Recent Game Summaries

2016 Week 18 vs HOU (18 / 45 / 161 / 1 / 3 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush)

Cook started the game shakily. After a quick three-and-out on the first possession, he threw an ugly interception deep in his own territory on the second possession. Oakland attempted a throwback screen but Houston easily sniffed it out and Cook's ill-advised pass to Latavius Murray went straight to Jadeveon Clowney, one of several Texans defenders in the area. Poor decisions were a major problem for Cook throughout the game. There were three other throws in the first half that hit Texans defenders in the hands and could have been interceptions. When the Raiders went to a hurry up offense down three scores in the fourth quarter, Cook made a few solid plays. He showed nice rapport with Andre Holmes and led a long touchdown drive that heavily featured backups Mychal Rivera and Holmes. Cook showed some nice zip on the ball hitting Holmes for an 8-yard touchdown on a slant route. Any hopes of a late comeback were dashed when Cook sailed a pass intended for Amari Cooper high over the middle. Cooper tried to jump and bring it in one-handed but instead tipped it up for an easy interception by the trailing safety. Cook also threw a meaningless interception into triple coverage in the final seconds of the game on a desperation throw.

2016 Week 17 vs DEN (14 / 21 / 150 / 1 / 1 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush)

The rookie fourth rounder best known for being the guy Dallas wanted in the draft before having to settle for Dak Prescott was forced into action in Week 17 after the Raiders top two quarterbacks both went down with injuries over the span of less than three quarters. He showed some flashes of ability, but he also showed the traits that caused him to fall to the third day of the draft: inaccuracy and poor decision making. Cook made a pair of nice throws down the field. He was able to throw it up deep down the sideline to Amari Cooper, who went up over the defensive back to haul it in and turn upfield for a 32-yard touchdown. Cook also threw a perfect pass down the right sideline to Michael Crabtree for a 17-yard completion that he dropped in between the corner underneath and the Safety coming across the field. But the flashes of strong play were overshadowed by the mistakes. Cook tried to scramble out of the pocket but didn't secure the ball, which led to a lost fumble in his first series of the second half. After the touchdown pass to Cooper, Cook came out on the next possession and misfired low and outside on a couple short passes to Cooper. Midway through the fourth quarter, Cook sailed a pass down the middle well over the head of Mychal Rivera that was easily picked off by the deep Safety. McGloin's status is unknown for the first round of the playoffs and Cook may end up getting the start even if McGloin is healthy enough to play.
