Redskins | Robert Griffin critiqued Wed Jul 1, 03:29 PM
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's decision-making, fundamentals, footwork and his inability to find open receivers are all reasons why Griffin isn't good enough to be successful in the NFL, in the opinion of ESPN NFL analyst Mark Brunell.
|Footballguys view: The franchise seems reluctant but resigned to starting Griffin to begin the season, and well, we'll see where it goes from there. He doesn't seem to have the support of head coach Jay Gruden, and only the repeated failures of once coveted backup Kirk Cousins has kept Griffin atop the depth chart. Colt McCoy could be the caretaker for this offense again yet. All of it adds up to every Washington fantasy option inspiring little enthusiasm at current ADP.|

Raiders | Michael Crabtree adding leadership Tue Jun 30, 09:32 PM
Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree received recognition from QB Derek Carr Tuesday, June 30, for his presence in the locker room. 'He's such a great teammate. I love the guy. I talk to him all the time. We're always talking about the game. We're always talking ball. We're always talking routes, concepts, and what we're going to do during the game, and hand signals, all those things. He is a football junkie. He's been a nice guy, a nice addition to our team,' said Carr.
|Footballguys view: Crabtree wasn't exactly heralded for his locker room presence in San Francisco, but this offseason might have been a humbling experience for the one-time top 10 pick. He is only worth a very late round pick (if any at all) on a one year "prove it" deal in the unexciting Oakland offense.|

Raiders | Amari Cooper draws praise from QB Tue Jun 30, 09:31 PM
Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper drew praise from QB Derek Carr in an interview with 95.7 The Game Tuesday, June 30. 'He [Cooper] is ridiculous in and out of his breaks,' said Carr. 'His style of play is perfect for this league. He's good at getting on toes and creating separation. He's good at when the ball is in his hands making those fast-twitch movements to make a guy go one way so he can take it to the house. It's just little things that honestly people don't even notice,' Carr said.
|Footballguys view: Cooper is probably the most attractive rookie wide receiver in redraft, but perhaps not the best value among rookie wide receivers. He should be better in PPR leagues, where he could approach 100 receptions if the Oakland pass offense remains relatively high volume for one piloted by an inexperienced starter. Touchdowns and big games might be harder to come back for Cooper until the offense clicks.|

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar to have receiving role? Tue Jun 30, 04:36 PM
Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar is expected to have the biggest impact of any of the running backs in the passing game, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News.
|Footballguys view: We'll have to see how this Cowboys backfield shakes out, but we think Dunbar is third in the pecking order. Joseph Randle should win the starting job with Darren McFadden playing as a backup. Even if he's the top receiving back in Dallas, we're projecting Dunbar to get about 25-30 catches in 2015.|

Cowboys | No lead candidate at RB in Dallas? Tue Jun 30, 04:07 PM
Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar are still battling each other for the starting running back position, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. 'I can't say who is going to be the lead dog right now, but those guys are going to compete and we're going to do what's necessary to win games,' Brown said.
|Footballguys view: Brown was a pretty good running back for a brief time during his NFL career, and now he's in charge of one of the best rushing attacks in the league. No matter who is the starter, they'll be fantasy relevant behind that monstrous offensive line. We feel Randle ends up as the guy who comes out on top in this battle in training camp.|

Browns | Three TEs to platoon for Browns? Tue Jun 30, 02:58 PM
Cleveland Browns TEs Gary Barnidge, Rob Housler and Jim Dray could all end up taking over for TE Jordan Cameron, who is now with the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Mike Pettine said the three tight ends provide some diversity and can be used in different ways.
|Footballguys view: We're intrigued by Cameron (so long as he's healthy) now that he's with the Dolphins, but this Browns TE situation is one to avoid. There's not much fantasy value from any of these guys--even from a dynasty perspective.|

Seahawks | Russell Wilson will be ready to play Tue Jun 30, 02:58 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said he will be ready to play this season whether he's making $25 million or $1.5 million. Wilson has expressed his desire to stay in Seattle and added that, when the time comes, he will let his play do the talking.
|Footballguys view: If he made $25 million annually, it would be $3 million per year higher than Aaron Rodgers. The quarterback market is about supply and demand--and there's not enough good QBs out there. It may seem outlandish to predict that price tag for Wilson, but the market could bear that out.|

Jets | Vote of confidence for Geno Smith Tue Jun 30, 02:42 PM
New York Jets QB Geno Smith is improving year-by-year and has what it takes to be the quarterback of the future for the Jets, according to ESPN's Ron Jaworski. Jaworski said he has seen growth and improvement in Smith each year and that he just needs to perform on a consistent basis.
|Footballguys view: Smith received a vote of confidence from the coaching staff earlier this year when OC Chan Gailey proclaimed that Smith was the starter. He finished last year with a bang (358 yards, three touchdowns), and Smith is hoping to carry that momentum over to this year. Gailey's spread concepts will help Smith look better, but he's nothing more than a low-end QB2 or QB3 for fantasy owners in 2015.|

Eagles | Zach Ertz to see more snaps Tue Jun 30, 12:29 PM
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is expected to see a sizable jump in snaps this season.
|Footballguys view: This is something all fantasy owners need to monitor. Tight end talent is thin, but Ertz could be a solid TE1 for you this season. He's coming off the board at TE7 (7.10) in 12-team PPR leagues at this time. He could outperform that draft position if his snaps increase dramatically.|

Lions | Joique Bell aiming for 1,200 yards Tue Jun 30, 11:28 AM
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is aiming to become the franchise's second running back to rush for 1,000 yards since 2004. 'I'm going to rush for over 1,200 yards,' Bell said. 'That's the minimum. If I do less than that, I'll be surprised. I'll be disappointed. Anything more than that, I wouldn't be surprised at all.'
|Footballguys view: Bell certainly has the skill set to get that mark in 2015, but there are some obstacles in his way. First, he's not healthy and there's no telling when he'll be ready to practice. He's coming back from both an Achilles' and knee injury, but the team plans for him to be ready at some point in training camp. Second, Bell is going to be splitting time in 2015. The Lions added electric rookie RB Ameer Abdullah in the 2015 NFL draft, and he's going to challenge Bell for the starting job. Abdullah may be best served as a change-of-pace back, but he's too good to keep on the bench. Bell is a RB3 for fantasy owners if he's the starter, and that role might not be as big as some think because of Abdullah's presence.|

Seahawks | Tyler Lockett draws praise Mon Jun 29, 10:05 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett has drawn positive reviews from WR Doug Baldwin, who feels the rookie out of Kansas State is 'going to be an impact player for us right off the bat.'
|Footballguys view: You could easily make the argument that Lockett is their best wide receiver. He's lightning quick with the ball in his hands, and Lockett is a threat to score anytime he has the rock. He'll likely begin this season as the team's WR3 behind Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse. Throw in tight end Jimmy Graham (likely their top target), and there might not be enough action on a run-heavy team for Lockett to be fantasy relevant in re-draft leagues. However, as a late-round flier he's a perfect addition. Also, dynasty owners should be grabbing and stashing Lockett whenever possible.|

Seahawks | Doug Baldwin wants to play special teams Mon Jun 29, 10:03 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin said Monday, June 29, that he wants to contribute more on special teams. 'I want to help out more so on special teams in terms of on kickoff, punt return blocking, Baldwin said.
|Footballguys view: Baldwin is a steady performer for the Seahawks, but he's no more than a WR5/WR6 for fantasy owners in re-draft leagues. We could see him snaring 50 passes with a few touchdowns in 2015. The Seahawks want to run the ball early and often, plus the addition of superstar tight end Jimmy Graham means fewer targets for wide receivers like Baldwin.|

Panthers | Devin Funchess feels he is healthy Mon Jun 29, 10:02 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess (toe) cited a toe injury for the reason his numbers were disappointing in his final season at the University of Michigan. 'We never got to see the full Devin Funchess at Michigan because I did play one season at wide receiver, and I was battling through an injury,' Funchess said Monday, June 29. Funchess said his toe injury was a torn ligament with some cracked bones and ruptured cartilage.
|Footballguys view: It wasn't just the injury, it was Funchess looking lost on the field at times. He's big, but Funchess doesn't win at the point of the catch with consistency. We'll see if he can flourish as the Panthers WR2 this year opposite Kelvin Benjamin.|

Chargers | Danny Woodhead looks to be healthy Mon Jun 29, 10:01 PM
San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) missed 13 games last season due to a broken ankle, but he appeared fast and healthy in offseason work.
|Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here, especially PPR league players. Woodhead feels good after returning from the serious ankle injury he suffered early last season. His quickness and ability to make defenders miss in the open field is going to be utilized often when he's on the field as a change-of-pace back behind rookie Melvin Gordon. Woodhead should snare about 50 passes this year, and PPR owners should consider him a RB4 and occasional flex play in 2015.|

Buccaneers | Mike Evans feels he was held back Mon Jun 29, 10:00 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is expected to play more on an island in 2015 as the 'X' receiver in Tampa Bay's new offense, which is the same role offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter created for Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones during Koetter's time with that organization. He said Monday, June 29, that the QB carousell of Josh McCown and Mike Glennon last year held him back, too, so he is excited about a potential breakout with QB Jameis Winston.
|Footballguys view: All the people who doubt Evans can best the numbers he posted last year need to read this story. Yes, the 12 touchdown receptions could be difficult to duplicate--and touchdowns are always more difficult to project. However, he could easily get at least 10 touchdowns this year with more receptions and more yards. Winston is a serious upgrade and a more confident passer than McCown and Glennon combined. It's lazy analysis to say Evans will suffer in 2015 because of his rookie quarterback.|

Broncos | Peyton Manning dealing with changes Mon Jun 29, 05:46 PM
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has been forced to deal with a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator, less practice time and more rest during offseason practices, new offensive linemen, a new starting tight end in TE Owen Daniels and not being able to practice with star WR Demaryius Thomas yet.
|Footballguys view: The whole offseason is about change with Manning...and that could lead to better things with the Broncos--but perhaps not for fantasy owners. Manning is going to be running a more balanced system in 2015 with less emphasis on the passing game. Demaryius Thomas could see 100 catches again this year, but expect Emmanuel Sanders (101 catches in 2014) to drop to about 75 catches in 2015. Manning should be a low-end QB1 for fantasy owners this season.|

Cowboys | Chris Boyd released from IR Mon Jun 29, 05:29 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Chris Boyd (undisclosed) was released from the Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement Monday, June 29.
|Footballguys view: Boyd could draw some interest on the open market if he's healthy. Undrafted out of Vanderbilt a year ago, Boyd is 6'4" 210 pounds and knows how to use his size to his advantage on the field. As a true freshman and sophomore, Boyd compiled 81 catches for 1,247 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns at Vandy.|
Jets | Brandon Marshall rejuvenated? Mon Jun 29, 05:24 PM
New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall has been a positive influence since joining the Jets this offseason. Marshall has shown his athletic ability that has given him success in previous seasons and he has been a good teammate in the locker room as well. Additionally, Marshall has connections with new head coach Todd Bowles, who was part of the Dolphins' coaching staff when Marshall played in Miami.
|Footballguys view: Marshall is on yet another team with the expectations of being the top receiver. He should provide Geno Smith with a quality veteran target in 2015, and fantasy owners should consider Marshall around where they always do. He's a WR2 with WR1 upside in certain matchups.|

Eagles | Sam Bradford to be ready for training camp? Mon Jun 29, 05:16 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) is expected to be in the final phase of his rehabilitation from a torn anterior cruciate ligament once training camp begins. Bradford's second ACL tear in as many seasons will require more time to recover and the Eagles may not have a grasp on how ready he is to play before the regular season begins.
|Footballguys view: The Bradford/Foles trade was more than a bit odd. First, they have to pay around $11 million more for Bradford. Second, Bradford isn't healthy (kind of a big deal). Finally, there's a question about his remaining commitment to the game after he reportedly considered retirement after yet another knee injury. Bradford is accurate on short-to-intermediate routes, but his lack of durability has crushed his pro career. We're not certain things all of a sudden turn around now that he's in Philly.|

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill showing leadership Mon Jun 29, 04:48 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill considers himself a big leader in the Dolphins' organization. WR Kenny Stills said Tannehill has put the team on his shoulders and is letting them know that everyone must work hard every day to be successful.
|Footballguys view: Tannehill took a big step forward last year, finishing as the 9th-best fantasy quarterback. This offseason, the Dolphins have put better weapons around him with the hopes that he's going to improve even more. Another 4,000 yards passing this year is quite possible, and Tannehill should throw 25-30 touchdowns in 2015. This makes him a low-end QB1 for fantasy owners.|

Chargers | Keenan Allen losing weight Mon Jun 29, 04:15 PM
San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen said he's been losing weight in order to play faster this season.
|Footballguys view: A lighter and faster Allen is a more dangerous Allen. If healthy, he's got the ability to be one of the best receivers in the game today. His current ADP is WR21 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues, and he could easily outperform that draft slot as the Chargers top receiving threat.|

Jaguars | Paul Posluszny still starting? Mon Jun 29, 04:07 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (pectoral) is still expected to be a three-down player despite coming off a torn pectoral, according to The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran.
|Footballguys view: Posluszny is a tackling machine when healthy. Even with lack of durability concerns, IDP fantasy players should consider him a top-5 ILB in re-draft leagues. Projecting him for around 100 tackles in 2015 is not out of the question.|

Vikings | Adrian Peterson still confident Mon Jun 29, 02:49 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson still believes he's the best running back in the NFL. This was in response to Peterson being named the 62nd best player on the NFL Network's top 100 players list.
|Footballguys view: Peterson should be able to pick up where he left off after missing most of 2014. Fantasy owners should look at him the same as they've always done--he should be a top-5 pick in most every draft out there.|

Jaguars | Marqise Lee to be No. 3 WR? Mon Jun 29, 02:27 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee is slated to start behind WRs Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times Union.
|Footballguys view: Lee was underwhelming as a rookie last year. He'll need to show better consistency as a pro if he's ever going to play up to his potential....but first, he needs to get healthy. Lee suffered a knee injury before OTAs and his status for training camp is up in the air.|

Cowboys | Darren McFadden healthy, happy where he is Mon Jun 29, 02:12 PM
Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden said he's excited to be with the Cowboys and feels like he's a rookie again. McFadden also said the injured hamstring that caused him to miss time this offseason is feeling great.
|Footballguys view: McFadden should be happy where he is because of that monstrous offensive line in front of him. He's competing for the starting job with Joseph Randle in training camp. If McFadden stays healthy (always an issue), then he'll be able to put up a good fight for that job.|

Vikings | OC high on Charles Johnson Mon Jun 29, 01:40 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Charles X. Johnson appears to have everything it takes to produce in the NFL, according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. 'He's got great work ethic, and he's a big, strong guy. He's a 218-pound receiver that can run. He's got everything you need to be a productive player in this league,' Turner said.
|Footballguys view: Fantasy owners should be keeping an eye on Johnson in training camp and the preseason. Turner believes Johnson has completely recovered from the knee surgery he had last offseason. Johnson has been working at split end in three-receiver sets during offseason workouts. His current ADP is WR36 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Chargers | Stevie Johnson has chemistry with QB Mon Jun 29, 01:16 PM
San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson showed good chemistry with QB Philip Rivers during offseason workouts.
|Footballguys view: All reports seem to indicate that Johnson is over the moon about his connection with Rivers. With Eddie Royal gone to the Bears, Johnson is set to take over as the team's WR3 behind Keenan Allen and Malcom Floyd. He's a great late-round flier to add as a WR6 for your fantasy squad.|

Lions | Matthew Stafford to hold workouts Mon Jun 29, 01:13 PM
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will work out with WR Calvin Johnson and some of the other offensive players in Atlanta before the start of training camp. Stafford said the workouts would help the development of the offense.
|Footballguys view: Lots of players around the league hold these types of workouts before training camp begins. We like the leadership shown by Stafford here, and it will be interesting to see if the added chemistry shows up in the regular season. Stafford is a low-end QB1 with upside.|

Panthers | Big role for Devin Funchess? Mon Jun 29, 11:28 AM
Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess impressed during offseason workouts and could have a big role in 2015. He played all three receiver positions, and his 6-foot-4 frame could create mismatches.
|Footballguys view: The Panthers are hoping that Funchess can develop into a quality starting wide receiver opposite Kelvin Benjamin. The two have similar skill sets, but Benjamin was much further along as a wide receiver when he came out of Florida State last year. Funchess will body catch too many passes, and he lacks the "my ball" mentality that Benjamin has. We're intrigued by him as a developmental player but he'll probably only catch about 40 passes with a few touchdowns in 2015.|

Seahawks | Russell Wilson wants to stay put? Mon Jun 29, 12:00 AM
Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said the goal is to remain in Seattle for 'a really, really long time' when asked about his contract situation at the Russell Wilson Passing Academy Saturday, June 27.
|Footballguys view: The reports of "Wilson's outta here" have been quite overblown. Do things seem dire right now in contract negotiations? Yeah, a bit--but things change quickly in the NFL. The Seahawks found a franchise-caliber quarterback in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, and they've been able to build a champion due to his small salary. Now, it's time to pay up...and we still think Seattle finds a way to keep him around with a new long-term contract.|

Saints | C.J. Spiller a good fit in New Orleans? Sun Jun 28, 08:52 PM
New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller has a perfect skill-set for head coach Sean Payton's system, which relies on getting the ball to players in space, according Chris Wesseling of NFL.com. Wesseling believes Spiller is significantly more talented than RB Reggie Bush and RB Darren Sproles, who both thrived in Payton's system.
|Footballguys view: Spiller is going to be a great fit for the Saints offense. Sure, Mark Ingram will be the banger between the tackles but Spiller will be used effectively as a change-of-pace runner and receiver out of the backfield. There are Saints beat writers who feel that Spiller will get more total yardage than Ingram. His current ADP is RB16 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Browns | Too soon to write off Johnny Manziel? Sun Jun 28, 08:42 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel just 'needs more time' to develop and learn how to play from the pocket in order to become an effective NFL quarterback, according to Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther.
|Footballguys view: Of course it's too soon. Manziel didn't do himself any favors last year as a rookie. However, he's entered rehab (of course exited rehab) and seems to have a better grasp on what it takes to be a good pro. We'll see if he can make a push for the starting job in training camp. If not, Manziel will back up Josh McCown in 2015--and perhaps replace him if (when?) McCown struggles.|

Raiders | Latavius Murray praised by teammate Sun Jun 28, 08:26 PM
Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece said he doesn't expect a drop off in chemistry as RB Latavius Murray replaces RB Darren McFadden this season because Murray has spent the last couple of years watching film and talking football with Reece.
|Footballguys view: We're not expecting a dropoff...McFadden was always too banged up to make much of an impact. Murray can be the lead back for the Raiders, and he has the potential to be a low-end RB2 for fantasy owners. The team has put better weapons around Derek Carr this offseason, and Murray can lead the charge on the ground.|

Colts | Donte Moncrief could be returner Sun Jun 28, 01:30 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief is a candidate to return kicks this season, according to special teams coach Tom McMahon.
|Footballguys view: The Colts wide receivers corps is a bit stacked right now, so getting Moncrief on the field for returns makes a ton of sense. With Andre Johnson and T.Y. Hilton in the lineup, it's possible Moncrief could end up with a lot less targets--especially with rookie Phillip Dorsett thrown in the mix at WR3. So the Colts would naturally try to utilize Moncrief's abilities in other ways. This helps GMs a little bit in leagues that give you points for returns but he's still no more than a WR5.|

Vikings | Adrian Peterson working out Sun Jun 28, 01:29 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has been working out with RB Jerick McKinnon and WR Mike Wallace since offseason workouts ended.
|Footballguys view: You like to hear this, especially in the cases of McKinnon and Wallace. Peterson's workout ethic is pretty epic, so hopefully that will rub off on both players. McKinnon is a guy to watch, as there is a chance Peterson may be closing out his time in Minnesota, and McKinnon could be his eventual replacement. For this year, McKinnon is no more than a handcuff for Peterson, perhaps an RB4. Wallace was a bit of a stiff in Miami, but could do well in Minnesota if he applies himself. We see him as a WR3 right now, although his ceiling and floor are both a bit beholden to the development of Teddy Bridgewater. Peterson is, naturally a solid RB1.|

Lions | Ameer Abdullah just wants to contribute Sun Jun 28, 09:06 AM
Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is just hoping to contribute to the team during his rookie season in 2015. 'Offensively, I feel like I can go in there and I can help out the team, but if that's not my calling for this year, definitely special teams. If that's not my calling this year, I'm going to be the best scout player in the country,' said Abdullah.
|Footballguys view: It's a crowded backfield in Detroit. Right now the pecking order is Joique Bell, Theo Riddick and Abdullah, but we wouldn't be shocked if Abdullah had a significant role by the end of the season. Right now, Abdullah is ranked by us at about an RB4 level, while Bell is a low-end RB2 or a solid RB3. Interestingly, both players have an ADP in the sixth round right now, which means people are pulling the trigger on Adbullah very early.|

Jets | Devin Smith struggling to adjust Sat Jun 27, 10:48 PM
New York Jets WR Devin Smith struggled to adjust to the multiple spots and routes he had to learn to run during offseason workouts, according to wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell.
|Footballguys view: This isn't a huge shock, though the Jets are likely disappointed since they were thinking he might steal targets from Jeremy Kerley. This is why we don't bet on certain rookie wide receivers in fantasy football though - the learning curve is very steep even for the best of them. Right now we see Smith as no better than a WR6 and he's going undrafted according to recent ADP data.|

Giants | Big contract coming for Eli Manning? Sat Jun 27, 10:17 PM
New York Giants QB Eli Manning will likely work out a new deal with the team, according to his agent Tom Condon, but it won't come at a discount. 'The quarterbacks always get done,' Condon said. 'And the Giants are not a skittish team. So it's not one of those things where they get nervous or they jump around or anything like that. You know you're going to go in and it's going to get done. I'm sure at the appropriate time it'll happen.'

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he is still the best running back in the NFL, and he is aiming for a record-breaking 2,200-yard season in 2015, according to his wife.
|Footballguys view: Peterson is pretty much superhuman, and we don't count him out of anything. He wants to beat Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record? Sure, he could do it. He wants to beat Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards? Yes, of course he could. It would take an incredible effort, but Peterson is the guy that could make it happen.|

Panthers | Corey Brown expanding his game Sat Jun 27, 09:42 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown has developed into more than just a deep threat, according to TE Greg Olsen. 'Last year at this time, Corey was a guy where we said, 'Wow, he's fast.' This year he is a receiver,' Olsen said. 'The guy can play. He's not just a one-trick pony, a guy who is just going to run deep. He has a lot of natural instinct to him. He has a good feel.'
|Footballguys view: The artist formerly known as Philly Brown showed some promise as a receiver in 2014 (36 targets for 21/296/2 receiving). The Panthers won't have a world-class passing attack, but Brown will be in the mix as a backup option.|

Browns | Former QB praises Johnny Manziel Sat Jun 27, 09:28 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is trending in the right direction, former QB Elvis Grbac said. 'It's obviously a learning experience,' Grbac said. 'I think he's going in the right direction. He's on the right path. I think it'll be somewhat of a rude awakening the first couple games of the season and he will have to adjust.'
|Footballguys view: Manziel should be a buy-low target for fantasy owners in dynasty leagues. Yes, he's a longshot to ever be what the Browns thought he could be as a first-round pick in 2014. However, running quarterbacks are valuable fantasy assets--and it's too soon to write off Manziel. He'll likely start the season as a backup behind Josh McCown, but he could get a chance to start if McCown struggles.|

Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne may be ready for the start of training camp. 'I think Claiborne has a real good chance to surprise,' owner Jerry Jones said recently, via the team's official website. Claiborne lost 30-40 pounds this offseason, after having surgery done on both of his knees.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys declined his fifth-year option, but Claiborne is due $2.6 million (fully guaranteed) in the final year of his rookie deal. They'll bring him back cautiously as he returns from this serious injury. Claiborne has been a huge disappointment as a pro, and this is likely his last season with the Cowboys.|

Seahawks | Russell Wilson wants guaranteed money Sat Jun 27, 05:49 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson wants a considerable portion of his next contract to be guaranteed.
|Footballguys view: We're still optimistic that something will be done, but keep monitoring this situation. The guaranteed money is considered the biggest stumbling block in Wilson's extension talks, as the league's funding rule requires all money of any future payments to be paid into escrow upon signing.|

Raiders | Chances of a Matt McGloin trade? Sat Jun 27, 04:49 PM
Bill Williamson, from ESPN.com, speculates that QB Matt McGloin could be traded later this year. If the Raiders are happy with Christian Ponder as the primary backup behind Derek Carr, then perhaps McGloin could be on the trade block.
|Footballguys view: If McGloin is put on the trade block, then we'd expect the Houston Texans to show interest. McGloin was Bill O'Brien's quarterback when the two were at Penn State. The Texans have arguably the worst quarterback situation in the league, and McGloin could be seen as an upgrade.|

49ers | Offense going to be faster Sat Jun 27, 04:46 PM
Joe Fann, from 49ers.com, notes the 49ers offense is going to use a faster tempo in 2015. "It's definitely a fast tempo. We're trying to get a lot faster than last year as far as getting to the line. ... As far as the system, it's very similar to what we've run in past years. Some of the terminology is a bit different but there's still familiarity with past years." - wide receiver Anquan Boldin on the 49ers new-look, uptempo offense.
|Footballguys view: The 49ers played 1009 snaps last year, a mark that ranked 20th in the NFL in 2014. The league average last year was 1,024, and the league high was 1,127 snaps by (not surprisingly) the Philadelphia Eagles. We have serious questions about the 49ers this year...on both sides of the ball. We'll see if QB Colin Kaepernick can perform better as a passer in 2015. His play will feed the energy for the rest of the offense.|

Chargers | Rookie RB Gordon as good as advertised Sat Jun 27, 04:44 PM
Eric D. Williams, from ESPN.com, writes that Chargers rookie RB Melvin Gordon has been as good as advertised at minicamp and OTAs. He's expecting Gordon to start as the lead back for the Chargers in 2015.
|Footballguys view: Ryan Mathews moved on in free agency, so the Chargers drafted Gordon in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft with the idea that he could be the lead back this season. Gordon reminds us of former Vikings RB Robert Smith because of his speed and ability to eat up chunks of yards in a hurry. Gordon is not a pile-pusher, but he can bounce runs outside to move the chains. We'll likely see Danny Woodhead as the change-of-pace back behind Gordon when the rookie needs a breather.|
Vikings | Charles Johnson ready to improve Sat Jun 27, 04:40 PM
Master Tesfatsion, from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports that Vikings WR Charles X. Johnson is not satisfied with his newly gained stability. Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner is pleased with Johnson's work this offseason. "CJ has picked up where he left off in December and he's having a good spring," Turner said.
|Footballguys view: We love Johnson's mindset here. He's not resting on his laurels, and he's working as if his roster spot is on the line. The Vikings added Mike Wallace via trade this offseason, but Johnson should be the lead receiver because of the chemistry he established with QB Teddy Bridgewater in 2014. Fantasy owners should consider Johnson a WR4 with upside.|

Cowboys | Dez Bryant's agent meets with 'Boys Sat Jun 27, 04:25 PM
The agent for Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant met face-to-face with the team for the first time in nearly four months, per sources. Bryant hasn't yet signed his $12.823 million franchise tender, and he has a deadline of July 15 to agree to a long-term deal. After that date Bryant will need to play out the season under the tender and the two sides could discuss an extension after the season.
|Footballguys view: Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. We're about a couple of weeks away from the mid-July deadline for franchise-tagged players to agree to new long-term deals. We'll have a better feeling about Bryant (and Demaryius Thomas) when the deadline is a few days away.|
