have enough backups. Jones is coming off of some staggeringly mediocre seasons with Dallas and Pittsburgh, so it's tough to see him having much impact with the Cowboys. If added, Jones would be reunited with McFadden, his former college teammate at Arkansas. Just add Peyton Hillis and you'll have the trio of Razorback teammates.

Saints | Two roster moves    Thu May 21, 11:10 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Andy Tanner was waived to make room for the addition of free-agent OG Mike McGlynn (Chiefs) Wednesday, May 20.

Footballguys view: This is merely a depth move. Tanner was unlikely to contribute much, if anything at all, while McGlynn is a a backup at best.

Patriots | Brandon Spikes signed    Thu May 21, 11:05 AM

Free-agent LB Brandon Spikes (Bills) has re-signed with the New England Patriots on a one-year deal worth up to $2 million through on-field incentives.

Footballguys view: He'll rotate in for the Patriots, but ultimately his overall impact will likely be small, assuming his stays on the roster past training camp.

NFL | Ray Rice's record cleared    Thu May 21, 10:55 AM

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) had his legal record cleared of the domestic violence charge after finishing a pretrial diversion program as part of the conditions of his sentencing for the 2014 legal matter.

Footballguys view: This might clear his legal record, but his public reputation remains heavily tarnished. Will teams add Rice and take the public relations hit? Rice was struggling a bit before all this happened, how much does he have left in the tank? At this time, Rice has an ADP of RB65 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Saints | Drew Brees discusses his future    Thu May 21, 10:25 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is entering his age-36 season and said playing until he is 45 years old might be 'overzealous.' Brees noted that '45 is a long way away.' He added, 'At different stages in your career, I just think you kind of reassess and reevaluate and try to set goals moving forward. It was just kind of one of those moments last year where my body felt great, felt like I had a great system in place with my training and my recovery and my diet and everything, gosh, why not?'

Footballguys view: The off-season moves the New Orleans Saints made point towards a shift in philosophy. It appears as if they will run the ball more and focus less on throwing as much as they did in the past. That might help Brees stick around for a longer career, but could cut down on his passing numbers. Brees' ADP is still as a top five quarterback (around the fifth round) but losing Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills while it's obvious the run game is getting beefed up is a concern.

Browns | Johnny Manziel a full-go in OTAs    Thu May 21, 10:20 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will fully participate in organized team activities starting Tuesday, May 26.

Footballguys view: Manziel is trying to work his way back after a disastrous rookie season. He checked out of rehab a while ago, and now Manziel will have to compete with veteran Josh McCown for the starting job. McCown has the leg up at this time, but Manziel could make his case with a strong performance in training camp and the preseason.

Cowboys | Ben Tate working out for Dallas    Thu May 21, 09:42 AM

Free-agent RB Ben Tate (Steelers) is working out for the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, May 21.

Footballguys view: Tate would be an interesting addition to the Cowboys' backfield. Currently, Darren McFadden can be penciled in as the starter but he's been so injury prone during his pro career that Dallas better have quality options behind him. Tate bounced between three different teams last year (CLE,MIN,PIT) and has gotten little interest on the open market.

Colts | Andre Johnson comfortable in offense    Thu May 21, 08:52 AM

Indianapolis Colts WR Andre Johnson has made a 'pretty seamless' transition to the offense, and he has a strong grasp of the playbook, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Johnson took snaps with the starters during organized team activities Wednesday, May 20.

Footballguys view: Good news for dynasty owners looking for a last season or two of production from Andre Johnson. We know he's fading, but he still nearly topped 1,000 yards last season despite a pretty bad quarterback situation in Houston. He looks to be in good position for a bounce-back year in Indianapolis with Andrew Luck throwing the ball and his current ADP hovers around the mid-fourth round for redraft purposes.

Colts | Frank Gore transitioning smoothly    Thu May 21, 08:37 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore was made a 'pretty seamless' transition to the Colts' offense and is displaying strong knowledge of the playbook, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Footballguys view: Gore is a huge upgrade over what passed for a run game over the last few years in Indianapolis, whose last 1,000 yard rusher came in 2007. Gore is coming off of four straight 1,100 plus yard seasons, and has topped the 1,000 yard mark in eight years of his decade long career. Right now Gore's ADP is in the late third, but we feel he could give you RB2 value very easily.

Falcons | Antone Smith progresses to running    Thu May 21, 08:33 AM

Atlanta Falcons RB Antone Smith (leg) has began running during his rehabilitation from a fractured right leg he suffered Nov. 16, 2014. Smith said he is almost running full force. It is unlikely he will be cleared for the beginning of organized team activities Tuesday, May 26, though.

Footballguys view: Smith is more notable for his five touchdowns in ten games last season before the injury. He showed some big-play, home-run ability, but will fight with Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman for playing time. Still, his speed and ability to get outside fits well with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's scheme. He's worth watching as a late-round flier or free agency acquisition.

Raiders | Derek Carr does not need surgery    Wed May 20, 10:14 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) will not need surgery on his injured finger and may be able to throw again before the end of offseason workouts, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: Los Angeles - we mean Oakland - Raiders fans can breathe easy again. Carr looked solid last season, and should take a nice step forward with Amari Cooper in the house. That said, his ADP is around the 14th round, making him a QB3, and that's about right, injury or not.

Giants | NYG receivers catch endorsement    Wed May 20, 09:18 PM

New York Giants WRs Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle all received strong endorsements from ex-Giants WR Stephen Baker Tuesday, May 19. 'I think [the Giants offense] will be a matchup nightmare, and I love the diversity of the receivers,' said Baker. 'You've got little Cruz, who can shake and bake in the middle, then you've got Beckham on the outside, who's just explosive, and then you have Randle, I consider him a smooth receiver, when he catches a pass, he just looks smooth. I like him as a third down possession-type guy,' Baker said.

Footballguys view: Baker, a former Giants receiver who won a Super Bowl with them in 1990, is speaking the truth. We may not have yet seen the best from Beckham, and he's got superstar potential in this league. If Cruz can come back healthy, he'll be able to make plays in the passing game. Even Randle has become more consistent as a pro. The Giants may have O-Line problems, but they do not have WR problems.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle logical leader of RBBC    Wed May 20, 09:02 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is the most likely option to lead the team's running back by committee approach in 2015. Randle has the most experience in the system, and he also has experience as a starter. Randle filled in for RB DeMarco Murray in 2013, when Murray was injured.

Footballguys view: Some beat writers think Randle will be the lead guy, while others think free agent addition Darren McFadden will be the top running back. Nearly any back getting significant carries behind that Cowboys offensive line would be fantasy relevant. Watch this battle (and RBBC) unfold during training camp. We won't truly known who is the best option until then.

Panthers | Devin Funchess to be No. 2 WR?    Wed May 20, 05:55 PM

Carolina Panthers rookie WR Devin Funchess could be the No. 2 wide receiver ahead of Jerricho Cotchery this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of

Footballguys view: Funchess isn't going to be handed the job, but he'll have to prove himself in training camp. He's a large target with the ability to play above the rim. Funchess is quite raw as a route-runner, and he's not going to get a lot of separation against NFL corners unless he improves that part of his game. He also needs to improve his concentration in order to play up to his potential as a pro. Fantasy owners can do a lot better than Funchess as the Panthers offense will still be run-heavy and Funchess is far from a sure thing as a rookie.

Redskins | Ryan Kerrigan has surgery    Wed May 20, 05:13 PM

Washington Redskins LB Ryan Kerrigan (knee) has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss some of the organized team activities, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We think Kerrigan will miss most of the OTAs as Washington prepares for 2015. He's in extension talks with Washington, and this knee scope could impact those negotiations. However, we think Kerrigan should be ready in time for training camp.

Giants | William Beatty out a while    Wed May 20, 03:50 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Giants OT William Beatty's (pectoral) torn pectoral will require surgery and Beatty's recovery time is expected to be around five months. Beatty suffered the injury Tuesday, May 19. It was previously reported that Beatty suffered the injury Wednesday, May 20.

Footballguys view: This means Beatty will likely begin the season on the PUP list. He'll be able to come back some time around November, and the Giants could sure use him. This injury is devastating to an offensive line that has struggled with poor play in recent years. Rookie Ereck Flowers (better suited as a right tackle) and left guard Justin Pugh could compete to take Beatty's place up front at left tackle.

Falcons | Levine Toilolo to start at TE for ATL?    Wed May 20, 03:48 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Levine Toilolo is the projected starting tight end this season. TEs Jacob Tamme, Tony Moeaki and Mickey Shuler will also be in the mix at the position this offseason.

Footballguys view: Toilolo isn't an exciting fantasy option. We're keeping an eye on veteran Jacob Tamme. He's still got the ability to get open against zone coverage, and Tamme can do something with the rock after the catch. Neither player is getting drafted in 14-round, 12-team PPR leagues at this time.

Giants | William Beatty injury update    Wed May 20, 03:25 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Giants OT William Beatty (shoulder) tore his pectoral while lifting weights Wednesday, May 20, according to a source, and will undergo surgery. One of OTs Ereck Flowers or Marshall Newhouse will likely assume Beatty's role.

Footballguys view: This is a huge blow for the Giants. Beatty had a bounce-back season in 2014, and he did a good job of protecting Eli Manning's blind side. Flowers, a first-round pick this year, is better suited to play on the right side of the offensive line. With surgery, Beatty is expected to miss most of the regular season, but he could return some time in November. He's likely to be placed on the PUP list to begin the season.

Saints | Josh Hill projected to start for Saints    Wed May 20, 03:21 PM

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill is slated as the starting tight end this season with TE Jimmy Graham now in Seattle. TE Benjamin Watson could give Hill a run for his money, however.

Footballguys view: Watson isn't the same player he used to be while Hill is a player on the rise. His final year in college at Idaho State, Hill led the NCAA in receptions (70) for a tight end. He was an undrafted free agent for the Saints in 2013, and he's been working hard to impress in Graham's shadow. Hill only had 14 catches last year, but five of those were for touchdowns. He's a mid-range TE2 with low-end TE1 ability and opportunity.

Bengals | Jake Fisher signs rookie deal    Wed May 20, 02:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals OT Jake Fisher signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 20. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Fisher was the team's second-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Coming out of Oregon, Fisher displays tremendous athleticism on the football field. He's a perfect fit for the zone system the Bengals use up front, and Fisher can play at left tackle or right tackle in the pros.

Jets | Geno Smith is starter     Wed May 20, 02:55 PM

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is the starting quarterback and will not see competition in training camp, according to offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Footballguys view: Gailey doesn't beat around the bush here. Smith showed better last season, and he finished 2014 strong with a 358-yard, three-touchdown performance in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins. While some may not be confident in Smith, we feel that he'll be the best he can be under Gailey. During his coaching career, Gailey has built a reputation for getting the most out of quarterbacks like Kordell Stewart (Steelers) and Tyler Thigpen (Chiefs). The Jets are going to run the ball a lot, and that should help keep things balanced for Smith and the offense.

Patriots | Commissioner to hear from Tom Brady    Wed May 20, 02:41 PM

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal will not be affected by the team's decision to accept their sanctions. Commissioner Roger Goodell said he wants to hear from Brady directly in regards to the deflation of footballs in the AFC Championship.

Footballguys view: The league seems very open to a reduction of Brady's suspension...if they get a little cooperation from the superstar quarterback. This whole situation is far from over, but we'd be shocked if Brady ended up serving all four games of his suspension. Two games sounds about right, and there are some who think he's going to get the suspension completely eliminated.

Chargers | Make two roster moves    Wed May 20, 02:16 PM

Free-agent QB Chase Rettig (Packers) was signed by the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, May 20. Subsequently, QB Cole Stoudt was released.

Footballguys view: Rettig had a solid career for four seasons at Boston College, completing 685-of-1,242 attempts (55.25) for 8,263 yards and 52 touchdowns. He left BC ranked third all-time in completions, fourth in passing yards and fourth in touchdowns. He's a camp arm for the Chargers and that's it.

Packers | Ty Montgomery signs    Wed May 20, 02:00 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery, a third-round draft pick, signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 20, according to his agent, Damarius Bilbo. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Packers are hoping Montgomery can boost their return game after averaging 19.8 yards per punt return and 25.2 yards per kick return last year in college. 'I just have this mentality that there's nothing I can't do,' Montgomery said. 'I whole-heartedly believe in my ability to do anything from any position. My ability to be versatile kind of sets me apart.'

Footballguys view: Montgomery is an interesting player for dynasty owners to monitor. The rookie has good size at 220 pounds, and he can dominate on shorter routes where he can best use his run-after-the-catch ability. He's built like a running back, but he needs to improve his route-running if he wants to make the most of his talent. This season, Montgomery will compete with guys like Jared Abbrederis and Jeff Janis for the WR4 job behind Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams.

Dallas Cowboys DE Randy Gregory signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 20. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Gregory was the team's second-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Gregory is a talented pass-rusher, but he fell in the 2015 NFL draft after a positive drug test (marijuana) at the scouting combine. He's got the length and the burst to get after the quarterback from the edge, but his technique and diagnostic skills could use some work.

NFL | Potental 2016 free-agent WR class stout    Wed May 20, 12:28 PM

Green and Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, according to All four players are engaging in contract discussions on some level with their current teams.

Footballguys view: This is making the assumption that Bryant and Thomas don't sign new long-term contract before the July 15th deadline for franchise-tagged players. We think both Green and Jones could get franchise tagged next offseason if they don't get extended some time before then.

Bears | Matt Forte in last year of contract    Wed May 20, 12:15 PM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte is entering the final year of his current contract, according to Forte turns 30 years old Dec. 10 and could struggle to find a full-time role in 2016 if he is unwilling to take a drastic pay cut from his current $9.2 million salary. Forte's receiving skills will endear him to a team, but he may be required to share carries.

Footballguys view: Forte is going to once again have a large role for the Bears as their lead back. The Bears have improved their offensive line this offseason, and new head coach John Fox loves to run the ball. Forte is RB5 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues that are drafting now, and his ADP should stay the same as we get closer to the regular season.

Redskins | Alfred Morris auditioning for new team?    Wed May 20, 12:03 PM

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris enters the final year of his current deal, according to The Redskins selected RB Matt Jones in the third round of the NFL draft, which could signal an impending departure of Morris in 2016.

Footballguys view: Everyone seems to be high on Jones at this time, but we'll have to see the rookie wait for his turn this year as Morris is still the top back for Washington. Morris has been a rock-solid starter for Washington over the past few years. A sixth-round pick out of FAU in 2012, Morris has 3,955 rushing yards so far in his pro career. His numbers were slightly down in 2014, but Morris is still a decent RB2 for fantasy owners. Morris has a current ADP of RB14 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller entering contract year    Wed May 20, 11:57 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller enters the final year of his rookie contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2016, according to Miller appears poised to headline the free-agent running back class with another strong season and could be playing for a big contract.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have prepared for life without Miller with the addition of Jay Ajayi (Boise State) in the 2015 NFL draft. Miller cracked 1,000 yards rushing last year and he bulked up to around 225 pounds this offseason to hold up to the punishment he'll take as the lead back. Another good year could mean Miller gets a big payday in 2016.

Raiders | Derek Carr injury update    Wed May 20, 08:40 AM

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) is experiencing numbness in his right ring finger. He hopes to avoid surgery through rest and rehab, and no one close to the situation appears to be overly concerned, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Footballguys view: The injury was first reported as being minor, and we'll have to wait and see if surgery is needed. The longer any sort of surgical procedure is delayed, the longer the recovery process going into training camp. At this time, Carr should be ready to heal and kick off training camp with his teammates....stay tuned.

Bills | OC says EJ Manuel won't be cut    Wed May 20, 02:36 AM

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has a firm believer in offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who has said Manuel will not be cut in camp if he doesn't show progress.

Footballguys view: The talk about Manuel getting cut was a bit surprising, but anything can happen in the NFL. Teams can move on from young quarterbacks if things aren't moving in the right direction. Manuel has raw natural talent and athleticism, but he needs to improve (and quicken) his decision making and accuracy as a passer.

Ravens | Steve Smith may see less snaps    Tue May 19, 09:31 PM

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith could see his snaps drop this season, because the team wants to keep him healthy during the season, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: Smith needs to keep making an impact as the season goes on. Last year, Smith had four 100-yard receiving games over the first six weeks. After that, he had no games over 90-yards receiving. He's the WR1 for the Ravens, and rookie Breshad Perriman should be the team's starter opposite of Smith. His current ADP is WR33 (7.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery exudes confidence    Tue May 19, 07:32 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery said he believes he can compete anywhere, anytime. 'It's nothing against any of the other guys that are here. But we're all competitors. I'm going to be prepared to be able to go whenever and wherever the coaching staff decides to put me.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is a confident player, but he needs to prove that his hands can be trustworthy in order to earn a larger role with the Packers. The rookie has good size at 220 pounds, and he can dominate on shorter routes where he can best use his run-after-the-catch ability. He's built like a running back, but he needs to improve his route-running if he wants to make the most of his talent. He's no better than sixth on the depth chart at this time.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer held out of drills    Tue May 19, 06:50 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) was held out of 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, May 19, during organized team activities. Palmer did, however, participate in 7-on-7 drills.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals need Palmer to stay healthy if they want to make a deep postseason run in 2015. He's going to wear a brace this year in order to help stabilize his knee, and we don't think that will slow him down. Palmer called himself "rusty" after 7-on-7 drills, but he should be able to quickly shake off that rust as he continues to recover.
