Giants | Geoff Schwartz cut Wed Feb 10, 11:45 AM
New York Giants OG Geoff Schwartz was released Wednesday, Feb. 10.
|Footballguys view: Releasing Schwartz saves the team around $3 million in cap space. Injuries have robbed him of his ability over the last two seasons. If he can prove his health, Schwartz should have more than a few teams interested in adding the talented run-blocker.|
Vikings | Mike Wallace a likely cut Wed Feb 10, 11:43 AM
Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace is likely to be cut in the offseason as he carries an $11.5 million salary for 2016.
|Footballguys view: This one is easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Wallace has under-performed for years while also getting overpaid. There is zero left in dead money on his contract, so expect the Vikings to move on quickly.|

Colts | Dwayne Allen unlikely to return to Colts Wed Feb 10, 11:18 AM
Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen is unlikely to re-sign with the team. Allen was forced to block for much of the season and was targeted on just 29 passes.
|Footballguys view: Allen is a better receiver than he was ever given the opportunity to show with the Colts. He's looking for a chance to be "the man" at the TE position, and there should be more than a few teams willing to give him that chance.|

Colts | Andre Johnson likely to be cut Wed Feb 10, 11:18 AM
Indianapolis Colts WR Andre Johnson is likely to be released in the offseason.
|Footballguys view: Johnson has a $7.5 million cap number in 2016, and that's a number the Colts won't pay. The team will have to eat $2.5 million in dead money if he's cut.|

Bengals | Storm Johnson worked out in CIN Wed Feb 10, 08:50 AM

Rams | Stedman Bailey hopes to return Wed Feb 10, 02:15 AM
Los Angeles Rams WR Stedman Bailey (head) posted on social media that he has been moving around in the hospital, as he recovers from two gunshot wounds to the head. He intends to resume his NFL career, but indicated doctors feel otherwise. 'Since that incident, doctors have told me that they don't think I'll be able to make a return to the NFL,' Bailey said Tuesday, Feb. 9. 'When somebody tells me that they don't think I can do something, you know I'll do everything that I can to prove them wrong.'
|Footballguys view: We're just glad Bailey is okay. This situation could have turned out much differently--and tragically--for the young wide receiver. As a fantasy prospect, Bailey has a cloudy future as the Rams aren't even set at QB yet.|

Broncos | No deadline for Peyton Manning Wed Feb 10, 12:56 AM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has 'no deadline' for making a retirement decision, general manager John Elway said Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: There's no deadline....except for March 9th, the start of the new league year. We feel Manning is done in Denver...where he retires or not. Manning would have to pass a physical about a week before the start of the new league year if he wants to return to Denver. With all his body has been through, there's no guarantee that would happen. It seems like the Broncos are ready to move on, likely with Brock Osweiler as their starter.|

Colts | More coaching staff moves in Indy Tue Feb 9, 11:00 PM

Bills | Warrant coming for LeSean McCoy? Tue Feb 9, 10:59 PM
Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy might be served with a self-surrender by midweek, law enforcement sources in Philadelphia said Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: McCoy reportedly got into an argument over who should pay for a bottle of champagne. That led to an altercation with off-duty police officers.|

Giants | Victor Cruz could take pay cut Tue Feb 9, 07:47 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz may be willing to take a pay cut this offseason in order to stay with the Giants. Cruz has three years and $24 million remaining on his current deal.
|Footballguys view: If Cruz does take a pay cut, it shouldn't come as any surprise. As of right now, Cruz has a $9.9 million cap number in 2016 with $3.8 million left in dead money. His breakout 2011 season is in the distant past as Cruz has struggled to stay healthy over the last two years. We'd like to see Cruz stay with the Giants, but it may take a pay cut to do so.|

49ers | Reggie Bush recovering nicely Tue Feb 9, 07:27 PM
San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Reggie Bush's (knee) rehabilitation is going well. He is scheduled to start running in two weeks and does not plan to retire this offseason.
|Footballguys view: That's good news for Bush, but the market is likely to be quite cool for his services. If healthy (and cheap enough), there might be a team willing to bring him on board as a change-of-pace back.|

NFL | Braxton Miller receiving help Tue Feb 9, 06:05 PM
Ohio State WR Braxton Miller indicated Tuesday, Feb. 9, that Hall of Fame WR Cris Carter is helping Miller prepare for the NFL Scouting Combine.
|Footballguys view: Miller showed incredible athleticism during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year. However, he showed that his route-running needs a ton of work. Miller could pay off as a second- or third-round pick if he continues the transition from college QB to pro WR. He's only played wideout for one year.|
Steelers | David Nelson released Tue Feb 9, 05:43 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers WR David Nelson was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: Nelson has been on four teams since he entered the league with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2010. A shoulder injury kept him from catching a single pass this year for the Steelers. Set to be an unrestricted free agent, the Steelers have given him a chance to get a head start for his next destination.|

Patriots | Montee Ball cut Tue Feb 9, 05:42 PM
New England Patriots RB Montee Ball was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: A second-round pick (Broncos) in the 2013 NFL draft, Ball was released by the Broncos after the preseason and he was out of the league most of the year. The Patriots picked him up on their practice squad, but Ball was reportedly out of shape and made no positive impression. Ball was arrested on a domestic-violence charge last Thursday.|

Rams | Sign Kain Colter Tue Feb 9, 05:15 PM
Free-agent WR Kain Colter (Vikings) was signed by the Los Angeles Rams Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: Colter was a quarterback in college at Northwestern, but he was known as a rushing QB and not a passer. His move to WR is an interesting one because of his natural athleticism.|
Colts | Three coaches hired Tue Feb 9, 05:13 PM
The Indianapolis Colts hired Maurice Drayton as their assistant special teams coach, Lee Hull as their wide receivers coach and Jemal Singleton as their running backs coach Tuesday, Feb. 9. Terms of the deals weren't disclosed.Link to story
Raiders | Nate Allen cut Tue Feb 9, 05:06 PM
Oakland Raiders FS Nate Allen was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: Things change quickly around here. It was only last year that Allen signed a four-year, $23 million contract with the Raiders. He only appeared in five games as knee issues knocked his season off track. This move by the Raiders frees up $5 million in cap space.|

Bills | LeSean McCoy case ongoing Tue Feb 9, 05:04 PM
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy's case was investigated by police and has been turned over to the district attorney's office, which is reviewing it for potential charges. McCoy was allegedly involved in an altercation that sent two off-duty police officers to a Philadelphia area hospital last weekend.
|Footballguys view: It all started over a dispute about who was paying for a bottle of champagne. We'll know more about this incident in the near future as the police continue their investigation.|

Cowboys | Tony Romo willing to help Tue Feb 9, 04:35 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo said he learned a lot when he was a backup quarterback and he is willing to help another quarterback learn if the Cowboys sign a free-agent quarterback or take a quarterback in the draft.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys would be wise to find a quarterback of the future. Romo is really good when healthy, but he has trouble staying healthy. They need to be grooming someone behind Romo that is actually a starting-caliber quarterback. Dallas has the fourth-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and guys like Jared Goff (California) or Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) could be options.|

Panthers | No talks for Mike Tolbert yet Tue Feb 9, 03:54 PM
Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert said there have been no contract talks with the Panthers yet. Tolbert already said he would like to return to Carolina next season. He may be asked to restructure his current deal, which stands at $3.4 million.
|Footballguys view: They don't have to rush things here. Tolbert is a valuable fullback who wants to stay with the team. The math is pretty easy, and we have confidence they'll find a way to get things done.|

Jets | Three changes to coaching staff Tue Feb 9, 03:35 PM
New York Jets assistant coach John Scott Jr. was promoted to assistant defensive line coach Tuesday, Feb. 9. In addition, the Jets hired assistant coach David Diaz-Infante (Texans) as an assistant offensive line coach and assistant coach Tim Atkins (Bills) as a defensive quality control coach.
|Footballguys view: Diaz-Infante is the interesting addition here. He played from the World League to the NFL..and even to the XFL. The veteran lineman won two Super Bowl championships with the Denver Broncos back in the late 90s.|
Panthers | Jerricho Cotchery wants to stay Tue Feb 9, 03:12 PM
Carolina Panthers impending free-agent WR Jerricho Cotchery wants to play for Carolina next season.
|Footballguys view: We can't imagine a market that is white-hot for Cotchery's services. The Panthers could keep him around for a good price if they want to keep him. We feel that Cotchery is going to stay with the Panthers.|

Colts | Ryan Lindley cut Tue Feb 9, 03:03 PM
Indianapolis Colts QB Ryan Lindley was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Browns | Cleveland refutes Manziel story Tue Feb 9, 02:56 PM
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was allegedly drunk at a practice last season and the Browns allegedly covered it up by saying he had a concussion. The Browns are denying the report. A Browns spokesman said Johnny Manziel came to the team facility on the morning of December 30 and complained of concussion symptoms. The spokesman also said that Manziel was tested by an independent neurologist and entered the NFL's concussion protocol. He then remained in the protocol until January 12 after being cleared by the neurologist.
|Footballguys view: They are of course going to deny this story. We'll never know the truth about Manziel being drunk in practice, but nothing with this guy would shock us anymore.|

Broncos | Peyton Manning decision important Tue Feb 9, 02:20 PM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning still has one year remaining on the contract he signed in 2012. His $19 million base salary becomes guaranteed on March 9, and the deal counts $21.5 million against Denver's salary cap. The Broncos' available cap space will be impacted greatly by his decision.
|Footballguys view: Manning doesn't need to simply retire to get off the books for the Broncos. Per the structure of his contract, Manning will need to pass a complete physical about a week before that early-March deadline. If he fails the physical, then his contract is void. We feel that Manning is done in Denver...whether he retires or not is up in the air.|

Colts | Adam Vinatieri to play in 2016 Tue Feb 9, 01:27 PM
Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent PK Adam Vinatieri said he plans on playing a 21st season in the NFL and maybe more. Vinatieri will be 43 when training camp starts in August. Vinatieri is expected to re-sign with the Colts, too. He missed just three field goals in 58 attempts in the last two years with Indianapolis. Vinatieri is also third all time in made field goals (503).
|Footballguys view: We can't imagine the Colts letting Vinatieri walk. He'll sign a team-friendly deal and keep hitting field goals for the Colts in 2016.|

Browns | Teammate says Manziel drunk at practice Tue Feb 9, 12:34 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel allegedly showed up drunk to a practice late in the season on a Wednesday, and the team tried to cover it up by saying he was in the concussion protocol, according to one Browns player.
|Footballguys view: Should anyone be surprised by this? We'll have no way of knowing for sure, but it sounds like something Manziel would do. His time in Cleveland is likely over, and we'll see if Manziel stays out of legal trouble with this latest incident.|

Titans | Michael Griffin released Tue Feb 9, 12:28 PM
Tennessee Titans FS Michael Griffin was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.
|Footballguys view: A move that was expected for two-fold. First, Griffin isn't the same player he used to be and his play has been declining for quite some time. Second, the move saves $6.5 million for the Titans in cap space. He may not get a long-term deal, but there should be a few teams interested in adding Griffin for veteran help.|

Panthers | Mike Tolbert wants to return Tue Feb 9, 12:11 PM
Carolina Panthers impending free-agent FB Mike Tolbert said he would like to return in 2016, and he thinks he has another four or five years left to play at a Pro Bowl level.
|Footballguys view: We could see Tolbert playing for a few more seasons (at least) with the Panthers. He's a powerful blocker, decent runner and receiver out of the backfield. Tolbert fits nicely into what Carolina wants to do on offense.|
Panthers | Cam Newton reacts to fumble Tue Feb 9, 11:05 AM
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said he didn't dive after a second-half fumble in the Super Bowl because of the way his leg was positioned. 'I don't dive on one fumble because the way my leg was - it could have been (contorted) in a way,' Newton said. 'OK, you say my effort. I didn't dive down. I fumbled. That's fine. But we didn't lose that game because of that fumble. I can tell you that.'
|Footballguys view: That fumble by Newton essentially sealed the victory for the Broncos, but the Panthers were struggling to move the ball anyway. Sure, Newton could have dived on the ball but there's no guarantee he would have come up with it...especially if there was a nasty scrum on the ground.|

Steelers | Martavis Bryant being counseled Tue Feb 9, 10:33 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant is working out in Los Angeles this offseason, and he's talking to a counselor via phone once a week. Bryant was suspended four games last season for multiple failed drug tests.
|Footballguys view: Bryant is one more hot test away from getting suspended for a year. We love his natural talent, but dynasty owners (or re-draft owners next season) have to proceed with caution when considering keeping or adding him.|

Broncos | DeMarcus Ware plans to return Mon Feb 8, 11:25 PM
Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware said Monday, Feb. 8, that he intends to continue playing. He is entering the final year of his contract. 'I got a lot of gas in the tank,' Ware said. '(Von Miller) was the one that added the gas to the fire for me, so that's why I'm playing the way I'm playing right now. I don't think about retiring.'
|Footballguys view: Good news for the Broncos here. With Ware and Von Miller rushing the passer, the Broncos will maintain their status as the best defense in the league. Entering the final year of his deal with the Broncos, Ware has a $11.6 million cap number.|

Broncos | Owen Daniels considering retirement Mon Feb 8, 07:58 PM
Denver Broncos TE Owen Daniels has admitted that he will think about retirement after winning Super Bowl 50. 'Of course, of course. That's definitely an option,' Daniels told USA TODAY Sports. 'But I'm a man of my word, I signed a three-year deal, so I'd like to keep playing. I feel good enough as long as I can get some work done on my 33-year-old knees.' He has no more meniscus in his left knee, but his right knee caused him more pain during the 2015 season.
|Footballguys view: We think Daniels will continue playing, but his role with the Broncos could change in 2016. The team loves second-year pro Jeff Heuerman, and he may take over as the top tight end for the Broncos in 2016.|

Browns | Johnny Manziel facing criminal investigation Mon Feb 8, 07:14 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend issued an affidavit that said Manziel hit her so hard during a late-night confrontation that she lost hearing in one ear. Colleen Crowley suffered a ruptured eardrum, which is expected to heal eventually. She is seeking to obtain a protective order against Manziel. Manziel is currently under criminal investigation on allegations of domestic violence. 'Fearful for my life, I hit (Manziel) several times, hoping I could back out of the car,' she said in the affidavit, adding Manziel 'threw me off of him and I hit my head on the car window and I fell into the passenger floorboard.'Link to story

Saints | Drew Brees extension before free agency? Mon Feb 8, 05:29 PM
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees may receive a contract extension before the start of free agency March 15. Extending Brees before free agency begins would give the Saints the ability to use the extension to cut down Brees' salary-cap cost for 2016. New Orleans is currently $10 million over the projected salary cap.
|Footballguys view: The Saints have to do something here, and giving Brees a contract extension would greatly help. As it stands, Brees has a $23.8 million cap number in 2016 with $33.8 million left in dead money. Reducing that number this year would get the team under the cap and help them shop for much-needed talent.|

Saints | Three more players released Mon Feb 8, 05:21 PM
New Orleans Saints LBs David Hawthorne and Ramon Humber and WR Seantavius Jones were released Monday, Feb. 8.
|Footballguys view: Jones was the player to watch here, but only in the deepest of deep dynasty leagues. His size, wingspan and leaping ability might get him a spot in camp with another team. Undrafted out of Valdosta State in 2014, Jones has bounced on and off the team's active roster and practice squad.|

Seahawks | Several players signed to Reserve/Futures deals Mon Feb 8, 05:13 PM
Seattle Seahawks TE Brandon Cottom, WRs Deshon Foxx, Antwan Goodley, Douglas McNeil, TE Ronnie Shields, QB Phillip Sims and WR Tyler Slavin were signed to Reserve/Futures contracts Monday, Feb. 8.
|Footballguys view: Undrafted out of New Mexico Highlands (Arizona transfer), Slavin is a player to watch in super deep dynasty leagues. He's not a great route-runner, but he's not afraid to go over the middle and Slavin has good size for a possession receiver. We're also watching Goodley in super deep dynasty leagues because he can flat out fly. Goodley ran a limited route tree in college (Baylor), and he needs a more consistent effort if he wants to make it in the pros.|

Seahawks | Marshawn Lynch huge in postseason Mon Feb 8, 04:57 PM
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is eighth among running backs in postseason rushing yards (937) and third among running backs with six 100-yard rushing games in the playoffs. He gained 488 yards after contact in the postseason from 2010 to 2015, 270 more yards after contact than the next-highest running back over that span.
|Footballguys view: Lynch was almost always money in the postseason. He's given us some of the greatest postseason runs in NFL history, and we'll miss seeing "BeastMode" in the playoffs.|

Broncos | Similarities between Elway, Manning Mon Feb 8, 04:31 PM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning and general manager John Elway were both drafted first overall by the Baltimore Colts/Indianapolis Colts and they both won 14 playoff games and two Super Bowls.
|Footballguys view: Elway didn't want to play for the Irsay family, so he forced a trade to the Broncos. Manning did play for the Colts, then some feel he was stabbed in the back and cut by Colts owner Jim Irsay after missing the 2011 season with a serious neck injury. Perhaps he should have followed Elway from the start. We have a feeling Manning will go into the Hall of Fame as a Colt--regardless of how things ended in Indy.|

Eagles | Nick Foles of interest to Eagles? Mon Feb 8, 04:16 PM
Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles is expected to be inquired about rejoining the Philadelphia Eagles.
|Footballguys view: We've seen this report before...by Schefter....before the Super Bowl. The Eagles new head coach Doug Pederson was with the team when they drafted Foles out of Arizona in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. The Rams benched Foles last year, but it's unclear if they'd even be willing to deal the young quarterback.|

Eagles | No franchise tag for Sam Bradford Mon Feb 8, 04:10 PM
Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will not receive the franchise tag.
|Footballguys view: It would be unthinkable to place the franchise tag on a player like Bradford. He's a decent starter, but he gets hurt too much and isn't the type of QB who makes the team around him better. They'd like to keep Bradford if the price is right, but we feel he'll be playing elsewhere in 2016.|

Seahawks | Marshawn Lynch's retirement confirmed Mon Feb 8, 03:33 PM
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch's plans to retire were confirmed by Lynch's agent Monday, Feb. 8.
|Footballguys view: This is what we were all expecting. Lynch gets to go out on his terms, and the Seahawks get to move on. Lynch began his career as a first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2007. He was really at his best during his time with the Seahawks. When at the top of his game, Lynch was a dominant force in which Seattle built their team around.|

Falcons | Two defenders released Mon Feb 8, 03:07 PM
Atlanta Falcons SS William Moore and LB Justin Durant were released Monday, Feb. 8.
|Footballguys view: Durant was an ineffective starter for the Falcons in 12 games this past season. The move creates a little over $2 million in cap space for the Falcons. Moore has the ability to be a playmaker, but he's missed 29 games (including five in 2015) over the past five years. There's $3.3 million in dead money remaining for Moore, but the Falcons did free up around $3 million with this transaction.|

Broncos | Peyton Manning not rushing decision Mon Feb 8, 12:48 PM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning will not rush to make a decision about retirement after winning Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers, but he said 'I'll be at peace, whichever way it goes.' Manning's mother, Olivia, said she would like Peyton to retire and go out on top.
|Footballguys view: Manning doesn't need to rush his decision. We'd guess that he goes ahead and calls it a career. The storybook ending with a Super Bowl championship might be too much for him to pass up. However, he played hurt this year and may want to give it another go (unlikely to be in Denver) in 2016. Earlier reports have indicated the Rams would be interested in Manning if he wants to continue playing. Stay tuned, we may not have a decision for a couple of weeks.|

Bills | LeSean McCoy involved in fight Mon Feb 8, 12:45 PM
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy and a former RB Curtis Brinkley were in an altercation that sent two off-duty police officers to a Philadelphia area hospital over the weekend, according to multiple reports. One of the officers possibly has a fractured skull. The dispute started over a bottle of champagne. None of the men were arrested, but police are seeking arrest warrants. The Bills released this statement: 'We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time.'
|Footballguys view: Details are still coming in about this incident, but apparently there was a dispute over who purchased the bottle of champagne. There's a mystery bottle story in here somewhere, but in the meantime we'll just wait for more details to emerge. Brinkley, undrafted out of Syracuse in 2009, hasn't been in the league since the Bears waived him before the start of the 2013 season.|
