Summary

Carter has had a hard time overcoming injuries in both his college and professional career. Once regarded as a potential early 1st round selection, knee injuries have slowed his development and may continue to be holding him back physically. He did manage to play in a majority of the Cowboys' games last season but struggled mightily in run defense which led to the team to role share his position with Ernie Sims. However, with Sean Lee now out for the season, Carter now becomes an instant every down player and de facto leader of the defense. The tackle opportunity will be there - the question is whether or not the the front four can keep him protected enough to adequately defend the run and make tackles. He's shown enough fantasy potential in previous spurts to warrant LB3+ consideration in the hopes of LB2+ upside in his current situation. (June 26)

Latest News

Cowboys | Anthony Hitchens works MLB (Thu Aug 21, 10:00 AM) - Dallas Cowboys LB Anthony Hitchens took snaps at middle linebacker with LBs Justin Durant and Bruce Carter on each side.

Our View: The frantic search for front-seven help continues, as the team keeps looking for replacements for their injured players. The way this defense looks seems to indicate that Tony Romo might be in for a big year as he could be throwing from behind an awful lot.

Cowboys | Want Rolando McClain to seize MLB role (Tue Aug 12, 07:19 PM) - Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain is the candidate that has the best shot to win the middle linebacker job to replace LB Sean Lee (knee). McClain was slated to see a lot of work with the first-team defense until he suffered a minor leg injury. LB Bruce Carter could be relegated to a bench role, as he hasn't done much in training camp.

Our View: The defense is desperate. McClain has failed to play up to his potential since coming into the league as a first-round pick in 2010. We'll see if he can finally get things on track now that he's with Cowboys.
