NFL | Breshad Perriman posts fast 40 time Wed Mar 25, 02:56 PM
Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in under 4.3 seconds at his Pro Day Wednesday, March 25.
|Footballguys view: Perriman is one of our favorite wide receivers in this draft class. He's a physical wide receiver who can dominate at the point of the catch. Perriman has a great size/speed combination and he can explode off the line of scrimmage.|
Buccaneers | Mike Glennon could be trade option Wed Mar 25, 02:37 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon has been a topic of conversation from other teams checking on his availability this offseason, according to head coach Lovie Smith.
|Footballguys view: We've expected this for some time. The Bucs are likely to take a QB (Jameis Winston) with the first-overall pick in the draft. Glennon has plenty of starting experience, and he'd be an upgrade over what some teams have on their roster.|

Jets | Interested in Jason Trusnik Wed Mar 25, 02:12 PM
Free-agent LB Jason Trusnik (Dolphins) is attracting interest from the New York Jets.

Vikings | Terence Newman agrees to terms Wed Mar 25, 01:45 PM
Free-agent CB Terence Newman (Bengals) agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, March 25, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Newman is reunited with Mike Zimmer here. The two worked together when they were with the Cowboys, and now they're together again with the Vikings. Newman isn't the same player he used to be, but he'll be able to help Minnesota as a depth player.|

Buccaneers | TB leaning Jameis Winston Wed Mar 25, 01:22 PM
Florida State QB Jameis Winston is the favorite to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' choice at No. 1 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, and head coach Lovie Smith confirmed it. However, Smith said the team is doing their due diligence on other players they could consider at the top spot. Tampa's research on Winston has them convinced that he can be a leader at the next level. 'Everything checks out on him, too ... the guy can complete every throw,' Smith said. 'A lot has been said about his football intelligence. He's just a leader.'
|Footballguys view: This is the worst kept secret in the league. Winston is likely to be with the Buccaneers, and it wouldn't shock us to see them start negotiating a new contract before the draft.|

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson not being moved Wed Mar 25, 12:40 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson will not be traded this offseason, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. 'No, no chance whatsoever,' Zimmer said. 'Cordarrelle is a young, emerging player who was with his third coordinator in three years. Quite frankly, we need to do a good job of figuring out how we can use him better and he needs to understand where he's supposed to be, the routes and everything.'
|Footballguys view: Patterson has incredible natural talent, but he's yet to put it all together on the field. The Vikings are going to give him one more chance to see if he can respond better to coaching and start playing up to that potential.|

Buccaneers | Bucs open to drafting QB first overall Wed Mar 25, 12:02 PM
Florida State QB Jameis Winston and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota are widely believed to be considered by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, and Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer has approved the team taking either Winston or Mariota with the No. 1 overall selection. 'But fundamentally, we believe in letting Lovie and Jason do all their ground work, and their staffs, come to their conclusions, discuss it with us, talk about their reasoning and as long as it makes sense, we're supportive. But at the end of the day, whatever decision we make, I see us all being on the same page, agreeing and moving forward,' Glazer said.
|Footballguys view: They're more than open to the idea....it's probably their plan. We'd be shocked if Jameis Winston wasn't the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.|
Giants | Victor Cruz could miss opener Wed Mar 25, 11:46 AM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) could miss the start of the 2015 season with a torn patellar tendon in his knee, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz's goal is to be ready for Week 1.
|Footballguys view: The Giants are going to be extremely cautious with Cruz as he returns from this serious knee injury. They'll bring him along slowly in training camp, and we don't think they'd have any problem putting him on the PUP list to start the season if he's not quite ready.|

Redskins | Chris Thompson could play on third down Wed Mar 25, 11:01 AM
Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson is the front runner for the third-down back role, according to head coach Jay Gruden. The team could also draft a back for the role.
|Footballguys view: Thompson would be a fine change-of-pace back if he could actually stay healthy. As a smaller back he struggles with staying durable, and that impacts the effect he can have on the field. It's a great running back class this year, so we'd like to see Washington just draft another back.|

Saints | Josh Hill expected to have bigger role Wed Mar 25, 10:52 AM
New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill is expected to have a bigger role in the offense in 2015. Head coach Sean Payton has mentioned him quite a bit since they traded TE Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks.
|Footballguys view: Dynasty owners should be over the moon with Hill on their roster. In his final year of college at Idaho State, Hill led the nation in receptions for a tight end (72). He's flashed a bit for the Saints over the last couple of years, and now he'll likely have a large role for the offense.|

Vikings | No plans to trade Adrian Peterson Wed Mar 25, 10:43 AM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is disgruntled and reportedly wants out of Minnesota, but head coach Mike Zimmer said the team has no plans to trade him.
|Footballguys view: That's the plan right now, but if Peterson is unhappy the team might be persuaded to change their mind. What else could change their mind is a couple of premium picks. Peterson is still one of the best backs in the game, and there would be more than a few teams interested in adding the superstar back.|

Buccaneers | Brandon Magee waived Wed Mar 25, 10:27 AM

Eagles | Chip Kelly favors one-cut runners Wed Mar 25, 09:58 AM
The Philadelphia Eagles traded RB LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills because head coach Chip Kelly desires a one-cut running back, according to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Lurie praised McCoy as a player, but the move was not financially driven. Kelly felt he could garner more production from a different running back or two. Lurie used the term 'power spread' on multiple occasions to describe Kelly's offense.
|Footballguys view: The Eagles now have an incredible group of running backs to work with. DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews figure to share the workload.|

Raiders | Latavius Murray to compete to start Wed Mar 25, 01:54 AM
Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said Tuesday, March 24, that he expects RB Latavius Murray and RB Trent Richardson to compete for the starting tailback job. 'I think it will be a competitive situation,' Del Rio said.
|Footballguys view: If Richardson can stay in shape, stay healthy and get motivated then he's got tremendous physical ability. The problem is, we haven't seen him flash that ability since his rookie season (2012) in Cleveland. Murray is an ascending player with speed and power. We're putting our chips on Murray to win this job.|

Broncos | Denver wants Cody Latimer to be No. 3 Tue Mar 24, 09:25 PM
The Denver Broncos plan to use WR Cody Latimer as the third receiver behind WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders in 2015. 'I think it's time for him to make a big jump,' head coach Gary Kubiak said. 'Not just a little jump. Obviously his play time is fixing to pick up, and it needs to pick up, so we need him to make a big jump in year two.'
|Footballguys view: Latimer's dynasty value has been hurt by the coaching change. Kubiak uses two-tight end sets as a base formation, and WR3s don't do much in his offenses. We're hopeful the team can be creative in the way they use Latimer--maybe even lining him up at tight end if need be. He's a strong blocker and can be a fine presence in the red zone.|

Broncos | Prefer Shelley Smith at LG Tue Mar 24, 09:24 PM
The Denver Broncos want to use OG Shelley Smith at left guard, although he is able to play center as well. The preference for head coach Gary Kubiak is to keep Smith at guard.
|Footballguys view: Smith should play left guard since Orlando Franklin (Chargers) moved on in free agency. The Broncos still need to find a center and a right tackle.|
Broncos | Brandon Marshall slowly healing Tue Mar 24, 09:23 PM
Denver Broncos LB Brandon M. Marshall (foot) is still recovering from a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot, and he might not be available until the start of training camp. LBs Lamin Barrow, Todd Davis, Steven Johnson, Corey Nelson and Reggie Walker will see plenty of time during the offseason program with Marshall on the shelf.
|Footballguys view: Marshall was a standout player for the Broncos last year, but he did get a little banged up. This year, in the new 3-4 defense, Marshall will be counted on to lead the team in tackles from the ILB (SAM) position.|

LBs Lamin Barrow, Todd Davis, Steven Johnson, Corey Nelson and Reggie Walker will see plenty of time during the offseason program with Trevathan on the mend.
|Footballguys view: The multiple knee injuries are a concern for Trevathan. He'll play ILB (BOW) this year for the Broncos, and Trevathan will be facing a lot of traffic in the team's new 3-4 defense. He'll need to stay healthy this year.|

Free-agent LB Casey Matthews (Eagles) agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday, March 24. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bears | Mason Foster agrees to deal Tue Mar 24, 06:06 PM
Free-agent LB Mason Foster (Buccaneers) has agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, March 24, according to Foster's agent.
|Footballguys view: This took long enough! Foster to the Bears was predicted weeks ago, but the two sides had to work out contract details. He separated his shoulder early in 2014 with the Bucs, only to return and strain his Achilles' later on. According to reports, Foster is fully healthy now.|

Vikings | Taylor Mays signs Tue Mar 24, 05:59 PM
Minnesota Vikings SS Taylor Mays re-signed to a one-year deal Tuesday, March 24. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Mays is reunited with Mike Zimmer here. During their time together with the Bengals, Zimmer used Mays as a hybrid linebacker/safety on defense. Mays brings an attitude to the Vikings defense as an "in the box" player.|

NFL | Ray Rice hasn't had workouts Tue Mar 24, 05:39 PM
Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) hasn't had a workout with a team since he was released by the Baltimore Ravens after his domestic violence case.
|Footballguys view: We're not sure Rice will get a ton of interest on the open market. Running backs can be found without the baggage that Rice will bring. He's not the player he used to be, and Rice may have to wait until after the season begins (and injuries hit) to get another opportunity.|

Colts | Pagano not worried about Andre Johnson Tue Mar 24, 05:27 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Andre Johnson has a backer in head coach Chuck Pagano, and Pagano is not concerned with Johnson's age. 'Watched him on tape, everybody watched him on tape when we knew there was maybe a chance he'd come available. Saw a dominant guy, we know what he went through last season, the circumstances he went through, but he's a force to be reckoned with. You need to do everything you can to make sure he doesn't wreck the game,' Pagano said.
|Footballguys view: Johnson still has plenty left in the tank. Instead of struggling with poor QB play in Houston, Johnson will now be catching passes from superstar QB Andrew Luck.|

Bengals | No competition for Andy Dalton Tue Mar 24, 05:05 PM
Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton will not have competition at the quarterback position heading into the 2015 season, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. 'We feel Andy Dalton's our quarterback, yes we do,' Lewis said. 'It's a different era than when Steve and Joe were there.'
|Footballguys view: Dalton needs to get this team to--and most importantly win--in the playoffs. Lewis said that the team is committed to Dalton long term after just signing him to an extension.|

Redskins | Robert Griffin's option to be picked up? Tue Mar 24, 04:56 PM
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's option must be picked up by May 3. General manager Scot McCloughan said the team has had discussions about Griffin's option and that they are still talking it through.
|Footballguys view: This is a make-or-break year for Griffin in Washington. If he can stay healthy and get his career back on track, then Washington would be happy to keep him around. They need to make that commitment now before the option to pick up his fifth-year option is over.|

Redskins | Washington willing to draft QB early Tue Mar 24, 04:30 PM
Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said that the team will go with the best player available in the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 5 overall pick, which means that they could take a quarterback in that spot.
|Footballguys view: McCloughan could be compelled to take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota if he's available at No. 5, even after the team said QB Robert Griffin III was the team's starter a month ago. McCloughan doesn't think anyone will be handed a job, and they'll have to compete to win a spot.|

NFL | Ahmad Bradshaw trial update Tue Mar 24, 04:25 PM
Updating previous reports, free-agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw (Colts) did not have any additional drugs aside from marijuana when he was charged with a misdemeanor marijuana count while driving, according to crime lab tests.
|Footballguys view: Bradshaw has pleaded not guilty and has a pretrial conference scheduled for April 8. After his legal troubles are behind him, Bradshaw is unlikely to get that much interest on the open market.|

Packers | More responsibilities for Aaron Rodgers Tue Mar 24, 04:23 PM
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has had more freedom to change plays pre-snap in recent seasons, and head coach Mike McCarthy giving up play-calling duties puts even more responsibility in the hands of Rodgers in running the offense.
|Footballguys view: McCarthy and assistant coach Tom Clements will have more preparation to do during the week to make sure Rodgers has plenty of pre-snap options at his disposal. However, it's hard to know how the offensive setup will work with Clements as the primary playcaller.|

Texans | Akeem Dent re-signs Tue Mar 24, 03:25 PM
Houston Texans LB Akeem Dent re-signed to an undisclosed contract Tuesday, March 24.

Dolphins | Jimmy Graham almost went to Miami Tue Mar 24, 03:02 PM
Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham was almost a Miami Dolphin as the Dolphins finished second to the Seahawks in an attempt to trade for the tight end.

49ers | Michael Crabtree struggling to find team Tue Mar 24, 02:57 PM
Free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers) is having a hard time being signed this offseason, reportedly due to concerns regarding lower-leg injuries and a negative perception about his attitude.
|Footballguys view: Crabtree just isn't that hot of a commodity. He'll find a new home before the start of the season, but no end is in sight right now.|

Broncos | Kubiak not worried about Peyton Manning Tue Mar 24, 02:43 PM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning needing extra time this offseason to weigh his future is a non-issue, according to new head coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak also said he's not worried about how Manning will fit into his offense. 'I'd pick Peyton Manning for any offense, I mean, we're going to go do what he does best,' Kubiak said. 'We're not going to go roll out if that's not something that's a strength of our team. We're going to do what he does best.'
|Footballguys view: So many people are worried about Manning's fit in this system. We're not as concerned as others. Manning is one of the smartest quarterbacks in the league, and he'll have no problem making the adjustment.|

Bears | Ray McDonald signing Tue Mar 24, 01:53 PM
Free-agent DE Ray McDonald (49ers) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, March 24.
|Footballguys view: McDonald comes to Chicago with his fair share of baggage. On the field, he should start at defensive end for the Bears and he can slide inside to tackle when the team goes with a four-man front. Off the field, McDonald has to prove that he can make better decisions and avoid the trouble that circled him last year.|

Jets | HC confident in Brandon Marshall Tue Mar 24, 01:40 PM
New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall could be in line for a breakout season in 2015, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said he thinks Marshall remains a 'top-flight receiver.' 'He understands the game. He's a student of the game. He understands when he has small guys on him. He can get vertical when he needs to get vertical. He's a sharp route runner. He has great hands. He knows how to block. He brings a work ethic and he brings a fire to us that we need on the other side of the ball,' Bowles said.
|Footballguys view: We'll see how Marshall fits in with the Jets. Either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Geno Smith will be the team's starter (unless they draft Marcus Mariota), and that doesn't give us a ton of confidence in the passing game. Marshall should be considered a low-end WR2 with upside for fantasy owners.|

Bills | LeSean McCoy trade was quick Tue Mar 24, 01:31 PM
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles March 4, and Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the trade took 30 minutes to wrap up. 'The trade for LeSean happened really quick,' Ryan said at the NFL owners meetings. 'We were all sitting there. We were having organizational meetings. ... And all of the sudden we get this call from Philadelphia and I think that was when the trade started. Probably 30 minutes later, the trade was done.'
|Footballguys view: The Bills don't mess around. They wanted McCoy to be the centerpiece of their offense, and now he will be. McCoy should have a hefty workload and is a RB1 for fantasy owners.|

Jets | Stephen Bowen signing Tue Mar 24, 01:23 PM

Jets | Geno Smith to enter camp as starter Tue Mar 24, 01:19 PM
New York Jets QB Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback ahead of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick entering training camp this summer, according to new head coach Todd Bowles. 'You can't have equal first-team reps with a quarterback,' Bowles said. 'Geno will start out taking them, but that doesn't mean that Ryan can't take his spot. If Ryan's playing better and performing better...' Bowles continues to say that it's too early to judge Smith off his tape alone.
|Footballguys view: Smith ended the season on a hot streak with a big game against the Dolphins in Week 17. New Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey should be able to craft an offense that works towards Smith's strengths as a passer.|

Titans | Marcus Mariota would start for Titans Tue Mar 24, 01:01 PM
Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is a realistic option for the Tennessee Titans with the second overall selection in this year's NFL Draft, and head coach Ken Whisenhunt is impressed enough with Mariota that he would feel confident with him as the team's starting quarterback over QB Zach Mettenberger right off the bat in 2015. 'If we pick him at No. 2, you definitely think he can be the Day 1 starter,' Whisenhunt said. 'He was impressive. ... Just the short time we spent with him on the board, he was very good.' Whisenhunt dismissed the notion that he needs a pocket-based quarterback in his offense to succeed. Whisenhunt could also be trying to generate interest in the No. 2 pick if the Titans would want to trade out of it.
|Footballguys view: The Titans continue to promote the fact they're interested in a quarterback at 2nd overall. However, we still get the feeling they're (wisely) putting that notion out there to see if some team will trade up in the draft. They could certainly use Mariota, because if they don't draft him then we'll see Zach Mettenberger as their starter.|

Free-agent LB Rolando McClain (Cowboys) remains on the radar for the Dallas Cowboys, according to Dallas head coach Jason Garrett and vice president Stephen Jones Monday, March 23. The two sides have had no progress in contract talks.
|Footballguys view: McClain was a bust early in his career, but he didn't play poorly for the Cowboys last year. We believe McClain staying with Dallas is best for both sides.|

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was referred to as the team's 'bellcow' by head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said that McCoy and RB Fred Jackson could see time on third downs.

Cowboys | Dallas to continue to pound on ground Tue Mar 24, 10:15 AM
Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle figure to see a good amount of work in 2015. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team would like to continue their emphasis on inside running after losing RB DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles. 'Absolutely,' Garrett said. 'It has to be replaced. It was a good style of football for us to play. We will try to continue to do that.'
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys may want to continue their offensive philosophy that worked so well last year, but they won't have the same results without Murray. We doubt that McFadden stays healthy with a starter's workload, while Dunbar and Randle are backup-caliber backs at best. Unless the Cowboys can trade for Adrian Peterson, we won't have a ton of confidence in their rushing attack this year.|
