Chiefs | Demarcus Robinson to emerge in 2018? Thu May 17, 10:58 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson's rapport with QB Patrick Mahomes and the presence of WR Tyreek Hill and WR Sammy Watkins on the outside should allow him to exploit defenses underneath this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
|Footballguys view: It's hard to say exactly how much faith to put in second-year quarterback Mahomes. This sounds promising, but let's see this against actual defenders before we get too excited. That said it's worth noting even this early on, especially for those of you who own Mahomes in Dynasty leagues.|

Redskins | Chris Thompson in line for big role? Thu May 17, 10:44 PM
Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will likely be the starter according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, but Rosenthal said it 'wouldn't be a surprise' if RB Chris Thompson ended up playing more snaps this year.
|Footballguys view: Thompson catches the ball well, and is a much better pass protector. So with the, not-terribly-mobile-but-not-a-statue Alex Smith under center, Washington may decide Thompson is the better bet to protect their quarterback. Guice should get plenty of carries, but Thompson may be a sneaky player to target in this offense.|

Giants | Roger Lewis the No. 3 receiver? Thu May 17, 10:37 PM
New York Giants WR Roger Lewis could emerge as the No. 3 receiver this year ahead of WR Cody Latimer, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
|Footballguys view: That would probably put him fourth in the pecking order at least behind Odell Beckham jr., Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram, as well as potentially rookie Saquon Barkley.|

Buccaneers | Charles Sims will have specific role Thu May 17, 05:49 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is expected to be a third-down back this upcoming season because of his ability to pass protect and catch the ball out of the backfield, according to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
|Footballguys view: Sims had his shot to be the team's lead back in 2015 and those days are gone. Now, rookie Ronald Jones could emerge as the top running back for the Bucs. Jones is electric with the ball in his hands and can be dangerous as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Sims is not as explosive with the ball but he is reliable and there's a spot for that....a spot with limited (little?) fantasy value but there is a spot.|

Eagles | No timetable for Jordan Hicks Thu May 17, 05:01 PM
Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles LB Jordan Hicks (Achilles') does not have a timetable for his return even though he said he is ahead of schedule.
|Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of Texas in 2015, Hicks has only played a full 16-game season once in his career. Last season, the Achilles' injury limited him to just seven games. Things seem to be on track in his recovery, and having Hicks out there would be a boost for the Eagles defense.|

Seahawks | Seattle signs two draft picks Thu May 17, 04:42 PM
Seattle Seahawks fifth-round draft choices LB Shaquem Griffin and S Tre Flowers signed four-year deals with the Seahawks Thursday, May 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Griffin had 18.5 sacks over the last two years playing OLB at Central Florida. He flies all over the field, can cover in space and play special teams if need be. Amniotic Band Syndrome caused his left hand to get amputated at the age of four, but that hasn't slowed Griffin down whatsoever.|

Buccaneers | Thomas Sperbeck joins Bucs Thu May 17, 04:25 PM
Free-agent WR Thomas Sperbeck (Buccaneers) signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, May 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Sperbeck was picked up by the Bucs as an undrafted free agent in 2017 out of Boise State. He is the all-time leader in receiving yards in Boise State history. Sperbeck has natural hands, and can work the slot at 5'11" 180 pounds with plenty of quickness and speed.|
Cowboys | Dallas works out several players Thu May 17, 04:18 PM
Free-agent QB Trevor Knight (Falcons), WR Keyarris Garrett (Panthers) and WR Taj Williams (Seahawks) and undrafted free-agent RB Sherman Badie (Tulane) worked out for the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, May 17. The Cowboys are not expected to sign any of the players at this time.
|Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Texas A&M (Oklahoma transfer) in 2017, Knight bounced around on two teams (Cardinals, Falcons) last year. Knight is athletic and strong enough to break some tackles as a runner, but his accuracy as a passer is a work in progress. We'll see if he can latch on with another team since the Cowboys seem to be passing on him at this time.|

Cowboys | DeMarcus Lawrence not worried about contract Thu May 17, 03:42 PM
Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence said he is not worried about his contract situation because he believes he will receive a long-term extension if he plays well in 2018.
|Footballguys view: Currently on the franchise tag (that he signed), Lawrence is set to make a little over $17 million in 2018. The two sides have until mid July to work on a new long-term contract. After nine sacks combined in 2015 and 2016, Lawrence exploded for 15.0 sacks in his contract year. The Cowboys don't want him to get away, and even with that large one-year number we could see a deal hammered out before the deadline to do so.|

Steelers | Eli Rogers likely will return Thu May 17, 03:31 PM
Free-agent WR Eli Rogers (knee) likely will re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers once he recovers from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
|Footballguys view: That move could make a lot of sense for both sides. With Martavis Bryant (Raiders) traded away, the Steelers could use another body in the mix behind Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. After snaring 48 catches out of the slot in 2016, Rogers wasn't used much in 2017 and only caught 18 passes. Rogers tore his ACL in the Divisional Round against the Jaguars. He may not be fully ready to go until well into the 2018 regular season.|

NFL | Matt Moore may wait to sign Thu May 17, 03:20 PM
Free-agent QB Matt Moore (Dolphins) may wait until the 2018 regular season starts before signing with a team in order to see which teams will need quarterback help, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The long-time Dolphins backup is in no rush to sign. Something should come up as players get injured during camps across the league. He has received some interest from the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans this offseason.|

Patriots | Danny Shelton has target weight Thu May 17, 03:19 PM
New England Patriots DT Danny Shelton said he wants to play at 335 pounds this upcoming season and is working on getting to that weight.
|Footballguys view: Shelton has plenty to play for in his contract year. The Patriots traded for him in March, but they didn't pick up his fifth-year option. Shelton will play out this year then hit the open market in 2019.|

49ers | Richard Sherman to be ready for camp Thu May 17, 02:06 PM
San Francisco 49ers CB Richard Sherman (Achilles') jogged on to the field Wednesday, May 16, for the first time since rupturing his Achilles' tendon last season.
|Footballguys view: Great news for the 49ers here...and something we all were expecting. Sherman said he'll be ready for training camp but will approach the offseason with caution.|

Buccaneers | Chris Godwin dubbed starter Thu May 17, 01:04 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin has earned the opportunity to begin the regular season as a starter, according to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
|Footballguys view: That's a strong sign for the second-year player. A third-round pick out of Penn State last year, Godwin snared 34 catches for 525 yards and a touchdown as a rookie. We'll see how the Bucs mix him into action behind Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson.|

Bengals | John Ross wants to think less, relax Thu May 17, 12:42 PM
Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross said he was thinking about everything he was doing in his rookie season and it took away from his talent. Ross said the coaching staff told him he performs better when he's himself and relaxes. A shoulder injury also got the best of Ross, who said he was trying to do more than he could because of it. 'You have to come in and prepare. I've learned that. It's growth and progression from here on [out].'
|Footballguys view: Ross went from shattering the 40-yard dash record at the Scouting Combine in 2017, to struggling through a rookie season where he couldn't get healthy, barely played and came away with zero catches. The best athletes in the world can perform at a high level with a calm mind, and we'll see if Ross can find some inner peace on the football field in 2018.|

Broncos | Denver signs Nick Stevens Thu May 17, 12:13 PM
Undrafted free-agent QB Nick Stevens (Colorado State) signed an undisclosed deal with the Denver Broncos Thursday, May 17.
|Footballguys view: After the draft, GM John Elway said the team would not add another quarterback and Chad Kelly would compete with Paxton Lynch for the backup job to starter Case Keenum. Something changed, and that may be just understanding the need for a camp arm. Stevens is a smart player, but he's limited physically and needs a lot of work on his pass placement. He'll be the fourth-string quarterback for the Broncos and is just trying to earn a spot on the practice squad.|
Packers | Josh Jackson signs Thu May 17, 11:46 AM
Green Bay Packers CB Josh Jackson signed his rookie four-year deal Thursday, May 17. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Jackson has first-round tools, but he fell to the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. He's big, strong and able to play with a physical style at the point of attack. Jackson always finds himself around the ball, and he can be a nuisance for any receiver he's tasked with covering.|
Cardinals | David Johnson with lofty goals Thu May 17, 10:54 AM
Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) said his wrist feels great, and he's aiming for 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.
|Footballguys view: Only two backs in NFL history (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk) are members of the 1,000/1,000-club. Johnson certainly could be the next in line. With Mike McCoy running the Cardinals offense in 2018, we should see Johnson get plenty of work as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With Sam Bradford (or rookie Josh Rosen) starting at quarterback, Johnson makes for a great relief-valve target. Fantasy owners can trust him as one of the top picks off the board in any draft/any format.|

Bears | Coach excited about Tarik Cohen Wed May 16, 11:33 PM
Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is a player that head coach Matt Nagy is excited to work with this upcoming season. 'You see how he is in the meeting rooms -- he listens to the play and when he comes out here how serious he is and he knows how to have fun. He's a player that for me, you get giddy about,' Nagy said.
|Footballguys view: Nagy is one of the most creative offensive minds in football. He'll find a way to use Cohen, perhaps with some plays/formations that he used Tyreek Hill in during his time running Kansas City's offense.|

Colts | Chester Rogers impressing coordinator Wed May 16, 10:09 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Chester Rogers has been one of the standout performers this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni.
|Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners to watch here. Rogers has flashed a bit during his pro career when not slowed down by a hamstring injury. The Colts are looking for a new no.2 wide receiver with Donte Moncrief moving on to the Jaguars this offseason. Rogers may have the early lead to start opposite T.Y. Hilton.|

Browns | Denzel Ward feeling good Wed May 16, 09:56 PM
Cleveland Browns CB Denzel Ward (hip) said his injured hip is feeling good and that he expects to participate in organized team activities next week.

NFL | Crockett Gillmore undergoes surgery Wed May 16, 09:52 PM
Free-agent TE/OL Crockett Gillmore (knee) needed to undergo another surgery on his knee earlier this offseason, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Gillmore struggled at the tight end position, and he's struggled to stay healthy as a pro. He's moving to offensive tackle according to reports that came out earlier this year. The Baltimore Ravens may have interest in re-signing Gillmore, but he would need to be able to pass a physical.|

Ravens | Terrell Suggs not considering retirement Wed May 16, 09:51 PM
Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs said he plans to play beyond the 2018 season and believes he will continue to play for the Ravens during that time.
|Footballguys view: A first-round pick all the way back in 2003, Suggs is still capable of playing at a high level. He's set to make $4 million in 2018, the last year of his current contract.|

Rams | Coach optimistic about Aaron Donald deal Wed May 16, 09:05 PM
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said he is optimistic that DT Aaron Donald will receive a contract extension this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Donald is in line to make around $6.8 million in 2018, and he's looking for a huge upgrade in pay status. The Rams should do what they can to accommodate the superstar defensive tackle. McVay said he has been in contact with Donald this offseason.|
Aaron Donald player page
Ravens | Mark Andrews agrees on rookie deal Wed May 16, 08:42 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews signed his four-year rookie deal on Wednesday, May 16.
|Footballguys view: Andrews was one of our favorite TEs from this class, and he's your classic 'F' threat who can attack the seam with speed. We'd feel better about his fantasy prospects if the Ravens hadn't also added tight end Hayden Hurst (South Carolina) in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.|
Seahawks | Seahawks add Keenan Reynolds Wed May 16, 06:44 PM
Free-agent WR Keenan Reynolds (Redskins) signed a deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, May 16.
|Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick out of Navy in the 2016 NFL draft for the Ravens, Reynolds is a converted college quarterback with incredible athleticism. He hasn't yet been able to stick with a team as he lasted about a year in Baltimore and about a year in Washington. We'll see if things start to click for him in the Northwest.|
Seahawks | Rashaad Penny signs rookie deal Wed May 16, 06:41 PM
Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny signed his four-year rookie deal on Wednesday, May 16.
|Footballguys view: Behind Saquan Barkley (Giants), Penny may be the best all-purpose back in this draft. At 220 pounds, Penny has the size to handle a big workload. He can run between the tackles but isn't a traditional bulldozer inside. Penny instead is a fluid runner who can string together multiple moves to create his own space. He's also a good receiver out of the backfield. After having a mess of a backfield for a couple of years, the Seahawks are hoping Penny can be their centerpiece at the position. Fantasy owners are drafting Penny at RB27 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Patriots | New England signs Duke Dawson Wed May 16, 04:44 PM
New England Patriots CB Duke Dawson signed his four-year rookie contract Wednesday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The Patriots needed help in their secondary, and that's why they drafted Dawson out of Florida in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. Dawson measures in at 5'10" 197 pounds, so he's not the largest corner but he plays with the heart of a lion. He is super aggressive when the ball is in the air and does a good job of timing when a pass is coming in. His aggressiveness can be used against him at times (on double moves, etc), but Dawson has a swagger that should help boost the Pats secondary.|
