Bengals | Andrew Whitworth listening to offers Mon Feb 20, 10:37 PM
Cincinnati Bengals OT Andrew Whitworth is poised to test the free agent market 'unless blown away by a massive contract offer' from team management. 'At this point in my career it's about the challenge, the excitement of trying to win that Super Bowl,' Whitworth said. 'I want to make sure wherever it is, and hopefully it's in Cincinnati, that team is prepared to try and fight for that trophy.' Whitworth has never been part of a playoff victory in 12 NFL seasons.Link to story
Panthers | Victor Cruz happy with Carolina visit Mon Feb 20, 07:57 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) said his visit with the Carolina Panthers Monday, Feb. 20, went well.

Falcons | Jonathan Babineaux may not be back Mon Feb 20, 06:58 PM
Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent DT Jonathan Babineaux may not return to the Falcons next season even if he decides not to retire this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Babineaux has been one of the best and most consistent defensive linemen in team history. Losing him would leave the team with Grady Jarrett and Tyson Jackson inside at defensive tackle. It's a deep class on the defensive line in the draft this year, so expect the Falcons to spend a pick or two up front.|

Dolphins | Julius Thomas reworks deal Mon Feb 20, 06:46 PM
Miami Dolphins impending TE Julius Thomas agreed to restructure his contract as part of his trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Dolphins, according to a source. Thomas was scheduled to count $8.3 million against the salary cap in 2017, $9.8 million in 2018 and $10.3 million in 2019 before the restructuring.
|Footballguys view: That was part of the deal as Thomas' price tag was just too high. The Dolphins get another weapon for the passing game, and Thomas is a player who could stand out in the red zone. Reunited with Adam Gase, we'll consider Thomas a TE2 with TE1 upside in 2017.|

Falcons | Tyson Jackson may not return Mon Feb 20, 06:37 PM
Atlanta Falcons DT Tyson Jackson is not expected to return to the team next season at his current salary. He could return if he agrees to reduced salary. Vikings | Minnesota may look at Kelvin Beachum Mon Feb 20, 06:36 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent OT Kelvin Beachum could receive interest from the Minnesota Vikings during free agency.
|Footballguys view: The Vikings have a bad offensive line, and they should focus plenty of their attention there this offseason. With only $18.8 million in cap space, they'll have some salary cap gymnastics to get through in order to be a player on the free agent market.|
Packers | Jared Cook played well late in season Mon Feb 20, 06:22 PM
Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Jared Cook averaged 13.5 yards per catch over the final seven games of the regular season, which ranked third among tight ends in the NFL in the category.
|Footballguys view: Cook is fantastic when healthy and motivated...something that has seemingly always been a problem for him as a pro. He developed great chemistry with QB Aaron Rodgers and is a TE1 for fantasy owners in 2017.|

Lions | Jake Rudock may not be handed No. 2 QB job Mon Feb 20, 06:21 PM
The Detroit Lions may add a quarterback in free agency or the 2017 NFL draft that will compete with QB Jake Rudock for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp.
|Footballguys view: Rudock should not be handed anything. A star in college at Michigan, Rudock was a sixth-round pick for the Lions in 2016. He spent most of his rookie year on the practice squad, but he was called up to the active roster in late November. He's a rhythm passer who is mechanically sound and can make accurate throws at all three levels of the field (short, intermediate, deep). We'll continue to watch his progress in dynasty leagues, but coming out of college we only graded him as a career backup with limited upside as a starter.|
Jets | Mike Glennon may be option for Jets Mon Feb 20, 06:16 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon is expected to receive interest from the New York Jets this offseason.
|Footballguys view: The Jets may want someone like Tyrod Taylor, but they may have to settle for a player like Glennon. He was a competent starter for the Bucs before they added QB Jameis Winston, and somebody will give him a shot to start again. The Jets spent a second-round pick on Christian Hackenberg last year and it looks like he's a complete flop.|

Vikings | Pat Shurmur focused on running game Mon Feb 20, 05:55 PM
Minnesota Vikings RBs Adrian Peterson and/or Jerick McKinnon could see increased usage in 2017 with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur wants to improve the offense as a whole, but he said the key and focal point of the offense will be to do a better job in the running game.
|Footballguys view: The team needs to open things up more for the passing game. Sam Bradford proved he can be incredibly accurate on short passes, but the team needs a vertical element to challenge defenses. That vertical passing game can be set up by a strong rushing attack. We don't think Peterson returns in 2017, so McKinnon may get a huge bump in fantasy potential. Stay tuned.|

Jaguars | Julius Thomas being sent to Miami Mon Feb 20, 05:24 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is being traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a late-round 2017 draft pick Monday, Feb. 20.
|Footballguys view: So Thomas is on the move to Miami, but it's not for LT Branden Albert. The Jaguars didn't get much out of Thomas, and he still has yet to play a full 16-game season in the pros. With such a rich draft class coming into the league this year, expect the Jags to spend a pick on the position.|

Dolphins | Miami acquiring Julius Thomas Mon Feb 20, 05:16 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is being acquired by the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a late-round 2017 draft pick Monday, Feb. 20.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins don't send LT Branden Albert to the Jaguars, but they do get Thomas for a late pick. Thomas is reunited with Adam Gase, and he should step in as their lead tight end. He's a receiving weapon when healthy, and Thomas put up the best numbers of his career working under Gase when they were both with the Denver Broncos. Now, Ryan Tannehill is no Peyton Manning, but Thomas should be able to be used to the best of his ability with Gase calling the shots.|

Cowboys | Dallas restructures contracts Mon Feb 20, 04:44 PM
Dallas Cowboys OT Tyron Smith and C Travis Frederick had their contracts restructured Monday, Feb. 20, to free up about $17.3 million in salary cap space. The moves place them under the proposed salary cap of $168 million for this year, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: About $21 million of the $24 million Smith and Frederick were due was turned into a signing bonus in order to create the cap space. Smith and Frederick were set to make $10 million and $14.22 million next season, respectively.|
Titans | Marcus Mariota made history in 2016 Mon Feb 20, 04:23 PM
In 2016, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota became the seventh player in NFL history to throw for at least 6,000 yards and rush for at least 600 yards in his first two seasons combined.
|Footballguys view: Mariota is still recovering from a broken fibula, and he's unlikely to be ready for OTAs in the spring. The Titans are going to be wisely cautious with their young franchise quarterback. Expect the team to put better weapons around him this offseason through the draft and free agency. In 2016, he finished as the no. 13 fantasy quarterback in standard-scoring leagues. Mariota should be considered a QB2 with QB1 upside for fantasy owners in 2017.|

Titans | Career year for Rishard Matthews Mon Feb 20, 04:15 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews posted career highs in catches (65), receiving yards (945) and touchdowns (9) last season. The 65 catches were tied for the team lead, while his nine touchdowns were the most on the Titans.
|Footballguys view: Entering his first season with the Titans in 2016, Matthews quickly developed strong chemistry with QB Marcus Mariota. After a career year, Matthews should be considered a WR2 with a nose for the end zone in 2017.|

Bengals | Andrew Whitworth talking with Bengals Mon Feb 20, 03:25 PM
Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth has been in talks with the Bengals in regards to re-signing. 'Cincinnati has been wonderful and I love it there,' Whitworth said.
|Footballguys view: Whitworth may be the best left tackle on the free agent market this offseason -- if he makes it there. At age 35, Whitworth does not have an outstanding skill set but he does get the job done. If the Bengals can't keep him around, we could see a team like the Broncos making a move for the veteran.|
Panthers | Victor Cruz visited Panthers Mon Feb 20, 03:13 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) visited the Carolina Panthers over the weekend, according to a source. A deal is not imminent and Cruz is expected to speak with at least one other team.
|Footballguys view: Cruz's best landing spot may be the Panthers. The team could use a third receiver to work the underneath routes. He'd basically be fourth in the pecking order when adding star tight end Greg Olsen to the conversation. No matter where he lands, Cruz is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2017.|
Jaguars | Jacksonville cuts Jared Odrick Mon Feb 20, 02:00 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars DL Jared Odrick was released by the team Monday, Feb. 20.
|Footballguys view: Injuries led to Odrick only appearing in six games for the Jaguars in 2016. The move saves them $8.5 million in cap space. On the open market, Odrick could get plenty of interest. However, he might only be seen as a part-time player in order to keep him fresh and effective.|

49ers | No rushing TDs for Carlos Hyde after October Mon Feb 20, 01:01 PM
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde scored six times as a rusher in September and October, but he failed to find the end zone on the ground after that, settling instead for three receiving touchdowns over that time. In addition, five of Hyde's rushing scores came against NFC West division rivals.
|Footballguys view: Hyde is in a contract year, and if healthy he could put up spectacular numbers in a Kyle Shanahan offense. In 13 games, Hyde was able to finish as a top-15 fantasy RB (standard scoring) in 2016. If healthy, Hyde has RB1 upside with a RB2 price tag in drafts. Keep an eye on him as we go through training camp this year.|

Jaguars | Branden Albert set to join Jacksonville Mon Feb 20, 12:54 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert is reportedly on the verge of being dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2018 late-round draft pick, according to a league source, although no trades can be made official until the new league year begins March 9.
|Footballguys view: Albert is going to the Jaguars on a separate deal from TE Julius Thomas. Earlier speculation indicated the two would be exchanged for each other. Now, it seems like they'll be two deals independent of each other. The Jags need a blind-side protector for QB Blake Bortles after letting LT Kelvin Beachum hit the street.|

Cardinals | Arizona may consider Jay Cutler Mon Feb 20, 12:18 PM
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is expected to be released this offseason, and the MMQB's Peter King 'wouldn't be shocked' if he ends up with the Arizona Cardinals to serve as the backup for Carson Palmer.
|Footballguys view: That would be an interesting move...and we're not sure Cutler would be happy as a backup. If he did go to Arizona as a reserve player, he might not sit the bench for long. It just doesn't seem like Palmer has much left to offer.|

Giants | Franchise tag a possibility for JPP Mon Feb 20, 12:17 PM
Impending free-agent DE Jason Pierre-Paul is a candidate to receive the franchise tag from the New York Giants for the second time in three years.
|Footballguys view: Pierre-Paul wants a long-term deal, but the two sides may not be able to come to an agreement before free agency opens up. Putting the tag on JPP would give the team until July 15th to sign him to a longer contract. The franchise tag for a defensive end is expected to be about $17 million in 2017.|

Packers | Julius Peppers unlikely back to GB Mon Feb 20, 11:32 AM
Green Bay Packers impending free-agent LB Julius Peppers appears to be done with the Packers, according to beat writer Rob Demovsky.
|Footballguys view: Peppers hasn't announced whether or not he's going to retire, but he clearly has something left to offer in the NFL. In 2016 (his age-36 season), Peppers posted 7.5 sacks in 16 games. We could see him returning to the Panthers as a part-time pass rusher.|

Ravens | BAL could cut six Mon Feb 20, 11:02 AM
Baltimore Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil ($6 million), S Lardarius Webb ($5.5 million), CB Shareece Wright ($2.6 million) C Jeremy Zuttah ($2.3 million), CB Kyle Arrington ($2.1 million) and S Kendrick Lewis ($1.8 million) could be cut to create $20.3 million in salary cap space.
|Footballguys view: The Ravens only have $15 million in cap space at this time, and that ranks among the lowest in the league. Freeing up $20 million extra would put them around the middle of the pack in the NFL, and it would give them a fighting chance with some of the better free agents out there.|

Patriots | Danny Amendola open to pay cut Mon Feb 20, 09:09 AM
New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is receptive to a pay cut in order to stay with the team.
|Footballguys view: Amendola should be open for a pay cut if he wants to stay with the Patriots. He's got a $7.7 million cap number but there's only $1.4 million remaining in dead money. He'll either take a pay cut or won't return to New England.|

Jaguars | Branden Albert visiting Jaguars Mon Feb 20, 08:41 AM

NFL | Christian McCaffrey can handle carries Sun Feb 19, 10:54 PM
Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey is a tireless workout warrior built to handle heavy workloads, according to his collegiate teammate Graham Shuler. 'We do this thing here called the Gator Run,' Shuler said. 'It's one of our most intense off-season training things. It's when you load up one of those utility vehicles, like a Gator, with 600 pounds in the back and three coaches are riding in it. We push it all around campus, and it's a sprint. It's really rare for anyone to push it over 20 times. When we did it this summer, Christian pushed it 43 times. He took 43 turns.'
|Footballguys view: McCaffrey is a versatile running back who can immediately help as a runner, receiver or return man. He's likely to see his draft stock rise as the pre-draft process continues. We fully expect him to impress at the Scouting Combine, and he'll certainly get bonus points as a great interview/standout person. Don't be shocked to see more mock drafts putting him in the first round.|
Bengals | Tyler Eifert has knack for scoring Sun Feb 19, 10:05 PM
Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert had five touchdowns in eight games in 2016, and he has 18 touchdowns in 21 games over the last two seasons combined.
|Footballguys view: Too bad he doesn't have a knack for staying healthy. Everyone under the sun knows Eifert is super talented, but he has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. In fact, Eifert has been limited to only 22 games over the last three years. If healthy, Eifert is a TE1 set-it-and-forget-it starter for fantasy owners.|

Chiefs | Travis Kelce a rare weapon Sun Feb 19, 09:52 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce ranked second in the NFL with 655 yards after catch in 2016, and he was the only tight end to rank in the top 15 in the category.
|Footballguys view: The Chiefs jumpstarted their passing game with Kelce and WR Tyreek Hill this year. Kelce's a TE1 with the upside to finish as the best fantasy tight end in 2017.|

Raiders | Competition for Latavius Murray? Sun Feb 19, 09:07 PM
Oakland Raiders impending free-agent RB Latavius Murray will have interest from multiple teams, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan, and Caplan believes the market for Murray could make it difficult for Oakland to re-sign him.
|Footballguys view: Speculation around the league says the Raiders are ready to move on anyway. Murray is a big-bodied three-down running back with the speed to rip off field-flipping plays. He'll have more than a few suitors, and his price tag may be larger than some have anticipated.|
Latavius Murray player page
NFL | Davis Webb the top QB prospect? Sun Feb 19, 08:52 PM
California QB Davis Webb will end up being the best quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, according to one NFL executive.
|Footballguys view: Webb wasn't the best QB at the Senior Bowl earlier this year, so we've got a hard time believing he's the best QB in this entire draft class. We may see four QBs taken in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft, and Webb is unlikely to be one of them. It doesn't mean he can't develop to be the best but just know there is a ton of work to be done in order for that to happen.|

|Footballguys view: If added by the Dolphins, Thomas would be reunited with head coach Adam Gase. He put up the best numbers of his career under Gase during their time with the Broncos. If Thomas can stay healthy, something he's struggled with as a pro, he can be a dangerous weapon for any passing attack.|

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake could be third-down back Sun Feb 19, 04:21 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake could be used a third-down back next season with RB Jay Ajayi as the starting running back.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins should use Drake as a change-of-pace back in 2017. He's got the speed to get to and through the hole quickly. Drake is not creative or elusive as a runner, but he could perform like a Tevin Coleman-lite for the Dolphins offense.|

|Footballguys view: Hightower would receive around $11 million if he receives the transition tag and the Patriots would have the first right of refusal if another team signed him. The franchise tag would be worth between $14.5 million and $15 million, which may be too rich for the Patriots.|
