NFL | Antrel Rolle has heard from teams Mon Jun 27, 05:54 PM
Free-agent FS Antrel Rolle (Bears) said he has heard from a few teams this offseason, but he is waiting for the right situation before signing.
|Footballguys view: Rolle had a disappointing season for the Bears in 2015. In seven games, he played 360 snaps and compiled 35 tackles with only one pass breakup. There's a possibility he ends up with the Dolphins, but Rolle may not find a new team until after training camp starts.|

Bears | Jeremy Langford dropped passes Mon Jun 27, 04:43 PM
Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford led all running backs in drop rate last season, with eight of 30 catchable targets hitting the ground.
|Footballguys view: Langford is going to have to do better than that if he wants a three-down role with the Bears this season. With Matt Forte (Jets) moving on in free agency, the Bears are looking to Langford as their lead back. However, we should see all-purpose back Ka'Deem Carey mixed in (especially since he's a good receiver) and rookie Jordan Howard may be the best pure runner on the team's roster. It's looking like a three-headed RBBC for the Bears this year, so fantasy owners should consider Langford a RB3 in 2016.|

49ers | DeAndre Smelter likely to make team Mon Jun 27, 04:25 PM
San Francisco 49ers WR DeAndre Smelter may be behind WR Eric Rogers on the depth chart, but he is still expected to make the final roster, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. Smelter is believed to be ahead of rookie WR Aaron Burbridge on the depth chart.
|Footballguys view: A fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2015, Smelter should be healthier this year as he was still recovering from an ACL he suffered in college last year as a rookie. Like all Georgia Tech WRs, Smelter is big, fast and physical. Let's see if he can be more like Calvin Johnson or Demaryius Thomas and less like Stephen Hill. We like Smelter in dynasty leagues, but re-draft owners should only keep his name on waiver-wire speed dial.|

Jets | Bryce Petty projected off the team Mon Jun 27, 03:41 PM
New York Jets QB Bryce Petty did not make the 53-man roster projection made by Seth Walder of the New York Daily News.
|Footballguys view: Petty was a huge project when the team picked him up in the draft out of Baylor last year. He lacks the processor to make quick decisions when working from under center. With the team picking up Christian Hackenberg (Penn State) in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, Petty has become expendable. Geno Smith should start this year, and Hackenberg should be considered the QB of the future.|
Patriots | Nate Washington has struggled Mon Jun 27, 03:14 PM
New England Patriots WR Nate Washington had trouble getting on the same page as QB Tom Brady during organized team activities. He's at risk of missing the final roster if he does not impress at training camp.
|Footballguys view: Washington is a vertical threat for the Patriots...something the team lacks. However, the market for him was ice cold for a good reason. We've seen veteran WRs come to New England only to fade due to a lack of chemistry with Brady. Washington is no lock to make the 53-man roster.|

Patriots | Several Pats receivers on bubble Mon Jun 27, 03:02 PM
New England Patriots WRs Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, Nate Washington and Chris Harper are all considered to be on the roster bubble by Paul Perillo of patriots.com. Perillo added that the mostly likely scenario is Martin, Dobson and Washington battling for one or two roster spots.
|Footballguys view: Reports indicate that Washington has struggled to get on the same page with QB Tom Brady during the offseason. Dobson had a lot of drops in college at Marshall, and his lack of concentration has continued as a pro. None of these receivers have much (if any) fantasy relevance even if they do make the 53-man roster.|

Redskins | Vernon Davis could miss final roster Mon Jun 27, 02:22 PM
Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis may not make the final roster if he does not improve as a pass-catcher and blocker, according to The Washington Post's Mike Jones. Jones currently has Davis penciled in as the No. 4 tight end in Washington.
|Footballguys view: We wouldn't be shocked if Davis fails to make the 53-man roster in Washington. The Broncos traded for him last year, but Davis did next to nothing for the team as they won a Super Bowl. Jordan Reed is the top TE for Washington, and guys like Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen could be more valuable to the team as reserve players at the position. Davis is a name everyone knows, but his game pales in comparison to what it used to be.|

Redskins | Two Redskins rookies may not make team Mon Jun 27, 02:09 PM
Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall and rookie QB Nate Sudfeld were left off the 53-man roster projection by Mike Jones of The Washington Post.
|Footballguys view: We'll be watching both rookies closely. Marshall has the ability to be a quality starter if he can only stay healthy. A former star for the Georgia Bulldogs, Marshall suffered a knee injury that set him back for a couple of seasons. He's fast, agile and able to make defenders miss with ease. Sudfeld is a tall pocket passer with a strong arm. If these two rookies don't make the 53-man roster, we think both could stick as practice squad players i 2016.|
Ravens | Baltimore in better shape offensively Mon Jun 27, 01:36 PM
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he believes the offense is in better shape than he was last year because it will be the second year under offensive coordinator Marc Trestman, who will have more control of the offense. Trestman said the main focus for the offense is to cut down on the turnovers in 2016.
|Footballguys view: The Trestman offense can produce big fantasy numbers, and the Ravens should be more comfortable with the system in 2016. We feel QB Joe Flacco could outperform his current ADP of QB25 (14.09) in 12-team PPR leagues. Veteran WR Steve Smith is their highest drafted receiver with a current ADP of WR38 (8.07). Keep both players in mind when looking for value in your drafts.|
Seahawks | Tyler Lockett will have important role Mon Jun 27, 01:26 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett will be moved around on offense in 2016 and is a central part of the team's offensive plans, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Lockett has spent this offseason working on beating press coverage.
|Footballguys view: Another day, and another positive story about Lockett. The second-year player has the quickness and agility to create his own space with ease. He's a threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands, and Lockett is a player fantasy owners need to add when possible. The Seahawks passing game is likely to be robust once again this year, and Lockett will be a big part of what they do through the air. His current ADP is WR36 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Falcons | Atlanta won't go for two all the time Mon Jun 27, 01:25 PM

Quinn said sometimes it is a gut decision on whether or not to go for two points.Link to story
Saints | Kyle Wilson has torn labrum Mon Jun 27, 12:57 PM
New Orleans Saints CB Kyle Wilson (shoulder) was put on the Reserve/Injured list last week due to a torn labrum in his shoulder.
|Footballguys view: The Saints signed Wilson to a one-year contract back in March. A first-round pick of the Jets in 2010, Wilson has been a bust in the NFL. He'll hit a likely cold free agent market in 2017 after this injury and his disappointing play.|

Ravens | Mike Wallace not as fast Mon Jun 27, 10:50 AM
Baltimore Ravens WR Mike Wallace said he isn't as fast as he was as the slot receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers four years ago, but he thinks he can still get it done. 'I think I've gotten better, even though (the) numbers don't say so,' Wallace said. 'I think I'll get better this year, and I'll show some people I have a lot up my sleeve.'
|Footballguys view: Wallace's game is all about speed to get by defenders on "go" routes. If he's not as fast, then he may not be as effective. Of course, he hasn't been a fantasy factor for a few years. Mostly, Wallace has disappointed since he left the Steelers. He was a top-10 fantasy WR with the Steelers, since then his highest ranking is 18th in 2014 when he was with the Dolphins. This season, we can only forecast Wallace as a WR6 for fantasy owners.|

Eagles | Carson Wentz the No. 3 QB? Sun Jun 26, 08:03 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz might not even dress on game days, and QB Chase Daniel would likely take over as the starter if QB Sam Bradford goes down, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski.
|Footballguys view: Wentz is coming from the FCS level, so the change in the speed of the game will be even more pronounced, and the team is paying Bradford and Daniel a lot of money this year. The Eagles have no incentive to rush Wentz and would be smart to be patient unless both Bradford and Daniel crater.|

Jaguars | Julius Thomas dominant in OTAs Sun Jun 26, 07:55 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas has looked unstoppable in OTAs, according to beat writer Hays Carlyon.
|Footballguys view: Thomas had a four game touchdown scoring streak last year, but he also had two of fewer catches in half of his games. While a hand injury got him off to a slow start in 2015, Thomas won't move ahead of Allen Hurns or Allen Robinson in the pecking order. He's still a low TE1 in early drafts, but he is cheap enough to be a solid Plan A.|

Jets | Nick Folk will have competition Sun Jun 26, 05:06 PM
New York Jets PK Nick Folk will compete with PK Ross Martin for the kicker job during training camp, but the team would save around $2.2 million in salary cap space if Folk is released.
|Footballguys view: Martin was a highly accurate kicker the last two years at Duke, so he can give Folk a run to save the Jets some money. His kickoff leg is not the best, but rule changes should make that less important.|

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders not worried about deal Sun Jun 26, 04:54 PM
Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders is entering the final year of his contract but is not worried about his contract situation because he believes something will be worked out.
|Footballguys view: Sanders probably won't ever get paid close to the level that he earned during the last two years with Peyton Manning, entering free agency next year as a 30-year old. The Broncos got him at a relatively cheap three-year, 15 million dollar deal that he could eclipse next year, but not significantly.|

Giants | William Beatty unlikely to return Sun Jun 26, 04:28 PM
Free-agent OT William Beatty (Giants) likely will not re-sign with the New York Giants this offseason unless he has no other options.
|Footballguys view: It looks more likely that Eugene Monroe will be a Giant at this point. Beatty was unable to play in 2015 due to multiple injuries, and the Giants released him, saving over four million dollars. Even though the Giants have depth issues at tackle and Beatty was once a steady starter for them, they seem to have little to no interest in bringing him back at any cost.|
Giants | Sterling Shepard to provide instant impact Sun Jun 26, 04:12 PM
New York Giants rookie WR Sterling Shepard appears to be an 'instant-impact player' and was one of the receivers to impress the team during the spring. WR Darius Powe and WR Roger Lewis - a pair of undrafted rookie free agents from California and Bowling Green, respectively - have also caught the coaching staff's eye as well.
|Footballguys view: Shepard is basically unobstructed for the #2 job with Victor Cruz still struggling to show that he is even healthy enough to make the team. That leaves Dwayne Harris as the only other experienced receiver on the roster, with second-year UDFA Geremy Davis also in the mix. Powe has terrific measureables at 6'3" 220 with 4.49 speed and top-end quickness metrics, and Lewis is a long-striding deep ball receiver who fell out of the draft more on character concerns than talent deficiencies.|
Bills | Sammy Watkins not sure about camp Sun Jun 26, 01:46 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was noncommittal about his status for training camp. Watkins said if he's not ready for training camp then he'll get ready for the first game of the regular season.
|Footballguys view: Watkins stance is more optimistic than the complete non-committal stance he took recently, but it is still hard to know if we should significantly move him down from the second round ADP he had before offseason foot surgery. The talent to deliver on that ADP is obviously there, but the durability might not be.|

Texans | Will Fuller agrees to terms Sun Jun 26, 10:58 AM
The Houston Texans have agreed to terms with WR Will Fuller on a four-year, $10.2 million contract, according to a source familiar with the terms of the deal. All first-round contracts include a fifth-year option.
|Footballguys view: Fuller will compete with a reshaped Jaelen Strong to be the complement to DeAndre Hopkins outside with Cecil Shorts in the slot. Fuller's deep speed will give him a boom/bust fantasy profile, but if he can start, Hopkins should draw a lot of attention, freeing up Fuller for one-on-one matchups. As long as he can catch the ball consistently and not revert to body catching, Fuller should be an effective field stretcher.|
Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey expected back by training camp Sun Jun 26, 07:53 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) is doing well and should be ready to go when training camp opens next month.
|Footballguys view: The knee Ramsey allegedly had microfracture surgery on as a teenager appears to be healing well from a meniscus clean up. He should be ready to matchup against Jordy Nelson in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.|
Browns | Terrelle Pryor needs to prove himself Sat Jun 25, 11:50 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor has made progress as a receiver, but the coaches want him to produce in contact drills when he is being covered tightly.
|Footballguys view: Pryor made a catch on a deep ball last year that looked natural and he has the size/speed/athleticism combination that can be almost unfair to defensive backs. Deep dynasty leaguers should monitor Pryor's progress because he is at his athletic peak at age 27, and there's plenty of opportunity in the Browns passing game.|

Browns | Andrew Hawkins bouncing back Sat Jun 25, 11:19 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Andrew Hawkins missed eight games with a concussion and other injuries in 2015, but he has looked good as a slot receiver during offseason workouts.
|Footballguys view: The Browns might have no choice but to lean on Hawkins to the tune of at least 60-70 receptions - that is if he can stay on the field. They have no proven wide receivers beyond Hawkins and Gary Barnidge if you count tight ends. In very deep PPR leagues, he could get on the radar this year.|

Browns | Robert Griffin III working on mechanics Sat Jun 25, 11:12 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is working on planting his back foot before throwing passes, and head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin is doing a good job of checking the ball down.
|Footballguys view: Griffin hasn't stood out in practices so far, so camp and the preseason will be important for him. The Browns paid him like they expect him to win the starting job, but Josh McCown was playing well last year and they would be best served going with him unless Griffin truly wins the job.|

Rams | Los Angeles hoping for explosive offense Sat Jun 25, 10:38 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will be the focal point of the offense, offensive coordinator Rob Boras said, but head coach Jeff Fisher said the ball will be spread around a little more to try to generate explosive plays.
|Footballguys view: Gurley is going in the mid-first round, and he has a chance to be the most valuable player in fantasy leagues this year. He should take over a larger role in the passing game, and he is likely to be even more impressive physically now that he is well over one year removed from his ACL tear.|
Todd Gurley player page
Falcons | Austin Hooper making good impression Sat Jun 25, 10:22 PM
Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper has impressed offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan with his route-running ability and ball skills. 'He really comes off the ball hard,' Shanahan said. 'He's not the fastest guy in the world, but he's fast enough. He's got good cutting ability, so he can break guys off at the top of his routes.'
|Footballguys view: Jacob Tamme isn't a high bar to overcome, so Hooper could be the rare fantasy-relevant rookie tight end by year's end in a Falcons pass offense that lacks a proven #2 target.|
Jaguars | Bortles could still hit or top 35 touchdowns Sat Jun 25, 09:31 PM
Hays Carlson of Jacksonville.com thinks expectations that Blake Bortles touchdown numbers will drop from his lofty level of 35 scores in 2015 are unfounded. The experience at receiver and tight end, continuity in the offense, improving running game, and better team and defense can keep Bortles at that level or even allow him to surpass it.
|Footballguys view: Bortles is currently QB9 and a 7th/8th round pick in redraft leagues, which is not that steep considering his numbers last year and the compelling argument made by Carlson. The quarterback board is so stacked that most of them will give you a good chance to outproduce ADP.|

Lions | Calvin Johnson staying retired Sat Jun 25, 08:37 PM
Retired WR Calvin Johnson (Lions) said Saturday, June 25, that he feels good about his decision to retire and is not coming back to the NFL.
|Footballguys view: Johnson might change his tune next year if his body feels better and he gets an itch to play football again, but the Lions would have the first shot at him. He might be worth a roster spot in very deep dynasty leagues, but the chances of him playing again are tiny despite his retiring when he still probably had multiple productive years left.|
Calvin Johnson player page
Texans | Stephen Anderson likely to make roster? Sat Jun 25, 03:58 PM
Houston Texans undrafted rookie free agent TE Stephen Anderson is projected to make the final roster.
|Footballguys view: Anderson is a new breed H-back/Move TE type whose main contributions will be in the passing game. He might not be active on game days this year if he makes the roster, but he has more fantasy upside than Ryan Griffin or C.J. Fiedorowicz. He's worth a roster spot in TE premium and very deep dynasty leagues.|
Texans | C.J. Fiedorowicz has improved Sat Jun 25, 02:51 PM
Houston Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz has made a lot of progress in the passing game this offseason, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. 'He's more instinctive. He knows the plays better. He's a really, really hard worker,' O'Brien said. 'For him, his true improvement and his true playing will come in training camp when you put the full pads on.' Fiedorowicz (hamstring) was injured earlier this offseason, but he has begun running again and should be good to go by training camp.
|Footballguys view: The Texans wide receiver corps has been reloaded with Will Fuller in the first round this year and Jaelen Strong in the third round last year, so their tight end spot in a low volume pass offense is less attractive than ever. Ryan Griffin is still the better receiving prospect, but Fiedorowicz is the better two-way tight end, and he should lead the team in tight end snaps if he stays healthy.|
C.J. Fiedorowicz player page
Lions | Zach Zenner fully recovered Sat Jun 25, 02:15 PM
Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner (ribs, lung) has appeared to be fully recovered from his rib and lung injuries last season.
|Footballguys view: Zenner should be considered a slight favorite over Stevan Ridley and seventh-round pick Dwayne Washington for the power runner roster spot. If he wins the job, Zenner will have draftable value as the most likely option on traditional goal line running plays and closer when the Lions have a lead.|

Lions | Jeremy Kerley favored for No. 3 WR? Sat Jun 25, 02:05 PM
Detroit Lions WR Jeremy Kerley is expected to be the Lions' No. 3 wide receiver behind WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones and ahead of WR T.J. Jones.
|Footballguys view: Kerley still has to beat out recent signing Andre Roberts and the Lions like Jones, so this is far from settled. No matter who wins, this is not going to be a fantasy-friendly role as the 5th target in the pass offense.|
Jeremy Kerley player page

Lions | Cole Wick a roster candidate Sat Jun 25, 01:54 PM
Detroit Lions TE Cole Wick too advantage of the first-team repetitions he received this offseason. He'll have a good chance to make the 53-man roster if he continues his progress in training camp.
|Footballguys view: Brandon Pettigrew is likely to open camp on the PUP list after an ACL tear ended his 2015, so Wick might take his roster spot in the meantime. Wick isn't going to get on our fantasy radar, but he'll be a rugged blocker and complement Eric Ebron well.|
Lions | Andre Caldwell could make roster Sat Jun 25, 01:40 PM
Detroit Lions WR Andre Caldwell looked comfortable and confident with his new team in early offseason practices. He has a legitimate chance to make the final roster, in the opinion of MLive.com's Mike Mulholland.
|Footballguys view: The Lions wide receiver depth chart is wide open after Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. Veterans Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts are trying to get the slot receiver job along with youngster T.J. Jones. They also recently brought Anquan Boldin in for a visit, so this plot could thicken yet. Caldwell is steady, but lacks upside as a player, although his special teams contributions could give him an edge in a tight battle for one of the open spots at wide receiver.|

NFL | Eugene Monroe prefers left tackle Sat Jun 25, 10:02 AM

Giants | Eugene Monroe would not be given starting job Sat Jun 25, 10:01 AM
Free-agent OT Eugene Monroe (Ravens) may be a target for the New York Giants, but the Giants would not guarantee him a starting job if he signs with them.
|Footballguys view: Ereck Flowers is currently the starting left tackle, and the team sees him as their long-term left tackle so they might be hesitant to move to Flowers to right tackle even though current right tackle Marshall Newhouse is the starter they have less confidence in of the two. Monroe might slot best at right tackle for the Giants, but they could be ok with Newhouse if Monroe won't accept their terms, and Monroe might also be waiting for a left tackle job to come open. This situation could take until the first week or two of camp unfolds before it is resolved.|
NFL | Tarvaris Jackson arrested Sat Jun 25, 08:58 AM
Free-agent QB Tarvaris Jackson (Seahawks) was arrested Friday, June 24, and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pulled a gun on his wife.
|Footballguys view: Jackson was still seen as a possible signing for the Seahawks, since rookie UDFA Trevone Boykin is currently the backup quarterback. Boykin has been impressing, and the Seahawks wouldn't be the first contender to have a rookie UDFA as a backup. The Patriots had Brian Hoyer as the backup after they traded Matt Cassel in 2009. This arrest could nudge the Seahawks to go with Boykin.|

49ers | Carlos Hyde buying into offense Fri Jun 24, 09:19 PM
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he is excited about head coach Chip Kelly's offensive system and believes it will allow him to showcase all his abilities.
|Footballguys view: Hyde hasn't ever been a back that is used heavily in the passing game, and backup Shaun Draughn is better suited for the role. Still, he should be among the highest volume backs in the league when it comes to carries, and even a modest total like 25-30 catches could have him flirting with RB1 status if he stays healthy and Chip Kelly continues to run more plays than any other offense.|

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson ditches brace Fri Jun 24, 09:09 PM
New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) shared a video that showed him running without a leg brace, and he remains on track to be ready for the start of the season, if not sooner.
|Footballguys view: Wilkerson surprisingly did not draw strong trade interest during the draft, and the continuing recovery of his leg injury could be a reason. With the loss of Damon Harrison in free agency to the Giants, the Jets will need Wilkerson to earn his franchise tag salary of 15.701 million.|

Titans | Dorial Green-Beckham optimistic Fri Jun 24, 04:20 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham said he is happy with how he performed during offseason workouts and expects to be more productive in 2016 because he is more comfortable.
|Footballguys view: Green-Beckham is currently looking up at fifth-round rookie Tajae Sharpe on the depth chart, but with a good camp and preseason, he should overtake him and start outside opposite Rishard Matthews. The Titans are going to have a low volume pass offense that spreads the ball around, so Green-Beckham's sleeper status is based mostly on his talent and potential, not his situation or role.|

Broncos | Von Miller talks dormant Fri Jun 24, 02:22 PM
Denver Broncos LB Von Miller hasn't had contract discussions with the team since early June, according to sources. Miller is under the team's control for 2016 via the franchise tag.
|Footballguys view: The Broncos have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal under the CBA, but the team had set an earlier deadline to get the deal done that coincided with the negotiations coming to a halt. Denver could rekindle talks at the deadline, but if they can't finish a deal, Miller could hold out instead of playing under the 14.129 million franchise tag.|
